Severus Snape was resting against a tree when it happened. The castle sat opposite him, just a short way across the clear water. The small ripples created by the creatures in the lake and the summer breeze often distracted him from the book that he rested between his knees and his chest as he tucked them up closely. It was this exact reason that he hadn't noticed the band of robe-clad gryffindors trudging up the slope toward him. James Potter led the group, he wore his signature charismatic grin; a smirk that twinged the corner of his lip upwards and made his nose scrunch beneath his glasses, and he had his wand held loosely in his hand. He twisted the delicate tool between his fingers as you would a drumstick. Sauntering over to Severus, he chuckled at his friends, nudging them playfully with his shoulder.
“Snape!” He jested, calling out to him.
His head snapped up, but he kept his back planted firmly against the tree as the group of marauders ran up to him. He squeezed his eyes shut, just hoping that they would turn and leave. But they were bored and Severus, who had been particularly troublesome toward them, had caught their eyes. Severus inched himself up against the tree so that he rose to his feet and began to turn back in the direction of the castle.
James frowned, a look of mock pity set on his face. “Leaving already, Snivellus?”
Snape reached for his wand, but kept his back to them.  “Fuck off, Potter. I don’t want trouble.”
“Don’t you know it’s rude to turn your back to someone when they’re talking to you, Snape.” Sirius asked him.
Severus whipped around quickly, his wand poised to cast a spell at them but James beat him to it; with one flick of his hand Snape's wand went flying across the river bank. He paled, the four Marauders stepping closer to him.
“Nice one, James.” Sirius cheered.
The dark haired boy backed up slowly, setting his gaze. The four of them were edging closer, threatening him with their wands when you spotted them. You had just finished class and were heading over to the lake with Lily, arm in arm. The two of you were over there in seconds when you saw your friends threatening each other. Much to your boyfriend's dismay, you and Severus had been friends from the beginning of the first year. You met him on the train; a shy boy with long hair who didn’t quite seem certain of the world. Lily bonded with him quickly, and you followed soon after. It wasn’t long after that that you met Sirius Black. Charming, brave, daring; he was the complete opposite to Snape, but you supposed that was what drew you to him so much. It was their clash in personalities that made the two clash. It seemed as though they were always doing something to wind up the other.
This time it had gone too far. You were unsure of what Sev had done to wind up the Marauders so much, but you and Lily were skidding to a stop beside them in a heartbeat.
James caught a glimpse of Lily’s fiery hair out of the corner of his eye. “Lilyflower-”
“Leave him alone, James.” It wasn’t quite a demand, Lily never had that sort of aggressiveness in her, but her voice was firm. She didn’t want her friend to get hurt.
“Ah, Evans, Don’t make me hex you.” James sighed, a playful twinge on his tongue.
“I’m serious.” Lily repeated when James refused to lower his wand, letting it loll around between his fingers.
“No,” Sirius smirked. “I am.”
You gave him a hard stare through narrow eyes, and his smirk dropped. “Siri. Please.”
The boy nodded, nudging his friend who promptly pocketed his wand. Severus seemed taken back, his steps faltering. He glanced gratefully in your direction, though his anger and embarrassment were unmistakable in his eyes.
“You’re lucky that they were here to help you, Snape.”
“I don’t need help from filthy mudbloods.”
You had expected many things from Severus, but those words were not one of them. He spat them with venom; malice intending to bite deep. And bite deep it did.
You froze, eyes glassing over with tears. Serverus Snape had made an incredibly low blow; as a muggleborn, it was safe to say that it took some time to come to terms with your letter to Hogwarts. You were excited, of course but your parents were far from keen. Lily experienced the same thing with her sister too. Things didn’t get much better when you arrived at Hogwarts either. Some saw you as ‘impure’. Unworthy. Sev knew this and he had chosen to use it against you. Perhaps it was in a moment of spite, perhaps he hadn’t meant to say it at all. But all that mattered in that moment was that Severus Snape was just like the rest of them.
You could see Sirius glance your way out of the corner of your eye, but when he took a step toward you you backed away.
“Fuck you, Snape.” You spat back at him, trying to hide the waver in your voice.
“You should watch your mouth, Snivellus.” Lily glared at him before turning on her heel and making her way promptly back to the castle before anyone else could say a word.
You were left standing between the two groups, both slightly shell shocked, in silence.
Sirius, now full of guilt, opened his mouth to talk, but you pursued Lily before he could even form the first syllable.
The tears came flooding in quickly after that.
~
Sirius hadn’t seen you for the rest of the day. and that was partly because you refused to come out of the girls bathroom. He had even tried to get Moaning Myrtle to coax you out to talk to him, but still you refused to show your face as you curled up on the bathroom tile. It made his stomach churn.
His pit of guilt dug itself deeper as he sat in class. Sirius’ leg bounced restlessly during potions and there was just as much ink on the page at the start of the lesson as there was at the end. The detention he was also given didn’t help ease his thoughts. His mind wandered to the worse case scenarios. It was his fault for provoking Snape… What if you never wanted to talk to him again? He was up in an instant when the fateful day came to an end and he could return to the common room. He dragged his feet up to the portrait and muttered the words to open it. Every part of him itched to see your face mingling amongst the crowd.
At first, he didn’t see you. But he managed to make out the crown of your head resting against an armchair tucked away in the corner by the fire. His face softened when he saw the tear tracks staining your face where you had failed to wipe them away properly.
You had spent practically the last two hours crying. Everytime the flood stopped, it seemed to start up again. Severus was supposed to be your friend and he had discarded you just like that. The back of your eyes stung, glassy beads threatening to spill again. When you finally braved it enough to make it back to the common room, you couldn’t bear to go up to your room. You hardly spent any time there anyway because you spent much of it lounging around in Sirius’ bed with the other marauders…and you were angry and Sirius.
No… perhaps angry was too strong a word. Hurt. Hurt by his actions and his and James’ thoughtlessness. Being up in your room would have just reminded you of that. So instead you settled down with a book by the fire trying to distract yourself and let the world move around you.
It didn’t take Sirius very long to reach you. He crossed the common room in a few wide strides.
“Love?” Siri asked hesitantly.
You peeked up at him meekly. Your eyes were red raw and puffy, it made the boy frown. Sniffing, you wiped your eyes with the hem of your sleeve. “Oh.. hi Siri.” you mumbled, not quite meeting his eyes.
“Oh Lovey. I’m so sorry.” He melted, sliding onto the arm of the chair beside you.
“ ‘ts okay. It’s not your fault…”
Sirius scowled. You were far too kind for your own good. He knew exactly what you had been through and made him sick just thinking that you weren’t allowing anyone to take the blame for it. “But it is, Dove. I shouldn’t have provoked him. If I had stopped James and just kept my mouth shut then you wouldn’t have had to come over in the first place.”
A tear spilled from your eyes and all of a sudden you broke all over again. “He was supposed to be my friend, Pads.” You blubbered, voice wavering. “He’s just like the rest of them…”
Sirius took your hands in his, pressing a kiss to them. “You didn’t deserve any of this, my love. I am so, so sorry.”
“Maybe they’re right….” You trailed off. “Maybe I am worthless. If Sev thinks so too then-”
“Shh.” Sirius pressed another kiss to your temple as he scooped you up into his arms. Burying your face into his chest you continued to cry. He trailed his fingers over your back. “You’ve never been more wrong in your life, Lovey. You are worth so much more than that. You’re kind, brave and not to mention the most beautiful girl in the world. You’re worth everything to me. Who gives a crap what they think?”
You sniffled, unsure.
“I mean it.”
You looked up at him, wiping away your tears; a ghost of a smile on your lips.
“I love you.” Siri whispered, kissing you softly.
“I love you too.” You settled your head against his chest, shifting to curl against him.
It was there that James and Lily found you later, entwined with each other and sleeping peacefully. Safe within each other's arms.

RINGS (TREATMENT PT. 2) YOUNG SEVERUS SNAPE X READER
warnings: wolfstar? 😏
It's an autumn Hogsmeade day for the students. I've decided to go with my cousin, James Potter, and his friends: the Marauders. I do regret it, though, since i've been thinking to go with Severus for the day. James was the first one to ask me anyway, and besides... he needs help to find a promise ring for Lily who also decided to join us.
"Y/N! Where are we going next? We've already gotten our stomachs full, got candy, looked at brooms..." James asked and I pondered.
"Oh! James and Sirius, I have a surprise for you two. Remus, Lily and Peter, you guys can go to..." I suggest. Trying to think of a place the three can go to.
"Zonko's Joke Shop!" Sirius suggests and I nod eagerly.
"Um.. okay.." Lily says and I smile, waving at her and the other two as they leave. Lily is the only one that doesn't know what's going on, actually.
"Okay, let's go." I signal the three and we dash to a store in Hogsmeade where all the prettiest and most expensive jewelries are. That's where James is going to buy the promise ring for Lily.
Eventually, we reach the store and we enter. The chime above the door signaling that we did. Shockingly, we are the only customers in the store... or so we thought.
"Good afternoon... Potter, Black... L/N..." A platinum haired boy greets and I smile a bit.
"Good afternoon Lucius. Are you buying a ring for Narcissa?" I ask casually since Lucius has recently became my friend. So did a few more Slytherins who are friends with Severus. I could already feel two pairs of eyes staring at me in suspicion.
"Yeah.. her mother wants me to propose to her by the end of the year." He responds and I nod slowly in understanding.
"How about you, and... Potter along with Black.." He scoffs saying the last names of my friends.
"Will you be buying a ring for S- I- I mean your significant other?" He asks and I sigh out. He knows well that James will kill me once he finds out i'm dating Severus. I'm glad he didn't allow him to find out, though. A loyal friend he is.
"Yeah, and James will buy one for his Lilyflower." I mock and I feel James nudge my arm powerfully, causing me to grip it painfully. Damn those Quidditch arms..
"Alright, alright. Have fun finding your ring." He says, sneering at James. In the corner of my eye, I observed James rolling his pair at Lucius.
"Will do!" I say back to diffuse the tension and I approach the selection of rings. As I arrive, the rings shine in my eyes beautifully, but none of them seemed to match perfectly... yet.
"You have a lover, Y/N?" James whispers to me and I slowly nod. Still examining the rings in front of me.
"Who is he? What's his house? How old is he? Please tell me it's not Snivellus." James says rapidy and I sight out.
"He's in Ravenclaw, he's in the same year as me and no. He's not Severus." I lie. I'm great at lying, actually. I've been able to get away from troubles just by doing so.
"Snivellus." He 'corrects' me and I scoff, rolling my eyes at him.
"Whatever." I answer, but as soon as my eyes stay in place, I spot a beautiful ring. A thick silver ring with a small rectangular-shaped emerald at the top. The silver part was rather detailed. It had carved lines and a crown like shape on it.
"Woah..." I breathily say as I stare at the ring in awe. I quickly raise my hand to get the attention of the one running the shop at the moment, and she approaches me.
"How may I help you?" She asks.
"How much for that silver ring with a rectangular emerald on top?" I follow up with a question.
"100 Galleons. Would you wish to buy it?" She asks and I nod eagerly. As she fixes the ring for me into a small black box, I take out my wallet. Taking 100 galleons out quickly.
"Woah, woah, woah, Y/N. This much for a boy?" Sirius asks and I look at him.
"Yes, Sirius." I respond quickly.
"Are you serious?" He asks and I chuckle a bit as the woman hands me the box.
"No, I'm Y/N." I respond and he glares at me siriusly.
"No, i'm serious, Y/N." He says with a stern voice now. I already place the 100 galleons on the counter.
"Of course you are! You're Sirius Black, how can you not be Sirius?" I joke and I leave them. Scurrying away from the two.
"HEY YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO HELP ME FIND A RING FOR MY LILY FLOWER!!" I hear James shout and I laugh. I'm glad I didn't help him.
I then push the door open and I dash going to my favorite store in Hogsmeade... besides Hog's Head Inn, of course. My favorite store being Tomes and Scrolls. A bookstore, and Severus' favorite space as well. I figure he'd be here the whole day since he doesn't really have anything to do.
Soon enough, I arrive at the front of the store. I stop in my tracks to take deep breaths in and out since I lacked bloody oxygen in my body. Once I recovered from that, I went into the store. A chime signaling my entrance just like the previous shops.
As I enter, I look left, right, up and down for Severus. Fortunately, in an instant I find him. At a corner, standing up. Reviewing a book. He looked attractive once he did so. His tall figure well lit as he stood with a proper posture. His lips slightly apart and his hair positioned in the right places.
I then approach him slowly and normally. My breathing pattern shifting to a slower one, and my heart pounding hardly and quickly in nervousness.
"Good afternoon, Severus." I greet him quietly and he turns his head to me. His scars healed much better compared to last month. The only scar visible was the one on his lip, but he didn't mind, and so did I.
"Good afternoon, Darling." He greets me back. Closing his book and sliding it back into the shelf. "How are you?"
"I'm great. You?" I ask back.
"I'm alright.." He mumbles and I chuckle slightly. That meant he's pretty happy, from what I learned.
"I- I want to bring you somewhere.." I say and he furrows his eyebrows, but releases it eventually.
"Go ahead." He says and I nod. Grabbing his hand quickly and pulling him out of the shop. I quickly walk and he quickly walks as well. Matching the rhythm of our steps.
"This reminds me of the afternoon of our first kiss. Doesn't it for you?" He asks and I chuckle.
"It does, actually!" I laugh into my words, and I hear him laugh slightly too. I swear I heard him laugh. I'm happy he did!
Luckily, it's sunset so when I give the ring, it will be gorgeous. I'm bringing him to the top of the hill where not much people go to since it takes long, but hopefully, no one will be there. I hope it will just be him and I. Just him and I.
Eventually, I arrive to the top and I drag him. Making him face me. I hold his two hands with mine and I genuinely smile at him with my lips.
"What's this, love?" He asks with a smile. Oh my Merlin how much I wanted to see that gorgeous smile again.
"Well..." I start. Letting go of his hands slowly and reaching into my deep pocket. I then slowly kneel down on one knee on the ground covered in the orange leaves of autumn. I then pull out the black box and open it, as if I were proposing.
"I can't promise you that life will be easy, that I can easily clear up the cloud above your head and make the sun shine immediately. I can't promise that the cousin of mine will accept you being my soon to be fiancé and husband." I say and he chuckles, so do I.
"But what I can promise you is that I will do my best to make you happy with all my heart, be loyal, stay by your side, and most importantly..." I pause, looking down and back up at him.
"I promise to love you. Forever and always. No matter the cost, the reputation, the dangers." I say then I stand back up. Removing the ring from its holder and taking the hand of Severus. Sliding the ring on his ring finger.
"I love you so much, Y/N." He says and pulls me in. Our lips connecting and colliding like all the stars in the universe. Fireworks sparked in my body as we moved in sync. His hands snake down to my hips, and my hands find their way to his black curls. I comb through the tangled, yet soft, feeling of them and wrapped my arms around his neck. ————————————
James Potter's Point-of-View
"Come on, love! It's not that far." I tell Lily. Supporting her from the back.
"I know, and i'm fine, James. You don't really need to help me." She says and I sigh. Looking at her lovingly.
"You will need my help if you'd like a child. You know how." I flirt with her and she rolls her eyes with a smile. Her cheeks reddening quickly. I give her a wink and I look back at my three friends behind us. Giving them a signal as we near the hill. A great place to give Lily the promise ring.
"My dear Lilyflower..." I say, reaching for my pocket and slowly pulling out a box, but everything changes until I see two people... snogging each other... but they're not just two people... that's...
"Y/N!?" I shout out and she parts her kiss with the man. The man who's a friend of Lily, and a man I despise. I drop the box back into my pocket and I approach the man.
"WHY ARE YOU SNOGGING MY COUSIN, SNIVELLUS!? WHY ARE YOU PLAYING WITH HER!? HUH?" I ask. Holding Snivellus by the collar and showing him my clenched fist. One I will use to punch him.
"JAMES! STOP IT, JAMES!" I hear Y/N yell at me and I look at her furiously.
"YOU TOO, Y/N! WHY ARE YOU KISSING BLOODY GREASY HAIR HERE!? YOU ALSO SAID YOU WEREN'T DATING SNIVELLUS, AND THAT THE CHAD IS A RAVENCLAW!" I shout at her.
"Okay. First of all, he's my boyfriend. The one Lucius was talking about. Second of all, I lied!" Y/N says and I grow angrier.
"Boyfriend! BOYFRIEND!?" My fist nearing Snivellus' face.
"That's enough, James." Lily says, trying to stop me, but no one and nothing can stop me. My fist then nears Snivellus' face once again. My fist a centimeter away from his incredibly large nose.
"STUPEFY!" I hear Y/N cast and I get pushed back. I groan as it hurts when I land on my back. I swear I heard a snapping sound of some sort... probably the leaves though.
"Severus! Are you alright?" I hear Y/N distantly and I sit up. Looking up at her and smelly Snivellus.
"I'm alright, Love. All is good." He reassures her and I roll my eyes. Sneering at the young man. I hear Y/N and... Snivellus chuckle. Since when did he ever smile? Bloody hell...
"Sorry for James. I love you." I hear Y/N say and I stand up aggressively. Not yet making a move on Snivellus yet.
"I love you too, gorgeous." He says and smiles. Showing his bloody teeth which i'm jealous of since it's whiter... whiter than my teeth. But he does something I desperately hate. He leans nearer to Y/N's face and they... THEY BLOODY KISS!
I storm to the two, but I get held back by, who I believe, is Sirius and Peter. Remus then steps in front of me and hands me a piece of chocolate, which I bite. Along with his fingers as I try to rip them off.
"AAAAAAAAA THAT HURTS JAMES!" Remus shouts and I continue to bite. Even harder.
"LET GO OF MY BOYFRIEND JAMES!!" I hear Sirius shout out and I release Remus' fingers from the pain of my sharp teeth.
"BOYFRIEND!?!?" I exclaim. Tears already falling from my eyes from all the information I have gotten today. The pressure is too much.
"Yess Wolfstar.." I hear Peter say and we all look at him. He's acting queer. Very queer. High on drugs?

76. for bartylily/rosekillily pls<3
76. "i need you to pretend we're dating..." from this post
ahhhahaahaa heeeeeyy elio what a coincidence to see you here on this fine evening with this fine ask lets get into it ~Slug Club shenanigans
"Crouch! Crouch," comes in a hiss and Barty's lips already tug in a wide grin before there's a painful pinch on his arm and he turns to no other than Lily Evans, cheeks flushed a delightful pink, aubern hair glinting beautifully in the backdrop of the chandeliers of Slughorn's office and green eyes intense as ever.
"Well, hello my dear Lilyflower," he drawls, cocking his head and letting his posture slouch even more to get closer to her. "What can I do you f—"
Another pinch, harder this time, "Shut up." And Barty's cheeks strain. "I need you to pretend we're dating."
"Lily, love, if you'd wanted a snog you could have just asked. You know tha—"
"Never fucking mind."
"Nooo, waitwaitwait," Barty reels her back in by the crook of her elbow, then sets on his best pokerface, "Who are we scaring off?"
Lily rolls her eyes, lips falling into a pout as she warily scans the crowd, "You know who."
Barty grins, exposing sharp teeth, "Yeah but I wanna hear you say it."
"You-" Lily's nostrils flare, glaring up at Barty, then presses out a long breath that's persumably supposed to be grounding, "Well, Potter obviously."
Barty hums understandingly, "And of course you know I'm the only one in school that could meassure up to him despite being one year younger, huh? So smart and talented I could even beat an upperclassman in a fair fight."
Lily's mouth has parted halfway through Barty's monologue, the knit in her eyebrows remaining, though she doesn't say a word against the way Barty's palms are slowly settling over the width of her hips, the velvety dress indecently warm against his skin.
The ginger girl tuts, poking the tip of an index finger against the middle of Barty's chest accusingly, "First of all, I'll have you know that I could take both Potter and Black in a fight on my own if I had to, thank you very much and second," she narrows her eyes, tugging on Barty's tie, "Since when have ever had a fair duel, Mr. Fighting Dirty?"
The smirk on Barty's face turns preditory and his hands squeeze over Lily's soft waist, "Keeping tabs on me, Evans? I feel flattered. Though I suppose that's not uncommen to do with your crush—I'd be lying if I told you I was here for any other reason than you tonight."
"Hm," Lily makes skeptically, "Sweet talker."
Barty shrugs the insult away before zeroing back in on her, "So what are our parameters here?"
Lily simply raises a brow at him.
Barty rolls his eyes overly dramatic, "Merlin, Lils, do you want us to sell this or not? C'mon, sweets, work with me here. Want me to snog your face off in front of him so he'll leave you alone once and for all?"
"Wha— Barty," she exclaims, eyes blitzing and making an excited shiver roll down Barty's spine, "Are you mad?! Nobody is snogging anyone's face off here."
Barty pouts, "Worth a shot."
"Excuse m—"
"Holding hands then?" Barty intervenes, swiping his thumbs over the knobs of Lily's hipbones and watching in satisfaction as her eyelids flutter.
She licks her lips quickly, "Sure."
Barty lets his eyes sweep over the crowd as he gradually pulls Lily in. He stares at a portrait on the opposite wall when he announces, "There he is. A cheek kiss perhaps?"
"Don't test your fucking luck," Lily growls, tough she makes an effort to cross her wrists behind Barty's neck. She starts playing with the short strands at the nape of his neck, even though Potter wouldn't even be able to see that given that he's supposed to be at Lily's back.
"Or maybe a real one after all?" he muses, ducking lower.
Lily's next inhale stutters a little on the intake, her breath spilling warm and humid and smelling like grapes over Barty's mouth. "Thin fucking ice, Crouch."
Barty chuckles softly, "Good thing I'm an excellent swimmer then." And then he closes the distance.

Notre Dame | paris paloma | Part 1 of 2
Word count: 2.7k
Pairing: James Potter x F!Bestfriend Reader
Summary: Hogwarts years | You were James’ best friend since first year. Throughout your years at Hogwarts, you had started to develop a crush on James, but you refused to act on your feelings due to the fact James only ever had eyes for Lily. Now you're sitting at his funeral, reminiscing about the past and you can't help but feel regret and guilt.
Authors note: This is my first fic /one-shot so forgive me if it isn't that great to read, I just found it fun being able to interpret lyrics into stories about characters I love. The story loosely follows the Marauders scenes in the HP movies. I picture James with either a scouse accent or a really chavvy London accent, but you can picture him however you want. I apologise in advance if the tenses get mixed up, the story is made up of the reader looking back on the past and reliving certain moments.
______________________________________________________________
‘I'm in the rafters looking down  It's cold up here  Between walls of stone  I made my home’
The church is cold and dim. Especially in the upstairs seating, which is where you are situated. As you try to listen to the speeches full of childhood memories and happier times, you can't help but lose focus and think about the what-ifs and how things could've gone differently. If you had never met James in that cabin on the way to Hogwarts, you wouldn’t be feeling this pain and heartache, but you also wouldn’t have had such a joyful and exciting time at the school. Hindsight is a funny thing after all. “What if it was me and not Lily? Why wasn’t it me? Why did I have to fall for him?” You wonder what the answers to these questions could be, but the harsh truth is that you never will, and you will live with the never-ending ambiguity until the day you die.
‘And the air hangs heavy with the incense  Feathers fall from pigeons  Cooing in the tower’
Your first year, you remember it all so clearly. You were looking to find a cabin for the journey to Hogwarts, but the majority were filled, and in the rest, there were stone-faced older kids that openly sneered at you anytime you walked past them. Until you found his cabin.
He was the only one in there and you thought that he looked somewhat friendly, so you decided to take a chance. It ended up being one of the best decisions you’ve ever made.
He welcomed you in with a bright smile on his face, despite looking like his face would split with how wide his smile was, he asked you the standard questions, “What's your name? What house d’ya think you'll be in? D’ya want to be mates?” Of course, I wanted to be friends with him, I probably would have been miserable without him in my life but then again, I wouldn’t be so heartbroken now. Hindsight is a funny thing after all.
You can recall the way his eyes gleamed when he introduced himself as James. James. Tears sprung to your eyes, making your surroundings go blurry. You can't help but miss the way he proudly said he was a Gryffindor “where dwell the brave at heart” and how Slytherin was full of “evil prats and I'd rather die than be in Slytherin.” You had always admired his pride and how he never let anything upset him too much or for too long.
That is of course until Lily Evans became more vicious and spiteful in her rejections and jabs. Whenever James was insulted by his “Lilyflower” he let it break down his nonchalant persona and let it cut him deeper than any knife ever could. His Lilyflower. The common factor in all your suffering, you couldn’t blame her of course, it wasn’t her fault that a big oaf like James Potter fell in love with her. But it's not like that fact softened the blow in any way.
You decided to stop that train of thought before you cried even harder. Instead, you choose to remember when the Trolley Lady came to the door and being breath taken at the assortment of sweet treats. Upon looking in your purse which was just a pouch, you’d realised that you didn’t have enough to get the Bertie Botts Every flavour Beans that you would've liked, with disappointment quickly replacing your awestruck expression, you had declined and took to looking out the window instead of having to see the trolley taunting you with all its colours and designs.
That’s when you heard him.
“We’ll take the lot of ‘em” you heard him say and you had insisted that he shouldn’t be wasting his money on you, but he simply drowned out your pleas and focused on the shock of the Trolley Lady. He was always so generous.
After much reluctance and countless Thank you’s, you'd decided to have a few cauldron cakes and indulge in a chocolate frog when a small timid boy opened the compartment door and asked if anyone had seen his toad, he introduced himself as Peter Pettigrew and he ended up sitting with the both of you for the rest of the journey while you had pulled out a book to read and ended up falling asleep with your head leaning on the compartment wall.
‘I rarely go down there, the view's just so beautiful from here  And I can see everybody at their worst points  At their worst points’
You start to remember the moment you openly started looking at James differently. It was the end of third year, and he had just won the quidditch match between Gryffindor and Slytherin after declaring during dinner in the great hall that Gryffindor was 100% going to win and he would “wipe his arse with the slithering bastards”.
You also remember his mumbling and moaning about having to go to detention and you remember him being too busy laying his head on your lap when you both were in your dorm and going to sleep while you read a book.
But there he was on his broom hovering above the crowd that had formed to celebrate the win with him. The noise of screams, chants and shouts reverberated across the entirety of the school grounds. The thought of it making you shiver. While James was practically the same shade as the snitch by how brightly his smile was beaming, you were perfectly content with watching him from the Gryffindor stands and away from the chaos that was the Quidditch pitch.
To this day you can still feel the way your heart skipped a beat when he looked up and smiled at you. At least you thought it was at you. You noticed his wet hair, whether it was because of the rain, him sweating or a combination of both, you didn’t care. His curly dark brown hair that normally looked so fluffy and messy that you just wanted to run your hands through it and make it somewhat tidier.
His arms that made his jersey look to be too tight, it made you picture scenarios with him being able to carry you places when you got too tired, fighting someone who tried to hurt you. You are still quite ashamed to admit the times when you got flustered at the thought of him using them to pin you against a wall and having a heated makeout session in a broom cupboard.
Thoughts aside, you had decided to retire to your dorm for a quick nap. The cold can be very tiring. You gathered your things and stood up only to see Lily Evans, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew sat together directly behind you. You hadn't even noticed them while you watched James previously.
Lily and Peter said hello while Remus only managed an awkward tight-lipped smile. You and Remus didn’t become friends until your seventh year when you both bonded over being unrequited lovers. The reason for this being that you always felt like he could see through you. He knew things about people before they even knew it themselves which always made you paranoid that he could see your feelings for James and tell him, and as a result, ruining the best friendship you ever had. At least I don’t need to be paranoid anymore.
Your mind skipped to fifth year, when you were sitting with the Marauders on a warm sunny day, exams had just ended, and you all were just waiting for the results to be calculated. That’s when you heard the boys get up and walk over to a nearby tree. You looked over and saw a mop of stringy black hair and a pale face with an expression of distaste painted on his face. Snivellous,, the foul git.
You had chosen to stay far back enough that you could still see what happens clearly but ensured you weren't too close as to avoid McGonagall's wrath if she were to show up at the scene.
The next thing you knew was that Snivellous was hanging upside down in mid-air. Levicorpus. You remember coming across the charm in the library with Sirius and James while looking for more spells for future pranks. You never got involved in the pranks because you didn’t fancy sitting in a silent room for an hour for detention or, Merlin forbid, whatever task Filch might've issued you with.
There was always a slight rift between you and Sirius because of your refusal to get involved in pranks, he would never have outwardly said it in front of James or Peter because of their loyalty to you, but he disliked how you would only ever consider helping them if James had asked you. You were the only girl in Hogwarts he couldn’t sway with his charm and good looks. And Merlin did it get him jealous. Not that you had noticed back then at least.
You ended that tangent before it made you spiral down a rabbit hole of confusion. You thought back the past, Snape was being held high by none other than James Potter. His fluffy green Slytherin socks and the sparse leg hair upon his dry ashen legs, were left on display for everyone to see. You had wondered what provoked James into performing such a spell. But your question was left unanswered as your attention had gone to Snape being dropped back onto the ground and Lily Evans being called a “Filthy Mudblood.” by her old childhood best friend.
If anger meant seeing red, then James wasn’t seeing anything but of blind rage. “Don’t you dare call her that word you vile, disgusting creature.” There was an array of insults and cussing until Lily had brought him back to his senses. She told Snivellous to piss off and she waited until he was far enough away to round on James and unleash the anger that had been building inside her for years.
You couldn’t hear what she said due to the fact she had put a silencing charm on the area but based off what James whimpered and whined about while he dreamt in your bed with you for comfort, she had probably said something along the lines of “I would rather kill myself then ever be your girl, Potter.” Hindsight is a funny thing after all. You couldn’t help but feel a pang of your heart at the fact that his soul had latched onto Lily and not you, not even giving you a chance.
That was the night you realised that you would never get the guy. You will forever be condemned to loving James Potter. Your life will continue to be tormented with the possibilities that could've happened, the dreams that made you weep with despair and the everlasting longing and desire slowly encasing your heart until it breaks and shatters. James Potter was the light of your life, but he also caused the darkness that it left behind. James Potter was the sun, but now everything has gone dark.
‘I'm not a sadist, I enjoy just being able to be witness of the loneliness and fear  I abhor in case there isn't one  In case there isn't one’
After that night, after your tragic discovery had become the only thing running through your head. You had pathetically tried to recover the way you saw James before you fell for him. You tried for 2 long years with no luck. He still had your attention and heart, and yet he didn’t realise he had either. So, when the Marauders split for the night, you decided to ask for help.
You were suffocating with the grief and the mourning of what could've been. And you needed someone to help you breathe.
With Peter and Sirius headed to the dorm, James doing his Head-Boy patrols with Lily, it was only you and Remus left in the library, the map and the invisibility cloak set to the side until you both decided to leave. It turns out you didn’t even need to say anything because Remus knew exactly what was going through your head.
He saw the adoration in your eyes when you looked at your best friend, he saw the longing and upset you tried to hide when you heard him constantly talk about marrying Lily and having “Mini Potters” with her. No matter how well you tried, you couldn’t help but subtly display your inner turmoil.
And Remus saw it all.
“You're in love with James, aren't you, I see the way your eyes shine brighter, and your smile gets bigger when he enters the room. But he doesn’t love you back and you know it. I know you know it. And I know you’ve known it for years now. But I know what it's like, it feels like a constant weight on your chest and when they walk in the room, it disappears even if you try to hold it down, but then their presence, their joy, their affection for someone else, drains you, the energy you put in to try make them notice your love just gets brushed away until eventually it leaves you so empty that you become a hollow shell of the person that fell for them all that time ago.”
“I can't tell you how to get rid of it simply because I don’t know how to, but I can offer you some advice that I should've taken before it was too late. Leave, Leave them alone. Leave their life. It'll suck balls for the first while I'm sure but by staying you're degrading yourself. All your insecurities and the suffering you're facing now will pass. This is doomed love sweetheart. You're slowly breaking down. Leave. Before you can't piece yourself together again.”
And with that he leaves the library.
How are you supposed to leave his life? How are you supposed to keep him out of yours? The questions won't stop plaguing your mind, do you take Remus's advice and move on, or do you ignore him and feel your heart pull and crack every time you see him. The choice will be the most difficult one you will ever make and yet it’s the one that needs to be made.
You walk into potions the next day, you thought that it would help make a choice if you avoided him for a day as a trial. Instead of sitting in your normal seat, you walked over and sat beside a Ravenclaw who you believed was called Pandora.
The Marauders walked in and sat at their tables; you avoided James’ gaze when you looked over to you in confusion, but Remus diverted his attention elsewhere. You had inwardly thanked Remus for helping you out.
As the lesson went on everything got worse and your decision became clearer and clearer.
Since the year started, James had started to think twice about the pranks, he acted more mature in general and overall started becoming a man. All of this was for Lily of course. You couldn’t help but ask yourself if he would do the same thing for you if he chose you in the first place.
You were taking notice of all the little things that you're usually too delusional to notice.
How every time he made a joke or laughed; he would glance at Lily. You could feel your heart in your throat.
How he would wink and smirk at her when he got an answer correct. A tear forms in your eye.
How he would look over at her to make sure she understood the topic. Another tear forms.
How he whispers the answer in her ear if she doesn’t know it. Another one
How he shines with pride when Professor Slughorn appraises her. Another.
More tears form until you couldn’t stop them anymore. Thankfully the class was dismissed, and you quickly left before the tears fell and left a salty trail down your cheek. A representation of your life back then. Although in thinking that you can't help but notice that it didn’t get any better. Hindsight is a funny thing after all.

Chapter One
September 2nd, 1976 - First Day of Classes
The air was cold that morning and grey clouds covered the sky, a normal day in the Scottish highlands. Nephara never woke up early, she liked to sleep in, but the anxiety about the first day of classes had practically pulled her out of bed. She walked around her dorm, hoping to avoid waking her other roommates. They snored and murmured in their sleep, and Nephara tried her best not to giggle at the noises. She made her way over to her trunk and rifled through it, pulling out her uniform and some socks. Lily Evans often pestered her about being untidy and unorganized, but Nephara never truly cared enough to change her ways. She waved her wand around and levitated her books into a small book bag, as she shimmed into her uniform. She admired herself in the mirror as she quickly tied her red and gold, Gryffindor tie.
Being sorted into Gryffindor as a child from a prestigious pure-blood family was nearly unheard of. Until both Nephara Castiel and Sirius Black became Gryffindors in their first year, to say Nephara's father was not happy with this outcome, was quite an understatement. He sent her a howler the next day going on and on about how she brought dishonor to her family name. She and Sirius just laughed the whole time.
Sirius Black grew up alongside all the other pure-blood children, including Nephara. They spent the most of their childhoods learning how to become proper pure-bloods. Endless were the days of cotillion and ballroom dancing, both of which Nephara hated. Sirius quite enjoyed the dancing, mostly so he could show off to the other children. After a brief encounter in which Sirius had attempted to jinx Nephara, the two became inseparable. Of course, they were both the targets of each other’s never-ending pranks. After getting sorted into Gryffindor the pair met James Potter, another avid prankster. Slowly, but surely the trio became closer and after some time the trio became a quintet. With Peter Pettigrew and Remus Lupin joining their prankster ways the group was unstoppable.
It was now 6th year, and the group was still as close as ever. Nephara eventually made friends with some of the Gryffindor girls, including Lily Evans. James went absolutely mental when they saw the pair hanging out and accused Nephara of stealing his ‘Lilyflower’. Both Lily and Nephara found this rather amusing and continued to hang out just to tease James.
“Neph, what are you doing up?” A half-asleep Lily sounded from her bed.
“Getting ready,” Nephara whispered as she finished her makeup. Lily mumbled something about it being too early and then fell back asleep. Neph chuckled and quietly made her way out of their dorm. There was nothing she loved more than the Gryffindor common room. Its warm and cozy ambiance was a stark difference from the cold and dark feeling of where she grew up. She walked down the stairs from the girl's dormitory and into the common room to find a rather excited James Potter sitting on the couch with his quidditch gear on.
“Bloody hell, Prongs why are you up so early?” Neph said as she walked over to the boy. James turned to her with a cheeky grin on his face, his glasses slightly foggy.
“First day of school, first day of quidditch practice, pup!” Nephara rolled her eyes, she wasn’t an animagi like the rest of the boys, but they insisted on giving her a nickname all the while. Of course, Sirius was the one who came up with ‘pup’ as he wanted her nickname to be similar to his.
“Is Sirius up yet?” She said trying to change the subject off of quidditch, knowing James could go on and on about it. James shrugged.
“Not sure, he was asleep when I got up but that was about an hour ago.” James stood up and stretched.
“You’ve been up for an hour? It’s only six!” Neph looked at him with a curious look, although she should be used to this by now. James was always a morning person and always will be. He chuckled softly, brushing a hand through his messy dark curls.
“Quidditch, Neph! Quidditch!”
“Yeah, I know.” She rolled her eyes with a huff. “I’ll go get Pads then, he’s supposed to be practicing with you right?”
“Yeah, tell him I’ll be at the pitch waiting,” James said. Nephara nodded and said her goodbyes as James left the common room. With a brisk yawn, Neph started climbing the flight of stairs that led to the boy's dormitory. She knocked on the Maruader's dorm, patiently waiting for a response. After a few seconds, she pulled out her wand, focused it on the door handle, and whispered, “Alohomora.” The lock clicked and she opened the door with ease.
If Lily Evans got ruffled at Nephara’s mess, she would have a heart attack walking into the boy’s dorm. Clothes were strewn across the floor, along with books, parchment, and candy wrappers. Nephara rolled her eyes at the mess and carefully avoided stepping on dirty knickers. From the bathroom, she heard the shower running and assumed it was Remus. He and James were the only ones out of the group who were productive in the morning. She made her way over to Sirius’ bed where he slept soundly. His longer black hair was tousled and he was spread out over the bed. She laughed softly and then swiftly cast a spell.
“Aguamenti.” She said with a flick of her wand. Water poured out and onto the sleeping body of Sirius Black. He screamed and shot up out of bed, causing Peter to stir in his own bed. Sirius’ eyes flickered to the figure above him, who had a cheeky smirk across her face. “Morning, love.” She said with a wink.
“What the fuck, Neph!” Sirius said wiping water out of his eyes. Neph laughed and dried him with a drying spell.
“Prongs told me to come and wake you. You have quidditch practice.” She said walking over to his trunk, where she knew he kept his quidditch gear.
“You could have just shook me.” He said getting up from his bed. He walked over to Nephara and flicked her on the head.
“Oi! Now what fun would that be.” She smirked as she pulled out his quidditch gear. He smiled and grabbed it from her.
“Thanks, pup.” He said with his signature flirty smirk, Neph only rolled her eyes and went to sit back down on his bed as he changed. Nephara knew he was handsome. Every other student at this school knew that, too. She was sure he knew, as well. Hence the cocky ego and constant flirty remarks. But Neph couldn’t understand why watching him shirtless and putting on a Quidditch jersey had made her nervous. That thought got pushed from her head when the bathroom door creaked open and out walked a half-naked Remus Lupin.
Both Sirius’ and Neph’s eyes shot to the boy. Who wouldn’t when Remus walked out in only a towel by his waist, hair dripping wet, and fit as ever? Remus noticed the two staring and furrowed his brows.
“Everything alright?” He asked in his soft voice. After a moment of silence, Sirius laughed and spoke up.
“Moons you look fit,” Sirius smirked and looked over to Neph who just rolled her eyes. She was trying her best to avoid this conversation and whatever feelings get brought up with it. Remus chuckled and grabbed his uniform off his bed.
“Morning Nephie,” Remus said as he made eye contact with the girl. She smiled softly at his use of her nickname.
“Morning Rem,” Remus smiled and made his way back into the bathroom to change. After he left Sirius and Nephara shared a brief look and a laugh. “Does he usually walk out half-naked?” Neph asked as Sirius laced up his trainers. He shrugged.
“Sometimes. I always forget how fit he is,” He winked at Neph and tried to pull his hair up, unsuccessfully. She gestured for him to come over so she could do it. As she pulled his hair up, Sirius couldn’t help but feel relaxed as her hands ran through his hair. “Must be the werewolf in him.” She nodded and finished tying up his hair.
“You should get going, Prongs is waiting for you at the pitch.” Sirius nodded and headed out of the dorm. For a few moments, it was silent in the Marauders dorm. Nephara looked around and took in the feel of the room. She loved spending time up here with the boys, drinking, smoking, or planning pranks. Her eyes traveled to the walls which were covered in quidditch memorabilia and a few playboy posters. Sirius had put them up in third year after finding a stash of them in Filch’s office.
She almost thought she was alone in the room until Peter groaned and got up from his bed. He looked over at Nephara, slightly confused, and then relaxed realizing it was her.
“Morning Neph.” He said, his voice scratchy. Peter was the last one to join their little group. He was quiet when they first met him, and for a while followed Sirius around everywhere. After some work and lots of late-night talks, Peter warmed up to the group and became close with all of them. He often felt overshadowed by the rest of the Marauders as they were all loud and outgoing, but Nephara always reminded him that he was just as talented as they were.
“Morning, Pete.” She said with a soft grin. Remus once again walked out of the bathroom this time, fully clothed. He nodded towards Peter and then focused his attention on Nephara, who still sat on the edge of Sirius’ bed.
“Where’d Pads go?” He asked as he walked closer to the girl.
“Quidditch with James.” She said with a smirk. He chuckled and ruffled her hair. She blushed slightly as he ruffled her hair, she could never get over the butterflies she got when Remus was near her.
“Have another hour-long conversation about quidditch with Prongs?” His chocolate brown eyes stared into hers. She couldn’t help but feel like he was getting a glimpse into her soul.
“I was lucky today,” Nephara said getting up from the bed. He smiled and started walking towards the door of their dorm.
“Breakfast then?” Nephara nodded and from the corner of the room Peter mumbled ‘Wait for me.’
Breakfast at Hogwarts was always lovely. In fact, every meal at Hogwarts was lovely. Nephara’s eyes took in the great hall, still astounded by its size and magnificence six years later. Four long wooden tables stretched down the room, each table for a different house. Platters and platters of food sat in each table's center. Any dish imaginable was there waiting to be eaten. With Peter and Remus next to her, the trio walked over to the Gryffindor table, where Lily and Marlene sat. Nephara sat down next to Marlene stealing a piece of sausage off her plate as she did so.
“OI!” Marlene said as she swatted at Nephara’s hand, but it was too late the food was already in her mouth. Nephara laughed as Marlene flipped her off.
“Stop it both of you,” Lily grumbled as she watched all of it go down. “No stealing, Neph and Marlene no obscenities.” Marlene and Nephara shared a look and started laughing loudly. Lily simply rolled her eyes and turned her attention towards Peter and Remus.
“Morning Lily!” Peter squeaked as he helped himself to a serving of pancakes. Lily smiled and started talking to Peter about what classes they’d have that year. Remus remained silent just taking in the first day of school. He watched as Marlene and Nephara bickered over insignificant things, and as Peter kept eating pancake after pancake.
After a few minutes of peace, the Great Hall doors flew open, and in stepped James Potter and Sirius Black. The pair made their way over to where everyone sat at the Gryffindor table.
As soon as James saw Lily he screeched out a dreadful, “Lilyflower!” Lily groaned and grabbed Marlene by the hand pulling her up and out of the Great Hall. James sat down at the table with a pout and Sirius was just cackling behind him.
“I don’t understand why she doesn’t like me.” He sighed dramatically.
“Maybe because you scream at her,” Remus said with a small smirk on his face. The rest of the marauders laughed. James simply pouted more.
Sirius now sat on the left side of Neph opposite Remus. He threw an arm around her shoulder, as he usually did. Remus rolled his eyes and went back to reading The Daily Prophet. After eating some food, Sirius turned his attention to the girl next to him.
“What class you got next?” He asked Nephara.
“DADA, I think.” She shrugged. Nephara was past the point of caring about school anymore. After five years of hard work and the O.W.L.S. she decided she was done spending hours upon hours doing homework. Sirius groaned.
“Herbology,” He answered with a scoff, “As if I need to know about plants to become an Auror.” Nephara simply laughed at his dramatics.
“You and your hatred for nature.” She smirked. It’s not that Sirius didn’t like nature, he enjoyed spending time outside with his friends, but his only problem was nature didn’t like him. It wasn’t his fault every plant he seemed to touch, shirvelled up and died.
Remus chuckled at the interaction between the two. He was closest to Sirius and Nephara. They had always clicked for some reason or another. They often spent long nights in the astronomy tower smoking and talking. Nephara and Sirius were always there when Remus woke up in the hospital room after a full moon. They loved him, scars and all.
“Moony what class do you have next?” Sirius said while taking a sip from his orange juice.
“DADA with Nephie.” He grinned, knowing it would piss Sirius off.
“No fair.” Sirius groaned. “I can’t believe you guys get to spend time together, without me! While I’m wrist deep in the dirt.”
“Poor Sirius, no one ever gives him enough attention,” Nephara said full of sarcasm. Sirius just simply scoffed, while Remus was dying of laughter.
Breakfast ended and the group of Gryffindors split up and each went to their first class. Nephara and Remus had DADA with the Hufflepuffs. Sirius, Marlene, and Lily had herbology. James and Peter had Charms. Everyone seemed content with their first class of the day, excluding Sirius and his dramatics.
DADA was relatively easy for Neph and Remus. As usual, there was a new DADA teacher this year, and Professor Nightshade greeted her class with an air of authority. Remus and Neph took their seats in the back of the class. The pair pulled out their parchments and textbooks, one eager to learn and the other eager to go back to bed. The first classes of the year are always boring and filled with introductions, revisiting past lessons, and going over the materials for the semester. DADA finally finished and Remus and Nephara started the long trek to the Potions classroom.
Nephara never liked the dungeons, and as she walked through them she thought about how if she was placed in Slytherin her first year, she would walk these dungeons all day, every day. Remus noticed the uncomfortable demeanor right away, as he had a knack for picking up on people’s emotions.
“You okay, Nephie?” He asked softly as the two continued walking.
“It’s so sticky down here.” She shuddered, “Like there’s no fresh air, you know?” Remus nodded in agreement. He too found the dungeons stuffy and claustrophobic. Most students did, which is why the dungeon hallways were always empty. It was an eerie thing to walk through them at night, and both Gryffindors were thankful they never had to.
Sirius was already in the potions classroom flirting with some Ravenclaw when Remus and Nephara walked in. He gave the girl a quick wink and sauntered over to his two best friends. Nephara looked around the room with a scoff.
“I can’t believe we have potions with the Slytherins.” The boys nodded in agreement. It wasn’t that Nephara disliked Slytherins she was friends with a few. There were just a handful of Slytherins, namely the pure-blooded ones she grew up with, that irked her.
“If it isn’t Black and his little girlfriend.” A rather annoying voice spoke up from behind the trio. They all internally groaned as they turned around to be face-to-face with Evan Rosier and Barty Crouch Jr. After an incident involving Nephara being highly intoxicated and making out with Rosier's girlfriend at a party, the poor bloke never seemed to get over it. In turn, Evan was rather jealous and cruel anytime he saw her.
“What do you want, Rosier?” Sirius spat as if speaking his name left a horrible taste in his mouth. Seeing Nephara make out with Evan Rosier’s girlfriend had been a right shock to everyone, including Sirius Black. For awhile he couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that his dear sweet Neph made out with someone. Remus hardly cared what Nephara did on her own time, but he too hated Rosier for his attempts to humiliate one of his best friends.
“Just wanted to see how the blood traitors were doing,” Evan said with a chuckle. Remus knew this would instantly set off Sirius and Nephara so he quickly grabbed them by the arms and pulled them away from the scene. A flurry of ‘Moons’ and ‘Rems’ came from the pair as they were being dragged away.
“Come on Moony why’d you go and have to do that?” Sirius said leaning up against a table, crossing his arms. Neph followed his stance.
“Yeah, Moons.” She said her eyebrows furrowed. Remus rolled his eyes, he was practically babysitting two children.
“Because you two would have hexed him and got detention.” He said firmly. Sirius and Nephara both scoffed, knowing he was right. He was always right.
September 2nd, 1976 - Potions
Potions had always been Nephara’s favorite subject, she enjoyed the long hours of meticulously chopping and stirring. Everything had to be perfect or the potion would fail, and she loved that. For a long time getting the highest marks in all her classes was her only sense of pride and fulfillment. Now though she seemed to have lost her spark for her education. Perhaps it was because she knew it was coming to an end or maybe she just didn’t care. The only exception to the complete lack of effort was potions.
She stood hunched over her brewing table, not paying attention to the lecture Professor Slughorn was in the middle of. Her thoughts lingered on this morning, the uneasiness she felt when Sirius or Remus got close to her. She thought her brain simply didn’t want to be friends with them anymore. Nephara had always struggled with relationships. Of course, now she had close friends, but it didn’t always used to be that way.
Growing up in a household with emotionally absent parents, made her not understand the depth of her feelings and the intimacy one can have with other people. In primary school she watched the other children play games at recess. She watched as they became friends, as they grew close. She truly never understood why anyone would want that, in her developing mind she believed that she was the only person she could rely on.
Her eyes glanced over to Sirius who was playing with his quill. He was focused on it as he twirled it between his fingers. His fingers were adorned with many rings, most from Nephara. Her mind drifted toward the start of her relationship with Sirius. When they first met at a pure-blood event, one Nephara did not care enough to remember, she had hated him. He was loud, pompous, and just annoying. He would often play tricks on other kids, small jinxes here and there. He never dared prank Nephara though, he and all the other children avoided her entirely. Nephara never understood why this was, and she honestly never cared. Having friends was of no importance to her, making top marks and impressing her parents was her only goal. Until Sirius decided to finally prank her.
June 1970
Sirius found himself wandering around the Black Manor gardens. His parents had important guests over that night and he was told to stay away from them. The moon was full that night and the stars shone brightly. He sat on the grass looking up into the sky, trying to remember where his constellation was, and where his younger brother’s star was. That was until he heard the garden doors open.
Nephara was snooping. She had been told to play with Regulus, but she found that to be an abysmal idea, so instead she was exploring every nook and cranny of the Black Manor. Eventually, she found her way to the gardens. She thought they were lovely, but not as lovely as her family's garden. She made her way to the grass when she heard giggling coming from a bush.
Sirius was in the bush, waiting for the perfect opportunity to use a new jinx he learned. He chuckled to himself as he pictured Nephara Castiel with bright red hair. Unfortunately, Sirius was not as good at sneaking around as he was now.
“Why are you in a bush?” Nephara asked him.
“Uh I’m not in a bush,” Sirius replied from the bush. Nephara scoffed, unamused by this boy’s antics.
“Do you think I’m daft?” She reached her hand in the bush and rather aggressively pulled out Sirius.
“Oi!” He protested as her hands firmly grasped his wrist. She let go and Sirius dusted himself off with a fowl look on his face. “You’ve ruined it!”
“Ruined what?” She asked. He then smirked as he realized the bush truly had no key part in his plan.
“Colorvaria!” He said. Nothing happened. Nephara’s eyes widened and she started laughing. “What! What is it!” Sirius asked her confused by her sudden fit of giggles.
“Your hair! It’s red!” Sirius practically fainted. His hands ran through his hair frantically, trying to understand what went wrong with his spell. “You said it wrong.”
“What?” Sirius said still in shock that his hair was bright red instead of hers.
“The spell, it’s colovaria, not color varia.”
September 2nd, 1976 - Potions
Nephara chuckled to herself as she remembered the foolishness that went down on that day. Sirius looked at her confused.
“What’s so funny, pup?” He whispered, making sure Professor Slughorn wouldn’t hear him. Remus then shot the two a fierce glare, silently warning them to stop talking.
Neph ignored Remus and said quietly to Sirius, “Just remembering when we became friends.” Sirius grinned ear to ear, that memory was truly fond to him, and he often liked to look back upon it.
“The only time one of my pranks failed.” He said dramatically putting his hand over his heart. Nephara rolled her eyes, a constant occurrence when you’re friends with Sirius Black.
“Could you lot please shut up,” Remus whispered aggressively to the pair. Unluckily for the trio Professor Slughorn picked up on this conversation, and was now at his wit’s end. There was nothing more he hated than talking during his lectures.
“Miss Castiel, Mr. Lupin, and Mr. Black!” The professor said storming over to their table. The three froze and directed their attention towards their professor.
“Yes, Professor?” Nephara asked innocently, knowing that if anyone was to get out of punishment it was her. Sirius scoffed at this ‘innocent’ ploy, which subsequently earned him a nudge in the side.
“Was your conversation so important that you had to interrupt my lecture?” Professor Slughorn asked looking between the trio.
“In fact it was Professor!” Sirius spoke up. Remus and Nephara both groaned at Sirius's comment, knowing it would surely end up with them all getting detention on their first day.
“Detention! All of you!” He said and then stormed off to continue his lecture.
At lunch, Neph had opted to sit next to Remus as she was furious with Sirius for getting them all detention on their first day. James and Peter were talking about how their first classes went, and who was in them. James was especially excited when he found out Lily was in his DADA class.
“And then Lily walked in, and I swear my heart stopped!” James said throwing his hands over his heart. Peter snorted.
“You're leaving out the part where she told you to bugger off,” Peter said, picking up some food from his plate.
“She might have said that, but she would never truly mean it,” James responded in a way that made him sound like he thought he knew about Lily’s true intentions. Sirius just slapped James on the back playfully, while completely egging him on in his delusions.
Across the table, Remus and Neph were talking about their upcoming detention. Remus mentioned something about the last time he and Sirius got detention and how it ended up with them being stuck in the trophy room for two hours cleaning trophies.
“I can’t believe him! Purposely sassing Professor Slughorn, fully knowing it would get us all in trouble.” Neph said as she viciously stabbed her salad. Remus looked at her salad and felt a moment of pity for it.
“Promise me you won’t attack him like you're attacking your salad?” He said with a soft chuckle.
“I will make no such promises, Rem.” Remus smiled at her, simply amused, “Besides he needs to know I won’t put up with him dragging us into his self-centered bullshit this year like he did last year!” Remus frowned slightly, remembering the incident Nephara had mentioned. Neph noticed the look on his face, and guilt washed over her. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have brought that up.” She said avoiding eye contact with Remus.
His scarred hand found its way to Nephara’s shoulder. The touch jerked Neph out of her head, and into the spot where his hand lay. It was comforting, Remus was always comforting.“It’s okay.” he said, his voice soft. She looked up at him, he had a stupid grin on his face. Her eyebrows furrowed.
“And what exactly is so funny to you, Moons?” She huffed.
“It’s cute when you get all in your head about something that’s not important.” He said softly, his hand still resting on her shoulder. Neph tried to ignore how he called her cute, and focus on the part where he said the incident wasn’t important.
“Rem, it was a big deal though.” He sighed.
“I know, I just meant you don’t need to worry about bringing it up and upsetting me. That’s not a big deal.” His hand that was resting on her shoulder, picked up a loose strand of hair and twirled it lightly between his fingers. Remus wasn’t fully aware of what he was doing, but Nephara was. It was strange, if any of her other friends randomly started playing with her hair she would probably freak out, but not Remus. She stared into his brown eyes and the scar that went down his face.
From across the table, Sirius was fuming. He watched as Remus played with Neph’s hair, and how she didn’t seem to mind. He wasn’t sure where this anger was coming from, he loved Neph and Remus, but he couldn’t help but feel left out.
“Pads?” James said as he slightly nudged Sirius. Sirius turned his head towards James. His face was confused and still visibly upset after watching Nephara and Remus. “Did you hear what I said, mate?”
“No, sorry,” Sirius said quickly. James chuckled and repeated what he said. Sirius put on his usual facade of being content and charming, hoping that it would push out the odd feelings of jealousy that had arisen earlier.
September 7th, 1976 - noon
The library was empty that day, except for a group of 6th years who were delving deep into the intricacies of their latest read. Hanging out with Sirius constantly can become a little draining, so finding a way to balance out this perpetual source of energy, Nephara’s Saturday mornings were spent cozied up in the library discussing books with  Lily and Remus. Their current book was a fascinating insight into the beginnings of philosophy in the ancient world. Nephara found herself craving mental stimulation and intellectual conversations, which thankfully Lily and Remus were more than capable of providing for her.
They sat in a circle of sorts in the corner of the library. Lily had opted for a comfy chair, while Neph and Remus sat across from her on an old leather couch. The library had to be one of Nephara’s favorite places in the castle. It smelled of old parchment and spilled ink. Any and every book from Wizard kind could be found in the Hogwarts Library. She often found herself sneaking in late at night to borrow a book or two from the restricted section. Permitting Peeves was in a good mood. With the book in her lap, and her hands wrapped around a warm cup of tea, Nephara felt at peace. She listened as Lily rambled about Marcus Aurelius and his meditations.
Remus wasn’t listening to Lily, all his focus was on Nephara and how content she looked. He remembered when they were younger and Nephara was always on edge. She was always doing something, busying her mind, never once relaxing. Classes, homework, studying, prank planning. It never ended, and he often worried for her.
Today seemed better though, her mind seemed at ease. He watched her subtle movements and today they seemed peaceful. Her breath seemed slow and her body relaxed. Remus relished in this part of his Lycanthropy, being able to notice the small changes in mood or behavior greatly helped him to become closer with his friends. He learned their signs and he learned what to do when they appeared.
Nephara sat her cup down and brought her legs up to her chest. Something Remus noticed she only did when she was completely enthralled by something. Most often this would be books or muggle music, but sometimes it was with him. He noticed how when he talked about his passions she always listened, she more than listened, she was utterly engrossed by him.
“Rem?” Nephara said, and Remus noticed both her and Lily were staring at him. He chuckled nervously and ran a hand through his hair.
“Sorry, what was that?” He asked, hoping neither Neph nor Lily noticed what was distracting him.
“I was wondering if you wanted to come to Hogsmeade with Marlene, Peter, and me,” Lily asked him while putting away her books. Remus shook his head with a soft smile
“Thanks, but I was thinking of staying indoors today.” Lily nodded and left the group, to join Marlene and Peter. The silence between Nephara and Remus was often, and comforting. It was something they were used to by now, something they looked forward to. Nephara yawned and rested her head on Remus’s shoulder.
“Are you sleepy, pup?” He said with a soft chuckle.
“A little.” Nephara sighed. “But Sirius and James are waiting for us.” Remus wanted so desperately to just spend the entire day with Nephara in the library. Although he’d never tell her that, so he sighed and gently pushed her head off his shoulder. He got up from the couch, offered a hand, and hoisted her up.
September 7th, 1976 - half past noon
James and Sirius sat in the Gryffindor common room satisfied with their work. After a couple of hours of decorating and rearranging, the two had turned the common room into the perfect place for their annual back-to-school party. They turned their heads as the portrait to the common room swung open and in walked Neph and Remus. Nephara’s eyes lit up as she took in the work the boys had done.
“Pads, Prongs it looks amazing!” She said walking over to the boys. Sirius got up and wrapped his arm around her shoulder.
“Of course it does!” He said with a smirk across his face. James and Nephara laughed while Remus just shook his head. James showed Neph all the things he had set up for the party, and Remus, and Sirius sat down on the couch.
Remus watched Sirius as he watched Nephara, he seemed completely entranced by her. It reminded him of himself just moments ago in the library. He could tell her loved her, but more importantly, he could tell that Sirius was in love with her. Remus surmised that he was the only one aware of this, he was sure not even Sirius could understand the depth of his emotions towards the girl.
“You’re staring,” Remus said quietly to Sirius. Sirius turned to look at him with a small smirk on his face.
“What mate?” He said with a soft chuckle. Remus chuckled and patted Sirius on the back.
“You’re watching, Neph, mate.” He said, his hand not leaving Sirius’s back. Sirius scrunched his face.
“So?” Remus only chuckled in response. Sirius scoffed, after putting Remus’s vague words together, “It’s not like that.” He subconsciously leaned back into Remus’s touch. “I mean, she’s great. Don’t get me wrong. She’s just Neph, mate,” He paused, his eyes darting back to the girl, who was now wrapping James up in streamers. “Even if I did, which I don’t, she’s closed off in that way. Romantically.”
Remus nodded, he knew what Sirius meant. Nephara had never once been in a romantic relationship, at least not one that required genuine emotional vulnerability. She had flings here and there, hookups mostly. Neph told Remus a lot about her sexual escapades, but never once did she mention having romantic feelings for them.
“She’s just like you in that way.” He said his voice growing somber as he spoke. Sirius nodded in agreement.
“She is.” He said with a chuckle. The conversation quickly ended when Nephara helped a streamer mummy that was previously James waddle over to the pair.
“I’m a mummy!” James mumbled underneath a copious amount of red streamers.
“I was thinking of just leaving him like this, ought to help with the incessant need to talk about Lily.” Nephara joked and James muttered a few choice curse words. Remus and Sirius laughed and agreed with Neph.
“Wormy’s getting the drinks while he's in Hogsmeade, right?” Sirius said as Remus’s arm was still around the back of the couch, slightly touching his shoulder. Neph nodded as she helped unravel James from the streamers.
“That’s what he told me this morning.” Her eyes flickered over to Sirius and Remus on the couch, who were close together, but in the end, she thought nothing of it. She too was touchy with both boys.
“Seems everything is ready then,” James said, now free from the confines of red streamers. “I think I’ll head to the prefect bathroom and take a bath.” James was not a prefect, far from it actually. Lily and Remus had been chosen as Gryffindor’s prefects this year. Remus being the generous friend he is, told the marauders the password to the pristine bathrooms at the start of term.
Neph and the remaining boys said their goodbyes to James as he walked through the fat ladies’ portrait and out of the Gryffindor common room. Feeling slightly left out Nephara decided to nudge herself between the two boys on the couch. Neither of which had any complaints.
“Aww did you miss me pup?” Sirius said as she sat in between him and Remus. Neph scoffed.
“Hardly, I miss my precious Moony.” She said overdramatically. Remus laughed and ruffled the girl's hair with the arm that was touching Sirius’s shoulders. Sirius rolled his eyes in response.
“Jealous, Pads?” Remus said with a wink. Sirius was jealous, he knew that much. He was unsure exactly what he was jealous about though. Was it Nephara calling Remus precious, or the way Remus’s arm left his shoulder to touch Neph? It was all so confusing, and he honestly had no clue what to make of any of it. Remus being the sensitive wizard he was, picked up on the change in Sirius’s emotions. He noticed how he went from being playful to feeling bitter about something, he assumed it was about Nephara.
Neph was oblivious to this silent exchange and was just enjoying time with her best friends. She felt safe between them, and honestly never wanted to leave either of their sides. The three sat in the empty common room in comfortable silence. Most students were at Hogsmeade or spending time roaming the castle, it was nice to have the common room all to themselves. Nephara looked and Remus and then at Sirius and smiled at both of them.
“I love James and Peter, but I like it when it’s just us sometimes.” She spoke softly, her hand absentmindedly going to fiddle with the rings on Sirius's fingers, the rings she had bought him. Sirius smiled at the soft touch she was giving him.
“Why’s that, Nephie?” Remus asked, his long arm still stretched around the back of the couch, his fingers once again finding their way into Nephara’s hair. She contemplated this question. Sirius smiled when he saw that look in her eyes, the look she only gets when she’s truly focusing on something. He made eye contact with Remus who was noticing the same thing, and the two shared a smirk.
“In a way it’s always calm. Even when it isn’t, it is. I think mostly because you even us out, Rem.” She said, and Remus smiled.
“She’s right Moony, you cancel out our energy with your calmness.” Sirius chuckled softly. Remus did everything in his power not to blush on the spot, there’s nothing more he loved than feeling appreciated by his two closest friends.
September 15th, 1976 - Slytherin Common Room - 6 PM
The Slytherin Commons were incomparable to any other houses. The dungeons provided a sense of exclusion and mystique that correlated with the Slytherin aesthetic. The common room was large, made completely out of stone, and located underneath Hogwarts. It was decorated head to toe in elegant and expensive furniture, with large windows providing views directly into the murky black lake.
Regulus Black sat on a fine leather couch talking to Evan Rosier. He found Evan dimwitted and rather dull, but who else was he supposed to converse with? Barty Crouch Jr? Certainly not. Avery, Mucilber? They were bigger fools than Rosier and Crouch combined. Unfortunately, Slytherin was lacking in sophisticated pure-bloods, and as each year passed their ranks filled up with more and more muggle-born students.
Then there was Severus Snape, perhaps one of the only intelligent people in Slytherin, besides Regulus. However, he found Snape to be a sad excuse for a man with his capabilities. Regulus thought how pitiful it was to be Snape, being ridiculed by Gryffindors, and then having his one friend taken away because of James Potter’s bullying. Perhaps he would make a good servant, someone loyal, who had a known hatred for blood-traitors like James Potter.
“What do you think about Snape?” Regulus asked Evan, quickly interrupting whatever the boy was talking about. Evan’s eyes shot over to Snape and then back to Regulus’s.
“Why?” He scoffed, almost disgusted that Regulus would ask such a question.
“He’s smart, and could prove useful,” Regulus spoke in his usual air of confidence. Of course, it was hard not to be confident when you were surrounded by people like these. Evan shrugged.
“He’s..just hard to look at.” Evan shuddered, “But, I suppose that doesn’t matter. I’ll send a letter to my father and see what he says. You’ll have to vouch for him, Black. Are you capable of taking all responsibilities for him?” Regulus contemplated for a moment, he saw no reason why Snape wouldn’t want to join. He lacked power, something the Dark Lord could provide. Regulus felt Snape might be someone who craved the fear or respect of others, especially those who wronged him. Those like his brother and James Potter.
“Yes.”

James quoting shakespear to Lily <3
James standing on a common room table half drunk during a gryffindor party: “My Lilypad!
*Lily in a corner talking to Mary, her face scarlet, matching her hair.*
James: “Where art thou my Lilyflower?”
*Lily facepalms while Mary snickers.*
James: “But soft!” *Stumbles on the table. His glass of firewhisky tipping slightly.* “What light through yonder window breaks?”
*Crowd cheering*
*Marauders laughing while urging James to continue*
Lily: *Peeking through her fingers.*
James: “It is the East, and Lilyflower is the sun!”
Mary laughing: “Did James Potter, pureblood gryffindor just quote muggle literature for you?”
Lily: *Groans.* "Toerag."
Unknown to Mary a small smile was unfurling onto Lily’s lips. However much Lily would later deny, the butterflies she felt in her stomach when James looked at her that night were like fireworks <3

OK BUT JAMES AND LILY
So recently it was brought to my attention that Lily MF Evans would absolutely  not have ended up with James if he was as much of a stalker as he is made out to be. The whole ‘he asked her out ever time he saw her for 6 YEARS’ is just like so creepy and, again, Lily would NEVER be ok with that, never mind the fact that she would ever date him.
So, here’s what i think SHOULD have happened
When James is 11 he has a sort of 'puppy crush' on Lily, like one of those crushes that is just cute and innocent and really not that deep. James has grown up seeing the love his parents have for each other, so of course James decides he has to ask her out.
Lily, of course, says no because they didn't even know each other! But James Potter (with a huge competitive streak and an obliviousness that comes from being 11) took this as a challenge and kept asking lily out repeatedly until she says yes. All of his sayings like ‘oi Evans’ and ‘lilyflower’ can be heard everywhere around the castle. After a week, Lily became absolutely fed up with this behavior and she tells McGonagall because she felt disgustingly violated.
Then McGonagall, who is (understandably) very cross with James, takes it upon herself to lecture him on just what he's doing and why its nowhere near acceptable. She even calls in Euphemia, who was even more cross with James, to have a very long talk about boundaries together.
James comes out of that talk and he immediately goes to apologize to lily, telling her that he will keep his distance because it’s right thing to do after disrespecting/violating her like that. It takes him a few weeks to truly process what his mom and McGonagall told him when he does it gives James a reality check, and he realizes that he is most definitely not the center of the world. And, in doing so he realized the rag tag group of dorm mates he has all are in need of support (so of course, James MF Potter, becomes the mom of the marauders from that day forward.)
James’ crush for Lily went away, so he was never possessive of her and he didn't harass her for six year. Instead her respected her boundaries so they could eventually form a strong friendship with her. James Potter got to date other people, he had his first kiss, and fell in love twice with someone who wasn't Lily. And that is what is so perfect about this, because its so /healthy/ for someone his age, especially in contrast to him being an over-obsessive little shit. Lily got to experience dating without James as a constant nag on her back, she got to grow as a person with each relationship. Without James harassing her constantly, Lily was so much more secure in herself then she would have been (especially if you account for all of the Severus V James problems that will ever happen.) James’ decision to grow up that quick did both of them so much good, they got to build a strong friendship first and foremost. ( Also It helped to join the Marauders + Lily, Mary, Marlene, and Dorcas together faster and with less tension/fights)
So when, in sixth year James Potter realized that not only did his crush on Lily come back, but that he was deeply in love with her, he was terrified. Because what if he screws it their friendship that he worked so hard on or violates Lily’s boundaries again? He was just so convinced that something would go wrong so this time he did it the complete opposite of what he did when he realized he had a crush last time. He didn’t say /anything/ to Lily. It took 8 months of talking the marauders heads off about lily for anything to happen.
The marauders had so many conversations convincing him to talk to Evans and that no, they promise he won't come off as a stalker if he asks her out. Pete tells him how mature he must be to be the caretaker and mother of the group, Remus reminds him about how much he has matured and become aware of the people and world around him. And Sirius (in his very Sirius fashion) tells James that he thinks Lily looks at him the same way he looks at her. So in September of 7th year James Potter asked out lily Evans for the last time ( and after a long talk involving boundaries, apologies, exasperation, confessions, and promises)
Lily says yes

Happy friendversary
I had this headcannon about Lily and the Marauders. Of course James kept count of the number of days they’d been friends for and decided to throw a party.
"Lily-flower!" shouted the loud voice of Sirius Black.
Lily Evans, now in her sixth year turned to look towards the side from where Sirius was now shouting out her name. Over the last few months, Lily had become quite good friends with the Marauders and that meant that she had to deal with the constant pestering of the four boys. Not that she minded it and not that they were seriously annoying but right now, when she had to finish off her Transfiguration homework, well.
"Come on, come on," he urged, a wide smile plastered across his face as he hurried across the library towards her. "We've really got to be back in the Tower now!"
"Mr Black!" screamed Madam Pince. "I banned you from the library a few years back. You ARE NOT to be here!"
"Now, now Irma," said Sirius swiftly pushing out his hair from his eyes casually putting an arm over the librarian's shoulder. "I remember that very differently. Wasn't it me who decided to never get in this place? You were so disappointed that day, don't tell me you don't remember how much you missed me."
At this, a few fifth-years that were nearby giggled and Sirius looked highly pleased with himself. Realising that staying in here would cause more damage than asked for, Lily quickly put all her books and parchment into her bag and muttered a quick sorry to Madam Pince who looked too flabbergasted to even speak, Lily was out and on her way to Gryffindor Tower with an overly excited Sirius Black by her side.
"We're having a party today," he said simply as though it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"And what have we done?" asked Lily pointedly. "To grace ourselves with a party, I mean."
"You don't need a reason to party," said Sirius looking at her incredulously. "Honestly, Lily-flower, you're one daft witch."
"You're not calling me that," she said sternly trying to keep the smile off her face.
"You can smile you know," said Sirius creating silver sparks from his wand and meaninglessly twirling it about. "I know you love me."
"Oh yes I do," said Lily sarcastically. "I can't see how I'll live without you."
"Aww," said Sirius mockingly. "I'm not James. I'm Sirius."
"What?" she managed to croak. What was this boy on about?
"You heard me," he said mischievously looking at his with wiggling eyebrows. "I'm not James. I'm Sirius."
"I have no idea what that is supposed to mean," she muttered praying to God that she wasn't blushing or anything but then again maybe she was. That would explain the sudden heat she felt in her cheeks.
Sirius simply laughed. It was a free sort of a laugh. A genuinely happy laugh.
"Some word," he said loudly.
"Huh?" Lily found herself asking.
"The password Lily," said Sirius with mock reassurance. "The password."
As Lily climbed up the entrance, she saw it first faintly, a mere glimpse and then it was clear. A huge table was drawn up to the centre of the Common Room and there were banners all around. Before she could notice what the banners were, her eyes fell on the one she was least looking forward to seeing, especially after her failed attempt at a conversation with Sirius. James was there. Well, of course he was. Any party, he's always there. Her eyes quickly did a scan and she noticed that Remus, Peter, her friends Marlene, Alice and Mary were also there, wide grins plastered across their face. On the table was a huge cake with charms she couldn't quite make out from this far.
"Impressed?" said an all too familiar voice, breaking her out from her mid-day trance.
"We had a Quidditch match?" she asked dumbly. Of course they didn't.
"Umm no," said James and when Lily looked up at him, well, he looked hurt almost.
The Common Room was now suddenly silent and Lily realised that she hadn't made out how noisy it had been until now. The sole occupants of the Common Room were just her friends. Everybody else were either out for an evening stroll, early lunch or just hanging out with their friends. Empty Common Room on a party day?
"You don't remember what day it is today, do you?" accused Sirius from beside her.
Lily felt herself wince inwardly. Was it one of their birthdays? No, that could not be, she wasn't that cruel to forget any one of their birthdays.
"Am I missing something?" she asked awkwardly and tried to look straight at her friends' eyes which was very hard to do with their glaring and all. There was only silence.
"It's someone's birthday?" she offered hopelessly after no one said anything. She looked towards James for some help, he however, had his head turned away from her.
"Peter," she said hopefully. "What day is it?"
"Uh," he stuttered and began fiddling with his watch. "Friday."
"I'm really sorry," began Lily. "I'm not that very good at remembering important dates, come on, Mary you know that better than anyone else. I'm really sorry if it was someone's birthday and I didn't remember. Although I am sure no one's having their birthdays anytime soon but I'm not too sure and-"
This was all it took and everyone burst into a fit of laughter. A stupid prank. Before she could get angry and give them all a sound scolding, she was being pulled towards the centre of the Common Room, towards the table.
"It's our seven month friendversary!" said Sirius still laughing soundly as he hugged her. "Didn't expect you to remember that."
"Oh," said Lily grinning. "I didn't know you count all of that."
"We don't," said Remus with a smile as he cut the cake into pieces. "James does."
"I don't sit and count the number of days we've all been friends for," James said a slight blush creeping across his cheeks. "I just happened to -"
But whatever he was about to say, he had been interrupted by Sirius shoving a particularly large piece of cake into his mouth and nicely around his mouth. Lily joined the others laughing and fed Marlene some cake.
"I'm so glad we're friends with this lot," said Marlene laughing as she placed some cake into Lily's mouth.
"Entertainment, surely they are," agreed Alice.
Humming and nodding to agree with her friends, Lily quickly fed Mary, Remus and Peter followed by a hug each. She turned to grab one piece of cake and moved towards James. Gathering all the courage she had and keeping her face as flippant as she could, she simply fed him a piece of cake and gave him a hug and a quick peck on the cheek. Not wanting to look as flustered as she was, she simply fed a grinning Sirius a piece of cake.
"Evans," said James exasperatedly as he sat down opposite to her. "You're going to be the death of me."
Lily could only laugh.
"Happy friendversary."

"are we sure they're dead?" you heard an unknown male voice.
"i hope not." now, it was a woman. "but we literally saw them getting hit by the killing curse. . ."
"come on, y/n, wake up."
familiar voice.
sirius.
oh.
"shit," you groaned, opening your eyes. "i'm dead."
"hello, sweetheart," said a ginger-haired woman as she held out her hand. you grabbed it and in a moment, you were on your feet again.
"mrs potter," you gasped and began to look around. "mr potter, sirius. . . remus! and, oh god, dora!"
tonks awkwardly waved. "nice to see you, y/n."
your eyes then landed on two women, you surely have seen somewhere. one of them was blonde as a sad smiled danced on her lips. the other one was dark skinned, a worried expression was on her face as she held the blonde's hand. they were both equally beautiful.
"i'm dorcas meadowes and this is–"
"marlene mckinnon," you cut the dark skinned woman off, shaking their hands. "yes, i know. someone showed me an old photo of the order of the phoenix during the first wizarding war." you then shook james and lily potter's hands. "nice to meet you, harry's parents, but i wish it was under different circumstances. . ." both of them nodded and offered you a smile, which you returned.
you looked at your unconsious body, biting the inside of your cheek. your y/e/c eyes that were normally bright and full joy, were now emotionless and cold. you breathed shakily and chuckled nervously. "er– well, that's. . . nice. . ." you paused, thinking of your next words. "do you think someone will be kind enough to close my eyes? it's quite scary."
as if on call, your best friends, hermione granger and ron weasley ran to your corpse. you waited for their reaction. hermione reacted immediately. she dropped on her knees and let out a scream, you could feel the pain in her voice, causing your heart to ache. it took a few seconds for ron to react. for a moment, he just stared at you, gulping as few tears escaped his eyes. he then got on his knees next to hermione, and wrapped his arm around her shoulder, trying to calm both herself and himself down. the bushy-haired bent down to kiss your forehead and with a help of her hand, she closed your eyes, whispering some words you couldn't hear, but you gussed it was something like "please, wake up," or "i'm sorry," or "i'm gonna miss you," or "i love you,".
you didn't realize that tears were streaming down your face like a waterfall until you sirius brought you into a warm embrace, that was very much needed for you at the moment.
you pulled away, wiped your tears and tilted your head to your body. "does– does harry know?"
remus was the first one to answer. he pursed his lips into a thin line and shook his head.
"and is he okay? is he still alive?" you asked.
"none of us can answer to that, i'm sorry," said dorcas. "you and harry seperated, which you shouldn't have done, and we debetated who should we follow. and, well, as you now know, we decided to follow you."
"it then began to be quite funny, though," said fred. it surprised you, because you didn't know he died as well. "marlene here thought she could help you if she kicks that death eater between his legs. when she realized, we told her that multiple times, that she can't injure him, she began to swear. let me tell you, i have never heard those words mckinnon shouted in my entire life."
you couldn't help but to laugh and then hugged fred tightly.
"well, in my defense," began marlene, "i learned those words from none other than lilyflower. when she hated james, she called him even worse. i just repeated those i remembered."
"and then she began to love him," continued dorcas as blush could be seen on lily's pale cheeks. "in sixth year. other than lily, me, marlene and remus were the only ones, who knew."
"you knew?!" exclaimed james, looking at his friend and disbelief. "and you didn't tell me anything?"
"in my defense, you pissed me off so much by stealing my chocolate, so i thought that this was the perfect revenge."
"hold on, hold on," james gestured for remus to stop talking. "moony, i have never stolen your chocolate."
"but sirius said. . ." remus paused. "pads?"
"y-yeah?" stuttered sirius, already knowing what was about to happen.
"run."
and so remus began to chase sirius, who seemed to be making his way to the forbidden forest. you all followed them as you laughed. you walked alongside harry's parents so you decided just to chat with them.
"so, since your death," you tried to sound as politely as possible, "you've been watching harry and all of us?"
"yes." james and lily nodded, confirming your thought.
"oh." you bit your lower lip. "so you saw even–"
"oh, godric, no!" harry's mom cut you off with a nervous smile. "we always went somewhere else, mostly to hermione, ron or both, when we saw that things got a little bit heated."
you bursted into a laughter before you quiet yourself down as you spotted the love of your life, also walking to the forest.
"where the fuck is he going? is he out of his mind?" you said worriedly. "he knows voldemort wants him there so why on the earth would he go there?!"
tonks put her hand on your shoulder and squeezed it. "i think," she said, "that harry may will be joining us in a moment. . . ."
at that moment, you weren't sure if you want him to be with you and his parents or be alive, living his life to the fullest. but you knew that without you, he will not be trully happy for a while. he always dreamt about being an auror and you always supported him in that, hoping that one day, his dreams will come true.
you ran to him and followed him.
harry closed his eyes and turned a black stone, which you realized was the ressurection stone, over in his hand three times.
remus, sirius, lily and james were around you.
"you’ve been so brave," said lily with that kind smile of hers.
harry could not speak as his eyes feasted on her.
"you are nearly there," said james. "very close. we are . . . so proud of you."
"does it hurt?"
"dying? not at all," chuckled sirius. "quicker and easier than falling asleep."
"for example, i didn't even realize it," you said.
"y/n?" he asked with a frown. "but what are you doing here? you should be at the castle." you gave him that look that said everything. "no. no. no."
"listen, harry," you whispered, your voice almost at the edge of breaking. "we didn't have enough time for me to tell you everything. . . so that's why i wrote a letter for you. and also for ron and hermione."
"i'm so sorry. i thought i could protect you," your boyfriend croaked.
"harry," you said softly, moving closer to him, "this is not your fault at all, alright? we are still in a war and. . . well, you can never be sure if the people you love will make it out alive. you can find these letters at andromeda's. i need for you to not be hard on yourself or blaming yourself, yeah? my death is not your fault unless you're that noseless monster or antonin dolohov."
"i will make him pay for what he had done to you, y/n. i promise."
you nodded. "i'm so sorry, love."
“no, i'm sorry! u didn’t want you to die,” harry said. these words came without his volition. “any of you. i’m sorry ---“ he addressed lupin and you more than any of them, beseeching him. “--- right after you’d had your son . . . remus, I’m sorry ---“
" i am sorry too,” said remus. “sorry i will never know him . . . but he will know why i died and i hope he will understand. i was trying to make a world in which he could live a happier life.”
“you’ll stay with me?” harry asked.
“until the very end."

in hindsight, staying in the rain was not a good idea. but that damned dog. it didn't help that it was so damn cute. you love dogs, so when you came across a large shaggy black dog one day, you couldn't help but get attached. there was something strangely familiar about the pup but you couldn't put your finger on it.
lily evans walked through the great hall, making her way over to the gryffindor table where dorcas and marlene were seated when a voice called out to her, “lilyflower!” she sighed before turning to the james and the three other boys.
 “what is it, potter?”
“you look positively radiant. have i mentioned?”

“you have.” she answered shortly to the boy. before james could speak up again, sirius beat him to it, “lily, do you happen to know where, y/n is? haven't seen her since breakfast.” he inquired the red head while james, remus and peter all donned knowing smiles on their faces. he had been voicing his concerns to his friends since all day.
“oh, she's with madame pomfrey,” sirius eyes widen at the mention of their healer’s name. “what? is she okay? what happened? why is she in the hospital wing?” the boy rambled on.
“oi, mate calm down.” remus spoke up from next to sirius, before turning to lily. “do you mind telling us what happened, lily?”
lily notes sirius’ concerned expression, “i just took her over to the hospital wing, she's been sniffling all morning, the poor thing. it's why she hasn't been to classes this morning.” she explained to the marauders. they nodded in understanding, except for sirius who looked more worried than before. “but is she alright?” he asks with a shaky voice.
“yes, it's just a cold. apparently y/n got caught in the rain yesterday. pomfrey said she's going to be fine, she just needs to rest.”
“can i- we go see her?” sirius asks.
“madame pomfrey said no visitors since she needs to rest.”
“oh okay, thanks, lily.” sirius sighs as she walks away. “goodbye, my lilyflower!” james called out to her before turning to sirius. “yes, you can borrow the cloak.” he whispers to sirius. “howd you know i was gonna ask?” james shrugged and sirius shut his eyes, head hung low as he groaned. “what's wrong, pads?” peter asked. sirius muttered something incoherent.
“what?” all three boys questioned, sirius lifted his head, a sorrow look on his face. “it was my fault.” he mumbles softly. “what is your fault?” remus wondered, raising an eyebrow.
 “that y/n is sick.”
“how so?” all three boys are confused. sirius takes a deep breath, “she was out in the rain yesterday because she was playing with a dog.” his voice is quiet, guilt ridden. it takes a second to sink in, “you don't mean,” remus started, his eyes widening at what sirius just insinuated, peter’s mouth is slightly ajar as james lets out a small gasp before letting out a laugh. “oh mate, you've got it bad, huh? and that's coming from me.”
“shut it, prongs!”
“sirius-”
“i know! i know it wasn't smart to let her meet padfoot but she looked so happy when she saw me.”
remus shook his head at the boy, “she looked happy when she saw padfoot, not you.” sirius let out another groan, head dropping to the table with a thud.
-
you adjust the pillow for the umpteenth time as you try to get comfortable on the bed. you couldn't seem to fall asleep, much to your annoyance. suddenly you erupt into a coughing fit, sitting you attempting to reach for some water when someone hands it to you. you take it and drink a few sips. you let out a breath, calming yourself. when you've composed yourself, you look up to the person who handed you the glass, expecting it to be madame pomfrey, gasping as you realize that it wasn't.
sirius black stood in front of you, a shy smile on his face. “sirius? what are you doing here?” you ask the boy, baffled at his presence. “i wanted to check on you. lily said you were sick.” he told you. you nodded, “i didnt even hear the door open, this cold is getting to me.” you muttered more to yourself. sirius chuckled, gripping the fabric in his hands. “i- uh wanted to apologize”
your eyebrows raise in question, “for what?”
sirius stutters a bit before answering, “just that you have a cold, i know you hate being sick. and also that youre here alone.” he breathes out. you give him a smile, “well, im not alone now, am i?” sirius hopes that you cant see the red tint in his cheeks. “you can sit if you want. although you could risk also getting sick so i wouldnt recommend it.” you offer turns into a warning and you watch as he shrugs and takes a seat at the end of the bed.
you shake your head, “always a rebel, eh?”
“you know it, darling. james, peter and remus send their regards as well.”
“make sure to thank them for me. and thank you as well, sirius. for being here, i really appreciate it.”
sirius doesn't trust his voice so he gives you a smile and nods his head. “on a serious note, what were you doing out playing in the rain, young lady?” he playfully scolds. “i had a good reason!” you defended and sirius nodded for you to explain. “a dog.”
“a dog?”
“yes! and you know how much i love dogs.” sirius laughs, heart swelling at the sentiment, though you weren't aware. “dogs are pretty cute.” he agrees with you, and you nod fervently, “they are!” you laugh, sirius joining in.
after your laughter dies down, sirius asks, “how are you feeling?”
“exhausted. but i can't seem to fall back asleep.”
“oh, do you want me to leave?” he offers, worried he’s somehow hindering your healing process. you shake your head and grab his arm as he moves to stand up, “no, you can stay. i've been alone here all day, i was going stir crazy.” sirius eyes move to where you're gripping his arm, you follow his gaze and immediately let go, apologizing as you do so. “it’s fine.” he assures you.
you sigh as you lay back down, feeling your headache coming back. sirius moves up the bed, to adjust the blanket, tucking you in. his hand then comes up to your forehead, “you're a little warm.” he notes, hand trailing from your forehead down the side of your face. he brushes your hair away and tucks it behind your ear before resting his hand on your cheek, his thumb stroking over your skin.
you lean into his touch, smiling absentmindedly. sirius feels his heart speed up at the action. you look up to him, eyes meeting his grey ones. “feeling sleepy now, love?”
“no,” you say, not being able to stop yourself from yawning. “okay,” he chuckles, “i'm gonna go now, let you get some rest.” your hand shoots up to grab the one that rests on your cheek. “stay until i fall asleep?” you ask him and he nods without hesitation. “sure.” without thinking, he leans down and presses a soft kiss to your forehead. he pulls away slightly, face still hovering over you, his eyes piercing into yours, you're inches away from each other.
“your eyes,” you observed. sirius freezes, “what about them?” you ponder for a moment, his grey orbs were familiar, but now they feel familiar in a different way, your is head too foggy to make the connection. “i like them.” you say sleepily and sirius couldn't fight the amused smile growing on his face.
“i like yours too, sweetheart.”

when i kissed the teacher (m.mcgonagall)
Tumblr media
the one where her mother does it first, and 20 years later she does it too
Everybody screamed
When I kissed the teacher
May 1979
"Phia! Hurry up we're going to miss the boats!" Ophelia Lovegood paused on her way towards their transfiguration professor.
"One second Lil's," she called to the redhead, "I gotta say goodbye to Minnie!"
"Five galleons she doesn't do it." James Potter muttered, looking at his best mate.
"Five galleons she does," Sirius said, smirking at his girlfriend's figure ahead of them.
"What are you two betting on?" Lily Evans asked, a small scowl across her features.
"Nothing Lilyflower," James swung an arm sound the redhead's shoulder. "Just watch."
Ophelia Lovegood stopped in front of her head of house a cheeky smile plastered across her pale cheeks.
"Yes, Miss Lovegood?" The professor raised an eyebrow.
And they must have thought they dreamed
When I kissed the teacher
"Just wanted to say goodbye Minnie!" She wrapped her arms around the professor, "and say thank you for everything, I love you, Minnie."The normally stern woman has a soft expression on her face as she patted the blonde girl's hair, hugging her back.
"You're very welcome Miss Lovegood." They pulled apart, both oblivious to the expectant boys watching them.
Without warning, Ophelia grinned and pecked McGonagall on the mouth before bolting toward the boats. Leaving the Scottish woman in a state of unbridled shock. She stared as the blonde pushed past hoards of people to reach the docks.
When I kissed the teacher
Couldn't quite believe her eyes
"See you soon Minnie! I'll miss you!" She shouted, diving into a boat with Marlene McKinnon who was laughing so hard she was crying.
"Oi! Minnie! Trying to steal my girl?!" Sirius smirked, sauntering over to the, still, very shocked professor.
She looked like a fool
Nearly petrified 'cause she was taken by surprise
"Sorry, Siri! Minnie is my one true love! You've been replaced," Ophelia taunted, grinning. The two Gryffindor boys both kissed their teacher on the cheek before running to catch up with the rest of their friends.
Minerva McGonagall shook her head, "finally, I can get some peace and quiet." She sighed, waving at her favorite students as they departed for the last time. But she'd miss the Marauders, that is until their kids came along.
As I held my breath
The world stood still but then she just smiled
May 1998
What a crazy day
When I kissed the teacher
"Come on Haribo! The boats wait for no one!" Asterope Black, the spitting image of her father, grinned, dragging an amused Harry Potter behind her.
"Miss Black! Slow down! It is not a race." Minerva McGonagall looked at the pair, attempting to be stern, but a fond smile had begun to slip through the cracks.
"Sorry, Min-Min! I'm just excited to ride the boats again." The girl threw her arms around the professor she saw as a grandmother. "I'll miss you so much! I can't believe my seven years with you is over!"
The professor smiled softly at the girl, the girl who reminded her so much of her mother. And exactly like her mother, all those years ago, Asterope leaned up and pecked the teacher on the lips.
"By Min-Min! Have a good summer!"
All my sense had flown away
When I kissed the teacher
Harry looked at the professor with an apologetic expression as he was dragged away toward the boats.
"Bye Professor, see you around."
"Asterope Eris Black!" Hermione screeched once they reached the boats. "What were you thinking?! That was highly inappropriate!"
"Whaaaat?" She grinned, "Mum told me to do it!"
Hermione gasped, "Mrs. Black told you to do that?!" She looked positively scandalized. She could see Sirius Black telling his daughter to do that, but Mrs. Black? The woman who always made her tea, to chat about books over?
"Yeah! Dad told me mum did it on their last day! I've been waiting seven years to carry on the legacy." The dark-haired-girl, who looked so very much like her father, smirked, that same troublemaker smirk. “And mum told me to carry on the tradition!”
Minerva McGonagall watched from her place at the docks as the two girls bickered, shaking her head, of course, it was Ophelia and Sirius's idea. She expected nothing less from a child of the most mischievous Marauders.
Asterope waved as the boats left the docks, smiling with tears in her eyes, blowing one last kiss to her favorite professor.
I was in the seventh heaven

It was a peaceful evening in hogwarts as you ate your dinner in the great hall. Peter was getting tutor lessons and Sirius and Remus were out by the black lake on a study date, James most likely out trying to find Lily, so you were left to read one of the books Remus recommended by yourself.
Suddenly the great hall doors were bursting open and the loud sound made you drop your book on the floor. However it was long forgotten as you looked up to see the cause of the outburst, hearing a familiar argument taking place.
“C’mon Lilyflower it was a joke, I was just thinking you would find it amusing!”, the raven-haired boy reasoned.
“Nothing about hexing the poor boy I was talking to is amusing, Potter! I told you that you have no business mettling in my love life!”, Lily argued as the students in the great hall quieted down to hear the commotion.
“Well of course I can! Your the love of my li- “ he was cut off.
“Don’t say I’m the love of your life! Don’t say we’re meant to be, we have nothing in common and I have been refusing your affections since day one!”, she snapped. “When will you see we aren’t meant to be and I’m clearly not interested?”, the redhead huffed loudly, crossing her chest while glaring at the boy.
James ignored her. “Not yet, love”, he smirked, seemingly unbothered. “But I’m sure given time you will-“
“Stop”, Lily interjected loudly. “We will never happen Potter! Get that in your head!”, he dropped his attitude taking in the tone she was going. “I’m sorry, but we won’t ever work and frankly I think you need to move on. Goodbye James.”, she sighed looking at him almost apologetically, turning around and walking away as the silence of the great hall was forgotten as students went back to their own conversations.
James was still in the same spot, looking where Lily had been looking, as though he was finally taking all her words in, as if a dam had broken and he was listening to her refusals for the first time.
You quickly pack up your bag, slinging it across your shoulder as you decide to make your way over to him, knowing he took that hard. Lily had never sounded so...tired and dejected, everytime she argued with James it was always still lighthearted, but this time it was as if she drew a line at his affections and ended it for good.
You stand in front of him and throw an arm over him leading him out of the great hall and away from prying eyes, and listening ears. You make quick steps in the corridors, practically dragging James along as his steps are unfocused and his eyes are trained on the ground the whole time.
You pull him into an empty classroom close the door as you once again stand in front of him, placing your hands on his shoulders.
“James are you okay?”, you whispered trying to get him to look at you at his head is still tilted downwards.
Moments pass and just when you think you won’t get a response you hear him sniffle. You cup your hand on his cheek and tilt his head upwards to wear you can see him, quickly noticing the the torn look on his face and the red, glossy eyes.
“Oh James,” you wrap your arms around him and he’s quick to bury his face in the crook of your neck, tying his hands together at the back of your waist. It was as if you had dropped a bomb, the way he melted in your arms, sobs tearing free from his throat.
You run a soothing hand up and down his back and let him weep into your hair as you feel your heart ache at him being so hurt.
“I feel s-so ...stupid!”, he cried, holding you impossible tighter as though your the only real thing in existence. “H-how could I t-think she would ever w-want... to be with m-me”, he managed, gulping down air as he hiccuped through the sentence.
You pull back and take his face in your hands, wiping at his tear- stained cheeks to calm him down. “Hey, you are not stupid and don’t you ever think that, okay?” you cooed.
“ I’ve just never felt this way before.”, he sniffled calming down as he tried to slow down his breathing. “I mean l always knew she was too good for me and that I didn’t deserve her, b-but I’ve never felt this-this sense of..worthlessness like I’m not enough.” he stuttered with a quivering lip.
“James, look at me”, he met your eyes, “ You are enough, I promise you. You deserve everything and more. How do I do know? Because I’ve seen you James. Your kind, and compassionate and you care for people out of the goodness in your heart and that is what makes you, you. And I love you for that, as well as Sirius and Remus and Peter. You are so loved and so don’t ever believe you aren’t enough, because you are. You’re more than enough and words can not describe how amazing you are.”, you told him looking in his eyes spoke confidently.
He smiled shyly at your speech, biting down on the small cushions of his bottom lip.” You really mean that?” he asked looking in your eyes for the truth. You nodded at him with a comforting smile, still holding his face in your hands. His Adam’s apple bobbled, not detecting a lie in your irises, matching your smile and letting you pull him in for another hug.
——————————————————-
Not long after, your walking him into his dorm, both of you realizing how dark it had become. “ I’ll see you tomorrow, Prongs. And remember what I said.” you smile at him, the both of you standing outside the door of the marauders dorm room.
“Yeah, goodnight Y/n” you go in for a quick hug, wrapping your arms around each other and giving him a pat on the back then pulling away.
As you go to turn around he quickly grabs your arm and in the blink of an eye his lips are on yours. Before you could even register what happened he pulls away, mumbling a quick apology and hurriedly walking into his dorm and closing the door.
You open and close your mouth for a few moments, trying to process what had happened then decided to think about it after a good nights rest and heading to your dorm for the night.
