"y/n, y/n!"
Wanda's voice and her brisking past you to switch off the coffee machine brought you off the hole you were glaring into the wall with your stare.
Your feet walked on your own as you picked up the cup and walked towards the elderly woman, handing over the cup, a smile plastered on your face.
"Are you okay, dear?" The elderly woman, Mrs. Hudson, asked in a gentle voice.
You nodded your head and with a more convincing smile at her concern, replied, "Yeah, yeah, I am totally fine, Mrs Hudson. Just a lot on my mind right now."
"You have to take care of yourself, child. How else will I get the best coffee in the world?"
You chuckled before replying, "Don't worry, Mrs Hudson. You and this town aren't going to get rid of me this easily."
She gives you a wider smile and with small steps, carries her cup and box outside. You wanted to help her and make sure she reached home safely, but after all these months, you just know how stubborn she can be.
"Y/n, you seriously need to take care of yourself. You look tired."
You dismiss Wanda with a shake of your hand, you knew you were tired. You felt tired. But it had nothing to do with the bakery or your chores, you knew it and if nothing else, they were a pretty good distraction from what had been plaguing your mind for what felt like forever now. "I am fine, Wan. Don't you worry about me? You have got enough on your plate." And you meant it. Ever since Wanda gave birth to the twin boys, she had been super busy and the both of you hardly got any time to hang out together, but you understood. She was a mom now. She would eventually take out some time for the both of you, and she did. If the shopping bags and the skip in both of your steps were any indications, she came back for a wonderful girls' day out after all.
"I am never going to stop worrying about you, y/n. It's kind of my birthright." She noted before picking up a cupcake from the shelf.
After a moment of comfortable silence and a couple of customers, when you found yourself lost in your thoughts once again, Wanda spoke up. "Come on, y/n. I know it's been a month and that's a pretty long time, but you need to stop thinking about the worst-case scenarios. Maybe he is safe and sound, and you are just worrying yourself over nothing."
You sighed. You knew she was right but there was absolutely nothing that could calm down your nerves. "I - I don't know, Wan. That day, Steve said it was an emergency. They sounded so worried. And I have got no damn idea about what it even was about."
"What emergencies would mechanics have that could take a month?" Wanda asks with a furrow. The first time she had met James, flashed back into her eyes. She knew something had not been right about him. She just couldn't pin out what. She didn't want to tell you and worry you about it if it was nothing.
"I - I think something is not right, Wan. I think there is something huge he isn't telling me." Your throat contracted as the words left your mind. You had been thinking that for quite some time now. But giving voice to your suspicions and putting them out there, was a different deal altogether. It wasn't just a thought running into your mind anymore.
"You think he has been lying to you?" Wanda whispers, her heart sinking in her chest at your dejected expression. You didn't deserve this. You didn't deserve lies or even half-baked truths and it hurt her so much that she could do nothing about this.
"I don't know. I mean, he could lie to me, right? It's not like he owes me anything. He could straight up one day decide to never show up at the bakery again and there is absolutely nothing I could do about it."
"But he wouldn't do that. You know it." She puts her hand ahead to try to comfort you.
"Then where is he, Wan? Where has he gone for one month without a single word? And hell, I can't even ask around if someone has seen him, because guess what, he is supposed to be nothing to me." You half screamed with exasperation. You wished it wasn't this way. You wished that he hadn't just gone without any contact for a month and you wished that it didn't hurt this much. You wish you could just care less.
"But is he? Is he nothing to you, y/n?" She asks, knowing the answer all too well, but she needs to hear it from you. But your silence and the slight tears brimming in the corner of your eyes are an answer enough for her.
She puts her hand around you to comfort you before stating what has been obvious to her for a long time now. " You're in love with him. "
You suddenly take a step back, running your palm on your face, before replying, "What? No, no, no. That's not true."
There is a pang in your chest that tells you otherwise. The way the bakery hasn't just been the same since he left tells you otherwise. The way your smiles haven't truly reached your eyes for the past week says otherwise. The way your eyes always instantly look at the door at the voice of the bell, hoping with everything you have that it's him, tells you otherwise.
But you wish to stay in denial for a little longer. You wish to ignore all the feelings James Barnes has ignited inside you locked up a little longer. Because for some reason, you knew that it could only lead to inevitable hurt, and you wish you could live in this blissful ignorance a little longer.
Wanda just puts her arms around you and engulfs you in a hug, muttering comforting words into your hair.

It was a dead silent night.
The only thing illuminating his path were the few streetlights and lights of the shop that were still open.
Bucky flinches slightly as the wound on his face makes its presence known.
He knows he shouldn't be here. Maybe at work, informing everybody of the long mission, celebrating the fact that one of his biggest enemies is gone for good now, or maybe getting some medical care, but definitely not here.
But it has been too long, and if he doesn't see you right now, make sure that you're okay, even though he's the one who has been in near-death situations more times than he can count, he is not sure he will be able to breathe.
Maybe he should have stopped for a moment and thought about what he would tell you about the scars and the wounds, but right now, he was a desperate man.
As the bakery comes into view, he lets out a sigh of relief when he notices that the light is on.
You would be cleaning up after the day right now. Maybe, if he was lucky, you would let him just sit there for some time and not send him away from the door. After the radio silence he has given you for more than a month, he will deserve that, but he is not sure if he will be able to live with it.
When he reaches the bakery, he stops for a moment and looks inside.
There, you are. In all your glory, wiping the counter with a determined look on your face.
Bucky is stopped in his tracks. Just like the first night he had met you, he needs a moment to catch his breath, to look at you for a moment longer to convince himself that this is real. You are real.
To him, you get even more beautiful every time he looks at you.
As if on instinct, you look up from the counter towards the door, and your movements halt when your eyes meet the blue ones you had missed more than anything.
You stand there, staring at him for a minute, to make sure that this is actually true, that he was here and it was not just your mind playing games.
When you are finally able to get your feet to move, you walk towards the door to the bakery and pull the door open.
Bucky looks at you with a small smile on his face. Even after he had fought through literal hell the past month, the mere sight of you made it all better. It was like he had been lost into the sea for far too long and you were the first sight of civilization, of peace, of life.
But there is a slight fear in his eyes. He knows you had all the right in the world to just ask him to get lost, that after the radio silence he had put you through, he would deserve everything you had to say to him.
But he couldn't have expected what you did next.
You took hurried steps toward him and before he knew it, you brought your hands around his neck, engulfing him into a tight hug.
"James" You breathed his name as you held onto him tighter. You wanted to be angry with him, to let him know just how much he had worried you, to give him a chance to silence all your worries, but the second you saw him, all you could get yourself to care about was that he was here, and he was fine.
After the initial shock, Bucky brought his arms around your waist, bringing you impossibly closer and burying his face into your hair, letting your smell and the feeling of you pressed against him, engulf his senses.
He doesn't know what peace felt like, but he is pretty sure it feels a lot like this.
The both of you stay like that for a moment longer before anger comes sweeping back to you and you pull away.
"Where the hell was - " Your words die on your tongue at the sight in front of you. James' face is bruised and he looks like he has been through hell. He looks tired, and all the shine that you had started to associate with his eyes is completely gone now.
"Holy shit." You almost shout before bringing your hand towards his face to gently run your fingers over his bruises.
He flinches first before closing his eyes and leaning into your touch and you can't help but feel guilty for being angry with him when he has clearly been going through something.
"How did you get hurt?"
He bites his lip and slowly opens his eyes, but doesn't look at you, instead choosing to focus on your palm that's still resting on his face. "I - I got into an accident." He says, cringing at the way he hesitates. He used to be able to lie like a breeze. It was the easiest thing in the world for him. But there is something in your eyes and something inside him that's begging him to stop this. To just come clean and face the consequences. But he knows for a fact that once he does that, your hand wouldn't gently rest on his face like it's doing now, healing wounds that he didn't even know existed and you wouldn't be looking at him like that. Like he could ever in this lifetime be deserving of the affection of someone like you. And he realizes he needs it, maybe just for tonight, but he needs to live in a false lie.
You bring your hand away as his words settle in. There is a hesitation in his voice and a pang in your chest that tells you he's lying, even though you desperately want to believe him. You search for something in his eyes, anything that could convince you that he was telling you the truth, but you find nothing.
You look down, blinking back the tears that are threatening to spill.
You shake your head and then look up only to be met by his battered face and you take a deep breath before reaching out for his hand.
You needed to help him right now. If you knew something about James that was not a lie, it was that he could be extremely stubborn and he would never take care of the bruises himself. You could either wallow in self-pity or demand the truth later. For now, you take his hand in yours and pull him towards the stairs leading to your apartment.

Bucky very slightly flinches in pain as you put the tweezers down on the plate, his bare minimum reaction to everything you were doing would have been a concern to you but you knew just how strong he could be.
You look up at his face and feel relieved at what you see. The wounds weren't very severe and you were thankful for the first aid box you always kept tucked inside your washroom.
It had been almost an hour since the both of you stepped into the apartment. His wounds were all catered to now, including the ones on his chest and back.
He sat there, shirtless, in the kitchen of your apartment as you slowly looked after the bruises one by one, using everything you had not to stare at his bare chest. It really should be illegal for someone to be this good-looking.
You could see the scars where metal met skin and you couldn't help the pain that swept into your chest. You had gently run your fingers across them as if that would somehow relieve his pain and Bucky would never say it out loud, but it somehow did.
Not a single word had been uttered between the both of you since you stepped into the apartment. James had tried talking, anything that would make you look at him even for a fleeting moment but your sheer reluctance to meet his eyes made his words die on his tongue.
When you are finally done mending all the wounds, you keep the first aid box to the side and take a seat in front of him, still refusing to look at him.
James looks at you but is met with complete ignorance from you. He knows he deserves this, but he would apologize if you just gave him the chance. He finally decides to fill the silence that has surrounded the apartment for so long. "Sweets - "
"How did you get hurt, James?" You cut him off, looking up to look directly into his eyes for the first time that night, begging him through your eyes to be honest for this once. To just cease your fears and tell you whatever he is so adamant about hiding.
Please, please, be honest with me, James.
I want to be able to believe you, to be able to trust you, to love you.
Please, don't lie to me.
"I told you, sweets. It was an accident."
You feel the worry and hurt morph into anger. "And where were you the past month? Preparing for the accident?"
You watched as he shook his head, unable to meet your eyes and you could feel your stomach drop. You didn't want to do this, not right now. He was hurt, and tired and your heart was begging you to stop and save the little shred of hope left between the both of you, but you had to know.
James let out a sigh and closed his eyes before muttering, "Sweets, I told you. It's nothing."
You let out an involuntary humorless chuckle, before closing your eyes shut, "Why is it so difficult for you to be honest with me, James?"
Bucky closed his eyes shut and clenched his fists, anything to stop him from spilling out everything to you. You sounded broken, hurt and he mentally berated himself for making you feel this way. There's nothing more he wanted than to let it all out, to lay the pieces of his soul bare in front of you.
But he instead leans his head closer, his forehead brushing against yours, willing you with everything he has to Munster and everything he couldn't put into words.
You let a silent sob as your lips quivered and a tear rolled down your cheek. "I - I don't know, James. You were gone for more than a month and I had absolutely no idea where you were. I was worried, but I shouldn't be. You don't owe it to me to tell you where you were, you don't owe me anything - "
"That's not true." He interrupted, voice pleading, something that felt so foreign to him, but for you, he would do it. For you, he would get down on his knees if it meant you would stop hurting.  "I need you to know that that's not true, sweets. You have no idea how sorry I am that I couldn't reach out to you, but please, believe me when I say this, I would have if I could, 'cause it was killing me. Every single moment not spent with you, not knowing how you are is torture, a torture I am not sure I will be able to survive for long."
You let out a broken sob as he brought his hand behind your neck, gently pushing you towards him, your foreheads now completely leaning on each other, your breaths mingling and you involuntarily close your eyes.
The whole world ceased to exist at that moment. The both of you comfort each other with your mere presence. There were a lot of things unsaid, a lot of things unvisited, for that small moment right there, all that mattered was that you had found each other.
After what felt like an eternity, you let out your worst fear. Something that has plagued your mind for a long time now. "Sometimes, I - I feel like I don't even know you, James like all of this is a huge lie, a front that would fall apart someday."
You don't let him answer as you pull back and stand up quickly to turn away. You had to get away from there. The intimacy of it all, and how real it felt, filled you with dread now.
But before you can walk away from him, James's hand shoots up and grabs hold of your wrist. His hold is gentle, but firm, keeping you with him. He looks up and you see in his eyes how vulnerable he is. How important this conversation is for him, too.
He gets up and takes a step forward and your heart begins beating so fast, you are pretty sure he would be able to hear it.
You take a step back if only to save your heart from getting away, a meek attempt at postponing getting it broken by the man in front of you, the man who had held your heart for a long time now, only for your back to hit the counter.
As James took another step ahead and with nowhere to go, you saw in his eyes as several different emotions pooled through his blue orbs. The intensity of his gaze makes you look away.
He slowly brings his hand under your chin and makes you look up at him and you realize there is hardly a few inches of distance between the both of you. Your thoughts turn frantic and it becomes impossible to focus on your breathing.
"You know me, sweets. You know me in ways nobody has ever before."
He whispers the sentence as if it was something to be kept just between you two, his voice dripping with conviction and honesty. His eyes determined to make you believe every single word falling from his lips, which were now mere inches from yours.
He knows it's true. In all those times when everything became a little too much and he wasn't himself, even when he didn't even realize it, you did. You could read him like a book and it would have scared him if it wasn't for what came after. Your comforting words, your slight touches that made him believe that this world hadn't gone to shit just yet, that everything could still be okay. You didn't have to know what troubled his mind and plagued his nightmares but you made it all better and silenced the whisperings of his troubled mind nonetheless.
You know it's stupid, but you believe him. You believe every single word that falls from his mouth, and you realize the man in front of you was always going to hold a piece of your heart, even if he had no idea. Because he might have lied about something that you didn't know, but it didn't have to matter. Nothing else in the world had to matter if he kept looking at you like this.
His intense gaze falls from your eyes to your lips for a fleeting second and you would have missed it, if not for your sheer inability to focus on anything else but him at that moment.
Your breath mingles as he leans closer, his eyes never leaving yours.
The world stops spinning when his lips finally touch yours.
The silence around you explodes and a world of colors appears from behind your closed eyes.
Every thought in your mind is stripped out and replaced with him.
Just him
The kiss is gentle, soft, almost tender. All the things that have been missing from his life for as long as he could remember.
He doesn't just feel the kiss on his lips, he feels it in every fiber of his being.
The way his bones feel like they are on fire. Like his soul has finally found water.
Like every part of him that came from a dead star is alive again.
It is everything he has ever wanted. You are everything he has ever wanted.
he slides his hand to your waist, pulling you impossibly closer as if even an inch of distance between the both of you was too much for him.
You encircle your arms around his neck, your fingers gently running through his hair.
You taste like coffee and cookies, and it's all exceptionally sweet and he wants to taste it all like a man who has been devoid of air for a long time.
When the necessity to breathe arises, you pull away. But James doesn't let you get too far, as he walks you toward the counter, trapping you between his arms.
Your lips are parted, still breathing heavily, when he leans in again. Now that he knew how your lips felt, he never wanted to be away from them for even a second.
This kiss is passionate and desperate, hands wandering, tongues desperately exploring each other's mouth, your back pushing against the counter.
James' hands get lower towards your thighs and he picks you up effortlessly placing you comfortably on the counter, stepping between your legs, not breaking up the kiss for even a moment.
He bites your lower lip and you let out a sinful moan, making all his blood run south.
He breaks up the kiss before bringing his attention to your neck, pressing open-mouthed kisses to your exposed skin.
"James" You hiss out when he kisses that particular spot.
James suddenly stops and looks at you. You would think he didn't want to take this further had it not been for the desperate hold he had on your waist.
He looks into your eyes, not an ounce of hesitation in his eyes, before saying, "Tell me to stop."
You frown before he continues. "Tell me to stop, sweets and I swear I will, 'cause if you don't," He swallows before continuing. "I can't promise you that you will be able to walk tomorrow."
You are soaking wet, which is proof enough that you want this as much as he does, so you don't ask him to stop. Instead, you pull him towards you by his collar and press your lips to his in a passionate kiss giving him all the permission he needed.
He brings his hand under your thighs before picking you up and you wrap your legs around his waist, encircling his neck with your arms, holding onto him for dear life.
He walks the both of you towards your bedroom without breaking the kiss.

The warmth of sun rays falls on your face as you slowly open your eyes.
The feeling of an arm splayed on your stomach makes your heart stop for a second before the memories of last night come sweeping back to you.
It all felt like a dream and considering just how good last night was, you would have actually considered it a dream if it wasn't for James' hand laying gently on your stomach while also effectively pinning you to the bed and the feeling of soreness between your legs.
But you didn't mind. Not when he had taken you apart more times than you could count last night, leaving you a mumbling mess every single time.
You look to your side and your eyes land on his sleeping form.
With gentle hues of the sunlight sweeping its away through the window and onto his face, he looked dreamy, ethereal and you couldn't help but stare at him.
It was still early into the morning but you knew you would have to get up soon enough, so, in a desperate attempt to engrave this memory into your head, you brought your fingers to his face, gently touching his cheek, his stubble a little rough under your touch.
It is a tender moment for you. One in which you can engulf in your feelings for him a little longer, before facing reality, a reality in which he might never feel the same way.
You watch as his eyes slowly flutter open, immediately turning into a warm look when they land on you and you can feel your cheeks turning warm.
He smirks before saying, "I could get used to this."
You chuckle and take your hand away before he holds it in his and brings it to his chest. "Good morning to you too, James."
"Good morning, sweets." He leans in and places a light feathery kiss on your lips and it's already the best start to a morning you've ever had.
When he leans back, his eyes never leaving yours, you attempt to get out from under his hand to get the day started, but he doesn't move his arm an inch, effectively keeping you in the same spot.
"We both have got work to do, James." You tried your hardest to be stern but the way he looked with his bed hair and a carefree smile on his face made your insides melt.
"Nope, it's too early." He mutters, closing his eyes and pressing his face on your neck, his breath on your exposed skin making your skin tingle.
You chuckle before wrapping your hands around him, already drifting toward sleep and you feel him smile.

The sound of footsteps brings you out of your stupor and you flutter your eyes open.
The bed beside you is empty and before you could think much about it, a voice from the door brings a smile to your face.
"Good morning, sweets."
You turn your head towards James who is leaning at the doorway his arms crossed. He isn't wearing a shirt and even after last night, it doesn't stop amazing you just how perfect he is. Your eyes drift over his form, noticing how his sweatpants hang low. You shook your head, willing yourself to not let your mind go there.
"Like what you see?" He says, a smirk is evident in his voice.
You shrug before blatantly lying, "I have seen better."
He pushes himself from the doorway. He knew you were lying. The goofy smile on your face, and the blissful look you adorned told him everything he had to know.
When you hang your legs from the bed, about to get up, he told you to sit right there, before walking out of the room. Even when he was gone, you couldn't help the smile on your face. Your sheets smelled like him.
He came back a couple of minutes later, a mini table in his hand.
When he kept it in front of you, you gasped as you saw what was on it. There was a plate full of pancakes, a warm cup of coffee, and your living room flowers in a mug beside it.
You looked up and whispered under your breath, "James, you didn't have to do this."
"Are you kidding, sweets? God knows how many sweet meals I owe you. There are a little too many, but this is a good start.
You chuckled before leaning in and pressing your lips to his in a brief kiss.
You took a piece of the pancake and tasted it, doing everything in yourself to not let the grimace show on your face.
James was good at a lot of things. Intimidating people, physical strength, reading, shooting (apparently), knowing exactly what you wanted, and definitely sex. But cooking wasn't one of those things.
"So?" He asked, squinting his eyes trying to gauge your reaction.
You smiled at him before shoving the piece down your throat. "It's amazing."
His smile widened before he leaned towards the plate. "yeah, I knew it. Let me taste it."
"No, no, you don't - "
You were too late as he took a bite of the pancake and gagged before spitting it out. "It's terrible."
He leaned again and took the plate away from you. "No human should be subjected to this."
You chuckled. "It isn't that bad, James."
He shook his head in disapproval.
The both of you had coffee (which was pretty good) with you telling him everything you had planned for the bakery that day.
Bucky looked at you talking and sipping coffee and couldn't help the grin on his face. Your messy bed hair, sitting in an oversized shirt, talking so passionately about something you loved, filled his heart with warmth.
It was all so peaceful. So serene.
And he might not accept it right now, but if he got to start his day exactly like this for the rest of his life, he wouldn't mind one bit.
Unable to help himself, he leans in and captures your lips in a kiss.
You taste like fresh coffee and terribly baked pancakes, it's his favorite taste in the world.
You reciprocate the kiss with equal fever before realizing you were involuntarily slipping into his lap.
It took everything in you to break the kiss. "Nope, we both have got work to do."
You get up from the bed, walking away from him.
"Maybe I could convince you to spend the day in bed?" James said with a voice that made walking away almost impossible.
"It's not gonna be that easy, James." You said with a smirk before reaching the doorway and turning to look at him.
"Your underestimation of me hurts me, sweets." He said before getting up and walking towards you.
You took off from the doorway and ran towards the living room, giggling.
You hadn't even reached the sofas when you felt a pair of strong arms wrapping around you.
James picked you up from the ground, his bare chest pressing to your back before giving you a twirl and turning you towards him.
"Knew I'd catch you, sweets."
Your lips were parted breathing heavily as he brought his lips to yours, entering his tongue into your mouth. His hands pulled you by your waist bringing you closer, before reaching towards the buttons on your shirt.
You gasped as you felt his clothed length against your core, all your resolve fading.
The ringing of his phone became a background noise initially before jolting the both of you out of your haze and you reluctantly pulled back, pointing towards the kitchen counter he had kept his phone on the previous night.
James growled before stepping towards you again, choosing to ignore whoever it was who wanted his attention so badly.
But you leaned back, adamant about him picking up the phone. It could be important.
He stepped towards his phone, pressing it to his ears without checking the caller id.
Steve's voice bellowed against his ear and Bucky knew he was pissed. "Where the hell have you been, Buck? I have tried reaching you since last night."
"I was - I was in the middle of something, punk. Is this important?" He deliberately doesn't tell him where he is, wanting to keep everything between you for as long as he could.
"Of course it's important. We have a meeting with Stark in 15 minutes and you are not even here. This deal is important, Buck and you know, he doesn't like to wait."
"I don't give a shit about Stark, Steve. Why can't you or Sam handle this?"
"Because you know about these weapons more than any of us. I don't understand, you spent months trying to get this deal. What is something so important now?" Bucky could hear the suspicion rising in his tone.
"Fine." He sighed. "I will be there in 10."
He cuts the call before turning back and walking towards the kitchen, where you'd sneak off to give him some space to talk on the phone.
"Sweets, Steve called. I have to go."  He sounded disappointed and regretful.
You tried to hide the disappointment in your voice before saying, "I told you we both have work to get to."
A moment of silence passed between the both of you, slightly awkward before he walked towards the bedroom to get dressed.
He walked back into the kitchen 5 minutes later, bid you goodbye, and walked towards the door.
He hastily turned back and took hurried steps towards the kitchen.
You looked up from the counter and frowned when you saw he had come back. But before you could utter a word, he pressed his lips against yours for a brief yet firm kiss.
"I was wrong, sweets. You are the best damn thing I have ever had."  He spoke with a smirk before walking back towards the door.
You felt red creep up to your neck and you were stuck in place for a moment before shaking yourself out of your thoughts.
For the rest of the day, you felt giddy, happiness settling inside you, making you feel like you were flying.

Mob!Bucky Barnes x Fem!Ballerina Reader
(I do my best to be as non-descriptive as possible, but I do use she / her and mention that reader is a ballerina)
Inspired by the question: Have you ever tried to eat at a restaurant, which happened to be a mafia / mob front, but you didn’t know that, and everyone inside just stared as you walked in because nobody actually eats there?
I FINALLY decided what I want my first piece back to be and I’m so excited shdiznejfns it’s very funny if I do say so myself. Once I got the idea I rushed and typed it on my phone and I already KNOW there are so many spelling errors because I have auto correct turned off and right now it looks like shit hahdndisfn. BUUUUT I just need to give it a quick read through / fix errors on my laptop and we’ll be good to go! Full preview below the cut :)
Tumblr media
It had been Bucky’s idea to name the restaurant Tony’s. After their dear friend who had given his life in a war that should’ve never been fought.
It had been Peter’s idea to ‘open a restaurant’. He pointed out that it would be the perfect realistic cover, though Steve argued that they didn’t really need one. Everyone in Brooklyn and the neighboring cities knew who they were, why did they need to put up any sort of front?
In the end, Bucky sided with Peter. They needed a place to talk shop and handle business, and it had to be somewhere that the outside wouldn’t attract any trouble (aka law enforcement). A warehouse was too obvious and was practically begging to be raided. He agreed with Steve, though, in that everyone knew who they were and what their business really was. He pointed out that it was actually a good thing. It would be pretty obvious that the restaurant wasn’t a restaurant, and they wouldn’t attract actual customers. But they’d make it legit, so that they couldn’t be shut down. Like Peter said, they needed a realistic cover.
Within a month, Tony’s was up and running. Running, as in the lights were on during what would be deemed normal business hours. The door was kept locked, but that didn’t matter because as Bucky predicted, no one tried to actually eat there.
Until one day when rehearsal ran nearly 2 hours late. You were tired, exhausted mentally and physically, and you just wanted some comfort food before heading back to your apartment to enjoy the next 2 days off. Still somewhat new to the city, you decided to get off of the subway one stop earlier, and find a restaurant on your way home.
Luckily for you, a neon sign reading TONY’S caught your eye. Unbeknownst to you, there was a meeting going on inside, and someone had forgotten to lock the front entrance.
As you pushed the door open, you had no idea the events that were about to unfold.

i love you (stuckyxreader)
A/N: Actually my first post so feedback is super welcome. :)
Warnings: angst to fluff, mentions of gunshot, mentions of blood, hospital (i think thats it)
w/c: 554
Fingers gripped my cheeks roughly as I felt my head being lifted onto something warm. Another set of hands pressed into the wound on my stomach which sent copious amounts of pain through my body. I left out a groan in protest and heard my name being called out, though it sounded distant.
“Y/N?! Baby can you hear me?”
Even though my eyelids felt like they were glued shut, I forced myself to crack them open slightly, to be met with deep blue eyes that belonged to Steve. Fear, anger and relief were only some of the emotions that swirled in the depths of blue as he stroked my hair softly. It took me a few moments, but from the corner of my eye, my vision picked up on Bucky pressing his hands into my side, trying to stop the blood from leaving my body. It was only then, when I remembered the bullet that had hit me.
Tears began to fall from my green eyes and my body began to shake as the weight of the scenario hit me.
I was going to die.
Steve gently brushed the tears away, speaking to me but I couldn’t hear him. It felt like I was underwater. I whispered a soft “I love you” to Steve, watching as his eyes darken and his face filled with rage. My eyes met Bucky’s and I repeated the statement as he began to shake his head.
Everything slowly started to dim, and I felt hands frantically shake me before the world went dark, the pain vanishing.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The first thing that hit me was the smell. It smelt overly medicinal and sterile. Confusion filled me as I pried my eyes open, wincing at the bright white lights that shined above me. I let out a moan as my body was overwhelmed with pain. The sharp throbbing from my side accompanied with the dull headache made me nauseous.
Suddenly, Bucky’s face appeared above me, his eyes swimming with concern as squeezed my hand to make sure I was really awake before leaning over and pecking my cheek.
“How are you feeling, doll?” He asked with a raspy voice. I went to answer him but my throat wouldn’t cooperate, instead sending me into a fit of coughs. Immediately, Bucky lunged forward to grab the water that rested on the small table beside me. He helped me drink some water and I cherished the way the cool liquid ran down my throat, easing the ache.
“I’m sore.” I merely replied, before looking around the room.
“Where’s Stevie?” I asked the man in front of me. Bucky opened his mouth to answer before the door flung open, making me flinch at the sound. I was met with the sight of Steve looking at me with wide eyes as he quickly made his way over to me. His eyes roamed along my body as if he was expecting to see any new injuries before he pressed a firm kiss to my forehead.
“I’m—We’re sorry sweetheart.” They said as their heads hung in shame.
Shaking my head I grabbed each of their hands before pressing a kiss to the back of each.
“I love you.” I repeated to them giving them a small smile, before I closed my eyes and got some more well-needed rest.

We'll find out why later on so here we go....

“One more piece of tape.” You said as you held your hand out.
“Here you go.”
You place the tape on the last corner and then smooth it out to make sure it stays in place.
“Mom are you done?” Eli pops his head into the room you’re in. “They’re downstairs.”
“Yes, come on.”
You and Eli were two balls of energy. Everything was in place and Regina was more than supportive in your excitement. For the last two days you had been working on getting a room ready for Peter. He was finally being released from the hospital and considering how things were going Steve thought it would be better if Peter stayed for a while.
There’s voices coming from the hallway so you and Eli stand together and wait for the door to open. Steve smiles as he opens the door and steps inside. Peter is right behind him.
“Welcome home.” You and Eli yell at the same time. Peter, still being medicated, is startled before he starts laughing.
“Thanks guys. Did you help decorate?” He asks Eli who walked up to Peter and hugged him gently.
“Yeah. Do you wanna watch a movie?”
“That sounds like a great idea bud.”
“Eli, let Peter get settled first. Why don’t you go help Dom make some snacks for the two of you?”
“Ok ma. I’ll be right back.” Eli says before he’s running out the door.
“It’s good to see you’re back.” You said as you gave Peter a hug of your own.
“Glad to be back too.”
You smile as you help him get comfortable in bed. Regina helps by getting his bags from Sam and sorting out the items.
“Who’s she?” Peter nods in her direction.
“This is Regina, the newest member of our staff.”
Peter gives her an awkward smile and his eyes dart to Steve. He thought he’d find the boss checking her out but his eyes were only on you. Peter knew from the first moment Steve liked you but he was stubborn. He wouldn’t let emotions cloud his judgment. Steve had warned him to keep a level head and to keep feelings out of the business. But seeing him now it would seem as if his boss was going against his own advice.
“Nice to meet you. Let me know if you need anything.” Regina offers. “I’m going to get back to work.”
“Thanks.” Steve says as he moves so that she can reach the door.
You stay for a few more minutes catching up with Peter before you excuse yourself too. Bucky and Sam walk out with you.
“We’ll let you get settled but we do have to talk about what happened at some point.” Steve says.
“Of course boss.” Peter nods. “I’m glad you brought them here. Y/N and Eli I mean. It was just the two of them and with Eli as sick as he is Y/N needs all the support she can get.”
“And she has it now. Why didn’t you tell me about her and her son?”
Peter looks down at his hands.
“You’re not in trouble.”
“She asked me not to. Simple as that. Eli is her priority and I respected that.”
“You’re loyal, I like that about you kid.” Steve says. “You’re not keeping any other secrets from me are you?”
“No sir. Eli is the only thing I’ve ever kept a secret.”
“Good. Now get some rest.”
Tumblr media
Steve flexed his hand, assessing the damage on his knuckles from the interrogation he’d been a part of. He hissed when the cold alcohol swab touched the open skin on his other hand.
“Don’t be a baby.” You murmur as you throw away the used alcohol pad.
You turn away from Steve to grab some ointment and when you turn back he’s lighting a cigarette.
“Hey.” Steve protests when you snatch the unlit cigarette from his mouth. “What the hell, I need a smoke. I'm stressed.”
“No smoking in the house.”
“It’s my house.” Steve argues back.
“Elijah can’t inhale smoke so either quit or go outside to the other end of the yard where he doesn’t play.”
“So now I can’t do whatever I want in my own house?”  Steve glares at you but you aren’t intimidated by it.
You roll your eyes before taking his hand again and finish cleaning it up before moving around to the next one.
“I didn’t ask you to move in. You brought me here and told me this place was safe for me and my kid. Now if you go and trigger an asthma attack it won't be good for him.”
Steve huffs but agrees. He sits silently for a moment as he watches you.
“You know maybe I should get you a sexy nurse uniform.”
“And who would I wear it for?”
“Your only patient.” Steve says, matter of fact. “Do you think I’d let anyone else see you dressed in something like that?”
“I don’t know, I thought it was my choice who I let see me with or without clothes on.” You turn your head to look at him over your shoulder, a smirk playing on your lips when Steve’s jaw clenched. “What? Does it bother you that I could go out there and find someone and let him take me home?”
Steve stands abruptly and spins you so that you’re chest to chest with him. His hands lay flat against the flat surface of the desk  behind you, his eyes darkening at just the thought of someone else putting their hands on you. Your breath hitches at the intensity in his gaze.
“Do you really think I would let that happen? Let some asshole touch you.”
“It’s not up to you, Steve. I’m a grown woman, I can do whatever I want. Why do you care anyway? Are you still just trying to get me in your bed? Is this why you’ve been so helpful, you think that helping me with Eli will get me to sleep with you? I won’t risk it. My job is much more important than a one night stand with you. Besides I thought we were past this you sleeping with your maids thing.”
Steve groans in frustration, his head falling to your shoulder. You smile and play with the hair at the nape of his neck.
“No. I’m helping you with Eli because I genuinely care.” He pulls back to look at you, his gaze much softer now. “Maybe I wasn’t clear enough before but I will be now. I want you. Not just for one night.”
“Well two nights isn’t going to cut it either.”
“You’re being a brat, you know that? I'm going to win you over.”
You laugh and get closer to his face, his eyes immediately going to your lips.
“Well I’m not going to make it easy for you.” You murmur and kiss the tip of his nose just as the door opens.
Bucky walks in, his steps falter as he watches the two of you separate yourself from one another.
“Hey Buck, right on time I was just finishing up here.” You say as if he didn’t walk in on the two of you in a compromising position.
“Uh-ok cool.”
You pick up the first aid kit and place it back in its spot within Steve’s office. As you head for the door you stop and turn to look at both men.
“How much longer is that mess going to be downstairs?” You asked about the nameless idiot that shot Peter.
“It will be cleaned up soon.”
“Ok, just let me know if you need me to take Eli out for the day. I don’t want him to see any of that.”
“Of course.” Steve smiled and you walked out.
“What was that about?”
“Don’t worry about it.” Steve waves his hand dismissively.
“Ok? Anyways, Beck still won’t talk. We’ve tried everything.”
Steve sighed as he ran a hand over his beard. “We’re going to have to call either Lloyd or Loki in. But we’ll move Beck first. I don’t want that done here.”
“I’ll figure out where to move him to.”
“Thanks, I’ll make the call.” Steve leans forward and grabs the phone while Bucky heads back out.
Tumblr media
You heard Steve’s voice before you walked into Elijah’s room. Almost as soon as you had moved in, Eli requested that Steve read with him at night before bed. You told your son you weren’t sure that was possible but in the short time you’ve been there Steve hasn’t missed a night. Although reading didn’t take long, all of the medication Eli was on made him sleepy. It didn’t stop him from fighting it and trying to stay awake for just a few more minutes. You lean against the doorframe and watch Steve tuck Eli in and turn off the lamp next to his bed.
“Hey.” Steve says as he walks out of the bedroom.
“He didn’t put up much of a fight did he?”
“No.” Steve shakes his head. “I think all of the excitement of having Peter here wore him out.”
You smile while looking back into the darkened bedroom. “I’m not surprised. He loved when Pete would come over and play video games.”
Steve’s eyes were still on you when you looked back up at him. There was an intense feeling of need between the two of you as you stood in the quiet dimly lit hallway. One that pulled you closer to each other. He cleared his throat and you looked away.
“I have some business to attend to at one of my clubs. Will you be alright here alone?”
“Yeah. Peter is sleeping too and I think Dom had a poker game. I’m just gonna enjoy a nice bubble bath before bed.”
Steve groans and closes his eyes. You bite back a laugh.
“Do you need a hand with this bubble bath?”
You smile and shake your head before starting to walk backwards toward your own room. “I’m good, thanks. I can take care of myself just fine.”
“Tease.” Steve mutters as he watches you walk into your room.
****
Steve shook hands with his newest associate, Erik Killmonger. They had worked together before but this was going to be on a more permanent and lucrative basis. The two men were in the vip section with a drink in hand celebrating their new business deal.
They looked down at the sea of people dancing and drinking as they talked about logistics and expectations.
“Good evening gentlemen.” A sickly sweet voice called out from behind them.
It was a voice Steve recognized and immediately tensed because of it. He turned slowly, anger already rising within him. A glare was sent in the direction of the uninvited guest but she was unphased.
“What are you doing here, Sharon?” Steve demanded to know.
“I just came by to say hello, see how my old friend was doing.”
“You shouldn’t be here. Not my club and not in New York.”
She rolled her eyes and sat at one of the plush couches, motioning for a waitress to get her a drink. “I heard you were doing business and I have a proposition for you.”
Erik looked between the two and excused himself after mentioning something about someone catching his eye. It left Steve alone with Sharon although Bucky quickly and quietly joined them.
“So what do you say, Rogers? Want to make a deal?” Sharon asked as she batted her lashes at Steve.
“No. You shouldn’t even be in New York but I’ll be a gentleman and give you twelve hours to leave.” Steve nods at Bucky who moves and grabs Sharon by the arm.
“You can’t be serious? Is this because of Peggy?”
Steve tensed at the mention of her name. It brought back bitter and hurtful memories. He kept his expression unreadable though and looked back at the blonde.
“I’m a man of my word. I said I’d never work with The Carter Family again and I intend to keep it. I also told you that you have twelve hours to leave.”
Sharon pulls her arm away from Bucky’s hold. “It’s a shame you’re letting your emotions get in the way of a very lucrative deal.”
“Sharon-” Steve raised his hand to stop her from talking when she opened her mouth.
“Steve.”
“What Buck?” He looked over a Bucky, annoyed that he was being interrupted.
“We have to go. Check your phone.”
Steve pulls out his phone to find a few missed calls and texts from your phone.
Y/N: Steve mom needs help.
Y/N: Come home now!
Y/N: Please!!
Y/N: Answer your  phone.
Steve immediately called you back but you didn’t answer. The urgency came from the first message that was obviously from Eli. He wasn’t sure how he missed yours and Peter’s calls but he left Sharon forgotten in his VIP section and headed back home with Sam and Bucky.
Tumblr media
Eli and Peter were sleeping. Dom had gone to a weekly poker game with his friends. The house was quiet and you have wanted to take advantage of the bathtub in your room for a while. So that’s what you did. You lit some candles and added epsom salts and oils into the water. It was perfect. With some music playing softly in the background the only thing missing was a glass of wine. You grabbed your robe and headed downstairs with the intention of pouring yourself some.
It was while passing Elijah’s room that something felt off. While you left the door ajar it was opened a little too wide. Then there was a smell of cigarette smoke that bothered you. Especially after asking Steve not to smoke around him. You knew that request bothered him but he wouldn’t go do anything to harm Eli either. So you crept up to the door and peered inside just to make sure Eli was still asleep. You could see him on the bed sleeping soundly but the cigarette smoke clung in the air heavily. Since the room was dark other than the sliver of light that illuminated the bed you struggled to make anything else out.
You hear it before you see it. The deep inhale in the corner of the room. Then the lit cigarette. The person smoking takes a step out of his hiding place and you can barely make out his short slicked back hair and large frame. Your breathing stops as you stare at this stranger in your son’s room.
“Well what do we have here?” It’s almost a whisper but it sends an unpleasant shiver down your spine.
“Get out of this room right now.”
The stranger walked closer to you. He was tall and obviously strong. You were sure he would overpower you but he was a threat to your son. You’d do anything to protect him. With every step he took you took one back in the hopes of leading him out into the hallway.
“Aren’t you a pretty little thing? Rogers must be treating you well if you walk around like that.” He motioned toward your robe which had loosened and revealed your bra. He licked his lips as he eyed you. “The kid might be a bit of a mood killer though.”
You wrapped the robe around yourself tightly and headed towards the stairs. He stalked towards you with a predatory gaze in his eyes. Before you could get to the top of the stairs he grabs the back of your neck, pressing his body against your. One hand wraps around your throat and the other starts roaming your body.
“That’s no way to treat a guest, Honey.” He whispered in your ear before sniffing your hair.
“Let me go.”
“Show me a good time and maybe I will. Or maybe I’ll keep you.”
He started dragging back into the hallway and opened the first door he found.
“No. Please don’t.” You tried to push against him in hopes of avoiding being thrown into the bed. But he was taller and obviously stronger than you.
“You should cooperate sweetheart. Maybe I’ll go easy on ya.”
You're thrown onto the bed. The robe you were wearing is now open, exposing your bra and revealing the shorts you were wearing. You cry and beg as your attacker moves to crawl over you, his lips find their way to your neck as he holds your hands above your head with one hand. His grip is hard and painful. The other he uses to keep your face still as he kisses you. He pulls back and smirks down at you.
“Look at you, you’re so pretty when you cry.” He laughs as he moves around in order to undress you. In a moment of desperation you kick your feet up and manage to kick him in his groin. “You fucking cunt.” In his moment of weakness you kick higher this time and your foot connects with his face. He grabs his nose and starts cursing at you but you’re moving away from him.
You ran faster this time in hopes of getting down the stairs. As long as he was away from Eli you didn’t care what happened to you.
“Dumb whore. I was going to be good to you but now you’re fucked. When I’m done with you, you’ll never see the kid again.” He yelled as he followed you down the stairs. “Stop running or I’ll go back up there and shoot the kid.”
Turning to look over your shoulder slowly you saw the gun aimed at you.
“I really only came here for one thing. You see your little fuck buddy, Rogers, he has an associate of mine.” He says while taking a few steps down towards you.
Out of the corner of your eye you saw Elijah creep out of his room. He stood there unmoving as he watched a stranger pull a gun out on his mom. You prayed he would go hide again and were relieved when he moved away from the railing.
On the landing that led to the second floor you stood looking up at the intruder. He takes slow deliberate steps just to show you that he was in control. Your tear stained cheeks do nothing to deter his attack.
“If you tell me where he is,” he pulls his phone out and shows you a picture. “I won’t have the kid watch what I do to you. I won’t sell him off to the highest bidder either.”
A door opens up at the end of the hall. He stops on the last step so that he’s hidden from whoever is there.
“Y/N?” Peter’s sleepy voice breaks the tense silence. “Y/N, I need some help.”
The stranger takes a peek around the corner and sees Peter making his way down slowly. You take his distraction and charge at him full force hoping to at least knock him down and get the gun away from him. Barreling into him, shoulder first, he falls back. It wasn’t so much your strength but catching him off guard that helped you. He groaned as he grabbed his head, a small amount of blood started to trickle from the apparent gash at the back. While it looked like it hurt it didn’t completely knock your aggressor out.
“Peter, get back in your room. Call Steve or anyone tell them to get back now.” You yelled before running down the stairs with the gun in your hand.
Not even hitting his head against a few steps slows down your attacker. It forces you to head into the kitchen instead of outside. You turn on your heel and hold the gun up, pointing it at him.
“Don’t move or I’ll shoot you.” You say.
“Really? I don’t think you’ve ever used a gun before.”
“First time for everything.” You reply. “On your knees.” The gun is still pointed at him but it shakes almost violently in your hands.
He smirks and takes another step closer. The gun goes off but it hits the floor. It makes your hands shake even more.
“Don’t. Move.” You say through gritted teeth.
There’s movement behind him and then Peter is telling you to move. The intruder turns around to face Peter knowing you won’t be able to shoot. He still gets shot once in the shoulder and in each kneecap forcing him to the ground. When you stand from behind the kitchen island you see Peter standing with a gun in his hand, suppressor attached.
“Are you ok?” He asks while keeping his gun aimed down at the intruder.
“I think so.” You say with a shaky voice while looking him over. “You’re bleeding.”
“I think I ripped my stitches.”
“I’ll get you cleaned up. Let me just-“ you look around unsure of what you can use to restrain him.  “I’ll be right back.” You run down the steps to the basement on wobbly legs.
“We can use this.”
You say as you get to the top stair with some rope. Peter nods but grimaces at any slight movement.
“What do I do?” You look up at Peter.
“Y/N, Peter?”
“In the kitchen.” You yell out.
Coulson’s quick steps echo throughout the otherwise quiet home. He stares at the scene in front of him bewildered for just a moment.
“Give me the rope.” He says and moves into action.
You help Peter get to the couch. “I’m gonna get the first aid kit ok? I’ll be right back.”
“Hey,” he catches your hand. “Go check on Eli first, this can wait a few minutes.”
He saw the relief in your eyes and the way your tense shoulders slumped.
You run up the stairs and head directly to his room where you find the door locked.
“Elijah, baby it’s me.” You knock. “Baby please open the door. It’s ok.”
The door opens and Eli’s crying face comes into view.
“Mom.” He rushes to you, burying his face in your stomach and wrapping his arms around your waist.
“It’s ok, it’s safe now. Are you ok?”
You feel him nodding against you. The only thing you can do is hug him back and assure him that he’s ok. After a few minutes you pull away, kneeling to get a better look at him and make sure there are no marks on him.
“Why was that man here? Why did he want to hurt you?”
“I don’t know, baby.” You brush away his tears. “Let’s go sit.”
Eli takes your hand and walks back into his room. You aren’t sure if it’s him shaking or you but it’s almost uncontrollable.
“I tried to call and text Steve but he didn’t answer.” He holds out your phone.
“You did a good job, come here.”
You take your phone and call Steve immediately but there’s no answer. Then you call Sam and Bucky and still nothing. You send them all a few texts and you start to worry that they have been hurt. Dom answers right away and he tells you that he’ll be back in a few minutes. After that you sit against the headboard and bring Elijah to sit on your lap and you hold him tight like when he was a baby. The only thing you could do now was wait.
Tumblr media
Steve flew through traffic in order to make it back as fast as he could. His mind raced as he tried and failed to get an answer from you. He came up with the worst case scenarios of what could be happening. All Steve hoped was that you and Eli were ok no matter what the issue was. He would never forgive himself if anything happened to either of you.
Sam and Bucky weren’t far behind when Steve finally pulled into the driveway of his mansion. Immediately he knew something was way off. The normal guards that were posted around the perimeter were missing. He grabbed his gun as he stepped out of his car. When he looked backed, Sam and Bucky also had their guns out.
Steve rushed to the door, opening it without warning. His gun was up as he walked in with Sam and Bucky behind him. They walk into the living room only to find Peter sitting back on the couch, his hand putting pressure on the area where he had been stitched up previously. Dom was fussing over him trying to help stop the bleeding.
“Peter? What happened?” Steve asked, getting the attention of the semiconscious young man.
“There’s this guy. He broke in.”
“I have him down in the room.” Coulson stepped out of the kitchen. “I got an alert from the security alarm. I got here just as Peter shot him. It seems he had his eyes set on Y/N.”
“Where is she?”
“Upstairs.” Peter answers. “With Eli.”
Steve looks back and Bucky lifts his chin up towards the stairs.
“We’ll go see who this idiot is.”
“Get Peter medical help and find out what happened to the guards.”
“Clint and Nat are on their way.” Coulson says. “I’ll have them take Peter in.”
Steve nods and heads upstairs. He takes two at a time until he reaches the third floor. His heart is beating out of his chest as he walks up to Eli’s room, worried about the state he would find you in. He knocks but doesn’t get an answer so he opens the door and takes a peek inside. The cigarette smoke still lingers but he doesn’t find either you or Eli. Steve walks out and heads to your room, knocking a bit more harshly than he intended too.
“Y/N? Can you open up?” Steve calls out. After a minute the door opens and your tear stained face peeks out.
“Steve.” You whimper when you finally see him.
“C’mere, baby.” Steve pulls you into his chest. He feels your whole body trembling and his arms tighten around you. “Are you ok? Is Elijah?”
You nod against his chest and begin to sob now that Steve was there.
“It’s over. You’re safe.” Steve murmured.
He kept as calm as he could but he felt nothing but rage. Not only did someone think they could just walk into his home without any repercussions, they also terrorized you. There would be hell to pay once he was downstairs to get the necessary information.
“Do either of you need to see a doctor?”
“No. We’re ok, just shaken up a bit.” You reply as you finally look up at him again.
“Alright. What about you? Are you sure you’re not hurt? Did he do anything to you?”
You avert your eyes and Steve’s stomach drops.
“What did he do? Did he touch you?” Steve’s voice hardened. There was this underlying and unsettling sharpness to it.
You nodded. Steve took a deep breath while he slowly pulled away and turned his back towards you. He ran a hand over his beard as he thought about all the ways he was going to rip the asshole that dared touch you apart.
Steve turned back to look at you. “Did he force hi-“
“Tried to. I got away from him before he could.”
“Ok.” Steve takes a deep breath. “C’mon let’s get you back to bed. You need to rest.”
Tumblr media
Once Steve realizes that you’re asleep he leaves the room quietly. He walks down to the first floor to find out what the hell is going on in his own home. There will be hell to pay for this, not just for the disrespect of breaking into his house but for what you went through.
“Update, now.” He demands.
“The idiot that broke in is none other than Jack Rollins. Apparently he was looking for Beck when he stumbled upon Eli’s room.” Bucky says. “He’s a sick twisted bastard from what Peter told me he heard.”
“Did he say anything else?”
Bucky shakes his head. Steve starts rolling up his sleeves. He heads for the basement door with Bucky on his heels.
“What are you going to do?”
“What do you think?” He growls but continues toward the basement door.
“Steve, think about this.” Bucky says. “We could get information out of him if we do this right.”
Steve stops and turns to look at Bucky and the rest of his team.
“He put his hands on Y/N. I don’t give a fuck about information.”
Bucky’s eyes harden at the new information.
“I’ll come with you.”
The two men walk down to the basement and into the soundproof room. Sam was standing over Rollins, who already had a few cuts and scrapes along with the gunshot wounds. Steve doesn’t waste any time at all as he connects his fist with Rollin’s jaw. The man, who had been tied to a chair, falls backwards.
“I’m guessing that pretty little thing you have upstairs told you about our time together.” Rollins chuckles. “She was real sweet.0
Steve lands a few more hits before he stretches his hand out behind him. Bucky already knows what Steve wants and hands him a knife. Steve inspects it carefully before looking down at the man below him.
“Oohh should I be-Aahh.” Rollins screams when Steve plunges the knife into the bullet wound on his shoulder. Blood splatters into Steve’s face but it doesn’t deter him.
****
When Steve finally stopped his assault he was covered in blood. Steve’s anger hadn’t subsided even as he walked back into the kitchen. The others were gathered around the island talking about what happened when he joined them.
“Has anyone checked in on Y/N?” He asked.
“Still sleeping boss.”
He nods and starts walking out. “I’ll be back in about 10 minutes. I want to know everything when I come back.”
Steve goes up to his room to shower and change quickly. Then he heads back down to the kitchen. Dom has a cup of coffee ready for him. The sun was just starting to light up the sky. Steve grabs his cup and takes a sip.
“What do we have?” He asks as he takes a seat at the kitchen table.
“Rollins killed some of the guards around the perimeter, enough to slip by undetected. He hacked the security system. He couldn’t completely deactivate it but he delayed the notification Coulson would get.” Clint said.
“He was looking for Beck. But he won’t say anything else.”
“What should we do now?” Bucky asks.
“First I want him out of the house. Get him some medical attention, I’m not done with him just yet.” Steve orders. “Let’s double up the guards. Let’s have Jensen double check the security system and upgrade whatever needs to be upgraded.”
“How is Peter doing?”
Steve and the rest of the group turn to see you standing at the entrance to the kitchen. Even though you slept most of the night you look exhausted. Eyes are red and slightly swollen as if you’d just been crying.
“Peter’s fine. He just ripped some stitches, he’s in his room sleeping.” Nat tells you.
You nod as Dom walks over to you.
“Want some coffee, Mia Cara?”
You shake your head. Dom opens his arms for you and you step into his embrace. The older man pats your back in a comforting manner.
“You’re safe now, Mia Cara. We won’t let anything like this happen again. You hear me?” He reassures you.
You just nod against his chest. Everyone silently shuffles out of the kitchen. Dom places a chaste kiss on your forehead and leaves, giving you and Steve some privacy.
“How are you feeling?” Steve asks as he gets up and moves towards you.
You shrug. Other than being worried about Eli you were numb to the whole situation.
“Baby, look at me.” Steve says softly.  He tucks a finger under your chin and pulls up so that you have to look at him.
You’re fighting back tears for what felt like the millionth time.
“Tell me what you need?”
“I don’t know.”
“How about some time away from here? We can get away for a weekend and take Eli somewhere fun. What do you say?” Steve offers.
It angered him all over again to see you like this. A shell of who you really are. Your arms wrapped around yourself. Steve didn’t like seeing you down like this although it was completely understandable.
You shrug again in response and he sighs.
“Why don’t you go rest for a little bit longer and I’ll have Dom make you something and bring it up.”
“I can’t.” You mumble as you look around the room.
“Why?”
“I have to work.”
“You’re joking right? You aren’t going to be working today. Regina will be in any minute now, she’ll do what she can. You worry about taking care of yourself and Eli.” Steve says as he leads you out of the kitchen and into the living room.
In the distance you hear the door that is normally used by the house staff to come in and out.
“See, that's probably Regina right now. I’ll talk to her.”
You gasp when Regina appears in the doorway. She’s sporting a black eye, busted lip, bruises around her throat and she’s holding her side as if it hurt. You rush over to her to make sure she’s ok.
“What happened?”
“The-these men they-they broke into my house early this morning.” She sobbed before hiding her face in your shoulder.
“Fuck. Bucky, Sam.” Steve yells for them. The two men rush out of the hallway that leads to Steve’s office.
“What happened?” Bucky asks once he sees Regina crying.
You tell them what she had just said since she couldn’t control her crying. Both men look back at Steve, the same anger in their eyes. Dom and Coulson soon join the others.
“Do you know who did this?” You ask her as you guide her to the couch.
“No. I’ve never seen them before. I was sleeping when they broke in.” Regina sniffles.
“Did they say what they wanted?”
Regina nods. “They told me that I had to get whatever information that I could on you and report back to them.”
“I have a few questions.”
“Ask away.”
“How did they know you work for me?” Steve asks and you look between him and Regina.
“I don’t know, maybe they had been following me?”
“Why tell me?”
Regina swallows thickly as tears well up in her eyes again. “Well everyone here has been so nice to me, and this is the first job I don’t have to get almost naked to get money for,” She sighs, wincing due to her injured ribs. “I didn’t want to ruin what I had here. But my grandma, she’s in a nursing home and they had pictures of her. They said that they’d hurt me and make her watch.”
“They said the same about me and Eli.”
“Wait what?” Regina looks at you confused.
“Someone broke in last night.”
“What is happening?” Regina asked. She was scared and so were you. The only difference was that you knew Steve would make things right.
“I don’t know but I’m going to find out. In the meantime you can’t go back to your place.” Steve tells her. “We’ll have someone pick up some clothes for you and have a doctor look you over. Do you think you could recognize these men if you saw them again?”
“Maybe. Oh wait,” Regina grabs her phone. “Would a video help?”
“You have a video of them?”
She looks at Bucky and nods. “I installed a doorbell camera and a camera in the living room. Here, you can definitely see their faces.”
“You have a camera in your living room?” Sam asks suspiciously.
“I live alone and I’m single. There have been some break ins around the neighborhood. I was trying to protect myself.” She says as she hands the phone over to Bucky.
Sam and Steve huddle around Bucky to look at the video Regina had. They see her being dragged out of her room and beaten. Unfortunately they didn’t recognize the men in the video but they would find them nonetheless.
“Thank you for this. I don’t know who they are but we’re going to find them.” Steve tells her. “Y/N can I talk to you for a minute?”
You get up and follow Steve into his office where he closes the door behind you.
“What’s wrong?” You ask Steve after watching him pace back and forth for a few minutes. “Is it about whoever broke into Regina’s place?”
Steve leans against his desk and crosses his arms over his chest.
“I’ll most likely have to be out more. At least while I track these sons of bitches down.”
“Ok, and?”
“Will you be ok here? After last night… I’m doing everything to make sure this place is more secure.”
“Ok.”
“I’m also going to assign Nat to be with you whenever you go out. I know you’re independent but I need you to do as she says if something were to happen.”
“Do you think someone would try to hurt me again?”
“Honestly? I don’t know. I mean look at what they did to Regina and she hasn’t even been here that long. I’m not going to risk you and Eli being in danger again.” Steve pushes himself off the desk and walks over to you. “It should’ve never happened in the first place. I’m going to handle this.”
“I’m more worried about Elijah than myself.”
“Of course you are because you’re a good mom.” Steve cups your face when he sees your eyes start getting glassy. “You just take care of him like you always do and I’ll keep you both safe.”
“You promise?”
“I promise.”

The rest of the weekend had been generally uneventful. You worked on the books and finances for the farm while Curtis did chores on Saturday and hung out with a book of your own on Sunday.
Bucky had become scarce. You had hardly seen him since Friday night besides mealtimes. Other than that, he was in his room, outside on the gravel talking to Steve over the phone, or shadowing Curtis to relearn how to do the tasks a sixth time.
You admired his work ethic and dedication to your agreement, but couldn’t help but feel that he was avoiding you. Was it something you said? Was he angry? To be honest, your memory seemed pretty clear. The last thing you remember was being grateful that he was there to help you get rid of Cole, and then waking up in bed to medicine and a glass of water on your nightstand. Not much could’ve happened in that small gap, right?
Tumblr media
Wrong. Bucky had been consumed by the thought of you since that night. Every moment he went back to it, the nerves in his fingers burned all the way up to his shoulders with the thought of your touch. His gut felt tingly in a way he hadn’t experienced since he was a young boy daunted with the task of rising to power in his organization.
Was he nervous? No. Bucky Barnes doesn’t get nervous. He just gets pensive. When things seem like they’re getting out of his hands, he takes a step back to make a plan, then muscles his way through until he gets what he wants. He was used to using that same strategy to tamper down every emotion he felt except pride, and was well-practiced at that, so why did it all come crumbling from the simple act of you on his arm? Or was it the fact that he wished you taking his hat and putting it on your head could hold actual meaning? As soon as he identified his feelings, he called Steve.
“Whaddup, Buck? Not much has changed around here since last night, so I assume something has changed on your end?”
Bucky sighed. Why did he call in the first place? The last thing he wanted to do was acknowledge this… ~feeling~ by doing it the dignity of speaking it out loud. That made it real. “Um, no, not really. Just wanted to check in. I’ve got the day off.”
Steve paused on the other side of the line. “Okay….are you sure about that? Because you don’t seem very sure about that. Was everything okay at the bar? You didn’t get into a fight, did you?”
The corner of Bucky’s mouth turned up and he sighed in relief. “Oh, no, yeah, I’m sure. And I definitely did not get in a fight last night, some guy came up and was hitting on Y/N while I was out on the phone with you, so she wanted to head out right after.”
Bucky was satisfied with his well-formulated response until his best friend spoke up again. “Ah, so this is about your feelings for her, right? You were jealous?”
Bucky froze. “Pshhh….uh, no. Definitely not. She was very obviously not interested in him so we left.”
“That’s not what I asked.” Bucky could hear the deadpan in Steve’s voice. “I don’t care whether she was interested in him or not, I care about how her talking to some handsome stranger made you feel.”
Bucky pinched the bridge of his nose. “Steven, I’m going to be honest with you and I do not want you to say a word of this to anyone, or else.”
Steve poorly hid a smile in his voice. “Okay, Bucket. Floor is yours.”
“First of all, he was not that handsome. Based off her reaction, he was probably a scumbag in a Carhartt jacket that has never seen a day of actual work, but that’s besides the point….Yes…. Seeing her talking to that guy, and talking to her about her ex made me feel…things, but that wasn’t all of it….” The next words came out as a mumble. “She put my hat on her head and her head on my shoulder when I drove her home….andiwisheditwasreal.”
Steve was full-blown laughing now, so much was going on in that statement. Since when did Bucky care about work clothes and people’s worthiness of them? At least he was being honest. “Sorry Buck, missed that last part. Care to repeat?”
“Oh you know exactly what I said.” He spat back.
“Okay, okay. So what are you gonna do about it then? You’ve still got three more weeks out there. From what I can see, you’ve got a few opti-“
“Nothing.” Bucky cut him off. “I’m going to do nothing. I can’t play into her charm anymore. I’m just going to stay away and put my head down and-“
“Bucky stop. Slow down.” Steve cut him off in return to stop the spiral. “Your solution to everything can’t be to ice it out until freezes and shatters. Let’s look at this for a second. You care for her, so why can’t you stay friends? You obviously get along well, and I’m not just saying this from a personal standpoint, I’m saying this from a business standpoint. She very evidently knows how to deal with people and looking at the books, her finances are exceptional considering it’s a relatively small farm operation.”
“Okay, first off, of course I can ice her out. I need to show who’s in charge and this has worked with other associates before. And second off, what are you seeing in her finances?” Bucky huffed.
“Buck, she could buy your house. Somehow she’s invested so well that she doesn’t need our business deal, but she took it anyway. Makes me wonder why. Someone doing something like that doesn’t deserve ice, maybe you should try a little sweetness. I mean, I know you think everyone’s a sucker for that tough exterior of yours.” Steve’s tone dripped with sarcasm. “But you know what they say: you catch more bees with honey…. However, that sting on your face shows you can catch a bee just by standing there, so I’m not sure how fair that analogy is.” Steve let out a hearty chuckle at his own joke as a scowl crawled onto Bucky’s face.
“Ha ha ha, very funny, but we’re doing this my way. I’ll figure it out. I just have to last three more weeks.”
Steve sighed and replied with evident disappointment and a hint of frustration in his voice. “Okay, whatever you say, you’re the boss. I’ll call you later with a new update, Bucket.”
Bucky rolled his eyes in response. “Ugh, why do I still tell you everything when you use it against me like this?”
“That’s platonic love, my friend. Someone’s gotta hold you accountable and know you won’t punch them in the face for it.” And with that, Steve hung up and left Bucky looking up at the clear, blue sky.
Although Steve’s words and accusations stuck in his head, Bucky decided he wanted to muscle through this deal on his own. All he really needed to do was stay away from you and put in the work, and that would make it easier, right? He would simply do what he came here to do, nothing more, nothing less. If only Bucky could hear Steve’s grumble “why does he even tell me about this stuff if he won’t even take my advice?” that was said after every phone call.
Tumblr media
You woke up to the first rooster crow on Monday morning. By the time you had gotten dressed and walked down the creaky stairs, you saw your breakfast plate made and sitting on the counter and a mug of coffee that had already cooled down to a more than drinkable temperature.
You peeked in the dishwasher to see a set of dishes had already been placed in there. Bucky must’ve already eaten and gone out for the day. He probably wanted to get a jump start on his work. At least he knew what he was doing.
The real reason he was up and going already that you hadn’t known? He couldn’t sleep. He tossed and turned all night thinking about what Steve had said and honestly, he couldn’t bring himself to look at you. Couldn’t bring himself to mess up more in your presence and be saved and comforted by your seemingly bottomless grace. The solution was to do the work in pensive silence, as far from you as possible, so he could mess up and fix it on his own without the thought of your kind, yet penetrating, gaze. He was getting too close for comfort. The only solution was to pull away.
This continued for the next three days. Wake up before you. Make breakfast. Get a jump start on chores. Mess up on chores (as you secretly watched from the tractor, or the hay loft). Fix the mistakes. Carry on with his head down. Come home. Make dinner. Trap himself in his room. Go to bed. Start again.
Some notable moments that you’d caught unbeknownst to him: Bucky’s galoshes getting stuck in the mud of the pig pen, followed by him having to step out of the still-stuck boots, continue to walk to pour the feed in the trough while losing both socks as well, then returning to dig out the boots. At least half a dozen goat head-butts while trying to grab the babies to take them to the separate feeding area. The mommas were not happy with Bucky’s insistence on taking their kids, and they showed him by knocking him repeatedly into the white-painted fences. Bucky responded with an oof and him rubbing the affected area, returning a glower to the seemingly now unbothered mothers. Bucky losing sheep, but not knowing how to command your dog to corral them, thus having to run and herd them himself, surprisingly more efficiently each time it happened, you might add.
You were proud of Bucky for his work ethic. If he had put half this effort into his business dealings, you could see how he rose to the top so quickly. He wasn’t the only one who did research on whom they were dealing with.
He was stubborn and wanted things right, but didn’t let a lack of perfection stop him from completing the tasks. However, at some point, it looked like he was beating himself up. Like he was self-punishing for something you couldn’t quite identify, so you called Curtis to help at the farm so you could figure it out. Come Thursday afternoon, you handed off your chores to him and went back to the house early in hopes of catching Bucky. You were half way through dinner when the front door opened, the mud-covered mob boss in well-fitting farm clothes crossing the threshold.
You looked him up and down, doing your best to hold in a laugh at the disheveled appearance. “Well howdy. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen you. Figured you’ve been working so hard, it’s my turn to help you out some.”
Bucky was taken aback by seeing you in the kitchen, not only had he purposely been avoiding you and planned to get in the house before you even considered dinner, but you just looked so relaxed. Something about that stoked an ember in him he’d tried hard to snuff out. You were wearing a t-shirt and your hair was pulled up off your shoulders, almost like any other day, but your features didn’t have their usual determined focus. They were at ease, which was in total juxtaposition with Bucky’s swirl of anxiousness rising in his gut.
Bucky looked at you with wide eyes and pointed over his shoulder with a thumb. “Um, I thought you were still out in the field. Saw the tractor turning the hay over.” He swallowed thickly.
You leaned to peek around him. “Ah, yes. That’s Curtis. Called him in today to help me finish up so you and I could talk about a few things. Go ahead and wash up. By the time you’re done, this should all be ready.”
All he could do was nod in response as he slowly made his way up the steps, mind racing with everything you could possibly say. Did you know how he felt? Did he do something wrong? Were you going to cut the deal? He could only hope the warm water would wash his worries away, along with the mud.
Tumblr media
Bucky came back down to a homey aroma that wrapped him in comfort. That much was consistent every time he saw you. Your existence provided him a blanket of relief, despite the way he knew he should still be holding onto anticipation for what you might say. You were sitting at the head of the table flanked by Curtis, the both of you reading though some papers.
“Hey, Bucket, just in time.” Curtis greeted him, as Bucky took the seat across from him at the table, flanking your other side. You all started to dig into the food as you set the papers down on the table for Bucky to read them. It was a headline that read: TURNing the Tables: The Road to an Empire.
“What is this?” He looked up from his plate and directly into your eyes for the first time in days.
“Well, we haven’t gotten to talk about this yet, but remember that guy who we ran away from at the bar? This is him.” Bucky’s eyebrows pinched together, he knew the look of disdain on your face made sense, but still felt like he was missing something.
Curtis cleared his throat after taking a sip of tea and spoke up. “Forgot you didn’t grow up with us. Allow me to explain.” He looked to your eyes and you nodded in approval of his continuance. “In school, I was a few years older than Y/N here. Back then, there were a bunch of farmers around town, each with their own little niche, and a lotta nice farm kids who were in our classes. Except Cole. He grew up a little awkward kid, but once he hit puberty, he became the cockiest thing in town. Didn’t even care to know those other kids anymore, just bullied them. It didn’t help that it was around the same time his parents started buying out all the other small farms here, turning their small dairy operation into a much larger-scale distributor. Little too big for their britches, if you ask me.” Curtis mumbled that last part as he rolled his eyes and shoveled another fork full of food into his mouth.
Bucky nodded in acknowledgement, but still harbored some confusion in how this all tied together. “So why was it crazy to run into him at the bar if he’s from around here? And what’s the deal with him making you so uncomfortable. Like, I get it, he’s a prick, but you were running out of there. You hardly budged for me, so there’s no way he can be that intimidating to you.”
Curtis’s eyes narrowed slightly and his brows furrowed at that statement, but he let it go for now. He swallowed down another bite of food and looked at you again. Your mouth was slightly agape, debating the best way to move forward. “I didn’t look like this in high school, or throughout any schooling for that matter, so he didn’t recognize me when we ran into each other at the bar. Frankly, I hardly recognized him. And come to think of it, he didn’t even ask my name Friday night, so that goes to show what a trash bag he really is. But this is a good thing, because I think we’d be in a way bigger mess if he did remember me. It’s a long story, and I think we’ll have to go back even farther.” You took a sip of your water before setting down your silverware and leaning forward on your elbows on the table.
“Like Curtis said, Cole didn’t get along with anyone, especially Jake. In school he’d constantly push him around, so Curtis would come to his defense, even though I probably could’ve taken Cole myself.” You let out a small airy chuckle and Curtis smiled back at you, shaking his head. “But anyway, after every time Cole started a fight and Curtis finished it, he’d look at me with this big, almost mischievous grin. So honestly, I’m glad I didn’t play into getting close to him by personally defending Jake.”
Bucky continued nodding along. You seemed so unproblematic. Why were you in the middle of this? “So he didn’t recognize you at the bar, and again, he’s from around here. What’s the big deal?”
You sighed, having to explain more small-town politics to Bucky, who very evidently didn’t understand the delicate nature of places outside the city. “He’s not really from around here anymore. His farm still is, but it’s one of many now. After school, he went to get some fancy business degree from who knows where. What I’m truly concerned about is what he said to me at the bar. He’s here to squash the one thing Curtis and I, and frankly this town, have left.” Curtis rubbed your shoulder reassuringly and you rubbed your eyes in frustration. Bucky felt that same pang in his lower stomach again, seeing how close you and Curtis were and how that dumb little milk man had you this upset. You looked at Curtis gratefully and continued.
“My mom’s brother and Curtis’s dad’s sister used to run this farm back when Cole still lived here. When they passed, they left it to us, but Curtis’s dad also left the shop, which is why I mostly run things around here. But the thing is, anyone who hasn’t been to town since back then, doesn’t know that. The last name tied to this farm doesn’t apply to either of us.” Oh, so you and Curtis were second cousins? Explains a lot. Bucky hated himself that all he could think was ‘one more man who’s close to you he can check off as not being a threat.’ He really needed to get himself in check. Once he pushed those thoughts back down is when everything finally clicked.
Cole was back in town. He had a history with you. He’s got a bad track record in general. He said he wanted to squash competition. You were that competition. He didn’t know you were that competition. You had no idea where to go from here.
Before Bucky could open his mouth for his next round of clarification questions, there was a knock on the door. The three of you were so enthralled in conversation that no one heard the wheels crunching through the gravel in the driveway. You exchanged glances with the men on either side of you. A random visitor out here wasn’t too out of the ordinary, considering how much the community depended on you, but the conversation topic had you on edge. It was for good reason, because as you opened the door, leaving the screen in place, you were met with a face that had started to haunt your dreams these past few days: Cole.
He was wearing that sickening smile again, looking down at you. “Hiya, Peach. It’s been a minute.” You crossed your arms and looked at the man standing on your porch, a plastic smile glued to your face.
Bucky and Curtis shuffled behind you. Curtis shoved the papers and articles at Bucky to take somewhere else so Cole wouldn’t see them, while he made his way to your shoulder, his large stature holding every intention to intimidate Cole.
“Ah yes, your guard dog Curtis, great to see ya, buddy.” Curtis gave a death glare of acknowledgement, stance unyielding.
“Sorry I didn’t recognize you at the bar, you’ve all changed so much, including your pal, Jakey. He’s the one who so kindly told me my family missed this farm while we were on the rise. As soon as mom and pop gave me the reins, I knew I had to stop over, didn’t realize you were the one running things now.” You did your best to keep your face level.
“So what can I help you with, Cole? Are you lost? Need directions on a map? I’m a whiz at that. Happy to print one out for you.”
If it was even possible, his troubling smirk became wider. “Aren’t you going to invite me in? I’d love to talk business. Maybe over dinner? Smells delicious.”
You scrunched your nose, keeping the fake smile on your face. “Unfortunately, it’s all gone. Maybe next time. How about you and me mosey over to the office. It’s been too long. I’ve got some mints in there. Maybe those can tide you over.”
“Too long, indeed.” He ignored the rest of your statement, but Bucky didn’t. He’d never heard you say something that rude before. Someone like Cole might have been none the wiser, but those were loaded words that he knew you said with intention. How could he blame you, though. The man in the fake work clothes had invited himself in unannounced. Not even Bucky did that to you. The same couldn’t be said for his actions with other associates, but one thing he knew was that you were deserving of all the respect in the world. Respect Cole was not giving you. Cole nodded to the two men and followed you down the hall, not bothering to take off his shoes and add them to the files of boots by the door. Another mark in Bucky’s mind. You closed the door you’d held open behind him after giving a wide-eyed look to your two confidants whose eyes followed the whole thing.
Tumblr media
Bucky scrambled to clean up the dinner plates and pack away the leftovers. It was smart of you to not offer Cole anything. He didn’t need any reason to stick around longer than you wanted him to. Bucky knew a thing or two about business dealings with enemies, and he was usually much cooler than this, but the fact he could tell you were freaking out, freaked him out.
He still hadn’t dealt with his emotions for you, and your earnestness not even half an hour ago had made it worse. So he did what he always does when he’s not sure and needs a wall to talk at: he called Steve.
Steve picked up in a surprisingly good mood. “Hey Buck, what can I do ya for.”
“I need to you gather everything you can on Cole Turner.” He frantically spat out. Steve grew serious to mirror his best friend’s tone. “And…” Bucky lowered his phone for a second and looked at Curtis. “What’s Jake’s last name.”
Curtis looked at him skeptically. “Jenson. Jacob Jensen.” Bucky nodded his head in thanks and lifted the phone back up to his ear.
“Did you get that?…Yeah, put our best guys on it. Ok, call me later tonight when you know. Doesn’t matter the time. Bye.”
Bucky lowered the phone and looked at Curtis who had just finished wiping down the counters. Curtis had his arms crossed and was leaned up against the kitchen island, opposite Bucky. “So you wanna tell me who exactly you are? Why you’ve got people who you can seemingly throw commands at for immediate attention? And why you care so much about this little farm that you’re only working at for a month?”
Bucky sighed and put his hands on the counter, pushing his body away from it, hinged at the hips, and hanging his head in between his arms. He stood up and quickly looked at Curtis straight in the eyes. “I think you know. I think you know the answers to all those questions, but I think you should also know, I care enough to be on your side.”
Curtis leaned in towards Bucky, his frame shadowing the mob boss’s in the evening light. For the first time in awhile, Bucky was intimidated. He knew how much Curtis cared for you, and he knew how hard he’d be pummeled if he messed up, whether Bucky used his combat training or not. He mustered up as much confidence as he could to rebuild his demeanor to face your Cousin. “You know I care, and I think all that matters is that I’m using my resources to make sure your cousin’s farm is okay and stays in her hands. You know I’m here to do business, but this is bigger than me and I see that now. I’m someone with power, and not unearned power like that prick in the other room. So I’m someone who uses that power in your best interest. That’s all you need to know right now.”
Curtis nodded in acceptance of Bucky’s answer. He could respect that logic, and the way Bucky held his cards close to his chest, because at the end of the day, at the core of Bucky’s motivations was your well-being. No matter how much he thought he could put a veil over it, Curtis saw through.
“Well, Bucky, I won’t doubt you then, but you better hold true and honest, for your own sake and for hers. And I hope to hear more of your other ‘business ventures’ later down the road, but for now, I think our girl needs us.” Bucky nodded along in agreement.
“I don’t think there’s much else I can do right now while I wait for that intel to get back. You got anything?”
Curtis grinned and gave a small shrug. “I can think of one thing. Go up in that top cabinet above the fridge. We’ve got a bottle of the good stuff. She’s gonna need it once we can get the slime ball to slide outta here.”
Bucky’s shoulder’s bounced with a small laugh as he pulled down the bottle. “Let’s get cracking then.”
Tumblr media
It was another half hour before Cole emerged from your office and looked cockily at the two men chatting in your kitchen. You followed closely behind, doing your best to subtly corral him out of the house.
“I hope you’ll consider my offer. Actually, I know you will. Over dinner next time.” He smirked back at you over his shoulder. You escorted him out the door as politely as you could, draining your last bit of energy. You closed and locked the front door, which rarely was so, and peeked through the window until he was gone.
You turned around to look at the two of them as your shoulders slumped. You dragged your feet over to the island where Curtis and Bucky were leaning leisurely, grateful Curtis knew exactly what you needed as he slid the filled shot glass toward you.
You grabbed it and threw it back, slamming it back down on the butcher block counter top as Curtis moved to refill it. “How many do I have to catch up on?”
“Only two.” Curtis replied as he slid the shot glass back over to you again.
“Let’s make it three.” You choked out after you attempted to swallow down the burn of the second shot.
“Bucket, can you please make us some water bottles? I’ve gotta get out of this house. We’re going for a walk.”
“Yeah, okay, Honey. Only on the condition that you put my boots on me for the walk. My hammies are sore from being your little chore boy.” He replied as he reached into the cabinet to grab the bottles.
He smiled to himself when he heard your giggle. He’d normally never complain that openly and ridiculously, but you gave him the reaction he was hoping for. Anything to make sure the life wasn’t totally sucked out of you by Cole.
“Your negotiations are no good here. You put your own boots on and take your own boots off unless you’re married. My house, my rules. But tell ya what, I’ll let you have another shot of this small-batch bourbon with me and Curty boi. That’s more than payment enough.” You winked at him as he handed you the water bottle. The three of you taking the last shot and heading out the door, making your way towards the back of the property.
Tumblr media
It was an easy walk through level fields, just long. The three of you fell into easy conversation about anything other than Cole, insisting you’d debrief them tomorrow, so the conversation mainly consisted of teasing Curtis about the new girl and her truck he had to fix last week. The comfortable silences otherwise were filled with the sound of the crickets chirping. You found comfort in the caress of the warm, humid breeze that blew through as you walked towards the hills where the old mines of the property resided.
Once you reached the entrance, you turned around and faced the two large men. “Buck, you’ve been working really hard this week, so I think it’s time I showed you what you’re working toward. Figured it would be a nice change of pace for us to take a look at this tunnel tonight, and we can start scheduling some time in for us to fix up the scaffolding and supports.”
Bucky nodded, looking at you with a grin on his face while Curtis clicked on his flashlight. “I’m honestly curious to see what’s going on in there. I don’t think we’ve ventured in since we were teenagers.” His voice echoed through the mouth of the mine.
You led the way, turning on your own flashlight, scanning the dirt walls and old, wooden supports. “Yeah, it’s been awhile, but I think you could work with this, right, Bucket? This tunnel specifically doesn’t have an outlet like the connecting network in some of the others, so it would be mostly storage. You could probably send some underlings out here to help you out.”
You both laughed as Bucky walked closer to the wall, examining one of the support beams. “Yeah, I mean, I own a construction company, so that shouldn’t be a worry at all.”
That caught Curtis’s attention as he stopped to give a side glance toward Bucky. You continued on ahead unfazed as Bucky kicked the wooden beam in front of him to test its integrity. It crumbled slightly at the toe of his boot. Underwhelmed with the scale of the break, the two men made a move to step forward when they heard a rumbling, followed by the beam Bucky had kicked crashing down in front of them. Pebbles shifted and fell out of the ceiling, followed by larger rocks and before they could blink, the tunnel buckled creating a wall of sand and stone between you and them.
All Bucky could hear was your muffled scream on the other end. I’m okay, just get me out of here. He was going into panic mode, but a plan still was racing though his brain as he made every attempt to mash it together into something coherent. Through the ringing in his ears he heard Curtis yell. “We have to call the police, the fire department, someone to get her out of there. She might not be injured now, but I can’t say the same if there’s a secondary collapse. We need to do something. Now.”
Bucky grabbed him by his collar. “No. No police. It’ll ruin everything.”
Curtis put his hands up in surrender. “Okay then, what do you suppose we do, big guy?”
Bucky paced back and forth, biting his thumbnail with worry. “Gimme a second. I’m figuring it out.” He stopped in his tracks. “Who all knows about the mines?”
“What? What does that ha-“
Bucky cut Curtis off. “Who. All. Knows?”
Curtis shook his head and shrugged. “I-I don’t know, not many people. Me and her, her college roommate, and Jake. That’s it, I think.”
Bucky rapidly reached into the pocket of his jeans and handed Curtis a card from his wallet. “This is my associate Sam. You’re going to call him and tell him those names. We’re gonna need all the help we can get.”
Curtis immediately pulled out his phone, trusting the judgement of his new friend. Bucky did the same, calling Steve. It was time to send backup to the farm. He could have his men out here tonight, and your friends by at least the morning, sending his private jet to retrieve them.
He needed you out of that tunnel like he needed to breathe, mostly because if he didn’t get you out of there within a day, you wouldn’t be able to.

Your regular noonday customer Tasha eyed your new stock boys and leaned over to ask you a question.
“That one is Robbie, and you should ask. He’s a sweet guy.”
You replied as if it were no big deal, making your decision at that moment. You turned your head and glanced at the tall blonde.
“That one is Steve, and he is single as a pringle.”
You smiled at her, ignoring the footsteps behind you as you closed the register.
“So now I’m single?”
You felt his hot breath on your neck and your nipples pebbled as he growled into your ear. Damn him.
“Steven. We’ve had this conversation. I can’t be in a relationship with someone who continually lies to me and does things behind my back.”
Steve looked down and his pants got tight at this view of your ass.
“Believe me Ambrosia. I’d love to do things behind your back. And I think you would too. If you would only let me…”
Steve’s broken voice almost broke you, but you took a deep breath and turned around. You gasped at the sight of his face, those lips, and the sense of his smell so close to you. You wanted him, but you couldn’t continue this way.
“Breathe, Baby.”
Your eyes fluttered shut at the heady feeling of lust surrounding you two and you considered relenting. You leaned toward him, wanting to just fall into his arms.
Steve silently cheered inside; you were beginning to break. You’d even shut him out on Valentine’s Day. A month and a half of never letting up the pressure was beginning to pay off.
Or so he thought.
You wouldn’t let Steve fuck you to shut you up. Not again. So you did just what he told you and breathed deeply, lifting your head.
Steve knew that glint in your eye.
“First, you seduced me without telling me that you are one of the most powerful mobsters in New York, then you bought my store without letting me know? You own me now? What else don’t I know about you?”
Steve ran his hand through his hair and backed up.
“You know all you need to know, Ambrosia. I love you.”
You stared hard at him, unrelenting. He continued.
“Listen, everything I do is to protect you. I…”
The bell rang above the door and you turned around to greet the customer. Steve turned to stare at the discounted Valentine’s candy. Then he got an idea.
He grabbed a bag and turned around to the sight of a tall man smiling down at you.
And you had the nerve to smile back at him!
He cleared his throat.
You looked over your shoulder at him. He glowered at you and stalked out.
“Stay here, Robbie. I need to handle some things.”
Tumblr media
When you closed the store that Saturday night, you sat on your couch thinking about your relationship. Ever since Christmas morning when you realized what Steve had done and you’d flipped your lid, he’d endured your frosty demeanor.
You felt trapped, and most of all, scared. But you didn’t express that like an adult, you just gave him the cold shoulder. Maybe he finally got the message and moved on.
You fell asleep, full of angst and worry at the situation and awakened at the knock on the door. When you opened it, you greeted a tired looking Steve Rogers with a bag of what smelled like Thai food.
“Can I come in?”
You nodded, stepped back, and walked back over to the couch as Steve entered your apartment and shut the door.
You opened your mouth to say something but Steve raised his hand.
“Just… hear me out, Ambrosia. Today I understood for the first time what you mean. All I’ve done is take from you.”
You shook your head and he raised his hand again.
“I fell in love with you almost the first time I came in here. So I kept coming back, and buying you gifts, and when I asked you out without telling you the truth I took away your choice about whether to date a guy like me. And that was wrong.”
Your heart broke a little bit as he spoke. Steve looked like his heart was breaking too.
“When I saw how you struggle to pay your rent, I bought the mortgage without telling you, and that was wrong. When I saw that guy flirting with you, after I thought briefly about taking his life, I realize that I took your chance for a normal life.”
Your heart started beating faster as you realized what this was.
“Steve…”
“Please let me finish.”
Steve took a deep breath and walked over to the table.
“I’m here to give you some things. Things that you absolutely cannot give back. First, food.”
Your stomach was growling. Steve knew you so well. When you were upset, you didn’t push yourself to eat.
You came and sat down to a heaping plate of food. Steve sat across from you.
“Next comes the story of me and…this thing of ours.”
Steve nodded at your plate because you stopped mid-chew and your eyes got wide.
“You stop eating, I stop talking.”
Steve took a bite and watched you eat, sadness and love in his eyes.
“It started when we were kids. Bucky and I ran the streets of Brooklyn and fell in with this little smartass punk, Brock Rumlow. He was just a kid then. A kid who had a plan to make us the most feared mobsters in the city. He introduced us to Sam.”
You were astonished that Steve was opening up and at the name Rumlow. Everyone knew they were mortal enemies. You made sure to eat so you could hear how everything got to this point.
“I was a fucking runt,” Steve laughed and shook his head. “But they called me Cap ‘cause I was always the first one into a fight…”
An hour and a half later, you were on the couch, enraptured.
“.... and now, Bucky is working his way back to health, getting used to a new way of life. Sam is truly still caught in the middle. And me… well, I have fucked up the one love of my life.”
“Steve… “
He stood up and went back over to the table. He produced a manilla envelope. When it was in your hands, he nodded and you opened it. You dropped it on your lap, hand over your mouth when you saw the contents.
“It’s the deed to your store. I wasn’t trying to own you, or to control you, Ambrosia. I was only trying to protect you. From my life. But I realize now that you need full disclosure. And choice.”
He took you in looking up at him like that.
“God, I love you. You are the woman of my dreams, tough, smart, beautiful. But I want you to have free will.”
“What do you mean?”
Steve stood up and walked to the door. You followed.
“I did some digging today. The only people that know about us are you, me, Bucky, Sam, and Robbie. I thought I was protecting you, but I was just putting you in a cage. This was my escape from that world.”
Steve looked around the small apartment that was your home.
“But I can’t escape. Not just yet. And you’ll be okay if I never come here again.”
Your heart dropped as he let that sink in.
“You are right. If we are to be together, you would have to come into my world. And I don’t know if you are ready for that yet, Ambrosia.”
You were spiraling as Steve opened the door and turned around, leaning on the door frame.
“One more thing.”
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a pink box.
“Happy Belated Valentine’s Day.”
You walked close to him to take the box, staring down at it in his hands. You couldn’t look at him. But he solved that problem by tipping your head up by your chin.
Steve kissed you sweetly, but his tongue swept into your mouth, savoring you as if for the last time. He pulled away, and then leaned back in for another peck.
He stood up, whispered a gruff, “Goodbye, Ambrosia,” and then disappeared out of your life.
You blinked back your flow of tears and looked down at the box in your hands. You opened it, and as you tipped the box, numerous white candies spilled out onto the floor.
You bent down to pick them up.
They all read, I WONDER.
Tumblr media
You sat on your couch, the sugary sweets melting with the warmth of your hand. You ran the gamut of emotions: sadness, fear, then anger and frustration.
You thought you’d made the correct decision, but now you realized you had not.
Tumblr media
Around one am, Steve was sitting in the VIP of Sam’s club, SamWells, being enveloped by the beat of the music. He couldn’t be alone right now, or he’d either go running back to your place or slip into oblivion up at his.
He didn’t need to think anymore.
Sam had been busting his balls all night, at his sour look, at the fact that he’d been nursing one drink for two hours, anything to get a rise out of him. Steve just stayed silent and sipped his drink, the ice melting slowly.
Suddenly, Sam perked up.
“I think that hottie over there wants you buddy, need to check her out.”
Steve snorted and finally ordered another drink, not looking in the direction Sam indicated.
“Too soon, Sam. I’m not in the mood.”
Sam’s eyes were focused behind Steve.
“I don’t know, Cap. This one seems pretty dope. I think she’s just your type.”
“Sam, I…”
You walked around the booth as Robbie let you into the VIP area. Steve’s mouth dropped open and took you in from head to toe. You were wearing a form fitting black dress and heels. Steve couldn’t stop looking. Then Sam whistled.
“Looking good, Ambrosia!”
Sam stood up and gave you a hug, then pulled back to admire you. Steve did too. You looked amazing.
You tugged at the dress, a little uncomfortable.
“I think it’s too tight. It was at the back of my closet. I wore it once, 10 pounds ago…”
“No. No, no. I think it fits just right. Juuust right. And those 10 pounds seem to be in just the right places.”
Sam twirled you and Steve stood up just as you turned to face him. You laughed and looked up at him, breathless.
He seemed a little jealous. It was hot.
“Wanna continue our conversation, Steve?”
Steve stared down at you, his body feeling one way, wanting to bend you over the booth, but mind wary of everything.
Sam cleared his throat as Steve scanned the club.
“I’ve got something to do over there.”
Neither of you acknowledged his departure, but Steve waved his arm to the booth and you slid into the leather bound seat that smelled like the two friend’s cologne.
“What are you doing here?”
Steve asked the question tersely, still checking the club to see who was there.
“This is dangerous, coming around here like this.”
You scooted closer to him, and eyed him up and down. He had changed into a multicolored polo and wore sunglasses, even though he was inside a club at night. His biceps popped with every move and the tense look on his face made you want to relax him. Hard.
You reached up and took his sunglasses off, glad to be able to look him in the eye.
“That’s funny. I feel super safe right now.”
You put your hand on his thigh, and his muscles tensed.
“Ambrosia. This is nothing to play with.”
Steve looked at you, his eyes falling to your cleavage and licked his lips.
Your hand went up further, and touched the tip of his dick through his pants. He was getting hard.
“Believe me Steve. I would love to play with things, and I think you would too, if you would only let me…”
You started stroking him outside of his pants and he drew in a harsh breath.
“Breathe, Baby.”
Steve did, then he took your hand from his cock and placed both of yours in your lap and held them there.
“What exactly are you here for, Ambrosia?”
You sat back, serious now.
“I’m here for you, Steve. I thought long and hard after you left. I love you.”
“Baby, I…”
“My turn.”
You shook your head and smiled as Steve looked down and started stroking your hand with his thumbs.
“I was thinking that we’re both being a little extra. I didn’t have to be so dramatic after Christmas. And I love that you told me your story, but you didn’t have to. You didn’t have to buy the store, and you certainly didn’t have to give me the deed. And I hate that you have to wonder…”
Steve opened and closed his mouth, letting you continue.
“I know. You are wondering what it would be like if I embraced all of you. And I think I’m ready to.”
Steve’s head snapped up and his eyes were wild.
“You can’t think, Ambrosia. You must know. Because there is no going back. I, and my crew will stop at nothing to protect you. You would be part of the family and that means a blood oath. If you want to love me, you gotta accept me. And the things I do. I’m trying to give you an out.”
You stared at Steve for a long time.
“I don’t want an out. I want you.”
“Are you sure?”
“Surer than sure.”
You smiled as you leaned in for a kiss. Steve stared at you hesitant, scared of what this would mean. When you cocked your head at him and smiled is when he decided.
Steve grabbed you by the back of the neck and pulled you to him, answering your smile with a passionate press of his mouth on yours. He pulled back, and reached for your hips, pulling you onto his leg.
You put your arms around his neck as you peppered his face and head with kisses as Steve felt you up and sucked hickeys onto your neck and cleavage. His hand was at the hem of your dress and moving north as he spoke into your skin.
“…Coming in here dressed like this. Gonna be the death of me. I gotta have you, it’s been too long.”
“Oh.” You breathed into his hair. “I came to get fucked tonight.”
“Holy fuck.”
Steve slapped your thighs.
“Then why are these legs still closed?”
You opened your legs and let his hand into the damp warmth of your inner thighs. He grabbed you at your apex so that you were sitting on his leg and his fingers, his thumb brushing your naked, weeping slit and delving into you. He looked up into your half closed eyes.
“Gotdamn, Ambrosia. You weren’t lying. Want me to fuck you right here?”
Your hand was at the hair on the back of his head now, pulling as he swirled his thumb around your plucky clit. You leaned your head down on his shoulder and whimpered, not answering his question.
Steve continued his assault on your needy pussy until he pulled a shaky, whimpering orgasm from you. It was not enough.
“It’s time you came up to my place.”
You stood up, a little shaky and more so as Steve made you suck his thumb.
“I’d love to see it.”
Steve didn’t say that he wanted more than just for you to see it. He led you over to a wall at the far end of the club, pulling out a remote. Part of the wall slid open to reveal an elevator door which he ushered you into.
“Each of us, Sam, Bucky, and I have our own elevators that go directly to our places. Totally private.”
“Interesting.”
You were on the opposite wall from him as he watched you possessively with his hand in his pocket. The ride seemed to slow down.
“Touch yourself.”
“Why?”
“Because if I touch you, I will fuck you in this elevator and I’m trying to make it to my bed.”
There was a long pause as you each listened to each other breathing.
“And you shouldn’t be untouched, Ambrosia.”
You put your hands in your hair and moved them down around your neck, trailing your cleavage.
Steve leaned back against the wall, his eyes blue fire as your hands roamed your own body and the places he wanted to be. He palmed himself over his pants and you whimpered.
“Don’t worry. You’re gonna get this dick.”
You started pulling your nipples through the material of your dress and Steve opened his mouth to lick his lips.
“They look so fucking big and beautiful. I’m gonna cum all over them.”
You were reaching for the hem of your dress when the doors opened. Steve came for you and you jumped up onto him, his hands holding you up by your ass as he propelled you through a dark and richly appointed space until your back hit a door.
“I’ll give you a proper tour when we come up for air.”
You chuckled.
“So I’ll never get a tour?”
Steve laughed too.
“You may be right.”
He reached for the knob and soon you were on your back on the softest king sized bed you’d ever experienced.
Steve was tearing off his clothes as you pulled your dress over your head. Steve beat you to your heels, unbuckling them and kissing your feet up to your calves. He pushed your legs apart so that he could see you fully. His hand traced your lips and he smiled.
“My sweet petals. Long time no see.”
“Are you… are you talking to my pussy?”
You huffed, indignant.
“I’m talking to MY pussy. Private conversation. I guess I’ll just have to whisper.”
Steve glided up your apex and made out with your cunt like it was going out of style. He suckled your clit gently at first, then with more pressure as he came up and inserted two fingers inside you.
“Still so so tight…”
He scissored his fingers as he pulled another orgasm from you, stroking his cock as your desperate cries reached his ears.
“Gotta get you ready for me.”
He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand as he kneeled up and stroked his cock, lining it up at your soaked opening.
You keened as he pushed his thick tip inside you, your wetness making the most deliciously pornographic sounds, along with his outright moans for you as you squeezed him.
Your mouth opened at the sting of his size, but relished the full feeling. You loved being full of Steve Rogers
“Ambrosia, Ambrosia, Ambrosia….shittttt.”
When he started moving, the slap, slick, slap, slick sound made his eyes roll back.
“Who got you so wet, Ambrosia? So wet and so tight. Tell me.”
You whimpered your way through your explanation as he started fucking you harder.
“Hnnnnnhhhh. You, Steve. Always you. Only you.”
You were grabbing your own bouncing breasts absentmindedly and it made Steve pulse inside you.
“Fuck yes, show me those tits, point them at me because I’m… uggghhh.”
Steve sped up again. He was watching your erect nipples and areola bounce as you held them up for him to witness the bounteous beauty of them being knocked up to your face by his thrusts.
“So fucking beautiful. I’m gonna….Fucckkkkkkk!”
Steve thought he would black out at the image you just presented him. But he just fucked you harder, faster, better.
“Cum on me cum in my mouth cum on my tits Stevie….”
“Oh my goddddd.”
Steve pulled out and shot pearlescent white cum on your chest and in your mouth. You grabbed his softening dick and he rolled over on his back as you cleaned him up, sucking him dry.
“That little hot mouth of yours, Ambrosia. Fuck.”
You smiled and started stroking him, your breasts still covered in cum. As he watched you, you watched his cock come back to life.
“Holy Shit, Ambrosia.”
Steve grabbed you and turned around, pressing your head into the bed so that you gave him the arch he was looking for. He slid into you from behind, back into heaven.
“You make me feel like I could do this all fucking night, Ambrosia…fuck.”
Steve grabbed your arm and twisted it behind your back as he pounded you and you begged him.
“Please please please cum inside me Steve, give it to me.”
Steve grunted.
“You saying you want my baby inside you?”
You moaned.
“It already is, Daddy.”
Steve pulled you up by your hair. He stopped because he didn’t quite hear what you’d said.”
“What did you say?”
“I said. I already have your baby inside me, Daddy.”
Steve pulled out of you and then held your face in his hands.
“How?”
You laughed at him.
“What do you mean, how?”
“I mean, when?”
“Probably Christmas. The last time we…I took a test two weeks ago. I’m probably about six weeks along.”
“Were you going to tell me?”
Steve sat back on his haunches, his erection fading.
“I’m telling you now. Just like you told me over six months after you started pursuing me about your situation.”
You reached for his head and made him look you in the eye.
“I thought I’d made the right choice, to cut ties and… well, when you left me, left us tonight I realized what I truly wanted. I want you. And I want this baby. I choose you to be the father of my child.”
You kissed Steve and he took you down to the bed.
“Do you want this?”
Fear bloomed inside you as Steve’s hand slid down your torso to your belly. He looked back up at you, eyes shining.
“Yes! Please…please have my baby Ambrosia. I promise I’ll never let anyone hurt you. Including me.”
“Okay.”
Steve kissed your belly and then pulled you under him to kiss your lips as you wrapped your legs around him and reached between you to stroke him back to life.
“Fuck, mama. What are you doing to me?”
Steve rutted into your hand.
“You were about to blow my back out Daddy. Get to it.”
You spit into your hand to lubricate him better and you looked like a vixen as he fell under your spell.
“Ugh! So nasty...”
You twisted so that you were again as up underneath him and wiggled your ass against his now hard length again.
You lifted your hips and Steve slid inside you, your warm wetness clenching his wide girth again.
“Fuckkkk, Stevie.”
The way you whimpered for him made Steve pushed your head back down. He started delivering the back shots immaculately, slowly, deep and hard, watched your cream froth around him, the vision of where you two were connecting making him even harder.
Then, he sped up and spilled everything inside you as you screamed for it, cumming around him and milking him for all that he was worth.
When you opened your eyes, Steve was smiling at you.
“What?”
“I’m just so happy.”
“Happy that I came here, or happy that we came. Or happy about little Stevie?”
He chuckled, “Little Stevie Hunh?”
He kissed you again.
“All three.”
Steve stood up and grabbed your hand.
He grabbed your neck and kissed you until you were breathless.
“Sounds like a plan, Mr. Rogers.”
Steve smiled at you and refrained from calling you Mrs. Rogers in return.
That was a title for another day.

Red
Very dark Steve! Mob Steve! Non con! Reader and Steve have a child. Angst!! Lots of grammar and spelling mistakes I’ll edit in the morning or never who knows🤷🏻‍♀️❤️
Tumblr media
Red. the pain, the hurt, the passion, the love, everything was red. He was toxic, he was the obsessive. And you were his feen, his drug, his obsession , his love. But the days blurred, the lines no longer were standing, they had fallen. The fights, the late nights, the guessing and questions that went unanswered by him. It was a house on fire, it was red.
There was no time in the day to plan, with his anger, and yours. It was spontaneous, the fight had started because of steves affairs. The lying, the cheating, he ruined you, tore down all walls, made you just as obsessed with him as he was with you. Just to leave you in the dust, to cheat. To add gasoline to the fire that was you, or what was left of you anyhow.
Peggy was a glossy, classy woman with the perfect bubble of power and wittiness. She was everything you weren’t. You were messy, hazed with trouble, a woman gone mad by a man who drove her there. You were his frankenstein, you were old pieces of yourself glued back together again. The young, innocent, naive, funny, charming, and free girl was now chained to the scars he left.
You ran out of the house in the early morning, he came home late yet again. You had stayed up waiting for him, going to confront him in his act. Thats exactly what you did, but the end was not what you pictured. You hopped that he would hold you, say you were wrong, make love to you like in the beginning.
“Are you cheating on me?’ you asked quietly, you sat on the bed. You couldnt took at him.
“I dont want to have this conversation with you, it’ll only hurt you” steve spoke. That was all the answers you needed. You started to yell, scream, through insult after insult.
“I knew it! You’re scerwing peggy! Huh you’re fucking your secretary!” you yelled in his face crying. He rolled his eyes at you and shoved you to the side going to the bathroom to get ready for bed.
“Im tried of this steve” you sobbed walking to the closet grabbing any bag in sight packing up everything.
Once steve heard you say that so defeated he knew that you were serious about leaving him. You and him had lots a fights because of his actions but everytime he kissed it better. He drew back in promising his love and that it will never happen again. But it always does. Steve now had his suite jacket off, his selves rolled up, strands of his hair in hs face,
“You’re not leaving me” he stated
“Watch me” you said back in anger, masking the sadness.
“y/n i own you, you’re mine! You cant leave me baby” he said getting angry.
“You cheated steve! Again. I-i cant do this i cant sit here and wait for you to love me again. We are not the people we were when we first started dating. I cant and wont be the drunk housewife waiting for her husband whose never gonna come back because his mistress.” you were out of breath from crying and talking so fast while packing.
Steve stepped closer “baby come on its me! Its us! We always get through stuff like this!” he tried to manipulate you with his soft words but this time it wouldn’t work. the naive girl you used died, not even a ghost left of her
“We wouldnt have to “get through this stuff” if you didnt cheat and fuck other women.” you held up air qoutes while talking.
“I love you” steve pulled you in near, kissing the top of your head. You sobbed in his chest, hurt, angry, betrayed. The three year relationship was now smoke, the fire was all burnt out. The engagement ring heavy on your finger, it was a line of whispered lies and i love yous.
Steve drew you to the bed, kissing his way up your neck. His hands sliding down your frame gripping your hips. His false hope whispered in your ear and apologies that didnt have any meaning stuck to you, like a cigarette burn. He took off your clothes and gently laid you on the bed. ‘When was the last time he was gentle with me?’ you thought to yourself as he kissed and licked at you lower lips.
“Say something baby, tell me you wont leave me, that you love me” he begged like he was the victim. You stayed silent, numb.
“prettybaby i love you. Say it back! I need you! I cant live with out you!” both of you now naked on the bed. he pushed himself into your entrance, all you could do was cry.
Steve begged and whined for you back but little did he know the car was running outside waiting to escape him and this burning house.
Steve fell asleep hugging you, his head resting on your tummy his arm wrapped around you. You ran your fingers through his hair, soaking up what was left of the man you used to know, he was burned alive, gone. You slowly pushed him off of you and got dressed, grabbing the bags on clothes and bathroom care you walked out. You looked around the house as you left, the nicknacs and photos of you and steve. The nursery that sat empty. Steve promised children but then came peggy. You kissed your engagement ring and then placed it on the entry table by steves keys.
Getting in the car and speeding off in to what was left of the mess steve made of you.
Tumblr media
One year later-
A wail of a new born was calling out to you in the dead of the night. You never got frustrated being a single mother, reminding yourself when you caught yourself being negative that you could still be with steve. Penny was three months old and her blonde curly hair was sticking in every which way. It made you giggle.
“Hi! Mommys here its okay penny girl” you picked her up rocked her in your arms.
She might be steve daughter but you never let her know what pain she was created from, you would never let her end up like steve nor you.
“Mama loves you” you said as she closed her big eyes again just needing comfort from her mom to make her feel better. Steve didnt know that the night that the two of you had sex before you left was the cause of a beautiful little girl. He had tried to call, and text you put after smaing you phone and leaving to state of New York for Washington you knew he wouldnt find you.
You lived in a little white house with a garden in a small town tucked away from the crazy and hurt.
You sat in the rocking chair in pennys room rocking her, your tiredness was catching up to you. Just as your eyes started to close he spoke from the depths of the darkness that was the closet.
“Oh prettybaby you are such a good little mommy, just like i knew you would be” he walked closer.
You screamed. Getting up with penny in your arms backing away from him trying stumble to the door backwards,
“Get out. Steve get out! I-i cant-” you sobbed your hold on penny grew tighter.
“Baby its okay, i wont hurt you. y/n im so proud of you, look at the life you built for our little girl, now i am mad you didnt tell me you were pregnant. But baby she is gorgeous. Now i need you to decide either you come home or we can live out here. Ya know i kinda love it here. Good thinking babe this is great place to rise kids”
You sobbed harder.
“How did you find us” you asked crying, so scared.
“Oh baby dont be naive, i will always find you”
“You cant be in our life, your toxic and i wont rase my daughter in the life we used to have. She wont end up like us! You cant be here! You ruined me!’ you sobbed and hyperventilated. He slowly walked closer like approaching an injured animal
“Baby i know i know, i was wrong and mean and cruel to you. I was blind i thought you would always be there for me. I took you for granted. Shes gone y/n, i got rid of peggy, shes taking a long nap and i aint ever gonna hurt you like that again. I need you baby…..and i need to be in my daughters life. I cant live without you nor am i gonna be able to leave her all alone now too” he explained
“I wanna have a good life, nothing like the one we used to have. You scare me steve and you’ve hurt me” you said looking at little penny who had a frown on hef face, she could read the distress from her mother.
“y/n look at me!” steve grabbed your face in his hands and made you look at him. “I will make it up to you i promise. I will spend the rest of my life making it up to you baby. I cant live without you” you shock your head no
“Its okay i get it y/n we need time, but im not going anywhere” steve spoke again.
“Come on lets put penny girl back in ger crib and go to bed” steve guided you to the crib and put penny down. She was right back to being cozy and sleepy. Steve pulled you in a hug while you sobbed into his chest, he was sliding his hand over your hair while shushing you.
“Come one lets go to sleep.” steve took your hand in his and leaded you back to your room. You laid down still crying, steve undressed himself down to his boxers and then joined you. He spooned you.
“I’ve missed you so much baby” was the last thing you heard before falling into slumber because you had cried yourself to sleep in his arms.
The house was burnt but in its ashes something new rose.
Authors note; i know some people will not understand why she didnt fight more, and the reason why was because she was in shock. It been and year and he shows up and shes like oh crap he found me and our now daughter. She is really scared of him and numb. Also steve is a mob boss by the way.

Pretty Little Thing Part 1
18+ Minors dni
Mob!Bucky x f reader, Rumlow x reader (forced marriage)  A/N: This is going to be in parts because it was getting way too long for a one shot. Felt like writing some protective Mob Bucky because he is an absolute treasure. Rumlow is a piece of shit. Please like, comment and reblog! <3
Warnings: ANGST, forced marriage, swearing, abusive marriage
Word count: 1.8k
Bucky reluctantly got in the SUV after Steve nagged him for 2 hours about the importance of maintaining civil relationships with business partners and rivals.
“You know what they say punk, keep your friends close and your enemies closer”
Bucky groaned, adjusting the gun in his holster wondering how he let Steve convince him to meet with Brock Rumlow again.
He had zero interest in having any business dealings with Rumlow; he had agreed to a meeting to maintain an air of peace. Though they were both part of the same world, Bucky had some morals.
As they neared the residence, something was different this time. Bucky frowned, wondering why the mansion they were pulling up to looked so…homely. A trail of flower bushes lined the gravel road to the entrance. A large garden swing sat on the lawn. Rumlow didn’t seem like the type to sit outside on a sunny day to lounge on a garden swing. Not unless someone half naked was on it. The large balcony that was typically occupied with the women Rumlow was entertaining that week was empty. Instead 2 guards that had previously never been seen had taken up residence at the main door.
“He’s up to something, this man didn’t suddenly turn into Mr. Rogers” Steve shook his head, doing a quick pat down of his weapons before exiting the vehicle.
The inside was no better; a giant bouquet of flowers sat in an ornate vase beside the stair case. The curtains had been opened, allowing natural light to pour through the living room. A number of family photos had been placed above the fireplace, replacing a previous cigar collection.
“Gentleman!” Rumlow descended the stairs, flashing them an unnaturally bright smile.
Bucky nodded, his stoic face unchanged. “I see you’ve made some changes”
“All this,” Rumlow gestured around him, “is for my beautiful new wife”
Steve hoped Rumlow didn’t hear him choke though Bucky definitely did, struggling to hide his smirk.
“Didn’t think you’d be one to settle down” Bucky said coolly, wondering which woman of the week he had convinced to marry him.
“You would too Barnes, if you got lucky enough to find a woman like mine. Let me introduce you!”
Before Bucky could protest (though secretly curious to know who would agree to marry such a creature), Rumlow called for you.
“Y/n, sweetheart, come down, meet my business partners!” “We’re not bu-”
Bucky immediately stopped upon seeing you descend the stairs. That wasn’t who he was expecting.
You quietly padded down the stairs in a simple white sun dress that stopped just above your knees, the soft material flowing between your legs with each step. Your hair cascaded down, softly bouncing as you approached them. As you neared, Bucky noticed the finer details that just added to your beauty. The small beauty marks on your skin that made you unique, the curve of your jaw, the way you nervously bit you bottom lip, the soft light color you had painted on your toes. Fuck you were angelic.
You stood quietly by Rumlows side, nearly hiding behind him, glancing at the two very handsome men that visited your home. If you’d even call it a home.
“She’s a pretty little thing isn’t she?”
Bucky and Steve stood in stunned silence, nodding after a moment. Rumlow smirked, getting the exact reaction he wanted.
“Barnes, Rogers, this is y/n, my sweet wife” Rumlow firmly gripped your waist, pulling you forward while placing a possessive kiss on your neck, his lips lingering on your skin for longer than necessary. You squirmed slightly, immediately stopping when you felt his fingers dig into your skin.
“Pleasure to meet you y/n” The handsome blonde gave you a soft smile, extending his hand. You hesitated before taking his hand; his hold felt firm, safe.
“Y/n, this is James Barnes and Steve Rogers, they came to discuss some of our business trades”
You smiled softly, nodding keeping your gaze down. You fidgeted with the large diamond ring that sat on your finger, the heavy rock a harsh contrast to your simple appearance.
“Gentleman follow me, we can discuss everything in the office. Y/n darling, prepare us some drinks please”
The office looked the same as the last time Bucky had been there; a large solid wood desk with simple arm chairs surrounding it and a large couch off to the side. Everything was the same except for one stark difference; a large wedding portrait hung on the wall behind Rumlow’s desk. He looked proud, as if he had captured the prey he prowled after, his arm draped possessively around you waist. You were in a plain white silk wedding dress, both your hands clasped around a bouquet of blood red roses. You’re lips were curved up in a small smile but your eyes looked lost, devoid of happiness.
“Take a seat, y/n please” Rumlow gestured for you to pour them their drinks while they sat. Another change; there were no longer maids or butlers in the house. There were security guards that walked the perimeter and few in the halls but the many women that previously waited on Rumlow hand and foot were nowhere to be seen.
“I don’t see any of your other….assistants?” Steve wasn’t sure how to refer to the lack of help. He knew for a fact Rumlow had them around for more than just cleaning the house.
“Ah, no need for them when I have this angel here. Got rid of them all after we got married”
He grinned at you, pawing at your waist as you dropped a few ice cubes into the crystal glasses. Your body tensed under his touch, quickly pouring the whisky so you could leave the room. Your nervous movements caused a splash of the dark liquid to spill onto Bucky’s shirt.
“Oh my God, I’m so sorry Mr. Barnes” You looked up wide eyed, frantically grabbing a cloth to dry off the spill. Your hands trembled as you quickly dabbed his chest, feeling the hard muscle under tense.
“It’s okay doll” The name rolled off his tongue with such ease before Bucky could catch himself.  He took the napkin from your hand and set it on the table, giving you a soft smile. His eyes were a stunning piercing blue and you felt yourself get lost in them for a moment, collecting yourself when you heard a cough from your husband.
“That’ll be all y/n. Sorry gentleman, she’s still learning” Rumlow gave you a nod, smiling, however his voice and eyes were cold as they bore into you. You nodded, quickly retreating to your room before they could see the tears fall.
Steve shifted uncomfortably, while Bucky’s jaw clenched.
“Learning?” Bucky’s voice was cold. He already had no interest to be here but seeing the way you were treated angered him more.
“Yes Barnes, learning” Rumlow’s was voice equally cold, his hospitable demeanour slowly crumbling seeing the way you looked at Bucky.
“And how did she agree to this marriage in the first place?” Bucky sat back in his chair, genuinely curious to know how you ended up in his hellhole.
“Truthfully, that’s none of your business Barnes”
“We can talk about this first Brock” Steve said lowly, his hand gripping the arm of the chair to keep from punching the man’s jaw out of place.
“I don’t have to explain anything to you Barnes, or you Rogers, you came here to talk business,” Rumlow glared at the men, realizing the conversation would not move forward unless they got their answer. “But since you seem so keen, it was for her benefit”
“Benefit?”
“Her family owed me a large sum of money they couldn’t repay. Millions. I spared them in exchange for her”
Bucky felt sick, anger beginning to cloud his judgement. He should have known you would have been forced into this arrangement against your will. Steve sensed his friends change in mood, tapping his knee, signalling for him to cool down.
“So you forced her to be your wife?”
“Hardly”, Rumlow replied coolly, sipping his whiskey. “She agreed to the marriage in exchange for her family’s life”
“She’s a person Rumlow, you don’t trade lives for your benefit. She’s had to sacrifice her whole life for her own family, what the hell have you given her in exchange for it!?” Steve felt his own composure beginning to falter.
“ I’ve made plenty of sacrifices for her!” Disgust dripped from his voice when he mentioned you. “Do you see any women walking around this fucking place? Not one maid, no whores, all of them gone for her. I’ve remodelled the house according to her likings; I have not touched her once until she agrees. She is getting everything according to her needs, the least she can do is learn to pour a glass of whiskey”
Rumlow’s chest was heaving his frustrations grew. He knew your family would have paid the money off eventually but he wanted you. The pretty, sweet, angelic looking thing that sat on the swing in front of your family’s home, nose tucked in a book. So he made an offer. All debt’s cleared in an exchange of marriage. You protested, so he made another offer. He would change, become a better man. No more women, he would change his home to resemble your own. He wouldn’t lay a finger on you until you consented.
“You’re proud of not touching someone who doesn’t want to be with you in the first place?” Bucky scoffed, his hand itching to pull the gun from his holster.
It had been 6 months since the wedding and his patience was growing thin. The marriage had never been consummated and Rumlow was only willing to play his part for so long. He’d get what he wanted if you were not going to give it to him willingly.
“I’ve had to keep it in my pants for 6 months Barnes, I think I’ve been pretty generous, don’t you think?” Rumlow smirked, enjoying the reaction he was getting out of Bucky.
The floor screeched as Bucky stood out of his chair, heading straight for the door. A minute longer and a bullet would have found its way between Rumlow’s eyes. Steve followed without a word, as Rumlow sat back in his chair finishing off his whiskey.
In the car, Steve glanced at Bucky, shaking his head, knowing where his friends head was at.
“Be careful Buck”
“About?”
“I saw how you looked at her. Called her doll right in front of that piece of shit, God knows what he’s going to do to her now”
Bucky groaned, closing his eyes as you clouded his thoughts. Your bare feet softly padding down the stairs, your hair slightly tousled. Your soft y/e/c eyes that pleaded for forgiveness. The tear that slipped and rolled down your cheek. He noticed.

White Noise
Tumblr media
mob!husband!steve rogers x plus-size!wife reader
summary: when a deal goes wrong Steves cunning nose sniffs even the most hidden ones, this time however, something is telling him it’s more than that. A lot more. Crooked criminals aren’t just stealing what’s his, there’s stealing what he belongs to.
When Steve finds out someone’s kidnapped you, he will stop at nothing, not even the traditions written in blood, to find you.
warnings: mafia talk, blood, gore, violence, harsh language, misogyny
part two>>>
Tumblr media
The death, it clung to him. Weighs him down like an anchor, follows him like a slimy red shadow. The rings he adorns on his index, thumb, pinkie,  insignia’s to honour and loyalty, they’re immune to it. They fling back the blood and morality from him. Every pressed jewel to his bruised fingers was another family massacred, another territory taken as his. Steve was nothing but relentless in his destruction, in his work. He took joy in it. The traditions, the meetings, the birch wood office table he fucks you on.
It’s why he’s gotten comfortable, the tension in his shoulder refracted a little, his hand gliding over signed deals like silk. His enemies knew it too, they gleamed in the dark shadows they’ve been cornered into, they waited for Steve to crack his stoic boulder of a kingdom himself because they knew they wouldn’t be able to do it themselves.
The Maserati marked against the Richerson driveway was still warmed by its engine, and yet Steve was already wishing to be with you, to be between the softness of your thighs. Rubbing elbows with the rest of the mafia that ruled New York was a requirement though, so Steve pushed down his insatiable need for you in an effort to keep his name.
Richerson's was a sizeable family, having been in the business as long as the Grant family had, Steve felt it homage to rekindle some old flames.
Sitting in the chair, his heirloom cufflinks clanking with its side, his wide torso bursting through the chair, his thighs squared out, one crossed over another where he rested his large palms across them.
Richerson sat rooted on the plush office chair, the wheels creaking to one side as he leaned in, much of the words coming out of his mouth remained obtuse to Steve’s ears. He heard them a thousand times, an inconceivable offer, a must sign deal. It’s paperwork, it’s petty thievery, it’s loose change in the breast pocket of his suit.
“I’m telling you, Steve, I really think we should step in on this one, the Montgomery’s have already signed, we’re just waiting on you. I know the south Brooklyn gangs have been giving you headaches on your south front, this alliance will eliminate that, eliminate them”.
Steve rubs his jaw, and the building of a scruff itches his skin as he recalls his need to shave soon, it wasn’t bad. The deal. Those small crooked gangs were annoying him, turning up everywhere, the kind where you cut off one head and three more took its place, the kind of pest that didn’t go away until you took it from the root.
Noticing Steve’s apprehension, Richerson is quick to reply with a cough,
“You don’t have to make a decision now, you know all of New York would be waiting hand and foot for your every word. No matter how long it takes” Richerson awkwardly laughs, eyes flickering across Steve’s unfazed expression, his features set in clay, giving no hint to his decision.
Richerson catches Bucky and Sam's eyes, as they await by the sides of the large sandalwood doors, hands behind their backs, statures reaching, the mass of hidden weapons covered beneath their dark black suits.
“How about some alcohol? A shipment just arrived from Haiti, they say it’s better than Appleton Estate, they also said too much can make you go into cardiac arrest” Richerson replies, trying to lighten the mood.
His eyes unconsciously flicker to his phone, then the clock, and back to his phone again. Anyone else would have blinked through it, oblivious to Richerson's unease, not Steve though, no, of course not. His eyes were trained to be sniper shot, always looking, always surveying. It’s this gift that allows him to sniff out even the most disguised rats, he can smell anything, a bad deal, a set-up, a sting operation.
People like to say he can even tell the police department has been somewhere, can sense their blues and blacks and brutality from miles away.
Steve smiles, reaching for the glass Richerson offers him. He makes no motion to drink from it though, he was always a whiskey man.
Santiago on the other hand, waste no time in throwing back the glass, letting the auburn liquid down his throat in loud gulps. Steve waits a beat, before returning the glass to his mouth, behind the rim, Santiago's eyes follow his movements, the fraction of relief sits on his shoulder and it has Steve pulling back, letting the glass rest on the desk, the sound clunk causing Santiago to flinch.
“I feel like there is something you're not telling me Santi” Steve smiles, a wicked smile, his infamous smile, this one’s different to the one he gives you, This was cat-like, deceptively comforting, it's his infamous smile, the one he gives when he knows your hidden motives, the one where it makes you shit your pants and realise you’re utterly fucked.
Santiago gulps, attempting to reach for another glass before Bucky stops him, lifting the bottle away from him. Santiago looks up confused, finally realising that much of his men were to the side, watching on, hands to their sides, relaxed. Another chest piece to Steve’s kingdom.
“This deal, it's good, it benefits me greatly in fact, but I’m wondering where in this deal do you come in? What do you gain from this? I know you don't have enough operations to set up a Southern front, so how is signing a deal with the Montgomery’s going to help you?
“They base their operations off the shore. Half of your family’s roots are in Harlem. Unless you’ve come in with some money, an off the books, under the table deal you’ve so kindly left me out on”. Steve yawns, leaning back against the chair, his hair remains impeccably in place, not a strand awry. “You couldn’t afford the liability”.
Santiago looks as though he has swallowed a live tarantula, back pin-straight, eyes bulging out of their sockets, his hands fumbling around him, itching his knee, scratching his beard. A bead of sweat rolls down his sunken face and catches on his nose before splatting on the office table.
“You look like you need a drink, here, have mine, I never had the stomach for rum” Steve offers, eyes surveying Santiagos, Steves outstretched hand offering his glass, the space a mere centimetre from Santiago’s grasp.
Santiago is in bits, mind scrambled, anxiety floating in his stomach, sick, he felt sick, the feathers of nausea crawl up his throat, and before he can think, before he can take a second and think, he's reaching for Steves glass, gulping down anything to quell the nausea bubbling in his stomach.
It takes Santiago 2 full sips before he's realised what he's done, he throws the glass, and it shatters against the Armenian painting near the door, he's puckering, spitting out the liquid. It's too late, the laced poison settles in his stomach, under his skin, in his eyes, everywhere.
“Did you really think I would drink that? Hm? Are you insane? Fuck Santi, we could have avoided this” Steve's voice rings through, bounces off the walls, as Santiago is scrambling off his chair, crawling around as he heaves loudly.
Through the haze of poison, Santiago manages to drop his phone, it clanks across the floor and lands right at Steves's feet. The sounds of its ringing catches Santiago's ears and a new fear envelopes him, his eyes bulging out as he tries to scream, protest, and reach for it, but it's all a wet gurgled mess. White froth begins to empty from his mouth, as he tries to move.
The number catches Steves's eye, it's a burner, nothing Santiago would have use for, grim sets in Steve, there is a persisting feeling at the age of his mind that this is not yet over.
Steve answers the call, he pauses as the other person on the line is speaking as if hiding back a grin.
“Look Santi, I know we agreed to get her when Stevie's all face down and seizing, but she was out in the open, shopping or some shit down on Southaven drive. We just couldn't pass on that golden opportunity, could we boys?!” The person roars, and the sound of hooted laughter filters in from the background.
“You should've seen it, how she scrambled and yelped, god she’s one pretty little thing, tied and gagged and she still screamed for him. When Steve’s out of the picture I get to keep her, show her what a real man is like, how ‘bout that sweetheart?” The gruff voices sing songs, the sounds of fumbling before the muffled scream of your voice cuts through the receiver.
“Ow! Fucking bitch kicked me, you better get here soon Santi, my patience is wearing thin, and I'm not scared to deliver some damaged merchandise” Barks the person.
The person continues to speak, but it muffles into the phone as the screen cracks within Steve's palm, steel and glass fall to the ground as Steve throws the phone across the room.
It all went quiet then, the noise of Sam, of Bucky, of Santiago’s heaving wet coughs, the air conditioner, all white noise. Steve was blinded by this feeling, this heart arching feeling. He felt his chest cave in, split in two, dripping gushes of blood. His hand reaches for his chest, pulling, ripping his tie apart. His body moves without his brain, like muscle memory, like he knows what he has to do, he lunches for Richerson and wraps a hand around his neck as he drags him from his crawling escape.
He holds him there, choking him as he brings down his fist across his face. The wet sound of bones crunching into muscle and skin go on forever, bouncing across the room until the throaty heave of Richardson is all that is left of him.
His face swollen beyond recognition, piss and blood leaking from him, eyes bloodshot and awry. Tradition and bespoken family ties are ripped to shreds, spotted with the blood of Santiago’s throat.
Bucky is on the phone, barking orders, Sam is to the corner dragging Steve off of him. Steve stands erect, a man with a mission, with a sudden purpose that brings fear into even Bucky himself.
He had never seen him like this.
Even when Bucky had been taken, left to die at the hands of enemy rivals in that culdesac those years before.
Even when Sam had torn his shoulder stopping Steve’s potential assassination in the ruins of a deal gone awry.
Nothing, nothing prepared them for what Steve would do when the unforgivable happened to you. Irreplaceable, loving, incredible you.
Bucky and Sam were both in pieces as they gathered their ammunition to find you, you were Steve’s of course, but they had parts of you, the kindness of your eyes lessened the hardened of their hearts a little, you were family to them, they’d die for you.
Much of their fear was clouded by the audacity of it, taking you, the rest of New York knew you were off-limits, that taking you meant declaring war with Steve. And no one was stupid enough to do that unless they had the possibility they could win. No, not just a possibility, a certainty. The truth of it is shown as Steve shakes with misplaced anger, how dare they, it rang in his mind, mocked him, torture him from within.
“Where the fuck is she?” Roared Steve, it sounded like it was for no one, but it was said so that it was meant for Santiago. Steve's harrowing footsteps stomp towards Santiago, he's curled in on himself, flinching as Steve gets near. Steve reaches for him pulling the last shreds of his dress shit by his fist, slamming him on the table.
Steve comes closer, squeezing Santiago's cheeks, his other hand is reaching for a knife, and the glint of it has Santiago screaming for death.
“I don't like to repeat myself, do yourself a favour of a quick death and tell me” Steve shakes, hand grasping the hilt as he presses it into Santiago's chest.
“TELL ME” Howls Steve, he's left the knife now, it falls to the floor as Steve instead begins to wrap his large palm around Santiago's throat, pressing until the white sheen of sweat appears on his face.
A murmur leaves Santiago’s lips, muffled by the blood and skin and muscle, yet Steve hears it all the same.
“What was that? Speak louder will you, or do you want me to pull out your voice box instead?” Steve grunts, patience wearing thin.
“A warehouse near the Hudson-” wheeze “-a defunct start-up, Steel Workings” Santiago finally manages the last word, falling back onto the floor. It's all Steve needs, so he reaches for Santiago, let the screams and wails of bargaining fall to his deaf ears, and snaps.
The heavy head of Santiago falls awkwardly against Steve, and he pushes him off, leaving him to lay limp on the floor as he leaves the room.
The car is running as Steve slides in, Bucky and Sam following suit.
“I swear to fucking god, those traffic lights better be green” Grunts Steve as he pushes the gas, quickly turning out of Richerdsons's stone driveway, onto the expansive gravel road.
Steve is still in his mind, the soundless cloak that’s trying to separate him from the truth, trying to spare him so he doesn't fall to pieces. He rips it apart and forces his eyes to take in everything, he needs to be present, he needs to be honest with himself if he wants to save you.
“Steve” Bucky starts eyeing the blonde, the grip of his fingers around the steering wheel was turning painful, Bucky didn't know how long he'd last.
“I’ve got Starks men on the line, he's willing to let you pass through to get to her faster” Bucky breathes out. The bargaining it took to persuade the pretentious billionaire put down his pride was ridiculous, but it was something Bucky would do a thousand times over for you.
The sentence barely leaves Bucky’s mouth before Steve is taking a sharp turn, through the part of the city that was claimed as Starks, it feels like time was fighting against them, the minutes and seconds ticking by, mocking them, mocking Steve.
A feeling Steve has long forgotten engulfs him, sits on the stone floor of his stomach, and jitters him with shakes that were half violent.
“You're scared” Sam answers for him, Steve nods, the lights of the city skyscrapers make mirages against the tinted windows,
“All our men are on deck, I’ve called in Francisco, Natasha, we will get those sick fucks, and we’ll make them bleed” Sam replies
Steve doesn't let Sam’s reassurance dent him, he knows this story all too well, to think he would be spared from it, to think you would be spared from it, in this life, was foolish. Steve didn't rely on hope, or prayers, he relied on his gut, his power, his influence.
And there was no time more needed for them than now, saving his girl.

Muffins
Pie - eyed over you - Chapter 3
Mafia - Baker AU
Masterlist                        Series Masterlist
Previous Part
Pairing - Mafia!Bucky x Baker!Reader
Summary - When a new baker in town refuses to abide by his rules, Bucky has no option but to go and take care of it himself. But nothing could prepare him for what stood on the other side. Nothing could prepare him for you.
Warnings - Mentions of murder, lots of fluff (gotta give the fluff before the angst for it to hurt more, yup I am evil), Steve and Sam being a menace
Word count - around 6k
a/n - So, after two delays, hell a lot of editing, and straight up changing the whole structure of this chapter and then combining it with another (hence the length), it’s finally here. Thank you so much to all of you for putting up with me. Please let me know what you guys think about this. Your kind words keep me going.
Tumblr media
You placed the muffins in a tray for display before making a note in your diary to buy more chocolate chips when you go to the market on the weekend.
Running a bakery all on your own is a difficult job but you wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world. Even though you were not a morning person, the prospect of coming here and baking made it getting up from the bed every morning a tad bit easier.
As you heard knocks on the door, you frowned before looking up, there was still some time left before it was time to open up the bakery.
But when your eyes landed on the figure standing outside the door, looking like a complete misfit in his dark clothes and sunglasses and surprisingly, a baseball cap covering his forehead, a pathetic attempt at being discreet, you can't help the way your lips turn upward and your heart flutters.
He was here just yesterday and yet it felt like you were seeing him after too long.
Get yourself together.
It's just a crush, it'll go away.
You wiped your palms on your apron before walking towards the door to open it.
You gave him a teasing smile before saying, "You're at the wrong place. Baseball convention is another mile from here."
He rolled his eyes before stepping inside the bakery, bending a little, the door a little too short for him. "Hello to you too, sweets."
You chuckled before walking towards the counter as he took his usual seat. Everything felt like a routine. Engraved in your soul as if it had always been there.
"Gracing this bakery with your presence two days in a row. To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"Maybe I just missed my sweets." He shrugged as if it was obvious.
"Continue this and you are going to get diabetic." You remarked with a smirk.
"Not the sweets I was talking about, but okay."
The smirk immediately left your lips as you could practically feel your heart beat out of your chest. He didn't mean it. He's just teasing.
But no matter what you think, you can't help the way the red color crept up to your neck at his words.
Okay, this crush is getting out of hand.
"So, how's work?" You say in an attempt to change the topic.
He tenses at your words. You had asked him what he did, and he had replied that he was a mechanic. It was becoming more difficult for him to lie to you.
But maybe, he won't have to much longer.
He was pretty sure Walker was on his way to screw things up.
That son of a -
"Earth to James!!" Your voice moving and your palm waving in front of his face brought him out of his thoughts.
"I asked how was work." You said with a frown. James always got weirdly uncomfortable when you asked about work. Maybe he didn't want to talk about it, but you were no one to ask.
"Oh, it's been fine. You know, the usual."
"Yeah, yeah. Steve is a dorky idiot and Sam is an annoying prick. I know." You said imitating the words he had said to you not a long time ago.
Bucky chuckles. Telling you about Steve and Sam was easier. Maybe sharing something about him which wasn't a lie, made him feel less guilty.
He knew this was wrong.
He was creating a web of lies that you will find out one day.
But Bucky Barnes wasn't a good man and he would take whatever time he has got before the inevitable happened.
Which wasn't going to be today.
He wasn't going to let Walker ruin this.
He will just sit there, hiding half of his face with the baseball cap. It would be easy. It wasn't like Walker would expect to see him here anyways.
He was just here to make sure that he didn't hurt you.
The both of you striked a conversation just like usual and you immediately felt better. You knew it was going to be a great day. Had started off on the best possible note, atleast.
The clock striked eight before you knew it and you got up from your chair to flip the sign at the bakery.
"Why don't you hire someone to help you?" James asks, sipping his coffee.
"Why, you're looking for a job?" You teased him with raised eyebrows. "Job at the garage doesn't pay enough for your baseball conventions?"
He rolled his eyes. "When are you gonna let this one go?"
"I think… never."
He chuckled before asking again, "But, seriously, sweets, why not get a helping hand?"
" 'Cause I am selfish." When he narrowed his eyes, you continued. "I know this sounds weird, but I don't like it when anybody else cooks the food. It's just never good enough."
"So, why not hire someone to deal with the customers?"
"That's literally the best part of the job." You half exclaimed. "People telling you whether they liked the sweets or not is the best part, James. Almost as good as getting to eat all the leftovers."
James chuckled before setting his coffee mug down. "There is no pleasing you."
You shrugged before walking behind the counter to get everything ready for the morning rush you were sure was about to walk through the door any moment now.
When a few people came in, some regular customers and some students hoping to get in some caffeine to start the day, you saw as James involuntarily tensed.
Bucky watched the front door with focused eyes as minutes ticked by. He knew Walker will be here any minute now.
And he was proven right as he saw John Walker opening the door of the bakery and walking in with a smug look on his face, shoving away whoever came in his path.
Bucky wanted nothing more than to pull him out of here, away from you and this warm place but he couldn't do that. There would be consequences, which he normally wouldn't give a second thought to, but the real nuisance would bring questions.
He watched as you greet him with the same grin on your face that you used for all your customers, saying in a soft voice, "Hey, what can I get you?" And Bucky can swear Walker doesn't even deserve to breathe the same air as you.
"Why not start by paying off?" Walker said with a tone harsh and loud enough that a few customers turned to see what was happening.
You frowned your eyes in confusion, "I am sorry." You were still speaking in a calm, soft voice, trying your best to get whoever this man was to calm down. You didn't want a commotion so early in the day.
"Walker." He said as if it was enough of an introduction before continuing, "And I think you have an idea of where I am coming from. You owe us."
James watched as realization dawned on your face and you stood straighter, your smile turning into a forwn. "I don't owe anyone anything."
He leaned towards you, keeping his arms crossed on the counter, speaking with a smirk, "Don't try to act smart, baby doll. Pay up and no one gets hurt."
He watches as you cringe at the nickname  and almost take a small step back, discomfort clear on your face.
Bucky almost gets up from his chair, his first instinct to slit off Walker's throat with the knife he had tucked in his jacket. He would make it less messy too, but painful.
Control, he isn't going to hurt her.
"I am not going to pay you a single cent, Walker. So, why don't you take your ass out of my bakery and leave me alone?" As you speak, your hand inches towards the knife that you keep below the counter for situations like these. Even though you hoped you'd never have to use it, it was better to be prepared than sorry.
John clenches his fist as his eyes bore into your skull, "Don't make this difficult. You don't know who you are trying to mess up with. The people I work with wouldn't blink an eye before dumping your body in a dumpster. Just pay every month and we leave you alone."
"I have said it before and I'll say it again, I am not going to pay you to let me live." It's as if something switches inside you. The slight fear or discomfort that could be seen in your features is completely gone now.
Bucky watches as Walker growls in impatience before reaching for his jacket pocket.
Nope, not happening
"Listen to me, you little bitch - "
Walker is cut off immediately when a larger figure stands between him and the counter.
James shields you from him, obstructing his view.
"Leave her alone." The sound is almost a growl. And if Walker hadn't been too preoccupied he would have noticed how familiar that sounded.
"And who the hell are you?" He spat.
Bucky looks down at him and watches as all the color is drained out of his face when he recognises him.
"S - si "
"Leave her alone and if you show up around here ever again, it will be you in the dumpster, cut into more pieces than you can count."
Fear is obvious on Walker's face, as he completely forgets the weapon he was reaching for, trying to get his senses to work, confusion evident on his face.
Before he can ask any questions, Bucky takes a step towards him, with sheer coldness in his eyes as if he could slit Walker's throat right now and wouldn't blink.
You watch as the man - who had introduced himself as Walker- saunters out of the bakery with quick steps.
You frowned your eyes at whatever had happened here.
You weren't going to pay the mob any money, you knew that. But you also knew that you couldn't have overpowered that man, especially if he had a weapon hidden under there somewhere.
"You didn't have to do that, James." You said softly, in an attempt to get his attention away from the door he was boring holes in.
He turned back and you watched as his expression turned into the soft one you were so familiar with.
You walked from behind the counter towards where he was standing before explaining, "He works for the mob. Trust me, you don't want to get involved with them."
Bucky's breath hitches at that. How could he explain to you that he wasn't just involved with the mob?
"It's okay, sweets. They won't hurt me." That was some truth. They were never going to hurt him, and before Walker could utter a single word to anyone about the events of the day, he would be fired. Bucky would make sure of that.
"I know." You sighed, looking down at the floor as if contemplating something. It was silent for a moment before you looked up, "Thank you, James. It does mean a lot to me." You said with a soft, grateful smile on your face and your hand reached out to his.
"Anytime, sweets."
A moment passed before anyone of you dared to move. Your hand was now brushing his arm in slight touches.
You broke the silence, "Come on, have some muffins. They are on me." You said before turning back and walking towards the counter.
Bucky had to stand there for a moment because his skin had suddenly started to feel cold and empty. Like it wasn't enough without your touch, before walking back towards the counter and standing right in front of where you were taking out some muffins on a plate.
"So, Ms Feisty, something against the mob?" He said, trying desperately for his voice to sound joking.
You shrugged while passing the muffins to him and turning to pour some coffee for yourself. "I am not going to pay them money just because everybody else does. Why the hell do I pay taxes?"
"But the way you were standing, you don't just want to rebel, sweets. You hate them." He said, an emotion in his voice you couldn't really place. He prayed that that wasn't the case, that he had read the situation wrong and maybe you didn't really hate the mob.
"Hate is a strong word, James. I - despise them." You reply before looking up at him to meet his eyes, but he looks away, almost as if looking at you right now would physically hurt him.
"I mean, they aren't really that bad, right? It's not like I know a lot about them but I have heard they protect the city." He tries.
"Uh-huh. They are not good people. You remember that day when we met? When it was raining and I had lost my way, and you were there - "
"I remember the day we met, sweets." He interrupts. Every part of that day was engraved in his mind.
"Yeah, yeah right. So, that day I was coming back from a friend's house. She has a daughter, Ellie, about 5 years old."
He hums, nodding his head, not sure where you were going with this.
"Both of them were switching houses. Leaving their home, that they had built, to live in a one bedroom apartment in the not so respected area of the town. You know why?"
He narrowed his eyes.
"Because her dad was killed." You took a deep breath, trying to keep the rage from bubbling up to the surface. "A 5 year old lost her father, James. And why? Because of some stupid mob feud."
"What was her dad's name?" He asked, not sure if he wanted to know the answer.
"Jake"
Bucky's moments halted as images came back to his mind's forefront. He had killed that man himself. Shot three bullets straight into his chest. He had felt no remorse then. That man was a traitor. Had joined hands  with the enemy, knowing very well what the consequences could be.
He had felt no remorse then because he hadn't given a moment of thought to the people he might be leaving behind. It made his work easier. Pretending that there were no consequences to whatever they did.
But now he could see the consequences. In the form of rage in your eyes at the tale and the hurt he felt in his chest, thinking about the girl. He knew how that felt. Being alone, and helpless.
"She didn't deserve that. None of them did. Nobody deserves to lose somebody they love, James. But it hits the worst when it's unforeseeable. When the people who did it are out there in the world, as if their hands aren't tainted with blood, living their life and you can do nothing about it."  You say, swallowing the lump in your throat. Thinking about your friend and Elliot always brought you to tears. You tried to help them as much as you could, but there was only so much you could do.
Bucky looks into your eyes and sees tears in the corner of your eyes. He wants to hold your hand, to comfort you, to tell you that they are going to be fine. But how could he, when his were the hands that were tainted with blood, that had taken the life of that man without a second thought.
So, he just sits there, listening to you talk about the lady and her kid, even though each of your words is like a sword stabbed through his chest.
When he knows you are fine, he takes his leave, bidding you goodbye before walking out and calling Steve.
"Steve, I need you to do something."
"What's up, Buck? Everything okay?" Steve replied in a concerned voice. Even after everything, his concern for his best friend never faded.
"I am sending you some details of a lady and her kid. Send me the contacts of the person who bought their house."
"Give me half an hour. But who are these people?"
"They are going to be our responsibility, Steve."
He cuts the call and sends a quick text with all the details he might need.
He can't help but turn back towards the bakery to have one last look. He has made up his mind. He was going to tell you the truth.
he didn't care if it meant you would hate him. There were many people in the town who despised him, what's one more?
But when he turns back and his eyes land up on you, handing a cup of coffee to a middle aged lady, talking to her with a softness unique to you.
As if you can feel his eyes on you, you turn towards the window and as your eyes meet, your smile grows wider. A smile that's only reserved for him, he realizes.
And he would have hated himself for how quickly his resolve fades away.
But Bucky Barnes was not a good man.
And maybe many people in this world did hate him, but he would be damned if you were one of them.
He wanted this. The weekly bakery visits, the warmth, the sheer simplicity of it all, even if it was all this was ever going to be.
And it was about damn time he got what he wanted.
Why should he apologize for the monster he has become when no one ever apologized for making him this way?
Maybe, one day you'll find out the truth and hate him more for lying to you, but it wasn't going to be anytime soon. He will make sure of that.
So, he straightens his coat and walks away from the bakery, choosing to not pay any mind to the inevitable doom that could leave the both of you shattered.

"James Buchanan Barnes"
He turns back from what he is doing to find you, cross armed, shooting daggers at him.
"How could you, James? It's like you're not even trying."
He can't help the smile that finds its way to his lips at the way you look. Your christmas sweater that you had deemed "perfect" for the occasion and a scarf draped loosely on your neck, trying to look intimidating, just makes you look even cuter.
You walk towards him and take the candy decoration from his hand, to place it exactly just an inch away from where he was going to, because it looked in your exact words, "more festive"
Bucky just smiles at you as he watches you ramble more about Christmas decorations.
When a week ago, he had heard you reminding Pietro that he had to come over to help you decorate, he had stepped in and offered his help. He was free that day anyways, he had told you. There was an international shipment that he had to sign off that day, but that could wait.
When Pietro had shaken his hand and thanked him for 'saving him', he didn't understand, but now he did. You were extremely particular about how each and everything had to look for christmas and was not shy to tell the other person what a terrible job they were doing if it wasn't exactly the way you had wanted.
But if the cute pout on your face and the warmth that it caused in his chest was any indication, it was worth it. The cookies whose smell reached him even in the living room was just an added bonus.
Right now, standing in the middle of your apartment, surrounded by incomplete decorations that signaled the arrival of a festival he wouldn't have cared the slightest about a year ago, being scolded by you for not hanging the canes correctly, he regretted nothing.
3 hours and a lot of debates later, all of which you won, the house was finally decorated enough for the festival.
"Here you go." You said, handing him a warm cup of coffee and placing a plate full of cookies on the table in front of him. It was your way of saying thank you.
Bucky looks around your apartment. It's just above the bakery and much smaller than the mansion he lived in. But it felt different in a way he couldn't point out.
A shelf filled to the brim with books standing in the corner, pictures adorning the walls, each telling a different story. Some soft music playing on the speaker, it was like a blanket of warmth stood over your house. A little messy, but beautiful nonetheless.
His eyes then land on you, sitting across from him on the sofa, sipping your coffee with a warm, content look on your face, your scarf now lying on the table.
As if you could feel his gaze, you turn back to look at him and your breath hitches in the throat at the way he is looking at you.
It's as if the world could crumble around him and he wouldn't blink an eye.
You can't get yourself to look away. So, you just raise your eyebrows, because you have suddenly forgotten how to breathe and if he didn't look away right now, you are not sure you will be able to survive longer.
He just shrugs and turns towards his coffee, as if it was a natural occurrence. As if your whole world hadn't stopped spinning for a moment there.
Bucky looks at you through the corner of his eyes and watches as red color creeps up to your neck and you try your hardest to not smile.
He now recognises the feeling.
Your apartment feels like home.
And the next realization brings with itself questions and doubts he wasn't ready to answer.
He wouldn't rather be anywhere else.
**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩
He clenches his fist as he drags his feet towards the bakery.
It was pretty late. He knew that.
But he just had to be there.
He liked his work more often than not. The impending guilt and the danger aside, the reason that had initially brought him to this world still stood.
It made him feel something. The adrenaline of each task, the satisfaction of seeing everything that belonged to his enemies burning down till there was nothing but smoke.
The mafia world had welcomed the darkness that he had inside of him and made him one of their own, for which he will be eternally grateful.
But for some time now, it hasn't been enough.
The darkness that had surrounded and consumed him for so many years now was suddenly not enough.
Something inside him changed.
For the first time in as long as he could remember, he had thought twice before shooting that man today. The whispers inside him that asked him every time 'if there was any other way' had become louder now and even the noise of the bullets couldn't silence it.
He knew what was happening.
He was seeking the light.
And every single part of him knew that this could only end in disaster. In a fire that threatened to burn every single thing to the last piece.
But that didn't stop him from taking the next step. Or the one after that.
He was still walking to the one place that could silence away his thoughts and make it all go away. Like a moth attracted to a flame.
Maybe this was selfish of him. Maybe he was tainting you with his darkness.
He will think about that some other day.
When the bakery comes into view, he realizes just how late it is.
You would be about to close now.
Maybe he could catch a glimpse before you retired for the night. It wasn't enough. It was never enough. But it had to do.
As he reaches the bakery, he watches as the door slowly opens and a young boy steps out.
He frowns before walking ahead, and his eyes almost widen with who he sees.
"Peter, what are you doing here?"
Peter looks up from the book he is currently holding and his eyes widen with fear at the figure who stands before him.
"S - sir, I - I was just - "
A voice from inside the bakery calls out to him. A voice Bucky recognizes all too well.
"Peter, you forgot this."
You step out of the bakery with a textbook in your hands as you hand it over to Peter.
Peter opens his mouth to speak but then closes it. Too afraid about what was going to happen.
You turn around and when your eyes land on James, your lips turn into a grin before you know it.
"James, hi"
Peter's eyebrows shoot up as he looks between the both of you. You have a glint in your eyes as if you couldn't be happier by anything else and the man he had feared with everything he had for the last couple of years, had a softness to his features that made Peter wonder if he was somehow swallowed into an alternate dimension.
"Hey, sweets." Bucky says almost on instinct, before turning towards the boy who is still looking at the both of them as if he just saw a dolphin flying in the air.
You probably notice it too, because you then point towards Peter before saying, "James, this is Peter, and Peter, this is James Barnes."
"James?" Peter says almost on instinct, confusion evident in his voice.
"Wait, you know him?" You ask, looking between the both of them now.
Peter looks at Bucky and almost crumbles with fear by the warning glare he is shooting towards him. But there is something else there too. Something, he can swear he has never seen in the mob boss' eyes.
There is fear in them. A tiny flicker of it. He fears the answer he is going to tell you. Whatever it was, it was too important for him.
"No, no. I don't think we have met before."
"Oh, okay." You say, confused as to what had just happened here. "All the best for the test and tell MJ I said hi," You give him an easy exit from a situation he was clearly uncomfortable in.
You watch as a small blush spreads across his cheeks before he bids you goodbye and glancing at James once, takes his leave.
"He is a nice kid." You break the silence after Peter walks away, out of earshot. "Pretty smart. I was helping him with his test tomorrow."
Bucky looks back at you and shrugs in response. "Good for him."
"By the way, it's closing time, James." You say with a teasing voice and he is relieved that you don't ask any further questions.
"Come on, sweets. You could make an exception for your favorite customer."
You roll your eyes before replying. "What about this? You help me clean up, and I get you something special I made today."
"Help you clean up?"
"Aww. The prince doesn't like to get his hands all dirty?" You smirk.
"This special treat should better be worth it, sweets." He huffs before walking inside the bakery.
You walk in behind him while giggling.
__
"And that's it."
You look at him with a smile and silently clap your hands together with an impressed look.
If any of his men would see him right now, wearing an apron with a bunny on it, hands covered in flour, working in a bakery with soft music playing in the background, their eyes would pop out of their heads. But he couldn't care less.
"Great job for a first timer, Barnes. You have earned yourself a serving of something special."
Bucky smirked before replying, "Something special, you say?" He leans in and sends a wink your way.
You roll your eyes before turning towards the kitchen, hoping that it wasn't evident how flustered you were.
You take out something from a box and place it on a plate in front of him.
Bucky looked at it closely with a frown. It was clearly made of chocolate and was shaped like a dome. He could swear he had never seen it in your bakery before.
"Come on, give it a try. If I wanted to poison you, I would have done it ages ago."
He picks up one and after a moment of close inspection, takes a bite.
As the taste of chocolate invades his senses, he moans and puts the whole into his mouth.
You watch as his head falls back in delight.
Once he is done, which is faster than he would have wanted, he says, "Sweets, that was the best damn thing I have ever had."
You chuckle, "You say that every single time, James."
"And I mean it every single time."
You just smile at him before putting another on the plate.
As he devours that one quickly too, he inquires, "What is it called?"
You smirk before replying, "James."
"Yeah?"
"James. That's what it is called."
His eyes widen and he takes a moment to reply, "You named a sweet after me?"
"Well, technically, you were the inspiration for this."
He frowns. "How so?"
"Well, It's full of chocolate and exceptionally sweet. It's exterior is hard but its insides are so soft, they practically melt in your mouth."
Bucky looks at you, baffled and you look away, unable to meet his eyes.
He opens his mouth to say something, but is suddenly shushed by you.
"That's my favorite song." You whisper, as if not wanting to obstruct the soft melody.
Bucky listens to the sound coming from your phone.
Wise men say
"Only fools rush in"
But I can't help
Falling in love with you
He looks back at you and at the way you have a soft smile on your face, your features highlighted by the soft glow of the kitchen light.
You look at him and with a teasing smile puts your hand forward, indicating to him to take it.
He looks between your outstretched hand and your face with a frown.
"Dance with me." Your voice is so soft, he just can't get himself to say no. But, who is kidding? He will set the whole world on fire and watch it burn with a smile on his face if you asked him to.
He slowly places his hand in yours as the music continues.
Shall I stay?
Would it be a sin
If I can't help
Falling in love with you
The both of you stand in the middle of the kitchen, the moonlight sweeping its way through the windows.
Everything is brightened in a warm glow but you know nothing will ever shine brighter than the way his ocean blue eyes do right now.
Take my hand
Take my whole life, too
For I can't help
Falling in love with you
One of his arms finds its way around your waist while the other holds yours.
You place your free hand on his shoulder and he gently pulls you closer.
The both of you stay like that for the rest of the song, swaying slowly to the music.
Like a river flows
Surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to be
You don't know who  leans first but before you know it, the distance between the both of you starts decreasing.
You hold your breath and your gaze move from his eyes to his lips.
You would be lying if you said you had never thought of this before, of how his lips would feel against yours, how he would taste like.
This man had occupied your thoughts since the day you had met all those months ago and you were pretty sure he had no idea of the effect he had on you.
Take my hand
Take my whole life, too
For I can't help
Falling in love with you
For I can't help
Falling in love with you
Just as the song is about to end and there's nothing but an inch of distance between the both of you, the door to the bakery was suddenly pushed open with a force and the sound of the bells invaded the comfortable silence that had covered the room in a blanket.
The both of you took a sudden step away, and you needed a moment to calm your heart which felt like it was about to beat its way out of your chest, before looking up to see who it. was.
You squinted as two men, one blonde and the other dark haired, stood at the door, looking comically too big, having no idea of what transcribed in the bakery before they had not-so-smoothly barged in.
The blonde one speaks, breaking the silence, "I knew we'd find you here."
You watch as he steps towards James, who looks at him with sheer annoyance. "What the hell are you doing here, punk?"
The other man looks at you and forms a smirk before stepping towards you. "So, this is where you always sneak off to? I guess I understand why."
James huffs in annoyance and with a sten face stops him, "Shut up, Wilson."
You look between the men who looked like they were in a staring contest when realization hit you. "Steve and Sam?"
All the men look at you at the same time and you feel like a deer caught in headlights before you stand up straighter reminding yourself that no matter how intimidating the situation was, this was your bakery.
"And you must be y/n l/n. It's great to finally meet you, Ms l/n" Steve says, smiling.
"Please, just call me y/n."
"Or we could call you beautiful." Sam replies before stepping forwards, stretching his hand to take yours for a shake.
You let out a chuckle before shaking his hand. "Y/n is fine."
"What are the both of you doing here?" Bucky speaks up, shooting daggers at Sam, his fists clenched.
"There's an emergency. We need to go." Steve replies, a serious expression adorning his face.
Sam interjects them "What's the hurry? I have heard so much about this bakery. We could eat something before leaving."
Bucky spats at him, "This bakery has closed, Wilson. Time's up. Get your butt moving."
Sam pouts and you chuckle at the antics of these grown men, "Why don't you come here some other day, Sam, I have something that I think you'll like."
Sam looks at you, a childlike smile replacing his pout, "I like her already."
Bucky steps forward towards Sam, pulling him away. "Don't listen to him, sweets."
Steve and Sam turn their head towards him so fast. you are sure they will get a sprain later. Sam raises his brows with a smirk on his face, while Steve looks at him with a smile on his.
James then quickly bids you goodbye before pulling the both of them outside the bakery.
Once they reach the car Steve and Sam had driven in, they both look at him with amused grins.
"Back off, the both of you. What's the emergency?"
Steve's expression turns serious as he replies, "Our shipment from Iran has been stopped at Morocco and they are refusing to comply."
Bucky narrows his eyes at the information. Who would dare to stop their shipment and risk getting on his bad books? "Who is it, Steve?"
"It's Alexander Pierce."
Bucky lets out a breath before looking in the direction of the bakery once more  and then turning towards Steve and Sam.
"Get in the car. We need to leave right now. This is going to be a long assignment."

Bad For Me
Pairing: soft!dark!mob!Steve Rogers x reader
Summary: You met while taking a few classes at a fine arts school. While your main focus was dance and music, his focus was sketching, drawing and painting as much as he could.
You didn’t know how dangerous he was as a man, you wouldn’t have possibly guessed that he was going to take over the mob to become the next Don. You had no idea that the man you’d been on two dates with was a monster in sheep’s clothing.
He knew you. He wanted you.
He took you. And now you were his wife, never able to flee.

Thor hadn’t slept well in months, he kept one eye open every night, completely on edge. Every little noise set him off, he didn’t know which noise was you creeping around a corner, or the sound of his own heart hammering in his chest.
Paranoia settled in when Jane’s body was discovered, then Heimdal; at a moment's notice you could be there to strike him down. Avenging those he took from you. Slowly the support he had in New York had dwindled into almost nothing
He wouldn’t say he regretted what he did or who he killed. Collateral damage was impossible to avoid; whatever was best for the business. Tony was an unfortunate loss, but one he could still recover from. The rest of the bosses and families would bow to him, if it was the last thing they did.
Unfortunately his brother and father refused to bow before his rule, and they were dealt with. Loki caused more problems than Thor had anticipated, now it was time to burn those loose ends once and for all.
Or die trying.
Sitting up on your bike, you took in the serene landscape, after months of looking, you had finally tracked him down, the man who took everything from you. Thor was hiding. Hiding in Loki’s mansion far outside the city limits.
It would do him no good, you had taken out all his avenues of support, what little security he had would be easy for you to sift through, even on high alert.
The mansion was oddly quiet, as you made your way through the courtyard and into the foyer, Thor had little security for a man who was being hunted. It wasn’t entirely his fault, you had taken down Valkyrie and Heimdall, his security and men along with them. It’s not that he didn’t want good security, he didn’t have any left, and even the ones he scraped up were no match for you.
You hadn’t been yourself since your brother died, there was no separation between yourself and your assassin personas anymore. There weren’t any edges of yourself to grasp onto, the lines between yourself and the assassin you were molded into no longer existed; you were left with this monstrosity. Your old life was a distant memory, you didn’t have a tether to the woman you had been before, she was a stranger when you looked in the mirror.
Nothing but rage filled your entire being. Carbonell no longer existed, the Ace of Spades long gone, as for Wraith, she too had abandoned you. The nicknames your friends and victims had given you long ago seemed a little more fitting now. You were no longer a reaper doing someone else’s bidding, no, you were death incarnate, and you took who you pleased.
One of the guards tried in vain to surprise you behind an open doorway, your reflexes were too fast now, what once could have caught you off guard now stood no chance. He crawled backward, begging, blubbering for you to show him mercy as you advanced on him. You stopped raising your gun, gesturing to the door, “Run,” you sneered, watching him scramble to his feet and sprint out the door, “take the others with you. Anyone left won’t live to tell the tale.”
You catch a glimpse of yourself in one of the mirrors, your hair had grown out, the roots were showing, fading into the bone white they had given you with your Wraith identity. You weren't coming after Thor as an assassin, no, you wanted him to see your face, to know who he had wronged. You had forgotten the contacts, and your mask. You had no need for your tactical uniform, you doubted you would make it out alive anyway.
You made your way upstairs, at this point you were going through the motions, the men who were left didn’t even try. The moment they saw you, they would turncoat and run, their tails tucked between their legs.
Smart.
Anyone who tried otherwise didn’t make it five feet from you. Sweeping each room, you ensured Thor wasn’t hiding, but something told you he wouldn’t cower in a corner. No he would face you head on and he would fight till his final breath.
This room was one of the master bedrooms, decorated in deep tones of green. The balcony doors framed a picturesque view of the lake on the grounds. A golden frame sat atop the dresser, a beautiful golden haired woman stood next to Loki. Freya, you recognized her, Odin’s wife and Loki and Thor’s mother. Loki is smiling in the picture, frozen happily in time forever, it's the same smile he gave you the first time you'd ever met. Your gut twisted, the memory of him laying lifeless in Stark Tower clouded your mind, you had been too late.
Squeezing the blade in your hand, the memory only strengthened your resolve, Thor wouldn’t survive the evening. Clattering behind the doors pulled you from your thoughts, you stepped closer to the door as it burst open and one of Thor’s men jumped out, knife swinging, slicing your cheek as he shoved past you. He sprinted down the hall, throwing himself into the main door on this level, Loki’s office. Sighing you pulled a pistol from one of the dead man's hands and pursued him. He looked back, eyes wide as he yanked open the door, flinging himself inside, slamming it shut.
He saw you on the cameras, before he could hear his men’s screams. There was no escaping you, he had already heard what you’d done. Hell he had to kill one of his own men just to keep you off his trail; their deaths were merely warnings of what was to come for him.
Would he try to kill you? Absolutely, but then what? Would he run for the rest of his life from Steve and his men, or would Zemo come searching for him with the rest of the Aces? Thor knew he dug his own grave and knew he would lay in it, but not without a fight.
He flicked the camera’s off, standing to take in the serene landscape of his property, he engrained the beautiful rolling hills and summer blooms into his mind. What had started as a game of chess soon turned into a dangerous game of sharks and minnows, but even Sharks have predators. And he was no longer at the top of the food chain.
The gunshots, clattering and screaming of men in the hall pulled his attention to the office door, just as it was ripped open, one of his own men flung himself inside. The man slammed the door shut, throwing himself against it. The man’s eyes were wide, his chest rising and falling frantically, Thor could see the tremor in the man's hands traveling through the rest of his body. Outside the door silence settled through the mansion; only for a moment. A single gunshot split the air, the man jerked before slumping to the floor, the smear of blood on the door was the only evidence the bullet had killed him.
Thor watched as the doorknob slowly turned, the door creaking open on its hinges. His blood ran cold, his heart thundering in his ears as you stepped through the doorway, ignoring the body at your feet. You looked like something out of legend, your hair wild, your eyes, the ones he had always heard were hidden behind black or white contacts, were not. But they were not the familiar welcoming eyes he was used to, no, they were full of hellfire and brimstone; they scorched him, pinning him in place, his feet nailed to the floor.
A shiver ran down his spine, your familiar face not covered by a blood smeared mask, you were calm, your chest rising and falling at an abnormally slow rate for what activities he knew you had done mere seconds ago.
You approach him slowly, the embodiment of lethal grace, your head tilted slightly, a predator assessing its prey, he swore you could hear his heartbeat roaring in his chest.
Never had he had the bubbling urge to apologize, to beg for mercy, before, but with you standing in front of him, the urge surfaced. He quashed it, he would not cower to you, or anyone. He would stare death in the eye and smile saccharinely, and greet them like an old friend, but he wasn’t smiling now and you were no friend. You stared at him for a moment, your eyes not missing anything he waited on bated breath—
Next to him the cameras flicked back on, there was movement at the front gate, a familiar blonde head followed by several others passed through the gates in a hurry. A smirk lifted Thor’s lips as his eyes flicked back to you, “Seems you’ve run out of time little Stark. Better luck next time.”
There was a malicious sparkle in your eye as you drew your knives from their sheathes, stepping closer, “They won't save you Odinson whether it's days, hours, even seconds, it makes little difference.” you pause, a sinister smile curves your lips, “Hell awaits you, Odinson.”
Make it worth it, he thought, he rushed forward, yanking his blades from under his desk. “If I'm going to hell, I’m taking you with me!” Thor growls as he lunges at you in a flash of teeth and metal.
Steve and his men clear the grounds and first floor swiftly, but he feels they are already too late. The mansion is eerily silent the farther upstairs they clear, the more horrified he becomes. The inside of the mansion is chaos and carnage, he prays you hadn’t done all this on your own. Above them, sounds of struggles and broken glass thundered through the floor, he motioned to his men, moving quickly up the stairs.
In the final hall the sound had finally stopped, Bucky motioned to the last room, the door was barely cracked. Bucky had gone ahead of him, toeing the door open the rest of the way, gun raised. But as the door opened fully, Bucky froze in his tracks, Steve nearly slammed into him.
He looked over Bucky’s shoulder and nearly dropped his weapon at the carnage in front of him. He could barely stomach looking at the scene, his eyes locked on Thor’s chest, a bright white playing card sat pinned there by a blade, the embossed skull at its center now enhanced by the red blood casting shadows across it.
Bucky’s exasperated voice sounded next to him, “Steve, who the fuck—”
Bucky broke off, they both knew who had done this, you.
No, not you. Never you. You had been lost long ago, there was only one being that could have done this level of violence—
Death.
Freedom felt heavy, the ocean air whispering across your skin. Your heart is stranded in a city you could never go back to.
Mourning a life you never had the chance to live. You had hope, hope that he would find someone to take your place, to make him happy in a way you only dreamed you could. Without a goodbye, you knew he wouldn’t let you leave, but couldn’t ask him to abandon his home and family.
With an empty heart and a million opportunities ahead, you couldn’t help but be filled with sickening dread.
His bed remained empty, no one would fill the hole in his heart that you had called your own.
He had hope that he would see you again, maybe in another life, happy with someone you trusted enough to keep by your side.
With a million people around him, so many chances to move on, yet he remained completely alone with you gone.

“Fuck! This pussy is so fucking tight!” Y/N cried out as a painful smack landed on her already sore ass. The sting sent a shock of pleasure up her spine. She slumped forward onto her desk, physically unable to hold herself up anymore as the man behind her ripped her apart with every thrust and put her back together every time he pulled out.
Attempting to ground herself, Y/N’s fingers curled into the wood, perfectly manicured nails slicing the expensive vanish. She tried to scream, to speak but her voice had been ripped from her just as easily as her panties had. “You can take it, you were made for it.” He crooned as he readjusted his grip on her wide hips, to angle them up slightly, allowing the head of his fat cock to bash against her cervix with each downstroke.
Y/N moaned through clenched teeth, still unwilling to give him the satisfaction of knowing how much he was affecting her. “Shut the fuck up and make me cum, Rogers.” She snapped, yet her voice lacked any real conviction. But Steve didn’t appreciate her words.
“You stupid fucking slut, you take what I give you and you thank me for it.” His grip became painful, holding her so tightly, Y/N thought he might shatter her pelvis. His tone was balanced and laced with an anger that drove her higher.
Their alliance had been one purely out of necessity. Both of them are heads of notorious organizations with cops and robbers alike in their pockets. They tolerated each other, knowing a war between them would be mutually destructive and only coming together when another, larger force threatened their power.
Y/N thought Steve a bastard of the highest order and Steve believed Y/N a frigid bitch. They had to have at least 10 feet of space between them or else they would get into a physical fight. The partnership, however, was going well, they were slowly but steadily gaining back lost territory and it seemed like both families would have more power than ever once the war was over.
But all that was on the verge of crumbling down when Steve burst into her office, his long dark blonde hair a mess, his breathing ragged as he asked. “Did you fuck my right hand man?” He already knew the answer, Bucky had confessed to him a mere five minutes before he kicked down her door, going into far too much detail about the mob boss and her abilities.
Y/N just shrugged with a barely contained smirk. “What’s it to you Rogers?” And he snapped.
Items from her desk had been haphazardly knocked to the floor, and her clothes ripped to shreds as he plunged inside her, defiling her in a way she could’ve never imagined. She was forced to submit, to become nothing more than this powerful man’s toy and yet, she did not hate it. “Can he fuck you like this?” He murmured into her hair, the smell of cigarettes and her own juices filling her nose as he bent over her plump body.
“Can he make you tremble like this? Cockdrunk and pliable, willing to do whatever I want just so you can cum.” His thrusts had slowed down to a simple roll of his thin hips, keeping him buried deep within her in a way that drove her mad. She could feel the zipper of his expensive suit pants pressing painfully into the bruised skin of her behind, the dual feeling of the pain and fullness making her pleasure even more delicious.
One hand moved from her hip to the back of her neck, cradling the flesh almost tenderly. He guided her head so that she could look at him over her shoulder, force her eyes to meet his blue ones which were wild with lust and fury, and some deeper emotion she could not yet comprehend. “You’re mine princess.”
And something inside of her snapped. The fight left her body as her orgasm washed over her, her mind going blank with ecstasy. Steve grinned wickedly as she trembled below him, tightening around his cock, refusing to let him leave the warmth of her cunt. “That’s it, cum for me, princess.”
His smile fell as she tried to pull herself away from him, the pleasure quickly becoming a burn of overstimulation. “I told you to stay put!” He snarled. Y/N whimpered and struggled against him.
“’s too much!” She whined but instead of sympathy, she was met with another smack against her rear.
“Shut the fuck up! First you complain it’s not enough, now it’s too much? You really are an ungrateful brat.” And just like that, he pulled away from her once more, his thrusts becoming brutal, much like the monster she had come to know, not the man that held her gently and called her princess in the throes of passion.
He was seeking his own high, disregarding her pleas of slowing down. His cock twitched violently within her as he battered her womb. “We’ll be done when I say we’re done.”
——————
The room stank of sex, even with the huge windows thrown open to let some air in. Steve, having finally spilled his seed, not once, but twice over her back and thighs, was done. Given that he had ripped her own shirt in half, the blond gave Y/N his, quietly appreciating the way it shaped her curvy body, stretching over her considerable bust and wide hips.
They had yet to speak a word to each other, each of them too lost in their own thoughts as they sat side by side on the couch in the corner of the room. Steve pulled a carton of cigarettes from his pants pocket, silently offering his partner one and shrugging when she refused. Blue smoke curled around his head.
When he crushed the butt of his second cigarette in her coffee mug which miraculously hadn’t been shattered, Y/N finally spoke. “You can leave now.” Steve raised a dark eyebrow at her.
“Is that what you want, princess?” He made no move to get off the couch and instead crossed his right ankle over his left, stretching out his long legs. Y/N scoffed.
“You got what you wanted didn’t you? Proving you’re a better fuck than Bucky.” She didn’t dare attempt to stand and move away from him, knowing that her knees would give out the second she put any weight on them, so instead she refused to meet his eyes, focusing on the view of the ocean her high-rise office permitted her.
Steve’s brow furrowed and he was tempted to fish out another cigarette. “Is that what you thought I came in here for?” Y/N gave him a look that screamed ‘really Rogers?’ in the most condescending way possible. He chuckled, throwing a muscular arm around her shoulders to bring her body against his broad chest.
“I wasn’t aware you thought so low of me, princess.” He resisted the urge to lay a kiss on her temple.
She was quiet for a moment before she spoke so softly, Steve had to strain his ears to hear her. “Then why else did you come here, Steve?” His first name, she called him by his first name for the first time since he has known her.
Hooking a finger under her soft chin, he guided her eyes to his own, much like he had done earlier. Except this time, she could see nothing but admiration and adoration in that striking blue. “I came here for you, princess. I’m not going to lie, thinking about you fucking my best friend fucking sucked and it pissed me off. But I was upset mainly because I couldn’t get my head out of my ass to tell you sooner.”
“Tell me what?” She breathed, unconsciously inching closer to him.
“I would burn worlds for you.”
He watched as her expression softened before her walls came back up and her signature scowl returned. “Oh fuck you Rogers. You can’t just say stuff like that.” She huffed, turning away from him, obviously pouting.
“And why not?” He teased, yanking her back to him.
“How the fuck am I supposed to compete with ‘I would burn worlds for you’?” She dropped her voice down in an obvious if not terrible imitation of him. Steve laughed heartily, planting a loving kiss to the top of her head.
“I can think of a few ways.” He replied cheekily, cupping his growling bulge. Y/N glared at him playfully and slipped off the couch to kneel before him. Her face was coloured with determination as she pulled down the silver zipper and freed his cock from his boxers. “I’m gonna suck the soul outta you.” And she did just that.
