Figuring out when to study
Understanding when you work best comes from figuring out your patterns of energy levels in the day. When are you usually unable to focus? When do you feel most motivated or inspired? Everyone is different so don’t feel like you need to get up at 6am to study if you’re more productive in the evening/night.
Some ideas on how to figure out the best times for you to study:
1. Are you a morning person or night person? How early or late?
2. When do you usually lose motivation? Immediately after school? Late at night?
3. What other commitments do you have that influence energy levels? Do you place a sport? Do you have a job?
4. Are there certain days where you have more time than others? Can you consolidate most of your work to those freer days?
Obviously we can’t always work at our “perfect times” esp when we have other commitments that take up time and energy.
Knowing what times I work best is so helpful to me when trying to do work, esp with everything being online. I know that I’m most productive in the morning/early afternoon. Mid-afternoon I need a break but I can still get some work done and once dinner comes, nothing is getting done after that.
If I can begin work between 10.30am-11.30am, I know I’ll be productive. KnowingI don’t really get work done at night and accepting that means that relaxing at night makes me feel not guilty because I got my work done in the morning/early afternoon.
