Ko-fi thank-you sentences for @aralintheobsessive; kidnapping your soulmate for fun and profit.
"Oh, I see," Tim observes non-committally, trying to figure out if he can move up that six-month timeline somehow. There's got to be some corner he can cut or something he can cheat, if he just–
"Do you wanna hang out for a little while before you leave the island?" Superboy asks hopefully. Tim stares blankly at him for a moment. What kind of question is that? Most people would be upset to find out they'd only have a little while to hang out with a newly-discovered soulmate, but Superboy's asking like he expects him to want to just . . . what, swap cell phone numbers and then go on about their normal plans?
First of all: no. Second of all, Superboy doesn't know it, but this is the damn plan, so still no.
"That sounds cool, yeah," Tim says, applying Smiling Normal Civilian Face #5, which is a little softer. Superboy brightens, inexplicably turning red again. Tim has the even more inexplicable urge to pat his face about it.
This is definitely not a platonic soulmark, no.
Okay, so Tim's . . . gay, he guesses? Bi? Pan? Just–some sexual orientation that includes telekinetic alien hybrids that are at least male-presenting, anyway. That or Superboy is a trans girl and just not out yet, which he supposes is an equally logical option.
. . . probably Tim being at least a little bit gay is likelier, though, because Superboy really is a look in that torn-up skin-tight costume he's barely wearing right now. Though Tim could also be bi and Superboy could be trans; it's not like either of those possibilities precludes the other. Actually, that combination of queer identities would probably work out pretty well, right?
At least, he assumes it would. Tim has admittedly not looked into that kind of thing too much, what with assuming it wasn't ever going to be directly relevant to his life. He infiltrated a GSA-style support group for a month and a half once for Robin-business and that's all he's really got to go on. His cover had been "kid with a newly-out older brother who was seeking basic information", just to minimize any concern about him dropping off the face of the earth after the necessary recon in the center was done, so he hadn't had to know anything even then, really.
Apparently he should've been paying less attention to the layout and staff and more to the actual conversation.
Go figure.

Can Bruce read his gremlins a bedtime story?
Tumblr media
Once upon a time—
Ugh, no. Go back and try again.
Jason, let the man read.
Not when it sounds like that. It's Sleeping Beauty. A fucking five-year-old can do it.
Alright, starting over. Once upon a time, there lived a princess in a castle.
Where else would she live?
I get what you're saying. Where was I? Right. When she was born—
Can we go back for a second? What kind of castle are we talking about?
Not again.
A good story has detail, Cass. Now give me the layout. Is it more mid-century or a little earlier? What fortifications do they have? Do the floor plans allow for guards to covertly sneak around? Are they prioritizing enemy intimidation or civilian—
Mid-to-late-century, reinforced walls with hidden cannons and watchtowers, they have underground tunnels, and civilian trust because their only enemy is Maleficent. As I was saying—
What's their contingency plan?
Tim!
The story is the contingency plan, you wet sack of hamburger meat.
Wow, spoiler alert.
Someone called?
I thought you went home?
And miss this trainwreck? As if. Too bad Tumblr doesn't have more colors because Duke would love this.
Huh?
It's a fourth wall thing. Don't worry, I've been working on my impression of him.
Let's see it.
Please don't.
"My name is Duke. I cry at Lord of the Rings."
In his defense, Frodo and Sam have a beautiful friendship.
Back to the story. When she was born, her parents threw a grand jubilee where all the kingdom and its fairies was invited. The fairies all arrived with presents—
You think they would have a baby shower before the baby is born, right? What, the first few days they're just going without diapers?
This was the Middle Ages. They believed in leeching the humors out for a common cold.
Also, you can throw showers after the kid arrives. Our own dad did it.
At least you weren't the guinea pig. Try explaining to a bunch of important rich people who brought gifts that actually, there is no baby, it's me and I don't need diapers or footie pajamas.
Says the guy wearing a Kid Flash onesie.
Says the one in a Superboy shirt and conspiracy theory pants. Pick a side.
I have two hands and I'm not ashamed.
Okay, there's a lot to unpack there—
Jason married Roy!
What?!?
It's for tax benefits. Not all of us can own a multi-billion-dollar corporation.
Your name's on the will.
Yeah but I'm never gonna get it 'cause Bruce isn't gonna die long enough for me to use it.
What do you mean?
He's talking about the retcons. You should ask Duke, he can see into other dimensions.
Ooh.
Ahem, I believe Father was telling us a story. I speed-read it so I know they all die at the end, but I'd like to hear your delivery.
Damian, you're reading this morning's obituaries.
Same thing.
Truelove'skissbrokethespellandtheylivedhappilyeveraftertheend. Terrible job everyone, now lights out.

Aqualad: most underrated Young Justice story
Tumblr media
Just wanted to kind of layout how interesting his story was as I feel of the OG team his reserved personality makes him not stand out over the rest and some only thought he was interesting when playing the bad guy in season 2
Tumblr media
Aqualad a young adopted kid training to be the next Aquaman with his best friend, and is in love with a girl. But he takes the opportunity to be Aquaman’s sidekick which takes him away from his best friend and crush
Only for him to come back in some months just to find that his best friend got with his crush…
Tumblr media
And he has to essentially still save the day and be the hero, come to terms that he lost her due to his “job” while not being upset at them the arguably two closest people in his life
Like this is in any other medium is a movie in itself
Add through season 1 he’s the leader of a bunch of interesting personalities and was like the calm big brother of the team
Then in the time skip, his crush joins the team meaning he can finally spend the quality time with his crush he had to sacrifice before, and it’s a bit unclear if they ever got together during this time but on the mission she dies on your watch…
Tumblr media
Not much time later you find out that your mentor/King’s enemy is your biological father so dealing with all these emotions is again it’s own movie itself
Not even going to go into the whole double agent thing in season 2 that people already like
But then one of your best friends Wally dies and you’re thrusted back into the job as your other best friend grieves his own way leaving mostly on your own
Then in season 3 he does it he becomes Aquaman he’s another leader of the Justice league everything is going seemingly fine
Tumblr media
But does fall too deep with the secrets again…
And between seasons 3&4 he finds a new love
Tumblr media
But all this time his first issue keeps coming back of balancing work and life which is how he lost Tula before and how he perceives to have lost Superboy until later revealed he’s fine
Idk I think Kaldur has the sneakily best story through the show in total
Characters like Nightwing adjust with each season more to fit that season's story than something overarching, and Miss Martian will always have her identity problems and so on but I feel the others weren’t as detailed as Kaldur I feel
Tumblr media
I’m just saying you could easily make an amazing movie animated or real life about Kaldur the secret son of a villain learning under a hero and on the way has to juggle the problem of hero and villain and work and life and love or duty
You would literally just need to adjust his hero name tbh as I don’t think general audience will wanna watch a movie called Aqualad tbf
Like Garth got the Tempest alternative when he’s not Aqualad either swap that as Garth is still kinda seen more as Aqualad due to comic history and teen titans or just give him a new name as a character like Tim Drake will probably always be Robin primarily but he still has a couple of alternate names he can go by
Tumblr media
Random but I kinda of like Tide, from Tidal Wave or Rising Tides or a play on his comic counterpart Jackson Hyde
Tumblr media
And for visuals Kaldur has the Atlantean magic that Aquaman doesn't have so he can water bend for a more interesting power set as Aquaman is basically just super strong with no aquatic life around
Plus can generate electricity has weapons etc. giving him a mix of Queen Mera and someone like Robin
Idk I just feel that this version of Aqualad you could make its own version of the story just about him and be well received by a majority

LoSH Appreciation Week Day 1 - Shore Leave
Tumblr media
For my Interlac zine A Tale of Two Proties #81, June 2019, I used the layout of the cover to Superboy #206, but reimagined the backup story "Welcome Home, Daughter -- Now Die" as the lead cover story. At that time I was doing black and white zine covers, hence the lack of color.
In my mind, the actual story not only involves Princess Projectra taking some leave to visit her parents on Orando, but also has that nightmare sensibility like the Star Trek episode Shore Leave. A bit of a stretch perhaps, but I'll take it. A pleasant visit home to a medieval planet of castles and knights interrupted by the threat of death, and the dreaded Morgu. What's not to like?

YJ bedroom comparisons Part 2: the girls! (Part 1 is here.)
Cassie
As far as I know, she only has one room over the course of her pre-2003 appearances. There's no indication that she and her mom ever move. But the look and layout of her room begins as inconsistent across various artists, and even when a settled design emerges, it continues to change depending on the artist.
The earliest approach to Cassie's room, as drawn by her creator, shows a very small space with lavender walls. There is a bed with a teal and black checkered bedspread and built-in bookshelves, an armoire (in addition to the closet), a desk and chair, and a laundry basket.
The clutter is a mixture of her childhood possession and current interests. She has multiple teddy bears and a Superman plush, board games, books, and a record player and records. There's a glimpse of a computer keyboard on desk, and lots of posters and art and paper on the walls and doors, especially posters of heroes like Wonder Woman and the Flash. The floor is littered with scattered laundry and hangers. This is the bedroom of a typical girl with a normal childhood and a lot of admiration for superheroes, which is accurate.
Tumblr media
(Wonder Woman 1987 #113)
Two other early views of her room are inconsistent with this and don't show much. One is painted blue-grey and the other orange. The first gives glimpses of posters and photos; the other shows shelves full of books and boxes (including one helpfully labeled "BOX"), a dresser, and a Little Nemo poster.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Wonder Woman 1987 #139 and 147)
The next version is yet again completely different but will win out as the prototype of her room's "official" look. It has lavender walls (maybe Cassie was experimenting with painting her room and decided to go back to the earlier color?) and a slanted roof. The bed has pink sheets and a blue bedspread and shelves built into the headboard, and there is a round nightstand with shelves, a desk and chair, and a blue rug.
She's a little older now, and her possessions are starting to reflect more teenage interests alongside her childhood stuff. She has multiple plush toys (including Pikachu, a hippo, and a turtle), books, a wind-up toy, what looks like a VR headset (?), a phone, papers and a pencil, a boombox and a few CDs, schoolbooks, a mug, a bag, scattered clothes and shoes, a computer keyboard on the desk, and an absolute shrine of Superboy posters and photos, plus a poster of a girl band called Spice World (no celebrities were harmed etc.) The "No Dou[bt]" sticker on her headboard might be a reference to the "No Fear" logo, which was everywhere in the late 90s/early 2000s.
Tumblr media
(Wonder Woman 1987 #153)
Cassie's room as portrayed in YJ 1998 is clearly intended to be the same as the room above but with some modifications. The roof no longer slants, the walls are pink, and there is pink carpet instead of a hardwood floor. The furniture is the same, although the bedspread is now pink and she has a Flash throw pillow, and there are additions of a bookshelf, a dresser, and a blue plastic blow-up chair (very late 90s/early 2000s! I think one of my sisters had something like it).
Her décor is aggressively Teenage Girl of the Turn of the Millennium. There are posters that directly reference or parody bands and TV shows of that era (Frontstreet Boys, Spice Girls, Wendy the Werewolf Stalker, Dalton's Creek), something that might be anime ("Ja[...] Warrior"), and superheroes (Flash, Green Lantern, Superboy--only one now and it's behind the door rather than prominently displayed).
Cassie is just as messy as the boys! Items visible include a jar of gumballs, books (including one with "MST3K" on the spine), a pen, a snow globe, a framed photo of her and Cissie, a lamp, comics (Flash and others), a figurine (Pokemon?), an alarm clock, a candle(?), a soda can and chip bag, scattered clothes, a boombox and CDs, a phone, a magazine called Mega Teen, multiple plush toys (including a blue Pikachu, some kind of antennaed alien, and Superman), a duffle bag, a basketball, action figures, a TV, a piggy bank, a framed photo of Diana, a trash can, a bulletin board, a computer at her desk, and sticky notes nearby reminding her to call Cissie and tape MST3K and read certain pages for science.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Young Justice 1998 #16)
Tumblr media
(Young Justice 1998 #19)
A different artist during the Sins of Youth arc depicts the same room but with colors changed yet again: lavender walls and blue carpet with a brown bedspread. There are many of the same items as above but with additions including a horse poster, Titanic posters, potted plants, an astronaut action figure (Buzz Lightyear?), and even more plush toys including a tiger and a cat and a rabbit.
Here, an aged-up Cassie laments how stereotypically youthful her room is, and it's an accurate assessment (although nothing for her to be ashamed of--she is a teenage girl, why shouldn't her room reflect that?). Out of all her team, she has led the most normal, stable life, with a complete childhood, and her room attests to this.
Tumblr media
(Sins of Youth: Wonder Girls #1)
Cissie
The earliest room we see for her is her dorm room at the Saint Elias School for Girls, where she lives for the entirety of the YJ 1998 run. At this point, Cissie is still using the frilly costume that her mother provided her, and her room similarly is aggressively girly, especially for a dorm. It has pink walls with a floral border and pink bedding. There's also a desk and bookcase.
Cissie's belongings reflect her archery career and her connections to superheroes. On her wall are a poster of Superman, photos, and a bulletin board. A Batman plush and three teddy bears are her only concessions to childish interests. There's also a lamp, a framed photo of Bonnie King as Miss Arrowette, first-place ribbons and trophies, and books (including such titles as C. E. Letters, Broken Arrow, Shaft, The Life and Works of Ethan Van Sciver, Works (or Words?) of Crybaby, a photo album, Kaniuga: Missing Link, Advanced Archery, JHR's Genius, Kupp's Darkseid, The Biography of Oliver Queen, Robin Hood, William Tell, and Views of L.A. Some of these are references to the names of this issue's writer, penciler/inker, colorist, letterer, and editors!).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Impulse #41)
Cissie's dorm in YJ 1998 appears to be the same room (now specified as 118), judging by the placement of the furniture and poster, but it is now completely redecorated in a more neutral style that more realistically reflects a dorm room. The walls and bedspread are now blue-gray, and there is crown molding instead of a border. The desk has been moved to the other end of the room. New additions include an alien plush (in place of her earlier stuffed toys), a dresser with mirror, and a computer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Young Justice 1998 #20)
By #27, she is rooming with Traya Sutton (Red Tornado's adopted daughter, and they're in Room 356, but we don't get a good look at it until later.
This dorm room has light blue walls and bedspreads, two beds with nightstands and bookshelves, a desk, shelves of boxes, and a window with a window seat between the beds.
Cissie has a bulletin board with something about MST3K pinned to it (a mutual interest with Cassie), a box of filed fan mail, an alarm clock, books, framed photos (an unidentified boy, and her with Cassie), a plush toy, an archery trophy, a 2000 Olympic archery poster, and a Wendy the Werewolf Stalker poster after she guest-stars on that show.
Unlike the other kids, she is tidy in her habits (probably a necessity while living in a dorm where there would be regular room inspections), and her possessions are more overtly grown-up, especially when compared to the much younger Traya's things. Her "fun" items are minimal, she doesn't seem to have many fandoms, and most of her things have to do with her accomplishments.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Young Justice 1998 #30)
Tumblr media
(Young Justice 1998 #33)
Greta
She presumably lives at the YJ headquarters, but if she has a room or any kind of personal space there, we never see it, because no one ever hangs out there.
We do see two of her past living spaces in flashbacks. First, her cell at the DEO. It has light green walls and minimal furnishings: a brown rug, a bed with white bedding, and a table with two chairs (why two? she's in there alone). The DEO has given her a paper and crayons (it looks like she's drawn a tree), a book, and a couple of dolls and their hairbrush, probably in order for them to study how she interacts with these items. There is no décor and no apparent other possessions, and worst of all, the room is windowless with a glass ceiling. She has no privacy at all and cannot leave this room (until she figures out how to escape).
Tumblr media
(Young Justice: The Secret #1)
Tumblr media
(Impulse #56)
A far cry from Greta's childhood bedroom, which we see as it was when she was very young. It has pink walls and carpet, a bed with a blue bedspread with a pattern of yellow ducks and pink and white striped sheets, and a dresser. She has Barbies and their clothes and accessories with a dollhouse and car, action figures, a hairbrush, a ball, something that looks like an easel, a drawing she made of a rainbow and birds, another doll and a plush toy, a pink and white shoe under the bed, a lamp, a frog clock, and a copy of Alice in Wonderland. Very typical possessions for a little girl. She's the only one of the YJ girls who is seen to have owned dolls (her Barbies even briefly transform into her YJ friends during this flashback).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Young Justice 1998 #42)
Anita
We get a very brief glimpse of her bedroom at home. Blue walls and carpet, white bed, nightstand, and desk. She has posters of Wendy the Werewolf Stalker (like almost all the other girls!) and someone called "Crisq[...]", a lamp, a glass of water, a small box/container, a plush toy (Martian Manhunter?), a book, a pen, paper, and scattered clothing. Not overly revealing of her interests, but a general impression of a typical teenage girl's room.

OK so thoughts.
Re-read Reign of the Supermen, and finished up the Death and Return of Superman Omni, which was in my reading order continuous with all post crisis comics - read all the post 1986 comics before it and had good context now.
The actual death of superman was underwhelming. explained here. according to trivia, the writers and artists wanted to do something where they were like 4 panels per page the 3rd issue before his death, 3 panels the 2nd issue, 2 panels per page the issue before his death, and 1 panel per page, so all splash pages, the issue of his death. Which I can respect wanting to experiment with panel format, but I think if they were doing 1 panel per page the layout of the panels should've been much more creative. can sketch out what i was imaging later.
but anyway the death of fight scenes were the ONLY underwhelming parts. I generally liked everything else and the post-death issues kicked so much ass I felt myself legitimately getting sad. the newstime comic format was creative and great from a worldbuilding perspective. and lois's reaction to superman's death ;_; I think Louise Simonson is one of my favorite Lois writers.
Hank Henshaw's motive felt kind of "eh" to me. Like. He was the guy orchestrating everything but the reason why was very ¯_(ツ)_/¯. Like if you've seen the movie, his rhetoric is similar - he wants to bismirch superman's good name to get revenge on him now that he's dead because he blames superman for his discorporate state and the death of his wife... but in the comics he was 1 of the fantastic 4 expy characters who were exposed to massive radiation and slowly dying, his wife was saved by superman and then she went to a mental hospital b/c its the only thing DC knows to do with female civilian characters who aren't dating superheroes, and she was alive last we saw her? unless they kill her in a side issue. and henshaw voluntarily leaves earth to explore the cosmos in superman's birthing chamber ship.
Eradicator was another character who previously showed up in the run and then later reappeared in Reign of the Supermen. He started out as a weapon created 200,000 years ago on krypton to kill cloning-protestors and then wound up being acquired by superman during the exile in space plotline as an artefact of kryptonian culture that gave him a fancy unbreakable cape, then it was revealed the eradicator was slowly brainwashing him and then wants to terraform earth into new krypton or something and he tosses it into the sun where it reforms and comes back in the guise of a supervillain taht gets beat up and disappears seemingly to death until superman dies and then it reappears as the eradicator that more people are familiar with and helps save superman.
superboy and steel are both new to this plotline so they don't have quite so much pre reign of supermen baggage :P

Holy shit, you're taking the misunderstandings tag seriously for the Kon and Jon wip. Are we getting a comics made Clark and Bruce really similar vibe? Because if you time it right... Bruce can be on his 5 year becoming Batman trip and they get to live with Alfred. Won't even be suspicious since Kon is definitely familiar with the mansion layout and weird gaps get explained away by the interdimensional bit. Don't worry Alfie, they're totes metas, not aliens ;) Please, sir, may I have some more?
Jon sniffles again, then abandons his half-crumbled cookie and turns in Kon’s lap to wrap his arms around his neck. Kon puts a hand on his back and rubs reassuringly. Or as close to reassuringly as he can. He doesn’t know how this Jon and his Kon get along, but apparently they don’t totally hate each other so that’s . . . something, he guesses. Like–a start. Although Jon also might just be desperate for anything resembling a familiar face, so who knows.
His Jon kind of just politely doesn’t care that he exists, mostly, so–yeah. Who knows what this kid thinks of his Kon.
Jesus, he’s getting fucking maudlin, isn’t he. Just because maybe everyone he knows is dead or has been uncreated? C’mon, Superboy, get it the fuck together.
. . . Supernova, he reminds himself belatedly, and rubs Jon’s back again. That’s his new hero name. He’s barely even used it, but . . .

When your Bard friend disappears for 6 hours as soon as you get to Solitude and returns with the Wabbajack saying the Mad God Sheogorath is a 'pretty neat dude'.
Core Disaster Week, Day 2 - Fantasy AU (The Elder Scrolls)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, so, I'm definitely gonna talk more about this AU in the future 'cause, goodness, this one consumed my life for a whole week trying to figure out how all this works.
Ramblings of a lunatic below
A quick, basic rundown (all Classes I mention are based on Morrowind and Oblivion, but their story takes place in Skyrim): Bart is an Imperial Bard, but not a singing one like Jaskier, more someone who keeps a log of their adventures and makes stories out of them (idk if there's a specific word for that). But he's also a Scout on the side, being trained by Tim, 'cause Tim isn't about to let his friends not be able to defend themselves! No one knows how Bart Joined them, specifically. He literally just showed up one day and stayed (not that anyone is complaining of course, he can be a good people person where Kon and Tim might fail).
Tim is a Breton Agent, trained by Bruce, who was trained by the Morag Tong (which is the closest I can find to the League of Assassin's). Tim comes from a fairly well known family in High Rock who knew the Wayne family in Markarth, Skyrim. They planned on visiting for just under a month, but on their last leg of the journey, their cart was attacked by Forsworn. Somehow Tim survived, was picked up by the city guards, and taken into Bruce's custody and stayed there as he had no other family in High Rock to go to. After he started living in Markarth he would eventually meet Kon, who would visit the Court Mage, Calcelmo, with his father every other month.
Kon is a Dwemer/Breton Spellsword. Idk how, but I created a whole backstory for Clark and Lex in TES. It’s fairly extensive but the gist is; Clark is a Dwemer (which, considering they're extinct in TES is the best I could come to for alien), and Lex is a Breton Mage. Lex had moved into the newly built property on the edge of Falkreath hold (on the road to Riverwood and Whiterun). Clark would often make deliveries on that road and thus would often pass by the house (he’s was basically the only person to talk to Lex since 1. Lex was ‘that weird Mage’ to the two nearest towns and 2. the only one who would go by there constantly, it became a good stopping point on the way back) (It’s basically early Smallville) Blah blah blah, some weird type of Necromancy to make new life, decided to use Clark's blood, but it wasn't stable so Lex used some of his own, idk I'm BSing all of this, Boom, Conner.
Clark was super disgusted and horrified with what Lex did, can considering how many times he said he tried this, didn't think Kon would live, so Clark ran away to go on that adventure he's always been wanting to go on. But, surprise surprise, Kon did survive and was raised by Lex. Lex tried to make Kon a mage like himself, and it sorta worked, but he was also good at wielding a sword, so when was of age, he became a Spellsword for hire and quickly join Tim on touring Skyrim.
