27. What comic book trope do you hate the most?

Fridging. But like, real fridging. The original fridging. The Gail-Simone's-criticism-of-sexist-writing fridging. I hate the fact that the TV Tropes article completely divorces it from its origin and says anybody can he fridged. No, because the point of fridging is that it's sexist writing. I particularly hate what they've done with Gwen Stacy (the original one) because THEY KEEP RE-FRIDGING HER. Did y'all see what they did with Judgement Day? 28. What’s a popular fandom take you disagree with about Jason?

I've said the Pit Rage thing so many times now so let's go somewhere else. He doesn't resent Tim. He never resented Tim. It was always about the fact that Bruce hadn't learned from Jason's death and had put another kid in the costume. While brutal, the intention behind the Titans Tower attack actually isn't that different from Jason trying to convince Mia to stop being Green Arrow's sidekick. He's trying to protect people he sees as children in way over their heads. And honestly? I'm not sure he's wrong. I think sidekicks made a lot of sense when they were first introduced as a vehicle for children to see themselves in comics aimed at them. But comics aren't what they used to be. Not only are a lot of them barely meant for teenagers let alone children, in general the history of sidekicks has been incredibly dark with a lot of them dying or facing other incredible traumatizing events. This is another example of a case where Jason is correct and incorrect at the same time. But let's move on before I spend six hours explaining the intricacies of Jason's role as a foil again

28. What’s a popular fandom take you disagree with about Gwen?

I'm assuming you mean Spider-Gwen because, well, it's me, but forgive me if you meant 616!Gwen (or Gwenpool, I guess?? but that seems unlikely).

Honestly the fandom for Spider-Gwen/Ghost Spider is relatively small and I just haven't seen that many bad takes? Like for the Spiderverse movie it's mostly people shipping her with Miles which I approve of, and the fans of the comics have for the most part read all of her appearances and have very grounded takes on her. I've never seen a bad ship for her I swear. I guess that couple on TikTok that dresses up as Spider-Man!Peter (it's the singing through the MCU guy if you know him) and Spider-Gwen are missing the point, and I actually actively dislike that ship, but I've literally never seen anybody else do it???? Like I guess sometimes she's portrayed as more innocent than she actually is but honestly Gwen-Verse is a worse story for Gwen than any fic or fandom take I've ever seen. Like, good for us, fuck yeah earth-65 fans we're the fucking best

It’s the loving to hate stuff

(This is not a call out post, it’s just in general and what I’ve noticed. This post will be very negative so if you don’t want to read please scroll past)

When did it become so popular to hate stuff? Did I miss the memo? Every I look I see people hating on all sorts of medias

Particularly MCU and Riordan Verse

No let me be clear, there’s calling out and hating stuff like, the underlying sexism in RRVerese, or the things that are racist. Or in the MCU being made about how Natasha only got one movie, so on and so forth

That’s stuff that’s really wrong. And complaining about this is okay

To an extent. This stuff should bother everyone. But why is it the only thing some people go on about?

Don’t even get me started on people ‘critiquing’ media (evaluate (a theory or practice) in a detailed and analytical way.) Cause there’s critiquing, personal opinions, and then there’s hating

Critiquing is discussing something, like a plot line, and saying how maybe this would have enhanced the story and stuff, typically evidence would be appreciated. It’s not necessarily mean, more of an observation

There’s personal opinions. Everyone has one, but of yours are only negative upon a media/charecter/so on and so forth, why do you continue to partake in the media? I respectfully don’t understand. There’s been many times where I disliked something, maybe I’ll say I don’t understand this it’s not to my taste, and I leave it at that.

Then there’s just hating. This is really common on tik tok but it’s spreading here too. It’s the Person A hates this, so I’m going to hate it to without forming my own opinion. Soon this is just a mass of people repeating the same thing

This is not me saying stop doing these things (but the last one please make your own opinions) but why can’t we put the joy back into fandoms?

The stupid little headcanons that are used to fix flaws in the story, or just because you like it.

Been venturing back into Reaper76 lately, and even though activity has died down a lot compared to when Overwatch was in its heyday, this is still probably my favourite pairing to sink my teeth into. 

The fandom is also a much nicer space to be in, especially since that annoying, vocal group of people who loved to villainize Jack Morrison based on the colour of his skin has stopped harassing and policing people after it was canonically revealed that:

1. Gabe was the more experienced leader during the Omnic Crisis, but Jack was the one who held the team together and brought out the best in the people around him.

2. Jack was ultimately chosen as Strike Commander because Gabrielle Adawe and the UN found him to be the more suitable candidate for rebuilding, especially since this is now a much more political role after the war has ended.  (Valkyrie short)

3. Unlike a lot of incorrect assumptions that were made, the promotion was not the main cause of the rift between the two characters.  Gabe was, in fact, a supportive friend and teammate who didn’t jump to bitterness over this.  If anything, it was Jack giving Gabe too much leeway and defending his sometimes questionable actions in the years that followed which resulted in his downfall.

There was a year or so that felt like stepping into a minefield where Reaper76 works were written by people who actively hated half the ship, and the sole reason for one character’s existence is to grovel for forgiveness.  It’s character bashing but tagged as the main pairing.  (Something similar happened to MCU!Stony, which is why I’m mainly into comics!Stony now.)  Some of the excuses I saw trying to justify Reaper working for Talon, a literal terrorist organization behind horrifying acts (and not a double agent either), was mind boggling.  It’s made worse because they don’t judge Jack by the same standards, and actively went out of their way to paint him as some useless white guy who barely contributed to the war effort and “stole” the promotion.      

I remember some of my favourite creators being harassed and bullied to the point that they straight up deleted their stories and left the ship.  The “moral high ground” fandom police held up their own headcanons as the be-all end-all for everyone (because I guess they never learned the basic fandom etiquette of “Your Headcanon Is Not Canon”), and if you disagreed with them you were called a bunch of names and had to deal with some truly terrible BS.  

It’s such a disservice to Gabe and Jack too, because they’re complex characters whose relationship got reduced to one of jealousy and hatred, and the things that each of them were allowed to explore ended up being severely limited in fear of pissing off said fandom police. 

Luckily this isn’t really the case anymore, and with a bit of digging you can find many fics that aren’t one-sided.  My favourites have always been the ones that allowed them to explore their own shades of grey. 

After many years of being in various fandom spaces, I feel like I’m generally not as interested in participating anymore unless I know that the source material is aimed at a mature audience, or the people I am interacting with will behave like adults.  Some positive examples of this would be:

1. Hannigram, where the fandom has pretty effectively shut down policing (because seriously are you going to try and police the “murder husbands” ship that contains a cannibal serial killer?)

2. A lovely Taiwanese Top Gun discord server where everyone is very well versed in their fandom etiquette of “Ship and Let Ship”, “I Am Responsible For My Own Content Consumption”, and the aforementioned “Your Headcanon is Not Canon”. 

Things like this really make such a big difference towards having a good time, instead of dealing with all sorts of fandom wank.

Team thor style og6 mockumentary, set in 2012 era Avengers tower…

(or, in which i combine my avengers tower pinterest boards, polyvengers, and my incorrect og6 headcanons, and turn it into a whole semi-fic thing)

(part 1 of many)

Random exposition:

The premise for the show would be the original six avengers doing completely mundane shit in Avengers tower.

(Completely ignoring all canon relationships) ((you know what, let’s just ignore literally everything that happens after av1))

Bruce moves in first, immediately after the Battle of New York. The tower isn’t done being remodeled, the apartments tony is planning on surprising the Avengers with haven’t been built yet, but Tony’s penthouse is still mostly intact, so Bruce spends a month as Tony’s roommate.

The remodeling includes the Avengers’ apartments, the communal floor, and the Avengers rec floor. Jarvis is under strict orders to not let anyone but Tony onto those floors until they’re all ready.

The apartments are built the following month, all on the floor below the penthouse. There’s six apartments, one for each of them (after a talk with pepper, he decided to leave the penthouse to her, something about “feeling closer to the team” blah blah he gave in easily).

Natasha, Steve, Clint, and Bruce (“really, Tony, I literally already live with you”) receive very random emails that basically say hey!! You guys have a place to stay at Avengers Tower!!! Prolonged sleepover!!! Bring your things it’ll be fun!!!

(After realizing that there’s no way to email thor or find what planet he’s even on currently, Tony has to wait until they see him again to relay the news

Steve and Natasha to show up together, Clint right behind them, Nat claiming that his “surprise” wasn’t much of a surprise and that she knew he was building a floor for them the entire time. (She won’t tell how she knows, but Tony has a suspicion that it was Pepper that snitched.)

Steve (who is a sweetheart in this verse, screw the mcu) is eternally grateful and thanks Tony for “being kind enough to let them stay in his home” and chooses to see this as “a wonderful opportunity for team bonding and to get to know each other”.

After a tour of the rec floor and communal floor, which are bigger than even tony thought, he shows everyone to their apartments, where Clint immediately points out that hello they’re completely empty.

Tony uses that to wonderfully segue into explaining that they’re empty so that they can decorate and furnish however they want to (which was peppers idea, because Tony has terrible taste and he should never be allowed to decorate anything himself), and no, Steve, nothing is too expensive, please make it your home.

The communal floor is what they have the most fun with, surprisingly, and Tony realizes halfway through a lighthearted debate over what color sofa they should get that this is probably the start of that team bonding Steve was going on about.

Warnings: This series is going to get Riverdale and The Amazing World of Gumball levels of crazy. There will be many hijinks, wacky adventures, chaos, (hopefully a lot of laughs) and dimensional travel. So if crazy, off the rails (and sometimes emotional) adventures with bleeding heart (I mean this in a positive way), super-powered teenagers are your thing, you've come to the right place. There will also more than likely be crackfics. Lots of them. Memes too. Whole stories dedicated to them.

Notes:

The Timeline is also more than likely fucked. I make references to media that shouldn't even exist yet by the MCU's timeline and some characters are younger than they should be (Like Jason) while still having their backstories (Like Jason). All in all, the timeline is fucked, nothing matters, characters (like Carol and The Guardians) show up way before they're supposed to but we're gonna ignore it all in the spirit of fun.

P.S. when I say nothing matters, I mean canon. Canon doesn't exist in this series, we're all just along for the ride. Welcome to fanfiction, baby! Hope you all enjoy this goofy, sometimes serious, sometimes emotional, sometimes utterly ridiculous series!

The Girl & The Spider

Peter Parker hadn't really been expecting to find a girl breaking into Mr. Delmar's Bodega. Especially not for her backpack that she left behind. He especially didn't expect her to run away from him in fear either. Confused by the girl's reaction, Peter goes back on patrol only to run into her again on a rooftop, drawing. Curious, Peter manages to strike up a conversation with the girl (without her trying to run away from him again) and gets to know a little bit about her. The next day, Peter learns that the girl is a transfer student at Midtown as part of a new program the school is trying and that she's there for six weeks as per the program's rules. As Peter gets to know the girl more, he finds that he's starting to fall in love with her. But he has the nagging feeling that she's hiding something.....
