Alright friendies, I was suuuuuper late to watching Be My Favorite, episode 10 yesterday, and I write this to you in the twilight of a hotel bathroom while my kids are sleeping, HA (writing meta on a road trip is a thing, I tell ya, but it's GOTTA BE DONE!). And the other issue is that I haven't fully caught up on all the meta for this episode floating around, so I apologize in advance, because I should be citing all the friends, but let me instead just summarize what I THINK is happening on Tumblr, thanks to the GODDESS, @lurkingshan, who was updating me yesterday.
I think that there's differing thoughts on that last scene of intimacy and how we got there, and what exactly Kawi's hesitation is all about. I'm going to posit Some Theory Stuff, but overall -- I think this was a FANTASTIC episode, still keeping up with the intentionality of what this series has previously established (we'll disagree a touch, @lurkingshan, but not by too much, because I don't think this episode got Jittirained -- thank goodness for the "inspired by" caveat in the opening title sequence), and I screenshot some bits of this episode to accompany this ramble, so let's boogie.
I think the first giveaway of the intentionality of this episode was the framing of the three main parents of this series giving their kids either advice and/or feedback and/or evidence of their own changes in their own lives that made them happier and/or better people.
In Kawi's dad's instance: we know he will pass, and he knows he has a chance at passing. He tells Kawi: stop holding your life back for me. Move forward and live.
In Pear's dad's instance: he says, listen, I was angry at your mom for a long time. The way that I moved forward, and became stronger, was to forgive. That's a hell of a piece of advice for a young adult -- and we see Pear taking that advice when she speaks with Kawi and Pisaeng, and being the badass we knew she could be. Pear's dad also utters this line, which I think sets the theme and tone for the rest of the episode -- and, of course, the rest of the series.
Tumblr media
In Pisaeng's mom's instance: we see Pisaeng essentially demanding that his mom be happy for him. I actually thought this was a really smart and interesting scene. Many of you know I analyze these shows from an Asian/filial piety lens, and I actually thought, in that scene -- I was like, damn, Pisaeng is talking like a Westerner here. And I liked that -- I liked that Pisaeng was standing up for his happiness as a tangible emotion, and daring his mother to meet him where he was at.
I also thought the interplay and flashbacks between Pisaeng's mom and Kawi were really smart. I believe there's some meta out there theorizing that they MAY have been in a crystal ball moment, which I will definitely not rule out, because the full content of that call between Kawi and Pisaeng's mom was still a touch unresolved and a little confusing -- but I am going to assume it was intentional until proven otherwise. High hopes.
Okay, so we then get to the hesitation bit, the bit with Kawi and Max talking about sex, the breakfast congee, the theme park, the dinner date, and the night-night woo woo. And then the before-credit wrap-up of Kawi's call to Pisaeng's mom, and the (I think) unreliable preview to the very anticipated episode 11 next week.
Here's my Big Theory: I think this entire episode, including all the parental feedback, was rooted in a Big Krist Macro-Level Commentary about Krist's past in BL, particularly by way of his extremely clear hesitation in intimacy in the SOTUS franchise with Singto Prachaya. If BMF, inspired by Jittirain's original novel, was designed to include such huge references to Krist's past career, including his many fumbles, I would posit that this episode was the encapsulation of many, if not all, of those threads.
a) I think Kawi's talk with Max goes into Krist's hesitation about intimacy on screen.
b) During the breakfast congee scene, including Pisaeng's wiping Kawi's mouth, I got STRONG Kongpob/Arthit vibes. Those morning breakfasts at that little table! (I will admit, as I said to @lurkingshan yesterday: I benefit from my Old GMMTV Challenge in these current analyses, because I so recently just WATCHED Krist's old shows.)
Kongpob was randy, y'all. (SINGTOOOOOOOO.) So is Pisaeng. (GAWINNNN!!!!) And Arthit just never quite caught up -- and Krist was out there wiping his damn mouf after those kisses. I posit that Kawi's playing the clean-up hitter here after all those strike-outs.
c) So during the theme park scene, I was laughing, because yes -- who actually goes to eat at a theme park, unless you're going to Disneyland to eat the turkey leg (amirite). BUT: as that scene went on, I thought that it might have served as a metaphor for Krist's career in BL. In other words: when you're at a theme park, you gotta ride the rides, right?
When you're at a theme park -- you gotta theme park. When you're in a BL, Krist.... you gotta BL. Somehow, someway. You gotta play the game.
And Kawi walks away from the rides, huffing. Pisaeng follows him. Pisaeng keeps trying to be romantic. And Kawi says:
Tumblr media
Oh dear, my dude.
d) Dinner scene. Pisaeng is taking the blame for Kawi's bad mood. Pisaeng's not sure what else to do.
Kawi is at a precipice, and he knows it. He knows that sex is important to Pisaeng through Kawi's previous discussion with Max. Max has explained -- okay, if TWO people are not into it, then holding hands is okay. But if ONE person IS into it, you will have imbalance. AND: you will not know that you MIGHT like it IF you don't try it.
I think the impact of Kawi's decision to let intimacy in was referenced in this shot -- which I just thought was fucking brilliant.
Tumblr media
Kawi looks for a second at the table next to them -- a man sitting alone, having his dinner. I just thought...that was so great. A Krist analysis in this moment is a bit of an extrapolation, but going back to Kawi: I think Kawi recognizes, vis à vis the past parental feedback that he got from his dad, that his life WILL be impacted if he holds himself back any longer. I think that's a gorgeous message. (And, honestly, it does actually apply to Krist and his return to BL, so there we go.)
e) Bedroom scene. Pisaeng asks.
Tumblr media
To me, this is the encapsulation of what didn't -- or maybe even COULDN'T -- happen in Krist's past career in BL. And I think Kawi, and Krist, take a huge leap here, and I think Kawi proves to himself that change can happen in his life, and possibly make his life better. And I think, again, that that's also a metaphor for Krist's own career in BL -- that taking risks can produce great art from his acting, a skill of his that many of us fans questioned for so damn long.
Just to wrap this up quickly, I think there was some commentary out there about Pisaeng's original intentions during the first time he enters Kawi's bedroom. Kawi finding the condoms did remind me of Pharm finding Dean's condoms in Until We Meet Again (that show is always on my mind now, like Bad Buddy), and I think Pisaeng's mom explains enough to Kawi by way of whether or not Pisaeng was acting "differently," if you will. Pisaeng's mom said to Kawi -- dude, what the hell do you think Pisaeng is getting at, don't overthink this, lol.
Again, I posit that Pisaeng is playing a kind of Kongpob stand-in here by way of randyness, and I'm not sure it's out of character for Pisaeng. The man communicated that he has his needs! So did Kongpob. And Krist's playing the faen who's gotta catch up to that, in both instances. And we ultimately see the different ways in which Krist's characters handle that pressure.
I'm really excited for next week, and I will hang out with everyone on the sidelines of gentle hesitation that this show can stick its landing. But that being said: I really thought this episode was great, and I posit that it didn't falter from its intentionality in its macro-level intelligence. This show's fucking great.

Emoticons- Javy
It started as an innocent crush. You were Jake’s girlfriend after all. Javy couldn’t like you. It was bro code. But he saw the way Jake had started to neglect you. Javy saw how it affected you. Jake didn’t take you out as much, wasn’t putting an effort into the relationship anymore. Maybe it was because you had changed, three years is a long time. When you reached out to Javy, confided in him something clicked. The two of you clicked. Talking daily, whether it be a text or phone call. One night after a party, after everyone had crashed and fallen asleep, you and Javy sat on the couch talking. You rambled about how Jake hasn’t touched you in forever, how he barely even had meaningful conversation with you anymore. Javy couldn’t bear to hear the sadness in your voice.
“I could give you that.”
Your heart skipped a beat that night. Javy knew it was wrong when he kissed you, but he couldn’t help himself. He needed you to know how he felt. And there was only one thing going through his mind. The edge of nowhere’s such a beautiful.
Give Me A Try- Jake
You captivated Jake as soon as he saw you. Javy even made fun of him for it, saying that he was acting like a “love struck fool”. But that was exactly what Jake was. He was a love struck fool for you. You did not make it easy for him though. It’s like he is a salesman, trying to sell himself to you. He knew he wasn’t the most desirable person, his ego getting ahead of him most days. He knew that the two of you could be gigantic though, the power couple people only dreamed of.
“Try again, Seresin.”
Those two words teased him every week. Every time he asked you for a date. The risk would be worth the reward though. One day you were dismissed early, rain ruining the day of flight training and testing. You were getting ready to leave when he stopped you. You could tell he was at his wits end with you, the exact thing you wanted.
“Just give me a try.”
That’s when you give in, taking the best risk of your life.
Greek Tragedy- Bob
It had been months since you last saw him. He was your high school sweetheart, your one and only. You gave him a form of ecstasy that nobody else could. The last few deployments had started getting to you though. They had been getting to him too. The many lonely nights not knowing how he is or where he was. Bob knew it was starting to affect you. The relationship you two had was starting to turn into a Greek tragedy of sorts. When he was at home it was like everything melted away though. Both of your worries evaporated, your emotions wrapping the two of you into a cocoon.
“I’m just tired of falling up Penrose steps.”
He knew what you meant. That sense of comfort being stripped away every time he left, he felt it too. But the two of you wanted to make it work. The two of you were going to make it work. You two were going to work through this Greek tragedy.
Be Your Shadow- Bradley
It was unconventional, the two of you knew that. A purely sexual thing is what it was. Needing to blow off steam every now and then, Bradley would fuck you. Fucked you well too.  It was an unspoken rule, no feelings. But that didn’t stop either of you. Bradley had started to find a type of solace in you, in the moments the two of you shared before and after each romp. He wasn’t sure when he started to realize he wanted more, but he did. Bradley wanted to be more than the person who choked you during sex, making your eyes roll back in pleasure. He wanted to be there for you all the time, the one you woke up to and said good night to when you curled up at night.
“I just want to be the sum of your broken parts.”
Passion is what that night was full of, Bradley worshiping you in a way you had never seen. From that point on Bradley was more than your creature of the night. Bradley was your everything, he was your shadow.
Headspace- Reuben
Reuben had always kept a bit more to himself. It wasn’t that he didn’t get along with anyone, he got on well with everyone he trained and worked with. He never found himself seeking out anyone, except Mickey. Mickey was different. So when you started to be a constant in his mind it was a touch worrying. You were the only thing on his mind. It was starting to cause issues, making him space out. You hadn’t fully noticed the attention from Reuben. He was a reversed person to begin with, so reading his emotions was hard.
“Fuck!”
Reuben slammed his hand against the steering wheel. Mickey jumped, having rarely seen Reuben angry to this degree. It felt like a warzone inside of him. After apologizing for scaring Mickey, Reuben drove to the hard deck. He wanted to forget, he needed you out of his headspace.

Chapter 17: Olive Garden
*This wasnt the best situation by any means, but at least there werent going to be any expensive bills or visits out in public. At least not to the hospital, you had managed to keep up with Edward, meeting up with him the next week after the first attempt.
This gave Edward ample time to hide all of his oddest possessions and to rent out another spare space at a different hotel, just to store his more hirrfying items. In the meantime you and Bruce had spoken a little more, mostly relating to your injuries though. He had been very kind during this time after, wondering if the event had actually stirred any sort of emotion from him.
Getting ready you looked in the mirror, your small cuts mostly just scars now, fading back into obscurity against your skin.
The black eye you had gotten would prove to be difficult to cover up, but that didnt matter, Edward would still lovingly accept you. Adjusting your hair and outfit one more time, you walked to meet Bruce in the kitchen. Alfred had been busy dealing with a recent roach infestation in the basement area, so he was unavailable. Leaving you and Bruce to ride out, he guided you to the car youd been using for work. Following behind you jumped into it with him, texting edward once again and you relaxed into the passenger seat, covering your face with sunglasses.
**Edward had been worried sick that night you canceled. It made his insides twist and turn in endless knots, the anxiety of you being sick worried him.
God knows what he was going to say when he would see your face.
You had texted him throughout the following week, updating him on how your day was going or telling him about your latest conversation with Jenna. He still got butterflies every time you texted him or better yet, when you would call him. He could listen to you talk for hours and a few of those days he had.
You had rambled in about your high school days, when you’d lived with your parents in a smaller apartment growing up.
Just spilling it all out for him to hear, unaware he’d already known the stories of your twisted ankle in 9th grade and how you had failed your geometry final.
But he loved it all, it sounded so heavenly listening to you speak to him about the most intimate details of your upbringing.
Now he was setting a small table in his living room, covering the wooden top with a clean white sheet and setting out the plates for you to use. You were still planning on the movies after, but he wanted to do something special to make you feel better after being sick last week.
Edward ordered some pasta and a bottle of wine from the local Olive Garden, setting the table up and waiting for you to knock on his door.
*Still heading down towards the hotel, you turned to Bruce. You studied his features as he drove, he had put up the hood of his jacket and stayed low, careful to avoid press. Of course he had learned this while growing up a recluse, avoiding anyone and everyone. You sat up a little, leaning away from the window and adjusting your jacket.
“Bruce..?” You choked out, even after spending the last few weeks knowing him, you still found it hard to form words around him.
“Y/n.” He returned flatly.
“I’m sorry..” you sighed looking down at your hands, finding it easier to speak to him. “I’m really sorry about all of this, if I would’ve known the press would react like that. Or that I could’ve just asked you or Alfred to take me.” Tears started to form but you blinked them away. “I would’ve just returned that text.” You huffed and he was silent for a moment before opening his mouth.
“I should’ve just called,” he shrugged, relaxing his hold on the steering wheel. “I should be apologizing for this mess. But neither of us saw this happening.” He offered a polite smile for a moment.
You nodded in agreement and looked back up out the window. “We’re almost here.” He said pulling up to the streetlight before the hotel's entrance.
“Be safe, and please call Alfred when you need a ride home.” Bruce seemed concerned but it was polite and quite nice to know someone would be waiting for you.
“Of course, Thank you, Bruce.” You smiled and looked up to him, grabbing your small bag and headed out of the car and hurried into the lobby.
Rushing up to the elevator you removed your sunglasses and relaxed your nerves. Ron had greeted you when you entered and you were pleased to know he was going to be standing guard. Walking into the shaft you felt a flutter of anxiety about your meeting with Edward. You didn’t want to hear a lecture and hoped he would move past the subject entirely. As the doors opened and you exited, you wandered down to Edwards room, knocking on his door.
**Edward jumped at the sound, giddy as he peeked into the hole and opened the door for you. “Y/n!” He giggled but it was cut off when he saw the bruise around your eye. Instantly a sharp pain stabbed his heart, who would dare do this to you? He wondered as he studied your face turn a flushed rose color.
“H-Hey..” you had stuttered out. “W-What happened?” He was quick to usher you inside, his eyes never leaving the mark. “Oh nothing, the mansion has a ton of steps.” You chuckled.
He relaxed at the joking nature, surprised but happy you were in good spirits still. “Oh my god, you poor thing.” He leaned down to gently brush the skin, causing you to wince at his graze. He gasped and turned red, “sorry!” He apologized profusely, but you stopped him. You had noticed the romantic set up and had gently grabbed his hand smiling at him.
“Edward.. you did all this for me?” You sounded surprised, and almost as giddy as he had first been. This took him from his apologies and he turned to the set up, forming a small smile on his lips. “Of course I did.” He sighed happily and gently led you to the table, pulling your chair out.
You sat down and he pushed you back in, opening the bottle of wine and pouring it into your glass.
“I’ve been waiting a long time for this.” You breathed out, the soft lighting from the room showed your eyes looking to his green ones. He smiled and leaned in on the table, “ Me too, you have no idea..” he purred and with that you giggled and began to fill him in on the events that had happened after leaving the hotel.
He listened intently and you continued to drink and mingle, teasing each other all the while. This was a dream come true for him, you really were perfect.
You had been following his plans without him even telling you. That’s what led you here, in this moment, drinking wine and spilling stories with him, Edward Nashton.

April Showers Day 1: Pissing in someone's lap
MINORS DNI
Warnings: dom genitals ambiguous gn (accidental sugar daddy?) reader, sub Beelzebub, piss, feminization, bit of dumbification i think, handjob, mentions of switch reader + switch beel
This is a bit of a continuation of this
Earlier this week, Asmo dragged you and Beelzebub out shopping with him, claiming he needed help with picking things out and carrying bags. Beel wasn’t doing anything and was promised food so he easily agreed, meanwhile you tagged along simply because he was going.
Curiosity getting the better of you, later in the week you head back to investigate what he was looking at. All the lingerie he seemed absorbed by is in his size, and remembering that Beel had been upset when you’d ruined his last bra you put the pieces together very quickly and made up your mind to purchase the items that caught his eye. Once out of the store you take your purchases back to the house of Lamentation, eager to see how Beel will look in what you got for him.
During your trip the three of you found yourself in a lingerie store, which is not entirely shocking as you’re following around the Avatar of Lust.
Between being forced to give your opinion on which things looked the best on Asmo, you watched Beel run his hands over some of the pieces in the store- looking at them with the same interest he gives a newfound favorite food. You took note of the lingerie that he seemed into, yet unfortunately before you could look at them yourself, Asmo was dragging you all to the next store.
Back in your room you set the bag on your bed and send him a message instructing Beelzebub to come over.
He comes quickly (regardless of the fact that you specified there would be no food). You greet him with a kiss, locking the door behind the two of you.
“What’s up?” he asks, causing your eyes to flick to the bag. Beel follows your gaze, his eyes widening just a bit at recognition of the brand.
“Um,” you begin, now a bit nervous with him in front of you, “earlier this week, when we were shopping with Asmo, you looked, I mean you were looking at some of the things in the store, and you looked really, uh, interested, y’know? And a while ago we ruined your other stuff. So I…” you trail off, “I bought the things you were looking at?” it comes out like a question, “... in case you wanted them.” An awkward finish to an awkward moment. Your cheeks are ablaze as you await his response.
Beel is- unsurprisingly, not very emotive, leaving you to stew in your anxiety for a bit until he clears his throat.
“That’s really nice,” he says, offering a small smile, “thank you.” You feel a wave of relief crash over you,
“Oh phew, I didn’t know if you were going to like that I did that or not, cause I didn’t know if you actually wanted them or if you were just looking, and of course I could return them if you don’t like them, and-” you realize you’re rambling, so you let out a heavy breath and start anew. “Do you want to try them on?”
Beel looks at the bag, biting his lip to hide a smile. He nods, then looks back at you, “can I?”
“Of course baby, I got them for you,” you reassure, feeling much more confident and composed now that he seems to be enjoying himself.
You usher Beelzebub, who’s clutching onto the bag of lingerie, into your bathroom. With a kiss you leave him to his devices and go to sit on the comfy armchair you have, awaiting his return.
He’s in there for a bit, you briefly wonder if he’s okay, but just when you feel the urge to ask, the bathroom door opens.
Out comes Beel, now wearing a bustier, matching panties, and the look tied all together with a garter and thigh highs.
He looks a bit shy, though mostly pleased, with a small smile and flushed cheeks. “I feel so pretty in this,” he confesses quietly, running his hands along his body. You find your voice, looking into his eyes,
“You look pretty, you look-” you motion for him to come over, and he does in quick strides, “shit you look gorgeous baby,” Beelzebub grins at the compliment, bringing his hands to rest near his chest as he so often does. You eye him up and down, taking in the view.
Just looking isn’t enough so you motion him closer. With a bit of hesitancy he lowers himself down in your lap, so you can move from undressing him with your eyes, and start with undressing him with your hands. A sense of deja vu comes over you.
“I really love when you say that,” he says in response to your praise, as if you couldn’t already tell. You place your hands on his chest, running over the exposed part of his chest that’s pushed up by the bra. “Look at how nice your tits look in this,” you mutter, to yourself mostly, but Beel looks down all the same, following your directions. You cup his pecs over the bra next, completely entranced by his chest. You give him quite a bit of attention there- how could you not, yet slowly you move your hands lower, passing his already hard cock (for now) down to pet his stocking covered thighs.
“You like when I call you pretty.” It’s not a question, but he nods anyways, letting out a shaky breath as you rub circles into his inner thighs. “My pretty girl, dressing up for me again, just to show me how good you look in the things I got for you,” his pupils expand at your words and his legs twitch against your touch. “Are you going to thank me for buying you something so nice?” he nods, slow and docile as he relaxes into your caresses.
You hum, then think for a moment about how you want the night to go. “Good girl, you’ll thank me for these,” you snap the elastic at the top of the socks gently. “That can wait for a bit though, because I can feel you getting comfortable on me. You like sitting on my lap?” Beel again nods slowly, “yeah, that’s where you belong isn’t it? All you’ve got to do right now is look pretty for me, you don’t even have to think, just look gorgeous while you sit on me.” Beelzebub moans softly at your words, grinding his hips languidly against you. “Just relax, pretty girl,” your gentle, soft voice, mixed with heavy petting guiding him into an almost trance-like state.
He nods again, his eyes fluttering shut. You lean in and capture his mouth in an open mouth kiss. Between wet, sloppy kisses the two of you let out moans as Beelzebub slowly, teasingly grinds his cock against you.
At some point he pulls away to catch his breath, shoving his face into your neck so you can now clearly hear the whimpers of your name, the soft curses that pass his lips, and his heavy- near panting, breaths.
Then, you feel something hot and wet spread along your lap. Looking down you see the liquid is coming from Beelzebub- he’s pissing on you.
“Ohh,” you coo, “you lost control of your bladder baby girl,” you state the obvious and Beelzebub pulls his head out of your neck to look down with mild intrigue. He hums, grinding into the wetness that’s quickly accumulated on your lap.
“You didn’t even notice did you?” you ask, pulling his hair out of his flushed face. With a soft sigh Beelzebub finishes wetting himself on you before he shakes his head, “cute,” you mumble.
“‘S not gross?” he asks softly, his words slurring just enough for you to notice.
“No, no,” you rush to assure, letting the hand that’s not playing with his hair come down to peel the soaked panties down, tucking them under his balls and revealing his hard, wet cock. “Not gross at all baby girl, you’re still so pretty,” Beelzebub gives you a little smile at that, clearly pleased that he’s still pretty in your eyes. You wrap a hand around his piss covered dick, feeling it twitch in your hand.
“Sensitive girl,” you comment, stroking him slowly, “did wetting your new clothes on my lap turn you on so much?” it’s a rhetorical question but Beel answers with a nod of his head regardless. “Now you’re all messy,” Beel whines, “but still so pretty,” you reassure.
The wetness from his piss is starting to cool on your clothes, making you just a bit uncomfortable.
“You got me all messy too,” you point out after a moment, "I think you'll have to clean me up."
"With- uh, with my mouth?" He asks gripping onto your shirt as you continue to jerk him off.
"Yes princess," he starts leaking pre, "I’m surprised you figured that out on your own. Didn’t need your master to tell you what to do, you figured that out on your own,” Beel moans, closing his eyes. “I'll have you lick your pee off me,” you continue, “and eat me out too if you're lucky," he lets out a high pitched whine, "but let me take care of you first, because you'd just get distracted if I left you with this," you squeeze his dick, and he cries out your name, his eyes snapping back open.
"Yuh-ah, yes master," he agrees. You quicken your pace, getting excited at the thoughts of Beel between your legs. Speaking of legs: his are twitching and clenching around you as he sloppily grinds into your fist.
“After you've cleaned me up and eaten me out," you begin, just barely catching his attention considering how lost in pleasure he is right now, "do you want to put your pretty piss dick inside me?” you ask easily. Beel lets out some sort of half groan, half moan, half whimper type noise, jerking his hips into your hand.
“Please, please master,” he begs, pre leaking from his dick like a faucet.
"Alright pretty girl, then hurry up and cum for me," and he does. Just like that, cum shoots from him. Though this time you avoid ruining his lingerie, by catching it in your hand. You feel exhilarated from the power you have over him, from the way he listens so well for you. “Good girl” you praise accordingly. Beelzebub jerks and shudders atop of you, clenching onto you like a lifeline as he rides through the waves of pleasure.
You remove your filthy hand- covered in his piss and cum, once he goes flaccid in your hand, a small whimper passing his lips as you do.
You bring that hand, as messy as it is, to Beel’s mouth. “You can start by cleaning off my hand,” you instruct. He’s all too happy to comply, letting his tongue loll out of his mouth so he can sloppily suck, lick, and slurp the slurry of cum and piss from your hand.
When he’s gotten you “clean,” he kisses your hand softly, looking up at you through his lashes, waiting for your next move.
“C’mon baby,” you take control, patting his thighs and grinning wildly, “time for you to really get to work.” Beel grins back at you, and you know you’re in for a hell of a night ahead of you. You’re more than glad you listened to your gut and bought your baby girl lingerie, even if it was entirely compulsive.

*Kiss Me Sweetly
Tendou x f!reader
Angst with a happy ending, excessive fluff, friends to lovers, smut, dry humping
4.4k words
Tumblr media
The demon of Shiratorizawa had crimson hair and eyes to match. He was tall, composed of long limbs and sharp angles. His eyes were perpetually half-lidded and droopy with dark bags. He had a crooked smile made up of pointed teeth and a silver tongue that frequently got him in trouble with the school staff and students alike.
He wasn’t actually a demon, a nickname branded to him by cruel children in elementary school. He wasn’t a monster either, despite popular belief. Although he had learned to embraced his title as the Guess Monster, even learned to love the respect that came with it from his opponents. In the end, however, Tendou Satori was just tired. Tired of the people at this school, tired of the nicknames that stalked him though the halls, and tired of you.
You, who never stooped to your peers level with half-brained insults and nicknames. You, who had smiled and said hello every time you saw him since elementary. You, who encouraged him to pursue volleyball, the only thing he felt powerful doing. You, who sat through his seemingly endless chatter with an interested smile. You, you, you and your kind smiles, soft words, and gentle curves.
It wasn’t until high school that you started sitting with him at lunch. Eventually lunch transitioned into getting coffee every Monday after school. Then the coffee hangouts progressed to going to your house and reading the latest manga he was interested in every Friday.
Each moment with you was a breath held in anticipation for the other shoe to finally drop. When were you just going to get it all over with and stop acting like you cared about him? Enough of the pity, please. No more shared lunches. Stop giving him your notes when he fell asleep in class. He was exhausted for you.
Sometimes he let himself believe you. That you actually cared for him and enjoyed being around him. He convinced himself that your laughter was genuine when he teased you and made sardonic jokes about the world. He could go months relishing in your friendship before remembering it wasn’t real.
Being around him certainly didn’t benefit you. He had heard plenty of the rumors and he know you did as well.
I heard that he’s so controlling she’s too scared to actually leave him.
We aren’t even together, he thought viciously.
Well, I heard that she only puts up with him because she feels bad. Seriously, who actually wants to hang around that freak .
He wanted to scream that he knew. He knew you pitied him. He wanted you to leave but you never got the goddamn hint. You stuck by his side all through high school and now it was the last day and you were still here. Sitting next to him, sharing his earbuds. You could’ve walked home ages ago, but you were adamant about waiting at the train station until he got picked up.
“You can stop now,” he said, setting you free.
“Hm?” You looked up from your phone. “Oh, do you want to play your music?”
“No, you can leave,” he snapped. “No one is looking at you anymore; no one cares. You don’t have to be here with me.”
“Tendu-chan, I don’t understand,” your pretty lips were turned down in a frown.
“I don’t need you,” he lied. “You don’t have to be here to make me feel better. It’s over, we move on now and we forget about it.”
“What are you talking about?” Your voice was soft, confused.
“I don’t need your pity,” he said, finally getting the words off his chest after all these years. “I know you only stuck around because you felt bad for me. But I don’t need it anymore, high school is over. I don’t need you to hang out with me because you feel bad.”
His eyes were closed, and he relished in the peace of finally, finally spitting it out.
“Is that what you think?”
His eyes snapped open. You were angry? You should be happy. Happy you finally have an excuse to get away. A clear exit.
“Fuck you, Tendou,” you stood up, throwing his headphones at his chest. “That’s what you really think of me? That I just pity you? You think I’m so shallow that I hung around you to make myself feel better? Is that what you think?”
You stopped, sucking in a steadying breath while he stared up at you in shock. Yes, that’s exactly what he had thought.
“I-”
“No,” you cut him off swiftly. “You’ve said enough. I’m leaving. You can talk to me when you get your head out of your ass.”
Tendou watched you walk away until you disappeared around a corner. He had been wrong? But he almost always guessed right… right?
Had he really been so consumed by his self-loathing that he had misread the intentions of the one person who cared the most for him?
“Oh,” he let his head fall back against the bench and stared at the bright sky until his eyes watered.
Not many had witnessed it, but the demon of Shiratorizawa was indeed just a person. A person with emotions, as disguised as they may be. He hid behind this personality he’d crafted. The carefree, loud, perpetually cheerful demeanor that protected him from his peers and their wicked words. It had never protected him from you though. You saw through it as if it were glass, just a window to his misery.
“Oh,” he said again, standing up slowly. “I see now.”
He boarded the train and rested his forehead against the window, watching dark storm clouds creep over the city with the silence of a cat stalking its prey.
How fitting, for it to rain, he thought as the first drops splattered against the window.
—-
After three sharp knocks on your door, Tendou stepped back and held his peace offering close to his chest. He knew you were home because your rust bucket of a Toyota was parked in the driveway. His fingers tapped the plastic bag impatiently and it was nearly impossible to ignore the way his heart jumped when the door cracked open slowly.
“Ah, I see you’ve managed to pull your head free. Was it difficult?” You asked flatly, leaning against the doorframe with your arms crossed.
“Immensely, took Wakatoshi three bottles of lube,” he said earnestly.
You cracked a small smile, eyes flitting to the plastic bag in his arms. You raised an eyebrow as a silent question.
“Can I come in?” He asked. “It’s awfully cold out here, you don’t want me to catch a cold now, eh Y/n-chan?”
“Maybe I do,” you said, stepping aside to let him in.
“How cruel of you!” Tendou gasped, pressing a hand to his chest in feigned offense.
He stepped into your entrance way and you were quickly reminded just how tall he was. His lankiness only made him look taller as he loomed over you, eyebrows drawn together in determination. You stared back, suddenly nervous in the presence of your friend.
“I’m sorry for misjudging you,” he said, intense red eyes still locked on yours. “It was wrong and unfair of me to make such harsh assumptions.”
You weren’t used to him being this serious. He was always intense but the two combined were overwhelming.
“Let’s sit down and eat whatever you’ve brought,” you said, stepping around him to walk to the kitchen. “Then we can talk, yeah?”
He followed so close he accidentally kicked your heels a few times and you could still feel the heat of his gaze on the back of your neck. He set the bag on the table and unpacked the to-go containers.
“It’s from that place you really like,” he said. “By the school.”
“Oh, thank you, Tendou.” You accepted the chopsticks he held out.
Tendou gasped dramatically. “Such formalities, Y/n-chan!”
“Tendu-chan, then,” you corrected yourself.
“Much better,” he said praisingly.
He sat down across from you, eating only a few pieces of chicken before setting his utensils aside. He didn’t say anything, even as you ate your fill. It was clear he was antsy, fingers tapping a staccato beat against the table.
When you finally slid your plate to the side he scooted forward, resting his face in his palms expectantly.
“I forgive you,” you said simply.
Tendou’s signature manic grin took over his entire face and his long fingers tapped a rapid beat on the table in his excitement. Oh, how he had missed you during the two weeks he spent giving you space. He had never realized how much he enjoyed your presence until it abruptly disappeared. Tendou’d also had a few other revelations during the separation.
He said your name softly, so at odds with his typically loud demeanor. He was his most authentic self in your presence, he had come to realize. You looked up from packing up the remaining food and tilted your head.
“We are still friends, right?” He asked with a tinge of nervousness.
“Were we ever?” You countered, not angrily.
“Yes,” Tendou answered quickly, reaching out to grab your hand. “Of course, it was my mistake to ever think otherwise.”
You looked down at his hand on yours and ran a finger over the wrappings he kept on his two fingers. He watched you keenly, fingers twitching at your delicate touch.
“My, my,” he said with a sly grin. “What is little Y/n thinking about?”
You shot him a bland look, dropping his hand pointedly. “You’re disgusting.”
Just like that any tension between the two of you vanished with his boisterous laugh. He wiggled his wrapped fingers in your face enticingly until you smacked them away.
“I brought the latest chapter Shonen Jump,” he said animatedly, reaching into his bag. “I thought we could read it together.”
It was a Friday, after all.
“Sure, let me put this food up,” you said.
Tendou grinned eagerly, bouncing to his feet while you brought the food to the fridge; already talking a mile a minute about a different manga he had just finished. You couldn’t stop the smile that worked its way onto your face, you loved his aimless rambling. Where you more reserved, Tendou was outgoing and could fill any gaps in the conversation you left behind. It worked well for the two of you.
While watching Tendou chatter away you wondered if you had been too harsh at the train station. Clearly there was an underlying insecurity that convinced him you didn’t care about him. Was it his history of bullying? Before you had really gotten to know Tendou, it was hard to imagine him as anything but carefree and untouchable. You knew he would tell you eventually. Perhaps today, perhaps tomorrow. Over the past few years you had found the best way to get Tendou to open up was to say nothing at all, his rambling always ended up on touchy topics anyways.
Tendou held out an earbud for you once you sat down on the couch beside him. You placed it in your ear and smiled when you recognized the playlist the two of you had put together. The only time Tendou could stay quiet longer than five minutes was when he was reading. You settled into the familiar routine, sitting close to him while he angled the pages towards you so you could both read. Tendou was such a fast reader you were forced to learn to speed read as well in order to keep up with him. Now, you were perfectly synchronized.
Today, however, he couldn’t stop glancing over at you. Ugh, he suddenly so acutely aware of everything you did. Every time you shifted to see a panel or readjusted the earbud he felt his heart pickup and he was too aware of every movement he made. His limbs felt too long and awkward, his face felt too warm, and oh my god did he brush his teeth this morning?
Tendou swallowed nervously, for once relieved for the chapter to finally end so he could put some space between your bodies. He stood up abruptly, wincing when the earbud was ripped out of his ear.
“Ow,” you held your ear. “Is something wrong, Tendu-chan?”
“Of course not, dearest Y/N,” he put on his widest grin, bowing down and extending his hand. Fuck, your nickname for him was not helping his nerves. “I was just wondering if you would like to accompany me to the bathroom.”
“Ew, what is wrong with you?” You smacked his hand away.
“Well, you did ask,” he chirped cheerfully before prancing down the hall.
You sighed, replacing the earbud while settling into a more comfortable position. After several minutes you realized Tendou had yet to return. Frowning, you stood up and went to the bathroom to find the door still closed.
“Tendu-chan?” You knocked softly. “Everything okay?”
“Oh, Y/N,” Tendou popped his head out from your bedroom. “I was looking at your photo wall.”
You raised your eyebrows, following him inside. “Yeah? I have quite a few.”
It had been a hobby of yours to have at least three pictures of each of yours friends on your wall since elementary school. Since you started hanging out with Tendou at the beginning of high school, his section had amassed a great deal of photos.
“I forget you’ve never been in here,” you smiled, watching Tendou closely.
You had never seen such an open expression on his face before. His eyes flicked over the photos of him taped to your wall quickly, as if he couldn’t decide which to focus on.
“I didn’t realize,” he said softly.
“Hm?”
He tilted his head back, sliding his eyes to look at you. “I didn’t realize I still had a safe place, a paradise.”
“You’ll always be welcome here, Satori,” you reached out and squeezed his bicep. “I promise.”
“I feel so blind, Y/N,” he closed his eyes, head still tipped back as he took in a slow, study breath. “I thought I had lost everything when volleyball ended. My friends, my passion…”
Crimson eyes locked on your own, the intensity of them so startling you sucked in a sharp breath.
“But I still have you,” Tendou said, slowly turning his body to face yours. “Right?”
“Of course,” you answered.
“Good,” he nodded. “Good.”
His head turned back towards your wall of photos, fingers reaching out to snag at the bottom of one. You looked closer and saw it was a picture of the two of you at one of his games. You had jumped onto his back to hug him and your friend had barely managed to get the shot. The blurry grins on your faces were bright and excited.
“Can I?” He asked, tugging lightly on the corner.
“Take it, I can print a new one.” You said.
He peeled it off carefully and flashed a grin at you.
“Thank you,” he reached out, placing his hand on the top of your head, ruffling your hair messily.
You knocked his hand away and brushed your hair back into place with a huff. Tendou laughed loudly, sprawling backwards onto your bed with a thump. He looked at the picture once more before sliding it into his pocket. He folded his hands behind his head and looked up at you with his signature sleepy smirk.
“Make yourself comfortable, I guess,” you said.
“Aw, you’re so considerate,” Tendou crooned, stretching his arms out until his shirt road up to reveal his toned stomach.
You glanced down at the exposed skin and blushed, looking away quickly. Tendou noticed, of course, and couldn’t stop the mischievous smirk on his face as he reached out and grabbed your hand.
“Tendou-“
“Oh, hush,” he chastised lightly. “I’m just getting you to sit. This is your bed, after all.”
You sat down on the edge, watching as he pulled your hand to his chest. He examined your fingers faintly before weaving his fingers with yours. When your fingers spasmed nervously he gripped them tighter.
“I had a lot of time to think,” he sighed, eyes still fixated on your joined hands, before elaborating. “While we were apart.”
You stayed quiet, waiting for him to continue with bated breath.
“I like you, Y/N,” his eyes seemed to bore straight into your soul.
“Tendu-chan-“ You started to pull your fingers away.
One second you were sitting at the edge of the bed and the next you were pinned beneath Tendou’s body. His breath tickled your lips and his hands kept your arms above your head by the wrists.
“Please, let me say this,” he pleaded, eyes switching between yours and your lips.
“You made high school bearable for me,” he said, pushing up until he was knelt between your legs instead of having you pinned. His hands rested on either side of your ribs. “I didn’t appreciate you enough at the time but-“
His fingers clenched in the sheets. “I do now, I appreciate you so much. Everyone else thought I was a monster, demon, whatever. It doesn’t matter anymore but when it did you were the only one who made it all easier. Does that make sense?”
“What about Ushijima? Your teammates?”
Tendou chuckled, letting his head droop between his shoulders. “Of course them, silly Y/N. They didn’t really have a choice, hm? I was on the team, you don’t really get to pick who’s there. You went out of your way to befriend me, to make sure I was okay before you even knew me.”
You looked up at him, ignoring his little sniffle and the way he rubbed his nose against his sleeve subtly. You sat up slowly while Tendou watched you closely with his head tilted.
“You’re my best friend, you know that right?” You asked softly.
He nodded.
“You will always be welcome in my home and I promise I will always want you around. You’re right, whatever those people used to say about you doesn’t matter. They were needlessly cruel and I wish I could’ve stopped them from hurting you,” you reached up, cupping his cheek gently. “You’re important, Tendu-chan. You’re caring, funny, and genuine. I love hearing about your favorite anime and your coolest blocks. I really do.”
“Ohhh, is little Y/N crying for me?” He cooed, using his sleeve to wipe away the tears gathering on your lashes. “Sweet thing.”
“I’m serious,” you said, letting him wipe your cheeks.
“I know,” he squinted at you. “Will you let me try something?”
From the way his crimson eyes kept flickering down to your lips, you could easily guess what he wanted to try. You nodded mutely, breath catching excitedly as his face drew closer.
The first touch of his lips felt like a static shock. Your eyes fluttered close as he pushed a little closer, experimentally moving his lips against yours. He let out a low groan into your mouth, pushing forward until you were laying down again. The hands that had been by your sides now moved to tangle in your hair and cup your face while his hips settled comfortably between your thighs.
The first brush of his tongue across your bottom lip sent fire licking up your spine which eventually settled as a fluttering warmth in your stomach. Your hands came up to grab his arms, nails leaving shallow crescents on the pale skin of his biceps through his shirt. Parting with a nip to your bottom lip, Tendou licked his lips as he looked down at you.
The sight of your flushed cheeks and kiss-swollen lips sent a thrill of exhilaration through his chest.
“Well?” He asked, a cocky grin smeared across his lips.
It was like you were seeing Tendou in a brand new light. Before he was just your friend. You always knew he was good-looking but now, you were supremely aware of his shapely lips, cut jaw, and broad shoulders. His hips between yours was as intoxicating as the elated look on his face.
“Stop looking so smug,” you huffed, pulling him down to your lips again.
Laughing softly, Tendou happily obliged you in another sensuous kiss that left you dizzy and breathless. He swallowed your gasp when he experimentally rolled his hips into yours.
He pulled back, eyes lidded with a dazed smile, and tilted his head. “Is that okay?”
You nodded eagerly, leaning up to capture him in another kiss. With a sly smirk he pulled out of your reach, head tilted expectantly.
“Yes, Tendou, now please get back to it,” you snapped, secretly appreciative of his need for clear consent.
“There we go,” he murmured, stooping back down with a thorough roll of his hips.
A groan was shared between both of your open mouths as his hips fell into a steady rhythm, slowly undulating against you. Sighing out his name, you let your head fall back while Tendou trailed kisses across your jaw and down to your throat.
“Fuck, Y/N, you’re so perfect,” he murmured breathlessly, leaving wet, open-mouth kisses down the column of your throat. “Feel so good, hah-“
His clothed erection lined up perfectly with your core, sending searing electricity flickering through your stomach. Your hands went from gripping his arms to tangling in his hair, tugging lightly at the crimson strands.
“Haah-ah,” you moaned at a particularly accurate thrust that had his entire length dragging along your clit. “Satori, please.”
“Oh, fuck,” Tendou sighed into your ear, pushing aside your hair so he could hide his face in the warmth of your neck. “You’re so hot, gonna make me cum in my pants. Keep making those pretty noises for me, sweet thing.”
You nodded along eagerly, pulling his head away from your neck so your could attach your lips again. Steady thrusts began to lose their rhythm as both of you got closer to completion. Tendou let out a throaty groan, wrapping his lean arms around you tightly so he could rub his hard-on against your core with more force.
“Satori, ah!” You cried out at the stimulation.
He clashed his mouth against yours messily, teeth clicking while he gasped against your lips.
“M’ close,” he clenched his eyes shut.
“Me too, me too,” you whined, hips writhing up against his desperately. “Satori!” Tendou practically growled at that, mouth claiming yours assertively. You shouted his name again while your orgasm wracked through your body, leaving you sensitive and tingly as Tendou chased his own release. He came with a low moan into your mouth, hips rolling gently through the aftershocks.
When he finally slowed to a stop he went completely slack on top you. Tendou mouthed gently at your neck, fingers petting your hair as you both caught your breath. You released his hair and unclenched your stiff fingers a few times before wrapping your arms around his shoulders.
Curious hands slowly pushed beneath your shirt, tenderly exploring your body while Tendou continued to leave lazy, open-mouthed kisses on your neck. His handsiness didn’t bother you since you were also busy tracing the muscles of his back.
You whined when he landed another quick kiss before pushing off of you.
“I gotta clean up,” he said, darting down to kiss you again.
That reminded you of the uncomfortable dampness in your own pants so you got up as well. You found a pair of sweatpants that he could fit into from your brother and set them by the bathroom door for him. By the time you came back from changing he was already lounging in your bed again, your brother’s sweatpants an inch or two too short  above his ankles.
Tendou’s expression brightened when you walked in, his eyes wide to match his grin as you climbed in to lay next to him. He was quick to wrap his arms around you again.
“Well?” He asked.
“Hmm?” You responded, face pressed against his shoulder.
“What are we now?” He leaned back so he could see your face.
You stretched languidly, tossing a leg over his hips and an arm over his chest before responding.
“What do you want this to be?”
“I want you to be mine,” he answered honestly.
“Then I’m yours,” you said simply, kissing the hinge of his jaw.
“My girlfriend,” he said adoringly, twisting to his side so you were facing each other.
You laughed softly, letting him cup your cheeks so he could pull you into an unhurried kiss. His tongue pressed past your lips to sweep along your teeth and slide hotly against yours.
“I’m pretty great at apologies, huh?” He boasted.
“Oh, shut up,” you groaned, pushing him away by his forehead.
Tendou let you shove his face away with a quiet giggle before brushing your hand away so he could attack your neck with more kisses.
“You better not be leaving marks,” you threatened halfheartedly, too caught up in the addicting sensation of his lips on your body to be serious.
Tendou eyed a particularly red spot, pressing a light kiss to it. “Of course not, baby.”
“That didn’t sound too convincing.”
“Well… it might fade,” Tendou circled the spot with his finger. “I kinda like it.”
“Satori!”
“Whaaat?” He crooned. “It lets everyone know you’re mine.”
“Ugh, you creep,” you murmured, accepting a soft kiss.
Tendou giggled cheerfully, squeezing you closer to him affectionately. He left a flurry of kisses across your cheeks and nose, sighing happily.
“I love this,” his hands roved over your body. “Getting to touch and kiss you as much as I want.”
“Mm, me too.”
Tendou’s lean body was beautiful, so was his blush when you informed him of this. He groaned and hid his face in the crook your neck.
“I’m serious!” You insisted, pulling his face from your neck so you could look at him.
“I know you are, thank you,” he mumbled, avoiding your eyes.
“Aww, are you embarrassed?”
Tendou scoffed. “Tch, of course not. I’m a catch, a total babe.”
Laughing, you let him bite playfully at the hinge of your jaw for a moment before shoving him away so he couldn’t leave another mark. Tendou settled down and was happy to let you brush your fingers through his hair until it lost it’s shape and started to fall over his forehead.
“Mmm, sleepy,” he sighed, practically purring as you massaged his scalp.
“Go to sleep then.”
He hummed, twisting his body until he was on his stomach with half of his body draped over yours. You smiled warmly, of course Tendou was a clingy sleeper.

‘Why am I nervous? We've done much more than just kiss. For fucks sake! I'm the mother of his child.’
You took a few deep breaths to calm yourself down before pushing the cart from behind your truck towards the large glass doors of the café. You had offered to take today’s batch of bread and pastries to Levi’s to snag a chance to see him, much to Mikasa’s annoyance.
“Oi, brat! You’re late.”, Levi remarked without looking up from his laptop when the bell above the door rang with your entrance, expecting her to have finally arrived.
“Levi, I’m so sorry! I made an impromptu decision to come here instead of Mikasa and -”, you emerged from behind the lofty stack of boxes.
Your hair was up in a messy bun, you were panting from hauling the weight and the resultant perspiration made you glow. Your continual rambling about why you were late, instantly gave him a feeling of Déjà vu, hurling him eight years back in time to the morning when he first laid his eyes on you.  Mirroring that day, he couldn’t focus on anything you were saying, gawking at you with unblinking eyes given how stupefied he was by the sight before his eyes and the sound of your voice.
“Levi? Are you listening?”, you waved your hand in front of his face, disrupting the mental movie playing in his head.
“Huh? Oh, y-yeah. Hi.” he shook his head vigorously and blinked a few times to bring himself back to the present.
Both a blushing mess, you stood by the entrance to the cafe, smiling at each other like two smitten high-schoolers.
“Are you finally back together?”, a shriek from the opposite end of the seating area made your ears ring.
The cacophony was loud enough that Erwin’s head immediately peaked out of his office; his face riddled with confusion. Both your necks snapped towards the source - Hange was running in your direction with the brightest grin on their face. Every head in the room was turned towards you. Eren and other new members of staff at the café, Armin, Jean, Sasha and Connie were slack jawed with their gaping eyes fixed on you after being subjected to this abrupt and unnecessary announcement. One look from Levi sent them scrambling back to work.
“Fucking four-eyes.” he mumbled as they came closer.
“I knew it! You lovebirds couldn’t stay apart for long!”, they squealed with joy enveloping you both in an spontaneous group hug, not giving Levi an opportunity to flinch away.
“Shhh! Calm down, Hange! We’re not back together. Yet.”, you tugged on their hands trying to free yourself from their clasp.
Levi's eyes met and stayed on yours when you uttered the last word, the way his heart fluttered at the sound of it clearly reflecting on his face.
Yet.
“But you were together last night. You have both put in way too much effort in your appearances today. And the color on Short-stack's cheeks can be spotted from Mars! What am I missing here?”, they observed, unaware of the heat rising within their two friends thinking about their final moments together at the Ackerman home yesterday.
Always the perceptive one, Hange. They weren’t entirely wrong. You did spend forty minutes in your closet hunting for the one floral lemon-yellow dress that Levi loved seeing you in; piling on deodorant while simultaneously cursing the hot summer. You picked your reflection in the mirror apart for way too long, fiddling with the necklace he bought you ages ago while rehearsing what you would say to him.
By the looks of it, he did too. He looked oh-so handsome today. Granted, he always did. But today was different. He wore your favorite navy-blue button-down shirt with slate grey slacks, sleeves folded to reveal his toned fore arms, and the top two buttons left open to aid with the sweltering heat; or was it because he knew that it made you weak in the knees when he wore his shirts that way? And his cheeks and ears were definitely a brighter shade of pink than the raspberry compote on the cheesecake you brought.
He stood pinching the bridge of his nose, his breathing starting to speed up. You figured it was his attempt at suppressing the strong urge to smack the grin right off Hange’s face.
“Hange, I promise, I’ll give you all the details later. But for now, Levi and I have things to discuss.”, you pulled him away before he could act on his impulse.
Taking a seat at the table by the large bay window, kissed by the morning sun, you watched the city slowly rise awake with your cheek resting on the palm of your hand. Levi, who was walking back from the kitchen with a cup of tea for himself and a caramel latte for you, stopped in his tracks to mentally frame this image. It was as if you were a different person than who he met over the last two days.
There were no signs of the anxious but adoring mother from yesterday nor the bewildered, pained ex-wife from the day before; you were the same clumsy, moody, garrulous, as well as kind, selfless and mesmerizing woman he fell madly in love with when you walked in through the doors of this very place eight years ago. How could one person flood his heart with a barrage of different emotions this way?
You acknowledged him with a soft ‘hi’ accompanied by a smile when he sat down on the chair opposite to you, nervous about the forthcoming conversation. You stole occasional glances at each other while sipping your beverages, hesitating to be the one to say the first word.
“Do you hate me?”, he asked out of the blue, his gaze locked on his cup.
“No! Why would you think that?”
“Uh- you obviously had a chance to think about what I said to you after going home last night. Why would you possibly want to still see me?”
“Well, I’m here, aren't I? I want to work on us if you’re willing to try as well, Levi. I want to see where this takes us.”, you smiled, placing your hand on his.
"Me too."
.
.
Four months later
The day of Suki and Furlan's wedding was finally here. The venue was set, guests had arrived and you were busy helping the bride get ready for her special day, having spent all morning with her, Isabel and the other bridesmaids in the bridal suite, chatting away in excitement and anticipation for the day ahead.
“Honestly speaking, Suki, I’d have a hard time keeping my hands off you if I were Furlan”, you teased while draping the veil into her hair, causing her to bury her face into her palms.
“You’re one to talk! Levi has been looking for reasons to see you all morning. I had to turn him away thrice already. I'm pretty sure he is going to murder me after the wedding is over.”, Isabel shot back with a smirk.
The last four months had been nothing short of a whirlwind. After that morning at the cafe, having breakfast with Levi turned into a routine. He brought Luna along on most days, and the three of you spent time chatting and admiring the toddler’s antics over tea and scones while sitting at your usual table by the bay window. Sometimes you’d have her accompany you to the patisserie to give Levi a much-deserved break.
Everyone there was enamored with the little firecracker. Her Uncle Miche had always been her favorite because the gentle giant ferried her around the large kitchen on his shoulders. Bertholdt and Reiner would happily comply to all the orders their mini boss belted out. Annie, although a little awkward around her, listened intently to her endless stories; Mikasa secretly pampered her with numerous treats even after several warnings from you, and Nanaba would fuss over her all the time and try to keep the little one all to herself, earning protests from the others.
The evenings varied between taking Luna to the park or the pier, or just spending time indoors at your place or his. You even celebrated her fourth birthday two weeks ago. All your friends and family, along with some little friends the birthday girl had made at the park were invited. You spent a beautiful evening in the backyard of your house around a bonfire, with a delectable meal and wonderful company.
Levi especially made sure you knew that you were being wooed by taking you out on date nights every now-and-then to the finest of restaurants, walks on the beach, to the drive-in theater a few miles outside your town, or star gazing from your favorite spot up the nearby hill. You both were working through your differences and had barely had any disagreements during the time spent together. Things were slowly falling in place; in fact, this newly re-built relationship with him felt much stronger than ever before.
The flashback ended when the wedding planner knocked on the door indicating it was time for the ceremony to begin. You, Isabel, and the other bridesmaids ushered Suki to her designated spot, making sure her dress, hair, make up and flowers looked perfect.
.
.
Standing at the altar by Furlan’s side as his best man, Levi was relieved that he would finally be seeing you soon after being apart all morning. Lately, the two of you spent most of your time together; and this sudden separation had him feeling restless.
On cue, the two harpists seated on either side of the rows began to play heavenly tune of ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perry, a prompt for the bride’s party to start making their way towards the altar. He watched patiently as bridesmaids accompanied by groomsmen walked down the aisle, waiting for you to finally appear. He almost forgot to breathe when your form eventually entered the nave, walking a short distance behind Isabel and one of Furlan’s friends.
You wore the emerald gown from your encounter with him at the store four months ago, and looked a million times more beautiful this morning. Your usually open hair was tied into an elegant loose braid with some curly strands framing your face. The sun rays falling on your silhouette from the towering stained-glass windows of the church made you look like an angel descending solely upon him. He finally began breathing again when you smiled at him and mouthed “breathe”, after taking your position at the altar.
Levi only peeled his eyes away from you when Luna’s giggles reverberated off the stone walls as she waddled down the aisle, scattering petals of baby pink roses, about the same shade has her chubby cheeks, on the ivory carpet. You wiped a stray tear rolling down your face as you both proudly watched her play the part of a flower girl with utmost perfection. Upon making it to the end, she ran to you and buried her face in your gown, suddenly feeling shy from the cheers and applause she received from the smitten guests.
You instantly scooped her up and held her close, letting her nuzzle into the crook of your neck, cooing sweet words of encouragement into her ears. Levi was so taken by this divine scene before him that he failed to notice the bride's much awaited walk down the aisle; surprised to directly find Suki standing at the altar, facing Furlan with her lips curved into the widest smile before his attention found you and Luna again.
He lost track of how long he was marveling at his two perfect girls for, until he felt an elbow harshly crash into his ribs, knocking the wind out of his lungs.
“Is this revenge for your wedding?”, Furlan frowned.
Levi blankly stared at him, having no clue what he was talking about
“Ring, Levi!”, the fuming groom growled.
Oh, right. He pursed his lips in embarrassment melting under the scrutiny of the baffled guests while he handed over the ring that was in the safety of his blazer’s pocket. His eyes darted towards an alarmed Suki and silently apologized to her. Then his gaze moved back to you, an impish smirk on your face as you stared back at him, knowing exactly what was going on in his mind.
Fuck! Furlan was not going to let this go for a long time.
Luna had lost interest in the festivities midway through the nuptials and had fallen asleep in your arms. After the ceremony, when everyone began to make their way outside the chapel, Levi swiftly moved over to walk beside you and offered to carry the snoozing toddler. You groaned after her weight left your body, stretching your sore shoulders and aching back .
“Stop that. You have no idea how hard it is to control myself from jumping your bones, especially when you look this gorgeous.”, Levi whispered in your ear, snaking an arm around your waist.
You glanced around awkwardly making sure his words did not fall on any prying ears and gave him a quick smack on the shoulder, trying to suppress the heat creeping up your neck.
.
.
Time skip – Evening
The wedding reception was underway. You sat at a table sipping lemonade, watching the newlyweds grooving to the beats of music being played by DJ Zeke. Levi swapped his usual glass of Macallan for a cup of ginger lemon tea; His reason being that his throat was sore from carrying out best man duties. But you knew he was just being supportive of your goal to stay off alcohol.
Erwin and Hange sat by the bar, socializing with Furlan’s Boss, Mr. Pyxis while Luna was busy playing duck-duck-goose with some new toddler friends she made at the venue. Levi needed to be physically restrained from ambushing Isabel who he had discovered slow dancing with the same groomsman that walked alongside her at the ceremony. Miche and Nanaba were spotted in a rare public embrace, dancing leisurely to the slow music; and your army of helpers consisting of Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Jean, Sasha, Connie, Reiner, Bertholdt and Annie took the lead on setting up tables as yours and Levi’s patisserie and café were the official caterers for the evening.
The choice of DJ Zeke's next track brought a sparkle to your eyes. Your smile spread from ear to ear when ‘Fly me to the Moon' by Frank Sinatra emanated from the speakers. You sang along and began swaying cheerfully in your seat to the melody.
“Remember, Levi? This was the song we had our first dance to at our wedding.” you reminisced; a nostalgic smile spread across your face.
“How can I forget?”, he asked.
His eyes were unfocused, lost in memories of his own. He remembered how ethereal you looked in your white wedding dress. How your diamond jewelry shimmered under the spotlight, how you whispered honeyed words into his ears when he felt exceptionally uncomfortable dancing in public, how warm your hands felt wrapped around his body, how your breath tickled his neck. He’d give anything just to go back and relive that moment.
You gaze was still lost among people enjoying themselves on the dance floor when a stretched-out hand entered your line of vision. Your eyes followed it to land on Levi’s face. A quirk in your eyebrows wordlessly asked him what this action meant.
“Let's dance.”, he said.
“You, Levi Ackerman, are willingly asking me to dance? Did someone spike your tea?” You smirked, earning an eye roll from him.
“Oi, brat! Let’s go before I change my mind.”
“Only if you ask nicely.”
“May I have this dance with you, my love?”
You accepted and the pair of you headed towards the dance floor. He gently pulled you close to him and firmly held on to your hand. His other hand wrapped firmly around your waist and you rested yours on his shoulder. You both moved to the slow rhythm in perfect harmony, as you drowned in those gorgeous blue-grey eyes. It felt like the world around you had dissolved and it was just the two of you and the music.
“You look nice today. I see you bought the same gray suit you hated with a fiery passion.”, you teased.
“How could I not after you said you liked it?”
You looked over his shoulder to Suki and Furlan flashing you a wide grin from across the dance floor. And so did Hange, Miche and Nanaba from over that the bar. Erwin gently raised his drink in your direction. The heat from the from the sudden metaphorical spot light you stood under was cooled by the kiss Levi planted on your cheek.
“Did I tell you how lucky I feel to have you?”, he whispered into your ear as while brushing strands of hair off your face.
“I could stand to hear it more often.”, You hid your blush by resting your forehead on his shoulder, feeling too shy to keep his gaze.
“It's true. You’re the most beautiful woman is this room tonight, scratch that, you’ll be the most beautiful woman anywhere, any day; and I get the honor of calling you mine.” he cooed, drawing gentle circles on your back with his fingers.
“You’re awfully talkative today!”, you lifted your head again to reveal a contagious coy smile spread across your lips.
“Don’t be stupid. I’ve always been talkative.”,
“Come with me.”, he moved you off his chest and tugged at your hand.
“Where?”, you asked in utter confusion, and a bit of annoyance at the wonderful moment being ruined, just to receive silence in response.
Levi quickly glanced over to find Luna munching on garlic bread sticks with Erwin and Hange, as he guided you away from the venue and towards the lake nearby. The ripples in the water gleamed under the moonlight, resembling liquid silver. Warm yellow light from the lamps on either side of a wooden dock dimly illuminated the path that led to a gorgeous gazebo that stood at the end, its ceiling sprinkled with fairy lights that defined the intricate floral carvings in the wood. You stood in the center of the structure and slowly spun around, marveling at the work of whose ever brilliant hands built it.
“Levi, this is stunning!”, you said gazing in all directions, running your fingers over the sophisticated engravings.
“Yes, it is.”, Levi agreed, his eyes not on the architecture, but instead on the human embodiment of radiant sunny day that stood by his side.
Not remotely expecting anything to outshine the sight before you, your vision was captured by an extravagant display of red, green, and gold against the dark blanket of the night’s sky. You jumped when the sound of the first soaring explosion caught you off guard. An arm slid across your waist and a kiss was placed on your temple. You were enamored by the shattering sparks of the fireworks, eliciting frequent oohs and aahs, until a voice snapped you out of your reverie.
“Marry me.”
It took you a few seconds to fully register what you just heard. But when you did, overwhelming feelings of joy rendered you speechless; fingers absentmindedly running over the carved railing of the gazebo, stunned orbs darting between the brilliant sky and the love of your life.
This time Levi had to remind you to breathe.
Your eyes and lips both turned into wide Os, and you slapped your hands to cover your gaping mouth when he slowly lowered himself to kneel before you, opening a little black box containing the same gorgeous ruby ring from all those years ago, which he sneaked out of your nightstand during one of his visits.
“I know that you said you wanted to take this slow. But the last four months with you have been the most precious of my life, where I got a glimpse of what having a perfect family would be like. I learnt the hard way, what I lost when I lost you and you gave me a second chance at finding happiness when you decided to come back. I promise to love and protect you every single day for the rest of my life, and even after. You complete me, love, and you complete our family. So, will you do me the honor of being Mrs. Ackerman, again?”
“Levi...”, your trembling voice was barely audible.
“Yes.”, you breathed, letting the floodgates finally open when he slid the ring on your finger.
He got back on his feet and engulfed you into the tightest embrace as you wept joyous tears into his shoulders.
“I love you so much!”
“I love you too!”, moving to look into your eyes, he cupped your face with warm hands.
And finally, his lips found yours.
It felt... like home;
Like laying in a cozy bed after a long day of work, like the warm chocolate sauce on a cold scoop of ice-cream, like wearing a fuzzy sweater on a crisp autumn evening, like walking barefoot on the beach at sunset, like taking a cool shower on a blazing summer afternoon, like everything you ever needed.
After being torn apart from the one person who made your life perfect, you were finally back in the soothing confines of his strong arms, resting against his able chest, ready to fall apart; all while the fireworks in the sky mirrored the fireworks in your hearts.
“Mama! Papa!”
You were awoken from this surreal euphoria by the most beautiful squeal you had ever heard. Both your heads turned towards the source of it – a tiny figure running towards you with all her might while all your near and dear ones including the newlyweds watched from a distance, cheering merrily.
“They knew?”, you gasped, sobbing and sniffling from the joyous tears.
“Yeah, pretty much everyone but you knew.”
Luna flew into Levi’s open arms when he bent down to receive her. The three of you merged into one blob of a positively smothering family hug, only pulling away to pepper each other with more kisses. Levi held his two girls close. His sun and moon were now back together in the sky of his life. He looked into Luna’s crescent shaped eyes and whispered,
“Moon beam, Mama’s coming home.”

Random rambling...
... about a first kiss with Tobirama Senju. Will get back to requests soon. ♥
Anyhoot, lets get into it.
Thought No. 1: It happens during your marriage ceremony. It was arranged marriage, an alliance between two clans. All eyes were on you two, waiting for it to happen - especially since everybody knew that you both weren't exactly happy about this arrangement. Both of you just wanted to live your lives the way you wanted to. Still, you both were in this situation now and had to deal with it somehow...
It was quick. A small and soft peck. Still, it managed to ignite certain unknown feelings. His lips were soft, yet harsh and a little demanding despite the shortness of it. But you could feel what he wasn't able to put into words. A promise to make this arrangement work, to be there for you, to be the best husband for you he could possibly be.
Thought No. 2: It happens after weeks or months of dating. it was 100% planned. Tobirama woke up one day and decided this was the day he would finally man up and kiss your beautiful lips.
He made sure you two were somewhere private, hidden away from prying eyes - probably on top of the Hokage rock, underneath the stars sparkling high in the sky. He convinces himself he's totally calm - but his heart is racing a mile a minute. Who was he kidding? Around you, he always felt like a young boy experiencing his first crush.
He'd carefully touch your hand with his fingers, not lingering too long until you would get the hint and scoot a little closer to him, gently grasping his hand before he interlaces his fingers with yours.
Your head would fall onto his shoulder and before he could even process his emotions, his lips were already planting soft kisses onto your forehead. You tilted your head slightly to get a better look at him, silently adoring the very small blush on his pale cheeks. A small smile from you is all it takes to have him put his lips on yours.
It's soft and gentle, filled with emotions. His lips are warm and smooth against yours. It only lasts a moment, and Tobirama can't stop himself from stealing several more of these sweet sweet carresses from you that night.
@moonbarnes you're welcome. ♥

FBI training (Part 1)
Pairing: Stiles Stilinski x Reader
Summary: The reader is the child of the two most skilled FBI agents of the States. At the FBI training she is paired up with a very determent young man who always finds a way to trouble her.
Author’s note: I tried to make it as genderneutral as possible. But at some point there is a small implication that the reader could be female and their roommate could be male. But further than that, there is no specifications of gender.
This is going to be a multiple part fic. The first part already took me way too long to write. So I apologize in advance if the next parts will take long to write too. I will try to finish them as quickly as I can.
Words: 3k (3084)
Tumblr media
On the most important day of your life, running late was not one of the things you had planned for. But seen how impulsive your roommate could be, it wasn’t out of the ordinary for them to mess up your schedule. They had stolen all your alarm clocks at night for some stupid experiment. Yes, you owned multiple. Normally you used your phone as an alarm. But after a couple mishaps caused by your roommate, you couldn’t put all your trust entirely on electronic devises. So you had bought an old-fashioned alarm clock that still ran on batteries, just in case something were to happen to your phone. But even that clock had been ruined many times. So from that moment on you always had some spare clocks hidden in your room, just in case.
That they had found all your spare clocks wasn’t too surprising, seen that they weren’t hidden very well. What did shock you was that they hadn’t woken you up by their wild scavenger hunt. You were a light sleeper, even the smallest of noises could shake you out of your deep rest. That’s why you wore earbuds to bed, including that particular night. They often didn’t muffle the sounds enough, surely not during an experiment. Your roommate tend to forget about their surroundings as they start one, getting lost in their passion. You had awoken countless of times to the sound of falling objects, happy laughter, mumbles of rambling thoughts, excited jumping, soft sobbing and frequently a loud whine or groan. By now it was a normal occurrence. But of course, on that night the earbuds had done their job, cancelling out all the noise from the nightly events.
The evening before, everything had gone smoothly. Too smoothly. You were supposed to suspect something, but your intuition had failed you due to the overwhelming amounts of emotions that threw you out of balance. There always had to be a bump in the road. Nothing ever went entirely good.  You had excitedly packed your backpack, leaving out a book to read before you went to bed. Next you picked out your outfit for the morning, neatly placing it on top of your wooden desk. Making that decision the day before took away a part of the unwanted stress to your already overflowing anxiety-filled body. Not that picking an outfit for the FBI Academy would be hard. They had a strict dress code. Everyone had to wear a white button up, tie being an optional choice. What you wore as bottoms also was a free choice, but they had to be formal and needed to show off professionalism.
Before you had changed into a big T-shirt and some sleeping shorts, you checked over your backpack and outfit; making sure you hadn’t forgotten anything. After double checking 3 times, you continued your night ‘routine’. (Your days never looked the same, so you couldn’t really call it a routine.) You washed your face and brushed your teeth, bidding your roommate goodnight as you passed by their room. Once in your room again, you placed your phone on the nightstand, making sure it’s charging for the night. Next you grabbed your earbuds, securing them in your ears before climbing into bed. While you sank into the pile of soft pillows, a mixture of emotions overwhelmed you. Excitement and anxiety had boiled up in your body throughout the whole week. But only now did they leave a tight, crushing feeling in your chest. None the less, sleep soon overtook your senses, greeting you with a peaceful night full of dreams.
As soon as your eyes closed, your luck decided to no longer be on your side. A default in your roommate’s experiment had caused a huge black-out in your building. The electricity had been out all night, resulting in your phone being dead as you awoke the next morning. Usually you could have trusted on your spare alarms, but those were also destroyed in the process of the experiment. That left you with no alarms to wake up to , therefore ending up being late.
What actually had woken you up was the harsh light shining through your thin drapes. It immediately triggered a huge wave of panic to drown, stealing all the air from your longes. Your eyes shot to the analogue clock that hung on your wall, cursing loudly as you read the time. You quickly jumped out of bed, stumbling through your room in a hurried state. At a rapid speed you pulled your clothes on, washed your face, brushed your teeth, tamed your wild bed-hair and desperately tried to make yourself look presentable in the little time you had. You ran back to your room to grab your backpack and the book you were supposed to read last night. Next you made your way over to the small kitchen, taking an apple from the fruit bowl. As you stuffed it into your backpack, you placed your book onto the table. While doing so, your eyes caught sight of your roommate sleeping with their head onto the cold surface. They were surrounded by your broken alarm clocks, pieces scattered everywhere. You couldn’t resist the urge to hit them against the head with your book. Not too hard of course, but hard enough to make any impact. They jumped awake, nearly falling off their chair. ‘Next time wake me up’, you said referring to their failed experiment, ‘Surely when you steal all my alarm clocks.’ You continued rushing to the front door, shoving your book in your backpack as well. They mumbled a small apology. ‘Usually you wake up way before your alarm’, their voice was groggy and quiet. While putting on your shoes you shouted your reply: ‘Not when I haven’t slept less than 6 hours in the past 5 days.’ Another apology followed, but you payed no mind to it. You shut the door behind you with a rather loud thud. You deeply breathed in and out before starting your run towards campus. The interaction hadn’t been in a mean manner or a sign of anyone being upset at the other. It was just your panicked, anxiety filled state being in need to rush, while they had their brain still filled with the morning fog.
The reason why you barely had closed your eyes in the past 5 days, was because you were helping your parents who had stumbled upon a cruel twist in their rather difficult case. You couldn’t stand to just watch them suffer, so you pulled a few all-nighters with them until you solved most of the hard parts. The feeling of being able to solve such a thing, made it all worth it. None the less, it still had left you exhausted and drained.
---
To your surprise you had made it in time. You had ran your way to campus, underestimating how far the distance actually was. You tried to catch your breath as you quickly checked your watch. You had 8 minutes till your class started. It was a little late for your liking, knowing how important punctuality is to them, but it would do. You lightly jogged through the halls as you looked at the map of the building that was supposed to guide you through the maze like structure. Even if you had been there plenty of times before in your life, it still was a confusing structure that didn’t want to stick in your head.
Your mind was too occupied with other things, completely forgetting about your surroundings. So, it was only logical for you to run into a person. The impact of bumping into their harsh chest made you stumble back the slightest bit, but you were able to quickly steady yourself like nothing had happened. Before you could look at the damage you had done, a high pitched voice cracked out a long ‘noo’. In front of you stood a tall, raven-haired man with warm brown eyes. He was looking at the huge coffee stain on his white button while holding his empty coffee cup in his other hand. In the mean while you had gotten distracted by his beauty. You noticed small birthmarks littering his pale skin, resembling little constellations being spread out in the night sky.
The string of curse words leaving his lips pulled you out of your fazed out state. You had accidentally been checking out this exceptionally beautiful man, who hopefully hadn’t noticed anything of it. It would be highly inappropriate and quite uncomfortable. Luckily for you his eyes were still on the huge coffee stain. ‘Oh, I’m so sorry’, you stammered out, immediately moving into action. You swung you backpack to the front, rumbling through your stuff in order to find the spare shirt you had stolen from your roommate. They didn’t mind. You were clumsy by nature and had to lend their clothes on plenty occasions. Neither was it your first time to ever ruin someone’s clothes, so you always tried to be prepared for moments like this.
The man continued to angrily mumble to himself, clearly stressing out. He failed to notice the shirt you had offered to him, until you spoke up. ‘Here’, you offered him a polite smile as his head shot up at a fast pace. You were met with a confused look being plastered over his face. Assuming what his next statement would be, you answered before he could open his mouth. ‘It’s a men’s medium.’ As his facial expression didn’t change, you huffed out an annoyed sigh. He seemed to have trouble connecting the dots. He just had to accept the shirt, that’s all. You couldn’t lose any more time, surely not by a stupid encounter. ‘Take it or go in with a huge stain, it’s your choice’, you stated with annoyance clearly noticeable in your voice, while trying to continue your kind demeanor. You dropped the shirt into his hands. ‘If I were you I would change quickly’, you said over your shoulder before turning the corner that lead you to your final destination.
You had made it just in time. The classroom already filled with students. You quickly sat down at one of the tables that still had an empty spot.  On your left sat a nice looking girl with her hair tied up in a tight ponytail. She offered you a kind smile that faded into a mean scowl only seconds later. Would she have recognized you? Did she knew who you were?
You were the child of two of the most skilled FBI agents of the States. They were top of their field and greatly respected by most people. Seen you family (who all worked in similar fields) were so well known, it was only logical that you also would gain the attention from outsiders. But that also caused them to make wrong assumptions about you. They were often too stubborn to see the truth or didn’t even want to take the chance to get to know you. They just thought you were an arrogant, ego-centric, selfish child who was spoiled to dead and never had to work a day in their life. They thought you were in dire need to constantly get all the attention. They expected you to think highly about yourself while looking down on others, therefore also expecting you to be condescending towards them.  Your parents had tried to prepare you for this. Not everyone is going to like you or take their time to get to know you before voicing their opinions about you. In this field, and similar fields, professional jealousy was very common. It made people act in vile ways. You feared this was going to happen in your training.
You sat in your chair with a scared heart while anxiously tapping your pencil against the desk. The supervisor was reading names of a list, but your mind drowned his voice out due to your excessive worrying. It all went smoothly, until he tumbled over a particular hard name. ‘Mie-Mic...’, the poor man looked questionably at his paper, desperate to pronounce the name correctly. As on cue the boy from earlier came to stand into the doorframe. His stained shirt was replaced by yours, fitting him just a tad bit too tightly. It showed off his muscular body even more. ‘Miecsyslaw Stilinski, sir... But most people call me Stiles.’ His voice was lower this time, but still clearly with with raging anxiety. Hearing his name roll of his tongue so smoothly made an alarm go off in your head. It sounded oddly familiar. Surely the nickname ‘Stiles’ had triggered a vague memory to resurface in your head. You just couldn’t figure out any of the details. It was like an itch you couldn’t scratch.
The supervisor looked sternly at the new boy with an unimpressed look on his face. His eyes examined him, clearly judging his appearance. ‘Ah, I see. Well, next time be on time .. and dress appropriately. You don’t need to try showing off your pretentious muscles, it doesn’t suit you.’ That comment made you feel even more guilty. It was your fault he was late and had to dress in a too tight shirt. He apologized with his eyes faintly focusing on something behind the supervisor, before they quickly went to you in order to shoot you a nasty glare. You returned an apologetic smile that didn’t help much with the current situation. He continued to hold eye contact with you until the man’s voice filled the room again. ‘Now take a seat will you’, the annoyance was clear as day. His eyes left yours for a split second as he came to action, stumbling his way towards the empty chair that just happened to be to your right. As he passed by, still holding intense eye contact with you, his faint but sweet cologne filled your nose. A scent that later on would distractingly infiltrate your nose, no matter how much you tried to focus on something else.
You were pulled out of your trance again when an excited voice filled your ears. ‘(Y/N)(Y/L/N), what a surprise to see you here. What could we possibly teach you? You already know everything and are following your parents footsteps flawlessly.’ Your cheeks reddened at his praising comment. The other students immediately glared at you, envying how sweet he acted towards you. Towards the others he had been cold and distant, whereas now he was talking highly about you. A big difference that everyone easily noticed. The room immediately was filled with a strong uncomfortable tension that reeked of jealousy.
The main reason for his kind demeanor towards you was because you already knew each other. Your parents often visited the Academy, helping with the development of new tasks or other improvements. Other times he visited you at home. He had seen you grow into the person you are today. His bond with you could be considered as a familiar one, or at least close to. So that explained. his fondness of you. The other reason for his praising was the status of your parents. It would be a shame on him and the Academy to talk down on or disrespect your family or you in any way. Besides the great help they provided for the Academy, they also were one of their sponsors.  You just hoped that they wouldn’t use this to your advantage by treating you differently and more highly. You wanted to be given a fair chance. If they were going to train you without fairly criticizing you out of fear of disrespecting your family’s name, then this whole thing would be a waste of time.
‘Well, everyone is equal to the law. It’s one of the requirements we all need to go through to become an FBI agent. No matter how experienced or inexperienced we are, we all deserve to be treated equally’, you said timidly, trying not to sound overly confident or condescending towards others. You gave the supervisor a timid but kind smile while trying to avoid the burning glares. You didn’t want to go any deeper into the subject.
Seen that you were a child of the two top FBI agents of the states, meant that you had been trained to follow their footsteps from a very young age. As a baby you were given a lot of puzzles and stimulants to train your senses. At the age of 3 the tasks started to be more difficult and challenging. At your 5 the training started to become serious. When you were 12 you already were allowed to help with smaller cases. At 16 you were actively helping them with all types of cases. Both your parents had gone through the same training, seen that their fathers also had been top FBI agents. At this point the training had become some sort of tradition in your family. Most of the people in your family had underwent similar trainings, as they all worked in similar fields. They varied from FBI agents, cops, sherifs, detectives to medical helpers such as nurses, doctors, firemen,...
The supervisor laughed at your comment. ‘I’m sure you’ll graduate without any trouble. It’ll be an easy game for you. Even in your sleep you’ll still be top of the class.’ Again, you shoot him an awkward but polite smile, being uncomfortable by the amount of praising he has done. It was overwhelming and placing you in a hard position. ‘That depends on how hard you make the tasks’, your timid voice became even more quiet as the mean glares had intensified. ‘Always so humble. Just like your parents.’ With that statement he ended his long praising session.
As he continued his speech of the importance of this training, you let out a deep sigh. You had turned impossibly bright, your face burning from embarrassment. Without intending to, he had put you as a target for everyone to hate on. He made you seem like the enemy that everyone had to fear. He had thrown tons of gasoline on the burning fire of jealousy. Your future colleagues saw you as the one thing that would stand in their way of becoming a FBI agent, something that would withhold them from their dream. If there wasn’t going to be rough play already, there sure would be now. This was going to be a rougher year than you had anticipated. You were already dreading the next day to come.

could you please write something for Inej and a fem reader? Maybe they are in a heist or something and they get split up and the reader gets hurt or barely gets away and when they find each other Inej just holds her for a second because she thought she lost her and then accidentally confesses her feelings? <3
The Stars in Her Eyes
Inej Ghafa X reader
a/n - I love Inej, seriously so much it's unhealthy. So excited to write this because awww the love confessions and fluff I simply adore it!
Warnings: injury, passing out, mentions of the Menagerie (literally the word once).

You were late.
If it were, say, Jesper then Inej wouldn't be nearly as bothered.
But you were never late.
That was why she was currently biting her nails down to the nub and tapping her foot in an extremely fast paced, irregular rythm.
It had only gotten quicker as time went on, and now there were barely any gaps in-between her foot landing on the cobbles, as if it had never been lifted.
This went on for minutes until Kaz tossed Inej a handkerchief, it billowing in the wind. For a person with slower reflexes, the fabric would be lost permanently but she snatched it out of the air as soon as it left his hand.
However, her mind was still on you and all the possible reasons for why you weren't at the meeting place promptly.
"For your lip."
Kaz's gruff voice brought her back to earth and she concluded that her bottom lip must feel so warm in one area because she had practically mauled it.
She hastily lifted the handkerchief to her face and when she withdrew it, it was stained with a dark crimson and her lip burnt.
Kaz didn't say anything of her concern for you, even if it was at an all time high - a little too concerned to just be friends. He too cared for you, as he did all his Crows.
He would just never deign to admit it. You couldn't have any weaknesses in the Barrel: none that showed anyway.
But for now, he would allow the spider to convey visible distress as the whole point of choosing the specific location for the meeting, was that no one ever went there. No one would be able to see her weakness and so they wouldn't be able to exploit it.
Kaz and Inej stood at the end of the alley, Inej constantly poking her head around the corner, hoping to catch a glimpse of you.
"What's the time?"
"No different to when you last asked." Was Kaz's stoic response.
At this point, she would take any scenario in which you were alive. You returning injured would be bearable. Yes, she would hate to see you in pain but it was better that than dead.
Inej only wanted you to come back. Come back for her. Come back to her.
"Wraith, survey the skies."
This meant Kaz was giving up. That order was always his last resort before he would return to the Slat and consider possibilities of capture, torture and death.
"No."
Kaz let a flash of shock cross his features involuntarily, then straightened. She had never disobeyed him like this before. She had never outright refused.
"You will do as I say."
"You can't be giving up. Not on her. We both know she has a higher chance of survival if we delay leaving her here."
This was quickly turning into a heated act of defiance. And Kaz needed to quell it.
"She will survive."
That was when he realised that maybe a matter of fact approach wasn't the best and the truth was, Kaz had repressed his emotions for so long, all except anger, and this meant he had no idea how to comfort or sympathise.
"No Kaz! She might not! And you know, I will look for her! And even if you lose hope, I will not! I will keep searching... I will."
"Have you wondered why you want to cling to the ever fading idea she is alive."
She blatantly ignored the way Kaz had gone back on himself and reversed his previous statement.
"Because... Because I love-"
Tumblr media
You were tumbling round corners, your feet slapping over the smoothed stones and your breath coming as heavy pants from your throat.
Your hand was plastered to your side, the knife in-between your middle and index finger. You hadn't pulled it out - if you did, you would bleed out ten times faster.
Four streets left.
You counted them off in your head as you passed them, doing anything to focus on something other than the pain slowly overriding your brain.
You had made all of the correct turnoffs. There were two remaining but the blood coating your fingers reminded you of the little time left. You weren't going to make it.
It was one of your worst nightmares, dying in a creepy, damp and withering alleyway, the moss and grime giving a possibility you'd never be found.
Your family would never get the closure they needed and Inej would probably look for you everyday.
You were filled with a new kind of determination, to stay alive, if only until they saw you. All they had to do was see you once, that was all. Then you would be happy as you passed on.
You were halfway down the second alley when you saw it. Kaz's coattails were flapping in the wind and Inej's braid too.
You sped up slightly, only to stumble as your hand went to the rough brick wall. You retracted your hand and it came back grazed, but that was the least of your problems.
As you came into their view, her back was turned to you but Kaz's wasn't. His eyes widened in terror, just barely, but Inej caught it. She whirled around to see you, faint blood splatters covering your face and a dried, rusty maroon crusting beneath your nails.
"Hi. Hope I didn't stuff it up-"
You had been sending a weak smile in Kaz's direction, attempting not to let it waver when Inej collided with you, and all your attention was brought to her.
She wrapped her arms around your waist, careful to avoid the wound in your torso and the sensitive skin surrounding it. You could not reciprocate the hug wholeheartedly as you wished to, because of the necessary pressure being provided by your palm, pressed flat against your flesh.
You had just managed to lift your spare arm from the elbow upwards to stiffly pat her back when she pulled back.
"Saints, you're alive. Not that I thought you were dead. I just, don't know what I'd do without you."
She was rambling and you raised an eyebrow to Kaz, wordlessly asking what ideas he had put in her head about you never coming back. He lifted his shoulders in a shrug, as if he had no clue what you meant.
The newfound strength you had gained by seeing them, seeing her, appeared to be fading and you swayed haphazardly on your feet.
Inej rushed to steady you, her eyes enlarged and frantic and you leant on her heavily, slumping and in turn forcing her to support the majority of your weight as you travelled back to the Slat.
Two streets.
Cobblestones.
Cobblestones hurtling up to meet you. Or was it you falling down?
And as your vision progressively became fuzzy, you were caught before your head made impact with the floor.
Black. Black and no cobblestones. No streets.
"Kaz!"
He glanced back to see her cradling your head to her chest, having squatted down at the last moment.
Now, her training would come into use. Her muscles had been built up in the air, swirling the silks and during the throwing of her knives to train in the Crows.
She repositioned her hands so one was at the back of your knees and the other looped over your lower back and carried on walking the winding paths.
Kaz was hurrying with more urgency now, Inej too. She quickened her pace and lengthened her steps to match his, so eventually they were almost jogging side by side, solemn and sorrowful.
Tumblr media
The door to the Slat nearly burst off its hinges as it was carelessly flung open and Kaz hollered for Nina.
She rushed down the stairs, taking two at a time and didn't hesitate when seeing you, battered and bleeding. There was never any time to hesitate when any millisecond could make the difference between life and death.
Inej stayed by your side while Nina was trying her best to do what she could. She forced herself to witness the needle dipping through your flesh and envision it as a dance of sorts, so she wouldn't be sick.
Nina too left, just as Kaz had, after mentioning Jesper was probably sidetracked gambling for celebration after partaking in his section of the heist, unaware of the turmoil in the remaining Crow's hearts.
But Inej stayed. She always did and always would. You had stuck with her through everything, by her side as her friend and she as yours, each wishing the other was so much more.
Before you awoke, she considered what she would have said before. That she loved you. Did she? Inej was always so unsure if she could ever love anyone. But, she supposed, that was before you.
Your door was always open for her, no matter the time of day, letting her know you were there for her, just across the hallway.
The red fabrics could never follow her in there and it was a given she could rest easy, no longer thinking of the Menagerie.
You would always spare her a coffee and never accept her trying to pay you back. She probably owed you a hundred kruge by now, at least.
You would always buy her a small gift for her birthday. Last year it was an anklet with a glittering spider in the centre, to represent her ability to scale buildings and jump from rooftop to rooftop like it was nothing.
It must have sold for a lot, but you never specified exactly, making sure she had no way of knowing its true costly value.
And she knew as your eyes fluttered open, she was in love. The kind that if you were apart for weeks, hours, minutes it would feel as though years had passed.
"I love her."
It was a whispered confession: falling from Inej's lips like sweet honey, blurted out before she could help it.
"Who?"
She jumped. It took a lot to make her, the one who always monitored who was in the room, shocked, but she had been so lost in thought she hadn't seen you had been observing her.
She shook her head unbelievably swiftly them said, "That doesn't matter. You're awake."
She stood so she was leaning over you and helped you to sit up slowly, adjusting the pillows accordingly. You had a faint trace of a smile gracing your lips as you asked once more.
"No, tell me. It's important to know if my friend is in love."
It's important to know if you can ever be mine, and I yours.
Instead of answering she called for Nina, who checked your heartbeat and declared you only needed rest. She told you her conclusion with a wag of her finger and you knew what she was thinking. You would try to get up the first possible time you could.
She left once more and you gazed at Inej, all the stars in her eyes that were just as important, if not more so, to you than the Saints she so stubbornly believed in.
Those words accidentally toppled away from her and into the silence once again, only with a sentence added at the end.
"I love her. You."
"What?"
It was barely said at all, almost failing to reach her ears and she clarified, took the leap of faith she should have so long ago.
"I'm in love with you."
Your jaw dropped, mouth gaping open then closed, like a fish out of water. You had just processed what she had said when she began to stutter over her words, apologising and saying she understood.
It broke your heart and you were quick to reassure her you did love her too.
And you really did.
How she could dance over rooftops, never stumbling, the way her plait swayed as she walked and the determination in her eyes, the fire that hadn't been put out, even after all she'd been through.
"No I do understand, even if you don't want to be friends at all."
She stopped talking as you let out a pained grunt, manouvering your torso to sit up and legs to dangle over the edge of the bed.
"What are you-"
She didn't have a chance to finish her question and the last word was muffled against your mouth as your lips pressed to hers, your hand at the nape of her neck and hers automatically lifting to your cheek.
As you pulled away, you sported a confident smirk, and said, "If that wasn't confirmation I love you too, I can always, I don't know, try again?"
The stars in her eyes sparkled once more and she responded eagerly as she too grinned.
"Oh, I'm still not quite sure. Think you could help me out on that?"
You hummed affirmatively and your lips met for the second time out of many.

i hate angst without happy endings, but i’m also self-destructive. therapy is expensive, but ripping your own heart out and bearing your insecurities into a full-fledged story for you and others to read? free.
warnings : angst without a happy ending, insecurities, jealousy, mayhaps toxic behavior?? idk if ur looking for a good time, this isn’t for you bestie <3 also i might misspell uraraka’s name wrong a few times, i’ll fix them later :*
Tumblr media
being quirkless had its advantages. with such a small number of us being born without powers, it left a lot of the mundane jobs open.
which is why, as soon as pro-hero deku opened his agency, i came to him with the request to be his assistant.
on the daily, he had people coming up to him asking for internships or to be his sidekick. but he never had anyone ask to be his assistant.
being the number one hero often meant that every day things, things one may take for granted or deem insignificant became just another list of things on the busy man’s to-do list.
therefore the appeal of having someone file his paper work and run to get him coffee in the morning was great enough to hire me.
and i was glad he did.
this is what i have been working for since i was a first year in high school. after watching the freckled boy break limb after limb to defeat his opponent.
yeah, i saw it as irresponsible and stupid that he had to break his own body to save others. but i was willing to overlook it.
my one goal during my remaining years of high school and up to college was that wherever that little green haired boy went, i would follow.
and that reigned true as his assistant. i would shuffle after him like a duckling following it’s mother, wherever he needed me.
if he needed me in a briefing to take notes for him, i was there. if he needed me to put in overtime to help him file the last minute paperwork, i was there. if he wanted a particular pastry from a specific bakery half way across town, i was there.
izuku was never mean, or demanding. always thanking me profusely for anything i ever did for him. leaving me to remind him that this was my job, and any way to make his life easier was good enough for me.
but maybe i should have held onto those blushed cheeks and crinkled eyes as he thanked me for the coffee that he didn’t even know he needed, for a just a little bit longer.
you know how a child will open a new toy on christmas and it quickly becomes their new favorite toy? playing with it non-stop, taking it wherever they go. until one day, they grow bored of it and never touch it again as it grows dusty at the bottom of their toy bin.
i know izuku wasn’t doing it on purpose, he didn’t have an intentionally mean bone in his body. i guess you could say, some other toys came around and took his attention away.
and that toy, was a particularly difficult mission in collaboration with uravity’s agency.
the two spent long hours cooped in his office as they went over notes, plans, intel, etc. until the conversation melted into talk about the old days and the wonderful memories they had together in high school.
i went to work the following days with absolutely no energy to handle whatever would be thrown at me. i hadn’t been able to get much sleep, as when i closed my eyes the only thing i could see was the look in his eyes when he saw her.
my patience was already thin given the events of the most recent week, but when the printer started malfunctioning leaving me unable to fax the papers izuku wanted me send, you could say that was the first domino.
i swatted and kicked and pressed any button on the stupid machine. telling myself i was merely trying to get to stupid thing to work, but deep down i knew that the printer was just my temporary punching bag. an outlet to unleash my anger and emotions onto something instead of letting them fester inside me.
so when one of izuku’s sidekicks came by, giving a snarky comment about my behavior, i was able to brush it off with a roll of my eyes and an equally snippy comment back.
but as the hunk of plastic remained steady in its plan to ruin my day, the lack of sleep and lingering resentment started to bubble within me once more.
i heard footsteps behind me and a joking voice say, “having a bit of trouble are we?”
if it weren’t for the white hot anger buzzing in my ears i may have been able to identify the voice before i lashed out on them. but we already established this was not my day.
so as my hands moved to clutch the machine below me, most likely to restrain my abuse to merely verbal instead of physical. i spit out, “listen i’m fucking trying okay? so how about you get off my ass and do something useful.”
i turned around to face who i thought would be another sidekick sent to push my buttons. but i instead came face-to-face with the green haired man himself.
eyes blown wide, mouth agape in shock, a light blush dusted under his freckles as he fought to handle the situation the best way he could.
but i beat him to it with a deep bow and an endless flow of apologies, opting to only blame my anger on the malfunctioning piece of junk behind me and not the several other reasons i was plotting murder in my head.
with a gentle smile and a soft chuckle he placed his hand to the back of his head, rubbing at the baby jade hairs of his undercut. “i see. bad days happen to the best of us.” he replied, his voice like honey.
i became drunk on the minor interaction he was giving me, bringing me back to the beginning days at this job where we would spend late nights trying to keep each other awake under the only singular yellow light as we finished paperwork. or where sometimes he’d invite me to spend lunch with him as he felt he’d enjoy the company.
i got lost in the intricacies of his face as he tampered with the printer. thin eyebrows furrowed in concentration, bottom lip captured between his thick scarred fingers as he muttered to himself.
i fell in a trance, locked on the slope of his button nose, his gemstone eyes, and chubby caramel cheeks dusted in freckles.
he looked essentially like the same boy i saw on the screen all those years ago, yet matured and hardened by the realities of life.
i wanted nothing more than to reach out and protect him any way my small quirkless body could. to be there for him the same way he was for everyone else.
he eventually got the printer to work with a boyish smile on his face as he told me that despite the good roughing up i gave the machine, he was able to locate and handle the issue. “next time, skip the punching and come find me, yeah? i’ll help with any problems you face.” he joked as he made his way into his office to resume his work.
i didn’t know it was possible to fall harder for that man, but he proved with every day of his existence that the impossible didn’t apply to him.
i was finally able to get some sleep the next few nights as my eyelids filled with the blush on his cheekbones and his gaze of concentration.
but my trip to cloud 9 didn’t last very long as the occasional meeting with uraraka became trips to her agency, and occasional meetings in civilian clothes to civilian places, like coffee shops and corner stores.
to anyone else, those would read as dates. to me, they read as dates. but izuku assured the gossiping sidekicks that it was strictly professional ~ nothing more, nothing less.
i knew that i would end up with more fits of restlessness and sleepless nights as i pictured the two of them laughing over a cup of coffee. so i sought out a replacement.
a moment. a look. a sentence.
anything directed at me that would choke out the ugly thoughts and images my brain would show me of the two of them together.
so that afternoon as i brought him his lunch, i placed the box safely onto the table beside him as he continued skimming through the papers littered across the desk.
he muttered a small ‘thank you’ but it wasn’t enough. as my hand moved to place his drink that i held in my other hand next to his food, a different idea popped in my head.
my hand moved faster than my brain could register what it had just planned to do. squeezing just enough for the lid to pop off and slip from my fingers to tumble into his lap.
as soon as the liquid and ice hit his lap he flew up from his seat and away from his desk.
my hands flew up to my mouth as a string of apologies fell from my lips. eyes watering in guilt as they moved around the room trying to locate something to soak up the mess with.
“i am so sorry, my fingers slipped and before i knew it i had lost control of the cup. i-i can’t tell you how sorry i am.” i rambled as i took my blazer off to wipe at the wet stains starting to form at the bottom of his teal suit.
“hey, hey, hey.” he said softly, taking my tinier hands into his large and battered ones. warmth enveloped my clutched sticky hands as he gently urged me to stand from my crouching position in front of him.
“it was an accident. no harm, no foul.” he said with a soft smile.
i should feel bad, as it wasn’t entirely an accident. but the warm and gentle look in his eyes made what little guilt i felt crumble away.
his thumbs rubbing soft circles to my skin as he worked to get the tears to stop streaming from my eyes was enough to get me to sleep like a baby for a good 2 weeks.
until it became a cycle. he would spend too much time around uraraka, and then i would do something all in the name of garnering his attention back on me.
was it wrong of me to do, to take advantage of his kindness? to take advantage of the fact that he was naive to my true intentions? maybe.
but i felt i deserved it. i felt i deserved to be looked at the same way he looked at her.
i wasn’t any different than she was. with the way she used her big brown eyes to pull him in. or the way her cute behavior made him blush. or the way her sweet way of talking made him laugh.
i can’t be her, or compare to her. so i found my own way around it. and no one could fault me for doing so. they just couldn’t.
at the end of the mission, uravity decided to throw a party in celebration of their win. a nice formal gathering, with everyone she had involved.
when izuku pulled me aside one late night to tell me that he was extending the invitation to me felt akin to a marriage proposal.
i wasn’t involved much in the case, merely being used as the one who provided them their lunch on their long meeting days. or filing and organizing the paperwork and notes that they would compile. i wasn’t out in the field, breaking bones like izuku or saving lives like uraraka.
i didn’t deserve to go, but i didn’t care. izuku had invited me personally and damn it, i was gonna be there.
yet, i shouldn’t have gone.
i shouldn’t have spent the hours on my makeup. i shouldn’t have enlisted the help of my best friend to do my hair as i gushed about how izuku had personally invited me, how he was the most perfect man ever, and how i was undoubtedly in love with him.
i shouldn’t have spent the week leading up to the event going from shop to shop trying to find the prettiest dress that was just the exact color of his eyes. i shouldn’t have spent about half my paycheck on said dress when i found it.
i shouldn’t have decided to face my fears and step out of my comfort zone to join a group of heroes that i knew were old classmates of izuku’s as they whispered about something that clearly was a raving topic.
because then i wouldn’t have heard how izuku was planning on confessing to uraraka. i wouldn’t have heard how this mission caused old high school feelings to rekindle. i should have known my place.
and that was far away from here, from the hero scene. i should have grown up to be an accountant or a chef.
when my father took me to get that checkup when i was 5, to confirm that there truly resides no quirk inside me.
i should have left it at that.
when i was riding my bike that day as a first year and i saw the group of boys huddled around a screen as they tuned into the u-a sports festival, i should have kept riding.
as maybe it would have saved me a lot of pain.
i backed away slowly, heels tapping against the tile floor as i hurried out of the building.
i didn’t realize how suffocated i felt until the chilly autumn hair brushed my face and into my lungs.
my whole body felt hot, i felt numb. i stumbled onto the sidewalk as i looked into the dark azure sky glittered with stars.
the tears finally spilled from my eyes as the stars muddled together into a messy blur. my stomach swirled and tensed as pit of nausea sunk in my stomach.
my chest heaved as it tried to process the crisp cold air into oxygen, but my throat was too tight to let much in.
i gasped and sobbed as my back hit the brick behind me, my legs wobbling unable to carry my weight much longer.
i slid into a crouched position as my tears mixed with the black of my mascara. streaming in pools down my cheeks, neck, and chest.
in the midst of my sobbing and heaving, i called my friend who was still at my apartment awaiting details of that night when i came home.
knowing it was far too early for me to be calling her she picked up the phone with confusion. it didn’t take much words from me, not like i gave her much, to convince her that she needed to come pick me up.
as she hung up the phone, my hand slipped from my ear, falling limp to my side as i placed my head into my other arm resting atop my knees.
this was inevitable and i knew it. no matter how many ways i was able to manipulate a sweet glance from him, it didn’t mean anything.
izuku was nice to everybody. sweet to everyone. kind to anyone.
but with her, it was different. he treated her that way, not because he had to, but because he wanted to.
they had years of memories, of laughs. they were perfect for each other, both smart, and kind, and always looking to help others. never acting selfishly or for personal gain.
they shared soft touches like they did old stories. they looked at each other with the same respect and admiration.
i was wrong. uraraka and i are nothing alike. she didn’t have to beg izuku to look at her like she hung the moon, he did so without asking.
unbeknownst to me, as i was manipulating izuku into these fabricated moments of gentle gazes and kind words, i was manipulating myself.
lying to the deepest parts of me that knew that this wasn’t real. that i wasn’t her. that he didn’t think of us the same way.
to him, uraraka is an old friend, who views the world the same way he does, who shares his same passions, who built her quirk to do some good within this world.
to him, i was a coffee-getter, the girl who knew his lunch orders like the back of her hand, the girl who filed his papers. the quirkless little fangirl who practically begged him to give her a job under him.
i heard the metal door open and snap shut announcing that someone was now outside with me. however, i just assumed it was a party-goer stepping outside for a smoke or a phone call so i didn’t bother to look up.
i also wasn’t in the mood for if the person happened to be a drunk girl who was ready to become my therapist as she saw me crouched on the sidewalk wishing to become one with the cement and simply cease to exist.
“there you are, i was wondering where you went?”
i would have taken the amateur therapist over this.
the voice belonged to izuku, dripping with sugar and default kindness.
if i could become one with the bricks just a little bit faster that would be great.
“hey, are you alright?” his tone became worried but i still didn’t dare to look up from my arms.
“do you feel sick? did something happen? do i need to take you home?” there he goes, into hero mode. ready to drop anything to help anyone facing the slightest of inconveniences.
“please just leave me alone.” i mumbled, throat tight and voice wavering as i try to hold the tears that still remain to fall.
“what did you say? i didn’t quite hear you.” he said softly, gently setting his large hands onto my exposed shoulder.
they should feel like welcoming warmth, but instead they felt blistering hot as i shoved them away as quickly as i could.
“i said leave me alone.” i said, slightly louder as i no longer was stuffed in my arms and knees.
he immediately saw the mess my face was in, i could tell by the way he quickly reverted fully into deku.
“hey, what’s wrong? whatever it is, i can help. didn’t i say you could come to me whenever you ne-“
“oh my god just stop! i can’t take it anymore.” i snapped, finally able to look him in the face.
but not for long as i saw the same look on his complexion as the first time i snapped at him.
“you’re too fucking nice. leaving you vulnerable for people to take advantage of you. giving them a reason to be selfish.”
“i dont-“ he tried to start but i cut him off.
“i don’t need a hero, izuku. there are people you just can’t save.”
as he worked to wrap his head around what was happening, my friend pulled up in my getaway car.
i bent down and grabbed my purse, but before i could fully escape this night, izuku grabbed my wrist causing me to stare into his eyes.
now lit aflame with desperation, “please just tell me what’s wrong. let me help you.” he encouraged softly.
but i wasn’t going to fall for it, not again.
i wasn’t gonna be played for the fool as i took the soft look in his eyes for anything but the gaze of a hero hoping to add another save to their statistics.
“god you never know when to quit!” i yelled as i yanked my wrist back. “and i hate that i-“
loved that about you?
no, love that about you.
i shook my head, thankful that for once my brain caught my actions before i spilled and made a mess again.
i walked quickly to the car, opening the passenger door almost as fast in hopes that within its metal sanctuary i could finally escape this hell.
“y/n- i-“
“mr. midoriya.” i just about whispered, my energy long since drained.
he laughed gently and i cursed the way my heart squeezed a little at the sound.
still head over heels for the angelic sound.
“you haven’t called me that in a long-“
“i quit.”
“w-what?” he muttered in disbelief.
i wouldn’t believe it either, not after the way i came to him nearly 4 years ago saying i would even be willing to clean toilets if he asked me to, so long as i got to work for him.
“i quit.” i repeated.
“you don’t mean that.”
he’s right i didn’t, not really.
hot tears started to dribble as my lower lip puckered in a sour quiver.
“no i do, sir.” i shook. “i will send someone to collect my things on monday.”
and with that i closed the door.
“drive.” i whispered to my friend who after a moment of looking at me, trying to read me, silently put the car into drive and started forward.
leaving izuku behind to stumble after the car, mouth muttering, trying to form any sort of sentence or sense.
but i couldn’t see him, knowing not to look at the mirrors situated on the side of the vehicle.
for they too are liars, as objects in the mirror are farther than they appear.

hey uh. wanted a quick writing exercise so here’s some boo chronicles: part i from zuko’s pov
—————
It’s not the first time he’s been slumped over his kitchen island at a stupid hour, eyes drying out as his tries to finish yet another dull paper by someone who’s allegedly smart enough to be relevant to his field, and it’s also far from the last time he’ll do this, but that doesn’t mean Zuko can’t huff about it. As his eyes glaze over another paragraph, he absently taps out a text to Sokka, because Sokka always has something funny to say about whatever’s on Zuko’s mind—even his petty complaints.
He’s just set his phone facedown on the counter again when his text tone dings. Zuko blinks. Sokka’s never up at this hour, but …
like u wouldn’t kiss bersani’s gravehole
Zuko smiles and shifts his thumb to slide the text open when another message appears with a chime: hey. would u be my pretend boyf plus-one for a wedding in two weeks?
He drops his phone, shooting upright in his seat and staring at his cell warily.
That’s. That’s one hell of a loaded, unexpected question.
Except Sokka doesn’t know about Zuko’s feelings for him. Zuko’s continued to treat one of his best friends like a best friend, because … because. Because Zuko knows he had his chance when they first met, seven years ago, but Zuko wasn’t ready for Sokka and wasn’t ready for anyone, really. And then Sokka moved on and that was fine, really, because this thing between them is as profound as Zuko’s relationship with Mai or Azula or Ty Lee, and Zuko wouldn’t trade it for the world.
He picks up his phone and replies, what?
A second later, a photo of Sokka wearing a bucket hat and sunglasses as he pretends to kiss a fish he’s caught flashes onto Zuko’s screen. Sokka hates that Zuko chose this photo for his contact; he thinks it makes him look like a straight man on a dating app. Zuko has to remind him that Sokka’s the one who sent him this photo in the first place.
Zuko picks up the incoming call and immediately gets an earful of Sokka. “—be the ultimate flex of a significant other on an ex. You’re, like, the most thoughtful, big-hearted person I know, and you’re beautiful and fashionable and accomplished. You’re going to be world-renowned famous in, like, two years.”
Sokka’s always been too generous when it comes to characterizing Zuko, but that doesn’t stop the flutter in his gut. It’s a flutter that tends to rise into Zuko’s throat, making his words catch and give him away when Zuko really doesn’t want to confess to anything, so he breathes steadily and waits until the feeling subsides before he asks the logical question: “Why not Suki?”
“Suki and Zahra are almost the same person,” Sokka answers without missing a beat, “so Zahra would just take pity on Suki and shake her head at me. But she’d think you’re wildly out of my league—”
“I’m not,” Zuko automatically refutes, even as he’s thinking, Of course, Zahra. Sometimes, when he’s not thinking like a kind and generous person, he wishes Zahra were an awful human being so he could properly hate her for the ringer she put Sokka through. She’s not, though—she and Sokka were just the maybe-right people and the definitely-wrong time—so Zuko’s left with nothing more than Of course, Zahras and a heightened awareness of Sokka whenever she’s brought up.
Sokka’s still going. “—and thereby infer that I’ve grown as a person since she dumped me, and then she might even question whether walking away from me was the right choice.”
It was three years ago, and Sokka put himself back together a while back, but sometimes something slips through the cracks.
“To be clear,” Zuko says—encourages a reaffirmation, really—“Her walking away from you was the right choice. Right?”
A sigh, and then an exhaled, “Yeah.”
He wishes he could see Sokka’s face. Usually, he can read Sokka from just the tone of his voice, but one word doesn’t give him much. “Sokka, you aren’t asking me to do this just because there’s a chance you’ll feel a brief sense of victory over someone you’re actually perfectly cordial friends with … are you?”
“No,” Sokka immediately says. “I’m asking because there’s no one I’d rather have by my side than you.”
Zuko’s throat tightens.
It took him a stupidly long time, really, to realize that words don’t mean the same thing to other people as they do to him. He used to get caught up in and read into word choice and modifier placement and goddamn commas to try to understand exactly what other people meant, but it wasn’t until Mai snapped at him, once, during their senior year of high school, “For fuck’s sake, Zuko, I sent t-h-x instead of thanks because it’s quicker, not because I secretly hate you,” that he learned that words are just plain words to most people.
So he knows that Sokka doesn’t mean that he wants Zuko with him first and foremost at all times. That’s just Zuko’s literary brain slathering layers of meaning and significance onto a sentence that Sokka meant in a very, ordinary, unexceptional way.
There’s still a small part of him, though—a part he’s working on—that needs to check anyway. “As emotional support,” he says, curling and uncurling the corner of his printed article with his fingertip.
“Yes.”
“Okay.”
There’s a pause before Sokka echoes, “Okay?”
Of course, okay. Sokka wants him there, and besides, no one reads Sokka as well as Zuko does, and he doesn’t think even Suki knows the full extent of the Zahra thing. He doesn’t want to send Sokka spiraling, though, so he directs them in a safer direction: planning. “You said it’s two weeks from now?” he asks.
“Yeah, on Saturday—you’re sure?”
Sokka’s hesitation never fails to baffle Zuko. The man has always radiated steadiness, and he’s been the stalwart of their ever-evolving group of friends since forever, so much so that it took Zuko a while to parse why Sokka was ever hesitant. Now that he understands that aspect of Sokka, though, whenever his uncertainty crops up, Zuko just wants to fight anything that’s ever held his friend back. No one deserves to thrive and grow more than Sokka.
“Why would I say okay if I was’t sure?” Zuko replies.
Sokka clears his throat. “Great,” he says and then surges on. “Uh, it’s in Montreal. I don’t know what your work schedule is like, but I was planning on taking Friday off to drive up, and then come back on Sunday—”
“Works for me,” Zuko interrupts the rising ramble. He has a couple meetings, on Friday, but meetings can be made up. This can’t. “We can take my car, if you want,” he offers, because he’s actually parked in the city and certainly gets better gas mileage than Sokka.
“Actually—yeah. That’d be great.”
Zuko can tell Sokka’s mind is elsewhere, so he waits. Sure enough, he clears his throat again. “The pretend boyfriend thing … We don’t—we don’t have to do it. Bottom line, I’d just like it if you were there.”
“Are you backing out?” Zuko teases before he catches himself, and fuck, okay. There’s no going back now. But that’s fine, because he’s an adult, and he’s equipped to deal with this. They might even be able to have fun with it. “Let’s do it. I bet we can get her to second-guess herself for at least a second.”
He can hear the smile in Sokka’s voice when he agrees, “Okay.” A few clicks make it through the line; Sokka must be working with some data. “I think I should get to bed. This data set won’t process faster just because I’m watching it.”
“I wondered why you were awake right now.”
“Enjoy the Bersani booty-lickers.”
Zuko sighs—the rectum essay isn’t the only thing that Bersani’s contributed to the field—and Sokka snickers. He should let Sokka go, since his friend really isn’t a night owl, but there’s something still tickling the back of his mind. “Sokka?” he asks.
“Yeah?”
He finally grasps the thought. “You have grown as a person. Since the stuff with Zahra happened.”
It takes Sokka a moment to respond. “Thanks. I’ll see you soon.”
His voice is soft, in a way that it rarely is around the rest of their friends, and fuck, Zuko’s throat is acting up again. “Get some rest,” he manages and then hangs up.
This time, he intentionally drops his phone on the counter, and his forehead follows soon after. The marble is cool against his skin, and he breathes deeply against the racing of his own heart. He’s doing this, he reminds himself, because he’s the best person to help Sokka in this situation.
It’s incidental that he’s powerless to the urge to remind Sokka, in every way he knows how, that Sokka deserves to shine his brightest self at all times.

Haikyu Headcanons
Confessions!
Featuring: Iwaizumi Hajime and Oikawa Tooru
Warnings: N/A
A/N: Hey besties! Been a bit since the last post but school is almost done so be prepared for more headcanons soon!
~
IWAIZUMI HAJIME
you are the same year in high school and manage the aoba johsai volleyball club
you are great friends with the group of four (oikawa, iwa, matsun and makki) and spend a lot of time with them
like a lot: lunches, practices, walking to and from school together, classes, etc.
Iwa and yourself are in the same class and often spend breaks in between practice sets going over homework
you start to catch some feelings after two years, and the other three can see that both of you are dancing around it
you never catch the way his face heats up, or how he starts to rub the back of his neck nervously when you get a little too close
one day makki and matsun confront you about it in a private group chat, and you tell them all about it
they won't ever let you live down how you started to talk about how cute he is when he's angry
they start to hype you up knowing full well that Iwa feels the same
at the same time oikawa teases iwa, even going as far as saying that he might just have to snatch you up if he takes too long
that went over great
anyways, you finally build up enough courage to write Iwa a love letter
you made sure everything was pristine: making sure it wouldn't crease in your backpack and folding the papers just right
right before practice was about to start for the day, makki and matsun give you a little push and a thumbs up as you make your way over to Iwa
he's by himself in the storage room, getting the ball carts ready and you step in
with two hands, you extend the letter in his direction
there's nothing written on the front of it, and you can see Iwa deflate
it makes you panic big time
he takes it with one hand and mutters out "i'll give it to Oikawa later"
before it fully sets in what he said, he pushes past you onto the court
"wait!" you quickly grab his shoulder and now all eyes are on you two
he stops his movements and looks confused
"it's for you, idiot"
you look a little hurt, but it goes away quickly once you see his entire face turn beet red
makki and matsun start to laugh their asses off while oikawa just says "i told you guys" not knowing they pushed you to do it
iwa ended up reading the letter right after practice, and you walked home hand in hand :)
OIKAWA TOORU
(this is so long smh)
You guys were friends in hs, being the volleyball manager, and were a part of the third year group of friends
Iwa, Oikawa and yourself all decided to attend the same college but you all lived in different apartments
you all owned a key to each others places tho
ANYWAYS, Tooru didn’t know how to feel about anything (i.e. his feelings for you) and decided to be a total fuckboy his first year and had a FWB
He ended up ditching on a lot of your guys’ hang outs, and both Hajme and yourself got upset
Sometime during your first year you let it slip to Iwa that you had a big fat crush on Oikawa, but he promised he wouldn’t intervene
You rarely saw Tooru at this point, and you would cry in Hajime’s arms on some nights
Second year rolls around and Iwa knows you’re getting tired of waiting, and he can see you switch from sad to frustrated and angry
Oikawa’s still kind of fucking around until Hajme demands to talk to him
Scared out of his mind, they meet up and Iwa warns him that he’s going to start losing people in his life if he doesn’t fix his attitude and figure things out
In the moment, tooru doesn’t react, but when he gets home he thinks about it more
He calls off the FWB thing and tells himself he’s going to be a better friend and figure out how to properly confess to you
It’s been a couple weeks since than and the three of you decide to hang out
Iwa tells you that he thinks tooru is really changing for the better, and it really gets your hopes up. That things will be normal again
Welp…. Tooru cancels 20 minutes after he was supposed to meet up with the two of you at Iwa’s place and you feel an unbridled rage crawl out from your stomach
It comes out in tears and screaming as Iwa holds you tight, wanting to rip Oikawa a new one
Suddenly you whip out your phone and proceed in writing a text to Oikawa
It reads: “I’m so fucking tired Tooru. I’m done with these games and I’m done with you.”
Or something along those lines.
Iwa sees what you’re doing and tries to get you to think before you hit send, but it’s too late and you grab your belongings and leave the apartment
Iwa is stunned - you’ve never really been one to act on emotions or lash out and it takes him a few minutes to realize what’s happening
The only thing that breaks him from his trance is his phone buzzing with a call from Oikawa
On the line, his voice is shaky and he’s panicking about the text, asking where you are and what’s going on.
Iwa’s pissed and tells him how bad he fucked up, possibly for the last time, as he describes the events to his best friend
He also says that he doesn’t know where you are, and you won’t respond to his texts
Without a moment of hesitation, Tooru grabs his car keys and goes to check all of your usual spots: Your apartment, the school library, your favorite coffee shop, the gymnasium, the bench in the middle of campus that you’ve dubbed “your bench”
But you’re not there
You’re not at any of those spots and Oikawa keeps checking in with Hajme, who is continuously calling you and guarding your apartment just in case
Nothing
Not for an hour or two
Until, oikawa’s just driving around when he sees you walking down a street.
You don’t have any earbuds in and it's obvious you’ve been out in the cold, crying for a while
“Y/N!” he shouts from the car, slowing it to match your pace, but you ignore him, wishing he would just drive away
He begs you to get into the car
You ignore him
This goes on for a few minutes before he throws his car into park, in the middle of the street and you give in as he’s taking off his seat belt
Silently, you hop into the car, placing the buckle around your waist and stare out of the window
He wants to say something so bad be he knows it’s not the time and he starts to drive you home
Hajime sits on the staircase, looking up when he hears a car door shut. You walk to the front door, avoiding both of their gazes as you place the key into the lock
“Hey…” Iwa places a hand on your shoulder, but you yank it away and shoot him a glare. The door slams in his face right as Tooru walks up next to him, silent tears stream down his face.
Iwa lets Tooru drive him home, and they sit together in his living room all night talking about what happened. Hajime doesn’t chew him out about it, because he can tell Oikawa is sorry from the violent tears that rip through him the second he’s in a safe space.
“How do I fix this?”
“I don’t know…”
A few days pass, and neither has heard from you
Concern bubbles in the pits of their stomachs, but Iwa decides he should go check first
With a small knock, he announces that he’s coming in and unlocks your front door.
The apartment is a mess, trash everywhere, dishes piled in and next to the sink and you: sitting under a pile of blankets, eyes red and swollen.
His heart sinks and you cry harder once you see his frown deepen.
You both hug for some time, Iwa staying silent until you’re ready to talk.
That never happens, but he helps clean your apartment and orders some healthy food for the two of you.
He knows that you’ve turned off your phone and you only leave the house for school and work since you haven’t responded to anyone
Over the next week and a half, he comes by every few days to check in, clean, and drop off some groceries
You look a little worse every time he does
And he tells Oikawa, who’s drowning in guilt
Maybe if he had just confessed at high school graduation like he said he would, this wouldn’t have happened…..
The updates from Iwa made him happy that you were still alive, but tore him apart because of what he did to you
Two weeks after that night, he decided that he’d had enough, and heads over to your house
He knocks and enters without saying anything, and the same sight that greeted Hajme greets him
It’s just messier and your eyes had sunken in, with dark bags hanging underneath them
You were lying on the couch, covered in blankets and crying, which causes him to start crying
You turn to face who entered (you assumed it was Iwa) but a scowl makes its way onto your face once you realize who it is
Tooru sobs harder, slowly making his way to the couch and sitting on the opposite end, not daring to touch you.
Your voice is gruff and scratchy, asking him what he wants and he just cries even harder
A few minutes pass as he calms down, then he explains everything
How he’s been in love with you since high school, how he planned to confess but chickened out, how he didn’t know what to do about his emotions and instead ran away, how he found comfort in other people, how he thought the best thing for you would be to leave him
He rambles on for a long time, but his thoughts only cause confusion for you
“I can’t trust you until you prove it to me, Oikawa”
“I know, but I’ll make it up to you. I promise”
“Don’t make promises - prove it.”
The night ends with silent agreements and affirmations that things will be better.
He leaves for the night, kissing the back of your hand before leaving
For the first time in weeks you checked your phone and caught up with everything, and Hajime was happy that you were back
When you returned from school, your apartment was cleaned and there was food in the fridge. A single rose sat on the countertop with a little note: “I’ve always loved your smile”
The next day, you return from a shift at work, and another rose had been added to the vase, a different note sat on the counter: “You always know exactly what to say”
This continues on for weeks
Roses being added to the vase, and a note written on them.
Hang outs had resumed between the three of you, albeit a little awkward, but it was nice to see everyone back together.
You confront Tooru after 3 weeks of nonstop roses and tell him that you’re ready to move forward with him.
The smile he gave you that day is unforgettable, and he tells you to take the next saturday off
He spends the whole day with you
He sneaks into your apartment early and makes you breakfast in bed
You spend the morning talking and watching tv
Then he takes you out for shopping and lunch, with a little walk in the park since it’s so nice outside
Later that evening you return back to your apartment, and a pillow fort, decorated with fairy lights and blankets sat facing the television
(thank you Iwa-chan!)
You spend the rest of the night snacking and talking while one of Tooru’s awful alien documentaries plays in the background.
He kisses you when you’re cuddling up next to each other, and you pull him in for so many more after that
The two of you fall asleep in the fort in one another's arms
How's that for a first date?

What About Us? Part II: Oikawa x Male Reader
Here is the second part of the Oikawa x Male reader I posted the other week. Wasn’t satisfied leaving it where it was.
Again, if you aren’t ahead in the manga there are spoilers. Enjoy.
“Iwa-chan, I have to get this done!”
“No. You need a break Y/n.” Iwaizumi said, pulling Y/n away from his computer and through his pigsty apartment.
“But Iwaizumi, just another thirty minutes...no, just another hour and I can be done with this piece,” Y/n whined, pulling back towards his pc.
“Y/n, we agreed to meet with Hanamaki and Matsukawa for lunch. We would’ve been there already, but I swear you’re as bad as Trashykawa, forgetting everything except your art.”
“Just a little bit, I just need a little more time,” Y/n pleaded, trying to pull away from Iwaizumi.
“Y/n. I will carry your ass outside and drag you by your ear.”
“But Iwa-chan…”
“Now,” he said, arms crossed, exasperated as if he was dealing with a child. He probably was. Y/n wilted under Iwaizumi’s gaze, and slowly got up, shoulders slouched. Iwaizumi hung his arm around him.
“It’ll be fine. Some time with friends will do you good.
Giving d/n a pat goodbye, Y/n let Iwaizumi lead the way to the restaurant they had promised to meet their friends. Taking a deep breath of fresh air, Y/n’s eyes gazed at the surrounding cityscape, the final vestiges of winter fading away as the new birth of spring sprouted forward. Iwaizumi was right; he needed a break. Though he’d never admit it to his friend. Even his walks with d/n have been little more than fever dreams to him, everything was focused back on his work.
“Man, it's nice out. You should have told me the weather was this great,” Y/n teased knowing full well Iwaizumi had done just that.
Iwaizumi stopped and stared deadpan at Y/n. He’d forgotten that Y/n was sometimes just as bad as Oikawa, well, not quite as bad. At least, he’s gotten worse ever since they left high school. Iwaizumi always let it slide; he figured it was how Y/n dealt with all the stress piling up on him. Y/n was always cheerful, and a bit of a tease, but Iwaizumi knew that more often than not, it was a façade, a smokescreen. He was hiding his pain, just like he did in high school. Iwaizumi wasn’t fooled however.
“You’re really tired, aren’t you?”
“Huh? No more than normal,” Y/n said, that ghost of a smile returning to his face. “Why’d you ask? Worried about me?”
“Yes, I am. Trashykawa told me how you’ve been working yourself into a mental breakdown,”
“Oikawa, that snitch!” Y/n cursed under his breath. He should have known Tooru was going to rat on him to Iwaizumi.
“Yea, he is, but you really can’t keep on like this. Ever since he went back to Argentina you’ve been even more of a recluse. You barely even check your texts!” Iwaizumi said
Y/n sighed, letting his walls lip for a moment. Iwaizumi was right. He was always consumed with work. He loved his aft, his animation. He loved that his work was enjoyed and held dear to thousands around the world. Despite the high demands of his employers, and the fact he barely survives week to week, he still loved art. But now it was something else.
Ever since he had met Tooru that winter, it's like he was woken up from a trance. After they left high school, all throughout college, everything had happened so fast. His mother sick, his father leaving; Y/n was exhausted and broken down. Before Oikawa showed up, he was barely alive, just walking through each day, one after the other, barely recognizing the world around him. He had lost so much, and, Y/n admitted, work allowed him an excuse to bury his exhaustion and pain deep inside, trapped behind a wall so thick he became numb to the emotions roiling inside of him. His pain and tears hidden away, his work was the perfect escape, despite the endless tasks his job required. It was his way to shy away from the world. Better to be busy than alone.
It wasn’t that he didn’t cry, or feel the loss of his family, he just didn’t want to confront it, not alone like he was. He didn’t want to feel so hollow, so torn, alone. So he worked, and worked, until Tooru showed up on his evening walk one winter day, and the dam that had begun to leak from overwork and exhaustion burst. His memories and old feelings he left unresolved boiling to the surface. And now he couldn’t get his mind off of Oikawa. Oikawa, who sent him a text encouraging him each day, a word of support awaiting him on his phone each morning as he woke.
And every week, Tooru found time to call him, sharing volleyball stories and giving Y/n a chance to destress from work. Each call happened during Y/n’s waking hours, which meant Oikawa must have been getting up at ungodly hours just for a chat. With Y/n’s unresolved feelings with Tooru came all his damned emotions, threatening to tear him apart, and the last thing he wanted to do was show weakness to his friends again.
So, Y/n did the only thing he knew, throwing himself into a job that was slowly killing him. He stopped responding immediately to Oikawa’s morning texts. He let the past two calls go to voicemail. Too busy with work, deadlines with animes being pushed up. He could talk next week.
Y/n vaguely remembered talking with Oikawa for a few minutes before making a weak excuse about work again. In truth, he really didn’t want to handle these emotions right now, and as stressful as work could be, his art allowed him to be numb and bury them all away.  But since Tooru kept coming back, it was getting harder and harder to hold them in check.
“You know Y/n, you’re going to have to deal with your feelings and emotions eventually,” Iwaizumi said
Y/n stumbled, “What? What do you mean?”
“Even a blind man can see that you’re hiding your feelings for Oikawa behind your work. You’ve done that for years. You’re going to have to face him eventually.” Iwaizumi said, shrugging. Perhaps Y/n wasn’t as good an actor as he thought.
“This coming from you? All your emotion is wrapped up in violence,” Y/n scoffed.
“At least I’m a stable, functioning adult.”
“Hey! I’m functioning!” Y/n argued
“You’d forget to buy food if I didn’t stop around every once and a while.”
“That only happened once!”
“It’s not my fault the two of you have the emotional intelligence of a toddler.” Iwaizumi said
“Iwa-chan, so mean” Y/n whined in imitation of Oikawa
“Don’t be like him or I’ll whack you!” Iwaizumi laughed, “Anyways, you really are going to need to find some way to work through your emotions. You’ve held in everything that’s happened since high school and your mother’s death. Consider this an intervention.”
“I know,” Y/n said, aware that he was right. “Food first. Emotions can wait.” Forever, if Y/n had his choice. “How’s work with the national team going?”
“It’s busy. Honestly, I’m always a little worried that Ushijima is going to break Hinata’s face one of these days at the rare times the team is actually together.”
“Must be fun though,” Y/n hummed.
Y/n let Iwaizumi ramble on about his work, glad to be off the topic of the emotional wreck that is his life. He didn’t really listen, and he knew Iwaizumi could tell, but he couldn’t focus on the words. Oikawa was back in his head, and he kept wondering when he’d be able to move past it all.
By the time they made their way to the restaurant, Maki and Mattsun were already there. They already had drinks. Apparently they’d been waiting a while. How late was he? As he went to sit next to Iwaizumi, Makki was already teasing him.
“You know, I remember when you’d get all flustered why you were even a minute late to class,”
Y/n blushed, “Oh shut up Makki. At least I passed all my classes. What was your Algebra II grade again?”
“He’s right. Remember when Y/n panicked when he forgot about the English test?” Mattsun said,
“Oh, I won’t forget that,” Iwaizumi laughed, slapping Y/n on the back, “Was so afraid of failing he skipped class, hiding in a broom closet, and somehow managed to lock himself in.”
“Stop it!” Y/n whined, “I left my work for this!” The others just laughed. It was all in good fun, he knew.
As their food came and went, Y/n allowed himself to step away from work and enjoy an afternoon with old friends. He still kept his walls up though. He was strong enough to not fall apart in front of his friends.
“So how is Oikawa?” Mattsun asked, bringing up the topic that Y/n had been purposely avoiding for the entire lunch.
“He’s fine, I guess.” Y/n said, “Big game coming up in a week or two.”
“You guess? Aren’t you talking to him every week?” Makki asked
“Y/n here has been ghosting him because he’s afraid that he likes him again,” Iwaizumi teased
“Iwa-chan, stop it!”
“Oh, stop pretending you don’t care for him. We can all tell you’re still inexplicably obsessed with Oikawa.”
“Stop it!” Y/n begged, a slight blush forming, “Can we change the topic. Please?”
“Ok, we’ll stop teasing you. For now.” Iwaizumi said, as Y/n nodded gratefully.
Y/n left the restaurant with Iwaizumi, heading back to take d/n for his afternoon walk to the park.
“What are you going to do Y/n? You really can’t keep on like this.”
“I know. I’ll figure something out. Thanks Iwa-chan,”
“I can walk with you and d/n for a bit if you want,” Iwaizumi said, “I have nothing else planned today,”
“No thanks. I need to think this through on my own,” Y/n said, waving farewell to Iwaizumi.
And then he was alone again, walking d/n down the very path that brought him to his fateful reunion with this old boyfriend, and shattered the illusion he had been living under. If he could even call it living.
“What do I do, d/n?” Y/n whispered, scratching the dog’s ears before throwing his tennis ball again, watching d/n rush through the dog park after it.
I still like him. God I don’t want to feel like this anymore.
Y/n took a seat on the new spring growth of grass as d/n came bounding back to him. The animal, sensing Y/n’s discomfort, sat down next to him and dropped his head on Y/n’s shoulder.
Y/n chuckled, scratching his ears again, “Thanks d/n.”
Sitting together with d/n, Y/n knew what he had to do. Before he did anything else, he needed to resolve things with Oikawa, however they played out. He took out his phone and rang Iwaizumi. He was going to need a big favor.
Oikawa sat down in the locker room before the game. It was the biggest game of the year. Biggest game since the Olympics the previous summer. This game would decide if him and his team would enter into the Men's Volleyball Club World Championship Tournament. Tobio was sure to be there. Oikawa would too, in order to show his former underclassmen that he was now the superior setter.
Yet for the first time, his mind wasn’t entirely on the game. No matter how he tried to settle in and prepare as normal, his thoughts drifted back to Y/n./ Y/n had been ghosting him. Not fully, but even when they did talk, he had been distant and full of excuses in order to slip away. And then suddenly he texted saying they had something they needed to talk about.
Oikawa was worried. Has something happened? Had he pushed too hard? He wanted to give him space, but he was worried for his old friend. His love. Was Y/n okay, or was it that he just didn’t want to talk with Oikawa anymore? Was their relationship truly and fully broken? Never had Oikawa been so distracted from volleyball. He knew he dealt with the break up by throwing himself further into the game. But now that he’d had that chance meeting, he couldn’t deny it; he still loved Y/n. Because no matter what happened, he was always the one who supported his volleyball dream, and was there for every win and every loss. He left the locker room, his thoughts still lost and confused.
Y/n cheered, poster in hand, as the players emerged onto the court to warm up. He had watched the Olympic games, but this was his first time seeing a league game. It’s not like they showed Argentine Volleyball League games in Japan. When the game started, he only had eyes for Oikawa
Tooru’s game was off. Y/n could tell that something was bothering him. He could see him make mistakes, however slight, preventing his team from getting into a rhythm. A toss too high, one too close to the net. The game was still close, but Tooru’s team just couldn’t seem to take the lead. Y/n felt a little guilty. Was it him, his ghosting, his late night message, throwing his old friend off?
It can’t be. Nothing has ever broken his focus from Volleyball before…
Oikawa muttered to himself. He wasn’t playing well. By no means was it bad, but his tosses refused to leave his hands the way they should. They were always just a touch off. Too low here, too far from the net there. And then he’d scramble, overcompensating for the next one. And his team became unhinged.
Their receives became shaky, and their spikes wild as they began to rush. A setter's job was to restore balance to his team. That’s what Blanco would have done. But today, Oikawa was spinning them closer and closer to disaster. He was the farthest he’d ever been from reaching his goal. He couldn’t get Y/n off his mind. Even his serves faltered.
They went down the first set. It was okay. It was only one set. The second they brought to a deuce, but fell a few rallies later. His chances of making the Club World Championship this year slipping further and further away. And still Y/n invaded his thoughts. They’d have to be perfect the rest of the match.
But things started off the same way. Oikawa’s first serve slamming down just outside the line. 0-1. The next few rallies were short, but slowly and surely they fell behind. 7-9. Oikawa’s toss went just a breadth too high again, and the spike was dug, blasting back down on their side of the court. 7-10. The serve came at them, their libero flying it high up above the team. A good receive, if a little off center. Under it right away, Tooru set it to his middle blocker, already in the air. It was good, and the quick passed through the block, only to be dug before it could reach the floor. Back at them, barely dug, Oikawa’s team scrambled to get it over, a chance ball for their opponents. The toss flew up, the block in place and shutting down the avenues of attack. The spike came down hard anyways, blasting off the block and heading towards the stands.
Oikawa was after it a split second later, diving into the group towards the sign boards, he blasted the ball back up in the air to his team. But as he scrambled up, something in the second row caught his eyes. He usually ignored the crowds during games like these, but a poster was written in Japanese, and he couldn’t help but stop to read it, even as his team were barely treading enough water to keep their heads above the stormy surf of the match.
Go Tooru, Go. Rule the Court.
Only one person would create a banner like that for him. Still on his knees, he brought his gaze up and me e/c eyes sparkling down at him, Y/n’s smile full and invigorating, cheering his name. “Go Tooru, go!”
Oikawa froze. His mind went blank. Every time he tried to bring it back to the game, it fell apart. Only one thought remained.
Y/n is here. Cheering for me. In Argentina, in the front rows, watching and cheering for me. He came all the way across the globe to watch me play.
For the first time that he could remember, Oikawa completely forgot about volleyball as the rally ended, him still staring up at Y/n. He completely forgot about volleyball. At that moment the only thought going through his mind was that no matter what happened, him and Y/n were going to be okay. Then he heard his voice again, screaming over the crowd.
“Remember Tooru, the team strongest as a group of six is the stronger team!” Y/n called out.
All the frustration and worries wracking his mind fell away and he was back into the game. With Y/n at his back, nothing could go wrong. And he remembered Iwa-chan’s words. Stronger as a group of six. He’d been trying to force everything on his own, just like when he was a kid.
Tooru stood up, shaking his head and dusting off his jersey. Looking back up to Y/n he gave him the warmest smile he could and a simple nod. Then, he was back to the game.
“Sorry,” he said to his team as he returned to the court, “but I’m back now.”
His team only nodded, seeing something change in his eyes, and the match truly began.
Y/n looked down into Tooru’s dazzling brown eyes, eyes he always seemed to get lost in. Then he realized the rally was still going on, and Tooru was still on his yankees, staring up at him as if he were a phantom. Y/n’s heart fluttered and a tear threatened to fall from his eyes. Had Tooru really forgotten about the rally? For him? Indeed, when the ball finally slammed down a moment later, Tooru was still looking up at him. Yes, Tooru really did forget about volleyball for him. Maybe, just maybe, this could work.
Maybe he does think about me as much as I think of him.
Then he was on his feet and flashed Y/n the brightest, most genuine smile he’d even seen from Tooru, his eyes enrapturing for a moment. As Tooru nodded to him, returning to his team, Y/n knew he still liked Oikawa Tooru, and it was okay.
The rest of the game flew by and Tooru melted into the match. With Y/n’s eyes at his back, he and his team flowed into each set and roared back to life, ruling the court. And every few points, Tooru turned to lock eyes with Y/n, to ensure he was still there, that he wasn’t a dream plaguing his mind. It only helped to serve to rekindle Y/n’s feelings for the brunette. It wasn’t just about volleyball. Maybe it never was.
Oikawa’s serve slammed down for another ace, ending the fifth and final set. Y/n cheered him on as his team won entrance to the Club World Championship. After celebrating with this team, Tooru ran over towards the stands, yelling for Y/n, but it was hard to hear over the screams of the crowd. Y/n took out his phone and pointed to it, screaming “Call me later!”
Y/n knew he had to spend some time working with his team, but knew Tooru got the message as he nodded and waved before trotting off. Y/n could wait one more time. He could wait once more. When Tooru was done with his team he’d come for Y/n and then...then they’ll see. Leaving the stadium, Y/n made his way to his motel, to await Tooru’s call.
What am I doing here? Halfway across the world? To do what? Confess I still love him? Why’d I let Iwaizumi get into my head?
Y/n sat in his motel room, doubt beginning to wrack his mind. He had rejected Oikawa, ultimately, by refusing to come with him again. And now, here he was, in Argentina, unable to speak the language, with no idea what he was doing, following erupting emotions he never dealt with and can no longer control. In fact, they were driving him crazy, he needed to deal with this. All he could do was wait, and he hated it.
Oikawa joined his team in their locker room. They were already celebrating, jostling each other and him, but Oikawa had thoughts only for Y/n. Even their post game meeting was a blur to him. As it ended, Tooru immediately grabbed his phone. It was flooded with pictures from his game, including a few of him on all fours gazing in disbelief up at Y/n.
“Iwa-chan will love this one,” the message below the picture read.
No! I can’t let him send that to Iwa-chan. He’d tease me for weeks.
Tooru rushed out of the locker room, not even bothering to change, his team looking at his back knowingly. He was lucky it was a home game. Even as he rushed to his car, his phone was already dialing Y/n’s number.
“Y/n, where are you at?”
“Back at my motel,” Y/n answered
“Where? I’m coming!”
With Y/n’s motel and room number, Oikawa hit the roads of San Juan to find him.
Y/n waited. Tooru was on his way. He needed to deal with this, whatever the result. But now that he was finally shifting through his emotions, the loss of his family, the loneliness, the stress of his dream tearing him apart, he began to falter. Now that he finally recognized his feelings for Tooru, he was afraid, terrified of what was to come. It made him miss the numbness of his work.
He was scared Tooru didn’t want him like he hoped he did. He was terrified that he did, and it would fall apart. He was afraid of being weak in front of Tooru again. And with those thoughts rushing through his mind, his neurons firing doubt through his brain, Tooru arrived.
“Y/n, I’m here, open up!”
The door opened with a slow whisper, but Tooru burst in, slamming the door open past Y/n, engulfing his (shorter/taller) friend into a crushing bearhug.
“Y/n, I can’t believe you came! What are you doing here? I thought you had work!?”
“Can’t breathe. Tooru, let go.”
“Sorry. But why are you here?”
“You’re all sweaty too! Couldn’t you have at least changed out of your uniform,” Y/n whined as Tooru finally let him down.
“I just had to rush over. I didn’t want you waiting for a second longer. So? I thought you didn’t want to leave Japan? Did you enjoy the game? Thanks for coming!”
“One question at a time Tooru,” Y/n laughed, “like I texted, there’s something we need to talk about. And I wanted to do it in person.”
“So, what is so important you had to fly across the globe for me?” Tooru teased
Here Y/n began to stutter, and then stop. He couldn’t do this.
“You aren’t ready yet, are you?”
Y/n shook his head.
“That’s okay. I can wait,” Tooru said, his voice quiet and gentle, stepping back to give Y/n a little space. “How about we go grab some food and head to my place. I have a spare bedroom. Might be more comfortable than this dirty motel,”
“Y/n only nodded, grabbing his stuff.”
“Hungry?”
“Starving. I used just about all of my spending money on the plane and game ticket. I haven’t had much for food.” Y/n admitted.
“That’s some planning,” Tooru laughed, “You used to try to have every detail planned out.
“Oh, shut up and drive.”
The two made their way to Oikawa’s place, eating the takeout Tooru had ordered and picked up on the way.
“How’d you get off work?”
“I, uh...spent an all nighter, or two in order to catch up. Maybe three? I don’t really remember much of it. Iwa-chan was less than pleased.” Y/n admitted, scowling when he remembered the scolding Iwaizumi had given him.
“I bet he wasn’t. What did he do?”
“Nothing fun. Speaking of Iwaizumi though, you’re a snitch. You told him,” Y/n accused.
“What? Me? I never!” Oikawa argued, dramatically trying to protest his innocence, his arms flailing around wildly.
“Hands on the wheel! I know you told him!”
“Fine, I did.” Tooru sighed, his tone getting serious, “I was worried.”
“It’s okay. I got payback.”
“What?”
“Iwaizumi and crew are going to love some of those photos,” Y/n said, smiling
“You didn’t! Please tell me you didn’t Y/n!”
“Oh, I did. Expect some hard core teasing,” Y/n laughed as Oikawa groaned.
“Come on, we’re just about there.”
To Y/n’s surprise, Oikawa’s apartment was very nice, and immaculate. Y/n imagined it would be a disaster area, much like it was when they were kids. Maybe Oikawa had grown up a bit. More than Y/n had apparently.
Tooru jumped into the shower to clean up as Y/n settled into the spare bedroom, that night they watched a movie in relative silence and turned in. Taking out his phone, Y/n began texting Iwaizumi.
Y/n: I can’t do this Iwa-chan.
Iwaizumi: Y/n, you have to deal with this, and everything else. You can’t keep bottling it up.
Y/n: Iwa-chan, I’m scared
Iwaizumi: Do you still love him?
Y/n: I think so.
Iwaizumi: Then talk to him!
Y/n: But I don’t know. Does he still love me?
Iwaizumi: No buts! I saw that photo. He is, and always has been, completely in love with you.
Y/n: Ok, ok, I’ll tell him.
Iwaizumi: Good. If not I will fly over and beat both of you till you figure this out.
Y/n slept alone in Oikawa’s spare room. He had it in case family visited, which they did from time to time.
The following day, Oikawa took Y/n sight seeing through the city of San Juan. Y/n enjoyed the sights and spending time with Tooru. However, with each passing moment his stress and fear continued to build. His gaze shifted away and each time Oikawa could see it, breaking him, what Tooru knew he should have been able to see years ago. When the day came to a close, they found themselves back in Tooru’s apartment, sitting quietly on his couch. Tooru was going to give y/n as much time as he needed.
“Tooru, I…” Y/n stopped and sat back, an exhausted sigh breaking free. Tooru could tell he was holding back tears.
“If you’re not ready yet…”
“No.” Y/n interrupted, “It’s just...I never…” Y/n sniffled, choking back his tears. Tooru’s heart began to throb in pain. He wanted nothing more than to hold Y/n in his arms, to caress him, and make his pain and fears vanish into the night. But he didn’t want to push Y/n if he wasn’t ready.
“Sorry. I promised myself i wouldn't cry,”
“You’re hurting still, aren’t you. It’s okay,” Tooru said, reaching his hand out to Y/n’s and squeezing it, hoping to reassure him.
“I just didn’t want to be weak in front of you again. It’s always like this. I hate being so weak,”
“Weak? Y/n, you aren’t weak!” Tooru argued
“Yes, yes I am. All I do is hide from everything,”
“You’re the last person I’d call weak,” Tooru said, turning his h/c friend so he can look into his pained, but pretty e/c eyes. “Y/n, I’ve seen you push through school, with top marks, virtually alone. As your dad practically abandoned you, it was you who helped your mother, even as she was sick. You who, despite everything, came to school with a smile, never late, never missing an assignment, a club meeting or practice of yours, or a single one of my games. You bore everything on your shoulders alone, often to the detriment of your health. And never once did you complain or let it break you, never once did you allow yourself to show your pain to anyone. I know now, deep down, how much pain you were really in, and you hid it so well. I was completely oblivious to it, selfishly obsessed with my own doubts. Y/n, you are my definition of strength.
“Tooru,” Y/n whispered, no longer able to hold back his tears.
“And you know what. It’s okay to be vulnerable sometimes. It’s okay to let it out. That doesn’t make you weak. You’ve been my pillar so often, will you finally let your walls down with me?”
Y/n couldn’t hold it in anymore. He fell into Tooru’s chest sobbing. His unresolved emotions from his mother’s death, the stress from his deteriorating finances, even the anger he never really dealt with resolving Tooru, all of them came flooding to the surface. And, of course, the love he still felt and buried deep beneath his skin. He allowed it all to overwhelm him finally. He could deal with it as long as Tooru was there.
Tooru held him, so gently, understanding that, despite how strong his love was, he was brittle and wounded, and whatever he needed, Tooru would provide. So he held him close and gentle as a babe and let Y/n cry it out. He rubbed his back when Y/n muttered, “I needed you, and you were never there.” Tooru understood. Part of this was because of him, because he failed to see how much pain Y/n was in during their third year.
“It’s okay, you can be vulnerable with me. I’ll never see you as any less.” Tooru whispered. “You can be as strong as you want, or as weak as you need to be Y/n, I’ll always be here. Just please, stop numbing yourself.”
They laid together until Y/n stopped crying. And then, as Y/n didn’t pull away, or talk, only snuggled closer to Tooru, he held him tighter. Together they remained in each other's arms until the early morning hours.
Tooru smiled, looking down at Y/n who had fallen asleep in his arms. He was tired. Mentally drained. Tooru would be whatever Y/n needed to be. And he’d wait, however long it took, for Y/n to forgive him and return to this permanently. He stayed awake the entire time, running his hand slowly through Y/’s blonde locks. He continued to caress him until Y/n shook awake. It was nearly two a.m.
“Tooru…” Y/n yawned, bringing his hands up to rub his eyes, “what time is it?” “Two a.m.”
“What!?” Y/n pulled away from him and Tooru freely let him pull away, already missing his warmth. “I thought I was just dozing off for a few minutes.”
“Oh, you dozed straight to sleep.” Tooru laughed
“Sorry,” Y/n said, turning away, “About this...I,”
Tooru interrupted him before he could go any further, “Again, it’s okay. I’ll be what you need me to be, and nothing more until you’re ready.”
Y/n nodded, sitting up straight, “We need to talk,”
“You ready?”
“Yea. About us.”
Tooru waited for Y/n to continue, but he went quiet. “What about us?”
“I don’t want to wait. For you. For you to finish with volleyball. To have room in your heart.”
“Y/n,” Tooru sighed, fear rising in his chest, afraid that Y/n was going to ask him to give up volleyball, to give him the ultimatum he always feared. He couldn’t choose between them, “I’m not going to stop my career,”
“I know. I don’t want you to. But I can’t wait either. I want more.”
“More?”
“I want to try again. With you. Us. I don’t want to wait. I can’t,” Y/n said, “So, is your offer still on the table?” “...you’re sure?” Tooru whispered, hoping that he wasn’t asleep on his couch, that this wasn’t just another nightmare meant to torture him.
“I am. I need to know. Ever since we met at New Years, everything came to a head.  Realize I was drowning myself in my work, using it as an excuse to ignore everything else. I did that in college too. I’ve ignored the feelings of my mothers death, my dream, and you. But when you showed up…I can’t do it anymore. But I need to know. I want more. Is there any way we can work? Yes or no, I need to know before I move on. That’s why I’m here.
“You aren’t kidding right?”
“No. So, is your offer still open?”
“Yes!” Tooru yelled, pulling Y/n into another crushing bear hug and pulling Y/n down onto the couch on top of him. “Of course my offer is open. And I want nothing more than for us to work. But I can’t be here all the time either,”
Y/n looked away, fearful for just a moment,
“But, that said, if you give me the chance, I will do everything I can to make you feel loved, to be your pillar, to hold you when you need to be vulnerable. I won’t abandon you like before. I’m stronger now. I’ve learned to balance volleyball and the rest of my life. I can make this work. I promise.”
Y/n smiled. “Then maybe, maybe I’ll be alright,”
“Can I kiss you?” Tooru asked.
“Yes.”
Tooru flipped Y/n over so his back was on the couch, Tooru looming over him. He cupped Y/n’s cheeks, pulling them in together, locking their lips. And Y/n’s fears, his pain, they weren’t gone, it didn’t vanish in a puff of smoke like a fairy tale, but with Tooru he knew he could be weak. He could allow himself to feel again. With Tooru, he knew he just might be okay.
As their lips parted, Y/n felt Tooru pick him up and carry them to his bedroom.
“You’re tired,” he said, gently placing Y/n on the bed and pulling the covers over them. “Rest now. We’ll get the details tomorrow. Sleep my darling, sleep.” Tooru pulled Y/n in close, head to his chest, and together they fell asleep in each other's arms.
“Y/n, don’t go! Not now! Please,” Tooru whined as Y/n tried to make his way to the airport security.
“Tooru, I left d/n with Iwaizumi. I imagine he’s sick of the animal. Plus, I still have to wrap up a bunch of things before I can move.”
“But we just got together n/n,” Tooru whined, pulling Y/n in for a kiss, asking for entrance with his tongue, which Y/n denied.
“Not here. At home. When I return. Then you can have all you want,” Y/n teased
“Promise?”
“Promise.”
“But what if I don’t want to wait?”
“It’ll be a few weeks still. I’ll come back and then we can have some fun,” Y/n said, teasing, moving to whisper in Tooru’s ear, “Then we can figure out whatever citizenship work we need to do if we decide this works.”
“Fine, fine. Just a couple of weeks. And call me every day!” Tooru whined, reluctantly letting go of Y/n.
“I love you Tooru,” Y/n said, as he moved away to get through security.
“I love you too Y/n.”
One year later:
Oikawa’s serve blasted into the back corner of the opponent’s court. The libero dove for it, making contact, but the ball went spinning out of control, well out of reach of any of the opposing team members. The set came to an end, 25-19. There was only one set left.
Y/n cheered for his boyfriend before looking back down at his notebook. He had promised not to work today, but he snuck in some of his art without Tooru noticing. He was working on his own manga. He had yet to get anything officially off the ground. Most of his work had been denied, but he knew that in the writing business, that is the norm more often than not. It was okay. He would continue to work until he made that dream a reality. As for his animation, he still worked from home in their shared apartment, but had lightened his workload. And in a lucky break, one of his supervisors left and recommended him as her replacement. He now almost made something resembling a liveable wage.
He was lost in his art. He knew that Tooru would be meeting with his team between the sets and could sneak in a bit of editing and drawing. Despite being in the front, right behind the bench, he was sure he’d be safe from Tooru’s eyes. But he was so absorbed in his art, he didn’t notice when Tooru came striding up to him, hands on his hips glaring at the artwork.
“You were supposed to be taking a day off, Y/n,”
Y/n jumped, and slowly closed his sketchbook, trying to hide it beneath the chair, “What do you mean Tooru, I am” he smiled, pretending to be innocent.
Tooru sighed, “You’re as hopeless as I am. Come on,” he said, grabbing Y/n’s arm and pulling him onto the court behind the bench.
“Tooru, what are you doing, the fifth set is about to start!”
“Don’t worry, both teams agreed to a short disruption, come on,” Tooru said, pulling him onto the court.
“Tooru, why are we on the court?” Y/n asked, blushing, unused to being in the spotlight with crowds staring down at them, many as confused as him.
“Look up.”
Y/n followed Tooru’s finger up to the screens above the court. Usually showing the game on the court, or replays, the screens now read the words, “Will you marry me, Y/n?”
Y/n turned to glare at Tooru, “Really. You are proposing to me during the middle of a volleyball game.” “Yes. I wanted to show you that I love you just as much as I love volleyball,” Tooru said, “Maybe a little bit more even,” Y/n sighed, “You know, this is a low move. I almost have to say yes, with everyone watching.”
“I’m sorry,” Tooru whispered, “Are you really that uncomfortable?”
“You’re lucky you already knew I was going to say yes,” Y/n muttered, knowing they had discussed the possibility in detail over the past month or so. Y/n shook his head and pulled Tooru in a kiss on the middle of the volleyball court. “Does that answer your question?”
Tooru pulled Y/n into another hug, leading him back to the bench as the crowds cheered. Y/n watched from the bench as the fifth set continued forward. He still wasn’t where he wanted to be yet, but Y/n knew that he and Tooru were going to be alright. He would let Tooru help rebuild him. He could make it through anything as long as he had his husband by his side.
Here’s the ending. Not sure I like it, but it’s what came out. Again, sorry it’s so long. Too all those who distract themselves through work. Hope you enjoyed.

Soft[Christa Lenz x Fem!Reader]
Okay so I’ve got some ideas in my head that I need to get out. This was one of them, I started writing them down because they just keep coming to me and I;m still on my attack on titan brainrot, so please bear with me. This is a short one shot where reader is part of the 104th Cadet Corps and Christa’s best friend. There are no amazing things here, just pure fluff so if any of you need some sweetness today, here you go. Enjoy!  ❤️
Note: Sorry for mistakes and bad writing, I’m still a novice and English isn’t my first language. I also have a problem with writing short snippets because I always end up making them longer and longer, adding new things so this is one of the first I managed to write and not turn into a story with chapters 😖
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- You should watch out for yourself dummy! You’re always making me worried! - Christa said as she cleaned another cut on your face, a result of your recklessness during training session - What if something happened to you and I wouldn’t be there?
- Relax Christa, it’s just a small cut! It will heal in no time so it’s not a big deal - you gave her your award winning smile to show her everything was alright but it quickly turned into a pout when she gently smacked your forehead with her small hand - Meanie.
- Oh don’t be like that you big baby. Besides, you always say that it’s just something! If you’d only watch out for yourself more… - you saw a glint of worry in her eyes and it made you feel guilty about your actions.
You often got hurt while you were training and Christa, your best friend, was always there to help you, knowing you had a knack for getting in trouble. Today was no exception and once again you found yourself sitting on Christa’s bed in the shared room, her soft hands treating your injuries as you gazed into her blue eyes. You were alone and it was hard to focus on anything else since for the past few months you grew to love your dearest friend, although you kept it to yourself, too afraid of losing her to even try and do something about it.
It was no wonder. Christa was a literal angel, both in looks and character and everybody knew it. That was why she was so popular with guys and girls alike, her good heart and sweet smiles always making them feel like they were being graced with the presence of a goddess.
You were the lucky one that got the privilege of calling yourself her best friend but you were still far behind Ymir. Ymir. Every time the two of them interacted together you felt jealousy tug at your heart and even though you hid it well it was still bothering you greatly. There was no chance for you and Christa happening, yet the possessiveness inside you wanted her to be only yours, to the point that you stopped hanging out with her while Ymir was around. It just hurt too much. Maybe that was the reason for your recent rise in times you got injured. It meant being alone with Christa like right now and you would do anything to have more of those moments.
- What is it? You’re spacing out again Y/N. Are you sure you’re alright? - Christa’s worried voice reached you and when you focused on the present, you realised she was closer than before, so close that your noses were brushing. Christa stared into your E/C eyes, searching for something before she pressed her forehead against yours. You could have sworn your heart stopped for a second as a crimson red blush spread across your cheeks, her presence this close to you rendering you speechless - Hmm, you don’t have a fever...but your face is all red! Do you feel lightheaded? Or hot? I can bring you some water, you just have to wait a…
- No! Please don’t go! - you cut her off, unable to stop yourself from reaching out for her as she was about to turn to leave. Your arms wrapped around her middle and you pressed yourself into her stomach with your eyes closed, afraid that if you open them you will have to see her reaction to your sudden outburst. And you didn’t want that. You weren’t usually clingy but today was actually the first day in two weeks that you got to be alone with her. You didn’t want that to end so you just squeezed tighter, holding on so that you could get just a little bit more time with her.
- ...Y/N? Hey, it’s alright. I’m not going to leave, so open your eyes, please? For me? - her warmth and soothing voice calmed you enough to loosen your grip on her but not let go completely. Your heart jumped when you felt her pet your head gently, running her slender fingers through your hair and the gesture made you calm down. You breathed out and slowly tilted your head up to look at her, meeting her light blue eyes that emanated such kindness and warmth - So? Tell me what’s going on, please. I don’t like it when you’re bothered by something. Oh no. Did I do something wrong?
- No! No! It’s not your fault, it’s just that...No, I’m sorry, it’s stupid anyway - you hid your face from her once again but she was quicker than you and before you could successfully bury your head between your arm and her shirt she managed to grab you, squeeshing your cheeks playfully as she made you look up once again.
- Tell. Me. - Christa said in an authoritative tone that was accompanied by a pout and the combination made you smile slightly as you watched her tenderly. Even when she tried to be firm, she was still as cute as ever. If she was going to give you this face, how were you supposed to keep quiet?
- I just...I missed you. Being with you - you managed to get out, ignoring the lingering fear that gripped your heart - We don’t see each other as much as we did with all this training and stuff.
- What do you mean, silly, we see each other everyday! - she gave you the biggest smile she could muster to make you feel better and the butterflies in your stomach danced at the sight.
She was right of course, but that wasn’t what you were talking about and you wanted her not to worry about your weird behavior. Unfortunately, due to her sweet nature, you knew she would do everything in her power to get to the bottom of the problem and help you, so you had to tell her the real reason eventually. You detangled yourself from her form, feeling a sudden wave of courage and confidence wash over you before standing up and grabbing her face in your hands, the same way she did to you just a minute ago. You towered over her and watched as her expression formed into one of surprise.
- I know, but it’s not the same. I meant we don’t see each other like that anymore, just the two of us...I like that. Having you all to myself, I mean - her blue eyes widened at your admission and you couldn’t stop the blush spreading on your cheeks up to your ears, their tips red, betraying your emotions - I like being with you, you know...and I, umm...I mean, maybe I shouldn’t be saying this, but...oh my god, why am I stuttering….I….I’m sorry, I don’t…
Your embarrassing rambling was stopped when you felt Christa’s lips on yours, a state of shock paralyzing your senses that couldn't process what was going on. The softness and sweetness of her lips was all you could focus on and you couldn’t believe this was happening but for now you decided to not dwell on it and simply kiss her back as your heart fluttered in your chest. Your best friend, this beautiful, gentle angel was here in your arms and you couldn’t be happier. This was all you wanted. To your dismay, as soon as you started to move your lips against hers, Christa pulled back quickly and covered her mouth with her hand as her face became red in an instant.
- I’m so sorry Y/N! I don’t know what came over me, you just looked so cute when you rambled so I… - she started to explain herself but was interrupted with the sound of your chuckling. She stared at you for a few seconds before a pout appeared on her face and she stamped her foot on the ground, seemingly irritated - Geez, why are you laughing!
- I’m sorry, I’m sorry! - you managed to get yourself under control and gave her a cheeky smile. Taking a step forward you closed the distance between you two and ruffled her hair, too happy to worry about the possibility of making a mistake - I’m not mad or anything! I like you Christa, so I’m really happy right now.
- Wait, what….? You like...me? - her face became even redder as you leaned in, placing a gentle kiss on her nose and smiling gleefully. She averted her eyes, opting to look at the floor instead and you had to stop yourself from squealing at how cute she was - But I thought...I mean you weren’t hanging out with me as much as we did before and I got worried and then...I realized I like you too?
She almost whispered the last part and you had to focus on what she was saying to hear, but as you did, you felt an immense amount of happiness fill you before you grabbed Christa and lifted her in the air, turning around with her in your arms, her sweet laugh echoing through the room.
- Y/N! Put me down, we’re gonna fall! - she protested but her eyes were closed and she seemed just as happy, her hands squeezing your neck tightly in an attempt to hold herself up. As your head started spinning you thought it was time to stop your twirling before you really fall down, so you slowed down but still kept Christa in your arms, refusing to let her down just yet. She was now as high as you thanks to your hold and it was all so perfect that you couldn’t resist the urge to kiss her again. She squealed against your lips before relaxing in your embrace, her gentle hands tightening her grip on the back of your neck. Both of you smiled into the kiss, happy to finally be together like you were supposed to. You broke the kiss and leaned your forehead against hers, gazing deep into her blue eyes that you grew to love so much during those hard months of training. They were still the same as at the beginning, warm, kind and making you feel like this world might not be so bad after all.
- My sweet darling… - she blushed at your worlds and let go of you to hide her face behind her hands, the tenderness of your words making her heart beat twice as fast, in par with yours.
- Stupid! You’re making me blush, quit it! - you smiled and grinned at her, knowing that this would only be the beginning of your teasing now that you were together. She would learn that soon enough.
- Never, my dear. I like you too much.
- Oh, you. I like you too, dummy...

More of the Demon Bull Divorce AU, another one shot wherein Tang gets a phone call from a panicked Mei about an exploded truck and Red Son needing the hospital. Red Son blurts out a few secrets in the process…

Tang was sitting in his study at the university when he got the call from Mei, from what he managed to decipher from Mei’s panicked ramblings is that he needed to get to the garage and fast. Red Son and Mei had been working on the Noodle Truck while Pigsy and MK were at a Food Hygiene training course [she mentions something about installing a nitro and Tang made a note to tell Pigsy before he drove it again.] She had gotten a phone call from her dad and left the garage to answer it, luckily, she had managed to turn a corner when there was a massive explosion that shook the building besides her. She had found the truck’s fiery remains, a decimated garage and Red Son slumped against the far wall.
To be fair at this moment during the call Tang wasn’t that worried. He had seen Red Son take a jet bike to the face and only be temporarily stunned, heck he had seen on live TV the fire demon being ejected from a high speeding racing car onto the road and walk it off! Blunt force trauma was nothing the demon couldn’t handle. But Mei quickly swept away that peace of mind when she continued to tell him how Red Son had been impaled through the shoulder to the wall by a large piece of shrapnel. He told her to keep calm and wait for him and by no means call an ambulance!
By the time Tang had gotten there Mei was freaking out, she hadn’t mentioned the blood! It was splattered all around garage wall and the guilty piece of metal laid on the floor coated in it. Red Son was passed out and Mei was clinging to him trying to put pressure on the wound.
“Mei what happened? You know better than to remove objects from wounds like that!” Tang cried as he rushed over.
“It wasn’t me!” she squeaked as he checked him over “I was keeping him conscious when he just muttered something how he needed to get on with clearing this up and just yanked it out!”
Tang checked him over, he had cuts and scratches all over and the smaller ones where quickly healing, it was big ones that he was worried about. Red Son may have demonic healing abilities but even he could bleed out it seems.
“Help me get him into the car, we need to get him to Sandy’s” Tang declared as he tied the fabric Mei had been using tighter onto Red Son’s shoulder, the demon muttered something incoherent as they dragged him to Tang’s small city car.
“Hang on…Sandy’s?!” Mei asked “We need to get him to a hospital!”
“Trust me a hospital would only complicate things!” Tang declared as he drove off with Mei in the back with Red Son keeping him steady as Tang drove like a mad man through the streets, “He’s a demon remember? They don’t do well with purified water and saline would be the first thing they try and pump into him, not to mention blood types, physiology and all sort of other complications.”
Tang couldn’t help but remember the time Pigsy had cut himself badly while in the kitchen; if he remembered right Pigsy was trying to show off his vegetable dicing skills and it had gone very wrong with a deep gash on his hand. Tang had rushed him to A&E only for the nurse on duty to give him a look and told him that the veterinary clinic was two blocks away. This was twenty years ago mind you but it still put a bad taste in his mouth when he thought about it.
They got to Sandy who Mei had been called on the way there, he was ready and waiting for his patient when they skidded to a halt on the peer. Sandy wasted no time quickly tending to red Son’s wounds and applying medical balms and applying bandages and gauzes, giving Red Son a small cup of syrupy tea to help with the pain. Mei hovered close by and watched how Sandy worked with practised ease.
“Don’t worry Mei Red Son will be fine, he just needed a little help this time that’s all” Sandy declared once he was done “He’ll be up and about in…”
Red Son stirred and sat up groggily.
“Well right about now it seems” Sandy amended, Red Son looked around blearily before smiling at Tang and waving weakly.
“Heeeey Mr Tang…” he slurred “why do you smell like beetles and gold? And why does that make me hungry?”
“Red Son, how are you feeling?” Tang asked and sat in front of him who wobbled slightly as he tried to focus on the scholar before giving a happy smile.
“It’s so weird that you smell like that…oh hey Mr Tang, I feel fiiiiine!”
“Sandy? Is this normal?” Mei inquired looking at the gentle blue giant, he coughed nervously.
“I may have given him a bit too much pain relief…” he muttered.
“Dragon Horse girl!” Red Son cried happily and beckoned her over, “Great you’re here we need to get moving!” Red Son struggled to get up but failed due to his injuries.
“Red you need to keep still” Mei said gently as Tang pushed him back into the bed.
“No, no, no, no I need to get back to work on the truck!” Red Son declared “Pigsy can’t know I messed up; we need to fix it before he gets back!”
All three exchanged a look of disbelief, Red Son was pale and clearly not thinking straight. Mei knelt down in front of Red Son’s bedside so she could look him in the eye.
“Red the truck is totally trashed” she said slowly as if she was talking to a small child “there’s nothing we can do right now so why don’t you just rest for now…”
“Trashed? That means I need to work quicker!” he stated and wiggled out of bed but his legs gave out before he could even take a step and Mei caught him before he could collapse on the floor. “Maybe I could find a transmutation spell! I mean if noodle boy can do it with a stick I can do it with fire magic, Com’on dragon horse girl I need to get moving!”
“Red you nearly bled out, you need to rest!” she tried again but Red Son shook his head and was becoming distressed. Mei helped him back onto the bed but he just curled up gripping his hair with his good hand.
“I’m trying so hard this time!” he whimpered “I’m trying so hard and I’m still screwing up!”
“Red…”
“I can’t afford to mess up this time!” he cried out tears now pricking his eyes, “I have no where else to go! I don’t want to stop playing pretend!”
That last bit got the three’s attention and Tang could see Mei bristle angrily as she grabbed Red by the unharmed hand to get his attention.
“What do you mean ‘play pretend’?” she demanded, “This better not be some long con you and your parents cooked up to get us to lower our guard!”
“I wanna keep pretending that you guys like having me around” Red Son whimpered “I like it when you guys listen to me and pretend that I’m doing a good job…I know it’s only a matter time before you guys get sick of me and want me gone…I…I just don’t want that to end…I don’t want to go back to feeling alone and despised all the time…” at this Red Son broke down into tears. Mei’s suspicious anger dwindled away as she tried to console the now sobbing demon boy.
Tang glanced at Sandy who gestured at his kitchen, he gave a nod and Sandy went to go make some sleepy time tea. Tang was angrier at himself than anything now, he had hoped his experience with helping MK through his issues would have given him a sort of template to help Red Son through his. He had assumed that because Red Son hadn’t been showing any ill signs like MK had when helping him deal with his family and abandonment issues that Red Son was coping with it all. That clearly wasn’t the case and he now realised where he had made a very foolish mistake on his part.
MK had only a few years to build up his emotional walls and learn how to put on a façade, Red Son had centuries to work on his. After all it had taken him and Pigsy weeks to notice how much Red Son was reluctant to go home or the faded bruises.
Sandy came back with the tea and handed it to Tang to give to Red Son so not to crowd the already upset boy, the poor demon looked up at him forlornly as he approached.
“I’m sorry…” he whispered “Please don’t hate me…”
“I don’t hate you Red Son, none of us do” he said tenderly as he gave him the tea to drink “I’m more upset by the fact it’s taken nothing short of you loosing a couple of pints of blood and being off your head on pain killers for you to be emotionally honest with us.”
“I’m sorry…I’ll try not to mess up anymore…” Red Son mumbled.
“Just drink this and try to rest, ok? We’ll talk more when you wake up.” Tang exclaimed Red Son downed the tea before flopping back onto the bed, his eyes fluttered shut and soon he was asleep.
Red woke up slowly his shoulder hurting like a bitch along with other body parts. Red Son and pain were old acquaintances at this point so he took note of what might need attention as he tried to move his aching limbs; he attempted to recollect what happened.
He was working on the Noodle Truck; Mei was there he remembered that because they were discussing the logistics of installing a nitro into the truck. He was doing some routine maintenance while checking where improvements could be made when Mei got a phone call, he had begun to check the oil levels when he heard her answer the call.
“Hey dad! How’s things?”
That innocent question struck a chord in Red Son that made his heart clenched painfully and then he did something he hadn’t done in what seemed like centuries…he lost control of his powers. Before he could even think about it flames licked up around his body and normally that wouldn’t have been issue had he not been currently working near flammable liquids.
There was an explosion and he remembered being thrown against a wall from the blast, aching agony erupted down his spine followed by several sharp pains across his body the biggest one in his shoulder. His ears were ringing as he saw Mei rush up to him calling to him through what felt like walls of cotton wool. He saw the truck…oh god what a mess he needed to fix that before Pigsy saw it…he tried to get up and only then saw the large chunk of metal pinning him to the wall.
Mei tried to fight him as he grabbed the metal and tore it out, by the gods that hurt but he needed to get moving, there was work to be done and besides this wasn’t the first time he had done this. However, when he tried to cauterize the wound shut Mei was putting her hands over it with her jacket and getting in the way. He didn’t want to burn her by accident but she wouldn’t let go of him… he didn’t remember what happened after that because things got very fuzzy very quickly.
His last thoughts before he blacked out was that he needed to remember to grab a mop there was messy puddles splattered all over the place…
He finally opened his eyes and looked around and saw Pigsy sitting next to his bed, wait how did he get here? Oh crap Pigsy was here! He hadn’t fixed the truck!
Pigsy glanced down at him and noticed he was awake, Red Son felt his gaze burn into his skull.
“How you feeling?” the pig man asked gruffily “Heard you got hurt badly”
“I’m fine!” Red Son blurted “I’ll be up and moving in no time, don’t you worry demons heal fast…” he sat up and tried to move he wobbled but stayed up straight. “I’ll get back to work now okay?”
“Sit back down!” Pigsy barked and Red Son looked at him annoyed to be ordered around but saw that look of displeasure and sat back down. Cold dread now filled Red Son’s chest, he hadn’t fixed the truck he had left a huge mess and Pigsy was obviously mad at him. But if he was going to get punished then he was going to at least face it like the demon prince he was.
“My apologies, as soon as I am able I will repair the…” he started but Pigsy just glared at him even more angrily.
“You seriously think I’m worried about the truck?!” he snapped “Tang told me what happened! You had been skewered and nearly bled to death!”
“Oh…” Red Son stuttered.
“Don’t worry about the truck, MK has trashed and reassembled that thing so many times I’ve lost count.” he explained,
“So…you’re not mad?” Red Son ventured softly.
“Listen Red, I’m more upset about the fact that you are more concerned about a freaking hunk of junk than your own health!” he explained.
“So, I can stay?” came the quiet reply.
“You thought I was gonna chuck you out because of this? Red if I did that MK would have been out on his butt several times over!” Pigsy explained “What matters is that you’re ok, you really scared us there”
“You’re really not mad at me?” Red Son asked again, the idea that he wasn’t getting punished for this wasn’t quite sinking in yet.
“No, I’m not mad and I’m not going to kick you out or punish you or whatever else messed up thing you got cooked up in your head!” Pigsy declared “What we will be doing is talking about this idea you got that your place in this family is based solely on what work you can do, cos it ain’t! you’re a good kid Red you don’t need to keep proving your value, you need to be able to see that we care despite what you can or can’t do…”
Red Son was looking down at his fists that clench and unclenched at the blankets on the bed. Pigsy was worried for a second that none of that had sunk in and if anything he might have made things worse somehow until he heard a hoarse whisper.
“You said…This family…” Red Son repeated so quietly “I have a place in this family? You really want me around?”
“Yes!” he sighed happily and put his hand on Red Son’s arm. “Yes we do!”

Noragami Reverse Bigbang 2021
Hello! This is my piece for this year's @noragamibigbang. The idea for this fic came from @littlessushi who was my partner for this reverse bigbang. Please make sure to check out her beatiful art! As this was the first time I participated in a reverse bigbang I was quite nervous at the beginning but thanks to my partner's help it was a really great time and I enyojed the writing a lot. Have fun reading! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ »That’s all. Thank you very much.« The young woman took the bag in front of her, bowed politely and left the supermarket she often used to visit on her way home. Right after stepping into the already fading sunlight that warmly lit the surroundings; she stretched both her arms high up into the air, closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. It had been a tough day so far.
Since she had finished medical school and started to work at the local hospital some weeks ago, starting from tomorrow she had her first days off, so she could take things easy today.
‘Alright, Hiyori’, she told herself, ‘time to head back home, get some warm tea and a blanket and just chill on the couch.’
Meow…
Surprised she lowered her arms and opened her eyes to look around.
»Meow…« It took her quite some time to get a glimpse of a tiny black cat. It sat on top of a trash can cover and had its eyes strictly focused her way.
»… me…ow…«, the sound coming out of the small mouth got quite a bit lower after she took some steps into the small cat’s direction.
»Don’t be afraid…«, she smiled, stood still and squatted down while leaning forward a bit. At first Hiyori feared the cat would jump up straight away and run, but it just kept watching her, then the black head rose, the cat closed its eyes and the tiny black nose started to wiggle.
»What’s wrong?«, she asked, knowing well a cat wouldn’t answer. Instead it opened both eyes in an instant: »Meow!«, the big green eyes were now focusing the white bag Hiyori just bought. The woman smiled, stood back up and put one hand into the plastic bag.
»Are you hungry? I only bought some buns, you know?«, she laughed and held a piece between her fingers, so the small animal could reach it without any trouble. When their eyes met again, Hiyori’s smile vanished in an instant and she froze.
Even though the weather hadn’t changed the slightest, the sound of raindrops falling onto the ground reached her ears: raindrops that hit the ground, the roof, the rain drain, her umbrella and the trash can cover.
“I will keep my promise!” Her own words echoed in her ears, “I will never ever forget about you…!”The young woman shuddered and held her breath.
»Ya…to…?!«, she whispered while barely getting any kind of sound out of her mouth and took a closer look at the pair of light green eyes that carefully watched her. The bun she just held dropped on the floor. Just one second ago, Hiyori believed that the cat’s eyes’ colour had changed from green into a deep and light blue – but she was wrong: It was still the same.
‘Why …?’
“Will you really keep that promise, I wonder…?”
Not caring about some people who would probably think she had gotten crazy, Hiyori let the entire bag fall on the ground, turned around and ran.
The park she just entered was still filled with people, mostly families and friends. Many of them already started to prepare their way home, but some were still enjoying their time together. The cherry blossom trees throughout the city had just started to bloom and drew everyone’s attention towards them. Tiny pink petals were dancing through the air, swirling around and lightening everybody’s mood, or so it seemed.
Countless children were running around, screaming and dancing with both leaves and their friends while on the other hand older people were sitting on blankets, drinking, chatting and laughing with their beloveds and family – meanwhile Hiyori was still caught in her thoughts, not fully aware of what just happened or where she ran to.
It was only some minutes later when she finally recognised she ran quite a distance. She abruptly stopped and leaned against a trunk, her eyes still closed to get back a hold of her breathing.
As her emotions calmed down and the surrounding sounds started to reach her consciousness again, she carefully blinked and reopened her eyes. Even though she could still feel her heart pounding against her chest, her breathing tempo went back to normal and her brain had started to work properly again. Even her hands had stopped shaking.
‘What’s wrong with me, all of a sudden?’ She led out a heavy sigh and watched the children play on the grass right in front of her eyes. Hiyori couldn’t help herself but bring back a smile to her face. It felt like ages, since she last went out for a walk during the Hanami. When she was younger, she used to go out with her family and play with her brother and friends like those kids did just now. Later, when she entered middle school, she used to come visit the blooming trees together with her friends, but since she went afar to study to become a physician, she simply didn’t have the time to take a relaxing walk around the park.
Just now, when her eyes tried to follow the petals swirling through the air, she felt like a heavy weight was lifted from her chest – a feeling she hadn’t felt in quite a while. Like a vanishing mist that lay upon her soul for the past… days… maybe weeks… or even years?
»This place sure is amazing, isn’t it?! We definitely have to come back here again next year!«
»You bet we will!«
»For real?! It’s a promise! You better not forget, okay?«
»Of course I promise. How could I forget something that important?!«
The three people, walking by Hiyori who still leaned against the trunk of one of the biggest cherry blossom trees around, laughed and giggled up until she lost sight of them.
»… a… promise…?« Hiyori murmured, softly pushing her body away from the cherry tree trunk. Slowly she continued her way through the park, passing by several trees – some of which were lit by nearby street lamps that had just been switched on one second ago. As she moved on, the amount of people crossing her way decreased, until she finally found herself at the edge of the park, looking over a beautiful riverside, while the sun had continued its way, so it was just about to touch the ground in the far distance now. This caused the white and pink petals swirling around Hiyori’s body to be touched by the fading sunlight, turning the already beautiful view into an even more mysterious one. The tree right beside her, which had its trunk wrapped up in a mat of straw, didn’t seem to be one of the strongest or biggest ones she passed today, nevertheless its petals rained down and spread across – some of them might even reach the other riverbank.
She carefully approached the tree and put her palm on top of its somewhat familiar bark.
‘So warm…’ She lifted her eyes and waved her gaze to the treetop. In an instant she could feel a fresh breeze of wind playing with her hair.
“The Sakura’s in full blossom.”, her own voice echoed in her ears. She shrugged.
“Whoa… they sure are pretty!” It was the voice of a young man, maybe still at a kid’s age. Startled, Hiyori took some steps back from the tree she just put her hand on and searched her surroundings.
“They are… Let’s come back next year, too, okay?!”
“Definitely…” The blonde boy beside her, his eyes sparkling in joy, nodded, still gazing at the big cherry blossom tree. Just one second later he snapped out of his current mood, turning his attention to the back while shouting: “Yo – You dumb old stalker. We did you a big favour by letting you come with us, so you better be careful!” Following his voice, Hiyori turned around as well. Some meters behind them stood a young man dressed in a black track suit. His gaze was locked on the cherry tree as well, but in contrast to the boy, his eyes didn’t sparkle, nor was there any joy visible on his face. His expressions hadn’t changed since Yukine spoke to him, he didn’t even spare a glance on the two. Hiyori couldn’t help herself but feel unease: It was rare for him to put up that kind of face. She wanted to ask him, wanted to know if something happened she didn’t know about, but on the same time she didn’t find the right words to do so. His mind seemed to be in a place far away from here, would he even bother to answer?
Then suddenly, he started to mumble some words. Not loud enough to understand completely, even though she really tried. The wind made the young man’s black hair cover his eyes, so she couldn’t get a hold of his expression anymore. ‘What’s wrong??’ Just as she started to make a move to turn around and walk in his direction, some of his words made it through to her.
“… huh? … can’t even remember… when I last saw…”
‘When?’
“What are you rambling about?! Cherry blossoms are everywhere in Japan…!” The boy’s voice snapped both of them out of their thoughts.
“Hmph… Dumplings over flowers for me any day.”
Without any further word, Yato headed straight to the bento boxes Hiyori prepared for today, sat down on the blanket and pinched a bit out of the box next to him. “SO MUCH FOOD!”, he picked up one of the sausages shaped like an octopus. In contrast to his appearance just some moments ago, he wore a big grin on his face, his cheeks rosy from excitement.
“Ahh, just looking at these adorable octopus hotdogs makes me warm with Hiyori’s love…”
“Wait ‘til everybody gets here, okay?”
“Everybody?”
Just as they spoke, a bunch of people appeared in the far, strictly heading for the cherry blossom tree they prepared the picnic at.
Hiyori couldn’t help herself but giggle at the images that just flashed before her eyes. Both Yato and Bishamon sure were energetic that day. Everyone else probably had a lot of fun, too!
»You should quit drinking that much if you lose the capability to control your actions, you know? Don’t blame me, Yukine or anyone else for the things you did!«
Hiyori had turned around, rolling her eyes and both of her hands rested on her hip.
‘At least he doesn’t make that gloomy face anymore.’
The annoyed look on her face vanished and turned into a happy smile as their eyes met.
»Whatever… this day turned out to be a lot of fun, huh? Well… it was even more chaotic as I could’ve ever imagined beforehand…«
After a short pause, she continued: »Yato…!« It was just then, when she finally realised that neither Yato, nor Yukine nor one of the others had been with her to begin with.
In front of her eyes there was still that cherry tree which had a small part of its trunk covered, the same petals dancing around her body and the same river some steps ahead.
»Right…«, she told herself, »… it’s already been some years.« ‘How could I forget? … Again…’ The whole amount of energy she just felt some minutes ago had already left her body, so she leaned against the tree behind her, slowly sliding to the ground. In silence, tears had gathered in both of her eyes, blurring her vision before they rolled over and left a wet mark on her face.
Back then she couldn’t even think about a life without them – a so called normal life. A life where she simply went to school to learn, have fun with her classmates and friends and then starting to think about her future goals.
After she was hit by that truck when she was trying to save this reckless god running over the street to catch a stray, she tended to leave her body from time to time. Even now she couldn’t fully understand what happened back then. As a so called half Ayakashi she could jump up high and her kicks were even stronger than Tono’s. Yato had promised to find a cure for her state. ‘Right… I even payed him the five Yen he requested.’ As time went by, she had started to stop regretting her new state and used the power given to her to help her friends and fight. What started as something alarming and scary turned out to be a way full of friends and mysteries to solve. Never could she have imagined that it would not stay like this forever.
Even though Tenjin had warned her to stay alert and thus suggested that cutting ties with Yato and everybody else would be for the best, she refused and stayed. She wanted to stay by their side – by his side. After she almost forgot about everybody once, she treasured her dairy even more, closely paying attention to reread and write something down every single day.
‘Why did I forget about them again? Did he cut the ties for real this time? That night?’ – He didn’t, she just remembered. After her cord was heavily damaged and her physical body had gotten weaker, Tenjin brought up the matter of cutting ties again.
“I’m sorry… if it wasn’t for me, your condition wouldn’t be that bad right now…«, Yato stood some steps away from her, his eyes strictly directed to the floor. It wasn’t easy to understand every word he said, because his voice was about to start trembling any moment. To cover up, he kept it low.
“That’s not true! Why do keep blaming yourself for things you can’t change?!!”
Hiyori’s voice was filled with anger and despair. If he really wanted to cut the ties that connected the two there wasn’t much she was able to do against.
“Yato…”, after a while she lowered her voice too, slowly closing the gap between them until she was able to touch his chin with her fingertips. Gently and yet firmly she lifted his head so his eyes had to make contact with hers. His were cold and without the sparkling deep blue she loved about them the most. His face was covered in bruises from the many fights he had to endure and despite her having bandaged them the best she could, he really looked like someone who should rest rather than standing here at night, chatting.
“… please.”, she continued her talk, “I don’t want to forget, I will be fine, I’ll-…!”
She felt cold sweat running over her face and her breathing was unsteady and fast. It was just at that moment, when she suddenly felt dizzy and was about to tumble. Yato quickly had put his arms around her waist and pulled her close to his chest. She could feel every finger of his tightly holding onto her shirt while desperately trying to cover the fact that his hands were shaking.
“Please… I don’t want to forget… again…”, she whispered and could feel him strengthen his grip even more.
She tightly wrapped her arms around her knees as she remembered what happened more than six years ago. Her condition kept getting worse, so everyone suggested it may be best for her to continue living a normal life. That’s why she decided to sign up for medical school far away from Kofuku’s house. If she studied far away, kept her distance and regained her health, she would be able to meet with them again – at least that was what she had hoped for.
Her condition did indeed get better throughout the years passing by, she felt a lot healthier now and
could not remember a single day she left body again. ‘But… I ended up forgetting about them… about all of them nonetheless.’
‘I wonder… are they still arguing day for day? Fighting evil spirits? Did they get into a fight again and got hurt? Are they… still ali-…!’
Hiyori stopped her own thoughts, opened her eyes wide and held her breath while covering her mouth with both her hands.
“The only kinds of believers Yato could ever relay on were those one-time customers, not to mention he was never really blessed with a good shinki… I’m sure he had his fair share of fears and doubts. I bet there wasn’t a day when his mind was at ease, since he had to cling to one person’s memory at a time to stay alive…”
‘Right… without his lifeline, an unknown god like Yato would…’
Her chest hurt and her head was filled with dust. Hiyori could feel her knees shaking, as she tried to stand back up on her feet again. After she forgot about him during the past six years, did he…? No…
»This can’t be… right!« Hastily the woman grabbed the bag she was carrying her mobile in; at least she tried to. Where she remembered her bag to be, she could just grasp thin air. She must have lost her bag after encountering the black cat next to the supermarket this afternoon.
»Damn…!« With one jump she ignored her still shaking knees and jumped back on her feet.
‘It doesn’t matter if we’re supposed to cut ties… I don’t care…’ Her body ran back into the park she came out of some minutes ago. All its ways were lit by streetlamps, now that the sunlight was almost completely gone for today.
‘I have to call him… I have to know whether he and Yukine are safe… Please – be safe!’
The tears had flooded her eyes, making it difficult for her to follow the path she was heading properly.
‘Please…’, she begged in her mind, not able to think of something different anymore.
»YATO-…!«
Some birds that were sitting on nearby branches to enjoy the last warmth of the sun flew away in fright – not because Hiyori suddenly shouted out a name into the dark, but because of the sound of two bodies crashing into each other. The uninspected impact made the woman stagger backwards; therefore she was now sitting in the grass, heavily breathing.
»I’m terribly sorry… I wasn’t paying attention to my surroundings. Are you hurt?«, the calm voice of a young man dispelled the rising panic occupying her mind.
»No, I’m… I’m fine. Sorry.«, she answered in a low voice and raised her head. Since it already got dark and the last piece of sunlight couldn’t reach the centre of the park she was now in, the big cherry blossom trees around her were all lit by some streetlamps. One might say the contrast of the dark night with its deep blue sky made a beautiful contrast to the white and pink petals still swirling to the ground, but Hiyori didn’t care about anything like that right now. She was looking into the direction the young man’s voice had reached her ears from. Even though she could only see his silhouette because he stood right in front of one of the lights, he had a somewhat calming aura around him. As she took a closer look she noticed he wore some kind of tracksuit. Maybe he was one of the students or freshmen who spend their time after work for some fitness runs through the park.
‘Whatever… I have to hurry!’
As she made a move to stand back up again, the person in front of her came some steps closer and made something swing right before her eyes.
»This happens to be yours, doesn’t it?«
Just now she realised that it was indeed her mobile phone the stranger was holding. She nodded.
»I figured.«, he replied and straightened his back again, »Well then…«
»How did you kn-…?«
»Be careful – tonight’s gonna be a gloomy night.« The young man in front of her avoided to answer her question and turned around, just to be gone not even a second later.
»Wait!« Hiyori put her hand in front to push her body on her feet again, when she realised her phone lying right before her eyes. Hastily she picked it up and unlocked the screen when she suddenly paused. Attached to the upper right of her phone, there was a small keychain she did not remember putting there in the first place. It was a golden crown which was attached to a thin string, shining even in the pale light of the street lamps.
The tears that had stopped once she fell to the floor continued to run all over her face, as she embraced the small keychain and squeezed it close to her chest.
»Thank god…«, she murmured and couldn’t hold back the sobbing that echoed through the dark, while a gentle wind, which brought a lot of cherry blossom petals with it, gently caressed her body, as if it wanted to give her at least a little comfort.
************************************************************************
Close to the riverside the young man was looking back at the park full of cherry blossom trees, when the woman’s whispers reached his ears and a relieved smile hushed over his face. He closed his eyes and turned around to leave.
»Stupid… I won’t disappear that easy.«
