Study Tips
A person can study anywhere between 15 seconds and 18 hours. However, even though it's possible to study for such long periods of time, it doesn't mean you should.
Studying for such long intervals can be harmful to your body, brain, and eyesight. So, if you still want to study long and hard for more than two or three hours, this is my advice.
1.) Get a good night's sleep.
If you don't get enough sleep in the time before studying, you won't retain much information and it will be harder for you to focus and answer rationally.
2.) Have chewing gum and/or something that smells good.
Chewing gum while you study is a great idea. It improves focus and can even help with study anxiety. It eases your nerves and just all-around makes things easy. As for a good smell: pleasant scents are scientifically proven to be good for your memory. So, if you want to get a great grade, have some essential oils, a candle, or something else that smells good nearby!
3.) Eat.
If you're going to study for long periods of time, make sure to eat when you're hungry. Hunger significantly damages focus and precision in mental prowess. So, make sure you're fed!
3.) Stay hydrated!
Stay hydrated for the very same reasons. Being dehydrated is bad for every part of you, so keep some water nearby!
4.) Have on study music!
Have on a more low-key genre of music for study time if it helps you focus. This isn't for everybody, but it does help me, so maybe you guys will like it too. You have hundreds of study playlist options to choose from on Spotify if you're interested.
5.) Take breaks!
To maintain a healthy mindset, good focus, and all-around the best conditions for studying, take a 5 to 15 minute break every hour to an hour and a half to move around and stretch your muscles, essentially waking up your body and brain so you can keep studying with steady proficiency.
There you go, and good luck!

How I Annotate Non-Fiction Books:
Step one gathering supplies. The supplies you need will be based on your needs and the text you are annotating so feel free to fit this to your need or habits.
For physical books: highlighters, pens, sticky notes, page flags, index cards, the book/document
For digital books: your device or choice (might do an in depth post of digital texts later)
Tumblr media
step two- creating your key
For small documents, I tend to stick to one color (each of my classes are assigned a single color).
For Longer documents, with lots of information, I will create a key for example:
Tumblr media
keys should be based on what information is most important. In my history classes dates and names are more important whereas in a science class terms and chemical formulas may be most important.
You should also keep in mind why you are reading the book/document. For example: Are you reading to write a book report? Then it would be best to highlight the thesis and any points you wish to bring up in your review.
some parts of your key will most likely not need writing down after they become habit, for example after highlighting an important term, I will underline the definition of the term. (I personally tend to under highlight)
very important highlighted text will also get a page flag so that it is easier to find when reviewing, write a review, etc.
Tumblr media
step three- your first read through
break the reading into smaller segments, for example. if you are reading a textbook or information-dense book you may wish to use headings or subheadings as your guide for this. if your text is not already broken into smaller section resign yourself to summarizing after every few paragraphs
You can write your summaries in whatever way suits you, your habits, or the book you are working with.
Tumblr media
For this book I am writing my summaries in index cards, but I could have written them in sticky notes, or in a notebook (physical or digital.) I have tried all of these techniques and I like them all and tend to switch between them.
Tumblr media
On the back of my summary cards, I write the page numbers the information was pulled from so that I can more quickly find the information if I need to quote it.
Feel free to ask questions in the replies or in my asks!

I love the idea of Semele's name meaning "Earth" (not confirmed but widely theorized) and its implications on the birth story of Dionysos
the lightning strikes the seed-rich earth, leaving a scorched patch where nothing seems to live or grow, but with the gestation of the storm clouds a vine emerges from the fertile, blackened soil that then spreads across the landscape
life, death, earth, lightning, zagreus, dionysos

Can someone who understands child brains and development better than me explain why Small Child can make inferences about the text of LotR easily and without me having to prod and assist him, but when he has to do the same thing with much simpler and less complex text for school, he like… can’t? Or won’t?
It’s been a frustrating homeschool day. :p

I think we all need to come together, as a society, and agree that “it’s” is perfectly acceptable to use as a contraction AND a possessive. No more of this “it’s” for contractions and “its” for possessives. Death to “its,” that ugly outlier in the possessives category.

I struggle with TMA/TME (transmisogyny affected/transmisogyny excluded) as terms, not because they don't make sense as a framework, but because when I am experiencing transphobia it is not because someone looks at me and says "ha! you are trying to be a man and doing a bad job at it!"
like I am tall and athletic and I got called a dude and thrown out of women's restrooms long before I transitioned.
(I am nonbinary and after five years am no longer on HRT. my voice and appearance reflect that.)
usually when I am experiencing transphobia it is because someone is assuming I am a trans woman (I am not) and directing their shitty attitudes at me accordingly.
the transphobia I experience is almost always transmisogyny. it doesn't land the way it would if I were in fact transfem but like. I don't know what to do with this in a TMA/TME framework.

hey! just wanted to share a little snippet of my writing. I wrote this for my ap lang class and loved it so much that i thought others might enjoy it too.
“I wish I could suffocate my thoughts and bury them six feet under the cold, hard earth in the same grave I dug three years ago for the unidentifiable skeleton of my emotions. But I can’t seem to do so. Instead, my mind betrays me; it takes the shovel I clutch in my hands and covers me in the ashes of my dignity.”

Thought I'd make a showcase of some of my conlangs, so I'll start with the one I'm working on rn
Or mesako! Jenojarko Ajir gi mo do heni'a'in.
[oɾ mɛsɐˈko] [jɛnojɐˈɾko ɐˈjiɾ ɡiˈ moˈ doˈ hɛniˈʔɐʔin]
Translation: "Hello! My name is Ire and this is my language."
This is Fjatli, or Sfarokchosti [sfɐ.ɾo.k͡xoˈs.ti] if you'd rather use the endonym. It's inspired mostly by the grammar of the Muscogee language but with a good few liberties taken, especially with my use of a German-esque orthography, and in its lore is spoken by an indigenous people who are known for their relationship with luck, their beautiful and intricately styled hair, and their perseverance against all odds
Much like Muscogee, Fjatli is polysynthetic. So words take multiple and often many prefixes and suffixes, so often entire sentences can be contained in just one word (which is actually a help since Fjatli doesn't have any pronouns at all)
Eraba. : Eat.
Erabata. : I eat.
Erabanita. : I am eating.
Anerabanita. : I want to be eating.
Jo'anerabanita. : I want to be eating you.
This is a weird example (and there are certainly more useful examples) but it shows how verbs work in Fjatli. Nouns, adjectives and adverbs operate similarly but aren't as complex (however this is still a WIP so I'm planning on expanding all of them.) I'll show an example of ownership and definiteness in nouns
Fjer : Friend
Cafjer : The friend
Fjerin : My friend
Fjerag : Your friend
Fjerob : Their friend
Fjerimin : Our friend
The main word order for Fjatli is generally VSO whenever other words are needed. So "the animal wants to eat a fruit" would be said in the order of "wants to eat the animal a fruit" similar to Irish, Welsh, Classical Arabic, and many Polynesian languages. Also make sure not to forget subject and object markers, similar to Japanese. Here's a full breakdown
A'aneraba ja cacoxot do t'ano.
[ɐʔɐnɛɾɐˈbɐ jɐˈ t͜͡ʃɐt͜͡soǃoˈt doˈ tʼɐnoˈ]
[It wants to eat it] [sm] [the animal] [om] [fruit].
And you can expand on this by putting indirect objects before the verb. Combine this with Fjatli's verb aspect system that can still give a detailed description of events in time without any tenses at all, and you get my absolute favorite sentence I've translated for this language: "I bleed through my instrument"
Isorogin chonsoho'inerta.
[isoˈɾoɡin xonsohoˈʔinɛɾtɐ]
[My instrument] [I have and often bleed through]
This is what I love so much about polysynthetic languages, like in just two (albeit pretty long) words this language can say something that takes English upwards of eight words to fully convey. Especially since the verb in that last sentence takes advantage of the perfect habitual aspect (where the verb has been completed and will be several times in the future) which can't be easily communicated in English
This was just an introduction to the basics of Fjatli, there's even some stuff in the greeting at the top of this post that I didn't get into so maybe if there's demand I'll make a follow-up that explains more (as a gift to anyone who notices that there's click consonants in this language). I also made a writing system for it and I'm not gonna let anyone live in peace until they've seen it because it's so cool (I say that about all the writing systems I've made)
Or menoko, fjerin!
Edit 1: fixed some glaring spelling mistakes (I wrote this at 4am and I'm not entirely sure it wasn't a fever dream)
Edit 2: finally found out how to do smol text

Sometimes during conversations about the writing community on Twitch, I got some reactions of disbelief that such a thing could even exist on a streaming site focused round video games to begin with.
Since I already noted that the “Writers” category on Twitch often had more activity than the category for one of my favorite video games, “Super Mario Bros.”, I figured I’d record my observations and visualize the results.
Turns out more people are interested in watching other people write than some might expect!
I’ve even had other writers call the validity of my numbers into question, so I gave a detailed explanation HERE for those who are interested.
As for me, I've been streaming video games and train related shows on Twitch since May 2020, but I'm debuting writing content on my stream too, so check my floated post or Twitch channel when it will show up in my schedule!
