The Trope of the Day is Women in Refrigerators
Welcome to the wasted women tournament, a tournament to figure out what was the worst female character death!
If you don't know, women in refrigerators is a trope originally coined by comic writer Gail Simone in the 90s in response to the death of Alexandra DeWitt in the Green Lantern comics. She had been the Green Lantern Kyle Rayner's girlfriend who had been killed by the villain Major Force and her body stuffed into the refrigerator for Kyle to find. Since then, "fridged" has become a verb to refer to female characters who are senselessly killed in order to the male protagonists sad or angry without much regard to the woman herself. While originally referring specifically to comic books, the terminology has started to spread to any media.
There are typically two ways that women tend to be fridged:
A female character is written specifically to be fridged. The loving mother/older sister or the disposable love interests are both examples of this trope. These characters typically have very little agency or inner-world outside of the male protagonist— their relationship with the male character is essentially their whole role in the story.
A female character who is a character in their own right— they DO have their own inner-world— but then is killed off to affect the male characters or for plot convenience.
With all of that said, here are the rules for for submissions. Please make sure you read them all before you submit.
The submitted character has be a woman. ABSOLUTELY, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, DO MALE CHARACTERS COUNT.
(Women in refrigerators is a trope about the senseless killing of female characters because they are thought of as more disposable by nature of being female. While some male characters are killed off for problematic reasons—see bury your gays or the black guy dies first tropes—this blog isn't about them. However, feel free to combine tropes by submitting queer women or women of color, as they are often killed off at higher rates than cishet or white women.)
For the most part, no resurrected characters. By that I mean no characters who die but later come back to life. However, if you think your character should still count despite their resurrection, feel free to make your case to me in the ask box. If you convince me, I will count them.
No characters who are injured or incapacitated but do not die. However, just like above, you can make your case to me in the ask box and if you convince me, I will count them.
Trans women are women, so feel free to submit trans characters. ABSOLUTELY NO TERFS ALLOWED ON THE BLOG— YOU WILL BE BLOCKED ON SIGHT. YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE.
No nonbinary characters unless they also identify with being a woman. Nonbinary people ≠ women. There aren't many nonbinary characters in media in general so I do not think this will be much of a problem but I wanted to specify just in case.
If the woman was killed off for a reason other than making male character(s) sad or plot convenience, then it does not count. This trope is not just any woman who died—there are plenty of ways to kill off a female character in a well-written way!— it's specifically unnecessary or gratuitous killing of female characters in a badly-written way.
I reserve the right to reject a character if I do not think they were actually fridged.
I reserve the right to reject a character if I am not comfortable including them.
I think this goes without saying but no real people.
No unofficial or small media (ex. fan media, OCs, a comic on someone's Tumblr, etc.) as I feel like that could encourage bullying on individual people. Stick to comics, TV, movies, anime, etc. etc. etc. Even if they are smaller but "official" in some way it can be included.
Submissions will be open until December 1st, but if I get a lot of submissions early on I will close them early.

LOTS OF HOMESTUCK FANDOM RAMBLING AND COMPLAINS
[this is my view, this is my opinion, idc if you disagree, idc if you agree, i just wanna talk about it and hopefully never touch the subject ever again] [english is not my first language, pardon my errors]
"Kanaya and Rose are lesbians!!!" that's a cool and valid headcanon, but you recognize and treat it as what it is - a headcanon - right?
You recognize that people who ships Kanaya and Karkat are not 'homophobes' nor are 'trying to erease Kanaya's sexuality', right?
I like rosemary, I really do, but I'm TIRED to see people writing "DNI IF YOU SHIP KANAYA/ROSE WITH BOYS". You're entitled to do that, sure, that's not even the biggest problem. THE problem is when 'fans' see the ship and not the characters and don't go over that. They see rosemary as "the lesbians uwu" and nothing else.
Rose and Kanaya used to be very complex and unique characters. Sure, Act6 ruined them, but Act6 ruined EVERYONE, so what's the difference? Why so many people headcanons Karkat as 'gay' but still recognize him as his own character? Why it's not the same with Rose and Kanaya?
They basically don't exist outside of their relationship anymore, they exist as a whole that consist in just "the sapphics, the lovers, the wives" and that's it.
Mind you, I would still say this even if their canon sexuallity was lesbian, but the fact they're not and people are so aggressive about it makes it so much worse.
Rose has shown interest in men, Kanaya - as EVERY troll - doesn't even know wtf 'sexuality' means. Basically, if we HAVE to give the a sexuality, Rose is more bisexual and Kanaya pansexual - maybe omni since Hussie said Kanaya's interest in women is "a fetish"; something horrorific that I seriously don't know how fans (indireclty) accepted (by making Kanaya as "the lesbian uwu").
I feel like repeating myself, but YOU CAN HEADCANON THEM AS THE FUCK YOU WANT TO! You can even feel uncomfortable if people ships them with the opposite gender! You can post/talk/reblog/etc about them only when they're paired together, I do it too! But don't go after people who sees them differently; don't go after people who doesn't buy the 'canon rosemary bullshit' (remember they interacted very less and very less romantically than other famous ships like grimdorks after all); don't geniunly think about them as "the lesbians" and nothing else. This is why wlw ships and woman characters are so less relevant and seen in fandom spaces. Yeah, they're in every Beta kids/troll draw, but them ALONE as themselves, without making their sexulity/relationships the centre of the thing? How many character analysis there are about homestuck boys - sometimes even without mentioning their relationships at all? How many there are about girls character? And I used rosemary as an example but Jade suffers a lot of this too.
Have you seen Jade outside of the "best girl" or "autistic girl" or "cute girl who can beat your ass" context? Much less, right? The last one - "cute girl who can beat your ass" - is even less present then the others somehow. Jade in general is very less present in the fandom in general.
"It always has been this way" I disagree. VRISKA is the perfect example for this. If you go further back into the fandom, you'll see tons and tons of Vriska-solo content, lots of analysis, fanarts, fanfics, etc. But since she became the "Terezi's moirail uwu" she stopped existing so much outside of her relationship with Terezi. Even Vriska's relationship with Tavros didn't do that. Gosh, not even Vriska's PAST relationship with Kanaya did that! I'm not even sure this people even KNOW Vriska and Kanaya were moirails and that Rose was supposed to 'replace Vriska' and become Kanaya's moirail herself.
But times have changed and now Vriska too is the "butch lesbian" and nothing else. Well, in her case, she still have lots of solo-moments in the fandom, but I think that's because of her HUGE part in Homestuck, were you simply cannot talk about it without mentioning her and the stuff she does. "That's valid for Rose and Kanaya too", yeah, but significantly less, you understand that? You *can* summorize Homestuck without mentioning Rose's role in the Beta SBURB session and so it's for Kanaya, but it's more difficoult to do so without mentioning Vriska's numerous interventions and fucked ups. Also, Vriska is a much more controversial character, of course people are going to discuss her more outside of her relationships.
I'm happy that this fandom considers characters as Nepeta and Feferi, even if they have such a short screentime. Still there are plenty of problems with how they're portaied in the fandom.
Nepeta's "cat-girl >w<" moments are more or less stopped; old fandom already saw this and contrasted this. The same can't be said for Feferi.
I'll say this once here and only once and (hopefully) nowhere else: Feferi is not a good person, and she's not a bitch either.
"But she stopped Eridan from committing genocide!" she still wanted to keep lowbloods as pets.
"But she used Eridan and broke up with him!" she forced herself in a relation with him to keep his morderous intentions down.
Do you see what's the problem here? It's not the ships, it's not the screentime, it's not the misscharacterization, the problem is the white-black mentality people have in fandoms; the belief that one character can exist in one context and nothing else (one ship, one way of thinking, one characteristic, ...). Characters can and should be more complex than one characteristic they have which is a little fraction of themselves. AND this is especially true for girls/women characters, who are STILL viewed less and less complexly than boys/men characters, and THAT'S what kills complete girls characters and kills variations and fertilize misscharacterizations.
—sincerelly, a solkat lover who berally can see them outside of their relationship and doesn't like other ships with them
EDIT: some people have read the incipit as lesbophic, I'm very sorry for that! here are two posts (post n1), (post n2), where I clarify it. Feel free to send an ask too if there's some doubts about my statements or if you disagree on something (and explain why of course).

Name: Sister Pronouns: she/her Era: Galactic Republic Appears in: Queen's Hope, Brotherhood
Sister was a clone trooper who served under Obi-Wan Kenobi in the 7th Sky Corps. She was transgender, and was given the name "Sister" by her fellow clones as a sign of support for her and her gender identity. She made a point to honour all of her fellow troops that fell in battle.
Learn more about Sister, and some criticisms on how she was written, in her profile video.
Full profile under the cut:
Sister was a transgender clone trooper in the Galactic Army of the Republic. She was part of the 7th Sky Corps, and worked with Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi on a few missions. She carried a DC 15-A blaster rifle and had pink and blue armour paint.
Sister was loyal to her brothers, and made a point to honour her fellow clones that fell in battle. Her brothers were just as loyal right back to her. Sister said that her name was “how her brothers tell everyone she belongs,” and that they “never let her doubt” herself when they left Kamino. Anakin Skywalker was also supportive and accepting of Sister, and assured her that the Jedi would also be accepting of her gender identity.
Sister has appeared in two novels: Queen’s Hope by EK Johnston in 2021, and Brotherhood by Mike Chen in 2022.
Johnston commissioned artwork of Sister for the book’s release. Made by Uzuri Art, Sister was originally depicted with pink and blue armour paint, and black cornrow-style braids.
As with all the clones, Sister is based on Temuera Morrison, who is Polynesian. In the original commission, Sister has cornrows, which is a culturally Black hairstyle. EK Johnston was criticized for this decision as both erasure of Maaori and Polynesian representation, and as cultural appropriation for using cornrows on a non-Black character. After this criticism, EK Johnston commissioned the artist to change Sister’s hairstyle to look more like French braids.
Johnston has also been criticized for Sister's poor inclusion in the novel. Sister appears for less than one page, and her few lines are about being trans.
This is a descriptive profile. Commentary on the character will be discussed in a separate post.

i don't get people that don't like writing women (specifically women of color bc be honest, you're just racist). and i don't mean people with "yada yada yada" excuses, i mean people that will make fanfic ignoring canon but say canon doesn't give them enough to work with for women and POC. just admit you're misogynistic and racist

Women characters I relate to; challenge.
I want you guys to post the female characters, that you like the most and relate to, and why you relate to them.
These are mine...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. Camille is my first choice because I've went through the trauma of having to have been in an institution of a cult-like environment where everyone knows everything and uses it against you. I also relate to her personality, her music taste, her taste of fashion, her humour. Camille is just a very likable character for me. And I also have flashbacks like Camille does, and have sex with men I shouldn't have sex with 😩
2. Amy is my second choice because I too want to escape from my normal life, the whole get revenge on your abuser sounds tempting honestly. Sure the girl may have a few flaws such as; she changes her personalities like women change shoes. But everyone makes mistakes right? And she gives SUCH a ingenious monologue in the book about what a cool girl is and how men expect this. Because they do, they do expect this and it's so relatable and could drive anyone insane.
3. Sidney is my third because she's just such a badass, and I aspire to be her. She's a survivor. She's a woman who's been through hell and back, who has so many trust issues and C-PTSD and yet she's always found a way out of that darkness.
4. Lisabeth is my fourth because I just love every aspect about her, I don't even understand why so many people find her weird or unsettling, she's a girl who just wants to seek justice for women, eat her happy meals and be left alone by scumbag men. I relate to her because even though I don't have any tattoos or piercings, I certainly do feel like an outsider most of the time.
I challenge @90sjenniferconnelly to post this <3

Additional facts of Christy Gray:
Is Childhood friends with Vanessa and David, the former of which she has a crush on.
Is stubborn, defiant, affectionate, vindictive, and clever.
Is multiracial; Italian, French, and Persian.
She's a Lesbian.
Her mom Sofia is a lawyer while her Dad Arthur is a homemaker, she has a good relationship with her parents.
She has a brother around 6 years old named Johnny, their relationship is alright, their not close and they sometimes bicker but their close enough that he wants to play with his sis and she'll kill anyone who dares hurt her brother, or she would If It weren't for that dang law getting in her way.
She and her family have a pet golden retriever named Ari who she absolutely adores, Ari loves running towards the she closest to and tackle them and giving affection, and by affection I mean she'll lick you.
If you said you'r a cat person she'll be like "Excuse me?", thats not to say she'll take It too seriously but her love towards Ari will kick in and she'll mostly joke about taking such offense, and If Ari is within earshot she'll jokingly point out she's right there like as If you just hurt her feelings, maybe cover her ears to protect her from such blasphemy, and then jokingly demands you to apologize to Ari.
She has a polaroid camera that she got as a gift for Christmas which she cherish dearly.
