OH MY GOD THERE ARE SO MANY DOOMED YAOI ASKS IN HERE?????
So... I'm just going to add onto my secret marriage au to lighten things up!
Charlie thought Alastor was strange. It was the way he immediately warmed up to her despite it being less than a day of meeting, how he knew quite a few of her habits that she'd somehow picked up from her father and the ring on his finger.
Well, the ring itself wasn't strange, but it obviously meant he either got married in the seven years he'd disappeared or he doesn't know what wearing a ring on that exact finger meant. Both of those options were very unlikely.
But those suspicions grew, especially when her father decided to visit the hotel for the first time in years and he spent a few seconds just staring at her and Alastor. They even seemed to communicate just by staring at each other – it was even similar to how she'd done with Vaggie multiple times.
She'd even caught that their rings looked similar too. And how her father would seem irritated when Angel would make half-hearted attempts to bed Alastor. Hell, both of them also disappeared at the same time near midnight for no reason!
It was unsettling, especially when she expected her father to be downcast, reminiscing about her mother while staring at a duck he'd made in her memory. She was happy that he didn't seem depressed, but why was he so happy?
She didn't like the way they'd both seem so familiar with each other in the mornings, tiredly going to the kitchen together where Alastor would cook both of them some pancakes, while making it the exact way her father liked. The way her father would make both of them coffee, and they didn't have any single petty spat during this. The way they were suspiciously... Domestic.
It was even worse when she'd hear them slip up, calling the other by a pet name which was too fond to call a mistake. When she'd see Alastor's shadow almost leaning in to kiss her father on the cheek – if not for it being caught by Alastor and scolded heavily in private.
She both wanted to stop this, and let it happen. She wanted her old family, but she liked the new one. And she knew what was happening, she just needed to confirm it. So one night, she looked for them.
They'd both disappeared as usual, so she began to scour the hotel and look for them. Her father's room was empty, spotless, too. And it was strange since his rooms always had some sort of... Messiness, to it. The sort that was impossible to clean.
So she looked at Alastor's room, and reluctantly opened the door. And she saw it.
No, it was not Alastor feasting on a dead father or anything gruesome. It was surprisingly cute.
She saw both of them asleep in a bed, hugging each other closely and their guards were down. And they hadn't even noticed her.
Alastor seemed to be dead, had it not been for the occasional rise of his chest and Lucifer was somewhat all over the place – he'd pull Alastor closer suddenly, or loosen his grip.
It took her some time to process it all, but she'd soon left them alone to their sleep. It wouldn't be good to interrupt their comfort.
(And yes, Alastor doesn't usually sleep. He'd just hug Lucifer the whole night while awake but sometimes he'd fall asleep. This was one of those sometimes.)

Old men yaoi so good they should make reanimator 4 where herb comes home to Dan and Dan is all old and stuff but herb stays somewhat young bc of the reagent but Dan is trying to convince herb to stop taking reagent so that they can grow old together while they try to create another child but an actual child this time and the move would be called spawn of reanimator (like seed of Chucky but it's also mpreg) like herb gets Dan pregnant bc of reanimator bs and in the end when herb finally brings upon his own creation of life with a soul he gives up his reanimator shenanigans and settles in with Dan. This also sets up for a sequel for reanimator 5 where we learn that the kid is also a med freak like Herbie and rediscovers the serum while in med school and more wacky silly shit happens and it would be called something like reanimator: reawakening or something and ofc Dr Hill is back, but also the bride, and that rat guard from the 3rd movie. The Bride isn't complete but Herbie Jr takes her up as a mom even tho Dan is mother but Dan got old and died or something and Herb Sr was contemplating if he should revive him or something but then remembers he has a son. Dr Hill and the rat guard works together until the end where they have a massive argument and a villain vs villain fight. Then Herbie Jr says some random quip like "aww they fought each other to pieces" and then he brings home his new mom to Herb Sr place only to find his father is dead (from being alone) and there is a cliffhanger where Jr is reviving Sr. Which sets up for reanimator 6 where we time jump to Jr being awarded a Nobel peace prize for his work citing the miskatonik hospital incident as his biggest motivation. We then see Sr and bride at home on life support (more reagent) and they are not doing so well. Jr comes home and is like "I'm almost done with my research and you both will be with me forever" but Sr and bride just want to die but Jr won't let them. Also Jr has a pet cat named Rufus 2 and he is also almost immortal. Jr starts doing unethical experiments behind closed doors leading to his credentials stripped. He goes mad and does more reanimator bs and then in the end he realized he is messed up as his entire house burns to a crisp and this would be called something like the end of the reanimator or something (like Halloween ends)... Anyways happy Valentine's Day

The last dragonblood, Eren Jaeger, has been surviving on the island by his own strengths, alone and wondering what the rest of the world is like beyond the shores of Valyria. Word Count: 6K
Summary: Eren learns about Yuuta’s past and the land from which he came from. Eren’s surprised to find that the kind-hearted boy he’s come to know has suffered loss, too. Perhaps it is fate that brought them together, they ponder, as they mend each other’s hearts.
Chapter 4: The Black Dread
Word Count: 13K
Summary: Eren tells Yuuta the legend about the origins of Valyria and the bond between Valyria’s first dragon and his rider. While Eren believes it all to be a bedtime story, two years later they come to find that perhaps there is some truth to the legend of the Black Dread.

Chapter 7: The End of The Beginning
Word Count: 13K (NSFW)
Summary: Before their departure, Eren and Yuuta travel to a sacred place on the island, to proclaim a vow before the Gods. Chapter 8: The Sworn Protector
Word Count: 12K
Summary: Back in the kingdom of Nymeria, the only remaining child of the Emperor, Princess Rika Orimoto, has turned of age. And he's... on the back of a dragon?!
Chapter 10: The Six-Eyed Mage

My Brother’s Husband V.1 & 2 by Gengoroh Tagame
This isn’t really something I’ve ‘just finished reading’, after a few significant life events last year I’m still catching up with reviews of books read months and months ago. One of last year’s reading highlights were volumes 1 and 2 of My Brother’s Husband: they follow Yaichi, a Japanese man whose twin brother Ryoji died not long ago in Canada, one day Ryoji’s foreigner husband Mike shows up at the door, he wants to reconnect with Ryoji’s family and see where his husband grew up.
This is a beautiful story, Yaichi is not a bad person but he has prejudices that he’s never voiced before, never analysed or taken the time to address, we hear his inner voice and how it changes as he becomes more acquainted with Mike. Once Yaichi understand what’s wrong with some of his preconceptions he is then able to identify the subtle and not-so-subtle discrimination in society.
Yaichi’s daughter Kana brings so much heart to the story, she is a reminder of how youth is not inherently prejudice, how accepting and open they can be and how it is the attitudes of adults around children that influence their outlook.
Mike is dealing with grief and it can’t be easy to see his late husband’s identical twin, yet he is a positive, cheerful person that brings much joy to Kana’s daily life. Mike is the enthusiastic Japanophile us manga-loving foreigners can all relate to, and this book is also about how foreigners still stand out in Japan.
For author Gengoroh Tagame this is his first work for all ages, his other work is gay erotic manga often quite pornographic, I’ve read a lot of Yaoi manga but Yaoi is homoerotic manga mostly drawn by women for a female audience, manga drawn by gay men for gay men is quite different, I would have previously described this work as ‘Bara’ except for what I just read on Tagame’s Wikipedia page:
“Tagame's artwork is often associated with bara, a colloquialism used by non-Japanese audiences to refer to Japanese erotic art featuring masculine men. Tagame has rejected this association, citing the term's historical use as a pejorative for gay men and calling it ‘a very negative word that comes with bad connotations.’ ”
Tagame’s men in My Brother’s Husband are hypermasculine, their muscles and build are overemphasised, in particular in shower scenes, by refreshing contrast women’s bodies aren’t given the hyperattention they normally are in heterosexual media. For me it’s pleasing to see a focus on the male body, from the perspective of a gay man, and at the same time to not have to focus at all on the representation of female bodies.
The last thing to talk about before spoilers is production quality, it’s lovely to see manga in hardback format, the cover designs by Chip Kidd are stylish and the volumes feel like proper nice books. I had to order volume 2 from the United States, sorry to say I prefer the inside paper quality and glossy cover finish of the UK edition.
Warning: Contains Spoilers
There are two details that I love: Yaichi is introduced as a single, stay-at-home dad, at first both Mike and the reader assume that Kana’s mother passed away but we later learn that they divorced but are still on good terms. So many times in manga if a parent is single it is because their partner has died, it’s so refreshing to see depictions of more realistic families, divorce is common and yet rare in manga.
A neighbourhood boy who is gay seeks out Mike to be able to talk to someone about his sexuality, this just highlights how important it is for people, of all ages, to have someone to talk to, to see and know people who they can identify with.
By the end of My Brother’s Husband, I, like Yaichi and Kana, was so sad to say goodbye to Mike as he returns to Canada, sad to say goodbye to them all.
Happy Pride Month everyone, xxx.

Daily Log 8/1/22
Hello to the month of August! Dang classes are so close. Anyways, nothing much today.
So happy girlfriend day today. Of course there is no one to flex me 'coz I don't have a boyfriend— I do have friends though. So Jaden did flex me. But before that, we had a little conversation earlier about something that they thought I said but I denied it. Insert huddy's song " you're a show stopper, a bad liar, homie hopper". Anyways we good.
So miracle died today. He lived for seven days. I held him in my hands to like feed it from its mother but it was stiff in my hands. And that's when I realized rigor mortis has set in. It made me so sad. Run free, miracle. You are loved baby.
So did some reading too. I am well now. Thank God. There are still some aftershocks. God, keep us all safe.
Also, today is also yaoi day. Yehet.
That's it. I guess.
XOXO
P.S. 01100110 01110101 01100011 01101011 01101001 01101110 01100111 01101110 01100101 01110010 01100100 don't you think this binary code is cool? I had it set as my bio. It says. fuckingnerd. :)

@digiweek 2021: Day 5: Crossover (2005)
This was another prompt I had a hard time deciding the direction for at first. I have so many AU ideas in my head already, so many other fandoms/series I could easily project Digimon onto (+ the ship that has currently taken over my life). But then it hit me... Quite hard, actually. There was no way I would pass on the chance of an Adventure/Tamers crossover. Because as much as Adventure has completely consumed my soul these days, I am 100% concinved that I wouldn’t even be here, on the internet, in this fandom, if it wasn’t for 11-year-old-me discovering the world wide web and the wonderful world of anime - and shipping. I had fallen in love with Adventure back in the day already, but Tamers was the first fandom I actively experienced on the internet. And oh boy, did I experience it. The first fanfiction I ever read was about Tamers - as was the first yaoi fanfiction I ever read and I can’t even tell you how hard I fell for Jenrya/Takato back in the day. I basically had two reactions:
1.) “WAIT, THEY ARE BEST FRIENDS, ARE YOU TELLING ME TAKATO IS IN LOVE WITH JENRYA HERE??? W H A T????”
2.) “I LOVE THIS SO MUCH, GIVE ME MORE.”
Jenrya, to this day, is still my favourite Tamers character, just as close to my heart as Koushirou being my favourite Adventure character - and nowadays, thinking back on it, I’m noticing not only a pattern in the types of characters I fall in love with, but also with the kinds of ships I would sell my soul for. Basically, you can sum up both Taishirou and Jenkato (or Takarya, how I lovingly called it back then) like this:
Koushirou/Jenrya: “You like the brave ones with a tendency to self-sacrifice, who may become a little reckless once they fight for something that’s dear to them, since they have the biggest heart and a very emotional and protective side to them, huh?”
Taichi/Takato: “You like the smart ones, able to handle a computer in their sleep, who may lose themselves in what’s in front of them and have a kinda difficult relationship with themselves, so they have to come to terms with who they are, but they are thoughtful and kind and the most supportive souls, huh?”
So it’s absolutely no surprise that I believe that these four would get along pretty well. As mentioned above, Koushirou and Jenrya would definitely bond over technology and their theories about the different types of Digital Worlds they have encountered - Also, their partners are mischievous little blobs of fluff I would love to squeeze and cuddle. On the other hand, I can definitely see Taichi and Takato bond over food/cooking (ESPECIALLY GUILMON/AGUMON BREAD!)... And let’s be real, Takato, having watched and loved Digimon himself, would be completely starstruck to meet the original goggleboy in person.
As much as I cried happy tears back in the day when Tri was announced, I also would have loved to have a Tamers sequel - and a crossover like this would have made me squeal in absolute delight. Speaking of Tri, I drew Taichi (17) and Koushirou (16) in their Digimon Adventure Tri Stageplay outfits, since I will never be able to not rant about how much I love it.
Bonus: I might also draw Sora/Ruki bonding with each other at some point, because - come on, two firece and amazing redheads who defy gender stereotypes, have an interesting relationship with their mothers and fashion and also regularly have to keep their male friends in check? Plus, Takato/Jenrya/Ruki were basically my very first OT3 (with Jenruki being by 2nd favourite Tamers ship after Jenkato) and it’s not that hard to find parallels between them and Taikoura as well (since Taiora is also my 2nd favourite Taichi ship after Taishirou).

The Psychological Horror Manhwa “Killing Stalking” is not a Romance, but an Emotional Series Depicting the Codependent Relationship Between Two Ill Individuals
Content Warning!!: contains mentions of sexual abuse (rape) and mental illness.
Killing Stalking is an immensely twisted webcomic series, mainly popular within the Yaoi community for its boy on boy focused plotline. The story follows characters Yoon Bum (Bum), a shy, scrawny young man with a haunting past filled with abuse, and Oh Sangwoo (Sangwoo), a younger man who also has a quite damaging upbringing but masks it perfectly with his vibrant, extroverted personality. After being saved from a rape attempt during his time serving in the military, Bum develops a crush on his saviour, Sangwoo, from which an unhealthy obsession starts to arise and he eventually finds himself locating and breaking into the man’s home one day when he’s out. When he does, he discovers a terribly injured woman being held captive in his basement, and with further evidence, soon comes to the realization that his crush is actually a serial killer -- hence the name “Killing Stalking,” as Sangwoo kills and Bum stalks. For a very specific reason though, Sangwoo decides not to kill the man that had been stalking him, and instead holds him hostage in his custody. From here, the story goes into exceeding depth of the abnormal, toxic, and manipulative relationship the two form during their time spent together. By just the mere description of it, it’s a bit concerning to know that a large portion of readers still support Sangwoo and Bum’s relationship. In other words, they believe they truly loved each other and that the story was not only horror fiction but a romance as well. One could easily come to this conclusion by basing their relationship on the few parts within the novel where they showed affection towards each other -- for example when Bum allows Sangwoo to hug him to sleep when he suffered through the night, or my personal favourite, when Sangwoo buys Bum a stuffed frog keychain after finding out that he had an affinity for such creatures. But we cannot simply dismiss the underlying factors of their relationship because of some cute things they did that made our heart melt -- Sangwoo still abused Bum at his leisure which makes those moments quite meaningless in the sense of it all. What Sangwoo and Yoonbum shared can’t be classified as “love,” because even with their peculiar bond and endearing moments, the psychological damage they both endured played a bigger part in the way they perceived each other.
Many toxic relationships start out lovely and glamorous until the couple have become comfortable enough to start revealing some bad habits, but in Sangwoo and Bum’s case, they were already off to a bad start, as the reason they remained with each other was solely for reasons pertaining to their poor mental health.
At the time Sangwoo saved Bum in the military, Bum still suffered from Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) -- a disorder he inferrably developed due to the fact that he grew up being constantly physically and sexually abused by the people around him. People with this illness may easily develop an infatuation for a person who shows them even the least bit of care; It can reach the point where they begin to idolize them and see them almost as a perfect human being -- which is exactly how Bum viewed Sangwoo after he helped him to escape a rape attempt. The likely specific term for what Sangwoo was to Bum is a Favourite Person (FP). To an individual suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder, their FP is everything -- their self-worth, identity and emotional dependency all rely on this one person, making them the center of their lives. In contrast to this sincere fondness, the only reason Sangwoo kept Bum alive was because of the man’s resemblance to his late mother -- the one person in his life who he truly loved. While his father was abusive and negligent, his mother tried her best to care for her son even while her own mental stability wasn’t so great either. Even though it was implied that he was responsible for the murder of both his mother and father in high school -- getting away with it scotch-free because of how perfectly executed his plan was -- he still shared a special bond with the woman, allowing her existence follow and continue to torutue him mentally as he grew older. When he saw Yoonbum, he felt as if she had been somewhat resurrected, or at least he could pretend so by dressing him up in his mother’s clothes and making him cook and do the chores; He also played the husband role by abusing and assaulting Bum just as his father did to his mother -- mostly just out of his own nature. Sangwoo had his own issues, “mommy issues,” and he initially needed to keep Bum alive so he could fulfill his own longing desires. Knowing the man’s character though, things wouldn’t end there and instead headed down a very gruesome and frightful path.
The very reasons that the two were drawn to each other we’re even more evident the longer they lived under the same roof. While Yoonbum continued to recall the perfect image he had of Sangwoo in his head, Sangwoo continued to manipulate the man in order to satisfy his own needs. A healthy relationship cannot be based on deceit, because one person will end up victimized instead of loved.
Oh Sangwoo is a sadistic sociopath with a history of kidnapping, abusing, raping and torturing innocent people, and because of his illness, he shows feels and shows no remorse for his actions and even proceeds to kill off his victims as they pleaded in objection. What some people don’t understand is that when Sangwoo met Bum, the only reason he treated him differently was not because he thought of him as special, but because he had a personal agenda that included making Bum think that was the truth and that he was indeed the favoured victim among many. It’s no surprise with the man’s manipulative personality that he would enjoy planting a lie in Bum’s head to make him stay and continue to do as he says, and this is confirmed whenever he returned back to his old destructive habits even after showing the man acts of affection. Yes, Sangwoo spared Bum’s life, clothed him and fed him, but as their bond grew, his narcissistic attitude was still more apparent than ever.
Upon meeting Bum for the first time, Sangwoo didn’t hesitate to aggressively break his ankles to prevent his mobility, he left the man within the dark confinement of his basement for a certain period of time before letting him out only after he had gained his trust. He made him sit in a chair to wash dishes and make dinner because he could no longer stand. Sangwoo also constantly dragged Bum down with derogatory words and statements every chance he could get, this included calling him a “retard,” and referring to him as a “disgusting” and “filthy” human being. As confirmed by the author, Sangwoo is also heterosexual, which is further proved by the homophobic remarks he made towards a significantly older man who was sexually attracted to him while murdering him with Bum’s aid. This fact alone is another one that should justify a strong point that demonstrates the true hostility of their relationship -- Yoonbum never gave his consent to have sex with Sangwoo, nor did he allow it to happen because “he wanted it.” He specifically used phrases such as, “No,” “Stop,” and “It hurts,” implying that sometimes there was no mutual agreement when they had sex and Sangwoo had actually raped him several times.
People with Borderline Personality Disorder have been reported to have difficulties seeing the faults in their partner -- this explains why Bum still held on to him. He chose to stay when he had the chance to escape, and with tears rolling down his face from excruciating pain he still told Sangwoo he loved him. In a scene where Bum is left alone with the police as they investigate the suspicions they have surrounding him, he questions them saying, “Could you kiss somebody like me? Could you love somebody like me?” As he believes nobody but Sangwoo could answer yes to those two questions, convinced that Sangwoo really does have feelings for him. It’s saddening to know that the poor man had successfully been lured into a trap, and because of his mental health it would be much harder for him to realize it.
To the readers that think, “Sangwoo and Yoonbum needed each other,” -- You’re not completely wrong. They did need each other in the way that they found somewhat of a saneness from each other’s presence, each using one another to each other’s benefit. But being together at the same time built on their insanity, as the presence of Sangwoo’s mother seemed to grow even more prevalent with Bum, who resembled her, also in the picture, and Yoonbum growing so unhealthily attached to Sangwoo that he constantly feared of abandonment and turned the sociopath into the only source of his happiness. They needed each other, but not for the right reasons. They were attached to each other, but there was no love, otherwise it would reflect throughout the story. One of the most debate-worthy scenes that challenge this fact is when Sangwoo is reported by an old lady in the hospital, the one that had ended his life, that he was calling out Bum’s name throughout the night as he lay in his deathbed. Those were his final words, and Yoonbum’s final word was also Sangwoo’s name before he was very well implied to have been hit by a car while he chased an illusion of the man he “loved.” Even I almost felt that this was solid proof that even through the tough and terrible of their relationship, deep inside, the two really were in love but could not express it in the right way due to their mental health issues -- after all, what someone makes of their final moments before death is much more meaningful than most of what they've done in their life entirely. But I came to realize that the only way I could support this relationship would be if they had met in an alternate universe where they did not suffer from such dreadful childhood trauma that made them into the hurting individual they had become before meeting each other. As difficult as it is for me to picture the two with different partners, it would be best if the two had not met at all as they only fed into the severity of their conditions.

They talked a bit more before Vanessa had to jump into a work-related conference call. "See you soon. And don't call Sara before you've calmed down," Kody said as he ended the call. "That was quite something," Alex said. "I've seen worse."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alex was intrigued to ask for details but decided it was probably a story for another time. Kody shrugged. "She reacted just as I had thought. But she'll be alright after she has had time to process. Mom is reasonable after all. I mean, usually," he added when he saw Alex raise his eyebrow. "I know that on paper, Bayu isn't any mother's dream son-in-law candidate but damn the guy is charming. He could probably talk Komorebi and Takemizu into reuniting. Mom will love him."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Well, at least she'll have one likeable son-in-law." Kody frowned. "It was a joke," Alex said, smiling sadly.

Notes: I create a lot of poses for this story but I’m not always too happy with them. But the poses I created for Alex this time are pretty nice 👍 (even though his hands look like big yaoi hands in the top picture 🙈)
What was the Komorebi/Takemizu thing about? My headcanon (or the canon for this story at least) is that Komorebi and Takemizu (from TS2 Bon Voyage) were a single nation centuries ago. For some unresolvable issues between the two regions, a civil war broke out and eventually the nation divided in two. It has taken a long time but their relationship has mended. These days they have sort of love and hate relationship. It's a common saying/idiom there that when something is impossible, it's as easy as talking the two nations into reuniting. And since Kody's father is from Takemizu, it's a part of his vocabulary.
(+ why am I so talkative this time, haha)

CQL Rewatch - Ep 19
Tumblr media
Wow, Wei Wuxian looks so rough here. He’s spent some time under the knife (with no anesthetic), and then after that, he has just been waiting around for Jiang Cheng. It’s been seven days since Jiang Cheng went up that mountain. And of course Wei Wuxian is worried about him. What if something happened on his way down the mountain? What if he’d been captured or killed by the Wens? All the while, he’s basically defenseless here in Yiling (iirc). He’s sweating profusely, clutching at his middle—it’s possible he’s even suffering from an infection due to the transfer surgery. Seriously, the poor guy!
Tumblr media
I love the visuals here: all these cloaked figures just filling this tea house, and not another soul in there other than the waiters. It’s both comical and heartbreaking the way that Wei Wuxian tries to immediately nope out of there, because he knows it’s a trap right away. Even with his Golden Core, I don’t know if he could have escaped them all—there were too many Wens, including the Core-Melting Hand. This part always really gets to me, because it truly is the first death of Wei Wuxian. It’s the death of who he once was: that smart, quirky, rascal of a youth, who made a very honest oath that essentially guided him to this point.
Tumblr media
No joke, the first time I watched this, I was like, “Is that Lotus Pier? How tf did he get there?! How much did they change the story?!” And then a few seconds later, I realized this was a super sad dream/vision that Jiang Cheng was having and I channeled all my anger into sadness. This part is also super depressing. He has this vision of this happy family: his mother laughing, his father kissing his hand, just the picture of love. But it’s so far from what he had growing up, and you just realize that his greatest desire was really to have that happy family. But his parents are dead, he’s lost just about everyone at Lotus Pier—it’s so heartbreaking.
Tumblr media
God, he just looks so broken! I’m sad now.
Tumblr media
So even though I know the cost of Jiang Cheng’s happiness is Wei Wuxian giving up his own Golden Core, I still feel so happy here, seeing Jiang Cheng feeling like himself again. It’s because Wei Wuxian knows Jiang Cheng’s heart truly that he could offer up his own future so that Jiang Cheng could have a better one. I also just love this shot of Jiang Cheng kowtowing to the Immortal One, thanking her for healing him, and the camera pans past him, showcasing the beautiful scenery again. And then he walks down the mountain path with such a spring in his step! I love it!
Tumblr media
I love that Wei Wuxian is still able to use his mind and play to their weaknesses. Wang Lingjao is extremely superstitious and fearful of the supernatural, and just the idea that he could haunt them scares the shit out of her. It’s just very cool to me that with all the abuse he endures, he still maintains a clear head and is able to fight back with his wit. This is yet another reason why I get annoyed when I see Wei Wuxian characterized as an idiot or someone who isn’t very smart. He proves his wit in just about every scene, so I don’t know why he gets this reputation in fanon. I feel like it’s derived from some overused yaoi/shojo trope where the “girl” has to be less smart than the “guy.” I don’t know how many things I’ve watched and read with a scatterbrained (but not charming) female lead—it’s overused.
Tumblr media
This is so cool, because Wei Wuxian is scared out of his mind—he’s terrified of being left to die in the Burial Mounds. He’s heard all the stories: people don’t return, their souls get torn apart, etc. But what is cool is that he turns everything around and makes this place his source of power. He’s the man who conquered the Burial Mounds. It’s very satisfying to see that. FYI, I’m not going to talk about how he falls for like 20 minutes.
Tumblr media
But I do think it’s really cool how the dark spirits catch him (and that’s all I’ll say).
Tumblr media
This part still gives me major chills: you hear so many people calling out Wei Wuxian’s name, and then a “Wei Ying” breaks through. My breath always catches in my throat the first time I hear it. And then you hear it again, and the other voices have faded away before you hear it a third time. And that all feels nice until the screaming starts, which is hard to listen to, let alone hard to watch Wei Wuxian go through the mental turmoil.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji is back, bitches! He’s got a new title, a new headdress, and he’s hotter than ever. Jokes aside, though, this entrance is beyond epic. Other than that tiny glimpse of him in the last episode, it’s been ages since we’ve seen him, and it’s so satisfying that we get this great entrance, walking up this enormous staircase. Obviously by this point, I’m ecstatic to see him (it’s been way too long). Everything about this scene is great, from his entrance, to the way he uses his guqin as a spiritual tool, to the way he and Jiang Cheng are now a team. I don’t think there’s an awful lot of comradery there, but they have a common goal: find Wei Wuxian.
Tumblr media
So we’re not really used to seeing a ton of emotion from Lan Wangji. Even when he’s annoyed, he doesn’t tend to show it. But, man, he is pissed here. Because of the magic of fiction, he’s probably heard the Wens’ conversation as he was walking up the stairs, so he heard them mocking Wei Wuxian (and the Yunmeng Jiang Sect), and he is not happy about it. He even uses the Chord Assassination Technique right off the bat against at least two of the Wen soldiers. Lan Wangji means business, and he’s not leaving until he gets what he wants.
The other great thing is that he doesn’t even need to come up all the way. He defeats them at a distance, while he’s still on the stairs. And the power and respect he commands is so great that they all know him by his face.
Tumblr media
What Wen Chao does here is so relatable. His girlfriend is freaking out, having nightmares, convinced Wei Wuxian is going to turn into a ferocious ghost and haunt them until they lose their minds, and he, of course, rationalizes: they’ve sent so many people to the Burial Mounds and none of them have ever come back. In other words, “You’re being ridiculous.” But when he turns away from her, you can see the fear in his own eyes. When something spooky happens, my first step is always to rationalize—there’s a logical explanation for most things, right? And it always makes you feel better to rationalize it to someone else, but when you’re alone and thinking, your mind starts to wonder, your imagination starts to go wild. It’s easy to psyche yourself up in the dark and quiet of the night.
Tumblr media
There’s this really gorgeous cello version of “Wuji” playing during this scene—it’s so beautiful, so moving, hitting me right in the feels. The look on Lan Wangji’s face when Jiang Cheng is telling him about how he and Wei Wuxian were supposed to meet in Yiling, how he thought Wei Wuxian had abandoned him to meet up with Lan Wangji in Lanling—he looks so defeated there. Defeated despite taking down the Qishan Indoctrination Bureau. Defeated because he hasn’t found who he’s been searching for. And then he holds Suibian so tenderly and lovingly—I’m emotional, okay?
Tumblr media
It’s really cute and heartwarming to see Jin Zixuan starting to fall for Jiang Yanli. We’ve known for quite some time how Yanli feels for him, so it’s quite satisfying to see his walls come down as he starts to care more and more about her. He becomes protective of her. When she gasps at the hanging head at the gates of Qinghe, his instinct is to hold her—of course, he stops himself, but it’s very obvious that he wants to comfort her physically (and not in a dirty way, get your minds out of the gutter).
Tumblr media
I love the dichotomy here: on one end, you have Jin Zixuan asking Lan Wangji where Wei Wuxian is, while you have Jiang Yanli echoing that on the other end with Jiang Cheng. Jiang Cheng can’t answer—he’s crying, trembling, emotionally responding to his sister without speaking. And Lan Wangji can’t speak either. His lips part, but no words come out. Again, you get this great sense of defeat from him—he’s completely at a loss, but he can’t or chooses not to show those emotions.
It’s also interesting how they kind of clipped the reunion between the Yunmeng Jiang siblings in favor of showing the conversation between Jin Zixuan and Lan Wangji. In my opinion, it’s to remind us of the reunion that isn’t happening right now—the one that should have been—the one between Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian. And why isn’t it happening? The conversation reminds us that he’s still missing. I don’t doubt the importance of the Yunmeng Jiang siblings in this story—they are obviously instrumental to the plot and to Wei Wuxian—but it’s choices like this where the writers/scene directors remind us that the relationship to focus on is the one between Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji. Lan Wangji, and not Jiang Cheng, holds onto Suibian, the only remaining item that is most spiritually connected to Wei Wuxian. Isn’t that interesting?
Tumblr media
“A-Cheng, you’ve grown up. As your sister, there’s nothing I can do but worry about you.” Such a wise line—such a sad line. This really brings out how powerless she feels in the lives of her brothers. She’s a bystander, she has no influence. All she can do is watch and worry, and nothing either of them says or does will change that. It’s something we as parents and caretakers and guardians at some point have to admit: we can’t control our children’s lives, we can’t control those we take care of. Once they reach a point in their lives, it’s them who has to make their own decisions. They must thrive on their own, they must fail on their own. And all we can do is watch and worry and hope for the best. God, Yanli breaks my heart.

About MXTX’s problematic m|m
There is a cultural component to this. Understand that my analysis is based off looking over Chinese and western history and interacting with both the western and Asian sides of the fandom. I’m Chinese American, so I have access -- and speak Chinese and English -- to both sides, but at the end of the day, the idea of what’s a respectful or disrespectful way to portray LGBTQ culture is made up of millions of individuals’ subjectives. My analysis is only a nibble of the entire cookie.
We talk a lot about how MXTX’s writing is fujoshi fodder. It’s literally yaoi. Whether you read it in English or Chinese, it’s literally yaoi. She got her start in reading yaoi D. Gray-Man fanfiction.
I talk more about her portrayal of gender roles and queercoding here.
So MDZS in particular -- it’s the only one I’ve read, though apparently, TGCF has the same aspects -- presents a “man” and a “woman” in a boys’ love relationship. Wei Wuxian is the wife and mother. He’s literally curvy, always fainting into Lan Wangji’s arms, has a higher voice, grew up among lotuses (which isn’t necessarily “feminine,” but from a modern lens, even in contemporary Chinese society, does have that slant), and is always the one getting penetrated. Power bottom, thy name is Wei Wuxian. 在下名叫魏无羡。
Lan Wangji, in a lot of art, is portrayed with a broader jawline, is markedly taller by the time Wei Wuxian gets Mo Xuanyu’d back into life, is jacked AF (all the better to carry wifey and one [1] dead Nie Mingjue with, YEET), and is quiet and stoic with a deep voice. And he always tops. Let’s not forget the incense burner chapters where he literally tops Wei Wuxian while demanding, “Who is the husband?”
Not to mention the copious amounts of sexual tension and unprotected sex, and WangXian’s non-con kink. This is gay porn. Not PWP, but gay porn nevertheless.
So this dichotomy between masculine husband and the feminine wife husband is clear.
I know the western fandom often is either queasy with this or HATES this. It comes off as fetishy, and really, why does a homosexual relationship HAVE to follow these traditional gender norms? Don’t force heteronormativity onto a gay couple, damn it. But there have been western fans who’ve just...jumped down MXTX’s throat for this. Way too fast, and not always deservedly.
The Asian fandom, as I’ve seen it, tends to be a little more blase about this. I talked around, and while I don’t like the few Chinese people who whine, “ERMERGERD THEY ARE HUSBAND AND WIFE THERE IS NO SWITCHING UNDERSTAND CHINESE C U L T U R E -U-” most people are very chill with it.
I think for China at least, our social relationship with homosexuality has been...very on and off. If we trace back the last couple of dynasties, there are documented periods of time where homosexuality was...fine! Absolutely normal! Confucius’s word is law when it comes to building a home with a man and wife and kids, but it’s not going to kill anyone to love who you love, even if it isn’t someone of the opposite cis gender. There are records of people casually talking about courtship between men in certain regions, and it’s...fine. When Christian missionaries came over, they were fucking horrified (GOOD, nobody ASKED for your dumb opinion).
In Europe, and eurocentric America? Well, you still hear people screaming on the street about homosexuality being a sin, and that’s been consistent in the last couple of centuries. That stigma has been much more enduring, whereas China has fluctuated. And it shows in our literature, and the media based off of it.
What I’m saying is, despite the current state of censorship and the fact that it’s a LOT harder to be openly gay in China than it is to be in most places in the west, you can’t censor or stigmatize away the fact that Chinese people still subconsciously appreciate queer romance. And if it’s kind of fetishy and there’s too much of a husband-wife dynamic? Well, so long as they’re happy, and truly in love, it doesn’t matter. Some people genuinely like that dynamic, so we’ll leave it as is.
We applaud The Untamed for being a breakthrough LGBTQ drama, and it is...because it’s made a breakthrough in the west. People all over the world can appreciate the love and care the cast and crew risked to make it a real love story between two men. But honestly, this isn’t the first major piece of LGBTQ media to make it to the Chinese mainstream. Farewell My Concubine 霸王别姬 was fucking censored when it came out in the 90s, but people still watched it, loved it, and still make media based off of it. There’s a whole fucking LGBTQ film scene in Beijing that struggles to even exist, but does indeed exist.
(There’s a whole other conversation about how censorship has prevented a lot of media from exploring more queer relationships that say FUCK YOU to the man-wife dynamic, but that’s for another day. See: Addiction [web-series].)
Whereas westerners generally had a more rigid and inflexible conception of how any relationship should work for centuries. When you rebel against homophobia, you rebel against the patriarchal, heteronormative structures that come with it.
This is a really long, nuanced conversation to have, and I don’t think I covered all the bases, but at least this opens up that discussion at least a little bit.

Stormed In (Palletshipping)
****ONE-SHOT (RATING: LEMON, BOYXBOY, YAOI)****
“W-well this is just g-great,” Ash shivered, as he stepped into a hollow semi-dry cave. “I’d say we’re going to be stuck here for at least a couple of hours, or until the storm dies down a little…” he looked up to the sky that was now flooded with storm clouds, and shook his head in disbelief. Just an hour ago, the weather was absolutely beautiful, with not a cloud in sight. “Geez, what a mess we’re in.”
“Well, Ashy boy, we’d be back at the lab by now if you hadn’t insisted on observing all of those Pidgey back on route 2,” Gary nagged, crossing his arms.
Ash rolled his eyes a little. How could he be this lucky. It was just a couple of weeks ago that he had decided to come back to Sinnoh partake in pokemon research, and today was supposed to be his ‘perfect’ first day. Instead, it was all but perfect. It all started when he woke up to his sickly Pikachu with a case of electrical overcharge. This both forced Pikachu to stay at the Pokemon Center, and caused Ash to miss the morning meeting where the all the new researchers got paired up with one another. Ash was happy to hear that he could still tag along in a quick day research assignment with a senior researcher, but his excitement quickly died when he found out that his partner was none other than Gary Oak. The same Gary Oak he just so happened to know since he was in diapers. The same Gary Oak that for some unknown reason, has always talked down to him.
“Well, it’s not my fault that a storm decided to sneak up on us on our way back to the lab,” Ash snapped back.
“Sure, blame it on Mother Nature, typical Ash!” Gary taunted, a hint of playfulness in his voice. For some reason beyond him, he kind of enjoyed seeing Ash get all flustered.
Actually, to say that Ash was flustered was an understatement. Instead, he was quite fed up with Gary. Ash turned away from Gary, deciding not to react. He started to trudge further into the cave. He thought he might as well explore what kind of pokemon live here.
Gary took notice of Ash’s inactive response, and frowned. As much as he liked seeing Ash squirm, he also knew that he could be a little overpowering at times. Although Gary felt like he couldn’t help it when it came to Ash. There was just something about him that made Gary’s heart feel confused about his true feelings for the younger boy. The only way Gary could think of defending himself was through teasing.
“Hey, Ash. What are you doing now?! You’re just gonna get lost, and then I’m gonna have to come find you.” Gary laughed.
Ash rolled his eyes before looking back at Gary “I might as well see what pokemon live in this cave. Just stay there. I don’t want to be around you!” Ash yelled back not caring anymore about his manners.
Gary sighed as he watched Ash wander further down the cave. I did it again didn’t I? he thought to himself If only I could just figure out how I feel about Ash, then maybe I could just be honest… No, what am I thinking?!? I can’t do that! There’s no telling what Ash will say or do!!!! Gary looked at Ash again, who was almost out of sight All I know is that I want to keep watching him…
Just as Ash was about to disappear from Gary’s line of vision, Gary impulsively started to walk further into the cave, following Ash’s trail. I just want to see what he's gonna do Gary reasoned with himself, as he picked up his pace. Being the quick mover that he is, Gary caught up with Ash in a matter of 30 seconds. It wasn’t until he was within 10 feet of the younger boy that Gary decided to start tiptoeing closer.
Gary’s secret pursuit only lasted for a couple of minutes before Ash finally turned around and spoke up “Geez Gary, I know you’re following me. Why don’t you just leave me alone! You don’t have to follow me around just for another chance to tell me that you don’t like me, ok?!? I get it!!” Ash shouted out.
Hearing this made Gary’s blood pressure rise. How did he know that I was following him?!? Gary asked himself. Then again, I guess we are in a cave, so sound travels… Well…I guess there’s no going back now Gary shrugged.
“Um, yeah. Sorry A-ash,” Gary stuttered out, suddenly nervous. “I just um.” Gary gulped fighting to form a cohesive sentence.
“Well, spit it out!” Ash said, somewhat annoyed at his so-called partner’s actions.
Gary breathed in, reaching deep inside to find his courage. He smiled as he stalked closer to Ash “Look Ash, I just really wanted to keep watching you.” Gary said earnestly.
Noticing that Gary was starting to get closer, Ash started to step back further and further. It’s not that he was afraid of Gary or anything, but more like that he wasn’t sure quite was going on.
“Oh, yeah?” Ash stammered slightly “W-why is that exactly?!?” Ash felt the heat rising in his face. “I thought you disliked me.”
“Why Ashy, I wish I knew the answer to that. I wish I knew exactly why everything you do drives me crazy. It makes me feel… weird inside, so I resort to teasing you.” Gary spoke with genuine emotion as he continued his advance.
As the day would have it, luck was not on Ash’s side, and before he knew it, he found himself trapped between the cave wall, and his rival.
“Woah, Gary… are you alright?” Ash quivered, slightly concerned. Never before had he seen Gary like this. “What has gotten into you?”
“Honestly, I’m not sure anymore,” Gary laughed as he finally closed the space between him and Ash. “Maybe the question should be, what have I been holding in,” He pinned the younger boy against the wall, and slowly brought his lips to his ear. “Sometimes I feel like I’m going out of my mind whenever you’re around. You ignite a fire inside me, Ash… it gives me jitters… explain that to me.” Gary murmured, his voice dropping lower with each sentence.
“Well… uhhhh,” Ash tried his best to reply, but any words he tried to form fell to wordless anticipation. However, amidst his uneasiness, he found himself enjoying their position, maybe a little too much for just being rivals. He could feel a tingling sensation circling through his knees, which rendered them unsteady. In fact, if Gary hadn’t been holding him up, he surely would have fallen by now. A new heat began rising in the raven haired boy’s body. A once angered ferver was now mixed with a sensual warmth, a deadly combination of emotions that made the blood rush to his face. In this moment, he was definitely grateful to whatever God that he was in a cave. If Gary were to see the blush he was sporting, he would undoubtedly never live it down. “M-maybe, you like-” Ash shuddered.
“Like what?” Gary cooed, as he breathed in Ash’s heat, his body practically attached to his.
“Not what… who…” Ash hummed weakly, unsure of how much more of this he could take. An ever growing lust for the older boy was festering inside of him. He needed Gary, and he needed him soon.
“I guess you’ve got me, there Ashy boy.” Gary whispered seductively. He could feel the sweat from Ash’s clothes start to seep into his. Ash tried to hold in a moan as best he could, but accidentally let some of it come out. This only made Gary’s craving for Ash stronger, and he wasn’t sure how much more he could hold back. He wanted Ash all for himself, to claim him as strictly his. He was fairly confident that Ash felt the same way, after all he wasn’t running away was he?
“Gary freaking Oak,” Ash moaned using the rest of his energy “You’re good at teasing me, and now’s no different. Is that w-what you want me to say?”
Gary gasped in shock of Ash’s bluntness, but was grateful for the hint. From there, Gary wasted no more time. Within seconds, his mouth found its way to the side of Ash’s neck. The reaction was almost immediate as Ash let out an appeased groan. The butterflies in the younger boy’s stomach were up and flying once again, as in a second flat, his hands made their way to Gary’s bottom, pulling them closer. Taking some charge, he slipped his hand underneath Gary’s boxers, and started to slide his fingers lightly up and down Gary’s opening. The two boys were now grinding against one another, in a desperate hunger for the other.
Gary made quick work with his hands, as they crawled under Ash’s shirt. His fingers roamed up and down Ash’s torso several times, before finding rest on Ash’s hard nipples. Taking the mounds between his fingers, Gary started to twist them. The motion was soft and sweet at the start, but the more Ash whimpered, the rougher Gary got.
Ash groaned as his free hand roamed to the front of Gary’s body, quickly finding the older boy’s hard on. At the same time, Ash grasped Gary’s length, and inserted two fingers in Gary’s scorching hole. Ash began pumping slowly on both ends, which made Gary hiss in deep pleasure.
“Damn, Ash,” Gary breathed “Harder, faster!!! Please!!” Both boys were starting to grow tired, but they both couldn’t stop their pace. After all, they were only getting started.
Ash started to pump as hard as he could, which made Gary rock his head back and his hips forward. For a couple of seconds, it was safe to say he was putty in the younger boy’s hands. Regaining some composure, Gary bounced back, and finally crashed his mouth onto Ash’s. Their tongues frantically fought for dominance over the other. Deciding to play dirty, Ash squeezed Gary’s length just enough to make the older boy gasp in shock. This was all Ash needed to overtake Gary’s tongue, and enter his mouth. Ash smirked, quite pleased with himself, as he took Gary’s bottom lip between his teeth, and lightly sucked.
Gary shook his head, appalled at Ash’s actions. “Now Ash, you know boys who don’t play fair get punished” Gary growled as he hastily spun Ash around, so that the raven haired boy was in the “little spoon” position. “It’s a good thing I’m here to teach you a lesson or two,” Finding his second wind, Gary started to vigorously grind against Ash, and within seconds Ash fell into pleasured silence.
Unsatisfied with Ash’s level of volume, Gary picked up his pace. “C’mon Ashy boy. Don’t fight it. I want you to scream out my name, tell me what you want” Gary firmly demanded.
Ash’s eyes rolled to the back of his head “g-ggARy, please, I NEED YOU INSIDE ME PLEASE” Ash shouted hard of breath. The gyrations Gary produced were going to be enough to push Ash over his edge right then and there, but he had to hold out for just a little bit longer.
“See? Was that so hard? Now, you were a bad boy, Ash. I’ll have you know that I could just stop everything right now, but lucky for you, I’m feeling nice today. Strip down” Gary commanded, and Ash quickly complied. Gary also unzipped his pants, and whipped out his fully lengthened member, lightly pressing it against Ash’s entrance “Is this what you need Ashy?” Gary smirked.
“GOD GARY, YES! PLEASE FINISH ME OFF!!!” Ash yelled at the top of his lungs, on the brink of insanity.
Happy with the response, Gary finally shoved himself into Ash with all his might, extracting a gratified trill from him. “Geez, Ash. Too bad I can’t see you very well. I’d bet you look so sexy right now with me inside of you,” Gary grunted, starting to pump back and forth.
Ash let out another string of soft groans, and bucked his hips back and forth to help Gary reach his G spot. “Damn it, Gary, I’m really freaking close!”
Taking notice of Ash’s encouragement, Gary started to pump harder and faster. Sweat beaded the older boy’s entire body from head to toe as he kept pumping. It wasn’t long before his quick and structured movements became sloppy and careless. “Hold on, Ash! Just a couple more,” Gary said with three lasts thrusts, before he finally pulled out. Both boys screamed out for the other as they reached their climaxes, their bodies moving as if they just got electrocuted.
At last, both boys found themselves coming down once again. The once cold air in the cave was now hot and humid. A comfortable silence hung in the air, as both boys put their pants back on.
Fiddling with his zipper, Ash let out a small giggle; Gary looked over his way. “What’s so funny?” he asked the younger boy.
“Oh, it’s nothing…” Ash said coyly. “It’s just… promise me that we can do that again sometime?” Ash blushed
Gary smirked as his hand caressed Ash’s chin, pressing a quick peck on the raven haired boy’s lips. “Oh we definitely will. After all, we’re research partners aren’t we?”

Review: The Stranger by the Shore (Movie)
Tumblr media
Good Morning, Good Evening, Good Afternoon! Josh here! You know, I’ve been an anime fan for a little over 20 years now, and over the course of those 20+ years, I’ve watched shows or movies where I’ve said to myself, “I really don’t think I’m the target demographic for this one.” When I heard the premise of The Stranger by the Shore, I originally thought, “Meh, this just looks like one for specific fans of this genre. Probably not for me.” But this past Sunday, I saw Twitter go crazy over this movie, heaping prodigious praise for this rather short film, so I figured “Meh, why not? I need to watch something to wash the tastes of Girlfriend, Girlfriend out of my mouth” and checked it out.
Three viewings later, and I can honestly say that I was, in fact, exactly in the target audience for this one. Why? Because it’s about love. And after watching the farce of Girlfriend, Girlfriend, I kinda needed to be reminded what pure, genuine love looks like, and how this particular kind of love has many challenges both internal and external.
So what makes this movie so good? Let’s get into it. I’m Josh, the Cajun Samurai, and this is my review of The Stranger by the Shore...and interestingly enough, this is my very first review of an LGBTQ+ anime!
Okay guys, time to be a bit serious here. I know, it’s weird coming from me, but don’t worry, it won’t last long. I am duty-bound to let you guys know that this movie is rated “TV-14” on Funimation’s website, and honestly, were I in charge of the rating scale, I would probably rate it a little more mature as it does feature talk about sex and features characters engaging in intimacy. While nothing is seen, much is implied. If you decide to watch this film, but are put off by this sort of thing, it starts at 47:00, and ends at 49:30 if you’re streaming on Funimation’s website. Okay, end of disclaimer. Let’s get into it.
Tumblr media
The Stranger By The Shore is based off a manga series by Kanna Kii. It begins with Shun, a writer living in Hokkaido with his aunt after running away from home. Why would he run away? Simple. Shun is gay and would not enter into an arranged marriage with his childhood friend. His parents were naturally upset over this revelation (How dare you not marry the bride we picked out for you?! And how dare you have other preferences for who you love?!) and so Shun hot-footed out of there to his aunt’s house to work on his book.
One night, Shun sees a young man making like Otis Redding and sitting on the dock of the bay watching the tide roll away. Shun’s aunt explains that the boy, named Mio, is now an orphan after having recently lost his mother (his father died earlier). Shun decides that he wants to try and befriend the boy, but Mio is having none of it, misinterpreting Shun’s advances as pity over the loss of his mother. However, this misunderstanding is quickly cleared up and Mio apologizes, saying that he was actually glad and didn’t mind if Shun was trying to flirt with him. After a day of unsuccessful fishing and a delightful dinner of curry, Mio reveals that he’s being sent to an orphanage on the mainland of Japan, and would only be able to communicate with Shun by phone once he arrives. Shun is pretty down about this.
Tumblr media
Time passes and Shun’s cousin is moving out to live with her girlfriend, leaving an open spot at the house. Who could possibly fill it? Why, it’s Mio of course. Our boy is now 20 years old and is able to make his own decisions in life, including but not limited to love. Mio is fully ready to start up a relationship with Shun, not caring what society thinks, but Shun, having been on the receiving end of rumors and teasing about his sexuality, tries to get Mio to think twice about his decision, not wanting him to be ostracized as he was. This results in a couple awkward moments where Mio really wants to take their “relationship” to the next level, but Shun dragging his feet, just barely able to say “I love you” to Mio.
Oh, and if that weren’t enough, later on, Shun’s former fiancé, Sakuraku, comes to the village with some news: His father is gravely ill and wants to see his son before he punches his ticket on the Midnight Train to Georgia. Naturally, Shun is not too excited to see the parents who shunned him, nor is he excited to see the woman who he was once engaged to (albeit through an arrangement). Mio meanwhile is showing some signs of jealousy and a little insecurity at this new arrival. Is this new girl going to take Shun away from him? Will Shun actually go back to the girl that he left at the alter? Find out next time on DragonBall Z!
Tumblr media
So yeah guys, I really and truly like this one. As I mentioned, I’ve watched it three times so far since it came out. The first time I watched it on my own just to see what all the commotion was about. Then I watched it a second time to take screencaps and offer up Twitter commentary as I typically do, and the third time…well…it was because the movie is just that freaking good.
It’s awesome just viewing a romance play out over time and watching two people deal with their respective issues to find one another. That’s part of what drew me to shows like Toradora, Kare Kano, Yuri on Ice, Wotakoi: Love is Hard for an Otaku, and Horimiya. Watching a romance from the very beginning and see it work itself through to its inevitable conclusion is beautiful, and that’s what you get with this one.
I also love the fact that this just isn’t a typical high school romance story. Yes, I know how ironic that sounds after the last sentence where I praised a bunch of high school based shows, but still… sometimes you just want a story with two mature adults instead of two crazy kids who are probably operating more on hormones than true love…even though there are times when Mio, young lad that he is, REALLY wants to make his relationship with Shun more physical, bless his heart.
Another thing that I really loved about this story are the differences in how Shun and Mio see the world with regard to their sexuality. While Shun sees their relationship through a somewhat wary lens, and doesn’t want Mio to be hurt like he was, Mio is much more of a free spirit, not allowing anyone or anything deny him from what he really wants. Part of me feels like the differences between these two are because of the times they grew up in. Shun is older than Mio, and no doubt grew up in a time where being LGBTQ+ was something to be scorned, mocked and bullied for. Mio, being a more modern and in some ways a more mature young man, understands what he’s in for and yet has no problem with it because he knows he loves Shun and in his mind, that’s all that matters.
Tumblr media
One other thing that I find refreshing with this movie is that it doesn’t have any complex or mystical story lines. While I enjoy movies like Weathering With You and Your Name, sometimes those movies can just be too complex for their own good, adding mystical elements to a story that can at times clouds the waters. In fact, there are two moments where the characters seemingly pass out at different times during the movie after highly stressful situations, and I couldn’t help but think, “Okay, here comes the magical mystical stuff…these two are the reincarnation of some long lost, Feudal Era star crossed lovers that are bound by fate by the red string of something-or-other and they have to find the mystical key of the twilight or something…” But to my great surprise, these dorks were just TIRED. No magical journey, no mission they have to accomplish, just…tired. That is surprising. The Stranger by the Shore pretty much makes the characters the standout elements. These guys don’t have mystical powers, there’s no legend they have to figure out in order to save the world, there’s no time travel or dimension portals… it’s just a love story like any other.
Tumblr media
Speaking of things that aren’t a big deal… I feel the need to address the elephant in the room. Yes, the intimate scene between Shun and Mio. Honestly… it’s a non-issue, as it should be. It’s two characters that are of age sharing an intimate moment with each other and they just so happen to be two males. It happens in loads of different anime and it’s not a big deal. Honestly, I found the way the moment was executed to be very realistic, gentle and tastefully done. If you avoid BL anime entirely, (and no judgement whatsoever–it’s not for everyone; watch whatever makes you happy) I suggest you check out our recent articles examining yuri and yaoi anime and see if those give you some food for thought, and maybe make you more likely to try out The Stranger by the Shore. Yup, I’m a true southern gentlemen–offering up Food for Thought. You always offer food to your company, thought or otherwise. Now go and get your grub on.
Tumblr media
If I could find any faults with this movie, it’s probably that it’s too short and doesn’t give the characters enough developmental time. There’s just so much more I wanted to know about these adorable dorks: What was Shun’s life before the arranged marriage? How did he end up becoming a writer? What was Mio’s father like? How was Mio’s time in the orphanage? At just under an hour including credits, it feels like this movie could’ve explored so much more and expanded this beautiful world it created. This movie does a great job giving us endearing and lovable characters, but not enough time to fall even deeper in love with them.
Also, as a somewhat unrelated complaint, Funimation, please do the streaming anime community a favor. Please, please, PLEASE fix your video player! It’s just a mess! Sometimes the volume bar would be stuck on the screen long after I adjusted it, thereby ruining any screen captures I wanted to get. Also, please add closed captioning to the English dub video. It’s really a drag that the hearing impaired can’t enjoy the writing in the dub like everyone else, and it also sucks when bloggers like myself don’t have the text at the bottom of screen captures for context of a particular scene. You are partially owned by Sony Pictures… you can do better than this! But, I digress…
Tumblr media
Speaking of Funimation, this movie was dubbed and released by Funimation Entertainment with director David Wald in the director’s chair. Honestly this was quite a shock to me as I would’ve expected Sentai Filmworks to put out a title like this, as they have never been shy to license and dub anime with LGBTQ+ themes. Yes, Funimation has put out a few here and there, the most famous being Yuri on Ice, but in my eyes, Sentai has always been THAT company to go to for movies and anime series like this. In fact, Hi Dive, Sentai’s streaming service, has an entire section devoted exclusively to LGBTQ+ anime and movies. Funimation? Not so much. But I digress.
Director Wald does an amazing job with this production, getting outstanding performances out of Josh Grelle (Shun) and Justin Briner (Mio). These two are just AMAZING in their roles, and captured these characters perfectly. Just try not to think about that when watching the English dub of Dr. Stone, as these two guys also play the bodyguard brothers Kinro and Ginro respectively. Speaking of Dr. Stone, listen closely and you’ll hear Senku Ishigami (Aaron Dismuke) as one of Shun’s classmates in a flashback.
Tumblr media
So where does that leave us? Simple. This movie ranks a prodigious 9/10 for me. A must see. The Stranger by the Shore features a story that’s simple yet beautiful, adorably awkward and engaging characters, and acting that is just top notch in the English dub. The only thing that you may find a problem with is that there isn’t more of it. By the time the ending credits roll, you’ll want more of this one. Trust me.
Tumblr media
Yes, I know that the story of two guys starting a romantic relationship might not be in everyone’s wheelhouse and the intimate moments might be something that gives you pause, but honestly, wherever you fall in the sexual identity debate or however you feel about it on a religious level, I can’t stress enough that you owe it to yourself to give this movie a chance. Because, at the end of the day, A has much to say about love and acceptance, things we ALL know a thing or two about and long for—gay, straight or otherwise.

chapter 4 - you’ll get along
“you'll get along with a little prayer and a song”
series masterlist - here
previous | next
a/n: don’t you just love it when the lyrics and the content of the chapter i wrote don’t match at all. anyways, here’s the fourth chapter. i had to put off writing it because i’ve been drawing my own yaoi characters plus my uncle who’s a doctor collapsed at work just the other night :( anyways, enjoy!
-
The night you brought Takeo to the ER, Kuroo stayed with you. Even when you stayed until the next day. He insisted that he’d drive you home. Thank goodness, it was Saturday the next day. You remember the warm feeling in your chest as you watch him doze off in his seat while still securely holding Kazuo. You were attracted to him, to say the least. But you didn’t want to make a mistake by making any moves because you were sure he was just being nice the whole time you’ve known each other. You know, because you’re that dense.
The doctor gave you a green light to take him home but he must be under your supervision. The five of you went back to your respective homes, with Kuroo carrying both Kazuo and Masao while you carry Takeo. Upon arriving at your apartment, you feel fatigue wash over you but you couldn’t succumb as Takeo needed to be monitored.
So, there you were, sleepily watching over the triplets as they sleep, eyelids getting heavier as time passes. When the clock struck twelve, Masao and Kazuo were quietly playing with their toys, occasionally glancing worriedly at their brother. You debated whether you should cook or order food, afraid to leave your poor son alone. Just as you were about to pick up your phone to order you heard your doorbell ring. Your brows furrow in confusion, you weren’t expecting anyone.
You open the door to a smiling Kuroo holding up two bags of food in front of you. “I heard what the doctor said earlier so I figured you wouldn’t want to leave Takeo for a long time.”
“That’s so kind of you. Come on in.” He slips off his shoes then walk in, taking in the interior of your home. “I haven’t really had a chance to clean up so it’s kinda messy.”
“That’s fine. It’s cute. My apartment’s so empty.” Kuroo was looking around when he saw Kazuo and Masao peaking from inside their room, probably only vaguely recognizing him. He waved at them and showed them the food he brought.
“Do you want to eat?” The two boys’ eyes sparkled as they smiled widely and nodded yes.
“Um, Kuroo, may I ask you a favor?”
“Yeah, sure.”
“Can you watch over Takeo in their room, I’ll take care of the food.” You took the bags from him then guided him towards the triplets’ room. “We’ll eat here. I’ll bring a table.”
He looked around the room painted in baby blue, the walls covered with various stickers and drawings while a portion of the floor was cluttered with toys. He looked at the baby pictures carefully placed on top of the dresser and then at Takeo. The poor boy still hasn’t woken up ever since they left the hospital. Kuroo sat next to the sleeping boy’s bed and adjusted the blankets.
Unbeknownst to him, you were standing by the door when he did do. You smiled warmly at how gentle he is towards the boy. When he spotted you from where you were standing you placed the small table you brought over.
“Let’s eat.” With that, you shared a nice meal together, almost like a family.
The following weeks had you changing the routine you’ve gotten used to. This time you could sleep at least 20 more minutes which you and the triplets really appreciated. Not only does Kuroo drive you to the daycare and to the university, but he also helps in preparing food and/or the triplets. On times he’s free after class, he offers to pick the boys up from daycare and watch over them as they wait for you to come home from work. He remembered the first time he picked up the boys, the teacher had mistaken him for their father and for some reason that made him happy. Aside from that, the two of you had gotten so much closer that you’re practically considered a member of Kuroo’s friend group, which only really consisted of Akaashi and Bokuto. Sometimes the two would even help Kuroo with babysitting because he was bad at it as ‘three against one is too cruel’ he said.
Tonight, the three watched over the boys as well. In return you planned on having them stay for dinner as usual. Dialing Kuroo’s number, you push the cart you randomly took from one of the aisles.
“Mama!” Kazuo answered.
“Oh, hi, baby! May I talk to Tetsu?” You heard shuffling from the other line which you could only assume that it’s Kazuo running over to Kuroo.
“What’s this? Mama? Okay, thank you, big boy.” The sound of Kazuo giggling then yelling Takeo’s name filled your ears before hearing Kuroo’s answer. “Yes, mama?”
You laughed then joked, “What would Papa and his friends want for dinner.”
“Oh? So, I’m Papa now?”
“I was kidding, Tetsu. So, what do you guys want for dinner?”
“Hold up. Hey, what do you guys want for dinner?” You were sure Akaashi suggested something but it was covered by Bokuto’s loud ‘Curry!’. “We just had curry the other night. How about hamburger?”
After a few seconds of silence Kuroo finally finalized the decision of having hamburger for dinner.
“Alright, I’ll just buy the ingredients we don’t have at home. See you later!”
After shopping, you came home to Bokuto, Akaashi and Kuroo each carrying one of the triplets and making them ‘fly’ like superheroes. You smiled to yourself as you watch your boys have fun before having your eyes unconsciously drift to Kuroo, taking in the sight of him genuinely smiling happily. He caught your gaze and you quickly looked away.
“Hi, boys. Having fun?” The triplets tried to break free from the three males grasp as soon as they heard your voice, yelling ‘Mama!’ in chorus. You kneeled down in front of them to give them a big hug and a forehead kiss each.
“Hi, mama. Do we get kisses, too?” Kuroo teased.
You rolled your eyes, “Shut up, Tetsu. Akaashi, can you help me cook?”
“Of course.”
Approximately half an hour later, dinner was served. You had to serve dinner in the living room as the seven of you couldn’t fit at the dining table. The boys chow down their food, excluding Akaashi who ate slowly while muttering something about having table manners. After eating, Bokuto (surprisingly) offered to wash the dishes, Akaashi and Kuroo were sitting on the couch, each holding Kazuo and Takeo while you carry a sleepy Masao. You gently bounce him up and down while humming a soft lullaby your mother used to sing to you.
Kuroo marveled at the sight of your motherly side. He’d already seen it plenty of times but it still doesn’t fail to make him fall deeper. He found it admirable how well you’re able to care for the boys even when you were tired from university and work. He tried to sneakily snap a picture of you but Akaashi caught him in the act.
“Shh.” Kuroo whispered to Akaashi whilst holding his index finger to his lips. He knew Akaashi wouldn’t snitch but he still did it just to make sure.
By the time the boys decided to head home, the triplets were already asleep. You quietly thank them for their help then apologize for not being able to walk them downstairs at least.
“We’ll stop by again next time to play!” Bokuto whisper-yells as they walk away. You nod then wave to them goodbye.
You turn to Kuroo who was also waving to his friends as they walk away. “Thank you again for today, Tetsu.”
“You’re very much welcome, (Y/N).” He said before pushing you back into your apartment. “I’d love to chat more but you look very tired already. Wash up and go straight to sleep. Oh, but don’t forget to lock your doors.”
“Sheesh, okay, Mom.” You laugh. “Goodnight, Kuroo.”
“Goodnight, (Y/N).”

Chapter 22 - This Venerable One's Shizun is Getting Angry
When Chu Wanning heard this, he was so angry that he could barely keep himself from retracting Tianwen and slashing the Chen couple. But he couldn't open his eyes to confront them. Once he opened his eyes, the barrier would be broken. The Return to Truth barrier could only trap a ghost once. If his interrogation was interrupted, he wouldn't be able to listen to any more of Luo Xianxian's story.
All he could do was contain his overwhelming rage and continue listening to Luo Xianxian.
After she died, her soul entered the underworld, unaware and confused.
The only thing that she could make out was a woman wearing red and green robes with facial features that resembled the Master of Ceremonies Ghost enshrined in a temple. The Master of Ceremonies Ghost stood in front of her and asked her in a soft voice: "You and Chen Bohuan couldn't share a bed in life. Would you like to share the same grave in death?"
She hurriedly agreed: "Yes. . . Yes please!"
"Then I can let him come join you right away. What do you think?"
Luo Xianxian wanted to blurt out a yes, rushing to agree, but suddenly remembered something and froze. "Am I dead?"
"Yes. I am the Master of the Underworld Ghost. I can give you the destiny you deserve and fulfill your long-cherished wish."
Luo Xianxian was startled: "Then, if he comes to join me, will he. . . also die?"
"Yes. However, if loves persists in the afterlife, life and death are irrelevant. What difference does it make?"
Chu Wanning heard this, he thought to himself that he had been right; this Master of Ceremonies Ghost would persuade others to make a wish so that she could reap the benefits. This immortal was truly diabolical.
Although Luo Xianxian died unjustly, she hadn't yet become a malevolent ghost, so she repeatedly shook his head: "No. It wasn't his fault. You can't kill him."
The Master of Ceremonies Ghost smiled compassionately: "And what did you get in return for this kindness?" It didn't force Luo Xianxian to do anything. As an immortal being, they could persuade someone to make a bad wish, but they couldn't force them. Its figure gradually faded away, its voice becoming hazier and hazier.
"Return to the world in seven days. During those seven days, go and see how the Chen family is faring. After that, I'll ask you again if you still have no regrets about your decision."
Seven days later, the day arrived.
Luo Xianxian's soul returned to a conscious form and returned to the world of the living.
Following the old road, she eagerly walked towards the Chen house to see her husband for the last time.
Unexpectedly, the Chen house was decorated with lights, and outside the courtyard, there were fireworks. Bridal flowers were decorating the halls. and a big "double happiness" banner was hanging in front of the main hall. Madam Chen was radiant, not appearing sickly in the slightest. She was smiling and instructing the servants to wrap the bouquets with red silk.
Who. . . was having a wedding?
Who. . . were the bride and groom?
Who. . . no one was engaged, what was going on?
Who. . .
She walked through the busy crowd, listening to the sound of people in the world of the living.
"Congratulations, Madam Chen. Your son is getting engaged to the daughter of the county magistrate. When's the wedding?"
"Madam Chen, you're so fortunate."
"Yao Qianjin is truly the lucky star of the Chen family and they aren't even official yet. Madam Chen, you look so much healthier already."
"Your son and Yao Qianjin are a match made in heaven. I'm so jealous, hahahaha."
Her son. . . Her son. . .
Which son?
Which one was marrying the daughter of the Yao family?
She shuttled back and forth across the familiar front yard, growing more and more frantic, looking for that familiar figure in the midst of all the laughter.
Then she found him.
In front of the peony flowers in the back hall, Chen Bohuan stood with his hands behind his back with a haggard face and sunken cheeks. However, he was dressed in red. Even though it wasn't a traditional wedding outfit, it was a Caidie Town custom. When a prospective son-in-law comes to propose marriage, he should wear this type of red gown.
Was he. . . going to propose. . .?
The decorations in the whole house, the strings of gold and silver beads, was it all. . . was it all from Chen Bohuan, her husband, as a dowry for the daughter of the Yao family?
She suddenly recalled the time when they got married.
There was nothing but two people that shared one heart - nothing else.
There was no master of ceremonies, no bridesmaids, and no dowry. The Chen family weren't wealthy at that time and didn't even own a decent set of jewelry. He went into the yard and picked a delicate orange blossom from under the orange tree they had planted together and carefully tucked it behind her ear.
She asked him: "Does it look good?"
He said it looked beautiful. After a moment of silence, he stroked her hair with some sadness and told her: "You deserve so much better than this."
Luo Xianxian smiled and pursed his lips, saying that it didn't matter.
Chen Bohuan told her that when he married her three years later, he would hold a lively wedding banquet. He would invite people from all over the world. He would have her make a grand entrance on a large sedan chair. He would give her gold and silver to wear, and the dowry gifts would fill the entire main hall.
Those vows still echoed in her ears. Now, all those promises have come true, the hall filled with gifts and guests.
He was getting married, just not to her.
A monstrous flame of anger and sorrow surged through her. Luo Xianxian screamed, trying to tear at the hanging red silk in the room.
But she was a ghost; she couldn't touch anything.
Chen Bohuan seemed to vaguely notice something. He turned around, staring at the silk moving despite there being no wind. His eyes were dull and hollow.
His little sister came over, a white jade hairpin clipped on the side of her bun. She didn't know who she was secretly mourning by wearing it.
She said: "Big brother, go to the kitchen to eat something. You haven't had a proper meal in days. You have to hurry up and go to the county magistrate's house later to propose. Your body won't hold up."
Chen Bohuan suddenly asked without thinking: "Sister, did you hear someone crying?"
". . . What? No, brother, I think you're still. . ." She gritted her teeth and didn't finish her thought. Chen Bohuan still stared at the fluttering silk sheets.
"How is my mother? Is she happy? Has her illness been cured?"
". . . Brother."
". . . I'm glad she's feeling better." Chen Bohuan stood there, muttering to himself. "I already lost Luo Xianxian, I couldn't live without my mother."
"Brother, go eat something. . ."
Luo Xianxian wailed. She yelled and bawled with her head in her hands.
Don't go. . . don't go. . . please don't go. . .
Chen Bohuan said: ". . . Alright."
The tired figure disappeared around the corner.
Luo Xianxian stood alone in a daze, large tears rolling down her face. Suddenly, she heard the brothers of the Chen family who killed her approaching. The second eldest brother and the younger brother were whispering to each other.
"Mother is finally happy. Finally, things are going our way."
"Right? She pretended to be sick for half and year. Now that that cursed bitch is gone, how could she not be thrilled?"
The younger brother tsked and said, "How come she died? We wanted to force her out, not kill her. Was she really so stupid that she couldn't even find someone to help her?"
"Who knows. She was weak, just like her rotten father. It's not our fault that she died. Even though mother pretended to be sick to get rid of her, our family has its own struggles. Think about it, when the options county magistrate’s daughter and some pauper girl, only a fool would choose the latter. Besides, even if Yao Qianjin is a brat, she's got enough money to go around."
"Yes, she's so dumb. She didn't want to live so she let herself freeze to death. No one could've saved her."
The words drifted to her ears.
After Luo Xianxian died, she finally understood the so-called "Divine Fate". She was completely broke and couldn't compare to the county magistrate's daughter who was so noble and honourable.
Only a fool would choose the pauper girl.
She finally snapped.
She returned to the Master of Ceremonies' temple full of hatred and resentment.
She died there. Unlike how weak and helpless she was when she died, she returned with overwhelming hostility.
She used to be such a kind person, but now, all the hatred and evil that had been built inside her while she was alive came flooding out. She roared, her eyes turning red, her soul trembling.
She said: "I, Luo Xianxian, would like to give up my soul and follow the path of wickedness. I only ask you to avenge me! I want the Chen family - I don't want you to kill them!!! I want. . . I want to let my beastly mother-in-law kill her sons by her own hand! All her sons!!! I want Chen Bohuan to go to hell with me!!! Let him be buried with me!!! Do it for me!!! I hate them! I hate them!!!!"
The eyes of the clay sculpture on the shrine shifted and the corners of its mouth slowly raised.
A hollow voice echoed through the temple.
"I have heard your prayers. It will be as you wish. As an evil spirit - kill all those that you resent -"
A piercing blood-red light flashed, and Luo Xianxian couldn't remember anything after that.
However, Chu Wanning already what happened next. After that, the Master of Ceremonies Ghost manipulated Luo Xianxian's spirit to possess Madam Chen and force her to kill each member of the Chen family.
The red coffin on the top of the mountain, the reason why Chen Bohuan was dug up, naturally, was because the Master of Ceremonies Ghost was fulfilling Luo Xianxian's greatest wish - "Let Chen Bohuan and I be buried together." Moreover, it deliberately placed the coffin on the property of Chen Bohuan and his new wife as an act of spiteful revenge.
As for the floral scent in Chen Bohuan's coffin, it was the scent of the butterfly fragrance powder that Luo Xianxian had worn before her death. The resentment and fragrance in the coffin were both extremely strong because Luo Xianxian's soul was resting alongside Chen Bohuan inside it.
Luo Xianxian had no family. According to the customs, if a person like that dies, their bones should be cremated instead of buried. Therefore, she had no physical body and could only be contained within the coffin by the Master of Ceremonies Ghost. That's why, when Chu Wanning opened the coffin with his willow vine, Luo Xianxian had escaped the coffin's containment. Her soul flew away, and it was difficult to recapture. It was a situation of "a closed coffin being heavy with resentment but an open coffin being light".
But during the illusion, why did other people have dead bodies as their partners but Chen Bohuan only had a paper-mache ghost bride?
Chu Wanning thought for a moment and figured out this much:
The Master of Ceremonies Ghost didn't break its promise. The paper-mache bride was the "physical body" that it gave Luo Xianxian. It was a vessel so that Luo Xianxian could be buried with Chen Bohuan.
Everything was clear.
Chu Wanning looked at the weak and helpless girl in the barrier. He wanted to say something but didn't know what to say.
Elder Yuheng wasn't particularly good at comforting words. He couldn't think of anything, so he stayed silent, not having anything he could say.
The girl stood in the vast darkness with her soft round eyes open.
Chu Wanning looked at her eyes and couldn't bear it. He wanted to leave. He didn't want to take another look. He was about to open his eyes and leave the Return to Truth barrier.
Then the girl suddenly spoke.
"Lord Yama. I. . . I have something else I want to tell you."
Chu Wanning: ". . . Alright."
The girl suddenly lowered her head, covered her eyes, and cried. She said softly, "Lord Yama, I don't know what I did after that. But, I. . . I really didn't want to kill my husband. I didn't want to be an evil spirit. I really. . ."
"I didn't steal the oranges. I really am Chen Bohuan's wife. And I truly, truly didn't want to hurt anyone either."
"I truly didn't want anyone to get hurt. Please believe me."
Her voice choked and trembled, her words breaking.
"I. . . didn't lie. . ."
I didn't lie.
Why is it that, in this life, almost no one believed me?
She sobbed and screamed. Chu Wanning's voice sounded low in the darkness. He didn't say much, but he said it with conviction.
"Okay."
Luo Xianxian was shocked.
Chu Wanning said: "I believe you."
Luo Xianxian wiped her tears with her hands indiscriminately but couldn't hold them back. Hiding her tearful face, she lowered her head and bowed her head in his direction in the darkness.
Chu Wanning opened his eyes.
After he opened his eyes, he didn't say anything.
Time in the barrier wasn't the same as in reality. He had stayed there for a long time but, for the people waiting outside, it had only been a moment. Mo Ran hadn't returned yet. The few remaining people in the Chen family were still looking at him with bated breath.
Chu Wanning withdrew Tianwen and said to Madam Chen: "I'll avenge you. You can find peace."
Madam Chen froze and opened her blood-red eyes, and suddenly fell to the ground with a thud, knocked out cold.
Chu Wanning raised his head again. His eyes swept across Chen's face then landed on the youngest son. His voice didn't waver, and it was still frighteningly cold.
"I'll ask one last time." He said each word slowly and decisively. "Did you really not recognize whose voice that was?"
