Watched the YouTube tick over to 1000 subscribers.
A year ago I think I had 10, and I was just figuring out the Mixamo dolls for the first time.
My Just a Man animatic dropped on the 31st. The first time I’d ever animated a human figure.
I never expected my life to go this direction.
I certainly didn’t expect to start making art like this, or sink so many hours into creating fanart and fanfiction.
I didn’t expect to fall head-over-heels in love with Odysseus, Diomedes, and Penelope.
But the passion and love I’ve finally found in the Greek mythology community, surrounding EPIC and its origin story, has truly changed my life.
It’s showed me how to be brave. How being part of something, it doesn’t have to be a big thing to make an impact.
Do what you can do to contribute and get on the train, and the personal growth you can achieve is monumental.
Even if Jay never sees my completed YouTube videos… I have learned and am continuing to learn a skill I’ve wanted to learn for ten years because he provided the backdrop.
I am an artist, for the first time in my life I can truly communicate the images in my head the way that I see them. The way I’ve always wanted to in my writing.
Not to get sappy on main… this sort of post would usually go on the WoL blog, and it might end up there, but, I just want to thank everybody for supporting and discovering me this year.
Thank you.
Oh btw, here’s the link to my channel:

The Owl House: A show that has changed my life in a way nothing else has.
It’s been over a week since the finale aired. Over a week since we’ve had to say goodbye to a show that has more than likely changed animation. Saying goodbye and coming to terms with it has been painful, but I’ve been doing fairly well since the 8th, since the most emotional night of my life in recent memory. The finale has really made me reflect on these last 6 months. The last 6 months since I had watched the first episode, and changed the course of not just my life, but my brain chemistry as well. I have at last found a way to put my thoughts and love for this show into words, and have realized just what this incredible series means to me and what it has done for so, so many people. It makes me feel a certain happiness nothing has ever managed to give me, or at least nothing in a very long time, and I can’t wait to tell you all.
This is the story of my discovery and journey through a series like no other, and just how my life has changed because of it.
The Owl House. I still remember that rainy afternoon in mid-September when I watched my first video about it. I had heard about it before, but hadn’t really been too interested in it. Hard to believe, looking back. But on this fateful afternoon, my YouTube recommended would show me an out of context video, introduce me to a magical adventure, and be my first step on a path that would alter the next 6 months of my life and counting. Not the first time this has happened, and certainly not the last. First one video, then two, then a few animatics and Lumity compilations, and maybe one or two videos of Luz being the biggest bi disaster ever. All of them being from season 1, of course. No spoilers for me, thank you, YT.  The seeds of my obsession and hyperfixation were planted that day and already began to grow.
A few days go by, I watch the first episode and start dying from laughter from the first 30 seconds, and when I went in only for Lumity, I quickly knew I was going to experience so much more than that. A week later, I finally put my foot down and made my mom and I watch the first 6 episodes one day after school, and we never watched a single new episode without each other. We spend time with season 1, already on our way through a magical realm full of possibilities, we blow through season 2 with unbridled amazement, we cautiously watch Thanks to Them, the newest episode at the time, knowing it was the beginning of the end. We had already been through so much, and we were about to see much more.
I hop onto the fandom, excited to interact with fellow fans who are just as dedicated to this show than I am, excite to see all the fanart and the fics, the theories and the memes, the comedic mayhem that is fueled by a burning passion and love for a series, for a wide cast of characters, for a world so so special to most. I spend time on the subreddit, I join Tumblr and make some pals, and my love for The Owl House grows and grows and grows, bigger and bigger and bigger without restraint. I find my favorite characters, my favorite ships, my favorite episodes. Raine rises through my list of characters and lands their spot as favorite and the one I go to for comfort, right alongside Luz. Raeda and Lumity tie for the spot of my OTP, I slowly start shipping Gustholomule, I start writing my first TOH fic about Raeda, I found my people. People who are just as crazy for this fictional world and its cast of goofballs and weirdoes.
People that I can relate to, in a fandom that, for me, is unbelievably warm and welcoming, a million times better than nearly every other fandom I’m in. My love keeps burning brighter and brighter, I manage to connect with a few folks irl and find a Discord server full of wonderful people, all through this series. Never have I been this attached to anything before, never have I experienced something incredible like this. Usually, the shows I watch either ended years ago, still have years left in their lifespan, or I’m never that emotionally attached to hold onto it for long, or have any sort of reaction to it ending outside of “Oh well. Guess that’s it. Sad to see it go”, only to be fully recovered a couple of days later.
But not with Owl House. With TOH, it’s so, so much different, almost as if it’s a whole different species. I’ve latched onto it for months, not intending to let go for a long, long time, I spend hours and hours on Tumblr, the subreddit, and Discord every day talking about this show and info dumping to friends. The Owl House captures a happiness that not even Friends or SpongeBob can achieve, both being shows that have been special to me and always will be. Friends for just being a great show and playing a special part in my relationship with my mom, and SpongeBob for being such a major part of my childhood, a part that holds a large amount of nostalgia. That’s not to say that Friends and SpongeBob don’t make me happy, they really do, without a doubt, but don’t stand a chance against Owl House.
I was never able to pinpoint why Owl House is as special and important to me as it is, until after the finale. After Watching and Dreaming, I realized, it’s because it makes me feel seen. I relate to Luz more than any other fictional character in existence. I’m weird and nerdy on a daily basis, bisexual, neurodivergent, and have never felt like I fit in. I’ve always felt out of place in this world, even in places that are basically made for you to be like this, even in spots where my friends and I can hang out and be weird together. I’ve always seen her as a cartoon version of me, I see myself in her most of the time, and it’s why I cling to her a lot. Same thing goes for Raine, though it’s not as much, but still important, as a person with a crapton of social anxiety and a passion for music and the arts.
I feel seen through all of these characters, whether I see myself in them, or the situations they face and the emotions they feel. It’s incredible, really. And it’s not just me, I’ve seen this in practically the entire fandom. This world, the Demon Realm, makes all of us feel seen, and it’s amazing that a show is able to do that. That a show is able to make us feel in such a way that makes us come together to find and bond with each other. And then I realized something else. Everything about this series makes me unbelievably happy for one reason. It makes me happy and warm inside, like a place I know. Like a place that lets me be who I am around my family, no questions asked. This fandom and everyone in it makes me feel comfort.
It feels like home. Like I belong. It feels like a warm hug, like a kiss to the forehead, like a hot meal on a rainy day, like a nice bath or shower, or the smell of freshly washed bed sheets, like the warmth of clothes fresh out of the dryer, like cuddles after long day, like a nice piece of chocolate, like warm cookies from the oven, like a cup of coffee in the morning, like every single comfort you can think of. The music embodies this perfectly, the end credits more specifically. While the opening more or less feels like “Let the adventures begin!”, the end credits feels like coming home to family and friends, like a hug from the entire cast, like 2 simple words that, although simple, mean a lot to not just me, but many others: “Welcome home”.
In short, The Owl House is a legendary show that has changed history in many aspects, a show that has made millions of people feel seen and find who they are, made many feel like they belong, and has filled millions with a feeling of comfort. A feeling of comfort so strong, it’s the first thing plenty of us reach for when we need something to lean on, or a shoulder to cry on. When we just need a pick me up after a hard day, or when we just need a smile on our faces. It’s a series, a cast of wonderful characters, a magical, fictional world, and a massive fandom that welcomes us with open arms, and makes us happy like not much else can.
And if that isn’t an achievement to be proud of, then I don’t know what is.

Lost Love, Lost Year?
CW: Depression/Anxiety/Suicide I saw someone talking about how a show had managed to pull them out of a dark place and given them new energy and it reminded me of last year and especially last summer. The year where I spent a Summer helping fix up my parent’s house for my sister’s wedding. The year where I wrote somewhere close to FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND WORDS, three hundred thousand of went to a single story. Where at one point I was writing 2-5 chapters a day because I couldn’t stop being motivated to type. Where I was putting down Stellaris because one more turn was too long before getting back to creation. The year I fell in love with The Owl House. Late March I listened to “Little Miss Perfect” for the first time and found THE animatic that everyone knows (even if its creator effectively disowned it). It reintroduced me to Lumity and I started seeking out more. Comic compilations, art, and even considered writing some myself despite having not done fanfiction in over a year. Then I finished Season 1 and the questions I had INVIGORATED ME. Literally the first chapter of my behemoth of a first TOH fic, The Power of Love, was motivated by me wondering how the hell Luz’s magic was so strong in the finale and finding a fun, whimsical answer that fed into shipping possibilities and it just exploded from there. It was easily the most productive I had ever been. That first month included a minimum of 200k words written between one offs for TOH and Amphibia but most PoL. I loved what I was writing so much that I even started seeing if I could take those concepts and turn them into an original creation which is what eventually became “Little Miss Rich Witch” which was even named after the song that got me into the fandom. I even published the first two chapters to PoL just to share with them and to sneak peak at what I might be working on behind the scenes. A moment that led to one of the most sincerely suicidal moments of my life. Where I spent at least an hour just staring at a river, unable to think or feel much of anything as my legs both wanted to go and yet never move. A night I still can’t say much more about than this, even a year and a half later. But I didn’t blame people for their disinterest. I instead took down the chapters and moved on. I was still passionate and pretty much didn’t slow on my content creation for the story. It was still updating every day at that point I believe and I was still writing almost every day. Season 2 was also just around the corner and I was willing to be optimistic about Amazon’s new serialized storytelling platform, Kindle Vella. I would even go on to pour almost two thousand dollars of my savings into fanartists to get the promotional art that might make Little Miss Rich Witch be able to be seen this time and on a new platform to help me maybe finally find success as a writer, even while I continued TOH fiction. But then Vella was just... A failure. And the majority of artists I commissioned simply never posted the pictures. And all the while, I found myself seeing cracks and fissions within the show I loved. I started forming questions that weren’t met by possibilities but by simple laziness and plotholes, even before the half of the season affected by the shortening would arrive. And around that time is probably when I slowed down. When I started putting things on hiatus because I simply couldn’t keep up with any of my projects. All the ambition and confidence I used to have turned to ash. Turned to sludge that continued to try and pull me down. I didn’t stop creating, not entirely, but it became more sporadic. More of a shotgun than a focused stream until my serials were no longer updating, neither for my original works or my fanfiction. And with S2B and the new year, it really just got worse. Even shorter stories were harder for me to work on. What took two months or so to make (The Blight’s Ruff Secret/Their Ruff Secrets) now took half a year (Crises Girlfriends). The serials I knew were better for me, that gave me some of the validation I needed, continued/continue to sit abandoned, even after when they were supposed to stop being on hiatus. Focusing on them just hurt. Just like focusing on the show and trying to be happy with everyone else was. My mind was swiftly growing to hate the show, not helped by the fandom, who I was fully entrenched in now, having decided to claim I was a bigot and a pedophile for aged up fiction I wrote and the fact that I dared include sapphics in my original projects while being a straight white guy. Not even saying how my representation was bad, just that it was inherently immoral because of what I was. And all the while, my depression became ever more crushing. Where a year before, I could see my parents at least once a week and spend the whole day helping them, I would struggle against my anxiety to just go see them. Nowadays, I struggle to even go for a morning walk with them. The socializing on Twitter I’d done to try and make friends is no longer something I can do as even leaving comments can feel like a chore now when before I was happy to brighten anyone’s day with a headcanon about their piece or just telling them how wonderful it was. The confidence that told me I could work on multiple projects is now just a false nectar brought about by a manic phase that not even my psychiatrist will believe me about despite me having been diagnosed with bipolar for years.
I just... Plenty of the past year going wrong could just be my illnesses or the problems with the world at large but I can’t help but wonder how much losing TOH made me lose a part of myself. Where my joke of “If being analytical of literally everything you watch sounds like a terrible way to enjoy anything, you’re right” is actually robbing me of ANY sort of happiness. I don’t know. Even now my brain tells me I’m being dramatic. That I’m just a failure who had a couple good months when he’s used to only having bad ones. That if this could be the solution, I need to stop being such an asshole even as it itself won’t shut up and demand I think more about it all. And besides, if losing one hyper fixation ripped this much strength from me, what will happen when I lose the next one?

finer arts | th
Tumblr media
↳  genre fluff, slice of life, domestic, husband-Taehyung  ↳  words 4.6k ↳  summary inspired by the Baumgartner Restoration channel on Youtube, Taehyung is written as a fine art restorer. This fic centres on the point where arts and science collide. Also, long haired Taehyung. Unedited. :’) ↳ song miley cyrus ‘when i look at you’ slowed ver.
Tumblr media
Very soft. Taehyung’s hair, at this length, had always been soft. It’s been awhile since he told you he wanted them to grow longer, and it’s finally paying off. He looks terribly soft with bangs going just a little over his brows and poking his eyes. Gathering his hair into one apple sprout and tying it up has always been your favourite way to start the day. He was humming Frank Sinatra's in the living room as it played on the bluetooth speaker when you found him. Always so hardworking. You leaned on your side by the wall, folding your arms and watching your husband pouting at the document he was reading as his head hung low. Big round glasses sliding down the slope of his Godly carved nose he learned to hate, growing up. Parker Fountain Pen in his slender fingers, cross crossing, underlining, circling the paper in a professional manner makes you remember why you had fallen for him. Slowly, but surely.
He lifts his eyes, noticing another presence in the room, and briefly smiles before returning to his writing pad again, greeting in a deep voice, “You’re awake?”
“Yes, I am…” you nodded, indulging the view still. When he starts to repeatedly push his hair away from his face, you take off your own hairband and have him sit down on the floor, with his back leaning against the couch. And you gather his hair with your finger raking the locks gently, tying an apple sprout hair. His eyes were glued on the work he brought home.
“I take it that you’re leaving home for the studio today?” you tipped his head back, chin pointed upward, demanding his attention. He chuckles through his nose as you leaned in for a chaste kiss on the lips, where his beauty mark is and then the tip of his nose and the skin between his brows. With the chuckles alone, you knew you were right. Judging from the wrinkles on his forehead when he crosses out the plans he had, you knew that he was handling a semi large painting.
Taehyung is a fine-art conservator-restorer and because of it, his work consumes him. He treats his client’s painting like his own wife; each with their own time, loving and care. Instead of being envious towards the time he puts in them, you weigh more on the term ‘admiration’, towards his work and dedication. He truly is invested in his line of profession. It was only natural for an art lover like him to eventually become an artist himself, but after some unfortunate series of art blocks, he began to turn to conservation midway through college. You were always supportive of his aspirations. Although you don’t share the same passion for arts to actually go to a college as an art major like him, he always says you should have been an artist rather than scientist when he saw you sketch a lion behind your notes, after being frustrated about writing papers on your research.
Ever since then, you and Taehyung shared an art studio at your shared home after marriage.
“Polyurethane,” he let out a deep sigh. One word is enough.
A big part about restoration and conservation is perfection. When the previous conservator uses polyurethane as varnish, the next restorer, in this case is Taehyung, will have endless scrapings to do. Polyurethane becomes embedded in the paint, which makes most restorers emotionally frustrated. This poorly chosen varnish not only becomes a part of the paint, it makes it difficult to remove because it is scraped along with the original paint by the painter and artist. This then, leads to more restoration work because the objective of a restorer, is to… restore. Using polyurethane just adds into the time working on it. The last time he dealt with polyurethane paintings, he went home with colors drained out from his face. He spent a week on them because he needs to be extra careful to get most of the polyurethane out with minimal damage on the painting.
After the scrapings, he will have to remove the paintings from the old plywood it came with and it was glued with rabbit-skin glue which is the most tedious process, one after the other.
“When it came to the studio, I was holding my breath because the state of it... was just,” Taehyung puffed his cheek and deflated it. Where does he even start? Dented surface, skewed plywood frames, rabbit skin glue, and polyurethane varnish. The owner’s cat sat on the painting. And this painting was already fragile at this time. It was a very old painting auctioned for at least a million dollar. Taehyung almost fainted.
Right. That was how he is. When Taehyung works on a painting, any painting for that matter, of any values of any age, he is consumed by it. Giving it his all, but careful not to leave traces of him as to respect the original painter.Taehyung, as an artist, is mind blowingly authentic. He has unique perceptions towards everything he sees and he was the first few artist you knew that began with taking photographs. Actually, he was the only artist you knew all your life that was intimate enough to have this talk. Back in the days, art students don’t really mingle with science nerds due to unforeseen differences seniors claim to have. You personally were told that art students are too superficial to really want to understand the world and that they see you as a fuss in human form. You believed none of that bullshit.
You have always been the kind to look deeper than what is on the surface, always skin deep. Taehyung noticed this from the first time he laid eyes on you. There was something worth uncovering.
Just like today, when your eyes tunnels into the magnifier to see the photographed version of the painting he was supposed to restore, he gets giddy at the fact that his wife, his forever girlfriend takes so much interest in so many things and is well-versed in all kinds of art despite not being a member of the field. It was at moments like these that he relentlessly wonders why you never considered to seriously take art degrees just like your science stuff.
“Looks flaky, and the dent is so deep…” you commented, craning your neck on his desk as he watches fondly from the side, “You’ll have to patch it up and sew it together…”
The smile melts away and he averted his eyes, tapping his index finger on his knee at the same time. By his demeanor alone, you know that he dislikes this. The work just keeps piling on, and more and more of the original paint is lost. Like a wet on wet painting work, that keeps bleeding color, the painting will have more of Taehyung than it would of its owner. Taehyung let out a sigh you understood so well. You leave the painting’s print on the table with the magnifying glass set away on the corner with the rest of his tools. You bring yourself next to him and put your arm around his neck and the other palm rests on one side of his face, sliding down his chiseled jaws and thumb, tracing his lips. His cologne swims around your nostril, and the smell of his hair that you love, engulfs you. He gathers his arms around your waist, rests his head under your chin and stays like that as long as you both need.
He will be away for long and intimacy of such degree would be difficult to execute. Long tiring week ahead will make you drift you both apart, only to hopefully meet each other like the first time again.
Tumblr media
You remember the first time you laid your eyes on Kim Taehyung. He was helping the waitress picking the pieces of fallen tissues after a minor accident. He looked like he walked out of someone’s innate dream. Clean-shaven, dark brown comma hair, boring a dark brown suit and pants to match. The selfless act was something intriguing to you. It’s so rare to find someone who would take the time to help others in such a fast-paced era where everything has to be quick and perfect. You remember turning away and smiling to yourself, grateful that there’s such men still in the world. You never planned to find any attachments that night, it was just a casual formal gathering that you had to attend in order to remain in the social circle. You actually wanted to leave after thirty minutes, and probably watch a late night movie at a nearby movie theatre to appease yourself.
A drink in your hand, a small talk about how good the eclairs were, and a little bit about your short-term plans; apart from that, there was nothing much. You were never the kind to approach people first, finding more interest in the food than you do the people attending. But not your best friend, not Jimin. He is the loudest, most animatic figure out there, talking about all kinds of things, doing a lot of gags and just, a walking entertainment channel, with his addictive laughter and outgoing personality. Jimin would make friends with a broomstick if it attended. It was because of him that you were dragged into this little dinner party. He said if you come, he will join your presentation that he called boring and asked relevant questions. After careful consideration, and losing a couple of friends because of your hectic college schedule, you had no choice but adhere to his demands.
“Hi,” a succulent honeyed deep voice greeted you from behind, “Where did you get those jelly desserts?”
You glanced at him and when you recognised that he was that dude who helped the waitress, you shot your eyes back to your plate instantly, then jerked your head back up, “From the dessert corner, next to the pillar… I think they haven’t refilled them,” you said to him through a smile. Wow, he was so much taller than you expected. And, smells so nice.
“Oh thank you,” he tutted his tongue and nodded once, before he walked away grinning, “Over there right?” He walks sideways to talk to you still. He almost trips over the folded carpet and you got instantly worried before replying in a haste, “Yes! Oh careful, please!”
He gave an okay sign and puffed his cheeks.
Finding the back of your calves began to strain from the long period of standings, you had to find yourself a bar stool and ate your food alone, while Jimin was throwing his head back at a joke one of his new friends were telling. Someone took the empty seat next to you and sat with a huff.
“We already met twice and I still don’t know your name,” he peels his eyes off of his plate and turns sideways to you, “I’m Taehyung, Kim Taehyung.” You said your name in a hurry with an awkward giggle at the end, before poking your fork into the grapes and shoving them into your mouth.
“Did you come here alone?” he asked. “No, but he looks like he is having fun,” you didn’t specify who it was and Taehyung hung his head low with a dry, “Oh.” “You?” you replied. “Alone,” Taehyung said, “Didn’t plan to stay very long…I was going to catch a movie.”
Your eyes light up, “What movie? Because I’m not staying too!” Taehyung pouts, “Haven’t decided… I was going to decide there and then.”
“It’s nice to watch movies alone ha…” “Helps me recharge…” “What major are you? We’re from the same uni, correct?” “I am. I am an art major, and now more to restoration and conservator.” “Oooo, interesting… Meticulous work. That’s amazing.”
Taehyung then learns that you’re a science major, pharmaceutical technology. It sounded foreign to him, he had never known anyone with a science major, let alone talk to one. They always seem so…
“Fussy? Introverted? Closed up?” you listed. He shakes his head, jutting his lower lip out trying to think of a better adjective to describe, shooting his eyes to the ceiling then to the right. “Guarded,” Taehyung tipped his head to the side, looking at you as he spoke. “I get why we seemed that way,” you swirled your fork around the plate of spaghetti you took and nodded in agreement, “But we’re probably thinking about our gazillion unfinished reports and stressed out about why the results aren’t tally, and forgetting our breakfast, lunch and dinner, being high on caffeine…” you shrugged your shoulder, explaining.
“Doesn’t seem like a healthy way to live,” Taehyung commented, “But I understand the struggle.”
Discussing about the stereotypes, the polar opposites of a science versus art majors lasted longer than you expected. Art majors and science majors actually share more in common than you’d think. For starters, both are extremely meticulous and precise. Taehyung spoke about the specification of colours and blending of several techniques into one art requires an extensive studies of observations and practice. As a conservator, he must recognise personalized styles of close to thousands of painters to differentiate a genuine piece from a copy--a skill that would take years and decades to perfect.
For science, specifics come in the definition of science. There has to be hypotheses to be proven, and theories that aligned with the results. Making medication has several strict rules; and the process, the testing are endless. From the drug is being formulated, to the way it is processed, and how it reacts when it enters the human body, to how long it takes to be expelled and whatever happened in between must be noted. Uniformity, size particles, bottling, storage, etc. are all taken into custody when it comes to making drugs. You told Taehyung about the exhausting 48 sets of 100mL volumetric flask being used in order to determine the complete dissolution of 100mG of paracetamol.
“I get cross-eyed having to stare at the mark, trying not to make mistakes,” you smiled and Taehyung giggled. “I understand about getting cross-eyed,” he added. He continues about having to re-color a varnished painting with a limited set of light in the studio, and not being able to determine what pigment it was until daylight reveals that he was wrong.
“I think art and science are two things humans can’t live without,” you started, looking down at your semi empty plate, “I mean, life depends on science, but art is what makes it worth living.” “Rebecca Atwood,” Taehyung cited. Then you both looked at each other for what seemed the longest time, as if you both had found home in each other.
Your heart clearly whispered, “Where have you been all my life?” And for a period of time, you actually believed it was one-sided. How could someone like Taehyung want to spend time with you. But you guys eventually went to the movies together.
Jimin called midway through the movie. You excused yourself and took the call outside the hall.
“Yo, where art thou? The party’s over, don’t tell me you went home without me,” Jimin nags.
“I’m at the movies, I’ll get the Uber, don’t worry,” you hissed, “No, Jimin, I’m going to be fine. It’s not that late, I’ll call you when I get home. Yes, I know there’s class tomorrow at 2pm, alright bye,” you hang up and rush back inside.
Taehyung looks at you with wondering eyes and you felt inclined to explain, “Jimin. Asked me where I was, and wanted to go home. I said I’ll take the Uber.”
“Uber? No, I can drive you home,” Taehyung offered. You don’t think you should be in a car with someone you barely know so you politely declined. Taehyung however, waited with you for the Uber, and waved you goodbye. He didn’t ask for your number, much to your disappointment. But maybe it was a one night thing for him. It’s not like you expected anything, so why do you carry yourself heavily to your dorm?
It was rare to find someone you could connect to in such a short time. Tonight was a miracle at work, and it was short lifted. Laying down in your bed with the light from your phone shone over your face, you scrolled down Instagram to see your married highschool friend cradling babies. Another friend just got married. Another is half a world away. A few are taking pictures of cute dates they went on. And then there’s you, who is now staring at each one filled with envy and discontent, wondering if anyone will ever find the time to notice you and hopefully fall for you. Deep inside, all you ever wanted was to be in love. Despite you plunge yourself into heavy work in the most strenuous field out there, you were inexplicably lonely. It gets increasingly difficult as you grow older, and your options for men decreases.
They say, everyone has a soulmate. But for some reason, you think God forgot to make yours. Real connection is possibly impossible to find. The love you seek probably doesn’t exist.
And as you turn your phone face down next to you, it vibrated a message in.
Jimin: Are you home yet? Hello? Jimin: So you found Kim Taehyung? From arts? Jimin: He texted me the Uber car’s plate number to make sure I know where you are…
You replied,
You: yes.. You: you know taehyung??
Jimin: uh yeah. Orientation week together. Campmates. Jimin: how was it? You: he was nice… Jimin: You cold-blooded women. You: XD
The next day was your presentation. After spotting Jimin in the crowd, you immediately felt better. Some familiar faces would be nice. Final year project presentations can be brutal. Some of the questions you expected would be the purpose, the motive, the need for this project to be funded and why it carries such significance. Sometimes what you expect doesn't happen, and because of that you get very disheartened and disappointed. No matter how brave you decide to be, your body protests and rebels against your wishes. The way the bottle tremble in your hands shows how much this is hammering your dignity. It is as if you expected to be humiliated. You glanced down to your heavily arrowed notes and scribbles, closing your eyes as you stood in the back stage, mentally preparing yourself. How to be bulletproof?
Had he not helped the girl to purchase a canned coffee from the vending machine, he would not have been late, Taehyung thought. Now he creeps in the back of the lecture hall, carrying his own opened canned drink. There was an extra unopened canned coffee drink he snuck in. You had already started your presentations. Does he have the mental capacity for this new information? Of course. There were a few terms he wasn’t familiar with, but it was not enough to bore him. Your simpler explanation the night you met actually helped a lot. The oozing charisma you carry and the calm way you carry yourself was something worth looking up to. It was the kind that he actually envied about you. He had a feeling that you weren’t showing all parts of you and because of that, he was intrigued. Even as he sat there as an audience, completely at awe of your presentation, you were magnetic.
Not a single one person in that auditorium was paying their attention elsewhere. Being able to draw such dedication and passion is a talent. And it was all Kim Taehyung wished he could do.
“With all the existing medication with the same purpose, what good would a research in the same area pose? A renewal?” “And what about the gene-specific cancer studies that are already initiated since 2004? Haven’t we spent enough on that?” “What about the ethical issues surrounding the existing CRISPR, the so-called genetic-specific medications?”
The questions from the PhD holders you presented were all valid. You agreed.
“As a scientist, we understand that our research will continue far after our death. Many researches are done without a clear view of where the finish line is. If we want to talk about ethical issues regarding gene modifications, we have done them on all the things we could consume, grow and breed. If we have the power to prevent abnormality before it becomes one, why do we second guess ourselves? Isn’t the purpose of science to better understand, and then to prevent? To create a better living?”
The room fell into a deathly silence, and you were inclined to go back to your statements but when you dragged your eyes to the corner of the room, you saw some juniors nodding in agreement to what you’ve just said, you regained a little ounce of confidence. “But we haven’t truly understood the after effects of gene modifications. And through all prolonged research thus far, it doesn’t suggest a good result. How do you guarantee a perceptible study in the development of the medication you’re proposing?”
. . . Sniffles greeted Taehyung at the door he pushed opened gently. You were standing by the handrails on the faculty’s rooftop, the papers you brought in scattered around the ground. Some are drained into the pool of water puddle from last night’s rain. Digging the heels of your palm into your eyes, you heard the door creaked open and jumped.
“I’m sorry…” Taehyung whispered. You glanced over your shoulder at him and then turned away. Not because of anger or fear, but from shame. You have never shown anyone this timid side of you. You’re always expected to be strong, and you took that mask on literally. Having someone witnessing your vulnerability is as foreign as the sight of a shooting star. How unlucky for Taehyung, you thought.
“I bought you…” he placed the canned drink on the ground, next to where you placed your backpack, “A canned coffee.”
“How did you,” you sniffed, “How did you know that the presentations’ today?” “You told me the night we met?” he answered, in a confused tone.
And you gave him a lopsided smile, “Oh right. I’m not used to people remembering my errands. Jimin never does. No one ever does.”
“I am not actually good at remembering. But for some reason, yours was unforgettable,” he added an awkward chuckle at the end, scratching the back of his head not sure why he finds conversation with you feel homey. Sincerity and honesty comes naturally like breathing the air in.
“I did a crap job at presenting, didn’t I?” it was a statement, pretentiously laid out as a question.
But Taehyung knew better than to cement the depressive thought. Then he scooted near to you, and coil to your side, to give you a puppy eyed bright smile.
Tumblr media
That was when you first knew a Kim Taehyung. Everything else that happened after that seemed like a story written just for you. But loving Kim Taehyung didn’t come without challenges. When you love a man as attractive as that, there will be wandering eyes directed towards him. And you have your own fair share of evil eyes directed at you. How can a science nerd catch the attention of an art student? It was totally unheard off. Had Taehyung paid any attention to those thirsty hyenas, you would have given up the fight. However, this is Taehyung you’re talking about. Once he had his eyes set to a person, he developed tunnel vision only to that person.
For years, you struggled with perfection. And the thing about the struggle is that it was common to everyone, but so few would understand. Perfection quickly becomes a disease to over-achievers. Had it not been Taehyung, you would probably engage in an insufferable discontentment towards life and everything it has to offer. Everything changed when he handed you a paint brush and a 200-sized plain white canvas and a studio to yourself.
You felt liberated.
Not knowing where your illustrations will take you was the first taste of freedom you had ever allowed yourself to feel. Because in the arts, there are no wrongs or rights. And it's uniquely yours. And the look on Taehyung’s face when it's done? Priceless. To the point that you think you began drawing because of him and that he was just saying the things you wanted to hear. Then he hangs your drawings in the open hall, and brings home the comments written by the art lovers to prove that you are wrong.
When it comes to relationship turbulences, Taehyung and you personally respect each other’s space, friendship choices and principles. Such maturity is again rare so you’d like to think that you’re lucky in that sense. However, Taehyung’s family proved to be a massive hurdle. While you were raised in a humble home, and accustomed to having sleep as dinners, Taehyung’s family owns a collection of farms that produces vegetables and fruits, and Taehyung’s favourites happen to be strawberries. He surely is raised in an upper middle class well into his elementary years and then catapulted into first class around his high school time. Not to say that he doesn’t know what it’s like to starve, he has a fairshare of that in his rebellious years; but he was not used to the life you lead. The part-time jobs, the tutoring weekends, the errands. He never had to do those.
When he brought you home to his parents for the first time, you felt out of place. His penthouse, his army of maids, sports cars and spacious area. His parents, they were wonderful. They welcomed you with open arms. Even inviting you to a family-only event, introducing you to everyone, and then letting you see their family photo albums. Taehyung has a massive support system, a healthy relationship compared to yours. No matter how much he wants to convince you that his life isn’t perfect, it was a whole lot better than yours. You remember how he snuck you into his bedroom in the middle of the night when his parents were asleep, the snickering, the whispers and the night you shared, cuddling. You had tears in your eyes that night, because you never thought you’d be this fortunate.
Watching him fall asleep in your lap so soundly really made you think about the last time you ever made someone this comfortable. Is this how it feels to love and cherish? Finding a middle ground is not always easy, and most people take time to reach there. For Taehyung and you, sacrificing a lot comes without say. Your internal conflicts and his willingness to understand your perspective, and vice versa--it all takes time. You can owe it all to Taehyung’s ultimate patience. Just like the way he handles his work. Meticulously, and carefully. Like how chemicals are precise, the paints are too.
In every phase of life, we are being prepared for the phase that comes next. In accordance to what we are made of, we continue to evolve, continue to grow. And it is in this stage that we feel most vulnerable, most bare, most uncomfortable. Sometimes you dread the things that you weren’t allowed to have, much like the doctorate you sought after (that took much longer than others), the way it was withheld from you because life said you weren’t ready yet, even when you thought you were. Waiting patiently becomes the hardest part of it all. Although Taehyung might not understand half the things you went through, isn't he still here? Isn’t he still holding your hand? Isn’t he still singing to you?
Fine arts are creative art, especially visual art whose products are to be appreciated primarily or solely for their imaginative, aesthetic, or intellectual content. If that’s the case, then Taehyung must be finer arts.

Whoops, didn’t mean to post this so late. Time’s gotten away from me this week, haha. Anyways, a few ask replies are below the cut!
Tumblr media
Aw, I’m glad you’re enjoying the comic! It’s the best feeling knowing that folks are liking what I’m putting out. ^^
And yep, bosses are being done in order! I’ll list them out below with how I’m handling each of them for simplicity’s sake:
King Slime -- Will be mentioned, but won’t appear. Probably defeated by a previous hero? I’m not sure, but Chris won’t be fighting it.
Eye of Cthulhu -- The first boss Chris fights.
Eater of Worlds -- Most likely an on-screen boss fight? I’m debating.
Brain of Cthulhu -- This is a Corruption world, so it’s not included.
Queen Bee -- Mentioned, though cut for time.
Skeletron -- Plot important boss battle!
Wall of Flesh -- Also plot important boss battle; actually one of the first scenes I had figured out for the comic, haha.
Mech Bosses/Plantera/Golem -- These most likely will be fought, but I’m not sure how I’ll be handling them. The Mechs at least are plot relevant, we’ll see about the other two.
Optional Hardmode Bosses -- Queen Slime, Duke Fishron, etc. will be cut for time.
Event Bosses -- Things like the Pumpkin/Frost Moon and so on won’t be included.
Other Events -- Solar eclipse, blood moon, etc.; may or may not be included depending on how the story flows with them.
Lunatic Cultist/Celestial Events/Moon Lord -- again, plot important.
Do keep in mind that the above is subject to some change depending on what I want to include, as well as just what I want to be on/off screen. I never really know how I’m going to handle something until I’m actually writing/drafting/sketching that chapter, save for a few scenes that I’ve had planned from the beginning, haha.
Tumblr media
Firstly, 🎉🎉🎉 for 200 followers!!!
And as for the question -- it’s a really long story actually, haha. Hence why I’m putting this ask last.
So, I’ve owned a copy of Terraria on Steam since early 2016; I had bought another game and needed something cheap to finish off the gift card. Spent like five minutes on it, said no thanks, and went on. Opened it again a few years later, played for an hour and got frustrated at the controls/opening doors/not understanding tools and put it down again. I only got into it come 1.4 -- having access to journey mode meant I had a lot more freedom to do what I wanted, and since I had previously played a little, I was no longer totally confused by the game.
I went through my first playthrough pretty much blind, and had a lot of fun! I tend to make up little stories while playing open world games, and since I only started playing Terraria after the NPC happiness mechanic came out, I put a lot of effort into getting everyone little houses with their friends and such. I put in a few dozen hours, had a blast, and that was that.
Because it was my first playthrough, I was mostly relying on the Guide and a boss progression list I had pulled up on my phone to get through the game, though to figure out housing I ended up spending a while screwing around on the NPC pages, and realized...hey! Terraria doesn’t have *much* of a story, but it does have enough content to work with.
And then I spent an evening putting together a 20 page document about the game’s lore and characters because I wanted to share my latest fixation with my partner, but didn’t want to annoy them. I don’t recall if they ever did read it -- I think they did? -- but the point is that I had it, and started playing around with the idea of writing a little fanfic based off of it. I planned a few things out, but didn’t end up writing any of it, and then shelved the idea after a little bit.
After that I went through a phase of doing a lot of commissions to get some money for college shopping, then classes started and I was busy, then I got really into HLVRAI, etc. etc. Finally, someone I used to watch years and years ago on youtube posted a Frankenstein: A New Musical animatic. I said “cool!” and then Frankenstein was my latest fixation. I found someone on Tumblr (@/reanimationstation) who draws a lot of Frankenstein art, saw they were doing a cute little gothic lit slice of life comic, and said...hey, comics are pretty neat! What if I did one? I had been recently thinking about my Terraria story, that could be fun to mess with.
So, I drew a two-page comic with the Guide and Old Man talking about their curses, posted it to Reddit, and got tons of nice comments and PMs from people saying that they really liked it and hoped I did some more. I had mentioned it was part of an old fic of mine (I was still debating picking it back up and writing it at the time), and people interpreted that as there being more to the comic. There wasn’t, but I figured: eh, why not? I’ll go for ten pages, enough to squish in a whole first chapter if I keep it short, and if I don’t like it, I’ll stop. I’d always wanted to do a webcomic, after all. This could be fun.
And you know what? It has been fun! I need to get better at managing my time most certainly, since pages take so long, but it’s also serving as a way for me to actually be forced to improve, haha. I can already see how much my style has changed since the first chapter, just from the weekly drawings! Plus, I really do love the characters, haha. It’s been a good while since I’ve been so passionate about stuff like this, and while I don’t post them, I do pretty often write goofy ficlets about the characters just to work on their “voices” and all that. Mostly about Andrew and Chris, since they’ll have the most screen time, so to speak, but overall whatever my latest silly idea is.
So, yeah! Just a bunch of things coming together in such a way that I ended up doing a comic.

Let It Burn - A Dream SMP Analysis
‘Let it burn’ is a song performed by RED. A link to their song will be in the first reblog. This was requested by @firefly464. Like my analysis of ‘Your Sister was right’ and ‘Call them brothers’, this will be a lyric by lyric basis. Also like the previous analysis, this will implement me going ‘also imagine a scene…’, because I have ideas
I watch the city burn Wilbur, Techno and Dream want chaos. They want to watch the city burn, and so far they have not succeeded in creating that vision. Wilbur watching the city burn would have been something he longed for These dreams like ashes float away L’Manburg/Manburg was formed on dreams. Dreams to sell drugs, dreams to gain freedom. Burning/bombing the city wouldn’t only have destroyed the city, it would have destroyed the dreams that founded it. Your voice I never heard Only silence Tommy tried to get Wilbur to see reason, and Wilbur refused, wanting to blow up the city he founded. The only thing that stopped Wilbur from blowing up Manburg was Tommy refusing to leave the room. Where were you when our hearts were bleeding Where were you when it all crashed down Tubbo or Nikki getting upset at Wilbur for not being there for them when they were forced to pull down the walls pog Never thought that you'd deceive me Nikki wasn’t told about the bombs, she would have been killed in the blasts. She wasn’t told until Wilbur brought her into Pogtopia, and she was basically decieved into believing that Wilbur and (to a larger extent) Pogtopia was going to free them. Where are you now Tubbo was executed for sneaking around and meeting up with Tommy and Wilbur. He was executed because Schlatt didn’t know where he was at all times. How long can you stand the pain How long will you hide your face Tubbo hid close to Schlatt, convincing almost everyone that he was on Schlatt’s side. It surprised everyone when he was caught for it, because Tubbo hid his ‘true face’ from Manburg. How long will you be afraid Are you afraid Tubbo would have been fucking terrified of getting caught, and when he was caught he hid his fear because he thought that Techno was on his side How long will you play this game Will you fight or will you walk away Tubbo pretended to be on Schlatts side for years (as Quackity put it during the festival stream), and in the end he didnt get to make the choice between fighting or walking away, being murdered and then exiled. How long will you let it burn Let it burn Let it burn Tubbo said the line for Wilbur to raze the city to the ground. He wanted to watch it blow up. I watch the city burn Tommy wanted to be unbanned from Manburg. He doesn’t want chaos, he wants to reclaim the country/city he founded, fought and died for. These passions slowly smouldering Tommy traded his disks, which were his passion through the story of the smp, for the city, and to watch the city burn would have been the same as watching the disks burn A lesson never learned Only violence As Techno said - the language of the smp is violence. Tommy tries to avenge Tubbo by fighting Techno in the pit, Wilbur tries to regain Manburg by blowing it up. They learn violence, not peace. Is your world just a broken promise Wilbur promised Tommy and Tubbo a safe place in L’Manburg. It was a promise, and it was broken, not out of his own fault. Is your love just a drop of rain Will we all just burn our fire Are you still there Wilbur doesn’t seem like himself, and Tommy could fucking tell. Wilbur isnt ‘there’ so to speak. How long can you stand the pain How long will you hide your face Tommy didn’t like Wilbur’s plans, but he went along with it anyway, not helping nor hindering the plan. How long will you be afraid Are you afraid Tommy was afraid of losing L’Manburg, and Wilbur could tell. Wilbur could tell that Tommy was scared. How long will you play this game Will you fight or will you walk away Tommy fought. He fought Wilbur, and Techno, and Dream, but ultimately he left with Nikki and Tubbo. How long will you let it burn Tommy asking Wilbur this question in regards to Manburg in an animatic is *chefs kiss* amazing Let it burn Let it burn Wilbur only hearing ‘let it burn’ pog? Will you wait until it all burns down Will you hide until it all burns down Will it hurt when it all burns down Will you fight when it all burns down Will you stand when it all burns down Will you love when it all burns down Will it end when it all burns down Will you just let it all burns down Just,,, these two verses in an animatic having the different Manburgians (and Pogtopia citizens and Dream SMP peeps) being shown is just,,,, a vibe.  How long can you stand the pain How long will you hide your face Nikki screaming at Schlatt, finally saying that she doesn’t even want to be in Manburg because Tubbo being executed was the last straw is just so poetic How long will you be afraid Are you afraid Nikki finding out about the bombs, about the plan that would have killed her, heart wrenching and fun as shit How long will you play this game Will you fight or will you walk away Nikki leaving Manburg for Pogtopia, and then Pogtopia for Tubbo and Tommy’s ‘lets not be evil’ faction is poetic and beautiful How long will you let it burn Imagine the trust issues that Nikki would have, after finding out that Wilbur didn’t trust her, and would have blown her up Let it burn Schlatt burnt the trust between him and Quackity Let it burn Wilbur refound the button Let it burn Techno is ready with withers Let it burn Tommy and Quackity stopped Wilbur for blowing up Manburg for now Let it burn Fundy is now in Tubbo’s place, and he’s still a spy

Thomceit Hamilton AU Cast
Alrighty, here it is- the post about my Thomceit Hamilton AU that I took like three days to write, hoo boy-
Okay so, this is just the cast of the AU and also just going into some ship ramblings because if I got into the whole thing now, we’d be here for days- so let’s get on with it!
----
The Sanders Sides Characters Roles
~Just to clarify, I’m doing this TS Universe by TS Universe, because there’s a LOT of characters in both fandoms, so the cast are gonna be updated with each reblog~
Alexander Hamilton: Janus
Why? Well, the colour theme’s for the album match Janus’ general colour aesthetic, Janus is all about taking that chance no matter what and Alex is all about not throwing away his shot, both have got that lawyer association aaaaaaaand I’m just kidding, I wanted to make a Thomceit Helpless animatic in the August of 2019- I never had any plans for this thing, it just happened.
But yeah- dramatic snake boy lawyer meets dramatic Founding Father lawyer-
----
The Schuyler Sisters:
Angelica: Roman
Roman just radiates fabulous, feminist, older sibling vibes- just imagine him in Angelica’s dress but a bit more red and you’ve got it down!
Satisfied also radiates Roman vibes- the pink-red colour scheme, the sacrifice, the longing and pining- it all works so well for him! I can also imagine him in Congratulations- especially with the lines ‘He doesn’t dignify schoolyard taunts with a response!’, ‘...Sacrifice?’ and ‘Eliza~ is the BEST thing in our lives!’ especially since I’m making Thomas Eliza here, because, in some cases, it really parallels what actually happened in the series:
Roman sacrificed the thing he most wanted (Janus/the callback) for Thomas (Eliza/his core) because he wanted what was best for him and what was right for him- and in both cases, he was wrong! My boy either doesn’t get to chase his dreams and feels miserable about it, or he gets cheated on and feels miserable about it- there’s no winning here! (Can you tell that I felt no remorse whilst writing this? /hj)
Also, I thought the line 'He doesn’t dignify schoolyard taunts with a response!’ didn’t really apply to Janus when I initially made this, but HOO BOY was I wrong-
Eliza: Thomas
Can you tell that Thomceit is my favourite ship? No? You can’t? Well I’m just about to take off the blindfold you’re wearing and talk about much of an amazing husband Thomas would be-
First though, I have to say, Thomas gives off such Eliza vibes on his own anyways- cinnamon bun that needs to be protected and has gone through a lot? Uh, yes!
Thomas would absolutely be the type to fall head over heels for a cute guy he saw across the room (I mean we all saw FWSA, right?). He'd see Janus and be all 'Wait, frick, handsome boy- what do I do- ROMAN-' and I love that so much.
Ironically though, Hamilton was the one who really fell hard, historically at least, so the fact that in this AU Thomas falls like Eliza did but in the 'canon' Janus and Hamilton are both the actual simps is hilarious to me-
He would totally be the supportive partner he was always meant to be- assuring Janus everything will turn out fine and being sweet and caring like he always is.
On the flip side. Thomas is probably one of the only characters who would actually bite back when cheated on too. Patton is a great option for Eliza, but because Patton is associated the most with nostalgia as a character, I don't think he'd be burning any letters any time soon, he'd hold on to those memories- but Thomas would probably burn the letters as soon as he got the chance, in order to try and forget everything- to burn all the memories. Also, I just wanna see Thomas raging at Janus in First Burn- can you imagine how badass he would be? The passion and fury radiating from him in that song would be just *chef's kiss* incredible!
And here's the strongest argument I have: Eliza is the person who tells the story, of Hamilton, of the soldiers, of Washington- and who is responsible for telling us what goes on in the TS Universe?
Thomas.
I rest my case! (There wasn't one to begin with but shhhh)
(Also, Hamilton and Eliza had 8 kids, and we all know Thomas is the tired mother of 6 children-)
And Peggy (hah): Remus
The main reason for this is, as I'm sure you can guess, because I made Roman Angelica. I mean, how could I not make Remus Peggy? I do have some legitimate reasons though.
Peggy has always been given the chaotic younger sister energy in the fandom, basically the Gen Z child- and Remus embodies Gen Z's chaos perfectly, it's honestly kind of scary. Remus would absolutely be the sibling who's just there to vibe and cause chaos, but would totally be there to help if you wanted it.
The problem here, is that Peggy is constantly asking about the girls' father in Schuyler Sisters, and worrying about consequences- which is not a Remus thing at ALL, but I can imagine Remus asking those questions like '👀 So what's the dealio?' And then being delighted at the responses that come from the others like 'YEAH- Let's break the rules!'
Peggy was also very good friends with Hamilton historically, and we all know Janus and Remus are best friends (that's not canon, but it is now)!
So- Peggy and Remus! Let's go!
----
The Hamilsquad (Sides! Edition):
Aaron Burr: Logan
Logan is the most logical (hah) character to play Burr in my opinion:
Burr kills Hamilton, and Logan is probably the only Side who could actually defeat Janus in some way (Logic overcrowds the lies and reasons its way out of them), and if having a presence and some control got Janus to sink down, then what would happen to Janus if he Logan had full control?
Logan, like Burr, wants to be in the Room Where it Happened- he wants to be listened to- that's self-explanatory, but what gets interesting to me is the waiting ideology both of them have.
We all know Burr waits for opportunities- he had a whole song on it! But what people tend to forget is that Logan has also waited for chances and holds back opinions- the best example would be in LNTAO, where he admits to Thomas that he's been holding back his opinions for far too long and that he doesn't think people take Thomas seriously enough.
That 'wait for the right moment attitude' is instilled in both of them- and while Janus also partially has that attitude, he's also got a 'Leap for the chance and take it' attitude- which is why I can imagine him telling Logan 'You get love for it, you get hate for it- you get nothing if you wait for it' and 'What do you want Burr?'
He'd be the one to ask 'When are you finally going to take a stand and say "I want to be heard?" When are you going to take the chance?'
John Laurens: Virgil
Virgil's role as Laurens is mainly because of symbolism- the idea that you had these two great friends who were in it together, and one of them left (either this life or the Others) and that tore them apart in one way or the other.
Also, Laurens and Hamilton were hiding something- those letters said A LOT, and Jan and Virge act like two ex-boyfriends, like what is this-
----
Theodosia Sr.: Patton
This may just be my Logicality heart screaming, but I think this makes sense- Theodosia always gave off a sweet, soft motherly energy even though we never see her on screen or hear her voice. From what he heard about her, she seemed to be the loving mother character (Eliza was more the loving wife and widow figure, but she did have motherly traits for sure), and we all know Patton would rock the loving mother figure role- there isn't really much more to it.
----
I think that's all I can really say on the Sides characters' roles! There's gonna be more to this but this is a lot as it is, and I wanted to get this done ASAP.
So ye! I hope you enjoyed reading this and are looking forward about what's to come!

Explore the Abyss with Me? -Unleash the Archers
So I have a new special-interest of late, and it’s frustrating in that unlike most of my special interests its fairly niche, and there’s basically no fan-content…I’m not trying to be all, “look I’m so cool, I like this thing that no-one else does!”, it’s more that it’s not the sort of thing that fans usually create content for…Because it’s a heavy metal album you see…
Abyss by Unleash the Archers has become my latest obsession of late, and not just because its bloody good music. No, what I’m obsessed with and currently having an Autistic fixation with is the story that the album tells, and the way it does this through both lyrics and music. Abyss follows on from their previous album Apex to tell what I’ve found to be a really emotional story of self-discovery, hope and destiny, and I find myself vividly imagining scenes with the music and head cannons between some of the characters, etc… This is the sort of fan-passion that makes me really want to share this obsession with my friends and mutuals, however like I said there’s not exactly much fan-content…If I was better at drawing, I’d absolutely attempt to make some animatics for the songs, but that’s not a project for an amateur artist to tackle…
So instead I’ve decided to start simple and create some cool moodboards and image collages to go with each song, along with lyrics that resonate strongly with me, and a brief description of the plot and story as the album goes along in order. Each song flows into one another and tells a 1-hour epic story that is really made to be enjoyed together in order, however each song is also a lovely, distinct banger to be honest. I hope that at least some of you will come on this journey with me and see why I’m so enthralled by Unleash the Archers’ breathtaking masterpiece. I’m also going to be linking to each song, and I sincerely hope that at least some people give them a listen as well- the lead singer has one hell of a voice and fantastic lungs, and every member of the band is incredibly talented. I understand that metal isn’t for everyone though (its not like too heavy-screamo I will say, its fucking gorgeous instrumental metal), and so I wanted to be able to tell and share the story without music as well. Or at least, to make people curious enough to try listening to a few songs even if it isn’t their usual style.
So please, indulge me and my current obsession, and explore Abyss with me? I’ll be using the hashtag #obsessed with abyss if you would prefer to avoid these posts for absolutely any reason (that’s your prerogative and I won’t be offended at all), or if you want to find them easily. One final note – I super recommend following the plot through the lyrics as you go, as sometimes the music can bury these awesome and powerful lines a bit (I’ll put full lyrics under the cut in each post).
Please remember that of course, this is my own, personal interpretation of the plot and characters! Let’s jump right into Abyss!

How did you find out about Hamilton? And what was your first thought/reaction?
Okay, so this is a long story, but I will condense it as much as I can!
I’ve heard about Hamilton a lot, but never really thought about it. I was never into musicals to begin with, and I just didn’t care. I then read a book (I can’t remember the title, but @gagakumadraws has it right now) and the main character is absolutely obsessed with Hamilton. Like, they break up because the other guy won tickets but was late to getting it and they realized how toxic they were together.
Anyway, I thought it was an interesting thing, but never thought more into it. Fast forward to college. I was watching a lot of animatics and I found a BNHA animatic of stay alive (reprise) with Izuku dying, and All Might being Alexander. So it interested me from the song.
I was on a 3 hour bus ride home and I had nothing else to do, so I looked up the whole musical in animatic form because I hate bootlegs with a passion. I want to see the story, and I didn’t know Hamilton enough to put up with that. (Spoiler alert, I put up with it later when I really wanted to see it before the Disney pro shot came out).
So I watched it and saw amazing artists like Ziksua and Szin in the complitaion! I immediately fell in love with the musical, though I had no fucking clue what was going on. I didn’t realize it was a Historical musical until George Washington was mentioned and I was like “what the actual fuck???”
So I kept watching, and I got hooked. From that moment on, I would obsessively listen to it on spotify. I bugged @gagakumadraws for what had to be weeks or months to finally give the musical a chance. She kept saying no, but I bugged her enough and she got into it and now look at us. I fell in love with it so much that I was able to write more content for this musical than I have ever been able to in any other fandom combined!
Sorry, long answer lmao

As I’ll Ever Be (Chapter One)
Summary: Roman is a knight who serves beneath Thomas, the newly appointed (and, unfortunately, widely disliked) prince of a medieval kingdom. When he stumbles across a mysterious, yellow-eyed man who offers him a handful of roses and a shining kingdom of his own, he couldn't possibly refuse — but things are not always as wonderful as they seem. (A novelization of @thepastelpeach‘s "Ready As I'll Ever Be" animatic.)

There was nothing quite like an October morning on the palace grounds.
Warm autumn sunlight filtered into the courtyard through red-orange leaves, casting dappled shadows over the knights who trained on the field. A gentle breeze carried with it both the clattering of blades and the crisp, cool scent of a brisk fall day. Booming laughter bounced off the weathered stone walls that enclosed the training grounds; most of these laughs, of course, came from one knight in particular, who was in the process of dominating a sparring match with this morning’s challenger.
He dodged and parried with expert skill, anticipating each flick of his opponent’s sword a millisecond before it came. One arm was tucked behind his back — partially to show off, partially because he was curious to find out if he could win that way. He couldn’t help the half-smile that pulled at his mouth as he swung down hard and knocked his opponent off balance.
“Nice one, Roman!” someone called out from the group of onlookers. The knight’s grin grew, and he struck with renewed passion.
Jab, dodge, swing. Watch your step, fake him out, duck, thrust, lunge —
A sharp clang rang across the courtyard, and the opponent’s blade found a new home on the cobbled stones beneath his feet. The onlookers roared in approval; Roman raised his arms in celebration of his victory, allowing himself a small bow in their direction before turning to shake his opponent’s hand.
“Maybe next time, friend,” Roman told him. The other knight scooped up his weapon and jogged back toward the crowd just as another figure — one clad all in black, with a leather satchel slung across his shoulders and a windswept look about him — emerged from behind it.
“Make way for the messenger,” a knight said, giving a mock tip of an imaginary hat as he passed.
“Ah, Virgil!” Roman waved him over. “Just the man I wanted to see. Up for a sparring match?”
The messenger arched an eyebrow. “You do realize I have a job, right? I don’t come out here every morning just to swing a knife with you.”
“Well, you’re much more skilled with a blade than these fellows. Quite frankly, I could use the competition.” Roman gestured vaguely at the other knights (and grimaced when he realized they were listening). He raised his sword in Virgil’s direction, pointing at it with his free hand. “Just one round?”
Virgil made a face like he was still deliberating, but he had already tightened the strap on his satchel. “One round,” he agreed. Roman beamed at him as he drew his dagger.
These morning sparring matches had gone on almost as long as Roman had had his knighthood, but they never failed to put a spring in his step. He lunged and dodged with expert precision; he revelled in each clang of blade against blade. A grin, even bigger than the last, graced his lips as he and the messenger danced around each other, laughing and ducking and spinning across the bright green grass, putting on a show for the onlooking knights.
Roman watched as Virgil swung at an opening, then intercepted him at the last possible second, catching their blades in a perfect X that flashed with refracted light.
“You’ll have to try harder than that!” Roman said, and Virgil smirked at him.
“I plan to,” he said. He leapt backward, and the fight resumed.
For nearly a minute, it was unclear who had the upper hand. These fights were always a toss up; they were almost perfectly matched. When Roman struck, Virgil parried. When Virgil jabbed, Roman jumped. It seemed as though this fight could go on for eternity without ever declaring a winner —
— and then Virgil’s dagger flew from his grasp, soaring in a perfect arc that caught the sun just right before it clattered to the ground some three yards away. He heaved a sigh, and Roman laughed.
“Well fought!” he said. He closed the space between them with two short strides and clapped Virgil on the shoulder.
“Likewise,” Virgil huffed, rolling his eyes and making the trek across the courtyard to where his dagger lay innocently on the stones. “Now if you don’t mind, your worship, I’ve got messages to deliver.”
“Any for me?”
“Always for you,” Virgil chuckled. He slipped the dagger back into its scabbard at his waist as he knelt to the ground, rummaging through his bag. “You should know by now that you’ve got a fan club.”
Roman placed his hands on his hips in what he hoped was a nonchalant gesture (but definitely wasn’t). “Oh, I wouldn’t call it that.”
“A small horde of admirers that send you love letters every day?” Virgil scoffed. “Yeah, fan club.”
“They’re not love letters!”
Virgil tugged one from his satchel with a flourish. “Sir Roman,” he read in the most theatrical tone he could muster. “Not a day goes by when I don’t send my thanks to the heavens for your rescuing me the week before last. At night, I dream only of your —” he paused to stifle a laugh “— your beautiful eyes, and —
“Okay, okay, maybe that one is a love letter,” Roman conceded, snatching it from the messenger’s hand to read the rest. “But can you blame them, really? I am very cool.” He swung his sword in an intricate circle around his right wrist for dramatic effect.
“So cool,” Virgil deadpanned. He peered up at the sky, shielding his face with the back of his hand, and squinted. “I should go. It’s already getting late.”
“Don’t have too much fun without me!” Roman said, sheathing his sword to take the rest of his letters.
“Oh, I plan to,” Virgil said. He walked backwards to face Roman as he pulled his cowl up over his head, giving a short, two-fingered salute before turning around and hopping the brick wall that led to the main castle grounds and the city beyond them.
Once Roman had finished waving at Virgil’s increasingly distant figure, he turned back to his fellow knights. “That seems like enough for this morning,” he said, “don’t you think?” The knights nodded in agreement, and he smiled. “It’s settled, then. Off to lunch!”
With a few dozen knights in tow, Roman led the charge back toward the stables, chatting blithely with his compatriots about the day’s upcoming patrols and humbly accepting congratulations on his expert sparring technique.
In the shadow of the trees that lined the training grounds, there was a quiet rustle and the glint of an eye. Nobody noticed it, of course.
They would soon wish they had.
For most of the castle staff, mornings meant sweeping the floors and laying out meals. The palace woke up with the rising sun, taking its time just as the rest of the kingdom did. The prince’s bed was made, the busts were dusted, the curtains were drawn open to let in the weak autumn light. Yes; for most, mornings meant peace and quiet.
For Logan, they meant work. (Patton often tried to convince him that the rest of the staff did hard work as well, but Logan didn’t buy it.)
“First off,” he was saying, bespectacled eyes turned down toward a scroll of parchment in his hands, “is the matter of All Hallow’s Eve. We must finalize decisions our on budget, itinerary, decorations, music, activities —”
It was at this point that Logan realized the prince wasn’t paying him the slightest semblance of attention. Instead, he stared out the window of the main hall, hands pressed against the sill, seemingly lost in thought. He gazed over the bustling city and the rolling hills beyond, looking far away into the sprawling forest that bordered the kingdom.
“My lord,” Logan said, to no response. He cleared his throat; still nothing. With a sigh, he set his scroll down on a nearby table and said, “Thomas.”
At long last, the prince turned, looking almost startled. “Sorry! Guess I was a little distracted.” If his demeanor hadn’t given that away, the state of his being certainly would have; his overcoat, usually crisp and pressed, was wrinkled all over. His cuffs weren’t buttoned at the wrists, and the top buckles of his right boot were done up entirely crooked.
“Distracted,” Logan muttered. “That’s one way of putting it.”
“What were you saying?”
Logan pinched the bridge of his nose. “The All Hallow’s Eve festival, my lord. If you’ll pardon my candor, we’re coming down to the wire here.” With less than two weeks left before the festivities were set to start, this was something of a trivialization.
“Oh! Of course.” Thomas nodded slowly, biting his bottom lip as he let this sink in. “One question, though.”
“Ask away.”
“How much am I allowed to spend?”
Logan plucked the scroll off the table and went back to scanning its contents. “Considering a large portion of this kingdom’s gripe with your rule is your financial habits,” he said, “my best estimate would be not much.”
“But I — ugh.” Thomas pressed the heels of his hands to his eyes and let a long, slow breath out through his mouth. “This is hard.” He began to walk toward the grand oak doors that led to the courtyard, and Logan followed.
“I understand that it’s difficult,” Logan assured him (even though he didn’t), “but you owe this festival to your people. Public opinion has not been very strongly in your favor since you took over the throne. The kingdom needs a distraction.”
“You think I don’t know that?” Thomas asked, a look of hurt in his eyes. “I’m trying so hard, Logan, but nothing I do is right. I feel like… like this isn’t meant to be my job, you know? Like I’m filling in for someone who actually knows what they’re doing.”
Logan opened his mouth to reply, but before he could, another voice came from an open window just behind them. “Don’t say that!”
They turned to find Patton, the castle’s odd-job man, leaning toward them over the stone sill with a cleaning rag in his hand. His round glasses glinted with morning sunlight, obscuring his eyes as he said, “You’re great at your job! Everyone loves you, I just know it.”
“To put it kindly,” Logan said, “that is a monumental overstatement. It is, however, a pleasant sentiment.”
“You really need to work on your definition of ‘kindly,’” Thomas said, burying his face in his hands yet again.
“My ‘kindness’ to you is having your best interests at heart, my lord,” Logan said. He failed to mask his disdain for the word but plowed on nevertheless. “I want nothing more than to see public opinion turn back in your favor, and this festival is the best way to bring about that change.”
“But… hmm.” Patton squinted like he was trying to puzzle something out. “If everyone’s upset about how he’s spending money already, why should he spend more money on a big festival?”
“Yeah,” Thomas said, nodding along. “What if we sent some support out to the border instead? Relief funds for the Dragon Witch’s attack last spring? Or —”
“If you spend vast amounts of money on the poor, the rich will complain,” Logan said. His tone was that of someone explaining simple math to a very small child for the fifteenth time. “If you spend nothing at all, the economy will dwindle. Your most promising option at the present moment is something that will engage the entire kingdom as we attempt to find a more long-term solution.”
“But —” Thomas began. He was cut off by the sound of hooves clattering up the walkway.
Roman approached from the stables at top speed, sitting astride his white stallion. “Thomas!” he called, slowing to a halt and jumping to the ground. He skidded up to the prince and gave a hasty little bow. “Er — sorry — my liege!”
“My name’s still Thomas, Ro,” Thomas sighed. He leaned heavily against the stone wall behind him and rubbed at his temple. “What do you need?”
Logan went back to scanning his scroll of parchment as Roman launched himself into speech. He could not for the life of him understand why Thomas was so averse to his princely title; it should have been an honor to ascend to such a position, after all. It was understandable that Thomas would give a friend he’d had for over a decade a little more slack on the royal title front, but Logan had only joined the staff a few years ago, and he got the same treatment — “You can cut back on the ‘my lord’ stuff.” “It’s not that big a deal.” “You don’t have to treat me any differently.” Of course Logan had to treat him differently; he was the prince! That was part of the job description. Putting his grievances aside, cleared his throat and turned his attention back to the conversation at hand.
“So, for this festival I’ve been hearing about,” Roman was saying. “I was thinking of a good, old-fashioned jousting match — with me as the star, of course, given my astounding track record.”
“Yep, yeah, sounds great,” Thomas said, eyes still downcast and brow still furrowed.
“And maybe a bit of sparring as well! I’ve gotten very good at this new disarming trick —”
“Okay, Ro. We’re kind of busy here.”
“But hear me out on this one: me, my stallion, and a jumping course. I’ve never jumped before, obviously, but I’m sure it would be a spectacle, and —”
“Roman, that’s enough, alright?”
“Oh, we could hang banners! ‘Epic joust today at noon’ —”
“Roman!”
At long last, the knight fell silent. A disoriented sort of look played across his face as Thomas grimaced at the ground.
“I’m really busy right now, okay? I don’t have time for this.”
“Well, I’m only trying to give my thoughts —”
“Then stop giving them,” Thomas said, finally looking Roman in the eye. He seemed, quite frankly, exhausted — his hair was tousled and his eyes were frazzled. “I — I’m sorry, but I’ve got a lot on my plate today, and as — as your prince, I’m asking you to put a pin in this until a… later date.”
Roman blanched. He opened and closed his mouth like a codfish before regaining his composure, giving his crisp white doublet a little adjusting tug. “Right,” he said, and it came out tight. “Of course… my lord.” His bright eyes hardened as he turned on his heel and remounted his horse. With a jerk of the reigns, he took off toward the city across the sprawling lawn.
Thomas waited until Roman was out of earshot, then thumped the back of his head against the wall. “Agh, that was mean,” he groaned.
Logan sniffed, unbothered; he and Roman got along well enough, but sometimes that boisterous knight simply needed to be told to shut up. “You asserted your authority over a knight who forgot his place,” he said. “I see nothing wrong with that.”
“He’s my friend, Logan.”
“Even friends must come to understand the balance of things. Now, would you like to discuss the festival?”
“I would!” Patton chimed in. Logan nodded fondly at him. “I can go pick apples for the bobbing contest!”
That managed to bring the ghost of a smile to Thomas’s face. “Sure,” he said. “Yeah. Let’s get to it.” He led the way back inside, blissfully unaware of the roiling rainclouds that were beginning to creep in along the horizon.
There was a storm coming, and it was going to be a big one.

A/N: I've been sitting on this fic for almost a year now, and after months of rereading what I'd written a million times over, I'm finally ready to post it. This story is lowkey my baby; I'm beyond pumped to send it out into the world. If you like what you see, I sincerely hope you'll stick around — I've got quite a bit planned for this bad boy.

an andi mack reminisce + a thank you to you all
i wanted to write something just remembering all the experiences and joy ive had with this show and fandom as well as give thanks to every single one of you in the fandom. this is probably going to get Really Long so i’ll be putting this under a keep reading border so it doesnt clog up peoples dashboards :3
anyways, to start this long ramble off, i’ve been in this fandom for almost 2 years. i found andi mack through a “top ten gay disney characters” youtube video a day after season 1 episode 1 had aired while i was sick actually which is the absolutely weirdest way to find the show but im so happy i found it. i actually wasnt going to watch it originally but i saw a character i had never seen before in the thumbnail, and that peaked my curiosity. of course, this character was cyrus, and upon finding him and this show, i immediatly bingewatched every episode to get caught up to the storyline for cyrus, and i got hooked on the first episode. this show is so important to me for so many reasons, and im so incredibly greatful for how well everyone working on the show has done in bringing these characters to life to show so many important aspects of life. seeing topics such as being lgbt, anxiety, teen pregnancy, and learning disabilities being brought up as well as seeing such a diverse and amazing cast makes me so incredibly happy and i am so glad the kids watching this can get introduced to these things in such a good way. i was also very depressed when i had found andi mack, and it and its fandom helped me through all of that and i will always be greatful it was there in that point of my life.  this show also has such relatable and great characters, and the actors to these characters are just as amazing. i was able to easily relate to andis love of crafts and arts, the loyalty of buffy, the awkwardness and kindness of cyrus, and also the complete dumbassary of season 1 jonah beck when i started watching. the characters have always been written in such an entertaining and great way too, so its always been easy to get immediately wrapped up in whatever a character may be doing or dealing with. seeing all of these characters develop and grow throughout these past few seasons has just been amazing to watch, especially since ive grown so attached to these characters. i also can relate a lot to the lgbt and anxiety storylines, as i am lgbt (bi and trans, yeehaw!!) and also deal with an anxiety disorder. watching cyrus deal with coming out multiple times and living his life as a newly discovered gay kid is just what i needed to see and relate to back when i was fresh into 8th grade and starting to get used to life after realizing i was bi, and i can relate to it even more now that ive realized im trans. with jonah, seeing him have such a realistically portrayed reaction to panic attacks as well as a very realistically portrayed panic attack in general was just the representation i needed, and helped to keep reminding me that all of what i deal with doesnt make me any less of a person. all of this representation being shown so well has made the experience of watching this show even better. and now, onto all of you guys!! :D when i first started watching this show all the way back at season 1 episode 1, i scrambled to find any other fans out there, and i started my search at tumblr. i was instantly welcomed with an excited and passionate fanbase that welcomed every new member with open arms and kindness. the fandom has always had a sense of us all being a tight-knit group, even with the fandom getting quite large now. also, with our fandom being so large now, you would expect a crazier fandom with more drama, but weve stayed so peaceful throughout the shows entire run, and i think thats really impressive!! honestly i feel like sticking through the hiatuses together has just made us an even tighter-knit andi mack fandom family and has also given us a  l o t  of patience DGKLJSDGLKG you all make such great content and ive never seen a fandom this passionate or dedicated before. the quality of fics, edits, art, animatics, animations, covers, theories, discussion and also baking in this fandom is incredible. being in this fandom has been so much fun and ive always been happy to come see whats in the tag everyday. its been a wild ride since the beginning of season 2 and you guys have made this fandom the best experience possible :D also some random memories: - y’all remember when tyrus was a crackship?? i remember shipping tyrus at the swingset scene and being so low on content in the tyrus tag omg, i still cant believe theyre finally becoming canon in just a few hours :,) - when we first started trending when cyrus came out to buffy.. that was WILD - DO YOU GUYS REMEMBER WHEN BEING AROUND YOU HAPPENED GLSJGDLKGD it feels like its been forever since that episode aired omg - m u f f i n   t h e o r i e s - literally every time a promo released we all gained exactly one braincell hellbent on making as many theories as possible and we all shared it until the episode or episodes released - i remember when josh confirmed that cyrus would get an endgame and also crying a lot that day because of said confirmation - i remember being on vacation when the episode with cyrus talking to tj about his dyscalculia and i remember my brother wondering why i was freaking out DGKSHDSGK the fandom was wildin when that episode released its been a fun ride guys, and i hope we can keep the fandom alive for a long time after the finale :3

Bryan Caselli: The Frederator Interview
Tumblr media
Bryan Caselli is a Storyboard Artist, Writer and Renaissance Faire enthusiast. Following tenure on top-notch cartoons including Star vs. the Forces of Evil and Sanjay and Craig, ‘twas our good fortune when he set sail to Costume Quest as co-Executive Producer, with a treasure trove of story skillz in tow. Here, Bryan provides his advice to young artists, fav things about Costume Quest, and remarkably realistic take on a 17th century Swashbuckler and his Mer-Lassy.
When did you know that you wanted a career in animation?
My friends and family were alway super supportive of my drawing when I was little, but I got really focused on art in high school. I had an amazing teacher named Kevin McGovern who encouraged me to apply to the California State Summer School for the Arts. CSSSA was a four week residency arts summer program on CalArts’ campus featuring many different disciplines. I studied in the animation department, and it was like I finally found my people. After those four weeks, I knew I wanted to work in animation, and I wanted to go to school at CalArts. There was no turning back.
Tumblr media
(Every day is Halloween for the CQ crew! But this day was actually Halloween.)
Where are you from, and how did you chart your path to CalArts?
I'm originally from Sacramento, California. It's a legitimately sized city, but it still has a small town vibe that's warm and welcoming. I applied to CalArts straight out of high school, but didn't get in on my first try. I actually didn't apply to any other schools. My plan was to just apply again the next year, but my mom secretly applied for me to CSU Sacramento as a somewhat, "What if he doesn't get into CalArts for ten years?" worst case scenario backup plan. After swallowing the tough pill of not getting into my dream school, I took a collection of figure drawing, portrait drawing, painting, and art history classes at both Sac State and Sac City college. I didn't stay long enough to earn a degree. Luckily, I was accepted into CalArts the following year.
How did you decide you wanted to storyboard and write?
I got into animation thinking I wanted to be a character designer. It seemed to be the most glamorous position at the time, but I found out quickly that you have to be an exceptional draftsman to do that job, which I'm not. I fell in love with the story department in my 3rd and 4th years at CalArts. I had some awesome teachers who really set me on the path that I'm on now.
What do you love most about the job?
I can't get enough of stuff like mythic structure, archetypal symbolism, and fable storytelling. I really get excited by just how universal storytelling is. It can connect you with anyone. That's easily my favorite part of my work.
What was your first job in animation or art, and how’d you land it?
I interned on Regular Show. I actually went in to interview for a different show, but on my way out, I ran into Ben Adams, the Regular Show character designer and my former classmate. He told me to blow those other guys off and come work with him. He introduced me to Regular Show's Producer, Janet Dimon, and we really hit it off. She offered me the position soon after that. At the end of my internship, I pitched the storyboards for my student film, Scout Wars. After the pitch, someone from development came up to me and said, "You need to pitch this upstairs." That's how I got my second gig.
youtube
The show was never produced, but getting paid to develop my original concept that early in my career really set in stone my desire to run a show of my own some day. I even got to work with our future Costume Quest Art Director, Ricky Cometa, on the development poster.  After that, I did about a year and a half of full-time freelance, which eventually lead me to work with the creators of Sanjay and Craig on some of their punk side projects. I really liked working with those guys, so when they asked me to come on Sanjay, it was an easy choice.
Tumblr media
That’s awesome. Was Sanjay the first show you wrote and boarded for? How is it to work on a board driven show?
Yep, Sanjay was the first TV show that I got to write and storyboard on. Both writing and storyboarding is really demanding, but it's also really rewarding. Nick Bachman (Costume Quest's previously interviewed Supervising Producer) was my Storyboard Director on Sanjay, and we really clicked as a team. Sanjay and Craig was a perfect show to be board driven because it was super cartoony and there were very few rules. It was a great opportunity for board teams to have their specific voices heard. When you watch an episode of Sanjay and Craig you can pretty much spot which teams did which episodes from a mile away.
How was writing on Star vs the Forces of Evil - is it board driven too?
Writing on Star was an awesome change of pace coming off of Sanjay. Daron Nefcy was a great leader to work for, and I became really close with my fellow writers. It was board driven, which made the transition from storyboarding to outline writing a lot more of a doable task for me. I was comfortable in that kind of production pipeline and pretty much knew what would be expected of me as a writer. The coolest part about working on Star was that it was a seasonally arcing, somewhat mythic story. It was so cool to get to craft a large story over multiple episodes. I took a lot of lessons learned writing on Star and brought them with me to the writers' room on Costume Quest.
Is it odd being a bit of a ~star~ yourself, considering you have a whole fan page and everything?!
Oh boy, having a fan wiki page is a strange feeling. It's really cool to be apart of a show that has such a passionate fanbase, but honestly I don't want to be a star. Star Butterfly is the star of Star.
You’re Costume Quest’s co-Executive Producer. What does the job entail?
Being the co-EP on Costume Quest means I, along with the rest of our leadership team, am responsible to supervise just about every stage of production. From writing to storyboarding, animatics to art, voice acting and voice casting, logo design, score, sound effects, the list goes on and on. I got to script a handful of episodes. Nick and I storyboarded the first episode. Occasionally I do some (very rough) first pass character designs. I also draw story board punch-ups and animation redline revisions on the episodes I direct. I direct the first story of each of Costume Quest's two part episodes, and Nick directs the second story. Beyond that I mainly keep my eye on the larger narrative of the show, making sure everything is tonally consistent and the story threads line up. If every person that works on this show is making one tree, I try to make sure the forest is working as a whole. I do my best not to force any artist to execute their assignments exactly as I would have, but instead, encourage them to showcase their personal artistic voices.
Tumblr media
How have you enjoyed working on Costume Quest, and what do you like most about the show?
Working on Costume Quest has been my favorite gig yet. I am really grateful to Will (McRobb), Kevin (Kolde), and Eric (Homan) for bringing me onboard. I'm super proud of how much the show grows across the first season. The scale, the emotional stakes, and the world building just get bigger and bigger with every episode. Beyond that, having the chance to lead a team has been incredibly rewarding. Our whole crew is so talented, and they are all so supportive of the show. It has really meant a lot to me to learn that these people, who I respect tremendously, are happy to come in to work every day and are proud to help tell this story. I can't overstate how good it feels to know I have a creatively and professionally satisfied crew.
Do you have a favorite character on CQ?
I love all four of the main kids, but my favorite character really is Norm. I always say that he's a cross between Fred Flintstone and Santa Clause. He's such an emotionally vulnerable character, and he's got some great reveals attached to his backstory. Fred Tatasciore also does some incredible voice acting as Norm, so if this show only gets one award ever, it should go to Fred's performance.
Tumblr media
Since developing Scout Wars, have you gone out pitching other original ideas?
I’ve pitched Scout Wars and a handful of other show ideas around to the big studios, but when Costume Quest came about, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to learn everything I needed to about the responsibilities of a show runner—without the added emotional pressure of having the show be about my childhood, or my relationship with my father, or whatever. I have a handful of ideas in my back pocket that I'm eager to start pitching again whenever Costume Quest comes to a close.
What are your favorite cartoons?
Not including the shows I've worked on: original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Batman the Animated Series, Justice League/Justice League Unlimited, Doug, Hey Arnold!, SpongeBob, Simpsons, Bob's Burgers, Archer, Flintstones, the Peanuts specials, and the original Power Rangers gets a non-cartoon honorable mention because the the influence that show had on me and Costume Quest is pretty undeniable.
What is your advice to people who want to write and/or storyboard for animation?
Study the craft as hard as you can. It's not about networking, or Internet likes, or whatever. If you get as good as you possibly can at the craft, you'll be golden. Take any job that will hire you. Once you get any position anywhere, if you show everyone you work with just how dedicated you are, people will take notice, and they'll want to help you.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I really love hosting backyard BBQ's and parties at my place. My friends tease me that I'd rather they come to me than I go anywhere else pretty much 100% of the time. You can find me most Sunday mornings at any of the LA flea markets with my girlfriend, Madison, looking for more knick knacks to put up in our place. Also, I take my Renaissance Faire costuming pretty seriously. Yearly upgrades are planned months in advance. My mom always sewed my Halloween costumes growing up, so costumes somehow became a thing I really like to do. I guess it's fitting that Costume Quest came my way.
Tumblr media
Have anything to say to future fans of Costume Quest?
Watch it again! We did our best to set up, pay off, and foreshadow as much as possible in the season so it would be fun to rewatch. There are a lot of little easter eggs in there. I hope fans enjoy it. ☆
No doubt, they will. Thank you for the interview Bryan, and for your fantastic work on Costume Quest!  Follow Bryan on Instagram.

Collab Project - Character Sketches, Editing and Brand New Animatic
For this week in my development on the collab project, I started on a lot of different developments for the collab project for both the modeled character and the animatic sequence which I made from the ground up.
Starting off with my modeled character progress, I began to do a lot more sketches for the character as I went back to how I did the first sheet of sketches for the Monk character and acted very playful with my lines. Whilst I got the general form of the character from the first sheet of sketches, there were a couple of things I weren't sure about the design like the beard as one of the images I found as part of my research has really grown on me. This is because I really loved the idea of having a face mask or sheet in front of the character’s mouth. However, this does block the beard and essentially means there’s not really any point to sculpting it. But then again, I think the mask really helps to embrace the idea of passion within the character due to how reserve he must be to achieve true harmony and true flow in his body.
With the second sheet of sketches just below it, they’re mostly studies for the Monk character’s final design which happens to be the Monk coloured in blue in the bottom left of the pannel. I settled on this design being the final character design for the Monk due to how simple but also emitting of the idea of Passion as whilst he is a monk, the face mask and the umbrella paired with him help to create the perfect combination of the my principle as well as a combination of my previous work in the project too. In addition to coming up with the final design on the second page, I also experimented a bit with colour on some of the other sketches I did to see how the colour palette adjusted to the designs. So far, I think I really loving the blue colour scheme so far on the character but I do plan to look further into the colours of the character later down the project.

After the Monk development, it was time to fully revise my animatic/ scene for the sequence as based from the feedback I received from the last meeting. Not only from that, nut I also felt it needed changing too as it was a bit too safe for my liking whenever I watched it back. But before I could even start animating, I had to model the scene out.
Modelling the area started from watching a tutorial online on how to create rocks in maya which luckily made the exact kind of rocks that I wanted to for the sequence which was really handy. From here, I stretched and manipulated each rock piece to make it so it can look like a large looking cave with all the in-perfections in place inside to make it look more authentic and more cabe-looking. With the cave construction, I also wanted to give the cave an entrance for the spirit and the light come into the sequence to make it both realistic and dramatic as the Spirit comes into the the cave where it hasn’t been before.

Once the cave was sorted and it was looking nice, it was time to try out a new technique that I had plan to do in the sequence which I had been planning ever since the idea of having to change the sequence up. I basically was looking up symbolism of passion and low and behold, I was introduced to the Passion flower which literally inspires Passion. It’s a bit on the nose but my idea is still very vague to watch anyway so it may be a point on the nose if anyone of the Ai would be able to read and a really small bit of dialogue. But going back to the flower tutorial, the effect would create a see-through based flower petal flower that would bloom out of the Monk character to show he’s successfully reach his flow and steps into ‘Passion’.
However when trying to replicate the tutorial there were two problems with it, one the tutorial was going super fast with no chance to breathe or tell you how to specifically do something in the tutorial and the other being that that the process didn't really work at all. Because  the tutorial is both only one out there that does this effect and having no clue to solve this issue, I emailed Jon the problem I had with it which hopefully it wasn’t anything too complicated.

Never the less despite not being able to do the flower effect for the animatic, I came up with a replacement idea which involved my Monk character mediating silently in the cave which would cause the spirit to notice and fly over to him, This then causes him to split the animation spirit into two different spirits  that the monk begins to manipulate around him similar to how it worked in the first animatic. Because this is increasing his flow and ‘Passion’, rocks come into contact with and begin to mold around him that makes the Monk become part of the Earth. This then later develops to him being cocooned inside when suddenly, a flash of the flower’s colour illuminate the cave as he pops out with both spirits on his hands with the word Passion behind him. The psirit then comes back to one spirit and he goes into the the next sequence.
Seeing the animation in action going through this storyline, I think it could have a bit more development to help sell the idea of passion as it looked a bit static to watch with the Monk sitting in the same place with no body animation. I think the group’s opinions on this idea will definitely be important.
youtube
Once the animatic was tuned and completed, I then created a group edit of everyone’s sequences from the group to see what it would look like if they were to be all put together. I didn’t necessarily worry too much on the story’telling side as it was really early stages still. My main focus was to experiment with different kinds off transitions that we could potentially use to travel to one sequence to another.
These transitions I experimented with were an invisible cut, a green screen transition and a explosion transition. The Invisible cut I was definitely the most prepared for as it involves the spirit in my scene moving from left to right of the screen causing a mapped wipe in the sequence. Testing it out in the animatic edit went surprisingly better than I thought as the mapping process was so much easier than I was expecting to do. I would say the green screen transition that I did on Brandon’s phone was definitely the hardest as I had to map out a green screen for every frame which wasn’t the funniest to do. The explosion transition was a bit smilliar but it more engulf the screen rather than a specific section which was a bit nicer to do.
With the overall cut of the film, I feel quite proud of it as whilst it may not be the final piece that i’m presenting, it feels really complete to me that we have some sort of narrative structure through our films even though it’s not finsilased what order everyone is. I just feel very energetic from watching it back as it just feels like the final piece even though there’s still a lot more work to do.

Group’s and Jon’s Reactions
The reactions towards the animatic were essentially the same towards the sequence as I was to it. However, they apparently missed the balls that my Monk character used to control around him to achieve his flow and passion. Since it was requested, I really want to try a new sequence with everyone’s requests for my sequence so I feel like I’m creating the very best piece I can.

July 2018 Featured Creator
What is a Featured Creator?
Write Way Studio’s “Featured Creator” segment is my way of showing appreciation for the creators of the world.  Creative outlets are limitless, because there is no end to human imagination.  Every month shows the succeeding featured creator.  If you would like to be a part of this collaborative project, contact me at [email protected]!
My tenth guest creator is an artist and writer known as Emi!
Introduction
This lovely lady goes by both Emi and Emily!  She was born the sixteenth of March, currently twenty-one years old.  Her home resides in New York.  At the moment, she is a college student going for Computer Animation and Interactive Media, with an Associate’s in Illustration.  She absolutely adores character design, complete with storyboarding and writing in the art of storytelling.  As an emphasis on her passion, Emi confessed that “you can always catch me with a sketchbook in hand and story ideas to discuss.”
She comes from a variety of educational backgrounds, from primary Catholic school, public high school and then the college she presently attends, the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City (or FIT for short).  There is one year left for her Bachelor’s degree.  She is unsure of what she will do afterward, either to go to a community college to potentially gain a teaching degree or extend her Bachelor’s into a Master’s degree after the graduation from FIT.
What Sparked the Creator Passion?
Cartoons and video games influenced Emi early in life.  For television, she grew up on PBS Kids and KidsWB while her older brothers played with a Nintendo 64 and GameCube.  Nowadays, it’s mostly cartoons she watches, especially if it is animated.  She plays any video games she can get her hands on – new and old!  A family trait of hers that she inherited would be the artist’s eye, a characteristic that would influence her even today.
An Animated Beginning
Emi revealed that “the game that really sky-rocketed [her] love for the world of imagination, and still fuels [her] to this day, is The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask.”  There are numerous other games she played when she was younger.  Banjo Kazooie, Yoshi Story and Spyro name a small few.  Japanese-based games introduced her to the world of anime and manga after she discovered the Internet.  There were multiple phases as she cycled through an assortment of anime, from Sgt. Frog, Ouran High School Host Club, Black Butler, and Princess Jellyfish.  All of them have led to her current obsession, My Hero Academia.  Studio Ghibli also holds a special place in her heart.
She recently read The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold and thoroughly enjoyed the book.  She is currently invested in a book called Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates; it is a fictional story sharing the inner thoughts and feelings of the one and only Marilyn Monroe.  Emi confessed that Oates is her favorite author since “her level of writing is where I aspire to be.”
“We All Live In A Yellow Submarine”
Yet, there is one film that stands above the rest in her eyes.  As she called it, “the magnum opus of all animation, imagination, storytelling, creativity, illustration, and music [can only be] Yellow Submarine directed by George Dunning, produced by Al Brodax, Story by Lee Minoff, Art Direction by Heinz Edelmann, [and] based on the song of the same name by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.”  The movie stands as a huge inspiration for her, and since it is based on The Beatles with their songs, only has Emi adoring it more.  The experience with the picture repeatedly “kindles [her] aesthetic and motivation to create . . . [because of] how much it means to [her].”
Interestingly, Emi possesses the uncanny fan-ability of quoting the object of the fanatics.  In this case, Yellow Submarine, complete with “accents . . . tones . . . and everything.” Oh, yes, being a dedicated fan can definitely come in handy, if you become creative with your resources.  Emi even confessed that, for the previous semester, she wrote a final paper of hers (AKA the grade-that’s-most-likely-to-be-OP for a college-level course) centered on the film.
I pulled a similar power move with Studio Ghibli films for a Linguistics class.  But that is a story for another time.
Future Projects
For now, Emi is focused on improvement with lots of practice and taking time for herself.   Toon Boom is an animating and storyboarding software that she uses for 2D animation.  Besides working with the software, she has a plethora of other outlets to utilize.
As previously mentioned, this young lady is concentrating on her senior thesis to rightfully obtain her hard-earned degree.  This summer, Emi managed to actively participate with multiple zines as both a writer and an artist in order to remain imaginatively occupied.  There is also her summer internship position, where she works on storyboards and animatics for a production company called O.T.O TV.
If you are intrigued to know more about the company, check their social media links down below!

There are a few random things to know about Emi.  To start, she is right handed and a Pisces!  Her favorite food is any form of a potato.  She listens to music every day in order to improve her groove.  Her favorite Beatle is Paul McCartney and her favorite Disney film is Beauty and the Beast.
Emily then concluded our interview with a message to all of you lovely readers, “I wish you all a lovely day.  Thank you for taking time to read up a little bit about me, my life, and my passions. Your support means the world to me.”

Please understand that some information will not be shared by the creator’s request.  If you cannot understand that, there is not much more I can do to help you.  Safety is a top priority here, and I am here to help the creators, not instigate negative behavior.
Collaboration Disclaimer
The information provided in my Featured Creator articles is, in fact, from the real people, not some random Internet bot.  I do not use random stock photos to fill an imaginary photo quota.  Any photos in the Featured Creator segment are provided by the creators with permission to use them in this manner.  I want to support the original person behind the work, not a random online copycat creeping around.
To Emi,
I honestly can’t remember how I found you on Tumblr, but I am so happy I did.  Not only are you a hilarious young lady, you also are creative and insightful.  I am not much older than you, and yet we will be both getting our respective degrees with the completion of the following school year.  Most of the other creators I’ve worked with before were, for the most part, already out of school and being full-blown adults.  So that was definitely a nice change of scenery I did not expect.
As a fan of both your writing and art, I was really excited to work with you on this collaboration!  Despite the problems we’ve encountered across this little project, please know that I don’t make a habit of it.  Truly!  I had a lot of fun working on this.  I hope that happiness shines through somewhere in all of this.
I wish you luck with your final year of school and I can’t wait to work with you again on a different project (if you’re interested, of course)!
Sincerely,
Jasmine Love

I’m a Little Upset They Made Me Excited for Something Called Hascon
But, they did, and over the past two days (and counting! expect an IDW comic panel on Sunday!), they’ve released some spoilers and news that’s pretty damn cool.
No real movie news aside from Hype! It’s coming in 4 weeks! because they didn’t want to reveal too many spoilers for that (although I’m still waiting for Hasbro to step up its marketing game with this one), but aside from that, let’s see what news we got for MLP this weekend [if you want Movie insight, I actually recommend picking up the art book. I just got mine in the mail and WOW is the concept art ever pretty]! This is your spoiler warning if you don’t like that sort of thing.
UPDATED: TONS OF STUFF! Movie Screenshots, more season 8 news, IDW comics, and more!
MLP: The Movie!
Not much in the way of spoilers (you can read the novelization or the art book for those, I guess was their thinking), but have three stills!

Equestria Girls
New outfits, designed by an actual red carpet stylist, Carol Lam, for both the new doll line and the characters in canon
New Youtube series officially announced, and it’s Choose Your Own Adventure style! Expected in November
Shorts to continue, and one has even been teased
youtube
Another one was a “2 minute short about Sunset Shimmer drawing a comic and them animating it... based around [the] girls catching a jewel thief.”
youtube
School play is a concept that’s coming up. Whether in short form, 22 minute special form, or perhaps even movie (although please note there has been no explicit mention of an EG5, so lovers of the movies will have to be patient)
“When asked if there is a Sunset Shimmer doppleganger rolling around, one of the panelists noted that her pet theory is that it was always Sunset's fate to travel to humanland, and there isn't an original Sunset in the world. They are leaving this open in canon though.”
No plans for Discord in EQG at the moment, but who knows?
Find EQD’s report on that here.
Okay, so first off? Loving the new outfits. With any other teenager characters, it would be ridiculous that they’re so well dressed and styled (I noticed Sunset’s hair is juuust slightly different, can’t see the others well enough to tell), but for these girls, it makes sense, since they’re all friends with Rarity.
So, yes, Hasbro. I’ll buy your crazy marketing tactics for now, because cute outfits.
As to the Choose Your Own Adventure series, I think that’ll be interesting, but not quite as cool to me as stuff like the shorts, specials, and movies. Just a matter of personal taste, but the world-building going on in the Overpowered short, for instance, is only really cool if it has a lasting effect on the characters and their world (the report said something about a coal miners daughter wanting to disco, and while that sounds possibly cute, it’s not exactly my cup of tea).
But it’ll be fun to try, no doubt! And definitely cool for younger fans!
The post wasn’t super clear on whether the Choose Your Own Adventure stuff was the only EQG content coming to Youtube (we have been teased about a series, similar to the Hana Zuki show Hasbro has on there already), but until we hear otherwise, assume it’s just the CYOA series.
And a school play theme really does sound like it could be used for a movie or a special, if they wanted to keep doing long-form stories, so that’s what I’m hoping for, personally.
Oh and we still don’t know what these are from/for:

A currently unreleased summertime short, most likely a music video.

A Netflix listing we found out about back in August. This might be the place they feature the specials and shorts, but who knows?

Additionally, I’ll point out what we know for the season 7 finale: that there’s a tie into the Legends of Magic comics, and it’s called Shadow Play parts 1&2. Whether “shadow” refers to the character Shadowlock from the main comic series or King Sombra or something else entirely, we’ll have to wait and see!
Okay, so the most exciting thing for me is that Vincent Tong, voice of Flash Sentry and Feather Bangs, gets to sing again! As a villain this time! I could make a joke about him embracing the role the fandom has given him this season (Feather Bangs, the waifu stealer, and now Rumble, the antagonist).
Oh and for those who don’t remember, Rumble is Thunderlane’s little brother, who appears in Hurricane Fluttershy. It’s been a while, but he looked cute there.
I wonder if Starlight will have any role in this episode...
The addition of the Cake twins is to Mane Thing also adds hype for me. I’m still on the fence with the episode concept, mostly because I need to see how they’re going to run with it (could be uncomfortable to watch Rares lose her mane if done wrong), but the Cake twins were extremely endearing in Baby Cakes, and it would be nice to see more interaction between them and Pinkie Pie.
This season has been spectacular so far, so I’m glad not too much was spoiled (or you know, leaked...) so we get to enjoy it in full!
Season 8 News
Seaponies confirmed for season 8, the Movie will tie into the show
Tumblr media
An animatic was released as well:

SHE RETURNS!
I find it super interesting that Chrysalis is outright ignoring Starlight Glimmer while gathering DNA, given that she swore revenge against her. A large number of fans are speculating that this will be some sort of voodoo plot, where Chrysalis literally turns Starlight’s friends against her, like Starlight did to her.
Not only that, but if you look in the background of that animatic, you’ll find the mane 7 are in a suspiciously new building...
Tumblr media
Some have speculated it’s Twilight’s new castle (meaning the crystal castle will get destroyed at the end of season 7, which is alarming because it’s connected to the Tree of Harmony). I feel like it might be more of an addition to her castle, either a school of Twilight’s own (hence, calling the rest of the girls Twilight’s “teachers”) or a house of diplomacy of some kind, like a U.N. building for the different nations that Twilight and company have been befriending (dragons, changelings, griffons, yaks---heck, even Sunset Shimmer could be considered a diplomat from Equestria to the humans).
It’s still a mystery...
Also, sea ponies! And they’re adorable! They translate to show style really well, actually! And it only makes you wonder just how many other things will carry over from the movie....
New info!
Look for a Cheese Sandwhich cameo
G. M. Berrow wrote a Season 8 episode she is super passionate about and her favorite episode overall. Maybe more book tie-ins like in "Daring Done".
Josh Haber's favorite pony is The Great and Probably Going To Be In Season 8 Trixie!
Derpy won't get a featured episode like Episode 100, but she will be around, likely more than season 7.
There will be two-parters, and that's plural, so it sounds like we return to the opening and closing episodes being epic two-parters. So expect You-Know-You that we saw in that animatic to be in one of these!
Things we already know about season 8 that you may have forgotten:
26 episodes confirmed
Orchestra music from the movie to be used in some of the season’s songs, which are all finalized by now
As well, there will be twice as many songs are there are in season 7, since Daniel Ingram’s time won’t be split up between the show and the movie
Discord confirmed
Josh Haber returning as story-editor
Mike Vogel returning finally after working on the movie
