Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week #13

April 5-12 2024

President Biden announced the cancellation of a student loan debt for a further 277,000 Americans. This brings the number of a Americans who had their debt canceled by the Biden administration through different means since the Supreme Court struck down Biden's first place in 2023 to 4.3 million and a total of $153 billion of debt canceled so far. Most of these borrowers were a part of the President's SAVE Plan, a debt repayment program with 8 million enrollees, over 4 million of whom don't have to make monthly repayments and are still on the path to debt forgiveness.

President Biden announced a plan that would cancel student loan debt for 4 million borrowers and bring debt relief to 30 million Americans The plan takes steps like making automatic debt forgiveness through the public service forgiveness so qualified borrowers who don't know to apply will have their debts forgiven. The plan will wipe out the interest on the debt of 23 million Americans. President Biden touted how the plan will help black and Latino borrowers the most who carry the heavily debt burdens. The plan is expected to go into effect this fall ahead of the election.

President Biden and Vice-President Harris announced the closing of the so-called gun show loophole. For years people selling guns outside of traditional stores, such as at gun shows and in the 21st century over the internet have not been required to preform a background check to see if buyers are legally allowed to own a fire arm. Now all sellers of guns, even over the internet, are required to be licensed and preform a background check. This is the largest single expansion of the background check system since its creation.

The EPA published the first ever regulations on PFAS, known as forever chemicals, in drinking water. The new rules would reduce PFAS exposure for 100 million people according to the EPA. The Biden Administration announced along side the EPA regulations it would make available $1 billion dollars for state and local water treatment to help test for and filter out PFAS in line with the new rule. This marks the first time since 1996 that the EPA has passed a drinking water rule for new contaminants.

The Department of Commerce announced a deal with microchip giant TSMC to bring billions in investment and manufacturing to Arizona. The US makes only about 10% of the world's microchips and none of the most advanced chips. Under the CHIPS and Science Act the Biden Administration hopes to expand America's high-tech manufacturing so that 20% of advanced chips are made in America. TSMC makes about 90% of the world's advanced chips. The deal which sees a $6.6 billion dollar grant from the US government in exchange for $65 billion worth of investment by TSMC in 3 high tech manufacturing facilities in Arizona, the first of which will open next year. This represents the single largest foreign investment in Arizona's history and will bring thousands of new jobs to the state and boost America's microchip manufacturing.

The EPA finalized rules strengthening clean air standards around chemical plants. The new rule will lower the risk of cancer in communities near chemical plants by 96% and eliminate 6,200 tons of toxic air pollution each year. The rules target two dangerous cancer causing chemicals, ethylene oxide and chloroprene, the rule will reduce emissions of these chemicals by 80%.

the Department of the Interior announced it had beaten the Biden Administration goals when it comes to new clean energy projects. The Department has now permitted more than 25 gigawatts of clean energy projects on public lands, surpass the Administrations goal for 2025 already. These solar, wind, and hydro projects will power 12 million American homes with totally green power. Currently 10 gigawatts of clean energy are currently being generated on public lands, powering more than 5 million homes across the West.

The Department of Transportation announced $830 million to support local communities in becoming more climate resilient. The money will go to 80 projects across 37 states, DC, and the US Virgin Islands The projects will help local Infrastructure better stand up to extreme weather causes by climate change.

The Senate confirmed Susan Bazis, Robert White, and Ann Marie McIff Allen to lifetime federal judgeships in Nebraska, Michigan, and Utah respectively. This brings the total number of judges appointed by President Biden to 193

Welcome to Whumpuary 2024!

Whumpuary is a whump themed mixed-media creation event/challenge taking place in January.

This year the prompts came together through a community submission form and then a poll, where I picked the 53 most voted prompts! There are 15 numbers with 3 prompts each, plus 8 alt prompts. The dates are just meant to be a general guideline for those who want/need some structure in a challenge (e.g post every other day), but you don't actually have to create/post on those dates. You can combine prompts any way you want or just pick one of each number, do every single one or even all of them combined into one big creation (or just use one single prompt. That's already an achievement!) If you don't like any prompts of a number you can also replace or combine them with an alt prompt. The main or alt prompts don't have to be done in order.

Things I'm Doing to Make my 2024 Witchcraft Practice More Accessible and Consistent

In 2023 I was not very consistent with my practice at all. Between TAFE, university applications, ADHD, my (at one point) 3 jobs and just general life stuff, I haven't had a lot of energy to be consistent and just enjoy my practice. My goal for the coming year is to make my practice as accessible and as fun as possible. I want to practice a lot, I want to do a lot of research and spell work in 2024. So this is a list of a few things I'll be doing to make sure I meet those goals!

Enchanting my skin care with glamours and intentions for clear skin. That way I don't have to remember to say my intentions everyday and it will still have some effect if I forget

Cleaning my altars because I'm way more likely to do stuff if I have a clean space. (obvious I know but i haven't cleaned it for like 6-7 months)

Getting rid of my "only do it if needed rule". Fuck it. I like doing spells. Just because I'm not homeless doesn't mean that I shouldn't do a prosperity spell. It also limits my experiences with spell work

More magical playlists. I have like 20 ideas for what to make I just haven't done it yet lol. I love music more than anything so intention playlists are great options if I want a very quick 'spell'

Make a list of things to post here. I tend to come up with Ideas i've never thought when making tumblr content! Personally, brain storming and content creation counts as part of my practice

Enchanting my water bottle! If I'm hydrating I may as well make it fun (it'll also probably make me more likely to drink water)

Make a list of accessible offerings! I really struggle to give offering because if I don't go the whole 9 yards I feel like a bit of a failure (which is so hypocritical of me given all the things I talk on here). I think have a list will help me get past that first barrier of not knowing what to offer.

Make a shortened version of the offering ritual I do. I am more low energy than not during the school year so this will be very valuable for me

This is the full list as of this moment but this list is for me more than it is for sharing knowledge purposes so I'm okay with not having it 100% finished. If I think of anything else I'll add it and if anyone else has any tips they are very welcomed. Happy new years :)

Zukka Nation, it's ACTUALLY time!

After collecting feedback via our poll and multiple conversations, we've decided to push back the dates of Zukka Week 2024. Many of you voted for a week in May/June, but the overwhelming response from creators was that more time is needed to properly create for this event, especially concurrent to other fandom projects. We will move forward with what we hope is a better timeframe for everyone interested in participating.

This should allow four and a half months for creation. Prompts will be decided through a combination of votes, community submissions, and mod choice, all the details of which will be releasing very soon <3

We will be deleting our initial post announcing the May dates, and encourage everyone who reblogged it to delete it as well and instead reblog this update. Thank you for all you do to make this year's Zukka Week successful!

Reverse Bangs and You: An Infographic, featuring: Josh Boyfriend, corporate shill’. Brought to you by the mods of the TF Big Bang.

What is a Big Bang?

Big Bangs are fandom events where writers and artists are paried up to create a fic and art collaboration. They’re meant to generate an ‘explosion’ of new fanworks, hence the name. In traditional Bangs, the writer comes up with a fic concept, and the artist illustrates the resulting fic.

So… What’s a Reverse Bang?

In a Reverse Bang, the format is flipped. The artist comes up with a concept for their piece, and the fic writer uses that art as their prompt. This is what we’re doing this year!

Why a Reverse Bang?

1) A different dynamic. This year, artists get the chance to come up with their own prompts, and collaborate with a writer on a short fic. It’s an opportunity to approach your ideas a little differently!

2) Meet the community. Embrace the opportunity to become involved with the wider Transformers creative fandom!

3) Collaborate. Make something fun and exciting together with new friends! This is a chance to broaden your creative horizons.

How Does this Work?

Sign-ups: Artists have until March 24th to join. Writers have until April 7th to join. You must join the discord to participate. Remember- if you sign up, you’re in!

Artists' sketch submission: Artists submit their initial sketch to the Big Bang mods on April 28th. Sketches are shared with writers, who’ll then rank their selections for match-ups.

Pairings!: The mods will use our special algorithm™ to assign each writer one (1) artist from their top choices.

Creation period! Artists and writers will be set loose into their team channels. You’ll have from May 6th - June 30th to finish your fic and artwork. At the end of it all, it’s time to post your work and say “Whoa, I did that!”

Want to work with someone new?

Meet new friends! Work with a prompt you might not have thought up on your own! Random pairs aren’t exactly random. Writers will rank a set number of artworks they would be interested in using as a prompt for their fic, and the mods will algorithmically assign teams based on this.

Already have a collaborator?

Pre-paired groups come into the event knowing they want to work with each other. When applying to the event, there will be a line where you can request a partner. In order to be accepted as pre-paired, both the artist and writer must request each other. The second section is about the size of the event.

This year we go mini!

Smaller commitment: Lower requirements, lower stress. We’re requiring one (1) full illustration from our artists and 5,000 words from our authors.

Faster timeline: This year, our turnaround from sign-ups to posting is only four months. It’s a smaller commitment!

Bitesized fun: Get a little taste of collaborating with a new friend in the fandom!

Since time got away on us older mods and we've been otherwise occupied we decided to head straight into announcing themes for this year. We apologize for not running a poll but we've recruited extra help and will aim to be better in the future!

For this year's themes/prompts, pick anything you'd like to represent those times in his life - multiple things if you want!

🌛🌝🌜 Harvesting the power of the Triple Goddess

It's been a while, witches...

If you're like me and feel a bit burned out in this end of year, here's my idea to revive your spirit and get some much-needed energy back before 2024 starts.

🌛🌝🌜 Let's harvest the power of the triple goddess in the last 3 weeks of 2023.

🌛 Morning

Harvesting the power of the Maiden, which represents enchantment, inception, expansion, the promise of new beginnings, birth, youth and child-like enthusiasm.

Activity: 15 minutes morning meditation to reflect on the year, where you are today, the day's goals and challenges, and where you want to be next year.

🌝 Day

Harvesting the power of the Mother, which represents ripeness, fertility, sexuality, energy, fulfilment, stability, power and life.

Activities: daily act of creation, which can mean anything to you and your life - spell-casting, exercising, dancing, knitting, baking or cooking, crafting, decorating... The only requirement is that it is something you do just for you.

🌜 Evening

Harvesting the power of the Crone, which represents wisdom, repose, rest, death and endings.

Activity: ending the day with a book, to extract wisdom from other people and perspectives, and going to bed early, to feel rested and recover from the day.

JanAUary 2024!

Hey guys! First off, I want to thank everyone who participated in, or engaged with, Drabblecember2023 this year. Since it was so fun to host, we want to keep the fun going while also slowing it down a little. As such, may I introduce:

JanAUary 2024!

as hosted by myself, and @eternally-smitten, who also created our lovely prompt list graphic!

What is JanAUary ?

JanAUary is a (yet another) month-long selfship event, without the rigor of a 30-day, "a prompt a day" challenge.

For this event, selfshippers are invited to participate in AU-based content creation! A prompt list will be provided, with each prompt intended for a 3-4 day window, however prompts may be used in any order, for as many days as you wish, as not all prompts may be applicable to every ship.

The event will run from January 1st to February 1st.

Rules:

All selfshippers regardless if you are a follower, mutual, or someone that just stumbles across this in the tags are invited to participate, with the exception of pr*/c*mship/adjacent.

We also invite you to create you own prompt lists and ask games, and to take liberties with the prompts provided to fit them to your ships!

Artists of all kinds are invited to participate! Be it visual art, writing, renders, playlists, aesthetics, or anything else, we wholly want you to have fun. There will be no creative 'restrictions' on what can and can not be used to participate in this event.

How do I participate ?

That's entirely up to you! Just use the tag #janauary2024 when posting so that others, including myself, can find your work!

Gaara Week 2024!

Hello! And welcome to the TENTH YEAR of Gaara Week! A Gaara focused weekly challenge leading up to his birthday! This weekly challenge will start on the 12th of January and run until Gaara’s Birthday on the 19th of January.

To celebrate ten years we are bringing back themes from the past ten years!

Feel free to draw, write, make, cosplay, sing, dance, take screenshots, make gifs, whatever you want! As long as it has something to do with each separate day’s theme, and you create it yourself.

The year 2024′s themes:

12th January - DAY 1 - Just Gaara

13th January - DAY 2 - Kazekage

14th January - DAY 3 - Love

15th January - DAY 4 - Gardener

16th January - DAY 5 - Mr. Sandman

17th January - DAY 6 - Wounds will Heal

18th January - DAY 7 - Family

19th January - DAY 8 - Gaara’s Birthday!

Tag all your contributions with #gaaraweek and #gaaraweek2024! Make sure they’re in the first 5 tags listed otherwise they may not show up! You can also submit your creations to @justgaara or message me directly.

If you’re busy and don’t have time to join in everyday, then you’re welcome to pick out your favourites and just do a few. I will be following the tags all January, so if you don’t make it in time for this exact week, you are still able to complete the challenge in your own time. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask me over at @justgaara.

You are free to create whatever you want with each day’s theme, just know that @justgaara is strictly Gaara only, so if you make something that contains anyone else besides Gaara and his immediate family I won’t be able to share it on my blog.
