A/N: Dedicated first and foremost to Ami @softsakusa, one of the first people to convince that my writing isn’t shit and that I should keep creating fics.
This fic is also for all the readers who wanted a happy ending for the reader in The Astrophile (which sets out the backstory of the reader, Iwaizumi and Oikawa), and also follows the events of Storm Chaser (which follows the turbulent relationship of Miya Atsumu and now wife - I named her Kaiyo in this fic to avoid confusion!).
Hope you like it - reblogs and comments are always dearly appreciated <3

It must be the worst meet cute of all time.
That is – if he’s using that phrase correctly. It keeps appearing in the god-awful English movies Bokuto and Miya keep playing during team movie nights that makes him want to tear his hair out.
But yes, he meets her at Miya Shino’s seventh birthday party, the birthday girl the apple of Miya Atsumu’s eye, the princess of his castle, the most perfect angel in the entire heavens - the list of pet names growing longer and longer the more the obnoxious setter prattles on about his daughter.
And apparently Miya Shino is a chip off the old block, and is as obsessed with volleyball as her father. Which means that he, one Sakusa Kiyoomi, is forced to turn up on a Saturday afternoon for a birthday party to teach a group of children roughly about the same height as his kneecaps how to play volleyball.
There are plenty of other MSBY players that Miya Atsumu could have rounded up to fritter away a Saturday afternoon. Hinata, for instance - the sunny, fiery headed opposite hitter a perennial favourite with young fans. Or Inunaki - the liberio has an amiable personality that he certainly wouldn’t mind snot nosed children hanging off his arms like a walking, talking monkey bar. But no, Hinata is apparently busy on a weekend meditation retreat, and Inunaki is at his sister’s wedding party, so both of them managed to escape this travesty of a birthday party.
That leaves him with Bokuto who’s practically a child himself, beaming, bumping balls at screaming children with one hand, the other hand lifting another child above his head. Meian’s here too but his own kid is somewhere in this gaggle of monsters anyway, so he’s here to carry out his parental duties – hopefully his presence might balance the sheer chaos he’s sure he’s about to face.
‘Omi-omi you made it!’ Atsumu greets him with a slap to the back.
Sakusa resists the urge to bare his teeth. Is this what hell is? Screeching gremlins underfoot, the nauseating smell of fried food permeating the air.
And it’s probably because he’s still in a horrified daze at the situation he’s put himself in (which Atsumu is either too dense to pick up on or already immune due to the series of similar expressions he pulls at him on a daily basis), Atsumu manages to snap a party hat on his head, before he prances off in victory.
Sakusa snarls, ripping off the red paper hat off his head.
Why on earth did he agree to this again?
‘Sakusa-san! Thank you so much for coming!’
His glare softens by a fraction.
Miya Kaiyo, Atsumu’s long suffering wife approaches him, careful not to touch him, waving at him instead. He appreciates her thoughtfulness, so he thaws a little, giving her a slight nod in greeting.
Right, she’s the reason why he’s here.
He’s always been fond of her - competent, patient, intelligent, far too good for her idiot of a husband. Approximately a year ago, he sought her professional help with his accounts. He graduated with a business degree from Chuo University, so he can tell there is obviously something fishy that his manager is pulling with his finances, but the accounting courses he took weren’t in depth to pinpoint the problem. Miya Kaiyo, on the other hand, a trained forensic accountant with a nose like a bloodhound for fraudulent accounts, nailed down the problem within a week. So when she asked him after a game whether he’d be free to attend her daughter's birthday party, he hadn’t been able to turn her down.
‘It was no problem’, he says stiffly, already itching to spray the whole place down with disinfectant. ‘I’m glad to be here.’
Kaiyo laughs at his obvious lie, tugging at his sleeve to seat him in a corner. ‘You don’t have to go play with the kids if you didn’t want to! I invited you so we could catch up, and besides, I did want to introduce you to someone.’
‘Hm.’
He doesn’t try to mask his reluctance this time. Kaiyo means well, he knows, but between her and his mother, he’s tired of having to fend off match making attempts. It’s not like he can’t get a date – he can and he has, it’s just difficult to find someone willing to put up with his prickly personality and busy schedule.
‘Well she’s not here yet, so you’ll have to wait. And while we’re waiting, tell me how’ve things been, Sakusa-san?’
Grateful that he’s not going to be forced into shepherding children into playing anything remotely resembling an actual volleyball match (he suspects he might have more luck teaching cats how to do the conga), he settles into his seat, mouth stretching into something resembling a smile. He lets her chatter about work, and they’re deep in a discussion about his plans post-volleyball (because he can feel the countdown on his career in his creaking bones, his aching sinews)  when Atsumu swoops in on him again, like a vulture seeking easy prey.
‘What’cha doin’ with my wife, Omi-omi’, he slips a hand around Kaiyo’s waist mock possessively.
She swats at him. He ducks, raising his hands in surrender.
‘I enjoy talking to an actual adult sometimes, ‘Tsumu!’
‘Oh come on, I already have to share you with ‘Samu most of the time, now you’re leaving me for Omi-kun?!’
‘Dramatic ass.’
‘Please, you chose to marry me.’ He crows, flipping his hair. He looks ridiculous, he always does. Kaiyo seems to agree -
‘And I wonder why sometimes.’ She retorts, Atsumu squawking indignantly at her response, hair ruffling like an offended chick. But Kaiyo ruins the effect of her words by laughing, leaning over to affectionately peck her husband on the cheek.
Sakusa should be annoyed by this display of childishness, but for some inexplicable reason, a frisson of longing bubbles in his chest instead. It’s strange. Marriage or even serious relationships have never been something he’s actively sought. After all, it always seemed horrendously illogical to put all your eggs in one basket and hope nothing trips up – but his heart pays his mind no mind, and the strange sensation continues to trickle down his throat into his chest.
He makes up an excuse to slip to the bathroom for a tactical retreat from this madness.
Then he takes a breath.
Rinse. Lather hands with soap. Rinse. Repeat again .
Familiar motions, bred out of a desire to do things right, transformed into an unbreakable habit. Cold water, washing away soap bubbles.
Right. Now he’s ready for another plunge off the deep end .
He’s a foot past the threshold of the community hall where the party is being held when Miya Shino darts towards him. She’s very clearly her father’s daughter with his penchant for mischief because she dives between his legs, making him stumble in confusion. Then Meian Shugo’s eldest son Makoto barrels towards him, intent on reaching the ball held aloft in Shino’s hands.
Athletic reflexes be damned in the face of a pair of hell-spawn.
‘Shino!’. Kaiyo shouts.
‘Makoto!’ Meian thunders.
Sakusa flails, decidedly without grace, and in his attempt at not squashing the two little devils, he manages to do something even  worse .
Much, much worse.
He manages to trip over his feet and bump right into the woman Miya Kaiyo wanted to introduce him to (this, he finds out later). It’s a lost cause – he’s six foot two of pure muscle, dwarfing her by a mile, and she’s carrying a huge box in her hand.
He ends up face planting directly into her chest.
His brain short circuits at the feeling of plush softness and vanilla and – ,
‘Woah - Omi-omi, never thought I’d have to defend the honour of my cousin in law’, Atsumu laughs.
The sudden flare of irritation at Atsumu’s words kickstarts his brain back into gear. Rearing back in alarm, he promptly topples over onto his butt.
‘Uncle ‘kusa, I’m sorry’ Shino screeches, distraught. Makoto merely snivels. Kaiyo is evidently the only one with working brain cells, because she rushes over to help them up.
The-woman-with-the-mysterious-box makes Kaiyo take the box first. It holds precious cargo - Shino’s birthday cake, he later finds out, but because she manages to cling on to it with admirable tenacity, it emerges more or less intact. Then she turns to him, still sprawled on the floor. He scoots away, still dazed.
She offers him a steady hand. ‘Hello’, she says. ‘It seems we’ve gotten off to rather a bad start.’
There is a hint of mirth in her voice, but her eyes are kind.
He takes her hand with a rare smile.
Miya Kaiyo grins behind the cake box. It turns out her daughter is a better matchmaker than either her or (heaven forbid) her husband.
Tumblr media
It turns out that Miya Kaiyo wanted to introduce him to her cousin, newly moved to Osaka from Tokyo. She’s a sports journalist, used to cover volleyball even, but for some reason their paths never crossed. She too, is tired of her cousin’s well intentioned meddling, but asks him if he’d like to meet her for dinner one day ‘if only to get Kaiyo off her back, because she’s persistent’, and funnily enough, he agrees.
He doesn’t mind making a new friend, he reasons. She seems decent enough.
They go out for dinner on a Tuesday night. She doesn’t complain when he tells her that due to his diet planned by MSBY’s nutritionist, most restaurants are off limits. Instead, she asks intelligent questions about whether the sources of protein and fibre he’s relying on are varied enough, even suggesting alternatives like tempeh, a Southeast Asian soy product.
He appreciates that.
She doesn’t also fawn over the fact that he’s a professional athlete. That makes sense, considering she’s probably interviewed dozens, if not hundreds of individuals who are just like him. It’s nice - he’s tired of groupies who start dates off by staring at him starry eyed, but ending it with disappointment in their eyes when they discover that he’s just a guy who practices hitting balls enough to do it for a living. And best of all, she doesn’t mind that their conversation sometimes wanes into silence. She doesn’t seem to feel the need to fill empty spaces with inane drivel, nor expect him to entertain her like a circus animal.
He likes that.
So when the night ends, he asks her whether she’d like to have dinner with him again. ‘Just as friends’, he’s quick to clarify.
‘Sure’, she nods, and they bid each other goodnight.
Tumblr media
They start having dinner every Tuesday night, subject to their erratic schedules.
He enjoys her company. She’s thoughtful, bringing him home made baked goods like zucchini cake (low sugar, of course), sneaking him chocolate scones for his cheat days after she discovers his hidden sweet tooth. She’s considerate too, never blinking an eye at his compulsive need to make sure everything is just in order, even if the waitress stands behind them aghast when he insists on using disinfectant to wipe down their table. She doesn’t even call him paranoid when he passes her a bottle of sanitizer.
Slowly, he finds himself confiding in her about things he’d maybe only tell his cousin, Motoya. Or at least, the things he would tell Motoya if the guy would only pick up his calls.
‘Sorry’, Motoya texts back after a couple of missed calls. ‘ Practice has been brutal recently.
In a remarkable display of restraint, Sakusa does not point out that EJP Raijin is below MSBY in this season’s rankings.
So he tells her instead about how he’s contemplating retirement, how he’s trying to chart out his next steps career wise. She surprises him by listening to him gravely, pointing out that he can lean on his business degree to possibly land an office job in event management or with sports associations, putting him in touch with one overly excited Kuroo Tetsuro. He tucks her suggestions away carefully at the back of his mind.
It’s nice to have a friend, he tells himself, his lips quirking ever so slightly when her hand grazes his as they walk down the street together.
Tumblr media
He invites her to the monthly gatherings that the MSBY players take turns to host for their family and friends, making the excuse that he needs a human shield in any event hosted by Miya Atsumu. She agrees easily, perking up at the chance to spend a Sunday afternoon with her cousin and niece - ‘ and Kaiyo’ll need help, especially since she’s pregnant’, bringing far too many cupcakes topped with the lightest, fluffiest cream cheese frosting he’s ever had the pleasure of tasting. Even Miya Osamu gives her a nod of respect after stuffing his face full of her cupcakes.  He, unlike his twin, has good taste.
Her brow furls into a concerned frown when he quietly sneaks himself a second cupcake. ‘You don’t have to force yourself to eat it just to be polite! I made it, so  I  know it has so much sugar and butter it would make your nutritionist weep. If you want, I snuck some zucchini cake in my handbag for you instead.’
He stubbornly shovels a large bite into his mouth. ‘I won’t tell if you don’t.’
She bursts into laughter, leaning forward to wipe away the smudge of frosting on the tip of his nose with her thumb.
Miya Kaiyo shoots him a knowing look across the room, waggling her eyebrows in an eerie imitation of her husband. He fights to keep his face blank, refusing to feed her satisfaction, but fails, a hot flush rising in his cheeks.
‘Traitor’ he mouths at her. Her smirk only deepens.
Fortunately, the gathering ends with no further mishaps, either to his physical well-being or his dignity. Makoto is packed off with Meian, the little boy whining for more time to play with Shino. Hinata and Bokuto prance off for some ridiculous buffet on the other side of town.
As for himself, he hangs back with her to help the Miyas put their house back in order, expelling an amused puff of a laugh from his nose when she forces the very pregnant Kaiyo to ‘stay still, for goodness sake!’  on the couch, dancing around the house with a mop, Shino trailing after her waving a feather duster with gusto. He refrains from telling the little girl that she’s more likely to spread  the dust than to actually clear it – at least she’s not causing more havoc this way.
‘I can’t believe I could’ve ever taken this for granted, y’know’, Atsumu comments from behind him, mouth wide in a tender smile. ‘It’s the best feeling in the world to have a wife and kid who loves ya to the moon and back, welcoming ya home after a long day at work. They make everything worth it.’
He’s thrown for a loop at this rare display of emotional vulnerability from the usually obnoxious setter and for once, does not resort to hostility, choosing instead to acknowledge the blonde setter’s words with a tacticum nod.
The Miyas’ apartment is far too chaotic for his tastes, with colourful toys scattered on the floor, mismatched picture frames of the little family on the walls, but laughter hangs in the air, and light spills from the windows, illuminating the warmth and love and fondness in every look and word the Miyas gift each other.
His father gave him a compass when he was a child, as a present to celebrate his first match. His mother clucked her tongue because it’s a strange gift for a child - delicate, fiddly, its gold exterior tarnished with age. But his father chuckled and told him that he’s old enough to appreciate that the compass is his father’s, and his father’s father before that, an heirloom to remind their sons to work hard at everything they do, and to keep their hearts on course, pointing north.
And Sakusa thinks he’s done that. He’s worked and worked and worked at perfecting his skills in his chosen sport. He’s accepted his solo course, so laser focused on carving out a career in professional sports leaves little time or space for intimate relationships. Not to mention the fact that watching the disaster of Atsumu’s early years of marriage from the sidelines, made him swear off similar heartbreak for himself.
But there are times when he can’t help but feel a little lonely - when he has to struggle to find a date for MSBY events, when he has no one to celebrate the holidays with, when he goes home every day to his neat, cold apartment with space for only one occupant.
The compass in his heart creaks. It starts to turn a few degrees just off-course.
Tumblr media
‘Do you ever wonder what it’d be like to get married?’ he asks her as he’s walking her home that night.
‘I did, once upon a time’, she shrugs carelessly. He misses the sudden strain in her smile. ‘Why do you ask?’
He stays silent for a while, the length of the quiet street giving him time to properly ferment his response. He considers the effects of adding splashes of colour to his dull life, weighs it against his long cultivated instinct to avoid the potential chaos of any emotional entanglements. He finds himself suddenly craving the sweetness of cream cheese frosting, and wonders how it’d be like to come home to light, fluffy cakes baked by her hands.
When they reach her apartment block, she tilts her head at him curiously, obviously awaiting his answer. He tugs his words together, strings his swirling thoughts into a decipherable sentence.
‘Because Atsumu and Kaiyo seem happy together. And I wondered if we’d be happy together too.’
He watches her puzzle over his words, her brow furling into a confused frown. ‘And I wasn’t proposing, by the way’, he feels the need to clarify.
She snorts. ‘I didn’t think so.’ With a directness that he very much appreciates, she looks at him squarely and asks - ‘Are you asking me out, Sakusa Kiyoomi?’
He meets her gaze. ‘Yes, I am. We’ve known each other for a decently long time for me to conclude our personalities are well matched, and we’re both mature adults who respect each other’s work schedules and commitments. And if you don’t mind that I can be overly blunt and quiet sometimes - ‘
‘ - which I don’t’, she interjects, with a chuckle.
‘I think we might be happy together’, he concludes, with a small smile that’s becoming more common in her presence.
He allows her the space to turn his proposition over in her mind.
‘Alright’, she finally says. ‘I guess we can give it a go’.
So much for Atsumu accusing him of having a heart made out of tin. Flesh and muscle works overtime to pump blood into his cheeks as she slots her fingers between his and gives his hand a squeeze.
Tumblr media
Being in a relationship isn’t too different from what they had before.
They still keep to their standing date to meet every Tuesday (schedules permitting, of course). But now he doesn’t have to make up excuses to ask her out on outings that aren’t food related. At first he tries his best to adhere to dating norms, arranging for romantic dates at candlelit restaurants, buying her massive bouquets that make her sneeze.
‘It’s fine, Omi’, she tells him gently after they spend another uncomfortable evening in a dimly lit restaurant eating off plates too large for the laughably tiny food portions. ‘I’m happy just hanging out with you. You don’t have to go out of your way to impress me, I’m not holding on to any ridiculous expectations of you’. He stops after that, glad he doesn’t have to suffer another night trying to decipher which utensil to be used at which course, or having to put on starched formal wear to yet another stuffy restaurant.
She’s noticeably happier when they accompany each other on trips to the supermarket, each holding a stack of coupons to take advantage of the latest deals. She shields him from any overly zealous obaa-sans with gusto, throwing elbows and using her grocery basket as a makeshift battering ram before they crowd close enough to him to trigger his anxiety. He helps her reach for things on the top shelf ‘to prevent her from scaling the grocery shelves like an overgrown teenager’ , he snarks. He’s worried his attempt at teasing lands wrong, but she snorts and thanks him good naturedly anyways.
On the weekends, they develop a habit of meal prepping for the rest of the week at her apartment. His kitchen lacks the fancy mixers and blenders that she has, and in all honesty, his dark, spartan apartment lacks the sunlight and warmth that spills into her apartment from the windows, so it’s only logical that they should spend the bulk of their time there. It’s an oasis of calm for him, chopping vegetables and chicken into small cubes, sautéing them for the week ahead, while she bustles around whipping eggs and flour and milk together to form another delectable cake that they always end up sharing at the end of the day.
He starts to dread matches away from home a little more than he used to. While hotel rooms are as spartan as his own apartment, he doesn’t have the option of heading over to her apartment to bask in her quiet warmth. His meals come in styrofoam boxes instead of the glass tupperware she stacks on her kitchen counter, and he turns up his nose at store bought cakes that his teammates offer him, only craving for those baked in her oven. He even starts looking up to the stands for a glimpse of her, only to remember that she can’t be there to cheer the team on.
‘Cheer up, Omi-omi! We’ll have a home match next week’, Atsumu tells him jovially.
‘It doesn’t matter either way to me’, he mutters resentfully, but the setter only grins.
‘Trust me, it matters a great deal to have the girl ya love cheering ya on, y’know?’
He stalks off to the changing room, ignoring the peals of laughter from the blonde annoyance he leaves in his wake.
The tight coil of loneliness only loosens when he sees her waiting for him at the station when he returns. She ignores his protests to snag his suitcase away from him, the case looking comically large against her small frame, but she uses it effectively as a tank to force a path through the crowd, and drag him back to her apartment in no time.
‘You need a home cooked dinner to make up for all those industrially prepared food you must’ve been eating this entire week’, she tells him, bustling around the kitchen, only stilling when he takes her shoulders in his hands.
‘Are you happy?’ he asks, when he cups her face to carefully brush the dusting of flour on her cheek away.
‘Why wouldn’t I be?’ She laughs, the sound fond.
‘Just checking in’, he tells her, closing his eyes as she pulls him down towards her for a kiss.
All in all, it’s a happy, uncomplicated relationship. He likes it that way.
If his heart were a compass, he’d suspect it’s broken because instead of pointing north, it starts to inch inexorably towards her.
Tumblr media
But there are strange quirks he notices about her that niggles at his brain.
She refuses point blank to check out the planetarium when she attends an event held at the adjacent Art Museum as his date, professing to have an irrational dislike for stars.
‘They’re just balls of burning gas and light ’ , he points out. ‘What could you possibly have against them?’
There’s a flicker of irritation in her eyes that he does not miss. ‘I know it’s stupid but just humour me, ok?’ Her tone verges on a snarl, before she storms away, ostensibly to the bathroom to freshen herself up.
She returns later with an apology for her behaviour. Though he’s confused, he respects her privacy and does not push for an answer.
Tumblr media
He’s at her apartment preparing meals for the week ahead when the doorbell rings and an enormous bouquet of white lilies are deposited into her arms. She stares dumbly at the flowers, their sickly sweet scent permeating the air.
His brow furls. ‘Today isn’t your birthday, is it?’
His words jolt her out of her trance. ‘No’, she answers, before inexplicably storming to the living room and dumping the bouquet with a vengeance on the coffee table. Pollen flutters to the floor, delicate white petals crushed in her hands.
‘It’s nothing’, she tells him as he shoots her a questioning look.
When she disappears to the washroom, he peeks at the card. There’s no name on it, just a simple message - ‘consider it, please?’
He doesn’t question her about it when she returns to the kitchen. She doesn’t offer him any answers either.
Tumblr media
He finds himself wondering about them.
It was refreshing at first to have a relationship free of any expectations. She never asks for more than he’s willing to give, seems happy enough to slot herself into the pockets of time he offers, only attends his games when he gives her tickets, doesn’t get upset with him when he inevitably forgets to text.
But therein lies the issue, doesn’t it?
If she truly likes him, wants to pursue a relationship seriously with him, shouldn’t she be demanding more than the crumbs of affection and attention he shows her? They’re both past the age of thirty, shouldn’t she be looking to get married and settle down, maybe spawn a demon child or two?
He’s tried raising it with her once, but she responded with confusion.
‘I don’t have any expectations of you, Omi’, she’d replied. ‘We both have busy lives, so whatever you’re willing to give, I’m happy to take’.
There’s technically nothing wrong about her answer. It’s wholly considerate and kind - very much her.
Still, it makes him wonder - if her heart were a compass, would it point towards him?
Tumblr media
He manages to hold his tongue until she gets another delivery of flowers.
This time he opens the door when the doorbell rings, assaulted by the heady scent of lillies, pollen smeared on his sleeves. This time, there’s a name on the card.
Oikawa Tooru .
It takes a couple of seconds for him to realise why the name is so familiar. It’s the same name Hinata and Kageyama used to buzz about every Olympics - the famous Argentinian setter who started his career as a schoolboy from Miyagi, a prodigious setter who never made it to Nationals in high school, refused to give up and forged his way to success in a whole new land, continents away.
‘How do you know Oikawa’? He asks her. ‘And why does he keep sending your flowers?’
‘He’s just an old acquaintance,’ she admits. ‘He’s just sending the flowers to persuade me to attend his wedding.’
His forehead crinkles in confusion, and he tries his best not to leap to conclusions, but since she doesn’t seem to be forthcoming with further clarification, he presses her further.
‘And why won’t you attend his wedding?’
Her shoulders slouch in obvious reluctance as she turns away, focusing her attention on the mixing bowl. But Kiyoomi isn’t easily deterred, so he firmly takes the mixing bowl from her and sets it on the countertop. He raises an eyebrow at her, clearly seeking an answer.
She huffs a sigh through her nose. ‘Because he’s getting married to my ex-boyfriend, ok?’
He blinks. That was unexpected.
‘It happened half a decade ago. Ancient history. I’m over it.’ She mutters to the floor.
‘Why didn’t you tell me about it?’
‘Because it’s none of your business’, she snaps, grabbing the mixing bowl again, beating the batter with a vengeance.
‘You’re going to ruin the texture if you whisk it too hard’, he tugs the bowl away from her again. She refuses to relinquish her grip.
‘Leave me alone!’ she snarls, yanking the bowl back. Confused by her sudden fury, he lets go of the bowl, only for her to stumble back, eyes wide as she loses her balance, knocking her head against the countertop.
He drops down onto his knees, not even noticing the batter soaking into his pants, combing through her hair, scouring the back of her neck for any sign of injury. It’s only when he’s satisfied that her fall has resulted in nothing more than a bruise that should go away by tomorrow that he notices her tears soaking the front of his shirt.
‘Do you want to tell me what’s wrong?’ he asks, wiping her tears away with a batter splattered thumb.
She hangs her head, body still shaking from her sobs. ‘I’ve already made such a mess of things – don’t want you to have to listen to my nonsense – am just bein’ stupid, that’s all - ’.
He patiently waits until her sobs dissolves into mere sniffles before speaking. ‘I want you to tell me what’s wrong. If you’re up to it.’
So through more broken sobs and hiccups, he listens to the tale of Iwaizumi Hajime, a boy who was her world, who only realised he was always in love with Oikawa Tooru, a fortnight before she and he were to wed. Her voice wavers as she tells him the full story of the white lilies, explains that her irrational dislike for stars stems from the reminder that she chose to give her world up to a boy-king burning brighter than the stars in the night sky combined.
He waits until her words run out, and she’s leaning against him, broken and pliant in a way that makes his heart ache.
‘I wish you told me about it earlier’, he tells her, tucking the loose strands of hair behind her ear. ‘That you would trust me enough to tell me about the things that hurt you in the past. And I wonder about the state of our relationship if you don’t even trust me enough for that’.
‘That’s unfair. You never asked - ‘
‘How could I ask about something I didn’t even know about?’ He takes hold of her shoulders, forcing her to look at him. Hurt and anger and shock simmer in her eyes, each swirl of emotion fighting for dominance.
‘I didn’t want to expect anything more from this relationship than you were willing to give’, she admits after a pause.
She’s scared of being hurt again. He doesn’t miss the subtext.
‘Shall I tell you what I want from you then? I have a list, if you’re willing to hear me out’ he asks, with a smile that’s growing more common the more time he spends around her.
She nods, but keeps her gaze stubbornly on the ground.
He takes his time to choose his words. He’s never been verbose - not like Atsumu or Bokuto or even easygoing Motoya, choosing to only say what is strictly necessary, using the precise amount of words, nothing more, nothing less. But this is a situation that requires more emotion rather than precision, so he inhales a shaky breath, letting it fuel the sentiment in his heart as he exhales.
‘First. I want you to trust that I’ll never hurt you like he did’, he says, and with a self-deprecating smile he adds - ‘I don’t have any childhood friends to be secretly in love with besides Motoya, and I’m hardly going to be pining after my flake of a cousin’.
That triggers the corners of her lips to tilt upwards, and encouraged, he carries on.
‘Second. I want you to be open with me about what you want - your dreams, your expectations of me. I want to hear them all because  you’re important to me.’
That makes her flush pink, and she sneaks a glance up towards him.
‘Third. I want to wake up each morning with you by my side and come home to you every night. I want to watch you fight cranky old ladies in the supermarket in my honour, be the first person to taste test all your baking experiments - even the failed ones that are only fit to feed Atsumu. I want us to be happy together. Forever, if possible.’
He lifts her bodily into his lap, brushes his nose against her cheek. ‘Now that I’ve told you what I’m willing to give, is that too much for you to take?’ he murmurs against her lips.
Her blush blossoms into a deep scarlet, but her eyes are iridescent pools of startled delight. She doesn’t speak, sealing her answer instead with her lips.
His heart’s compass is irretrievably broken, the needle melted into place. It doesn’t point north any longer, no  – it’s always going to point towards her.
Tumblr media
They move in together after that.
He gives up his apartment, professing to prefer the warmth and light of hers. The Miyas help him move in even when he tries to refuse their help, Atsumu helping him to lug cardboard boxes up the stairs, Kaiyo helping him sort out his belongings, sorting them into his allocated cupboards.
When they’re done, they order pizza and she bakes a cake to celebrate. ‘An impromptu housewarming’ she says, toasting Miya Kaiyo with a slice of pepperoni pizza with a laugh.
Kiyoomi shares a slice of chocolate cake with Atsumu in complete defiance of their nutritionist’s advice, jostling forks over the very last bite. She and Kaiyo scold them teasingly, telling them to behave like they’re actually thirty and not teenagers on the cusp of adulthood. Atsumu pulls at Kaiyo’s ponytail in retaliation. He refuses to engage in similar tomfoolery, reddening instead when she reaches over to ruffle his curls.
‘This is nice’, he remarks to Atsumu later, when their significant others are out of earshot, gossiping and giggling about something or other.
‘It is, isn’t it’, Atsumu replies, a dopey smile on his face as he stares at his wife.
It truly is , Kiyoomi thinks, staring at her.

He takes over most of the cleaning, it clears his mind, he tells her. So to split the chores evenly, she insists on doing their laundry and cooking, and he doesn’t even nag her too much when she forgets to split the white and coloured clothes and stains some of his shirts once in a while.
Wedding invites printed on expensive cream paper and bouquets of white lilies start to litter their doorstep every day. He tries his best to dispose of them before they reach her sight, but every so often, he comes home too late, catches her wilt as she brushes white petals from their doorstep.
‘I don’t blame either of them’, she tells him, after he asks if she’d like him to call Iwaizumi and tell him to drown himself in a vat of batter, thank you very much.
‘You’re too kind to both of them’ he says plainly, as they share a pot of tea, his head pillowed in her lap. ‘I would’ve just set them both on fire and left them to rot.’
‘Hajime loved Tooru for almost all his life - I just wanted to see him happy in the end. Argh  - I sound so stupid and sentimental like an old grandma, just laugh at me already’ she complains, hiding her burning cheeks in her hands.
‘You aren’t stupid for being kind.’ He hums, quiet and low. ‘It’s why I love you so.’
He relishes the soft light dawning in her eyes, captures her whispered affection with careful fingers, spins them into gold.
Tumblr media
He has to turn off the stove to answer the door when some rude lout bangs on their front door far too early on a Sunday morning.
With his coldest sneer and thinking resentfully about his breakfast, Kiyoomi swings the door open, fully intent on looming over the disturbance with his full height, but takes a step back instead when he finds one Iwaizumi Hajime hanging off the door knob.
‘Hello’, Iwaizumi looks up at him confusedly.
‘Hi’, he nods a greeting back at his old Olympic team trainer. They stare at each other.
‘Eh - I think I’ve got the wrong house’, Iwaizumi scratches the back of his neck awkwardly. ‘Sorry about that, Sakusa-san.’
He’s about to close the door in Iwaizumi’s face when her voice chimes in, clear as a bell.
‘Who’s at the door, Omi?’
The shorter man shoots him a look of barely contained rage as he uses his bulk to push his way through the doorway towards her. Kiyoomi tries to stop him, protesting that he can’t barge into someone’s private property without an invitation like that, but it’s as futile an endeavour as trying to block the path of a raging storm.
Iwaizumi reaches her first, raising a hand as if to cup her face by instinct, before letting it fall back limply by his side. ‘You weren’t answering any of my messages or calls’, he says. ‘I was worried about you.’
She stares at him blankly for a moment. Then fire sparks in her eyes.
‘Well, as you can see, I’m completely fine’, she replies, jaw and fists clenched. ‘You don’t need to do a welfare check on me, we’re not involved anymore.’
The scorching pain in Iwaizumi’s eyes is evident, even from a distance away. ‘Yeah. Well. I thought we were friends. You didn’t even tell me you were dating again’. He shoves his hands in his pockets, tossing another heated glance in Kiyoomi’s way.
‘I didn’t think I needed to update my ex-fiance about my love life, especially not when he’s trying to drag me to attend his wedding that I already said I’m not going to attend’, she bites back.
Iwaizumi opens his mouth, then closes it with a resounding snap. ‘I’m sorry’, he says, with heartbreaking honesty. ‘I told Tooru that you probably didn’t want to hear from us, but he insisted and I got worried when I didn’t hear from you for months’.
Kiyoomi can see her glare soften into molten sympathy. The tension in the air crackles with electricity. He’s neither blind nor stupid – he can sense the years of longing and love not quite lost between them.
He thinks she loves him, Sakusa Kiyoomi – weird habits, cold disposition and all, but the doubt clogging up his arteries and veins is enough to make his heart seize – and if she’s going to break his heart, he’d much rather she not do it in front of Iwaizumi.
‘Hajime - ‘ she begins to say, and at this point he jumps in -
‘I’ll excuse myself so you both have the chance to catch up’, he says, waving aside her protests as he slips on his shoes. Even in his haste to leave the house, he clicks his tongue at the mess Iwaizumi left behind at their  genkan , kneeling down to arrange their shoes, only standing up when he’s satisfied they’re neatly arranged back in place.
‘Omi, you don’t have to leave’, she says, holding the door open.
He shrugs his shoulders at her, nose and mouth already obscured by his usual face mask. ‘Let me know when you’d like me to come back’.
If she’d like him to come back. She doesn’t chase after him, after all.
It’s a beautiful Sunday morning, but the golden sunshine feels more like a taunt rather than a balm to his mood. His stomach growls, making him long for the scrambled eggs he was in the middle of frying before he was so rudely interrupted, but his growing sense of nausea keeps him from seeking out an alternative meal.
Instead, he makes his way to the park, sits on a relatively clean bench. There are couples a-plenty, strolling around hand in hand, families picnicking merrily around him, compounding the growing chasm of loneliness in his chest. He tries to count the seconds by his breaths, tries not to let the minutes expand the insecurities crawling, inch by inch up his throat.
He sits alone. Poised, yet short of breath.
He wonders if Iwaizumi Hajime has finally figured out that stars, for all their brilliance, cannot compensate for their lack of human kindness. And if so, he wonders which direction her heart would point towards if it were a compass - whether it’s as broken as his, and whether it points towards Iwaizumi or him.
He waits.
Then his phone buzzes.
Ah.
She’s asking him to come home. He does not dare to overthink the meaning of that single word. But he does not hide that his steps back  home are lighter than when he left, though the key in his hand shakes so hard it takes him three tries to fit it into the keyhole. He does not try to suffocate the seed of hope budding in the soft earth of his heart when he realises Iwaizumi’s shoes have vanished without a trace.
“Omi?”
She’s waiting for him, slipping warm arms around his waist, tangling her fingers in his curls, ignoring his complaints about letting himself wash his hands first.
‘Am I silly for missing you, even though it’s only been an hour?’
He refuses to be distracted by the affection in her voice.
‘But what about Iwaizumi?’ he frowns, hesitation still poisoning the well of thoughts in his mind.
Perhaps it’s a testament to how well they’ve grown to know each other that she doesn’t need to read the silent subtext of his statement. She smiles, bringing his palm flat against her chest, does not answer until his pulse matches the steady beat of her heart.
‘I love you , Omi’, she tells him. Her heartbeat does not quicken, her smile does not waver. ‘You told me not to long ago to always be upfront with you about what  I  want so I’m going to be honest with you now - Iwaizumi is only ever going to be my past, and I want you from now on’.
If her heart were a compass, the steady beat of her heart tells him, it would point only towards him.
‘That is – if you’ll have me’, she adds, a shadow of doubt suddenly appearing on her face.
‘Don’t be ridiculous’, he scoffs, burying his nose to breathe in the familiar scent of vanilla in her hair. ‘Who else would I rather have than you?’
Who else would he be lucky enough to call his home – a woman with a heart large enough to fit a whole ocean within its depths, with kindness in her eyes and mirth in her smiles.
She laughs in spite of the salt in her throat and water in her eyes, leaning on her toes in a vain attempt to reach his face. He lifts her into her arms, laughs when she squeals indignantly as her feet only find air, toppling them both onto the couch where he can seat her between his legs, press kisses to her cheeks.
She’ll tell him later that Iwaizumi came looking for her because he’s never outgrown his overprotective streak, and he’s truly happy for her - for them, because they’ve both moved on with their separate lives. And she ended up agreeing to attend his and Oikawa’s wedding on one condition – that an invitation is extended to him, Sakusa Kiyoomi, to attend with her as his date.
He’ll tell her later that he’s happy to attend the wedding with her, just not to expect him to smile in any wedding pictures. And more importantly, he’ll tell her in his plain way that the list of expectations he has of their relationship has expanded yet again.
He’ll lay out his dreams of a pair of matching golden rings to bind them to lifelong companionship, of hellspawn of their own and a dog, maybe two.
He’ll ask her if it’s too much for him to ask of her.
She’ll tell him that she’s willing to give him everything he asks for and more.

It’s Miya Shino’s ninth birthday party.
He’s retired from volleyball proper, and is thankful he insisted on getting a business degree from Chuo University before going pro, because it comes in handy working alongside Kuroo Tetsuro at the volleyball association.
Miya Atsumu insists on inviting him to the party, though he supposes he’s invited not by virtue of being a former teammate, but because he’s also Shino’s uncle by marriage now. The thought that he’s related to Miya Atsumu, however distant and most definitely not by blood, still fills him with dread.
The birthday girl is a little less imbued with her father’s chaotic energy this time, though she still squeals when her birthday cake is unveiled – though to be fair it’s less a cake, more a tower of cupcakes with cream cheese frosting spelling out her name.
‘Thank you Auntie!’ Shino cries, flinging her arms around her. Kiyoomi flinches at the sight of anyone, even his nine year old niece, coming in close contact with his extremely pregnant wife, but a sharp glare from her subdues any complaint he dares to make.
He fusses over her the minute he has the chance to corral her away from the clutches of Miya Shino. ‘Are your feet hurting? What about your back? I don’t know why you insist on walking so much when you know the doctor said you should be on bed rest soon’.
‘Stop fussing, Omi! The baby and I will be fine’, she replies, exasperated. ‘This is the last social event scheduled before I pop and I’m determined to enjoy it while I can.’ Then she scuttles off faster than he imagines her frame allows, leaving him floundering in her wake.
‘Just let her be’, Miya Atsumu laughs, slapping his back. Kiyoomi is on the verge of pointing out -  pot, meet kettle, reminding Atsumu that the last time Kaiyo was pregnant, Atsumu didn’t stop fretting until she went into labour and delivered a healthy baby boy. But then he remembers the grief etched into Atsumu’s face when Kaiyo miscarried in the stands during a game, so he holds his tongue and rolls his eyes instead.
‘I’m just worried she’s pushing herself too hard’, he admits in a rare bout of vulnerability.
Atsumu smiles, genuine for once. ‘Those crazy women, eh? They’re always gonna drive us up the wall, but they’re worth every minute of it.’
He looks at her, belly swollen with their first child, peach blossoms blooming in her cheeks. His past self would never imagine that he’d find this much joy and contentment in being a husband and a father, but then again his past self was satisfied coming home alone day after day to a cold apartment. He knows better now - life is so better when he has her, sharing stories of their day of over steaming mugs of tea at their kitchen countertop, listening to her hum as she bakes treats for the weekend, warmth and laughter and love abound in their cosy apartment for two, soon to be three.
So feeling vaguely drunk though he hasn’t had a drop of alcohol in the months since she whispered during their anniversary dinner that they were expecting, Kiyoomi laughs aloud.
Atsumu lifts his eyebrows in surprise.
‘She really, really is’, Kiyoomi says, breaking into an unguarded smile.

The Same Kind of Person
Day 20: Opposites!
FFN / AO3
Takes place during their date in the one-shot manga!
They weren't, really.
No matter how much some people may have boggled at the "strange" combination of dark and bright, loud and shy, deep down, they were the same kind of person inside.
It was just that they expressed this in very, very different ways.
***
She was walking with Naruto along the crowded street of Konoha's shopping district, he with one arm folded behind his head like he always did when he was nervous.
It was strange, in Hinata's opinion, that he was nervous at all. Usually, she was the one who was nervous about these things. Yet here she was calm, no heat making its way to her face or dizziness to her head.
"What should we do now?" she asked him, smiling brightly. Calm down, Naruto-kun.
"Well, it's noon, so let's get some food?" he suggested, practically skipping to the nearest and most expensive place he could find.
Hinata stopped herself from audibly sighing, noting the tenseness in his shoulders, and when she activated her Byakugan, the sweat pouring down his face and the handful of notes in his wallet.
He still wasn't calm. Because he wanted to impress her.
An old memory trickled in from the crevices of her mind, of herself and a Neji nii-san from years and years ago. At how he was watching her, finally watching her as he'd never watched her before.
In front of the one I admire the most...I can't afford to look uncool.
She smiled then, reaching out to grab his arm with hers.
"I...I want to eat at Ichiraku's."
She heard Gama-chan sigh in relief.
"I...I see." Hinata could have laughed at the expression on his face, like he was back at the Chuunin Exams, like the proctor had just given him a test he didn't know the answers to, that he'd somehow passed without writing anything. But back then, he refused to take her helpful hint, the shortcut she'd offered.
That wouldn't be happening this time.
"Okay, let's go," she said, dragging him along in the direction of the correct answer. "I know you like it too, Naruto-kun."
As they wandered along to the familiar noren curtains announcing one of the greatest pleasures in life, she couldn't help but smile again.
They weren't opposites after all. When it counted, they were the same kind of person deep down.

I had this one au where Post Game Future Foundation Agents! Komahina somehow get blasted back to the past and to the simulator, and meet their in game counter parts, like about right after the second trial where everyone thinks Nagito is crazy. Why?
-The class of 77-B seeing a version of Nagito in the future that got the help he needed and is growing beautifully from his trauma, and therefore able to socialize with Nagito and have a genuine connection and understand him.
-The class asking what's up with the whole fancy suits and PG! Nagito's metal arm, and Nagito being a little shit and lying through his teeth, telling a story with enough holes in the plot that will give cheese a run for its money, and his lover a stroke.
-The class of 77-B, and the in game version of themselves being incredibly shocked and flustered when they find out PG! Nagito and Hajime are a couple, and are doing couple things like hand holding/kissing, etc. Like healthy couple stuff-IG!
-IG! Nagito and Hajime asking PG! Hajime what his talent is and Hajime having to like, try to avoid the conversation desperately. PG! Nagito watches in amusement and his smile grows when his lover flares at him for being unhelpful.
- PG! Hajime also knows how to fluster Nagito like no other, and will use that on IG! Nagito when he gets worked up. He also knows how to ground Nagito when he spirals as well. (This is definitely not because he likes his own boyfriend getting a little huffy and jealous at another version of himself, no sirrr)
-PG! Nagito with long hair tied in a low ponytail and that becomes the center of attention because who thought Nagito's rat nest looking hair would be so soft and silky?
-PG! Nagito also getting back at his Hajime by giving attention acting like IG! Hajime's sugar daddy to IG! Hajime. IG! Hajime does not think of it as anything at first but feels weird around him, but PG! Hajime knows his Nagito is getting back at him for not showing him enough attention, and also knows Hajime doesn't know it yet but he's also gay as fuck and his boyfriend is the target of his attraction. FFs.
-PG! Hajime letting his boyfriend go a little feral, as a treat, and fuck around in the simulation just to make Monokuma's life harder. This is so long and stuff I'm so sorry but I have this au for so long and I love them and this au and I had to infodump
hey anon your brain is so huge actually i love this with all my heart??????
kdnfksnxkdbx i love that both pg! ko and hajime decide to fuck with each other just a little bit for funsies. it probably confuses the heck outta their ig! counterparts but i don’t think either of them would really mind that much for gay reasons <3 (sugar daddy is literally sending me rn skdjdkdnx)
god i can just see pg! hajime watching some of the stuff ig! nagito does/says to him and just turning to his nagito like “how. how did i not get the hint back then ;;;;;;;” and ig! hajime getting annoyed that he’s not getting the joke dkjfkdfbkd. ig! nagito is also a bit confused but also definitely has to cover a few laughs with his hand bc even future hinata-kun realizes he’s rather dense sometimes.............
hhhhhhhh how do you think nagito would react to him even still being alive after the killing game......... ahhh if pg! komahina were from a couple years into the future, i could see ig! nagito not really understanding how he could have lived that long, what with his diagnosis. especially if pg! nagito has his natural hair growing in again because he’s getting healthier......gahhhhh.........
oh oh do you think everyone would flip over pg!hajime’s red eye skdbskxbdkx. he probably has to scramble for a cover story and just spits out that he uses contacts. like. just. just one. for the aesthetic yknow ahahaha..........and pg! nagito does his best not to give hajime away but he’s totally dying laughing inside because even if hajime has a good lying face bc of his talents, nagito knows he’s panicking big time. (someone (probably hiyoko) says that he looks a bit like monokuma with the left red eye and pg! hajime sulks for the next hour)
ahhh wait i’m thinking about ig! hajime going to pg! hajime and asking what it was that made him fall for his nagito. and then while pg hajime is listing off the things he loves about his ko, ig hajime finds himself thinking of his nagito and realizing he kinda maybe feels that way too. and pg hajime looks at his past self and sort of smiles knowingly because he remembers how it felt to realize he was in love with nagito, even if he found out a little, or maybe a lot, later than this version of himself.

Confessions, Coffee, Kisses - Part 2
"After you, my liege."
He bowed.
Whenever this happened, the white haired male got a little flustered, though he masked that with laughter.
"Ah, some Reserve Course Students might have some manners after all~"
Hinata snickered as he went in after Komaeda.
"And you're saying we are cocky."
Komaeda chuckled, and Hinata was never so happy by hearing it before.
He was really glad he could be a good friend to Komaeda, just helping him out in any situation.
Hinata never thought he was good at comforting people in general, but Komaeda always seemed to get calm just by his presence.
It was... flattering, to say the least.
And mutual. Hinata could always see things clearer when with the lucky boy, even if some obvious hints went unseen.
Hinata turned to Komaeda, and asked him what kind of coffee he wanted.
The Thanks a Latte café belonged to a small family, but that's exactly what Hinata loved about it. It was tiny, cozy, didn't have many customers - perfect for the introvert Hinata, and the quiet-loving Komaeda.
The sun was beginning to set, soon orange and pink colours painting the spring sky.
Komaeda looked as if he came from a fantasy world, with all this warm backlighting.
The sun shone on his rosy pink cheeks, accentuating his handsome features.
Hinata couldn't help but blush at the sight, and had to blink himself back to reality to hear Komaeda's actual answer.
"...as usual."
He saw the lucky student pause, tilting his head.
Which Hinata found adorable.
"Hinata-kun?"
Oh, the way he said his name. How much he loved hearing it from his mouth.
Hinata knew Komaeda was attractive. What he missed is putting two and two together; if he thinks Komaeda is attractive, then he is attracted to him.
While that could be platonic, it didn't feel platonic between them.
The way the white haired boy raised his eyebrows, his curious yet worried facial expressions... wait, worried?!
That's what got Hinata snapping back to the moment, and he bowed his head in an apology.
"It's nothing, s-sorry..."
Komaeda pouted.
"Why does he have to be so cute?"
"Hinata-kun, it's pretty rude to space out when someone's talking to you!"
Though a hint of worry was still present on Komaeda's face, it bothering Hinata.
"Hmpf, you probably didn't sleep enough tonight either, did you, now?"
Oookay, Hinata didn't expect that.
As usual, Komaeda just hit the bullseye, or at least a certain truth.
Hinata didn't really sleep, due to his schoolwork, and the amount of extra work he volunteered for.
He looked down, guilty.
"Komaeda, I... I told you I am sorry... I really didn't sleep much... but why does that matter?"
Komaeda just looked personally offended, crossing his arms, and leaning closer to Hinata... which seemed a little intimidating because of the slight height difference.
"K-Komaeda...?"
Hinata blushed at the short proximity between them, but he was also a little afraid.
"Hinata-kun! Why shouldn't it matter? How can you say something like that... your sleeping schedule matters because You matter."
He looked a bit betrayed, if I'm being honest.
Hinata felt awful, though quite flattered at the same time. Feelings sure are confusing, aren't they?
If anything, Komaeda just looked upset now, mixed with sadness. That might've been the reason he lowered his voice, and changed his posture.
"Hinata-kun, I care about you. Is it... really not obvious?"
The brunette nodded at his response.
"I-I know that... you're my closest friend, after all..."
The white haired boy gave him an unamused expression, and sighed.
"Guess I am... now, seemingly you not catching it before, I'll have a latte macchiato with vanilla flavour."
As Komaeda stepped back, Hinata could let out a breath he didn't know he was holding.
"The usual, huh~?"
Hinata teased good-heartedly.
"What else did you expect, it's the best one."
Komaeda declared with confidence.
"Mmm, sure sure. Then I'll order that too, see if it's really the best."
The lucky student narrowed his eyes at Hinata, his expression saying "are you testing me?"
Which the brunette responded to with a shrug and a "maybe~"
They sat down to their usual spot, in one of the corners.
Hinata really adored the aesthetic of the café; the walls were made out of wood, fairy lights hanged all over above them, with the wide windows and comfortable seats... if anything, it felt like a wooden cottage straight out from some fairytale.
After they placed their orders, Hinata couldn't help but gaze at the other boy in front of him. He looked so ethereal, backlit by the setting sun...
Komaeda was no different, once he locked gazes with Hinata, he just couldn't look away. Not that he wanted to.
The two only came back to their senses when the waitress arrived, and handed them their coffee. They both bowed and thanked her, and Hinata awkwardly put some sugar in his.
"We legitimately just stared at each other for at least 4 minutes... friends don't do such, right? Not this way, at least..."
Hinata was slowly piecing things together.
Komaeda, on the other hand was really flustered, he just locked gazes with his friend and crush.
After taking a sip of his coffee and thinking over if he should really try this -he broke the silence.
"Hinata-kun."
The brunette looked at him curiously, tilting his head like a puppy.
"Hmm?"
Komaeda blushed. This is it. He just have to play his cards well.
It was a part of his act, so he looked to the side, embarrassed.
"I hate to ruin the mood like this, but I have to be honest with you."
Hinata's heart skipped a beat.
"You wouldn't ruin anything... so go on?"
After a dramatic sigh and a pause, Komaeda looked at him with sad eyes.
"I lost my keys somewhere in the academy... s-so I ugh..."
He blushed.
"I c-can't sleep in my room tonight."
Hinata was sort of disappointed. That was not what he wanted to hear.
"Wait, why was I expecting him to-"
"So... I-I wouldn't want to be rude or anything, I-I know better than anyone else that I am ultimately worthless, b-but I was hoping...  maybe! B-because we're like... friends... and all that w-we could... maybe... uhm..."
Hinata smiled at the flustered behaviour of Komaeda, and decided to have mercy on the poor guy.
"You want to have a sleepover?"
Komaeda gave him a cautious nod.
"I-if that wouldn't be t-too much to ask for..."
Now, Komaeda was sly, he had a plan to show Hinata his feelings towards him, but he didn't "act" nearly as much as he thought he would.
He did plan some of this out, such as the lie about his keys - he'll still have to drop those in a nearby bush as they head to Hinata's place - but he certainly was not acting his flustered state.
The brunette gave him a reassuring smile.
"Of course I wouldn't mind."
He chuckled.
"You act like you've never been to my place before. It's kind of cute."
That last sentence kind of worked his way out on his own, Hinata didn't mean to say it, but nor did he regret it.
To mask that, he drank some of his coffee.
On the other hand, Komaeda was blushing hard.
"D-did he just indirectly call me cute-?"
Hinata did his best to keep his calm demeanor, though seeing a flustered Komaeda was strangely enjoyable.
He took another sip of his coffee, declaring that it indeed was good; he still preferred cappuccino.
As the sun fell under then horizon, both boys were finished with their coffees.
Hinata argued with Komaeda, because it was "his turn to pay",  but the other argued back at him.
Puffing his cheeks, the white haired boy scoffed.
"Hinata-kun did so many nice things to me today, let me repay you!"
"Komaeda, I didn't do this because I am nice, I did it because you're my friend."
"You're my friend too, aren't you? So why wouldn't you let me pay, Hinata-kun?"
The brunette sighed. Technically, Komaeda had way more money than he did, and he knew sooner or later Komaeda is going to use that dirty card...
"Y-yes, I am your friend, but why are you getting so worked up about money- It's just money!"
Hinata didn't understand at all.
The lucky student took the initiative, and got them enough money so he could pay for both.
The shorter male didn't approve.
"K-Komaeda, what are you doing?! I didn't agr-"
He got a death stare.
And a grin.
"Hinata-kun would never agree to me paying for him. I just had to be faster."
The way Komaeda said that last word sent shivers down on Hinata's spine.
...which he got weirded out by pretty quickly.
"W-what kind of reaction was that-"
"But K-Komaeda... I offered to buy you a coffee first."
The brunette said it in a whine-y and disappointed tone.
"I know, but it's alright, Hinata-kun. This is my expression of gratitude."
When the white haired boy gave Hinata that smile, he couldn't argue anymore.
After our protagonist gave in, and made peace with the fact that even though it was his turn, Komaeda paid for his coffee, the journey to his apartment was tranquil. The taller boy did make sure to drop his key in a nearby bush, just so his luck wouldn't get him found out.
"Hinata-kun."
Hinata turned to the other male as he heard his name.
"Hmm?"
"Won't I be a bother?"

Summary: When her gorgeous coworker hesitates to make the first move, Hinata plans to drop a few more hints.
Pairing: Hyuuga Hinata/Uzumaki Naruto
Written for @naruto-smut-monday 2021 - January Prompt: Snowed In.
(Please excuse that it’s already February 😓)
Rated E for smut and no plot.
Short One-Shot: Making It Obvious
The click-click of heels approaching make her straighten up and pretend to focus on her computer.  Her boss, Kurenai, stops at her workstation.  “Hinata, you should really go home soon.  You heard that it’s going to snow tonight, right?”
“I know, I just, I really want to finish this before the weekend.  I think I’ll be done soon.”  Hinata looks up pleadingly, hoping that her trustworthy demeanor doesn’t fail her now, hoping that her boss believes her.
“You’re not finished, yet, with that report?” Kurenai asks.
“I’m almost done.”
“Well, okay...drive home safely, Hinata.  And if it starts snowing, take a rideshare home.  I’m leaving now, and you should, too.”
“Yes, thank you.  You drive home safely, too.”  And out of everything Hinata’s said, those were the only sincere words.  Because in truth, Hinata was done with the report an hour ago, and she’s been doing her best to look busy…
Kurenai has walked across the room, disappearing behind a partition, and she can hear her repeating similar sentiments to another coworker.  “Naruto, go home soon.”
“Yeah, I know, I know, I will.”  His warm voice carries clearly, straight to her heart.
“Have a good weekend.  Drive home safely.”
“Thanks, you, too, Boss.”
Hinata shifts her legs, and the slide of the sheer, black tights she chose to wear to give her some extra self-confidence for today’s personal mission makes a slight heat pool in her core.  But she smiles and nods normally as her boss bids her goodbye, heads toward the elevators, and disappears from view.
She takes a careful breath.
It’s just Naruto and her now.  Just them, alone in the office.  The super good-looking man who’s been unconsciously (?) flirting with her just a few tables away.
A “friendly” pat on her head.  A glance at certain places on her body when he thinks she doesn’t know.  Lingering by the coffeepot when she’s there, too.
So why hasn’t he asked her out on a date, yet?!
She’s been trying to work her nerve up for a few weeks now.  If he won’t make a move, then she will.
Or so she thinks she will.
It’s now or never.
Now.
Or.
Never.
Thirty minutes later, she’s still sitting in her same spot, and each minute makes her regret her choices.
She can’t just go up to him, looking like how she is, trying to be..be.. seductive or appealing or…  She’s always thought of herself as more of a cute-type, but maybe that’s why he hasn’t asked her out, or maybe it’s that her shyness doesn’t make her inviting enough, or she just hasn’t been giving him the right signals.  So that’s why she decided to dress like this!
So embarrassingly!
No, it’s not embarrassing!, she scolds herself.  She knows she can look sexy if she tries, but to try to look sexy is just so embarrassing.  No, it’s not embarrassing.
She goes in mental circles, rebuking and reasoning with herself.
Taking a deep breath, she completes the first step.  Shutting down her computer.
Another deep breath and she’s accomplished the second step.  Removing her black blazer.
“Ohhh no.”  His loud groan reverberates against the walls, and she glances up from scrutinizing the satiny pearl camisole she chose to wear.
It’s snowing.  Really, really coming down.  White flurries dancing about in the wind outside the window, illuminated by the glow of yellow streetlights.
The sounds of him packing up are obvious, and with a knot of nerves gripping her gut, she stands, hoping to somehow catch his attention.
She doesn’t even know if he knew she was still here.
He comes around the corner, his stressed gaze immediately falling on her, and by how his eyes widen, she can’t tell if it’s her still being here or if it’s just her, looking like this that caused the obvious surprise.  “...Hinata…”
“Naruto-kun,” she answers, and searching for something to say, she points out the obvious, “it’s snowing.”
“Yeah…”  A quick glance at the window, and his eyes are back on her.  “It is.”
She’s certain he feels, at the very least, a physical attraction.
He closes the distance, coming up to her table, and their difference in height always just does something for her.  “Are you going home, yet?”  His blue gaze passes toward her blazer, laid back on her chair, then over to her computer, decidedly dark.
“Um, well…”  She obviously should, but unfortunately, the direction of this conversation already spells mission failure.
“It’s probably only going to snow more as the night goes on.”
“Yeah…”  She fidgets, searching for some way to prolong their time.  She looks up, daring herself to look him in the eyes, to try to turn on any kind of feminine charm that she has.  “How are you going home?  Are you going to drive?”
“Uh…”  He swallows, blinks, his brows scrunching.  “What, sorry, what did you say?”
Even his obvious distraction is adorable to her, and she smiles to put him at ease, as if she didn’t notice where his eyes were.  She’s just glad at the affirmation that they’re both bumbling messes in front of each other… That might explain a lot, actually.  “Are you going to drive home?  I was thinking of taking a rideshare.”
“Oh…yeah...”
“It’s dangerous to drive home…”  Commencing step three with this sudden onslaught of confidence, she begins taking out the pins from her bun, letting her hair fall loose over her bare shoulders, hoping upon hope that this is enough signals to tell him to ask her out by the end of the night.  “We could take a rideshare...together?”
He’s watching her closely, and again, a pinch appears at his brow.  “...together…”
“Mhmm.”
“...Here…?”
“Yes…?”  She doesn’t understand.  Where else would they get the rideshare.
“Hinata…”
“Mhm?”
“Are you sure?”
She nods with a reassuring smile.  It would save them time after all, unless if they live on completely opposite ends of town.  “Oh, I mean, unless, is it an inconvenience for you?”
“No, of course not, but…”  His hand comes up, and he’s touching her upper arm, something much more intimate than those cutesy head pats.
She’s inwardly cheering.  “I don’t live that far...do you?”
He pauses again, his look growing ever slightly more intense, and she understands this darkened look...and belatedly, her own invitations.
That’s not what she meant.
Heat suffuses her.  She can already tell her cheeks are staining pink, and this is not how she meant the night to end, but…if that’s how he’s taking it,...
She doesn’t mind at all.
His hand is playing up her shoulder, caressing her neck, and she instinctively tilts her head into his palm as he pushes her hair back, and he’s murmuring where he lives, confirming that, yes, she lives much closer, and he’s kissing her.
She sighs into him, her body revealing her desires much sooner than she would have liked, her hands pulling him closer, pulling herself flush against him to deepen their kiss.
The thump of his bag hitting the ground makes her smile against his lips, but she won’t part from him, not when he’s holding her waist, the stroke of his fingers obviously enjoying the silk of her cami.
It’s altogether lewd of her, she knows, but she rubs herself only further up into him, encouraging him to acquaint himself with her body, her senses thrilling as he launches them past propriety.
His hand squeezing her over her pencil skirt.
His arm wrapped securely around her waist.
His hair soft between her fingers.
His body warm and big against her own.
“Naruto-kun…”
“Wait...your place?” he mumbles into her lips.
They shouldn’t do it here.  At work.  Where anyone could catch them.
She’s pushing his jacket open, and he’s shrugging it off, dropping it on the floor quickly before wrapping her up again, and she hums in shivering delight as he trails kisses down her neck, his hands pushing and guiding her hips until she’s sitting back on her desk.  Shamelessly, he swipes his tongue over her cleavage while he drags the straps down until her cami is rolled at her waist, her strapless bra easily following.
“Hahh, Naruto-kun…oh…”  She leans back and arches into his hands and lips, a haze clouding up everything but the growing ache in her core, the moist heat at her womanhood.
He sucks and nips, squeezing and massaging her breasts, steadily positioning himself between her legs, her skirt now hiking up around her hips, too.
His clothed hardness presses right against her arousal, humping into her as they kiss furiously, the friction more maddening for her than he could possibly realize.
She can’t wait any longer.  Pushing him away slightly, he takes the hint right away, already working his belt off.
And that’s when he notices.
Her tights are crotchless.
His jaw visibly drops, his hands on his pants zipper pause.
Heat burns her face, but she spreads her thighs wider and lets him look.
Then suddenly he’s a frenzy of movement, clothes pooled at his feet, lips bruising hers, and his fingers rubbing into her heat, spreading her lower lips apart, a finger tunneling into her the way she wants his cock.  “Fuck, Hinata, you’re naughty.”
“Mmm…”  She wishes she could deny his accusation, explain that she wore it for confidence purposes...but the evidence is all too glaring at the moment.  “Please, Naruto-kun…”
One second she loses his finger, the next, he’s angling himself into her, forcing her to spread around his girth.
“Oh..oh, yes…”  She can feel her moisture slowly coating his member, easing his entrance, the rock of his hips nudging him deeper, closer.
“Hahh, yeah, uh, so,...mm…”  He sinks in, grinding up as he holds her hips down, sending flares of pleasure up to the crown of her head.  His exhale has him drawing out, thrusting in once, a low, throaty groan following that has her whimpering, only further aroused by his vocalized pleasure.
He draws back and folds her skirt up against her stomach, obviously watching himself pulling out, then disappearing back in, her black tights framing their joining bodies.
“Hinata,” he huffs out, and there’s a hint of disbelief and awe there that has her wanting to laugh, if only she had the breath for it.
Because he quickens, ramming harder and harder into her, his dick driving ruthlessly in and out, pushing cut, uneven gasps from her throat.  He creates a senseless, rude rhythm, jerking and grinding her into nothing more than heated breath and body.  Dropping weightily, he shoves his tongue against hers, a singing connection that surges through her, and she’s reaching for him, grabbing for his rounded shoulders.
“This too rough?”  His darkened, lidded gaze, the taste of his lips, the heat of his words.
Shaking her head and kissing him is all she can do in enthusiastic response.
Arms wrap around her, dragging her down from the desk, breaking her out of their dazed kiss, and he mumbles, “Turn around for me.”
Leaning over, she registers her work station, now completely defiled, never to appear the same to her ever again.  Yet these wandering thoughts evaporate with his groping hands on her ass, his manhood piercing back into her easily, splitting her flesh apart.
He’s reaching deeper than before, steadily moving faster and harder into a pace that definitely won’t last.  Strong arms reach beneath her, one hand gripping her breast possessively, and it’s been so long since she’s felt this desired, this free and pleasured.
She reaches down to rub her clit, the extra stimulation almost making her knees buckle.  Sizzling fire burns her toes, up through her clenching sex, zinging along her spine until she’s fighting to keep from shrieking.
“Agh...ugh.....”  His low, chopped moans have her stirring herself up relentlessly, her whole body locking up in suffocating anticipation, senses narrowing to a searing point.
Her whole body trembles in hot, wild ecstasy, clenching and pulling on him in desperate delight.  A breathless scream heats her throat, alighting above the heavy thump of her throbbing pulse.
“Fuck.”  He pulls out just as she’s calming.  She can feel him rubbing into her exposed skin, then his wet tip circling and sloppily kissing about her lower lips.  Hot seed drips down her inner thighs, staining her tights.
In the ensuing quiet of her heartbeat, she looks back with an exhausted smile, appreciative of his consideration.  She’s on birth control, so he needn’t have worried about it, but the thought is still indicative of his character.
Naruto really is a good guy.
He palms his face, quietly panting, his chest visibly rising and falling.  She watches him blink as if he’s waking from a hallucination.  Noticing her gaze, he smiles, too.  “I’ll go get tissues.”
She waits patiently.  A poking part of her self-consciousness is appalled at tonight’s development, but she ignores it as best she can, instead resting her head in her arms.
And when he returns, he actually wipes her up a bit until she straightens before handing her the tissue for her to do the rest.
“Thank you,” she murmurs.  If she didn’t know what to say before, she really doesn’t know what else to say now.
Luckily, Naruto’s strong point is his social abilities.  He’s pulling his pants back on when he breaks the silence.  “Hinata, this is by far the hottest thing that’s ever happened to me.”
She winces and blushes.  “...Me, too.”
He looks up, slightly incredulous.  “Really?”
“I swear I’ve never done this before.”
“But you wear those things all the time.”
“No, I don’t!”  She pulls her skirt down and smooths it out far more aggressively than necessary.  “I, I just wore it today because I wanted to give myself confidence...to approach you.”
He looks really thoughtful as he straightens his clothing out, and she hopes she’s somehow rectified her image.  “So, like, when you have to do a presentation or meet a potential partner or client, you wear that?  For confidence.”
Her jaw drops, and she really wants to say no.
His straight expression morphs into the evilest grin she’s ever seen.  “Good to know, good to know…”
“Naruto-kun!”
His hands fly up in innocent defense.  “I was just asking.”
She hurriedly puts on her blazer, as if by covering herself up into a proper lady, she’ll be able to erase whatever dirty direction his mind is going.
He picks up his own jacket from the floor, redressing, and now it’s like the past ten minutes never happened.
They silently head out to wait for the elevator.
“Sooo…” Naruto starts, “dinner?”
She looks up at him in amazement.
“This,” he gestures back at the office, “wasn’t meant to be a one-time thing or...?”
A smile bursts across her face, so incredibly relieved that he doesn’t just see her as a good lay.  “Oh no, I’d love dinner.  My place?”
“Your place,” he easily agrees.  His hand gently lands around her waist to guide her into the elevator.
----
He was kind and gentle for the rest of the night, their relationship kicking off wonderfully, and it’s as if she could forget she accidentally propositioned him in the office…
She could almost forget…
If he weren’t sticking his hand up her skirts everyday “just to check.”

<< Chapter 3 : Come Follower, Come Friend >>
The next day, the Jackals met for practice. It was still early in the morning, and everyone was yet to fully rise, all except for Hinata, who was already hyped up from riding his bike over to the center whilst the others took the morning train over. “Morning Captain!” He beamed, smiling at the hum of acknowledgement he got, leaving to greet the rest of his teammate-come-friends as he changed into his sports attire. “Mornin’ Shoyo...” Atsumu yawned, the setter used to Shoyo’s seemingly never ending energy. He had expected it to tone down after their first match back in highschool, but he was complaining either; after all, it was mostly because of his incredible stamina that he was able to learn all that he needed to earn the Jackals their many wins.
~~
“We’re practicing receives today.” Meian announced, the tiredness evident in his voice, but he refused to let it drag him down, “After that, I want you guys to divide yourselves so we can play a 4v4.” the middle blocker watched as the rest of the team moved to bring out their basket of volleyballs, adjusting it by the outside of the court before moving to arrange themselves in position. The spikes and receives went smoothly, with only a few misses on Atsumu’s hybrid serve, Meian couldn’t blame them though; if their team could do it easily enough, it wouldn’t be very strong of a weapon on opposing teams.
The spike-receive training went on for a good twenty minutes straight before everyone was called for a break. A near inaudible ‘ding!’ sounded from one of the phones on the bench followed by a quick hum of vibration. “Oh! That’s mine!” Shoyo called out from where he was taking a gulp of his water, heading over and picking up his phone to check his notifications, the small Black Jackal keychain chiming as it jingled from his case. “ Uwaahh! ” He exclaimed, catching the rest of the team’s attention, “Ah! Chibi-chan! What’re you looking at?” Bokuto questioned, surprised by the orange-haired hitter’s sudden outburst. The latter looked up at him with stars in his eyes, body nearly jumping in his spot from excitement.
“Bokuto-san!!” The shorter squealed, unable to hold back his eagerness anymore, hopping up and down on the spot while he tried to show the ex-Ace his phone screen. Koutaro laughed, telling him to slow down, he couldn’t get a proper look at what his friend was trying to show him if he kept jumping like that. When he realised that Shoyo probably wouldn’t sit still long enough, he plucked the phone out of his hands, bringing it closer to his face to try and get a good look at it. His eyes widened owlishly when he took in what his pupil was trying to show him. It was a drawing of them, all of them dressed in their regular gold and black sportswear, - aside from Inunaki, who wore gold and white to signal his position. The art looked so… life-like. It was just like a photograph, but if you looked closely you could see where the paint had seeped under the lineart, spreading onto the textured paper background. Bokuto stared at it, taking it in as he scrolled down to look at the caption on it:
‘Not my best work, but here you all go! Last night was a dream come true.’
“Did you see it??” Hinata spoke from beside him, bouncing as he too tried to take another look at the picture again. The owl felt his jaw drop slightly, nodding before turning to face Shoyo, passing his phone back with a mirrored look of excitement, “That’s amazing Shoyo-kun!” He grinned, ruffling the boy’s hair when he still couldn’t calm down. “Our fans are really talented-” The winged-spiker nodded vigorously, cutting his teammate off, “It’s not just any fan!” at that, Bokuto cocked his head, not understanding what he was hinting at, Shoyo smiled, pulling on his shoulder so he could whisper into his ear.
“Hashi-san drew it!” He whisper-shouted, voice still trembling from the vim.
Now that’s new! Bokuto thought to himself, he could already tell you were a creative person since the two of you met last night, there was just something about you that told him that much. However he never expected you to be this good. “Really??” He watched his pupil nod a-matter-of-factly, “Woah!” He was at a loss for words; he had meant what he said earlier - about their fans being insanely talented - , but the fact that he had actually met you in person last night brought on a whole new sense of wonder to your art. You were so shy when you had first sat down, almost refusing to even touch the armrests of the chair until later on during the night, but you had been a very nice person to all of them, listening to their stories and ramblings, slowly getting more comfortable once you were more used to them.
It made his heart happy.
“I know!” Hinata was in awe too. Although he had seen you holding your sketchbook in hand multiple times, he never would’ve guessed you were drawing them. Sure, it was definitely a shame that you didn't manage to catch all of their moments in their matches since you were busy doodling away, but he was delighted no less to see what you came up with. He enjoyed giving you positive feedback whenever he could, encouraging you to ‘keep doing what you were doing!’ and to ‘keep going!’ when you felt like your artwork wasn’t good enough because hey, everyone needs a pick-me-up from time to time. That was why he followed you in the first place, your work grew on him too, causing him to turn on notifications for when you posted again. It confused him when he took in the differences between your in-person personality as compared to your online personality, but after hearing about how shy you were since the beginning of your and Yachi’s college semesters from Yachi-san herself, he just assumed you were more comforted by the anonymity of having a screen between you and others… After all, you didn’t show your face on the account, only your hands being in some of the shots you took holding your artwork.
“Meian-san said it’s time to start our 4v4!” Atsumu called out to the two hitters, jogging over from the other side of the court, “What’re ya two whisperin’ about over here?” he asked curiously, lips pursing in a small pout as he raised an eyebrow, arms folded across his chest. “Tell you later Tsum-Tsum! Time to practice!” Bokuto stated, instructing Shoyo to put his phone away for later, which the smallest did, switching it off before joining the team on the court. The teams were split, it was Meian, Inunaki, Sakusa and Atsumu against Tomas, Barnes, Shoyo and Bokuto; both sides having a setter, middle blockers, and spikers. Fortunately to the shortest of Bokuto’s team, Inunaki was the only libero, this allowed Hinata to juggle the positions as he pleased, shifting between offence and defence alike.
Meian’s team won. The Captain was awfully smug about it, but the opposing four paid him no mind, thankful that they were all on the same team when the time mattered. They played a couple more sets, not really counting the points this time round, just keeping it lighthearted instead; eventually, everyone - other than Shoyo - grew tired, and another break was called for by Meian. Atsumu sat in between Bokuto and Hinata, still curious as to why they were chatting so secretively earlier that morning, “Well? Ya both gonna tell me what ya both were whisperin’ about earlier?” he asked again, his head on a swivel as he eyed either alternately.
“Ah! Right!” Shoyo exclaimed, suddenly remembering the morning’s events as he whipped out his phone again, keying in the passcode and passing it to the setter. “What’s this?” The blonde questioned, scrolling through the various different artworks of the team, it was really well done, sure, but it’s not like the team didn’t have waterfalls of fanart that were as good, some maybe even better. “Hashi-san drew it!” Bokuto answered, hands balled up in loose fists as he pumped them in the air slightly, ah, so that’s what got them so excited, Atsumu concluded, they aren’t wrong to be happy about it though, she’s really good at drawing. “Yeah? And what made you come to that conclusion Bokkun?” He challenged, it’s not like he didn’t believe you could draw this, the blonde couldn’t doubt your skill like that, he just wanted actual proof that it was yours, and not just a claim.
“My pupil told me!” The spiker replied definitively, looking past the setter to Hinata, who turned to face them at the mention of his name. He nodded, opening his mouth before Atsumu could shoot out another question, “It’s her account ‘Tsumu, I heard about it from Yachi-san! I even saw the account opened on Hashi-san’s phone once.” “Ohohoho~ Looks like we have a little artist then.” Atsumu smirked, thumb still pushing through the various hashtags and captions on your posts. It wasn’t that he wasn’t thrilled to find out about your talents, it was just that he had seen plenty of fanart for the team already, so it wasn’t like yours was anything new, or out of the ordinary. Although … he did suppose knowing you in real life made it somewhat more interesting when going through whatever you created on this account.
Atsumu liked you; you were fun to tease with your obvious reactions, and he was definitely pleased when he noticed you didn’t take it to heart. He thought you were pretty cute too, but he had a nagging feeling there was someone you already had your heart and mind set after. His brown eyes flickered up to Sakusa, who was leaning against the wall on the other end of the building, his hands in his pockets as he spoke with Barnes and Tomas before looking back down at the phone in his hand. Oh well, he smiled to himself, who was he to stop you if you liked Omi-Omi over him? It didn’t seem to him that you didn’t take a liking to him either; although you did appear to be fidgety at first, after a couple drinks and some time, you did indeed warm up to him, even tossing him back a few retorts which he remembered fondly.
Zoning back in, he realised that Shoyo had taken his phone back, putting it somewhere for safe keeping while he and Bokuto bickered away in front of him. “Tsum-Tsum, are you gonna follow her?” The taller asked him suddenly, stopping the argument they had been having prior in favour of observing his reaction. Atsumu juggled this thought for a second, replying with a “Yep, why not.” before jolting in his seat at Bokuto’s sudden shout of ‘AHA-!’ “Jeez, yer gonna rip my eardrums Bokkun!” the setter groaned, sliding open palms against either ear in an attempt to stop the ringing, “Sorry ‘Tsumu! I had a bet ongoing~” the spiker teased, pointing a finger at Shoyo. “It’s not fair!” The crow whined, looking at ‘Tsumu in hopes of him changing his mind; when he saw that it wasn’t the likely outcome, he slumped back into his shared seat on the bench in defeat.
“We had a bet on whether you’d follow her or not, since you didn’t seem very excited about finding out about her account...” He pouted, drawing a laugh from the middle man, “Well, if it makes you happy I could just, not follow her.” he mused, noting Hinata’s head shake in response to that, “No?” “No, you should follow her if that’s what you want to do!” he affirmed, the pout only growing as another laugh bubbled out of the blonde, “Alright, alright, I’ll check her out later tonight, what was her account name again?” he asked, leaning back when Bokuto chimed in, “Me too! Me too! I wanna follow her too!”
~~
You sat at your desk, you had no classes today; it was Sunday and you had the day off. Your work was all finished and up to date too, so you had the freedom to do whatever you wanted to do in your little apartment. The chime of your phone distracted you from your youtube as you picked it up to look at the new notifications:
‘New Follower!’
‘New Follower!’
Oh! Cool! You smiled to yourself, unlocking the device to check who had just followed your fanart account. As you scroll through the list of usernames, your eyes lock onto the two most recent ones, ‘@thebettermiya’ and ‘@bokuto_the_ace’ wait… WHAT. A part of you is in denial as you stare at your phone for an abnormally long time, hands shaking as you begin to take in the reality of the situation, that this might actually be the same accounts belonging to the real Atsumu Miya and Bokuto Koutaro respectively. You check their other social media accounts, matching every single symbol and spelling. It was identical. Screaming internally, you screenshot the two accounts, forwarding them to Hitoka before opening the in-built messaging part of the app.
You haven’t exactly spoken to Shoyo much, but if you really wanted to check the originality of the accounts, who better to ask than him? You type out your question as politely as you can, waiting for either his or Yachi’s response as you flop down onto your bed, screaming into your pillow. Even if you weren’t upset at Hinata for sharing your account, you were heavily embarrassed though. Why did he even bring it up so randomly? What did they say about your drawings? Did they follow the account willingly? Your phone dings again and you swipe through your chats with sweaty fingers from a mixture of shock and overall nervousness. It was from Hitoka-chan, she swore she hadn’t accidentally blabbered to them about it again, and you reassure her, telling her that you have a suspicion that it was Hinata who told them this time round.
The three dots jump in order as Yachi types out her response to your guess. Half of your brain isn’t surprised when she tells you that they had practice today, it only confirms your suspicion even more; the other half of your brain feels like it’s melting. You were honestly surprised that you managed to gain so many new followers over the years, let alone gaining follows from the actual celebrities you make art of. Sure, you took commissions from time to time, but this was a whole other level. You fangirl to her for a few moments before she tells you she’s busy and heads offline, just as you bid her farewell, another notification slides down the top of your phone screen. It’s a reply from Shoyo:
‘Hi Hashi-san! Yup! Those are the real ‘Tsumu and Bokuto-san; I saw your new post when we were at practice this morning and I thought I should share it with them! It looks really good, you even managed to highlight our jump serves!’
Oh, so that explains it , you nod in understanding to yourself as you type back a response:
‘Oh I see! Are they still with you by any chance? If they are, please let them know I’m honoured that they followed me! I hope they like my work.’
The reply comes back almost instantly,
‘They are! They say that it’s no big deal, they really like your work Hashi-san! We ended up telling Meian-san too, I hope you don’t mind…’
‘It’s totally fine Shoyo, I’m so happy you guys like my work!’
You smile too as he sends you back a smile emoticon, they really like my art huh… you still can’t believe it, you knew there were so many other artists that were better than you. It felt like such a privilege to have them compliment you like that. Sorting yourself out, you text Yachi to tell her about what just happened, and then you go and get yourself some early dinner since it was already turning dark outside.
~~
Waiting for everyone to pack up and leave, the Captain jingled the keys in his hand, spinning the ring round and round as he waved everyone goodbye with the other. As Captain, he was entrusted with the set of keys, and thus, he was in charge of locking the place up when everyone had left. Peering inside the gymnasium he noticed Sakusa pacing back and forth as he packed up his things to head home too; although it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for a normal person, for someone who was usually always prepared for most occasions as well as being the first to leave when it was time to do so, it was weirdly out of character.
Meian was worried, things don’t usually get to Sakusa Kiyoomi that badly. He was always known as being the aloof, yet polite mother of the group, always rushing about nagging others like Atsumu-kun about their wild and improper behaviour or lending things such as muscle spray and a packet of tissues to those who were likely to forget, such as Shoyo-kun. Tonight something managed to crack through that tough exterior though; he wasn’t sure what in particular, and he knew prying for more information would probably push him further away from finding out the reason, so the middle blocker did the next best thing. He waited for the Ace to be ready and leave, he needed to lock up anyways, so he could just use that as an excuse to catch the last train home with him instead.
The ravenette was strangely perturbed. He didn’t know why either, ever since he had come home last night, he felt on edge, like somehow he had been missing something. Wiping away the sweat on his forehead from pacing, he headed out of the gymnasium, jerking slightly when Meian popped his head from around the corner of the doorframe. “Whoops, sorry Sakusa-san.” The Captain chuckled awkwardly, getting a quiet nod from the other in reply, the spiker still riddled with foreign emotions and thoughts stamping around so much in his head that he was starting to get a headache. “It’s kinda late,” He noted, meeting Kiyoomi’s tired eyes, “the last train is about to leave soon, we should hurry over before we miss it.” Meian was grateful that Sakusa didn’t try to argue like he usually did, instead nodding again as he adjusted the white surgical mask over his nose and mouth.

High School Crushes
AU: High School Au
Words: 1576
Rating: General
Pairing: Sakura/Lee
Warnings: None
Summary: Sakura and Kakashi are setting up for the LGBTQ+ club when an unexpected guest shows up, and Kakashi’s forced to watch awkward high school flirting.
Completed with help from @cryptic-summons
Counting the chairs that Sakura had set out, Kakashi wondered to himself if it would be enough. Surely there would be more than five people showing up today. Even if he stood, that only left four open chairs for new arrivals.
“You’re thinking too hard about it, Sensei,” Sakura tossed a plastic cup at his head, giggling when he shot a glare towards her. “I triple-checked the signup sheet. The only people coming are Kiba, Naruto, Hinata, Choji, and Tenten. We don’t need any more chairs.”
Four people. Surely that couldn’t be it.
“I feel like I’m forgetting something,” his brain was telling him that there was someone else he should be expecting, but no matter how hard he tried to remember a name wouldn’t come to him. “Oh well, I guess if an extra shows up we can just pull out another chair.”
“An extra!?” Sakura gave him a scandalized look. “Sensei! I bought just enough snacks and drinks for the people who were scheduled to come!”
Oh, right. The snacks and drinks.
Glancing towards the table, Kakashi sighed. There were exactly Six cups, and enough pizza to feed about six people, so Sakura wasn’t lying about having just enough for the people she was expecting.
He certainly had gone and picked the most organized person in his class to lead the LGBTQ+ club. At least he knew for sure that she would always have things under control, even during those days he might not be able to be there to help her with.
Still, his brain refused to let him rest. Trying desperately to remind him of whatever it was he was forgetting.
A sharp knock on the door forced him to forget about his memory struggles and turn to greet whoever it was that had arrived first. As he raised a hand and opened his mouth to say ‘hello’, the answer to his question finally hit him.
There he was, standing at the door.
The person he had forgotten to add to the attendance list so that Sakura could account for his arrival.
Rock Lee.
“Shit.” He muttered under his breath, cringing when Sakura glared at him.
“Language, Sensei,” she scolded him before turning her attention back onto the new arrival. “Hello, Lee-kun. Are you looking for something?”
Lee-Kun? Since when did Sakura refer to any of the other kids with an honorific? Usually, she just called them by their name, or in Naruto’s case there was a fond ‘Baka’ attached to her sentence whenever she mentioned him.
“Well,” burying a hand into his short black hair, he beamed at Sakura. A small hint of a blush painting his cheeks. “I was hoping to take part in the LGBTQ+ club that you were having. I tried to write my name down on the list, but by the time I confirmed with Gai-sensei that Taijutsu practice was on Thursdays now, the sheet was gone.”
Right. Gai had mentioned changing the day of his Taijutsu lessons so that Lee and Tenten could attend the LGBTQ+ club that Kakashi had finally managed to get approval to organize. He even mentioned that Lee was afraid he wouldn’t be welcome to join after missing his chance to add his name to the list that Sakura had put up just outside of Kakashi’s classroom.
Sakura was going to be upset with him for forgetting. She had put so much effort into making sure that everything was perfect for the club so that they could all sit down, share stories, and have a fun relaxing time.
And here Kakashi was, forgetting to inform her that there was actually one more person to expect.
“Oh,” Sakura’s voice cracked, and Kakashi couldn’t help but notice that she had brought her right hand up and started drumming her fingers against her left arm. Almost as if she was embarrassed. “I didn’t realize...Kakashi-Sensei we have another chair, right?”
Usually, he’d complain about being asked such a dumb question, but he was already thinking about all of the ways he could tease the poor kid about this later. He was willing to cut her some slack.
For now.
“I’ll find a chair, you two keep chatting.” with a wave of his hand he turned his back to them and headed towards the closet for an extra chair. Though, if Sakura thought they were getting some sort of ‘alone’ time because he happened to be across the room she was wrong.
They weren’t even bothering to try to keep their voices down.
“I didn’t realize that you would be in charge of the club. Sakura-Chan,” Lee’s voice buzzed with excitement. “What made you want to volunteer?”
“Volunteer,” Sakura huffed, and Kakashi was pretty sure she was throwing a glare his way at that exact moment. Thankfully, he was focused on getting a chair out of the closet without dropping something on himself. How Sakura had done it so easily, he would never know. “Kakashi-Sensei told me that I had to do it. That there was no one else suited for the job as well as me.”
And he stuck by his words.
“Well, I think Kakashi-sensei made the right choice,” He could just imagine Lee doing the signature ‘Maito pose’ that Gai had taught him. It was cringy and horrible and he loved that Gai had passed it down to his student so that future generations would have to suffer seeing it. “You’re the most organized person in our school. Plus you’re easily the friendliest.”
Kakashi snorted.
“What was that, Sensei?”
“Nothing,” turning his head, he smiled at the pair innocently. “I was just clearing my throat. Lots of dust in this closet you know.”
There was no doubt in his mind that Sakura didn’t believe him for a second, but he considered it a small victory when she didn’t press him for a better explanation.
“Well, I hope that I’m able to contribute something to the group tonight,” Lee continued as if Kakashi hadn’t interrupted him. “I’ve never really been part of a group that doesn’t have to do with Taijutsu or Soccer.”
“You’ll be an amazing addition,” Sakura smiled. “Well we wait for everyone else why don’t you have some pizza or a drink? You’re always working so hard so I’m sure you’re hungry.”
Finally wrestling a chair free, Kakashi turned just in time to see Sakura leading Lee towards the table she had set out with snacks.
“I thought you said we didn’t have enough for any extra’s.” he teased, a playful smirk on his face until Sakura smiled back at him with such innocence that he knew only the worst of thoughts could be running through her mind at that moment.
` “You were saying you needed to start a diet anyway, right Sensei?” A diet? What a rude little shit. “I’m sure you’ll be fine if Lee-Kun eats your share of Pizza.”
Great. Now he had to rely on Gai having made something actually edible for dinner after he had told him he would eat Pizza during the club’s get-together. Hopefully, he hadn’t made his signature ‘curry of life’ or Kakashi was going to bed hungry.
“You really are the best, Sakura-Chan,” Lee complimented her again as he picked out his Pizza slices. “Thank you.”
“You know, you should try out a new outfit one of these days, Lee-Kun. I mean, if you want to of course.” Kakashi wished he could disappear when he saw Sakura poke Lee in the side and giggle. This was not the Haruno Sakura he was used to. The girl who always teased him over his relationship with Gai, or had to speak her mind about whatever was happening around her. This Sakura was...timid. It was concerning.
“A new outfit?” Lee blinked, clearly confused by her comment. “But why would I…”
“The green tracksuit is cute, don’t get me wrong,” She corrected herself quickly. “I just think, you know, you’re always wearing the same thing. Wouldn’t it be cool if you tried on a new outfit?”
“A new outfit…” Looking down at his green tracksuit, Lee smiled slowly. “I guess i could try. Then I could just wear this when I’m training in the morning.”
Well, at least Sakura was improving Lee’s sense of fashion.
“I think I have some clothes at home that I haven’t gotten rid of yet. If you want you could come over and try them on. See if there’s anything you want.”
Kakashi felt like he was witnessing the worst attempt at flirting ever. Was this how kids asked each other out these days? Was there really no romance left in the world?
“You do have the best fashion sense,” Lee whispered, a smile slowly appearing on his face. “I think I’d like to take you up on that offer, Sakura-Chan.”
Kakashi was desperate to scream. To demand an explanation for how that worked.
He held his tongue though.
Seeing Sakura smiling proudly and Lee already starting to discuss the type of clothes he liked was well worth having to witness whatever messed up version of flirting it was that the two of them were doing.
“Hey!” Glancing towards the door, he sighed when he saw Tenten walking into the room, followed closely behind by Naruto, Kiba, Hinata, and Choji. Finally, his suffering could end. “Sakura, Lee! I hope the old man hasn’t been bothering you too much.”
Right, never mind. Tenten was here.
The bullying had only just begun.

He can’t be THAT good...
(Hinakamuegi stuffing)
Na.egi Ma.koto frowns as he lets out a sigh. His pudgy stomach surges forward, pushing the zipper of his pants down. He had tried everything, sucking in, laying down, he simply couldn’t get his work pants to button. “...Kamu.kura..?” He calls out hesitantly.
Izu.ru Kamu.kura steps into the doorway almost immediately. His face remains calm and composed, even though Na.egi is flushed red, and looking down in shame. “Uh… can- can you get me some new work clothes…? Mine aren’t fitting anymore…”
Kamu.kura nods and steps into the room, opening a drawer and pulling out a pair of black work pants. “These should fit better,” he states before leaving. Na.egi swallows thickly and peels off the offending pants before pulling the other pair on. They were a little small, but at least they would button. He quickly slips a white work shirt on before grabbing his suit jacket on his way out of the apartment. “Love you!” he shouts before heading out. As soon as the door closes, Kamu.kura ties his hair up and slips an apron on. It was time to start cooking dinner.
Na.egi sighs and plops down in his office chair. He knew he had been gaining weight recently, but Kamu.kura either didn’t notice, or just hadn’t pointed it out yet. He absentmindedly runs a hand over his stomach as he hears a knock at the door. He blushes slightly. “Come in!”
A young intern walks in, holding a stack of files. “Um… Kiri.giri-san asked me to bring these to you, Na.egi-san.”
“Oh, thanks Hin.ata-kun!” Na.egi beams up at the intern. Coincidentally, Na.egi had met his current boyfriend through this coworker, Ha.jime Hin.ata. Hinata had introduced them at a party celebrating Kamu.kura’s big promotion a few months ago.
“Oh… she also wanted me to give you this,” Hin.ata adds, holding out a single sheet of paper. Na.egi frowns, taking it. “It’s a form for a new uniform. She said yours isn’t fitting that well anymore…”
Na.egi flushes and looks down. “It- it’s not my fault…” he mutters weakly. “It’s Kamu.kura, he’s way too good at cooking.” Hin.ata lets out a snort and rolls his eyes.
“Look, that bastard is way too good at most things, but it’s hard to believe he’d actually put that much effort into cooking for anyone. He hates cooking.”
Na.egi pouts and crosses his arms. “Then why don’t you come over some day? So you can see just how much he cooks lately.”
“He must have changed a lot for you to be telling the truth. Oh, I guess I’m mildly interested. When are you guys free?” he asks.
Na.egi pulls out a small pocket calendar from a desk drawer and flips through the pages. “Hmm… looks like we’re both good this Tuesday and Wednesday. Which works better for you?”
“Ah, I have a doctor’s appointment on Tuesday. Let’s do Wednesday,” he says. Na.egi nods excitedly and puts the pocket book back. He couldn’t wait for Hin.ata to find out just how wrong he was.
The rest of the work day is dull, Na.egi flipping through hours of mindless paperwork, signing things, and passing them up to management. He stands up from his desk and blushes as his stomach brushes past the edge of his desk. There had been free donuts and cupcakes in the employee lounge, and he had had way more than he originally thought. He swears internally and hopes that Kamu.kura didn’t have another large dinner planned for him.
----
He was wrong, of course.
After multiple large courses of mouth-watering lasagna, bowls upon bowls of creamy alfredo, and heaping plates of Italian meatballs, Na.egi lets out a quiet whimper and his arms flop to his side. “Kamu.kura… th- these dinners…. I’ve been putting on a lot of weight lately…” he whines.
Kamu.kura frowns and kneels down next to him, rubbing circles on his overfed belly. “Is it upsetting you?” he asks. As always, his face conveys no emotions, no hint of what he was thinking.
Na.egi blushes and sputters, trying to respond, but his mind feels fuzzy. Kamu.kura’s hands kneading his painfully stuffed belly made him feel weak, as he squirmed slightly. He lets out a quiet belch into his fist and looks away. “Everyone in the office just thinks… the- they think I’m doing this myself…”
“You are, are you not? I only provide food for you, but you are the one who stuffs yourself to this capacity.”
Kamu.kura’s words do not help the situation. Na.egi can’t necessarily deny that, even though he sure tries. He can’t justify it even to himself, because Kamu.kura was right and he knew it. He sighs. “Hin.ata-kun doesn’t believe that your cooking is this good… so I told him he could come over for dinner on Wednesday to prove him wrong.”
Kamu.kura pouts, pressing a finger roughly into Na.egi’s stomach. The noise Na.egi lets out makes him stutter and cover his mouth with embarrassment. “Wh- what was that for?”
“I did not give you permission to invite Hin.ata over.”
Na.egi huffs and tries to rub at his own stomach to soothe it. “He- he started talking about the weight I’d gained, and he said I needed a new uniform and I tried to explain that this only happened because of your cooking! But… he didn’t believe me…”
Kamu.kura lets out a quiet chuckle and plants a gentle kiss on Naegi’s neck. “We have been over this. This is not my doing, but yours. You need to start taking responsibility for your own gluttony,” he states monotonously. Na.egi blushes again, looking down. “I… can cancel with him if you want me to… I’m sorry, I should have asked you first.”
“He may come over, but I will need time to prepare dinner for the both of you.”
Na.egi perks up, leaning forward to kiss Kamu.kura in excitement. But his tummy weighs him down, and he flops back into the chair with a small huff.
Kamu.kura gently wraps his arm around Na.egi’s waist and pulls him up, helping him walk down the hallway and into the bedroom. He pulls Na.egi’s work clothes off his grossly overstuffed form, tossing the basically worthless scraps on the floor. He crawls in bed next to his soft lover and pulls a blanket over them both, turning light out.
-----
The days leading up to Hin.ata’s visit were fairly uneventful. Na.egi would wake up, struggle to get dressed, go to work, snack all day, and come home to Kamu.kura’s unfairly good cooking. This continued until Tuesday evening, after work, when Hin.ata walked into Na.egi’s office at the end of his shift. “Hey Na.egi-san. You ready to head out?”
Na.egi presses the power button on his monitor and nods, standing up with a quiet ‘oof’. Damn… he had overdone it today, too. He feels his center of balance shift as he stands, and he rests a hand on his stomach. “Yeah, just let me grab my jacket.”
Hin.ata watches him, silently judging the shorter boy for eating so much at work. He had seen Na.egi sneak into the break room multiple times to bring food to eat mindlessly at his desk. He had seen Na.egi make trips to the vending machine, buying multiple sugary drinks and fattening snacks to stock pile in a drawer. He knew Na.egi was blaming his weight gain on his new partner, Kamu.kura, but seeing how Naegi acts at work, Hin.ata sincerely doubts that.
The two brunettes make their way downstairs to the street to hail a cab together. They both climb in the back of the taxi, and Na.egi leans forward to give the address to the driver. The ride only takes around 10 minutes. Hin.ata passes a couple of dollars to his coworker, who adds his own half, and gives it to the driver. They both thank the driver and step out onto the sidewalk.
Na.egi climbs up the stairs to the apartment and unlocks the door. Hin.ata stands behind him, and is taken aback when the strong aromas of Kamu.kura’s cooking hit him square in the face. Na.egi giggles as he sees Hin.ata stumble forward, not even bothering to take his work jacket off, and sit down at the dining table. Having been subject to this before, Na.egi has enough self control to take his shoes and jacket off before sitting down and filling his plate.
----
He had doubted every word, up until that damn door was opened.
Hin.ata had known Kamu.kura since they were both kids, and they had grown up together. Kamu.kura was apathetic, cold, and didn’t have any motivation to do anything. To hear that his old acquaintance (Hinata wasn’t sure he could call him a friend, exactly) had changed so much as to start cooking this much for Na.egi, for Na.egi to have gained this much weight…
It didn’t make any sense.
He had sincerely doubted it.
He knew he was wrong the second the door opened.
His mouth starts drooling before he even sits down. He sits down at the dining table, grabbing a plate and piling it high with everything in reach. He vaguely registers Na.egi sitting down next to him, grabbing his own plate and filling it with whatever he can.
Hin.ata’s mind is a complete blur. All he can process is the continual flow of food being stuffed down his throat. Tender roast that melts in his mouth, creamy potatoes that slide down his throat, freshly buttered rolls with a perfectly crispy crust. He continues shoveling everything in reach into his gullet, without regard for how quickly he’s filling up. His stomach balloons forward, pushing against the buttons on his shirt. His fork hits the bottom of his plate, and his mind clears for a moment. He lets out a quiet groan and presses a hand against his stomach, trying to comfort it.
“K-Kamu.kura…” he whines, squirming in his seat. Na.egi continues shoving food into his mouth, not hearing Hin.ata. He was already on his third plate. Kamu.kura steps forward, a ghost of a smirk present on his face. “Is there a problem, Hin.ata?”
“It- it hurts… it’s too much…” he moans. Kamu.kura kneels down beside his chair and presses a warm hand against his flesh. Hin.ata’s face flushes and he turns away.
“Then stop,” Kamu.kura says simply. “That’s all you have to do. Don’t fill your plate again, and don’t keep going.”
Even with direct instruction not to, Hin.ata finds himself sitting forward and piling more food onto his plate. Kamu.kura watches with a smirk, continuing to rub circles on his belly. Hin.ata feels and hears his belly gurgle in protest, but he can’t stop his hands from moving.
Na.egi slumps back, groaning, and looks over at Hin.ata and Kamu.kura with bleary eyes. “Is… he alright..?” Na.egi asks between heavy pants. Kamu.kura nods, continuing to rub Hin.ata’s bloated tummy. Hin.ata moans around a particularly large bite of pasta, and he hears a loud ping. He looks down and blushes deeply as he stomach surges forward. He had actually eaten so much that a button had popped off of his shirt.
“Do.. you see what I mean..?” Na.egi asks quietly.
Hin.ata doesn’t have the strength to give a snappy response.

New Neighbor? Where Atsumu and Oikawa try to win your love
thanks for the request :) i hope u enjoy!

Tumblr media
*pretend hinata is you hehe ;)
“(y/n)-chan!! I can’t believe you’re leaving me!!” Oikawa complains as you pack the last few things in your overflowing suitcase.
It was a hot, sunny Saturday afternoon in your home in Miyagi and you found yourself in your room with Oikawa casually laying on your bed.
“Tooru, I’m sorry you know this was not my choice.” You spoke softly, Oikawa sat up and continued his whining
“But still! We’ve been together since we were kids and you’re just gonna abandon me?? After everything we’ve been through!!?” You threw a pillow at the loud mouthed setter.
It was true, when you moved to Miyagi when you were 6 years old, you two hit it off and are still as close as ever today. Your parents had demanding jobs that required them to travel all over Japan leaving you home alone. Your parents were close with Oikawa’s so they trusted to look after you. You were practically raised by them but over time you learned to fend for yourself with a little help from him and his family.
“Quit your screaming! And don’t make it out like we’re dating hmph. You still have Iwa-kun to cling onto. You’ll be alright.” You stood up and clasped his hands with yours. A fire sparked into your eyes as you looked at him.
“Besides, you have to promise me that you’ll go and win nationals. Win the dream with your team!” Oikawa glances at your hands before letting them go and hooking his pinky with your small, dainty ones.
“Mm, you can count on me (y/n)-chan”
You smile brightly and without warning wrap your arms around the brunette’s neck. He pauses before allowing his hands to gather at the small of your back and hugging your waist. As a goodbye, you squeeze him closer and bury your face in the crook of his neck and he digs his face into your shoulder. Your breath hitched in your throat as you swear you felt him press a kiss on your neck, but you didn’t mention it. You two just savored the moment and each others warmth as it was probably going to be the last time you two would be in each others presence for awhile. Probably.
-
It has been two months since your family made the move to Hyogo, your parents as expected were not home as usual and at first it was hard for you to adapt without the presence of your parents and your childhood best friend who you texted every single day.
“heyo tooru!”
“(y/n)-chan! i miss you ʕ•́ᴥ•̀ʔっ do you miss mee~?”
“yah wish idiot, i’m just checkin up on yah”
“YABBEI!! ୧(๑•̀ᗝ•́)૭ you already have the kansai accent noo!!”
“shut up! i adapt! and fyi i do not talk like this irl”
“okok whateverrr, how’s inarizaki?”
With your high grades and excelling in academics you were able to transfer into Inarizaki high with no problem. You did not have any friends though, you did not really fit in or belong to certain cliques at the school.
“it’s been alright, kinda prestigious though and ppl have egos but nothing i can’t handle. def better than dealing with you hehe~”
“im hurt (y/n)-chan! but that’s good, watch out for their volleyball team they’re pretty strong (ง’-‘︠)ง“
You raised an eyebrow as you realized that your new school did indeed have a volleyball team. You’ve heard about them quite a lot as they are supposedly really good, placing at nationals consecutively. You made a mental note to yourself to look further into it whenever you cared too and you bid Oikawa a quick goodbye text. You remembered an important package was waiting outside so you slipped on some shoes and ran out to get it.
Upon approaching your mailbox, you notice two guys walking towards your direction and you glance up at them. One blonde-haired guy rambling to an uninterested sliver-haired who was practically an exact replica to him. Twins? You thought to yourself as you took a double-take.
Despite their similarities in looks, your attention gravitated towards the blond twin. Just the way his soft looking locks parted to the right over his hooded, dark eyes you could lost in. His overall energy was one that interested you. He felt your lingering gaze on him and made eye contact with you and smirked.
You blushed lightly and hurriedly grabbed your package. You rushed since you were just wearing short shorts and a crop top. Avoiding any interactions with the pair, you walk away and miss the eyes of the blonde twin looking up and down at your body.
Slamming your door shut, back against it you let out a sigh of relief and peek out the window to see the twins walk into the house right next door to you. The blush on your face still burned slightly, your curiosity heightens
“New neighbors? How interesting”
-
School has ended, yet you found yourself aimlessly walking the now empty halls of Inarizaki. You wanted to avoid going home, as you did not want to be spending anymore time in an empty household and without your best friend you missed dearly.
Your aimless wandering has led you to the volleyball gym, curiosity killed the cat and you found yourself entering the gym and stepping up at the balcony to watch practice from afar. Your eyes immediately went to the golden yellow haired guy who was apparently also your neighbor.
He sets to his teammate effortlessly and you couldn’t help but watch with amazement of his moves and how he brought out the best in the spiker. His technique was similar to Tooru’s, just a bit different. It was like his own twist. You always watched Tooru play with awe, however this guy’s setting just hit differently within you.
You stared for a bit too long, as said setter looks up the balcony to see your form. The fangirls nearby you screech for his attention, only for him to send you a smirk and you blush profusely and immediately break the eye contact once again.
Eventually, you found yourself coming back to the same gym at the same time everyday for the week. You went because of how much the players practiced and played flawlessly, but secretly because you wanted to watch the blonde setter in action of course. And since you were not enrolled in any clubs you killed time after school on that very balcony.
Blonde twin has noticed you at every practice, every now and then he would nod towards you and/or throw a lopsided smile to you that made your heart jump lightly.
It was the end of practice and you were about to walk out of the empty gym until you felt a hand grab your wrist, pulling you back.
“Wait!”
You gasp slightly upon seeing the blonde setter. A little too close for comfort. A tint of pink dusted your cheeks as you gulped and stared into his eyes.
“Miya Atsumu, who are you?”
-
“TOOOORUUU YOU WONT BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED” You jumped into bed and called your childhood best friend with no warning.
“E-eh?? (y/n)-chan are you okay?? Are you finally coming back to mee????”
“NO SILLY! okay hear me out for a moment”
You rambled on and on about your interaction with the setter, a hint of excitement in your tone that goes unnoticed by Oikawa.
“(y/n)-chan, you do know that Miya Atsumu is one of the best setters in Japan right?”
You immediately shut up, mouth open slightly and you noticed Oikawa’s sudden drop in mood.
“A-ah, I did not know that, sorry..” You rubbed your arm out of nervousness as the line went silent for an uncomfortable amount of time.
“You.. you still support me though right (y/n)-chan?”
“Of course Tooru!”
“You promise?”
“Yeah, of course. I believe in you”
-
Over the next few weeks, you and Atsumu have been interacting a lot more than others would’ve expected. You two slowly got closer to each other, exchanged numbers, walking in the halls together, eating lunch together, even during passing time he would come visit you in your class. Rumors erupted here and there but you would ignore them, all you cared about was the fact that you were getting close to the handsome setter and you couldn’t help but feel a weird sensation in your chest whenever you were around him.
Being neighbors, you two sometimes catch each other walking by the window and laugh at how both of you were caught off guard. He would even text you about it.
“you looked pretty cute there (n/n)-chan~”
Your heart flutters and you giggle replying back. Then you two would text the whole night away.
One night, you were on the phone with Oikawa as usual updating each other about your lives.
“And then! You won’t believe it (y/n)-chan, Iwa-chan then threw the volleyball! At the back of my head!! How embarrassing uwaaah”
You giggled cutely, “But I do believe it!” Oikawa just grumbles on the other side of the line and you continue to laugh. A text message then pops up from Atsumu, wishing you a goodnight. You subconsciously smile and were reminded that you should probably tell your best friend of the recent closeness.
“Ne Tooru, I have somethings to update you about Atsumu.” It was absolutely silence on the other side, you worried slightly but took it as a sign to continue.
You ranted on about the progression of your friendship with Atsumu, almost in a dreamy tone. You finished and were met with silence which worried you even further.
“Toor-”
“We have a match with Karasuno tomorrow.” You were caught off guard with the sudden subject change.
“E-eh? That’s Kageyama-san’s team right? And you should be sleeping then!”
“Yeah, that guy drives me mad. But we’ll be fine, we will win” Oikawa says. You admired whenever Oikawa was passionate and serious about his dreams.
“Of course, I wish you luck! I’ll watch you guys from home.”
“Thank you~ Sweet (y/n)-chan” You laugh and cringed at him, but his tone went serious unexpectedly once again.
“Ne (y/n)-chan I have a question for you.”
“I’m all ears Tooru.”
“Do you have feelings for Atsumu?”
Your breath got caught in your throat. Feelings?
“I- uhm. I think it’s too early to have feelings like that, right Tooru?”
“Mmm.”
On the other side of the line, Oikawa frowns.
-
They lost
They lost against Karasuno
You sat on your coach, tears forming as your hands cupped your mouth in shock.
They can’t go to nationals
You watched painfully as you saw the cameras zoom in on the victors of Karasuno and cuts to Oikawa’s face of disbelief alongside the team members’ similar reaction and a few crying faces. Tears were as of now flowing down your face.
Tooru’s dream
You spent the next few days constantly calling and texting your best friend to check on him and remind him he did his best. He barely replied back, answering with blunt and passive answers that worried you to the core. Oh what would you give to take a train to Miyagi and comfort him.
You heard a knock at your door, ears perked up and you walk over to answer.
“A-atsumu??” You were shocked at the sudden appearance of him at your front door.
“What’re you doing here??” He leans against the doorway, hands in his pockets. His casual attire being fitted black joggers, a green hoodie and a nice jacket over. You couldn’t help but stare.
“Am I not allowed to visit yah (n/n)-chan. And it is rude to stare yanno. Not even allowing a guest in?” He smirks as you fumble with your words and let him in your home.
“I was just making lunch, w-would you like to join me?” He smiles attractively as he takes off his coat and hangs it up.
“Don’t mind if I do.”
The afternoon was spent with you cooking lunch for the two of you, jokes cracked up and you both laughed and bonded.
“What do yah mean? You never saw the movie??” You giggled.
“Hah, you expect me to be going out all the time? I’m the loner here.”
“Nope nope, not with me around. I am taking you out to see this movie right now.” He grabs your wrist and drags you towards your room. Your heart did a thing.
“Go get ready.” You blushed red questioned frantically what was happening.
“W-what? What do you mean? Where are we going? WHat??” Atsumu waves his hands.
“Don’tcha worry about it doll. I’ll pay for your ticket, and it’ll only be the movies. Yah parents aren’t even home and I’ll bring yah back home in one piece.”
With further convincing you sigh and agreed to his offer. As you slipped on a casual, fitting dress along with a bit of touching up of your hair and makeup your mind wanders to Oikawa. You still worried about him.
“I hope he’s doing okay..” You mumble to no one in particular.
“Hope whose doin okay?” You jump at Atsumu’s sudden intrusion in your bedroom.
“N-nothing! Well I’m ready now so let’s go.” Before heading out, Atsumu blocks your path and checked you out real quick.
“Wow~ You look gorgeous (n/n)-chan” You blushed heavily and ushered him out of your room and the house.
-
You two arrive at the train station, making light conversation where Atsumu would drop compliments every now and then that would make you redder than a tomato.
Casually strolling side by side, your shoulders bumping into each other. You stop in your tracks as Atsumu does the same, your eyes widening at the sight of Oikawa.
“T-tooru!”
“…(y/n)-chan”
Atsumu raises an eyebrow.
“W-what are you doing here Tooru? Are you okay??”
“I simply just needed to see you… I missed you but I see that I am interrupting something?”
Your eyes widened, you wanted to run into Tooru’s arms but Atsumu was right beside you..
Conflicted
“Well well well, if it ain’t pretty setter Oikawa. How did that game the other day go?” Atsumu says in a taunting manner, you backhanded Atsumu’s chest lightly scolding him. However, Astumu continues
“I think you should let her go lover boy, she’s mine.” Atsumu wraps and arm around your shoulder. You gasped as Oikawa ticks at that.
“You barely know her, don’t even think about touching her!” Oikawa growls out.
“G-guys please stop!” You felt so conflicted with your feelings. You did recently felt interested in Atsumu. On the other hand, you constantly missed and cared for Tooru.
“She obviously likes me over you boy, I dunno your problem but I will be taking my lady out if yah don’t mind.”
“To hell! (y/n)-chan’s been mine.” Oikawa grabs your wrist and pulls you towards him.
“(y/n), what are you doing out with him? Is this a date? Do you actually like him more than me?”
You flustered up at Oikawa’s words.
“No! W-well it may seem like a date, but we’re just out watching movies together alone! W-wait that sounds like a date oh my goodness. I don’t even know anymore ugh-”
You felt so overwhelmed to the point you could not help but break your grasp from Oikawa and run from the two.
“(n/n)-chan!”
“(y/n)!”
You kept running, ignoring their calls.
What were you going to do?
Who were you going to choose?
You did not know anymore
-
a/n: heyhey sorry if that turned out bad ;; i am conflicted on how to end this short headcanon so I was thinking of writing something with both endings where you either choose Oikawa or Atsumu. Only if you guys want so please let me know! And also at that last interaction I made Oikawa seem more serious since I imagine he would still be affected by losing ofc poor boi. Sorry if that seemed too ooc for Oikawa. N e ways, thank you guys sm for the support and reading my writing. PLs let me know if you would like that part two! ily :)

The Stars in the Early Morning Sky
Read here on Ao3
Read more of my works here
The wind was cold against Shouyou’s cheeks as he rode on his bike quickly down the mountain to Karasuno High School. It almost hurt as the chill forcefully brushed against his face, sharp and with the type of sting that only the cold could do. His sports bag and backpack was growing heavier on his back with the tiredness that was fluidly coursing through his body. He had been up into the early hours of the morning thinking. Thinking about hands that were usually rough and forceful that would turn soft and gentle against his face, trailing down to his neck and settling themselves on the gentle curves of his hips. Thinking of deep blue eyes that would go from angry to fond to filled with need and--
Shouyou’s cheeks flamed red for a reason other than the chill of the early morning and he shook his head rapidly, training his eyes directly ahead. He squeezed the handlebars of his bike, trying to ground himself before he flew into orbit out of embarrassment. He bit the inside of his cheek.
‘You’ve had this crush for months! You should have a better handle on it by now!’ He scolded himself in his head, stopping at the stop sign that signaled five more minutes till he arrived at the school. After checking both ways for cars and seeing none, he continued on his way. Shouyou knew that he was preaching to the choir when he said that to himself; he wasn’t going to just stop with the thoughts. Even worse, the longer Shouyou had the crush (he would not admit that it was probably more than just a crush at this point) the worse he got at holding the lovey-dovey thoughts at bay. Lovey-dovey thoughts about Kageyama no less. His rival and his best friend. Who, Shouyou admitted, was probably straight and had no qualms about dropping Shouyou as soon as he found out what a creep he was.
Sighing, Shouyou watched the puff of steam that he exuded from his mouth dissipate into thin air as he tried to get a grip on himself. He tried not to pity himself or his… situation when it came to Kageyama. There were plenty of people who fell in love with their best friends and it was never reciprocated. And Shouyou knew that him and Kageyama would fall into that category point blank. No matter how much Shouyou wanted it to be true, Kageyama just wasn’t going to love Shouyou like he loved him. That was okay, the redhead tried to tell himself every time the thought came up, he would be satisfied with Kageyama just being his friend and loving him platonically.
(He wouldn’t be satisfied.)
Rounding the final corner before he came upon Karasuno, Shouyou slowed down and hopped off his bike, putting it in the bike rack and shifting the bags on his shoulders to be more comfortable. His sneakers weren’t warding off the cold very well, so his feet and legs were cold.
‘Hopefully they’ll have the heat fixed in the gym today’, he mused as he looked up at the sky, watching the clouds grazing gently with the harsh wind. He jogged to the clubroom, trying to warm himself up before he got into the gym so his joints wouldn’t be stiff for practice. He was surprised to see Kageyama already there, obviously waiting for someone to unlock the door.
(Shouyou tried not to jump off the walls with the warmth that filled his heart at the prospect of Kageyama knowing that Shouyou would be the one who opened the door for him since he was the one entrusted with the key-- waiting on him.)
Shouyou sped up his jog pace, Kageyama hearing the light pounding of his feet and looking up. His expression didn’t change dramatically, like turning from his resting frown into a smile or anything, but Shouyou thought that his eyes may have softened. But it was hard to tell in the faint light of the early morning with the sun just barely peeking over the horizon, even from the top of the mountain when Shouyou had biked there. The redhead gave the other serious teen a bright smile and Kageyama grunted in response.
“How long were you waiting here?” Shouyou asked as he hopped into Kageyama’s space to unlock the door to the clubroom. The taller teen shrugged, shifting his gym bag on his shoulder, his eyes averted. Shouyou bit the inside of his cheek, hands shaking from the cold.
“You could’ve texted me if you wanted to be here earlier, you know I’d respond!” The redhead scolded lightly as the door clicked open. “I don’t want m-- Karasuno’s-- setter to catch a cold for a stupid reason.” Shouyou internally begged that Kageyama didn’t notice the almost slip-up. Thankfully, Kageyama was as clueless as usual and he just shrugged again, which was infuriating in its own right.
“Don’t just shrug at me,” Shouyou narrowed his eyes and Kageyama just shoved past the short redhead, just to start stripping off his layers-- which, wow. Shouyou was not strong enough for this. Heat rushed to his cheeks and he quickly slammed the door shut.
“I hadn’t even closed the door yet, Pervy-yama! What if someone saw you stripping?” Kageyama raised a singular dark brow and tilted his head towards the electronic clock hanging on the wall.
“At five-thirty in the morning?” His blunt voice asked with a hint of smugness and Shouyou just scowled in return. He went over to Kageyama and flicked his (thankfully clothed) chest.
“Don’t be such an asshole,” the redhead chastised. “How you get so many girls confessing and talking to and about you is beyond me when you’re such a douche.” Shouyou rolled his eyes. ‘Yes I know I’m a hypocrite, universe. Don’t point it out.’ The first year shrugged off his sweatshirt and pulled out his practice t-shirt and jersey. As he put them on, Shouyou heard a muffled response due to his head being trapped in the confines of his shirt. He quickly pulled the shirt over his head and gave Kageyama a questioning look.
“What’d you say?” He questioned and Kageyama mumbled it so quietly that the short redhead couldn’t hear it. Shouyou narrowed his brown eyes at the taller teen.
“What? You’ve gotta say it louder--”
“I said, I don’t know why girls confess to me, either,” Kageyama growled and Shouyou’s shoulders went slack, as did his jaw slightly in disbelief. Kageyama seemed to take that as a sign to continue, and continue he did.
“Fuck. Look, I know I’m an asshole and that I’m selfish. That I don’t… read situations right and that I’m too intense--” Kageyama was forcefully stopped when Shouyou slapped his shoulder. His eyes were intense and Kageyama gulped, almost not enough to be noticeable but Shouyou saw it and powered on.
“Kageyama-kun,” he started, his voice careful but demanding, “what the hell are you on?” Kageyama blinked and opened his mouth to respond but Shouyou just shook his head. The redhead was now fired up and just teeny bit pissed off that his crush didn’t see how fucking attractive he was. He took a deep breath and looked up into deep blue eyes that were growing more and more pronounced as his cheeks turned a rosy red color.
“You are an asshole. And an idiot.” Shouyou stated simply and Kageyama’s eyes narrowed, his frown taking over full-force.
“Are you trying to make me feel bad--”
“No, you dumbass. I’m saying that yes, you are an asshole. But you’re an attractive asshole!” Kageyama’s eyes widened, but Shouyou soldiered on.
“Wait--”
“You are the stupidest, dumbest, dorkiest, hottest boy I know! You’re so… tall and you’ve got that assholeish persona but you’re actually a freaking nerd! You garden.” Shouyou stressed, waving his arms around as he did so. Kageyama’s face was turning more and more red the longer the redhead went on. ‘What am I doing? This is…’ Shouyou ignored the thought, continuing his tirade without pause.
“Wait Hinata--”
“And! You are so…” Shouyou came up at a loss for words, so he just extended his arms out. “You are just so gwah! You make me feel so gwahh and--” Shouyou was silenced with a hand over his mouth. He looked up into the dark blue eyes of the other teen and realized what he had said. Shouyou did the only thing he could think of.
“The hell? Did you just lick me?” Kageyama lifted his hand off of the other’s mouth and Shouyou took the chance to make a break for it.
“Oh no you don’t,” Kageyama grabbed his wrist, effectively stopping the teen from escaping with what little dignity he had left. Shouyou struggled in it uselessly. He couldn’t help thinking that his hands were warm against his skin, almost burning him where the other touched his arm. He hated the feeling. He wanted more.
“Let me go, dumbass!” Shouyou shouted and Kageyama retaliated by strengthening his grip. He then grabbed the redhead’s other arm and made Shouyou turn towards him, which the shorter teen both loved and hated.
“Please don’t kill me.” He begged when he saw just how pissed Kageyama was when he was forcefully faced toward him. He struggled against the grip for a minute, but stopped once he realized how useless it was.
‘Here lies Hinata Shouyou, killed by his crush after confessing.’ Shouyou thought morbidly. He was taken out of his thoughts by a low voice that he couldn’t crave enough of.
“What do you mean I make you feel all ‘gwah’?” Kageyama asked carefully and Shouyou blinked. That wasn’t quite what he had been expecting. Shouyou pursed his lips, thinking about what he was going to say with trepidation.
‘It’s not like he doesn’t already know… Here goes nothing.’
“It means I like you,” he said. “Dumbass.” He added for good measure. ‘Like’ wasn’t exactly the word Shouyou would use to describe how he felt, but he wasn’t ready to admit that to himself, never mind Kageyama. Shouyou licked his lips, nervousness filling every corner of his body.
The other teen’s face went through a bunch of expressions that Shouyou couldn’t even begin to decipher. He looked constipated for most of them, but that didn’t mean much. He always looked like he was constipated when there were emotions involved. The thought brought some familiarity to the situation.
“You…” Kageyama trailed off, his grip never slackening. “You… like me?” He sounded breathless. Shouyou nodded, not daring to open his mouth, not with how much he had let loose today. He waited for what Kageyama was going to say next.
“You mean that I’ve been worrying about this for nothing?!” Kageyama suddenly roared and Shouyou had barely the wits to respond.
“What-- mmph!”
Warm and chapped lips were suddenly against his own. They were rough but somehow tentative and caring as the kiss deepened. Shouyou's eyes finally slid shut and he wrapped his arms around Kageyama’s middle, drinking in the warmth of the boy next to him. The kiss wasn’t good in the traditional sense; their teeth clacked together sometimes and it was much wetter than it needed to be, but Kageyama tasted like milk and mint toothpaste and it was kind of grossly perfect.
Eventually, they had to break the kiss up, both of them bereft of breath and gasping for air. Shouyou still felt the ghost of Kageyama’s passion on his lips.
After a few moments of silence besides their raspy breaths, Shouyou cleared his throat and slid his hands into Kageyama’s.
“I’m assuming you like me too?” He asked and Kageyama scoffed, his cheeks flushed a bright cherry red. His hands were as clammy as Shouyou’s, which made the redhead feel better about all of the events that had happened.
“If you don’t get it, you’re the dumbass.” Kageyama rumbled out lowly and Shouyou just smiled sunnily. He stood on his tiptoes and kissed Kageyama’s blushing cheeks.
“I think I get it.” Shouyou said softly and somehow, even in the ugly fluorescent lights, Kageyama was beautiful. With his cheeks colored red and his eyes fond, it was everything Shouyou had wanted and more.

A song fic(?) of Unique Salongga's 'Sino' (that shit is so good)
Warning:
-typographical and grammatical mistakes and my lack of vocabulary.
-also, m!reader is described with characteristics that are common for (East) Asian boys.
-mention of blood and suggestive words indicating of sick!y/n
Tumblr media
Who would've thought I would love you?
Kageyama stared longingly at the court. This shocked everyone-no, shock is an understatement. Astonished? Baffled? They were surprised to see him voluntarily ask for a water break, a request that is most certainly out of his character as he has always been loyal to volleyball training.
As much as Kageyama despised being off the court, he needed to. For he couldn't collect his self altogether. Despite his collectiveness, his certainty as his fingers passed the ball to the team, he couldn't help but to have a slight resist everytime.
"Sensei, I'm here on behalf of the student council."
He looked to his right, only to see him. He didn't even bother to give Kageyama a side glance as his entire attention is alloted for the club's teacher.
It didn't bother Kageyama. Instead, he took this as an opportunity to freely wander his eyes on him.
He was free to stare at his drowsy brown eyes, his lips that are in a straight line, his neatly cropped hair that covered up to his brows.
He probably should thank the sport for training his eyes to be wary as possible because even the way his black uniform hung loosely at his unathletic body did not escape Kageyama's vision.
He glanced at Kageyama.
Kageyama had to look away and suddenly, he is reminded by his brain of the very first encounter he had with him.
Kageyama grunted as he scrubbed the green board with full force, channeling his hate on the inanimate object as the fact that Hinata gets to go to the gym earlier than him irritates his skin.
God, who invented cleaning duties?
Kageyama's self hate is disrupted as he heard the sliding door screech. Surprised, he looks at the door, only to find an oddly familiar lad who share the same uniform as him.
"Kageyama-kun," the way Kageyama's name sounded with his flat voice made Kageyama's insides upset, "Hello."
Kageyama did not react but he only stared. Unvoiced curiosity escaping from his eyes instead. Who is he? Why does he know my name? The back of his mind asked.
His questions remained unanswered. Instead, this unfamiliar yet familiar guy walked his way towards the the lockers at the back, pulling a worn-out mop.
"I'm a cleaner, too," he said this in a voice with no intonation, as if he's only speaking for the sake of respect.
Kageyama, despite his thoughts, nodded. Looking back at the board again and this time, his scrub lighter than before, suddenly growing conscious knowing that he shares the room with someone else.
He's used to silence. Kageyama's not much of a talker himself. And yet he found the silence between him and the other deafening and nerve-wracking. The back of his mind played a couple of conversation starters that he knew he can use. But then, he lacked the courage-
"Oh."
"Oh."
The two lads jumped in surprise as their backs hit one another. Kageyama abruptly looked at his back and so did the latter, both surprised as they see the other staring at them.
"I'm sorry," Kageyama apologized with his usual gravelly voice.
"It's alright," the other replied, slightly chuckling this time, rendering Kageyama surprised as this person's dull look dissolved into a forced smile.
Kageyama glanced into his pin attached on his left chest.
It shows '(L/N)(Y/N)', written in legible Nihonggo characters.
Tumblr media
Who will confess their feelings?
As much as Kageyama wanted to revolve his entire life at volleyball, the harsh reality forbids him to do so.
Kageyama blankly stared at his paper, the ballpoint of his pen stucked on the first line where he has already written his name but as if he is on court, his thoughts are blocked. Not giving him the ability to write his reaction paper from the film they just watched.
"Kageyama-kun."
Kageyama awkwardly sat straight. His hands slightly raising his paper as he looked up only to see (L/N)-kun staring at him. This realization made him feel odd. His stomach churning the same way he did when he first met (L/N)-kun. His ears feeling hot despite of the blasting aircon across the library's domain.
"May I sit here?" He asked in a voice that sounded unbothered, a fact that Kageyama is in awe. How could he remain so composed at the moment?
Was he the only one who is feeling this way? Are you saying that (L/N)-kun isn't feeling his stomach upset the same way his is? His hands aren't sweating? His breath isn't hitching? Kageyama needed answers.
His thoughts were put into a halt when (L/N)-kun looked up to him, catching him off guard. He wanted to apologize over nothing but he had his tongue tide.
"You weren't watching, were you?" (L/N)-kun asked, his body slightly leaning on the table, allowing Kageyama to see a portion of his collar bones with his uniform's upper buttons unbuttoned. He swallowed what was stuck on his throat.
"The what?"
"The film. You weren't watching the film?"
"I wasn't."
(L/N)-kun sported a soft smile, a smile that got Kageyama choking on his own breath once again, making him softly gasp in awe.
"I wasn't, too," (L/N)-kun confessed.
Tumblr media
Why don't I know why? It always comes to me. Though sometimes I am not enough.
Kageyama needed no one.
Kageyama did not need his superiors' words, he did not need Hinata's comforting words. He did not need the managers', the coach's comfort.
He needed no one. He's always been alone and he's fine alone.
He stopped on his tracks as he sees (L/N) on the doorstep of his classroom. Both of them froze as they are held captive with one another's eyes.
Kageyama frowned, feeling his stomach upset again. The odd feeling climbing its way towards his throat. His lips aggressively shaking as he tried to restrain himself from screaming 'help me' at (L/N)-kun.
He needed no one so why is he desperately seeking for (L/N)-kun's words?
"Kageyama-kun? Are you alright?" His flat voice asked in a tone slightly higher than the usual. Was this his attempt on being empathic? Was he reaching out?
Kageyama gulped everything at once. His eyes fluttering as he nodded curtly, "I am."
Though it felt like it wasn't enough.
I will continue to find love. The meaning of love.
Upset. Kageyama's upset.
A failure. He is a failure. A failure for not being enough. If he were more competent, more skilfull, more talented, he would've won. He would've defeated his former senior's team.
And yet he wasn't and this frustrates him. Days have passed and yet his frustration still lingers inside him, casually clenching his fist and chewing his lips until they turned white and his lips bled. A harsh punishment his judgment has given him-
"Here."
A striking pain touched his forearm. Cold. He trails his eyes towards his arm only to see a cold drink resting on top of it. His eyes followed where the drink came from and it led him to the sight of (L/N)-kun, looking down at him.
He wanted to ask why and what it was for but (L/N)-kun pressed the drink harder onto his skin, urging him to take it in which he did.
(L/N)-kun walked beside him and sat on the cold floor as well. Both of them leaned on the school's walls as the sound of the vending machine vibrated at the side.
Kageyama pierced the straw towards his drink. He takes a sip and is temporarily relieved with the taste of yogurt on his tongue. He glances at (L/N)-kun who only stared at the empty hallway.
"Where's Hinata?" (L/N)-kun asked as your familiar companion is nowhere to be found.
And will be alone forever.
Tumblr media
Who is worthy of my love? Who should I set as my priority?
Kageyama tightened his grip on his shoe bag as he strode his way towards the doorway. The halls are empty given that it's already four in the afternoon. The sky painted orange as it is adorned with fleeting birds and gentle clouds.
Kageyama froze as he saw a familiar figure not too far away from him. A little glance and he immediately knew who it was who's shamelessly sitting on the hallway in a very odd position.
"(L/N)-kun," Kageyama muttered as he walked towards him, (L/N)-kun jolting with the mention of his last name. Though this wasn't enough to make him look at his back. Instead, this made him eager to hide his face more, only allowing Kageyama a flash of his shaking back.
"(L/N)-kun, are-"
"Kageyama-kun..." (L/N) looked up, allowing Kageyama a sight of his face which immediately made his color fade away.
"Are you alright?" Kageyama couldn't help but to crouch as he see what seems to be blood dripping from (L/N)'s nose.
(L/N) chuckled, slightly shoving Kageyama's tough arms, "Yes."
"You're off to practice?" He said in a dismissive tone, the back of his palms covering his nose. A futile attempt as Kageyama’s stares are entirely locked at the red liquid now lingering at his upper lip.
“Yes. Are you-”
“You should go now, it’s almost four-thirty,” (L/N)-kun cut him off, a subtle hint that he didn’t want Kageyama to pry. A hint that Kageyama was not able to take.
“But-”
(L/N) looks up. His eyes weaker than they usually appear on Kageyama’s eyes. A ghost of smile on his lips as he shook his head slightly.
“Just go.” (L/N)-kun said softly.
Tumblr media
I will continue to find
A ghost of smile lingered on Kageyama’s lips as his ears are drowned by Hinata and some of his seniors’ overflowing joy as they took off from the team’s rented bus, each of them proudly wearing their raven black jacket, a mark that indicates they are a member of the volleyball team.
Flood of praises welcomed Kageyama the moment he stepped in on his classroom. His classmates proud and overjoyed as Kageyama, an official member of the volleyball club, recently won a match against another team, their ticket towards the nationals.
The meaning of love
“Kageyama-kun.”
Kageyama’s eyes wandered at the sea of crowd and it landed to where (L/N)-kun stood. (L/N) once again plastered a melancholic look. His eyes drowsy-looking as a small smile crept onto his lips.
“Your team won, right?” he mumbled as he walked his way towards the crowd, blending with his classmates. If it weren’t for Kageyama’s eyes that were stuck on him, he wouldn’t be able to notice him. But he did.
“Yes,” Kageyama said, eyes strained along with his brows. His lips in a line as he was trying to stop from smirking.
(L/N)-kun nodded, “Congratulations.”
And will be alone forever.

Title: Silent Courtroom
Author: @redakara
For: @asktheshadowprince
Pairings/Characters: Hinata/Komaeda, mentioned Nanami
Rating/Warnings: Teen/No warnings
Prompt: Amnesia
Author’s notes: Not gone, only forgotten.
The building wasn’t quite moving, rather shifting, half-formed and transparent, completely white like the sky with hot pink outlining where walls should be. The outlining, too, glitched away and reappeared, the verticals and horizontals slowly stretching and receding in a form that loosely resembled a building. A completely uninteresting rectangle with similarly shifting outlines that were some forms of walls, furniture, and pillars.
Geometrical shapes floated innocently throughout it all, as if they were attempting to convince him that the content of this strange place didn’t defy logic’s dictating hands, that it made completely sense for buildings to shift in such a strange manner. Still, logic clung onto him like a leech and boldly insisted that everything here wasn’t right. Maintaining some degree of lucidity, just enough to recognize that this was a strange existence, he watched the nonsensical chaos continue as if it was supposed to happen. He clutched his skateboard.
Even so, the acknowledgement wasn’t enough to pull him out of the irregularity that was this half-dream, half-awake world where he watched the scorchingly bright white cityscape form and deform on repeat, looping until he memorized the patterns and anticipated each movement. How utterly boring.
What he didn’t expect was the complete halt.
The building’s outlines stopped stretching to touch each and make ends meet, the carefree polygons ceased in midair, and the rectangular building attained a new hue- brick red, the glue between the cracked bricks nearly tangible despite his distance from the building. Maybe a kilometer?
A failed attempt to take a step forward proved that his legs didn’t exist in this world, a huge inconvenience along with having no arms or mouth, just sight and hearing. Wind swished undramatically past his ears, masking the ominous echoing footsteps. He only knew someone else was in this world because of the sudden black, almost piercing his eyes.
Though they stood on the distant balcony of the nondescript, dirty brick building, he could feel the scathing glare from them and the sudden jolt ensuing from nearly undetectable, but alarming eye contact.
The person’s long, untangled black hair shifted as they turned slightly to their right in annoyance, leaning their left arm on the banister with a suppressed sigh.
“Clearly, you don’t remember me either.” Their voice was distant, emotionless, and cold, and nearly a whisper, yet completely audible. Laced into their voice was a nearly imperceptible hint of concern, almost as if they cared about his fate.
With a strangled attempt to return the remark with confusion, he realised that he also lacked a mouth.
“I suppose you could call us something like…best friends. Or maybe roommates fits the bill better.” They responded, answering the unasked question completely calmly, as if they knew they hit the nail right on the head and didn’t bother lingering on their incredible intuition. Instead, they simply turned back to their original position, relieving themself of a resting position.
With a loud finger snap, the front of the banister shifted away, and a brick staircase to his position replaced it, and black began infecting the once white areas like an injection, but the ever-present pink remained, holding their positions as outlines. With that, they began their drawn-out decline on the newly formed stairs.
“I am sure that he-…they all are worrying about us. Succeeding such an incident, all of them should be afraid. Perhaps we are the spine of it all.”
Five steps descended, twenty-six left.
“You could call this our vacant room. One of us is out, the other is here. Something is wrong is both of us are here at once. They are awaiting your return, not mine. Go back, Hinata.”
Eleven steps descended, twenty left.
“There’s not enough space in this world for us to meet here simultaneously. I will not disappear if you leave.”
Twenty-two steps descended, nine left.
“I am once again asking for you to leave.”
Twenty-eight steps descended, three left.
The person halted. “You know what will happen if you don’t move.”
He couldn’t move. His legs were gone.
Thirty-one steps descended.
“Very well, then.”
With slow, practiced, and daunting footsteps in his direction, the person suddenly wielded a knife. A voice whispered in his ear. “This world is whatever I wish it to be.”
Without an expression shift, despite claiming to be best friends, they emotionlessly stabbed the knife into his side. The obscene sound of metal piercing organs replayed itself in his head, looping like a catchy rhythm. The audio of the knife divorcing from his body was worse than the original noise, somehow.
“Forced pain. I’m sorry.” They didn’t sound sorry.
“Goodbye.”
He awoke surrounded by unfamiliar faces. Two of them, to be specific. A girl, purple choppy hair and a permanent meek expression carved into her muscles. An androgynous man, shoulder-length curly white hair appearing more brown at the ends like color escaped from his hair. The girl was visibly shocked, the man just teared up with a bright smile. She ran off, calling out an apology and a brief explanation.
“Hajime…” The man let an unfamiliar name slip past his lips. And in an unbelievable flash, the white-haired man was sobbing into his chest, bending in an uncomfortable position from his wooden chair.
“Tsumiki said you..you might never wake up.” Hiccup, sob. “But…I knew you could get through this. I’m so-” He paused once more to rub his eyes, smiling. “-happy.”
“Oh..yeah, that’s, um great!” Was it too rude to push him off after expressing his happiness at his well being? Yes, likely. After such a strangled response, surely he would pull himself off of him, right? Of course, he was right. The beautiful- wait, what- male sat upright in his chair in abrupt fear. If nothing else, he was predictable.
“Oh, is something wrong, Hajime? I’m sorry I touched you, I-” Somehow, he already knew a self-deprecative rant was incoming.
“No, it’s just-”
His sentence cut off when the purple-haired girl walked back in with a file in her hands.
“Hinata! Y-you’re awake now, so, i-if you don’t mind, I just want to ask you s-some things.” She said, clenching a file in her hand. The paper already crunched slightly in her hand. Gentle, indecisive, scared of being too confrontational or confident. Predictable, once more.
He ignored the oncoming chill sourcing from those thoughts.
“Actually, I’d like to ask you something first.”
“Yes, a-anything.”
“Um…well…who am I?”
——————————–
Once Komaeda and Tsumiki (as they had introduced themselves) came down from the sudden shock of his question, Tsumiki handed him a file and left to alert the rest of the island residents. Was it a small community? Did he have many friends?
“Your name is Hinata Hajime. Your blood type is A, you’re one hundred seventy-nine centimeters tall. You weigh sixty-seven kilos and your chest size is ninety-one centimeters.” Komaeda listed off his physical traits in his soothing voice, but even Hinata could hear the hidden panic in his words.
“We seem…close.” Hinata pondered out loud.
“You were my first friend, Haj-…Hinata-kun. Of course we’re close.”
He couldn’t help but to notice that Komaeda kept more distance between them compared to when he first woke up.
The unspoken question hung in the air, but was left unanswered.
“You’re friends with everyone here too. I’m sure they’re dying to see you again.”
An obvious desperate attempt to ditch the conversation, but an attempt that he tried to follow regardless.

Imposter is kind. Hanamura is perverted. Koizumi is harsh. Pekoyama is intimidating. Saionji is rude. Mioda is cheerful. Tsumiki is meek. Nidai is strong. Tanaka is…interesting. Komaeda is wonderful. Sonia is not princessy. Owari is hungry. Kuzuryu is strangely comforting. Souda is friendly. Mitarai is wary.
He repeats it to himself, over and over, until names and faces match.
——————————–
Tsumiki still smelled faintly of vanilla, but the pollen had disappeared and replaced itself with the factory aroma of chemical-loaded cleaning supplies. The smell was intoxicating, following her as she tripped over her own feet with a tray of empty syringes. To imagine her intentions with them was nearly terrifying despite her incessant, profuse apologies. As she rearranged the empty shots in size order, he could only feel like he could do better.
A ridiculous fantasy, but one that he couldn’t help but to entertain. Her hands were shaking as she set it down beside his uncomfortable hospital bed. She exclaims another apology as she excuses herself to go grab more supplies.
She was…adequate. She took care of people without expecting an apology or anything in return. He wondered if he, too, could do that.
Even as he sat, helpless in a purely white hospital room, he still had the nerve to think of himself as above her. The quiet voice in his head whispered it like a cacophony, but not in an unfriendly way. A silent reminder. Nothing more.
She returned, nothing but a filled syringe clenched tightly in her left hand, like it would disappear if he loosened her grip even slightly. He let a light sigh tumble from his lips.
How boring.
——————————–
A lone girl sat on a bench in front of a fountain. She sat there, without acknowledging the presence of the spectator. She flicked around a joystick and clicked buttons in perfect harmony, never missing a beat as her face remained placid. The left side of the bench appeared painfully empty when she sat closer to the right. If he closed his eyes hard enough, he could almost feel a similar console in his hands as he sat beside her, clicking the buttons with as much precision and expertise as her professional self.
But the memory was no more than an unattainable fantasy. It dissolved like an uncoated pill if he looked away for even a second. He didn’t sugarcoat it for himself, simply let the memory slip through his fingers.
When she appeared again, it was more painful. A fatal wound leaked onto the ground, drowning her in her own blood. With such wounds, breathing was laborious and even the slightest hopes of living died along with her body.
She already knew she was dead, yet her spirit refused to give up. A faltered attempt to stand on her destroyed feet only proved further that her life was already over. But she still found it in herself to breathe out meaningless words that she thought carried weight.
Her will to keep living meant nothing. She meant nothing. She was boring. She was weak and let herself die. He watched, a voyeur to her pain.
Somehow, he still found himself looting her Galaga hair clip.
Even stranger, he found himself crying, too.
——————————–
Nanami. Nanami Chiaki.
He hated forgetting her, but hated more to remember how he did nothing to save her.
——————————–
Most returning memories centered themselves around Chiaki, but this one was different.
It was Komaeda this time, but not quite Komaeda. His hair was clearly the same, but his mechanical arm was a real arm. But that wasn’t his, either. Long, merciless red nails and a mismatched skin tone gave the impression that it was a woman’s arm. Longing for a forgotten green and red oven mitt only grew at the disgusting sight.
The aforementioned arm fell quickly to his mouth as if he was laughing at him. No noises found their way out, he just kept it in the same spot.
“Isn’t it so disgusting?” Komaeda inquired.
“Rather, impressive that you’ve managed to keep her arm from rotting.” An empty compliment, just for the predictable flush to appear on Komaeda’s face.
Komaeda swatted her hand up and down as if in refusal. “Don’t waste your praise on me, Kamukura-san. I’m just a lowly servant.”
Feelings shifted through him like someone studying the contents of a file cabinet. Still, he remembered feeling nothing but the cold night air.
“Aren’t you cold, Servant?” Kamukura answered nonchalantly. “A metal collar is bound to breed cold, correct? Winter’s solstice is to occur soon.”
Servant’s face went redder, though he wasn’t sure if it was from the cold or the embarrassment. “If I was cold, what would you do about it?”
“Bring you back to the children, naturally. I’m rather busy today if you didn’t know.”
“Can’t you humor me just for a bit?”
——————————–
Time proved effective in restoring his memories. The puzzle was far from complete, but the edges were set in place and he began to form a vague picture of the past.
Nobody told him that they, on this island, had assisted in destroying the world in the name of Enoshima Junko. Nobody told him that they, on this island, had entered a program to help restore their hopeful selves where a series of gruesome murders and executions occurred at the hands of Enoshima Junko’s AI- one that another him released into a world meant for hope.
Nobody told him about his relationship with Komaeda.
——————————–
Hinata had asked Komaeda to join him on the second island’s vast library. With the bridge in progress, they ferried themselves over to it in silence. Komaeda was never the type to enjoy meaningless conversations, after all. So they kept to themselves, nervously poking at whatever while trying to get over to the island safely. It’s quiet, but not awkward as they step off the boat in sync.
The walk to the library wasn’t uncomfortable, but awkwardly brushing hands and stuttered apologies in response almost put him under the illusion that it was.
Memories of the past attempted to convince him that it was fine to be close to Komaeda, but it felt wrong when he wasn’t quite that him anymore. So he kept himself in line, stopped himself from impulsively grabbing Komaeda’s hand, and stopped himself from kissing him gently and calling him by his first name- at least until Komaeda was fine with that.
“So…why did you ask me here, Hinata-kun?” Komaeda asked, very obviously trying to lace innocence into the undertones.
“I know the truth now.”
Hinata was never the blunt type, but that definitely took the cake in terms of being direct.
“What truth? I’m sorry, I’m not sure what you-”
“I know we were together, Komaeda. I know about us being the Remnants of Despair, and I know about the Neo World Program.”
There, it was out. Komaeda looked incredulous for a moment, but blinked. His eyes weren’t quite so wide anymore. He breathed out a sigh in apparent acceptance.
“It was stupid to think you’d never know, huh?” Hinata could hear the fake smile hidden in his voice, dying the tone a soft shade of red.
“I guess you know now. Surely you’re disgusted, right? To think that you were close to someone like me….I don’t know if I’d be happy, either.”
“No, that’s wrong! I’m…I want to try this again. I might not be exactly the same, but I want to be by your side. If you’d like that, I mean.”
The boy opposite him didn’t say a word, instead took both of his hands in his and smiled. And that was confirmation enough.
——————————–
As long as it took to remember Nanami, Komaeda, and Enoshima, it took longer to remember the strange file resting in the only computer on the island. With a vague name such as PCS as a folder with only two items, two folders with the names “Observers” and “Users”, it left him clueless as to the true nature of whatever the nature of the files were. Nobody else seemed to know either.
Saionji told him to figure it out for herself and continued walking with Koizumi, who said that though the words seemed familiar, she didn’t know quite what they meant.
Owari shrugged and continued eating meat, never giving a conclusive answer. But the confusion in her eyes was enough to see that she didn’t know at all.
So skimming the files within the folder was sufficient at the moment. Two files rested quietly in the observer folders, code destroyed beyond belief. The one called Teacher.exe simply opened to a screen of editable binary, letters half-complete and words irrecoverable. It was nearly impossible to figure out what it was, other than that its name was Usami.
Student.exe was more confusing. Rather than the expected text editor of messy binary, a screen opened but full of missing pixels. A sound played, unidentifiable and sounded like a noise a computer would make. So he closed the files, hoping that whatever was in there remained intact, which it likely would.
The memory rush was like watching a horror movie with a sudden jumpscare. That was Nanami, it was Nanami fucking Chiaki. Her code was nearly unsalvageable, but in just good enough condition to be understood and rewritten. He guessed that, since the computer sat in the room he was told he went to often, he was trying to repair Student.exe or Teacher.exe.
With the Student.exe file nearly cohesive, already starting to be pieced together once more, it was more likely that Student.exe was almost repaired, that maybe they could have Nanami back again.
With that in mind, he let his talents take over.
——————————–
A knock at the door tore him away from the screen. More accurately, two brief knocks that were firm and almost loud, as if their fingers joints alone kissed the door. Groaning as his nearly numb legs carried him over, he opened the door unenthusiastically, rubbing the grogginess out of his eyes.
Komaeda stood there, hair tied back into a small ponytail, wearing no jacket and pajama pants with his everyday shirt as he walked in without an invitation. He simply smiled, sat beside the chair that Hinata was already returning to, cupped the side of Hinata’s face in his hand, and kissed his cheek tenderly.
“Komaeda, I-”
“Shh…she’d be so happy that you want to bring her back, but I think she’d also tell you that you’re overworking yourself. Come back after you rest.” Komaeda insisted. He wasn’t the insisting type, so Hinata could already taste the desire for him to rest hidden in his words.
“If it makes you happy.”
Hinata stood up, legs slightly less tingly and shaky, and walked away from the computer, not before forgetting to save his progress.
Somewhere, a half-finished program contained in a computer smiled for no reason other than her own happiness.
Student.exe just watched, program left open and let out a small laugh.

—————
Shampoo Bottles
It’s Saturday, something Akaashi doesn’t realize until he is flying halfway out his front door and huffing a breath at his phone screen’s mocking display: 6:30 AM, Saturday, June 14th. Exactly a week before Hinata’s birthday.
He blinks and remembers the night before, when he was nursing a red wine and a deadline for his “Ono Natsume: Shouting for the Voiceless” article. He remembers, vaguely, submitting the piece at 11:50 and dropping his head right there on his cheap Ikea desk, exhausted.
Presently, he’s nodding awkwardly at his neighbor (leaving the complex to work out, no less) and trying to make it look, somehow, like he meant to open his front door only to close it seconds later.
Toeing off his work shoes and entirely caught off guard by the idea of a day off, Akaashi retreats to his bed. He passes out almost as soon as his foggy head hits the pillow, dreaming of nothing. The next time he opens his eyes, his breath and body still completely.
“Mornin’, sleeping beauty! It’s ten, I’m surprised you slept so long!”
“Kuroo-san, why are you in my apartment?”
The offender offers no answer but grins brilliantly, gold irises level with Akaashi’s blue-green.
“And just how long have you been here anyway?” Kuroo ignores him again, instead choosing to stand from his squatting position. His hands at his hips, Kuroo wears a white oversized Bouncing Ball hoodie and black skinny jeans. Much to Akaashi’s discomfort, he still has his shoes on- red and white high top sneakers with the laces tucked in. As always, the guy’s flawlessly disheveled, silver jewelry glinting from his ears and neck.
Akaashi groans and plants his face in his pillow. It’s too early for the young, beautiful, and rich.
Kuroo, unsurprisingly, doesn’t yield Akaashi’s thoughts and scoffs once. He moves to draw open the curtains in his room. Keiji can’t help but grimace as he feels his skin bathed in hot summer light.
“Man. You should really dust your windowsills. Do you even ever open these things?! You’re not some bat, ‘Kaashi. You need fresh air.”
“I think bats need air too,” Akaashi mumbles into the pillow.
Kuroo waves a dismissive hand and turns to survey him, arms folded across a broad chest. Keiji reluctantly turns his head to address his stare, squinting without the aid of his glasses or contacts. Kuroo’s bedhead is seemingly even worse today- probably from whatever plane he just hopped out of. The latter smirks devilishly.
“Well. Are you gonna welcome me back or what?”
“So you didn’t expect to land in Tokyo until Thursday?” Akaashi asks this of Kuroo about 45 minutes after his intrusion into the writer’s apartment. The pair are getting brunch in some needlessly swanky rooftop restaurant, one where Kuroo insisted he wouldn’t get recognized. Akaashi raised his eyebrows at that- his friend had stuffed his signature messy locks into one of Akaashi’s ratty baseball caps and donned aviators the moment they got outside.
No matter to him, anyway. Akaashi got fancy champagne out of the deal.
“Sure didn’t. Management canceled the show in Singapore last minute. Something about the venue. Fuck if I know,” Kuroo explains almost incoherently through colossal bites of egg.
“What matters is nobody got hurt. We refunded tickets and rescheduled the gig. S’all good. I’m just happy to be back home with my buddy!” Kuroo reaches over to slap Akaashi on the back with a friendly grin.
He’s sputtering over his mimosa when Kuroo continues, “Can’t wait to surprise Kenma tonight, either. Can you imagine his face?"
“Yeah, actually, I can,” Akaashi slouches his shoulders forward in his chair with an uninterested expression and quirks up an eyebrow ever so slightly, impersonating his best friend.
“Hey, that was pretty good! Though I guess it’s not that hard for you. You’re both pretty stoic. Like Easter Island Heads.”
Akaashi swats at him half-heartedly. Kuroo laughs.
“Anyway, you’re lucky I didn’t call him immediately this morning- or the police for that matter,” Akaashi says matter of factly. Kuroo clutches at his heart dramatically.
“Akaashi-kun. You wound me. I am the furthest from a criminal.”
Akaashi huffs a laugh.
“Tell the Osaka police force that.”
“Hey! What, a guy can’t take a piss anymore?”
“Not, apparently, from the top of the Umeda Sky Building-”
“To be fair, I didn’t know the police officer was right there,” Kuroo interjects.
“-After downing half a bottle of Malibu with Oikawa. And you were 17. You were lucky you didn’t get charged with public indecency.”
Kuroo pouts but offers no petition.
“Guilty as charged, I suppose. Hey, speaking of police officers-”
Akaashi clears his throat and interrupts, “Speaking of drinking, how was Singapore?”
Kuroo takes the hint and stretches back in his chair, raising his third bloody mary to his lips.
“Didn’t get much time there, only about four days before I got the call about the cancellation. Flew straight here after the news.”
Straight to Kenma, Akaashi supplies mentally, grinning fondly at his friends’ relationship.
“Anyway, it was pretty mild, all things considered. Bokuto seemed to like the clubbing scene more than I did. Matter of fact, he’s staying there ‘til the next concert.”
“Bokuto?” Akaashi says, cutting into his eggs and watching the yolk spill onto his fork.
Kuroo, now onto his nearly 2,500 yen crepe, takes a break from his meal to look up at him with a puzzled stare.
“My tourmate? Bokuto Koutarou? X. Ace?”
Akaashi meets his eyes blankly.
“I guess it makes sense his stage name doesn’t ring a bell, but I’m surprised you don’t know about the guy’s v-ball career.”
The blue-eyed 24 year old drops his gaze to the napkin in his lap.
“Sorry, sorry. Touchy topic.”
Pain-in-the-ass-Kuroo-san.
“Anyway, you should really check out some of his matches with the Panthers.”
“He was signed with the Panthers?” Akaashi sputters, clapping his mouth shut immediately after.
Kuroo cackles.
“Don’t give yourself a heart attack, Akaashi. It’s okay to be impressed- it’s impressive. He’s crazy. You’ll be meeting him soon.”
Akaashi only hums in response.
"You're coming to the show, right?"
Akaashi hums again.
"Big talker today, huh, Keiji?"
"Bah."
“Right. So.. you baited yourself a hook yet?”
“Beg your pardon?”
“You know. After Daichi,” Kuroo tries again.
No, he really hasn’t.
Akaashi downs the rest of his drink. He peers into his empty glass in response.
“Haven’t thought about it really. He said it himself- I don’t have the time.”
“Oh, Keiji. Nevermind him.”
“Don’t sigh like that. Did you fly all the way from China to pity me?”
The rapper shakes his head, “No, I didn’t. I just want you to-”
“Be as happy as you are with Kenma,” Keiji finishes.
Kuroo gives a gentle smile, “Can you blame me?”
“God. You two are worse than the shoujo manga I have to review.”
“But twice as fun.”
“Shut up and eat your crepe.”
Kuroo happily complies, “Don’t have to tell me twice.”
“I’m glad you’re home, Kuroo-san,” Akaashi remarks. And he is. Even with his busy lifestyle as a chart-topping artist, Kuroo somehow manages to draw Kenma and Akaashi out of the house.
Kuroo and Kenma are both relatively new to their fame- about three years out from Kuroo’s first breakthrough hit and four since Kenma first started his Bouncing Ball Youtube channel- but their fans are… dedicated. Akaashi often marvels at how even Kenma takes it in stride. He's entertaining to watch and a seasoned video game expert. And Kuroo... Akaashi looks to the man and the ketchup stain on his lip.
"What?"
Well, they both deserve their good fortune.
"Nothing, nothing."
He has interviewed them each multiple times for the journal. The good thing about his friends’ famous status is that Akaashi gets to profit from it as well. He tells Kuroo as much and the latter almost chokes on his stupidly expensive breakfast laughing. Even Akaashi cracks a small grin.
“I told that was him!” The writer hears two girlish voices behind him, talking in excited whispers.
“E-Excuse me, K-Kuroo-san?”
The rapper breaks out in a large grin and stands, bowing formally at the pair.
“Yes? Hello, ladies. Are you two fans of mine?”
“Yes!! Very much so! I loved your new song!” The girl, about 17 with dark lashes and fire red hair, praises politely.
“Would, would you mind taking a picture with us!?” The other chirps.
“Not at all! Akaashi, my pal, would you be a dear and snap some shots?” It takes everything for Akaashi not to roll his eyes.
“But of course.”
--------------------
This is how Akaashi comes to search up the 2018 Panthers roster on his phone’s Google. He gives up his sleuthing when he realizes he doesn’t remember the guy’s name or know what he looks like.
He forgets about the whole thing until later that night, at Kenma’s celebration party for 5 million followers. It’s small, of course, about ten of them drinking champagne and playing drinking games. Akaashi knows Hinata did all the planning anyway, despite the event being at Kenma’s. The trio is standing off to the side when Akaashi pulls out his phone briefly to check the time.
Kuroo should be here any minute, he thinks. Hinata peers too, instinctually curious.
“Hey! Whatcha looking up the Panthers for? That’s not the latest roster, you know! Ooh, you’re looking up X-Ace, right?! Seeeeee, I knew you’d like him!”
Akaashi looks down at the picture Hinata points to. The guy’s sturdy and smug with one thick eyebrow raised. His chest is broad and his eyes are perfectly golden. The first thing Akaashi notices, however, is his hair. Absolutely ridiculous, he thinks. Makes sense that this guy’s Hinata’s idol.
Kenma raises his eyebrows.
“What made you do that?” he asks.
“Oh, uh, just...curious.”
Kenma looks like he’s about to say more when Oikawa joins their group with a boisterous, “Pudding Head! Congratsssss!” He pinches the smaller’s cheeks, who just about hisses in response.
Akaashi, grateful for Oikawa’s interruption, takes another quick glance at… X-Ace, and pockets his phone.
Hinata grins wide when Tooru, seemingly already a bit tipsy, ruffles his hair.
“Thanks, Oikawa-san," Kenma begrudgingly replies.
“You know, Kuroo is-”
Akaashi, ever vigilant, cuts in immediately, “-is so happy for you, Ken.”
Oikawa seems to get the hint, his eyes widening in realization.
“He sure is! Want some more alcohol?” The chestnut-haired friend of Kuroo’s quickly shoves his bottle of strawberry rum in Kenma’s face.
“You know I hate your sticky Malibu. Why are you guys acting all weird?”
Hinata, completely oblivious to the unspoken diaogue between Akaashi and Oikawa, tugs Kenma’s shirt.
“Kenma, Kenma! We should stream!!”
“Hey, that’s not too bad an idea, Shoyo,” Akaashi adds, if just to distract him.
“Sure, we could play some Mario-Kart. My fans seem to like you guys. Just don’t do anything stupid, Tooru.”
“Who, me?! And when do I-” Oikawa starts dramatically. The rest of the men send him a collective stare which answers his question before he can even finish it. He crosses his arms with a huff.
“Whatever. I call Princess Peach.”
--------------
After Kenma finishes setting up the Livestream and the small group has gained over a couple thousand viewers, Akaashi is in dead last as Blooper. Well, almost dead last, expect for...
“How am I losing? No fair, Kozume!” Oikawa whines.
“Me? What did I do?” Kenma-san replies, uninterested. Unsurprisingly, the Youtuber is in first place with his signature Toad.
“I don’t know, your fancy settings or something. Iwa-chan! Back me up, here!”
“It’s ‘cause you suck, Trashy-kawa,” Iwaizumi-san, whom the quartet bribed into playing with agedashi dofu, doesn’t hesitate to retaliate. His player, Bowser, is in second, with Hinata close behind as Yoshi.
“Take that, Hajime-san! Oh, shoot, sorry, Akaashi-san!” Hinata shouts, rising from his seat as he hurls a red shell, accidentally hitting Keiji.
“Hinata, language!” Kuroo’s smooth voice floods the apartment in mock disapproval. Kenma whips his head so fast he drops his controller. The blonde doesn’t say anything but slowly rises to his feet, then breaks into a short run at the sight of his boyfriend. The former picks up Kenma effortlessly and twirls him in a tight embrace. Akaashi looks on fondly.
“Kuroo-san!” Hinata exclaims, jumping up excitedly.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever, Tetsuro’s home. I’m about to kick all of your asses!” Oikawa waves away his entrance, sticking out his tongue. Iwaizumi slaps him on the back of the head.
The stream chat has exploded at the sound of Kuroo.
bb-corp: is that Kuroo???
applephi: NO WAY djwhdnbwibdfwq
yoyotetsuro: couple goals
kurokenxx: will anyone ever love me like Kuroo loves Kenma?
keeeeenmaaa_: I think this is the first time BouncingBall’s lost at Mariokart
----------
A little tired and a lot tipsy, Akaashi insists on taking a cab home. It doesn't feel right to invade Kenma's when the Kuroo's home. Keiji could tell the pair... needed their space for the night. He splits the ride with Hinata, who talks his ear off the whole way about Kuroo's arrival and how badly he wishes he had the money to go to a concert. Akaashi smirks at that, just a little. Shoyo exits the vehicle with an enthusiastic, "Bye, 'Kaashi-san!! I'll see you soon! Maybe I'll come to the store, or, or, you can come to see me and Tobio-chan! He didn't come out tonight because he has a game tomorrow, but-" The rest of his goodbye is drowned out by him closing the door.
"I apologize for the noise," Keiji addresses the driver. She makes a noise of recognition and drops him off 15 minutes later. He thinks about his conversation with Kuroo about "baiting his hook" as he enters his living room, dropping his keys unceremoniously on the floor next to his door. What does that even mean? Akaashi doesn't exactly meet a lot of people with his work and his friends are all, well, with each other. He's happy for them and all, but sometimes being around so many couples gets a bit nauseating. Akaashi is struck with a small wave of loneliness when he waters his small bamboo plant, made worse by the two shots of Malibu Oikawa shoved down his throat. This is all I have to come home to, a fucking bamboo plant. Akaashi stares at its braided stalks with a vengeance. Not a second later, he pets the leaves in apology. I shouldn't take this out on the plant.
He's always been relatively independent, but having someone felt kind of... nice, for a change. It's been almost a year since Daichi left, and probably 6 months since he and Suga got together. It's one of those things that Akaashi didn't process for awhile, forcing him to fend for himself when the realization came to knock him on his ass months down the line. He's been confronting turned over picture frames and empty sheets ever since.
And so it goes.
He pads over to his bed with a sigh and for the second time today, falls asleep and dreams of nothing.

Tumblr media
Things we deserved to get from the Naruto manga and anime that we never got -
• JONIN NARUTO -
Tumblr media
We followed him around as the lovable Genin knucklehead. Now it goes without saying that him being a Jonin is just a rank and honestly doesnt mean much. Rescuing Gaara, going after Kakuzo, Mount Miyaboku were all A & S-rank missions.
But I would liked to have seen him doing missions post war in a slightly more mature yet typically knuckleheaded manner instead of the passing phrase he made tonShikamaru about being too busy doing missions for the next 6 months.
We grew up with Naruto and now that he's older and stronger we dont get to see him in action.
• A Happily Married Kakashi & Shizune-
Hatake Kakashi has led a deeply traumatic life. His mother died when he was very young, his father committed suicide when he was 6 causing him to distance himself from everyone around him. The first person he opened up to and formed a bond with died moments later protecting him, the girl he deeply cared for and probably harbored feelings for which he was too afraid to confront died at his hands as he desperately tried to protect her, a year later his sensei died protecting the village. When he became a sensei to Team 7 he felt he was on a path to finding inner peace by ensuring these children avoid his traumas but his prized pupil went rogue shattering that hope. After all this I’d hoped he would’ve finally found a happy ending.
Why Shizune? Well I considered him and Kurenai getting together and him helping raise Mirai but Shizune has always felt like the only Kunoichi in Konoha who has her shit together. She is perfectly at peace with where she is in life. She is incredibly mature and level headed as she helps run the village with Tsunade. Someone who is at peace with herself and her aspirations is the perfect anchor for a man with a whirpool of trauma brewing in him.
Alas it seems like the showrunners have no intention of a romantic arc for Kakashi and the Hatake name will die with Kakashi.
• The Uzumaki Clan
Within a span of 3 months Naruto meets 3 Uzumaki clan members. Nagato, Karin and his own mother. While speaking with Kushina he finds out about the dark fate of the Uzumaki clan. How they were blessed with unimaginably high chakra reserves and were gifted in Sealing Jutsus, longevity and how it led to them being targeted by those who feared them leading to their village being wiped out and scattered across the shinobi world.
Instead of turning the Naruto saga into the Uchiha Chronicles Id have preferred a deep dive into the Uzumaki clan. Maybe even have a Sasuke-like venegeful figure who wants Konoha to suffer because they failed to provide aid to the village they called their strong allies in their greatest hour of need.
Like Sasuke this villain would’ve witnessed his fellow clansmen cut down, unlike Sasuke however he wouldn’t have had the likes of Naruto, Itachi or Kakashi to anchor him in the light leaving room for redemption.
This could have been the one villain that was so far gone in his pain and hatred that no amount of 'talk no jutsu' could have changed his mind and would've pushed Naruto to the very brink until he finally had to choose between killing his clansman or protecting his village.
Naruto would make the ultimate sacrifice for Konoha and this would all the more set his resolve to pulling Sasuke back from the darkness or dying with him.
An Uzumaki villain gifted in Fuijutsu and the use of the Uzumaki Kekkei Genkai, the Adamantine Chains along with massive chakra reserves would be the perfect power scaled villain for Post Pain Arc Naruto.
Instead we got Uchiha chronicles where everyone did whatever the fuck they thought of doing and chakra limits were all but history. This one really disappointed me. Which brings me to my next disappointment.
• Naruto Killing a Villain
Now I know it seems like an odd hang up. Naruto? Kill? But he is so fixated on redemption. That is exactly why I wanted this to happen. The series has gone out of its way to make sure Naruto hasn’t killed a character. The worst of it was against Kakuzu. The kind of attack unleashed upon Kakuzu SHOULD by all means have killed him. Yet somehow he was left in a ‘dying state’ and Kakashi was the one who did the deed.
Naruto being forced to kill a villain as a last resort and making a choice between saving someone dear to him or tainting his hands with blood was the ultimate moral conundrum for a shinobi whose biggest goal was rescuing his best friend from the dark. It would take him back to Itachi’s words where he asked Naruto what he would if Sasuke decided to destroy the village.
Instead we saw Rasen Shuriken and Rasengan getting scaled down to a point where they always injure and opponent but not kill him. For an S-rank jutsu, Rasen Shuriken happens to be quite lenient.
• Neji beoming the head of the Hyuuga Clan
Tumblr media
This pisses me off the most. Neji was supposed to be to the Hyuuga was Naruto was to Konoha. I always expected Neji to overcome all the obstacles and get recognized by Hiashin who would then redeem himself and disband the branch system once and for all. Hiashin as a character was never redeemed. Here was a man who let his brother get executed to avoid punishment (albeit he was against it but it did happen), constantly abused his kind daughter and belittled her for being too soft and put her down to a point her personality was underdeveloped and she had deep seethed confidence issues.
Disbanding the branch system and making Neji the leader would redeem him in the eyes of the readers/ viewers and would clean up the Hyuuga clan.
Instead Neji was scrapped aside to give Naruto and Hinata a bonding moment. They had a bonding moment, it was when she almost died saving his life. Neji didn’t have to die for them to get together ffs. What a wasted potential.
• NaruSaku
Tumblr media
Now I’m not a fanatic shipper. In fact when I read and watched the original series I absolutely HATED Sakura. My hatred for her reached it’s peak during the Zabuza arc when Naruto ran at the S-rank villain, got kicked away and got up to show he went in for his forehead protector. “What do you think you’re doing Naruto? Even Sasuke-kun wasn’t a match for him.” I just wanted Naruto to turn around and tell her to stfu in that moment. As the series approached the time skip I was well and truly content with NaruHina.
Tumblr media
But Shippuden changed things. The hints towards Sakura’s changed feelings were sprinkled all over the series. One moment that stands out for me was the Clone Training arc where Sai tests her by abusing Naruto and she goes on a rage rant about how great he is. Let’s not forget that in her darkest hour, as she saw a ruined and destroyed village the only person she thought of and cried out to was Naruto. Not because she felt he could save the village (she was as shocked as Shikamaru as she found out he was facing pain alone) but because when things when bad for her the only person who she felt comfort around was indeed Naruto and that is indisputable.
Tumblr media
She goes as far as ruining her friendship with Naruto, a bond she truly cherished as it was all she had left after Sasuke abandoned the village, and confessed her feelings to manipulate him. Yes manipulative, scheming and downright a bitch of a thing to do. But it was all she could think of to make Naruto stop chasing after Sasuke. She, more than anyone wanted to see Naruto become a Hokage and realize his dreams and dying while rescuing Sasuke was a risk she couldn’t take and she decided she’d have him hate her than die. Wrong yes. But oddly noble.
Tumblr media
This combined with all the blatant attempts to establish her being like Kushina and Kushina saying she wants Naruto to find someone like her changed my mind from NaruHina. I still adore Hinata. She is a wonderful character. But organic plot progression is far more important to me than my ships being canon.
Tumblr media
A Naruto-Sakura family would’ve been incredibly entertaining and the dynamics would be perfect. We’d see a Minato-Kushina couple on screen for the next series. Which brings me to my next disappointment.
•HinaShino
I don’t know if that’s the official name for the pairing but I always felt these 2 would make a great couple. They are both people of a few words and are both incredibly intuitive and understanding individuals. Shino would accept Hinata for who she was and vice versa. Being with someone who was happy with the person they were would go miles in helping them come out of their shells.
Altho this isn’t a massive disappointment for me. I’m happy that Hinata ended up with Naruto. But like I said organic plot progression matters to me and if Naruto ended up with Sakura I’d prefer Hinata to end up with Shino.
•Hiraishin No Jutsu
Tumblr media
Sadly as the series progressed Naruto had become so OP that not letting him master his father’s improved version of Tobirama’s jutsu was a great decision. It would’ve just made him senselessly OP.
However instead of giving him all those God Tier power ups which he just gains in single training sessions I’d have preferred him working hard to master the Hirashin. Instead of sending him off to an island and treating him like a fucking idiot and asking him to survey animals I’d have preferred if Tsunade gave him an impossible task.
“You can’t fight in the battle. But I will only allow it if you can master your father’s jutsu.”
It was a period of 6 months between Danzo’s death and the start of the shinobi war. Ample time to show him training hard to learn a jutsu that for once required him to study. Hiraishin deals not just in physical acts of speed but also mastering seals.  Seeing his friends go off to fight in the war as he was left behind would have only added to his frustration and motivated him more.
Showing Naruto training hard like they showed him training for Rasen Shuriken would’ve only made us cheer all the more harder when he’d make a badass entry on the battle field as Tobi came close to killing Kakashi and a three pronged Kunai swished between the two, an orange flash appeared and Naruto kicked Tobi away.
Sadly this was swapped for Pokemon evolutions where arc after arc Naruto levels up just like that. The show’s entire premise was based on hard work and guts.
Sasuke was the genius who gained his power through natural ability. Sure he trained hard but his strength came to him with ease. Naruto had to slog. He manged to make the Rasengan after nearly 15 episodes of training and even then he had to get stabbed to be able to use it. It wasn’t until another 10 episodes that he properly used it. His training for the Rasenshuriken took an entire season to yield results and even then he didn’t learn to throw it until he trained for another 3 seasons till the Pain arc.
Post pain all this is tossed aside. He sits at the waterfall twice and beats the darkness. He sits in the room once and tames Kurama. Later Kakashi and Guy are in trouble, he has an inner dialogue with Kurama and suddenly he mastered the two man team with no prior training. Rikkodu Sennin touches him once and suddenly he’s learnt how to grow eyes, stop death and fly just like that.
The series stopped being the Naruto series we grew up with post Danzo and it saddens me.
• Naruto Sensei -
Tumblr media
And finally my last and greatest disappointment of all. Not seeing Naruto as a sensei. We’ve seen glimpses of his nurturing side in his interactions with Konohamaru but I’d have loved to have seen 40-50 episodes of him leading his own squad of genins. A perfect combination of Kakashi and Guy as he’d wow them with his brilliance and equally embarrass them in day to day interactions with his goofy tomfoolery. His genins would be in awe of him. Naruto Sensei - the hero of the war.
His students could have an arrogant son/daughter of a feudal lord who insisted he be trained by the war hero, Naruto and Kakashi had to cave in for diplomatic reasons. Naruto refuses to take anyone who doesn’t work hard to get where they are but after the bell test sees potential in the child. A child with no ninja background. His parents were farmers outside of Konoha who were very poor. His sole aim is to be a ninja so strong that he’s always assigned big missions that will help him ease his family’s financial burdens. A genin from the Inuzuka clan (or any other clan, maybe even Hanabi if the show wanted to push more Naruto-Hinata interactions) who thinks he’s better than the other 2 because of his family background but is taught humility by Naruto.
Sadly another development in Naruto’s life we were denied.
Well that’s my rant essay. I know a lot of people won’t agree with what I had to say but I wanted to get it off my best anyway. Why?
Because I wanted to dattebayo!

Desire
Genre: One-shot, Hurt/Comfort, Angst Rating: T Sasuhina Month 2020 Theme Day 7 (Desire)
A/N: I decided to skipped over Day 6. I swear I feel like every time I write, it gets longer and longer lol. Part of my one-shot series for Sasuhina Month 2020. You can read the other parts by going on my profile and clicking the fanfiction tab. They’re not written in a particular order since they are one-shots that are supposed to work as stand-alones, but there are hints here and there about when and where things take place. Anyways, hope you enjoy! Warnings: Mentions of death.
@sasuhinamonth (in case this doesn’t show up in the tags)
It began on a whim.
Sasuke did not anticipate becoming this involved in her life.
The woman named Hinata Hyuga was an odd mystery in his eyes.
They had known each other since childhood due to being born from the two biggest clans in Konoha. The Uchihas and Hyugas were famous for their rivalry as well as their prowess. He remembered attending several meetings with his family to socialize and discuss clan issues with the other prominent ones, including their rivals of course.
The adults had called it parties.
He called it boring.
But those days had long been over. The Uchihas had eventually died in cold blood because of the man known as Itachi Uchiha. He was one of the strongest shinobi to have ever lived in this world.
He was also Sasuke’s older brother.
Even that seemed like a far away memory now. Itachi was already dead. Sasuke had finally avenged his clan. Or that was what he had thought before he had found out the real reasoning behind his brother’s actions. The demise of the Uchiha clan was due to Konoha itself; they had been afraid of the Uchiha’s growing influence within the village and afraid of an uprising to overthrow the system in place. They had ordered Itachi to nip it before anything could take place. They had forced Itachi to kill his friends, lover, and even his own flesh and blood.
Yet despite the horror that his brother was forced to go through, Itachi’s last wish was for Sasuke to continue to protect the very village that had essentially killed the Uchiha.
He never understood why his brother would still want to protect the village after what they had done to their clan. It had left Sasuke with more questions than answers. He could never tell what his brother was thinking. It was something that Sasuke was still trying to figure out. It was why he had decided to leave Konoha to travel in the first place.
He needed time to think.
He needed time to ponder. There were too many things to do, too many things to figure out. He couldn’t stay in the village. He had to leave. He had to in order to find the answers he needed.
So Sasuke travelled.
He travelled wherever the wind blew. Whether it was far or near, he would go. He would explore and learn about the different cultures that existed. He had developed a habit of recording what he saw and what he learned. It had almost become a ritual at this point. Sasuke didn’t mind though, rather he found it calming and fulfilling to do so. It gave him a purpose.
A hawk landed on a rock where Sasuke was currently sitting. The bird ruffled its brown feathers before dropping an envelope in front of him. He reached into his brown bag to grab a piece of dried fish and tossed it to the bird as a reward for a successful delivery. Sasuke watched the hawk squawk in joy as he eagerly devoured the food before looking at the letter he had just delivered to him.
The letter was wrapped neatly in a lavender colored envelope with his name written nicely in the front. There was also a blue paper charm that contained pressed petals from a sunflower taped next on top of the envelope. Sasuke was quite perplexed by the gift as he was not expecting anything from her.
“ Sora, she’s quite persistent isn’t she?” He asked the hawk.
Of course, the hawk was much too busy enjoying his snack to respond.
Hinata Hyuga.
She was the heiress to the Hyuga clan, famous for her highly developed Byakugan. Although they had attended the same academy and became shinobi around the same time, the two of them were mostly strangers towards one another. His most prominent memory of her was her famously large crush on his best friend during their genin days. Other than that, Sasuke could not really recall much about the woman other than her heritage.
Yet for some reason, ever since the War had ended, she had constantly and desperately tried to seek him out.
He remembered that night when he had decided to visit Naruto to catch up about life and his travels, he had spotted her quietly watching them. At first, Sasuke had thought that it was his best friend who she had wanted to see, but then he noticed that she had kept staring at him instead. When he had finally finished talking with Naruto and started to leave, she had tried to follow him.
“ I...know this is a selfish request of mine, but...i-if it’s okay with you...I would like to see you again,” She asked between each breath.
Hinata slowly looked at the man towering before her. His cool expression gave away no emotion. She couldn’t tell what he was thinking. She wondered if it was a mistake to ask him.
“ What good will that do? We aren’t friends, Hyuga. I have no interest in doing so either. I have my own things that I have to do. If you want to grieve then do so at your own expense. Don’t come to me to do it,”
“ Please...Please, Sasuke-kun,” She whispered.
She begged him.
She begged as tears started falling from her tired eyes.
But Sasuke was already gone.
He quickly buried away the letter and the paper charm into his bag before starting to eat.
Sasuke was not stupid. He knew why she had seeked him out. It was like that when he had been hospitalized as well. She had seeked him over there too.
“ If you’re going to come in, then just do it already, it’s already late.”
Sasuke had felt a presence in front of his door. Surprised at who the person was behind the door, he made it known that he could tell she was there. He watched as Hinata slowly came into the room. He could make out the scrapes and bruises that had formed on her body from the War. What stood out the most though were her silvery eyes.
They held no light within them.
“ I never expected you, of all people, would come and visit.” He said.
His words held no malice nor its usual coldness. Sasuke felt tired after all. The War had just ended only a few days prior, yet his mind was still not at peace. He watched the woman sit on the floor and bury herself into her hands and knees. Perhaps she too was tired.
Tired of war.
Tired of death.
Tired of the corrupt world that existed.
Tired of living.
It didn’t matter though because in his eyes, Sasuke felt exhausted. He questioned the wish that his brother had left behind. Itachi had suffered due to Konoha, yet it was his dying wish for Sasuke to continue to protect it. Why? He couldn’t understand.
“D-do you think I’m being s-silly right now?” She suddenly asked.
Sasuke didn’t know what to say, so he decided to stare out the window to look at the moon. The moon was shining brightly in the sky, brighter than any of the stars. Yet despite the beauty it held, he could only think of how dull and lifeless the moon looked as it stood alone by itself in the vast darkness.
“ A-ah...Sorry. I know I sound a little strange right now. I apologize for disturbing you. I just had a lot on my mind lately. I’m sure you’ve heard that my...cousin had died.” Hinata tried to explain.
“ I know. I heard.”
Neji Hyuga.
A Branch member of the Hyuga clan. He was regarded as a prodigy, much like himself, during their academy days. Although he never did get to properly fight him, Sasuke respected the man. Even though he was of a lower class, Neji had worked hard to make himself strong. He was probably the strongest Hyuga of their generation. When Sasuke learned of his death, he felt that it was a shame the Hyuga never received the proper chance to prove himself. “ How do you deal with the pain of losing a loved one?” She finally asked.
Sasuke kept staring out the window for what felt like an eternity before turning to face her. Neji had died protecting the woman he considered a sister in a way similar to how Itachi had tried to protect Sasuke. Though the methods they had taken in doing so were different, ultimately, they both had ended up dying in order to protect their most precious person. Though he could not understand why either of them had decided to make such a sacrifice, Sasuke knew one thing.
“ We move forward. We have to live. We have to strive to protect them. If we can’t protect their physical bodies, then the least we can do is protect their ideals. It doesn’t matter how much you cry or suffer, you have to live anyways. If you don’t, then it just means their deaths were in vain. Don’t waste the life they gave you.”
The words that he had spoken were more for himself than it was for her, but Hinata still looked surprised at his words.  They weren’t words of sympathy or pity. There were no apologies nor were there empty condolences within the words he had spoken. They were truly his own thoughts.
Words that he held in his heart because Sasuke knew that no one else would ever understand him. They would never understand the pain that he had to go through, the pain that he was still going through. The pain of not just losing a loved one, but of losing someone that had loved you more than anyone else in the world. More than their friends, more than their lovers, they had sacrificed their own lives due to the love that the two had held for them. That was how important Sasuke and Hinata were to their older brothers.
Perhaps that was why she had started crying when he had said those words to her.
She had cried and cried until there were no tears left. When the last of her tears were wiped, she had started to leave. She bowed to him before turning towards the door.
Sasuke didn’t know why she had decided to come to him for advice, but he knew that she was going through the same emotions that he had gone through. The grief that Hinata was experiencing was something that he was all too familiar with. For the first time, he felt something other than grief and rage bubble up inside of him. Perhaps the War had worn his heart out, but watching her cry had, in some ways, reminded Sasuke of himself.
It had reminded him of the loneliness he had felt as he watched his clan members die.
It had reminded him of the helplessness he had felt as he watched his parents be murdered in cold blood. It had reminded him of the pain he had felt as he watched his brother, the last remaining family member, perish into the heavens.
An experience that no one should have to endure alone.
“ Hyuga,” He finally called out, surprising both Hinata and himself.
The moment her pale grey eyes met his dark ones, Sasuke felt a sense of mutual understanding between them. An unspoken connection that had formed from their shared pain. Sasuke didn’t know why, but he felt the desire to comfort her in that moment. It was irrational of him to do so, it just wasn’t in his nature, yet that was the only conclusion he could come to as he tried to make sense of this unfamiliar feeling forming in his heart.
“ You’re not silly for feeling what you feel. Remember that.”
The only response she gave was a small smile before leaving his room.
Yet it was a smile he would never forget.
It had all begun at that point.
The night after he had rejected Hinata’s desire to see him again, Sasuke kept thinking back to the hospital. He kept thinking back to the moment they had shared together. Her smile, her tears, her expressions, they kept preoccupying his mind. The emotions he had felt watching her as she reminded Sasuke of himself in his own grief was a strange experience. The desire to comfort her was odd. So out of this desire that he couldn’t get rid of, Sasuke had decided to allow her to write letters to him.
To his surprise, Hinata had graciously accepted.
She would write about once a week to him. Sometimes the envelopes felt very bulky. Other times, it would feel like there was no paper at all. Although Sasuke never wrote back, she still continued to write to him.
He never bothered to read them. When his hawk would fly by to drop the letters, Sasuke would just bury it in his backpack and forget about them. He was much too occupied with his own things to worry about hers. Still, she never stopped writing to him. It soon became a routine for them, she would write to him, he would shove it in his bag and continue on the day. He didn’t mind, she didn’t seem to mind either. So Sasuke left it at that.
But you could only travel alone for so long before the sensation of loneliness sinks in.
-----
One day, after almost a year of travelling alone, almost six months since Hinata had started writing to him, Sasuke suddenly felt a wave of loneliness hit him. It was a starless night with the moon hidden away, Sora had already flown into the forest to rest for the night while Sasuke laid in his sleeping bag trying to sleep. He was only halfway through slumber when he had woken up from a nightmare.
Nightmares were common for the Uchiha. He first started having them after watching his parents die. It was something that Sasuke had learned to get used to over the years.
But it was especially bad tonight.
Knowing he couldn’t sleep any more, Sasuke stared at the vast sky. The forest was eerily silent tonight. Not a sound could be heard. Even the wind itself was still. The darkness felt like a black void waiting to ensnare him. All he could see was a vast abyss of nothingness.
There were no stars.
The moon had disappeared.
There was no light.
It was then that the thought finally hit him.
Sasuke was truly alone.
When was the last time he had talked to Naruto? When was the last time he had a decent conversation with his friend? When was the last time he had seen him in person?
When was the last time Sasuke interacted with someone?
He felt the palms of his hands become sticky with sweat. His heart rate had jumped up significantly from his own panicked thoughts. His throat felt dry. His breathing became shallow as if there was no air left to breathe. He felt his body tremble with fear as if there was a monster hidden somewhere in the forest.
But there was no monster.
There was no one.
He was alone.
Sasuke couldn’t stand it anymore. He felt the need to leave. He had to leave. He had to do something, anything, to get this chilling feeling out of his mind. Grabbing his bag, he quickly opened it to get a drink of water to quench his thirst.
However, when he looked inside, he stopped.
Letters.
He had forgotten about the letters.
All his previous thoughts had vanished when he saw the piles of letters inside his bag. All of his attention had shifted to the letters Hinata had written to him. He had never bothered to read a single one. He was not interested.
But now, perhaps due to the discomfort and panic that he was feeling, Sasuke slowly reached into his bag for one. He chose one of the lavender envelopes with his name neatly on it. His fingers gently brushed against the surface, feeling each delicate stroke she had written so elegantly to ensure that he knew it was addressed for him.
Then he slowly opened it, careful not to rip off a part of the letter.
And he began reading.
He never realized how much she had written to him.
Some of the letters were as long as five pages, others were as short as one paragraph, but within each letter, Sasuke could tell that everything Hinata had written came genuinely from her heart. She wrote to him about various things. From trivial things, such as what she had for lunch that day, to much deeper topics such as the regrets she had felt after her cousin had died, she wrote about them all.
Sasuke faithfully read through each one, making sure not a word was missed. He wasn’t sure why Hinata had written so much, but he found her words comforting in a way. It felt as if he was getting to know her little by little through each letter. Before he knew it, the panic he had experienced earlier had already dissipated along with the isolation that he had felt. The only thing left over was a sense of tranquility. A new profound peace that he hadn’t experienced in a long time.
Perhaps the reason why he had helped her that night in the hospital and why he had decided to let her write to him wasn’t because he had wanted to comfort her. Rather, it may have been because deep within his heart, he knew that the one who had wanted to be comforted was himself.
After reading about half the letters, Sasuke finally felt exhaustion hit him. He decided he would finish reading them in the morning, so he neatly placed each one back into his bag before laying back down in his sleeping bag. The moment he laid down, he felt sleepy. A tiredness that felt relaxing rather than full of distress. And as Sasuke finally fell asleep, a new unfamiliar emotion started to grow in his heart.
It was desire.
A desire to see Hinata again.

I Hope Our Future Is Beautiful
For @komahinaisle
Day 7: Future AU, Birthday, Free Day
Summary: Komaeda's relationship with Hinata has changed quite a bit over the years, and it may have all started on his birthday following when they woke up from the NWP. What else is to come? Whatever it is...
Rating: T
Warnings: Some hints at mental instability and referenced self-harm.
Notes: It is like 3am rn and I have only the best ideas at 3am so here’s the last fic for the week. I had other things to say. I forgot what they were. This won’t be the only fic I post today but I want to at least see how it does before I go and post the other one. Or something like that. Oh yeah, it’s actually the other fluffy fic! See, we’re ending things on a high note! Well. For now. Other fic’s not fluffy. Enjoy the fluff while it lasts, rip.

He wasn’t expecting anything the first birthday after he woke up. They were all still recovering, and likely what energy they did muster up had already been expended on Koizumi. He doubted they remembered and even under better circumstances, he wouldn’t have brought it up.
Which is why it’s a surprise when Hinata presents him with a small spongy cake. He’s flustered, in a bit of a bad mood, but mutters all the same, “It’s your birthday, right?”
He had half a mind to swat that cake to the ground, but—because it was the first acknowledgment of his birthday in years, Komaeda found himself smiling.
“Thank you, Hinata-kun.”
It’s strange—but the first time, Komaeda had brushed it off as a fluke. A fluke he might as well enjoy because as much as he resents everything and everyone, he’s still a despicably lonely person who craves the smallest bit of kindness. It would be fine to just enjoy things even if he didn’t deserve them. Just this once.
Except, Hinata makes him another cake the next year. Hinata even smiles at him while offering it. An entire year and they’re on better terms, but Komaeda still hadn’t expected anything like it.
The next year, a party for him had been thrown. It was grossly uncomfortable and suffocating, but he smiled all the same. When things started getting a bit rowdy, he slipped away. He might’ve thrown up in a bush. Hinata was there to console him.
He’s not—sure what happened. Come to think of it, there had been drinking.
The year after was when the two of them started spending nights together. He’s not sure why. He thinks it was the result of another party. Mioda’s, maybe? He remembered it being cold and Hinata being quite warm. Nice to snuggle with.
He was sick the week of New Year’s, had apologized profusely, but Hinata had forgiven him with ease.
The next birthday—Komaeda Nagito made a selfish wish to see sakura trees, which couldn’t survive the island’s climate. Hinata had still acquiesced. Hinata had still been kind. And Hinata had then kissed him under the fluttering shade of pink and white.
This year, his luck ran out, and Hinata was called over for a serious mission that lasted weeks into months. Many of the others had their own duties as well. It was an incredibly busy time. Before he knew it, his birthday had passed without any fanfare. Surprisingly, he hadn’t even been disappointed.
He had gotten used to being alone first and had accepted it. Even when he came to terms with his and Hinata’s relationship, that acceptance of solitude remained. It wasn’t that strange, on second thought. After all, Komaeda had still been preparing himself for the inevitable end of their relationship.
This wouldn’t be the end—there was that, at least.
--
Still, his shared home with Hinata is a bit too big for him alone, just as his parents’ house had been. They had built this place together with the others being so kind as to help out. There were projects like that—some of them had agreed to stay on Jabberwock. Not all of them—but Komaeda had agreed. And Hinata had agreed.
And Hinata had suggested they live together. Except for a while now, Komaeda’s just been living alone, tending to the house and the garden all by himself. He still can’t cook, but he can harvest the crops and eat them. Every so often, Nidai shows up at their door and offers some prepared meat. Something about his diet, something about how he still needs to take care of himself even without Hinata around.
“You want your future to last, right?” Nidai asks with a laugh, and it’s striking how odd it is to hear.
Oh. I never really considered my future until Hinata-kun. Even now, I can’t bring myself to fully contemplate it. I’ve been prepared to die for too long.
It’s despairing to think, but Komaeda doesn’t voice it. As time went on, so many of his thoughts fizzled and fell to pieces. It became difficult to think of the grand scope within a world so small and society so slow to heal. He was sure there was still corruption and evil, of course—but compared to her, wasn’t it all so mundane?
He wondered when everything became a sense of normalcy despite all that he’s lived through. He lives unremarkably now—why is that?
Because of Hinata-kun? Because of Kamukura-kun? Was I set free, then, from my luck cycle?
He cuts up some bell peppers. He clinks the knife against his mechanical hand too many times for them to be innocuous accidents. He’s half-tempted to bring it down with as much force as he can muster. But, this prosthetic had been quite the product for Hinata to take on.
Souda was exceedingly careful when tuning it in Hinata’s absence. He was even pretty strict in teaching Komaeda how to perform self-maintenance for when he was on his own.
He chopped off his hand in the first place for the sake of her, someone who had consumed him without a second thought and still haunted him to this day. And, yet, Hinata replaced her so easily with this creation.
At what point had Hinata-kun and I become so entwined?
Komaeda blinked once, twice, and came up blank for answers.
How strange.
--
Finally, Hinata returned, dragging his feet and looking about ready to collapse.
“I’m back,” he groans, and already Komaeda is taking his coat.
“Welcome home,” is his response, given with an easy smile.
Hinata, despite still looking in a sorry state, does quirk his lips upward in return and—ah. Has he always been so striking? Has he always had this kind of air?
How strange.
He helps Hinata to bed so that he can lay down, undressing him to make sleep come easier. It’s an easy, simple gesture, one that came from comfortable intimacy. Hinata’s the one that gets flustered, even avoiding his gaze. Perhaps because it’s been a while since they were together like this.
Komaeda doesn’t push things, however, finishing up and tucking him to bed. His only indulgence is a kiss on Hinata’s temple. A soft giggle against his forehead as he brushes the other’s short spikes back. He had kind of hoped his hair would have grown out a little since he likes the feel of them.
“I’m not gonna be a free man for much longer,” Hinata murmurs, voice low and a bit raspy. “So, we really should celebrate your birthday to its fullest.”
“My birthday was ages ago,” Komaeda said, amused. “Why not just forget about it?”
Hinata shook his head firmly.
“Never. I’m never just going to forget about you.”
It’s a shame I can’t say the same. Is that why you’re making this promise? Aah. Hinata-kun, you’re such a kind person. Even if I forget you, I hope I still end up loving you.
Hinata touches his cheek. Carefully. Cherishing. Komaeda says nothing as he’s tugged closer, but is responsive when their lips meet.
Because Hinata is tired, it’s initially more the sluggish meshing of lips than anything overly passionate. But it’s comfortable, it’s still pleasant, Komaeda still shivers when his lower lip is nipped, when Hinata pulls him closer so that he can better consume him.
Soft wet smacks reach his ears, and when they part, Komaeda’s mouth feels more swollen than before. Before he can even second-guess himself, he’s already crawled onto the bed, not to pin Hinata down or to straddle him, but to press his face into Hinata’s warm neck. Hinata’s responding chuckle creates nice, soothing vibrations.
Hinata’s arms encircle him for good measure, not that Komaeda would have escaped if he could. Even if he should, sometimes.
“What do you want for your birthday?” Hinata asks warmly, breath tickling his ear. “I’ll get you anything you want, Nagito.”
“You’ve really given me enough,” was his response. “Cakes, kindness, love, belonging, and even a future. I can’t think of anything else to want. And I still think I shouldn’t want anything else at all.”
Hinata sighs, stroking his hair. He’s clearly a little unhappy with that answer. Hinata clearly wants to spoil him, after all. It’s strange, and Komaeda doesn’t understand it. But it—it does make him happy, all the same.
“We should still make up for the time we missed,” Hinata said, and Komaeda could hear the huff in his voice. “We missed out on so much already.”
We have, haven’t we? Lost because of not just despair...but hope as well. How wretched. But, we’re doing our best to move forward, even with the burdens we must bear. What awaits us ten, twenty, a hundred years from now? I hope it’s beautiful.
“You should rest,” Komaeda decided on, nuzzling Hinata’s cheek. “You need to rest. Let’s start making up for the past with sweet dreams of the future—or something like that.”
“I guess that doesn’t sound too bad.” Hinata yawned. “Nagito, mind staying with me until I fall asleep? I mean—you can leave if you have other things to do. I don’t want to force you.”
“I don’t mind. It’s okay. Sweet dreams.” Komaeda kisses the corner of his lips, re-tucking him in best he could since it had been undone by the motions made to embrace him. “Hajime.”
“Nagito,” Hinata says his name ever so sweetly, ever so soothingly, and his eyes shut. His breathing evens out. When Komaeda brushes his fringe back, his fingers run along the faded head scars.
“Happy birthday to me.”
