here's the fucking letter
Tumblr media
nothing about a ceasefire, nothing about the 5000 palestinians killed, almost 50% of whom are children, the carpet bombing, nothing about the 150,000 palestinians killed since 2008 out of which 30,000 were children, nothing about the surveillance, apartheid, dispossesion, racism, rape, murder and ethnic cleansing that the palestinians have been subjected to for decades by their beloved genocidal regime israel, also the FUCKING LIE ABOUT THE BEHEADED BABIES that even biden himself admitted that he hadn't actually seen which pretty much assures you that it's a lie because if there was such a thing you can be assured that it would be plastered 24/7 on cnn bbc because obviously war crimes committed by the hamas are somehow much more illegal than the war crimes committed by israel because the palestinians are inherently "HUMAN ANIMALS" and must be dealth with as such. they're basically saying "thank for giving israel full freedom to commit genocide and war crimes ❤️"

<OLLA was a tiny movie that wasn’t going to get seen anyway, but clashes with the director (caught on film) may not have served him. Crimson Peak’s promo was botched>
This is intriguing, I’d never heard of him having any clashes with directors. Pls can you elaborate? Also what about CP promo was botched in your opinion? Again, I know nothing about that really but v curious.
I’ve often wondered if he’s a bit jealous of Cumberbatch, Hemsworth etc. I wonder even if he feels a bit annoyed watching his female costars succeed - sometimes it feels like Jessica Chastain is in everything, for example, Olivia Coleman, Cate Blanchett etc (although latter two are a bit older than him I think) - these women have had so many roles! In many of the comparisons he could draw amongst his contemporaries, he has as much (if not more) talent and looks and yet has not had quite the same success. It must be hugely frustrating for him - as you say, he’s had a fair few cracks at breaking into that next level of fame and not quite had it land. Luck does have a part to play and even though he has been luckier than most he must have moments where he feels hard done by.
I only saw Ragnarok for the first time the other day and it did remind me how great he is. He brings so much to that character, oozes charisma and excitement, has relatively few scenes / lines but makes them count. I’d love to see him in more stuff… fingers crossed! Just look at Jeremy irons, Ian mckellen etc… at least acting you can still keep working if you want to and get some incredible roles later in life if you’re talented so there’s acres of time left for Tom if he wants it. He probably has enough time to fit in one or two more personality overhauls too, come to think of it… what should the next one be do you think?
I don’t know why that thing with the Director gets brought up ever. I’ve seen the video and you don’t even see who he’s talking to and they’re just sort of having a discussion about how a scene should go, it wasn’t a “clash” people have blown out of proportion- hardly anyone saw that, he had a great relationship with Jim Jarmusch and it was 10 years ago!
What the anon meant about Crimson Peak is that it was marketed as a horror movie instead of a Gothic romance so a lot of people didn’t go see it because they didn’t want a scary horror movie but that’s really not what it was. So it didn’t get the audience. It deserved.

Just a Kiss
Hi! Instead of getting ready for work, I am writing this drabble really fast before I lose the idea!
Just a Kiss
Thomas William Hiddleston is your best friend.
How many people can say that?
He has a lot of friends and a lot of fans but only a few very close friends. You are lucky enough to be one of them. The two of you have been pretty much attached at the hip since you first met on set about eight years ago. Now, whenever he isn’t on the set for his newest movie, he is with you.
Like today, he called you and asked if you wanted to hang out after work. Who are you to say no? Besides, it was gonna be a rough day anyway, what’s not to love about spending a little quality time with Tom? The man you have loved for about as long as you’ve known him... but why would he ever love you back.
That is how you ended up on his couch, his head next to your thigh as he stretches his mile long limbs over the armrest at the opposite end.
Tom speaking your names pulls you out of your reverie “Hey. Where did you go?”
“Sorry! Sorry. Lost in thought I guess. What did you say?” You look down at him, his cobalt eyes glazed slightly from the beers you both had.
“I’m hungry. Do you want to order take away?”
You laugh, “It is one in the morning, Thomas. What will be open?”
His eyebrows pull together and he purses his lips. “I don’t know. All I know is I don’t want to cook.”
You laugh again and nod in agreement. You realize that you still haven’t looked away from his mouth as they stretch into a smirk.
“What are you looking at, darling?” He teases lightly.
You blush and lean your head on the back of the couch. You can feel him push himself up towards you more before laying his head in your lap. He takes your hand from where it sits on the armrest and puts it on his head, silently asking you to play with his hair.
Having been in this position so many times, it shouldn’t make you feel so much more.
Lyin' here with you so close to me It's hard to fight these feelings When it feels so hard to breathe Caught up in this moment Caught up in your smile
Tom watches you quietly, almost purring as your fingers comb through his curls. He has always liked having his hair played with- his mum and sisters did it when he was younger- but with you, it feels different.
He has known he had feelings for you for a while. He doesn’t know when they started but he remembers the exact moment that he realized they were there.
It was his last birthday. You were sitting on the couch in a way that resembles how you sit now: his head in your lap and your fingers in his hair. He was telling you about the filming of a certain scene from Ragnarok. You were laughing loudly with your head thrown back against the couch. It was that moment he realized that your laugh was the best sound he had ever heard. His emotions hit him like a semitruck. The urge to kiss you was almost overwhelming. But he refrained. He didn’t want to ruin your friendship by admitting feelings that couldn’t possibly be reciprocated.
As he watched you now, he could see your pulse in your throat because of the way your neck was stretched back. He wanted nothing more than to run his lips over it, mumbling how much he loved you. How much he wanted you.
He mutters your name again so you will look at him. Gods, he loved your eyes. They always sparkle so prettily. He loved how your whole face lit up when you looked at him. It was almost enough to give him hope that you could return his feelings. Almost.
Before you could register what was happening, Tom stood up, took your hand to help you up, and pulled you into his arms.
“Dance with me?” he whispered.
You could only nod. He pulled his phone from his back pocket and turns on a song. Just a Kiss by Lady Antebellum.
I've never opened up to anyone So hard to hold back When I'm holding you in my arms We don't need to rush this Let's just take it slow
Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight Just a touch of the fire burning so bright And I don't want to mess this thing up I don't want to push too far Just a shot in the dark that you just might Be the one I've been waiting for my whole life So baby I'm alright, with just a kiss goodnight
You try not to think about why he picked this song. You just assumed that it was the first to catch his eye.
It wasn’t the first to catch his eye. He actually searched for it in YouTube. He is telling you his feelings without speaking the words. He hopes you pick up on that.
I know that if we give this a little time It'll only bring us closer To the love we wanna find It's never felt so real No it's never felt so right
He is singing the lyrics next to your ear now. He is practically begging you to tell him how you feel. You want to. Oh, how you want to.
Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight Just a touch of the fire burning so bright And I don't want to mess this thing up I don't want to push too far Just a shot in the dark that you just might Be the one I've been waiting for my whole life So baby I'm alright, with just a kiss goodnight
No I don't want to say goodnight I know it's time to leave, But you'll be in my dreams
“I need to be getting home soon.” You whisper into his neck, wrapping your arm around him more firmly and tightening your grip on his hand. Your words and your actions contradict each other. You would do anything to stay with him just a little longer.
“Stay.” He says the one word you have been craving to hear for god knows how long so quietly that you think you imagined it.
You look up at him, catching his lovely eyes again “What?”
“Stay.” He says louder this time. “Stay with me.”
Your eyebrows scrunch together. he smooths the lines out with his fingers, then continues to trace your face. Your eyes flutter closed as he runs his thumb over your lower lip.
“Stay.” He pleads before pressing his lips to yours.
Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight Just a touch of the fire burning so bright No I don't want to mess this thing up I don't want to push too far Just a shot in the dark that you just might Be the one I've been waiting for my whole life So baby I'm alright, oh, let's do this right
You move your arms from his waist to his chest, eventually sliding them around his neck and into his hair. You tug him closer by his curls on the back of his neck. His lips taste like beer and salt and something else. Something sweet. You can feel what he is saying to you with this kiss, the feelings he is pouring into your mouth.
He squeezes your waist as he pulls you closer to his body, letting a sigh escape into his mouth. He swallows it greedily. He doesn’t want to pull away, but human bodies need oxygen.
He rests his forehead on yours, catching his breath and sharing your air.
“Stay?”
“Yes.”

Avengers Endgame’s problems
BE WARNED MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD
Look, I LOVED Endgame.
Every grand entrance had me clapping along, every sad line had me nearly in tears and every reunion or joke had me smiling and laughing because I was genuinely happy to be there.
But, as much as I loved it, this movie had SERIOUS issues.
I won’t even go into the giant unexplained plot holes this time travel mechanism created, I just want to talk about some decisions I wasn’t happy with regarding some characters.
I’m talking mostly about what they did to Thor, Loki, Steve, Peggy, Bucky and most of all Tony.
Let’s start with the easy one to unpack- Thor.
The whole movie everyone laughed about how bad of a shape Thor was in without giving it any serious thought. The man lost everything and was so clearly experiencing some form of depression, PTSD or survivor’s trauma.
This serious issue so many struggle with was reduced to a comic relief made by a cheap shot centering his huge belly, fat shaming him and invalidating what he’s going through.
Thor has made great character development over the years, especially in Thor: Ragnarok and it was devastating to watch it completly reversed, and to watch countless of people’s experience with mental disorders caused by trauma be played for laughs. What they did to Thor was character assassination at its worst.
Now let’s say a few words about Loki.
Loki is one of the most loved MCU characters and it shows how much Marvel was afraid to make him the center of attention, by how little he was given.
At the first scene of infinity war he attacked Thanos, an enemy he knew well from his time in the void being tortured by him, with a simple knife, not using ANY of his powers (teleportation, illusions, telekinesis, Jotun powers…) and making himself look like a weak idiot he is certainly not. In fact, this was so absurd that it had people just straight up assuming he wasn’t actually dead and that he had a plan- a reasonable assumption given the fact that Loki’s character is known for being incredibly powerful, mischievous and cunning.  After all the speculations, what was he given in endgame? Nothing. Thor, despite being in a terrible state mostly because he lost Loki doesn’t mention Loki’s name even ONCE, instead he has the short pep talk with their mother that Loki so obviously needed and no one seems to even acknowledge it when Loki escapes with the Tesseract in a timeline we don’t even know still exists.
Now let’s move on to team Cap.
I really loved Steve’s moments throughout the film save for one major thing- the ending.
Captain America- the person who stated he can't ever retire because he just can't stand aside when injustices are done around him, the person who gave up everything to help his best friend Bucky, the person who knows he can’t ever stop fighting- THIS PERSON just abandons everyone, including his best friend who needs him more than ever now, and goes to live in the past with a girl he knew for a pretty short period. That was maybe the most out of character thing he could possibly do: Steve Rogers would not have stood by and watched Hydra take over S.H.I.E.L.D, He would not have done nothing to help his best friend who he knew was being brainwashed at the time and he would have most certainly not left everyone in the future alone when they needed him there.
And then, when he comes back, he doesn’t even so much as look at Bucky, the person was the most important thing in the world for him 2 minutes ago, and lets a guy he knows but a few years the mantle of being Captain America, and not to the one who deserved it- Bucky Barnes.
All of this without even mentioning that Peggy already had an established husband and children in her tv series and wasn’t just a blank love interest. Where does that leave Peggy? Does she just never meet her show husband? Didn’t they say you can’t change anything in the past? The movie doesn’t care enough to explain.
What they made Cap do was done purely to go against the fans’ expectations without any regard to the fact that this action is on another level of out of character behavior for him. Doing things purely to go against expectations is a concept that makes a comeback with Tony Stark as well.
And now we’re getting to the thing that I am most angry about- Tony Stark’s death.
Tony Stark’s arc was not meant to end with him dying so early. Tony’s whole arc over the past films, including the beginning of Endgame, was about him finding his peace and retiring to be with his family.
He became a mentor to Peter Parker, He settled down with Pepper and had a kid, so many times he said he was only fighting to be able to go back home to the people he loved.
Tony deserved a happy ending more than anyone ever did.
This man was the base of the MCU. He has been through so much and still survived and managed to live the life he wanted- a family life.
So many people look up to him and to his story. So many people who struggle with anxiety attacks or PTSD relate to his experience and need that representation to be positive. He didn’t deserve to get a “you can only be free of your trauma once you’re dead” ending.
Let’s say you really wanted to kill Tony in this film, why did you give him a kid then?? It has been an issue for a long time that Tony didn’t want to be like his father, that he wanted to be there for his kid no matter what, he didn’t deserve dying and not getting to raise her, knowing she will have to grow up without a father, what is basically his worst fear.
Tony carried the MCU since day one, His story has been going to a “retire and raise a family” place for a long time now and he has already been through a lot of traumatic events- HE DESERVED TO LIVE.

pairing: Tom Hiddleston x reader
style: one shot
wc: 2.3k
warnings: none, it’s mostly fluff

I was wondering if you could write a Tom Hiddleston story how you two met during Thor 1 (actress or makeup artist your choice) but didn’t get together until after Ragnarok premiere. He announced that you two are together and expecting your first to Colbert (you two had a convo before you made the announcement) Colbert wants to know if you 2 are married and he says no but he will wait til after the baby so you both are settled in. Please and thank you. Omg I sent in a request and I was hoping that reader is about 5 years younger than Tom. I thought maybe that would help with the reader thank you again
A/N: this was a lot of fun to write, and thank you so much for the request. I hope it’s what you wanted ^_^
Tumblr media
2010
It’s not a big role, you don’t think anyone would say. You have a few lines, two in one scene, three in another and then more in an after credits scene―but you’d been told that was kind of hush-hush so you try not to give it much focus.
Nevertheless the size of your role, there’s a very nervous feeling in buzzing through your body. All because of what movie you’re in (also because you recognize the name of the character you’ve gotten).
You’re playing a small role in the first Thor movie (you’d seen Iron Man when it came out two years ago and had fallen in love, but never had you thought you’d play in one of the marvel movies). Your role is called Sigyn, and familiar with Norse mythology, you know she’s Loki’s wife. To be honest, you have no way of knowing if Sigyn will be a romantic role in the coming movies (you were told they wanted you back and you’d signed a three movie contract), but you do know that you have scenes with Loki.
And who plays Loki; none other than Tom Hiddleston.
This would probably be his break, but you’d seen some of his earlier work and you adored the man. That charming smile of his, the happiness in his eyes, the… everything about him is just spectacular.
And now, you get to meet him.
The nerves are a whirlwind within you; a pounding heart, shaking hands tightly gripping your script, nervous flutters doing flips in your gut. Your lips are pressed tightly together as you take steps further into the area.
At the other end of the room, you see the two people you’ve been dreading. Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, both good looking men who you’ve heard of and become extremely nervous to meet. One of your scenes is with the two of them (and some others) and the last thing you want to do is fuck it up.
Kenneth Branagh meets you at the door, where it feels like you’re feet are glued because the prospect of going inside to meet actors far more experienced than you has your whole body shake. He smiles, greets you with a handshake and a little “thanks for last time”, and walks with you towards the two ‘superstars’―the two would probably not think of themselves like that.
“Chris, Tom, this is Y/N Y/L/N. She’s the one playing Sigyn, and though she has a little role in this movie, you will be seeing more of her later.” Kenneth introduces you slightly and you take the hand Chris extends to you.
And you take the hand Tom extends right after wards, and try not to blush as he says, “it’s lovely to meet you.”
That pounding in your heart only works up a greater nerve, and this is just the first day. You wonder how it’ll be through the next month―with few lines you’re working less. But you do know that you’re gonna be able to meet Stellan Skargård at a point as well and that makes you even more nervous.
---
On your last day of filming, you try not to get emotional. With a smaller role, that at times only occur in the background, you had less to do, yet you connected with both Tom and Chris on levels beyond your imagination.
Your last day, you say goodbye to them with the feeling that your not gonna see them again, even though you know you will. After all, you and Tom keep texting even outside of work. It’s surprising how close you’ve gotten in only a few months.
You can’t wait for the next movie. Or the premiere of this one.
 2013
“Miss Y/L/N, here.”
“What has it been to work on this movie? Was it better than the last with more lines?”
“What’s your relationship to Tom Hiddleston? Are you two dating?”
It’s the premiere of Thor: The Dark World, and you miss the premiere of Thor. There were fewer questions, less focus on you, and only a few pictures of you posing with Tom and Chris, and one with you and Natalie Portman.
On the other side, working on the movie had been more fun. You’d gotten to work more closely with Tom, you’d found out that the role of Sigyn would not be a romantic one for as long as they could hold it off and instead they showed a really lovely friendship, and you’d been screaming through the whole time about how much you loved Avengers (there were flaws to the movie, but it had become one of your favorites with how much Tom was in it).
There had also been a lot of rumors lately. Whilst filming, you and Tom had a tendency to go out for lunch and eat if you could. On your off days, you would hang out with each other. There were plenty of rumors about you two dating, and they had started when he’d broken up with his girlfriend in 2011.
Both of you denied them because they weren’t true, but the press were relentless. And you can’t say that it doesn’t hurt to deny them. During the now three years you’d know Tom, you could say that you fell more and more every day.
The fact that he’s single makes it a better possibility, but you don’t let your hopes get up. He broke up with his girlfriend because his career takes up too much time, who’s to say with both your careers going strong that that isn’t going to happen if you two start dating as well.
Chris’s constant asking whether or not something is going on, doesn’t help. Even now, standing before the press, he whispers in your ear a little teasing remark about your and Tom’s relationship.
If only, you think.
 2017
Finally, you can slump down on your couch. Finally, you have some time off. And finally, you have some time off with someone you haven’t seen in almost a year.
It’s been a while since you saw Tom in person. After the last day of filming Thor: Ragnarok, he’d taken a break to catch up with himself, something you envied him. You’d seen him afterwards in shows and movies (the most recent being Kong: Skull Island which you watch again and again because it’s not only a good movie but James Conrad aka Tom Hiddleston in the movie is a fucking god ), but there weren’t a lot to see Tom all the time.
You’d talked a lot, texted and facetimed. And you’d tried to be there for him whenever he needed it, but both your schedules were a bit packed from time to time.
But now, after the Ragnarok premiere, you both could just fall back for a few days and relax.
Tom sits down on your couch next to you, or more sits down where there’s room and lets you stretch your legs out over his lap. He rests a hand on your leg, warmth spreading from there and through your entire body.
“So,” you ask him, “what do you wanna do? Anything relaxing in mind?”
“A spa day sounds good,” he jokes and you stick out your tongue at him. “No, what about a movie and ordering something to eat?”
You nod. “Sounds like a plan. What movie and what to eat?”
“You can choose the movie and I’ll choose the food.”
You shrug as an answer, afterall he knows your likes and dislikes. Whilst he does that, you go through Netflix, trying to find a movie you can both enjoy. Eventually, you land on some sappy movie you haven’t seen before but kind of wanna try―plus, something romantic may help in trying to get Tom to make a move.
It has been two months since you decided to go for it. He’s gotten over his relationship with Taylor Swift, he’s had a well deserved break, and the whole world knows of your very good friendship and has started to leave it like that. If anything, now would be the best time to also be able to keep it under the spotlight, to keep everything private.
Tom comes back after a few minutes, smiling smugly and you raise a brow his way. He only shrugs and settles into the couch with you. The man uses so much space you have no choice but to touch him as you settle back as well. It does not take long for you to snuggle into the crook of his arm, and when he doesn’t push you away, you smile to yourself and try not to focus on the heat crawling over your body.
And everything’s ruined when the doorbell rings and the food comes.
He comes back with chinese food, which sounds super good and you’re glad he chose, but you also hate the food for taking away your snuggle time. As you eat, you sit close but not as close and it annoys the living hell out of you.
But, when you’re done and you lean back into the crook of his arm, everything works out for the better. Eventually he drapes a blanket over the two of you, and under it, his hand rests on your thigh.
You don’t think he notices he’s doing it. It might just be his unconscious telling him to ‘pet’ you, but you can’t help but react to him stroking his large hand up and down your thigh.
For a few strong moments, you don’t say anything. You keep it in so that he continues because it feels great , but it takes everything not to tell him he can go a little further up and everything to not tell him to stop because it makes you… well, yeah.
It’s a small whimper that alerts him. His hand stops at once as the sound escapes you and you can feel his eyes burn holes in the back of your neck. You press your lips together, can feel the heat in your face as you look away so that you don’t become more embarrassed.
“Is something wrong?” he asks, voice oh so gentle and oh so… FUCK.
You shake your head. “No, everything’s fine. All fine, yeah, fine. Super fine.” You chance a glance back at him.
He cocks a brow, amused smile playing on his lips. “Super fine, huh? So I should continue?” And then he has the audacity to smirk .
“You- you… fucking hell, I was sure you didn’t even think about doing it, but you―” You cut yourself off and give him the biggest glare you can manage. “You fucking asshole.”
“Oh, so you didn’t like it?”
You glare at him, tries to shoot him daggers, but you can’t manage. “Just shut up and kiss me.”
And he does.
 2019
You smile at Tom. “Of course you can. This has always been your choice, okay? I love my privacy and we’ve been keeping shut about this for two years to anyone save our family. If you’re ready then I’m ready.”
He places a kiss on your lips. “I love you, darling.” Another one. “And I’ve been thinking it might be time. After all, we’re gonna become three.”
A big hand places itself on your stomach and you smile brightly up at him. “Yes, we are. It sucks that I’m not allowed to travel for the next few months.”
“Yes, it most certainly does. So we should use the time we have.”
You roll your eyes at the smirk on his face, but you kiss him back as his lips meet yours and snake your arms around his back. This is gonna be some long months.
---
“My first guest is an actor best known for ‘Thor’, ‘War Horse’ and “The Night Manager”. He’s now making his Broadway debut in Harold Pinter’s ‘Betrayal’. Please welcome, Tom Hiddleston!”
Tom walks into the studio dressed in a blue suit that fits him perfectly . He smiles to the audience clapping and screaming as he sits down.
“Welcome back. Nice to see you again,” says Stephen Colbert as he sits down as well.
“Thank you very much everybody. Thank you, Stephen.”
“How have you been?”
“I have been very good.” The audience screams a little extra, making Tom flush a little and smile brightly. And the two go into a talk about Tom’s work, both the Loki series and his parts in Shakespeare plays. They go further into fighting scenes and eventually talk about his Broadway debut, which is the reason he’s there.
As they talk a little more and Stephen says where to watch Betrayal, he turns around to Tom. The smile on his face is a little smug. “Before we finish this, I have a question.”
Tom nods, not sure where this is going. “Okay, ask away.”
“We saw on Y/N Y/L/N instagram a little tease of a maybe pregnancy, yet no one has any idea of who the father is or that she’s dating anyone. You, as a close friend of hers may know more.” Stephen raises a brow. “And we did notice that she tagged you in it.”
Tom presses his lips together and takes a deep breath. He lets out his patented ‘ehehe’ laughter and nods. “It is true. Y/N is pregnant and I’m the father. We’ve been together for two years now and it has been the best two years of my life. I have been very lucky.”
The audience lets out a series of ‘awws’ and screams at that. “What about marriage?”
“We haven’t talked about it, but it might be right around the corner. She is definitely the love of my life.”
“That is fantastic to hear, Tom. We wish you both the best of luck. Thank you for joining us today. Tom Hiddleston, everybody!” The audience cheers loudly and Tom smiles happily.
 2021
After the premiere of the new Loki show, Tom Hiddleston and Y/N Hiddleston make an appearance together on Graham Norton. The married couple talk about the new series, life as a married, and life with kids.

ahh well, I’ll definitely let you know once I get around to reading it!! omg, never let me go is so bleak, so yah, you’ll love it if you love a good cry, like me hehe!
spirited away is literally like no other movie I’ve ever seen, and I was on the fence on whether to give it 4 or 5 stars, I think really it’s a 4.5 but there’s no half a star emoji haha. I’ve had family over so only half way through howl’s moving castle but I love it so far, so think it’ll be highly rated!
eeeek a fellow marvel fan!!!! I frickin love anything fantasy, LOTR, HP ⚡️ so, I don’t have favourites of anything, I’m so so indecisive, but a few of my favourites are cappie winter soldier, (probably the first marvel movie I really loved), thor ragnarok, GOTG, infinity war, civil war, black panther, spiderman. also the disney+ show wandavision is so good! I love scarlet witch 🧙‍♀️ also, I know it’s not marvel, but frickin love into the spider-verse!!! what’s your favourite marvel movie?? and what are your favourite movies in general?
hmm, good question… my favourite lego set is probably my new york set, it’s the first one I made during lockdown and it brought me joy during a bad time!
ah I was so waiting for a good time when I heard the title for the song, and when I listened to it, I was like, I should have known it was gonna be a sad girl summer. I haven’t, I’ll definitely check it out. I love hot ones interviews, did you see olivia rodrigo’s one, it was so funny! I love billie eilish’s new song, happier than ever, but I still need to listen to her new album!
I’ve always wanted to play piano, do you still play? yeah, I really hope she does!! but even if she doesn’t, fans always come through and do amazing versions themselves on youtube, but it would be awesome if she did official versions !!

Thanks to @toddthefoxydog and @sallydoodle for tagging me on this one, and commiserations to the rest of you who now have to put up with my poor choice of movies. Seven eh? Well this is actually a bit harder than I first thought because some of the movies I used to love have not aged particularly well, I first noticed this a couple of years ago when I was rewatching Casino Royale and it just seemed that the editing seemed just a beat off, anyhoo let’s persist shall we?
So Bond movies, there has to be a Bond movie and I am going to choose Diamonds are Forever because as problematic as Bond is, this one featuring Plenty O’Toole (and a story/script by Roahl Dahl) is probably my favourite of all (really people forget about OHMSS, it’s not aged well) While Skyfall is undoubtedly the best of the Daniel Craig efforts and a fine modern thriller.
I’m also going to choose Jaws as my number two film, even now over 40 years on it still never fails to make me jump with the underwater boat sequence and has taken on a new significance as the world has struggled with ‘closing the beaches’ this year. For the record, the mayor is not the hero of this movie. He is an asshole.
My favourite movie of the last few years, and I am unanimous in this, has to be Mission Impossible: Fallout, the plotting is tight, the set pieces are absolutely brilliantly done and it has overtones of some of the best of Michael Mann’s work, especially with the Paris kidnap sequence which echoes the bank robbery/gunfight in Heat.
That’s three right? Ok next stop, Hitchcock. For me that has to be North by Nortwest. Cary Grant at the height of his powers, James Mason as the bad guy and that unforgettable sequence in the cornfield with a crop duster. Brilliant cinematography and of course a throbbing score by Bernard Hermann. Perfect Sunday afternoon viewing.
Musicals? Singing in the Rain. There is a reason this regularly appears in those best of lists, and it’s also given both me and the girl child hours of fun in just shouting at each other “I caaaannn’t staaaanndd it”. And remember kids, dignity, always dignity.
The Fall by Tarsem Singh is one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen. I had the pleasure of seeing this on the big screen a few years ago and if I had a 4k tv it would be one to watch while sitting way to close to. It’s the story of a paralysed stunt man and a little girl he tells stories to while she visits him as they both recover in a hospital in the early days of Hollywood. If you’ve never seen it, it really is worth a look.
One more, and while I’d like to choose something by Christopher Nolan (if I were to it would probably be Inception, although Heath Ledger’s performance in the Dark Knight elevates that movie to another level), but I’m going to choose instead a film about of all things, baseball. Or at least it is on the surface, but really Bull Durham is about much more than that, it’s about life and disappointment and how we deal with that and carry on, and Walt Whitman and double standards and sexuality and basically everything in life. It bears repeated viewing, or at least it did, I haven’t watched it in years, because, well life, but maybe it’s worth a rewatch at some time. I’m sure I could still pretty much recite a lot of the scenes by rote.
There’s a bunch of other stuff I could definitely put in a list, Alien, Aliens, Galaxy Quest, Up, The Incredibles or many of the Pixar movies which are mostly delightful (except Cars which is utter utter shite). Some of David Fincher’s output and maybe even some Kubrick (Barry Lyndon is my favourite) and the original Point Break by Kathryn Bigelow, with Swayze and a young Keanu. No Marvel movies but if there were it would be Captain America: Winter Soldier, because Cap punches Nazis no matter what they call themselves and Tony Stark is an asshole regardless of whether you think he died for your sins. Thor: Ragnarok would probably get an honourable mention for Hemsworth’s comic timing.
Anyway I only got asked for seven so there you go. Consider yourself tagged if you haven’t already done this.

So we ended up on a ‘rewatching Ragnarok level tonight’. I might double up and also watch Guardians of the Galaxy in bed to fall asleep tonight, but we’ll see.
I had a Day. And also I’ve been kind of nostalgic lately, for the period of time in between seeing Ragnarok and seeing Infinity War. It’s not really about the movies or fandom - I mean part of it is, but it’s way more about the emotional and professional place I was in in that time period. I was still in the coursework phase of graduate work (which is really the part I excel at and the part that made me happy), I was in really good shape, I had a lively and varied social life. I’ve just been in kind of a rut for the last year. I even find myself missing my old apartment which is sort of ridiculous. (The apartment itself was nice, but I had a roommate who I didn’t like and my current apartment feels much more mine.) It’s just all about how do I get that back? The feeling I had then. Where did it go? Why do I feel like this now?
I do have some actual real-life ideas of the why and how, but since those are like...long term things, my solution to that tonight was...rewatching Ragnarok XD
Thus, here are some thoughts:
- I do wish they’d slowed down the pacing of the first like...15 minutes a bit but that’s mostly because I would take a whole 2 hour movie of Thor and Loki sniping at each other. But I guess that’s what fanfiction’s for. ;-)
[also, if you’re asking me ‘but what would you cut to make that part longer’ the answer is just that comic strip of the dog being like ‘No cuts! Only more!’]
- there are a couple things where I’m like ‘@self, that would have been a rad detail to include, well, too late now.’ mostly the whole ‘knocking on the door of the Sanctum and then you’re just inside’ bit. That would have been rad to include, somewhere. Namely in the chapter of ‘bound at the end of the world’ where Thor and Steve go to visit Strange. Eh. Too late, oops.
- “Father, it’s us” THAT FEELS SIGNIFICANT EMOTIONALLY (more significant even than the ‘my sons’ line, which admittedly does get the good face reaction)
- I really need to make another running playlist with more of the Ragnarok score on it, this shit is great running music
- I’m really into the focus on euphemism on Sakaar. “People come from far and wide to unwillingly participate” Like that’s part of what makes it such fun dub con fodder, it’s all about the veneer of being okay and then you peel back the layers and it’s horrifying (similar to the thing I said earlier about how the Black Order doesn’t really scare me, but the Raft does). There’s that great moment that the writing engineers where you’re going along with it, and then trip into the horror. “People come from far and wide” *nodding along* “to unwillingly participate” *trip.* Dang. It’s really great that the writing can cause that drop in your stomach when you realize the dark truth behind the glamour. Dang.
- Loki also full body flinches away right when the Grandmaster interrupts his whispering with Thor. Every time, every fucking time I think I’ve gone too far, or read too much into things about Sakaar, canon just fucking does that...
(like I guess you can interpret it as surprised flinch, but with everything else...)
- also Hela says that Odin ‘banished me, caged me’ which is a nice callback to what Odin did to both Thor and Loki, in order
- also the chest touching ‘you’re not allowed to leave’ move, please canon, chill out a bit
- I 100% think earlier in the Hulk’s career on Sakaar, Thor doing the lullaby totally would have worked. Like, the Hulk had been there too long, he’d gotten too much control over Banner. (I’ve seen posts that are like ‘lol why did Thor think that would work’ and my two cents is the only reason it didn’t was because of the brutality of the arena and how long he’d been there)
- I do really like how clever and resourceful Thor is in this movie - contacting Heimdall, palming the controller off Valkyrie. I like smart Thor. :-)
- Loki and the Valkyrie’s fight. Still hot. Still makes me ship it. Enough said.
- and the visual effect of that flashback scene...iconic
- “I don’t want to fight your sister, that’s a family issue” I love how Bruce draws the line, like ‘I’ll fight your brother, but your sister...eh...’
- I would also take a lot more Thor and Bruce sniping, they are very entertaining. And like four full movies of Loki and the Valkyrie physically fighting. Just like. A lot of that. Yes.
- “...do you want revenge?” “Um, undecided.” Gold.
- god, the elevator scene. I can’t. “I should stay here.” “You’re right, you should stay here.” “TT_TT how could you think I should stay here?” Loki, you are a disaster. This scene is also probably the most honest scene they’ve ever had, through four films, and it’s like 80% lies and obfuscation, fuck
- ‘orgies and stuff’ CANON GO HOME YOU’RE DRUNK
- also, Thor and the Valkyrie fighting in sync. Also hot. Also makes me ship it. Hence the massively underrepresented OT3. (I think there are...12 Thor/Valkyrie/Loki fics on Ao3?)
- despite having not grown up with/interacted with her younger brothers until like two days ago, Hela really has the ‘get up, you’re in my seat’ delivery down pat. And it even works. (I only have like...a 70% success rate.)
- I hadn’t ever really caught that Hela calls herself ‘the savior of Asgard’ in her fight with Thor, I feel like that also has so much EMOTIONAL SIGNIFICANCE that then Loki is given that title a few minutes later
- Valkyrie’s wtf face when she realizes the Bruce Banner/Hulk thing is great
- Thor and Loki being Delighted With Each Other will always be the best part of the final battle
- another thing that contributes to what I think this movie does very well re: Thor and Loki’s relationship is all of their real conversations are like half conversations (the elevator scene being the major exception, which is more a conversation hidden beneath another one) - Thor doesn’t need to actually explain anything about Surtur’s crown and Ragnarok on the bridge - it’s this nice little half-said conversation that serves to prove that...they actually know each other, that they’ve grown up together, had all this experience together before it all fell apart. It’s part of what I really appreciate about their relationship here. Their relationship is so dramatic and fraught in the first three films they’ve appeared together in, which is beautiful in it’s own way (you all know I love me a good dramatic angst speech), but I think here we really see what foundation there is to lay the ground of a reconciled, renewed relationship.
- Thor’s little ‘what have I done?’ makes me SAD
- I’m still waiting on that fucking hug, Marvel. I will never stop waiting on that hug. I will keep fucking writing fanfiction where they hug, and cuddle, and kiss each other’s foreheads, and cheeks, and touch each other, even just little touches to the arm or back to get the other’s attention. I will keep writing fucking PLATONIC BEDSHARING until I get my GODDAMN HUG, Marvel, I swear I will!
- I wish I could like the comparison posts between the end of The Dark World Thor and Endgame Thor, but the problem is...I love his coronation at the end of Ragnarok so much (how quiet and unadorned and clearly supported by the people it is) that I just...can’t get behind having to rewind that arc. It was such a good one. From ‘I can’t be both king and a good man’ to ‘to be a good man in this moment means becoming king’ and the title and power don’t necessarily fit him perfectly but you get the sense that he can grow into it and make it his own, and honestly that’s probably a good thing, and that’s what makes it possible for him to be a good king...and I just...it was perfect. Having to do it a second time (because otherwise he’s just like.....giving up literally everything?) is just...ah. I don’t know.
So that’s it! We’ve reached the end! Clearly, the end in which Thanos arrives and things are bad but Thor and Loki both survive (and Heimdall, he survives too) and eventually they defeat Thanos and recover and build a life together ruling Asgard reborn OBVIOUSLY.
I’m really glad I did this. I think I rewatched Ragnarok in...April? Just before Endgame? But I definitely wasn’t paying attention, was doing something else (something somewhat unpleasant if memory serves) and stopped halfway through. This was fun, and helpful! (I think some of my voices and aesthetics had started slipping a little bit in writing. I should probably watch the other two Thor movies, and Infinity War again too, refresh the inspiration box in my brain.)
Okay! End movie night!

The Oscars
(Tom Holland x Reader)
Summary: Dressing up in what makes you feel good for the Oscars.
Fluff prompt: 16. “Has anyone ever told you that you give really good hugs?” -
Warnings: Tons of tooth-rotting fluff, a few swear words I think
Word Count: 1,329
A/N: This is one of two works I have for
@hollandroos and @neptuneparker for their Whatever It Takes writing challenge. Both of the writings are separate from one another.
#sophsandcoraswc
I have a lot of prompts I’ve signed up to write for and I just got back from my first college band camp and I’m really sore. So I’m going to be grinding these out hopefully before June. Comments and feedback are always appreciated. Requests are open and Messages are open if you want to talk about anything (except Endgame at the moment). This is the dress I was basing Y/n’s off of.
P.S. still haven’t seen Endgame, but I’m going to watch it before Spider-man: FFH comes out.
NOT MY GIF
Tag list: Send me an ask if you want to be added.
@trashinaglass said she would read mine. :)
The Oscars
A time when great films are recognized and the people who worked on them become well known across the industry.
You, unfortunately, weren’t one of these people. You’ve never even watched the Oscars until your boyfriend of two years, Tom, asked you if you wanted to be his date to the event (A movie he was in, was nominated for best picture).
You immediately talked to Zendaya for Fashion advice as the most fancy you’ve dressed up for was prom.
“Do I go with sexy, skirt, a long train, or with what I like? I don’t know what to do Ze.”
“Go with what you like because at the end of the day, it’s you who will be wearing the dress and you should feel powerful in it.”
You decided that you wanted to surprise Tom with the dress you picked for the event.
You slept over at Zendaya’s and you were enjoying breakfast before hair and makeup people arrived.
“You know what I want to do. Just start a live stream and talk about random shit.”
“That’s actually a good idea.”
While spooning another mouthful of Frosted Flakes in your mouth, you took out your phone and started an Instagram live stream. You set up the camera facing you as you continued to eat.
“Hey everyone. I’m eating breakfast at Zendaya’s house before the Oscars. Hair and makeup arrive in what half an hour?”
“Half an hour”
“Yeah and … I’m bored. So we’re going to be chatting, telling stories until they arrive.”
As more people joined the stream, questions started to come up.
“Where’s Tom? Tom is on the other side of the house getting ready. He doesn’t know what my dress looks like. He hasn’t seen it, so I’m going to surprise him with that later.”
As questions came in, you started to see one repeating question that you were dreading about answering. But it needed to be said.
“Who are you wearing? Ok, I’m going to go on a rant here and I do not care what you all say. I don’t care who it’s made by. Congrats for anyone who can make it in that industry, but for me as far as buying things I don’t always like their style, it’s not me, and also it makes it more expensive. So, that is not my priority when I’m shopping. My priorities are can I afford it, can it be worn more than once because otherwise it’s not useful to me, and do I look good in it because the only people whose opinion matters to me are those closest to me. Other than that, don’t give a shit.”
A smug smile crept on your face as Zendaya gave you an applause behind the camera.
tomholland2013: Can’t wait to see you tonight. You look beautiful already.
The fact that he was in the chat and complimented you after your rant made you smile.
“Thanks Tom. Ok guys, I’m going to end this stream before I spoil anything to Tom before he sees me tonight. So, hope you all have a good day. Bye.” You waved bye to the camera and turned off the stream.  You didn’t want to be like Mark Ruffalo and spoil the first bit of Thor Ragnarok.
The makeup and hair team came a few minutes later and it was time to get ready for everything. The dress you picked was a black one-shoulder satin aline that faded to blue by the bottom. There was a little sparkle by the shoulder and the back was open with the fabric cascading in stripes down your back. You wore a necklace with an Avengers logo because you were that person. Your hair was in a braid that folded back into a bun while a few strands of hair fell to the sides of your face. Your make up was just to even out your skin tone and give you a slightly glossy lip. Everything was how you wanted it, except your contact that bugged your eyes. You would rather wear your glasses, but contact for the Oscars was the one thing Z could convince you to do.
Once you were finally ready, you stepped out to show her. She was in a glittery gold dress (that hugged her curves perfectly) and a flower crown. She stood there with her mouth opened.
“Y/n you look great.” You could hear the genuineness in her voice as she gave you a once over. You took interested in your painted toenails as you stood there sheepishly. You gave yourself a look in the full-length mirror smiling to yourself.
“You think Tom will like it. No offense, but his opinion is the one that matters most.” She laughed at your sarcasm.
“He is going to be Speechless. You have no idea.” You once again smiled at her enthusiasm. You have never really dressed up this much for Tom. Yes, he’s seen your prom pictures and photos of you at weddings, but this is the first time you’re dressing up and going out with him.
“Let’s go show him then shall we.”
You grabbed your small clutch and made your way to the back garden of the house where Tom was supposed to be taking pictures. Zendaya grabbed her phone and started filming behind you as you walked in front of her, not wanting to miss Tom’s face. Tom’s back faced the house as camera flashes went off and he was instructed to stay facing that way. You opened the sliding doors that led to the back of the house and you saw someone filming from behind the photographer.
“K Tom. You ready?”
“More than ready love.”
“You can turn around now.”
Tom turned around, and once he did, he couldn’t form any words. His mouth stayed open and his eyes expanded while his hand covered his mouth it as he took in your beauty. “Holy shit” was muttered under his breath just so you could hear it. He then engulfed you in a hug that seemed to last forever.
“Has anyone ever told you that you give really good hugs?“ Tom whispered in your ear. His voice made shivers go down your spine that were immediately soothed by his presence.
"What do they say to you?”
“They say everything is alright. They say you are loved and accepted. They say forgiveness and comfort are here. They say you are safe and at home.” He pulled back and you wiped the tears that were threatening to spill from his eyes. “Words can’t describe how beautiful you look right now. And how beautiful you will always look to me.” He brushed the apples of your cheeks with the pads of his thumb as he leaned in and gave you a heartfelt kiss. One that screamed “I love you” without using words. You pulled away and stared into those caramel chocolate eyes that have captured your attention since day one. The rest of the world was background static that didn’t matter. All that mattered was the love of your life resting his hands on your hips, giving you that million dollar smile.
“You ready to go?”
“So ready darling. I can’t wait to spend the night with you.” You hooked your arm in his as you both made your way towards the car with Zendaya right behind you smiling at how happy she is for her friend.
“As long as you don’t run into Madonna again at the after party.” Your smug face showed that underneath all the sparkles, you were still yourself.
“Oh God. I hadn’t thought about that.”
“You know. She never said to show off your two-person dancing skills. You could have just said "Back up” and did your spin move where you twirl three times.“
"Where were you when I needed you a few years ago.”
Another sweet peck on the lips and you two were off to the Oscars.

hey any good movie suggestions? -action -romcom -fantasy -comedy asking for a friend haha thanks! have a good day/night. 😊
oh boy, when i get asks like this i blank out immediately, but here ya go! Spoiler alert: it gets pretty damn long.
Romance/ Comedy/ RomCom:
1. Crazy Rich Asians:Beautifully filmed, and extremely talented cast and such a gorgeously done idea. Not to mention, Henry Golding’s back muscles
2. Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewaani (Hindi)I’m a desi and proud, so let’s go this way too. It’s so fun and bold and honestly such a change of pace from other Hindi movies. I’d die for Deepika Padukone and Kalki Koechlin
3. 2 Weeks NoticeI don’t think anyone really realised the sudden influx of Hugh Grant content on my account, but people who know me know i’m an absolute slut for his wit and charm. This is one of his funniest, without a doubt.
4. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (Hindi)I’m not sure whether this goes under romance or comedy, but it’s one of my favourites anyway. Beautiful locations, their chemistry is amazing and great sub plots.
5. To All The Boys I’ve Loved BeforeLara Jean and Peter Kavinsky. I have feelings for both of them.
6. The Set-UpI honestly didn’t know what to expect while watching this, but it was so funny and I really loved it.
7. 3 Idiots (Hindi)Such an important movie for parents of kids studying in India and other countries where education is the utmost priority.
8. Bangalore Days (Malayalam)It’s probably not the best movie to exist, but it’s very close to my heart.
Fantasy:
1. Harry PotterYou can’t go wrong with an ultimate Harry Potter marathon. Even though the books are leagues above the movies, I still adore them for doing the best they can.
2. Pirates of the CaribbeanHilarious, smart, Elizabeth Swan. Need I say more?
3. The MCUAlthough watching all of them is highly recommended, some of my favourites include Iron Man 3, the Avengers, Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange, Civil War and Thor Ragnarok.
Thriller:
1. Searching (2018)One of the best damn movies out there. It’s filmed entirely through different forms of technology, no real life acting and it pulls it off so well.
2. Drishyam (Malayalam)My native place is Kerala, and they produced this actual beauty of a thriller movie. It may not be the best you’ve seen, but I loved it.
3. The Da Vinci Code It mind fucked me.
4. Inferno It’s one of the movies that followed the Da Vinci Code and it made me actually want to get into Dante and art, but it unfortunately didn’t happen. Still a good movie.
5. Hush Okayyyy, I don’t think I ever screeched so hard while watching a serial killer movie. It screwed with me horribly but it was a great idea and they pulled it off well!
6. Talwar (Hindi)Oh boy. It’s based on a real murder of a young girl in Noida, and it explores all the different murder suspects and things that went wrong in the investigation.
7. Pink (Hindi)Powerful, and stellar performances by everyone on the cast. A serious must watch, especially with the movements that have started.
8. Kahaani (Hindi)Bro this was crazy and I’m sure all my Indian friends can vouch for this.
Animation:
1. Into the Spider-Verse.Watch it. Watch it. WATCH IT. IT’S UNBELIEVABLY GOOD. SO. FUCKING. GOOD.
2. TangledThe love of my life, Flynn Rider has been ruining expectations for me for years now because he’s perfect and no one can match up to his standard. Probably my all time favourite movie.
3. CocoBeautiful animation. Amazing plot twists. Absolutely gorgeous.
4. Inside OutClosest I’ve come to actually crying in a theatre was when I watched this masterpiece.
Coming of Age/Self Realization:
1. Perks of Being a WallflowerIt dealt with trauma and depression the way it needed to be dealt with and really showed the ugly side of it.
2. The DUFFOne of the lighter movies on the list, but hilarious all the same :)
3. Dear Zindagi  (Hindi)Honestly one of the last few good movies to come out of Shah Rukh Khan now. So, so honest and refreshing about mental health in India.
4. Queen (Hindi)This inspired my mother to go to Paris where we promptly got pickpocketed and spent the next few days on a budget. It’s an amazing movie, and Kangana Raunat killed it.
Biopics:
1. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (Hindi)This part is probably biased because I haven’t watched a lot of biopics outside of Indian ones, but Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was a knock-out. Farhan Akhtar deserves everything. One of India’s finest athletes, and the journey he followed to get to the top.
2. Neerja (Hindi)Goodness, there wasn’t a dry eye in the theatre by the time it was done. She was an air hostess working in the Pan Am flight that got hijacked years ago.
3. Bohemian RhapsodyUgh. Bright, fun, and then it got so dark it was crazy. Freddie would have approved of it.
4. Hidden FiguresThree women working for NASA. It was so empowering and absolutely amazing.
5. Dangal (Hindi)Ugh, so so good. It’s about three girls who were raised as boxers in India by their dad.
6. Hachi: A Dog’s TaleI felt empty after watching this.
I’m also throwing in a couple of TV show recs, in case you want something new to watch!
TV Shows:
1. The Mentalist
2. The Office
3. Brooklyn Nine-Nine
4. New Girl
5. F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
6. Jessica Jones season 1
7. Sherlock
8. How To Get Away With Murder

Shazam: my thoughts
(I typed this up a few days ago and never posted it here) I just got back from the dollar theater to see Shazam, and I'm glad I did go see it. I was impressed with this one. I'd go as far to say that it's the best DCEU film. The highs of Wonder Woman are better, but this is more consistent. Wonder Woman drops the ball pretty hard in the last 10 minutes of the film or so. This doesn't. It's definitely a better film than Aqua Man because that one is a highly entertaining mess. This has much better writing. This is well paced, and it is entertaining from beginning to end. The writing is pretty damned good, and it has lots of bits of good humor in it. It's an action comedy, and my only real complaint is that it's a little light on the action. I'd still recommend watching it, though. It knows when to be serious and when to throw in a good joke, and it strikes a nice balance between the two. I said that it's light on action, and that's pretty true. If you go to these movies to see super heroes punch powerful villains, this might not be the film for you. There is not a lot of that throughout a large chunk of this film. You got a good payoff at the end, but this is much more of a character driven film than an action one. It works, though, because the characters are likeable. Just keep in mind that Billy is a 14 year old kid and some of his actions that seem selfish will make a lot more sense in that context. When you were a kid, did you want to be a super hero? If you said yes, this might be the film for you because that's what this film is about. It's about a kid getting super powers. What would you have done if you were 13 or 14 with super powers? Whatever you answered, this film shows it, and it's a joy to watch.I love it in this sense. It really takes you back to being a kid again. If you haven't seen Shazam, give it a watch. Don't go into it expecting a lot of punching.Just let it take you back to when you were a kid and you were wanting the powers of Superman or The Flash and enjoy it. In that mind set, I'm sure you'll love it. This is the first time that A DCEU film does straight up challenge some of Marvel's better films like Antman and Wasp or Thor Ragnarok. I highly recommend this one. It's great.

Endgame Predictions/Wishlist Round-Up (Spoilers)
I made a number of posts discussing what I thought might happen, what I wanted to happen, and what I didn’t want to happen. Here’s how all my speculation and hoping stacked up against the real movie. Massive spoilers below the cut.
In summary, I was really wrong about a lot of stuff. The whole movie was very different from what I expected.
 Predictions
Speculative Timeline (as of April 2, 2019)
- We open on the remaining Avengers either in Wakanda or already back at the compound. It is only days or weeks after the Snap. They are struggling to pick up the pieces. They track the missing population and try to figure out what happened to all their allies that we didn’t see at the end of Infinity War.  Eh, not really. It was kind of like that, but they didn’t really focus on it.
- They find Nick’s pager and begin messing around with it to continue sending the signal. Captain Marvel arrives. Straight up was not in the movie.
- They cut to some of the other people who will play a role. Probably Tony. Maybe the dusted people. Or Scott Lang in the Quantum Realm. Eh, kind of. They did cut to Tony early on.
- We return to the Avengers. They decide to go fight Thanos. A while ago, I saw a synopsis from footage that was shown to some Disney investors. It said that the Avengers track the energy signature of the space stone, so maybe Captain Marvel’s arrival helps with that, since that is the stone her powers come from. This is still very soon after the Snap as shown by Nat’s hair in the new special look footage. This was a trick again. I think this happened after the time jump.
- They get soundly defeated. But they either manage to escape or Thanos shows “mercy” and decides to send them back to Earth or something. Wrong. They actually defeat him, which I liked. It really made me wonder what would happen next.
- Maybe some time passes of them still struggling to get through the wreckage of their world. Some other remaining allies, like Pepper, coalesce around them. Kind of. There was the scene with the hologram chat.
- Tony arrives with Nebula. Reunions and tough conversations. This pretty much happened, but it was more shouting than an actual conversation.
- Big time jump (like 3-5 years). I know I shouldn’t get my hopes up, but for some reason, the more I re-watch the trailers, the more I think that sometime during this period, if it really falls out this way, they will be able to restore Vision.  First part was right. Sadly, very wrong about the second part.
- We open on Nat in Japan. She talks to Clint and tries to get him to come back to New York with her. He refuses; he says he’s not done avenging his family. Wrong about the second part and it happens early in the movie.
- Cut to Tony, Steve, et al. working together on new weapons, getting SHIELD back together, trying to make the best of the situation. So wrong.
- Scott Lang arrives from a Time Vortex in the Quantum Realm. He finds the Avengers. He has new information that unlocks a solution that they haven’t tried yet. Everyone starts to work on that. Kind of, but happened much earlier than I expected.
- Clint comes back, hence Nat’s smile in the new footage.
- Maybe they cut again to the dusted people working on their own solution. And/or Thanos.
- We see the Avengers working more/testing whatever time travel/quantum technology they’re developing. There are some emotional beats between different characters. They didn’t really pause long enough to have emotional beats in my opinion.
- They’re finally ready to use it. I still don’t have a clear idea on what could happen during this part of the plot. But they use their new allies and new technology to get what ever they need to face Thanos again. Yes, the infinity stones, but I didn’t really predict anything specific here.
- The final showdown. Everyone fights together, last chance, throw every power at the wall and see what sticks. They’re on the brink of defeat. Thanos is still too powerful. When things look very bleak for our heroes, all the dusted people come back. They rally and defeat Thanos. The rest of universe’s population that was dusted comes back. Mostly this is what happened, definitely the best part of the movie.
- Celebration, mourning, weddings, funerals, a taste of what the characters will be doing going forward. Kind of yes, kind of no.
- End Credits Scene(s)
- Cue black screen with white text, saying something to the effect of: The Avengers have done their jobs. Or the new Avengers will return.
General Predictions (as of March 25, 2019)
1.      There is no time travel, aside from maybe whatever Scott does to get out of the quantum realm. The early leaked set photos that looked like they were from the Battle of New York were all BARF technology, dream sequences, illusions, alternate universes, etc.
2.      They do explore multiple realities/universes.
3.      The dusted people are not in the Soul Stone. I think I got this one right. I’m still a little unclear on what happened.
4.      Tony survives and gets to marry Pepper and have a kid and a farm.
5.      Steve survives, too. With everyone debating whether Steve or Tony or both will die, I think they might go for a surprise and kill off neither of them, making the death(s) someone(s) more unexpected. I guess he’s technically still alive at the end, but close to dying of natural causes.
6.      I think at least one major or semi-major character will die and stay dead. At this point, I have no idea who.  Yes, so far.
7.      The MCU going forward is in a totally new universe/continuity. The more I think about the possibility of the multiverse, the more I think they might pull a Star Trek (2009) and have the fix involve creating a new timeline, therefore making permanent changes and definitively forging a fresh trail.
8.      I hate to say it, but I think we will get some variation of White Vision. Prove me wrong, Marvel. I do not want to be right about this, but I just have a feeling. This would not be the absolute worst outcome because it could still be fixed, but I really, really hope I am wrong. I’m not sure, but I think I might have preferred White Vision to the complete nothing that we got.
9.      They will fight Thanos more than once. Yes.
10.  Shuri is fine. The picture of her on the missing people board in the first trailer was either a misleading shot or at that point in the movie, the Avengers genuinely thought she was dusted. She will help them defeat Thanos.
11.  There will be a time jump. Despite the admission that misleading footage was used in the trailers, I think certain appearance changes in the characters point in only one direction. Individual shots may be misleading, but I think the general sense that a lot of time passes at one point will remain.
12.  The Snap will still be reversed, but the fix will not involve undoing it entirely. Instead, people will be brought back to after the time jump has occurred. I just cannot fathom Marvel not bringing back half the universe’s population. But if the time jump remains intact, that will provide some permanent changes and losses.
Wishlist Items (as of December 11, 2018)
1.      Vision comes back with his emotions/memories fully or mostly intact
2.      Wanda et al. come back
3.      Everybody lives
4.      Alternatively, if anyone dies, have it be very important to the final victory and a grand send-off
5.      Have all the Avengers be integral to winning, not simply rely on the awesome powers of a few of them
6.      If time travel is involved, still have everyone remember the events of Infinity War
7.      Emotional reunion between Vision and Wanda
8.      Have Tony and Steve reconcile I don’t know, kind of, but not really.
9.      Emotional reunions for everyone Most people got them.
10.  A Pepper/Tony wedding at the end/show everyone celebrating
11.  Showing the aftermath of IW for the general population Kind of, the bare minimum of showing that.
12.  Full-on Return of the King style ending with 10 scenes showing little vignettes between various characters where everyone is happy or on their way to being happy Also kind of, a little bit
13.  Happy or reflective post-credit scenes (no indication of a new threat on the horizon; let there be a moment of peace) No post credits scene?
14.  At least 20 minutes-half an hour of wrap-up/celebration and/or mourning/preparation for moving forward after the final battle. Hell, I’d probably even take an hour. They have 10 years of movies to wrap up. I think it was more like 5 or 10 minutes.
15.  Thanos gets the justice that is coming to him
16.  Have Nebula kill Thanos (if that’s the resolution, which makes the most sense to me), and not Tony or Carol or someone else
17.  Have Thanos be the main villain (I keep hearing rumors that this is not the case, but I think that it would be a bad idea)
18.  A final battle scene that Sebastian Stan (I think) mentioned filming with every Marvel character making a grand last stand Almost everyone, except Vision. I’m still mad about that.
19.  A (final?) pre-battle pep talk from Steve
20.  Everyone meeting Carol kind of, also bare minimum
21.  “Avengers, assemble!”
22.  Ideally, I’d like Vision to come back as early in the movie as possible, but the more I think about it, the more that seems kind of unlikely. But if it doesn’t happen until the end, I’d love Tony to have a line something like, “I need to have all my sons at my wedding.”
23.  Shuri and Peter Parker to interact
24.  Thor (and Loki?) and Doctor Strange to meet again and have a callback to Ragnarok
25.  Wanda and Doctor Strange to interact Not really, I think they were sort of next to each other at one point.
26.  Wanda and Carol to interact same as above
27.  Vision and Groot to interact
28.  An explanation of Doctor Strange’s plan didn’t really get one
29.  People interacting in the Soul World
Things I Didn’t Want to See (as of March 14, 2019)
1. White Vision
2. Wanda to somehow be pregnant/have the twins by the end of the movie. It seems probable that some variation of that is the eventual plan, which is fine, but I’d prefer them to wait a while to implement that. Let Wanda be happy and let her and Vision just be a happy/recovering couple for a while, let them more fully explore themselves and their powers first.
3. Redemption for Thanos. I know there is some precedent for him working with the Avengers in the comics, but it would make me angry if they just worked together in the face of a bigger threat despite everything that happened.
4. Captain Marvel or anyone else to save the day (almost) single-handedly. Most of the talk from the filmmakers and the marketing indicates that they are focusing on everyone being a team and working together, but I would be tremendously disappointed if that turns out not to be the case. It’s only proper that, as the apparent swan song for many of the original six, that much of the focus should be on them and the whole ensemble of all the Marvel heroes. I want everyone to be integral to the victory.
5. Lack of closure in general. I don’t want Thanos or any of the Infinity Stones hanging around. I guess the Infinity Stones are still around.
6. No Vision
7. No happy reunion for Wanda and Vision. There are definitely ways they could both come back, but still not get a happy reunion, which is why this is a separate item.
8. Anyone dying. Probably the most unrealistic, but I will hold on to hope until proven wrong.
9. More trauma for Wanda and Vision. What with the show still apparently happening, I have fewer and fewer doubts about the fact that both Wanda and Vision will come back (pretty much at 100% certainty for Wanda and maybe like 70-80% for Vision), but I am far less certain about what the movies/show will do to them once they come back.
10. Vision to be wiped out from ever having existed. I don’t think this one is too likely, but I do see some room for it to happen.
Things I Liked That I Didn’t Expect or Ask For
-          America’s ass
-          Wanda’s badass one-on-one confrontation against Thanos
-          All the MCU women teaming up
Things I Didn’t Like That I Didn’t Expect or Ask For
-          Virtually zero mention of Vision. Not even saying his name once. Honestly, the writers always seemed to like him. Did they suddenly get mind controlled by a Vision or Scarlet Vision anti?
-          Fat jokes about Thor
-          A cameo by one of the Russos (I always get them mixed up)—it was very stupid and self-indulgent, considering what they left out

I bought "The Official Movie Special to Marvel Avengers: Infinity War," a few days ago and finally had time to read it. I had pretty low expectations for finding anything new or surprising. Wow, was I wrong! I went straight for the Bruce Banner and Hulk section for Mark’s interview and didn’t get any new Brutasha news (see below), but Mark really articulated what’s happened with Bruce and Hulk in a much clearer way.
Interviewer: Where do we find Bruce Banner?
MR: Coming out of Thor: Ragnarok, Banner is no longer really linked to the Hulk through anger. It’s always been that Banner was struggling with excitability because he was afraid to bring out the Hulk. So he always felt like he was sitting on his emotions. In Thor: Ragnarok, Banner has been subjugated to the Hulk. Banner is not always angry anymore. He has a little bit more range as a character—he could get angry, he could get excited, he could get upset. I feel like Banner is reborn! He’s like a 13-year-old kid.
He’s much more able to express himself. He’s not afraid of his own emotions. He’s not afraid of fear or anger. But at the same time, he can’t summon the Hulk in the same way. The Hulk is separating away from Banner. He’s starting to be able to be other things other than just angry all the time, and he wants an existence.
I always imagined this struggle, and I didn’t know if it was going to be in some ethereal space where Banner and Hulk actually battled it out for primacy.
Interviewer: How is it for you to play that range now?
MR: I was freaked out because people get used to a brand, and then they want it that way. We’re playing with fire a little bit, but as a performer, Robert Downey, Jr., was like, “What are you doing, Ruffalo? Why are you doing that?”I think part of the problem that we’ve had with making Hulk [solo] movies is people don’t want to watch a guy who doesn’t want to turn into the Hulk, and that is exactly the thing audiences want him to do! That can get old.
I believe some of this is new and build on what Mark has previously said about the characters. I’m seeing hints of both a separation and an integration being set up. Any thoughts? I think it bodes well for the future and that last film beyond Avengers 4 on Mark’s original contract. #MarkSoloHulkMovie
Note to Bruce x Natasha folks: Do not panic over the Brutasha section. It's exactly what Mark said about "unrequited love" in the summer press junket interviews, and he walked it back later in the live interviews, so this is not up-to-date with what he clarified later or what Cumberbatch and he said on the Red Carpet. We know what was in Infinity War, and we'll get more in the next film.
If anything, what Mark says about Banner being more in touch with his emotions and less afraid of expressing them now that it won’t send him into a Hulk-out is good news for the ship. I won’t get into the juicy details here, but we all know what Bruce and Betty could NOT do in The Incredible Hulk. That appears to no longer be an issue for Bruce. (Yes, as a fic writer, I’m turning mental summersaults of delight over this!)

hey! i'd love to jump on the marvel bandwagon but i have no idea where to start. what movies should i watch & in which order? help! x
Hello Nonny!! And thank you for asking me this - made my day, really :D
Well - the first thing I’ll ask is do you have a favorite character, or a character you want to know more about? Cause, let’s say you want to know more about Captain America - I’d sit and watch all the Cap movies, or movies that he’s in.  If, however, you’d like to experience things beyond a single character well then ---
SO’s Guide to the MCU:
So, these are in chronological order - the order they were released, and this is the order I suggest you watch things in.  They kind of flow into each other really nicely.  Note: There are also a bunch of TV shows, too, but I haven’t watched any of them, nor do you really need to for an understanding of the movie universe.  So, here we go:
Phase One:
Iron Man - This movie kicked the whole thing off in 2008 and is the story about Tony Stark becoming Iron Man. Tony Stark is a billionaire who sells weapons for a living, but when he’s kidnapped and nearly killed, he rethinks his life’s priorities. It’s a solidly good movie, and I do recommend starting here as it lays the foundation for everything that comes after it.  It also kind of gives you a feel for how Marvel movies run, so you can get an idea if this type of movie is your thing or not.
The Incredible Hulk - Not to be confused with the (supposedly) awful film from 2003 named Hulk.  This version of Hulk is not much better, and it i the one film that I recommend skipping over entirely unless you really want to see everything.  Hulk is gonna be recast for Avengers anyway, so there’s not really anything here that connects to the rest of the MCU, and it’s not really that good of a film in the first place.  FWIW - Bruce Banner created a serum that accidentally turns him into the Hulk, and that’s pretty much it.
Iron Man 2 - The continued adventures of Tony Stark and Iron Man.  This movie gets a lot of crap, but I don’t think it’s all that bad.  It’s not necessary if you want to hit the highlights, but if you enjoy Iron Man, I do recommend it.  It also introduces Black Widow.
Thor - Oh, Thor. Thor is a demi-god, based on Norse Myth, who lives in a place called Asgard and has a magic hammer named Mjolnir.  If you want to do your homework before watching the Avengers then I do recommend this - even if it’s a middling film.  Thor and Loki’s relationship is one of the highlights of the MCU, so that alone makes this film worth a watch.  Also, there’s a brief introduction to Hawkeye.  However, it’s not necessary, as I made it all the way to a few weeks ago without seeing it and managed to understand everything just fine.
Captain America: The First Avenger - Captain America is original just a scrawny kid named Steve Rogers who just wants to do good in the world. The Cap movies are slightly better than the Iron Man and and a lot better than the Thor films, so I’m going to recommend all of them.  This one is also is a solidly good film, it’s a nice intro to Cap, gives some background and depth to the MCU, and sets up The Avengers.  Plus Peggy Carter.
The Avengers - Avengers, which brings together Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye, is possibly one of my all time favorite films, and I definitely recommend it over everything else in phase one.  If you are a little iffy about whether or not you’ll like the MCU - maybe start here, and see if you like the characters, then go back and watch their origin stories if you are interested.
Phase Two:
Iron Man 3 - The continuing adventure of Iron Man.  It’s a bit wonky, but Tony’s story is really compelling as he struggles with PTSD.  I think if you’re an Iron Man film, it’s worth the watch, but maybe not if you aren’t as interested in his character.
Thor: The Dark World - Like the first one, this film struggles a bit, and also like the first one, the only redeeming thing about this film is Thor and Loki’s relationship.  It is pretty skippable if Thor isn’t your thing.
Captain America: Winter Soldier - The best film in phase two, it’s Cap and Black Widow against the government in this high stakes political thriller.  It’s a well done film that has ramifications on the entire MCU, so I definitely recommend it!
Guardians of the Galaxy - This is the MCU’s version of Star Wars, complete with scrappy characters.  It’s mostly about Starlord, who comes from Earth and was abducted at a young age.   Space stories aren’t my cup of tea, but this film is well done, funny, and sets up a ton of stuff that will be played out in later films.  I recommend at least seeing it once so you know who these guys are because they will be back.
Avengers 2 - I’ll be upfront, it’s not as good as Avengers 1, but there are some good things in it.  And it’s the whole crew back together again, which is always fun.  I do recommend seeing it at least once since it introduces some important characters and plots that get carried into phase 3.
Ant-Man - Ant-Man is Scott Lang, a down and out criminal, who is recruited by a scientist to steal back some technology.  This film is mostly stand alone, but it’s a fun little heist-comedy.  It’s not needed for the greater understanding of the MCU, though there are nuggets in here, but if you want a light-hearted film to watch one evening, I do recommend it!
Phase 3:
Captain America: Civil War - Don’t let the title fool you, this is really Avengers 3.  I love this film since it explores the various dynamics among the Avengers - especially getting into the heart of Tony and Cap.  But even if you’re upset that it’s not fully a Cap movie, I strongly recommend this one since this film sets up so much going forward and will be referenced a lot in other movies.
Doctor Strange - Strange is an unusual character that represents the mystic side of Marvel comics.  He’s a surgeon who’s wrecked his hands, so he’s forced to find new ways to heal and stumbles upon some seriously weird mystic shit.  It’s a solid film, but I wouldn’t say that it’s a stand out.  If you’re interested in Strange and his beginnings, or just a Benedict Cumberbatch fan, I’d say check it out! But it’s not really a necessity.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - I’ll be honest with, I had a hard time getting through this movie.  If you’re a fan of space stories, or just really like GOTG and its characters, I’d say watch it - but feel free to skip if it’s not your thing.  It’s not really that good of a movie.
Spider-Man Homecoming - I’ll be honest, I’m biased and love Spider-Man, so this is an automatic yes for me.  Peter Parker’s just your average high school kid who got bit by a spider and has super powers.  (Though, I’m assuming you know this partially since most people know about Spider-Man.)  If you watched Civil War and found Peter Parker endearing - yes check it out! It doesn’t have a lot of bearing on the MCU as a whole, but it’s a fun, low stakes, high school story that I think is worth watching.
Thor: Ragnarok - Finally a Thor film that’s good! Yes, I whole-heartedly recommend this film.  It’s a great comedy, and finally gives Thor some good character development.  It also has a lot of influence on Thor’s character going forward.
Black Panther - Black Panther is the king of Wakanda - an advanced African country, who keeps its borders closed to the outside world.  Another definite yes! Like Spider-Man, if you found Black Panther interested in Civil War, check this one out! It’s incredibly solid, has really engaging characters, and is more thematically complex than a lot of MCU movies.  I recommend it!
Avengers: Infinity War - This film is a masterpiece of everything that’s come before it.  If you can watch it in a theater - I do recommend doing it that way for the experience.  However, it does rest on the shoulders of everything that’s come before it, so it may not have the same weight if you haven’t seen most of the rest of the MCU.
Upcoming Phase 3 -
Stuff that’s not been released yet
Ant-Man and Wasp - After the heaviness of IW, I think this will be a fun little adventure story and already looks worth checking out.
Captain Marvel - MCU finally gets their act together and has a female character as their lead.  This should be interesting, especially since Captain Marvel will probably play a big role in Avengers 4
Avengers 4 - The conclusion of Avengers 3, and the finale of the first three phases.  It’ll be interesting to see how all of this pans out, and will set the stage for anything that comes after it.
So, there you go, Nonny, hopefully this helps a little bit!  Honestly, the only film that I straight up don’t recommend is Hulk -- but like I said first, I’d stick to following characters you enjoy if you feel a bit overwhelmed by everything.  If you want more information, let me know!

MCU Villains RANKED
I finished watching all the MCU films a few days ago (I have too much time on my hands) and, as a first Marvel list, I thought I’d rank all of the main villains in terms of how cool/powerful/how generally good I think they are. Come and see where your faves have placed in this messy, ill-informed list!
This list includes all of the main villains for every film up to Infinity War (Ant-Man and the Wasp isn’t out yet so it’d be difficult to include Ghost in here) with a couple of side villains that I felt needed a spot in the list. Enjoy! (Also, possible spoilers ahead for basically any MCU film)
Disclaimer: My opinion will probably, definitely not be yours
Tumblr media
23. Whiplash (Iron Man 2)
Tumblr media
Oh God.
I’m pretty vocal about how much I’m really not a fan of Iron Man 2 in general, but one of its worst aspects is a totally forgettable and laughable villain. I mean, I think at some point he has a subplot about his dad or something but most of the time he’s whining about his ‘bord’ and building shitty whips with his tech rather than something useful.
22. King Laufey (Thor)
Tumblr media
I mean, sure. I guess this guy wasn’t supposed to act as much more than suitably evil looking blue person for Thor to fight. What puts Laufey ahead of Whiplash is pure cool factor, like I wouldn’t mess with this guy. He’d freeze me or somethin’.
21. Abomination (The Incredible Hulk)
Tumblr media
Honestly, this is probably a higher ranking for Abomination than any other list I’ve seen. My only issue with this guy is that he’s a bit eh. Despite being played by Tim Roth, a brilliant actor who appears in multiple of my favourite films, his character is just one dimensional, sweaty soldier until the end when he turns into one dimensional, sweaty green monster. Again, his minor redeeming quality comes with his raw strength (say what you like about the Hulk film, that Harlem fight at the end is well worth watching the other hour and a half), but he’s very much let down by an underdeveloped character and a completely absent motive for anything.
20. Aldrich Killian (Iron Man 3)
Tumblr media
Okay, now we’re getting into the villains that sort have a motive at some point. Personally, I didn’t hate the whole ‘Ben Kingsley isn’t the Mandarin’ twist, so that’s not why he’s placed so low. I’ll agree that that Guy Pearce plays a decent villain here, but the film itself is so messy and full of subplots that Killian sort of gets lost in it and never really develops beyond angry rooftop guy who can set himself on fire.
19. Malekith (Thor: The Dark World)
Tumblr media
I thought Thor 2 was pretty damn okay and not the horrendous mess people make it out to be and I’ll defend Christopher Eccleston’s Malekith just as tentatively. Malekith’s only downfall is a non-existent character beyond cool looking menacing elf dude. We know that he wants to make everything all dark again for reasons that aren’t quite clear, but that’s kind of it. Again, his slightly higher ranking is more the cool factor.
18. Darren Cross (Ant-Man)
Tumblr media
Cool suit by the way my dude.
Corey Stoll’s Yellowjacket is a pretty by-the-numbers MCU villain. He has his moments, particularly the Mexican standoff during the presentation of his suit, but he’s a pretty okay aspect of an otherwise great film. He holds his own as a decent villain, but his backstory and motives borrow a little too heavily from Iron Man’s Obadiah Stane. And he doesn’t quite pull off the disgraced CEO as well as Jeff Bridges.
17. Ronan (Guardians of the Galaxy)
Tumblr media
I loved Lee Pace in the Hobbit films, so the fact that Pace plays Ronan well isn’t in question. The thing about Ronan is that it seems like putting the heartless genocidal racist at the centre of a comedic superhero film about a group of misfits acts as a pretty jarring tone shift. It sort of feels like Ronan was stuffed into the wrong film here (But maybe that’s why he’s having his second round in Captain Marvel next year). Ronan isn’t exactly forgettable, but when surrounded by such rich and interesting characters, his destructive plans and endless angry monologues just sort of melt into the background.
16. The Black Order (Avengers: Infinity War)
Tumblr media
I sort of lumped these guys all together purely because I don’t think any one of them shines out as more developed than another. They act as cool, menacing underlings to the purple fucklord that is Thanos and I’m almost kind of mad they didn’t make it to Avengers 4. As little development as there is, you can tell each one of them plays a specific role (Cull Obsidian is obviously massive brawn thing, Ebony Maw is the clever one, Proxima and Corvus enjoy stabbing things etc), which means the only thing that’s really stopping these guys from appearing higher is lack of screen time.
15. Ultron (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
Tumblr media
Age of Ultron, like Thor 2, is often crapped on just as heavily for reasons I don’t think are hugely valid. And, like Thor 2, its villain is often the centre of the crapping. Ultron’s motives are relatively clear throughout the film and he feels central enough to be a genuine threat. I also like the plot arc that Ultron is the Avenger’s (particularly Tony and Bruce’s) fault, so that gives a whole new dynamic to his character. My only issue with Ultron is how odd his humour seems at times, as if he can’t quite decide whether he wants to be the serious villain or the funny villain. I’m all for villains showcasing both of these traits but, in Ultron’s case, he seems conflicted on which he’s trying to be.
14. Alexander Pierce (Captain America: The Winter Soldier)
Tumblr media
Robert Redford plays the creepy Hydra dude very well and there’s something genuinely sinister about Pierce that especially comes through with his willingness to kill twenty million people. Pierce’s only downfall is that he’s a non-enhanced villain among many super-powered heroes and villains. So for all his sinister acting, Pierce just comes off as a little bit powerless. Not that this at all negates Redford’s performance or the strings Pierce pulls within SHIELD, it’s just that his lack of genuine power is something you can’t help but think about.
13. Justin Hammer (Iron Man 2)
Tumblr media
I maintain that the only saving grace of Iron Man 2, aside from the newly cast Don Cheadle as Rhodey, is Sam Rockwell’s Justin Hammer. He brings genuine humour to an otherwise joyless film and acts as a worthy adversary to Tony Stark. Also, his dancing during the Stark Expo? Worth watching the film for. I’d be very happy to see him return, although it might be a little late due to the fact that Iron Man may be about to make his exit in Avengers 4. RIP Justin, maybe another time my dude.
12. Obadiah Stane (Iron Man)
Tumblr media
Here he is, the villain that started it all. Jeff Bridges’ Iron Monger makes for a genuinely chilling, unsettling villain whose calmness is probably his most terrifying trait. At the centre of any good film, especially a Marvel film, is a good, compelling villain and Bridges manages this with ease. Unlike the two Iron Man sequels, this is an Iron Man villain who genuinely feels like he’s up to taking down Stark.
11. Kaecilius (Doctor Strange)
Tumblr media
Kaecilius is yet another chilling villain played by the brilliant Mads Mikkelson who, much like Stane, feels like a match to the protagonist. But what put Kaecilius ahead of him for me is the fact that he believes what he’s doing is completely right; he thinks he’s granting everyone eternal life, rather than enslaving them to Dormammu (who won’t be included because of his lack of screen time/only redeeming quality being his massive face). This alongside some kickarse magical abilities just puts him up a bit more. Time for the top ten!
10. Helmut Zemo (Captain America: Civil War)
Tumblr media
Daniel Bruhl goes full Bond villain for this one. Civil War in itself is a movie packed full of conflict at its core, so it takes a pretty memorable villain to make a mark on a film like this. Bruhl’s Helmut Zemo pulls all the strings behind the Avengers’ downfall and does so with a lot of sinister energy. But at the same time, we’re compelled to feel sorry for the fact that he lost his family in Sokovia during Age of Ultron. I think we’re probably going to see this guy making a return in future.
9. The Grandmaster (Thor: Ragnarok)
Tumblr media
I love Jeff Goldblum. Everyone loves Jeff Goldblum. And while he plays more of a minor villain role in Ragnarok, I think he made much more of a mark and delivered a more compelling, genuinely funny performance than any other Thor villain. So it’d be pretty amazing to see him come back for a future film. Especially if Taika Waititi has something to do with it.
8. Ulysses Klaue (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Black Panther)
Tumblr media
It’s pretty rare to see Andy Serkis in the flesh in a film rather than behind a lot of CGI and this character couldn’t have been played by anyone else. With Klaue being the second of two minor villains in this list alongside the Grandmaster, Klaue most makes his presence felt in Black Panther where he more than holds his own alongside Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger (who we’ll get to later).  Andy Serkis brings a hell of a lot of humour and genuine manic energy to this role and this is near enough his best performance. It’s just a shame that Ulysses Klaue is unlikely to return, considering the fact he was a shot multiple times during Black Panther.
7. Red Skull (Captain America: The First Avenger)
Tumblr media
Here is a villain that more than deserves his spot in the top ten. Arguably one of the most memorable villains of Marvel’s first phase, Hugo Weaving plays the angry clever Nazi scarily well. What makes him so great is the fact that he’s the complete antithesis to Captain America, which just makes the conflict between them seem more interesting. Plus, come on, it’s Hugo Weaving. He’s in every good film ever. What a guy.
6. Ego (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2)
Tumblr media
Kurt Russell’s Ego places this high for many reasons, mainly the fact that he doesn’t present himself as the villain until towards the end of the film and yet the film functions perfectly without a central antagonist (I love Guardians 2 a lot. This will become obvious probably). Ego even retains the parts of his character that you originally related to before he goes full bad guy and tries to cover all the planets in blue marshmallow fluff. Other than a couple of misplaced jokes (’I’m gonna go take a whiz’), Ego is a near-perfect Marvel villain.
5. Vulture (Spider-Man Homecoming)
Tumblr media
I struggle to call this guy a villain, even though he undoubtedly is. Everything he does is out of a place of concern for his family and the only murder he commits in the whole of the film was an accident. Okay, so this doesn’t necessarily make him a good person, but what makes him any better than the Netflix Punisher? Or Deadpool? Anyway, kind of irrelevant, Michael Keaton plays his second bird super-character in the same way he plays all of his roles; amazingly. One of the main elements of Homecoming that made it such a genuinely good reboot was an interesting, relatable villain that you struggle to hate (apart from maybe when he’s pummeling Spidey into the ground at the end, that hurt my feelings).
4. Loki (Thor, The Avengers)
Tumblr media
You can’t really call Loki a villain anymore, similarly to Bucky, M’Baku and Nebula (her especially, if she isn’t a full time guardian by the third one I’m not gonna be happy), he’s undergone a redemption arc that hasn’t negated his mischievous behaviour, but just makes sure the good parts of his character shine through a little more (that’s why I’ve only listed the two films in which I would class Loki as a villain). Tom Hiddleston plays Loki in a very sinister way, but more importantly with an overriding sense of fun. He perfectly strikes a balance between being a funny villain whilst still maintaining his sense of power.
3. Thanos (Avengers: Infinity War)
Tumblr media
Speaking of sense of power, it crushed my heart a little to see Loki get so easily offed at the beginning of Infinity War, making Loki’s usually undeniably effective plots seem like cheap parlor tricks (to be fair, all he did was pretend he wasn’t going to stab him, but I guess if Loki’s desperate, you know everyone’s fucked at that point). Aside from all that, Thanos easily is the most terrifying character in the MCU, purely because of sheer power. Josh Brolin plays him (and Cable too) with overflowing gravitas and a threatening aura that seems to be present in everything he does. Even if he is inevitably defeated in Avengers 4, the mark he’s left on the MCU is gonna sting the survivors for some time (Sidenote: if any Guardian turns out to be permanently dead, I will officially never get over that. Yondu was bad enough).
2. Hela (Thor: Ragnarok)
Tumblr media
Cate Blanchett as the first central female MCU villain (as well as the goddess of death) is iconic. Hela presents the same threatening, overly powerful aura that Thanos has and does every despicable act with a sense of sadistic humour. If I had the choice to bring back one villain, it would be Hela, because I very much doubt she died when Surtur squished Asgard, so her lasting mark may end up being equal to Thanos’. Or maybe she’ll turn out to be Lady Death? So many possibilites but to be honest, as long as they bring her back, I’m up for anything.
1. Killmonger (Black Panther)
Tumblr media
Who else was it going to be? Black Panther in itself was an iconic film, not just for its cultural significance, but also for breaking the usual Marvel mold with its narrative. And at the centre of all this is Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger, who perfectly strikes the balance between someone you love to hate and hate to love. But most of all, Killmonger’s death holds the most emotion of any villain-centric moment for me, as the ever brilliant T’Challa takes him up to see Wakanda’s sunset before he dies. But overall, what puts Killmonger ahead of all the others is the fact that everything he’s doing could easily be seen as morally correct, just not in its execution. All Killmonger wanted in the end was to arm and support his oppressed brothers and sisters, which highlights the film’s political message. Among irrelevant whip-wielding Russian scientists and endless business people in metal suits, Killmonger stands out as a villain you can side with as easily as the hero and is a villain I find it the most difficult to show any dislike for. (Totally not relevant, but Michael B. Jordan plays a good character in a cool indie film called Chronicle that came out a few years ago. If you're planning on watching a film anytime this week, I highly recommend you watch it, it will blow you away)
Phew. That took a while. Thanks for reading if you made it this far and feel free to let me know your top picks for MCU villains! If I do another Marvel list, will probably be the actual films next.
Have a good day/night my dudes
