#the field trip trope

I'm sorry, but why have we stopped the field trips to the ghost zone tropes? I mean Peter Parker gets to go to Stark tower at least twice a week and we can't chug Danny into the infinite realms at least one a month?
And if it's because there are too many copies of the same story with slight variations, then spice it up. The realms hold an infinite amount of possibilities, hence the name.
Throw in some Amity Park is weird. Do the whole thing from the perspective of a visiting friend or relative that is just so scared and confused because this place is creepy and traumatizing and Danny's class is greeting ghosts like old friends and going around like they've been there before and surrounded by this big toxic green ocean, they look less human.
Do it like a normal field trip, but with some ghostliness. Take the class to clockworks tower or the different dead cultures for a history lesson, invite them to the beach and make it ghostly, take them to the zoo and show us every mythical creature the zone has collected over the years.
Do it with a crossover, make Danny's ghost parents stand there the whole trip and let it change the trope, what about a teachers perspective? And if it's retold to a parent after the fact how would that parent react?
There's a million things to explored that we haven't even touched upon. What are we doing wrong? Why are we wasting all this potential?

⬇ What I've Been Reading Recently! [In No Particular Order]⬇
Rivers and Roads (Rivers Till I Reach You) Series by peterparkersbff @pbpsbff
[Series Description and Notes] Zombie Apocalypse, No Powers AU centered on Peter, Tony, and Rhodey (But if we're being honest, it's pretty Peter-centric)
Updates will likely be posted out of order, but will be reordered so they are in preferred reading order. I'd recommend reading in series order.
Peter Benjamin Stark Series by MoonBoo
[Part 1, Stars Align Summary] Pepper is concerned about Stark Industry's image and organizes a tour for a group of orphans. It's during this tour that Tony meets a five-year-old Peter Parker, who is mute due to the trauma of witnessing Ben and May dying in a robbery, and realizes they're soulmates.
Time Brings All Things to Pass by MsWinifredQuale
Tony feels like he's in a good place right now. He's got a great fiancee, a makeshift but settled little family, and he's even in a fairly ok place with the former Rogues.
So naturally the universe decides to throw him some curve balls, when he gets a call one morning from the police claiming they've just picked up Howard and Maria Stark from the side of the road.
And that's not the only time-related event about to unfold.
Tony really hates time travel.
[Also includes de-aged Peter Parker]
Please obey the signs by Bergen
“This young man claims to have been invited by you personally.” Tony has learned to read Happy’s expressions. That one is disapproval, and it’s highly familiar. “Peter is helping me out in the workshop today.” “Why?” “Uh.” Tony has enough presence of mind not to carelessly throw Peter’s alternative identity around. “He won a competition.” Happy’s expression flickers, grows tense. “I did not approve any competition that included a trip to Avengers Tower.” “Okay. Well. If we had theoretically organized a competition, he would definitely have won it.” - Tony’s life lately has been a perfect storm of incompetence. But perhaps he can get some solid spiritual advice from a mischievous teenager with a secret identity he meets by the side of the road one evening, like a lucky little leprechaun. If only Happy would stop being so paranoid about Tony inviting a random kid into Avengers Tower, sheesh.
The Chill Factor by Tashie
5 Times Peter's thermoregulation caused issues +1 Time Others tried to do something about it.
Broken Thoughts (I Remember Everything) by blackwatchandromeda (avenris)
"Peter, who am I?"
He hesitates. "I'm sorry. I... I don't know."
Peter Parker has been missing for thirty-six days. When Tony Stark finally finds him, he's wandering around New York with no memories, unaware of where and who he is. The missing month is a mystery, and nobody knows what happened to him - least of all the kid himself.
Peter, meanwhile, is trying to piece together who he was. What doesn't help is the big secret he's sure Tony is keeping from him, or the way the man is avoiding him.
Nobody notices how the missing month is catching up to them until everything goes wrong.
(Not Infinity War compliant, but takes place after Civil War.)
When spiders tour their houses, chaos ensues by pirateninja9
"I am very pleased to announce that we’ve been invited for an overnight tour at Stark Industries.”
Join Peter and his Academic decathlon team on a chaotic field trip to the Stark Industries. Featuring a bullying teacher and student, a confused tour guide and many Avengers shenanigans. With luck like his, Peter should have known this would be as far from a normal tour as possible.
Mugs Are A Problem (I Do What I Want) by JAWorley
It’s not usually a problem. Tony doesn’t usually have to work so hard to hide it because Pepper, Happy, and Rhodey know. He can be himself around them. Right after the compound had been built, Tony had been worried about moving in with the Avengers full time… worried they’d notice his tics and figure out his secret. Then Germany had happened and the team had split up before they could fully move into the compound. Tony had had two years where he hadn’t needed to worry about it. Now that the Rogues are back and are living in the tower full time, it’s on his mind again and stressing him out. The problem? Coffee mugs. Well… coffee mugs, and other things and the fact that when he’s stressed out, the tics get worse. But mainly coffee mugs. Coffee mugs are the bane of his existence. OR Tony has Tourette Syndrome and he doesn’t want the Avengers (or Peter) to find out about it. The newly returned Avengers think Tony is just being a jerk when he knocks things off of tables and counters, because they think he’s doing it on purpose. Despite the angsty summary, this is all about the team coming back together and Tony learning that the people in his life can’t accept him as he is until given the chance to know him as he is.

Unoriginal Writing VS Field Trips
A lot of writers worry that their ideas have been done before or rely too much on existing scenarios. And you absolutely do need to be original if you want to write your own book that you intend to publish professionally. But a lot of writers can also take this the other way and start worrying that every single idea they have, no matter how fleshed out and unique it actually is, is just a version of a very broad and generic trope, and so it’s automatically bad and nobody will ever want to read it since it’s all been done before
Let me tell you about what has been dubbed the Peter Parker Field Trip in the fanfic scene
The Peter Parker Field Trip is an incredibly specific type of one-shot fanfiction about Peter Parker visiting Avengers Tower with his class on a school field trip while having to try and hide his status as the Avenger Spider-Man, usually along with hiding the fact that he’s basically been adopted by the Avengers and they all treat each other as family, if not legally having been adopted by Tony. And this is only the summary, it gets way more specific from here to the point where you can follow each story beat by beat and the vast majority of these fics will follow them:
1. Peter discovers that the adults arranged for him to go on the trip despite trying to get out it/telling them not to sign the permission forms. Peter tries to talk his way out of it on the way but fails. Sometimes the teacher will discourage him from lying about having a Stark Internship while they’re there
2. While they’re on the bus Flash teases Peter about how now everyone’s gonna know he doesn’t actually have a Stark Internship, meanwhile Peter’s freaking out about everyone realising he’s more than just an intern
3. The kids arrive at Avengers Tower and pile out of the bus to be greeted by some of not all of the Avengers, usually with Steve and/or Tony leading the introductions. Peter tries to keep his head down but the Avengers either spot him or were actively looking out for him, but at this point they usually don’t acknowledge him too much
4. An actual intern hands out access passes to the kids, everyone has level one clearance except for Peter who has Level Ten Alpha Clearance™️, which is even higher than most of the other Avengers and is reserved for Tony and those closest to him. Peter asks if he can just get a regular pass like the others but the intern says they don’t have any extras, usually while being starstruck at meeting Peter
5. The kids go through a security scanner, through which Jarvis announces their security clearance. Peter has his Level Ten Alpha Clearance™️ broadcast to the entire class, leaving everyone shocked. Flash thinks Peter, resident Poor Kid McOrphanface, bribed Tony Stark, known billionaire, for higher clearance
6. The tour goes ahead. They meet Bruce either in his lab or the medical bay. Bruce has a pleasant chat with Peter, who quickly helps him with something while he’s there. People are shocked that Peter works with Bruce on science stuff
7. The tour goes ahead. They meet Natasha in the training room. She offers to give a demonstration and has Peter come up to fight her. The class are shocked when he doesn’t get instantly thrown on his ass, even though overall it usually ends with him on his ass
8. The tour goes ahead. They meet Thor either on the landing pad as he arrives back home or he’s in the kitchen making an absolute mountain of pop tarts. He’s the one that comes closest to leaking Peter’s Spider-Man identity because he has no social awareness and just wants to wrap the Man of Spiders in a bear hug
9. The class break for lunch. There’s an ungodly amount of coffee machines in the cafeteria. Everyone is talking about Peter. Flash is talking shit. Clint then proceeds to drop out of the vents to ask Peter about either Mario Kart or babysitting his kids, potentially both. Clint then realises the tour was today, apologises and goes back into the vents. Peter can’t even muster up the energy to be embarrassed
10. As the tour continues, Flash is getting more vocal about his dislike for all this. There’s a 50/50 chance he’s going to get physically violent with Peter. If he doesn’t, he’ll ask Tony Stark why he’s let Peter lie about all this stuff only to be told harshly that Peter is Tony’s kid or something similar. The bullying will be discovered and Flash will be kicked out. If he does get violent with Peter, one of the Avengers will stop him, Tony will defend Peter while revealing that Peter is his kid or something similar in the process, then will kick Flash out
I just described to you an ungodly number of fics beat by beat. And people don’t just read one of them and call it a day; we consume each and every one of them despite knowing the exact plot and having read it a gazillion times
And I think that these fics are the most obvious example of the fact that people don’t care about the repeated use of tropes or clichés or plotlines; if they like it, they’ll like it. They’ll be willing to read those tropes a million times over, even if they know what’ll happen at every turn. And that proves that it’s not the use of tropes that matters, it’s the way you use the tropes. Even if it’s just a new way of wording it, people will enjoy it. It doesn’t have to be completely new or original, it just has to be out there

Headcanon (but feel free to use as a prompt): When Peter goes on the inevitable Stark Industries field trip, he gets so flustered when Mr. Stark finds him and his tour group that he activates another previously unknown spider power and literally turns invisible.

Irondad fic ideas #28
It turns out it's not enough to erase Peter from memory; in order to fully stop multiversal collapse, Strange has to remove Peter from reality altogether. To do this, Strange decides to send him to a different reality - one where Peter Parker doesn't exist. With nothing left to lose, Peter agrees to go.
What Strange fails to mention, however, is that this reality doesn't just not have a Peter Parker. It's a reality where Peter Parker has died. Peter thought he'd lost everyone he loves, but he finds himself in a reality where everyone he loves thought they'd lost him.
Bonus: if Peter was the one who did the snap

Hey, I see that you’re on hiatus and I hope you’re doing well! I have 100+ drafts and 60% of them are your prompts LOL. (I haven’t forgotten the Royalty AU ask either!)
Something I will SCREECH to the heavens and back about is: what happened in the 2 years between infinity war and homecoming?
I will take anything at this point but I swear those 2 years could be the goldmine of mentor tony/irondad. I réalisé they probably won’t ever do anything with it, since not everyone was on board with the Stark Legacy!Spiderman idea they were implying and proposing (and the financial expense of RDJ’s contract). Well, the fandom self sustains anyways LOL
Hello! I’m taking a break from my break (lol). Your regular prompting will likely be back at the start of September. I think of a lot of prompts when I should be studying 😅
As for your question the answer is:
ANYTHING YOU WANT!!! All your favorite tropes? They happened. Every. Single. One.
Field trip to Stark Industries? 100%
Tony calls during class? Yep!
Intern!Peter? Definitely
Kidnapped Peter? Why not!
May’s abusive boyfriend? Sure!
I could keep going with every Irondad trope the fandom loves! Although I doubt we’ll ever see anything from Marvel, it’d be nice to have an animated cartoon showing the two years in between. It would have so much potential!

Hello! Thank you so much for doing this! I love your blog!
There is this one field trip fic that I can't find, would you mind helping out?
- it's angsty
- Peter's anxiety keeps climbing up the whole fic
- His teacher accused him of lying (at the lunch break, maybe?)
- The fic may have included a 3 strike protocol (not sure about this one)
- He snaps at Tony in front of his class, because he's stressed
Thank you! ^^
Thank you to those who contributed to our Follower Outreach Program for helping to locate this story!
Definitely Worth It by jennylarner
Peter doesn't want to go on a field trip to Stark Tower. It's a recipe for disaster. His class doesn't believe him, his teacher doesn't believe him. If he makes it through the entire day without being suspended, it'll be a miracle. Unfortunately for Peter, he's never much believed in miracles.
...
“This is a goddamn disaster.” Peter declared miserably. At least he hadn’t thrown up his food.
“Could be worse.” MJ said across from him. Peter lifted up his head.
“Oh yeah, how?”
MJ shrugged. “They could have expelled you instead.”
Peter gaped at her. “Thanks MJ, that’s really helpful. I feel so much better now.”

Alone in the Ghost Zone (with You) - Chapter 1
Summary: Danny wakes up tied up and abandoned in the Ghost Zone with no memory of how he got there, but his quick ideas for an escape are complicated by the presence of Jazz and his parents. With no idea which ghost kidnapped him or even where he is in the Ghost Zone, he has to work with his parents to navigate the perils of the Ghost Zone, but can he escape with his family and secret still intact?
Well, originally this idea was going to be my attempt at writing a longfic for Phic Phight instead of the oneshots I’ve been doing since I came back. I’d planned to submit all 4 of these chapters during Phic Phight but…that clearly didn’t happen. I was lucky to finish this one in time!
I’ve been wanting to do a “field trip to the Ghost Zone” for a long time, and this prompt was the perfect excuse! Please ignore some of my attempts at making the Ghost Zone scientifically make sense (seriously, we know so little about the science behind Ghost Zone it’s awesome and frustrating at the same time). This is my first time actually spending a lot of time in the Ghost Zone, so don’t mind me as I figure out some of my own headcanons about the place as I go!
I hope you enjoy!
Prompt: Danny wakes up on a small floating island in the middle of the Zone. The last thing he remembers is sitting down to eat dinner with his parents and his sister. How did he get here? (PR115) - for @idiot-onion
https://archiveofourown.org/works/38711061/chapters/96789075
Chapter 1: Otherness
Danny’s vision swam sickeningly as soon as he opened his eyes. He shut them immediately, but he could still feel the vertigo mixed with nausea impact even the black behind his eyelids. His head pounded sharply behind his eyebrows and his body felt stiff and unresponsive. What happened? Dinner hadn’t been that bad.
The longer he kept his eyes closed, the better his nausea felt, but he did not like how stiff he felt. Almost like he couldn’t move. He tried to open his eyes again, but everything still spun around him.
No…the world wasn’t spinning, it was swirling. Sickeningly green swirls that shifted and glowed.
Ghost Zone.
He was in the Ghost Zone.
Panic flooded his body because he couldn’t remember going into the Ghost Zone. He had been…wait what had he been doing? Why did his head hurt so much every time he tried to think about what he did right before waking up? He was…dinner. He was eating dinner in his kitchen. So how did he get into the Ghost Zone?
He tried to move, to get a better look at his surroundings, but he could feel something stopping him, trapping him. He could feel the hard chill of metal along his back, and he noticed he was resting in some kind of metal pod. He finally looked down and saw bindings across his chest, arms, abdomen, and legs. He also noticed jeans and a t-shirt, which meant he wasn’t in his ghost form. That made no sense. He wouldn’t have gone into the Ghost Zone in his human form. Something was wrong.
He struggled against the secure bonds, but they held him tight and he could barely budge. He didn’t like this. He remembered eating dinner and now he was tied up into some strange contraption as a human in an unfamiliar part of the Ghost Zone with no memory of how that happened. He still couldn’t think through that fog without a sharp pain behind his eyebrows and a churn of nausea in his gut.
Being a human in the Ghost Zone just felt…wrong. It left him vulnerable and on edge, and he didn’t like it. He could also feel this pull, like the ghostly parts of him knew that he should be a ghost right now. Almost like he didn’t belong as a human in this world, but he could belong as a ghost. He noticed it the few occasions he’d ventured into the Ghost Zone as a human, but for some reason that feeling of ‘otherness’ as a human felt even more pronounced now. Well, no point in staying human, not when his ghost form gave him a better chance to escape and protect himself. He pulled on that strong push to be a ghost, and the bright rings of light formed around his waist.
“Danny!” he heard a voice hiss in warning off to his side. “No.”
He immediately stopped the transformation and the rings disappeared. That voice…it almost sounded like…
“Mom, Dad, are you awake?” the voice - Jazz’s voice - called out in a suspiciously loud timber. Mom and Dad. Oh no.
He craned his neck out of the pod as much as he could to see three other pods to his right. He could barely make out the bright orange spandex of his dad’s jumpsuit. His whole family was here, trapped in the same pods as him. That complicated things. That complicated things a lot. If it was just himself or just himself and Jazz, he could transform and fly them out of there no problem. But trying to get everyone out of the Ghost Zone with his parents here…this was going to be difficult. He’d have to play this very, very safe. Thank god Jazz warned him.
Jack and Maddie groaned as Jazz’s call shook them awake. Jack’s large frame shifted in his pod. “Wha—?” Jack asked, his voice slurred and groggy. “Where’s my dinner?”
“Where-where are we?” Maddie questioned. He could hear his mom’s pod shift and creak as she tried to get a good look around her. “This place doesn’t look like anything I’ve ever seen before. And the air has an odd taste like…like citrus. Almost like–” She gasped loudly. “Are we in the Ghost Zone?!” she shrieked.
“Now now Mads, calm down,” Jack comforted, though Danny could tell it didn’t work well since he could hear his mom struggling to escape. “That’s just silly talk! We all know the Ghost Zone isn’t safe for humans. So we can’t possibly be in the–” His dad stopped talking as all four of them noticed a large serpentine ghost slither through the swirling sky in the distance. “Well, guess we’re in the Ghost Zone.” Jack deadpanned.
Danny could feel the tension emanating from his parents’ direction. He could feel them freaking out without even needing to see them. They had run so many tests on the Ghost Zone through the portal to determine if the place was safe, and despite their curiosity they still couldn’t decide whether it was safe enough to venture inside. What they didn’t know was the portal itself messed with their readings, but it wasn’t like he had ever been able to explain that to them.
“How are we supposed to breathe?” Maddie cried out. “We never confirmed there was oxygen in here!”
“Well we’re talking right now so–” Jack tried to reason, but Maddie cut him off.
“What about radiation? Ecto-contamination? Temperature control and regulation? Hazardous fumes?”
“I don’t know Mads but–”
“Jack, are we ghosts?”
“Hey!” Danny interrupted loudly, which finally stunned his parents into silence. This had gone far enough. If any of them were going to get out of here, he needed his parents to calm down and start thinking clearly. “Can you both stop freaking out for five minutes and realize we all seem to be okay?”
He’d get his parents calmed down, find a way to convince them the Ghost Zone was safe, and then they could start working together to–
“Danny?!” his mom shrieked in alarm. “You’re here too?” She craned her head out of the pod to see the three other pods that held her family. “And Jazz too! Jack, our children are in danger!”
Well, that didn’t turn out the way he’d hoped.
“Kids, are you okay?” Jack asked, and even though he tried to sound strong, Danny could hear worry creep into his voice.
“We’re fine,” Jazz assured them. “I’ve been awake for a few minutes and other than feeling a little groggy I’m fine.”
“Are you sure you’re fine?” Maddie pressed. “Are you feeling any nausea? Headache? Confusion? Burning of your eyes or your throat? Dizziness? Fever - don’t know how you’ll check that one tied up in a pod but–”
“Mom! I need you to pull yourself together!” Danny yelled. His tone was almost a little too demanding, and honestly sounded more like something he would say as Phantom. He’d have to be careful of that. That transition to his Phantom persona was a little too natural, though it probably had something to do with being in the Ghost Zone. “We’re fine. We’re going to be fine. Aside from being full of ghosts, the Ghost Zone is safe for humans.”
“Danny…” Jazz muttered in warning.
“What do you mean the Ghost Zone is safe?” Jack asked. “We’ve never told either of you that.”
“I uh, may have figured it out on my own?” Danny tried. He knew it was safe. He’d done all the necessary checks after Tucker and Sam ended up in the Ghost Zone the first time. He used all his parents’ devices and the Specter Speeder to make sure that it would be safe for Tucker and Sam to return in the future. As far as they could tell with their rising ectology knowledge, the Ghost Zone didn’t pose any greater threat to humans.
“And how is that young man?” Maddie asked sternly.
Danny licked his lips nervously. “Tucker, Sam, and I may…have fallen in here at some point,” he said in a rush as the last few words all blended together. He could almost feel Jazz shake her head with disapproval.
“You what?!” Jack and Maddie cried out in unison.
“It was an accident!” Danny defended.
“And you never told us?” Maddie asked.
“Because we knew we’d be in trouble! But we didn’t do it on purpose!” Danny insisted. And really…the first time it was an accident, so he wasn’t lying all that much. “We were playing around in the Specter Speeder - I know, we’re not supposed to - and then next thing we know something activated and it surged forward into the Ghost Zone. But the speeder got all kinds of data while we were in there - no radiation or contamination or anything hazardous. It’s fine.”
“But…wait, the instruments on the speeder haven’t ever shown any kind of readings,” Jack pointed out.
“Well…I may have had Tucker wipe it so you wouldn’t find out,” Danny admitted as he bit his lip. Actually, they’d saved and wiped the data many times. They amassed a large amount of data on how the Ghost Zone changed (or more accurately, didn’t) over time. His parents would kill for that data…which is exactly what he was afraid of.
“Daniel James Fenton, you are going to be grounded when we get back home!” Maddie threatened, and Danny winced from her tone. “And that’s just to start!”
“Shouldn’t it count for something that I risked being in trouble to tell you this right now?” he tried.
“No,” his parents both said firmly.
“Worth a shot,” Jazz murmured to Danny.
“Well, you can’t ground me while I’m stuck in the Ghost Zone,” Danny quipped. “So, how about you just trust me that it’s safe and instead of panicking about why we’re safe, we figure out how we ended up here and how we get out.” Maybe keeping his mom’s mind on something else would help calm her down. He knew this wasn’t an ideal scenario, but his mom usually had a cooler head than this. He remembered when Vlad orchestrated the plane crash in the mountains, and she leapt to action and knew exactly what to do. Something about being in the Ghost Zone was making her more anxious than usual and it was a bit unsettling.
“No, you’re right,” Maddie sighed. “Whether it’s safe or not doesn’t really matter if we can’t get out of these pods or figure out how to get out. Jack, help me inspect these things we’re trapped in.”
Danny could hear his parents talking about the metal of the pod and any structural weaknesses (he was pretty sure he heard his sister exclaim in disgust that their father licked the metal casing to determine what type of metal it was), but he wasn’t really paying attention. He knew he should be keeping a better focus on his parents, especially when he was a half-ghost pretending to deny the ghostly part of him while he was surrounded by ghosts, but something about the bindings bothered him.
The leather bindings didn’t glow. Why weren’t they glowing? Anything ghost-proofed would glow in the presence of a ghost, and any ghost who orchestrated this would know who he was. These were real-world objects, which meant they were brought here special for them…so why weren’t they built to keep him in? And if he wasn’t trapped in a ghost-proofed prison then… He risked turning his hand intangible and pulled it cleanly through one of the bindings. No shocks. No barriers. No pain. That was…easy. Almost too easy.
He pulled his other hand free and got to work on releasing the other bindings. He traced the leather straps to find a latch on the metal base and unhooked it. They were simple, almost too simple, but they would be impossible to undo without a free hand. He could have phased through all of them, but his parents might see and he needed to make it look like he escaped normally.
He stepped free from his prison and finally got a good look around him. The four pods containing him and his family stood in the middle of a small rock that was barely large enough to hold all of them. He didn’t notice any other indication that this rock belonged in the lair of another ghost and he didn’t get the sense of trespassing he usually did once he strayed into another ghost’s lair. Which meant either they were in an unclaimed part of the Ghost Zone, or he wasn’t trespassing and was actually wanted here…
He looked at the rest of the Ghost Zone behind him as he tried to pinpoint where they were. He’d spent so many hours mapping the Ghost Zone and trying to find familiar monuments and way points so he could navigate the maze that was the Ghost Zone, but nothing here looked familiar. Since he couldn’t recognize anything, he had a couple guesses where they could be, but guesses weren’t helpful right now.
He caught Jazz’s eye and she looked at him in panic. She mouthed something to him, but he couldn’t figure it out. He never learned to lip read! She should know that! “Jazz I don’t know what you’re saying,” he said. Jazz threw her head back against the metal pod in frustration while Jack and Maddie turned to look at their children.
“What? Danny? How did you get free?” Maddie asked, her voice tinged with suspicion and shock.
Oh, that’s what Jazz must have been trying to warn him about. Well, they’d have to find out some time if he was going to get them out. “Oh, they must have gotten lazy when they tied me up,” he lied. God, those lies just came so easy. “Managed to get one hand free.”
“That’s my Danny!” Jack boasted. Jazz just groaned.
He walked over to his mom and unhooked the bindings around her wrists. He could feel her suspicious glare on him and he shuffled his foot nervously as he worked. “That’s pretty convenient,” she said.
Danny shrugged, trying to play it cool. “Well maybe whoever trapped us here wanted us to get out? See what we would do?” he suggested as he moved over to free his dad’s wrists. “Either way, we should take advantage of it.”
“You know, that does sound like something Phantom would do,” Maddie remarked.
Danny rolled his eyes and ignored both his parents as they talked about how the “dastardly and devious Phantom” could absolutely rig this. Instead he moved over to Jazz’s pod and helped release her bindings.
“That was reckless Danny,” Jazz warned in a whisper.
“Yeah, well we had to get out of these somehow, and I didn’t hear the wonder twins over there coming up with any better suggestions,” Danny retorted as he moved down to help Jazz free her feet while she worked on the ones on her chest.
“You’ve got to be careful about showing off while you’re in here with them,” she advised him.
“Showing off?” Danny asked. He looked up at her with a raised eyebrow. That was a weird choice of words.
Jazz groaned. “You know what I mean. Keep your powers and mention of anything you know about the Ghost Zone at a minimum.”
“Uh duh, thank you Captain Obvious,” Danny snapped.
“I’m just trying to help,” Jazz assured him. “I know you’re not used to being a human in the Ghost Zone, and it’s going to be tempting to use your powers or knowledge, but just…be careful in how you do it or Mom and Dad are going to find out.”
Man, even Jazz was picking up on how strange it felt to be stuck as a human in here. Was he just radiating that energy? Would his parents pick up on it? Maybe she was right, maybe he did need to be more careful…
“Would you look at this place…” Maddie breathed as she finally took in her surroundings. Danny thought she would make herself dizzy the way she spun around looking at the swirling mess of the Ghost Zone. “Jack, do you think these clouds are meant to resemble some kind of atmosphere?”
Jack stopped examining the ground and looked up at the clouds as he stroked his chin in thought. “Hmm, looks like. Could be that–”
“It must be why the air tastes like ectoplasm,” Maddie continued, interrupting Jack as soon as he confirmed her hypothesis. A flash of irritation crossed over Jack’s face before he focused on examining the rock beneath them again. “This realm must be full of aerosolized ectoplasm. Maybe it’s suspended in oxygen and/or nitrogen, which is why we can breathe, though why it would need to do that makes no sense because ghosts don’t breathe,” she pondered as she paced across the small rock. “Unless aerosolizing it helps with the ambient absorption of the ectoplasm around them to help rejuvenate and heal them. Jack we need to study this and–”
“And figure out how to get out of here,” Danny snapped. “Look, Mom, I’m sure this is exciting for you and all, but honestly, we don’t care how it works. We just want to get out of here as soon as possible.”
“Danny’s got a point,” Jazz agreed.
Maddie sighed as her shoulders sagged. “You’re right. It was probably just an incorrect theory anyways. But you’re right, we need to focus on getting out of here.”
“Well then, let’s find a way off this rock!” Jack suggested as he pumped a fist into the air.
“Not yet Jack!” Maddie disagreed, and Jack visibly deflated. “We need to see what resources we have first. What does everyone have on them?”
The Fenton family rummaged through their pockets. Danny didn’t really have much to report; he never kept much in his pockets. Of course his real resource wasn’t found in any pocket. His ghost powers could get them out of here in a snap, but that was a resource they unfortunately wouldn’t be able to tap into, not unless he could separate himself from his parents, and that wasn’t going to happen. He had a feeling whatever ghost orchestrated this knew that too, and specifically brought his parents to be a foil to his ghost powers. Well if that was the plan, it was working.
Danny did find his cell phone in his pocket, and while he knew it wouldn’t work in here, it might be able to provide useful context. The internal clock on the phone still worked in the Ghost Zone, which meant that they’d been knocked out for about two hours based on when he knew he sat down to dinner. He unlocked his phone and noticed he was halfway through typing a text to Sam and Tucker when he must have stopped using his phone. Sadly the text didn’t say anything helpful like “It’s Skulker, send help!” or any clues like that. He had been continuing a conversation about the new Doomed DLC when he stopped. But something happened that made him put the phone back into his pocket and not on the table even though his text wasn’t finished. Something tugged at the back of his mind…something caught his attention and he slid his phone into his pocket so he wasn’t distracted or so it was kept safe, but what was it?
“Danny? Do you have something?” Maddie asked, and he shook himself out of his thoughts. “On your phone?”
“Oh, no. Just no service,” he said as he shook the device. “But if time still works the same way, it’s been about two hours since dinner.” He knew it did, but his parents couldn’t know that he knew that it did.
“I have a pen and a notepad,” Jazz offered as she pulled the pink striped mini-notebook from her pocket.
Danny turned to look at her, his face scrunched up in disbelief. “A notebook? Why the hell do you have a notebook in your pocket?”
“Language,” his father warned, but Danny just rolled his eyes.
“You never know when you might need to take notes,” she explained with a satisfied smile.
Danny opened his mouth to argue but his mom cut him off. “Well it looks like most of our weapons are gone. I know we had some on us at dinner because we’d just gotten back from hunting Phantom.” Danny subtly slid his hand to his ribs where he could still feel the tender sting of the ectoblast they grazed him with earlier. “So whoever kidnapped us must have taken them.”
“But they didn’t find this baby!” Jack boasted as he held up the handle of what Danny immediately recognized as the Jack o’ Nine Tails.
“I do not want to know where you hid that,” Danny grimaced.
“Oh grow up Danny,” Jazz groaned.
“They didn’t grab this one either,” Maddie commented as she held up the handle of her double-bladed ecto-sword. “I had it on my belt under a ghost-proof latch, which confirms a ghost took us.”
“So we have two ghost weapons (one more useful than another), a notepad and pen, and a useless phone?” Jazz summarized. “And no food or water? That’s not much to go on.”
“And our knowledge of ghosts!” Jack offered.
“That’s still not much to go on,” Jazz said, and Jack’s shoulders sagged slightly. “Alright, let’s take a closer look at those weapons.”
While Jazz convened with her parents to inspect some of the inner workings of the weapons, Danny walked to the edge of the small rock they found themselves trapped on and studied the Ghost Zone around them. Being around ghost weapons didn’t seem like that great of an idea, and he really didn’t want to hear his dad lament at Jazz’s suggestion to deconstruct the Jack o’ Nine Tails. He still couldn’t get a good read on where he was in the Ghost Zone and it made him uneasy. What new ghostly threat could be around the corner? Were they invading another ghost’s lair? Would a ghost he knew come around at any moment and talk to him like they were so used to doing and blow his cover? He felt so raw and exposed and he hated it. They needed to get out.
He surveyed the area around them, but unfortunately he couldn’t really see any clear paths to the nearest rock. But if he looked in the distance, he could see almost a trail of rocks leading to a larger platform. It was probably a trap. It was definitely a trap. But it was really their only option, if they could just figure out how to close the gap to that next closest rock.
“I wouldn’t take that apart just yet,” Danny interrupted and they all looked at him curiously.
“Finally seeing the uses of the Jack o’ Nine Tails as an effective ghost hunting invention?” Jack asked as he puffed out his chest.
“Uh…not quite,” Danny replied. “How long is the range on that thing?”
Jack screwed up his face in thought. “Never really tested the range now that I think about it. I supercoiled as much extendable rope into this baby as I could so it could keep going and going and going until it reached the next closest ghostly object.”
Danny pointed to the rock he spotted in the distance. “Like that rock? You said everything in here is made up of ectoplasm, so that rock should be too, right? So if we had something to transport us in, could that thing carry us to that platform?”
Jack tapped his chin in thought while Maddie looked up as if she was trying to do the necessary calculations and equations in her head to make the idea work. Jazz however shot Danny a warning look and he knew why - he was ‘showing off’ again and attracting attention to his knowledge of the Ghost Zone. He understood her concern, but someone had to get them off this rock.
“You know, if we use the containment pods we might be able to fashion them together into a makeshift transport,” Maddie mused. “We could try to attach the Jack o’ Nine Tails onto it and see if it will pull us to that platform. I’m not sure if it’ll work, but it's worth a shot. Jack, come help me break these down.”
Danny stepped to the side to give his parents space to work. He didn’t know how they were going to take apart the pods, especially without any tools, but when his dad pulled out a wallet-sized toolkit from some deep recesses in his jumpsuit (seriously, where was he hiding all of that?) their job looked to be a little easier.
Jazz joined Danny over near the ledge, shaking her head as Maddie reprimanded Jack for not listing the toolkit amongst their assets earlier.
“How are you holding up?” she asked Danny in a hushed voice.
He hiked an eyebrow in her direction. “Shouldn’t I be asking you that? I’m used to being in here, but you’re not.”
“Used to being here when you have your powers,” she pointed out. “It’s different now.”
“I still have them,” he bristled. “I just…have to be careful how I use them.”
Jazz shook her head. “Danny, I know it’s going to be tempting to use them, but for your own safety I’d recommend not even trying it. It’s not like it is at home: Mom and Dad are on edge and they’re going to notice things.”
“You don’t think I’m on edge?” he snapped. “Almost everything in here can react to me, so I think I’m just as alert and aware as they are. Don’t worry Jazz, I’m being careful.”
“You are?” Jazz asked as she gestured towards their mother. She had moved on to his pod and closely inspected the bindings that had been around his wrists…bindings that were still tightly latched after he intangibly slid his way through them. Maddie looked over towards him and he purposefully avoided her gaze, but he could feel the suspicion in her piercing stare before she looked back at the pod. Darn it…he’d forgotten to undo those straps. He’d thought about it, but he just got distracted by other things.
“You were saying?” Jazz asked quietly.
Danny ground his teeth as his sister just rubbed it in further. “Okay fine, that was a mistake, and of course you noticed it just when I was assuring you that I’m being careful, but it’s not like they can use it to prove anything.”
“I’m just worried about you Danny,” Jazz told him as she placed a hand on his shoulder.
“I know, and I appreciate it, but I’ll be fine. I’ve got this. Mom and I were kidnapped by Vlad and I managed to keep anything ghostly out of her notice, remember? I’ve got this,” he assured her.
“Pretty sure that was more luck than skill,” Jazz teased. Danny could tell she was trying to lighten the mood, but given their predicament it didn’t really work. They fell silent for a few moments as they stared off in the distance. “Do you have any idea where we are?”
“No,” Danny sighed. He pulled out his phone and clicked on the app Tucker developed. It was Tucker’s pride and joy: an interactive map of the Ghost Zone that didn’t require internet to use. The whole app was a Team Phantom effort: Danny scouted it out and took pictures, Sam helped triangulate everything and keep it all to scale, and Tucker programmed everything. The app was a huge resource, but it was far from complete. “The Ghost Zone is huge Jazz. We’ve flown for hours in the Specter Speeder and there doesn’t seem to be an end to it. I doubt we’ve even covered a fraction of it.”
“But you said we’ve been asleep for two hours, so we can’t be that far from the portal,” Jazz offered.
“Right. So based on that, and the way the clouds are swirling, I’m thinking we’re somewhere in this dark zone here,” Danny mentioned as he pointed to a black zone on the app.
“The way the clouds are swirling?” Jazz asked as she raised an eyebrow.
Danny sighed. “Look, I spend a lot of time in here, okay? Just trust me on this. So if this is the Ghost Zone equivalent of North - and no, don’t ask me how I know that, I just do - then taking this path should take us closer to Skulker’s lair and I know how to get home from there.”
“What are you two talking about?” Maddie asked from behind them.
Danny quickly stashed his phone in his pocket as they both turned around to face her. “Oh, just thinking about where that path might lead,” Jazz lied smoothly.
“Well hopefully closer to the portal,” Maddie said. “We’re almost done, if you want to help us hold some of the metal plates together.”
Jazz and Danny nodded and joined their parents around the pieces that would become their makeshift transport between the rocks of the Ghost Zone. While the worked, Danny could feel his mom’s eyes on him, and he tried to ignore it, but he could feel his skin crawling with anxiety. Did his mom feel like something was different about him in here? He rarely ventured into the Ghost Zone as a human, so he actually had no idea if some of his more ghostly features became more pronounced surrounded by so much ectoplasm. He found himself checking his skin to make sure it wasn’t glowing, or catching Jazz’s eyes to see if she would notice any glow or color change. So far he didn’t notice any physical changes, but something felt different with how he interacted with his parents, he just couldn’t put his finger on what it was. It set him even more on edge and gave him one more thing he’d have to pay attention to while they were stuck here.
They worked quietly, each person focused on the task at hand, and together the four Fentons worked to turn their former prisons into something that could hopefully help them escape the solitary rock they found themselves stranded on.

A Peter Parker Field Trip Checklist
still working on the heartstopper dissertation but in the mean time,, ive been binging "midtown take a field trip to SI" fics based on Tom Hollands Parker (I am not up to date on the mcu and am coping by reading ok shush) THE REQUIREMENTS
Mr Harrington as the chaperone (or one of)
Flash bullying Peter before the trip about his 'fake' internship
Some form of ID card hierarchy (not always explained fully)
With Peter having all access to the tower with his ID
Flash accusing Peter of bribing, fucking, or hacking his way into the tower to get the totally fake all access card
Flash asking stupid questions e.g 'does SI hire teenagers/highschoolers' or 'who's the youngest intern you've hired' and the tour leader either being confused art high school intern, or saying 'no normally we don't but Peter Parker is a special case :)'
MJ drawing in her 'people in crisis' book
Friday announcing everyone as they scan through security, recognising Peter, possibly Ned and a 10% chance of recognising MJ
A trip to the intern labs, so Peter can either be bullied more or shock the class by actually knowing what he's doing
BONUS POINTS
The avengers are there in some capacity
It's not the entirety of Midtown, its just the AcaDec team
Mr Harrington also believes Peter is faking the internship
They tour the avengers compound instead of the tower
May telling Tony and/or Pepper about the trip so they can suitably embarrass Peter and/or hyping him up in front of his classmates
Peter calling Tony dad
Flash trying to physically fight Peter and getting restrained and/or retaliated against by someone other than Peter
The Spiderman reveal, of course
Peter staying at the tower after the trip
Some kind of internship competition where they build stuff for a chance at an internship etc
Theres way more key tropes to this niche genre of fics but this is LITERALLY just off the top of my head lol

Because even I am not exempt from the field trip trope.
Name: Forgotten Field Trip
Description: Shuri and T'Challa are visiting Avengers' Tower over her birthday, and Peter wants everything to be perfect for their lab day - except he forgot that there was a field trip some of his classmates were going to be on that day. What could go wrong?

Web of Secrets - Miguel O'Hara
Tumblr media
Miguel O'Hara x SpiderSun Reader
words: 3.7K
warnings: secret pregnancy trope, swearing, angst, heartbreak, grumpy/sunshine, smut
Part I Part II Part III Part IV
In your universe, you are known as the Sun Spider. It all started on a school field trip to a solar energy research center, where you were accidentally exposed to a spider that had been subjected to intense solar radiation. You woke up with a white-hot surge of power, and your life changed forever. You donned a suit of pure white, taking the name that reflected both your newfound abilities and the brightness you brought into the world: Spider-Sun.
Your ability to harness solar energy and transform it into powerful blasts or create protective shields made you a formidable superhero in your home city, Nea Yorkey. Your ability to bring light to even the darkest corners of your city earned you the love of its citizens.
However, everything changed when you were suddenly pulled into the Spider-Verse.
Upon arriving, you were greeted by the gruff leader of this interdimensional team of Spider-People, Miguel O'Hara. His reputation preceded him - the genius intellect, the imposing figure, the gruff demeanor. Everyone respected him, and some even feared him. You, on the other hand, were drawn to him. There was something about that guarded demeanor that called to your own sunny nature.
You became an integral part of the team, fighting off anomalies and working hard to maintain the balance in the Spider-Verse. And despite Miguel's stern exterior, you felt yourself falling for him.
One mission was particularly rough, and you found yourself alone with Miguel in a safe house, nursing your wounds. His usually stern face softened as he tended to your injuries. The distance that he usually maintained was nowhere to be seen.
"Thank you, Miguel," you whispered.
He looked at you, his usually hard eyes soft. "You fought well, mi sol."
There was a moment of silence, a strange tension hanging in the air. Then, Miguel leaned in, capturing your lips in a kiss that was filled with unexpected passion.
In that moment, you were not the Sun Spider, and he was not the Spider-Man 2099. You were just two people, seeking solace in each other.
Afterwards, as you laid side by side, Miguel turned to you, a serious look on his face. "This...this can't be more than what it is. Just...you know, stress relief," he muttered, his voice just above a whisper.
His words wounded you. Naturally, they did. He had reduced your relationship to mere stress relief, as if you were some object devoid of feelings. Yet, in spite of it all, you fell for him. Perhaps you were naive, even foolish, but you didn't care. You yearned for him and were ready to accept any fraction of affection he was willing to offer, no matter how small.
During the day, as you fought alongside him against the anomalies threatening the Spider-Verse, his attention toward you was sparse. He mostly shared only necessary information, barely making eye contact. Sometimes he didn't speak at all, and you and the rest of the team would receive mission orders and briefings from Lyla, his AI assistant.
But at night, when the two of you were alone, he became a different person. He'd whisper praises into your ear, telling you how exceptionally you fought, how much he desired you. He showed you his hidden vulnerability under the cover of darkness, the sheets their only witness. He'd gently stroke your hair and peppered your jaw and temple with kisses until you fell asleep, only for you to wake up the next morning to an empty, cold spot where he once lay.
This cycle - his coldness by day, and the fervor by night - repeated itself relentlessly for months.
And so, this is how you find yourself: disoriented, frenzied, and on the verge of tears, seated on the couch of your best friend, Peter B. Parker, in Earth-616. Cradled in your arms is his sweet daughter, Mayday, who, with her innocent touch, tries to console you. Yet her wide eyes dart anxiously to her father, reflecting her own alarm at your distress.
Peter rubs his chin thoughtfully. "Maybe we should wait until MJ gets home?" he suggests, then, with a furrowed brow, he asks, “Have you tried talking to Jess about this?”
You shake your head vigorously. "No, I haven't told anyone. I have no idea what to do," you confess, your voice breaking.
Peter, ever the caring friend, gently takes Mayday from your arms and sets her down. He turns back to face you with a sympathetic gaze. “Do you..eh.. know who the father is?” he inquires softly.
You shake your head again, even though deep down, you know the truth. “The father is out of the picture. He doesn’t know, and he never will because he doesn’t want kids,” you whisper, fighting back tears.
As you and Peter sit down on the couch in his cozy living room, you find a sense of comfort being around him. His experience as both a superhero and a parent seems like it could be a beacon in this storm you're facing. The room is quiet, save for the soft ticking of a clock on the wall.
“You know, Peter,” you begin, your voice almost a whisper. “I’m terrified. What if the baby has powers? How am I going to protect them, especially if...if I can’t stop fighting anomalies?”
Peter looks thoughtful. “That’s a valid concern. First, you should know that you don’t have to do this alone. There’s a whole community of us, and we stick together. If the child does have powers, she or he will be badass like Mayday, right?”
You nod slowly but then anxieties pile on top of each other in your mind. “But... how can I hide this? Nobody and I mean nobody is supposed to know that I’m pregnant. Especially not...” You trail off, not finishing the sentence.
Peter rubs his chin, deep in thought. “We could look into modifying your suit, maybe talk to some tech geniuses in the Spider-Verse about creating something that can shield or conceal the pregnancy.”
You roll your eyes. “That kinda defies the ‘nobody is allowed to know ‘ordeal, Peter. You have to promise me that this stays between us.”
“I promise,” Peter says sincerely.
Silence fills the room again, and then you voice another fear. “Peter, what if...what if I’m not a good mother? What if I mess this up?”
Peter smiles warmly. “You know, I had those same fears when Mayday was born. I think it’s normal for any parent. But, take it from me, the fact that you’re worried about being a good parent means you’re already on the right track. You’ve got a good heart. Trust it.”
You look down at your hands, fingers interlaced. “Thank you, Peter. I don’t know what I would do without you.”
“You’ll never have to find out,” he says with a reassuring smile. “We’re family, in this weird, Spider-Verse kind of way. But maybe… and I am sayig this as a father myself… reconsider telling the father. I can’t imagine any guy wanting to give up this.” He says, pointing to his precious daughter playing with a napkin she found on the floor.
"Maybe you should reconsider telling the father," Peter's words are echoing in your mind like a haunting melody. A part of you yearns for that possibility. Perhaps you're not alone in this. Maybe, just maybe, Miguel wants this as much as you do.With newfound resolve, you set off for the Spider-Verse headquarters, expecting to find Miguel tucked away in his office, immersed in maintaining the spider verse or as he calls it "arachno- something-multiverse-thingy” or something similar to that.
Upon reaching his office door, you pound on it sharply. No response. Frowning, you knock again, a little harder this time. When silence continues to greet you, you slowly turn the doorknob and peek inside. There he is, hunched over his desk, lost in a world of numbers and codes.
"Miguel, I-" you start, but his sharp voice cuts you off.
"No," he interrupts, his tone cold. "Did I say you can come in? Dios mio, why are you always so damn clingy?"
His words hit you like a punch to the gut. You stare at him, taken aback by his blatant disregard for your feelings. You can feel the beginnings of tears prick at the corner of your eyes, but you will them away.
He doesn't mean it, he doesn't mean it like that. This mantra plays over and over in your head, like a broken record. You take a deep breath, forcing down the hurt his words cause.
"Look, Miguel," you begin, struggling to keep your voice steady. "There’s something we need to talk about, and I think it's important for you to listen to me."
“Fucking hell, woman! What exactly don’t you understand. I’m busy. I don’t care about your little problems, right now.” he barks, not even looking up.
“Miguel,” you speak up, forcing the words out through clenched teeth, “ I’ve never asked anything from you. Not once have did I ask you to stay, to feel the same I feel, to fucking talk to me when people are around. Please all I am asking you is to just ... listen to me, fpr once.” Your voice grows stronger as you speak, a determined fire igniting within you.
Miguel finally looks up, his eyes meeting yours. For a moment, he seems taken aback by the resolve he saw there.
He rubs his temples. “Can we do this later?”
“No!” you shout. “It’s always later with you. You’re like...like a ghost. Just a figure in the hallway. I don’t need a figure, I need a person! I need someone who listens when...”
He glares at you, his eyes narrowing. “Okay, okay I will listen just not now. Whatever it is, it can wait.”
“No, it can’t,” you retort, your voice shaking a bit. “Why is it that every time I try to talk to you, you just brush me off? Am I that insignificant to you?”
He stands up abruptly, the chair skidding behind him. “This? This is what you want to talk about?” he says with a tone of annoyance. “Look, I have a million things to deal with and-”
“And what? And I’m not one of them? Just five minutes, Miguel! That’s all I ask!”
The room is tense. Your heart is racing. His eyes are fiery. It's a standoff.
“And what is so important that you have to disrupt everything right now?” he challenges.
Your breath catches in your throat. This is it. You're about to say it.
“I...” you stammer. “I need to tell you that...”
Suddenly, the door to the office swings open and Jess storms in.
“Miguel, we have a major issue in Sector 12! The anomalies...” she starts, then catches sight of your tear-streaked face. “Oh, am I interrupting something?”
Miguel seems to shake off the tension and slips back into commander mode. “No nothing important. What’s happening in Sector 12?”
You can't believe it. Just like that, he turns away. It feels like your heart is being squeezed.
Jess starts rattling off data and scenarios. The two of them are talking, but you don’t hear it anymore. All you can think of is how you almost told him. How you just wanted five minutes.
Your hands shake and you quietly step out of the room. The door closes behind you, and it feels like a chapter that you can’t read has been sealed away.
Tumblr media
The next day you are on Earth-8311, an anthropomorphic animal-dominated universe. It's the home of Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham, and you can't help but find it amusing.
The mission: to transport an anomaly, which resembles an enormous floating jellyfish, back to its home universe. It's been pure chaos here, and you are determined to set things right.
The team: Gwen, Hobie, and Peter B. Parker. You're all in your suits, eyes sharp, and webs at the ready.
"Alright, Spiders. Let's round this jelly up and send it home," Peter B. Parker takes charge, shooting a web towards a nearby building.
You swing alongside him, your thoughts a whirlwind. The world around you blurs - the animal citizens, the bustling cityscape, the strange yet familiar surroundings.
The anomaly appears before you, thrashing and pulsating as it floats through the sky. It releases blasts of energy that ripple through the air.
"Watch out, Sunny!" Gwen calls out as she dodges a blast.
You, however, are a split second too late. Your reflexes are off, your movements sluggish. The blast sends you spiraling towards the ground.
Hobie swings in and catches you mid-air, his guitar strapped on his back. “Get it together, Sun!” he shouts over the noise, his punk-styled hair waving wildly.
You shake off your daze and look up to see Peter B. Parker shooting webs to pull the anomaly back down, while Gwen is deploying a device to open a portal back to its home universe.
Your heart races as you focus on the task at hand. You need to get this right, not just for yourself, but for the life you’re now carrying. Your suit seems to glow even brighter in the chaos.
With a final combined effort, you manage to lasso the anomaly and push it through the portal. The anomaly disappears, and the portal closes behind it.
The team regroups on a rooftop. Gwen is catching her breath, Hobie is tuning his guitar, and Peter B. Parker gives you a concerned look.
“Are you okay?” Gwen asks, her voice laced with worry. “You weren’t yourself up there.”
The weight of the secret you’re carrying feels unbearable. But you're not ready to share it.
“Promise me you won’t tell Miguel about this,” you say, your voice barely audible.
Gwen raises an eyebrow, while Hobie crosses his arms. Peter B. Parker simply nods.
“Nah, Bossman doesn’t need to know about this,” Hobie says, and there’s a firmness in his voice that is strangely comforting.
Back in the HQ, your head spins, and your stomach feels like it's doing somersaults. You mumble a quick excuse about feeling nauseous and practically sprint to the nearest restroom.
Meanwhile, Gwen, Hobie, and Peter B. Parker head to the cafeteria to grab something to eat.
As they sit down at a table with their trays, Gwen breaks the silence. “Is it okay if I say that this mission was kind of easy? Like, I’ve seen Sunny take down Doc Ock from Earth-818, and she did that without any problem. So what was that today?” Gwen’s concern is apparent.
Hobie, munching on a sandwich, nods in agreement. "Yeah, it's like her spidey senses were jammed or somethin'. Never seen her like that before."
Peter B. Parker looks thoughtfully at his sandwich, then glances up at Gwen and Hobie. He’s torn, having promised you to keep your secret but also wanting your friends to understand why you were off your game.
"You guys remember when she fought Morlun on Earth-001? She was a totally smashin’ it, and today, she nearly got turned into spider-paste by a floating jellyfish. That ain’t right," Hobie adds.
Gwen’s eyes suddenly widen. "Oh my God! Do you think she’s in trouble? Like, something from her universe? Or maybe she's having an identity crisis! Should we stage an intervention?"
Peter B. Parker clears his throat. “Maybe she’s just having an off day.”
Gwen’s eyes narrow as she scrutinizes Peter. “You know something, don’t you?”
Peter scratches the back of his head, obviously uncomfortable. “Nope, no idea.”
Hobie puts down his sandwich and leans in. "Oi, mate. Spill your guts. There's something dodgy going on. She's always been our burst of sunshine, lifting the mood. But now she's... dimmed. What's going on with our Sunny, Parker?"
Before Peter B. Parker could answer Gwen’s barrage of questions, Jess - Spider-Woman - appears, her belly showing. She takes a seat at the table and, oblivious to the serious conversation that was taking place, asks them about their latest mission.
"So, how did your mission go?" Jessica asks, while munching on her Burger.
"Nothing to report, Jess," Gwen answers, a little too quickly, her face all sunshine and false smiles. Peter simply nod in agreement.
“Yah, all good!” Hobie chimes in, flashing a grin that seems a little too bright.
“How about you? How are you holding up?” Peter asks Jess, trying to steer the conversation away from the mission.
Jessica shrugs, not overly concerned, and bites into her burger. "'M good. You know,  I'm so glad I can finally eat a burger again. At the beginning of my pregnancy, practically every food made me nauseous, especially after swinging around on missions.”
Suddenly, there's a moment of collective realization among Gwen, Hobie. It’s as if their spider senses are tingling in unison. They exchange knowing looks, all of them silently putting the pieces together.
Gwen’s eyes are wide, Hobie’s eyebrows are raised, and they both turn to look at Peter, who simply nods.
Jess, noticing the silent exchange, squints at them. “What is up with you guys? You’re acting weird. Well, weirder than usual.”
“Uh, nothin’!” Hobie says, a little too quickly.
“Yeah, just tired from the mission,” Gwen adds, trying to play it cool.
Jess rolls her eyes and stands up. “Alright, weirdos. I’m gonna go find some normal people to talk to,” she says jokingly and walks away.
After she leaves, the trio leans in.
“Sunny’s pregnant, isn’t she?” Gwen whispers.
Hobie's eyes are as wide as saucers. “That would explain everything!”
Peter B. Parker nods. “We need to be there for her, but remember, it’s her news to share when she’s ready.”
They make a pact to support you without pushing you to reveal anything before you're ready.
As you walk back into the cafeteria, you find your friends huddled together. They break apart when they see you and welcome you back with smiles and light conversation, but something in their demeanor is different but you can’t put your finger on it. They are being more attentive, considerate, and frankly, a little too curious about your well-being.
"Are you sure you're okay, Sunny?" Gwen asks for the third time since you sat down. Her concern is genuine, but her intensity is slightly off-putting.
"Yeah, do you need anything?" Hobie offers, his eyes gleaming with unspoken curiosity. "Food, drink, or maybe... pickles?" Pickles? Thats oddly specific.
There's a burst of laughter from Gwen, and even Peter is suppressing a chuckle.
"What's up with the pickles?" You ask, looking at them suspiciously.
"Oh, nothing!" Gwen says, a little too quickly, trying to hold back her laughter.
"Hmm, pickles and ice cream, a weird combo, innit?" Hobie wonders aloud, a mischievous grin spreading across his face.
Again, there's suppressed laughter, and you look at each of them, a realization slowly dawning on you. You turn to Peter, your gaze steady and serious. "You told them, didn't you?" Peter looks shocked, but quickly composes himself. "I didn't exactly tell them, per se," he confesses, "I might've confirmed their suspicions when they asked, but they figured it out on their own. Spider senses and all that jazz.”
Before you could respond, Gwen and Hobie jump in, both talking over each other in an attempt to apologize.
"We're sorry, Sunny," Gwen says sincerely. "We didn't mean to invade your privacy, it's just that... we're worried about you. Please don’t be mad."
Hobie nods, adding, "And we're right behind ya, whatever comes our way. We've got your back, no doubt about it."
You are happy, while the situation isn't ideal, but at least you're not alone. You have friends who care about you and, despite their unconventional way of showing it, they are there for you. You smile, comforted by their concern, and grateful for their support.
"Yeah," you finally say, "I guess we’re gonna need a lot more pickles and ice cream around here, huh?"
“Sooo...who’s the dad? Is he hot?” Gwen, leaning on the table with her elbows, asks shyly after a while.
You let out a long sigh, “He’s very hot... but also a colossal jerk.”
Peter raises an eyebrow. “You took my advice and talked to him then?”
You shake your head, your eyes starting to well up. “No, I tried. But he wouldn’t listen to me. He was busy, and I guess I wasn’t important enough. So, the baby won’t be either,” you say, your voice barely above a whisper.
Hobie's eyes narrow, and his face is flushed with anger. "Who's this bloke, eh? I swear on me nan's grave, I'll give him a right proper earful! No one treats our Sunny like a tosser and gets away with it!"
Gwen jumps in, her eyes wide with speculation, “Wait, is he a Spider? Is it Peter? Or the other Peter? Or—”
“Guys, guys!” you cut them off, your voice cracking. “Please, it doesn’t matter. He made it clear where I stand, and it’s not with him.”
There’s a silence that settles over the table as your friends look at each other and then back to you. Their faces are a mix of concern, sadness, and frustration.
Peter B. is the first to break the silence. “You don’t have to go through this alone. You’ve got us. If the dad doesn’t want to step up, then he’s missing out on something amazing.”
Gwen nods, her eyes firm with resolve. “Yeah, we’re family. We’ve got your back, no matter what.”
Hobie, still fuming, finally calms down enough to say, "All you gotta do is whistle, love, and we'll be there in a blink. Even if it means thumping some manners into this mystery idiot."
You can't help but crack a small smile, despite the tears. You’re overwhelmed by the love and support your friends are giving you.
“Thanks, guys. You don't know how much this means to me.”
They all reach out and there’s a group hug right in the middle of the cafeteria. You didn’t know how much you needed this until it happened.

Irondad fic ideas #6
We all know the field trip trope. This time, it's the last day of school and Peter thinks he's home free, about to spend the summer at the tower. --- Unfortunately for Peter, Stark Industries also does summer camps.
