"hi, kid whose name we don't know yet!" marlene adjusted the camera, her whole face suddenly appearing on the little screen. "i'm marlene, and i am your godmother." her eyes were rimmed with eyeliner, her lips curled in a smile. "this is sirius," she said, pointing to the previously mentioned, who grabbed it from her.

"and i am sirius, your godfather. we're not together, though; you'll learn that when you're born." sirius laughed, holding the camera slightly too close to his face. "speaking of which, this is dorcas, marlene's girlfriend."

"oi!" dorcas smiled, nodding to the camera. "hi, kid. this one right next to me is remus. say hi, dude." remus waved, looking sickly.

"and you'll meet peter, too, but right now, he's off on a mission. but wait, there's more," sirius whispered, making his way to what appeared to be the kitchen. "your parents are in the kitchen. and you're in your mother, which means you're in the kitchen, too." he stepped in, looking like he was waving to the two. "hi james, future daddy!"

the man, warm smiles, unruly curls and askew glasses, waved enthusiastically to the camera. "hi kid!" he exclaimed, slinging an arm around his very pregnant wife's shoulders.

"hey, sweetheart," lily said, pressing a kiss to her husband's cheeks. "we're waiting for you, you're supposed to arrive in about two weeks. we can't wait to show you all of this, the memories and the moments we've put together for you."

in that moment, the future did not exist. it was just their past, already gone, and their present, recorded for a son they hadn't been bound to love.
