The batkids decide to hop on the trend.
Dick, walking as Steph records: We’re vigilantes. Of course we have to be over dramatic.
(Cut to Nightwing back flipping off of Wayne tower)
Tim: were vigilantes. Of course we have issues with caffeine.
(Cut to a video of Tim as Red Robin snoring while hanging from a grappling line. Batman can be seen in the background facepalming.)
———
Damian: No.
Tim: oh come on, Robin, we’re all doing it.
Damian: I refuse to partake in such idiotic videos.
Tim: (while Damian is still behind him) We’re vigilantes. Of course we get to punch people without getting in trouble.
Damian: actually—-
Tim: Robin, you’re supposed to play along—
Damian: I am not going to spread false information—
Steph, interrupting: well, I’m not one of Batman’s sons so he legally can’t yell at me.
Tim: wanna bet?
(Cut to Batman scolding all three of them about the improper use of force)
—-
Duke: we’re vigilantes. Of course we go to Batburger.
(Cut to Duke happily eating a Batburger meal, and playing with a Signal toy)
Duke: what? I’m allowed to have hobbies.
——
Steph: we’re vigilantes. Of course we can scare anyone we want to. Right, Black Bat?
Cass: (nod)
(The next series of videos is a compilation. The first is Superman being scared, followed by Green Lantern, Flash, Cyborg, Starfire, Dick, Tim, and a failed attempt to startle Wonder Woman. Cass isn’t even upset about not being able to scare the woman, she accepts the defeat with grace.)
——-
Dick, Tim, and Steph: we’re vigilantes.
Dick: I’ve gotten stranded on the moon. Don’t ask.
Tim: I got lost in hell.
Steph: I accidentally followed Green Lantern into space.
Tim: what? When?
Steph: turns out if you hug a Green Lantern really tightly, their life support on their ring will support you too
Dick: yknow, Batman shouldn’t find out about this-
(Cut to Batman’s lecture about the proper use of protective gear when going to space)
——
Dick: we’re vigilantes. Of course we’re best friends with all of the villains.
(Cut to Red Hood kicking down a door)
Jason: hey (bleep), you’re late to dinner
Dick: (currently tied to a chair and gagged)
Jason: hang on, I’ll help. (Shoots everyone and unties dick) Harley said she’s going to rampage if you’re not there in five minutes.
Dick: Blame these guys, not me! (Jumps through the nearest window, shattering it, and the sound of a grapple is heard)
——
Jason: I’m a crime lord
Dick: and I’m a vigilante
Jason: and you’re ruining my video, (bleep) off. (Shoves Dick out of the frame, ignoring Dick’s muttered cursing) now that we got the riffraff out, let me start over. (Brushes imaginary dirt from hands) I’m a crime lord. Of course Batman fights me every other day. I look forward to the day I can break his kneecaps.
Dick: (shocked) Hood!
Jason: what?
Dick: he’s your dad too!
Jason: yuck, don’t remind me.
——-
Duke: we’re vigilantes. Of course we know all of the gossip. (Very obviously looking around) like for example, Superman has the biggest crush on Bruce Wayne—
Clark, who was obviously eavesdropping: Nonononononono—- (trying to turn the camera off as he darts into the frame. There’s a flash of red, blue and yellow as Duke and Clark fight over the camera)
——
Tim: we’re vigilantes. Of course we visit other cities.
Wally, as Kid Flash: What the (bleep) are you doing in Central City?
Tim: I’m honestly not sure, it’s so bright that I think I’m blind.

Tumblr media
 ‿̩͙‿ ༺ ♰ ༻ ‿̩͙‿   ‿̩͙‿ ༺ ♰ ༻ ‿̩͙‿
“She definitely has your eyes babe” you said gentle touching the face of your newborn daughter. She looked up at you with her bright blue eyes, just like her father. She had his eyes, and hair, honestly she was his copy.
“Yea but that smile is completely yours. Beautiful just like her mother” he said touching her cheek trying to get a smirk from the babe. It worked caused a gum filled grin to spread across her face “see! Look at that! Ugh, you did an amazing job love” he compliments you
“You know it was both of us” you try and give him credit
“Hey hey, you carried her and basically made her. It was a 10-90 job. Either way, you just keeping bringing blessings into my life” he kissed the top of your head. “First you and now her. Life just cousins get any better”
“Im Just so happy she’s finally here” you sigh as you snuggle into Dick’s side
Well here you were. Baby girl in your arms with your fiancé at your side. Your fiancé who so happens to be a super hero and the former sidekick of Batman himself. You also so happened to be Batman’s daughter.
Now this didn’t happen in the best way. You were dating for about 3 1/2 years by now. You even shared an apartment together. However the dreaded late period was no where in sight. One positive test and a sobbing Dick was more than enough proof. The problem was telling your father. Hs was very strict on finding the right one, marrying and being stable in every way before being a child I got he world.
Even though this was a two person matter, Dick wanted to tell him and take full responsibility and heat for it. Bruce was in fact not very happy with the circumstances, but Dick Grayson.
His side kick, friend, his son, his family. Someone he knew you could rely on, be safe with, and know that you were in good hands. So the day you both told him he responded with:
“Y/N, this is another life you’re both bringing into this world. You’re both fully aware of your actions and what has to be done now. I won’t force you into keeping it, the choice is yours. However, keeping this life means they are now the center of everything. Are you truly ready for that? The tears, the sick days, school, happy moments, angry moments? All of it?” He asks seriously yet cautiously
“Every moment Bruce. And she won’t be alone. I swear to you I love them both so much, I just want to give them whatever it is to keep them safe and happy” dick said confidently.
With that said Bruce stood up and congratulated you both. He brought you into a tight but gentle hug. Of course he’d also be there every moment, he just couldn’t believe it. About a month or so later dick had asked you to marry him. He would have asked with or without the pregnancy. But he wanted to show you that he was here 100000%.
*knock knock*
Looking up from your arms you see Bruce pop his head in.
“Dad! Come in! You’re just in time she’s awake!” You beam as your father opens to the door to make room for the flower he had brought for you. Behind him were Alfred and Damian. He set the flowers down and kissed your head. He looked down at the baby in your arms
“She beautiful you two. She looks a lot like Dick” he said smiling down at the newborn
“Dad, this is Martha” you say carefully handing the bundle. He cradled her in his arms and thats when he caught on
“Martha? Y/N…you didnt-“
“We did Bruce. You’ve done so much and you know how much you mean to us so we honored her with your mothers name” Dick explains wrapping his arm around your shoulder. Sitting down in a chair and observed the baby. She now carried something on his mother and he couldn’t hold back the tears.
Bruce Wayne was a very tough man. Brought to tears by a baby who was yet to even speak. You knew he’d be an amazing grandfather. After some more chatter Alfred also took a turn to hold Martha.
“She does have something about her that remind me of Martha sir. However, her Beaty seems to come from you Miss Y/N.” He comments. Martha definitely liked Alfred, she looked at him and broke into a big gummy smile.
You had then noticed Damian who was in the far corner looking out of the window
“Damian, do you want to hold her?” Dick asked picking her up from Alfred
“Why would I want to hold something that has your DNA?” He asked crossing his arms
“Because shes also your niece” he answered “and once you hold her, you won’t need anymore answers” he rolled his eyes and opened his arms for the small package
“Support her head” dick reminded him. With a scowl he looked down at his niece and raised a brow. Martha simple yawned and stretched her small limbs out of the blanket. A small tiny sigh leaving her mouth. Damian felt strange….he felt protective ? It was weird. He could feel his face gearing up even in the cool hospital air.
He walks over to you and hands her over. He gave you a quick hug and said
“Shes cute. Congrats” and stuffed his hands into his pockets and made his way outside the door.
“Well, it looks like Martha is winning everyone Hearst today” he said kissing her head. This time you both shared a yawn signaling for Dick to go into dad and husband mode.
“Alright we’ll i think it’s time for both of my girls to get their naps of the day in” he said picking up Martha and placing her in the bassinet “thank you guys again for stopping by”
“Of course, we’ll be in touch. If you need an escort home just let me know” Bruce said saying his goodbyes to you both
“We will dad” you wave with heavy eyelids “and tell Damian he can come by our place later to see her again”
“Will do”
“Alright sexy mama, It’s time for you to get some rest” dick said helping you adjust to the hospital bed for well deserved rest
“Thank you dick, you’re so diligent without me even saying anything” you yawn again as you’re tucked under the blankets
“Well you’re my wife and the mother of my beautiful baby. What kind of husband would I be if I didn’t treat you like a queen?” He asked kissing your head “no more questions. Shut those pretty eyes of yours and get some rest. I’ll watch our little princess”
No more Words were needed as you fell asleep. Dick took his seat near the bassinet and watched as both of your form rose and fell in your peaceful slumber. He just couldn’t stop smiling. The perfect woman and the perfect daughter. He may be a hero, but before that he is Dick Grayson. Husband and father.

battinson! bruce wayne x f! reader
chapter five
Tumblr media
Summary: After the sudden deaths of your mother and grandmother, you’re forced to return home to Gotham…and to the man who broke your heart three years ago. Back in Bruce Wayne’s inescapable orbit, you vow to get to the bottom of your former best friend’s new cold personality. But Bruce’s secrets aren’t what you’re expecting. a
a/n: I won't lie, I love this chapter, especially because it shows one of my favorite things about this reader very clearly--the fact that she only has one braincell. She's been surprisingly fun to write, even with all of the angst!

The doors opened with a noise so loud she winced.
When she looked up, she was face to face with a gun.
Y/n was afraid in a distant sort of way. It was, sadly, not the first time she’d been held at gunpoint pursuing a story. But the first time had been with a wire under her shirt and a whole bunch of cops around the corner.
This time, she was alone.
And the man on the other end of the gun was a cop.
“Shit,” Lieutenant Gordon said and, mercy of all mercies, put away his weapon. “What are you doing here?”
For some reason, the disappearance of the gun kicked the fear up a notch. Her heart suddenly tried to take flight. She took a deep breath, dizzy now, and managed to say, “Got a second for that interview?” Her voice was too high. Probably not the best time to crack a joke, but she obviously wasn’t thinking clearly.
Behind Gordon was a shadow.
No, a man.
The Batman.
His mouth was slightly parted, what she could see of his face…almost shocked.
“You two look awfully surprised to see that someone followed you. The blindingly bright light wasn’t very hard to find.” She should shut up, she thought distantly. She still wasn’t sure if they could be trusted. But the fear was ebbing away, slowly but surely.
Gordon pinched between his eyes, the movement pushing his glasses up to his forehead.
“There’s a locked gate that requires a code. There’s barbed wire.” He sounded like Alfred when she and Bruce had gotten into something they were told not to touch or do as kids. Tired dad voice, they called it, snickering behind his back.
She hooked her thumb in Batman’s direction. He still stood absolutely still, cape blowing in the breeze, his mouth closed now. “Followed this guy in.”
Gordon looked over at the vigilante. “This is the girl you–”
“I remember,” Batman said in that voice of gravel and smoke. It sent a thrill of fear through her. Actually, his voice was kind of sexy, now that she was thinking about it.
She was losing her mind. She had barely slept in a week and she was losing her mind. She was with two men she wasn’t sure if she could trust, on top of an abandoned building where it would be very easy to kill her, and she was thinking of sexy voices. Well, one sexy voice in particular. No offense to Gordon, she thought wryly.
“I’m also, um…a journalist.” This was directed at the vigilante. In her experience, honesty opened up more doors than it shut. She was usually pretty good at figuring out when to lie, particularly about her profession, and when to tell the truth. Or when to split the difference. She trusted her gut more often than not, and right now, she was relatively at ease. “Couldn’t help it, sorry.”
“So you just…” Gordon waved a hand vaguely.
“Followed the light? Yeah. I just hope it doesn’t lead to death like it usually does.” God, she needed to stop cracking jokes. She wasn’t out of the woods yet. “So if you’re going to murder me, can I please at least get a good quote first?”
“This concerns her anyway,” Batman said, shocking her so much that she nearly toppled over the edge of the tower. And–oh shit, the tower was really tall and had absolutely no walls or rails or anything to protect her from the drop. She took a shaky step back towards the elevator, but it had returned down below. Heights had never been her friend. An irony, Bruce liked to point out, because she lived in a tower. Then that would almost always start an argument about what “irony” meant.
“Are you sure?” Gordon said. The wind whistling in her ears made it hard to hear. She hoped the question wasn’t Are you sure we shouldn’t kill her? and was instead simply Are you sure we’re going to trust her?
“We can always throw her over,” he said. There was something almost familiar about his voice, she realized, but then the words caught up to her.
She gulped, dizzy again, but Gordon did a double take. “Did you just make a joke, man?”
The Batman gave no indication that it had been a joke. She gripped the pepper spray tighter. Not that it would help her if she got tossed over the side, but it made her feel a little better.
“He’s kidding, don’t worry. Tell her you’re kidding, she looks ready to puke.” Gordon crossed his arms, clearly not intimidated in the least by the hulking figure of the vigilante.
“I’m kidding,” the Batman said with a cutting glance towards Gordon. “I don’t kill people.”
She squinted at him, unable to clearly see him in the darkness. She really couldn’t tell if he was serious or not. She guessed he had to have at least some sense of humor about all of this. He was dressed as a fucking bat, after all.
She decided to trust them. “Okay, which means I’ll be really upset if you make an exception for me. I’ll haunt your ass. Yours too, Gordon, because supposedly you’re the only cop who isn’t corrupt in this city.” She crossed her arms and shivered. As long as she ignored the sheer drop surrounding her on three sides, she’d be fine. “Though I’m not convinced yet. I’ve been gone from Gotham for too long.”
“The force has changed a lot in a year.” Another look exchanged with the vigilante. “But I understand the sentiment.”
Y/n glanced around, keeping her eyes on the view instead of the drop. “So no one else has ever followed you up here?” she asked curiously. She saw what she was pretty sure was a spotlight on the far side of the platform. “Because seriously, the light is a dead giveaway.”
“His girlfriend did once,” Gordon said, and he smiled. “But no one else.”
“Wasn’t my girlfriend,” the Batman mumbled. Mumbled. He was suddenly less scary when he sounded like any surly man denying any attachment to a woman.
Her ears perked up. “Oh? She got a name?”
They both gave her looks that said they knew exactly what she was up to. She shrugged, the perfect picture of innocence. It was worth a shot.
She changed tactics. “You said this concerns me. What does?”
“The murders you witnessed,” Gordon said. “We found ties to the Gallo family. I was coming to fill him in.”
“The Gallo family,” she repeated. She knew this already, but better to play at ignorance in case they gave her more information. That and it hadn’t been confirmed by someone who was on the investigation team. “The mobsters in New York?”
“The very same.”
“Was the one who got away one of them?” she asked. Because that would be bad. Very bad.
“We didn’t get any information out of the other three. One…committed suicide not too long ago, actually. Part of why I’m here.” Gordon sighed. “Getting rid of Falcone created a vacuum. The Gallos are just the first ones powerful enough to fill the space.”
Falcone. She knew the name. Knew the story. Knew he’d been responsible for the deaths of Bruce’s parents. That was one death she hadn’t begrudged the Riddler–at least Thomas and Martha had gotten justice, in the end.
The Batman turned and looked over the city. His figure cut a dark shadow across the city skyline. “Any ideas where to start looking?”
“So you can bust some heads?” Gordon said. He was smiling. Y/n looked between them. It was fascinating. They were obviously close but this only confirmed it. She itched to take notes but she didn’t want either of them to snatch her phone. Damn, she should have set it to record when she was in the elevator. Gordon continued, “But no. We’re coming up empty so far. None of the typical informants have heard anything about the Gallo family. As far as we know, none of them are actually in the city. If they are, they’re laying low.”
“Could you identify them again?” Batman asked. His eyes glinted in the darkness as he faced her again. She noticed he hadn’t come any closer to her, unlike Gordon who was only a couple of feet away. Instead he was near the edge, about as far away from them as he could get. Was it to make her feel better, safer?
“Maybe, with the help of the video.” She knew eyewitness testimonies were shaky at best. And the more traumatic the event, the more unreliable the testimony could be. But a video helped and would do wonders in court. “What does this mean for me?” she asked. “Am I supposed to stay locked up forever, afraid to go out in case there’s a mob hit on me? Or even just a regular murderer trying to take out a witness? Because both of those are kind of shitty.”
“Yes,” Batman said at the exact same time Gordon said, “Probably.”
Her heart sank.
“We’ve been protecting your identity as best we can,” Gordon said in a sure tone that again made her think of Alfred. She wondered if Gordon had kids. “But we can’t be sure there isn’t a leak in the department. We’re still plugging all the holes left behind from Falcone.”
She winced. “Okay, I’ve done two bad things so far.” The Batman crossed his arms. Gordon motioned for her to continue. “First, I may or may not have been loaned out to the Tribune on special assignment to report on my own case. So the editor definitely knows my identity. And I also may or may not have reached out to a GCPD officer to be a source.”
She heard the Batman sigh even over the noise of the wind. Gordon was pinching the bridge of his nose again. Their response made her feel like a little kid getting in trouble and it made her bristle. She bit her tongue to keep from immediately defending herself.
“Which officer?” Gordon asked and his tone told her all she needed to know. He didn’t trust some of his fellow cops, if any.
“He hasn’t even agreed to be a source yet, and besides I have the right to protect–”
“Which officer?” Batman cut in, the sharp growl of his voice startling her.
The sound of it made her spit it out. “Martinez.”
Both men visibly relaxed. “Martinez is solid. There’s a reason I brought him with me to get your statement,” Gordon said. “We can trust him.”
“Okay, good. That’s good. See? I’m not a total idiot.” She relaxed marginally.
“Maybe you’re just lucky,” Batman said.
She laughed humorlessly. “Lucky? Well, buddy, you know what I was doing the same day I witnessed a fucking mob hit? Burying my mother and grandmother. And don’t even get me started on the rest of my personal life right now.”
“He didn’t mean it,” Gordon said with a sharp look. “His humor takes some getting used to.”
Batman mumbled something under his breath again that sounded a lot like I can talk for myself. But he didn’t actually butt in.
“Okay, whatever. What can I do? I don’t want to be killed, obviously, and I don’t particularly like the idea of being locked in an ivory tower either, nice as it is.” What she didn’t say was that she wasn’t sure she could handle being locked in Wayne Tower with Bruce Wayne. She just couldn’t. She couldn’t be reminded of how close they used to be and the distance between them now. And all of that on top of the immense grief she experienced at unpredictable times. She never knew when she’d be reminded of her grandmother and subsequently that she was gone. Around every corner, through every doorway, was the potential for a punch to the gut when she remembered her grandmother was dead.
“What can you do? Stop sneaking into construction sites at night, for one,” Gordon said with a soft snort. “But any information, anything, you come up with while working on this story, send it to me, too. And we’ll work with you on identifying that fourth suspect.”
“You aren’t going to tell me to stop investigating?”
It was the Batman who answered. “Would you actually stop?” His voice was rough on her skin, giving her goosebumps that had nothing to do with the cold or the fear of heights.
She shrugged. “Probably not. But I don’t want to die, either.”
“I’ll keep an eye out for you,” he said. He took a step forward. She noticed how broad his shoulders were, how sharp his jaw was, how his gloved hands were clenched into fists at his side. She really, really should have found a way to sneakily record everything. She was probably closer to the Batman than most people had ever been.
She swallowed. “Don’t worry, Wayne Tower’s plenty secure.”
“Still. I’ll be around.”
“That sounds a lot like stalking.” She raised an eyebrow.
“I promise I won’t peek in your windows.” A twitch at the corner of his lips.
“That sounded a lot like another bad joke,” she said. But she smiled.
“Let me drive you home,” Gordon interrupted. He was glancing back and forth between them, eyebrows raised. She wanted to protest, but she doubted her luck had held long enough for her to be able to get a taxi back home.
“What, that’s it? Two whole pieces of information and you go home? You guys don’t text or anything?” She crossed her arm. She really hadn’t gotten any more information that she didn’t have–except for the suicide of one of the suspects. If it even was a suicide. “This meeting could have been an email.”
“Never know who’s listening,” Gordon said. He tilted his head towards the vigilante. “Besides, he’s paranoid. Only calls if he needs something. Hates texting.”
She eyed the man in question. If he hated texting, maybe he wasn’t as young as she thought. Then again, Bruce hated texting too, old man at heart that he was. But he was the exception, not the rule.
“I’d really appreciate it if you two kept me in the loop too. Quid pro quo,” she said.
“For your article?” Batman asked. There was a certain edge to his words that made her think he didn’t like reporters. And really, it made sense. If she was trying to keep her identity a secret, she wouldn’t like reporters either. They were a chronically nosy bunch even when they weren’t working on a story.
“For my life. If I survive this, yeah I’m going to write a hell of an article. But I kind of have to be alive to write it, don’t I?” She crossed her arms again and stared him down.
“Quid pro quo,” Gordon said. “As long as you two agree to play nice.” He chuckled, like it was part of a joke.
“Keeping her alive is nice,” Batman said. Another joke? Every interaction between him and Gordon solidified the fact that they got along well and were around each other often. No way Gordon didn’t know the guy’s real identity. But if they were as close as she suspected and if Gordon was as honorable as everyone said…no way was he going to let any hints slip.
Her mind spun as the two men talked quietly about off the clock watches of Wayne Manor. She now had two very reliable sources for her article–if they really did keep her in the loop–and a new certainty that an op-ed for the Batman was in her future. She doubted any reporters in Gotham had spent as much time with the vigilante as she already had. Her veins thrummed with that inner fire.
She might be able to expose a mob conspiracy and the Batman’s identity in one fell swoop.
It was all she could think of as Gordon drove her home.

I just wanted to say, yesterday I sat down and binge-read all your Timkon fics, as well as most of the WIPS, and I BADLY want to write some now. I've never really written Tim, tho, since I'm more used to writing Jason. Do you have any tips, or bits of Tim and Kon characterization you consider especially important? (The WIP I've made on my head, if it helps, is (Daemon AU) comics!Tim ends up on Young Justice!Cartoon universe, and he's very, very weirded out by how different Kon is to Conner, and very pissed off that this Conner gets a Daemon while his Kon doesn't have one.)
tbh it kinda depends on where you're trying to go with the fic idea, I'd say? Also why Conner DOES have a daemon and Kon doesn't, probably. Also-also, does Conner even actually have a daemon or is Tim just confused about Wolf or something.
Generally speaking, though, the thesis of Tim is that he is a ride-or-die guy who really fucking COMMITS when he makes a decision. Sure, he'll stalk Batman. Sure, he'll introduce himself to Nightwing and tell him he knows his secret identity. Sure, he'll put on the suit Jason died in to go save Batman and Nightwing from their own stupid selves. Sure, he'll be Batman's emotional support sidekick and lead Young Justice and the Teen Titans and try to clone his dead best friend and run around the planet solo to save Bruce from the timestream. Why not! SOMEBODY'S gotta do it!!
"Somebody's gotta do it" is a lot of Tim's motivation, from what I can tell, haha. He also comparmentalizes really well, is a very talented and skilled detective as his defining Robin skill, uses a bo staff as his signature weapon after convincing Lady Shiva to train him and was the dude who was smart enough to add pants to the Robin suit, and one of his more iconic lines is I think Cassie going, "you lied to Starfire?" and him answering, "I lie to Batman". Which he does. Frequently. Frequently and a LOT-ly. To be fair, Bruce is also a fucking liar, so he deserves it. Tim, however, actually has friends he will ADMIT are his friends without having to be waterboarded into it during an active apocalypse-level crisis.
The boy has no chill. He DISGUISES his lack of chill, but it is fucking nonexistent and the ONLY reason he looks "reasonable" is because his besties are the teen idol superclone with limited life experience and Stephanie "welp my dad's gone supervillain so I'm gonna go kick him in the dick with my intermediate gymnastics" Brown. And then there's Cassie "I'm just gonna ask Zeus for superpowers, natch" Sandsmark.
Also Bart. Also Bart is a thing. Bart is SO MUCH a thing.
So yeah, Tim is a full-stop no-holds-barred insane person, he's just also a better liar than any of his friends. Like so, so much better. AT LEAST THEY HAVE SUPERPOWERS, TIM. AT LEAST THEY'VE GOT THAT. He figured out Bruce's secret identity at NINE 'cuz he went to the circus as a toddler and Dick Grayson's flips were just that sick, and then just didn't tell anybody for FOUR FUCKING YEARS. Four fucking YEARS!! ACTUAL FUCKING YEARS. He just didn't think it was relevant, I guess?!!? So instead he just stalked them with his camera and took cool pics. So many pics. So, so many pics. And he skateboards.
Also he and Kon fucking could NOT stand each other at first because Kon was used to being a solo act and didn't want to answer to anyone else and Tim lacked the ability to convince him to listen to him and they just had VERY different personalities and priorities, and also for a little while in there Match was fucking shit up by pretending to BE Kon, and frankly it's a fucking miracle Tim and Kon didn't kill each other before they ever got to be Titans together, the way they totally failed to get along for the first YJ run.
Seriously, I think they actually had a literal fucking fistfight on Apokolips once, I think that ACTUALLY happened. In the middle of a literal WAR that happened. Tim. Tim, you KNOW better, buddy.

Okay, so I've been scouring your blog these past few days, and ughh, it feels so good to find someone who actually seems to understand who Dick is! His eldest daughter complex is something I relate to so much, and was the thing that really drew me in. A lot of people look at the mediation and emotional weight lifting, (and those are huge parts of it, don't get me wrong,) but something else I find very eldest child is the way his own relationship with Bruce has continued to take hits all so Bruce can have better relationships with the others. Like when you're the oldest your parents make so many more mistakes with you. I also can't help but feel like it's got to be so hard as Dick to look at the way Bruce is with Tim/Dami/Cass, and wish that he could have that kind of relationship with his Dad. They want to be jealous of the trust, think he's the golden child, and yet at the same time, he's wishing he had something more resembling the true parent/child relationship the others got. (Idk maybe I'm projecting, but oh lord I go absolutely feral for eldest daughter Dick, it just hurts so good)
og post in reference
Yes! I'm so glad you brought that up!!
In terms of parenting, and why I don't really write about Bruce being a parent to Dick, is because Dick is kinda a guinea pig, as my engineering teacher put it once.
He was the Bruce's first for everything. First friend, first partner, first son - he just took responsibility for all roles. It makes things even worse because Bruce at the time he took in Dick, he had only been Batman for three years. Three. And he was literally drowning under the weight of the mask until he found Dick. There's a reason why Dick is Bruce's is right hand man and that's because Dick's been with him through everything. When Bruce was struggling and almost giving into his obsession, Dick was there to pull him out of it.
He quite literally mothered Bruce through his feelings, asking if everything was okay, what's wrong, watching him constantly and guaging his mood. This is exhausting work because Dick's mind was always on Bruce's mental state, much like a mother worried constantly about her teenage daughter or a father about his son.
That adoption scene where Dick asks Bruce, "why didn't you adopt me?" That's the realization of eldest daughter syndrome brought up.
Up until then, Dick was completely fine with being the caretaker for Bruce and lifting him up. He parented Bruce for so long and so smoothly, neither fully realized how much Dick was doing for him until he left. When Bruce adopts Jason, that's when Dick realizes there's something wrong with their dynamic.
I don't know if at that time Dick really wanted to be adopted or if he felt neglected because that he's wasn't while another was. But one thing he feels isn't jealousy, he's very clear on that, but Dick feels hurt.
Was there something he did wrong that caused Bruce to do that? What he do differently? What could he have done better? These types of questions constantly cloud his brain because he's gotten so used to taken care of his guardian for two decades now that he must feel hurt on some level even if he never expresses. He wouldn't begrudge his siblings because he feels happy Bruce isn't making the same mistakes to them that he did with Dick but at the same time, it's just exhausting for him.
Bruce might have improved but he isn't the best, so now he's busy taking care of both his brothers and sisters and his father. He also has to take care of his friends too.
He has the weight of the world on his shoulders but the worst part for him isn't the actual the weight - it's the realization that he's holding the weight. Because before he could live on in ignorance and bliss that Bruce was always going to be this way, and taking care of him would naturally just be Dick's job. He's so used to it, he's been doing it since he was eight.
But now, he knows what he's doing, he knows he's not supposed to, but he must. Because they rely on him, but also because that's what Bruce made him into. And I think that hurts the most for him.
He'll feel conflicted about it because on one hand, he loves Bruce. He loves him so much, he'll do anything for him. But also what about all those missed opportunities? Could he have been something different? Maybe he could've hung out with the Titans more if he didn't have to deal with bruce constantly demanding his presence. Maybe he could've joined a new class he never thought he would try.
Dick doesn't regret what he did and if he could go back in time, he would do it all over again but...he probably feels melancholic again. To love a parent so much you sacrifice your happiness over and over again so they can be happy while you're forced to grow up early. Dick's personality itself just lends itself to helping others but constantly taking care of your parent?
He's happy but he feels helpless and sad so he stays silent about it all.
It's said that Eldest Daughter Syndrome can make women feel overburdened, stressed out, and constantly responsible for others.
More signs include having a strong sense of responsibility (leading the batfam and hero teams), feeling a need for control (him fighting for his independence against Bruce and fighting to take care of his own teams), carrying the heavy weight of parents' expectations (his entire monologue in Nightwing 1996 about his feelings towards Bruce), perfectionism (Roy grouching about Dick's perfectionist tendencies to Kori in Outsiders and Roy yelling at Batman for it in Batman Plus), struggling with same-age relationships (dating older), and feeling resentment towards family (his outsiders era was him just resenting Bruce in the beginning).
He's been parenting Bruce for so long he was forced to grow up prematurely. I mentioned in my compartmentalization post when Dick's parents have literally just died. And he's forcing himself to act happy because he doesn't want Bruce to feel guilty and upset about not catching their murderer yet. That's not a responsibility a child should have - pretending everything is fine so as not to worry their family. That's the role of a parent. He's taking parenting his own parent because his actual one is incapable of doing so.
But Bruce's greatest fear is that by taking in Dick, he deprived Dick of opportunities to shine. To live in the limelight. And Dick knows everything about Bruce, so he knows Bruce's worst fears. And for this reason, out of the love that he has in his heart, Dick will never tell Bruce if he's hurt him because this is directly connected to his worst fear.
And that hurts. Because vocally releasing anger and sorrow is cathartic but to have it build up silently inside and letting it sink beneath the waves each time is painful.

please share your dick and bruce fic recs, both sad and fun stuff
–someone who thinks about them a normal amount
OHHH my friend my dearest friend i will totally share the best most crazy brainworm inducing bruce and dick fics i have ever read. i wish i was exaggerating when i say this dynamic changed me as a person, but it is the truth i fear. THE troubled father and son blueprint.
DICK AND BRUCE FIC RECS ON AO3
a pointless resistance by emavee
It starts with a news report running in the background of a greasy little diner, but it ends with Dick dead. Except, it doesn't stop there. It keeps on ending, over and over. Bruce's son keeps dying, and nothing he does seems to make any sort of difference.
MY NOTES: whenever i stumble upon an emotionally repressed individual i imagine a little cartoon person in my head shouting SEND HIM TO THE TIME LOOP because it truly does fix all problems. wonderful bruce and dick writing and the dialogue was so real to me i have tears in my eyes just thinking about it. it is also set during the robin jason era!
Making Time by CaptainOzone
Bruce does not remember anything leading up to this moment. He does not remember teaming up with Superman recently, nor does he remember being anywhere but Gotham proper. He does remember having Robin at his side. Robin, it turns out, is not there any longer. God does he hate magic.
MY NOTES: you'll notice a common theme with these recs and that is bruce needs to be having a horrible time and then is forced to confront his emotions and express them accordingly to dick. there is something very bittersweet about this yet it was handled so wonderfully. again, tears in my eyes.
Catch and Release by snackbaskets
There's a tradition among the family: when in danger, you grab the smallest Robin and hang on tight. But like all traditions, this one had to start somewhere, right? Alternately: three times Dick bodily attacks his father (with love)
MY NOTES: ohhh i think about the last part of this fic like all the time. something so sweet and precious about it to me. such a fun and comforting read.
Afraid of the Dark by WrongLeverKronk
The wind whispered outside his window and the dim moon failed to provide comfort. He was embarrassed. Richard Grayson sat on his bed, above the covers, with his arms wrapped firmly around his knees that were tucked against his chest. He thought everything would be fine when he parted from his friends for the evening, that his confidence would follow him in solitary. He regretted parting as soon as he turned out the lights in his bedroom and became enclosed by the eerie atmosphere. (Or: the aftermath of the episode in which Robin hallucinates Slade. He calls Batman)
MY NOTES: can u hear the sounds of me screaming crying sobbing. one of my first ever dick and bruce fics. fun fact i have never watched teen titans but watched this episode specifically just for fun and then read this and now it is seared permanently into my mind forever. anyways read this.
in the dark of the night by fanfictiongreenirises
“I already have a dad, y’know? So you don’t have to be my new dad. I don’t really want you to be my dad, anyway. We can be friends. Partners.” Bruce seems to sigh in relief, having stiffened up halfway through Dick’s speech. “Friends and partners, then.” And they were in agreement. Bruce and Dick and a series of steps and leaps and jumps.
MY NOTES: sometimes im okay and then i remember how many times dc COULD have made bruce adopt dick and DIDNT because they SUCK and so this fic is here to warm the hearts of all those who need it. so lovely.
After the Wake by nighhtwing (divineauthor)
Fathers should not bury their children. —•— When Jason dies, Dick comes home, and Bruce muses on being a parent.
MY NOTES: a shorter one, but man does it pack a real punch to the heart. i find bruce and dicks dynamic immediately after jasons death the most fascinating and this was a wonderful spin on it!
You Are My Reflection (As I Am Yours) by Fairy527
A rope snaps. A collective scream echoes in the tent. (A threatening low voice. A sinister metallic click.) The Flying Graysons fall, and Bruce is sent back to that fateful night in Crime Alley
MY NOTES: clutches my heart screaming OHH. OH THE PARALLELS. there is just something so personal about the night the graysons fell and the night the waynes died being referenced with one another AND THIS GOT IT SOOO WELL. tears. tears forever.
i can't promise (it's not written in the stars) by konan_konan
Batman is following him, surely, but he’s smaller and faster and he’s not going to let someone take him and lock him up again. Wayne Manor, he’s learned, is just another kind of prison. It may be big and fancy but it is also empty and cold and he’s not going back. Tony Zucco dies tonight, he tells himself. It is the only thing that matters. or: dick loses two soulmates, and gains three.
MY NOTES: oh this fic. i need a moment. soulmate aus can be a real hit or miss sometimes but the way it was portrayed in this literally surpasses all expectation it was just SO GOOD. the dick introspection is honestly one of my favourites like. ever.
In This or Any Other Universe by wildsofmarch
There was a new vigilante in his city: a man who smiled too much and talked too loud and knew his way around a fight a little too well. Bruce wasn't bothered by his antics. Except the man also seemed to know a little too much about him. Who was this Nightwing, anyway? ------ OR: Dick Grayson (DCU) accidentally lands himself in Battinson’s Gotham.
MY NOTES: here it is. my favourite bruce and dick fic of all time forever and ever. im so serious. the tears are not in my eyes because they are streaming down my face. the idea of battinson with a robin was lovely and now that this gives us battinson with NIGHTWING i am just inconsolable. MUST READ.

"y'know, i think this may actually be the funniest thing that i've ever experienced. either that or the saddest."
bruce, forever resigned to enduring the overdramatic woes of his eldest child, deigned to lift his head from where it had burrowed itself under several oversized pillows and give dick an absolutely scathing glare. dick smiled beatifically back.
bruce groaned and went back to wallowing.
"i mean," dick oh-so-lovingly continued, "this is karma at its finest. i remember when i went through the exact same thing."
"really," bruce said, trying his damndest to put as much incredulity in his voice as he could, given the way his face was mashed into a thousand-count pillowcase. it really was quite soft. for a brief moment, bruce contemplated sinking into the fabric, letting it envelop him and protect him from the cruel clutches of fate, never having to weather the outside world again. he was fairly certain cass was ready to be batman, and if worst came to worst, dick had proven more than capable of leading the justice league for him.
a thump on the bed next to him had him rolling his eyes while trying to stifle a smile. sometimes, bruce is dumbstruck by how much his son has grown, a paper-cut sort of ache. other times, like now, he could close his eyes and almost pretend he was twenty years younger, with an effervescent nine-year-old doing backflips on what dick deemed "the trampoline bed."
"yeah," dick said. "really. very first time i had a date lined up with a guy, i think i was sixteen. i was so nervous, you don't even know." a small quiver in dick's voice hits something very soft and very vulnerable in bruce's chest, and he shifts to look at dick, giving him his attention.
(he does know, is the thing. he remembers dick coming home from that date, eyes a little watery but a smile on his face as he told bruce it went well, then collapsed into the type of hug he hadn't asked for in years, bruce's collar all damp and his heart spilling up, overflowing, bursting.)
"i had my notecards and a speech lined up and everything," dick said, a teasing tone still threaded through his voice, but making himself softer. it was the tone dick took with younger kids he was mentoring, or particularly stubborn friends he was talking reason into. "and in the end, i just ended up word vomiting some version of a coming out speech. it was absolutely awful; i'm surprised you understood a word coming out of my mouth."
"'course i understood," bruce grumbled. "i'm your dad, it was pretty obvious what you'd been building up to for weeks." then, eyes widening—"fuck."
dick grinned down at him, nudging his shoulder in a manner most would deem cheerful and delighted, but what bruce really knows is smug and nefarious and indicative.
"exactly!" dick said, because bruce taught him how to set verbal traps once when he was thirteen and dick had been besting bruce at that particular skill for years.
"i hate you," bruce groans, rolling back over.
"just like you said—alfred knows you. it's pretty obvious to him what you've been building up to, but i know from personal experience that you're gonna want to actually tell him. it's....cathartic. and self-fulfilling."
"i wouldn't care if it was rhapsodic," bruce said. "i never—i never planned for this."
"because you never thought he would ask you? or because you never thought you'd allow yourself to say yes?"
god-fucking-damn dick to the depths of hell for knowing him so well, knowing the turns of his thoughts and the twists of his fears, for pulling his brain inside out and never running away from what he sees.
bruce sighed. "i've never been this lucky, dick. the best things in my life have always been you all, and you know how fraught our relationships are. this, whatever this is, has been going, uh, well? which means it'll go downhill somewhere, and if not with him and me then—"
"bull. shit." dick punched bruce in the arm. lightly, mostly. "this is alfred. he raised us all right alongside you. he's been nothing but supportive of more than half our harebrained ideas for years. hell, he wore a little pride pin on the lapel of his suit when i came out to him."
"yes but," bruce said, haltingly, "i've quite literally known him since birth. if he doesn't take it well..."
"if he doesn't take it well, which he won't, then you'll feel better for both having told him and for facing it yourself."
"it?"
"you're allowed to be happy, bruce, jesus," dick said. "and telling alfred will also, you know, make it a little more real for yourself. i feel like we've had this exact conversation before."
dick is—well, he's right, as he almost always is. and he's employed his particularly famous technique of cutting right to the heart of issues, ripping down the lies bruce told himself, leaving him hyperaware of his own pulse, thrumming in his wrist, and an inescapable flash of clarity.
"i suppose you have a point," bruce said, haltingly and low, and still resolute. with a push, he's sitting on the edge of a bed, feet braced on the plush rug. alfred should be just about starting to get dinner ready, and his—his date is for lunch tomorrow.
bruce, even with his back turned, can almost see the grin stretched across dick's face. "i normally do. now get going, bruce. thirty-something years of repression ain't gonna solve itself."
with a scoff that may have dripped into becoming more of a laugh, bruce ruffled his son's hair, then gave him a quick smile as he left his room, headed towards alfred.

Do you know of any other good cartoons, especially if they don't end on a cliffhanger?
Is it my birthday already?
ReBoot (s1-3)
Tumblr media
You've already all heard my pitch for this, but TLDR it's set inside a computer, the heroes defend the integrity of their home system by battling viruses, playing games and defeating The User, a godlike being outside their comprehension (aka us). Evolves from episodic pop-culture referential humor into an incredibly immersive and fraught character drama unpacking the nature of heroism, family, growing up and losing who you used to be vs growing up and not losing yourself, and what it means to become a monster to defeat a monster. A series technically canceled that ends on the mother of all cliffhangers, but the season that was canceled was the bonus season they weren't expecting to get anyway, and also it sucks. Watch the first three seasons instead, they form a cohesive overarching narrative and end incredibly satisfyingly.
Batman Beyond
Tumblr media
50 years after Batman: The Animated Series, hooligan with a heart of gold Terry McGinnis becomes the new Batman, quippier, capeless and a bit more irresponsible than the old one, guided by an old and reluctantly retired Bruce Wayne. Basically "what if Batman were Spider-Man", but somehow really good. Like most DC cartoons from that era, ends with a loose "and the adventure continues" vibe. Highly episodic, a couple two-parters sprinkled in there for flavor. Also has a few follow-up comic series, some of which are even good! As a corollary, the other DC cartoons in this zone are also good - Justice League, Batman: The Animated Series, etc.
Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes
Tumblr media
The best version of The Avengers. A team of colorful superheroes slowly assemble over the course of the first half of the first season, fighting a very large rogue's gallery and occasionally each other. Contains the best version of Thor ever written and an astoundingly good portrayal of Captain America, but the entire core cast are well-written and have solid interpersonal dynamics - half the fun of each episode is just seeing what unique friendships every random subset of The Avengers have with each other. Having recently rewatched some of it I can say I actually think the first season is the best it gets, and the second season struggles in places - a few episodes become full-on idiot plots to facilitate certain plotlines (Hulk vs Red Hulk being the worst offender) but the second season has a nice conclusive finale and a few bright spots of characterization. Captain America's writing is rock-solid all the way through, which it needs to be to make the Secret Invasion plotline work. The first season is incredibly good.
Transformers: Prime
Tumblr media
Robots in disguise etc etc, a crack team of autobots live in hiding on Earth fighting decepticons and occasionally ferrying their three human friends to school. Good team dynamics, a fantastic portrayal of Optimus Prime as a rock-solid paragon hero, a team dad and a millennia-old warrior of incredible skill who is very, very tired. Great versions of Megatron and Starscream, lots of other fun secondary characters. Three seasons, portrays a very slow war very well - ground is gained and lost from episode to episode, big battles feature every single asset the heroes have managed to scrape together in previous arcs, etc. Also portrays how fucking terrifying it would be to be a squishy human child underfoot during a giant robot fight. Dwayne The Rock Johnson is in the first five minutes of the show until he gets killed for being too expensive. The 3D animation takes a little getting used to, and I say that as someone who genuinely likes how ReBoot looks.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Tumblr media
preaching to the choir with this one here on tumblr.hell, but this show slaps. A reboot of the 80s cartoon, but the kind of reboot that's basically the story someone would make up when playing with the original's officially licensed action figures. Loyal horde soldier Adora learns to her shock that she's actually on the bad guy side (and also can transform into a magical warrior with a fancy sword) and immediately defects to team good guy, which is seen as the ultimate betrayal by her best friend/repressed childhood crush Catra, who doubles down on the bad-guy thing super hard for four seasons. Characters written with a surprising amount of emotional depth who often react to things more realistically than one might expect - frustration, lingering anger, calling people out for mistreating them, etc. Shouldn't be a high bar, and yet so many shows just use characters as emotionless props incapable of advocating for themselves ever.
Castlevania
Tumblr media
Dracula's wife is killed by the church and he sets out to exterminate all of humanity in retribution. He's opposed by three heroes of varying levels of heroism - his half-vampire son Alucard, the speaker magician Sypha, and Trevor Belmont, last son of the family of monster-hunters who dedicated their entire existence to fighting Dracula. Animation is absolutely gorgeous but very not kid-friendly. Ends on a completely satisfying and happy note, which is shocking considering the tone of the show leading up to it.
Hilda
Tumblr media
A very, very cozy and adorable urban fantasy slice-of-life story about Hilda, a little girl from the wilderness who moves to the big city with her mother after their house is accidentally crushed by a giant. Features a lot of scandinavian folklore. Got two seasons and a movie that wraps everything up pretty solidly. Absolutely incredible aesthetic with occasional moments of abject horror, just how I like it.
Dishonorable mentions, aka shows I watched but can't 100% recommend because of Grievances I Will Enumerate:
Centaurworld
Tumblr media
A warhorse from a war-torn world falls through a portal and gets isekai'd into a brightly-colored magical bubblegum dimension where everyone is a boggle-eyed magical centaur. First season has incredible musical numbers, like broadway level stuff, and it's got some appealing nightmare fuel, but the problem I keep running into is the silly elements are so over-the-top that they undercut the serious parts in a big way. Also, the appeal of a cohesive found family narrative is pretty seriously undercut when the entire found family is composed of joke characters that don't experience plausible emotional investment in their circumstances and don't act like people. The thing is, this isn't a mistake, this is very deliberate on the part of the show and it's doing what it's doing incredibly intentionally - I just don't think I like it.
Dota: Dragon's Blood
Tumblr media
A dragon-slaying warrior gets whammied with a dragon curse that sometimes turns him into a monster, and also about a million other things happen. Not finished yet, so I can't guarantee it won't end on a cliffhanger. Based on a game series I'm unfamiliar with, and unfortunately, unlike Arcane (which I would whole-heartedly recommend, it just currently left off on a cliffhanger) it doesn't really seem to know how to stand on its own without the game lore. It jumps around a lot between a huge number of characters, and a lot of the time it's not clear why we're watching what we're watching. I do like the parts of it I've seen! I just haven't been able to stick with it because it feels so scattered.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
Tumblr media
An anime based in the universe of Cyberpunk 2077, which is in turn basically just Shadowrun with none of the interesting fantasy elements. A gritty and unpleasant universe where everyone is a jerk, everyone is very narratively disposable and only bad things happen. Seems to have nothing an audience is supposed to get invested in - it gives us a colorful squad of found-family types but covers the entire friend-making in a dialogue-free montage and then kills all of them in like two episodes, it gives us a romance but undercuts it with a timeskip covering the actual getting-together part, it seems to have a theme about how believing you're special is bad but it also demonstrates at several points that the hero actually is kinda special, it has an extremely solid anticapitalist theme but because it's a cyberpunk dystopia nightmare there's nothing any of the main characters can actually do about any of it, etc. I watched it all in one go and the whole thing slid out of my head right after. Also this is a niche complaint but the use of futuristic cyberpunk slang nonstop in the dialogue might really grate on you. The animation is very nice, though.
Tales of Arcadia (Trollhunters, 3 Below, Wizards)
Tumblr media
Urban fantasy series made in large part by Guillermo Del Toro, featuring a whole bunch of characters doing assorted fun things - some chosen by magical artifacts, some alien royalty on the run from a civil war, one the apparently-immortal apprentice of Merlin, etc. I whole-heartedly recommend all three of these shows! I do not recommend the grand finale movie, which feels like it was written by someone who read the script notes for the previous shows and nothing else. Ends with a timeline reset that completely undoes the entire timeline of the series. Because it ends with a retcon, the movie feels comfortable killing characters pointlessly and letting our heroes act totally out of character whenever convenient. A bafflingly terrible ending for a series I otherwise really, really liked.

My Sweet Boy
Bruce Wayne X Kent! Reader
Batmom! Reader
Warnings:suggestive content, explicit language and angst
Words:1610
Superboy was not Superman's clone nor Lex Luthor's but instead of two who had a deep love for each other. Can this truly unexpected person be what brings them together?
Tumblr media
Bruce's P. O. V
I remember seeing Grayson's tears when his parents died. I knew then I would take care of him but the boy.. It was unexpected.. Greatly. I stood next to Superman as both Superboy and Robin talked. They had infiltrated Cadmus Labs, finding him.
"so he's ah clone of both you and.. My sister" Clark said nervously
"do you have a problem with that?" I asked with a glare
"no!.. I'm just saying this is a lot.. I know this is a big deal but.. Maybe we should wait to tell her?"
"I am fully aware of the fact it is much to comprehend" I declared.
It felt wrong to not say anything to her. She is millions of miles away from earth. He needs a father, and he needs a mother... he's a part of me and a part of one whom I have loved for years. He had my hair, and Y/N's eyes. He had her Kryptonian genes, such as heat vision, super-hearing, agility and strength. He has my detective skills. He has my stubborn nature and has Y/N's kindness. That night we went to the Bat-cave. Alfred of course was in shock. As if he'd seen the boy before.
"I am Alfred Pennyworth trusted butler to Batman.. And you are chap?"
"he's my new brother! His name is Superboy but we're giving him a civilian name soon!" Dick exclaimed, while Superboy had a blank expression.
"I see, care to explain in detail Master Bruce?"
"he's a clone, mixed with H/N's and Batman's DNA" I said
"well welcome to the family young man. I will show you to your room"
".. Thanks" he replied
"first, we need to go over the rules" I demand
"boooooring" Dick exclaimed
I take my cowl off "my real name is Bruce Wayne. Only a few people know my secret.. Keep it that way. You are only allowed to leave the premises with my permission not Grayson's"
"hey! I'm responsible!" Grayson defended
"get some sleep. We will discuss things further in the morning"
"fine" he scoffed
"ah mirror image of you, Master Bruce I might say"
Conner's P. O. V
"you'll love Y/N she's so much fun. She's sweet and she is so cool!" my new brother told me
I still feel worried she won't accept me.. Batman or Bruce or.. Dad.. He's different from what I was expecting. I honestly don't know what I was expecting. I can't imagine what she'll think of me. Her brother seems troubled by my presence. Will she hate me?
Y/N's P. O. V
I couldn't believe what I saw with my own eyes. A screen was of a boy. A 16 year, old boy. He had my eyes and Bruce's hair with his brooding expression. What am I going to do? I look at Bruce's worried expression.
"he as both of our DNA. Lex Luther had yours and Amanda Waller had mine. They were going to turn him into a weapon.. But Robin found him with his new team" Bruce said
"well he needs a father.." I said still in disbelief
"he needs a mother too Y/N. I don't want to ask too much of--" I cut him off
"no! I want to... ok Soo maybe I'll get him for one week and you can the next week? Why does this sound like a discussion between two divorced people?" I chuckled awkwardly
"I'd say it's between two friends who wants what's best for their... son"
I turn to see him. His eyes were wide open and expression worried. I can hear his, heart racing.
"hi.. I'm Y/N"
"hi" he replied shyly. "Superboy"
"I'm very glad to meet you.. I hate to say it but, well if you're going to school then I think you should choose your civilian name. You can take Bruce's last name..." he remained silent "so do you like the name, Conner?"
He looks at Bruce he nodded to his son ".. sure" Conner said.
"well great. If you want to, you can come by place anytime"
"you're not staying?" Conner asked with a half-confused half-disappointed tone.
"no.. I'm.. Conner Bat's and I.. We're not in a relationship" that hurt coming out more than I thought it would.
"ohh" he said looking off to the side.
I couldn't make myself look at, Bruce. Days later Grayson invited me over to swim with him and Conner. I swam with the kids as we, played together. Grayson held onto my neck. I hear, movement recognizing the steps and the Heartbeat. I look seeing Bruce in his suit and tie back from work.
"hey B!" Grayson said
"hey.. B" Conner said. It was still so new for him.
"hi Bruce want to come join us for a nice swim?"
"I don't swim" he replied sternly.
"oh c'mon B!" Dick encouraged
I look at Conner and put my finger to my lips to tell him to be quiet. I super-speeded up to Bruce's collar and pull him into the pool. They boys began to laugh together. Bruce swims up and splashes me. I began to laugh as he glared at, me. He then smiled and then laughed
"you're going to regret that, Kent" he playfully threatened
"try me" I replied playfully.
The longer I stayed the harder it was to think of leaving. Eventually night came. We went on patrol together. Afterwards I bid my goodbyes to the boy's. I awkwardly wave goodbye to Bruce and leave. I went into my house taking a deep breath. I can barely hold my feelings back anymore. Conner reminds me of him each time he comes to see me. I can't get away from him. I rest outside on my roof looking up at, the stars. I faintly hear, my name spoken. Bruce?
"I must sound mad for thinking you'll hear me or let alone listen. You healed my trauma even when I pushed you away... You were there for me throughout my life. You are my best friend and.. I am in love with you Y/N"
I flew to Gotham, straight to Wayne Manor. I flew above Bruce. He takes a deep breath and looks up to me.
"I love you too" I said landing onto the ground by him
Dick's P. O. V
Early in the morning, I open Bruce's bedroom door "hey B--" I then see Y/N's head peep up from the covers "Ahhhhhh!!! My EYES!!"
Conner and Alfred run through the hallway with Y/N's parents.
"good gracious child what ever is the matter" Alfred asked me
"don't go in there!" I exclaim.
They each look into Bruce's room. Y/N's cheeks bright red as Bruce tried to keep himself from panicking.
"what the hell?!" her dad exclaimed. "I'm going to shoot you Bruce!"
"Y/N Martha Kent!" her mom scolded. "what are you doing in bed with a boy?!"
"I'M BLIND!!!" I exclaimed
"Ma.. Pa.. Alfred.. boys lovely to see you all" Y/N awkwardly said.
Uncle Clark laughed for an hour straight when we told him.
Conner's P. O. V
Six months later. Robin and I went on patrol together. I had spent hours training with both of my parents this month. Bruce finally trusted me to go out on my own with Robin. I hear movement from several buildings away. I hear the rifle cock. I grab Robin and pull him away from the line of range. I feel the bullet go through my hip
"AHHHH!!!" I yelled out KRYPTONITE!! He was aiming for me. My eyes became red from the severe pain.
"Superboy!!" he shouted scared.
No! No! I don't want to die. I doubled over in pain. Robin kneeled by me.
"Conner!!" Dick exclaimed he touches his intercom "Robin to 833 we we need medevac stat! You're going to be OK big guy!"
I hear mom screaming in pain from the kryptonite that was inside me "save him! You save my boy!" she shouted to the medics who appeared.
......
Y/N's P. O. V
Bruce stepped out the Med-bay room. He looks at me and kisses my cheek
"the Kryptonite is out of sys--" Bruce stammered as Conner began yelling.
We both run into the room Conner's eyes were bright red. I quickly put my hand over his eyes so that it go into me and not the room or anyone else. I held him as he shakes.
"no! No! No! I don't want to go back in!" he shouted
"shhh it's OK Conner, you're safe" I whispered.
His eyes came back to his normal color but his breathing was anywhere but calmed down. He held onto me tightly. Bruce rubs his head.
"it's alright champ. You're going to be OK. You're safe. Where are you? What do you feel?"
"I'm in the Med-bay.." he takes a deep breath "I am hugging mo--Y/N"
"that's right son" I softly said kissing his face.
I gently lay him back down on his bed "you rest" I lift the thick blanket higher across his shoulders and kiss his head
"thanks Mmm---"
"it's OK" I encourage rubbing his head.
"Mom, Dad"
"my sweet boy" I softly smile rubbing his face.
I hear his breath calm down and hear his heart calming to a softer beat as he fell asleep.
Conner's P. O. V
I hear Mom's heart racing with the same pace as Dad. Her feet floated off of the ground with her, palm on her hand and other holding his own. Dad was, knelt down on one knee, with a ring in his other hand.

omg sorry your batman post got me thinking cos comics used to be a big hyperfixation i had when i was younger but let me just say it would 100% be Cass Cain (Batgirl also called Black Bat) Wednesday and Stephanie Brown (Also takes the mantle of Batgirl but is also called Spoiler) Enid Let me explain if no comics knowledge but like Black Bat -> Daughter of assassins and raised to be the worlds greatest assassin, expert martial artist & reader of body language but extremly limited social skills, has an extreme sense of justice and canonically a better fighter and more skilled than batman She, similarly to Wednesday also has died and come back to life once, and is the apple of her adopted dad's (Bruce Wayne aka Batman) Eye Main costume is a almost entirely black suit baring the signature yellow bat symbol , and a cowl that covers the entire face with a stich pattern on the mouth Very much in contrast to her best friend & Cass's first ever friend ( and sometimes more in certain comics) Spoiler, who's signature outfit is a glaringly colourful bright purple outfit! Has a lot of parental issues with her dad being abusive and a villian, constantly struggling with issues of self worth and wondering if she's good enough while outwardly portraying a very happy go lucky demenor Their inital history started off rocky with Black Bat being stand offish to Spoiler but slowly they become friends and Spoiler gets Black Bat to open up, eventually becoming vigillante partners and working together seamlessly despite the fact that some ppl think they shouldn't "Because we work. We shouldn't, but we do" God you've got this au spinning in my mind now, the Cassandra Cain stitched mouth outfit would be almost perfect for a Wednesday vigilante -🐅
I can't believe my one off mention of a potential batman au bc I played arkham night turned into this
No worries abt the rambling tiger, always appreciate the asks
Ngl, that fits so well. Idk much abt Stephanie and dead ass thought spoiler was barbara from my barely there knowledge. I do know that Cass is a bad ass who barely speak so it definitely fits Wednesday
Idk how I'd even build on this au but you bet Wenclair would cosplay as them one day

I've just been ping-ponging back and forth between Stranger Things and Batfam obsessions so here's a very self indulgent combination.
Au where Steve Harrington is Jack Drake's slightly older first cousin. They were close until Steve's parents disowned him and then reconnected sporadically when Jack was a young adult, but when Steve and Eddie got married, Janet severed ties claiming she thought Steve and his loser rockstar husband would be a bad influence on Tim. Jack reconciles with him when he wakes up from his coma, and asks Steve to take care of Tim if anything happens to him(Jack). When Jack is killed Steve and Eddie become Tim's guardians.
Rough Timeline.
1966 - Eddie is born
1967- Steve Harrington is born
1974- Jack Drake is born
1980- Bruce Wayne is born
1982- Clark Kent is adopted by the Kents
1983-6 -ST seasons 1-4
1987 - Upsidedown Closes for the last time + the Wayne's are killed in front of their son.
1990- Dick Grayson is Born
1995- Jason is born
1996- Cass is born
1999 - Tim is born/the Batman starts his stuff
2001 - Flying Graysons/first Superman sightings
2004 - the Justice League is formed, Boston legalizes gay marriage.
2005 - steddie marriage. Janet Drake throws a hissy fit and Jack and Steve stop speaking.
2007- Dick Quits Robin, Damian is born, andJason becomes Robin
2010- Jason Dies
2011- Tim becomes Robin
2013- Janet dies, Jack is in a coma
2014 - Jack wakes up. Wants to reconnect with his family (including Steve and Eddie), titans tower ™️
2015 - Damian arrives, Jack finds out. Steph is Robin and "dies"
2016 - Jack dies and Steve and Eddie get custody of Tim. Kon and Bart die temporarily.
Tim is going thru it and also suddenly has two VERY attentive guardians who have been dealing with weird bullshit longer than even Batman. They find out about Robin and lecture Batman and insist that if Tim's gonna pull a Dustin then Steve gets to babysit (be on comms).
Steve insists he's too old to be a vigilante but he is on comms all the time and on more than one occasion busts into a scene hitting goons with the batmobile and rescuing Bruce and Tim. He also basically forcefully adopts Jason after he finds out about titans tower. Eddie just laughs, but Jason used to be a big fan of Eddie's band so he is automatically the cool dad.
Somewhere in here Steve and Eddie kind of adopt Dick, Damian, Cass and Steph
Barbara and Max meet and it's Chaos.
Bruce tries to complain that Steve and Eddie are stealing his kids and Eddie's like. Alfred do you want some coparents? We'll adopt a full grown man. We've got kids older than Bruce that we consider to be ours. And Alfred is like. I'd love the help. He's a handful.
Anyway when Bruce "dies" and Tim's like. He's not dead! Steve is like. Yeah. I've seen weirder. Let me call supergirl- not Kara. My supergirl. Eleven. Yeah. You remember her right? She might be able to find him with her mind powers. No she's not a meta. She's had powers since before metas were a thing.
And El finds him and with her help the Justice League can get Bruce back pretty quickly. They offer her a position and she's like. I'm retired. But I'll always help a friend in need, so keep my number.
Anyways the ST crew are all adults and Tired because they thought when the justice league came around they'd be done. But Steve just keeps acquiring children who insist on getting themselves in trouble so even though he is fifty and Tired with chronic migraines and tinnitus he is still going to be the Best Damn Babysitter there is, and none of his friends/kids will let him do it alone.
Steve managed to keep it all from them before he needed to ask El for help but once the dam breaks they're all in and out of Gotham and meeting the Justice League and causing trouble left and right.
Lucas and Will both try to keep out of it and maintain their quiet lives but end up becoming emotional support/therapists/mentors to young heroes.
Dustin somehow gets to do some work on the Watchtower.
Erica, despite being in her early 40s, is trying to get the Teen Titans to unionize.
Nancy has access to guns she really really shouldn't.
Jonathan and Clark get along really well. Argyle can somehow understand the Flashes when they're talking at almost full speed.
And when Robin (Buckley not Batman-and-) meets Wonder Woman she cries.

Just discovered your batfam posts and I got to say it feels great to find someone else with similar ideas. My biggest fandom peeve is that Dick is Damian's rather figure, when canon has made it clear that Alfred had this role for him. I'm curious what you make of Dick and Bruce's relationship? I'm many ways I draw parallels between Bruce&Dick as well as Dick&Damian: both Bruce and Dick were ill-prepared to take care of a child but did their best. Dick and Damian had strong parental figures they weren't trying to replace, and we're close enough in age to Bruce and Dick that they ended up with a more egalitarian relationship although it had mentorship/guardianship/parental elements. Now that headcanon falls apart with Bruce formally adopting Bruce as an adult, but for some reason I can't quite see Bruce and Dick as true father/sons, given their history.
Sorry for the ramble, just wanted to get your thoughts! Also, do you have any Batman fanfics that you feel are pretty well done, that you wouldn't mind reccing?
Hey there! Thank you for the ask.
Well, for one I think that Bruce and Dick's relationship wasn't always like father-son. His parents literally died in front of his eyes and just a few days later, a man he never met in his entire life takes him in as a ward.
Obviously, he was angry and bitter. He wanted revenge. In fact, I don't really think that he interacted with Bruce that much. The only thing in his mind was revenge.
Things happened, and he became Robin. He found a purpose in his life, something he craved to do. And Bruce enabled him to do so. But Bruce was also very different than his current self. He was less controlling, less possessive. He was also new to this. And having Dick around really made things easier for him.
And just as I've mentioned, Bruce was very young when he adopted Dick. He did not have a plan or any experience on parenting. So it was up to Alfred to take care of them.
I don't think that Bruce saw Dick as his son early on. This goes for Dick too. But their bond grew and formed into what we can call familial.
So for the first few years, Dick saw Bruce as; a brother, a mentor, a guardian, his own hero. The thought of Bruce being a dad to him came way later.
And for Bruce, Dick was; a sidekick, a little brother, his partner in crime (and justice), his trustworthy friend. And as time passed, he started to see him as his own son.
If I were to compare the relationship between Bruce&Dick with Dick&Damian, the most noticable difference would be that Dick chose Damian.
What do I mean by that? Didn't Bruce chose Dick, when he made the decision to take him in?
Well, Bruce couldn't save the Graysons. And seeing Dick, crying and begging for his parents to wake up, brought back his own trauma. Just like that, he was back at that alley. It was an impulsive decision, he didn't wanted Dick to feel as he did. So he took him in.
With Damian, it was a bit different. Dick already knew about Damian before he took custody of him. He had heard things about him, which were mostly bad. Yet, when Bruce died he didn't send Damian back to his mother. Because he knew that Damian had chosen them.
You may think 'Of course he wouldn't send Damian back, who in their right mind would send a child back to a place which turned them into a weapon, a killer? No normal person would allow that, let alone a hero!'
After a few days of meeting him, Bruce sent Damian back to the League.
Now this isn't very known through out the fanon, but Bruce really got to a point that he couldn't take it anymore. And this wasn't the first time either. During the Batman Inc, The LoA attacked Gotham and really damaged it because Talia put a bounty on Damian's head. Bruce, appearently, couldn't deal with that so he told Damian to go back to his mother. Damian refused, of course. But that didn't matter, as he was murdered short after that.
Dick chose and put up with Damian for almost a year. He did not took Robin away from him whenever he did something dangerous. Bruce, on the other hand, sent him back just after a few days of meeting him.
Yes, Damian can be insufferable at times but he is a child. And Bruce could not see that.
That's the difference in their dynamics.
And for the fic recs:
1) The Anomaly of Jonathan Kent
By: Drabbles_ Of_Writing
This fic focuses on a relationship between Jon and Damian. It only has one chapter yet, but it's incredibly written. It also feels very realistic and refreshing to read.
2) dawn patrol
By: asheince
This fic is about Tim taking Kon to train surfing with Dick and Duke. It's very funny and fluffy.
3) The Clone and the Bird out of time
By: Trunksie
It's about Tim, travelling to the YJ cartoon universe. It's written with detail and precision. It's an incredible read. It also has long chapters. It also does not woobify Tim and actually makes him feel like his canon self.
4) I've Got to Learn
By: BrickSheep
It's about Damian (that is from a world where he was the Demon's Head) waking up in another world as a two year old. It's a world where his father is the one that raises him, and is actually a good parent. It's fluffy and angsty, so I totally reccomend it.
5) who tells a tale of unspeaking death? who will brave this bitter grief?
By: onlythecatknows
This fic is a part of a series, where in Son of Batman, Damian does not come back from the dead. It's extremely angsty that will make you cry. I suggest you read all the parts of this series.
6) A Time To Reflect
By: Experimental_Muse
Bruce gets stuck in the past, which he does not have any of his kids yet. He tries to cope with his grief of not having them around, while trying not to let young Bruce and Alfred know that he adopted kids. Since it could disrupt the timeline. It's an amazing read, I suggest it.
7) You, Me, and the Humanity in Between
By: JUBE514
In this fic, Bruce adopts the kids but as he slowly gets to know them better he realizes something. His kids aren't exactly human. I'm not gonna say anything more, but this fic is a freaking masterpiece. It's about 60.000 words and has elements of gothic horror and found family with fluff and a bit of angst.
8) Saving the universe, gay panicking and meeting God - a playlist
By: The_Demon_Brat
Damian, sick of his current life, seeks out a meaning for himself. He finds it in light years away in a space ship full of people from different earths and with himself possesed by two demons. It also focuses on the rest of the family, dealing with the grief of Damian's sudden disappearence. It's a mix of fluff, angst, found family. It's absoultely amazing!
9) Robins and Other Flightless Birds
By: Ionaperidot
Bruce (who in this earth never adopted children) gets a visit from another Bruce (which did adopt children) and decides to basically build himself a family from different versions of his kids. But he later decides to take in the ones that are in bad conditions and the ones that need his help. I read this fic like every month. It's so amazing and angsty and fluffly. This one, you should definitely read!!
Anyways, that's it for now. Thank you for the ask!

Michael Mitch is a bat family oc (find some stuff if you want to know on @erroritserror )
Rover is @ezzyraccoon 's. Idk why I made this-
Rover: "so how many bat-family is there?"
Micheal: "a lot. But I can name everyone for you"
Rover: "....ok..."
Micheal: "there is Alfred. He is the butler, the first to know who batman was and is the best cook you will ever meet."
Rover: "Terrance would be friends with him..."
Michael: "then there is Bruce Wayne. He is a rich billionaire that adopted me and my siblings. He is in public a rich play boy but at night he is a crime fighting vigilante. He didn't plan to have any kids but here we are. Anyways Bruce is a good guy....most of the time-"
Rover: "what do you me-"
Micheal: "THEN there is Dick Grayson! Raised in a circus, first robin, saw his parents die infront of him. Sad stuff. But kind and funny goof, probably the most traumatizing past not including me! He is now Nightwing and a big loving older brother!"
Rover "...well damn-..."
Micheal: "first batgirl aka Barbara Gordon was the daughter of a cop and she is in a wheelchair because joker broke into her house and shot her. So yeah- acts like a big sister to us. Bruce basically adopted her."
Micheal: "then Jason Todd. 2nd robin now a anti hero that is a huge foodie, me and tim are cool with him. His mom was a doctor that sold drugs and his dad was a small criminal that left to get the milk. Jason was also beaten by a crowbar to death by joker"
Rover: "do you all have trauma from clowns and circuses?"
Micheal: "yeah pretty much-"
Micheal: "Tim Drake was the 3nd robin, now red Robin...Yumm, he is smartest of us, lived a good ish childhood, his parents died- he is also is coffee addict and very sleep deprived. Don't ask the last time he slept!"
Rover: "should Bruce be-"
Micheal: "we all are sleep deprived Rov. Anyways there is Steph brown. Tim's ex, was the first female robin. Was second batgirl, smart gal, her dad tried to kill her many many many times, faked her death before, all that."
Rover: "im- do all of yo not have parents or have crappy parents?"
Micheal: "yep!"
Michael: "Cassandra Cain, 3nd batgirl, now is orphan (I think-) was trained without language so she doesn't talk much, she can read movements to tell what you are gonna do next. Doesnt understand everything but is badass!
Rover: "...wow-...im kind- wait is that all of the family?"
Micheal: "not even close. Anyway now their is Damian Wayne. The 4th robin, obsessed with animals, the only vegan, filled with rage pretty much, trained by the league of assassins. Mother is one of the leaders, Bruce's only biological child. And kinda a snappy kid but fun to hang with at times"
Rover: "sounds like tea and Elizabeth"
Micheal: "im not gonna ask who they are! Anyways Duke! Called The Signal, the first mutant in the family I think, the only bat person that has a good sleep schedule mostly because he works on the day. But very sweet and cheerful dude, also his mom is insane because of joker and he is trying to get her to at least remember who he is"
Rover: "their goes the joker trauma-... Holy shit your family is hu- wait what about bat woman?"
Micheal: "oh yeah she isn't important-"
Rover: "batwing?"
Micheal: "oh! He is another batman. Alfrican soldier that is another version of batman but he has a different kids suit, he is retired now but he i think had the most teched used suit then all of us"
Rover: "your family is huge, is there more?"
Micheal "yeah. Oh there is a lot!"
Rover: "cute..."
Correct me on any mistakes I made. I want to make sure I did all that right
Also the reason why I didn't do batwoman is because I dont know much about her-
This took me so fucking long-

Thoughts on an old love:
Vertigo Comics
Tumblr media
With the release of the recent Sandman show (highly recommend!!! Mr. Gaiman is, as always, a brilliant storyteller), I thought it might be time to have a look back on my favorite publisher back in the day. I know a few people (especially towards its final days) didn't really distinguish Vertigo Comics from DC comics, but when I tell you that there was a difference, I mean it was just something that can't be replicated.
I don't exactly remember which Vertigo comic I read first. It could've been The House of Mystery or Hellblazer but I'm pretty sure it was Fables. And that's the thing, they were all so special.
I grew up reading comics because my older brother and my Dad before him had grown up reading them. Shazam and superman were Dad's favorites, Batman, JLA, and Green Lantern (Kyle Rainer) were my brother's. But I had grown up watching the Batman Animated Series, where Bruce Wayne was kind, and Batman wasn't jaded, but hopeful, and the comics started pulling away from that.
That's when it happened, I noticed that the characters kept changing, kept evolving from writer to writer, moving further and further from the ones that I knew. Superheroes had been around a long time and couldn't stay the same. Writers had new ideas, new ways to represent the old. Batman was mean, condescending, and sometimes cruel. If they couldn't be updated, they were killed off. Superman lost his love of Lois. Spiderman killed someone. The characters I thought I knew, no longer looked like the ones I loved. So in 2008 I stopped reading them.
But I missed comics. Later, a friend of mine gave me some digital comics, probably illegally now that I'm old enough to know better, but one of them was Fables. I read over 30 comics in one day. I ate them up. And whichever one I read next, Hellblazer or House of Mystery, I read those too. And then, because of course, I read Sandman which opened me up to a world I was already falling in love with. And V for Vendetta, and the Watchmen, Preacher, American Vampire, Y:The Last Man, and The Books of Magic. These were stories that spoke to my very being.
Anything with a Vertigo Logo was gold. The stories beautiful, compelling, and mindbending. The characters were diverse, intriguing, and mysterious. It was like finding a pillar of magic in a sea of ever evolving stories that could never decide on a true identity for itself, Vertigo knew what it wanted to be. The stories haunted me.
SPOILERS:
From Dream besting Lucifer in the oldest game, to Constantine fighting his demon twin, to Bigby Wolf FINALLY marrying Snow White (And Prince Charming's grand return), to finding out who the REAL adversary was in motherlands, these stories never deviated or changed on whims, they always felt honest, sincere, and true to themselves.
:END OF SPOILERS~
There are many other non-DC/Marvel publishers that I love, from Dark Horse (Conan series and Hellboy), to Image (SAGA, Magdelena, and WANTED), to even smaller publishers like ASPEN and Zenescope. Yet, none of these, nor DC or Marvel will ever feel the same as as Vertigo in its heyday.
DC may have made Constantine a superhero, the Watchmen a series, and added all of the best magical parts of Vertigo into its official brand, but the things that made those stories special have stayed with those original books. Nothing against the writers at DC, they work hard and I have no doubt try to remain faithful to the originals... but contrary to what DC wants you to think with their magical league of superheroes, you can't capture magic in a bottle.
And VERTIGO had magic, in spades.
