actually i WILL yell more about him
so lonnie appears several times in the netflix Arrow 🤢🤢 and they do him SO dirty
im convinced it was a "we need a new villain" "in the comics theres this guy called Anarky-" "perfect" and just RAN with it
idk off the top of my head how many times lonnies interacted w oliver in the comics. but he does only appear in the green arrow comics twice(11yrs apart)
like we all know lonnies this good guy. hes for the people. methods are.... yeah. but understandable
but then the. man i looked at the arrowverse wiki out of curiosity before looking at those eps and...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i hate it here it makes ZERO SENSE
first theyre like "ohhh anarchy" then "make him work for the mob" and stuff its so wrooonnggg
i already said it in a different post, but when hit with feargas his thing is about the wellbeing of others+the world
ALSO
in that '94 issue of green arrow that lonnie appears in(as anarky). oliver sides WITH lonnie
basically green arrow arrives in gotham(for whatever reason), sees a bunch of people with guns and disarms them, only to be tazed by anarky. he wakes up in a van with those people+guns. they explain they stole guns from sellers all across town to try and reduce access and thus gun violence. then go around and share stories about family and such being harmed. and olivers like "oh my god. i almost took out the GOOD guys!"
the van rolls up to a manufacturing gun factory, oliver inquires about this, lobnie explains theyre gonna evacuate all the employees and then blow it up. oliver says that theyll just rebuild and it wont stop anything in the long run
"are we supposed to vote? wait for bills that are never going to pass? what happens in the mean time, how many lives will be lost?"
Tumblr media
oliver... i guess passively agrees and leaves them to blow up the factory
except the detonator breaks! oliver shows up again "this bow is supposed to MEAN someyhing! you drive and get me close ill shoot the semtex" and kablam blows up the factory the end

Earth-Prime: Superman & Lois (April 2022)
We’re taking another time jump because we couldn’t resist talking about Tom Grummett’s return to Superman comics! For one issue, but still! This is a tie-in comic set in the world of the current Superman & Lois TV show, and we’ve known for some time that we have at least one fan of the ‘86-’99 era in the writing staff (there’s no other logical explanation for including freaking Sam Foswell). So, we were delighted but not surprised to see some shout outs to our favorite era in this issue. The comic includes three stories:
The Anniversary
Clark and Lois tell their kids the story of their first anniversary, which happened several days after it should have because one of them is a busy investigative reporter and the other is a busy investigative reporter AND a superhero. References we spotted:
We find out that this Clark shaves by reflecting his eye lasers on (presumably Kryptonian) metal, just like ours does, as established way back in 1986′s Man of Steel #4. Don Sparrow says: “Tyler Hoechlin (who plays Superman) has joked about how fine-tuned Superman’s heat vision would need to be to get his signature 5 o’clock shadow look, and here we see it in action.” Maybe he wants to do a full shave but his heat vision isn’t just as strong as comic book Superman’s?
Tumblr media
Also, we see the Planet offices in the panel above and that’s obviously Ron Troupe there, but I wonder if the blonde is Andrea the intern, a secretly fascinating minor ‘80s-’90s character we gotta write an article about at some point (”Andrea” was a fake name; she was actually a supporting character in another comic who ran away to Metropolis).
Don: “Page 10 is a treasure trove of triangle era terrors, as we see not only Toyman, but also Hi-Tech, Killgrave, Barrage, Loophole, (another personal fave) Sleez, and Supergirl TV series Vigilante Philip Karnowsky all in one shot.” Barrage and Karnowsky being there is funny because Barrage’s name in the comics IS Philip Karnowsky, but the Supergirl show turned him into Vigilante. Also, are you sure that’s Professor Killgrave in the back, Don? Kinda looks more like Roger Stern to me.
Tumblr media
Don again: “Superman also later faces off with Lobo (making me wonder if it’s the Irish SyFy version of the character, who I’d love to see on a proper Arrowverse show -- along with the excellent Brainiac from that series, while I’m dreaming). Lobo in turn makes reference to a female ‘redhead’ who has hired Lobo to track down Superman, which must be Maxima, given how often one of this issue’s writers talks about her on Twitter.”
Tumblr media
Lobo then takes Superman to a place he “borrowed” from an old drinking buddy. Don: “This is it, ladies and gentlemen! Our first Arrowverse reference to Bibbo Bibbowski, albeit in the form of a Bubba Gump shrimp like restaurant, which Lobo steals entirely, Carmen Sandiego-style.” Wait, is this really the first reference to Bibbo in this universe in 10 years?! For shame. I would have started there.
Lois investigates a crooked politician who turns out to be in league with Intergang and the late (in our continuity) Bruno “Ugly” Mannheim. Also, just noticed that the cabbie below looks an awful lot like Professor Hamilton, who perhaps had a harder time finding work after his prison stint in this universe. (It was a missed opportunity not having him say the cab ride was $6,50, but I guess those prices are no longer realistic.)
Tumblr media
Finally, the last page continues the long tradition of ending stories with a shot of Superman flying away from the Kent farm, started in Man of Steel #1. Don says this “should have been the issue’s cover” and I agree!
Tumblr media
Father’s Day
A short story revealing how Pa Kent (and Robert Redford/Dustin Hoffman) inspired Clark to become a reporter and help people. No specific ‘86-’99 shout outs that we could spot.
Controlled Burn
The previously unrevealed origin of the evil Superman from the reality the show’s version of John Henry Irons hails from, who wears a black costume reminiscent of our Superman’s post-resurrection suit. Speaking of that storyline, we see a familiar scene regarding the DCU’s unluckiest city... Don: “Man, Coast City just can’t catch a break!”
Tumblr media
This story includes an important appearance by “Morgan Edge,” but if you’ve watched the show you know the character is very different from his comic book counterpart. Also, a cameo by Magog, but since we’re living in 1994 we don’t know who that is (yet).
Don has much more to say on this issue, including references to other Superman eras and movies! Incidentally: Those who have read this issue, try to guess which page Don had signed by his personal friend/fellow Canuck Tom Grummett...
Art-Watch (by @donsparrow):
We begin with the cover by Kim Jacinto, and it’s… bad.  Not good at all.  I do appreciate that they included Tyler Hoechlin’s signature stubble, but otherwise, it’s a complete turnoff, especially in an issue where the interiors are drawn by the legendary Tom Grummett.  To get pedantic: neither Hoechlin, nor Bitsie Tulloch have brown hair in the series.   Tyler’s hair has no spit curl, his eyes are green, not blue.  Jordan Elsass has light brown hair, not bright yellow, and no human being has faces like the super-sons are shown to have here.  But I get that there are just as many readers who would prefer this cover over the interior art, and art appreciation is totally subjective.  (And I admit, it’s entirely possible, and likely, even, that I’m just flat out envious, and wishing I could do a cover like this one.)
Inside, we’re thrown immediately into familiar surroundings, as we see the Kent farm in the moonlight, and it’s a great, comforting image to kick off the first chapter.
Tumblr media
Everything we see is screen accurate, somehow without just looking like they’re tracing still images from the show.  The cast here is a perfect blend of actor resemblance, and classic cartooning, so that you know who each character is, without slavishly looking identical to the performers.  If pressed, I’d say Tom’s Lois looks the most like on-screen, but there’s not a wrong note for any character.  The page layouts take a repetitive rhythm as you read the book, with the layouts being so similar page to page that it almost reads like an animatic as you turn the pages.  The left page always has an action splash page taking up about 3/4s of the page, with a three-panel sequence of either Clark or Lois missing the other as they cover the tumultuous events of their lives as heroes and journalists, while the right side has a similar grid of the couple making plans, and doing their usual sleuthing.  There’s no shortage of Easter eggs throughout, especially for a blog as devoted to the triangle era as this one!  Page 4 has Superman taking on the Mechanical Monsters, looking for all the world like the ones in the old Fleischer cartoons (even the font on the newspaper on the following page matches the one from the cartoon).
Tumblr media
Clark’s outfits and posture generally look more like Tyler Hoechlin than a traditional comic book version of the character.  Page 8 is my personal favourite, as Superman goes toe-to-toe with Superman IV’s Nuclear Man, a character I love, as I’ve shown my young children that movie more than any of the other, more sophisticated Reeve films.   That’s why I chose that page to be signed by none other than Tom Grummett himself at a recent signing.  I did ask if I could buy the page, but he's hanging onto it for now!
Tumblr media
Page 10 is a treasure trove of triangle era terrors, as we see not only Toyman, but also Hi-Tech, Killgrave, Barrage, Loophole, (another person fave) Sleez, and Supergirl TV series Vigilante Philip Karnowsky all in one shot.  Superman also later faces off with Lobo (making me wonder if it’s the Irish SyFy version of the character, who I’d love to see on a proper Arrowverse show—along with the excellent Brainiac from that series, while I’m dreaming).  Lobo in turn makes reference to a female “redhead” who has hired Lobo to track down Superman, which must be Maxima, given how often this issue’s writer talks about her on Twitter.
The story ends with a couple of great splash images, none better than Superman flying his bride to sunny Hawaii, in a spectacular image, which should have been this issue’s cover.
The next story, “Father’s Day” short though it is, is filled with still more great stuff.  The opening page grabbed some headlines, perceived by many as a rejection of the over-protective Kevin Costner version of Jonathan Kent, as the TV Jonathan praises his son for saving a young boy, symmetrically from a bus disaster.
Tumblr media
Grummett does a great job on the second page, with a glimpse at an unnamed Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman in their roles as Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein in All The President’s Men.  While I normally eschew real world politics in these pages, the leader of the free world being brought to justice through journalism is a fitting inspiration for this generation’s Superman, no matter which party to which he belongs.
We get another Easter egg as the helicopter Superman rescues (in a great image—dig the shadows falling from his arm, and bent leg!) recalls the red one from the Lois rescue/meet-cute in the first Reeve film.
Tumblr media
The final story in this issue is well-drawn throughout, as loathe as I am to see yet another evil Superman.  The story not only hints at the now-revealed Magog as the big crossover villain for this comic series, but also indicates that (spoilers from last season here…) John Henry’s red sun missile didn’t actually kill the Kal-El of his and Nat’s Earth. [Max: Is it me or would this story have rocked if they’d gotten Jerry Ordway to ink it? I’m a big fan of Norm Rapmund but I feel like Ordway’s shades could have added a lot to the atmosphere here.]
STRAY OBSERVATIONS:
It’s a cute callback to both Action Comics #1, and the first appearance of the Tyler Hoechlin Superman, that a green toy car is responsible for shutting down the press at the Daily Planet.
Tumblr media
There’s some equal opportunity sex appeal, as both Clark, then Lois, then Clark, then Lois again are featured in a steamy shower conversation to move the plot along.  I feel like a lesser story would only have Lois.
I wonder if Lobo’s comment about preferring Superman’s old outfit is a voodoo-doll like nod to fans like me, who miss the trunks on the otherwise perfect Hoechlin suit.
Superman & Lois is by far the best show on TV for my money, and my favourite part of the show is Lois’ journalism (indeed, the only thing lacking from the show is Clark-as-reporter, but you can’t have it all).  So naturally, I love Lois in an Alias-like wig to get the scoop on the mayor’s dalliance with another triangle-era figure, Ugly Mannheim.
Plastino’s restaurant is of course a reference to longtime Superman artist, Al Plastino, perhaps best known specifically for his work on Supergirl, the character that birthed this TV show!
Tumblr media
There’s an interesting symmetry with the Father’s Day story and the Controlled Burn story—the Clark Kent we know champions the meek reporters defending the world with holding the powerful to account, while the black-suited Superman of the alternate Earth still enjoys the support of the people, despite his growing authoritarianism, at least until he teams with his half-brother and destroys Metropolis.
The inverted newspapers with the cube “globe” are a wonderful and subtle nod to the Bizarro world storyline, even if “square” is misspelled on that second one.

As much as this Supernatural and Destiel stuff is a completely valid reason to shit on the CW, it's also drowning out the fact that they chose to cancel Black Lightning after 4 seasons and the actors had to learn the news from Twitter

Supercorp & Alternate Realities
So anyone who has seen some of the other DC Superhero shows knows that everyone in the arrowverse typically looks down on time travel. On The Flash they make a big deal out of time travel and the manipulation of timelines, they’re very against it. I don’t really recall how much Barry talked to Kara about it, aside from the time they ran around the Earth together, but I presume she knows how dangerous and risky it is.
Tumblr media
So while I really disliked the resolution of 5x13 being that things would’ve always gone bad with telling Lena the truth, I’m honestly glad they didn’t change the timeline. The Supergirl writers are known for being extremely inconsistent, but 5x13 (minus the ending) was the most consistent episode conclusion they’ve had in a while. It fits the arrowverse’s stance that time travel/timeline manipulation is bad and should be left solely to the Legends.
Tumblr media
Having said that, though, 5x13 (with that conclusion or not) proved Kara’s unwavering love for Lena. She knows, through Barry and the other heroes, how selfish and wrong messing with time is. But the thing is, it’s not shocking she still chose to go along with Mxy’s timelines anyways. Because she has always been selfish with Lena. Lena is the only one she couldn’t bare to put in danger. She’s the only one Kara refuses to fight (even when she’s momentarily evil in AU). She’s the only one she couldn’t stand to lose. Kara knew how selfish it would be to change things, she knew it would effect every single person around her. She normally cares about everything and everyone, but she was so desperate in that moment that she didn’t for once. And it just flashes me back to the scene of Clark telling her he couldnt have done what she did (yeeting M*n-El to space for the sake of the world), and her saying she couldn’t live with herself if she didn’t. However, I can count several times Kara was willing to sacrifice the world for Lena.
Tumblr media
And speaking of M*n-El, I think their choice to bring him back in 5x13 was a very interesting one. I think the moment where he gave Kara advice about Lena was sweet and all, but it just further proved Supercorp for me. Kara hadn’t seen him in god knows how long, and she really didn’t seem to care much. She got some quick advice and then barley looked at him again. I also find it interesting that Mxy was there to help repair her friendship with Lena, but didn’t bother to offer to bring M*n-El back. And Kara also never cared to ask (she’s always had a one track mind with Lena lol). But when they were in AU, she watched him and Lena both die. But even then she never ran to his side or paid him much attention, she sat there with Lena and begged to get out. So yeah, Supercorp endgame.

I was tagged by @chyrstis and @scungilliwoman thank you, lovelies!!! Honestly, I’m so damn behind on my tag games...I’m so sorry, I’m getting there.
Tagging: @strafethesesinners @water-writings @simonxriley @playstationmademe @witchofinterest @xbaebsae @dieguzguz @tommymillers @smithandrogers @shellibisshe @fadedjacket and whoever else would like to share! Sorry, my brain is fried and I can’t think of any other tags, but if you do it, please tag me! I would love to see your amazing work!!!
I’ve been doing a lot of Dragon Age, MCU, Arrowverse, and some other stuff (becuase I’m all over the place), so here yah go!
Dragon Age: Athera and Evune in the Exalted Plains before helping Solas’ spirit friend, after Haven fell.
“And you’re okay with all of this?” Evune asked as she stepped on a boulder, looking down below us as a few halla settled down for the night. “You seem a bit…off.”
Glancing over at her, the arms around my chest tighten as they remained crossed. “It just…feels a bit odd. Everything seems so...quiet and open here.” Evune threw back her head, laughing a bit.
“Welcome to the Plains, darling.” She smirked a bit as the shadows of the fire from the camp behind us flickered across her face. It made her dark eyes look like the night sky, almost terrifying yet beautiful. It’s almost odd to me how the eyes show the kind of person you were on the inside, because I knew it was a pure representation of who she was. Even if she didn’t want to admit it. “You didn’t answer my question.”
“I…I don’t know what you want me to say.” I murmured, glancing behind me at the others. Blackwall carving something with his knife as Varric lounged next to the fire, watching it as he lowly spoke of stories of his travels. Solas, only a little further from the fire than Blackwall, sat quietly, stoically as he listened, whether to Varric or us, I wasn’t sure. “Being the First is…” I glanced back down below us, the moon full and lighting the plains in front of us as the creek ran not far from our camp. “I didn’t think I’d have to do it; I didn’t think for a moment that Isha would…”
“Die?” Evune offered as she watched me carefully, her sharp eyes taking in everything and reminding me of the hunter she became once she joined our clan. Andruil’s vallaslin was more than fitting for her, even as a rogue. It was moments like this that made me more grateful to have my cousin by my side.
“I went to the Conclave because I needed time to think, I…I didn’t want the responsibility that came with being a First. I don’t know if I want to be Keeper when Deshanna steps down.”
If I was expecting a shocked reaction from her, I would have been disappointed. It was as if I had just told her the sky was blue, the only movement from her was the slight arch in her brow as I glanced over her. “I hope you’re not expecting me to overly surprised by this, Athera. You jumped at the opportunity when everyone was ready to let me scout it out.”
“And ended up with more responsibility than before.” I laughed humorlessly. “Just think Evune, if Isha hadn’t died, if I hadn’t jumped at the opportunity to run from the weight of being the First, you could be Inquisitor right now.”
“In what world would that be reassuring, Little Fawn? Me and Fen’an leading this little pack of warriors? You and I both know that the right person was there for that. Don’t haunt yourself with those kinds of thoughts, you’re the leader because you’re meant to be.”
MCU: Steve coming back in Infinity War
“Ross.” Rhodes sighed. “We gotta take this. Rayna, I’m sorry—”
“Do it.” She replied as she stood straight, her head high. “Let us see what he has to say to this now that Tony is missing.”
The malice in her voice made Rhodes and I exchange a look before he turned to the screen and accepted the call. The blue hologram of Secretary of State and the conference room he was in filled the space as Bruce went to the next room, an old flip phone turning in his hands. Rhodey crossed his arms as he took him in, Rayna leaning against the bench—her magic making a coffee mug disappear and reappear. “Mr. Secretary, how can we help you?”
“Well, Colonel, as you can tell, we have a problem.” He replied, barely looking up at us him and his men shuffled through his papers. “Mr. Stark is gone, we need to assemble who we have left.”
“To fight a spaceship that’s no longer hovering over New York City?” Rayna asked and I threw her a look as he sighed.
“To fight off whatever threat we have.” Ross snapped. “What information do we have?”
“His name is Thanos.” Rhodes replied. “He’s…looking for some—he’s looking to destroy and take out half the universe.” Ross took a moment to glance at us, and I swallowed as his eyes flitted to me momentarily.
“And how do we know this?”
We both hesitated before I decided to come clean. “Dr. Banner has…returned. He was on the ship when Thanos attacked Thor…he’s gone.” Another sigh came from him as he handed something to one of his men, a few exchanging glances as Ross spoke.
“So Dr. Banner has conveniently returned with news and you’re telling me we lost the Asgardian?”
“That Asgardian risked his life to try and save us.” Rayna snapped as she shoved off the workbench, making some tools fall and clatter on the floor. “We would do well to take heed of the warning.”
They glared at each other as the tension became worse and I moved, grabbing her arm. “Rayna…”
“Stark is missing, Secretary. I suggest you begin being more cordial to the allies you do have left.” She replied, venom dripping from her words as she walked away, joining Banner in the next room. I threw Rhodes a look before following suit, staying close to them as they stood off to the side, Banner now rubbing his face a bit as he paced slowly.
Seemingly unaffected, Ross continued. “Still no word from Vision?”
Peaky Blinders: Dahlia finding out Alfie is alive
“There are binoculars on the table there, Mr. Shelby. He insists you admire the view. He will be with you shortly.”
I say nothing, don’t dare turn away from the sea as the breeze hits my face. He joins me with binoculars in his hand as the sound of her gathering a tray can be heard. If I had to guess, I would say perhaps tea. How wonderful would it be, to just sit here on a beautiful day and a cup of tea, reading and watching. I allow myself to wonder what it would be like to leave everything behind for this. I hadn’t had peace in so long, I feared I would never know it again.
“It’s been so long since I’ve travelled.” I say, breaking the silence as Tommy holds the binoculars up to his eyes. “So bloody long. The horrid woman would constantly make us travel; tutors changed frequently. Honestly, Tommy, it’s a wonder I had learned anything at all.” I scoffed.
“Mmm. Woes of the upper class.” He mutters back.
“Yes, I s’pose that’s one way to say it.” I sigh before looking over at him. “But you always say we’re better than them, Tommy. You said it about the Russians, even with Luca…you said it, and you say it now with the politicians. Thomas…our values as a family…we’re above this. We don’t believe in this. Please. I need to know if this man can help us.”
Tommy drops his hand, turning and looking at me when the sound of footsteps are heard. “Business first, Dahlia. Remember, business first.”
I go to retort, to ask him again, but I don’t get the chance.
“You out there, Tommy!” A male voice called, and I felt it then, a chill run through me that had little to do with the breeze. My heart squeezed as I stared at Tommy.
“Yeah. I’m here.”
“Tommy—” I breathed out.
“I was just having some oil rubbed into the bits that really hurt, mate. What do you think of that view, eh?”
I knew that voice. I knew that fucking voice. Tears welled and I fought like I never had before, refusing to cry. Tommy won’t look at me as he steps forward, and I am desperate enough to even contemplate clutching onto his sleeve, but don’t act on it.
“It’s Margate. What can you do?” Tommy replied as the placed the binoculars on the lounge. I watch as the man cuts the music I had barely noticed and turns.
Far Cry 5: Wren’s Cleansing and spitting water in John’s face
“This one?” a male voice echoed as I fought against heavy eyelids to see a blurred night sky. I saw a man in the corner of my eye with a wool sweater and messy hair, pointing to something on the ground.
“No. This one.” Another male voiced, his voice deep and well-spoken. Had it been any other situation, I would dare say it was soothing.
The scruffy man found his way to me, leaning over as he studied me with confusion. “Doesn’t seem very worthy.”
“It is not for us to judge.” The other man came into view, and he was much more put together than his companion. His dark hair was neat, and beard trimmed. He donned a trench coat, giving him an air of importance. “Deliver her unto the waters. The Cleansing begins tonight.” The grungy man reached for me just as I faded back to blackness.
“The water must wash away our past.” A voice echoed and I stirred. He was muffled and I couldn’t place the odd sensation as I began to become aware. It was as if my head was buried beneath sand. My body began to protest, my chest burning, and it was only then that I had realized I wasn’t breathing at all. I was fully awake now and staring at the face of one of the men I had seen earlier, holding me down beneath the water. “We must expose our sins. We must atone…” The man pulled me forward through the surface of the water. I took a quick breath, my gasp only audible between me and my new friend. I finally was able to take everything in. It was night, obviously, and we were on the bank of the river. My head was still screwy from the bliss in my system, but I could make out the lace in the trees and the van parked underneath. But it was the man standing before us that had my attention. John Seed. I recognized him from the intel Dutch had on him at the bunker and the broadcast. Not to mention the pictures and billboards he had all over the place. His trench coat was gone, showing the blue button up shirt and black waistcoat he wore underneath. The others were being walked to him as he read from a white book, his thumb rubbing a symbol on their foreheads. “For only then may we stand in the light of God and walk through his Gate unto Eden.” He said as he marked the last person, before he turned to me and closed his book as I was escorted to him.
“Not this one.” He said as he studied me for only a second, but it felt like forever. His eyes drew me in and I almost squirmed under his scrutinizing gaze. It pinned me to my spot in the river as he handed his book off to my Baptist Buddy. “This one’s not clean.” His was low, mesmerizing. It was honey, just enough of a hint of danger to pull you in, making what he did catch me off guard completely. His hands were on the base of my neck, his thumbs only applying a slight pressure to my throat, almost teasingly. He put more pressure into his palms against my collarbone, forcing me underwater once more. My gasp of shock forcing water in my mouth this time. I thrashed against his hands, but it was no use. He was immovable, a marble statue against my paper-thin attempts against him. My hands tried to pull at the rolled-up sleeves in panic, and he finally pulled me up.
“Ahhhhh.”  He sighed at first, but then my rage overcame me. Out of spite, and for the actual need to dispose of it, I spit the water that had flooded into my mouth in his face. There was a moment of dead silence as his men stood in shock and fear, waiting to see what their Baptist would do. John closed his eyes for a second as I could see the rage cross his features. But as soon as it came, it was gone. His eyes opened again with a mix of malice and taunting, and tsked at me with smirk as he shook his head. “Shhhh.” I clawed at his arms as he went to push me down again, until a voice made him stop dead in his tracks.

While The CW's Arrowverse has become a juggernaut in the comic book TV landscape over the past several years, even a massive franchise is not immune to change. Recently, Arrow, the series that started it all, came to an end after its eighth season, and now, it was announced that Supergirl would be coming to an end. However, while Arrow certainly ran its course, Supergirl hasn't, and this isn't the right time to say goodbye.
Debuting on The CW in 2012, Arrow focused on Oliver Queen, a billionaire playboy who came home after five years after he was thought to be dead at sea. However, his time away was anything but normal as he was stranded on a deserted island where ended up going on a series of adventures that turned him into one of the world's most skilled fighters. Oliver started off his journey as a murderous vigilante but eventually grew into becoming the hero known as the Green Arrow.
The first direct spinoff of Arrow was The Flash, which is heading into its seventh season. Other shows like Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning and Batwoman all followed in the years after that, all of which are still in production. That being said, Batwoman recently went through a major casting change after Season 1 when Ruby Rose decided to step away from the series.
Regardless, the Arrowverse quickly grew from one series about an archer to being a whole interconnected multiverse of shows. This was made all that more apparent in the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover where all of the different realities the series operated in were merged into one. What the creative team did was make it so the powers that be no longer need to dream up insane reasons for Black Lightning to help out the Flash if the moment calls for it. This also means that the main Earth now has a Superman in it, meaning there's a new top dog hero around.
With the Man of Steel now in the fold, the next addition to the Arrowverse will be Superman & Lois, a direct spinoff of Supergirl using the actors established in that show. While the series is currently set to debut in January 2021, it won't get to be alongside its sister show for long as The CW recently announced that Supergirl would be coming to an end after Season 6.
Supergirl has always been a solid show that has been beset by factors beyond its control. The show's first season aired on CBS, but then it moved to The CW starting with Season 2, and a massive rating decline followed. Ratings took another significant hit when the show moved from Mondays to Sundays in Season 4, but despite those significant changes, it still managed to build a loyal fanbase that kept the series on the air. Now, with the end of the multiverse, there was now huge potential for weekly crossovers between Supergirl and the rest of her superhero cohorts -- one of the best episodes of the series came when the Flash accidentally jumped realities and met Kara Danvers for the first time. These types of crossovers are fuel for superhero world-building, but Supergirl is being taken out of the game just as things are starting to get interesting.
It's especially unfortunate as being separate from the rest of the Arrowverse has had as great an impact on the ratings for Supergirl as scheduling choices and network jumps plagued the series. Being more directly connected to the rest of the series was exactly what the show needed to finally get its footing.
Depending on how the series comes to an end, this will hopefully not be the last fans will see of characters like Supergirl and Martian Manhunter. Hopefully, they can continue to appear not only on Superman & Lois but the rest of the Arrowverse series. Regardless, it won't be the same as them having their own shows and stories from week to week. Once again, Supergirl got hit by a healthy dose of bad timing, something the series has dealt with throughout its entire run.

Opinion: DC and Marvel’s Multiverses Are Crucial To The Future of Superhero Film
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright, buckle up kids, this is going to be a long one. Get some soda and some popcorn, or some green tea and avocado toast.
Back in the long-distant year of 1989, a little film called Batman released into theaters and became the film of the Summer. Directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson as Batman and the Joker respectively, it was a cinematic triumph that heralded a new wave of superhero films taking their source material seriously. Followed up in 1992 by Batman Returns, a sequel which increased the fantastic elements but was criticized for its darker tones, Batman’s role in movies was cemented in place by continued success. Of course, Keaton and Burton would leave to be replaced by Val Kilmer as Batman with Joel Schumacher directing for 1995′s Batman Forever, with George Clooney stepping into the cape and cowl for 1997′s Batman and Robin, a wild disaster of a film which nearly destroyed Batman’s chances in movies. But then, in 2005, Christopher Nolan brought a gritty realism to the caped crusader in Batman Begins, and continued this successful experiment with 2008′s Best Film Of The Year, The Dark Knight, and 2012′s The Dark Knight Rises (which was....fine). By this time the DCEU was beginning to get started, so a new Batman was cast for Zack Synder’s 2016 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and this role went to Ben Affleck. He reprised the role in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and Joss Whedon’s Justice League, but bowed out of the opportunity to write and direct his own solo Bat-flick. So director Matt Reeves was tapped to direct a new Batman film starring a controversial choice of Robert Pattinson as Batman. With all of this, the question of the past 30-odd years is: which is your favorite Batman? Which one was the best? And how do these films fit into an increasingly convoluted canon in which a film series is rebooted every ten years or so?
What if the answer is: they’re all great and they all fit into canon?
Now, before we think too hard about that, let’s take a look at Spider-Man’s cinematic installments, which is almost more convoluted and in a more compressed amount of time. Beginning with 2002′s Spider-Man directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguire, the amazing wall-crawler enjoyed a fantastic amount of success on the big screen, followed up by one of the best superhero films of all time, 2004′s Spider-Man 2. But Spider-Man 3 in 2007 took all of that goodwill and smashed it into the ground with a failure almost as bad as Batman and Robin a decade earlier. Plans for a Spider-Man 4 were scrapped, and eventually in 2012 director Mark Webb and star Andrew Garfield would bring a brand new Spidey to life with The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014. Both films were lively and energetic, but criticized for trying to stuff too much into their films -- especially the second one. Sony Pictures was attempting to ramp up a cinematic universe much like Marvel Films was doing at the time, but it was too much too fast. 2017 brought another reboot of the moviefilm version of Spidey, this time directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland, with Spider-Man: Homecoming, this time under Marvel Film’s banner (thanks to backdoor dealing), and another cinematic triumph in 2019′s Spider-Man: Far From Home. But, unlike Batman, Spider-Man’s dealings behind the scenes are nearly as convoluted as his series. Sony Pictures owned the rights to make Spider-Man flicks for years, until Marvel managed to make a ludicrous offer after Amazing 2 failed to catch on the way producers hoped. So Spidey came to the MCU under a joint production, which is how we got Homecoming and Far From Home, but also maintained a different universe with the Amazing films, and then 2018′s Venom, and a little animated motion picture also in 2018 by the name of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.
Class, this is where I would like to direct your attention to the origin of the extraordinary events we are discussing today. Or is it the origin?
Into The Spider-Verse successfully proved that not only is the idea of multiple universes all connecting on screen a good idea, it’s an Oscar winning idea. Spider-Verse is hands down the best animated superhero film ever, and one of the best superhero films period. But here we must take note of certain ideas. The film provided much setup for a world where young Miles Morales begins to emerge with spider powers, but then Spider-Man is killed right in front of him before he can learn how to use them. Enter a Spider-Man from a slightly different parallel dimension, who not only turns Miles around, but find himself inspired to realign his own life. Spider-people abound through the film, all of them having equal weight and the possibility of spawning their own franchise without having to worry about impacting the canon of other universes. This is something comic books have done for literal decades, but Spider-Verse did it with such care and devotion that it won Best Animated Picture and became a mainstream smash hit. Marvel and Sony both sit up at attention; could this work with the major mainstream films they’ve been producing? So the experiment begins: we have a teaser trailer for Morbius, based on a vampiric Spider-Man villain, which features a cameo from the Vulture character first seen in Homecoming. And after dropping hints that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man could cross over with Tom Hardy’s Venom, Jamie Foxx recently posted about being cast as Electro -- a role he played in Amazing Spider-Man 2 -- for the third Tom Holland Spidey flick. Pictures went up on his Instragram seeming to confirm that not only was this the same Electro, but that all three previous Spider-Men -- Maguire, Garfield, and Holland -- would team up for the film. Multiple universes collide, a live action Spider-Verse, where everyone is crossing over with each other. Now, this lines up perfectly with Marvel’s MCU plans, as Doctor Strange has established in his film that multiple universes exist, and his announced sequel is even titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It’s here. It’s happening. Every Spider-Man film is canon, they’ve all happened, and we don’t need to worry about which of them make sense or belong. They all make sense.
But just before this announcement, a month or so ago DC let slip that their plans for an upcoming Flash movie are taking cues from the Flashpoint comic books, in which Barry Allen goes back in time and accidentally creates a brand new timeline that he has to correct. Michael Keaton has even been cast as Bruce Wayne, the same Bruce Wayne that he played 30-odd years ago, a casting choice many fans have been clamoring for for years. On top of that, once word was put out that Keaton’s role would be similar to Samuel L. Jackson’s role as Nick Fury in the MCU, Ben Affleck was reported to be joining the picture as Batman also, a team-up no one saw coming. Even Christian Bale is being courted to join the universe-spanning flick, but reportedly only if director Christopher Nolan gives his blessing. Multiple Batmen teaming up together in a Flash movie to combat crime? Of course I’ve already bought tickets. Batman is the biggest box-office draw outside of The Avengers. And this concept opens up plenty of opportunities for DC, who’ve done Elseworlds stories in the comic for years. Joker with Joaquin Phoenix proved that DC films not directly tied to the DCEU can and will do well on their own; The Batman with Pattinson will no doubt further confirm that. But now Batman Returns is once again a viable film mixed into a comic book cocktail of wonder and excitement? And what’s wonderful is that this isn’t DC’s first big attempt at this. Slowly and surely, The CW’s Arrowverse TV shows -- Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow -- have been doing multiverse crossovers for years, building up to 2019′s mega-event Crisis on Infinite Earths, which saw Brandon Routh reprise his role as Superman from 2006′s Superman Returns, which itself is a sequel to Christopher Reeve’s Superman and Superman II. And for one wonderful scene, TV’s Flash, Grant Gustin, got to interact with the DCEU’s Flash, Ezra Miller, confirming that these TV and film universes are indeed one big cocktail of parallel lives and dimensions that all interconnect while still being separate. Hell, we even saw Burt Ward, Robin from the 1966 Batman show, alive and well an in his own little world. Batman ‘66 is part of the wider DC Multiverse! How crazy is that? And we even got a small tease that Batman ‘89 is part of all of this as well, when we got to see reporter Alexander Knox look up to the Batsignal in the sky as Danny Elfman’s iconic score played. In one fell swoop, in as few as a casual couple of cameos, DC made all of their live-action properties canon in the multiverse, meaning no matter which version you like the best, they all work together and work from a franchising and audience standpoint. The 1978 Superman and the 1989 Batman both existed in worlds that ran sidecar to 2019′s Joker and 2011′s Green Lantern. It’s wild, unprecedented in cinematic history, and wonderful for fans of all ages.
Why is this the future of superhero flicks, though? It ought to be simple: no matter what movies come out, no matter how wild or crazy or outside “canon” they seem to be, they all can work and they all can coexist without having to confuse fans. Many people were feeling the reboot fatigue as early as 2012′s Amazing Spider-Man, and while there was a huge tone shift between Batman Returns and Batman Forever, the Bat-films were considered all part of the same line until Batman Begins started all the way over. Now we have Batman 89 and Returns in one world, Forever and Batman and Robin in another (which was already a fan theory, mind you). Sequels that don’t line up with their predecessors can just be shunted into a hidden multiverse timeline and left alone without the convoluted explanation of having to “ignore” certain sequels. Superman III & IV were ignored when Superman Returns chose to connect only to the first and second films, but now we can say that they definitely happened....just somewhere else. There is now a freedom of ideas and creation that can once again occur when making big-budget films based on superheroes. No longer do creative minds need to be restrained to the canon and timeline and overarching plots defined by studios years in advance; “creative differences” don’t need to drive frustrated directors away from characters or stories they truly love. Possibly -- just possibly -- good ideas can become the gold standard once again for comic book films, not just ten-year plans for how to get Captain America from scrawny Marine to Mjolnir-wielding badass. Remember when filmmakers decided to make Joker the same person who killed Bruce Wayne’s parents? Or when they decided to give Spider-Man the ability to shoot webs from his body instead of technology? That certainly wouldn’t fly these days; studio mandates would require adherence to previously established guidelines, or at least what has been seen in the comic. What if now we could get a three-episode limited series on HBO Max of Gotham By Gaslight? Or a big-budget adaptation of Marvel’s 1602? Simply trying to wedge old comic book storylines into existing Cinematic Universes no longer need be a thing! We could get some of the wildest interpretations of superheroes this side of Superman: Red Son. At least, that’s the hope, anyway.
When comic books can step away from canon for just a few minutes, worlds open up and expand. An entire multiverse of ideas can become a feast of entertainment for many. And when there’s already so many beautiful, well-told stories set in alternate universes as comic book precedent, so too can there be beautiful, well-told stories set in alternate universes for film. And the best part? Now they all matter. And I think that’s the future.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I HAD to use this gif. PLEASE tell me some of you get it!)
*******
    “Hey, Y/n.”
It was the middle of a Saturday, and John Constantine knocked on your door. Ten others were with him.
Sighing, you looked him up and down. You stuck out your hand.
He placed a pack of cigarettes there.
    “And your spare.”
He placed another pack in your free hand.
Both packs burned to nothing. “And your spare’s spare,” you ordered.
He blanched, “How did you know? I only started carrying this around last week!”
Responding with no actual words, you curled your fingers in a ‘give it to me’ motion.
Constantine begrudgingly handed it over, and it disappeared like the other two packs. “Legends, meet Y/n L/n. A sorcerer friend of mine. Y/n, meet Sara Lance, Ava Sharpe, Nate Heywood, Ray Palmer, Gary Green, Nora Darhk, Mick Rory, Zari Tomaz, Mona Wu, and Charlie.”
As each was named, they waved or nodded to confirm who they were. It was pretty awkward.
The last introduced explained, “I don’t exactly have a last name.”
For a few moments, you looked everyone over. “Okay. Come on in. You guys are safe here. I assume you need somewhere to stay?”
    John assured, “Just for tonight.”
Reaching up to stroke the side of his face with your thumb, you smiled for the first time he’d seen you that day. “John, you are always welcome here. You and your friends can stay for as long as you need.”
John Constantine returned your smile. The sincere look on him was rare, but you enjoyed it nonetheless.
From a few feet away, Sara cleared her throat.
You glanced at the ground to try and hide your blush. You told the Legends that they could have a seat in the living room. “There’s a bathroom upstairs and in the basement. Towels are in there for you. I’ll set up beds for you all and leave you clothes.” You then went on to give rooms to everybody.
Mona and Charlie would take the couches in the living room. You would set up beds for Mick and Gary in your finished basement. You had two spare bedrooms with one queen-sized bed in each. Sara and Ava would take one, and Ray and Nora would sleep in the other. Nate and Zari would have to do with a twin sized cot that you would set up in a semi-sizable hall closet you had on the second floor.
“John, I hope you would still like to share a bed with me,” you joked.
He smirked, “Of course I would, love. It’s been too long. I need a fix.”
Nate cut off your giggling by trying to ask, “Um, how did you know--”
“About the couples among us?” you finished for him. “I’m a bit of a clairvoyant as well.” There was a glimmer of feigned bragging in your tone. “I’ll go make a little lunch. You guys go get yourselves cleaned up and situated. There’s water in the fridge.” With that, you excused yourself to the kitchen.
Once some sandwiches were made and some fruit was cut up, you went back to the living room. You found that Mick and Zari had just gotten out of the shower; and Nora, Sara, and Ava were the only ones missing from the living room. You chuckled to yourself. You hoped to get as close to someone as Ava and Sara were to each other. Maybe you could be that close with a certain wise-cracking demonologist one day, you thought to yourself.
“You know, you could start a fire if you want,” you offered to Mick, who was crouching in front of, and staring intently at your fireplace.
Everyone’s eyes snapped toward you as if you had suggested something crazy. You felt you understood why they all thought it was an insane suggestion.
Setting the food on your coffee table, you walked closer to Mick to study him.
“Hmm...Yeah, I trust you. Just don’t let the fire too big, okay?”
Mick looked up at you from where he was on the floor. You thought you caught a smile. “Thanks,” he curtly noted.
“No problem. And I said not too big. Pretty big is fine with me,” you winked.
You earned a smile and a chuckle then.
When you turned around, Sara, Nora, and Ava were in the living room, and the whole team staring at you were in complete awe.
You chuckled and headed back into the kitchen. “I’m going to start on dinner.”
“Already? You just finished lunch,” Ray protested.
Shrugging, you justified, “I like making food for my guests.”
“Holy crap!” exclaimed Mona with two sandwiches stuffed in her mouth, “Make as much food as you want. This is delicious.”
“Thank you,” you smiled, then continued your trek to the kitchen.
However, you were interrupted again when Constantine gently took your hand in his and encouraged, “Don’t start dinner yet. Stay here...I’d like you to properly meet my team.”
“Your team,” you jeered. “Yes, please. I would love to know about ‘your team.’” You took a seat on your couch next to Charlie.
John sat on the other side of you. “Stop being smart.” He feigned annoyance.
The following three hours were spent by the Legends taking turns to shower, along with everyone swapping stories of past adventures; including yourself.
“No, I’m serious!” you were laughing so hard that you could barely talk, let alone breathe, “I turned around, and Tyler was completely naked! For some reason, he thought it would help with the ritual. I have no idea why...even to this day.”
    Your stories sometimes included Constantine.
“And we just ran!” you practically squealed because you were laughing so hard.
John was losing his cool as well. “Looking back on it, running wasn’t exactly a stroke of genius. After all, he was a...what’d ya call it again?”
“Speedster,” Gary named for you and John. The time agent had the biggest grin on his face.
Constantine dismissed, “Yeah, speedster. Whatever,” and tried to continue on with the story.
Rolling your eyes, you playfully hit John on the shoulder to scold him for his behavior. You then thanked Gary.
Eventually, you pulled yourself out of the living room to go make dinner. Everyone was eating again by 6pm.
After the meal, you all relaxed and talked more in the living room. Mick accidentally almost burned the house down, but you found the whole incident funny as you put out the growing fire with your powers.
The team retired to their makeshift bedrooms.
“Do you sleep with the TV on?” Charlie asked Mona.
The shorter woman thought for a moment. “Not usually, but the sound is fine with me.”
“Thanks,” Charlie smiled. She turned on the television, then flopped down onto her respective couch. “So, Mona. Mona Wu. We’re kind of the same.”
Mona took a seat on her own sofa, “We are?”
Charlie nodded, “I think we are. I mean, sure, I was trapped in something close to Hell for what felt like 500 years, and you’re a food delivery person turned werewolf, but I personally think we got a good amount in common with each other.”
    “...Because we both shift?”
    “Yep,” Charlie popped the ‘p.’
Mona thought for a moment again. “I mean, it feels pretty cool to be another thing.”
“Doesn’t it?” Charlie bubbled up, “It feels like you’re the best master of disguise in the history of anything, right? Like you’re a completely different being?”
The other living room resident smiled, “Yeah. Yeah, I guess so.”
“See?” Charlie gestured between the two of them. “Not so different at all.”
The basement had a more uncomfortable atmosphere.
“Which cot do you want?” Gary asked fearfully.
Mick didn’t say a word. He just laid down on the cot furthest from the stairs facing away from Gary.
“Okay, sure. I’ll just take one.” Gary awkwardly sat down on the remaining cot. “...Constantine’s friend sure is kind, letting us stay in their home, giving us food, a place to sleep--”
“Shut up,” grumbled Mick into the then darkness.
Gary immediately apologized, then settled in for a long, sleepless night. Gary wasn’t sleepless because he was uncomfortable, no. Well, at least he wasn’t physically uncomfortable. Gary couldn’t help but feel too unsafe to be able to sleep alone in a basement with that particular pyromaniac.
Meanwhile, on your second floor, Nora and Ray were getting ready for bed in one for your spare bedrooms.
“You know,” Nora started, “I’d like living in a house like this.”
Ray smiled to himself. “You would?”
“Yeah,” confirmed the sorceress, “It’s a nice, quiet neighborhood.”
The Atom laughed, “When have you known our lives to be ‘quiet?’”
“Well, maybe we should lead quiet lives...Eventually.”
Ray paused, and carefully eyed his girlfriend, searching for any doubt. He didn’t fine any, and smiled, “Maybe.”
A few doors down, Zari and Nate were struggling.
“Come on, Nate. Move over,” Zari urged.
Heywood reasoned, “If I move over anymore, I’ll fall off.”
Zari sighed, “This clearly isn’t working. Is there anyway you can go down to the basement?”
“With Gary and Mick? No way. I do not want to be down there with them and only them.”
Tomaz groaned, “Well, I can’t go to the living room! I just got some water from the kitchen, and I heard Mona and Charlie bonding over their shifting abilities. It was getting weird...Plus,” she sighed again, “I don’t want to sleep away from you. That’d suck.”
Upon hearing Zari’s confession, Nate felt a soft smile appear on his lips. “Come here,” he lightly directed. He rearranged the two of them.
“What? Nate, no I--Oh.” Zari was suddenly laying on top of him.
Nate gently inquired, “Is this okay?”
“Yeah. Yeah...I like it,” she cuddled closer to his chest so she could hear his heartbeat. “I like it a lot.”
Further down the hallway, Sara and Ava were also in bed together.
As usual, Ava was stressing about something.
“Babe, everything will be fine. The Time Bureau can survive without you for a day or two,” Sara assured her partner.
Ava bit her lip. “I know, but I won’t be able to make contact until noon tomorrow. What if they need me?”
Sara brushed some hair out of Ava’s face. “There are protocols in place to keep everything from imploding until you get back. Honey, everything is okay.”
“Everything is okay,” Ava repeated with a deep breath, starting to believe Sara’s words.
Captain Lance was relieved. “Thank you for calming down...Now, come here and give Mama some sugar.”
“Give Mama some sugar?” Ava repeated with a growing smirk.
    Sara smugly nodded.
Ava laughed. “Oh, I’ll give Mama some sugar, alright.” She then leaned down to kiss her girlfriend.
“Man, they really go at it, don’t they?” you commented to John in the next room.
He chuckled, “When Miss Sharpe stays over on the Wave Rider, anyone within the distance of three rooms has to wear ear plugs.”
You laughed as well. “Don’t you guys tell them how loud they are?”
“We usually just let let them enjoy their happiness. There isn’t much of that these days.”
“Especially since you started time-travelling,” you admitted bashfully.
    Regretfully, he started your name.
“I understand,” you interrupted him before he could continued, “You’re helping people. A lot of people. The whole world in fact. But I barely got to see you when you followed this timeline. And now...”
John tried to speak again. He seemed truly sorry.
You continued, “Look, I know we weren’t anything official. But what can I say, John? I lov--” you didn’t get to finish.
    Constantine had kissed you.
He caught your lips simply at first, then circled his arms around you to cradle your lower back and the back of your neck.
You hadn’t felt that safe in months. You clutched on to the lapels of his trench coat for dear life.
John moved closer, then stopped the kiss to rest his forehead on yours. “I love you, too.”
Automatically, your eyes flashed up to meet his. Silently asking if he was sure, you touched the side of his face.
    He just nodded.
Unable to contain your joy, you kissed him again, and again, and again, and countless more into the night.
For breakfast the next morning, you made your favorite: pancakes and bacon. It took a couple hours because you loved to make your pancakes from scratch, and because the delicious smell was wafting around for a while, the Legends all eventually made their way downstairs to join you.
“Mornin’ love,” John greeted you with a kiss on the cheek when he came up behind you and placed his hands on your sides.
You smiled down at your task, “Careful, Constantine. You’re going domestic on me.”
    “Only for you, sweetheart.”
Just like the night before, everyone complimented your cooking. You really wished you could have the Legends as guests for at least a few more days.
But you also understood that they couldn’t stay.
A little before lunchtime, Ava finally got in contact with the Time Bureau. She and Sara went to make a call to them.
Soon, the couple returned to the living room. They informed everyone that it was time for the team to leave.
“No!” protested Mona, “I love it here. Y/n takes such good care of us. Let’s just stay here forever.” She curled up near the fire that Mick had built in your fireplace.
Ava replied, “Sara and I like Y/n, too. So, that’s why Sara has a proposition for them.”
“Y/n L/n,” Sara smiled and stepped forward. “Would you like to become a Legend?”
The question took you by surprise. “I...what? So, like, travel full time with you guys?”
“And help us defeat weekly evils,” Zari cut in.
Charlie nodded, “But, yeah. That’s the gist of it.”
Almost the whole room sounded with words of encouragement for you.
Then, John stood up. “Y/n? May I speak with you in the kitchen?”
Of course, you agreed. “What is it?” You asked when you and John were by the stove.
“I don’t want you joining the team,” he heavy-heartedly admitted.
Right off the bat, you knew why. “John,” you had him make eye contact with you. “You know me. I’ve been literally been to hell and back. You know I can take care of myself.”
He worried, “What if you get hurt? I can’t...I can’t lose you.”
“Don’t you see, John? You going away like this...It could be months, even years until we see each other again. If I go with you, so many morning could be like this one. You and I can finally be together for real...Please. I love you, John Constantine.”
Before he said anything, John brought you in for another kiss. He held you close. “...You have to promise to make us breakfast like this every morning,” he joked.
Finally.
“Oh, shut up before I throw out that pack of cigs you bought last night,” you teased.
Shock covered his features. “It was 3 in the morning. I thought you were asleep!”
“Uh, can we come in yet?” Ray poked his head into the kitchen. “We’d kinda like to welcome the newest member of our little family.”
The next thing you knew you were being nearly smothered in the largest group hug you’d ever been a part of.
Your life with the Legends was amazing to say the least. With your sorcery and clairvoyance, you came to be a very crucial member of the team. None of the Legends wanted it any other way.
As for John, you married that man a couple years into your time-travelling adventures. And if you thought it was hard for Constantine to be away from you before, you should’ve just waited until he became your husband.

Arrowverse Science Fair AU
~2004 National Highschool (Gr. 8-12) Science Fair
Projects:
Felicity Smoak (Gr. 9) – Computer software to detect card counters. She may or may not have hacked into online card games to test it (this wasn’t included in/on her project.)
Cisco Ramon (Gr. 8 or 9) – Piano playing robot. He thought it played better than Dante. His parents didn’t agree.
Caitlin Snow (Gr. 9) – Analysis of physiological response to various stimuli. She wanted to find stimuli that would help kids cope with traumatic experiences (say crashing their bike or losing their father.) If she was able to find something that made her mom show some/any emotion that would be a bonus.
Barry Allen (Gr. 9) – Growing crystals (lots of different and cool ones). His project started out as an attempt to make something special for Iris for her birthday but turned into an elaborate project. It ended up being a good choice because 1) it reminded Barry of his parents (the first science experiment they did together was grow Borax crystals on pipecleaner and 2) it followed Joe’s ‘your science fair project must make, not destroy things’ rule instated after Barry’s Gr. 6 project.
Alex (Gr. 9) and Kara (Gr. 8) Danvers – Birds in my Backyard. Eliza had insisted on Alex getting Kara involved in her science fair project this year. Alex was excited to show Kara the science fair experience she enjoyed but wanted to pick a topic she knew more about that Kara (her knowledge of math and science was intimidating enough without the superpowers). Seeing Kara’s interest in birds they decided to study birds in their backyard. With Alex’s design and Kara’s powers they built tall post’s and attached bird houses and feeders with differing properties. They then monitored which kinds of birds built nests and ate from where (with some help from Kara’s flight and X-ray vision). Alex also picked 5 nests from different species to chronicle the embryo and chick development. Kara enjoyed doing the project and learning about birds from Alex. The actual science fairs, not so much but those were Alex’s favourite part. Note: Streaky was locked in the house for the duration of the project so he wouldn’t eat any of the birds.
Winn Schott (Gr. 11) – Pop-up room/ room in a suitcase. Being in the foster system for the last couple years inspired Winn to design a room that collapsed to the size of a suitcase for easy transport but could expand in less than a minute into a nice-sized, fully-furnished, sound-proof room, so no matter how many times a foster kid was moved around they always had their own space and stuff. Also good for camping, travel and special short-term events (like waiting in line at conventions).
Lena Luthor (Gr. 5) – Oxygen absorbing/releasing crystal that could allow breathing underwater. After her Mum drown when Lena was four, she was determined to develop a simple way for people to breath under water. She was able to do just that by synthesizing a substance that absorbed and stored large amounts of oxygen then released it slowly (so if someone held in in their mouth, they could breathe underwater). She was happy and excited that her mom and older brother were interested in her project but a little frustrated and concerned that they were so focused on its ability to absorb all the oxygen from a room (in a big enough amount). Although she supposed it could be used in that capacity to control/extinguish fires. Note: although in elementary school, Lena got to compete against the high schoolers since her project was so advanced for her age.
Sara Lance (Gr. 11) – The Biomechanics of Dance and Martial Arts. As punishment for skipping classes, then sassing her teacher and principal when they tried to discipline her for skipping classes, Sara had to complete a science fair project. To make the best of it Sara chose something that interested her. In hindsight she wished she hadn’t. Her project was so good she was chosen to represent her school at the state and national science fair.
Ronnie Raymond (Gr. 9-12?)- Structural design to minimize Superman related damage in Metropolis. Ronnie was proud of his project and had enjoyed analyzing the powers of Metropolis’ hero, but he lost any chance he had at winning when he decided to leave his project to go flirt with Caitlin. At least Kara, whose project was next to his, seemed interested.
Hartley Rathaway – something to do with sound waves
Lily Stein (Gr. 11) – designing and comparing different miniaturized forms of renewable energy sources. She had some help from her dad.
Patty Spivot – Recreation of crime scene evidence using food models. A bunch of her friends (her whole cabin actually) from her summer camp for those interested in law enforcement came to support her.
-       Maggie Sawyer – seemed really interested in the bird project
-       Ralph Dibny – found every project that said it was OK to touch. His favourite was slime. To Patty’s surprise he didn’t break anything.
-       Dinah Drake – hung out with Patty most of the time. Talked to Hartley, beside her, about his project on sound waves for a bit (seemed kinda interested). Patty joined her when she got into a conversation with Sara, across the way, and Laurel about the implications of her biomechanics project in fighting and self-defence. The rest of the time they talked about that Vince guy from camp Dinah thought was cute.
-       Eddie Thawne – he hung out with Patty most of the time too but did do a lap of the fair with Iris, who was there supporting Barry, when she accepted his offer to buy her something at the concession.
Notable events:
- Clark came to see Alex and Kara’s project and brought James and Lois with him. Kara and Clark (very subtly) tested the models on the project beside them that had been abandoned and were said to be superman proof/resistant. They were very impressed to discover the models did indeed stand-up to heat vison, freeze breath and super-strength leading Clark to believe the student had a bright future. James spent most of his time talking to Winn about his pop-up room project because, “Don’t you think these would be way better than cubicles, the Daily Planet should definitely purchase some.”
- Cat Grant, a young reporter from the National City Tribune pushing a stroller, came around and interviewed all the contestants because, “What better place to find the next world changing innovator or innovation” as she put it when she stopped to talk to Clark (more like flirt Kara thought). Alex used Clark distracting Cat as an opportunity to play with the baby in the stroller. This was the only time during the entire science fair Alex was distracted, except maybe when Maggie had come, but they mainly talked about the project like Alex did with everyone, which left Alex wondering why it felt different. During their entire interview Cat called Kara Kira, much to her annoyance. At least the baby seemed to like her. This interview sparked a conversation between Kara, Lois and Clark about journalism which Iris overhead while she was visiting Barry and joined in.
- Graduate students Ray Palmer and Curtis Holt were volunteer judges and ticket takers. Curtis wore a varsity jacket over his shirt and tie which covered his name tag, but at every project he judged he would describe every aspect as terrific, so the contestants started calling him Mr. Terrific. While judging Barry’s project they began a discussion about their favourite elements/minerals/gems. Barry couldn’t decide so joked he liked Barium. Ray shared his love for dwarf star alloy with a ‘quick’ lecture about its rumoured properties and potential uses. Curtis listed at least 10 compounds essential for modern tech as he flip-flopped back and forth trying to decide a favourite and Lex Luthor who was visiting his sister’s project beside them interjected that he favoured kryptonite. While taking tickets Curtis witnessed the following interaction. He asked Damian Darhk, who was carrying baby Nora, what brought him to the science fair. He responded with “These are the brightest young minds in the country and being young means they are malleable. So, there is nowhere better to recruit future talent for my enterprise.” Malcolm Merlyn, who was behind, him added “I know exactly what you mean with what the world’s coming to we’re going to need a bright mind to save it.” This led Tommy, who was accompanying him, to say “I thought we were just here to support the Queen’s.” Then one of the other judges, Dr. Harrison Wells aka Eobard Thawne in disguise, added “No your Dad is right. This world’s next HERO could be in this very room. I’ve already made a list of students to keep my eye on.” He pulled out a small piece of paper from his pocket. On it Curtis saw four names: Hartley Rathaway, Cisco Ramon, Caitlin Snow and Ronnie Raymond. This led to a long conversation between the three men about numerous threats to society, the country and the world and the possible drastic solutions that would need to be employed to stop them. When they left Curtis turned to Ray and asked, “Was it just me or were those Doomsday Dudes really creepy?” “What” Ray replied his attention clearly being pulled from elsewhere. But before Curtis could answer a voice behind him said “Doomsday Dudes is a terrible nickname you should call them the Legion of Doom.” Curtis turned to find Cisco. “Just saying,” he continued, “anyway I heard there’s free Big Belly Burger for the contestants. When’s that coming?” Ray had missed the entire conversation Curtis was asking about because he had been making funny faces at baby Nora the whole time hoping to make her smile or laugh but she had just stared at him with her big blue eyes.
- Queen consolidated gave out a $1500 scholarship and a summer internship at the applied sciences division. This year Moira and Robert had made Oliver come and brought 9-year-old Thea. Oliver was tasked with watching Thea who ran around the entire science fair wanting to look at and touch all the projects even the ones with big ‘Do Not Touch’ signs on them. She spent at least an hour trying to get everybody around the robot pianist to sing and dance with her. Most people ignored her although she was able to get Cisco, Winn, Stein, Joe, Kara (who kept trying to get Alex to join) and to Oliver’s surprise Malcolm Merlyn all to sing with her and they were all surprisingly good. She also got many people to dance including the Lance girls. She even convinced Cisco to make the robot play some of her favourite songs from Disney movies. Barry was very happy that he was able to convince Iris to dance with him for a couple songs with just a little encouragement from Thea and despite Kara’s constant encouragement Alex only agreed to dance when Maggie asked. Oliver had to present his family’s award which went to Felicity. When her name was announced Donna yelled “Woohoo, that’s my daughter! Way to go sweetie!” which earned a whispered “Mom, ssshh” and accompanied eye roll from Felicity as she headed to the stage with her head down and cheeks flushed. When she got onstage Oliver presented her with her award and Felicity began to babble, “Thanks. This is so cool. I’m such a big fan of yours… well not yours… your company… your family’s company. But uh you seem cool too. I could be a fan of yours, but not like a creepy stalker fan just like a normal supportive fan, ya know. I’m sorry, I’m rambling, it’s just, I don’t know what to say. Your very handsome… and I just said that out loud. I’m so sorry.” She stops and whispers “come on Smoak, pull yourself together,” then takes a deep breath before addressing Oliver again, “Thank-you again for the award and I look forward to working with you, or for you. I’m just gonna go now.” Oliver couldn’t help smiling as she left and thinking that just maybe if she had been around when Thea was partnering everyone up to dance he may have just participated.
- Kara quickly got bored of standing by her project and started wandering around to talk to the other contestants. She spent a good chunk of time talking to Barry. Tried to join in on a heated debate between Felicity, Cisco and Winn about the best language to code in but quickly left when she had no idea what they were talking about. She ended up spending most of her time with Lena. They talked about their projects, their lives and interests and about dealing with new and scary situations especially when you feel different from everyone else and learnt that they were both adopted. However, the whole time they were talking Lena’s eyes kept scanning the room as if waiting for something to jump out and scare her. Kara learnt why when a woman Kara thought must be Lena’s mother showed up and menacingly questioned why she was distracting her daughter.
- J’onn came in disguise to check out the Danvers sister’s project

I’m going to do a weird.
I know a whole lot of us are stuck at home due to the COVID19 outbreak and all our respective governments attempting to flatten the curve. So I’m going to break out my VAST library of fanfiction recommendations for you to read! Please bear in mind that my tastes in fics are not necessarily like yours so the following 15 Fandom reccs might be hit or miss. All ships and above T ratings will be tagged with brackets, all crossovers will be mentioned in those same brackets. Also, if I mention it’s part of a series, I’m not just recommending the fic I mentioned, I’m recommending the whole series. I’ve tried to recommend a different author’s fic each time. So! Let’s start with the 3 fandoms I mention in my blog description.
1) ATLA Fate Deferred (Zutara) Aang remains in the iceberg ten years longer. Sozin’s comet comes, the world keeps turning with no Avatar to save it, and by the time he’s finally found by a waterbender and her Fire Nation husband, a lot has changed. [Zutara established relationship full series rewrite; Now on Book II: Earth]  Cheating at Pai Sho (Canon Divergence) “You said you were the Avatar!” “…I lied?” Aang doesn’t get rescued in episode two, and no one’s seen him go glowy yet… so he starts bluffing. Hard. Or: “The Avatar joins Zuko’s quest to find the Avatar.” In which Zuko doesn’t join the Gaang, the Gaang joins Zuko.  The Undying Fire: Blood and Fire (First in the Undying Fire Series, eventual Zutara) Book 1. In which rescuing the Avatar from Pohuai Stronghold doesn’t end so well. It’s a tough life being a banished prince trying to get home, especially when the Avatar just wants to be your friend and keeps making everything confusing. Oh, and did Zuko mention he somehow healed the kid? Yeah, that happened. Stalking Zuko (First in the Stalking Zuko Series, eventual Zutara) Katara has developed a new hobby. At the Western Air Temple she takes to stalking Zuko. Much silliness and shenanigans follow. In chapter 20: Katara and Zuko return home to the others. Katara hates the F word and she comes to a decision regarding Zuko.  Embers (Canon divergence) Dragon’s fire is not so easily extinguished; when Zuko rediscovers a lost firebending technique, shifting flames can shift the world…  2) Percy Jackson and the Olympians The Father (Percabeth in the GFFA, eventual Anidala) It all started with a wish, but because it was Percy Jackson it couldn’t have been a friendly goddess granting him a wish. No, it had to be Nemesis, goddess of revenge and balance. Now Percy and Annabeth are stuck in a strange new galaxy right when an ancient and powerful darkness finally begins to stir.  Glass Figures (MCU Mashup) I lifted my gun, pointing it towards the minefield of shattered fragments, and kicked the small coffee table out of the way.Only to stare down at an awfully familiar face, which split into a somewhat lopsided grin. The intruder raised his hands in a mocking surrender. //“Long time no see, dude.” //I lowered the gun. “What the hell are you doing in South Peru?” //Or in which Clint Barton and Percy Jackson have a long personal history that starts in high school. All Together, Cousins (Canon divergence) When Thalia ran away with her toddler brother, Jason, she slowly gathered her cousins: she and her cousins being Big Three children. As Jason gets older and their motley group expands to six, Thalia resigns herself to the fact that she won’t always be the leader of the pack. As she accepts that, something more is coming, able to challenge even the gods above. A Crown of Golden Leaves (Historical AU) Annabeth, a Lady from the declining polis of Athens, must marry the Heir Apparent of Rome to save the rapidly expanding world from a threat even the gods couldn’t foresee.  Deluge (Percy in the Arrowverse) Barry has to deal with yet another Metahuman that Zoom has pitted against him. But this ‘Metahuman’ is an unwilling pawn in Zoom’s plan and really wants to find a way around killing the Scarlet Speester. But how can he when Zoom is holding something against him?
3) DC Firework (First in the Sparks in the Dark Series) Orphaned and removed from the only life he’s ever known, Dick feels like there’s no light left for him in the world. His new benefactor, however, still sees something worth saving… Chronological beginning of the Spark in the Dark series.   Iron, Fire, Mirror-Glass After a brutal confrontation with Bane, Bruce comes away with a broken spine and the certainty that his days as Batman are over. An unexpected discovery offers him another chance—but at what price? The story of a man who risks his soul for the sake of his mission, the dangerous creature he names Robin, and the unlikely partnership that will shape the legend of Gotham’s Dark Knight.  Get Back Up There was a mole, one who played a long game. The team was betrayed, crushed. Robin nearly died. What are they going to do now? Only one chirped the answer. Get back up. WARNING: lots of talking, little action, many follow ups  Five Times …Five times Damian thought of Dick Grayson as his father, and the one time Dick thought of Damian as his son. Future-fic. YJ characters will show up later. Batman!Dick and Damian as Robin. With guest appearances from Jason, Tim, Cass, and Steph.  Unveiling the Mystery Series of one-shots about the team learning a little about Robin (Dick Grayson).   With all the fics, I heavily suggest you also read what else these authors have to offer in their archive.
And now here’s the plethora of other fandoms I read fics in under the cut!
4) Harry Potter The Horse (Mature) Looking after a Muggle animal should be easy compared to saving Hogwarts from Voldemort. Harry and Draco might disagree with that. Featuring Luna, Marauders, peppermints and, of course, a tall, black, badtempered horse named Simon. The Potions Master’s Nephew An accident occurs and Professor Snape finds himself trapped in his fifteen-year-old body. Enrolled into Harry Potter’s fifth year, he is forced to hide his true identity. Girls, drama and teenage angst do not bode well with Severus. Keeping Up with the Grangers (Dramione, Mature) Mr. Malfoy, I invite you and your mother to tea next Tuesday, May 25th at 2o’clock to discuss recent events. Dr. Helen Granger //…  …// He glances at the boxy too-uniform numbers flashing on the face of Richard’s radio. It’s nearly noon, and he should be getting ready to leave; but there is still a harsh tension in his shoulders and neck that he wants to work out before Hermione finds him. It is, after all, Tuesday; and while his Tuesdays were designated ‘tea with Helen’ days previously, they are now ‘lunch with Granger’ days, ever since the chance meet-up with the Weasel’s wife and the insufferable swot herself. Faceless (Dramione, Mature) New year. New love. New threat. A powerful enemy is on the rise, and Hermione Granger finds herself intertwined in a relationship with Draco Malfoy – only she doesn’t know it’s him. / / RUNNER-UP: Enchanted Awards Summer 2017 for Best Relationship Development

Fortuna’s Fool Events after DMC5 with flashbacks to the events we briefly see in DMC4SE only with Vergil telling Dante all about Nero’s mother. Family ties are so complicated, aren’t they? Family of Happenstance Some orphans have happy endings, getting adopted or finding their family. Having a demon slaying half devil for a father tends to throw a tiny monkey wrench in the process. Somehow, they have to figure out how to make it back to their present without destroying it or themselves. Why I Think Supergirl's Ratings Are So Bad Now
Disclaimer: I was totally fine ending the discussion by sharing the number and saying I know why the ratings are so bad now but I won’t say why.  But then I saw this comment to my ask:
“madeunmexico said: I want to know! Cause whether we agree or not on whether the numbers matter; none of us know why the numbers are so bad but we all have our reasons why we stopped watching. Anyway, I like to see what you think anon”
So if anyone doesn’t like what I have to say, blame madeunmexico.  I kid, mexico.  Well, mostly.
Let me preface this by saying there are basically two factions of audiences in any genre show: the “nerds” and the mainstream audience.  We’ve talked extensively here why the mainstream audience has had enough and I largely agree with the points made: no one wants a show about the snowflake queen, wants to see Kara miserable without love, wants to see Supergirl sidelined on her own show, etc.
But why would this alienate the “nerds”?  The people who are fans of the canon, comic book fans, etc.?  Because there is nothing about this show that is even remotely authentic Supergirl anymore, or even authentic superhero show.  Think about how many versions of Superman/Supergirl there have been now, each of them interpreted very differently, but still, always at the root of the show is that it’s a show about a superhero undoing the bad things the supervillain did each week, promoting truth, justice, American way, blah blah blah.  Every iteration has been this way: the George Reeve show, Lois and Clark, the 90s animated shows, Smallville, even the Christopher Reeve movies.  Those were all enjoyable to watch and pretty successful because they more or less followed that formula with their own twist (Smallville=prequel, Lois and Clark=romantic dramedy, animated show=classic comic book canon).  There is obviously room for more than one interpretation and the fact that all of these were successful shows proves more than one variation can be done and the audiences will care, case in point, Lois and Clark was one of the worst-reviewed shows when it premiered but it ran a full 5-6 seasons if I remember correctly.  I for one really enjoyed it, cheesy as it was, and Teri Hatcher was much more fun to watch as Lois than Rhea.
So why isn’t Supergirl working?  Or rather, why have the last few seasons not been working?  Because all this iteration seems to care about it this ridiculous “woke” phenomenon AT THE COST OF WRITING A GREAT SHOW WITH GREAT CHARACTERS AND STORIES THAT PEOPLE WANT TO WATCH.  I could just submit this paragraph and say nothing else.  I’ll say what I’ve said all along before: season 1 was the most authentically done season of Supergirl.  Period.  Whether you liked it or not, it was the closest to the super shows of the past: each week a villain to defeat, maybe grey villains and season-long arcs (Alura and Non, Maxwell Lord), and that’s it.  They stuck to the formula and it worked.  That’s what the nerds want to see.  Whereas with the lousy change of leadership once the show moved to the CW, all the writers seemed to care was how woke this show is.  I really think people are sick of it, both the nerds and the mainstream audience too.
I’ve watched most all the other superhero shows I’ve mentioned here (too young for the George Reeve show).  And I’ve mentioned time and time again that none of them ever addressed politics like Supergirl does, with no subtlety or clever writing but more like a battering ram that just exhausts and bores people eventually.  I’m not the only one who thinks this way either.  Most people who watch these shows watch for ESCAPISM.  They’re sick and tired of the endless politics and horrors of real life (especially in the US), for just an hour or two, they want to forget all of that.  They want to see the good guys beat the bad guys, find friends, find love, HAVE FUN.  You see any of that on Supergirl now?  No, you don’t.  Only second to all the comments I’ve seen about how they’re sick of the politics constantly being shoved down everyone’s throats is the constant comments to bring back Mon El.  FFS, there’s video of melwood being asked about this at Melissa’s Beautiful stagedoor appearance!  But no, this show is more interested in DIVERSITY! THIS CAUSE!  THAT CAUSE! FAUX FEMINISM AKA MAKING ALL THE MEN LOOK WEAK AND PATHETIC! Who cares about Kara or the fact she’s Supergirl if they can get on their soapboxes and be the obnoxious social justice warriors who have to go on and on and suck all the fun and joy from life every single second, right?  That’s a large part of why no one wants to watch anymore.  And I say this as someone who  talks about politics and SJW stuff on my social media.  But I don’t want to watch it on tv being hammered with it on a show I watch for escapism.  I need a break too, damn it, and it looks like I’m not the only one who does.
SG writers need to realize the show they’re making and who their audience is.  They need to realize this show is not The Colbert Show or The Daily Show or CNN or even Family Guy or American Dad.  The latter two can get away with it because they’re written brilliantly and irreverently and very funny (whether you agree with Seth MacFarlane’s politics or not).  Why do you think The Flash is the highest-rated show in the Arrowverse?  Because they follow that authentic superhero formula I mentioned and never once have tried to be hip or woke or SJW.  The show will expound on family or friendship or sacrifice but it never attempts to get on a soapbox as far as I’ve seen.  Hell, even Arrow and Legends haven’t as far as I know and they’re now getting better ratings than SG.  Not going to lie, I wish the show had remained on CBS with the original writers.   I still think that season is the best, I don’t care how much anyone else dislikes it.  It was canon-ish Supergirl, not this mess they’re churning out now.
I will leave you with this: recently, both a new tv show and a movie that just came out have flopped very badly because of the exact reasons I’ve said why SG is failing now.  One is the new comedy Sunnyside on NBC, guess what it’s about: a political-ish show about immigration.  Huge flop.  The other is an action movie that came out just now and I won’t say more about it so I don’t spoil it but apparently they did some radical feminist slant to it and really pissed off the audiences of the classic movies.  BOMB and guess what got the blame for it.  This woke phenomenon.  It’s given rise to a phrase now - “woke means broke."  Everything is political.  Everything has to have an underlying message.  Everyone is walking on eggshells to try to avoid pissing off someone because outrage culture is everywhere.  And for the ones of us who just want to watch a show or movie and have a good time or a harmless diversion, too damn bad.
*drops mic* I’m out.  Post all your outrage below and don’t be shy! ;)
***
I’m posting it, but not commenting right now - becasue I have too much work to do and my brain is dead, but will later.
Anyway, @madeunmexico that’s for you.

Now that Arrow has concluded an incredible eight-season run, I couldn’t help reflecting on more than what happened on the show itself during that timespan. It wasn’t just enough to reminisce on what happened to the Emerald Archer on the small screen, but also to look back on what transpired in my own life over that period.
The more I got to thinking, this game-changing TV series was running parallel to my career as a writer. Although Arrow got things started by premiering in October 2012, I wasn’t lagging too far behind when I began as a volunteer contributor at Comic Book Movie in July 2013. As the show grew, I did likewise as a person and a writer – and there was more than a little overlap.
From this point on, I’ll sum up the finer points of my journey so that you can see the affect an inspiring work of fiction such as Arrow can have on a real person. I hope you all enjoy this piece, and you’re more than welcome to share your own stories in the comments section. Our own Damian Fasciani recently wrote a retrospective of his own, so click here if you would like to check out that as well.
My Name Is Oliver Queen, I Mean, Eric Joseph
Like I said, my time as a writer pretty much ran parallel to Arrow as it grew from a standalone superhero show/crime drama into something that birthed an entire universe of comic book adaptations on television. I didn’t stick around at the aforementioned CBM for too long, later making my way to Dark Knight News (2014-17) and We Got This Covered (2015-19).
Along the way, I had the chance to meet various cast members at different points during the series’ lifespan, thereby lending multiple perspectives on the tale as it grew. Some of them them I merely met at conventions, while others I actually got to interview.
Motor City Comic Con (you’re going to see that one referenced a lot) was often the means I had of making this all possible. In 2014 alone, I was able to shake hands with Katie Cassidy (Laurel Lance), John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn) and Robert Knepper (Clock King). Cool as that was, it prepared me for the interview opportunity I’d get with Michael Rowe (Deadshot) in 2015.
2016 was a mixed bag, as I met – but didn’t interview – Katrina Law (Nyssa al Ghul), though I did get to speak with Echo Kellum (Mister Terrific) over the phone. I won’t forget either of those experiences, but I’m holding out hope that Kellum will roll through Detroit as some point so that I may actually meet him face-to-face.
If you’re keeping track, these encounters went down near the conclusions of seasons 2, 3 and 4, respectively, with the Echo Kellum phoner happening right before the “Invasion!” crossover. Dedicated fans of Arrow shouldn’t have to strain themselves remembering what each of these characters were going through at those times, and what it must’ve been like to hear, say, Katie Cassidy tease the inevitable Black Canary reveal, or how Kellum’s Curtis Holt may deal with Dominators.

Cosplay
It’s at this time I’ll discuss the cosplay element. This is a field to which I’m certainly no stranger, and I always wanted to own an awesome-looking superhero costume. Seeing as how Batman is my favorite character, he’d be a no-brainer, right?
Well, if you’ve looked around at gear online, then you know how Batman costumes that don’t look like crap are quite expensive. This was key in my motivation for instead laying down money on a replica of the Green Arrow suit worn by Stephen Amell in seasons 5-7. For an affordable price, I felt every bit as badass as my onscreen hero, and the compliments from fellow convention attendees never cease whenever I choose to suit up. Heck, I’ve even worn that thing to a cosplay beach party!
Although I wouldn’t mind taking a crack at the Dark Knight at some point, there’s something inherently altruistic I’ve noticed about guys cosplaying as Batman that I don’t think I share. But Oliver Queen (at least The CW’s version) is flawed. He’s made mistakes unlike those of Bruce Wayne’s. He’s done stuff he’s not particularly proud of – but he never stops trying to better himself. That, I found relatable, and it occurs to me when I flip up that hood.
All that said, you couldn’t believe how elated I was when Stephen Amell himself shared a DC group cosplay photo taken at Youmacon 2017 (above) on his Facebook page for one of his “Fan Art Fridays.” Yes, I was the one who submitted it, but to see the man himself deeming myself and the accompanying DC enthusiasts worthy of sharing with his fanbase at large was truly touching.
Which brings me to…

The Main Event
If I have to single out my favorite event ever attended, that honor will probably go to Motor City Comic Con 2018. Should you have been there as well, then you’ll recall how that particular show was an embarrassment of riches when it came to booking actors from superhero shows – and where I finally met Stephen Amell himself.
Hey, he may have not been doing interviews for that weekend, but getting a photo with him and attending his panel meant the world to me. Despite him being only a few years older in age, that doesn’t mean I can’t look to him as a positive example.  I mean, the guy is known for having an incredible connection with his fans, doing charity work, and has even appeared on American Ninja Warrior.
Speaking of which, a lot of praise could be thrown Kirk Acevedo’s way as well. The man responsible for bringing the inhumane Ricardo Diaz to life is actually an awesome person himself. I actually did get to interview him during that weekend, as we discussed what was next for “The Dragon” in season 6.
Before I move on, I’d like to give an honorable mention to one Cress Williams. Black Lightning may have not been part of the Arrowverse at the time, but it sure is now. I likewise interviewed him on behalf of WGTC, as he was just cooling off after a spectacular debut season.
Fadeout
If there’s any impression I’d like this article to leave on you, the reader, it’s that you shouldn’t let anyone tell you it’s silly to say a TV show can impact you. Arrow, The Flash, Black Lightning and countless others can be a driving force in inspiring ourselves to become better people. To Stephen Amell, his co-stars and crew, I thank you all for eight years of phenomenal storytelling – and I hope to once again meet the people mentioned above.
You helped me become someone else…something else.
Reflecting On A Personal Journey Through Arrow's World Now that Arrow has concluded an incredible eight-season run, I couldn't help reflecting on more than what happened on the show itself during that timespan.

Fic Recs for Fanfic Writers’ Appreciation Day
Tumblr media
Here are some of my favourite fics of the year, in no particular order. Go and read these absolute gems, and everything by these writers. <3
Tumblr media
Coldwestallen
Risks Worth Taking by @sproutwings (one-shot, pre-OT3) - I loved the simplicity of this one. All three of them are never in the same room. It’s all anticipation and UST and *sigh*.
Essential Precautions by @barrylen (multi-chapter, complete) - the one with Nora getting Len and her parents together. THE CUTEST.
Crossing Lines by @heyheyohsorry (one-shot) - older fic that I only just found, and I have no idea how it took me this long. What a fascinating twist - and it’ll break your heart. <3
But Needs Must as the Devil Drives by @coldtomyflash (WIP) is deliciously dark. I think it’s on hiatus - but I recommend anyway.
Coldwave
Boilersuit Blue by @kleptoandpyro (one-shot) - from slightly more than a year ago but worth revisiting. Gorgeous. Expect to cry.
Tonight I’m Gonna Party Like It’s 1989 (In Denmark) by @bold-sartorial-statement (one-shot). While I adore all the ‘got married young’ nonsense fic about coldwave, I love something that tries to make that work with actual history. A coldwave classic.
Gloves by @beware-the-ravenstag (one-shot, Mick Rory, allusions to past coldwave) - 200 words of tiny perfection after which you will cry.
Until Death Do Us Part by @blueelvewithwings (one-shot) - I’d recommend a dozen of Aurelia’s fics if I had space! I love her fluffier ones - this is not one of those, but it is great coldwave. Dark, sad, horrifying, I love it.
Spiced to Perfection by @hiverforesteevee (one-shot, NSFW) - small and perfectly formed. <3
Westallen
gold, when you find me by @latebarryallen (multi-chapter, complete) - the coffee shop AU with Iris writing a comic strip about ‘the Streak’ that I never knew I needed, till @zariadriannatomaz recced. Hilarious, adorable.
everything by @zariadriannatomaz (one-shot, NSFW) - it’s SO rare that I read smut that I enjoy, especially m/f, and this was gorgeous.
I’m Yours by Ms_C_Marie (one-shot) - beautiful recovery/getting together/learning to make space for each other fic.
you can lean on my arm as you break my heart by korrasamis (one-shot) - a chillingly sad Iris-centric meditation on Iris/Barry. Will break your heart.
Captain Canary
Let Us Be Lovers (We’ll Marry Our Fortunes Together) by @dragongoddess13 (multi-chapter, complete) - the loveliest feels-y road trip AU. <3
Possessive Charms series by Ninhursag (mutli-chapter, complete) - this author writes some great darkfic. Some good people have some very bad ideas, and come back from it stronger.
Gen
i just wanna have fun and (get rowdy) by @joanthangroff (multi-chapter, complete, mix of gen & various ships) - I started reading because it looked like a cute ‘everybody’s queer’ groupchat fic. I binged for 3 days... it was exactly that, but MUCH deeper and better than I expected. <3
Snippets from the Waverider by @terrayoung continues to be the tinyfic collection you MUST read (WIP, gen & various Legends ships). The snippet I just quoted in a review was Zari and Jax: “Sarcasm is not an emotion.” “I know, for you it’s a way of life.” “No, it’s more like a hobby I’m really dedicated to.”
Shades of Blue by @areyouscarletcold (one-shot, QPR goldenvibe) - the most delicious angst and friendship and mutual support.
Remember What You’re Staring At Is Me by @tarrinatopaz (one-shot, Earth-X Leo Snart & Earth-1 Lisa Snart) - sad and sweet and haunting.
Family Pride by Kitkatt0430 (one-shot, mostly gen, background westallen) - lovely coming out story.
Of Pancakes and Butterflies by @incendiaglacies (one-shot in a series, Gideon & Jax Jackson & Martina Jackson) - gorgeous reflection on friendship and recovering from grief, and it’s adorable.
Other Ships
To Those Who Love (Only When They’re Bleeding) by Lady_Vibeke (one-shot, rogue canary) - LV’s writing is subtle and poetic and I love it.
in her eyes (and all that other mushy crap) by themuslimbarbie (one-shot, Sara Lance/Zari Tomaz) - beautiful and sad and real.
I Say It’s Up To Fate by @stillthewordgirl (one-shot, Leonard Snart/Sara Lance/John Constantine) - you have to love that ‘brand new OT3’ feeling, and this hit me in all those feels. I love Jael’s subtle writing, here and in all her fic.
cold nights and the Sunday mornings by @joanthangroff (one-shot, hartmon) - gorgeous disability fic with Deaf Hartley - two fingers up to the CW’s ableism.
Livelong Night by @wonderingtheblue (one-shot, olivarry) - an older fic that I read in the past 12 months, and oh just so beautiful and subtle and sad. <3
catharsis by @zariadriannatomaz (one-shot, Nyssa Al Ghul/E2 Dinah Laurel Lance) - beautiful writing. Mina writes THE BEST lauryssa (any Earth versions), which I didn’t ship until she dragged me into it & I’m glad she did!
Five times Rip knew that Time hadn’t completely forsaken him by @kleptoandpyro (one-shot, Rip Hunter/Leonard Snart) - klep should write more - I savour every damn word they write. Perfection.
amare daemonium by @madprinceofdenmark (one-shot, coldatom) - a very surprising and interestingly conceived demon!Ray AU.
A Is For Aftercare by @blueelvewithwings (one-shot, coldflash, NSFW) - if you like kink fic, everything Aurelia writes is amazing, but this is the sweetest.
Rules to Break by @greensphynx-thecloset (olivarry, NSFW) - another perfect kink fic, written for me, and oh god *shivers*... perfect.
Tumblr media
after the battle, it’s time we go home by verboseDescription (gen Doom Patrol - Vic Stone & Team Doom Patrol) - a fic in which Vic actually gets to deal with his trauma. Found family feels. <3
No Equivalent Substitute by Penlex (The Adventure Zone - Balance Arc) - this whole series is heartbreakingly beautiful, but this one ripped my heart out and then fed me thirty garlic clove chicken. Sob.
Passing Radon Canyon by cher (Alice Isn’t Dead, Welcome To Night Vale) - a lil crossover fic written for me for Yuletide. Deeply creepy.
Screen Time by SilentSilhouette (gen Doom Patrol) - Moments in Doom Manor. Unexpectedly deep. Hits the tone of the show perfectly.
Tumblr media
My favourite of my own fics this year was Stealing Time (coldwestallen). I’m having way too much fun writing cwa recently.
Also it’s a year to the day since I started Mending Wall (QPR coldwave), so if you haven’t read that (it’s complete), go catch up!
This year I started my 50th Arrowverse fic, ‘Saving Time’ (coldwestallen).
HAPPY FANFIC WRITERS’ DAY TO EVERYONE whether or not I recced your fic... I ran out of time but could have recced a dozen more! <3

Why Lena Luthor Matters (Even When Others Actions Prove Otherwise)
*taps mic* is this thing on?
Last night during the season finale of Supergirl (A show I was diametrically opposed to when it first started (feminist for feminist sake is almost worse than pandering to people of color. stop it. And to be honest, it ain’t have that many black people in it *Shrugs*), to becoming my favorite show in the Arrowverse.
for one reason actually. Lena Luthor. I watched the 2nd season, and immediately became attached to her.
It’s not just because of Katie Mcgrath. (huge part of it. I mean come on, shes beautiful incarnate and is as smart as the day is long)
Lena is the most relatable person on the show for reasons amplified last night.
*Spoiler ahead*
The big reveal happened. But in a way that you can expect for a Luthor. It was shot at her. Because thats whats done to Lena. It shot darts at her insecurites, her crippling lack of self worth and her ability to trust.
People who have been one half of an abusive relationship, knew all too well how Lena felt and thats why it hurt so much to watch.
I woke up this morning thinking of it.
When you are part of a cycle of abuse, whether at the hands of family or a spouse or a boyfriend or girlfriend.
Everything you think you know about yourself, you question every single day. The things you were told, you question. Even the good things.
Now Kara was not abusive. (Lex was definitely abusive. Emotionally, psychologically and physically sometimes. Its a comic book show yes, but he was definitely an abuser)
But Kara was part of that cycle of self doubt and that is just as bad. Because she knew how much it would hurt, and she still said nothing. They told each other everything. Lena gave up so much about herself. About her mother and brother. Her adoption, her loneliness, the torment she faced at the hands of Lex and Kara sat there with a stupid look on her face and said nothing while still calling Lena her best friend.
Everyone in that group betrayed Lena. James is almost as guilty as Kara to be honest.
(That whole relationship was predicated on dishonesty and foolishness anyways. Forced like a penny in a nostril. James is quite possibly the worst character ever and I know they’re going to keep him around, cause Mechad is an itch in the middle of your back and he loves the paycheck and his inflated sense of self worth. I would say way worse, but I’m black and he’s a black king and I won’t give the racist fangirls any leeway to spread their ignorance around)
ANYWAYS!
We have all felt like that. Where we have felt left out and isolated by people we loved and THOUGHT loved us.
And thats why Lena is rightFULLY pissed because here her best friend couldn’t let her know in the three years that they’ve known each other that she was Supergirl. Including that time when they were BEEFING. So Kara was being fake in her face, while also being Supergirl.
(Excuse me, while the hood comes out  but I’d smack the fire outta Kara with a Kryptonite glove if I was Lena, but I digress)
While her worst enemy, with his dying breath told her the truth.
(Lex was her biggest speed bump in all of her accomplishments and personal growth and development, ergo worst enemy)
Thats all Lena is going to think about when she thinks of that moment. Not that he did it out of spite, but that he actually did what Kara couldn’t.
tell her the truth.
Now she’s going to rethink every moment they had. Every smile they shared. Every meal they shared. Every time Kara ran away. A lot of those times could’ve been her running away to actually work on a story, but anger and sadness are BLINDING.
All of Lena’s happiness for the past three years was built on a throne of lies and deception. She had no family with no Kara. Now she has one, and Kara’s dishonesty, is snatching her family away again.
“Kara kept it a secret to protect her”
Lena disarmed, dismantled and killed the most wanted man (an abusive brother she grew up with who had crippled her self worth and self esteem) in the universe with a gun and her brains.
Lena didn’t need Kara to protect her.
Lena is the strongest person on that show.
Lena needed Kara to reassure her.
And Kara failed.
How long is Lena supposed to act cool, until she’s allowed to snap. I wanna know.
I don’t know what the next season will bring, but probably its going to be angst and anxiety for Lena.

The Dynamic Duo Meets
so this is a one-shot about arrowverse!Barry meeting Hal. it was written before the 2018-2019 season but set after it (written before flash s5 but set right after it ended, where's the logic? idk)  so heavy canon divergence  it was supposed to be part of a bigger story (an arrowverse version of blackest nights) but with the flash’s quality dropping I lost the will to write  but here’s the scene where halbarry met
Barry and Hal met for the first time in Coast City. The Flash had just defeated Cicada and since this year there had been no near-destruction of Central City, Team Flash and everyone in on the secret was ready to celebrate. There was no other way to celebrate than to get the best pizza that could be eaten in the United States. Barry called to place his order, 2 extra large pepperoni, olives and jalapeños for him, 2 extra large pepperonis, one large all dressed,  one medium cheese, and one medium vegetarian (he could have ordered more for Wally, Nora and himself but seven pizzas were already a hassle to carry), before running across half the country to pick it up.
He considered stopping by to check on Oliver and his team while he passed by Star City to make sure that they were alright and didn’t need any help. He decided against it, knowing that 1. Oliver didn’t like it when randomly showed up without calling first, 2. Oliver would have called him if he needed the extra help and 3. Oliver was most probably finally spending some downtime with his family.
He arrived in Coast City, picked up the pizzas and headed back.
He felt the sun of his skin and enjoyed the warmth. He took a big breath. Coast City was truly a wonderful and beautiful city. Maybe, now that Cicada was locked away in Iron Heights, he could take a week off from work and take some vacations there with Iris, Nora, Joe, Cecile and Jenna. He was sure Cisco, Caitlin and Ralph wouldn’t mind covering patrol for him.
Barry was considering inviting Oliver and his family when he collided with something and fell down on his back. Disoriented, he looked up and saw a green wall in front of him. He cursed himself for being too caught up in his thoughts and not paying attention to where he was going. He could have easily vibrated through the wall, but instead, he was too busy fantasizing about his next beach vacation. It was a wonder he wasn’t dead yet.
The green wall disappeared. “So you’re the one they’ve been calling the Flash, uh?”
Barry looked up to where the voice came from. It came from a man dressed all in green, floating in the air and wearing a domino mask. He vibrated his face and his voice “Who are you?”
“Don’t worry about hiding your secret identity, I already saw your face.” When the man saw Barry getting ready to fight him, he continued “Chill bro. I’m not here to fight you, I’m a good guy. I’m a Green Lantern.”
“What’s a green lantern?”
“Short answer is that I’m an intergalactic peace officer. Or, simply put, a space cop.”
“A space cop? So you fight aliens?”
“Yeah”
“So where were you when the Dominators attacked and tried to invade us?”
“Well, the Smurf didn't want to interfere at first because the Dominators appeared to come in peace and also because apparently, they had made a deal with some US government officials back in the ’50s. And since Earth isn’t technically in the Corp’s jurisdiction, so we couldn’t really do anything about without possibly starting a war with the Dominators. And then shit went down, I told the Smurfs I was going back to Earth, not as a Green Lantern, but simply as someone who wanted to protect their home, but right at that moment Sinestro attacked and killed a multiple of our own. I think he did it on purpose, timing his attack when he could hurt me the most.”
‘’So how many Green Lanterns are there?’’
‘’In total, more than a hundred. Human, there’s five of us. But I was actually the first ever human to become a Green Lantern. Nowadays, the rookies learn the tales of Hal Jordan the greatest Green Lantern. I’m not even bragging.”
‘’Hal Jordan?’’ Barry raised his eyebrow. ‘’As in the Air Ferris pilot that disappeared mid-air?’’
‘’The one and only. Why you’re a fan? I understand some girl mourned my death after they saw my pictures on the news?’’
‘’Haha no. I researched a lot about your disappearance, even got into some conspiracy theories, for a blog I ran when I was younger. I guess those that say you got abducted by aliens were right.’’
Hal raised his eyebrows and smirked ‘’If you say so, bro. So you know who I am? What about you, Flash, what’s your name and what’s your day job?’’
‘’I’m Barry Allen and I work for the Central City Police Department, I’m a CSI. ’’
“Well Barry, are you eating all those pizzas by yourself or are you throwing a party?” Barry looked next to him and saw the pizzas he had dropped when he fell down. Luckily, all of the boxes remained closed. He picked them all up.
“I burn a lot of calories when I run but they aren’t all for me.” Barry was curious and wanted to learn more about those so-called Green Lantern, but the pizzas were getting cold and there were people that were waiting for him. “I really have to go now but why don’t you come by Star Labs and you can tell me more about space, being a space cop and how you got your powers? You can fly to Central City, right?’’
“No problem. See you tomorrow, Barry Allen.’’
“See you tomorrow Hal Jordan.’’
When Barry got home, Iris took the pizzas from his arms and set them up on the table “ What took you so long?”
“I made a friend.”

In God’s House
A/N: So I have been a long time reader of fanfiction and wrote a bit for the Arrowverse and others. I am working on a project for my Marvel favs but nothing postable yet. I have never really done a writing challenge before but wanted to get myself back into writing after having to take so much time off due to life getting in the way (DAMN LIFE!!!) I was so excited when @buckysforeverprincess let me take part and I hope I did justice here. I little angst and not much smut apart from a heated makeout but still happy FLUFFY ending for all! Enjoy! And let me know what you think!
In God’s House
Tumblr media
It felt like it had taken years to get to this day. Lots of planning, choices, decisions, and a few arguments but it was finally here. And Sam couldn’t be more pleased.
It started 3 years ago.
After Washington D.C. and the fall of SHIELD, Sam had gone on to support Steve with his search for Bucky. Turns out that search would end two years later with the man walking himself into Stark Tower and turning himself over to Tony Stark himself.
Turned out, while discovering his past, Bucky had found out he was to the killer of Tony’s parents. It had been an ordered assassination by higher-ups in Hydra who were after the serum samples and research Howard had been working on at that time. Bucky had discovered his link to the late Starks and immediately wanted to seek redemption from their heir.
Once Tony was able to sit down and fully dissect the event, after of course blowing up in his office and threatening Bucky’s life and freedom- only to have Pepper step in and calm him down- he found that Bucky had only been a pawn or weapon but the true villain was still out there. He started to look into Hydra and the “accident” to find out more about his parents’ deaths. By doing so, Tony was able to uncover multiple Hydra bases. And with the help of the Avengers, including Bucky, the team slowly worked to wipe out all that was left of Hydra after D.C.
During that time, Bucky had begun his treatments to get the words out of his head. Working alongside Wanda, then Shuri when Tony reached out to the King of Wakanda for more materials to make a better arm for Bucky, he was able to gain control of his mind again and finally release the fear of complete loss of control. Through time and treatment, Bucky slowly became trusted by the Avengers and was adopted into the unlikely group or teammates and friends.
He began to see each one for not only what they brought to the group with their pasts and skills, but also their personalities. Bucky enjoyed teasing and taunting Sam on a regular basis, taking it as far as joining Steve on their runs and lapping the younger man while stating “And your right!” The maniacal laugh that trailed after his taunts would fill the Compound on a daily basis.
That was until she arrived.
Y/F/N Y/L/N had ventured in as part of a visit from Director Hill and Coulson, though the team didn’t know he had told Maria to bring her to them. She was an enhanced being with powers over the mind. Somewhat like Wanda’s, Y/N could attach to a person’s emotions and not only manipulate them, but empathize or enhance them. She was found by Coulson’s team just outside of New Orleans, where locals had begun to see a lot of land as empty when a large antebellum home actually resided there. She was manipulating the locals and tourists as she needed to survive but had begun to gain interest amongst Hydra’s last few hold outs. As Tony and the Avengers tackled Hydra, Coulson and his team gathered up their lower supports or targets.
That is how Y/N found herself in Bucky’s life. She waltzed in on a Tuesday. Bucky was trying to pull off yet another annoying prank on Sam- one where he would end up covered in feathers for the day- when she and Hill walked into the room and onto the exact spot and the wrong time. Needless to say, it was a lasting first impression. Hill had seen to it that Bucky was read the riot act while Natasha helped Y/N clean up and get settled. Wanda followed behind but not before warning Bucky of who he just pissed off.
So that is how the last few months have gone. Bucky and Y/N had been in a “take no prisoners” prank war since the first day and only the team were the ones losing.
The final straw occurred at the rehearsal dinner the night prior. The team had all set up a small, intimate dinner to help relax the bride and groom before their big day. Gifts and toasts were given and stories told amongst the friends. Tony had even put together what he was calling “Sam and Maria’s love story” in a video of clips he had of them from over the years. As the video began, a sly grin spread over Bucky’s face. Suddenly the format of the video changed to show Y/N dancing and singing terribly off key and into what looked like a hairbrush. Y/N gasped as she glanced at Tony. who looked just as stunned by the image on the screen. When it changed to show her trying to learn a new form of fighting with Natasha and Clint, only to fall, again and again, she became embarrassed. The music that played only with the clips seems to make light of her downfalls and turn them into a comedy sketch.
Y/N glanced around the small group to see most of them trying to hold back their laughter, only Natasha, Maria, and Wanda seemed to be concerned about her feelings. She looked to Bucky and just as her eyes landed on him, he burst into a fit of laughter; causing the others to do the same. Deep appalled and embarrassed, Y/N stood up and ran from the room. Wanda stood to follow her but not without leaving a parting gift with all that were laughing; images of their more embarrassing moments played in their minds. The only one not affected was Clint who had somehow learned to control his mind around her over the years. But the glare her received from Natasha was enough to stop his guffawing as well.
Once an hour had gone by without any of the women returning, Bucky decided he may have taken his prank too far and went to find Y/N to apologize. What he found instead broke him all over again. Y/N was in her room; Natasha, Maria, and Wanda all trying to console her; but she was too distraught. Just standing at her door, Bucky could felt the waves of self-hate and disgust she felt in herself. It nearly brought him to his knees. Just as he was about to walk away, he heard her voice squeak out, “Why does he hate me so much?”
“Oh, hunny, he doesn’t hate you.” Maria tried to calm her upset friend. Y/N had become like a little sister to Maria over the years, one that she was very close to due to knowing all that had been done to her in her past. Y/N’s upbringing and life had not been without its challenges. She had an abusive stepfather who used her talents to his own ends and treated her like a freak. She had been very young when her mother had died and Y/N never knew her real father. She was left in the hands of those who didn’t know how to care for her and didn’t care to learn either. The Avengers was the first time Y/N had ever felt accepted for who and what she was and cared for. Safe even.
“Oh, he does. Trust me. He has hated me since day one. I guess I’m too much of a freak or a reminder of his past to be worthy of his friendship. Guess I will always be seen as a traitor in his eyes. What sucks is, Hydra never even got their hands on me. At least then I could blame them for his hate of me. But this is just who I am, who I was born. How can someone… anyone… who went through what he has, hate someone for something they have no control over?” Y/N asked, soft sobs breaking her voice up at points. Each word and soft sob tore at Bucky’s heart. He began to move away and rounded the corner of the hallway only to find Wanda standing there.
“You need to fix this or what Hydra put you through for decades will look like child’s play compared to what I will do. Y/N is my friend… no, she is my sister, and she deserves better than you hatred and terror.”
Bucky glanced down in shame. “I don’t hate her. I… I never did. She… she um…” Bucky gapped as he tried to find the right words. Wanda stepped up to him and gazed into his eyes. Finding emotions there she had never seen prior she reached up and slowly gestured with her hand towards his head. With a nod, Bucky gave his silent consent and Wanda reached into his mind to find memories of Y/N from Bucky’s view. The way she smiled and how at peace she could seem while in the garden at certain times of the day. How she had calmed and softly reassured a family during a recent mission. How bubbly she was during a visit by the Warriors 3 and Darcy Lewis, while they all enjoyed showing the Asgardians some pleasures of “Midgard” such as popcorn and candy and movies.
Wanda gasped as she pulled her hand back. “You like her?” Bucky shook his head. “But what about all that… and the pranks?”
“I don’t like her Wanda. I think I may love her…. I haven’t felt like this is so long, if ever. But she’s too good... Too perfect… for me to mess up with all my issues. So I try to stay away from her. But then she pranks me and I get annoyed. Then I guess…” Bucky leads off
“Your pride is hurt and you get embarrassed so you prank her back.” Wanda starts to giggle at the situation she has discovered. “You know it seems that all this pranking is almost a game of hair pulling. Bucky are you… flirting with Y/N? With the pranks I mean.”
Bucky gasped. “No! She is… I am… I mean…” Then Bucky stopped and thought back over the last few months and how he seemed to never be able to walk away from her. He enjoyed their ongoing war because he knew it would allow him another chance to be near her. As a blush filled his cheeks, Wanda guffawed.
“Now I know I’m right. And that means you need to make this right. And fast! Nat and Hill are two seconds from killing you just in her name. And don’t get me started on what she wants to do to you.” Wanda winks at the older soldier.
Bucky shakes his head. “But how? How do I fix this? Wanda, I need help. I really messed up this time and I don’t think…”
“Alright calm down old timer.” Wanda teased as she patted him in the arm. “I do this and you owe me, got it?” Bucky nodded silently, willing to agree to anything she wants if it means he can undo this mess he has created. “And you have to do as I say… Exactly as I say.”

Sam could hear the bells beginning to ring and knew that meant it was time to head to the altar. He looked around the room and saw most of the Avengers ready to get the event started. But he was missing one person. He had been reluctant to include Bucky in the wedding party, not to mention as one of his groom’s men but he caved as soon as he saw Maria’s eyes twinkle with unshed tears and her lip pout out. She had him wrapped around her finger and he knew it, but he didn’t care because at the end of today she would be his wife and that was all that mattered to him.
Sam turned to Steve. “Where the hell is Barnes? We need to get started. Why did I think he would take this seriously? He can’t do anything serious!”
Steve calmed Sam down. “Wanda asked me to send him to check on something for her and the girls. He is here and ready. We just gotta find him, that’s all. Let’s go.” Steve moved out of the small area the men had been assigned to get ready in and started for the main area of the church. “The girls are this way so I’ll check with them and see if they still have him. You check that way and see if he is helping with the guests as they arrive.” Steve pointed over his shoulder then towards the front area of the church, instructing Sam on their mission directions. As Steve made his way down a hall towards the back of the church, Sam huffed out a sigh and started for the front of the church. He smiled at a few guests already in their seats and thanked them for attending. He was just about to pass through the main doors when he heard a giggle from behind him. He turned to go towards the giggle that was followed by a husky shushing sound now. As he drew close to the office space used by the preacher, he heard a deep male voice state, “Gotta keep you quiet or we’ll be caught!”
“Would that be so bad? Could get the news out faster.” a sweet voice purred back.
A sound that was a mix of a husky growl and a warm chuckle followed the inquiry. “Yes but pretty sure a few of them would not like where I’ve had my hands... Or lips… or my tongue… so not wanting that lecture right this moment, Doll.”
As soon as Sam heard that last word, he knew exactly was in the room. Or at least one occupant. He was only seeing red as he pushed the door open and shouted “Barnes!”
He was met with the image of the brunette out of time soldier, decked out in a form-fitting blue suit. The jacket, which was hanging slightly off his shoulders, had black lapels on it and a white rose boutonniere that was hanging on for its dear life. The only issue was how he was standing and the location of his hands.
Bucky’s hands were planted firmly around Y/N waist as he stood leaning over her, pressing her into the preacher’s office desk. Her stunning black pencil dress that seemed to flow with each of her curves was slightly bunched up as she held her leg up around Bucky’s waist. Her limber legs with her killer high heels seemed to pin him to her. One of her hands was buried in his hair as she had her arms wrapped around him and the other was tugging his suit jacket down off of him. Her ruby red lipstick was smeared across Bucky’s lips and chin, showing that the two had been in this rather heated position for some time.
Sam shouted as he went to cover his eyes. “Seriously?! Barnes! For the love of God... not in church.”
Bucky and Y/N giggled as they started to right themselves. Y/N turned to Sam as she fixed her hair and lipstick. “Teach you to come into a room before knocking. Now, how’s about we get you married. May make you a bit more fun again.”
Bucky chuckled as he followed her out the room. Sam stopped him at the door with a hand on his shoulder. “What can I say? She’s got a point. You ready?”
Bucky moved out of the room and left Sam starring at the spot he had caught the two lovers before. “I will never unsee that. Or understand those two.”
