You giggle and look down at Mary as her head rests in your lap, your fingers combing through her dark hair while the two of you rock in the boat that you’re settled in, the calm seas swaying you gently. There’s a little basket of food and some drinks set down beside where Mary is laid across the bottom of the boat and comforting her head against your thighs. 

It’s all simple foods, really, which is why they’re so easy for you to feed to one another in a way that’s just warmly romantic: crackers with soft cheese and Spanish meats, chopped fruits, little cakes with sugar and honey. Though, Mary seems most drawn to the rum fudge balls you’ve made. You push one past her lips and she happily eats the sweet treat as she looks up at you and how your skin is brought to life like a polished gem by the warm light of the sunset pouring over you. 

She reaches up to tuck some hair behind your ear, assuring that she can see the entirety of your face in all its beauty. Sometimes she’s sure that you’re not human at all, that you’re some sea nymph who’s stolen her heart and she doesn’t have it in her to blame you at all, not when she loves you so dearly. 

And you can see that love in her hazel eyes as he takes in every detail of you, seeing no imperfection. You cup her scarred cheek with a soft smile and lean down in order to tenderly kiss her. You can taste rum and sugar on her lips as she cranes her neck just a little in order to better reach you. Her hand lands on the back of your neck in order to pull you even closer to her and she lets out a content hum against you. 

Slowly, she sits up and cups your jaw in her calloused hands, roughened from life as both a pirate and Assassin. She then begins to pepper kisses all over your face: cheeks, nose, chin, forehead. The playful affection makes you giggle and your heart flutters in your chest as Mary’s lips leave your face and she kisses just beneath your ear for a moment before moving to trail her lips along the column of your throat, along your pulse to feel the thum of the heart that beats for her. 

You let out a little squeal when she suddenly pulls you down onto her, making the boat rock. When you realise that all is well and you won’t, in fact, end up in the water, you let out a little burst of giggles instead that you muffle against Mary’s mouth with kisses. She wraps her arms around you and you do the same, the two of you just laid there cuddling, kissing, no prying eyes about to spy on the two of you in the privacy of your little boat out on the calm waters of the cove. No one to see you and your Mary.
