" well that's good because I have a lot more coming your way. " bringing him food wasn't exactly the best habit. it was an excuse to be in his vicinity , but what was the harm in that ? for now, maybe a whole lot of work wasn't getting done -- but her mind had definitely drifted away from the pressures and concerns the femme had placed on herself. nothing had to be perfect now. they had literally all the time in the world, she'd figure it out and he'd keep effortlessly inspiring her along the way. a soft laugh followed his words as she pictured the scene in her head. the idea of them erupting into sides was farfetched. even in their worst of arguments they pulled together -- they all knew how to put the group before themselves. even when they fought it was more in a family mentality that always found quick resolve even if it took serena guiding little conversations to help find it. as he spoke her eyes went a bit wide for a moment, head actually lifting to look in his direction. was that what he would think if she said something ? that she only cared because he was around, an option ? if the world snapped back to normalcy tomorrow, she'd still choose him. " no it's not that ! " the words blurted out in frustration faster than she could realize they were even being spoken. her chestnut hues blinked in shock of her own outburst for a moment. " what I mean is, well I think if it were me -- I. " smooth, very. " I'd be with you regardless of this world, not because of it. I think anyone would be lucky to be. " saying those words was more painful than she expected, eyes dropped back down fixated on the object she was toying with -- desperate to be distracted by something. her entire being wanted to get rid of the hypothetical and just blurt out what she was really thinking. at the same time, the conversation was reenforcing why she couldn't. if that made things uncomfortable or it meant losing him in someway, she wouldn't be able to stand it. " we're going to be careful. things are going well here, it's only going to get easier. you should be with someone, you'd be good at it. " she wanted to believe her own words but if she had to consider seeing him with someone else --- that was harder than some hoard of undead. he deserved it though, to have what he wanted -- be happy.

"the parallels between Bruce and the robins all becoming orphans young" ok that's nice but the parallels between Bruce and Cass both having lost their innocence after being confronted with death at 8 years old. The way they both have let the grief, the guilt, the impotence haunt them ever since and transformed it into more. The way they both, though in different ways, lost their parent(s). The way that the traumatic instances (and their upbringing until then) couldn't have been more different, yet it affected them so similarly and are the pillars for their current moral code and suicidal tendencies. Can't think about them too much or I go insane

Remember that every time you use your mobility aid in public, there is very likely another person there who is too apprehensive to use their own mobility aid and feels braver from seeing you use yours.

[start id: a black and white drawing cropped from p.29 of the Usborne Guide to Computer and Video Games (1982). The image shows a chessboard with lights and mechanical arm built in.
Image caption reads: "The robot arm on this chess-board makes all the computer's moves, and removes your pieces when the computer captures them. If the computer loses the game, it flings its arm about, flashes its lights and shrieks." end id.]
I assumed this emotionally dysregulated chess robot was just a 1980s fever dream, but apparently it exists, and glories in the name of "The Novag Robot Adversary":
Quoth the gorgeously Web 1.0 (but still updating in 2023?!) Chess Computer UK:
The Novag Robot Adversary is the most iconic of chess computers. There are several reasons. Firstly, for a product of 1982, its startling futuristic appearance. Secondly the robot arm which in terms of robotic character, comparative speed and range of movement is extraordinary for a consumer product. Thirdly the variety of functions - including autoplay, automatic setting up of the pieces for a new game, trace and review, best move, sound, lights, printer support, and not forgetting the tantrums produced by the ‘emotions’ button which involve waving of the arm, flashing lights and noisy sound. These functions all contribute towards a very impressive and entertaining machine, which was outstanding when it was first sold, and has not been bettered since.
That page also has videos of the machine in action, including this heart-rending footage of it losing its shit:
I am inordinately happy to learn about this.
