I know we talk a lot about the parallels between Touya and Shouto, or the ones between Deku and Tomura, but...

What about Dabi and Deku both being willing to destroy their bodies if that meant they could be heroes? What about them representing both sides of a fucked up heroic idea of sacrificing yourself like a martyr, either if there are other ways?

What about Shouto and Tomura both having a big trauma with their quirks thanks to the extensive abuse their dads put them through? What about the way people look at them like they are "special" and they don't know how to "socialize correctly", when in fact they are both really good at interacting and are very conscious about others needs and feelings?

Touya and Deku are parallels too, the same way Tomura and Shouto are. I don't see much people actually writing about this...

When Katsuki Bakugo needed saving, Izuku came up with a plan where Todoroki, Iida, and Kirishima went rocketing across the sky to reach him.

When Izuku Midoriya needed saving, it was Katsuki, Todoroki, and Iida who went rocketing across the sky to reach him.

Both times, our Twin Stars decided to set their own needs aside and allow the other’s trusted friend to take the lead in bringing them home. Izuku knew Kirishima was the right choice to get Katsuki away from the league quickly and safely, and Katsuki knew Iida was the better man for the job of catching up to Izuku and bringing him back.

Can we please just take a moment to appreciate the parallels. Please.

bakugou, ch. 362 // miyazawa kenji, ame ni mo makezu “be not defeated by the rain”

if anyone is unfamiliar, miyazawa’s poem ame ni mo makezu is where horikoshi got the inspiration for deku’s name. the poem speaks of a man who is humble and happy to help others without any expectations of accolades. deku once told kacchan that he channels his confidence and ferocity in battle, and now we see that bakugou has started to channel izuku as well - the muttering, the strategizing, and ultimately, the self sacrificing.

Tomura’s Love

Autistic!Tomura, GN!Reader, QPR

Tomura thinks that the idea of love languages and classifying people based on them is weird. It’s much easier for him to work with if you don’t use a bunch of labels and instead explain things in clear language for him.

He doesn’t pick up on subtle hints at wanting affection. The whole idea of intimacy is very scary for him but he not only trusts you, but also that you will say when you need something.

Keeping things at a pace and level of intensity that he likes takes a bit of accommodating, but you’re more than willing to give him time and space when he needs it.

He loves listening to you talk. He also asks you questions about the things you’ve been reading because he knows how good it feels when someone pays attention to something you care a lot about.

Tomura will sometimes bring you things and ask you to read them to him because he’s very soothed by the sound of your voice. It’s something he learned he liked while checking out guided meditation type things. His favorite thing to have you read is fanfiction based off of his favorite video games.

He also loves info-dumping. He’s learned to ask before he starts doing it most of the time, but you’ll listen either way. He’s always going down YouTube rabbit holes and he wants to tell you about the things that he’s learned.

His special interest range wildly, from PC building to cryptozoology, horror literature and photography, but video game lore has always and will always be a mainstay. He loves going through interwoven timelines with you. It’s a lot to keep straight, but if you don’t get it all the first time, he’s happy to go through it again.

He’ll give you the floor to talk about the things that really interest you. It’s really nice just to talk and Tomura sits at attention, really listening to what you say.

Tomura’s favorite way to spend time with you is the two of you sitting together but doing your own things. He likes to be around you while you watch TV or YouTube because he can wear his headphones and play on one of his many handheld gaming consoles. Sometimes when he’s reading, he’ll laugh and get your attention to have you read a snippet of fanfiction he finds interesting or funny.

He struggles with big transitions and coming out of his head when he’s been focused for a long time, but you learn to give him a bit of time to adjust between activities.

He really isn’t a fan of being touched, but very occasionally, he’ll ask to hug you to help ground him. This picks up in frequency if he’s having bad days or a lot of stuff is going on at once.

He’ll also ask if you need a hug when you seem stressed out. It was a lot for him to ask that in the beginning, but it’s getting easier and easier for him to do.

He loves to send you things that made him think of you. Text chains between the two of you are sprinkled with pictures and links to things he thought you’d like. It’s fan art of your favorite media, songs he’d thought you’d like, or little things that reference the inside jokes you have together.

Toga’s Love/Quirk Theory;

‘I love Tomura-kun and Touya-kun too, but their quirks won’t come out like Jin-kun’s or Ochako-chan’s. I also tried it before this battle...and they wouldn’t come out! Even though I love him... Even though I can become someone I ‘love’... Even though Jin-kun could make them come out... ‘

Recently in chapter 382, we see Toga’s unable to become people she loves (Tomura and Dabi), despite the fact that she became Ochaco and Jin and used their quirks and i would argue that problem is not that she didnt love them enough. (This scene also remind me of the time La Brava gets depressed when her love quirk isnt powerfull enough and she questions her love, kinda parallels.)

But i dont think thats the case. Not after Shigaraki became the first person who believed in her, gave a place she belong to her and everything he did for her and not after Dabi and Toga recently connected through Jin’s death and we even get a official art of him imitating Dabi, more details in here.

I believe in you, Toga, that your love for them is geniue too.

So what’s the problem?

I think its no coincidence that the people whom she couldnt use their quirks happenned to be Shigaraki and Dabi. Suicidal brats who is full of hatred and have personal agenda in league the most, unlike Toga who wants to live, even if its her own way and she is living for love.

Toga cant fully become them because she cant understand them. She doesnt understand whats going on their head. She cant relate to their hatred and she doesnt understand their thoughts.

Compared to this;

Uraraka is Toga’s foil. She is someone who is just like Toga. This is exactly why Toga ran away to talk with her. Because they are similar. Their feelings, the way they tried to shut their feelings down because Toga did the same in the past, the good girls who repress their needs and they both want to become their crushes. This is why Toga thought if its Ochaco, then she can understand her and they could talk about love.

In Jin’s case, he is Toga’s bestie and someone she cares as big brother. They have many similarities, they both live for the connections. They both felt lonely. They both were abandonded by society and they wanted to live easier life. They saw league as home and they wanted to do their best to help people they care about.

Basically, Toga can understand their inner thoughts and relate to their inner feelings. I dont blame Toga for this really. Shigaraki and Dabi are too complicated to understand, especially if you dont know their story and inner thoughts. And they dont even talk about their past to connect with league so it makes sense why Toga cant use their quirks.

Well, you could say Toga cant become them because she doesnt want to become them? But i kinda disagree with that. There is a theory made in here by me and several people already mentioned that Toga is imitating Shigaraki and she seems to wanting to be more like him. I would even argue that when she says ‘Even though I love him... Even though I can become someone I ‘love’’, she is talking about Shigaraki.

‘I loved people’s happy faces. That’s why, for that girl, I won’t turn a blind eye to her tears.‘

Toga is a character who geniuely want to connect with people she care about but key point of love is understanding the person you love. I guess it happens to be good time to talk about love. And last panel with Uraraka and Toga is parallel with Deku’s last panel with Shigaraki, that they wont turn a blind eye to crying face, even though they are villains, they want to save them. So good luck, Toga and Ochaco.

people always talk about parallels between Touya and other characters but I noticed Shouto has parallels with Hawks and Shigaraki.

I'd love to read the parallels you've found!

One of my favorite have to be how the three of them used their quirks as a barrier to protect them from the outside world. We can argue that it was equal parts their biggest curse and a total blessing, because their quirks were the reason why they became soldiers at such a young age.

The use of red as a coloe on their character designs is also a cool parallel. Shouto red hair connects him to Enji, Tomura red eyes connect him to Kotaro and Hawks red wings connect him to his family too. The funny thing is how these characters have struggle with the existence of such red elements. Hawks losing his wings (as a revelation of how vulnerable he truly was), Tomura getting his eyes messed up by AFO possession (going from red to white and fractured) and then Shouto who has half of hair white, as a way to balance the burden.

There are more, for sure. Maybe one day I'll make a big post about the parallels between the three of them. You can let me know if you'd be interested in reading it.
