Re listening to the Silt Verses and just heard the OG promised bride story, which comes right after the episode where Hayward talks about his fake wife (being a cop) that he hates being married to, which comes right after the Carpenter Aromantic episode. Honestly in addition to being a podcast that speaks directly to my soul in terms of religion, politics, and the maddening complexity of building a better world with other people ...the aromantic angle and the deconstructions of romantic love deeply appeal to me. Like I am deeply alloromantic, sure, but there's overlap in my personal problems with the dominant hetero/allo/monoromantic narratives -- specifically in the monoromantic aspect. When I hear Carpenter's story, the promised bride story -- I know that this is a story that's mainly falling along the aromantic lines. But I still appreciate the careful way it outlines the way that conventional romance narratives can feel like a cage that traps you. I felt the same way for a long time about them before I really understood that it was the monoromantic aspect that was really getting to me.
