Insights come, through original content

It's definitely worth the time, to watch as much original content as possible. BIG note to self.

I've watched all four seasons of Bon Voyage, and just finished the four years of Summer Package. Lots of stuff that I have seen bits and pieces of before, in a lot of compilation videos and "analysis" videos. VERY interesting to see all of it within it's original context, in each show.

Yeah, there's a bit of Jikookery as people call it, in some of it. Most of it I had seen out of context, during my first couple of years in the fandom (when I didn't have any idea about anything). There are a few moments here and there that I haven't seen before which are primarily touches, and super subtle stuff.

The interesting thing is how people have taken so many of those moments out of context to support a story that they are presenting, in their compilations or "analysis". Yes, it can be said that other parts of the fandom have done the same thing, for the same purpose.

One of the moments from BV in Malta that everyone has seen comes to mind, here as I type. It is when they are all at a restaurant, and Jimin and Jungkook are seated across from each other. They reach out at the same time, to offer a bite of food to each other. That is a favorite clip that j-kookers love to use, to prove their theory. I mean, I do think it is cute and sweet, and I do believe that Jimin and Jungkook are together (in a closeted relationship), I just think that it's really a disservice when people leave out the other part of that scene. You know, when Jimin is then offering bites of his food to the other members, too. It wasn't just a Jimin and Jungkook thing, like is portrayed in many of the YT videos I have seen...

The other things I noted are how the editing was just so chopped up and discombobulated at times. Like When you see Jimin literally sitting down right next to Jungkook and then suddenly it is edited and next thing you see is Jimin on the opposite side of the group, not sitting where he had just sat down a second before. lol... Yeah, there's a TON of that crappy editing in all of the series and shows. I'm guessing that as they got into 2017, 2018, 2019 that they had to do a lot more editing as Jimin and Jungkook kinda started being more open with their antics. lol...

I kind of understand why people like to create those videos over on YT. There's thousands of them probably, and literally millions of viewers who like that type of thing. I was one who watched a bunch of it, as I mentioned before. It was before I understood what a lot of it was, and before I understood how much manipulation there was.

What's next on tap for me? I'm not sure. There's a ton of content still for me to make my way through. It has been enlightening to say the least. I do see the shift in the way that Jimin and Jungkook were from the early years into 2019, from what I have watched so far. There's so much there that clearly shows that they had particular types of experiences with each other, behind closed doors. I mean, anyone who has ever had a lover would see it in their energy(if you sense or see energy) and in the way that they would touch each other. It is as clear as the sun in the sky.

I can only imagine the complexities that the members had to navigate in their relationships with each other, their communication of how they felt to each other, and in working out HOW to have two members in a close intimate relationship within the group. Talk about a complicated situation. That puts it mildly. No wonder Namjoon had so many moments when they were in front of cameras, audiences, interviewing and such. No freakin' wonder.

Sorry for this long ramble..... I've just been thinking a lot about them and about what I have seen in these shows. Like I have mentioned, I hadn't seen much of the original stuff that was on Weverse, sold on DVD, or behind pay walls. I didn't actually understand what the heck "Summer Package" meant! lol... There's a TON of content that I have still to watch. This will be an ongoing thing for me, during these months while we wait for June 2025. There's probably going to be more rambles like this one, to come.... 😁💜

After Suguru became a criminal, and Gojo having a difficult time with his best friend's different path, he had broken up with her.  She knew he needed time to himself, and she probably did as well. But because of that, she had decided to leave Japan after graduation and work on missions around the world. 

As the years progressed, they hadn't seen each other in a very long time, and as she watched her new friends fall in and out of love, Y/N couldn't help but wonder what had become of him.

One rainy afternoon, Y/N decided to clean out her old high school memory boxes. As she sifted through boxes of old letters, photographs, and trinkets, she stumbled upon an old DVD with a handwritten label that read, "Satoru's Surprise." Curiosity piqued, she dusted off the case the DVD was in, and popped the disc in her TV.

As the tape started playing, she saw Satoru, the man she fell for in high school. As she listed to his voice, she couldn't help but remember how it was filled with youthful excitement. "Hey there, beautiful. If you're watching this, you've just stumbled upon a treasure trove of memories. I thought it'd be a fun idea to make a recording for you, just in case we ever found ourselves missing each other." Now she knew why he carried around that camera everywhere they went.

Y/N's heart skipped a beat as she listened to his words, her eyes filling with tears. The DVD was filled with moments from their high school days – their first date, the time they'd watched a meteor shower together, and even their silly arguments. Satoru's voice filled the room, his laughter and sweet nothings echoing through the years. The memories flooded back, and Y/N couldn't help but smile and shed a few tears.

As Y/N continued to watch to the screen, it was as if she had been transported back in time to those precious moments with Satoru. She laughed at their inside jokes, teared up when he recounted their heartfelt conversations, and sighed with contentment as he talked about their dreams for the future. This was a time capsule of their love, capturing the essence of their young and passionate romance.

As the recording reached its conclusion, Satoru's voice became more serious. "I don't know where life will take us, Y/N, but I hope we'll always hold on to the love we have right now. No matter where we are or what we're doing, remember that there's a piece of my heart that belongs to you."

Y/N was overwhelmed with emotions. She had longed to hear Satoru's voice for years, and now, thanks to this unexpected discovery, she felt like he was right there with her. It was as if they had been reunited through time and space.

After the tape ended, Y/N sat in silence for a few moments, her heart beating with anticipation. She wondered if Satoru was thinking of her, too, and if he still held a piece of her heart as well. With a deep breath, she picked up her phone and dialed his number, hoping he would answer.

To her surprise, he picked up on the first ring. "Y/N?" His voice was practically the same, which sent shivers down her spine.

"Satoru," she breathed, feeling her cheeks flush with emotion. "I just found your dvd you made for me. I...I had to call you."

There was a pause on the other end of the line, and Y/N wondered if she had made a mistake. Maybe it was too late for them, and they had both moved on with their lives. But then Satoru spoke, his voice filled with longing.

"Y/N, I've missed you. I've thought about you every day since we last saw each other. I know I was the one who ended things, but I still thought about you all the time.”

Y/N's heart swelled with hope. Maybe they still had a chance.

"I've missed you too, Satoru," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. "I can't stop thinking about you, even after all these years."

There was a moment of silence, and then Satoru spoke again, his voice laced with determination.

"Then let's not waste any more time. Let's meet up, Y/N. Let's see if what we had is still there."

Y/N's heart leaped with joy at his words, and she couldn't help but smile.

"I'd like that," she said softly.

And so, they made plans to meet up in Tokyo within a few days, at the same spot where they had shared their first kiss. Y/N couldn't help but feel nervous as she stepped off the plane that morning and made her way to the meeting spot. What if they had both changed too much? What if they didn't feel the same connection they once did?

But as she turned the corner and saw him standing there, his signature white hair and sharp features bathed in the soft glow of the sunlight, all her doubts melted away. Satoru turned towards her, his eyes locking on hers, and for the first time in years, Y/N felt like she was home.

They embraced tightly, their bodies pressed together, and Y/N breathed in his scent, a mixture of cologne and something that was uniquely him.

"I've missed you so much," Satoru murmured into her ear, and Y/N felt her eyes fill with tears.

"I've missed you too," she whispered back, her heart racing as their bodies pressed closer together. For a moment, they just stood there, lost in each other's arms, and it seemed like time had stood still.

As they pulled away from each other, Satoru took Y/N's hand and led her to a nearby park. They sat on a bench, surrounded by cherry blossoms, their fingers intertwined. Satoru looked at Y/N, his eyes filled with a mix of emotions: longing, regret, and hope.

"I'm sorry, Y/N," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I'm sorry for everything that happened between us. I should have fought harder to keep us together. Just- everything felt like it was caving in all at once"

Y/N shook her head, her fingers tightening around his. "It's not your fault, Satoru. We both made mistakes. I shouldn’t have left Japan, and stayed doing missions here."

They sat in silence for a few moments, just enjoying each other's company and the beauty of the park. Then, Satoru turned towards her, his eyes shining with determination.

"I don't want to let go of you again," he said. "I want us to try again, to make new memories, and to see if the love we once had can be rekindled."

Y/N smiled, her heart soaring with happiness. "I want that too, Satoru. I've never stopped loving you."

And so, under the cherry blossoms in that serene park in Tokyo, Y/N and Satoru decided to give their love a second chance. They had both grown and changed over the years, but their connection remained as strong as ever. As they leaned in for a kiss, it felt like a promise of a new beginning, a chance to rewrite their love story.

The world around them disappeared, and in that moment, it was just the two of them, surrounded by the memories of their past and the hope of a future together. They had found each other again, and this time, they were determined not to let go.

As they kissed under the cherry blossoms, the world seemed to come alive with possibilities, and Y/N knew that their love story was far from over. It was a story of second chances, of rekindled love, and of two souls who had always belonged together.

And so, with the memories of their high school love rekindled and a bright future ahead, Y/N and Satoru began their journey to rebuild what they had lost and create new, beautiful memories together.

Steps To Take Before You Donate:

A guide from someone who works at a thrift store and has seen some things. This is generalized and not specific to the store I work at.

The first step for ALL of these sections is to look at what you have. Is it something you would give to a friend or relative? No? Then don’t donate it. (Examples of things not to donate: moldy clothes, a soiled pair of pants, sticky dishes, broken mirror)

Clothes and Linens (aka soft lines)

Look to see if your clothes are wet, moldy, or have bodily fluids on them. These types of items will end up at the landfill if you donate them. Just save employees the horror and throw away your own garbage

Don’t donate used underwear or socks, but bras are fine

If the clothes are dirty, wash them (please)

If you want to be super helpful to processors, separate halloween costumes and shoes into different bags or boxes. These items all get processed separately in stores

Donate it even if its ‘poor quality’. Clothing not sold in stores gets sent to textile recyclers

All of this applies to linens (such as blankets and sheets) as well

Electronics

If you have any large items, call the store ahead of time to make sure they are willing to take it. Not all stores have big warehouses for large items. If not, try a different store or chain

Check for any chewed on, or exposed wire. Thrift stores can’t sell these items for safety purposes

If you don’t have a wire or charger for the electronic, ensure that it will stay with the item (tape or rubber bands will work well for this) if an item can’t be tested in store to see if it works, it will not be sold in a typical retail store. It will likely be sent straight to an outlet store

If you are planning on donating a TV (small or big) call the store first, some are able to take them and some are not. Check with them first so they don’t have to turn you away after you get there

If the computer doesn’t work completely, donate it anyway, most thrift stores send them to get refurbished and their memory wiped

Books/Media

Do your books have mold on them or are the pages damp? Don’t donate them

Are the disks so scratched up that they don’t play? Don’t donate them

Stores do accept VHS tapes and cassettes!

If you are donating a bunch of loose disks without cases, keep them together in a bag or a box

If you only have a case for a game (NOT DVD), donate it! People actually buy those

Separate your books and media from other items you are donating, as these get processed separately

Shoes (usually sorted into hard lines but may vary depending on the chain)

If your shoes have bodily fluids on them, or even just some left over dog poop, either clean them or don’t donate them. No one wants to touch that

Even if your shoes have been worn to hell and back (and are not gross), donate them! Just like clothes, if they aren’t sold, most stores will recycle them

Do your best to keep pairs together! Either in a box, tie the laces together, or use a rubber band!

(We do actually love getting shoes donated in their boxes - it makes it a lot easier to sort than a giant garbage bag full of loose shoes)

If you aren’t sure what category shoes fall into at the store you are donating to, just ask! We would much rather that than find shoes in unexpected places!

Furniture

Does it require repairs? Don’t donate it, try a local yard sale site instead

Is it big? Call ahead and make sure the store has space for it

Not every store accepts mattresses/beds/bed frames. Call ahead and ask

If you have a rug, has an animal gone to the bathroom on it? Yeah? Don’t donate that

Side note: if you just bought a big piece of furniture from a thrift store, bring some buddies to help you pick it up. And a big enough vehicle. Our donation door workers are still people and can only do so much to move a giant glass table and fit it into your kia soul when you decide to pick it up 30 minutes before we close

Other Items (aka hard lines)

Put your jewelry together and separate from other items. That way we dont only find one earing

No already lit or used candles that are more than halfway gone, find ways to up cycle them, or see if a friend would like them instead!

No one wants your used bedroom toys. Please no. Im begging you just throw them away if you dont want them

If there are nails sticking out of it, or someone could get hurt on it, wrap it and write a note. Same goes for knives. I can’t even begin to express how many times I’ve almost cut off a finger while reaching into a box of donations

Wooyoung is a little stinker and he loves attention, so if you aren’t paying him any he’ll probably mess with you! Or just tease you for a reaction 😘 but he never takes it too far, he likes things like flirtatiously taking things from you or if you’re shorter hiding things away where he can reach them. He also adores sneaking up on you and startling you 🥲 Yunho is more the type to come up with a reallllly convincing story then see you repeat something ridiculous to someone else and laugh or tell you the wrong name for something to hear you say something funny. For physical pranks it’s more like spontaneously hoisting you into his arms and running off with you, offering to feed you then letting a little whipped cream smash on your face, little playful things like that. Jongho is the most traditional prankster where he will set up an actual practical joke like sneakily buying a Halloween decoration that startled you and hiding it to laugh at your reaction again. He also is guilty of having set up scares for you just so he can comfort you 🤕

Yeosang tends to be more verbal with it, like he enjoys teasing or exposing you, but this is all in the same vein so I think that from time to time he’d enjoy reaching over and messing with a task you were doing or grabbing the controls on a game you were playing and giving his little laugh when you pout or call out his name on response 😁 The others probably convince him to try the whipped cream on hand prank when you guys have been sharing a bet for long enough so he shrugs and goes ok, why not? Hongjoong can be a little bit of a stinker when his goofy side comes out, so he doesn’t do it as often but I think he would also be the type to do things like stealing your game pieces. That or he gets extremely creative and tell you you’re watching a scary movie but he just, like, printed out the dvd insert for one and put it over the barbie movie or something. He really doesn’t like potentially harmful pranks, like the most he would do is sneak up on you and startle you. Mingi, like Yeosang, kind of takes input from the others, like they ask him wouldn’t it be funny if he put plain water or lemon juice in a can of your favorite drink and took a lil video of your reaction? And he’s like ooh yeah I guess you’re right! And that’s how he ends up with that video of you making a hilarious scrunched up face on his phone. If you go to a haunted house, he’ll jokingly grab you and use you as a human shield.

Seonghwa is not one for practical jokes and screwing with you very much. He is very sweet to you and doesn’t like to see you even potentially upset or uncomfortable. The most he would do is, like Yunho, get messy feeding you or do something like a corny hallmark Christmas movie flour fight when you guys bake 🤍 San is the same way, also very emotional and he hates feeling too teased or bullied, so he doesn’t want to turn that feeling on you! He much prefers making you feel protected and safe so it’s more likely someone else messes with you and San pulls you close and tells them to stop, chest puffing out a little. Every now and again he’ll get you with some teasing banter or grab your phone and take selfies on it, those are his version of ‘pranks’ 🥰

Ninjago - Lloyd Finding Out You're a Dragon-Oni Hybrid

The smell of popcorn wafted through your apartment. You listened to the rapid popping from your living room, where you were busy setting out enough blankets and pillows to make a bed of thorns comfortable. Just about every square inch of the place was covered by a blanket, a pillow, or a plushie. You put your hands on your hips, admiring your work with a smile.

You rushed to the kitchen, just in time to pull the popcorn off the stove. You poured it into a big bucket, completing a set of three such containers already filled with popcorn. You sprinkled salt over the buckets, tasting a piece from each one to make sure it tasted okay. It was, of course, delicious. You had to stop yourself from eating more.

Popcorn popped, chilled sodas waiting on the counter, living room cozied up—everything was ready for the perfect movie night.

As if on cue, a knock sounded at your door. You hurried to open it, a broad smile already on your face to greet your friends. “Hi guys! Come on in, everything’s ready.”

“Oooh, I can smell the popcorn!” Cole shoved past his friends, eager to dig into the snacks already.

“Don’t eat it all before we even start the movie,” Kai warned, hurrying after him.

“Speaking of,” you said, “what movie did you pick out?”

“It was my turn,” Nya grinned proudly, holding up the DVD. “Naturally I chose Friday the 13th.” 

Jay shivered. “Which I’m not looking forward to.”

“Come on,” Nya cooed, putting her arm around him. “It’s not that scary. Besides, it’s halloween! We’ve gotta watch something spooky.”

You grinned at the couple, making your way to the kitchen. Waving everyone out, you ordered them to get comfortable and cue the movie up. You would bring the snacks in for them.

You were pouring sodas into cups with ice when you heard Jay yelp.

“No way!”

Suddenly, everyone stood up and crowded into the corner of the living room. You raised an eyebrow, wondering what they could be looking at. With a sinking feeling, you remembered what was in that corner. You knew exactly what they were buzzing about. It was a picture of you in your true form; your dragon-Oni form. The one you really didn't want them to know about.

Hastily putting down the soda can you were holding, you scurried over to them. You squeezed between your friends and seized the framed picture. “Cool cosplay, right?” You chuckled nervously, trying to salvage the situation. “The horns and wings are super realistic, huh? They’re fake, though. Fake. Yeah,” you floundered, shoving the picture under the TV stand.

Your efforts were to no effect. Jay dove for the photo and pulled it out again. Your shoulder slumped in defeat as they all gathered around him to look at the picture again.

“Why didn’t you tell us you were… a dragon? Or are you an Oni? I can’t tell.”

“It would appear that Y/n is some type of hybrid,” Zane guessed.

“Yeah,” you sighed. “Half dragon, half Oni.”

“Well, that would explain why you’re so tall,” Nya observed.

Lloyd took the picture from Jay’s hands. You felt your face redden as he scrutinized it. You couldn’t tell if he was horrified or disgusted or—

“You’re really beautiful,” he breathed, not looking up from the image. He looked up to meet your dumbfounded gaze, his cheeks dusted pink and a smile playing on his lips. “Is this your true form?”

You blinked. Nodded slowly despite your thorough confusion.

“Why don’t we ever see you like this?”

“I… I didn’t want to scare you guys. I feel like I’m sort of, er, scary when I’m… like that.”

“Scare us?” Lloyd looked back at the picture, still smiling. “You could never. Not when you’re this pretty.” 

Lloyd set the picture down and took your hand. “Can I see you in your true form?”

The way his eyes twinkled made it impossible to refuse. You were still a little nervous, but you shoved those feelings aside as you remembered his words. Encouraging looks from the rest of the group convinced you. “Alright,” you muttered reluctantly.

“Wow,” Lloyd said after a second. “Even more stunning in person.”

You smiled shyly. “You mean it?”

“I do.” He took your hands in his, pecking your ruddy cheek. “Shall we watch the movie now?”

You distributed the snacks before taking a place next to Lloyd. He pulled you so that you were leaning against him, his arms around you, your head just below his chin. You could barely focus on the movie from how happy you were. Not only had your friends reacted positively to your “scary” form, but Lloyd reacted positively. He thought you were beautiful. You smiled giddily as his words replayed over and over in your mind. Beautiful. Pretty. Perhaps you’d take this form more often around him.

8 year old me (obsessed with mermaids, would play 'mermaids' in our pool with other kids, huge huge fan of every 'protag. of childrens animated show gets special necklace that lets them turn into a mermaid' show) would absolutely love where i am now. Mermaids were a big part of my childhood! I loved 'em! And i guess i never grew out of that, lmao.

Jake and the neverland pirates, barbie, dora the explorer, sofia the first... they all did it. they all had the 'human girl turns into mermaid for an episode and meets a mermaid bff'. I always loved the Dora one, i got it on DvD from my local library... good times :)

Anyways, if this was a special episode of a looking-back-the-graphics-were-terrible-but-the-music-kinda-slaps 2010's 3d animated disney channel show, Scar would 1000% have a misunderstood-villain-esque song where he maneuvers Grian (about to pass out from terror) into a dance and mourns his lack of company, complete with fish themed puns every other line, a big finish, and effects made of bubbles and sea creatures. Like, poor unfortunate souls from the little mermaid meets shiny from moana meets be our guest type beat.

I like to imagine the bubbles are the tail end of a transition to a comedic scene where grian is distracting the guards with terrible lies while scar tries to sneak into the castle where grian plans to hide him. and then the guards would almost turn and see scar and grian would have to yell 'WAIT' and come up with more bs while scar is struggling with various Shenanigans that get in his way.

My favourite Disney movie ౨ৎ

I finally decided to write my love and thoughts about this movie after never finding enough words for it. Tangled is the first 3D animated Disney movie with a disney princess and was their animated studios' 50th movie. It is loosely based on the german fairytale "Rapunzel" by the brothers Grimm from the early 1800s. Some of Disney's previous disney princess movies had also been based on the brothers Grimm fairytales. As we can see in the animated movie we're introduced to this kingdom called Corona, this place is based on the german culture and architecture along with some characters' names. The music is written and composed by the infamous Alan Menken, whom I've admired his work for as long as I can remember, he has composed for Disney multiple times such as the soundtrack for The Little Mermaid. I officially became a fan of him earlier last year when I started watching Tangled's sequel series "Rapunzel's tangled adventure" where he had also composed the music, I definitely recommend watching it if you really enjoyed the movie. One would assume it is some type of spin-off but surprisingly it connects with all the details from the original movie.

To start off with my love for this: I was never a big fan of this movie as a little kid as I am right now. Of course I knew all the words to the songs and the storyline, but I was more of a Cinderella and Frozen kid. Even so, this movie was still on repeat on my family's TV most of my childhood and I safely assume the DVD got ruined because of how much it played.

Tangled is my favourite Disney movie and have been for a very long time. I don't remember when it really got to me, but it was always a comfort movie I could watch all the time if I felt bored or didn't have any movie choices in mind. After watching it atleast once a month (unaware of the amount of rewatches), I felt emotionally attached to it and I knew I could relate to Rapunzel. She is a witty, creative, and curious 18 yr old girl who had been trapped in a tower for most of her life without knowing the true meaning about it. My favourite relatable thing about her is the amount of hobbies she mentions in "When will my life begin?". Disney did really well showing domestic abuse and passive aggression from mother Gothel, us as the viewers already know that she's the bad guy in the story but Rapunzel doesn't which makes her relationship with her feel so natural. Her realisation is one of my favourite scenes because of the recollection of her early memories. I feel the intention of this was to help young children who watches it would maybe realise if they are actually being treated badly and neglected. Of course a young kid wouldn't pick up the bits and pieces that fast but it is easy for someone to think their treatment and relationship with their parents are natural which is the same case with Rapunzel.

Now with Rapunzel's romance that I am very fond of. If you really think about the time Rapunzel and Eugene spent together and the ending of the movie, it is quite weird how they just got married already. They met a day before her 18th birthday, he was on the run and she wanted to see the "floating lights". The fact that Eugene was canonically 26 years old in the movie which can seem pretty weird, but in the series they reveal he was 23 as he turns 26 at the end of the last season. I love how they didn't make them flirty at the start of their friendship which obviously would be natural for two strangers and especially for a girl who's never talked to another human being other than her mother. Flynn Rider, the name Eugene went by, was not happy with this trip he had to do if he wanted his satchel back. It's just wholesome to watch them progress throughout the movie and the way their feelings begins to develop. I like to think Rapunzel admired him from the start, as Eugene fell for her later on. If their relationship had a trope I would definitely say the "she fell first, but he fell harder" trope. In the sequel series, they start the story some months (i think) after Rapunzel returned to her real parents. But she and Eugene hasn't been married yet, she actually said no first because she felt insecure and was still trying to be used to her new life. Their relationship took years with complicated feelings and miscommunication which is one of the best parts of the series. Me personally would've said "yes" right away to Eugene. He is probably the most handsome and dare I say best Disney man. I mean they did put a group of women at the studio to work out his best design..

This is definitely the best animated movie among Disney for me, every scene is just satisfying to watch and it's like letting your brain rest for over an hour. They captured such beautiful moments in animation and perfected it so well with dialogue and music. One of my biggest dreams would be to watch this on a big screen with a live orchestra, and possibly Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi sing too.

I also want to address the live action of Tangled because of the current rumours about the castings. As far as I know, Disney hasn't fully confirmed that the live action is in the works and everything so far is just rumours or assumptions. Only a few days ago 1-2 articles had been found informing that Disney has reportedly casted Avantika Vandanapu and Milo Manheim as Rapunzel and Eugene. This caught a huge amount of attention and controversy on social media, and my biggest problem with this is how people actually believe it. I really thought we were past believing absolute everything we see on the internet, especially from websites we've never gotten information from. Because why would a website almost no one reads suddenly have Disney's thoughts of their cast? Worst is the people believing this and being racist about it. Avantika had never been a choice in my fancast for Rapunzel as she doesn't fit her description, but that does NOT mean she shouldn't be allowed to play her as there are plenty versions of white Rapunzels from before. The people using this casting to compare it with saying "Tiana/Moana should be played by a *white woman*" are who annoy me the most in this situation. I've had multiple arguments with different people the past couple of days because of stating how comparing those two are not fair and the inaccurate casting isn't the same difference. First of all: Tiana's appearance and storyline are based on her skin colour and culture as she's an afro-american woman from the 1920s in New Orleans. In parts of her movie her "background" even gets represented as a problem for her to achieve her dream, this movie is obviously made to represent our beautiful black people in the world. Shocked they didn't get a representation until 2009. Second: Moana is based FULLY on polynesian culture and through polynesian mythology, even her voice actor was encouraged to be a part of that. Auli'i Cravalho, her voice actor, is native Hawaiian and encourages their culture along with the music Lin Manuel Miranda wrote. At last: Comparing this rumoured Rapunzel casting to Tiana or Moana is wrong as her story isn't meant for representation of oppression and not based on her skin colour. Yes, it is loosely based on the brothers Grimm's fairytale which is German and the movie does show German details in the story but things will always change and they already are. Why not let today's children grow up with beautiful characters that can let them feel as included as every white person can with the previous characters? I can say this has never been a problem to me growing up even though none of the disney princesses looked like me, it still makes children aware of it at some point and when I realised I didn't have a disney princess that looked or was based remotely on people like ME, I began hoping Disney would make a south-east Asian princess. That's why I agree that Disney should start making new disney princess movies representing more people instead of not having an accurate casting for the character but honestly, Rapunzel's SKIN colour is not that relevant to her story at all. Anyway, my fancast for Tangled has always been Meg Donnelly and Milo Manheim after watching the Zombies movies. They have great chemistry and both of them sing perfectly! I'm excited to see how this live action movie will turn out, after Halle Bailey's "The Little Mermaid" I hope it will be as amazing.

My love for Tangled is endless but to finish my review I want to thank you for reading all the way down here. If I was only allowed to watch one movie the rest of my life I might have chosen this or a 2-3 hour long just to be entertained longer. The amount of times I've watched this has made me able to recite most of the scenes and the whole film is engraved to my mind. I think if I had enough time and peace I could literally sit still and watch the movie scene by scene in my mind. Again, thank you for reading!

Recently I've made some interesting and surprising findings about mor that seem lesser known in the fandom (or maybe I just don't dig deep enough) Also I accidentally hit ctrl z while almost finishing up the post that I spent the past hour or so typing and it deleted most of what I've typed......... with tears I retyped everything again SIGH (resulting in me not proofreading any of this) 1. So I remember seeing somewhere that says mor has both Mozart and Salieri's compositions, which I thought it was false because it's all Mozart as far as I know. Until one day I actually looked at the credit a bit closer and found this:

This is the music that plays before victime de ma victoire. Mozart wrote fortepiano variations at 17 years old of Salieri's aria, so they really just used Mozart's version of Salieri's piece from one of his most popular operas???? It made me kind of mad but also this felt like a meta commentary considering it's associated with victime de ma victoire scene. It's a self aware song where Salieri is regretting, trying to come to terms of what he's done, and 'predicting' his failure. It serves as a commentary of the whole Mozart and Salieri matter beyond the scope of the show and ends in "J'ai perdu pour l'Histoire (I lost for history)." In this case it does feel like Salieri is being pushed aside in one of the worst possible ways, and I really wish some of his music could have made their ways into the musical properly. 2. I found a Playbill article talking about mor being in the middle of being adapted into English for Broadway in 2012...... which honestly I'm really glad it failed because I don't have faith that it'd be good. There's already the example of tdv, and the way they talk about it just doesn't seem... great, such as “bring shape and focus to the musical for American audiences” and "When the French write musicals, a lot of their songs are written like pop singles placed contiguous to each other, while on Broadway, it's necessary to have a storyline and a semblance of relationship.” Pop French musical isn't everyone's cup of tea and that's of course normal but the way it sounds like they're going to really Americanize it and rewrite it majorly and by storyline and relationship I take they mean needing musical motifs, reprises, and such. Just makes me feel they should just write a whole new musical?? And maybe it's just me but the tone sounds a little patronizing too? Though I do wish they could have released the cd and dvd in North America just because I'm Canadain lol Also curious if there was a time staging mor in Quebec would have been viable. 3. I spend too much of my time watching mor clips, but I've somehow never looked at performances pre proshot until recently. There were a few changes in the ~2 month (if my memory serves) between premiere and first proshot made to vivre a en crever that surprised me. First 2 screenshots from this video, and the rest from this one.

This is a little hard to see but Salieri is kneeling beside the wall as Mozart departs and it had me screaming ;; I know Laurent did kneel but I didn't know it was a thing in the French tour. This video gives a sliiiightly clearer silhouette of him kneeling but he's also blocked by Cavalieri.

Constanze running up to grab Mozart and refuse to let him go really had me by surprise and it's so heart breaking ;;;; I've been debating whether I like this better or the one that they ended up using where she just reaches out to him from the bed, because it kind of changes the tone of the scene.

What is cinematography? Hannibal edition

We know Hannibal often gets cited for its beautiful cinematography. But what does that mean, exactly?

If we talk about the cinematography of an episode, we're talking about the decisions that went into making each shot and scene and episode look just right. It's helpful to remember that at its most basic level, film (or television) is just about using some sort of camera equipment to photograph light. And when you do that, there are a ton of variables affecting the way that recorded light is going to look when you play it back.

Hannibal gets it.

Cinematography means: "We've got these amazing actors performing this great story in this scenic location, now how do we light and photograph all this stuff so that it looks exactly the way we want?"

And this is super important, because of course, the way a scene or shot looks is going to deeply affect what it makes us think and feel.

Elements of cinematography:

Lighting

Types of cameras and lenses, and how you use them

Shot distance (how close you place the camera for each shot)

Shot composition (figuring out where to place everything in each shot, including actors)

Use of color, brightness, shadow, contrast (very important in a "dark" show like this)

Camera movement

Camera angles

Depth of focus (do we want to clearly see everything that's in the shot? or do we want to have things in focus and others out of focus? should the focus change during the shot or stay the same?)

So really, when we say that a show has beautiful cinematography, we more or less mean that the way it's shot is beautiful, striking, evocative. We can tell that someone didn't just throw on some basic flat network procedural lighting and shoot from all the conventional angles. They put thought and style into it.

What does a cinematographer actually do?

The cinematographer is also called the director of photography (DP). They work closely with the director, workshopping their vision with them. They're in charge of both the camera crew and the lighting crew, deciding what they should do to make every scene look exactly the way it should. They read the script ahead of time, and they visit sets and locations before shooting to plan how they're going to tackle the look of each scene.

Director of photography might sound like kind of a secondary position, but not really! It's incredibly important. Hannibal had the same cinematographer, James Hawkinson, working on almost every single episode. This isn't always the case in television, so I think we're very lucky that he was such a consistent part of the artistic process.

Check out this interview, in which Bryan Fuller explains how when he saw Hawkinson's cinematography in action, he changed his whole approach to writing the series:

Hawkinson’s cinematography helped elevate the network show into one of the most visually exciting series ever produced for any platform. [...] Bryan Fuller and his staff had written five episodes that tried to toe the tricky line between Thomas Harris’ Hannibal Lecter novels and the structured storytelling of a network investigative procedural. “I remember leaving the edit session where we’d seen the first cut [of the pilot] and I was like, ‘We’re doing the wrong show,” said Fuller in an interview with IndieWire. “When I saw David Slade and Jim Hawkinson’s work, and really understood the artful piece that they were able to conjure for what we had, I threw out the scripts.” 

I mean, this says a lot, right? Fuller is saying that he completely rewrote the beginning of the first season, in part because Hawkinson's photography on the pilot made him realize they had the chance to reach for something deeper, something more artistic than he'd thought possible.

With new directors working on the show from week to week, and Hawkinson needing to work closely with each of them, it became part of his job to make sure they were on the right wavelength with show's vision. He talked in this interview about how he would sometimes need to "check" guest directors if their ideas didn't quite fit the Hannibal style:

There's times where I've been asked to do shots that I didn't feel were the show. And as the director of photography, keeping the aesthetics consistent from director to director, I have to protect and justify the aesthetics of the show. So that's kind of a torch that I kind of just bear, whatever director comes in. [...] Say someone has a vision of a dead person and I'll be asked by a guest director to put smoke and backlight. And I'll argue that ... as soon as you do it becomes hokey and it becomes a B-movie and it's cliché. So the horror in Hannibal is more based in some sort of reality. Yes it's heightened but ... there's nothing fantastical about it.

We can see here that Hawkinson knew the visual language of Hannibal inside and out, and he played a key part in keeping it so consistent and distinctive. The show became known for its evocative color palette, thoughtful shot compositions, and use of light and shadow -- all elements of cinematography. And as Hawkinson said, it was always important that the violence and death at the center of the show was photographed artistically, emotionally... even beautifully.

A horror image becomes moving and mysterious through cinematography.

Imagine how different this shot could have felt with a different quality of light. Or if we were looking from a different angle, or distance. Cinematography is all about making sure those elements are perfectly positioned, as much as possible, so that we see the show just the way its creative team hoped we would.

So, some background. I don’t come from the greatest of families. Was quite a neglectful household and my mom would just sit me in front of the TV while she went off and did her stupid shit. One day on my little pink TV she brought home Scream 2 on VHS. It was 2005 and I don’t think she really cared that it wasn’t appropriate for a whole child to be watching but I digress.

Anyway, 5 year old CJ watched the movie and instantly fell in love with Mickey. I watched that movie on repeat for, God, AGES although I don’t remember much of my childhood well due to repressed trauma blah blah. But regardless, rewatching Scream 2 when I was actually able to comprehend it? It hit so fucking different.

I know that was the first movie with Tim in it that I watched because there’s a picture of me that my late auntie took of me tucked up in bed watching Scream 2 and she used to tell me I’d throw a tantrum if anyone tried to take the tape away.

But the first movie I vividly remember first seeing Tim in was The Girl Next Door when I was seven. To this day I don’t know how I got a hold of that DVD (probably Blockbuster or something idk) but I was down BAD for Kelly. Like, to the point it was actually concerning. We had one family computer, an old, old piece of shit and I typed Timothy Olyphant into the fucking search engine and boom.

Beginning of the end.

Basically, the man unknowingly got me through the rough parts of my childhood and teenage life and was always something of a comfort. Now, almost to my mid-20’s, he still remains the only thing consistent. The man saved my life. He’s been my continuing fixation for years, YEARS and it won’t change any time soon. He’s just so comforting to me and always will be.
