I have come to the conclusion that there is a very very large overlap in the people who assume that Astarion is "secretly uncomfortable" with a polyam relationship with Halsin and people who a) have zero social awareness, or b) are polyphobic, or c) both. Astarion is not uncomfortable with polyamory, he is uncomfortable participating in sex. Those are two very different things. Astarion is insecure about his ability to be a 'fulfilling' partner to Tav due to his aversion to sex, and that is a perfectly natural fear almost everyone who's ever been repulsed by or reluctant to participate in sex can attest to. My fellow Ace and/or sex repulsed people you should know well how scary it can be to not feel sure that your partner is satisfied. Astarion at no point sounds sad about the proposal, with the exception when specifically asking if it's because he hasn't been putting out enough recently (Note, Astarion and Tav would not have had sex at this point for a wee while), and if Tav reassures him that he is special to them just the way he is, he is genuinely happy.

"But he doesn't enjoy having sex with the Drow twins." My dear sweet child, he explicitly says he's not ready for that yet. At no point does he pretend to be okay with it only to secretly not be. He clearly and firmly says he is not okay with it, and you only get the narration about him seeming empty if you pressure him into it. This does not happen with Halsin. I repeat. This does not happen with Halsin! Astarion never, I repeat NEVER says anything akin to "not being sure" or "I don't know", or "I'm not ready for this" in regards to Halsin's proposition, while he CLEARLY says that about the Drow twins.

Why, you may then ask, is he uncomfortable with the Drow twins but not Halsin? Well, for one, the Drow twins are sex workers. And while in this house we 100% respect love and support all sex workers, they were unfortunately likely targets during his thrall days, and they almost certainly open up some wounds he's not ready to explore yet. Secondly, with the Drow twins he is pressured to participate. Again, Astarion is uncomfortable participating in sex, not with polyamory as a whole. Astarion would be uncomfortable being pressured into basic vanilla christian one on one sex with Tav just as much as he would be uncomfortable being pressured into sex with the Drow twins. That has nothing to do with polyamory. He would not be and is not uncomfortable with Tav having sex with, kissing or flirting with Halsin, as long as he is at no point forced to or pressured to physically participate himself.

Consider why every other character who is against a relationship with Halsin explicitly says so (for those of you who compare Astarion to Karlach, Karlach does explicitly say she is against it.) Consider how every single time Astarion is against something, with the exception of some events in Act 1, he explicitly says so. Consider how Astarion literally does bring up something that concerns him in that very conversation, and clearly states his concerns regarding his own sexual availability, but at no point even hints at being uncomfortable with Tav's romantic/sexual interests. And perhaps consider why you are so intent on having characters be "secretly against polyamory".

Because I will die on the hill that Astarion is a sex repulsed polyam sexual (possibly mono-romantic) pan gremlin of a man. edit to clarify: This post is about people who are insistent on that assumption, as in, refuse to accept that they may be mistaken, or that their assumption is exactly that, an assumption with no direct proof to support it. I don't mind people who headcanon, you live your life I'll live mine, I mind people who assume he's secretly against it, and then state that as fact and canon when it simply isn't, it's a headcanon, an assumption, a plot you would like to believe, NOT something established by direct canon evidence. If you prefer to read him as uncomfortable, that's fine and none of my business. If you prefer to read him as secretly strictly monogamous and either too insecure to speak up or doesn't realize it himself, that's fine and none of my business. Hell, if you draw fanart about it and write a whole ass 100 million word fanfic creating a whole new alternate universe which becomes more popular than the game itself, it's still fine and none of my business. But the second you speak your opinion and assert that it's fact, I have just as much a right to speak my opinion and tell you you're wrong.

Some time ago I said I would make a post about my opinion on various of the kuro characters' stance on the LGBTQA+ community so here It comes i guess. Gonna be a pretty long post I suppose.

Starting off with what may be a hot take: o!Ciel ain't homophobic or transphobic or anything. Yana may write him like that, but I feel like that's her problem and not his. It makes basically no sense with his character. He's just a dude trying to live his life and he canonically doesn't judge people for going against what society thinks should be the "norm" (His speech defending Snake in the Campania arc, to name one instance). He HIMSELF doesn't really follow the "norm" of a noble of that time period (Treats his human servants (so not Sebastian) like actual human beings and even family, doesn't seem to go to church or leave his house for fun much, hates socializing and going to parties). I personally even read him as aroace!

Plus he canonically read (or was at least knowledgeable about) Carmilla, wich I never read but from what I hear was gay Dracula before Dracula was invented.

That said, in modern era he WOULD make gay funtom merchandise for pride month only for the profit and not to stand by the gays. Not because he's homophobic, he just doesn't care about being so public in his support for the community if not for that sweet, sweet money. Tiny capitalist child. Awful little man.

Now, if you want to blame a Phantomhive for being homophobic...that's R!Ciel. An actually alive, not bizarre doll R!Ciel could be convinced of the LGBTQA+ community not being bad IF (and only if) his brother was a part of it and o!Ciel slowly educated him on what not to say or think. Like not even the knowledge that his father is the most bisexual person alive would convince him, he'd just live in denial. But we know that o!Ciel is sacred for him. "If brother says this, then it's the truth."

Bizarre doll R!Ciel is like those mums that go "I'm fine with gay people I just think that [insert extremely homophobic statement here]". He also says stuff like "The A in the LGBTQA+ community stands for Ally :)"

Lizzie is very nice and openly supportive, but WILL get sometimes flustered in front of two gay people being gay. She will also sometimes stumble and say something bad by mistake, but she immediately corrects her behavior as soon as she's explained that what she said wasn't right.

Tanaka? Complete Ally. No boomer behavior from the Grandpa ever.

Mei Rin? Ally. She is also a total lesbian who just hasn't come to terms with it yet, though. So for now she just says she's an Ally and moves on.

Finny is also an Ally who just doesn't get he's part of the community yet. He's aroace and doesn't know it.

Bard says he's an Ally, but the fact is that the only gay person he doesn't support is himself. Had his bi awakening after working with Sebastian at the Manor but denies it to himself like o!Ciel denies himself love and happiness.

Speaking of Sebastian, he's a very homophobic gay being. Not with himself. He knows he ain't straight and isn't upset about it. But if another person drops hints that they are, he's mad about it and WONT support them. Unless it's Agni. If it's Agni, he's EXTREMELY happy about it...

Agni is either Bi or a complete Ally.

Soma is the token straight friend. He's a complete Ally tho. Doesn't even hesitate. "Oh you're into men? That's cool! I'm into curry :)"

William is aroace and okay with that but he's also homophobic and transphobic.

Ronald is either Bi or another "token straight, ally friend"

Bonus: more sexuality headcanons!

Undertaker gives me big homosexual vibes but I also believe in the theory that him and Claudia had a thing, so I'll say pan.

Sieglinde is a lesbian. Had her first girl crush on Lizzie.

Grelle is obviously and canonically a trans woman and proud but imo she STILL needs to understand that men aren't her thing. Women are. She's in denial.

Also headcanon that in a modern era she would fucking hate the trans flag colours bc there's no deep red in it wich means she doesn't know how to incorporate it with her aesthetic.

Othello is ace. Idk if he's aro too or at least into women, but he's ace.

Alois is only into guys but also ace. @weeb-cheese showed me the light when they said he looked aroace to them. I can't completely buy the aro part but i am 100% sold on him being ace.

Jason Kolchek: bisexual, he/him

there’s no way this guy is hetero. The way he smiles at Salim, the way he looks at him. Even if you chose the “bad options” it seems like they’re flirting (we can also see Jason’s choking kink eheh). I like to think that he has a lot of internalized homophobia, probably because of his childhood. I also like to think he signed up in the military just to see muscular men and women✨✨

Salim Othman: bisexual or pansexual, he/him

same as Jason, he can’t be hetero when he’s with the marine. He probably doesn’t have internalized homophobia, but didn’t realized easily he was queer (probably because ofhis family). My indecision between bisexual and pansexual comes by a fanfic I read where Salim said he didn’t care about the gender of who he loved. Besides that, his son accept him and just wants to see his dad happy <3

Rachel King: bisexual, she/her

House of Bisexuals. Jokes apart, I love to see how she immediately began to take to heart Clarice. I both ship her with Clarice and with Eric+Nick (when the love triangle becomes a polyamorous relationship>>>). In both cases, I can see the passion she puts in all her relationships, which are different compared to the ones with Jason, Joey or Merwin. Also mommy vibes

Nick Kay: questioning, he/him

my man didn’t know he would eventually fell in love with both a cute blondie and a badass blondie. As I said, I really love to see Eric, Rachel and Nick as a polyamorous relationship, but with some other things. Rachel is totally ok with this and with her sexual orientation, but Eric and Nick needs to understand a lot of things. Eric is ok with his sexual orientation, but it would take a little while to understand that he’s polyamorous. Beside, Nick is ok with the fact that he’s polyamorous, but still needs to understand his sexuality

Eric King: bisexual, he/him

my man has more mommy issues than water in his body. Probably his friends understood he’s bisexual before himself, and when he understood it he was scared. Rachel always supported him and wanted him to be ok. After a while, he accepted he was bisexual, but was still a little scared to talk about it to the others

Clarice Stokes: lesbian, she/her

you can’t tell me otherwise, I refuse to hear she doesn’t like girls. You can say she is bi, pan, omni and so on, but you can’t say she is hetero. I read somewhere that at the start she flirted with Jason, but I didn’t see it (maybe because I’m dumb)

Merwin: hetero, he/him

I like to think he acts like a homophobe and makes a lot of jokes about the gays, but when he discovers a friend of his is queer, he’s going to protect them with all himself. Still a misogynist, but maybe not a homophobe

Joey: gay, he/him

he didn’t come out to anybody except for Merwin. This is way he makes a lot of jokes about the two being together and doing things. Maybe someone understands it, but doesn’t say a word. He’s too scared to come out

Greetings!!! Sorry this took a while to answer. Me or tumblr *glares suspiciously* accidentally managed to delete everything I’d typed mid-answer, and I have had A Week, so I’ve only just gotten around to re-writing. But hey, I’m here now and still excited about thunderpride!!! (and I think this is longer than the original!)

2- Queer ships for Thunderbirds? I love Kayo and Penelope together!

a) Their relationship is so interesting to me. (I haven’t actually read a huge amount of Kayo/Penny, so this is mostly from my own thoughts.) 

I see them as foils for each other in a way that brings them closer together. Penny and Kayo have very different backgrounds and outside appearances, yet they are similar at the core. Both are determined and devoted to their causes and ruthless when it comes to people they love being hurt. Kayo’s armour is in seeming dangerous, while Penelope’s in appearing harmless. A lot of vulnerability and trust would go into learning how to be together, but their relationship's greatest strength is not having to put up appearances, able to understand and be themselves with each other completely.

b) lesbians. Need I say more? (We always need more WLW in fandom!)

1- Headcanons! I’m going to answer for Alan, because I sure do have a lot of queer headcanons!

I absolutely love Alan being trans. Like so much. He’s a character I’ve become unexpectedly fond of with a side of concerned ‘oh gosh, he’s just a kid, who let the kid go out on space rescues?!’ The contrast between International Rescue operative and literally a teenager.

Alan going through the normal things of being a teen, figuring out gender, still in highschool, all the while flying around a rocket for International Rescue. Just the relatableness, of ‘yeah I’ve been there too,’ and getting to show him having a super supportive family, and the representation of him being a part of International Rescue who people and kids in and out of universe look up to! 

There are a bunch of amazing works from people in this fandom too! 

I reckon Alan really likes the word queer for describing his sexuality. He’s still young and figuring himself out, and doesn't want the pressure to define himself by just one narrow and constricting label. While questioning, he tried on a bunch of more specific ones, maybe bi or pan, but none of them really stuck. He likes people of all different genders and prefers the freedom of being himself as he is in the moment without having it fit into a neat box. 

14- Coming out!

My thinking is Alan only realised he was trans around 13/14. And I’ve accidentally written a fic here for you, whoops!

It's titled "As Sure As the Stars," about Alan growing up, figuring out he's trans and coming out! Much queer joy there!

For coming out as queer, it’s not a big deal but they still celebrate! Alan isn't exactly the first of his siblings to not be straight. Actually thinking about it, none of them are. This is Alan’s turn, for him to celebrate who he is and have pride in it. His whole family is there to show their support, like they are everyday, today just a bit louder. An excuse for a party is an excuse for a party! There is rainbow icecream cake flown in from the mainland on TB-One so it doesn't melt, and who let Gordy get his hands on glitter?! 

Alan grins every time he finds rainbow glitter in a crevice of the house. A reminder of his family’s love and support for him, in the enduring nature of sparkles!

First impression: When I first was introduced to his character I thought that he was a silent protagonist who had most of his lore/and personality built on headcanons(Which I love, its really cool to see what a community can come up with. I can name a number of fandoms who have made cooler lore than the devs could lol) who didn't have much else to him.

Impression now: Red is actually a lot more than he seems. He has a personality of his own and I like how we catch it in small glimpses(through his canon internal dialogue we see in the 96' version of pokemon Red. And his many expressions that are more of a silent language than a reaction as seen in Pokemon Masters.)

Favorite Moment: My favorite moment honestly is the one in Pokemon Masters where he just, stares at Blue, and they somehow have this dramatic conversation while everyone else just looks at them violently confused. Makes me laugh (:

Idea for a story: This is something I totally didn't think of this morning. Red finally decides its time to step down from his Pokemon journey and decides to open an Pokemon sanctuary to rehome and rehabilitate abandoned or feral pokemon.

Unpopular Opinion: Red is selectivley mute.

Favorite Relationship: You know where this is going. (However, I mean this more platonically, but they're married your honor lol) I like the relationship he and Blue have in Alola. It's cool to see how their intense rivalry turned into a mature and healthy friendship in their adult years.

Favorite Headcanon: My favorite headcanon is that Red is fluent in sign language.

First impression: Until you showed me his character in game. I kind of had the idea that his whole personality was being a flirty heart breaker/fuckboy from what I had seen from the internet.

Favorite moment: I'm not sure which support this is but the one where he and Felix are joking around and jokes the line "We aren't going to let our constant verbal abuse get in the way of our friendship are we?" Referring to how they playfully tease each other.. Because 1. Its a summary of being best friends. 2. It reminds me of our friendship.

Idea for a story: Been thinking about this too. Sylvain and Felix denounce their heritage to becoming the lords of their houses and running away together after the end of the war. And form a little life together.

Unpopular opinion: I think he should be easily recruited by M!Byleth too. As we know by Flayn's support he is either Bi or Pan.

Favorite relationship: His friendship with Felix. I love the complexity of it. Because on the surface they seem like bitter strangers after a broken off friendship. But once you really get into their supports you really see that they are close childhood best friends who would stop at nothing to make sure the other was safe.

Favorite headcanon: My favorite headcanon is that he is trans. I can't really explain it. But it just feels right for his character. (That being said I am perfectly fine with all gender headcanons for him. I think they are all wonderful/gen)

if the both of you were having a home date you would be watching movie, doing shit you learnt from youtube, or maybe baking together or if the both of you were tired you would be staying in bed and cuddle until you both recharged

when you were arguing i think it would be a full screaming session

but if you hate screaming you would try to calm her down by back hugging her or kissing her apologizing first than the both of you would talk calmly

but if you have anger issues then the both of you would hurt each other with your words you wouldn't talk for a while but during the night you might or might not cuddle each other whispering your apologies

but if she's really mad you should let her do anything to let her anger out then you can pull her into your embrace running your hair through her long hair whispering sweet things to her

Anyway let's get started!

•First things first is I resigned Knuckles and Sonic because I didnt like how they looked. It's very different from how they used to look

@frogboy0 for the help with these two!

•Okay so Knuckles looks more like he's related to the Kuckles clan and Sonic looks like he came out of the 90's or something like that XD. @frogboy0 thought the Letterman like jacket would look better on him and he was right. We also decided to give Kunckles a headband because we thought it be cool and it was.

•Okay so this headcanon is gonna surprise you but.....Knuckles is Sticks adoptive father. Sonic found her in forest one day and was stuck in a bear trap or something so Sonic, being the fucking king he is, saves the little garbage child but she put up a fight. Scratching and clawing at the blue hedgehog. Sonic took her back to his house he shares with Amy, Tails and Kunckles (who stays there only occasionally in account of having to guard the Master Emerald.) 

•She wouldn't answer any of his questions about who she was or anything like that. Once he made it home, Amy and Tails( mostly tails since...well look at her) were freaked out by this child. Sonic and his siblings try to calm her down but it didn't do much. Later on as they do this, Knuckles comes in after a tired day and sees the three of them all disarranged as a manic little badger messes up their house. Knuckles gets told what happened and he angrily yells at the girl who is shocked at how he isn't afraid of her in the slightest. And she liked the echina.

•Sticks then clings to Kunckles all the time and follows him everywhere, him being the only few to touch her.  She starts to see him as father and Sonic finds it adorable while Amy and Tails laugh and make fun of Kunckles who (lies) hates being called that. 

•She starts coming with him to watch the Master Emerald and Kunckles is glad she enjoys it as much as he does. She also starts wearing body paint like him too and dresses like his tribe would. Knuckles is utterly soft for it. (I love them so muchhhhh)

•Soon though, when she meets Rouge she starts to do the same thing she does with Knuckles, much to Rouge's distaste at first. She hates kids (lies) so the moment she sees this trash child she voices her opinion about how unclean she looks (as one does). Knuckles proceeds to yell at her for calling his daughter unclean. Sticks was shocked when Rouge was so willing to voice her opinion and sees how unhinged the bat was and was quickly star struck by the cool bat. Sticks then calls her mom because who wouldn't want someone as badass as Rouge as their mother?

•Rouge, of course, is utterly shocked when she called her mother and soon is oddly touch that this child sees her as her parent, (as weird as she is) even though she is slowly warming up to another person that she cares about besides herself.

•Sticks is a full supporter of wanting Knuckles and Rouge to be together. Why wouldn't she want her father and mother to be together?

•She waste no time trying to set them up whenever she got the chance. Though, when they (finally) get to get together, they become a cute little family (HHHHH IM SO SOFT OKAY)

•Okay so (I think) as I said before about Cream she loves Blaze and Shadow so much that she starts taking their punk/alternative kinda aesthetics and dresses like them. 

•She is still nice to everyone but Tails because they gonna throw hands. They both still think the other is copy them

•Amy and Sonic cry together as they go through old photographs of Tails and Cream because they were more friendly with eachother back then. They just want them to get along. Cream and Tails are lesbian and pan hostility

•Cream gets a crush on Sticks because she is wild and she likes her women stupid

•"wow she's so dumb, I wanna marry her"

   Hel-lo, darling ones! Aki here. Wanted to say some stuff, since I know I’ve been on and off here lately...

   First off, I have quite a few asks for imagines~! Super excited to get to them, but do know it’s been super slow for me, here, on account of a lot of IRL stuff that’s sapped my energy. (We’ll get into that in a moment.)

   Secondly... I wanted to do a far overdo gush post for everyone who follows and interacts with this blog.

   It continuously amazes me how much support this silly little thing gets. We’re nearing 2k followers and... I never thought I’d get these sorta numbers off of, “Do I love Jaal today?! Let’s find out!!” (I’m terrible at consistency, but I think it helps that I knew that ahead of time and opened up fics/headcanons, as well as rb’d art... The community already does so much! Gotta pay it back somehow, right?)

   I’m both delighted and exasperated (in a warm way!!) whenever I see the notifs for this blog blow up. It brings me so, so much joy to see people not only still love ME: Andromeda, but also Jaal and the angara in general! I sincerely hope we’ll someday see more of them...

   Here’s to hoping, what with an upcoming revisit to the Milky Way! (...I can desperately hope, at least.)

   Which leaves... IRL stuff. I’ll put it under the cut, as it’s pretty heavy stuff. [warnings for transphobia, homophobia, mentions of racism, and heavy depression]

   So... As of November of 2020, I left home. Not of my own will; I’m nonbinary, as well as DemiPan, and while my mother sort-of supported me... Her current husband, my stepdad, very much did not. He didn’t know fully what was going on, but he apparently got an inkling when his grandmother told him something was “wrong with me.” (I posted on Facebook about coming out, as well as talking about what each bit of my identity meant. I honestly did it in an attempt to tank familial relationships, as I had an inkling I wasn’t going to receive the support I dearly needed.)

   He’s an incredibly hateful man who- like most- defends this with religion. All others are wrong, bad, and evil. POC are making up stories about what they go through. Trans people have something wrong with them...and he simply does not believe gay people are pure. (So insert the age-old, “sinful gays,” line.)

   I have a boyfriend irl. He was able to make sure I was fed, when they didn’t. Made sure I was safe when I was breaking to pieces. I stayed over at his house for sleep, instead of in my own bed as much as possible. I didn’t see “home” as a place with family; it was wherever my boyfriend was, because I couldn’t stand to be in that hateful house, with a mother who overlooked the behavior right in front of her (because it “wasn’t as bad” as her relationship w/ my dad), and a bunch of children who deserved much better.....and I was terrified to gamble their safety on CPS. (I was made 3rd parent, being the eldest child.)

   So... November, I brought up more issues from stepdad. Mother defended him, basically. (As well as told me- to my face- that singular they/them pronouns don’t make sense. It’s only for plural, isn’t it?) I got super upset and emotional... Made worse by stepdad joining in and saying exactly what I thought he’d say.

   My boyfriend got me after work, I later gathered up my stuff (and then that stuff got stolen from the trunk of his car), and...I left. Never went back to live; only to continue picking up my stuff. We don’t have an apartment yet, and I’m just lucky his dad was okay with me staying with them.

   ...I wish that was the end of it.

   My dad has been a big help making the starting transfer over to adult life, especially as...nowhere I want to work at wants to hire me. But, I do have a phone, thanks to him. And am now able to contact my half-sisters.

   ...The older of the three coming out to me as bisexual (though she admits she might be pan?) and how things have gotten worse. Her dad- stepdad to me- told her to throw away LGBT+ books she bought; she had to sneak them out of the trash after he went to bed. She’s still not eating well. (As I did when I was there.) Her depression is fully apparent; her dad is unsupportive, mom still doing nothing to help, and even her own two sisters have started seeing things his way and don’t like who the older sister is.

   I...can’t do anything to help her aside from be around and it honestly hurts. Because I want to do more for her and I can’t. (I even tried encouraging them- all three kids- to be more open-minded when I was there; showing them SU and She-Ra to try to introduce those thoughts to them, since no one else was going to...)

   So.... Yeah. The explanation of why I haven’t been as active here, alongside of never getting the chance to finish ME: Andromeda for myself. I’ve been horribly burnt out from the pandemic, and then this happened along with it all... It’s been a blow that’s been so hard to recover from.

   And I don’t know how to even begin asking for help, so...I figured I’d write this. If you read this far, thank you so very, very much.

   It’s a lot. I know. I need therapy for all this, but my insurance is gone and idk what that means for me now. I’m trying to figure it out...

   But I guess if I was going to close this off on anything? Please take care of yourselves. Check in with friends, if you can. Try to not bottle up too much. No matter what anyone else says, you’re a lovely person and deserve so many kind, nice things.

starting on the positive because there were things i did like in the episode

things i liked

sam wilson: *exists*

me:

sam's storyline was definitely the strongest of the two in this ep and i liked pretty much everything he did.

the opening aerial fight! was! so! cool! seeing batroc again was a nice nod to tws too and an interesting parallel to steve's lumerian star fight. i loved seeing his quick tactical thing, seeing how he fights, and the way he utilises the wings even in close quarters.

sam speaks arabic!

sam fixes redwing! (validation of a hc of mine that he's good with robotics. maybe that's a widely held fandom one as well? idk)

i instantly found torres to be really endearing and i'm looking forward to seeing more of him throughout the series. the relationship between him and sam has a lot of potential.

the manipulation of the government and general set up for sam's storyline felt strong. good basis for a story and pertinent to the current political landscape.

sam's speech as he handed over the shield was well written and gave me the same kind of vibes as the 'the price of freedom is high' speech. they could be quite nicely paralleled side by side.

sam's family! look, i'm a sucker for domestic moments for our faves so the entire sequence where we got this insight into sam's past, his relationship with his sister, and where he's come from was brilliant. i like sarah a lot and seeing her frustration with her brother for trying to come in and fix things when he's been gone for so long felt really realistic. i felt for her a lot. because you can tell there's so much there bubbling under the surface, a mix of love and resentment and frustration that was palpable as they talked about what to do with their parents' house/boat/business. so, give me all of the sarah wilson moments pls n thnx.

seeing the consequences of the snap (hi, i am refusing to call it the fucking blip. marvel, my god, get better names for shit.) idk how in depth they're really going to go into it all but at least they attempted something here with the scenes at the bank.

bucky's nightmare sequence as the winter soldier. it was such a brilliant reminder about how terrifying tws actually is. he's silent and ominous and THAT MUSIC. his presence is legitimately unsettling from the moment you see him. (but he runs around like a bull in a china shop which does make me 🤔 when i remember he's supposed to be a g h o s t s t o r y. idk. not exactly stealth and shadow work. but that doesn't look cool on screen so 🤷🏻‍♀️)

and on that note, vindication of my 'they sleep on the floor after coming back' headcanon. literally had raymond holt screaming in my head the second i saw bucky wake up on his living room floor. does my heart break for him? yes. was i smug about being right? also yes.

leah seems cool. could she actually be telepathic??? since she hit every single one of bucky's boats while they played battleships? i would like to see it. 😂 there's def more to her character than meets the eye since she's slated to be in all six episodes.

bucky having one (1) old man friend even if the reason behind it was heartbreaking.

so, yeah. these things i genuinely liked.

things i didn't like

the therapy scene. i genuinely hated it. there's a different between a no nonsense therapist and someone being deliberately antagonistic and that definitely erred on the side of the latter imo. she tells him to 'get over it' and mocks him for not reaching out and meeting people. media in general doesn't do a good job of depicting therapy so this is just yet another poor offering into the canon. i'm tired. i want healthy depictions of therapy already. it's supposed to be a supportive environment ffs.

plus she kept calling him james 🤮 genuinely wouldn't be surprised if she turns out to be a bad guy plant. which i think is a cliche at this point? 🤔

bucky's new look. which i know we've seen before now but i've not offered my unsolicited opinion on it. it's just sebastian stan in an ugly leather jacket. it's generic male lead#346. it's broification. someone said they made him look like brock rumlow and now i can't unsee it. 😭 rip to bucky with the good hair. i'd have loved to see him with some curls tbh. or a wave that kind of calls back to his pre-war days. anyway. i digress. character design is 0/10.

would have been nice to see him cut his hair as a marker of him starting a new chapter and coming into his own personhood.

rhodey's disability was just? glossed over? no visible assistive tech at all?

the date. just the fact it was there at all. it was heavy handed and not subtle and we know why they put that in there within the first 10 minutes of bucky's screen time. that's all i'm going to say about it. if you follow me, you know where i stand. we don't need poorly written romance. get it in the bin.

there was no acknowledgement of bucky's relationship with steve. if there was a memorial to be had then bucky should have been there. maybe these will come later but i'm not holding my breath.

is steve dead? i assumed that the party line was that young steve died in the battle and no-one knew about old steve . but did they actually kill steve off-screen? what a kick in the teeth if that's the case. let me just cut open a wound for them to pour the salt straight into, shall i?

things i'm mostly neutral on

john walker. he looks like a cop and his wink at the camera gave me the creeps but i'm interested to see how that pans out. i hope sam beats 50 shades of star spangled shit out of him.

the flag smashers. premise of a world without borders is interesting and a believable concept given what's happened in universe. there's a lot of scope there i think. that said, the name is dumb.

right. i think that covers everything for now. my expectations going in were really low, i won't lie. before the premiere i tried to stay away from the trailers and tv spots and the hype in general so i was pleasantly surprised at how much i enjoyed certain aspects of the show.

in conclusion, some good, some bad, some ugly and i will be cherry picking my favourite nuggets for fic at a later point. also, i'm still a skrull!Steve truther. real steve is chilling with some wakandan goats 😌💖✨

Luther:

Cishet but 100% an ally (guys he’s not homophobic he’s just low on brain cells)

Luther doesn’t totally understand his trans siblings’ gender identities at times but he will destroy absolutely anybody that misgenders them

When Diego came out as trans, he switched to the correct pronouns immediately with absolutely no hesitation

He has never slipped up with Diego’s pronouns

Same exact thing with Allison when she came out as trans

Probably didn’t sneak out of the house to go to pride parades with his siblings but covered them and made plans with Grace and Pogo to assure Reginald wouldn’t find out they were gone

Diego:

Diego is bisexual and a trans man

Diego clearly has a preference for women but has definitely been into guys (or been in relationships with them) before too

Diego is trans I will die on this hill

Because he was raised as a girl, he learned how to follow in dancing rather than lead

Klaus is actually the one that taught him how to lead in dancing

In return, Diego taught Klaus the opposite

When Grace was naming the children (Reginald would never), Diego asked her if he could have a boy name

She, of course, obliged and gave him one

It was another guy in Klaus’s rehab and Ben suddenly found himself enamored with the guy

Klaus (even though he wasn’t feeling particularly social) spent as much time with the guy as possible so that Ben could also spend more time with him

my head is full of random headcanons, for the cast and the characters, some that are the more common ones, such as sexuality (pan!luke, bi!reggie, lesbian!flynn, lesbian!carrie) and other fandom wide headcanons, so i shall give you my favourite one of my own for each person for now:

Charlie:

pretty certain this is already true lol but the biggest flirt you will ever meet, even when you’re already dating him. he would be constantly flirting with you to the point where other women have checked if you’re okay before and you just thank them and tell them that you have a dumbass for a boyfriend

also (i know i said i’d only do one but this ties into it) your family would love him from the second they met him, he has such a bubbly and charming personality that they wouldn’t even take a whole minute to love him (i’m just picturing a massive family dinner that you brought him to and he ends up sitting next to your grandma exchanging stories the whole night, and at some point he leaves to go to the bathroom or get a drink or something and your grandma goes “oh he’s a nice boy isnt he?” and when it’s time to leave she gives him a massive hug and he’s already organised to go visit her for tea that week 🥺)

Owen

(you mentioned angry owen, so let’s discuss)

this could just be me projecting but i feel like owen wouldn’t be the type to get outwardly angry? like his anxiety would make him worried about the confrontation and worried that if he got upset with you that you’d leave him (which wouldn’t be true at all), so instead he just gets really quiet and avoids you, and that’s when you know he’s mad at you

Savannah

i think i’ve mentioned this one before but wearing each other’s clothes if you were friends or dating, to the point where the two of you pretty much have one larger wardrobe instead of two smaller ones. there’s stuff in your wardrobe that you don’t even know who the original owner was cause you’ve both worn it so often

Luke Patterson

never got his drivers license. we see him riding a bike around in flashbacks, so i headcanon that he never got around to getting his drivers license cause he was too focused on the band at first, and then he died so now he has no need to know how to drive (i also headcanon that reggie never got his license either, only alex and bobby had them so whenever they were going to perform somewhere they would split up between bobby’s car and alex’s parents car that he borrowed, so that they could get all of their equipment and themselves to the gig)

Alex Mercer

i know other people have said this too but i can see alex coming from a big family, with like 6 kids and his grandparents living close enough that they would be over constantly, and when alex came out some of his siblings were supportive, and his nanna was supportive but everyone else just pretended that he had never told them (why am i picturing his nanna knitting a pride flag scarf for him, and telling all of her friends at bingo about her sweet gay grandson in hopes that one of them would also have a gay grandson to set alex up with)

Reggie Peters

my biggest headcanon for reggie is that he took up photography after spending time with ray, because he wanted something to make him feel closer to the man, plus he realised how cool photography actually was (bonus if the boys are visible to julie’s family now and ray himself teaches reggie the do’s and don’ts of photography, and even buys him his first camera, a gift that reggie treasures, and never leaves home without)

(also bonus but neurodivergent reggie please)

Julie Molina

on her 18th birthday she would go out and get a tiny tattoo of a butterfly on a dahlia that she would keep hidden from ray for the longest time until eventually one day she forgets to hide it and he sees it and goes “oh wow thats pretty” and thats all, he doesnt freak out at all like she thought he might 

Flynn

practically lives at the molina’s 50% of the time, to the point where she has her own draw of clothes in julie’s room and her own toiletries in the bathroom, and occasionally when she’s at her own house she’ll have to text julie to check if a certain item of clothing was in her drawer cause flynn really wanted it for school the next day and couldn’t find it anywhere

Carrie Wilson

is actually not a horrible person, she just has walls up to keep people out after her mother left/died/went away, cause she’s so terrified that everyone else is going to leave her too, which only gets cemented when julie and flynn stop being her friend

One of the things I like about tdp is how diverse it is, and not only with LGBTQIA+ people/couples. Nothing wrong with that ofc, but some shows that market themselves with "representation" only have that as the main focus, and its nice to have a show that has that AND more without all the dumb stereotypes. And honestly as a woc i'm just glad to see an asian who isn't short or nerdy for once lmao (I hope this doesn't come off as homophobic or anything btw, and sorry if this got posted twice ;w;)

Oh, you are preaching to the choir, and you are absolutely right. I’ve written before on how fandom prioritizes queer rep — specifically “same sex” presenting rep — above all else, particularly race. It’s super evident in the way interracial couples (canon or fanon, but it’s especially annoying when the ship is canon) is bemoaned as “can’t a guy and girl just be friends” often so the white character of the match can have a same sex relationship with another white character. It very much reeks of competing representation needs that queer white people in particular (which as one, I think I can say) don’t realize are competing. I’ve written more extensively about it before and it’s beyond annoying.

Especially bc I’m a white pan queer in a same sex presenting relationship (neither my partner nor myself are women but we’re still socially perceived that way), so like, I get it. But I will always be just as happy about a cute & healthy interracial “het” relationship as I would be about a queer ship.  (Because my relationship is also interracial, too.) Because Yes, it’s wonderful seeing my queerness in things like The Dragon Prince and the Owl House — I’ve shed happy tears over it before — but it’s also important to see beyond my own personal representation horizons to pursue and support others.

It’s also frustrating how much representation has become synonymous with queer rep when like, no, it’s not the only rep that matters. Disabled rep matters, neurodivergent rep matters, religious (ex: Jewish, Muslim) rep matters, racial rep matters. And we need stories with all of those things even when they don’t overlap, and to celebrate when they do.

Like I love the How To Train Your Dragon franchise, but an antagonist in the tv show falls into antisemitic caricatures (so does Tangled, twice unfortunately) and what little racial rep it has also isn’t great. But the two main leads are disabled with another two disabled characters, and that’s all awesome and important. Again, more diverse stories for variety is key.

Hot take, maybe, but TDP would still be groundbreaking with its racial and disabled rep even if there was no queer rep, which is a lovely — and is groundbreaking in its own way. The Dragon Prince has two same sex kisses in 27 episodes — one of which takes place only fifteen episodes into the series. What other kid’s animated show can say that?

And TDP’s Asian rep is also something I don’t feel enough people praise, tbh, particularly in regards to Callum and Ezran in some ways? Like Amaya and Sarai are heavily praised, and rightfully so, but Callum is also an Asian lead (and arguably the Main lead of the show) and Ezran is Black and Asian. 

It was a source of frustration when people felt like they had to justify shipping something “het” like Rayllum by making it “woke” somehow, based upon gender roles and insisting that Rayla had to be taller and Callum had to stay shorter (because one inch is that important, apparently?). And I’m totally fine with that headcanon, I have no problem with it. I do not care. But it ignores the interracial aspect of Rayllum’s relationship and that Asian men being shorter is the stereotype. Just like how women being shorter is a stereotype. In fandom, they can coexist, and whichever one canon goes with (if either) will be subversive in its own way. But the whole thing and the way it pops back up from time to time is absolutely a symptom of people not knowing how to look at race just as much as gender or queer rep in fandom.

Most of the Dragon Prince is good about it, though, which I appreciate, and I think it’s a great reflection of how the show treats representation, too: all important, overlapping, and intersecting.
