The Wilson family house was adorable. Two stories with chipped blue paint on the walls and yellowing white on the columns. You had beat Sam there, so you decided to just look around for a few minutes before meeting Sarah and the boys. You walked out to the dock in front of their house, admiring the water, how still and calm it was. You were staring into the distance when you heard small footsteps from behind you.
“You know, it’s rude to sneak up on people.” You weren’t sure which boy it was, but you were trying to present a non-threatening front.
“You know, it’s rude to invite yourself onto someone else's property.” You were surprised when you heard Sam’s voice respond to you. Turning quickly to face the man with the confused expression. “I thought you wouldn’t come to the States because of the whole Enemy of it thing.” He walked away from you, gesturing for you to follow as he picked up your abandoned duffle. “He’s not here if that’s who you’re looking for.” You shook your head as you crossed the threshold into the living room.
“I’m not here for him, although he would be a much welcome bonus.” The two of you shared a laugh. “But no, I’m here to help you however I can.” Sam’s eyes narrowed, wondering if he should question your generosity. Your eyes must have given away your desperation for a home because he decided against it.
“Okay, but if you’re here, you’re gonna work. We’ve got a lot of shit to get done if we’re going to fix this boat up.”
“What boat?” You smiled at him as he began explaining what was going on. He just skimmed the top of what was really happening, but you could tell he was worried even though he wore a good facade.
“Get changed into some clothes you don’t mind getting messed up.”
“Am I going to be doing, like, manual labor?” He gave you a ‘duh’ look to which you groaned, “So, shorts are out of the question?” Sam had already walked into the kitchen before replying.
“Only if you want to freeze your ass off!” You changed quickly into a pair of ripped mom jeans that you cinched with a belt at your waist and a white short sleeved shirt.
“Do you have an overshirt I can borrow?”
“You mean, a flannel?” Sam shot back as he exited the room.
“Yeah, an overshirt.”
“No. A flannel. Come on, say it with me, flannel.” He tossed one your way, which you put on the rolled the sleeves up to your elbows.
“It’s an overshirt, Sam. I’m not seeing the issue.”
“Y/N, it's a flannel. Just say flannel, why you gotta make it all fancy?” He walked out the back door and onto a wooden bridge that led to the marina the boat was docked at. He didn’t let the flannel thing go the whole way over, making you laugh loudly and shake your head. As you walked up the dock, you could see several people helping Sarah and Sam with their boat.
“This is all you guys?” You were amazed, you hadn’t seen togetherness like this since before Aunt Peggy died. “Wow.” You said mostly to yourself as Sam walked you up to the woman of the hour.
“Sarah, we’ve got another one. Sarah, Y/N. Y/N, Sarah.” You stuck your hand out for Sarah to shake, which she did kindly. “I’m going to work on getting some of the siding off the boat. Sarah, Y/N is all yours.” He darted off, leaving you with Sarah.
“What ya got for me, Sarah? I’m here to do whatever you need.” She began instructing you to help with cataloging everything that people were bringing. Whether it be rusty spare parts or a couple twenty dollar bills, Sarah wanted to know and she wanted a record of it. A truck pulled up next to the boat and Sam got out hugging the men that exited it.
“Tommy, Carlos, man, this is amazing.” They exchanged a few more words before one of them asked the inevitable question.
“How do we get it off the truck?” A loud scraping sound emitted as the pallet was taken from the truck bed. Bucky lifted the bundle of parts over his head effortlessly, dropping it on the ground. He turned to the group of three men staring at him.
“You’re welcome.” You laughed as you approached. Bucky hauled a gray and black case onto the truck bed, speaking to Sam about it. Suddenly, one of the pipe fittings went out of whack, causing a steady stream of air to escape on the boat. Sarah stopped in front of it on the dock.
“Sam!” She was holding her clipboard as she watched Sam try to stop the leak with a crescent wrench. Bucky walked up next to Sarah, saying hi before telling Sam he was doing it wrong.
“Men. They even mansplain to other men, can you believe that?” You said from beside Sarah while Bucky finished fixing the leak. You tilted your head to admire him, “But we love to watch them work, huh?” She laughed as you wiggled your eyebrows at her. Bucky and Sam turned back to you and Sarah and Bucky’s eyes widened when they landed on your figure. Sam walked toward the front of the boat as Bucky stopped to introduce himself to Sarah.
“Sarah--” His eyes flicked to yours, “Y/N.” Then he quickly followed behind Sam.
“Oh, what was that, Y/N?” Sarah teased, two can play at that game.
“I don’t know, what was your thing about, Sarah?” You said her name like Bucky did to mess with her. She shoved your shoulder away and pushed you back to work.
You had to admit, watching Bucky do domestic type things with his metal appendage did things to you. Just knowing that he was comfortable enough to be around Sam’s whole family with his arm fully on display, made you happy.  The sun was beginning to go down, and you were sharing a beer with Sam and Bucky. Bucky hadn’t spoken to you directly since he got there and it was starting to irk you. You thought that you had something, but maybe not. Bucky rose from his position on the boat, clinking his bottle with Sam’s, claiming he needed to find a hotel room so he could catch his flight tomorrow.
“You’re just gonna set me up like that, huh?” Sam joked.
“I just don’t wanna make it weird for your family.” But Bucky’s eyes caught yours as he spoke.
“Just stay here, man.” Sam began a rant about the people of the town, ending with, “Plus we already got one freeloader for the night, what’s one more, right?”
“Oh goodie! Are we going to braid each other’s hair and play Seven Minutes in Heaven, too?” you teased Sam, but Bucky stiffened.
“We can do whatever you want.” Sam said, then he pointed at Bucky, “Just don’t flirt with my sister. Cause if you do, I’ll have Carlos cut you up, feed you to the fish.” Bucky made a face at Sam before smiling again.
Later that night, after you had all eaten dinner and the kids had gone to bed, you contemplated what your next move was going to be. You were sitting in one of the patio couches outside, a blanket wrapped around your legs, watching the stars reflection in the water. Bucky walked out on the porch, a pair of sweats-- that he had to borrow from Sam because he didn’t pack anything-- slung low on his hips, his blue Henley stopping just before the waistband of his boxers.
His gaze met yours and he approached you as if you were a wild animal and you were going to run away if he made any sudden movements. Your legs had been sprawled across both cushions of the couch, so instead of letting you change positions, Bucky just lifted your legs and then rested them on his lap. His left hand was rubbing back and forth just above your ankle.
“Is there a reason you’ve been avoiding me, James?” He ignored your question all together, opting to ask his own.
“Do you remember when we first met?” You thought back to the first time that you ever saw him. Chained to a chair, hair hiding his face from nosy onlookers.
“Uh, yeah. You were being treated like an animal, caged in a glass box. Why?” His left hand never stopped its motion on your leg.
“When you first started staring at me, I was absolutely positive that it was out of fear. Then when I actually looked at you, you were curious.” You nodded your head, recalling the emotions.
“That was a stressful day.” You could sense that Bucky didn’t need your input to get to where he was going.
“Then, when we were in that stupid tiny blue car that Steve had crammed us into,” he paused to laugh at the memory, “I was sure in that moment, that I was never going to see you again.” His gaze hadn’t left his palms on your legs, refusing to meet your eyes. “And when I saw you in Madripoor, I was positive that it was just someone who looked a lot like you. It couldn’t have been you, I wasn’t that lucky.”
His left hand gripped your leg as he spoke, “But then you started talking and I would’ve known that voice anywhere. All I wanted was to be close to you.”
“Bucky, you almost broke my arm because I sucker punched Zemo.” He shushed you.
“All I wanted was to be close to you, but I’m also a violent person.” He brought his head up, locking his steel blue orbs with yours. “Then you kept talking and you were so smart. So beautiful.” His metal hand left your leg to cup your chin. “Every word out of your mouth mesmerized me, even when you were kind of insulting me.” His thumb stroked your jaw, traveling up to your bottom lip. “And God, the way you said my name.” Your nostrils flared and your brow raised.
“What? James?” You trapped your bottom lip in between your teeth, giving Bucky reason to pull it out with his metal thumb. Your tongue shot out to wet your lips out of habit and Bucky shot you a glare.
“Doll. What’re you doing to me?” He dropped his thumb back to your cheek as his eye flicked over your face. He brought his hands down to your waist, holding it tightly and pulling you closer to him. Your ass now rested against his right leg, and he transferred his grip to wrap around your blanket covered thighs. A squeal escaped your lips without your permission, making your face contort.
“When we were sitting at the bar in your gallery I wanted nothing more than to smother you with all my love and affection.” Your heart rate increased, you want that too. “I’m glad I wasn’t able to though.” Your stomach dropped, a feeling of rejection washing over you. You began to pull away from him, wanting to escape his touch. He gripped your legs tighter against his body, “At that time, I wasn’t what I should be for you. I’ll probably never be exactly what I should be for you, but I’m selfish enough right now that I don’t care anymore.” He twisted his upper body to face you.
“What are you talking about, James?” A visible shiver ran down his spine as you said his real name. He brought both his hands up to grip your face. The cool air added to the temperature difference of his hands.
“I’m talking about this.” It wasn’t a half a second later that his lips were on yours. It took you a second to respond, but you did with fervor. Your hands traveled to his neck to show him that you wanted this too. His fingers fanned out, cupping behind your ears to bring you impossibly closer to him. His tongue traced your bottom lip, seeking entrance which you denied playfully. He brought his thumbs to rest on your chin, applying pressure as he asked again. At this point, you didn’t care about the pardon, or Karli and the Flag Smashers, or Sharon and the Power Broker, or even Sam, Sarah and the boys. You could only focus on James’ lips that were molding so perfectly with your own. You eventually had to break apart, your fingertips coming to rest on James’ kiss swollen lips. You locked eyes with him again, his pupils blown wide, and the two of you laughed.
“Oh, that.” You traced his lips while holding his stare. “Is that why you haven’t been talking to me?” He nodded quickly, gaze drifting down to your lips again. He leaned forward wanting to steal another kiss, but you stopped him. “That’s not okay behavior, James. You can’t just not talk to me because you’re frustrated with yourself.” He hummed a noise of assent, kissing your fingertips on his lips. His palm came up to keep your fingers pressed to his lips as his eyes roamed your face. “What does this mean, James? You aren’t just going to get my hopes up and then walk away right?”  He pulled back from you, a look of disappointment crossing his features.
“I’m sorry if I’ve made you feel like that would be a possibility.” He took a deep breath, “After my time in Wakanda, after Shuri de-programmed me, I thought I finally had a group of people I could trust. Then, Ayo was able to remove my arm within the blink of an eye, but not the way that they had when they were tweaking it.” He rested his body against the back of the patio couch. “My therapist had been telling me that I needed to trust someone, and up until that point, I did. I thought I had people who fully trusted me as well.” He looked over at you, silent tears racing down his cheeks. “This clearly isn’t a good excuse, but I felt like you wouldn’t have trusted me either.” Your hands came up to his face, wiping away his tears.
“James, I’ve known of you for years before I met you. Remember how Sharon said I did that report on you in high school?” He nodded as much as your hold on his face would allow him to. “Well, that’s when I first fell in love with the idea of you.” His eyes widened as you continued speaking. “Then, I was lucky enough to meet you and it felt like everything fell into place. After Sharon and I ran off to Madripoor, I wasn’t sure if I was going to see you again, and I was okay with that because maybe you were better left as an idea.” You laughed as you looked down at your lap, dropping your hands from his face. “Then I got dusted during the Blip, which is a whole other thing and then Sharon said that you were in Madripoor.” You shook your head then faced him, eyes locking with his red rimmed pair.
“I would love to fall in love with you. And right now, I want nothing more than to let the trust we have for each other grow into something more.” A wide smile spread across his face and he bared his teeth at you, scrunching his face at the nose.
“I want that too.” He leaned forward slapping a sloppy kiss onto your lips, which you returned with equal intensity. When Bucky pulled back from you to catch his breath, he left his forehead resting against your own. Your breaths synchronized and he patted his hand twice on your outer thigh, signalling you that he was going to get up. “We better get some sleep.” He stood in front of you, offering you his hand. You smiled as you entwined your fingers with his metal ones.
Luckily, Cas and AJ were kind enough to share a room tonight so you could sleep in the other. Bucky’s hand never left your side as he walked you up the stairs. Once you had reached the closed door, he wrapped his arm around you, twisting your body to face him, back pressed against the cold wood of the door. He pushed his whole body forward, molding your bodies together as his hands hooked into the waistband of your sleep shorts.
“I’m glad that we talked, Y/N.” He pecked your lips, pulling back afterwards to stare at your face.
“I’m glad we did too, but what are you doing?” A nervous laugh left your lips and Bucky’s eyes followed the movement.
“You’re just so pretty.” He leaned forward kissing your cheeks, “I’m happy,” A kiss to your chin. “that I’ll be able to,” one to your nose, “call you my doll soon.” His lips lingering on your forehead before bringing his chin up to the top of your head, pulling you into him for a hug. You brought your arms up to wrap around his waist, your face pressed into the spot where his neck and collarbone met.
“Am I not already your doll?” Your question was muffled against his skin, but he heard you.
“Not until I specifically ask you. You can be mine without being my doll, but I want to wine and dine you before I feast.” Your brows raised again and your lips rolled inwards.
“Before you feast?” You were holding back a laugh, so Bucky pulled back, his hands gripping your shoulders, face serious.
“Feast.” He reached behind you opening the door. He gave you a quick smooch before pushing you into the empty room, alone with your thoughts. You had a harder time falling asleep that night. Bucky, on the other hand, had no problem, sleeping like a rock with a smug smile on his face.
You woke up to the sound of eggshells being cracked and forks hitting the sides of ceramic plates. Walking down the stairs and into the kitchen, you saw Sarah working over the stove while Cas was scrambling eggs. Sarah heard you coming down, ever the always aware mother.
“Hey, hope you’re hungry, ‘cause you aren’t leaving this kitchen without eating somethin’.” She watched as you peered into the living room, searching for Bucky’s imposing figure. “I think he’s down at the dock with Sam. They left real early this morning and girl, I swear to God if they’re messin’ with that water pump, I’m going to strangle the both of them.” You laughed, taking the plate of scrambled eggs that AJ was holding out to you.
“Did you tell them that the water pump wasn’t the issue?” She nodded as she stirred the eggs in her pan. “Then you know that they are, Sarah.” The two of you shared a laugh as Cas and AJ sat down to eat, as well.
“Y’all better hurry up before you’re late for the bus.” The boys quickly shoved their remaining food into their mouths, rushing out the door after kissing their mother goodbye.
“How do you do it?” Sarah’s head tilted, wondering what you were referring to. “Being a single mother and managing a business? Does it all get to be too much sometimes?” She could tell you were genuinely curious, so she sighed.
“It’s definitely challenging at times, but thankfully I have a good enough relationship with AJ and Cas that we’re able to get through pretty much anything. After we lost their Dad, I was all alone and scared. I’m still scared a lot of the time, scared that I’m going to mess them up, you know?” She paused a second to recollect her thoughts. “It’s just by chance that we live in this amazing community that helped me whenever I needed a little bit of assistance.” The conversation between the two of you fizzled after that, perhaps it was too heavy a topic for breakfast to handle. You followed her to meet a group of people at the marina, but the journey there wasn’t silent.
“So, I have a question, but you don’t have to answer it if you don’t want to. Although I feel like if you don’t answer it, you’re kind of answering it.” You encouraged her to ask whatever she wanted to. “You and Bucky are a thing, right?” You coughed, unsure of how to answer. “That’s all the confirmation I needed.” Sarah smiled at you as your mouth struggled to form words.
“We are, but we aren’t?” Sarah gave you a look making you roll your eyes. “I don’t know he said that he was excited to see where this was going and then we kissed, so yes?”
“Oh, he looks like a good kisser.”
“Right? Just like he’s got the bone structure and lip plumpness ratio down to a T.” There was a brief moment of silence before the two of you burst into a fit of laughter. The walk down the marina dock wasn’t a long one, so you were able to see Sam and Bucky hunched over a pile of scattered parts.
“Uh-huh. No. No.” Sarah’s head began shaking as Sam was arguing with Bucky, who wasn’t paying attention to him. Instead, his eyes were roaming your figure, lingering on your face. His eyes darted to Sam before he greeted the two of you with a wave of his hand.
“I told you specifically that the water pump was not the problem, and yet, here you are.”
“Yep, Samuel.” Bucky teasingly berated, taking Sarah’s side.
“You’re in just as much trouble, you by-stander.” Your voice lilted into a playful tone as Bucky made a shocked face at you.
“In our defense, we were supposed to be done long before you woke up.”
“I don’t come up to the sky to tell you how to barrel roll, so don’t come down here and mess around with things you don’t understand.” Your fist came up to your mouth.
“Oh, that’s a-burn, Bird Brain.” You pointed a finger at Sam, clutching your stomach with your other hand as Sarah swatted the two boys away. Bucky stopped next to you, wrapping his metal arm around the front of your body, delivering a soft kiss to your temple. He left with Sam, arguing the whole way to the house while you stayed with Sarah, reassembling the water pump.
By the time you had gotten back to the Wilson house, Bucky was hauling his backpack strap onto his shoulder. You slowed your approach, holding your open palms in front of you, confused as to what Bucky was doing.
“Where are you going?” He turned to face you, a smile spreading over his face. His metal arm wrapped around your waist again, pressing a kiss to your temple.
“I’m heading to New York, I’ve got some stuff to wrap up there. I want you to come with me.” You were taken aback, what about Karli and the GRC?
“We haven’t finished this whole thing with the Flag Smashers, or Walker. Bucky, we can’t just walk away from our responsibilities.” Bucky’s hands clasped around your shoulders.
“We aren’t, Y/N, I promise. Sam has Torres doing something with some signal do-dads and he’s going to call us the second he gets a lead.” He spoke calmly and you thought it over. At least he wasn’t trying to run away again, he was accepting that he had a real role in this. You could feel a shift coming, you weren’t quite sure what it meant, but you were hoping it was a good one.
“Okay, let’s go to New York.”
The two of you hadn’t even been in New York maybe twenty minutes when Sam texted Bucky that he had a line on where Karli was. Supposedly she was heading a takeover of the GRC meeting in Lower Manhattan. If being in New York as a wanted person was nerve wracking enough, now you were going to be surrounded by hundreds of government officials and some of New York’s finest. Bucky was on the phone with Sam, talking through the plan when your phone buzzed. Pulling the device out of your pocket, you saw Sharon’s name pop up.
“Heard you were having a bit of trouble with Karli again. Don’t worry, help is on the way, dear.” Your eyes rolled, still not over your argument before.
“You don’t need to be here for this Sharon.” You paused for a second, your left hand resting on your hip. “How did you even hear about this? Sam just now called Bucky, and I guarantee that he didn’t call you first.” Sharon chuckled on her end of the phone.
“You underestimate my reach, Y/N. I’ll meet you outside the building.” Your jaw clenched.
“Sharon, you said you didn’t want to help. What the hell changed that you’re so willing to put yourself in the middle of all this shit?” She was silent on her end.
“I figured you would want me there.” Well, shit what the fuck were you supposed to say to that?
“Lower Manhattan, keep quiet.” You hung up the phone before she could say anything else. You hated not talking to her, and being mad at her was next to impossible. This was your way of saying ‘I forgive you,’ and you knew she would understand. Bucky didn’t say anything as he watched you push your phone into the pockets of your jeans. He could tell something was off, but he could also see that you definitely didn’t want to talk about it right now. Instead he jerked his head for you to follow him, leading you through the streets of Manhattan.
The two of you could see the red lights illuminating the streets, letting you know that you were here. Bucky turned to you, holding his hand out to you, a single earpiece laying in the middle of his palm. As you took it, his hand drifted to your jaw, lifting it to face him. He placed a sweet kiss to your lips before nodding for you to stay behind him. You pulled the brim down on the hat you wore as you stuck to Bucky like glue. He led you through the barricade, one of the soldiers addressing him accordingly.
“Sergeant Barnes.” You made a face beneath your cap, holding back a laugh as Bucky came to a stop in front of you.
“Oh, Sergeant Barnes.” Bucky looked at you over his shoulder as his skin twitched. Your eyes widened. “Does that turn you on, James?” He wasn’t able to answer because of an interruption by Sam’s voice in your ears.
“By the way, I called in some backup.” An agent approached the two of you while Sam kept speaking. “Also, please remember that I can hear everything you say, Y/N. And I don’t need to know what makes the Tin Man tick.” You laughed at Sam’s statement as a twinge of pink ran up the back of Bucky’s neck.
“Excuse me, sir. Are you supposed to be here?” The agent’s hand came up to his hairline. A click sounded as the agent’s face began to glitch. “It’s me.”
“Sharon, what the hell are you doing here?” Sharon pointed an accusatory finger at you.
“Why didn’t you say that to her? The same people who want me in the Raft, want her there too. Or did you forget that?”
“Do I hear Sharon?” Sam asked as he listened in on your conversation.
“Unfortunately.” Bucky grumbled back.
“Hey Sam. I thought I’d get the band back together.” She threw a wink at you as she stepped closer to Bucky. Sam said something else to her, but you had zoned out to watch Sharon. “I hear pardons aren’t all they’re cracked up to be anyway.”
“Depends on the therapist.” Bucky said as he backed away from Sharon and closer to you.
“They’re going to move on the building soon. Be ready.” Sam brought you all back to the task at hand, switching into Captain mode. Bucky nodded to you and Sharon.
“Go with her.” You made a face at him, about to protest when he cut you off. “I don’t care. Stick with her, Y/N. Don’t get arrested though. We’ve got a date.” He wrapped his arm around the front of your waist, like he did at the Wilson house. He pressed a kiss to your temple, staying a little longer than necessary and giving your hip a squeeze before he released you. You heard glass break above your head as Sam crashed through one of the windows upstairs.
“You guys are going to have to do something. Don’t let ‘em out of the building.” You walked behind Bucky to enter the building, the metal detector going off for both you and Sharon. You shared a look with the woman.
“Oops.” Bucky pointed at a guard in tactical gear while he stepped forward.
“He’s one of them. I’ll get the evac.” He left before you could stop him, leaving you and Sharon to deal with the man he pointed at. The both of you followed him to the parking garage, where he was standing post next to two black armored vehicles. The two of you were waiting behind a pillar as you debated what to do.
“We need to stop him.”
“If we take him down now, they’re going to be suspicious and we are going to get arrested. Cool your jets, Y/N.” Your nostrils flared at her tone, crossing your arms over your chest.
“Why didn’t you tell Sam you were already coming?”
“What?” Sharon seemed startled by the question as if you didn’t catch the slip Sam said earlier.
“Sam said that he called in backup. I’m assuming he meant you because we’re the only four people he knows. So why didn’t you tell him you were already coming, or already here or whatever?”
“I didn’t think it was important.” She said dismissively, you could tell she wanted you to drop the subject, but you wanted the truth. Throwing a glance up to the guard, you saw him helping the GRC officials into the vans.
“Damn it Bucky, you had one job.” Bucky ran past you, grumbling a response as he loaded his weight onto a motorbike.
“We aren’t done with this, Sharon.” You pointed at her before she walked away from you. You watched as she ran into the guard then apologized profusely to him. When you caught up to her, she clicked a button in her hand, releasing a noxious gas in the guard’s face. You saw his skin being bubbling and sizzling.
“How’d you do that?” Your eyes hadn’t left the man in the car.
“Mercury vapor, amongst other things.” The two of you continued walking out of the garage, a helicopter started taking off from the helipad on the top of the building.
“Sam, that chopper’s about to take off.”
“Bucky!”
“I don’t fly, man. That’s your thing.” Sam groaned in the earpiece and then you saw him shoot out the window again, chasing after the helicopter. You walked alongside Sharon, following Bucky’s path after the NYPD vans. You got to the barricade just in time to see Scruff holding one of the cars back from falling off a ledge. You were too far away to be able to get to him in time to help, though. You stood next to Sharon as he was ripped away from the back of the car. Your heart dropped as your gaze went to Bucky, who was standing directly underneath the car that was about to crush him.
The crowd around you was holding their phones in front of their faces, at an angle that all they could see was the back of the NYPD van full of GRC officials screaming for help. As the car slipped farther and farther down the platform, your stomach churned more and more. Suddenly, the car stopped, hovering over the opening in the ground. You could make out Sam’s new wings on either side of the car. He pushed forward, lifting the car back to a safe position and then moving away, allowing the crowd to see him fully. The star on his suit glinted proudly as he stood still for a second. The crowd erupted in cheers for the savior. A man to your left cheered for ‘Black Falcon,’ but the man beside him corrected him before you had the chance to.
“No. That’s Captain America.” Red Wing left Sam’s suit to undo the locking mechanism on the back of the van and the GRC officials evacuated the vehicle quickly. Sam turned in the air, removing his shield from his back and throwing it at the Flag Smashers below, knocking them off their feet. At some point, you began moving toward the edge of the platform, ready to help and away from Sharon.
An explosion went off to your right, causing you to search for the source. Puffs of smoke were being thrown in the pit where Sam and Bucky stood and you could see Karli getting away in the confusion. Bucky’s voice rang through your ear.
“Hey. We’re underground. We entered the tunnel on William. Heading south.” You searched for Sharon so you could join up again, but you couldn’t find her. You could hear Sam telling Bucky that the Smashers had split up, and you knew that Bucky would’ve gone with Scruff to keep an eye on him, the unstable bastard. Out of the corner of your eye, you could see Sharon crouched behind a stack of pallets, and your brows furrowed. She began whistling and then you heard Karli’s voice.
“Dovich? Is that you?” Sharon emerged from behind the stack, holding her gun in front of her.
“I’m disappointed in you.” Karli brought her gun up as well, speaking to Sharon as an old friend.
“That’s what I was gonna say.” Sharon brought her hands up in surrender, and your head tilted, what the fuck is going on? “You know, when you first came to Madripoor, you reminded me of a young me. I took you in, gave you an opportunity, and you betrayed me.” Oh hell no.
“Because you wanted to control a world that hurt you.” Karli lowered her gun but all her senses remained in overdrive. “But I wanted to change it. I’m not interested in power or an empire. I have bigger dreams.” Sharon scoffed, looking around, her eyes darting over where you were hidden behind a stack of boxes. Could it really be? Was Sharon really the person that you thought you knew?
“What, like this?” She stepped closer to Karli. “Come back and work for me again. All of you. We can make a difference together.” Sharon was trying really hard to convince Karli, but she wasn’t having it.
“You just want me because you need your muscle back. Without us Super Soldiers, how much power does the Power Broker really have?” Motherfucker. You zoned out a bit, trying to decide what to do. A male voice began speaking in French causing you to refocus.
“Four times, or--” You could see Batroc’s gun pointed at Karli and Sharon’s face was indifferent.
“I don’t do blackmail.” Sharon gripped her gun tighter, raising it quickly to shoot Batroc. Karli panicked and shot Sharon in the process. The gunshots were loud enough to give Sam an idea of where you were all located. You came out from your position, gun gripped in your hand as you stood closer to Sharon. Maybe you could salvage this situation before Sam got here.
“Karli, calm down.” You kept a tight hold on your pistol as you talked. “Look, I get it. You’re scared, but I’m going to need you to put the gun down.”
“I’ll put mine down when you do.” You could hear a slight shake in her voice. You tilted your head at her apologetically.
“You know I can’t do that.” You cast a glance at Sharon who was clutching her stomach, attempting to stop the blood flow. Karli gulped as she raised her gun again.
“Well, I can’t have any loose ends now, can I? You taught me that, Power Broker.” She sneered at a groaning Sharon. A blinding pain began radiating from your shoulder and your hand immediately when to the area. The force of the bullet knocked you off your feet, slamming your head into the ground.
“Shit, what the fuck Karli!” You could make out Sam’s figure coming up from behind Karli. You saw him process Karli standing over one dead body and two injured ones. The wheels began turning and he started speaking.
“So, what’s next, huh? You kill ten this time, then, what, a hundred? Where does it end?” He stepped closer to an agitated Karli. “Please, let me help you.” He kept his voice calm.
“Don’t try and manipulate me.” Karli approached Sam ready to attack. Their fight continued as she pushed Sam backwards.
“I’m not gonna fight you!” She knocked Sam down to the ground, with the swing of a metal bar.
“Stay down!” She shouted at him. You pushed yourself to your knees, adrenaline pumping allowing you to get to Sharon to help hold pressure on her stomach. You watched from over Sharon as Sam rose to his feet, holding his body in a fighting stance.
“I can do this all day.” She launched herself at Sam, throwing his body back into a bunch of cinder blocks. Sam held his shield in front of him, protecting from her punches.
“Fight back!” She shouted as she delivered blow after blow. Sam ducked low, grabbing onto her torso, using his thrusters to send the both of them flying. Karli used the momentum to push off the ground, to bring Sam up to the ceiling. You sat back on your knees, worry lacing your features.
Sam held one of her hands to his chest as she continued throwing the other into his shield. She gripped the top edge of the shield, using it to gain leverage. She pulled her hand away from his chest, tossing his body forward. The shield slipped from Sam’s arm and he laid on the ground, recovering from her attacks. Karli leant down to pick up her gun and you pushed yourself to your feet, ready to tackle her.
She raised her gun, aiming it at a now shieldless Sam. Karli hesitated, staring at Sam before committing to her cause, ready to kill Captain America. You were steadily creeping forward as she debated, but you could see the moment she decided to pull the trigger. Just before she could, a gunshot sounded from behind you. A gasp left your lips as Sam ran to hold Karli.
Your head whipped around to see Sharon leaning against the stack behind her, gun still smoking. Sharon shook her head at you as she holstered her weapon. Sam lifted Karli into his arms and carried her away from the both of you. You stood a good three feet away from Sharon, hand on your gun in the waistband of your jeans.
“When were you going to tell me that you’re the Power Broker.”
“What the hell are you on about now, Y/N.” Your brows raised and your mouth opened in shock.
“I was fucking here when Karli was talking to you, dumbass. Is that why you shot her? ‘Can’t have any loose ends,’ she said you taught her that, Sharon. What the fuck?” Sharon laughed at you.
“You’re imagining things, Y/N.” She rose to her feet and began walking away from you.
“Sharon, don’t fuck with me right now. How long have you been the fucking Power Broker?” You followed her up the tunnel and out to where you could see Sam lecturing a Senator. Sneaking around to a medical bag, you grabbed two pieces of gauze.
“I’m not the Power Broker.” Sharon rolled her eyes at you, leaning against a car behind the ambulances. You were about to say something else when you saw Bucky and Sam approach the two of you. They took in the two of you, an angry look on your face and an annoyed one on hers.
“You’re blocking my light.” Sharon bit out to Sam.
“We got to get you to a hospital.” Sam told Sharon as Bucky walked up to you, pulling your gauze away from your shoulder, checking your bullet wound.
“It’s through and through and you know they aren’t going to listen to you.”
“It’s not the worst thing that’s happened to me all week.” Your eyes glared at Sharon as you spoke. How long has she been doing this behind your back? Someone called for Sam’s attention.
“I think he’s talking to you.” Sharon said, turning away from the newcomer’s view. “Look, I’m sorry for how things ended down there.” Your jaw clenched but you remained silent. “For what it’s worth, the suit looks good on you.” She played a good victim, that’s for sure.
“Alright, can we get out of here, please?” Bucky wrapped his arm around your waist, leading you away from the ambulances and news cameras.
“I didn’t forget my promise either, guys.” Sam nodded at the two of you before turning to do his Cap duties. Bucky remained silent beside you, content with just being in your presence again.
He led you to his apartment, bringing you to the bathroom where he pulled out a first aid kit. He placed it on the countertop, placing his hands on your hips and lifting you onto the granite.
“You’re gonna need to take your shirt off.” He flipped the top of the kit open, searching for what he needed.
“Trying to get me naked already? At least take me to dinner first, Sergeant.” You winked as you peeled your shirt off. Bucky glared at you then quickly looked at your shoulder.
“This is going to hurt, just so you know.” He didn’t give you time to say anything else before starting to clean the hole in your shoulder. You hissed as stings radiated from the wound, cursing under your breath as he blew on it. “Alright, here we go.”  Bucky began stitching, returning your body to its former glory in his eyes. “How’d you managed to get shot?”
“I was attempting to get Karli to drop her gun.” You debated on telling Bucky what you learned about Sharon. “Who do you think the Power Broker is?” You asked gauging his reaction. His attention never wavered from his task. He soon finished with the front side of your shoulder, backing away and telling you to face the mirror. Bucky leaned forward, his hips pressing against your ass as he set to work on the exit wound.
“I have my theories. What about you?” You looked at the granite below, tracing the different lines, not answering for a few minutes.
“Mm, not really.” Was it naive to keep the knowledge to yourself? Probably, but this way you could deal with Sharon on your own and not have to involve Captain America.
“Y/N. You lived there for years, you’re telling me that you never encountered the Power Broker? Never worked for him before, procuring a particular art piece?” You shook your head as you felt him start to wrap your shoulder.
“No, I made sure that all my dealings were as clean as the illegal art trade could be.” Bucky nodded, closing the first aid kit and placing it back under the sink. He walked out of the bathroom and into his kitchen, pulling out a bottle of Advil. He shook two tablets into his metal hand and gave them to you along with a water bottle from the fridge.
“Take these and then go lay down. You need to sleep so your body can heal.” You could tell something was bothering him. You reached out to grasp his metal wrist.
“Hey, what’s wrong? Hmm?”
“Nothing. I’ve just got something to do.” You nodded.
“Do you want me to come with you?” His head shook back and forth in denial.
“No, I need to do this alone. I’ll be back soon. Whenever I get back you better be asleep in that bed.” He pointed at the door to his room. He walked up next to you, wrapping his arm around the front of your waist and giving you a kiss on your temple. “I’ll be back, doll. I’ve just got a few things to wrap up.”
He left soon after, leaving you alone in his barren apartment. It was easy to see that he hadn’t made it his home. Probably feeling like he had no reason to, no ties to anyone here. Makes it easier when you have to bug out in a pinch. You walked into his room, searching for a shirt to wear to bed. Finding one of his shirts hanging in his closet, you pulled it over your head after removing your bra. You took off your jeans, trading them for your sleep shorts from your bag.
You climbed into his bed, waiting for his scent to envelope you, but it never came. Has he ever actually slept in this bed? So you laid there, unable to fall asleep, too many thoughts swirling in your brain. How long has Sharon been the Power Broker? Did it start when you first got to Madripoor? Or was it after you were dusted and she was there alone for five years? None of this changed the fact that she needed to be stopped. The amount of influence she had was too great. Your phone buzzed on the nightstand next to the bed, so you rolled over to pick it up.
Court hearing with the Senators tomorrow at 8 A.M. for you. -Sam
You thought about the possibility of being welcome back into your own country and not being treated like a criminal. Thought of the possibility of going to work for the government again. Of working with Bucky and Sam. Of being with Bucky without having to look over your shoulder all the time, and it made you smile. Your phone buzzing brought you out of your trance.
Also, you and Bucky need to come to my house tomorrow. Sarah’s throwing a party, they got the boat finished so we’re celebrating.
That made your smile grow, you were happy for the first time in a long time. The lock of the front door clicked and you jumped out of the bed, grabbing your knife, ready for an attack. You waited behind the door to Bucky’s bedroom, then swung it open. Your hand came up to the intruder's throat and your mind switched out of attack dog mode when you saw Bucky’s raised brow.
“Is there a reason for this?” His eyes were red and he had tear stains on his cheeks. You flipped your knife back down and placed it on top of your jeans.
“Sorry. Are you okay, James?” He shook his head and you opened your arms to him. He walked into your embrace, before exhaling harshly into your uninjured shoulder.
“No, but I will be.” He backed away for a second, taking in your form. “Didn’t I tell you that you were supposed to be asleep when I got back? Also, is that my shirt?”
“Yes, you did and yes, it is. Do you have an issue with that, Sergeant?” He quickly shook his head back and forth, leaning down to pick you up by your thighs and tossing you onto his bed.
“Not at all, doll. You look better in it than I do.” He smiled at you as he stripped down to his boxers before climbing into bed with you. Bucky tossed his arm over your waist, pulling your body into his. He sighed contentedly, basking in the way you smelled.
“Sam got me a hearing for a pardon.”
“Oh yeah? When’s that?” Bucky’s voice was muffled because he had buried his face in your neck, peppering small pecks there.
“Tomorrow morning at nine. Are you going to come?” Bucky thought on it for a moment, before shaking his head.
“I have one more thing to take care of.” You nodded.
“They got the boat fixed and Sarah invited us to the party. Sam says we have to go, it’s tomorrow too. I don’t actually know what time though he didn’t say.”
“Alright, I’ll pick something up to bring after I finish my thing.” You turned to face him, a smirk plastered on your face.
“So, Sergeant does it for you?” You giggled as he groaned and removed his arm from your waist. His hand came up to run through his hair, scratching his head
“Are we doing this right now, Y/N?” You released a cackle of a laugh, nodding in response. “Oh that’s how you’re gonna play this?” He attacked your sides, beginning to tickle you causing you to react accordingly. Somehow, he managed to end up on top of you, in between your thighs. He stopped suddenly to watch as you writhed and giggled.
“What?” You started getting self-conscious, afraid that there was something on your face. Your hands came up to hide your face from him, but Bucky wasn’t having it. He took your hands away from your face by trapping your wrists beside your head. “What? Why are you doing that?” You questioned, only halfway serious.
“You’re just so pretty.” He leaned forward, his lips meeting yours in a gentle kiss that soon turned into something else. His hands traveled back down to your sides, resting on the bare skin showing from your shirt having ridden up. The temperature difference shocked you enough to make you gasp, giving Bucky the perfect opportunity to slip his tongue in your mouth, escalating the situation.
Your hands came up to the back of his head, holding him in the kiss, guaranteeing that he wasn’t going anywhere. They made their way down his body to rest on his shirtless back. He pushed forward with his hips, the fabric separating the two of you becoming increasingly annoying. Bucky pulled back slightly, nudging you to open your eyes. There was a silent interaction between the two of you in that moment, neither of you was ready for anything intense, so the momentum slowed, but the energy level remained.
Bucky’s hands never left your body that night. Exploring and memorizing every ridge, every stretch mark, every piece of you that made you, you. You drifted your fingers over the scarred skin next to his arm, tiny feather touches that made him hum. Falling asleep in his arms was the easiest thing you ever had to do. And for Bucky, being able to hold you as you flutter asleep was beautiful. He watched as your face relaxed and all the tension left your body, allowing yourself to melt into his embrace. Bucky didn’t like to admit it, but he was a touch starved human being. All those years in and out of cryo and isolation gave his body plenty of reason to crave genuine human touch. And to have a human as charming and annoying as you was a dream come true, his doll.
You woke up before Bucky the next morning. You looked over at his face, tranquility lacing his features, unburdened with no glorious purposes. He was just your James. The two of you had separated sometime during the night, so you scooted closer to his frame. His metal arm is thrown across the pillow behind your head, giving you perfect access to his neck and chest. You glanced at the clock across the room, the hands telling you that it was seven thirty in the morning. If you wake him now, you could have at least thirty-five minutes of bliss, plus some heavy petting if you both were feeling cheeky.
You leaned forward towards his neck, placing tiny kisses from the base of his ear to the puckered skin of his shoulder. You were so focused on your task that you didn’t recognize the change in his breathing pattern.
“Good morning, doll.” If you could melt into the mattress, that would’ve done it. His fucking rasp grated you into a fine powder of a human. You hummed at him, not stopping your kisses, instead climbing up to his jaw and then to his lips. He turned his head and playfully laughed. “Nuh-uh, we’ve got morning breath, ya nasty.” You groaned, retreating from his figure completely.
“Fine, we will brush our teeth together and then come right back to this bed and you will love me, damn it.” Bucky laughed at you as you drug yourself into his bathroom. This was the type of bliss you wanted, and you only wanted to share it with a particular metal armed super soldier. It didn’t take long to brush your teeth, and you pushed on Bucky’s back to get him into the bed quicker. When he did get back into the bed, he was grumbling.
“I don’t know why we’re getting back in bed, we’re already up now.” He smiled as you glared at him. Bucky’s back was leaned against his headboard, so you swung your leg over his thighs, straddling his lower half. His hands rested on your waist as you brought yours up to the sides of his face.
“You frustrate me.” You said with a loving smile and tone before pecking his lips softly as he laughed. “What time do you have to leave for your thing?” You played with the strings of your sleep shorts as he answered you.
“Around eight-thirty, it takes me about thirty minutes to get there and it doesn’t open until nine.”
“I’m gonna be leaving around then, too. What do you wear when you’re going in front of senators to be pardoned for stealing a metal frisbee?” Bucky huffed a laugh, pulling you closer to him wrapping his arms around your back. “I’m thinking a crop top that says “Fuck You,” would that be too obvious?”
“Yeah, that one might be a little on the nose.” Bucky checked your shoulder as he spoke. “Your shoulder looks good, no infection, thanks to me.” He plastered a wide smile on his face afterwards. “Do you know what time Sharon’s hearing is?” You stiffened slightly at the mention of Sharon.
“Uh, no. Sam just told me my time and I haven’t talked to Sharon.” Bucky’s head tilted.
“Everything okay on that front?”
“Not really?” You went back and forth on what to tell him. You didn’t want to give him the extra burden of knowing what Sharon was. “We had a fight a few days ago and neither one of us has cooled off about it, so that’s a bit rocky.”
“Do you want to talk about it?” You shook your head, so Bucky just held you tighter. “Okay, you don’t have to.” He held you for a few more minutes, before backing away. “Alright we need to get ready.” You groaned, slackening your body, making everything about you dead weight.
“No. I don’t wanna.” You sounded like a child.
“You sound like a child.” Oh you whore, get out of my head, butt munch. Bucky said, pushing your body off his. He walked to his closet as you laid spread out like a starfish on his bed. Bucky had already picked out a shirt and put on pants whenever he walked back in and you were still laid on his bed.
“You’re gonna be late.” He leaned over your head, appearing to you upside down. His arms were resting on either side of your face, dropping down he pressed a kiss to your lips. “You’ve got to get up, Y/N.” He went to the other end of the bed, where your feet dangled off the edge. He grabbed your ankles and pulled you, you slid off the bed, taking the comforter with you. “Oh my god, this is pitiful, Y/N. You’re a grown woman!” Bucky shouted at you as he left the room.
The two of you parted ways after you got dressed, but not before Bucky wrapped his arm around the front of your waist and placed a kiss on your temple. You wondered why he did that so much, but you weren’t going to argue with the attention because you loved it. You walked up to the extravagant building that was bustling with people. Everything was white, you always wondered why that was. White represented innocence and America was anything but innocence. You ended up wearing your casual clothes for two reasons. One, you were being pardoned, why couldn’t you be comfortable for that? And two, you had somewhere to go after this and that was just as important as this court meeting to you. Walking into the courtroom, you took in all the faces in the seats. Your name was called immediately, so you approached the podium.
“Ms. Y/L/N, on behalf of the United States Intelligence Community, I’d like to offer you and your family our sincerest apologies.” You wanted to scoff, but you bit your tongue. “You’ve always been an incredible asset to our country. Today, we begin to set things right. We begin to repay some of the debt that is owed to you.” You bowed your head.
“Thank you, Senator. It’s been a long time coming.” You could see the Senator’s jaw clench, not used to being brushed off.
“And we’d like to offer you a full pardon. There might be an opening in your old division. Is that something that you’d be interested in?”
“Actually, Senator. I would like to thank you for that opportunity, but no. I’ll be working with Captain America.” The man’s whole body seemed to twitch.
“You aren’t authorized to make that kind of decision, Ms. Y/L/N.” This time you did scoff.
“Yeah, okay. Well thanks for the pardon.” You tapped the podium twice, leaning to walk away. “This has been great, I really feel like we’ve both said our peace. See ya later, Senator.” You walked out as you heard him calling your name. You pulled your phone out, dialing Bucky’s number.
“Hey doll! How’d court go?” You started walking to where you and Bucky had planned to meet after you got done with your respective tasks.
“Oh great! I’m working with Cap now.” You could almost see Bucky’s face.
“Wow, how’d you manage that?” You smirked.
“I can be very persuasive when I want to be, James.”
“Oh is that so, Y/N?” You could hear his smirk as he spoke. “Maybe you’ll have to be persuasive with me one day.” You laughed.
“James, I don’t have to be persuasive with you.” You caught sight of Bucky walking down the street with a store-bought cake in his hand. You held up your pinky finger wiggling it for emphasis, “I’ve got you wrapped around my finger.”
By the time you got to the marina that docked Paul & Darlene, you were buzzing with excitement. Bucky was giggling at your antics, you were practically bouncing in the passenger seat. As soon as Bucky got out of the car, Cas and AJ latched onto him. He went along with them, playing as if he was going to slam the cake into their faces. You walked past Bucky, hugging everyone who greeted you. Once you reached Sarah, you sat down on the picnic table for a second before taking off again. You stood to the side as you watched Sam take picture after picture with pretty much everyone from town.
Bucky stood next to you, chuckling about everyone’s reaction to Cap being from their hometown. One woman almost knocked Sam flat on his ass when she hugged him, a huge smile stretched over her face. You went back to the table Sarah was at, taking a seat next to her. Suddenly Bucky climbed on top of the table, holding his vibranium arm out with two children dangling off it. He was talking animatedly with his other as he told a story about Sam. You had zoned out just staring at him with the kids.
“You know, this could be you.” Sarah said as she leaned next to your ear.
“What could be?” You made a face at her.
“The kids, the community.” She looked over at Bucky, “That hunk of a man over there.” You slapped her shoulder softly before humming.
“I’ve thought about it, but that’s a two person decision and I don’t think either of us are at a point in our lives to raise another tiny human.” Sarah nodded, her features disbelieving.
“Just don’t let that one get away.” Her finger was pointed at Bucky who was playing with the kids at the edge of the dock. Bucky must’ve felt your gaze on him because he looked up, removing his dark sunglasses to lock eyes with you.
“Oh I don’t plan on it.” You smiled at her. You joined Bucky and Sam as they stood in front of Paul & Darlene, taking in the sunset reflecting on the water. Bucky wrapped his arm around your waist, pressing a kiss to your temple. You definitely don’t plan on it, you thought to yourself as you leaned into his embrace.

pumpkin peanut brittle for all your F/Os! since it can apply to all of them I think? :D (n maybe strawberry pound cake if you wanna vent a lil LOL)
This is going to be so long… rip to anyone who reads it all (no but seriously thank you sm for asking!!)
pumpkin peanut brittle: if your f/o is from a TV series/game series, what is your favorite episode/game? if your f/o is from a film/stageplay/etc., what is your favorite scene? why?
Charles: My favorite scene with Charles is definitely the training montage in First Class where he’s helping the students learn to control their powers. You can really see how much he cares and how much he believes in them and it’s really sweet :’)
Harry: This is very similar to the one I just talked about with Charles, but I love the scenes in Order of the Phoenix where he’s teaching Dumbledore’s Army. You can really see how much he wants everyone to succeed :’) Also the scenes in Half-Blood Prince after he takes the Felix Felicis, because he’s so freaking cute and it’s a side of him we don’t get to see often
Frodo: I love pretty much all of his scenes, but I guess my favorites would be the ones at the beginning of The Fellowship of the Ring, where he’s talking to Gandalf and enjoying Bilbo’s party (because he’s carefree and happy and we don’t get to see him like that once he gets the ring 🥲)
Luke: I like the scenes in Empire Strikes Back where he’s training with Yoda on Dagobah. Because it provides a lot of insight into his character, no other reason *sweats nervously as I think about how good he looked in the outfit*
Merlin: Season 1 episode 10, The Moment of Truth. I think it’s really sweet how he goes back to his old village to help the people. Plus it provides some insight into what his life was like before he came to Camelot. And I love seeing him interact with his mom :’)
Q: He isn’t in many scenes to begin with, so can I say they’re all my favorite? 😉 If I had to pick, I guess I’d say the scene in Skyfall where he first meets Bond because I love their banter.
Sherlock: Season 1 episode 1, A Study in Pink. It’s a classic, and as soon as I watched it I was like “…well shit. I’m in love with this bastard.” I love the case, I love his snarky one-liners, and I love watching him become friends with John.
The Doctor: It’s so hard to pick just one episode, but I think I’ll say season 4 episode 10, Midnight. I like it because it focuses entirely on him and not his companions, and it’s fun to watch him have to take charge of the situation without help from anyone else. And it’s just a really cool (and creepy!) episode overall.
Steve: He has so many good scenes; I can’t pick just one! He’s in a lot of movies so I’ll pick a movie instead. 😉 And that movie would be The Winter Soldier! It’s my absolute favorite Steve movie because we get to see him adjusting to the modern world and learn more about his relationship with Bucky. I also love his interactions with Natasha and Sam. (And there are no unnecessary love interests, lol)
Sam: There are a lot of Supernatural episodes I like (…and a lot I don’t, lmao), but my favorite Sam episode is season 3 episode 3, Bad Day at Black Rock. He’s so freaking cute when things keep going wrong for him because of the bad luck curse. Absolute baby 🥺💕
Matt: Season 4 episode 2, Reunion, because it’s pretty much the only episode that focuses heavily on him and goes into detail about his life. I love learning about his relationship with Pidge and seeing them reunite :’)
Jaskier: Season 1 episode 2, Four Marks, because it’s the first time we meet him and that’s when I fell instantly in love with him. The fact that he’s introduced singing a song about someone getting an abortion… what an entrance lmao. I also love how he basically annoys Geralt into being his friend 🤣
Tommy: Hands down the scene where he defends Gibson when all the other soldiers are trying to kick him off the boat. It shows that he cares about doing the right thing even in horrible circumstances that reduce other men to only caring about their own survival.
Stefan: Idk if Bandersnatch counts as a movie or a game, lol. But none of the endings are my favorite because none of them are happy for him 😠 I guess my favorite scenes are the ones at the beginning where he’s explaining his ideas for the game, because he sounds happy and hopeful instead of stressed and depressed 🥲
strawberry pound cake: what's an overdone take/opinion that you see about your f/o? do you agree with it?
I’ll just answer this one for Steve, since this post is already so long lol. But one thing I see a lot of on TikTok is people making jokes that he would be racist and/or sexist because he’s from the 1940s. 🙄🙄🙄 It’s not at all funny and certainly not true; there’s plenty of evidence throughout the movies that he’s neither of those things and never was. He’s the sweetest person ever and I get so mad when I see people suggesting otherwise, even if it is just a joke.

The Winter Ghost - Part 13
Info: A Devastating car crash causes you to lose your memory and start over. The only thing left in the wreckage was the horrific nightmares which plagued your mind. If you knew what today would entail you would have just stayed in bed. But you didn’t and because of that, everything you knew was about to change.
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x reader
Warnings: Swearing, angst, some smutty thoughts...
w/c: 2.2k
A/N: Lucky number 13! I’m honestly so caught off gaurd by all the love Ive been receiving on The Winter Ghost. I see all your late night binge sessions and I am SO immensely greatful for your interest. When I first started writing this I didnt really think anything of it, but youve all lit a fire under my ass and for that, I thank you! So please, enjoy and reblog and like if you feel so inclined.
Tumblr media
His hot breath fanned across your face, sending you into a frenzy like state you had never known before. Heavy breathing, mostly on your part as he placed excruciatingly slow kisses across your jaw. You needed him. More than you’d ever needed anything in your life. It made you sick.
“Are you afraid?” He asked in a low seductive voice. Swiftly he wrapped his metal fingers around your throat, applying enough pressure to make you gasp. You clawed at his chest, drunk on his murderous touch. You wanted him to make you hurt as bad as your heart did. You couldn't possibly hate a person more than you hated yourself right now.
“Answer my question.” He shouted, sending a ripple of ecstasy through your body.
“No. I could never,” You gasped, choking as the walls of your throat began to collapse.
“Liar.” He sneered.
You let out an involuntary moan.
“You good, Y/n?” Sam asked, sitting next to you on the couch as he, Nat, Wanda and Shuri all ate breakfast around the kitchen island. Your hand was lightly wrapped around your neck where Bucky’s was just a moment ago.
“Yeah, fine.” You squeeked.
But you weren't. You hadn’t been since that morning in the hallway with Bucky. You could still feel the sting he had left behind from his touch. What was wrong with you? You couldn't even begin to unpack that question. Psychiatric help would be a start, though.
After your memory had returned, the nightmares seemed to subside, only to be replaced with the image of Bucky, devoid of all emotion, seething in rage at your quips. By the third night, you would have gladly have traded, knowing that this was so much worse.
You couldn't keep excusing your vile thoughts as his fault. They weren't, not entirely. You were the one waking up a needy mess every morning.
“Hey.” Bucky's husky voice filled your senses causing you to stiffen at the sound. The team around you said their hello’s while you tried to refrain from gawking. You had done your very best to avoid him as much as you could, but there were only so many places to hide. Whenever you bumped into each other he would keep his head down and you would run in either direction.
“Steve’s on his way back today. He left to meet Vision and gather intel on an active Hydra base located somewhere on the border of Germany.” Wanda’s eyes lit up at the mention of the name. This must be the famous Android she's always gushing about.
“Pack up… We ship out first thing tomorrow morning.” Bucky declared, peaking your interest. It had been way too long since you had been back in the field, this was amazing. You could feel the excitement bubbling out of your chest vanish when Bucky’s eyes glanced at you.
“Y/n, you can uh, keep Shuri company while we're away.” You blinked at him, unsure if you had heard him correctly.
“No fucking way.” You scoffed. You were not missing out on this opportunity to give Hydra a taste of their own ‘serum’, so to speak.
‘Captain's orders.” He deadpanned, averting his gaze to the ceiling. You stared at him, lost for words with needy eyes. He’d never tell you, but it terrified him when you looked like that. Small, fragile, though he knew better. He would kill himself before he tainted you. But that didn't make the idea any less intriguing.
“And since when do you listen to Captain's orders?” Nat spoke up before you even got the chance. You nodded violently, looking back to Bucky who only sighed.
“You know very well why she can't go.” He muttered, fighting tooth and nail not to look at you again. You could sense his uncomfortability but you couldn't look away.
“She’s not going, then I’m not going.” Wanda sulked.
“Me too.” Sam mocked her tone. “Seriously, Buck. She’s a tank, we could use her.” He finished, more serious this time.
Bucky huffed, pinching the bridge of his nose between his flesh fingers. “You gotta take that up with Steve. He and I aren't really on the best of terms right now.” He spoke, annoyance dripping from the last sentence.
“Easy, I’ll take care of it.” Nat said to Bucky, but she sent a wink at you.
You were so excited you almost leaped from your seat. You couldn't wait to blow some shit up!
……………………………………….
The next morning you woke up extra early, just to get a jump on everything. Nat had fought with Steve all last night, but eventually he conceded on the sheer fact that if you were there, it would mean double the Wanda power. This was a big base, one he had known of for quite some time now, but it required extra attention. They had been working on recreating your serum, but so far to no avail. You knew exactly where they were going wrong of course. But Steve explained they had been testing it out of Hydra members. The lucky few who survived may not have your powers, but they were still strong. He’d need all the help he could get.
After you were packed you dragged your duffle to Shuri’s lab. She had been working on a few new weapons she wanted you to pack. Just in case, she said. You got there in no time flat, literally vibrating with excitement.
“You're sure about this?” She asked.
“Absolutely.” You beamed. She signed, and handed you a small ring.
“What's this?” You asked, holding the small band in your fingers.
“It’s a beacon. It will help you hold onto your borrowed energies for longer. It’s like a mini you, only better.” She paused, “Speaking of, are you going to tell me what's in that serum of yours or am I just going to have to keep guessing?”
“I think it’s better kept unsaid. That thing had already caused enough problems. No one should be burdened with it.”
“Maybe so.” She signed.
“Thank you Shuri. For everything.” You half heartedly smiled but before you could leave her arms were around you, pulling you into a hug. You sucked in a breath and tapped her on the back in reciprocation. Physically affection was never something you were good at showing, try as you may.
When you finally pulled away she sent you a soft smile, and wished you good luck on the mission before you headed out the door.
……………………..
“Nice of you to grace us with your presence.” Steve muttered, when you finally got to the jet when the rest of the team was loading up.
“It is, isn't it?” You spoke sweetly, throwing your duffle onto the jet. You still weren't really sure where you stood with Steve. Of course you knew of the famous Captain America, even if you didn't remember a few weeks ago. But never did you imagine he would be such a class act dick. Or maybe he was just that way with you? The idea made you smirk, knowing you were the only one to really piss off the Captain was honestly the highest form of flattery.
You boarded the jet and noticed the rest if the team already suited up. The tactical gear Shuri had made you was tight, and Natasha was living proof of that. I mean, it wasn't fair she had the body of a trained ballerina and New York supermodel. The woman was easily the most beautiful woman you had ever seen while your gear clung to you in all the least flattering ways.
You quickly shook off the self doubt. It didn't matter how you looked, you were here to kick some ass.
Well, not exactly.
That morning Steve had announced that while the rest of the team ‘kicked ass’ you and the Soviet spy would sneak into their mainframe and collect the data of whatever new evil scheme Hydra was working on.
Though you weren't thrilled to be stuck on recon duty, it was better than nothing. Besides, you were just a little rusty. Though Nat and Sam kept you busy and Wanda had taught you all her tricks, you weren't sure that if it came down to it you'd be able to pull the trigger.
Better safe than sorry.
“Are you nervous?” Bucky spoke under his breath, his voice deep and rough. You shivered at the sound. You hadn't realised until this moment that he was seated directly behind you.
“Are you?” You asked. You tried to add some bite to your words, but they left your lips softly. The tone seemed to surprise Bucky as much as it did you as he half expected to to tear his head off again.
“Sometimes. But, not now.”
“Oh yeah?” Words betraying you once again.
Ignore him.
Stop talking to him.
Stop. Talking.
Bucky's tongue slipped from between his lips, tugging on his bottom one slowly and effectively knocking you back from your annoying thought and to the glorious man sitting behind you.
“Yeah. Got this new girl on our side. She’s a totally badass. I know she’ll watch my six.” He shrugged causing a small smile to pull at the corner of your mouth.
“How do you know she won't just leave you for dead?” She asked, playing along. Part of you, however, was just a little curious. Part of you wanted to ask yourself the same question. In a second, would you protect the man who murdered Tommy? Honestly you weren't really sure.
“Just a feeling.” He spoke so casually. So sure, you wanted to believe him. It would be easy enough to feed him to Hydra, but you and him both knew you wouldn't have the stomach for it.
“Huh. You sound pretty confident in that.” You sneered sarcastically.
He just gave you a small shrug, leaning back into his seat and pulling his bluetooth earbuds out of his back pocket. He offered one to you casually. Before you could protest your arm shot out and took it, placing it in your right ear.
“I like to listen to music before a mission. It calms me.” He suggested, opening his phone, scrolling through his songs before the intro to Highway to Hell began playing.
A grin spread across your face “I love this song!” You beamed.
“I know. I remember you telling me something about spending an entire year listening to AC/DC cause’ your dad loved their music. I downloaded a few of their albums after that. Not exactly what I’m used to, but definitely good ass kicking music.” He nodded.
That stopped you dead in your tracks. You couldn't help the smile that faded quickly from your lips at his words. You were, to say the least, shocked. You must have mentioned your love for the band at some point, but honestly couldn't for the life of you remember when.
But he did. And he listened to it because you liked them.
“Huh.” You repeated, turning back around and trying to suppress the butterflies that began erupting out of your stomach. You could hear Bucky behind you drumming his hands on his thighs along to the song. You couldn't help but giggle at how offbeat he was.
“Take off in five minutes. Everyone ready?” Nat spoke through your coms. Everyone gave a thumb up as the jets engine whirled on, vibrating through the aircraft.
You listened carefully as your song faded away and the next one took its place.
Do I wanna know? If this feeling flows both ways?
You could physically feel Bucky’s mood shift behind you. The Super Soldier serum granting you access to his quickened heart beat and the lyrics mirrored the every present emotions you had been feeling this week.
Sad to see you go. Was sorta’ hopin’ that you’d stay.
You let your mind wander as you listened to Bucky hum along quietly to the song, low and soft. The sound sending chills down your spine as the memory of your dreams from the past few nights replayed over in your mind.
Baby, we both know. That the nights were mainly made For sayin' things that you can't say tomorrow day.
Bucky’s lips trailed along your swollen throat, the feeling of pleasure over bruises he had left behind caused you to moan in ecstasy. The way he kissed you, not like before. This time full of lust and something dark. His hands dipped under your shirt, the feeling of hot and cold sending you over the edge as your eyes rolled back in your head. You wanted nothing more than for him to throw you against a wall, any wall and tear you limb from limb.
“I like this song too.” Bucky’s breath fanned across the back of your ear, rocketing you back to the Jet that was beginning to take off. You looked around the small space, praying that Bucky was the only one to notice your breath hitch in the back of your throat.
Any reminisce of the idea that you had to stay away from Bucky shattered into a million pieces. The hate, still ever present, but you knew damn well that would be the best part. It only fueled your desire. He was going to be the death of you.
Or even better, you'd be the death of him...

Through The Years pt. 6 (Bucky Barnes x Stark! fem! reader)
tags: @a-girl-who-loves-disney @the-romanian-is-bae
A/N: feedback is appreciated! And OH MAN- is it sad. It’s a long chapter. And guys, we’re nearly done with the first avenger, moving on to The Avengers after this! Also, I’ve decided to update this every weekend. no specific date, but if i can, it will be updated from Friday-Sunday. :)
Summary: After rescuing Bucky, Y/N and the 107th from the Hydra facility in Austria; Steve Rogers begins work to assemble to Howling Commandos; an elite task force of top-ranking soldiers that are able to do what regular soldiers never could.
~~~~~~
 DECEMBER 12, 1944
LONDON, ENGLAND
You walked into the cozy, crowded London pub with your hair done up nice, and that sky blue dress you loved. Why Steve called you here to meet, you’ll never know.
Eyes scanning the area, you spotted Steve and a couple of other men sitting around a table with drinks. Steve looked up and saw you, ushering you over to the table. Everyone else went silent.
“Gentlemen, this is Y/N Stark. She’ll be joining us this evening.”
You sat done as of the men, with a darker complexion said “The Lieutenant General? What are you doing? Assembling an elite task force?”
Giving a curt nod, “That’s exactly what I’m doing, Gabe. Now please settle down.”
Steve passed you a beer and started explaining. “An elite task force, of sorts. To be able to do what regular soldiers never could.”
After almost an hour of explaining, you put a hand up. “Steve, this is an excellent idea. If we didn’t almost die last time! You really want us to go back?”
Agreements were heard around the table. “What the Stark over here said!” exclaimed Dum Dum Dougan as he clinked his glass with yours.
“Well- it sounds fun actually. I’m in.” Falsworth said.
Two of the other men agreed, and Steve looks at you. “Y/N, you in?”
Sighing, you said “I’m in. This better work, Captain.”
“You have my word, Lieutenant General. What about you, Dougan?”
“Well- I’m in. But as long as you open a tab, Captain.” Said Dougan, chugging the last of his beer.
“Of course. Y/N, help me out?” Steve asked.
“Let’s go.”
You both gathered all the mugs on the table and walked into the bar in the next room. “Buck! What’re ya doin’ here?” you said, walking over to sit next to him in surprise. He finished the last of what looked like scotch. You grabbed both of his hands in your own “I thought you had sniper training for another week!”
He scratched the back of his head nervously, but then intertwined his hand with your own. “They let me off early, doll. Christmas is up soon, after all. I wanted to see my best girl.”
“You make me blush too much.” you settled into your seat and waved the bar tender for a drink.
“So- are you two ready to follow Captain America to the jaws of death?” Steve said, sitting on your other side.
“Hell no. That little guy from Brooklyn who was never afraid to back down from a fight. I’m following him.” Bucky said, throwing an arm around your waist.
“As for myself, I’m following that boy I met in the lab one day who wasn’t afraid. The little guy who was willing to trust me and brother with his life even though he had only heard about us through a radio. That’s a hero. I’m following him.” you said.
The bar went completely silent, and the three of you turned your head to see the source.
“Peggy! My goodness you look radiant!” you said, grabbing her hands.
“That’s all you, Y/N. She said, pecking both your cheeks and turning to Steve.
“Captain.”
“Agent Carter.” Steve said, obviously nervous at the sight of her.
“Ma’am.” Bucky said in greeting.
Peggy glances at you and then at Steve again. “The Starks have new equipment for you to try, tomorrow morning. 0800 hours. Don’t be late.”
She then turned around and walked out. “It’s like I’m invisible, Steve.”
“Relax, Buck. Maybe she has a friend.”
“Rogers! I am the friend!” you said, feigning offense.
“And for that-” Bucky said, wrapping both his arms around you from behind. “I am the luckiest man in the world. Fancy a dance?”
“You know I do.”
~~~~~~
THE NEXT DAY.
“Me, Rogers, I concentrate on work, not fondue-ing. You’ll never know what goes on inside a woman’s head as long as you say that. But right now work consists of making sure my sister’s soldiers don’t get killed.” Howard said, leading Steve to a table.
“Good morning Steve!” you said, slapping him straight across the face.
“What was that for?” Steve said, nursing his cheek with his hands. “That’s for hurting Peggy. I know what you did.”
“She doesn’t even-”
“Not another word from you. I keep you around because my brother likes a soldier like you.”
“Like I said, Rogers, you never know what goes on inside a woman’s head. Especially my sisters.” Howard said.
“That’s enough, you. Anyway, Steve, this is carbon polymer. It should withstand your average German Bayonet-”
“Because HYDRA’s not going to attack you with a pocket knife.” Howard said, guiding Steve around the table. You followed close behind.
“Anyway- Steve. I saw you’re quite fond of  that play shield of yours. The prop right?” you said.
“These, Rogers are prototypes. We’ve made each and every one, in any way deemed possible from Stark technology.
Steve looks over all the shields, then points at one on the bottom. “What about this one?”
“A failed one.” Howard said, stuffing his hands in his pockets. “Made of the same stuff my sister’s armor is.”
“Starks, are you almost done?” said Peggy, strutting in.
Steve then proceeds to smile at her, as if to ask if she approves of the shield. She then proceeds to pick up a gun and shoot three times at it. It startles the entire lab.
“I like it.”
You put a hand on Steve’s shoulder as she walks out. “She really is pissed, huh?”
“Yeah.”
“I had some ideas about the uniform?” he hands you both a piece of paper.
“Whatever you want.”
~~~~~~
JANUARY 30TH, 1944
BELGRADE, SERBIA
You used your powers to crack open the doors, and the Howling Commandos shot up the place, shooting HYDRA officials left and right. Dougan put a bomb on the power plant, set the timer, and you all ran out.
As you boarded the truck and left, the base exploded, and the rest of the Howlies cheered. “That’s another one down, boys! Where are we off to next?” you said, slinging your gun back on your shoulder and putting your swords back in their holders.
“Kharkiv, in Ukraine.”
“Let’s go!”
~~~~~~
APRIL 24, 1944
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY
“Welcome back to Channel 2, your news on the radio. Captain America and his team of - er- Howling Commandos? Captain America and his elite soldier task force, The Howling Commandos have invaded the Russian HYDRA base. It’s the 14th base they’ve taken down this year, and at this speed, they’ll secure a victory for the allies.”
“This team consists of a rag-tag gang of hopeful soldiers, including Stark Industries co-founder, Y/N Stark, making her the first woman to serve in the Army of this great nation!”
~~~~~~
THE ENGLISH CHANNEL.
JULY 16, 1944. 3:00 AM.
It was a quiet and cold night as the boat creaked and made it’s way up the channel. After taking down another HYDRA base in Milan, The Howling Commandos crossed France, and made their departure from Brussels, Belgium and where now headed for another HYDRA base in Oslo, Norway, before returning to London for a rest.
Sitting in your bed, in the bunk you shared with Pinky, who was snoring away, while you couldn’t catch a wink of sleep. Turning on the tiny oil lamp, you pulled out a piece of paper and a pen. You were long overdue to write a letter to Howard.
Howard,
Hello Brother! Today is the 16th of July, 1944. It’s currently 3 am and we’re on the English Channel. We haven’t been able to catch a break. The Milan base was something else. But we got to rest up for a few days in Czechoslovakia, although we couldn’t stay long; Nazi territory. But me and Bucky where able to take a few pictures together, with Jim’s camera. They’re enclosed. I can’t detail much about where we’re headed next; but I can tell you this is not how I imagined traveling the world, with me being on the Axis Powers’ wanted list. Guess we’ll have to do it all again when it’s over. Have you received any letters from Maria? I can’t believe you haven’t introduced her to me yet. I can’t wait to meet her.
The Better Stark, Y/N.
Carefully putting the letter inside the envelope, you would give it to the captain in the morning to mail it. Wrapping a silk robe around your nightgown, you made your way to the main deck. It was nights like these that made you hopeful of a world without war. Taking a deep breath and staring out at the water, you heard a creak behind you, slowly turning around-
“Hiya there, darlin’ ” Bucky said, wringing his hands together. He looked nervous.
Giving him a smile, you wrapped your arms around him and brought your lips to his, giving him a peck. “What’re you doin’ awake, Buck?”
“s’ couldn’t sleep. Heard you got up. Thought I’d keep you company.” he said, bringing you to rest on his chest.
“The stars look beautiful tonight.”
“You know who else looks beautiful tonight, doll? you.”
“Buck, I-”
“I want to watch the stars with you forever.” he clenched is jaw. He was practically shaking.
There was a silence, with the exception of the waves crashing against the boat.
“Marry me.”
“Bucky, what?”
“You heard me correctly. Marry me, won’t you?”
“I- but my brother. And there’s a war- elopement?”
“No buts. I asked permission via a letter. Should’ve seen him. And I checked with that Captain of yours Tommy Andrews, was it? He has a license. We could get married the second we get back to London.”
“Let’s - Let’s do it. I love you so much, Buck.”
“Yeah? Ready to become Mrs. Stark-Barnes?”
“Born Ready.”
He kisses you deeply, wrapping his arms around you and stroking your hair when you separated. He was the luckiest man on earth.
~~~~~~
CHRISTMAS EVE 1944.
LONDON, ENGLAND.
It felt to so good to be back in London. It was truly a second home at this point. It had been a few months since getting engaged, and a few weeks since your last HYDRA base explosion in Hungary.
Bucky had given you his mother’s ring, a plain gold band. But you loved it nonetheless. It symbolized the relationship you had built over the past year, and the love you would share as husband and wife.
Howard hadn’t been thrilled, but didn’t let it show for your sake. Which brings you to where you are now, At Peggy’s townhouse in London, celebrating Christmas Eve with the fellow Howlies, Howard, General Philips, and Tommy Andrews, all sitting around the dining table.
“So- you two got engaged. Kept it a secret for months- and pretended it would be okay to tell us a week ago?” Dum Dum Dugan said, wiping his mouth after chugging his beer.
“I know right- they are really the most rude.” Howard said, sitting back with a smirk, sipping his wine.
“Howard, leave the kids alone. When’s the wedding?” General Phillips asked.
“Well we were- we really have no idea. There’s not very many venues open.”
Tommy interrupted “I could do it.”
There was silence around the table. “I’m licensed. In 40 states, actually.”
Peggy smiled at this. “A Christmas wedding!”
“We’re all here! It could happen.”
“Hear, Hear!”
Before you knew it, Tommy had grabbed a bible and everyone had been sitting around you and Bucky, watching you.
“Repeat after me. I take you, James Buchanan Barnes as my loving husband, in sickness and in health, as long as we both shall live.”
“I take you, James Buchanan Barnes, as my loving husband, in sickness and in health, as long as we both shall live.”
“I now pronounce you- husband and wife. You may kiss the bri- or you could do that too.”
Bucky was kissing you deeply, with hand at the back of your head and one around your waist, spinning you around.
“Alright, Alright. Break it up. Welcome to the family, Barnes.” Howard said, shaking his hand.
Yeah. A Christmas to remember.
~~~~~~
FEBRUARY 1ST, 1945.
THE SWISS ALPS.
It had been almost two months since you had married Bucky on that warm Christmas Eve in London. Ever since then, the smell of hope in the air had followed you into the new year.
The Allies were closing in. It would only be a few more months before the war was over, or so Winston Churchill had said over the radio. Now, you were on one of the last missions with the Howlies. It really wasn’t the last mission, but you could feel it in the air. All the war and destruction was finally going to come to an end.
“This won’t be like Coney Island, right? Where you made me ride the cyclone and I got sick?” Bucky asked, gripping our hand.
“You did that, Steve?”
“I did, Y/N. And why would I do that now?”
“We were right, Steve. Zola’s on the train.” Gabe said, leaning closer to the radio to hear the transmission. “We’re in the right place. HYDRA’s given him permission to open the throttle. Wherever he’s going, they must need him badly.”
“We must get going. They’re moving like the devil.”
“Well. We’ve only got a ten second window! You miss that window, we’re bugs on a windshield.” Steve said, putting his hook on the zip-line.
First was Steve, the, Bucky, then you, followed by Gabe.
Quickly, the four of you had moved across the top of the train and gotten inside. You were shooting up the HYDRA soldiers, but they just always did seem to be one step ahead of you.
You had successfully dodged several bullets, until a hole was blown into the middle of the train. It had pulled you and Bucky out, hanging by a single metal bar.
“Bucky! Y/N! Hang on! I’m coming to get you!” Steve yelled.
You tried to use your powers to move the bar up, but it didn’t seem to work, and it hurt your head immensely, causing you to scream.
“Stevie! Stevie. Take her first. Please. If anyone makes it out of here, its gonna be her.”
“Bucky, no! Hang on, please!” you said, through sobs.
“We’re going to be okay! Steve, grab her arm.”
Steve was able to pull you to the train safely. Now the situation was getting Bucky in.
“Bucky, grab my hand!”
Bucky reached out to Steve, but what he didn’t realize was that this was putting to much weight on the bar.
You’ll never forget his screams as he fell down. It would haunt you as long as you lived.
“NO! BUCKY! COME BACK!”
You could hear Steve crying before eventually helping him on the train. He collapsed into your arms, both crying.
James Buchanan Barnes; soldier, friend and husband was gone.
Spirit Bound
Chapter 3
Summary: You stand among the other Mortal Kombat contestants and witness two matches against the one and only Johnny Cage, the struggling Hollywood action movie star who wants his fame back.
Pairing: Mortal Kombat x reader; Bucky x reader (later)
Warning: Swearing,
Character Powers: Telepathy and telekinesis
A/N: Gifs used down below. I love this outfit from League of Legends-Akali, so I used it for Reader’s kombat outfit.
Tumblr media
Moments later…
You, Lui Kang, and Raiden stood together amongst the other participants. Shang Tsung walks out with Jade and Kitana following behind.
“Kombatants. I am Shang Tsung. In the coming days each of you will fight. Some are here of their own volition. Others were brought here by chance.” He extended his arms.
You look among the other participants and notice the three Lin Kuei members. You remember your mother once telling you, you had two half-brother’s in the Lin Kuei. The one noticeably dressed in blue caught you staring, his eyes scan over you. You turn away as your attention is brought back to Shang Tsung.
“You participate in the most important mortal kombat in history. This tournament, the tenth after nine Outworld victories will determine Earthrealms fate. If you defeat all of your opponents, you will face one final challenge. Me.”
You can hear Johnny Cage mock Shang Tsung, “That old geezer is the final challenge. They might as well give me the belt right now. They do have belts right.”
Shang Tsung clears his throat and Johnny is surprised to see him standing beside him.
“What? How did you…”
“Appearances can be deceiving.” Shang Tsung floats back to his stage. “Our first Kombatant will be Mr. Cage.”
“Yeah.” Johnny steps onto the floor, he’s fully ready to take on anyone. He wants to prove to skeptical movie critics and the public that he is not a fake. “That’s right. That’s right. Who’s it gonna be?”
“Reptile.” Shang Tsung calls for Johnny’s opponent.
From atop the roof, a green hideous humanoid reptilian creature appears and jumps onto the floor. The monks clap as he does so.
“Nice stunt.” Johnny speaks with awe.
“Begin.” Shang Tsung orders.
Both Johnny and Reptile battle each other for a good 15 minutes. You’re impressed that Johnny is able to hold his own. Johnny lands one last blow and knocks Reptile down on his back.
“He got caged.” Johnny stands over Reptile and smiles. “That’s it. Oh yeah. I’m so pretty.” Johnny walks up to the other competitors and with confidence he says, “I’m taking you down. I’m taking you down. I’m taking you out. I’m taking you out and I’m taking you out…for dinner.”
Sonya scoffs with disgust and looks away. You can’t help but find it a bit humorous. After all, he was her soulmate.
You chance another glance at Sub-Zero and find one of his companions whispering into his ear. He nods but his eyes don’t move from you.
“Now, for your second challenge Mr. Cage.” Shang Tsung speaks from his spot. “Baraka!”
You look up to see a fucking ugly monster with razor-sharp teeth that no doubt could do some major damage. Baraka lets out a monstrous roar and jumps onto the floor.
Johnny nods his head, “Hmm okay, nice makeup but is it really necessary.”
Baraka unsheathes his retractable metal blades from his forearm.
“Woah.” Johnny leans forward to get a better glimpse at the blades.
“They will taste your flesh.” Baraka threatens.
While the two battle each other, you lean over to Lui Kang and whisper, “What the fuck is that thing?”
“Baraka is a Tarkatan. He and his people are mutant crossbreeds of Netherrealm demons and Outworlders. They are notorious cannibals and are feared for their barbarous nature.” Lui Kang whispers back, he immediately notices Sub-zero’s eyes on you. He becomes a bit defensive and stands closer to you. He narrows his eyes almost threatening.
“Oh, okay so best to steer clear of that one then.”
“Yes, in fact it’s best to steer clear of most of these competitors. Some are known to be very dangerous.”
You smirk and tilt your head to look into his eyes, “You talking about the blue Lin Kuei over there?”
He nods, “Yes, he hasn’t taken his eyes off of you. I’m just concerned.”
“Oh, I know he hasn’t. His name is Bi-Han and he is my half-brother.”
Lui Kang is shocked, “He is?”
You nod while you look back to the fight between Baraka and Johnny. “Lord Raiden knows. Don’t you?”
“Yes. Your mother was once married to sub-zero’s father, together they had two children. Bi-Han and his younger brother Kuai Liang.” Raiden’s eyes remained locked on the fight.
“What happened?” Lui Kang asked curiously.
“He took her sons away and had them join the Lin Kuei.” You reply with resentment.
Before Lui Kang could ask more questions, the fight between Johnny and Baraka finished with Johnny taking the win.
“Man I love those blades.” Johnny speaks with awe, he bends over to look at Baraka. “My producer has got to meet you. We’re doing Tommy scissor fists…”
“Congratulations, Mr. Cage. Now finish him.” Shang Tsung interrupts and orders Johnny to kill Baraka.
“Finish him? Yeah right.”
“Kill him!” Shang Tsung orders.
Johnny looks among the other competitors and find that they don’t have a problem with killing. In fact, they are just waiting for him to get it done with.
“Woah. Woah. Wait a second. I’m not gonna kill anyone.”
You and Lui Kang smile, then look over at Raiden, who also holds a smile on his face as it wasn’t known to spare your enemies during Mortal Kombat tournament. Despite being an egotistical asshole, Johnny wasn’t that bad.
“Very well, the tournament will resume at dawn.” Shang Tsung announces and turns to leave.
The monks rise from their positions and turn to leave as well.
“What that’s it? Really?” Johnny shrugs and turns around to find Sonya. “Now, where did that hottie go?”
The three of you approach Johnny, before he can take off to find Sonya and flirt some more with her. She’ll probably kick his ass in the process.
You look around to find where Bi-Han went. Since you were a child you had always been curious to know what your other half-brothers were like. You didn’t exactly search for them in the future, but since he was there you just found yourself curious. If things went smoothly here, then maybe when you get back you can seek out your two brother’s.
“You fought well.” Raiden tells Johnny.
“Thanks, nice hat and...” Johnny lowers his sunglasses to get a glimpse of you. He practically ogles upon seeing you dress in your green outfit. It fit you in all the right places and showed off your nice toned legs. “…nice outfit babe.”
“You should be more respectful of Lord Raiden and Lady Y/N. Raiden is Earthrealms protector and God of Thunder…”
“Look, I don’t know what kind of role playing you guys are into, but count me out.” Johnny interrupts Lui Kang as his eyes search for the blonde.
“This tournament is more than a chance at personal glory, we are fighting for the very survival of Earthrealm.”
“What are you talking about?” Johnny looks over Lui Kang’s shoulder and sees you slowly walking off. He sees the way your hips sway and he has to stop himself from looking. He had his eyes on Sonya, but there was no denying that you were hot.
“You’re last opponent was Tarkatan, he was born with those blades.” Raiden tries to explain.
“Yeah, those things are real.” Johnny looks over his shoulder to see an unconscious Baraka being hauled away.
“He represents Outworld, had you lost the emperor Shao Kahn would have come one step closer to physically absorbing our world into his.”
“Outworld, right.” Johnny shakes his head not believing either of them.
“The elder gods created the Mortal Kombat tournament, to give Earthrealm a chance to defend itself. But if we lose this time Shao Kahn will conqueror all.”
“Dun Dun Dun. Look guys I’m an actor. I save the world for the cameras. If this emperor is really a threat call the military. Me. I’ve got a date with a blonde.” Johnny walks off to go in search for his soulmate Sonya.
“What do you see in him?” Lui Kang asks Raiden as he looks behind to see you were gone.
“He is a hero, Lui Kang. Though he may not know it.”
“She’s gone! Where do you think she ran off too?” Lui Kang searched among the people trying to find you. He hadn’t heard you leave. How long had you been gone? With a bunch of murderers and assassins he feared for your safety.
“She may be after Sub-Zero.”
Tumblr media
As soon as you part from Lui Kang and Raiden, you immediately sensed someone thoughts. The person was hidden away, you could sense he was injured. Instead of searching for Bi-Han you decide to help this person. You follow his thoughts leading to a secret part of the island, the dungeon. You carefully walk inside and find a man leaning against the cell. Slowly, you move closer towards his cell.
“Hello, Jax.” You whispered, placing you hand on the cell bar.
He looked up, “How? How do you know my name?”
“I’m telepathic. I’m here to help.” You examine the cell trying to assess its weak points.
“Run, girl, run…save yourself.” He grunted in pain, his head leaning against the bars.
“Yeah, I don’t run.” You whirl around the moment you hear Sonya’s voice coming from across the dungeon. She was not at all being quite. You could hear the sound of her boots scrapping against the ground.
“Jax! Jax! You in here?” Sonya looked around the creepy dungeon and found you standing next to Jax. “Oh my god. What did they do to you?”
You sensed Shang Tsung coming with two other bodyguards. “Shit, he’s coming.”
“Who’s coming?” Sonya was confused.
“Run, Sonya. Take the girl with you. Run.”
“Miss Blade! You do not disappoint! I have been expecting you.” Shang Tsung continues to walk closer and notices you standing there as well. His eyes widen slightly as he takes you in. His eyes travel to your eyes and all the way down to your green outfit. It’s in that moment where he decides he wanted you for himself. “Who might you be?”
Sonya stands in front of you to protect you. “Let him go! We’re not part of your tournament!”
“On the contrary. You are very much a contestant. You will face Sub-Zero, of the Lin Kuei clan of assassins.” Shang Tsung smiles proudly and puts his hands behind his back.
You see glaciers forming into a man, ice shards break to reveal Sub-Zero. He quickly gets into his fighting stance. Sonya moves forward and takes her stance as well.
“Now you will feel death’s cold embrace.” Sub-Zero’s attention is diverted when he sees you standing beside Jax’s cell. For a moment you sense his uncertainty, but it quickly disappears.
With Sonya fighting against Sub-Zero, you take the time to telepathically call Raiden for help seeing as Sonya and Jax were going to need his help. After nearly 30 minutes, Sonya finally manages to defeat Sub-Zero.
“Done! We’re leaving!” Sonya notices Raiden appearing out of lightning, though she pays him no attention as Shang Tsung steps closer. “Stand in my way and I’ll kick you’re…”
“A challenge?” Shang Tsung smiles.
From right where you are standing you can see Raiden having a vision. You take a peek and see Lui Kang defeating Shang Tsung.  “No. You will not be the one to challenge Shang Tsung.” Raiden holds his hand out to prevent Sonya from attacking.
“You want some too? Fine by me.” Sonya attacks Raiden.
Sonya is an impressive fighter but you could clearly see Raiden was holding back, he had no intention on hurting Sonya.
“Give us some cover, Raiden. I’ll help Sonya free Jax.”  You telepathically told him.
Sonya kicks Raiden and sends him to the ground, she stalks him and is about to punch him when he speaks, “Shield your eyes.”
“What?”
“Shield your eyes.” Raiden’s eyes spark and soon the entire room is lit with a bright light.
“Jax get back.” With everyone covering their eyes, you take the opportunity to use your telekinesis to pry open the bars.
Sonya walks back over to you and Jax, she puts his arm over her shoulders. “Jax, come on! We’re outta here!”
“Bout time…Nice job kid.” You follow behind them to make sure they get out safely.
Tumblr media
Outside the dungeon, Jax struggles to move as his wounds are to grave. You decide to put his other arm around your shoulders. A big guy like him, well he was too heavy for Sonya to carry all alone.
“Come on, Jax! Move it! That’s an order.”
“Oh…so you’re in charge now?” Jax breathes heavily.
Sonya talks into her wrist com, “Special Forces Command, this is Sonya Blade! Where’s that evac?”
“Blade, they are en route…coming to you.”
You and Sonya set Jax down gently on the ground. You look around seeing a shrine and a fountain in the background.
“Affirmative! Almost home, soldier.” Sonya looks up to you. “You’re coming back with us kid. It’s not safe, here.”
You hated being called a kid. You were 20 for crying out loud. You sigh, “I can’t.”
“Why?” Jax winced as he looked at you.
“Because I was sent by the Elder Gods to help Raiden and Earthrealm warriors.”
“By order of Shang Tsung, no one leaves this island.” Kitana comes out from the shadows with Jade following beside her.
“I don’t have time for this. Outta my way.” Sonya groans and rises to her feet to face them.
You join her side and get into a fighting stance to face off against Jade. Jade wastes no time in heading towards you. She makes the mistake in underestimating you. You jump up and place both your hands on her shoulder. You flip over her shoulders and come down to a crouch, where you swipe your leg underneath hers. Jade falls on her back.
Tumblr media
She looks up in disbelief. You just laid her on her back and you really hadn’t done anything. She pulls out her bo staff and whirls it around with expertise. From the corner of her eyes, she sees Kitana struggling to hold her own against Sonya. She tries to swipe at you, only for you to dodge by performing a sideways flip.
Tumblr media
Jade looks at you completely angry that you’re taunting her. You aren’t even fighting back. She sends a flurry of punch and kicks towards you. You attempt to dodge every single one. But when she lands a punch to your face. You grit your teeth and look her in the eye. You were pissed. You were no longer going to hold back.
You throw a series of punches, uppercuts, lowercuts, and hooks. You even incorporate some kicks. Jade tries to dodge every single one of your hits but when you jump into the air and hit her with a flying punch. She is sent stumbling backwards. She looks up to see you illuminate yourself with a green telekinetic energy.
“Oh Shit.” She thought to herself.
You green energy comes out like streams as it wraps around Jade. Making her unable to move. She looks into your eyes and sees your irises are green. You perform a roundhouse kick that has been amplified by your telekinetic energy. Jade is sent backwards flying straight into Kitana.
“We sure don’t need any more surprises like them.” Sonya walked past you to get to Jax. “How you holding up?” Sonya kneels.
“I’m fine.”
“Liar. After I get you to base. I’m coming back. Kano’s still here somewhere.”
“Your obsession with him is gonna get you killed, Sonya.” Jax tilts his head, he wants his best friend to see reason. He doesn’t want her to get hurt.
“I trusted him.”
“Yeah, we all did.”
“But I was the one he used.” Her voice is filled with guilt and regret.
“I think your ride is here.” You look over your shoulder and smile.
Sonya smiles and waves her hands as she rises onto her feet. You sense something wrong. You hear Shang Tsung’s evil mind. He wants to destroy the helicopter to prevent them from leaving. But before you could use your telekinesis to shield the helicopter, Shang Tsung had used his magic to throw a fireball. The helicopter crashes down.
“No. Damn you.” Sonya looks over to see Shang Tsung smiling wickedly.
“You have a challenger. Kano.”
Kano puffs his chest out and walks towards Sonya. “Pretty boy isn’t gonna save you this time.”
Tumblr media
You move over to stand protectively in front of Jax, while Sonya dealt with Kano. Your hands glow with telekinetic energy. You need to be ready in case if Sonya was defeated. You weren’t going to let anything happen to this man. He had been through enough.
The fight between Sonya and Kano lasts for about 15 minutes with Sonya being victorious. She looms over his unconscious body, “You’re coming with me.” She takes a step towards Kano only to be stopped by fire.
“Kano is not your prisoner.” Shang Tsung diffused the flames in his hands.
“At least help Jax. He needs a medic!”
Shang Tsung laughs wickedly, he sidesteps her and walks away. Kano, Kitana, and Jade follow after him.
“There they are!” Johnny approaches with Raiden and Lui Kang. “Sonya! You all right? Hey, looks like you found him. S’up, Sarge?”
“He’s a ma… Hey, what are you doing?” Sonya notices Raiden walking towards you and Jax.
You move to the side to allow him to heal Jax. “It’s alright, Sonya. Raiden won’t hurt Jax. He merely seeks to help.”
Raiden uses powers to heal all of Jax’s wounds. Sonya is still finding it hard to believe as she tries to interfere. However, Johnny holds her by the arm and tells her Raiden is an ally.
Jax smiles, he feels like a new man. “That’s amazing.”
“Told ya! Turn out he’s a god!”
You extend your hand out to help Jax back onto his feet. Afterwards, you move to Lui Kang’s side, where you see him shake his head.
“What?”
“You left without telling us… you could have been hurt.”
You raise your brow. Did he really think that low of you? That you couldn’t fend for yourself. That you were a damsel in distress, who needed saving. You narrow your eyes and fold your arms across your chest. Turning away from him, you see Sonya thank Raiden.
“I can take care of myself, thank you.” Before you can leave, Lui Kang grabs you’re arm.
Lui Kang didn’t mean to offend you. He just sort of clung to you, he couldn’t help that he was worried for your well-being. After all, this place wasn’t safe for anyone. Also, no woman had ever made him feel the way you did and the mere thought of you being hurt by assassins and criminals. No he couldn’t bear that thought.
“Forgive me, Lady Y/N.” He spoke softly. “I did not mean to offend you.”
“The Elder Gods sent me here to help. They wouldn’t have sent me if I didn’t know how to fend for myself. You get that right.” It was the only logical explanation you could give.
Lui Kang nodded his head, “Yes, I do. I am truly sorry. Please, forgive me.”
For a few seconds you remain silent, but then you smile. “I forgive you, but you must do one thing.”
“Anything. Just ask.” Lui Kang smiled, happy that you were no longer mad at him.
“Do not call me Lady Y/n. It sounds weird. Just call me Y/n.”
“Very well, Y/N.”
Right after, you and Lui Kang walk over to the others, who have gather around Raiden.
“I have foreseen event’s, like memories of my future. They lead me to believe that you are all connected to Earthrealm’s fate.”
“What have you foreseen?” Lui Kang asks curiously.
“In my visions, Shao Kahn becomes invincible. He destroys all life in Earthrealm. We will all die.” Raiden looks over to see you looking down. “The Elder Gods have provided us with a second chance, they have sent Lady Y/N to help guide us.”
Johnny looks over, “No offense, but how can she help?”
You look up and narrow your eyes. Lui Kang takes a step back. He had made the same mistake before and immediately regretted it. Sonya’s hand go to her hips and the look on her face, says she wants to hit Johnny for offending you.
“Well, for starters she can kick your ass.” Sonya glares at Johnny.
“Yeah, like she did with those two girls back there.” Jax folded his arms, to keep himself from hitting the actor. “Say kid, what was that green glow? Never seen anything like that before.”
You smirk, “That green glow is telekinetic energy. I was born with the abilities of telepathy and telekinesis.”
Oh shit! She can read minds, fuck. Johnny thought.
You smirk, Oh I can do more than read minds. I can control and manipulate minds. I can perform neuropsychic surgery to heal or damage a mind. My telepathic ability is far too advance for a simple minded actor like yourself.
Johnny swallows and stutters, “So…uh…these visions of yours…”
“I believe these flashes are a guide to defeating Shao Kahn. But disrupting the flow of time can have serious consequences.”
You shake your head, “Or your visions could be a warning. Perhaps, the events you see have already transpired.”
 “Hmm, that may be possible.” Raiden thought this over. If that was the case then he couldn’t rely on his visions, but there was also a possibility you could be wrong.
“Then what now?” Johnny asked.
“The Elder Gods showed me the fate of the fallen Earthrealm warriors. At the end, Raiden is the last to defend Earthrealm, but he is defeated by Shao Kahn. They believe I can help change your fate and save the future of our people. But I don’t know how. All I know is we have to choose wisely.”
Lui Kang places his hand on your shoulder, he doesn’t need telepathy to see you were doubting yourself. The fate of humanity lied on your shoulders. Just like him you were burden with a glorious purpose. All will be well. The Elder Gods chose you wisely. You will help us succeed in defeating Shao Kahn.
Thank you. You’re words are comforting. You smiled.
“Alright, Raiden. We are with you and Y/N.”
darling street (five)
summary: When Bucky has an anxiety attack at a party he finds refuge in the roommate of the host party.
a/n: i know it sucks, i promise it’ll get better (oh and if you wanna be tagged just ask)
-masterlist| part one/ part two/ part three/ part four/ part five/
Tumblr media
“Class dismissed.” Bucky waves the students away as he takes a set on the floor. I don’t know how I’m doing it but somehow I’m stomaching classes with Bucky. I was gathering my things from the bench in the corner of the room.
“I can feel your eyes on me, Barnes. You see something you like?” I ask tauntingly with a chuckle slinging my bag across my shoulder. I turn around to meet his eyes, a smile stretched over his face. He opened his mouth to say something but Steve comes stumbling in “Hey Buck,” He waves, then he sees me and his demeanor changes “Tommy.” He says his voice flat. I give him a nod in return.
I felt the tension in the room shift while me and Steve have a hateful starring contest in across the room. I feel that my presence is unwanted “I’ll catch you later Barnes.” I say walking across the room.
“Wait, Tommy, how about you join me and Steve out for some food. I swear I’ll make Steve behave.” He suggested quickly getting up from his place on the floor and standing in front of me caressing my elbow with the tips of his fingers. You gaze up at him while he wears a hopeful smile. I try to hide the bashful smile on my face but do a terrible job of concealing it.
I pucker my lips together to get rid of the smile “Fine only because you’re paying.” I smirk.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way.“ Bucky responds with a smile. I used to Bucky’s flirting but he was genuinely being sweet and that’s what puzzled me. He wasn’t even this lax with Steve.
Steve clears his throat his large body taking up the doorframe. He wears a tiny smirk while he circles one in the air which causes Bucky to say “Shut up punk.” He grits out turning towards Steve. His face softens when he turns back to me “Let me give you a ride.” I nod knowing that I ran to class today.
“Tommy, can I talk to you?” Steve asks from the door. I raise my eyebrow in return “Please?”
“Fine,” I say beginning to walk over to him “Go ahead Buck I’ll meet you outside.” Bucky walks out the room throwing a glare at Steve.
“I wanted to apologize about what I said in the library, it was totally inappropriate.”
I was taken aback by his apology “I’m surprised, it only took you a week to get over yourself and apologize.” I state arms crossed and tight-lipped. I know I’m pushing it and by the look on his face, he’s becoming regretful. “I’m over it Steve it’s ok.”
I turn around to leave but he quickly grabs my arm and turns me back to him “No it wasn’t ok I was trying to pressure you to admit something that’s was going on in my head.” He says remorsefully.
“Steve all’s forgiven.” I smile up at him rubbing his arm comfortably. “Walk me?” I ask and he nods.
Steve slides his hands in his pockets and makes he way to my side in a few small steps “We do need to talk about something else though.” He sighs.
“Alright”
“‘S Bucky, he’s been acting strange. Like-like-“ he pauses and chuckles “Like he’s in love or something.”
I laugh and continue to walk down the corridor. My hand is on my belly from the laughter. Bucky in love, I couldn’t see it.
Steve laughs along with me “You just don’t see it do ya?” He asks opening the door letting the Brooklyn scenery be seen. My eyebrows knit together “You have him wrapped around your finger. As him to run and he’ll ask how far Tommy.” I stand outside the door shaking my head in disbelief “Two days ago you came to training without your hand wrap, now he keeps an extra pair just for you. He won’t even let me use them.” Steve says standing in front of the door.
My head tilts innocently to the right “I haven’t seen him like this since Natasha.” He admits.
“Who’s Natasha?” I ask with a new found inquiry.
Steve smirks at my reaction “That redhead that had the scholarship for the Red Room her sophomore year.”
My eyebrows shoot up as I let out a hum “Good to know.”
Bucky’s car pulls up beside us “Can we put the gossiping aside and please go get some food.” Bucky complains from the car.
Steve and I chuckle “I think I’ll pass today Buck, Peg is waiting on me.” Steve lies before shooting a wink at me and walking away.
I shake my head as I get into Bucky’s car “What was that about?” He asks taking the car out of park.
I smile “Nothing at all.”
_____
“So who’s Natasha?” I ask stuffing a fry into my mouth. I see Bucky visibly swallow and starts to watch the grey table in front of us. I analyze his body language and I wanna push a tad bit further but before I could his eyes snap back up to me.
He clears his throat and leans back in the booth “She is a girl I use to date.”
I rub my lips together “Why’d you stop dating?” I ask less confidently swirling my finger on the table avoiding eye contact.
“You’re so bad at getting information discreetly, I thought you took the manipulation class already?” I say nothing but I connect my eyes with his waiting for hums to stop stalling and answer my question.
He lets out a sigh “She got into the Red Room program her sophomore year. She said she would be back in a year and I believed her. Then a year turned into two, then two into three,” He finishes muttering into his pre-ordered coffee cup. I nod knowingly “But it’s fine, I’m not too hung up on her anymore.” He says trying to crack a joke but I can clearly see the hurt on his face. He changes the subject “Don’t think you can just interrogate me and not expect one back,” His mood lightens.
I straighten up “Ask away.”
“That bookshop you work at and that co-worker of yours uh- Loki is it?” He asks with a smirk.
I nod with a cheeky smile “What about him?” I ask keeping my naughty smile but innocently tilting my head.
“He stares at you a lot, I don’t like it.” He says before taking another sip of coffee, my head tilts back while I laugh
“Well, there is a lot to look at.” I say jokingly. We sit there and laugh as the night goes on.
Chapter 4: Your Heart is a Beating Drum
In which Carlos and TK struggle with the poison revelation, there is a misunderstanding leading to cracks in emotional walls and mutual softness, and Carlos meets his new security detail, Judd and Marjan.
Carlos opened his mouth, but no words came out. He found himself unable to do anything but sit there, staring, gape-mouthed, at Tommy, hands gripping the base of his chair hard enough his knuckles turned white."Are you sure?" he heard TK ask, but the words seemed muffled, making their way towards Carlos as if through water.
"It was in his goblet of wine," Nancy answered, and Carlos' head shot up, his wide-eyed gaze drawn straight to TK, whose face was drained of all color.
"You saved my life," Carlos whispered, the first words he had been able to get out since the news had so abruptly arrived. TK's eyes were immediately on Carlos, and Carlos found he could already easily read the question in TK's gaze. "The wine. I stopped drinking as soon as I saw you were uncomfortable. I only had perhaps two sips, maybe three."
"That would explain why you merely got so ill," Tommy said, nodding in agreement.
"Merely got so ill?" TK's voice was suddenly raised, his face now flushed, tone full of anger. "If he wasn't here-"
"Of course, I understand," Carlos cut in, unsuccessfully attempting to control the tremble in his voice. "I will go pack my things at once, Your Highness. My presence will no longer cause you discontent." He managed to remind his body how to bow, his voice to say, "Thank you all for your kindnesses," before quickly making his way back towards his chambers.
"Was that your goal?" Grace gently chided, and TK could merely shake his head, before sprinting  after Carlos.
"I fear that there has been a misunderstanding," TK burst out, throwing open the door to Carlos' chambers, stopping short as he was met with the sight of a bare chested Carlos, holding in one hand the tunic he had just been wearing in the kitchen, in the other hand the clothes he had arrived in.
"I fear there has not been," Carlos sighed, eyes downcast as he held the tunic out to TK, whose gaze was still frozen on the expanse of Carlos' skin. "I will not take anything I did not arrive with."
"Carlos, stop, please," TK pleaded, gently wrapping his fingers around Carlos' wrist. Carlos twisted away, pulling his own shirt on before reaching for his bag.
"I do not wish you to be harmed!" TK did not register the volume of his voice, or the tremble weaving in around his words, only that Carlos had not yet picked up his bag, that he had not yet moved for the door. "If I am discontented, it is because a villain could have killed you the prior evening!" TK's eyes were wide, and his chest was heaving, and he was almost shouting, and Carlos could not tear his own eyes away. "And I cannot have that. I will not have that."
"TK," Carlos breathed out, soft and surprised, laying his hand gently on TK's shoulder, squeezing once in reassurance. "I am not harmed."
"I know," TK murmured, rubbing his face harshly between his fingers, the air and energy seeming to deflate as he sunk onto the corner of the bed. "But you were in pain. It was mere chance that you are not..." A shudder rippled through TK's shoulders, and he shook his head, refusing to continue.
"It was your example, actually, that ensured my recovery," Carlos said with a smile, crouching down and placing a grounding hand on TK's jittering knee. "I think, TK, I shall be joining you in abstaining from wine from now on."
This startled a wry chuckle from TK, who nodded, a smile beginning to turn up the corners of his mouth again. "My name sounds much better from your lips than Your Highness. I am glad I have earned back the right."
"I am still amenable," Carlos assured him with a smile, and TK's face crinkled into a full grin, before he moved to join Carlos on the floor, sitting cross-legged with his hands clasped in his lap.
"I do not wish you to depart," TK admitted softly, staring down at his hands. "I wish you to be safe. But as this is an arrangement my parents are determined to see through, I am glad it is you by my side."
"I am glad to be by your side," Carlos assured him, reaching over and resting his hand on top of TK's. TK unlatched his own fingers and turned one hand up, interlocking his fingers through Carlos' and squeezing softly.
And then just as suddenly TK was pulling back his hand, cradling it to his chest as he stood up and walked towards the door. "You must be tired still," he said softly, staring at the door, his back to Carlos. "You should get some rest. I will make sure there is someone stationed outside your door to ensure your safety."
"Thank you," Carlos whispered to an already closed door, TK somewhere on the other side.
Carlos had completed returning all garments to their proper places and was just attempting to settle back into the bed, when a knock sounded on his door. "Yes?" Carlos called out, and a tall man with broad shoulders entered the room, a large friendly smile on his face.
"Hello there," the man said. "My name is Judd." He gestured to the woman who had moved up to stand next to him. "This is Marjan. TK has requested that we arrange protection for you given what occurred at the banquet."
"We have been instructed by TK to ignore any protests you may provide," Marjan added, her eyes sparkling mischeviously. This startled a laugh out of Carlos, who shook his head with a rueful smile.
"I am a knight," Carlos said, gesturing towards his sword, now carefully cleaned and returned to its scabbard. "I have been more than capable of protecting myself for many years now."
"We have seen you joust, we fully trust in your capabilities," Marjan promised. "We would welcome you joining our training sessions."
"But TK..." Judd trailed off, leaning back against the wall. "He has endured a lot this past year. More than his share. Finding his own way to keep you safe seems highly important to him. Which brings us here."
"Will he have enough protection still?" Carlos asked anxiously. "I am sure you already have a protocol in place, given TK must order protection such as this for all guests. I would just have assurance he will not be left unguarded."
Judd and Marjan exchanged a knowing smile before answering. "This is the first occurrance, in fact," Marjan replied, a smirk playing across her lips. "Before he has always left all security to his father. Even with Prince A-" She stopped herself short, pinching her lips together, smile falling away. "That is not a name that should ever be mentioned within these walls, or anywhere ever again if I had my say."
"I will not ask or speak of him," Carlos promised, and Marjan gave him a quick nod of respect. "I just wish, I would know more of what occurred so I could understand and help, so I could know if there is ever a chance..." Sighing, Carlos rubbed his hands over his face. "It is not my place and I will not attempt to make it so."
"We are very fond of our little prince here," Judd said with a chuckle, and Marjan snorted with laughter. Carlos raised a surprised eyebrow but found himself unable to stop himself from laughing along. "He is our family. And we have not seen him smile like this in far too long."
"Which may very well be the reason the king wishes a word with you now," Marjan said as she gestured towards the door. "He's waiting in the throne room."
The Domestic Life Of The Vision And His Witch, Chapter 16: Lost Boy
Summary:  At Tony's wedding reception, Wanda finds herself watching over Harley Keener.
Ao3 link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/18461504/chapters/47522368
The assembled guests turned, almost as one, to watch Pepper Potts begin her journey down the aisle. She looked beautiful. The dress was elegant, but nothing too over the top, true to Pepper's nature. Wearing a beaming smile as she walked down the aisle towards Tony.
As she watched her, Wanda felt a sense of.. something there seemed to be a radiance around Pepper, an extra special glow. A familiar sort of glow.. Wanda was distracted from whatever she'd been thinking by Scott Lang, a couple of rows behind her, waving cheerily at her with a goofy grin plastered on his face. Hope, sitting beside him, rolled her eyes. Wanda just chuckled and waved back, grinning when Billy cooed and waved as well, a happy smile on his little face.
"Yes, dragul meu baiat" said Wanda quietly, "There's Uncle Scott and Auntie Hope!"
Hope's minor annoyance with Scott instantly melted away at the sight of Billy's smile, and she softly smiled back. Wanda grinned, then turned around to watch Pepper take her final few steps to meet Tony at the altar. Tony's earlier nerves seemed to have completely disappeared as Pepper reached him. He was completely besotted, the goofy smile of a man very much in love.
As the guests were welcomed and the Wedding ceremony began, Wanda found that, despite their somewhat complicated past, she was genuinely happily for Tony. The past was truly in the past now. There was no reason to cling to unpleasantness any longer. Misdirected hatred was a poison she could do without.
Tommy squirmed slightly in Vision's lap, but Billy nudged his brother, as if telling him to be good. At some point, Vision reached out to hold Wanda's hand. She turned to look at him, seeing him rather entranced with the the unfolding ceremony. Then he smiled shyly at her, and knowing his plans, Wanda's heart skipped a beat. It might not be too long before it was the two of them standing at the altar. Once again, Natasha cast a suspicious in their direction, and Wanda quickly looked away, just in time to see Tony and Pepper pronounced man and wife.
A cheer rose from the crowd as Tony kissed his bride. --
Soon, while Tony and Pepper were having pictures taken, all the guests headed to the large function room next door for the reception. It didn't take Wanda, Vision, and the other Avengers long to find their table. Aside from the fact that it was the very large one near the head table where Tony and Pepper were going to sit, it was also the only table with two high chairs.
However, actually working out who was sitting where took a little longer, as Tony had apparently had some fun with their place cards.
"Who the hell is Natalie Rushman?" asked Sam, confused.
"That would be me" Nat sighed. "And he's put me next to.. Legolas. Clint, you're over here."
"Uh.. we have a seat for a 'mysterious super glowy woman'?" said Bucky.
"I'm guessing that's me" Carol raised an eyebrow, "And I'm sitting with.. Which one of you is 'Point Break'?"
"Me.." Thor raised a hand, looking annoyed.
While the others slowly worked out where they were supposed to sit, Wanda and Vision settled the twins in the high chairs and took the seats beside them, labelled 'Little Witch' and 'Robo-Son'. As the other seats at the table filled, Wanda noticed one last empty one beside her, marked with Harley Keener's name. She looked up to see the sandy-haired teen looking rather lost and a little bit confused as he searched for his seat. Wanda checked that Vision was alright with the twins for a moment, then got up to fetch the poor lost boy.
"Harley" she called as she approached him, offering her hand and a warm smile. "You are over here with us again, Draga."
"Oh" Harley blushed, but took the hand Wanda offered. "Okay, thank you. I'm a little surprised, I wasn't really expecting to sit with the important people.."
"Tony put you there for a reason. You must be special to him."
"Maybe.."
Harley's shyness touched Wanda's heart, and she made it her mission to make him more comfortable. --
"So" she asked him a little while later, after the first courses had arrived, "How do you know Tony, Harley?"
"Oh, well, a few months after the battle of New York, he kind of crashed near my house" Harley began. "I helped him, and since then we write to each other a lot, and email, and he set up this mini lab for me to work on stuff.."
"Really?" Peter piped up. "That is so cool!"
"Yeah" Harley smiled. "The first thing I built was a high tech potato gun.."
Wanda smirked, quite satisfied with herself. --
A short while later, Harley switched seats with Sam so he could sit by Peter and show off some of the gadgets he had built. However, before Sam could take the now empty seat beside Wanda, Natasha beat him to it. Sam was a little confused, but shrugged, sitting beside Clint.
"Okay, you two" said Nat to Wanda and Vision, "Spill."
"Spill what?" Vision, halfway through feeding Billy, asked, confused.
"Just an observation.. is there something you need to tell us?"
"I don't think so.." Wanda frowned.
"Oh?" Nat raised an eyebrow. "No one's asked any big questions recently?"
"No" said Vision. "Well, not yet."
"Not yet?" The Black Widow's brow crinkled. "What do you mean by that?"
"Simplu" Wanda replied. "He means not yet. We've discussed it, but, not yet.." she glanced over to the head table. Rhodey was preparing to deliver his best man speech, while Pepper was sipping a glass of orange juice. "While we're all being observant, has anyone noticed that Pepper isn't drinking?"
"Huh.." Nat's attention immediately moved to the head table. "That's strange.." --
After Rhodey delivered his speech, Tony and Pepper took to the floor for their first dance as a married couple. Soon after, Natasha offered to watch the twins so Wanda and Vision could have a dance.
"You're getting good at this, Vizh" Wanda giggled, as Vision twirled her around the floor. "Have you been practicing?"
"Not recently" Vision grinned, "But I had a wonderful dance teacher. Beautiful, and talented."
"Ooh. Should I be jealous?" Wanda teased.
"I do not think you have to be."
"Good to know."
After a few more dances, the couple were beginning to think they should head back to Tommy and Billy, when Vision felt a tap on his shoulder.
"Mind if I cut in there for a second?" came Tony's voice.
"Oh.. uh, of course.." Vision stepped aside, a little confused.
"Give me a little dance, Vision?" Pepper offered him her hand.
"If you like, Miss.. Mrs. Potts."
As Vision and Pepper danced away, Tony took Wanda's hand and laid his other hand on her waist, beginning to move around the dance floor with her.
"Miss Maximoff, you are looking especially lovely Today."
"And you are looking quite handsome, Mr. Stark" Wanda raised an eyebrow, puzzled. "But why.."
"We're friends now, right?" asked Tony. "Can't a guy dance with his friend on his wedding day?"
"Well, yes. But.."
"I know, still a little weird, specially since we've been baby-stepping this thing so far."
"Yes. So.. Explain" Wanda prompted.
"I just wanted to thank you" Tony explained.
"Thank me for what?" Wanda frowned.
"Harley" said Tony. "I knew I'd probably be too busy to welcome him, so I needed someone who'd be nice but not overwhelm him too much. For some reason I thought of you."
"Me?"
"Yeah, and I knew he'd probably get along with Peter, but you know how teenagers are.. can't force it. So, I just had to sit Harley with someone I knew would look after him and just hope he and Peter hit it off on their own.. it seems like they have."
They glanced toward the table. It looked like Peter and Harley were exchanging numbers and social media profiles, although regularly cast suspicious glances at his Aunt May, dancing with Happy Hogan.
"I'm happy I could help" Wanda smiled. "Harley seems like a good kid."
"He is. Great kid actually. First kid that made me not so afraid of kids, which is especially important now that I'm going to.." Tony froze.
"Going to what?" Wanda smirked.
"Forget I said anything. Really. I'm not allowed to talk about that for.. eight more weeks, I think? Oh, Pepper's going to kill me.."
"Congratulations" Wanda chuckled. "And don't worry, your secret is safe with me."
Previous Chapter
Pairing: Loki Odinson x OFC  |  Word Count: 5608 Warnings: none
Lauren twisted her fingers together, her stomach a mess of churning acid kicked up by the wings of the butterflies dancing in her belly. She hated being on stage. It brought back memories of pageants and recitals when she hadn’t won or been good enough. When her mother’s presence had caused her fingers to fumble or her feet to trip.
Sweat broke out along her spine. Nausea took over for the butterflies, and she wondered if she’d be sick when the presence at her back, cool like an ocean breeze pressed against her. She could see Loki just past the curtain, green bright and shining in his eyes as the spectre behind her wrapped her in arms of air.
He’d returned her phantom lover to her to offer comfort while he had to be down there in the overly large crowd, and it made her smile, his constant care and attentiveness.
Bucky stood on one side of him, Steve to the other. Thor had collected her grandmother and the boy Lauren had yet to meet and taken them away to sit with Pepper and Tony. Even now she could hear the peels of laughter from her grandmother as they floated to her from across the lawn. Evidently, Ellie was having a great time. Unlike Lauren.
She closed her eyes, leaned into the cold embrace, and breathed out the anxiety. Soon it would be all over. She could get off this stage and stop feeling like some prize pumpkin everyone had come to gawk at.
“Lu?”
She opened her eyes and offered Sadie a wan smile. “Yeah?”
“I’m sorry to put you through this.” The brunette bit her lip. “It’s just… what with your friends and all, the opportunity was too good to pass up and…”
Worry coated the woman’s face, and Lauren swiftly reached for her hands. “It’s okay, Sadie. I understand.”
She squeezed Lauren’s fingers. “I know how much you hate this. You’re first. Loki made me promise.”
Lauren threw a glance his way and offered him a sweet smile. “He’s always lookin’ out for me.”
“That man adores you. It would be sickenin’ if it weren’t so sweet,” Sadie teased before giving her a final squeeze and hurrying away.
A gaggle of giggling women tramped their way up the stairs at the back of the stage, drawing Lauren’s attention. Most looked at her curiously, likely wondering what twist of fate had thrust her into the company of people like the Avengers. When three of them broke from the others to saunter their way over, Lauren did her best to retain her sigh of resignation.
“Lauren,” Lisset simpered in her high, childlike voice.
Lauren pasted on a smile. “Barb. Missy. Lisset. How nice to see you again.”
The three women had been a clique for as long as Lauren had known them. While Marabeth and her group of cronies had been the Queen bee and her court, her sister had been older than Lauren by a few years. Lisset and her entourage were the same age as Lauren, and when Marabeth had left the school, these three were quick to take over as the big dogs in their small playground.
Lisset had been the quintessential cheerleader; team Captain of course. She’d dated the Quarterback, Tommy Diffler, married him shortly after they’d graduated, had his three children, and when she found him with his secretary bent over his desk, she’d taken him for everything he was worth in the divorce and now lived in his house… without him.
Year after year Lisset’s basket had been the biggest draw of the fair. Everyone raved over her famous Cherry Jubilee Pie, and the bidding was often fierce for the “honour” of picnicking with the PTA princess. Add in the fact she was ridiculously beautiful, had legs for days, and was lusted after by every male with a pulse between the ages of twelve and a hundred, and Lauren used to feel frumpy just being in the same room.
Today, however, the pinched look on her face said Lisset was well aware of just what was about to occur. For the first time in years, she was not the main attraction.
“How are your little ones?” Lauren asked politely.
“Not so little anymore.” She smiled sharply. “Still single?”
“Engaged, actually, but I’m sure y’all already know that seein’ as how the Mayor made such a fuss this mornin’.” Unlike with her sister, Lauren had never had an issue standing up to Lisset and her crew of hags.
“Right,” Barb chimed in, her smile mean. “To the one who destroyed half of New York.”
Lauren turned her head and gave the woman the smile she’d picked up from Loki. “Barb, sweety. You’re gonna want to be real careful what y’all say about a Prince of Asgard and an Avenger. Kipling Scott already got an earful from Captain Rogers. And Quinn found out just how fast Thor will come to his defence only yesterday.”
To Lauren’s surprise, Missy stepped forward, her smile far kinder than either of her friends. “You look so good, Lauren. New York seems to agree with you.”
“Thanks, Missy.” She smiled and took the woman’s offered hand. “I do love the city.”
“My that is quite the necklace,” Missy continued as Lisset and Barb looked on. “A gift from your beau, no doubt.”
The pinched lips of Lisset made Lauren grin a little wider. “He does have a tendency to spoil me. Asgardians are anythin’ but subtle.”
A microphone crackled in the background, announcing the start of Sadie’s auction.
“Good luck today, Lauren,” Missy said as she turned away. “I hope you have a pleasant lunch.”
“Yes. It would be a shame if your… fiancé couldn’t claim your basket,” Lisset muttered as she walked away. “C’mon, Missy!”
“She’s a bit put out, knowin’ it’s you everyone’s here for. You’re gonna make Sadie quite some money,” Missy whispered, gave a wink, and hurried off, the skirt of her pink dress flicking around her calves.
Watching them go, Lauren felt the phantom arms tighten ever so gently and glanced toward Loki. He arched a brow curiously.
“Maybe one of the three actually grew up some since high school,” Lauren murmured, knowing he would hear her.
A mischievous smirk curled his lips.
“Just what are y’all up to?” she asked him, but he only gave a minute shrug.
Sadie’s voice kept her from asking any more questions of the god with the superpowered hearing. “Hey, y’all! How’s everyone enjoyin’ this here fine Fourth so far?” Loud cheering erupted and made Sadie giggle.
It made the butterflies in Lauren’s belly return with a vengeance.
“That’s so great! I want to thank y’all for comin’ out to support our foundation. We all know it’s been a tough few years for folk, but your continued generosity and support is appreciated.” More cheering and polite applause sounded, and Sadie dropped a little curtsey. “Too kind, all of y’all.” She waited for the noise to die down before beginning again. “Now, I know most of you are here for a reason other than supportin’ the foundation what with the Avengers in town!” Her voice was drowned out for the fourth time, and she held up her hand for silence. “Had I known a might earlier, I would have done my best to get a couple of these fine gentlemen up on stage. Or perhaps Miss Romanoff or Miss Potts, but as it is, I was able to stron’ arm my very best friend into helpin’ out. While I can’t guarantee y’all will get a chance to eat with one of her friends, I can at the very least give y’all an opportunity to try. With our first basket up for auction, Lauren Annandale!”
Sadie turned her way with an outstretched hand, and Lauren forced her legs to work, taking her out of the phantom arms as she forced a smile. Walking toward the woman was an act of will, and when Marcus appeared with her basket, she gratefully accepted his arm.
“I know how hard this is for you, Lu. You’re a saint for givin’ into Sadie, and I’m sorry about Kip,” Marcus whispered in her ear.
“S’okay. Just let me cling, and we’ll call it even,” she whispered back.
“Most of y’all don’t know it, but our Lauren is quite the fine cook, ain’t that right, Lu?” Sadie asked, grinning at her.
Lauren blushed. “If you say so, Sadie.”
“I say so!” shouted Bucky, making the people nearest him chuckle.
“Shush your yap, James,” Lauren grumbled, causing more laughter to erupt.
Sadie was practically bursting with excitement at how things were ramping up, Lauren could see it in the gleam of her eyes. “So, Lu? What’s on offer for these fine folk?”
Lauren forced her smile not to waver and leaned towards the mic. “The usual picnic fare. Fried chicken, potato salad, a few finger foods, a Hummin’bird Cake for dessert, and Loki was kind enough to include a fine bottle of Asgardian wine.”
That caused a stir to ripple through the crowd. Lauren took note of Kipling standing at the opposite corner of the stage, away from Loki. Bill Dalton lurked with Maryann closer to the middle. The Mayor was off to the side, and a few other people she could just tell were itching for the bidding to start scattered throughout the crowd.
But when she looked at Loki, he remained relaxed, confident, and composed, waiting only a few feet away. His eyes held a wealth of appreciation and understanding, helping her retain her nerves for these next few minutes.
“Ooh! Sounds delicious!” Sadie giggled and turned back to the crowd. “Don’t it folks? Who’s got an openin’ bid for me? Remember now, it’s for a terrific cause! So if you can open those wallets, open ‘em wide!”
“Three hundred dollars.”
Lauren tried not to blanch when Bill Dalton got things underway.
“Four.”
Jasper Rubin. It didn’t surprise her, but it wasn’t welcome.
“Five!” shouted the Mayor.
“Six!”
“Seven!”
“Seven fifty!”
“Eight!”
The bidding went so fast, Lauren was hard pressed to keep up.
“Oh, come on!” Tony shouted from the back of the crowd. “I’ve had Asgardian wine. Make it worth her while, people. Five thousand dollars!”
Lauren grabbed hold of Sadie’s mic. “Tony Stark! Sit your behind down!”
Everyone laughed when Tony pouted.
“We’ve got five thousand, do I hear another bid?” Sadie called out once she stopped laughing.
“Ten thousand.”
Everyone gasped and looked at Kipling. This time, Lauren knew she’d gone white. What the hell was he playing at? Hard eyes and a face which gave nothing away stared back at her.
“Fifteen thousand.”
Her head snapped around to stare wide-eyed at Davis Montgomery. Where the hell had he come from?
“Twenty thousand!” Tony barked.
“Anthony Stark! I will so quit!” Lauren yelled without the microphone.
“No you won’t!” he bellowed his grin wide.
“Twenty-five thousand!” Kipling barked.
He was going to get himself killed. Already Bucky and Steve were eyeing him like a bug needing to be squashed. And if they didn’t squash him, Loki would. The flash of sharp green from behind his narrowed eyes was full of annoyance.
“Thirty!” Bill Dalton cried, earning a sharp smack from his wife.
“Y’all never paid that kind of money for one of my baskets!” Maryann shrieked.
“Thirty-five thousand,” Davis groundout.
Spots danced in Lauren’s vision. This was getting out of hand. The most anyone had ever sold a basket for was five thousand dollars. Thirty-five thousand was outrageous!
“Forty thousand,” Kipling countered.
Lauren had no idea what he was playing at. What could he possibly want from her that he was willing to face not only Loki’s wrath but the entire team’s anger?
“Fifty thousand.”
“Bucky!” she gasped. Her neck cracked when she whipped her head down to glare at the smirking face.
“What?” He shrugged. “Not like I need it, doll. Might as well put it to good use.”
Before she could scold him for spending his money on something so frivolous as a picnic basket worth at most thirty dollars, the voice she’d been waiting for rippled cool and calm over the crowd.
“Five hundred thousand dollars.”
Lauren damn near choked on air she inhaled so hard.
***
As she looked about to faint, Loki made his way to the front of the stage where he walked casually up the stairs to take his love from the arm of Marcus, while Lauren stared at him in horror. “Breathe, pet,” he whispered against her cheek,  pressing a kiss there, staking his claim. “And before someone can be foolish enough to counter my offer,” he cast a warning glare toward Scott and the rest of the bidders, “I shall sweeten the deal, Sadie dear.”
“Oh? Do tell?”
The woman appeared fit to burst she was so excited. “Just what price would you put on my assistance with your… Haunted House?”
Sadie’s jaw dropped, as did her husbands. “That would be… it would… priceless!” she finally gasped.
“Consider it included.”
“Sold!” Marcus barked, handing over the basket.
“Excellent. The funds will be transferred once I have your information.” He gave the pair of them a nod as he led Lauren from the stage with nothing but shocked faces all around. “Shall we dine with your Gran, darling?” he asked, heading that way when Lauren’s voice remained absent.
As he led her through the sea of people parting before him, Barnes fell in on one side, Rogers the other, and he assisted his evidently mute wife to a space beneath the trees where her gleeful Gran sat.
“You… you… you…” Lauren stuttered.
“Yes, dear?” he chuckled as he magicked a blanket and seated her on it. Behind them, Sadie had regained her faculties enough to call up the next basket for auction and continue on, her voice and that of the crowd becoming a pleasing drone.
Lauren slapped weakly at his chest, her knees buckled, and he lowered her to sit beside her Gran. “Why would you… that was too much… how could you spend… what the hell, Loki!?” she finally barked when her senses returned. She closed her hands in his shirt and jerked him down until they were nose to nose. “Why would you ever spend that kind of money on me!?”
“Darling,” he growled, biting her tempting pout. “I would spend ten times that amount if it were necessary.”
“But… all your money on somethin’ so trivial?”
His brow arched with his amusement. “Oh, my heart. That is hardly all my money. Your Earthly currency had been accumulating nicely since I diversified my stock portfolio.”
“Huh?” She blinked up at him.
“You didn’t think all I did was watch daytime television, did you?” he grinned.
Her head fell to his shoulder, and a loud groan could be heard by all.
Chuckling, Loki settled at her side and drew the bottle of wine from the basket. Pepper’s smirk when she caught his eye was wicked, but he only smiled back. She had been the one to pique his interest in certain things and then assist him in his choices when he’d asked her opinion.
“Have a drink, love. You’ll feel better,” he offered, removing the cork from the bottle and pouring her a glass.
“While not the battles we are used to, brother, this was certainly an entertaining one,” Thor snickered.
“What the heck were you thinkin’, Tony? Jumpin’ the bid to five thousand?”Lauren huffed.
Stark rolled his eyes. “Oh, please! I was just weeding out the competition for the horned wonder.”
“Besides,” chuckled Ellie, her eyes full of laughter. “It all goes to a worthy cause. Spread the wealth! Live a little. Your youn’ man kept his word, and here you sit. Stop fussin’ at him, child!”
Lauren shook her head and began pulling containers from within the basket, adding them to the ones already set out. “I know it was a good cause, but still. Half a million dollars!”
Loki wrapped his fingers around the back of Lauren’s neck and drew her toward him. “Like I said, my love. I would have paid ten times as much. More even, to have you.”
Big jade eyes stared up at him, disbelief still filling their depths. “Foolish, but I’m sure Sadie will appreciate it.”
Loki frowned and cupped her cheek when she tried to pull away. Aware of the audience they had, he ignored each and every one to hold her close, lay a tender kiss upon her lips, and murmur, “There is nothing I would not give to have you with me. Little I would not sacrifice to keep you there. And no one would ever stop me from coming for you.”
“Loki,” she sighed and melted into him.
“You are worth every penny, every dime, and every ounce of gold in Asgard to me,” he whispered, nuzzling against her cheek.
“Stop with the sap, already,” Stark grumbled, but he was grinning when Loki looked up to find them all smirking at them in some way, shape, or form.
“Shall we eat?” Loki asked, by way of a subject change and watched them all dig in.
No one mentioned the other bidders, nor whatever Kipling Scott and Davis Montgomery had been up to trying to win Lauren’s basket.
***
Hours later, when the day was growing languid in the heat of the hot July sun, Loki again found himself settled beneath the branches of a stately Ash tree. Lauren was curled against his chest, Benny his thigh, and Sara was wedged in what little space remained between his hip and Lauren’s, while Usun sprawled on his side at Loki’s feet.
Both children were fast asleep. Lauren had dozed off a while ago. His Frost Giant nature a boon for once when the heat had made the children cranky. Now, everyone was napping after the excitement of the day.
More games had been played and won. Stark had excelled at the darts game where he destroyed balloons to win the lovely Pepper a smart green toad in a top hat.
Natasha had sauntered up to a man who swore he could guess anyone's weight, but when he’d leered at the redhead, she’d turned around and pointed at Bucky. The sergeant, currently wearing a shirt with long sleeves and a glove on his left hand, had crossed his arms and smirked at the man. The owner of the game had gaped for a moment but shrugged and given an answer which, had Bucky been an ordinary man, would have been relatively close. However, given his supersoldier nature, the excessive amount of muscle he carried, and the vibranium arm, and the man was so far off, Natasha had her pick of whichever animal she wished.
A purple hippo had joined Sara’s pony in the little girl’s arms.
Then, Thor had taken it upon himself to try his hand at the strongman contest. A hammer against a lever to raise a stone and ring a bell. Lauren had been the one to grab Thor’s arm when the hammer he’d tried to use was Mjolnir. He’d won rather soundly, nearly breaking the game anyway, adding a black and white puppy to Benny’s substantial menagerie.
The town had tried to coerce the Captain into judging the Miss Greenville contest, but he had declined, stating it was against policy for him to be involved in such things. Natasha had quietly coughed bullshit, but no one had noticed besides Loki who’d thrown her a small smirk.
The others had wandered off to find drinks and snacks, the lovely Ellie and young Svengil choosing to return to her home as she was plum tuckered out, but the children who were also tired and overly hot had been moments away from a full meltdown when Lauren had looked at him with eyes full of pleading. He’d swept Benny up in one arm, Sara the other, and headed off to find a worthwhile place to rest.
Both children had burrowed closer when the coolness of his body had registered, Sara going so far as to giggle and bury her face in his neck. He magicked a quick blanket, a few pillows, and settled the bunch of them quickly. Lauren had dropped down with them with a relieved sigh and a little shudder when she came in contact with his cold skin as well.
She’d murmured something about the barbeque and dance starting up in an hour or so, and how she’d just shut her eyes for a moment. A moment which had now lasted long enough for each of the team to wander by and smirk at him.
Currently, Thor was crouched down grinning at him and scratching Usun’s belly.  “Natalia is threatening to post the image she took of “Loki’s little family” on the Instagram thing. Whatever that means.”
Loki rolled his eyes and stroked Lauren’s hand, resting on his chest while threading the fingers of his opposite hand through Benny’s hair. “Like it matters.”
Thor settled to his hip, then sprawled out in the grass. “Perhaps she should.”
“And why do you think that?”
“Maybe it is time the world sees a different side of you. The side of you I remember growing up.”
Arching a brow, Loki gave him a condescending glare. “Because that would change popular opinion so drastically.”
Thor shrugged. “You never know. A softer side of the God of Mischief? It might go a long way.”
“You are mistaken.” It was highly unlikely anyone’s opinion of him would be adjusted due to a photograph of him with Lauren and the children. It may, in fact, only cause unrest among the people. The... butcher of New York living a happy life when so many others... weren’t.
“I don’t know. You make a rather adorable family.” Thor grinned broadly. “Let me know when I can bless the mother-to-be.”
“The mother-to-be is in no rush. Neither am I,” Loki huffed, rubbing the silky strands of Benny’s hair.
“You could have fooled me.”
His hand stilled in Benny’s hair as he lifted his eyes to Thor’s. “I will admit to finding this… ready-made family… pleasing.”
Thor huffed out a chuckle. “You can dance around the truth all you like, but I know you, brother. God of Mischief, God of Lies. What about the God of Revelry? Or has that part of you disappeared over these last harsh years?”
“You know nothing,” Loki scoffed.
“I remember well the man who used to invent games for the children who followed him in the streets. Or who sat and told tales of adventure and wicked imagination.”
“I seem to recall you and the others mocking me for my foolishness.”
Thor’s amusement vanished. “I was young, brother, and quite foolish myself. I did you a disservice all those years ago. My view of things was narrow and nearsighted. I was wrong. Our differences are what makes us unique, strong, and the Gods we are meant to be for our people. I was blind to this, and I am sorry for it.”
“Not all of us are built to be Odin,” Loki murmured.
“No. Not even I am built to be Odin,” Thor agreed.
Nodding slowly, Loki tilted his head to rub his cheek gently on Lauren’s hair. “One day, brother, I shall bring you such news, and you can extend your blessing if Lauren agrees.”
“And why wouldn’t she?” he sputtered.
“For one, you most vigorously kissed her best friend in front of her husband!”
“Bah! How else am I to bless such a gorgeous woman?” Thor smirked.
Loki scowled. “You may keep your lips to yourself when it comes to my wife, Thor.”
“So territorial. It has only been a day.”
“A day millennium in the making. Do not make me stab you, brother. I will. King of Asgard or not.”
“What are y’all fightin’ about now?” Lauren sighed, her lashes fluttering open as she lifted her head from his chest.
“Nothing important, my sweet. Thor is simply being obstinate. As per usual.”
“Your husband is most territorial,” Thor grumbled.
Lauren’s smile was full but sleepy yet when she turned it on Thor. “He is, isn’t he?”
Musicians began to tune their instruments not far away. Setting up on the stage Lauren had walked a few hours ago and drew her attention.
“Looks like things are gettin’ started,” Lauren said, sitting up to have a look around. A smile nearly bigger than she was split her lips when she caught sight of someone through the crowd. “Oh! He did it!”
Loki looked away and chuckled, finding the weathered visage of Teddy leading an equally weathered woman - the Miss Swan of his past conversation with Lauren - around on his arm. “It appears he took your advice, darling.”
“Good. Those two have been dancin’ around each other for as long as I can remember,” Lauren snickered. “And you, Thor? You ready to eat some of the best barbeque you’ve ever tasted?”
“Little sister, I am always ready to eat,” Thor chuckled.
She opened her mouth to say more, only to have all the blood rush from her face. “What…?”
Across the way, Loki spied the smug visage of Marabeth striding toward them, but it was Agent Hill who walked along at her side which caused a tremor of concern to skate Loki’s spine. Marabeth looked far too pleased with herself, and it gave him pause.
The children stirred, waking in time to witness the arrival of their mother. “Get up. We’re leavin’.”
“Mama?” whispered Sara.
“Maria?” Lauren asked Agent Hill in confusion.
“I’m sorry, Lauren. Samuel Avirett has turned state’s evidence. He’s willing to testify in the case against the Bianci’s. He and his entire family have to be put in witness protection.”
Maria’s face was pinched hard, and Loki could tell she was not at all pleased by this turn of events.
“Yes, Lauren. Thanks to you and your meddlin’, Samuel is now goin’ to be a wanted man, and after I was finally told about what almost happened to my children last night, it was for our own good and protection we go into hiddin’. Which means no contact with our family until after the trial. It could be years until that happens.”
Horror filled her, Loki could feel it crawl through his veins like acid, and Lauren whimpered, “You’re takin’ the babies?”
“Oh, for Christ sake, Lauren! They ain’t babies and their not yours to cry over!” She reached for Benny only to have Usun snap at her. “And you can keep that filthy mongrel!”
“No!” Benny cried, lunging to wrap his arms around Usun. “He’s mine, mama! He’s mine!”
“Agent Hill,” Thor got swiftly to his feet, followed only slightly slower by Loki as he helped Lauren to hers. “The hound is the children’s protector. Surely SHIELD can make concessions for his inclusion.”
“Of course they can,” Maria agreed without a qualm.
“I don’t want him!” Marabeth shrilled.
“Too bad,” Loki snarled, causing her to take a step back. “The hound has been gifted. He cannot be returned. No one will lay a finger on the children as long as he lives!”
“Please,” Lauren whispered, staring at her sister. “Please don’t take them away!”
Marabeth smiled, and it was nasty. “Can’t be helped. The Bianci’s will use them against Samuel if they can. What? You expect me to abandon my children? What kind of mother do you think I am, Lauren?”
“Maria?” Lauren turned her focus back to Fury’s right-hand woman.
Hill only shook her head. “I’m sorry, Lauren. Once Avirett offered to testify… it was out of my hands.”
“You have them all in custody?” Loki snapped, and Hill nodded. “Then what is the point? Jail them! Let this be done. Is not there enough evidence to see this finished without Avirett’s testimony?”
“Clearly, you know little of our judicial system,” Marabeth sneered.
“I will follow through on my promise, woman!” Loki hissed, stepping forward. “Leave the children with us. Lauren can see to them, and I can protect them. No one could do a better job.”
Marabeth gasped and brought a hand to her chest. “How dare you, sir! Insinuatin’ I would leave my children behind in the arms of some… stranger?”
Tears had begun to roll down Lauren’s cheeks. “Since when am I a stranger? Please, Marabeth! They’ll be safe and happy!”
She reached out to her sister who slapped her hands away. “No! They go with us. Their actual parents.”
“Why are you doin’ this?” Lauren pleaded, both children clinging to her legs.
“Because,” Marabeth sneered. “I can.”
Loki saw red, but a small hand slipped into his, and he looked down to find Sara staring up at him in fear. “Oh, my precious dove.” Kneeling swiftly, he scooped her up and held her tightly to him.
“You promised!” she whispered. “You promised you’d never go away!”
“I’m not, precious. I won’t.”
“Come along, Sara! We have to pack your things and be gone.” Marabeth snapped out her hand.
He was a moment away from spiriting the children to Asgard when Lauren’s hand came down on his shoulder. Her eyes pleaded with him to hold his temper, to keep calm while she did her best to hold herself together.
“It’s… it’s okay, peaches.” She knelt down with him and drew Benny in. “You two have to go on a little trip with the nice people from SHIELD, but you’ll be safe with Usun.” Lauren was hanging on by a thread, but she pasted on a smile and cupped Sara’s cheeks when the girl sobbed. “Now, now, sugar cube. None of that. It’s only for a little while.” She turned to Benny and hugged the little boy to her when he broke down in tears.
“Sara, darling,” Loki whispered, keeping his voice purposefully soft so it remained only between them and brushed her hair from her face. “I need you to listen to me, little dove.”
She nodded, her ocean eyes drowning in tears.
“I’m going to give you something very special. It is just for you, and you must never take it off. Do you promise?”
“Yes… Loki.”
“Excellent,” he rushed, knowing the heinous woman could snatch them away at any moment. He produced the pendant out of thin air, much like he had Lauren’s, and placed it around her neck. Small and discrete, the green stone was wrapped by a golden serpent and hung on a delicate but unbreakable chain. “This is a special necklace. If you are ever scared, you wrap your fist around it and call to me. I will come for you wherever you are. Do you understand?”
She nodded solemnly. “You promise?”
“With everything I am, darling, but this is for emergencies only, my little dove. For dire times. It must not be used on a whim, alright?” he cautioned. She was brilliant little Sara, and he trusted her to use it wisely.
“I love you, Loki,” she whispered, breaking his heart as she threw her arms around his neck.
Rising with her, he handed the new stuffed toys to Hill. “Do not endanger these children, Maria.”
“We’ll keep them safe, Loki,” she managed to say after finding her voice, his actions counter to what people knew of him. “I promise.”
“You’d better.” There was no room for error in his voice.
The impatience of Marabeth was growing, evident in the tapping foot and crossed arms. “We haven’t got forever!” she huffed.
“We have as long as I say!” Maria barked, glaring at Marabeth.
Placing a kiss on Sara’s hair, he set her down and Lauren swept her up. Benny looked up at him, and Loki picked him up to hold close and whispered in his ear. “You look after your sister and trust Usun. He’ll protect you both.”
“I will,” the boy whispered back, tears dripping off his chin.
“It won’t be forever,” Loki promised. “You’re a good boy, Benny. Don’t ever think otherwise.”
“Do we have to go?” he whispered, tearing a hole in Loki’s heart he wasn’t sure would ever heal.
“I’m afraid so, young Ben.” He hugged the boy a little tighter, then handed him to Hill before he changed his mind and simply took them both. It would be exceptionally hard to convince people he hadn’t kidnapped two young children if there were witnesses.
“I’ll miss you,” Sara whispered, burying her fingers in Usun’s coat.
“We ain’t takin’ that dog, Sara!” Marabeth barked.
“Yes, we are,” Maria stated.
“It would not matter if you left him behind. He is a dyrehund. He could find them across oceans if such was required. He is their guardian from all who would harm them. You can not get rid of him so accept it, woman!” Thor bellowed, clearly having had enough. “Agent Hill. Usun will require fresh meat. I trust whatever agents you will have guarding this family will see to his proper nutrition as well?”
“I will make sure they know, Thor.” Maria nodded. “Lauren…”
Lauren only turned her face into Loki’s shoulder.
“Just go,” Loki murmured, wrapping his arms around his destroyed wife.
Maria carried Benny away, Sara sticking to her side as far from Marabeth as possible. Marabeth threw a triumphant smirk over her shoulder, Lauren’s pain all she could hope for.
He’d never wanted to kill someone so badly in his entire life.
Only once the children were away did Lauren let the heart-rending sob explode from her throat. Her knees gave out and she collapsed into Loki’s chest.
The Domestic Life Of The Vision And His Witch, Chapter 11: Adventures In Super-Babysitting, pt 1.
Summary:  Staying at the Avengers Compound in the lead up to Tony's Wedding, Wanda and Vision allow Nat, Clint, Bucky, Sam, and Bruce to babysit.
Ao3 link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/18461504/chapters/45779521
Tony and Pepper's Wedding was now only a few days away. Due to the considerable distance between the Barton Farm and the City, Clint, Wanda, Vision and the twins were heading over early. Natasha was coming to pick them all up in the Quinjet the following day.
While Wanda put the twins to bed, Vision, with his well-organised mind, had taken on the job of packing everything they would need for their trip. No easy task when travelling with two seven-month old babies, one of them just beginning to crawl. Babies needed quite a lot of luggage. A few sets of extra clothes for each day of the trip. More diapers than you ever think you would need, lest you be left without a spare when you need one most. Wipes. Bottles, blankies, favorite toys.
He had left a cooler by the fridge, ready to pack some frozen breast milk (the boys' ever increasing number of teeth made it difficult to continue physically nursing, but Wanda was happy to pump for a little while longer to ensure her sons had the best) and portions of homemade baby foods Wanda had lovingly prepared. They wanted Tommy and Billy to have the very best start in life, and part of that was knowing exactly what they were feeding them.
Finally satisfied that he had packed everything, Vision set aside the twins' bag so he could begin packing for himself and Wanda. Just as he was carefully packing up his tuxedo, Wanda entered the room.
"Packing going okay Vizh?"
"Just finished with the boys" He looked up at her with a smile. Vision always smiled when Wanda entered a room, even if it had only been a few minutes since he had last seen her. "Did they get to sleep alright?"
"Like mici ingeri" Wanda replied, her eyes sparkling. "Now, how can I help?"
"Uh.." Vision thought for a moment, his gaze flickering towards her underwear drawer. Even though he saw Wanda in her underwear all the time (now that they lived alone, she would often walk around the house in it to tempt him when the twins were asleep), and she had given him permission, because, 'packing', but somehow, going through her intimate apparel didn't quite sit right with him.
"Sometimes, Vizh, I think you are too much of a gentleman" Wanda shook her head, chuckling. "But alright. I will handle my lingjerie". She sat on their bed beside him, opening her drawer. "So, how are you feeling about our first big family trip?"
"It.. well, it will be an experience" Vision sighed.
"You're still worried about Billy, aren't you?"
"No.."
"Vision" she raised an eyebrow.
"Well.. maybe a little" He admitted. "It's just.. Tony's wedding is such a big event."
"It is" Wanda nodded. "But we'll be surrounded by people who love Billy. Besides, it's been pretty quiet on the baby powers front."
"That is true" Vision smiled, trying to relax.
"So as long as Tommy doesn't suddenly develop any fantastic abilities" said Wanda, "We should be all clear."
They both laughed, then froze, sharing a look. But.. No. They had nothing to worry about. --
The next morning, they all headed up to meet Clint at the house, and before long, Natasha landed in the Quinjet to pick them up. Nat hopped out to say a quick hello to Laura and the kids, and Bucky Barnes, seeming quite a bit happier than he had been the last few times Wanda had seen him, appeared to help load up their bags. Bruce was visible inside the jet, working away at a computer.
Slightly surprised to see them both for a simple pick-up, Wanda gave a questioning glance in Nat's direction.
"I thought I should drag Bruce out of the lab for a bit, even if it was just onto the jet" Nat explained with a shrug. "But since Steve and Tony made up, Tony decided he wanted Steve in the wedding party, so he's been off at a bunch of last minute suit fittings, and Carol's visiting her friend Maria until tomorrow. Something always ends up broken if we leave Sam and Bucky home alone together, so I just asked which one of them wanted to come help with all the bags. Bucky got in first."
"That makes sense" Vision agreed, as they all headed inside the jet, and Wanda chuckled. They were touched to notice that baby seats had been installed in the jet for Tommy and Billy, and carefully strapped the twins in before taking their own seats nearby.
"Ahh" Clint took his old place in the pilot's seat, with no argument from Natasha, who happily resumed the role of his co-pilot. "Just like old times, right Nat?"
"Hopefully with a little less danger, since we've got babies on board" Nat grinned. "But otherwise.. yeah." --
"So, we were thinking, kid" said Clint, when they were around halfway back to the compound. Wanda looked up, knowing immediately that he was talking to her, since there was no one else on the jet whom Clint would call kid, and definitely not with that much affection in his voice. "We've got a night free, and you and Vision don't really get enough time alone together. How about you two go out for a bit? The rest of us can watch the kids."
"Well.." Wanda and Vision shared a look, then looked over to Tommy and Billy, both, apparently, on their best behavior.
"We've baby proofed a whole floor" said Bucky, grinning, seeming quite proud, and Wanda couldn't help smiling back at him. This Bucky Barnes, happy, bright-eyed, smiling.. This was the Bucky that Steve had been trying to save, and he was most definitely worth saving.
"Alright" Wanda agreed. "But.."
"You'll have to keep a special eye on Billy" Vision warned.
"We know" said Nat.
"And Tommy's just started crawling" Wanda added.
"No problem" said Clint. "I've seen three kids safely through crawling age."
"The twins will be perfectly safe with us" said Nat. "Right Bucky, Bruce."
"Right" Bucky nodded.
Bruce looked up from his work to find both twins smiling at him, angelic little smiles. He smiled back at them.
"Sure. We'll watch the little guys."
Vision still seemed slightly concerned, but Wanda was optimistic. Counting Sam as well, there would be five people watching the twins. What could go wrong? --
So that evening, Wanda and Vision headed out for the night, leaving Nat, Clint, Bruce, Bucky, and Sam to baby sit Tommy and Billy. Nat set up the twins with a rug on the floor and some of their favorite plush toys, while the others popped 'Toy Story' into the DVD player, since Bucky had never seen it.
Around the time Buzz and Woody got left behind at Pizza Planet, Bruce got up to get a drink. He cast his eyes to Tommy and Billy, playing together happily, then headed for the Kitchen. As he raided the fridge, Bruce thought he spotted a tiny, almost familiar blue blur in the corner of his eye, but when he turned, there was nothing there. A few moments later, it happened again.. still, nothing. He shrugged, taking a can of soda and heading back to the lounge..
And there was one less baby on the rug.
"Not to alarm anyone" said Bruce, trying desperately to keep himself calm, "But where's Tommy?"
"He's just.. what the hell?" cried Sam, also realizing Tommy was gone.
"He.. was right here, just a second ago!" Bucky panicked.
A flash of blue, and they noticed Tommy, in crawling position, right on the other side of the room.
"Oh, great.. Clint frowned, picking up Billy. "Little Stinker takes after his Uncle."
"Tommy" Natasha crouched, smiling her sweetest smile, "Come here to Auntie Nat.."
Tommy giggled, and zoomed away, once again out of sight.
"It's okay" Bucky tried to stay calm. "This whole floor is baby.."
Bucky was interrupted by the sound of the compound's elevator, and five Avengers yelled in unison.
"NO!" as they all desperately rushed to stop it.
This was definitely not going the way they had hoped.
The Domestic Life Of The Vision And His Witch, Chapter 6: What Makes A Home
Summary:  For Wanda, their new cottage doesn't feel like 'Home'. Not quite yet.
Ao3 link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/18461504/chapters/44547409
It had been a very long time since Wanda Maximoff had had a place that she could truly call Home. The only one she could really think of had been blown apart when she was just ten years old, an event that had set her on a misguided quest for revenge for most of her life.
Then, just as the Avengers Compound had started to feel like it could become Home, the Avenger's Civil War had happened.. They were all so very ashamed of that now, knowing that it had gone much too far.
The closest Wanda had come to feeling at Home was at the Barton House, with Vision and their sons. Clint and Laura had been so eager to make them feel welcome, and had helped Wanda and Vision so much as they adjusted to being parents. Lila would come to Wanda for 'girl talk', and Nathaniel Pietro was old enough now to enjoy hearing stories about his namesake. During one of Nat's visits, she'd caught Clint telling her that it was nice to have all his 'kids' under the one roof. He'd seemed a little embarrassed when he'd thought Wanda had heard, so she wandered off pretending that she hadn't heard a thing, smiling to herself when she was out of their sight. Clint could never replace her lost Father, and Wanda knew he would never try. However, it was nice to have a 'Dad' figure in her life after spending such a large chunk of it without any positive adult influences.
Unfortunately, living with the Barton's was never a long-term solution. So now, there was the cottage.
The Cottage wasn't really 'Home', Wanda thought, a few days after they had moved in. At least, not quite yet. But it could be.
Wanda was slowly working out where to display their photos. Her few pictures of Pietro. One of her parents. A photo of she and Vision at the Barton Farm, a few new ones of Tommy and Billy, who were starting to smile for the camera now. Vision was becoming quite the artist. All of their favorite paintings of his were proudly displayed on the Cottage walls.. Well, almost all of their favorites. A special, very private portrait of Wanda was triple-wrapped and hidden deep in a closet. They would have to find a more secure place for it once Tommy and Billy were old enough to explore.
Bit by bit, they were making the cottage theirs. It helped, a little, that their friends were constantly dropping by with gifts.. Or sending them. --
"I do not recall ordering a new couch and armchairs recently.." Vision's brow furrowed in confusion as an unfamiliar man at the door asked him to sign for a delivery from a furniture store. He turned, calling to Wanda as she fed the twins in the Kitchen. "Wanda, did we order a new couch and armchairs?"
"No.." Wanda had called back, sounding equally confused.
Vision frowned, until a thought came to him, and he turned back to the delivery man.
"May I ask who paid for these items?"
"Uh.. oh. Tony Stark?"
"Of course.." Vision chuckled, quickly signing for the delivery.
They received a washing machine, a brand-new TV, and a swing-set for the twins in the same fashion. Meanwhile, Steve dropped off a few boxes of Wanda and Vision's things that had been left behind at the compound, and a cookbook collection, since he knew Wanda loved to cook. Sam gave them a Kindle, because Vision loved to read. Scott, somehow forgetting that the boys were only five and a half months old, had showed up with an a very elaborate ant farm. Thankfully, Vision was happy to care for his sons' new 'pets'. --
Around two weeks after they had moved in, Natasha came to visit with a brand new coffee maker in hand. But..
"Nat, I don't really drink coffee" Wanda reminded her.
"And I don't drink.. well, anything" Vision added.
"I know" Nat replied, pushing the coffee maker into Vision's arms anyway. "But I do, and I'm going to be a regular visitor."
"That is true" Vision shrugged, carrying the coffee maker to the Kitchen.
"It is" Wanda smiled, and rushed off for a moment.
"Where are you going?" Nat frowned. "If one of the twins is up, I get dibs on first cuddle!"
"Not yet" Wanda returned and dropped something small and metal into Natasha's hand. "Key to the cottage. Use it any time you need, okay? The spare room is set up for you."
"Whoa.. that.. Thank you."
"Cu placere. We have to look after Tommy and Billy's Godmother, don't we?"Wanda headed for the Kitchen. "Would you like a coffee now? The machine shouldn't take long to set up, Vision has inherited Tony's talent with these things."
"Yeah. That would be great, thanks." Nat swallowed the lump in her throat, staring at the key, then smiled softly, tucking the key into her pocket. A baby's cry echoed through the cottage, and her smile widened. "I'll get him!"
After that day, a photograph of Natasha Romanoff with her beloved Godsons joined the others displayed around the house. --
"Hi, Miss Maximoff. I brought a present for your new house!"
"Peter, you can call me Wanda.." Wanda greeted him with a warm smile, although she had been somewhat surprised opening the door late one afternoon to find Peter Parker on the other side clutching a pot plant, a heavy looking backpack slung over his shoulder. Billy, settled on Wanda's hip, squealed joyfully and reached for him. Peter was a favorite with the twins.
"Hey, little guy" Peter reached out with one hand to tickle Billy's tummy. Billy giggled, and Wanda's smile widened.
"This is a pleasant surprise. What brings you here Today?"
"I'm doing a project on Vibranium for school" Peter explained, setting the plant down as he stepped inside. "Is it okay if I talk to Vision?"
"Of course. He's just through here.." Wanda led him into the lounge room.
Vision looked up from the couch where he was bouncing Tommy on his lap, giggling as his little feet kicked at his Daddy's knees. Tommy was beginning to like using his legs.
"Oh. Hello, Peter."
"Peter needs to talk to you about a school project" said Wanda.
"Well, I am always open for educational discussions" Vision smiled.
"Great, thank you! Let me just get my stuff ready" Peter sat down on the couch beside him, and began pulling out the work he had done so far. A map of Wakanda, a diagram of Cap's shield, pages of notes.
Wanda watched, impressed. She knew that Peter was smart, supposedly a Stark-level tech genius in the making, but he was really going all out. She couldn't help but worry whether the boy was working himself too hard.. Peter Parker tended to bring out the Mother in her.
"Will you be here for dinner, Peter?"
"Uh.." Peter licked his lips. He had developed a taste for Wanda's cooking. "Yes, Miss Maximoff. If that's okay."
"Wanda" she reminded him. "And of course it is okay, baiat dulce. We love having you over."
She would make sure to cook extra Tonight. Peter was a growing boy, after all. --
A few weeks later, Wanda received a call from Tony. Peter had won an award for his Vibranium project, so Tony, proud Da.. Mentor that he was, was treating everyone to dinner. He had booked two high chairs for the twins.
So on the night of said dinner, Wanda and Vision, each holding a twin (it seemed silly to bring a pram and clutter the place up), arrived at the restaurant Tony had booked, to find they were not the first to arrive. Scott Lang was standing outside with a dark haired woman, looking rather confused. Wanda had never seen the woman before, but she guessed that she was Hope Van Dyne. Scott had been gushing about her when he came by with the Ant-farm.
"So, what name is the booking under?" Hope was asking.
"I don't know. The invite came from Stark, but the dinner is for Parker.. or was it Pepper.." Scott frowned, but his eyes brightened when he spotted Wanda and Vision. "Hey, you guys! How are the ants?"
"Doing well" Vision replied, shifting Billy to a more comfortable position in his arms.
"Hey, I know you.." Hope pointed at Wanda, a smile spreading over her face. "From the news.. You defeated Thanos.."
"I only held him still.." Wanda blushed. "Thor was the one who actually killed him."
"Still, nice effort" The other woman extended a hand. "I'm Hope."
"Wanda" Wanda moved Tommy to one arm to take the hand Hope offered. "That's Vision, and these are our sons, Tommy and Billy."
"Nice to meet you all" Hope smiled. "So, do you two happen to know what name we're booked under?"
"Stark, I believe" said Vision, as they all headed in together.
Hope glanced at Tommy, squirming slightly in Vision's arms.
"Your babies are adorable."
"Thank you.. would you like to hold him?"
"Ooh, yes please" Hope took Tommy from Wanda as a waiter took them to their Table, where Steve, Bucky, Sam, Nat, Bruce, Thor, Tony, Pepper, Peter, and Peter's Aunt May were already waiting. "I love kids."
"She does" Scott confirmed, rather proud. "Hope's great with Cassie." --
While not entirely uneventful- Clint arrived late, delayed with dropping Lila at a sleepover, and Thor drank his way through a great deal of the restaurant's alcohol stores- The dinner went about as well as a group dinner with the Avengers was ever likely to go.
Everyone wanted a turn with the twins, who, to their parents' great relief, behaved nicely as they were passed around the table. Wanda cast a glance at Vision, beaming at the wide smile plastered on his face. He was such a proud Daddy.
Peter had the night of his life, being congratulated and fussed over by his heroes.
At the end of the night, Tony insisted on having a group photo taken. He thrust his phone into the hands of the waiter who had offered to take the picture, then ran back to the group, wrapping one arm around Pepper's waist, the other over Peter's shoulders.
"Everyone say 'Vibranium'!"
"Vibranium!" --
A parcel arrived at the cottage a few days later, containing a framed copy of the group photo. Wanda quickly found a place for it among the others. A warm, fuzzy feeling filled her.. a feeling like something was complete.
Vision wrapped his arms around her from behind, kissing the top of her head.
"It's a very nice picture, isn't it? And it fits so perfectly with the others.."
"It does" Wanda smiled softly, turning in Vision's arms to kiss him. Then, she glanced towards the lounge.
Natasha, who had stayed over the night before, sat cross legged on the floor, playing peek-a-boo with the twins. Happy baby laughter echoed through the room.
Wanda sighed contentedly, relaxing into Vision's arms.
"You seem very happy Today" He smiled, always glad to see her content.
"I am" Wanda replied. "Sunt acasa."
Because now, she understood. 'Home' wasn't just a place.. It was people.
