Rest
Guess what? I've got more Jamil x reader for y'all. You can also find this on ao3. No warnings, just 866 words of kinda fluffy(?) caretaking stuff with gender-neutral reader.
At this point, you know Jamil’s schedule almost as well as he does. So, when you have the chance, you head to Scarabia’s kitchen, hoping to spend some time with Jamil while he and the other students prepare dinner.
However, when you enter, it takes you but a moment to notice Jamil’s uncharacteristic fumbling and the tired look in his eyes. The way Jamil’s chopping the vegetables has you worried about him cutting himself with that knife he’s usually so adept with, and it seems it’s only force of habit that’s keeping him on track.
You frown, and when your eyes meet Jamil’s, you can already see him put his guard up.
So he knows what state he is in, huh? And still, here he is.
It seems Jamil is reading your thoughts, all of him telling you drop it before any words are even said.
At least he still lets you lean in and give a quick kiss to his cheek in greeting.
“Hello love. Do you still have a lot on your agenda for today?” you ask, keeping your tone low for at least some semblance of privacy in the busy kitchen.
“Nothing I can’t handle,” is the response you get.
Of course.
It takes a little more pestering before Jamil actually answers your question. Your lips purse. That list is far too long to your liking.
You take a moment to think, juggling your own plans and to-do list against the urgency of the things Jamil mentioned.
“Will Kalim be eating from that?” you ask, pointing at the food Jamil is preparing.
“Yes.”
“Alright, I won’t be touching that one, then. I’ve gotta do a few things but I’ll be back when you’re done here.”
“Don’t,” Jamil says with a glare, clearly aware of what you’re thinking.
Yet even his disapproving look doesn’t have the usual weight behind it.
“Yes. I will,” you say firmly, even as your heart curls inwards with another bout of concern.
Really, when did he get so tired?
And how did you not notice it earlier?
You leave the kitchen before Jamil can protest further, hurrying through the dorm corridors to find Kalim.
Soon you have an enthusiastic – and concerned – supporter for your plans. You have Kalim point out a few reliable Scarabia students to help with a few of the most urgent matters Jamil mentioned – cleaning up the common areas, delivering some paperwork to Crowley, preparing some dorm-wide notices – while you see to Kalim getting his school supplies in order for the following day. You even recruit a couple of third years to help Kalim with his homework.
You’ll see to the rest tomorrow – after all, you do also have a boyfriend to look after.
Your conversation over dinner can hardly be called anything else than an argument – despite Kalim’s best attempts at acting as a moderating force between you two. It is very tempting to ask Kalim to tell Jamil to take the rest of the day off – it’s not like Jamil would be willing to openly disobey a direct order. Still, you really don’t need to remind Jamil of his position on top of everything else that you’re already doing more or less against his wishes.
Eventually, however, Jamil’s had a square meal, the most urgent things on his to-do list are being taken care of, and you’ve managed to drag him to his bed.
“I really wish you wouldn’t push yourself so hard,” you murmur, your arms wrapped tightly around Jamil. You’re telling yourself you really do just want to cuddle, to offer some respite to Jamil. Still, there might also be a part of you worried that if you were to let go, he’d just jump up and get back to working himself to the bone.
Yet, for all his protestations, just the fact that you’ve gotten Jamil to lay down with you speaks volumes of his current exhaustion.
“I can’t just leave my duties, albi. You know this.”
“Making yourself too indispensable, is what you’re doing,” you protest.
Oh, you know it’s not so simple. Not with his background, not with all the expectations and assumptions.
But sometimes you really wish it would be.
Jamil merely scoffs in response to your words.
Still, it is undeniable that he is slowly beginning to relax in your arms, slowly bringing his head closer to yours. His eyes are starting to flutter, too.
“I will still need to help Kalim with his homework, at the very least.”
You wonder who he is trying to convince more, you or himself.
“Amin and Khalil are helping him. They’re basically top of their classes, aren’t they? I’m sure they’ve got it.”
Still, Jamil frowns.
You sigh. He really is not letting go, is he?
“Do you want me to go supervise?” you ask.
And leave you, unsaid yet hanging there right after your words.
“Don’t,” Jamil eventually says, the word barely more than a breath.
It seems he has accepted his fate.
You softly caress Jamil’s hair, listening to his softening breathing.
And when you wake up, wholly unaware of having been lulled to sleep in the first place, it’s to the lightest of touches from Jamil’s fingers.

timers and curfews.
Tumblr media
i find myself,
starting to hate timers.
why?
i'll never know.
well
actually
i
do.
as you wrap your
arms around my waist,
i feel my body shiver;
twitch.
i feel the concept
of
time start to become
the least of my worries...
images of what we could do
while frank ocean plays,
flash in my
perverted mind.
my breathing quickens.
your hands trail further.
my body leans in closer.
i respond with a soft sigh.
and there it is.
that god awful.
timer.
to ruin our moment.
we awkwardly say goodbye.
i roll over as you drive away.
and i lay,
and think,
"maybe another time."
Tumblr media
maybe i'm just bad at acting on affection.
the song i listened to today:

and now thinking of regency aus etc i just got assaulted with an idea (and idk if anyone has already done this or not)
prince Steve being betrothed to princess Nancy since he was 11 or 12 years old, but they only start interacting in person when he's 15 and he falls head over heels for her, since he already had this whole idea of being a better King than his father (and a better father than his father), being faithful, having a lot of kids and loving his Queen until he died.
and then a few days before their marriage at the ripe age of 16 ('cause you know, they had to marry as quick as possible for kingdoms to stay in peace or some shit) Princess Nancy gets drunk and calls him bullshit, calls their relationship bullshit and it breaks Steve heart since it wasn't bullshit to him, he really loved her, but after that he has no desire to go forward with the marriage since he wasn't willing to marry someone who didn't love him back
so with his heart broken and the clothes on his back he runs away, he grabs a horse from the royal stable and fucking books it, doesn't care where he is going, doesn't pay attention to were he's going, he just wants to get far away from the castle, from the kingdom and from the life that maybe wasn't completely his own.
and along the way he meets the kids and Eddie (and maybe Eddie could be a creature? a witch? or maybe just some guy that turns Steve's world upsidedown and shows him what real love is 😔)

This is technically an attoye dream I had but I’m turning it into a free write story and gonna hyper fixate on this for a few days.
Historical romance price set in 1820-1870
Tumblr media
A Muscogee indigenous boy, named Michael by the catholic school, is angry at the injustice of the world and wants to be free from his native residential school in Georgia. At 19, He is too old to continue school and refused to learn to read English, he can only speak it enough to converse with his bosses.
As a factory worker, he meets Miss. Celia, a 17 year old slave girl who is soft spoken and sensitive to the world. He sees her being harassed by a drunk plantation owner and protects her before she takes him to her home to patch him up.
He tells her his real name is Takoda Lanon , and she calls him that from now on.
When she figures out he can’t read, she attempts to teach him but he grows frustrated, but he continues to try because he is falling in love with her. And she is falling in love with him.
He sneaks to her little cabin in the fields every night to eat her food and try to get , her to run up north with him. She is hesitant as her life on the plantation is all she has ever known. When he gets her pregnant, she knows she has no choice however: if they find out who got her pregnant, they’ll kill her baby and hang Michael.
Will they escape Georgia before she begins to show, will he be caught running away from the catholic school? 🤭

Native American Legends—An Anthology
Now that I am at the tail-end of my first novel, I’m having that panic-stricken anxiety of what comes next; the agent, the editing, beta readers and word counts (seriously, my book may be over 200k words. I overshot it lol). My biggest panic, though, is its second book, and what I wish for it to look like.
I am writing a sci-fi/fantasy series focusing on mythology from areas that don’t get as much love as they should. Rick Riordan has done a justice for Greek, Roman, Norse and Egyptian—but there’s just so much more out there. And something near and dear to me, as an Indigenous POC, are the legends of the first people of North America. This is what I wish for my second book to focus on, and I’ve been casually (read: obsessively searching at 3 am) browsing for good sources and such to build the basis of my second book.
Looking up information on these legends…yeah, it can be tricky. Gentrified too, in the name of hippy shaman and ‘spiritual beings’ who attribute one belief of one tribe to what 'Native Americans’. believed as a whole (therefore sticking us all in one teeny tiny stereotypical box). So that’s why I wanted to provide you all with my favorite source for Native American legend!
FIRST PEOPLE
Not only does this site have hyperlinks to Indigenous-Run stores and a Photography Series of (non-sterotypical) Native people throughout the years, but they also have the largest Anthology of Native American/First Nations legends I’ve seen so far. A to Z—from Abenaki to Zuni and everything in between (like Nahua/Aztec and Blackfoot, tribes of yours truly!). It also possesses an Educational Resources page that helps connect readers with a wide array of informative websites to better extend your knowledge – or to lend a hand. It even has good clip art!
There’s a beautiful, informative, and non-colonizer-influenced page dedicated to educational videos, and another with treaties/agreements made throughout the year with many different tribes. There’s a glossary that explains the roles of different tribes’ deities, as well as the meanings of those tribes’ names and just how many are in North America (organized by state/Province, hyperlinked differently depending on location). And, finally, links to individual tribal websites, where you can hopefully learn more during that late-night-rabbit-hole deep dive.
Take a browse! This website has helped me feel connected with my people as someone who grew up without that chance, and even if you don’t need it as a writing resource—it’s such an interesting read!
If this website interests you so much that you wish to extend your thanks in the form of donating (hey, those hosting fees aren’t cheap!) use this link!

So I'm doing some more writing for my worldbuilding project...
Anyone else hate the Calibri font with a passion? I'm finding that with my typing I grow a disdain for default fonts. I changed it to Georgia for my docs right now, and I think I like it better -- I feel like I don't know fonts like 2010 Microsoft Word Meryl did.
I guess, um... recommend fonts, please?

Names I'd like to have more in media for metaphorical reasons
Disclaimer: I'm doing this out of the back of my head, so don't come after me. I'm not an expert in anything and I might have a different interpretation of the story. Do your own research.
Eve/ Eva/ Ewa
Christian/Jewish
The first human woman, she was banished from paradise because she was curious.
For those who were punished for curiosity
2. Adam/ Edim/ Edam
Christian/ Jewish
The first human man, he was banished from paradise because he trusted Eve
For those who blindly trusted the ones they love
3. Pandora
Greek
The first human (woman), she was gifted with a jar, that she was told to never open. She did it anyways (because she was so curious what is in the jar) and released all bad spirits (violence, war, famine, illnesses etc.) onto this world. She now has to guard the jar, which contains only one spirit: Hope
For those who brought evil into this world, without meaning to
For those who bring hope
4. Seth
Egyptian
Everyone hated Seth because he was the god of the dessert. So he killed his brother Osiris (the current king) to get the throne, the rule over the people who ignored him all those years.
For those who were always dismissed
For those who gave themself justice (or revenge)
5. Gnowee
Wotjobaluk (Native Australian)
Personification of the sun. She once was a mortal woman, who lived in darkness on earth and people only could move with the aid of bark torches. One day she left her little son sleeping while she tried to look for food. As she tried to go back, she couldn't find her son. So she climbed the sky to look for him, but she will never find him.
For those who never give up
For those who will do everything for their children
6. Israel
Jewish
His "Christian" old name was Jacob. He went to the desert, fought against God and won. So he got a new name (Israel) wich means: He who fought God
For those who fight against something bigger than themself
7. Hestia
Greek
She is the oldest Olympian Godess and the Godess of family. Her siblings all have petty (all of time), but she always tries to negotiate between her family
For those who are for peace
8. Romolus
Roman
He founded Rome with his brother Remus. When Remus did something against Roman Law, Romolus killed his own twin.
For those who are so obsessed with rules that they sign their own doom
9. Lorelei
German
She was like a siren but kind of different. Lorelei was the daughter of a river (the Rhein, if I remember correctly) and always sat naked at her father's side, because he promised to protect her or sm. So when sailors saw the beautiful Lorelei and wanted to get to her, her father Rhein always drowned said sailors.
For those who get a lot of bullshit from men
Those who don't do anything wrong, but always get wronged
10. Atlas
Greek/Roman
He is forced to carry the sky until eternity.
For those who are doomed with a task that will ultimately destroy them
I may do a part two in the future. Stay tuned.
