Hello lovelies!

Since many of you actually replied yes to the poll, I think I'll bite the bullet earlier and expedite things for the gift exchange!

For those of you who don’t know what a gift exchange is, well it’s basically a Secret Santa where you sent a prompt and someone in the fandom will reply with something (a drabble, micro fic, a drawing, edit, moodboard, etc.) by December 28th, just to make the end of the year a bit more cheerful.

To participate you just have to fill this form by November 29th. 

A few guidelines (this is long but necessary but I'll put it under the cut):

This is a fun event, for everyone involved. Please keep in mind this if you decide to participate, if you want to join the fun but can't make a gift that's okay too! Sharing is caring so share the event and the works, and of course like/comment/etc!

Respect each other. This is a hard rule, if you start bashing anyone for their preferences you will be taken out from the list. It is important to know that we have differences but that doesn't mean we need to spread hate around our fun groups.

Ship and let ship. There is a space for everyone, and we will try to make it so, there are a lot of Jily shippers in my mutuals, but if this spread to other ships and part of the fandom this will be welcomed, and respected, even if we all agree to disagree.

Communicate. If you have any issues whatsoever with the timeframes, the prompts, etc, please communicate. We want everyone to have a gift by the end of the year. If you can not make it, or need more time, or whatever it is, we will understand, we have backup creators in case something happens.

All creations should be posted on December 28th. Extensions can be granted if informed.

Other things:

The non sensitive information will be shared in a general document, this way if anyone loses their prompt they can go back and check it there.

We’ll have a general list of triggers. We send all the triggers to the Gift Givers so they know not to put things in their works. However, if you prefer to be anonymous about it we will just add the triggers to a full list that the creators need to mind not to us.

The date of publishing is December 28th, your timezone. This is so we all get surprised by the same date.

Tumblr: You can draft the post or add it to the queue if you finish it earlier. Or you can submit it to me and I’ll post it at the proper time.

AO3: there will be a hidden collection in AO3 that will reveal itself at Dec 28th so you can publish there and no one would see the work until then. 

FF.net: There is no queueing in that site, you can draft and publish on that date.

None of the above: You can submit it to me and I’ll post it at the proper time.

All The Young Dudes by MsKingBean89 (completed)

You know her and you love her. I actually started this fic in early 2021 and absolutely devoured the first 150 chapters. I stopped because I was really busy and then I didn’t come back to it because I just didn’t want it to end. I finally managed to finish her though!  It’s just absolutely amazing. It follows Remus through the 7 years at Hogwarts and beyond into the war. ATYD is pretty canon compliant except in parts of Remus background, as in the fic he was given to an orphanage at a young age. This story is just  heartwarming but absolutely tragic (honestly mostly tragic). Please, please read it if you are late to the party like me. It is a big commitment at 188 chapters but honestly it flies by because of how good it is.

just lovers (like we are supposed to be) by zzepazariel (completed)

You’ve probably heard of this one by now because of zzepazariel’s Crimson River fame (which I have also not read yet). I really enjoyed this fanfic. It’s a James/Regulus fake dating to real dating story that I really loved. It had a decent amount of angst but lots of fluff to help heal the hurt. This story made me love James even more than I already did, he is just all around very lovely in this.

A modern and muggle world au that is Regulus Black centric with a background wolfstar. Regulus is a swimmer in high school who is dealing with a hard family life and the immense pressures of being an athlete. Usually I’m not super into sports related things, but I found this fic to be really compelling. It includes Regulus and Sirius reconnecting after many years of being estranged and having to rebuild their relationship. I really enjoyed the portrayal of Reg dealing with the mental health issues he was struggling with, sports trauma, and his parents no-so-great parenting. The mental health issues that Regulus struggles with in this story are very relatable to me which made me love this fic even more. I also hadn’t really read anything with Regulus as a central character until this fic so it was a really good introduction.

Hello, I've been trying to find a fic for close to a week but with no luck so I really hope you or your followers can help me! What I remember is that it was during their Hogwarts years, Harry and Draco were together(or not) and they were sneaking young Slytherins out because it wasn't safe. Andromeda was involved in the process. One part I remember was that Ted Tonks was captured and Draco set him free. And spoiler!! I remember Andromeda dying. It was Wolfstart too. Thank you for your help!

Remus sat on the edge of his bed, careful not to wrinkle his suit too much. His fingers were folded tightly over his lap, his leg bouncing up and down from nerves. He had left work half an hour early to shower and prepare for Sirius' arrival; he didn't realize the man would be so late.

It was already quarter past when there was a knock on the door, startling Remus out of his thoughts. The artist stood up, attempted to smooth out his pants, and headed towards the entrance of his flat. When he opened the door, he was greeted with the smug half-smirk of Sirius Black.

"Hello, Mr. Lupin."

"Um… hello, Si— Mr. Black"

Remus held his hand out. Sirius glanced down at it as if this was the first time anyone had offered him a handshake. After a momentary pause, he grasped Remus' hand firmly before pulling away.

"Are you going to invite me in, or shall I stay out here all evening?"

I'd rather the latter, to be honest.

Remus forced a smile on his lips and moved out of the way, motioning for Sirius to head inside. 

"Please," he said, his tone overly polite. "Come in."

Sirius entered the apartment, stopping in the centre of the room and gazing around. As he watched the gallery owner analyze the tiny flat, Remus' heart sank. 

"Charming," Sirius muttered, loud enough for Remus to hear. The artist narrowed his eyes in anger, his nails digging into the palms of his hands. 

"I'm sure it's not as nice as you're used to," Remus retorted, trying— and failing— to keep the contempt and loathing out of his voice. He was beginning to regret ever meeting Sirius Black. 

"No, it's not," Sirius mumbled, heading towards an easel in the corner of the room. Remus opened his mouth to answer, but Sirius cut him off. "What's this?"

Remus glanced over at the painting and his heart skipped a beat; he had forgotten that he was working on that specific piece earlier in the day. He had intended to put it away before Sirius arrived, but it had slipped his mind.

"It— it's just a painting," Remus insisted, heading towards Sirius and the easel in the hopes of redirecting the gallerist's attention. "Something I was working on this morning..."

"I like this one." 

You would.

The painting was of an image that Remus had been struggling to shake from his mind all week: piercing grey eyes and a sharp jawline, refined features that exuded confidence. It was a face that was impossible for Remus to forget, despite how hard he tried. 

"I have others. This one isn't finis— "

Sirius turned around, leering at Remus, a predatory smirk crossing his lips. He straightened his posture and ran a hand through his hair, brushing his bangs from his eyes. He cocked a perfectly sculpted eyebrow and simply stared. Remus opened his mouth and closed it, vaguely resembling a distraught fish, before finally finding his words.

"Mr. Black, I can— "

Sirius took a step towards Remus, raising a hand to the artist's face, his fingers barely grazing against skin. Remus felt his face ignite, his cheeks burning beneath the heat of Sirius' gaze. Grey eyes flicked down and up again, analyzing the man standing before them.

"Mr. Lupin, there are easier ways to get my attention."

"That wasn't—" Remus stammered, taking a step back and almost tripping over a can of gesso.

"I've had plenty of portraits commissioned in my time, but none have captured me quite so… genuinely."

"This isn't—" 

"There's no need to be shy, Mr. Lupin. You wouldn't be the first artist who's been quite taken with me."

"I'm not— "

Sirius took another step forward, leaning into Remus' personal space, intrusive and purposeful. As his lips neared Remus', the artist raised his hands, placing them firmly on the other man's chest, before pushing him away.

"Stop! Mr. Black, what the hell are you doing?!"

Sirius stumbled back from the force of Remus' shove, pausing for a moment before collecting himself. He swept his hair out of his eyes and grinned at Remus, as if nothing was amis. 

"Making sure your intentions are pure. I don't want an artist who wants to show in my gallery as a way of getting into my pants after all." Sirius gave a nonchalant shrug, feigning innocence. Despite the smile on his lips, Remus could have sworn that he noticed a flash of disappointment clouding silver eyes and a subtle flush creeping across porcelain cheeks. 

"Trust me," Remus growled, barely containing his disdain for the other man, "I have absolutely no intention of doing anything of the sort. I am a professional." He emphasised his last word with a venomous bite, seeing past Sirius' feigned innocence.

"Good," Sirius shot back, a glint of malice in his intense gaze.

"Good," Remus spat, squaring his shoulders and clenching his jaw.

Sirius gave Remus a once over, from his toes to the tip of his curls, before running a hand through his hair and turning around. 

"I've seen enough. I'll let you know my decision in the near future, Mr. Lupin." Sirius began striding towards the front door before Remus had a chance to absorb his words.

"Wait!" 

Sirius glanced over his shoulder, cocking an eyebrow, the edge of his mouth curling upwards ever so slightly.

"Yes?"

"I…" Remus didn't want Sirius to leave on a bad note; the artist knew it would have a direct effect on his career. "I'm sorry. I just… please, Mr. Black, I would very much like to show in your gallery." In his mind, Remus knew it was pathetic to resort to grovelling, but he didn't have very many options available to him.

Sirius raised his chin, his smirk growing wider. Remus noted how much the gallerist enjoyed being in the position of power, the way he relished in Remus' pleading.

"It takes a strong work ethic and a consistent style to be able to show with me. Is that something you're prepared for, Mr. Lupin?"

"Yes." Remus knew he had what it took to impress Sirius Black, now he just needed to keep his temper around the insufferable man. "I'm prepared for anything."

"Very well. We'll be in touch regarding my decision."

In an instant, Sirius was gone and Remus was left alone in his tiny flat, feeling frustrated and humiliated. Black and White had better provide some fantastic opportunities to make this whole song and dance worth the trouble.

So in this ask before I had said I find openings really difficult, but I will add here that I also find endings just as hard. Even if I know where a fic is going, like I can see the terrain and you know, the runway, it's really hard to land a plane when you're new to flying and you've got a cabin full of people who you'd really like to hear clapping when they reach their final destination, ya know?

So this is probably leaning more toward a WIP so maybe this answer is cheating, but I haven't actually started writing it yet so technically it still counts, right? It's my Nick Hornby inspired fic. Sirius is a former child actor from a big franchise who's blurred into obscurity since said franchise ended/since growing up. Remus's partner is obsessed with finding him for a documentary podcast he's making, and Remus couldn't care less. Until he does care.

Okay, this is a very unpopular opinion but hear me out, okay? I don't think wolfstar would be parents.

Think about it, Remus didn't even want a child with Tonks to begin with. He literally ran away when he found out she was pregnant. I don't doubt that he loved Teddy and was overall glad that he was born, but he never would have voluntarily have a child. He's terrified of responsibility. He especially would never have a biological child. Like it or not, Remus is kind of flighty. He's scared of commitment. He's very insecure. I don't think he would want to be a dad if he had a choice.

And Sirius. His godfathering was...kind of a disaster. I know that the circumstances were far from ideal and he couldn't really be there for Harry in the way he should've. But just looking at his personality, I don't think he would be a good dad. He's very reckless and...extreme. When he's in a bad mood, he shuts everyone and everything out. We see this in OoTP. He hides in his room and broods. I don't blame him. I would too. He's very rash and doesn't think before he says or does things. I think he would want a child, but be very unprepared by the amount of work it takes and he doesn't have the ability to not take things personally. If he gets in fight with his kid, even if it's just about something simple, like not doing their homework or something,...lets just say I would not like to be that child. In an ideal situation where James and Lily are still alive, Sirius would have been a great godfather. But I don't think he would be a very good father.

And even before he was in azkaban, he wouldn't have been a great parent. Basing this just on the flashbacks we have from snape's memory and what we know from other sources. I hate to bring this up but let's talk about the prank. We all know what I'm talking about. We don't know what led up to him doing that but I will just assume that Sirius was already having a bad day and then Snape was a dick to him so he decided to get some payback. I don't believe he had truly malicious intent. He wanted to spook Snape for sure. Maybe intimidate him or something. But he didn't want to get Snape killed. But he didn't think it through. He never does. He's all action and no planning. He's terribly impatient and not really fit to have sole responsibility of a child.

Don't get me wrong. I know that I'm criticizing these characters an awful lot. But I still very much ship them and love them more than life itself. I actually see myself in Sirius more than I'd like to admit. And they are both good people deep down but they certainly have flaws and that's honestly why I love them so much. It sucks when characters are perfect. It's boring.

I'm not going to call people out or criticize people who write/read fics with wolfstar as parents. They are very cute. But I'm just speaking from an objective standpoint, based on evidence, they wouldn't be parents. Or they wouldn't be good parents together.

📝 What is one growth area you have for your writing?

I'd love to get better at planning and writing plot! usually i go about writing with 'i want my character to feel like x' and then make something happen to get them there. i want to write plot so that it's more intentional and i have reasons for why things are happening the way they are. and i feel like that'll improve the whole work. also would love to actually edit properly. i sometimes don't give myself a chance to really go through what i've written and i feel like lots of small things in my writing would be improved by better editing!
