December 1977. Given how much Marvel has since pushed Adam Warlock, Thanos, and the Infinity Gems, it's somewhat ironic that Jim Starlin's original Warlock series was rather ignominiously canceled before the story was complete, leaving the conclusion to play out in THE AVENGERS Annual #7 and MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE Annual #2 in the fall of 1977, both magnificently illustrated by Starlin and Joe Rubinstein. Continuing the story into the latter Annual required Starlin to frame his finale as, improbably, a Thing/Spider-Man team-up, but it's Mar-Vell (whose series Starlin had also written and drawn for a while) who delivers the full-page eulogy for Adam Warlock, a minor Kirby character whom Roy Thomas and Starlin had transformed into a tortured cosmic figure, driven by truly existential angst.
Given that Thanos' plot in this story had involved using the combined power of the six Infinity Gems (here still called "Soul Gems") to blow "every star out of the heavens," leaving Adam's vampiric Soul Gem just lying on his grave seems a trifle irresponsible, but at this juncture, Warlock is dead, Thanos has been reduced to a literal monument to his own folly, and none of the survivors understands the full power of the gems. Also, they don't know that the souls of Adam Warlock, Gamora, and Pip the Troll, taken by the Gem before their deaths, now reside in the idyllic landscape of Soul World.

Starlin would subsequently write the end of Mar-Vell in the memorable THE DEATH OF CAPTAIN MARVEL graphic novel in 1982, which returned Thanos as a kind of psychopomp. Alas, Thanos subsequently became too commercially important a villain (in the comics and later in the dreary live-action movies) to ever stay dead or truly learn from his mistakes.

hi, this is so random but can you do a story for bucky barnes from marvel? Like something angsty with him and reader being separated and she's a hydra agent but it's kind of just before infinity war. Like she was frozen too because she was a scientist and seen as a threat but also an asset and now she's like 'the new winter soldier' since he escaped hydra and she doesn't remember him, but then she does?

Everything was so loud. The gunshots, the punches being thrown at you and the ones you were throwing back. You were fighting a teenager in a spider-suit. Somewhere in the back of your head, you knew that was wrong, but you couldn’t even access the memory of your name. Only your orders remained. Get the hard drive.
You had fought your way through Agent Romanoff, Spider-boy, Agent Rhodes, Bird-man, and Bug-man. Next up was Stark and Captain America. The others were either dead or unconscious. 
“You don’t have to do this, let us help you,” the Captain spoke, his shield at the ready. 
“And why would I do that?” You asked, taking your knife from the holster on your waist.
“Because we have Barnes,” Stark cut in. 
“Who the hell is ‘Barnes’?” You spoke, then threw the knife. It hit the Captain before he could dodge and it lodged itself in his arm. He let out a groan of pain and pulled it out, ready to fight again. Stark relied on his suit and attempted blasting you, but you were too quick, jumping out of the way. 
After a long back and forth between you and the two men, Stark got close enough to drug you, and everything went black.

You woke up in a hospital bed with no recollection on how you got there. You rattled against the chains that held your hands, screaming for anyone. After a few hours of yelling, you realised no one was coming, and your body let itself sleep again.
You woke up again, to someone outside your room. 
“You have to let me see her!” A male voice. 
“No way Barnes,” Stark sighed. “She’s too dangerous like this. You’ll either set her off or make her angry-”
“She knows me,” Barnes shot back, cutting Stark off. 
“Oh, you mean the woman who flat out asked who the hell you were, that woman knows you?” Stark snarled. "we have bigger things to deal with, Thanos is coming!"
You stifled a groan at the throbbing pain in your muscles. You clearly had no medication, no IV, nothing.
“I'm well-aware of our current situation Tony. I'm also aware that some part of her knows me!” Barnes argued. “Just… let me see her, please. Even if she’s asleep. Please Tony, she’s my wife.”
Who the fuck was he talking about? 
Reich, Händler, Kohle, Regel, Atmosphäre, Markieren, Strafverfolgung, Haltung, Überfall, allmählich. 
Rich, dealer, coal, rule, atmosphere, mark, law enforcement, attitude, raid, gradually.
They played in your head like a pulsing mantra. You had never been one for speaking Russian, so you had German words. You hated the people that did this to you. The people that tortured you, the people that wiped your memories, the people that broke you. 
“Bucky, you’re going to end up killing yourself over this, don’t bother with her.”
Bucky. Your Bucky. 
Your Bucky was behind that door. Your husband. The man you loved so dearly before you were taken by Hydra. 
“Buck?!” you shouted, clarity pushing the fog in your brain away. You broke through your chains, the strength of the serum making it easy. “Bucky!” You screamed again, trying to get the door open. 
“Y/N?! Doll?!” He shouted back, opening the door. You launched yourself at him, wrapping your arms and legs around his torso in an all-consuming hug. “I thought you were dead,” he whispered into your neck as he hugged you. 
“I thought you’d never find me,” you sobbed into his neck. 
“I’ll always find you, doll,” he promised, holding you tighter. You pulled back a bit, tilting his head so you could kiss him. For the first time in 60 years, you kissed your husband. It felt good. His lips felt the same as they did on your wedding day. Yes, it was a quick wedding in a courthouse in 1942. Yes, most people thought that you were pregnant, or you were using him for army benefits. But none of it was true. You adored each other. You just couldn’t wait. You were so in love with each other.
“I love you,” you grinned against his lips, the kiss tasting of salty tears, though neither of you cared. 
“I love you too.”

Logyn Meta: Loki & Sigyn’s Family in Myth and Marvel (Comparison)

The family that is ready to begin Ragnarok in order to defend your honor. It’s a tragic tale, but family is something worth fighting for!
Follow me as we explore this crazy, wonderful family that is probably the most famous of the Myth’s. 
We may not know much about Sigyn’s side, but Loki’s side is one that legends are made of. 
From the Norse Myths, to Marvel Comics and the MCU, we will see the similarities and differences for each member in the different universes as well as learn facts about each one and why they are important.

Laufey (or Nál) - Loki’s Mother 
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
She is Loki’s Mother in Mythology.
Mostly mentioned by the matronymic, “Loki Laufeyjarson” meaning: Loki Laufey’s Son.
Her name (Laufey) is typically thought to mean leaves/foilage. Nal means Needle. 
Not much is known about her. We don’t even know if she was a Goddess, human or giant so it is assumed Loki gets his godhood from her. 
In the poem Sörla þáttr, Nál and Laufey are portrayed as the same person: "She was both slender and weak, and for that reason she was called Nál [Needle]." 
Laufey is listed among Ásynjar (goddesses) in one of the þulur, an ancestry that perhaps led her son Loki to be "enumerated among the Æsir", as Snorri Sturluson puts it in Gylfaginning.
Related to nature like forests and leaves.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Laufey is Loki’s Father in this universe. 
As Loki was born small, a motive of embarrassment for his parents, his existence was kept a secret.
A younger Loki sends Laufey into a fateful battle between Odin, leading the All-Father to claim Loki as a son. Laufey was left for dead, wounded, but alive, leaving a future Loki to kill him. 
A group of Frost Giants try to revive Laufey by retrieving his skull. It ends with Malekith performing a spell to resurrect King Laufey. 
Laufey hates Loki and thinks of him as a disgrace
It ends with Loki killing his father again after he tries to steal the Casket of Winters and kill Frigga. 
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU)
Same as Marvel Comics Counterpart. Appears in the first Thor movie.

Fárbauti - Loki’s Father
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
He is Loki’s Father in Mythology. 
Attested in the Prose Edda and in Kennings of Viking Age Skalds.
A Jotunn
The Old Norse name Fárbauti has been translated as 'dangerous striker','anger striker',or 'sudden-striker'.
Related to lightning
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Mother of Loki in this universe.
Gave birth to an unusually small child to the annoyance of her husband.
It is said the night Loki was born that she stabbed her own heart with an ice dagger, but Loki suspects Laufey is the one who killed her. 
Appears as a figment taken on by a parasite. She’s mostly deceased in the comics.

Loki Laufeyjarson - Son of Laufey & Farbauti. Lover of Sigyn & Angrboda (and many others honestly)
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Everyone already knows the tales about Loki, so I won’t repeat it all again. It’s pretty lengthy. I’ll just point down the basics for him with it. 
He’s famous for causing trouble among the gods as the Trickster and God of Mischief. Not a bad guy, but misinterpreted that way, although he can be a dick too. Despite how much he causes trouble for them, he also helps them out of situations too. He just wants to have fun, even if he takes it overboard at times.
Some sources put as Jotun and some say he is Half-Jotun, Half-Aesir (on his mother’s side.) 
A well-known Shapeshifter who can be anything: Salmon, Male, Female, Horse. The list just goes on. 
A really handsome being who loved to get it on. *finger guns*
Blood Brother’s with Odin. How? We don’t know. It’s interpreted as a friendship or foster-brothers. It’s unclear really.
Gonna start Ragnarok for valid reasons honestly after having his entire family taken away from him or killed by the Gods. #TeamLoki
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Far too many appearances to document here from 1942 to present. There has been some retcons as well with the fact the current Loki has been reborn in a new incarnation also known as Ikol.
In the comics Loki is the adopted son of Odin and Frigga and Adoptive brother to Thor & Balder. 
He’s depicted as being the God of Evil in the classic comics serval times. In fact, it’s one of his titles. 
Depending on the writer for the classic comics, Loki can have moments of humanity, but all around he causes trouble.
Just wants to rule Asgard and get rid of Thor who is his enemy. 
He’s honestly a bad guy most of the time in the classic comics #VillianTrope
I personally have yet to read any current comics of Loki that aren’t the classics so this is where my knowledge and research stops. 
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU)
First off, Tom Hiddleston as Loki is just *chefs kiss* perfection. 
Pretty much the same as comics except for the fact he isn’t really a villain. He plays tricks on people for fun and laughs and truly cares about his family. 
However, things change when he discovers the truth that he is a Jotun and has been lied to about it his whole life despite being told countless stories of how Jotun’s are monsters to be slain (You fucked up a perfectly good kid, Odin. Look, he has anxiety and trauma.) 
He develops major identity problems on top of others things, but despite it, Loki tries to still do best by his family as he wants to belong. Yes, he becomes a villain in The Avengers movie, but not for the hell of it. #Thanos
Honestly, he just deserves better. That’s where this leads. Thank you.

Angrboda - Loki’s Consort/Lover (Fenrir, Jormungandr & Hel’s Mother)
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
She is only mentioned once in the Poetic Edda as the mother of Fenrir by Loki. The Prose Edda describes her as "a giantess in Jotunheim" and as the mother of three monsters: the wolf Fenrir, the Midgard serpent Jörmungand, and the ruler of the dead Hel.
A Jotun known as Mother of Monsters and Giantess of Ironwood. 
In Old Norse, Angrboda means: 'the one who brings grief', 'she-who-offers-sorrow', or 'harm-bidder'.
According to scholars, the name Angrboða is probably a late invention dating from no earlier than the 12th century, although the tradition of the three monsters born of Loki and a jötunn may be of a higher age.
Some scholars say she was a very powerful witch and that she had the ability to see into the future. She was confined to Hel and would not be released from the realm of the dead until Loki was unbound.
In some versions of the Myth’s she knows her children will bring about the end of the world (Ragnarok) as well as being a witch set on fire three times before Loki eats her heart. 
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
A giantess of Jotunheim and a Witch.
Born to Elderspawn Vârcolac and Echidna.
She mated with Loki and gave birth to Fenrir and Jormungadr. Legends say she also gave birth to Hela, but it seems to be nothing more but legends. 
Angrboda died of unknown causes and was sent to the Underworld of Hel. 
When Thor needed to know how to get to Hela's realm because she had been taking mortals to Niffleheim, he went to the Hlidskjalf and summoned Angerboda from the underworld, forcing her to tell him how to get there. Once she revealed to Thor the path he had to follow, she tried to take him with her to the underworld.
Only has one appearance in the comics -- Thor #360 (1985)

Sleipnir - Loki’s Son
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Attested in the Poetic and Prose Edda. In both Sleipnir is Odin's eight-legged steed and child of Loki by Svaðilfari. He is described as the best of all horses.
The Prose Edda contains extra information saying he is grey. 
Old Norse meaning: Slippy or the Slipper. 
Sleipnir is also mentioned in a riddle found in the 13th century legendary saga Hervarar saga ok Heiðreks, in the 13th-century legendary saga Völsunga saga as the ancestor of the horse Grani, and book I of Gesta Danorum, written in the 12th century by Saxo Grammaticus, contains an episode considered by many scholars to involve Sleipnir. Sleipnir is generally accepted as depicted on two 8th century Gotlandic image stones: the Tjängvide image stone and the Ardre VIII image stone.
Scholarly theories have been proposed regarding Sleipnir's potential connection to shamanic practices among the Norse pagans.
Sleipnir was born when Loki shape-shifted into a mare and became pregnant by the stallion of a giant, as is recounted in the tale of The Fortification of Asgard.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
There are two different origins for Sleipnir in the comics: 1. Thor fighting off an army of the undead on Midgard. He promised to help as long as his horses weren’t eaten, however, Thor was betrayed and took his horses remains back to Asgard, coupling it with Asgardian Magic to create Sleipneir. 2. Loki had hastily agreed to let a Frost Giant re-build the wall around Asgard, in exchange for the Moon, the Sun, and Freya, only he had to do it in six months. The Frost Giant had only asked to use his grey stallion, Svadilfari. Right as the last brick was about to be placed, Loki transformed into a beautiful white mare, and lured Svadilfari off. Loki later gave birth to Sleipnir. (Just like in the Myths.) 
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU)
Odin’s eight-legged steed. 
Sleipnir’s origins are unknown. He appears in the first Thor Movie.

Fenrir Wolf - Loki & Angrboda’s Son
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Attested in the Prose and Poetic Edda as the first son of the Jotun couple. He is a wolf destined to kill Odin. So, they bind and seal him when he's still young, with Tyr losing his arm in the process. When Ragnarok comes, he indeed kills Odin, but is killed by Odin's son Vidar in return.
Fenrir is the father of the wolves Sköll and Hati Hróðvitnisson. 
In the Prose Edda, additional information is given about Fenrir, including that, due to the gods' knowledge of prophecies foretelling great trouble from Fenrir and his rapid growth, the gods bound him, and as a result Fenrir bit off the right hand of the god Týr.
No chain can hold him, except for Gleipnir, a rope made by Dwarves containing the roots of a mountain, the breath of a fish, the sound of a cat's footfall, the sinews of a bear, the beard of a woman and the spittle of a bird, all of which were impossible items to obtain.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Pretty much the same as his Mythos with some additional storylines. 
When Raganrok happened, Fenrir was reborn with the other gods on the New Asgard universe on Midgard. No details of his fate on Earth have been revealed.
Fenrir helped the mutant Wolfsbane as she was carrying the child of one of his descendants. 
It is one of the few individuals believed to be more powerful, or equally as powerful, as Dormammu; the others being galactic entities like The Beyonder.
Fenrir is Genderfluid in the comics. 
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU)
Fenris is a giant Asgardian Wolf who serves under Hela and is portrayed as Female. She resurrects her as they take over Asgard. 
Instead of being her brother, Fenris is her loyal companion and mount. 
Fenris ends up getting into a fight against Hulk as he pushes her off, sending her falling into the void below to her supposed death. 
Appears in Thor: Ragnarok.

Hel - Loki & Angrboda’s Daughter
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Attested in the Prose and Poetic Edda. She is a giantess/goddess who resides over the Underworld that is also called Hel, a place where many of the dead reside. She is the daughter of Loki and Angrboda, sister to Fenrir and Jormungandr and usually depicted as the youngest of the three.
Goddess of Death and Graves and ruler of Hel who welcomes the souls of those who died of old age, disease or by accident.
Hel is described as having been appointed by the god Odin as ruler of a realm of the same name, located in Niflheim.
The Prose Edda details that Hel rules over vast mansions with many servants in her underworld realm and plays a key role in the attempted resurrection of the god Baldr.
Old Norse Name Meaning: Hidden
She’s mostly mentioned only in passing. Snorri describes her appearance as being half-black, half-white, and with a perpetually grim and fierce expression on her face.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Renamed Hela in the comics.
Allegedly the daughter of Loki and Angrboda, but it’s never made clear or stated. Hela's genealogy is the subject of controversies and retellings. 
Her path pretty much follows her Mythos where she is destined to do terrible things and Odin makes her the ruler over the dead in the realms of Hel and Niflheim until maturity. 
At some point, she was considered the daughter of Odin and of a long-lost goddess.
Honestly, she usually tries to expand her powers, wanting to rule over Vahalla and obtain Asgardian souls. 
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU):
Appears in Thor: Ragnarok as Odin’s firstborn and only daughter. Sister to Thor and Loki.
Kinda pissed her dad locked her away and wants to rule Asgard and take revenge.
The cause of Ragnarok and supposedly dies on Asgard after everything is said in done in the movie.

Jormungandr - Loki & Angrboda’s Son
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Usually depicted as the middle child of Loki and Angrboda, he is known as the Midgard Serpent or World Serpent who is a giant snake. When Odin takes Loki’s kids away from him, he tosses Jormungadr into the ocean that encircles Midgard. The serpent grew so large that is was able to surround the Earth and grasp it’s own tail. When it releases it’s tail, Ragnarok will begin and he will fight his arch-enemy, Thor. 
The major sources for myths about Jörmungandr are the Prose Edda, the skaldic poem Húsdrápa, and the Eddic poems Hymiskviða and Völuspá. Other sources include the early skaldic poem Ragnarsdrápa and kennings in other skaldic poems; for example, in Þórsdrápa, faðir lögseims, "father of the sea-thread", is used as a kenning for Loki. There are also several image stones depicting the story of Thor fishing for Jörmungandr.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Both Loki and Angerboda were descended from the Frost Giants of Jotunheim and were of humanoid appearance; however, the sons Angerboda bore Loki, Jormungand and the Fenris Wolf, did not. It has been suggested that Jormungand and the Fenris Wolf were born as sentient animals because their parents each had the magical ability to change his or her own shape. Hence, Jormungand and the Fenris Wolf each bear the form of the animal that their parents had assumed at the moment they were conceived.
Jormungandr follows the same as his Mythos to a certain degree with his fate to fight Thor during Ragnarok as the God of Thunder would die from his venom.

Sigyn - Loki’s Wife
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Sadly, not many stories that have Sigyn in them have survived to this day. She is only attested in the followings works: Poetic Edda & Prose Edda. 
The most famous of her story tells of how Loki has been bound by the gods with the guts of his son, Nari, and how his son, Vari, has been turned into a wolf. The Goddess Skadi fastens a venomous snake over Loki’s face, from which venom drips. Sigyn, stated as Loki’s wife, stays by his side and holds a basin under and catches the venom so it won’t drip onto her husband, but when the basin grows full, she pulls it away to empty it, during which time venom drops onto Loki, causing him to wither so violently that earthquakes occur that shake the entire earth.
In the poem, Gylfaginning, Sigyn is introduced in Chapter 31 as being married to Loki and that they have a son by the name of “Narfi or Nari”. She is then mentioned again in Chapter 50 where events are described differently than in Lokasenna; Vali, described as a son of Loki only, is changed into a wolf by the gods and rips apart his brother, “Narfi or Nari.” The guts of Nari are then used to tie Loki to three stones, after which the guts turn to iron, and Skadi places a snake above Loki. Sigyn of course catches the venom in a bowl. This process is repeated until he breaks free, setting Ragnarok into motion.
In the poem, Skáldskaparmál, Sigyn is introduced as a goddess, an Æsir, where the gods are holding a feast for their visitors and in kennings for Loki: “husband of Sigyn” and “cargo [Loki] of incantation-fetter’s [Sigyn’s] arms.”
Old Norse Name meaning: Victory Girlfriend. 
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Lonely and looking for female companionship, Loki ends up coming across Sigyn and plans to make her his. However, she is already engaged to a warrior of Odin’s Crimson Hawks -- Theoric. Hence, Loki sets up a trap to have Theoric killed during a mission so Loki can disguise himself as Theoric. Once they are wed, Loki reveals himself and despite Odin attempting to annul the marriage (which goes against Asgardian Law)), Sigyn tells the Allfather that she will follow the duties of a loyal wife since she is Loki’s now. 
This is when Odin proclaims her to be the Goddess of Fidelity. This was a thing first started by the Marvel Comics.
Sigyn doesn’t have much of an agency in the comics except being a loyal wife to Loki, sometimes going along with his plans or getting on him for it. 
I personally haven’t been able to find any evidence of Sigyn’s parents being Iwaldi and Freya in the comics, so I’m not sure if this fact is Fanon or not. 
Sigyn has suddenly seemed to vanish from the comics with her last official appearance being in 1996. It has been allueded at that she died or was killed during Ragnarok. 
Her relationship with Loki in the comics is...complicated and changes a lot depending on the writer.

Narvi/Narfi & Vali - Loki & Sigyn’s Sons
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Not much is known about Narfi and Vali except for being Loki & Sigyn’s sons with Vali being transformed into a wolf by the gods and killing his brother whose inners are used as a chain to bind Loki in the cave. 
Narfi and Vali are referred to in a number of sources. According to the Gylfaginning section of Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda, he was also called Nari and was killed by his brother Váli, who was transformed into a wolf; in a prose passage at the end of the Eddic poem "Lokasenna", Váli became a wolf and his brother Nari was killed.
Snorri also names "Nari or Narfi" as the son of Loki and his wife Sigyn earlier in Gylfaginning, and lists "father of Nari" as a heiti for Loki in the Skáldskaparmál section of his work.
Narfi’s name could mean “Corpse” in Old Norse, relating to how he was killed by his brother. 
There's no mention of what became of Vali after he became a wolf.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Narvi never makes an appearance in the comics and is only mentioned in: Free Comics Book Day Vol 2018 Avengers. 
There is a Vali in the comics called Vali Halfling. He is the son of loki and a unnamed mortal woman. So, I don’t consider this to be the same Vali that is the son of Loki and Sigyn.

I tried my best to cover everything I knew about them in Marvel too, but sometimes so many retcons is too much to keep up with. I know there may be some errors in places, but it’s the best I could get this with what we have to work with.

So I was talking about Loki in this post and I said a thing and now I have over 8k words written for two WIPs based on my recent conversations with Lotus. Both stories assume that locking down his magic while he was still healing from that Hulk Smash was the worst possible thing for his physical and/or mental health and that's why he acts so differently in the series vs the movies. Here is one ready for the eyes of the world.
A Fresh Start - Part 1 (of 3?)
A canon-compliant happy ending of a sort for Loki, framed as him remembering things while soaking in a bathtub and doing all the self-care he deserves after the shit he has been through. 2,316 words
It took far longer than Loki was comfortable admitting, but he had managed to get everything he wanted. Well, for a certain definition of everything. He took a sip of fine Elven wine and then leaned back in the bath, letting the past weeks… Months? Years? It didn’t matter. It was over now, all properly behind him. Time worked differently in the TVA, and his body hadn’t aged a day since he was first picked up by Hunter B-15. The preservative effects would wear off in a year or so, which was just fine.
It took time to explain the Sacred Timeline to the Mobius he met after Sylvie’s betrayal. Well, betrayal was harsh. One had to have trust in the first place in order to be betrayed, and there had never been a moment in their acquaintance where the non-Loki Loki variant had trusted him with anything. She let him do a few things when they were functionally identical to what she had already planned to do and mocked him while he did them. That wasn’t trust, he deserved better, and he needed to remember that.
Sorting out the inside of his head had been a high priority after the confrontation with He Who Remains, and Loki had managed a great deal, but he still found himself in need of it from time to time. Perhaps he always would. Perhaps he always had and part of why he went mad was a lack of it. Part of why it took so long to get his head straight was that he couldn’t use the magical techniques he was more familiar with all that often. Magic didn’t work in the TVA as a general rule, but he made the mistake of thinking it deactivated all spells when it actually consumed the magical energy outright. The protections in his mind that he had built, responses to the likes of Amora and The Other, had been in tatters after the whole Mind Stone Scepter situation. The TVA had not been kind to him while hunting Sylvie by any stretch of the imagination, but he couldn’t fault their basic hospitality. Physically, he had enjoyed plenty of rest and good food while he was useful to them. Loki had mistakenly thought that this would allow his mental protections to heal along with his body even if he could not access them at the moment.
This was true for the mundane aspects of his mental health but not the magical ones. He was under a lot of stress in a hostile environment, but it was better than living under Thanos’ rule and Mobius encouraged him to think about the things that had driven him to attempted suicide in a way that was… Not helpful, necessarily, but at least accidentally more healthy. Somewhat more objective, perhaps. It wasn’t something he would have done if anyone had bothered to give him specifics about where this variant came from and how she differed from him. Still, the TVA offered him something that had been an unobtainable luxury for some time: quiet hours to reflect with no physical discomfort or distractions. He couldn’t even use his illusions to amuse himself in the evenings. It was just the four blank walls in a drab suite that looked nothing like the prison he knew it to be and the contents of his own mind. He certainly wasn’t lacking in traumatic memories to process.
The second Mobius he met was more deliberately helpful, and he would miss his friend now that they parted ways. He could see now that his relationship with that first Mobius, who had likely ceased to exist when the version of the TVA tied to the life of He Who Remained was consumed by Alioth, had started in a rather problematic way. The second attempt was free of that terrible start, and he would cherish the memory of both times that easy friendship grew between them. It reminded him that he did have good qualities, and just because Thor’s friends didn’t appreciate his charm that didn’t mean nobody did. He’d even gotten on good terms with a few of the other agents after a while. Perhaps Thor was right, in a broken clock sort of way, and he did spend too much time alone in his rooms. Surely there were some others out of all the people in Asgard who could be his friends.
After, and he was fairly certain his life would forever be divided into before he knew of the Time Variance Authority and after the death of He Who Remains, he had even more time to process. Loki’s information about He Who Remains and his fate was considered highly valuable. The “Sector” of the TVA he landed in treated him well and was glad for his presence. He met that sector’s Kang briefly. A ruthless man far too serious, or perhaps simply too sane, to be recognizable if he hadn’t had the same face and voice. Kang spoke of small closed systems, groups of very few timelines kept carefully trimmed that were cut off from the larger and more complicated webs and how he’d never thought of binding one of them into a loop. It wasn’t something that particular Kang thought possible for his domain for a number of reasons, most of which he didn’t speak directly about, but it was information he thought he could use against other variants of himself. What more effective trap was there, than the one you built for yourself?
It was possible Kang used that same tactic on Loki to a certain extent, but it seemed that no matter how often he said it or how much he meant it no one would ever believe that Loki didn’t want a throne.
In any case, it was only once he’d gotten some downtime outside the TVA (at a beach just before a meteor strike where Mobius could ride a jet ski and Loki could enjoy the sand and all the beautiful people in skimpy clothing for a few hours) that he was able to notice the state of his seidr. He was a wreck of tattered and torn magic, and Mobius helped him set up the chance to have all the detritus removed from his person properly. He did it in isolation on an uninhabited planet as the older version of himself had done, ensuring he didn’t make a new branch of reality as he purged and recovered. It left him blue for the week it took his magical core to recover, but even that horror had some value in the sense that he had to confront his natural biology and learned something about his inborn abilities. Not that he ever planned on living in that form for an extended time again, but at least he could put on the skin he was born with without wanting to peel it off with a knife.
Progress, Mobius called it. Loki preferred the word unnecessary. He might appreciate that the Jotun people were not divided into separate male and female forms for the simplicity of not having to deal with strict gender roles in social situations, but as a changeling he had no need of becoming intersex full time to express himself accurately. If he felt feminine or masculine he’d be feminine or masculine in a skin that felt like his own, and would not change his body in ways he didn’t want to. When he thought of himself there were certain physical features that were his own, just as those who couldn’t shift their form knew their own limbs and shape. His gray-blue eyes that changed with the light in the room, the long legs and general body size, his hands, his dark hair… not that the physical was what made him who he was, but who he was wasn’t Jotun. Not culturally, as he had only a vague idea of what life on that planet was like. The blue skin on his hands was distracting because of the novelty, the tribal lines meant nothing to him, he never got used to the glow from his eyes casting shadows at night. Like clothes in a strange style that don’t properly fit, he disliked wearing that skin. He was glad that his dark hair and the general shape of himself remained while he was forced into the skin he was born in; he could still recognize his own face in a black and white photograph. He didn’t know why he kept that photograph, Mobius had babbled a bunch of nonsense at him when he gave it to Loki, but he did keep it. He didn’t keep much from his time working with the TVA, and he happily burned one of his TVA uniforms when he was finally able to replace his lost leather armor, but he had a few things. He was reasonably certain nobody knew that one of those things was a fully charged tempad. He hoped he would never need it, but best to be over-prepared than caught off guard.
He found Sylvie mostly to see if she made it out alright, but she didn’t want anything more to do with him that wasn’t a tumble in the sheets. Perhaps it was the recent reminder of his tryst with Sif, but a purely physical relationship with someone who didn’t value him anymore wasn’t palatable. Neither of them had valued him much to start with, really, he was just convenient. He left her in the company of Renslayer and rather uncharitably thought they deserved the dysfunctional relationship they had. Sylvie was right: she wasn’t him. She’d managed to become more like Thor than any other Loki variant he had ever met (and he’d met quite a few while looking for her) despite the lack of sibling rivalry to push her into a contest with the oaf. Thor was quite adept at getting people to do things for him while not paying any attention at all to their needs, and she had that down perfectly. Perhaps that was why her timeline was pruned, it had a Thor and Loki who had swapped personalities and they wouldn’t be able to fulfill their destiny properly.
Loki took a deep breath, savoring the perfumed air and lazily running his hands through the warm bathwater. He’d managed to get what he really wanted, and none of these things mattered anymore beyond idle thoughts and theoretical argument. The Sacred Timeline was a world tree made sick through over-pruning, but it was a cutting from a much larger tree. Yggdrasil - the TVA could call this part of the multiverse by whatever alphanumeric code they wanted, his world tree was named Yggdrasil - was an enormous and unfathomably complex garden of thriving worlds based on a very strong foundation. This branch was slated for pruning after an ‘essential element’ was lost, meaning a chain of events that was necessary to maintain the health of the branch would never occur. In particular, Thanos would easily assemble all of the infinity stones, make his snap with ease, and since it was so simple he would stick around to watch his glorious vision unfold instead of going into retirement on some backwater world. Whenever Thanos became aware that the people of the universe suffer greater strife and resent his actions instead of being deliriously happy about the loss of half of all sentient life while still in possession of the infinity stones, he destroyed that branch of reality using the stones. It was a null condition, and pruning those branches of the world tree was far better than letting them rot and breed horrors.
The essential element missing was Loki himself. In this branch, his idiotic counterpart had gone in person to Jotunheim without disguising himself instead of using the black market smugglers who ignored the trade embargo of Jotunheim to deliver a letter. He died, a group of Jotun bandits killed him and presented the corpse, which had reverted to its natural form, to Laufey. Then they died, executed for killing their King’s kin. Apparently, Laufey cared enough for vengeance even if he only claimed him as kin and not son. Who could have guessed? Loki simply stepped into this timeline to fill the vacant space.
Was it the ideal time and place to rejoin his timeline? Certainly not. The reason the timeline was available to him was that he needed to botch the invasion of Midgard. Without him a more competent or willing scout would be chosen, or else Thanos would keep the Mind Stone and come to Midgard directly instead of gambling one stone to get two more. Loki had to fall into the void in the appointed manner, which was a high price to pay to get his life back, but if it meant retirement from his job as a TVA analyst he would take it.
There was some slight confusion on the icy king’s face when Loki appeared, hale and whole, when Thor journeyed to Jotunheim to inquire about the disturbance at his coronation. On a whim, he’d used the rudimentary skill he had in ice magic to scrawl “This Laufeyson is not that easy to kill” on the ground next to the corpse of the soldier who grabbed his arm. He berated himself for his self-sabotage later on, unable to comprehend why he cared about killing the person who abandoned him at birth and torn as to how he would manage to fall from the Bifrost after ending the war with Jotunheim without killing his birth family. Shouting at Odin was just plain cathartic, and his expectation that he would be coherent enough to make better arguments was entirely too optimistic. The simplistic answers were beyond frustrating and even though he didn’t scream as much this time, Odin still reacted to his accusation by falling into The Sleep. The Eternals are a race of genetically enhanced superhumans living secretly on Earth. They were born 5 million years ago as a result of the experiments of powerful celestials. Endowed with incredible superpowers, for millennia they hid from human civilization, secretly protecting people from monstrous deviants. However, the recent events and actions of Thanos have forced them to come to light.
Let it be clear that Zhao didn't have an easy task with this movie. Eternals introduces ten new superheroes to the series, and she had to give each hero a certain amount of development to make the audience care. This is an almost impossible mission to accomplish, and Zhao does his best. Surprisingly, much of this works, as each hero stands out, in part due to the diversity of the cast, featuring different races, genders, sexual orientations and even featuring Makkari, played by Lauren Ridloff, a real-life deaf actress. This is an achievement for diversity in cinema, but each character also has a unique set of powers and, in the final act, the characters are making choices that say a lot about who they are and how different some of them might be. However, the film has so much construction of worlds and characters that the script stumbles from time to time. The film follows two stories, one that takes place centuries ago and the other that takes place after Endgame. Non-linear narrative has been used in superhero movies such as Batman Begins. The problem is that Eternals has so many characters that juggling each new face with a story told out of order prevents certain character moments from having the emotional depth they deserve. However, the film has some outstanding performances from its cast that make each character stand out. Sersi (Gemma Chan) and Ikaris (Richard Madden) have an investment relationship that is the heart and soul of the film. Kumail Nanjiani steals the show as Kingo, and his subplot around a documentary filmmaker is the film's highlight, allowing for a perfectly timed mood. RELATED: Marvel Studios Eternals Clip Introduces Kumail Nanjiani as a Bollywood Star The film mixes its standard “bring the band back together” storyline with vast visuals and high stakes, resulting in a film that generally works but also feels like it's biting off more than it can chew. Despite the novelty of a film that tackles such rich themes and doesn't seem comical at all, the final act of the film still morphs into a bunch of people in funny costumes battling CGI and green screens. Marvel's formula that seems largely absent from the film infiltrates Zhao's vision from time to time to create a film that looks like a huge, flawed spectacle. Many expected a highly acclaimed director like Chloé Zhao to direct a Marvel movie. Unfortunately, this movie isn't the beautiful marriage of two beloved icons we'd expect. It has its messy moments and compared to the other MCU work this year, this one might be the weakest of them all. However, there is much to appreciate and respect in Zhao's artistic choices. Each visual, combined with Ramin Djawadi's chilling soundtrack, creates a superhero movie for the ages that may be low-level MCU, but remain a powerful and entertaining cinema that will polarize audiences. This is an ambitious and exciting film that misses the mark, but remains on par with what we've seen in a successful movie franchise. There is a general rule among comic book fans when it comes to the ethos differences between Marvel and DC. Marvel tends to be (comparatively) more grounded and focused on ordinary people placed in extraordinary circumstances that show their inner hero, while DC is grander and highlights characters who purport to be role models for humanity. The failure to relate to vs. the ideal to aspire to. Not that any one company has a monopoly on either approach, but as an overview, it can help explain how each company approaches the superhero idea. It might also help explain why Eternals, the latest MCU release, looks so different from almost every other Marvel movie or TV show. The film itself seems to be aware of the differences it's morphing from, openly comparing one of its main characters to one of DC's biggest names (and for the more geek-inclined, there are other analogues to be found among the main cast. ). But rather than feeling like Marvel is trying to pull it off the competitor's plate, it makes sense as to how the original Eternals came about, with writer/artist Jack Kirby using many of the same building blocks that were used in his New Gods - starring in the Fourth World epic.

Christmas Eve - At Peace
That holiday-themed story that I will totally blame @superherotiger for making me procrastinate with ;)

Just a couple of months after they defeated Thanos, Tony and Pepper throw a Christmas party. Instead of a partying kid, Tony finds his Spiderling outside in the snow at the grave he has been trying to ignore ever exists.
I'm using my own Fix-it to Endgame "Like You'd know how it works" as a basis for the timeline, though the prompt will work fine without having read that story. The important part is, that Tony's not dead.
Baseline: circa 5 months after Tony is brought back from the multiverse.

The sky above him was clear. No clouds. No moon. Above him only the stars. The stars, he still avoided looking at too much. It made the night a little colder, a little darker despite the white snowy blanket covering the hills and trees.
It wasn't that Tony minded the solitude, quite the opposite. That had been the idea behind moving out to the cabin after all. Peace and quiet. Less exposure. Privacy. But of all the places on their property, why did the kid have to go there?
In all fairness, there was nothing quiet or peaceful about what was going on at Tony's house right now. There were 13 people gathered in his living room and kitchen, one of them a black-eyed alien who didn't quite understand the concept of Christmas but had been positively eager to experience all the "merriment and joy" that the little Madame Secretary had been promising from afar. Leave it to Tony to have to explain a spaceship landing in his backyard on Christmas Eve and talk down an international response.
"Morgan said it's an important gathering that every family member is obligated to attend." Nebula's eyes were on Tony, unblinking. "You should have told me sooner. I could have been here last year and the year before but I didn't know."
"Not to worry, Smurfette." There was a sense of genuine joy at seeing her again, that let the smile on his lips come quite easily. "You're here now, so that's that."
It was a sight to be seen how willingly the blue meanie allowed Morgan to put a party hat on her before she was sent off to mingle with the rest of them, studying the mini hot dogs on her plate. That hadn't been the only surprising sight of the evening though. Tony's jaw had equally popped with stunned surprise as he opened the door to a paler and distinctly shorter human version of Bruce Banner. A face Tony hadn't seen on him in years, as he showed up on his doorstep accompanied by a certain master spy that Tony had frankly not been expecting either.
"Making things work then," Tony mused out loud as he hovered next to them while Pepper fetched a welcoming drink.
Bruce cleared his throat. "Just... you know... happy to... to have her back."
"Of course." His head bobbed a short nod with a sincere smile in Natasha's direction. There was no denying that Tony, too, was glad to have her back. Retired or not, he had no illusions that the Avengers would remain anything but a constant in his life one way or another and while Natasha might never be a definite number on his side, she was an ally. Of sorts.
"Well, it's good to see you guys. I know it's quite a drive out here and we had suspected things might be a little more entertaining at the Compound." His thoughts still trailing a little behind, the words had slipped off his tongue before his brain could catch up with what he was saying. He hadn't meant to just straight up mention the Compound, the rest of the team by extension who hadn't received an invite to this particular gathering.
Pepper had wanted to discuss the guest list more than once. Had asked him repeatedly if he wanted to extend an invitation to the others, the team... but Rogers... Steve... no. Christmas was for family and while Bruce and his plus one did count - because Tony wanted him to count - Steve... Steve was not family. When it came down to it, they were hardly even friends. Natasha's eyes were on him and Tony was painfully aware that he was spacing out. No glasses to hide his face, all of a sudden he felt almost too exposed in his own house.
"Oh, we're just splitting the time equally over the holidays." Natasha smiled brightly. "Christmas Eve with one side of the family and then Christmas Day with the other."
Bruce's face fell a little, looking back and forth between them. "It's not sides as much as... just..."
They were saved from more awkwardness as Pepper arrived with the drinks and ushered them further into the house. Bruce was happy to follow along but Natasha hung back, her eyes still on Tony.
"There don't have to be any sides in this." She linked their arms, pushing Tony along, as Bruce shot a glance back at them, just out of earshot. "You can just decide to let it go, Tony."
"I did." It wasn't all that easy to keep the tone light but he was determined not to let this get to him. "I told him, I moved on from all of this years ago."
"We both know that's not the same as solving the real problem." Her voice was low but not unkind. "We both know you never forgave or forget, that he has never earned back your trust."
It didn't matter. He didn't even want to think about how much of that was or wasn't true. Rogers had no place in his thoughts tonight. So the timing was perfect when his eyes came to rest on a brown-haired boy who was creeping closer and closer to the pot of mulled wine. With a lame excuse, he pulled away from Natasha, away from the world he had officially retired from towards the buffet.
"And what do you think you're doing?"
"Me?" The boy's eyes were wide, the cup in his hand already filled to the brim.
"Listen here, squirrel!" His finger poking against Harley's chest, Tony could at least pretend that this was a situation he could actually control. "You take your grabby hands off that mulled wine or so help me..." He snatched the hot drink out of the boy's hands.
"Oh, come on..." His long lashes were blinking at Tony with feigned innocence. "It's not for me."
"That routine might work on some indifferent cater waiter at those benefits but if you think I can't see past your ridiculously lazy—"
"Yeah, yeah..." Harley just waved him off. "Don't be such a killjoy!"
Tony narrowed his eyes at him. "I mean it!" For good measure, he took a healthy gulp from the cup, positively burning his throat in the process. But it wasn't until Harley threw his hands in the air and turned his back in defeat - for now - that Tony allowed his face to cringe at the sting. Those little trouble makers were not helping with his heart condition. Speaking of trouble... "Where is Peter?"
Harley crossed his arms in front of himself, his mind clearly brooding on a new strategy. "No clue."
Tony's next sip of the hot wine was a lot smoother than the first. "What do you mean, no clue?"
"It generally means that the person doesn't have any information about the subject that you are—"
"Alright, short stuff..." Tony's eyes were searching the room but the little spider was nowhere to be seen. "A bit less of the asshole routine please?"
"Listen, if you want me to babysit, same rules apply as they do for Morgan." Brazen in his brattiness, the little shit ladled a good helping of mulled wine into a new cup. "I'll need a heads-up and generous compensation that I'm happy to re-negoti— Hey!"
Harley tried to hold on to the cup that Tony once again just plucked from his hands. "You've had enough of this!"
"That one is for Rhodey," the boy scowled.
"Uh-huh. Sure. I'll get it to him and you can enjoy your night without any errands, hm?"
Tony made a point to stare at the kid until he huffed and finally skedaddled away from the wine pot, possibly in search of his sister, or maybe more likely trying to stay out of her and Morgan's way. Careful not to spill either of the two cups, Tony made his way across the room towards Rhodey who had brought a "friend", a development Tony had been mindful not to comment on all night.
The Colonel's eyes looked him up and down as he made a beeline towards them. "Because one is never enough with you, is it, Tones?"
"You..." he hissed, his lips pursed. "You better not try to quip with me, you enabler!" Tony pushed the second cup he was holding into Carol Danvers' hands instead of Rhodey's. "Are you seriously letting my boy use you as an exit strategy to score a buzz?"
Rhodey's eyes shifted to the cup in his "friend" Carol's hands before he nipped on what was left in his own cup and then gave a shrug. "Which one?"
"That's not funny!"
With a deep sigh, Rhodey exchanged his empty cup with Carol's hot one. "Tony, you need to lay off the mother-hen vibes. The boy is 21 years old, as for Peter—."
"No, he's not," Tony growled. "Not for another 6 days!"
"Geez, daddy, do I really have to remind you how old you were when I 'enabled'," Rhodey air-quoted, "your ass in college?"
He said it like he had a point when that was exactly what Tony was afraid of. "And how did that turn out?"
His eyebrows pulled up, Rhodey made a gesture like that would somehow prove something, but Tony was not in the mood for semantics. His eyes roamed across the room - pointedly ignoring Harley who tried to usher Nebula closer and closer to the pot of hot wine - in search of the other little trouble maker.
Where was the kid? He hadn't seen him since... since he had ducked away from awkwardly shuffling his feet back and forth between May and Happy. Without another word, Tony strode past his friend, checking the kitchen but there was no Peter in there either. Everyone else was happily chatting, eating, enjoying themselves exactly like they were supposed to. Not so the Spiderling.
For a few more minutes, Tony quietly, discreetly wandered around the house. He had a feeling, a feeling that something was up. It didn't take long for him to give up the pretense and outright mutter to FRIDAY, asking in which room Peter was hiding.
"He's not in the house, boss." 
That was how Tony found himself outside, stalking up a snowy hill in the dark. The wind was icy, but it wasn't the cold that made the hair on the back of his neck stand tall. He had avoided this for months. Had avoided even thinking about that spot on the hill where his other-dimensional self had been buried before he ever made it to this timeline. With how loudly his brain was rattling, there was a part of him that couldn't deny that right about now, he appreciated the silence in the dark. They were so far away from what people would call the 'civilized' world out here. Surely, with Peter's senses constantly strained in the city, that was the basic appeal to him as well.
It was also how Peter had heard him coming before Tony even had the chance to call out to him.
"How did you find me?"
A little winded from the slippery ascend to the hilltop, Tony paused a couple of steps behind where the boy was sitting in the snow. "Oh, come on... It's me."
Peter pursed his lips, refusing to turn his head. "So, you questioned every single person at the house about when they had seen me last and then calculated the radius of how far I might have come?"
Tony only blew out a huff.
"Ah," Peter exclaimed and pulled his phone out of his pocket. "Tracking me after all, aren't you."
"Well, duh." Slowly, Tony came closer until he sank to the ground right next to the boy. "Not that I needed it. You're a Spiderling, not an Elf, kid."
"Right." Peter grimaced to himself. "Footprints."
"I keep telling you. Gotta learn how to fly."
The smile that tucked on Peter's lips seemed genuine this time. "You didn't have to come out here."
All of a sudden, Tony contemplated that the boy may have picked this particular spot not because of what it meant to him, but because he had been sure that of all the places, few of the people staying at the house that night would voluntarily wander up here. Tony least of all. There was no denying that the kid had picked up on how much this all freaked Tony out, the fact that there was a dead version of himself buried so close to where he still lived. Silence hung heavy between them before Tony's voice echoed a little quieter, a little hesitant.
"I wasn't sure if I should, but..." He swallowed hard. "I can leave if you want to be alone." 
There was another pause. Wanting to give him room to speak if that was what he wanted, Tony waited but the kid didn't say a thing.
With a shaky exhale, Tony kept his eyes on him. "But then I thought, I'd rather have you send me back than not be here if... if you would need me."
The kid's eyes were still staring straight ahead at the headstone in front of them.
"I know, I'm not him—"
"Of course you are," Peter breathed quietly.
Tony lowered his gaze, faltering. Maybe. "Not really though."
The kid's lip was caught between his teeth, refusing to look over at him. "In... in every way that matters."
"If you want to talk about it—"
"I don't," Peter mumbled.
It had been weeks after he had come back when Tony's curiosity had won out against his anxiety. Late at night on his own in the basement, he had asked FRIDAY to play him the footage of what had happened that day. That day he had died. Pepper, the kid, Rhodey... seeing their agony in the face of what he had done to protect them... it was a memory he just couldn't shake.
"I know, me being here doesn't change what happened. Kid, I know you were there when he..." Tony glanced to the side, searching the kid's face for a reaction. "...when I died."
Peter's head moved in a mixture of a shake and a shrug. "It... it doesn't matter..." His voice shook, possibly trying to convince himself as much as Tony. "You're back. You're... here. It... it's fine..."
"You're sitting at my grave in the freezing cold in the middle of my Christmas Eve party, buddy."
It was as bluntly as he could put it. He could see no benefit in tiptoeing around the demons the kid was battling.
But Peter shook his head more distinctly this time, still denying him. "It was just because... so many people and my senses, they... I just needed a little quiet to... calm down."
"Right. We have about 60 hectares of land out here and still..." Tony blew out a breath and leaned a little closer to the kid. "Still, this is the spot you picked to go." There was no answer from the Spiderling. "It's okay, if it still hurts, buddy."
The humorless chuckle that bubbled out of the kid didn't make things better for either of them.
"Pete, can you look at me?"
He didn't though. His eyes didn't stray from the inscription on the stone. 'A.E.S. - At peace.' A shudder went through Tony at the thought of how his wife had decided on that particular inscription.
"You're here." Peter's eyes dropped further, away from the stone, down to the snowy ground. "You're okay. It... it shouldn't matter..."
Tony grit his teeth then threw caution to the wind. "It's been 5 years and a little more than 8 months since you dusted in my arms, Pete."
The kid visibly shook next, his hands braced against the cold ground as he finally turned to look at Tony. 
"5 years, 8 months, and some odd days." Tony's lower lip was caught between his teeth, his cheeks flushed. The images in his mind were as vivid as they had been on that fateful day on Titan. "You're here now. You're back. You have been back for 6 months and I can still hear your voice in my head pleading how you don't—"
"I'm sorry..." the kid whispered.
Tony huffed out a low chuckle. "Yeah. You said that too."
"I'm sorry that... that you felt responsible," the kid started and Tony had just wanted to protest when the boy stopped him with a wave of his hand. "I am, but it's not the same."
For a brief moment, Tony closed his eyes, trying his best to calm himself and keep the dry bite from his tone. "No. It really isn't the same."
The breath Peter blew out was harsher, angrier. "It's not, because I didn't choose to get dusted," he growled, refusing to look away from Tony now. "I didn't want to die!"
"I know, Pete. I remember." The beat of his heart hurt in his chest. "You think I would have wanted to die?"
Peter shook his head, tearing his gaze away again. "It doesn't matter."
"Kid—"
"Can we just... I don't want to argue about this."
Peter pulled his knees close to his chest and the way his hands were shaking made Tony want to drag him back inside so he could focus on giving him a proper lecture without having to worry about the cold the kid might catch out here. 
Instead, he filed that back for later, deep breaths keeping his own frustration in check. "Maybe we do need to argue about this."
"I just want to move on!"
"And I..." Tony couldn't stop his voice from shaking. "...would really appreciate a chance to argue my side here."
"You don't need to argue your side," the kid hissed at him. "It's not you, I'm mad at, okay?"
Tony studied his boy. He was becoming painfully aware, how strung up the kid really was, how agitated. "It's not a choice anyone wants to make, kid. Sometimes, there is just no other way to —"
"There were like 10 people close by who could have done it." Peter shot him an angry glance. "It didn't have to be you! What about Morgan and Pepper, huh? What about—" He shook his head, eyes back on the snow-covered grave. "Captain Danvers. Thor. King T'Challa. The lady with the flying horse. Strange. Rogers. Barnes. Wanda Maximoff. Me." His head spun back towards Tony. "I could have tried."
Tony's stomach turned at the mere thought of that. "Yeah, there's no way in hell, Pete."
"Why not?" Peter's eyes burned with tears. "Why not! I could have taken it!"
"You have no idea if that's true." His heart was racing, his throat dry. "You might have died."
"So it's fine for you to sacrifice yourself on a whim but for me it—"
"Stop!" The way his hand hit the ground didn't have the grand effect he wanted. "That's not how this will work, kid. Ever. I will always try to keep you safe."
"And what about what I want?" Peter spat at him.
Tony shook his head, his eyebrows knitted close, desperately grasping for control. "I'm here now, am I not?"
"Yeah, for now..."
Any frustrated retort that might have been building up on his tongue died instantly as he watched the boy rub a hand across his face, the way his lower lip was quivering.
 "Kid... come here..." His agitation evaporated and without another beat of hesitation, Tony pulled him close, his arms tightly wrapped around the boy's small frame. "Shh, it'll... it'll be alright."
There was nothing he could say, nothing he could do that would take away the pain of the days when he had seemed lost forever to the people who loved him most. Just like Tony would never be able to quite shake the deep sense of loss he had carried for years when the kid had been dead and gone. 
Peter's hands were clasping the thick fabric of Tony's coat, his face pressed against his chest.
There was nothing he could say, no promises he would make, not the ones the kid wanted to hear right now cause he could never keep any of them. When it came to the kid's safety, his life, he would always put it above his own. No matter how much it might hurt him again, at least the kid would be breathing, would get to live.
"I'm sorry, buddy."
"But... but you're not," he mumbled against Tony's jacket.
He had a hand on the back of the kid's head, holding him tight. "I hate that I hurt you, Pete. I do." He pressed his eyes close, ignoring how the cold was creeping up from underneath him. "But I'll never apologize for trying to keep you safe." The boy shook in his arms, but Tony didn't let him pull away. "I sure as hell won't apologize for succeeding." There was a low tremor in the kid's body that was definitely more than emotions. "You're shaking, buddy. Let's get you back inside."
"I'm not c-cold," Peter hiccoughed.
"Alright, then..." Tony ruffled a hand through the boy's hair, his own digits frozen stiff. "Well, I'm going to get pneumonia and you seem to be very invested in—" He groaned as Peter slapped a hand against his chest.
"It's not f-funny!"
"No, at my age it really isn't something—"
This time, he caught the kid's hand just in time to soften the blow. In the process, Peter sat up straight enough for Tony to squint at his red-rimmed eyes.
"In there, you could watch me bust Harley for sneaking around the mulled wine?" There was a sparkle in the kid's eyes at that. A real sparkle he couldn't quite hide. "Ha! Knew I'd get you with that one."
Peter moved back a bit, shaky fingers rubbing his face. Squinting at the boy, Tony was weighing his words, wondering how many hornet's nest he should be poking at.
"You should get over this, buddy." Tony cringed at the look of utter discomfort on his boy's face. "I mean it. That little power struggle the two of you are going through..?"
"There's no power struggle."
Tony crocked his head at him. "You know what I mean... Kid, I know you want to keep your secrets but Harley can be a great ally to you."
"Right," Peter mumbled. "Can we just like... do this another time?"
He nodded before the kid had even finished the sentence. "Course, buddy." For a moment, Tony held in, his focus never anywhere else but Peter, as he tried to control the tremor in his voice. "So, we should get back inside, right?"
"Yeah. Right." The kid leaned back against him, his voice muffled. "Just... just a couple more minutes?"
Tony swallowed hard, nodding soundlessly. He'd never refuse the kid. Never. How could he ever?

Marvel's Loki: 12 Easter Eggs, Hidden Meanings, & Plot Details From Trailer

The God of Mischief is up to no good again.
Marvel President Kevin Feige unveiled the first in-depth look into Tom Hiddleston's debut solo series, Loki, which will follow the consequences of the 2012 version of everyone's favorite horned anti-hero as he makes a timeline-disrupting escape. From references to other Asgardians to apocalyptic alternate futures, Loki's trailer is full of hints to the show's mysterious plot.
Without further adieu, let's break it all down. Here are 12 things from the Loki trailer — including Easter eggs and hidden references — that you (probably) missed.
Endgame Effects

The first 25 seconds of the trailer contextualize where we are, and how we got here.
To recap, Avengers: Endgame's time heist was not a perfect mission. When the team of Tony Stark, Captain America, Hulk, and Ant-Man travel to the events of 2012's The Avengers, they successfully obtain the Soul and Mind Stones without problem, but fail to capture the Space Stone. After being knocked aside by an irate Hulk (stairs!), the Tesseract pops out of its briefcase, landing at Loki's shackled feet. Behaving like a true God of Mischief, Loki picks up the cube and dips through a portal.
From there, our solo series begins.
Iron Man Callback

Loki crash lands in a desert, located in what appears to be Mongolian-era China, considering the attire of the three people that approach him. Desert crash landings are no stranger to the MCU, as fans will recognize this moment as emulating Tony Stark's crashed escape from the Ten Rings' cave in Mark I of the Iron Man suit.
Owen Wilson

He may not have looked like him, but he sure sounded like him.
Owen Wilson makes his first appearance as a character that goes unnamed on-screen, but closed captions reveal him to be Mobius M. Mobius. What a name! Mobius does not have a rich comic history, but he has been involved in the prosecution of the Fantastic Four before. Interesting timing, don't you think?
Mobius takes a shackled Loki down an elevator, saying he's bringing him somewhere to talk. Loki, donning a Time Variance Authority prison jumpsuit, claims he doesn't like to talk, but Mobius immediately calls his bluff.
Here, Loki is a prisoner of the TVA for his time crimes. This group of timeline FBI officers are tasked with ensuring that everything operates as planned. When 2012 Loki escaped with the Tesseract, he essentially broke the timeline laws, and is now being remprimanded for it.
The Minutemen Meet Mysterious Figure

The TVA's cybernetic police force make their first appearance in what looks to be ancient China. Known as the Minutemen, these guys are tasked with carrying out TVA laws and directly deal with individuals that have interfered with the flow of time.
Here, the Minutemen are searching for someone, or something, in a past time period. If it is indeed ancient China, this would put it at the same location Loki crash landed into at the beginning of the trailer.
While the Minutemen execute their search, a mysterious cloaked figure drops a lantern on surrounding grass, and the smoke brings at least one Minuteman to his knees. There's no telling who this mystery man is, but if reports are to be believed, it could be Jonathan Majors's Kang the Conqueror debuting ahead of his lead antagonist role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Kang has been rumored to be introduced in Loki for months, and there seems to be more tangible evidence of his existence in future frames.
More on that later.
"Glorious."

The MCU is stacked with notable quotes, but there's no one that delivers a Shakespearean line quite like the God of Mischief.
In just one word, Loki calls back to his character-defining statement from 2012's The Avengers: "I am Loki, of Asgard. And I am burdened with glorious purpose."
Oh, and this line is uttered in Stark Tower. Evident by the particular mirror design, it looks like Loki will return back to the timeline he escaped from.
The Three Faces of the TVA

Twice in this trailer we see three figures displayed in an area of prominence.
The three faces first appear behind Gugu Mbatha-Raw's high-ranking TVA executive, who is presiding over Loki's trial. The faces appear once again a couple of frames later, this time attached to full-scale bodies in the form of massive statues.
The faces have been speculated to belong to the Time-Keepers, three time-travelers who head the TVA. The trio, and the TVA organisation, have had disputes with none other than Kang the Conqueror, often fighting over temporal territory across the universe. Loki's timeline meddling might have disrupted Chronopolis, Kang's metropolitic city of conquest that combines all eras of the Conqueror's rule. If Kang is indeed an enemy of the TVA and Loki meddled with his city, Loki's may be in for a whole world of hurt.
Flashback Failures

Wilson's Mobius shows a shackled Loki footage of the God of Mischief's 2012 failed conquest of Earth, to which Loki disapproves. This could begin Loki's identity stuggles, which will be a central theme of the series.
Similar to how General Ross showed the Avengers their past destructions in Captain America: Civil War, it's likely that Mobius is taking Loki on an unpleasant trip down memory lane.
What will be particularly interesting is if Mobius shows Loki future events that he is unaware of. Remember, this Loki has only lived up until 2012's Avengers, so he has not experienced anything from Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Infinity War, and beyond. What if Mobius shows Loki that he did in fact get the Asgardian throne at the end of The Dark World? How will Loki react to watching Thanos choke the life out of him in Infinity War's opening act?
Roxxcart... Roxxon?

Loki is seen with the Minutemen embarking on a mission inside a supermarket.
'Roxxcart' is prevalent throughout the aisles and entranceways, making this location all the more intriguing. Fans will recognize the 'Roxx-' prefix as attached to the Roxxon Energy Corporation, a company that is prevalent on the Marvel comic page. Roxxon has been engulfed in some shady business in the comics, and has been teased to appear in live-action before. If this supermarket is under the Roxxon banner, Loki might have just gained a massive conglomerate adversary.
Upon entering Roxxcart, the Minutemen hold a man at taser-point, though it's unclear if he's their target or simply an innocent shopper. All the while this is going on, the cloaked figure from earlier in the trailer watches from security footage.
Mephisto

Mobius and a Minuteman approach a young boy in a church. The boy offers an object to Mobius, which he accepts. As the two speak, a notable stain-glass window sits behind them. The window depicts a devil-like figure sitting royally, with many speculating this could be the extra-dimensional demon, Mephisto.
Let's start deep diving into speculation.
Considering Loki takes place in a branched timeline and will utilize time travel as an integral plot device, it's fair to assume we will not only visit the past, but also the futures.
Dystopian futures.
We speculated in the WandaVision trailer breakdown that Mephisto would play an integral role to Scarlet Witch's series. Let's run with the idea that Mephisto is not only in WandaVision, but is defeated. Could this tribute-like window indicate this takes place in a future where Mephisto wins?
In the comics, Mephisto spans centuries, popping up in the earliest days of Marvel lore. What if this scene is in the past, when Mephisto was worshipped as some form of god-like figure? There is no telling how Mephisto will factor in to any MCU projects, but if he does indeed debut in WandaVision, this mural becomes a lot more interesting.
Avengers Tower in Ruins

Remember what I said about exploring dystopian futures? This frame gives us our strongest indication that that is a tangible possibility.
Here, stands alone in what is presumed to be Central Park. Around him are jagged ruins of collapsed skyscrapers, complete with overgrown grass indicating that some time has passed since this destruction occurred. Still standing somewhat upright in the skyline is none other than the Avengers Tower in rough shape.
These ruins likely take place some time after Avengers: Age of Ultron, considering the famous Marvel tower has a closer resemblance to its Avengers' style than its original Stark model. Could this be a future where Thanos wins, and humanity gives up on solving it? Or better yet, what if this is Ultron's success story?
Clean-Cut Loki

A suit and sunglassed Loki boards an aircraft looking a lot more like Tom Hiddleston than the God of Mischief we're used to.
Loki is likely undercover here, or at least does not want to be recognized. From here, he jumps out of the plane, calling for Heimdall to time the Bifrost just right to prevent him from falling to his death, like Black Widow (too soon?).
His appearance resembles that of D.B. Cooper, a mysterious man that held a plane hostage, took its passengers' money, and leaped from the plane, never to be found. Could Loki be placing himself in key historical moments?
It is unclear if Idris Elba will return as the Bifrost's gatekeeper in the series, but it is worth noting that Elba has expressed interest in portraying Heimdall again.
Vote for Loki

The final shot of the trailer features a suited up Loki complete with a new horned crown and a 'LOKI FOR PRESIDENT' pin.
The God of Mischief is joined by armed warriors from different time periods, who quickly turn their weapons to the titular character. It is possible that Loki has been gathering some form of an army every instance that he travels through time, and this is the band of misfits he came up with.
Let's talk about that presidential pin!
It remains to be seen whether or not Loki is running a legitimate campaign or if the pin is just for show, but sign me up for an alternate future that sees Loki in the oval office.
While we covered as much as we caught, there's always more information to be found. Speculation has run wild about a possible Black Widow appearance in the trailer, and new findings are surfacing seemingly by the minute.
Loki is set to stream on Disney+ in May 2021.

MCU Loki: Speculations on the “Loki” series
So, for the fun of it I’m gonna speculate on the whole “Loki” series.
For start Time Variance Authority.
In the comic the TVA seems to represent the lawful alignment. It doesn’t mean it will do the same in the “Loki” series, Marvel sometimes change things but let’s pretend they left this unchanged.
Before you start thinking this is a good thing, let’s remember the lawful alignment doesn’t define the moral axis of something, merely the ethical one. General Thunderbolt Ross and the Krees can be considered as lawful as Captain America and Rhodey, only the first two are lawful evil while the last two are lawful good.
Karl Mordo in “Doctor Strange” instead moves from lawful good to lawful evil.
For the TVA what matters are the rules. They are, of course, sure that respecting the rules is a good thing, and if this requires to wipe out an entire temporal line… well, no problem of theirs.
In short the TVA are your sort of guys who might decide that no, the Avengers shouldn’t have gone back in time and hamper with the timeline and save half of the universe because… it’s against their rules.
Here they seem worried that Loki has changed things. I would argue that it’s the Avengers that went back in the past and change things but let’s explore what it means if Loki didn’t met up the same fate as the one of the ordinary timeline.
Well, for start the Bifrost doesn’t get repaired as Thor used the Tesseract to repair it.
This might mean that, for start the Nine Realms will have to do without Asgard’s protection but, in more MCU terms that Thor won’t be able to go back home. There’s to wonder if he’ll manage to make peace with Jane and reach for her when she will be possessed by the Aether.
If he doesn’t, as a result, the Aether can fall more easily in Malekit’s hands, who will attack Earth directly instead than Asgard.
We might not end up having Thanos because the Dark Elves win and wipe away people themselves, turning the whole series in a variation of “War of realms”.
Okay, no, I don’t think we’ll get “War of realms” but it’s a pity.
What I wonder if the fact that they have Loki and Moebius interact is because one is chaotic and the other is lawful and the theme of the story is going to be this.
Chaotic again, isn’t necessarily evil, it only means you don’t respect the rules.
Scott Lang from “Ant-Man” is chaotic good for example. The Vulture from “Spider Man Homecoming” is chaotic evil.
Same as Karl Mordo Loki tends to change his moral axis at need. Prior to “Thor” he’s chaotic good, in “The Avengers” he’s Chaotic evil, in “Avengers: Infinity War” he’s back on being Chaotic good again.
So the whole show can open the discussion of how respecting or not rules should be tied to moral values. We shouldn’t respect a law aimed at hurting others… but we shouldn’t break law carelessly either as there will be consequences.
For example…. There’s a scene showing Loki in Pompeii.
Should the people in the city be warned mount Somma (yeah, it’s mount Somma which erupted, what will remain of it after the eruption will be named Vesuvius) is about to erupt and therefore saved or should we let them all die because, after all, their death is kind of already happened from Loki and Mobius perspective?
It’s a question that, in a way, was opened and ignored in “Avengers: Endgame”. The Avengers decide to save all the people that were blipped away by Thanos… but what about the ones he killed previously?
The half of Asgardian refugees, Heimdall, Loki, the dwarves on Nidavellir, the people on Xandar he wiped away to get the power stone, the people that die in the battle of New York, that was still caused by Thanos even if he didn’t oversee it personally, Gamora’s family and people?
Thor arrives in Asgard and is forced to face that most of the people there will be dead… would it have been really bad if he warned them against Hela so that more could survive? If he saved his mom and then asked her to find an alternate way to get the same ending with the Dark Elves only this time it doesn’t include her dying?
It’s questions worth making because they touch our moral axis as, if we do nothing, we let those people die/dead.
For a greater good? How can we know the result and for who’s the greater good? For us?
So anyway this has the potential to be cool, because when the lines on the moral axis blur and you don’t know anymore if something is good or evil, the decisions are taken by the ethical axis.
And someone lawful would just say ‘the law says so therefore letting those people die has to be the good choice’ while someone chaotic would say ‘screw the law, it can’t be good, I’m gonna save my mom and worry about consequences later’.
And this is awesome material for a story.
Though, of course, they can also take inspiration from “Agent of Asgard” in which old Loki, despite thinking that nothing would change even if Loki were to try to be good, still changed the past so that Loki could have a better chance at life and could make a more informed decision in the end.
(the scene of Loki’s decision is “Agent of Asgard” is AWESOME and way better than whatever redemption arc the MCU came up with by the way so I’m all to get that if they do the appropriate work)
Going on.
In the comics Mobius is a bureaucrat, cloned for his job and who knows nothing else but it.
Of course Marvel can portray him differently but let’s assume they’ll run with this.
So it can be that for Mobius everything is just ‘data’ and people are merely ‘entities’ and this not because he’s evil but because that’s how he has been taught to live.
He studied all of Loki’s life, but that’s it, for him they probably were data, not someone’s life, just a list of facts with no emotional value attached.
Studying Loki’s life is a job, and he might dedicate to it with the same mind setting of a student studying Caesar’s life.
He might not stop to wonder how painful the stabbing was, how horrible it could have been to see that his son was among the stabbers, how desperately he attempted to protect himself as he tried to flee and how brutal the others were as they continued to stab him even when he fell and lay there defenceless.
All he might care for is he died in 15 March 44 BC, attacked by around 60 men and stabbed 23 times, one of the stabs given by Brutus and that’s it. And then on March 15th put on Tumblr a stabbed Caesar salad and joke on his death because, by now Caesar is no more viewed as a person, just as a historical record.
For Mobius Loki might be just a record and even if Loki sits in front of him, he’s no more than data and someone to use. If Mobius gets an arc in which he develops he might learn to view Loki as a person, which doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll stop being lawful.
He might learn to feel sorry for him but still say ‘but the law says this is it’ or he might shift his ethical axis.
It would still be an interesting plot.
And for Loki too there’s potential for things to be interesting because he might, for once, to feel in control.
Most of Loki’s life is dictated by him not being in control.
He didn’t get to decide to be a Frost Giant, picked up by Odin, raised by an Asgardian and revealed the truth too late. He didn’t get to decide to be the less favoured son and he came to believe nothing he would do would make him worthy in Odin’s eyes. He was sent by Thanos to conquer Earth, manipulated by the sceptre. And now the TVA has captured him and they’re forcing him to cooperate.
If he’s given the power to affect the past he might grow to believe he’s actually not forced to submit to other people’s choices but that he’s in control of his fate.
It’s part of the point of “Agent of Asgard”.
Old Loki came to believe no matter what he did, he couldn’t change things, he would always be the ‘god of lies’, but the Loki of “Agent of Asgard” instead decided he would be something else and became the master of his own fate.
It would be a good development.
Of course, I’ve not the slightest idea if Marvel will go according to this route.
There’s really too little to judge and I’ll admit I won’t like it much if the point is not so much to save Loki but save Lady Loki because, no offence to Lady Loki who might have an even worse past than Loki, but it’s Loki the character I grew to love and I wish would be saved.
Last but not least, as I feared the whole ‘You've literally stabbed people in the back like fifty times’ quote produced a lot of discussing when it shouldn’t have.
Like, we miss most of the content but, from the look of it, it’s not like Loki, on his own, decided to pay a visit to the TVA and to help them. They captured him, he even though they wanted to kill him, they very likely forced him to cooperate.
Now, in this case any guy with an ounce of brain does what Tony did when he was held captive by the Ten Rings and they asked him to build them weapons if they don’t want to end tortured or killed. They say ‘yes’, gain their trust and then build a Iron-Man suit behind their back with whom they can stab them. In the back, yeah, because that’s what people with a modicum intelligence and no magic hammer should do with guys who overpower them and held them captive.
It’s a basic survival skill, not a proof you’re untrustworthy. People don’t own captors to be trustworthy to them and this message must never be allowed to pass.
You has to be trustworthy with people who deserve it, not with people who force you to be subservient.
So yeah, I hope Loki will stab the TVA in the back because no matter how lawful an righteous they feel, they clearly impose to everyone their law and no matter how much they claim they make the world better, they’re clearly sacrificing people.

I kind of went from there - I hope you enjoy the cheeky fluffiness, nonnie! Warnings: None, it’s saccharine sweet, y’all.  Summary: 
Tony is used to the media blowing his name up. He’s dealt with it his entire life. Peter, on the other hand, is still adjusting. A nasty comment on a special picture gives Tony insight on Peter that he never had before.

For the most part, Tony didn’t mind being a household name.
A lot of years, his name had a negative connotation connected with it – whether it was because of his weapons industry monopoly or the playboy portion of his notorious nickname, people turned their noses up at his name in the headlines.
His stint in the desert changed not only his perspective, but the general public’s, too. Everyone loved a good sob story, even if it came at the price of a bit of Tony’s sanity and the inherent safety he felt up until that point. Though the Iron Man suit brought him positive notoriety, Tony pursued the good he could do with it for purely selfish reasons. He survived the miserable conditions and all odds bet against him for a reason. That guided his moral compass.
Then, he met Peter Parker. At first, his interests were strictly on Spider-Man and the brilliance that Peter could create when behind the mask. Even in pajamas and pool goggles, he moved marvelously and got the job done without any hesitation. It became abundantly clear that with a good support system, the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man could easily be a hero that the world needed.
Try as he might, Tony did not possess the strength to keep Peter away from the dangerous situations. Besides the fact that they needed the skill and intelligence he possessed, Tony was acutely aware of the truth that Peter did belong amongst them and his youth was not an exclusionary criterion. It couldn’t be – not when Peter understood what it was like to carry the world on his shoulders.
After Thanos, there wasn’t denying anyone’s worth – the entirety of the Avenger’s collective put everything they had into the plan, execution, and inevitable defeat of the biggest foe the world took on to date. From that point on, there was no point in trying to deny anything – especially when it came to Peter. The boy he met in the small apartment in Queens was no longer the youth Tony forced himself to categorize him as. It was easier to think of him as a kid than admit that so many things he saw in Peter were exactly what he was looking for.
Even though the realization came, Tony still felt a little hesitant. He offered Peter a position in his lab that equated to something full time in R&D while he went to school, so they were always around each other. There seemed to always be a power balance between them – one that, when the media got a whiff of, would be the highlight of the story; not the relationship that Tony knew they could have. Though, the more he thought about it, the easier it was to see that any relationship with Peter would be scrutinized – their history together was too deep.
Peter did not have the same qualms, however. Tony noticed the flirting when he first started working in the lab. It wasn’t subtle, though, he didn’t think Peter was trying to be. At 20, Tony remembered the ruthless way he went after the things he wanted – he recognized the hunger for that in Peter’s eyes almost instantly. Tony tried to resist it for as long as he could, but the siren call of a connection that just made sense couldn’t be fought. Especially when, in most circumstances, Tony was a hopeless mess that never picked the right fights.
At least Tony felt the satisfaction of finally making the first move. It was only a matter of time, the two of them were dancing around each other – Tony let himself lean into Peter’s touches more and when the dam broke, he pulled him in by the hips and pressed their lips together so tenderly. Peter’s gasp gave him just enough room to deepen it; and suddenly, the line was crossed.
Most of the people around them took to their relationship pretty easily. Of course, the team had a few reservations about objectivity, but with the way Tony was trying to take a step back from the actual battle part of the Avenger gig, it wasn’t too difficult to reassure everyone that missions would come first. When it was reasonable, at least. Though, Tony didn’t voice that to anyone but Peter. May wasn’t hard to convince once Peter was able to make her understand that the move was recent and that at 20, he was more than capable of making his own choices.
For the sake of actually enjoying things between them without the world’s opinion, Tony and Peter spent the first 2 years of their relationship keeping it on the way down low. They were plenty open in front of the team and around Happy and Pepper who were surprisingly supportive of the whole thing – but in public, Tony tried to keep the dopey smile off his face and worked exceedingly hard not to touch Peter, no matter how much he wanted to.
When Peter graduated college, Tony took things one step further between them and got down on one knee in the comfort of the sleek kitchen of Stark Tower. The dark tungsten of the ring looked good on Peter’s skin and immediately drew media attention when it was in pictures the very next day. It seemed like a good time to finally let the world know about the love that ran so deeply between them.
Of course, Tony’s worst fears showed their ugly head almost immediately. Every media outlet that ever wanted to say something bad about Tony decided to pick apart the entirety of their relationship – starting when Spider-Man joined the Avengers. It was a rough blow to the wall he created around the precious thing between him and Peter. They’d been in the dark hiding for so long, it took him a little while to adjust to the bright light of unrelenting cameras flashing and rumors being created just because.
He figured that letting a news outlet like People take care of the photography for their wedding would calm the craziness down a little bit. The entire thing was understated and highlighted who they were together as a couple. Peter smashed cake in his face, and they ended the night with the cheesiest walk under sparklers that were some of the hardest things to procure out of all the wedding supplies that ended up being necessary.
The photos were beautiful and the write up that went with it actually did justice to the sincerity of the relationship between him and Peter. It took the heat off of them for a little while – the cuteness and novelty of two of the world’s superheroes getting hitched sparked an entirely different discussion than the age different between two consenting adults.
That’s what he thought, anyway.
A couple weeks after coming back from their honeymoon, Tony found Peter on the couch looking at his phone with the grumpiest expression. The ache to rub the crease between his brows away settled in the tip of his fingers, but he ignored it, sitting on the cushion next to him instead. “What’s up, Pete?” Tony asked as he leaned in to press a soft kiss to his husband’s temple.
“Pepper told me not to ever look at the comments when I first joined up, you know?” Peter mumbled, his voice a little hoarse from the obvious emotion coursing through him. The question was rhetorical – that was rule number one when trying to keep ahold of sanity while constantly under public scrutiny. Peter knew that, too – but sometimes desire easily bypassed rational thinking.
“I put up the most beautiful picture from our wedding. The one where you’re gazing at me like I’m the greatest gift to the world. And I forgot – just for a second. That people suck.” Peter shrugged, the defeated gesture making his heart pang.
For the longest time, Peter didn’t want to sit in the limelight – Tony and the rest of the crew did what they could to make sure Peter’s identity remained a secret. It was enough to get him through high school and then another year or two through college before it got too hard to hide. Tony remembered the conversation they had about Peter taking the last step out of the dark vividly – even then, he’d been apprehensive. More than anything, Tony understood the mourning of his private life.
Wrapping his arm around Peter’s shoulder, Tony pulled him tightly against him, the shininess of the ring on Peter’s finger catching his eye – he still got a little giddy thinking about the look on his face when Carol pronounced them husbands. He grabbed up that hand and pressed a kiss to the ring and the knuckles surrounding it.
“It sucks, doesn’t it? Being under the microscope of people that don’t know you or anything about you or your life. The judgement of a populace that only gets news presented to them by people that have an agenda.” He bite down on all the other comparisons that wanted to flow out of his mouth – Peter got the point, he could see it in his eyes.
“What doesn’t suck, though, is the fact that you’re mine. Or the fact that despite what people want to believe, our relationship is built on a foundation that is unshakable and as pure as the carnality of a marriage can be. Fuck them, Pete. If I’ve learned anything, that’s all the really matters. We didn’t save the world to live within it half-assed. I love you. No one gets to take that away from me – or us.”
Peter leaned into him; the frantic nodding of his head felt against the solid part of Tony’s chest. He recognized strong arms circling around his middle, crushing him against Peter in a way that he’d grown familiar with over the years. His husband was so incredibly cognizant of the truth of his statements – Tony could tell by the silence that engulfed them, and the way he merely squeezed him tightly.
“You’re right, Tones. You’re right. It just got under my skin – the way people decided to disregard something that’s so real and pure and honest. I always want to defend you. Your character shouldn’t suffer because love for you came in the package of someone that’s younger. It’s grossly unfair,” Peter retorted, the huff in his breath making his voice come off pouty and the slightest bit childish.
It warmed Tony’s heart.
“Pete, the fact that you’re on my team is more than enough. I’m used to the outlandish things people want to paint me with. You’re all I need. Knowing that you don’t think those things, is the easiest way for me to stay firm and not care about what people think.” Turning a little, Tony grabbed Peter’s cheeks softly, his thumbs tracing the seam of Peter’s lips.
“I’ll always be on your team,” Peter whispered, his lips kissing at Tony’s thumb with every pass of the digit. “I love you, Tony.”
Tony leaned forward and pressed their lips together then, his eyes closing when Peter wrapped his arms around his middle and pulled him in closer. He still needed to go back to the lab and finish the latest experiment they were working on, but in that moment, it felt more important to keep Peter close and enjoy the fact that his husband loved him so damn much. Enough to be offended by the shit people said about him, to want to stand up and defend him for all he’s worth.
The unfortunate truth of the matter was, Peter would have to get used to it – Tony couldn’t escape his past or the fact that the people believed that he owed them a piece of himself. Of course, Tony didn’t need to throw that in his young husband’s face just yet; there’d be more than enough time for that learning lesson. Instead, he let Peter lead them through a deep kiss, their lips kiss swollen when the need to breath pulled them away from each other.
“I love you too, Pete,” Tony muttered against Peter’s lips, “but, I know you knew that already.” He pulled back and tossed Pete a beaming smile. A moment later, an idea slipped across the front of his mind and made the look on his face transform quickly from affection to mischief.
“Want to really say fuck ‘em?” he asked, getting up off the couch and pulling Peter with him.
He walked them down the hallway until they were outside of their bedroom – Peter quirked a brow at him but didn’t say a thing. Tony walked them forward until he was kicking off his shoes and crawling into the middle of the bed. “Come on,” Tony beckoned, his back flat against the mattress and arm spread open wide for Peter to settle in against his chest.
Peter, being the beaming baby that he was, didn’t hesitate to crawl into the space Tony left for him, his face settling into the nook of his husband’s shoulder. Tony wrapped his arm around Peter’s wide shoulders and pulled him close.
Getting his phone out of his pocket took a bit of maneuvering, but he finally did and fucked around with it until the camera was facing them. “Be extra cute, Petey,” Tony said, his voice soft as he lifted the camera above them. Wrapping Peter up and turning his head, Tony snapped a few shots – his thumb hitting the button over and over again.
Greedy hands took his phone from him before Tony could swipe through the different pictures he’d taken. It was all well and good – he and Peter both looked amazing in any pictures they ever took of each other or together. The prints from their wedding they decided to have put up a couple of days ago were proof of that.
A soft rush of air leaving Peter’s lips had Tony looking over, his eyes softening when he saw the picture that Peter was looking at. Tony’s lips were spread in a smile against Peter’s forehead. Peter’s eyes were closed and the expression on his face was absolutely blissful. His hand was on Tony’s cheek where the gleaming wedding ring was abundantly obvious. The natural way they fit together came through in the picture – there was no deny it.
“Put that one up. Force those shitty people to see just how good we are together.”
The vibration in his pocket a little while later had him pulling his phone out. Grinning when he saw the @PeteParkerStark Instagram notification and quickly went about pulling the post up. He closed his eyes and let out a soft sigh when he saw it – the little reminders of why Peter Parker Stark was his husband never failed to blow him away.
There, under the picture they’d just taken, was a caption that read – ‘fuck ‘em <3’.

Just kidding. Kind of. I suppose I need to address something.
Tumblr is such a wonderful place for the LGBTQ+ community, you know, and me, being a bisexual girl from an incredibly homophobic country, it's a kind of comfort. But sometimes we forget that reality is, in fact, disappointing. I guess Thanos was right.

This is Dewan Siswa, a magazine for secondary school students in Malaysia. It's a great magazine! Don't get me wrong! Revision notes for PT3 and SPM, really good articles, poems and sample essays. It's great.
But!!! (Suppose you saw that coming) We got our March's issue today, and the theme was about identity. The first article's great. It takes about mental health, and stuff, which was great, and made me feel real noticed. Not that it's that great a thing but still. Second article's called

Of my God. I don't even know where to start.
Firstly, "issue"? There is no issue. We're not trying to make you one of us, stop interfering with our lives. Secondly, "golongan songsang"? I know I translated it into "unorthodox community", but "songsang" means something more like "inverse", or just, bad. Seriously? Thirdly, there's nothing to "cure". I'm not ill! Why do I need to be medicated, "cured"?

WHAT. WHY.
There's nothing wrong with us! Do people realise that the 21st century, did not, in fact, invent homosexuality? The Greeks, who lived before Christ, were gay as fuck. In ancient China, gay men were actually allowed to get married. Quietly. There was an emperor who was bi and chopped off his sleeve so that he wouldn't wake his lover. That's a story for another day. John, Lord Hervey, Queen Caroline's favourite, was bi. He probably even had an affair with Frederick, the Prince of Wales, but that is also a story for another day. Emily Dickinson was lesbian. Oscar Wilde was either gay or bi. We're any of these people ill, or crazy, or in need of "curing"? (Except that Emily Dickinson probably had depression and that doesn't count)
Please stop this. Just because some people's preferences are different from yours didn't mean they're less valid, or God forbid, wrong. There's nothing wrong with homosexuality, and there's nothing to "cure"!
For people living in countries where same sex marriages are legal and generally accepted, please don't look down on or condemn someone who's afraid to come out. This could be happening where they're from.

Best of Marvel: Week of December 4th, 2019
Best of this Week: Doctor Doom #3 - Christopher Cantwell, Salvador Larroca, Guru-eFX and Cory Petit

Doom is a very complex man.
He wants to be humanity’s savior, the one to see us lift ourselves up by our bootstraps and accomplish everything that he believes us capable of. At the same time, he wants to rule over it all as the supreme being over everything. His motivations are kinda good, but his methodology and lust for power will always be his downfall. For a man of immense intelligence and power, the only thing that trips him up is himself and it will always be that way, no matter how good he tries to be.
This issue starts off with Doctor Doom having a vision of the future. He sees a world made better by his own inentions, ideas that he might have hatched sometime after his accusation of terrorism from the first issue of this series if he had admitted himself to prison. Surprisingly, his face isn’t disfigured and he’s actually cordial with the crowd that’s allowed him to speak of solar skyscrapers and clean fuel. He seems like a calm, down to Earth, Victor Von Doom. However, amongst those in the crowd is current Doom himself, or what remains of him after being shot in the head in the last issue.

Salvador Larroca then switches from this bright, serene scene, to one of abject Heavy Metal terror as Doom climbs his way up from a sea of skulls in HELL. I cannot stress enough just how badass this art is. Larroca has always been good at visceral art and great backgrounds, but this scene alone is epic. There’s one wide, pulled out shot of a mound of maybe dinosaur bones and lightning crackling into the lava. The next pulls in to a pile of skulls placed against a mass of indeterminate flesh and organs. The next panel shows Doom’s hand breaking free of the pile and the last shows him crawling his way free of the skulls and flesh.
We then get one amazing shot of Doom in a badass set of armor surrounded by the flames, lava, skulls and lightning. Guru-eFX colors this in such a way that you feel the heat and intensity of the flames with hot oranges, the lightning is vibrant and dynamic and Doom stands above it all. His armor looks like something of a combination between a Dream Theater and Disturbed album cover. The use of shadows and lighting emphasize every detail and makes him look like the new biggest threat in Hell and he just strides through like a big dick G.
Eventually he comes upon Mephisto, former Ruler of Hell, and gloats that he finally has Doctor Doom’s soul for eternity. Doom is having none of this and punches Mephisto to the ground before picking him up by the throat, claiming that he was meant to save all of mankind and that he doesn’t belong in hell. Mephisto mocks him by saying that Doom did save his mother from the demon once upon a time (Doctor Doom & Doctor Strange: Triumph and Torment, 1989), but he then also sacrificed the love of his life for more power (Fantastic Four #67, 2003). He then snaps her soul into view of Doom to distract him.

Meanwhile, in Latveria, the political situation is the region is not getting any better as Symkaria is launching an assault with forces, tanks and artillery while NATO and the UN aren’t doing anything to stop it. Victorious is monitoring it all and notes that they plan to “stabilize” Latveria in Doom’s absence and retires to her quarters to clear her head. I do love stories of political intrigue and it’s clear to see how badly the moon base explosion is affecting Doom’s country with his people suffering because of the actions he’s accused of. It’s also interesting to see how Victorious is dealing with her newfound leadership. She gets angry and her generals listen to her, but even she has to relax after everything.
When she goes to her room, Larroca draws an intimate scene where she removes her armor and works out her stress. It shows a level of dedication to her own personal strength and alertness as she success out an assassin in her window. She tries to blast the assassin away, but misses, only for them to enter the room and put up a short fight with Victorious. The fight is dynamic and allows Victorious to show off her hand to hand skills in a small space. Both of these scenes are colored with the backgrounds a nice blue hue to contrast the frenetic action and sees Victorious winning the battle.
Though it pains me to say, Latveria is in a state of disarray because it doesn’t have Doom there to lead it. No one ever tried to send assassins to kill Doom, nor did they try to send forces to stabilize the region when he was around. Though Doom is the very pinnacle of tyranny in the Marvel Universe, every time he is away from his throne, the country goes into shambles. It happened under Lucia von Bardas, it happened when Doom disappeared following Secret Wars (2015) and it happened after Riri Williams seized control from a returning von Bardas and her insurgent force and tried to turn the country into a democracy (Iron Man, 2018).

For all the good that Victorious is doing and the order she’s trying to maintain, Latveria needs Doom.
Shortly after the assassination attempt, we cut back to Doom who is being tempted by the form of his former lover’s soul in hell. She calls him a monster and tries to persuade him to stay in hell with her, but when he refuses because of the visions he’s seen of a future where he saves humanity, it is revealed to be a trick by Mephisto. He rages at Doom for thinking that he will ever be free because of some “visions” that he had and Doom proceeds to beat his ass. Doom punches the Demon, stabs him in the neck with a bone and plunges both of them off of a cliff, into another ocean of skulls.
The fight could have gone on forever with these two, but is soon stopped by Mistress Death. Death usually only appears when mass deaths are incoming and she allows Doom to return to life. Mephisto kneels to her and protests that Doom should be his forever, but she replies that he will actually her greatest servant of all. In light of Thanos being dead and Deadpool not talking to her much anymore, this is a grim portent for Doom and the Universe at large.

I absolutely loved this issue of Doctor Doom. With the history the villain has in Hell, seeing how he might fare there alone is actually metal as hell to see. His armor was badass and made him look like a steampunk knight and the way he held his own without it when he fought Mephisto showed just how much he believed in his vision. Seeing the political crisis that Latveria is facing is intriguing now that we see how they’re dealing with things internally. Christopher Cantwell manages to give Victorious some dimension that was only slightly explored in her first appearance in Fantastic Four earlier this year and makes her a compelling character in this book
Salvador Larroca and Guru-eFX absolutely slayed on the art. Larroca continues to stun with his visceral and detailed art, even managing to make a hoodie clad Doom look strong. His designs, action and pacing make this so much more appealing than I originally thought it would be. Guru-eFX's coloring only accentuates that feeling by eliciting strong emotions based on the hues used. I could feel just how hot and awful hell was through the oranges and I could feel the uncertainty of Victorious through the blues.
Overall, this issue of Doctor Doom and the series thus far is well deserving of a read. Because if you don't, Doom will find you.

So I have a request: A Stephen who, in the Canon compliant universe, returns to the Sanctum for the first time in 5 years, breaks down and is completely devastated and exhausted from everything that happened. And then a time skip, to Stephen now having moved on, in acceptance. He may still feel a little guilty, but is immensly thankful for intimately knowing the beautiful souls who sacrificed themselves and resolved to cherish and celebrate their lives with their friends and family.
So my goal for this was to keep it under 1500 words. I completely failed that goal.
But that is what I am going to attempt to do with my ask prompts (should I get any more in the future), mostly because I have three multi-chapter stories completely spiraling out of control (and a fourth that needs its last chapter completed) and I will never get my Stephen Strange bingo card done by November if I keep on writing these super long things for every square XD
I’m not terribly pleased with the ending but oh well. Nothing was coming for days and I figured I sat on this for long enough.

The sun was setting over a celebratory New York City when Stephen came again to the New York Sanctum after five years gone. The powers that surrounded the building muffled the cheers and shouts and crying out on Bleecker Street from all the locals, unaware that the man who had helped instigate all their suffering was within the neighborhood.
It had been well over thirty hours since he had come back with the rest of the Disappeared. He was done with giving his report to the other Masters of Kamar-Taj and done with his part in what immediate reorganization was needed for their order. They had finally let him go to rest; he was alone. Wong, for instance, was still settling things as one of those who had survived the Decimation, and still helping others come to terms with what had passed.
And now, now all Stephen could think of was bed. He had washed up a bit in Kamar-Taj, thankfully, for he did not know if he would have had the stamina to do it now. The Cloak more-or-less carried him to his room as his body trembled, complete exhaustion overwhelming his entire being. He fell asleep near instantly.
It wasn’t until twelve hours later, as the dawn broke through his (unnatural) window to an untarnished view of the eastern coastline, that his exhaustion had dimmed to weariness and his mind had time to sort through everything that had happened.
Stephen had not spent his five years gone idle; unlike most other souls that were caught within the Soul Stone due to Thanos, he had an awareness of consciousness due to his connection to the Mystic Arts that made him able to utilize his time, even if time was not something he could feel passing. In those five years he had drawn power from the Soul Stone, a continuous draw into his own spirit to prepare for what he had to do upon his return.
(He knew, of course, that the Stone’s housing was disintegrated into atoms back in 2018. However, its raw energy was not actually gone, just scattered like the rest of the Infinity Stones. The first rule of thermodynamics was something Thanos did not consider, or maybe he did not care so long as that power was not easily obtainable for some time to come. In the end, he supposed it really didn’t matter.)
When he came to on Titan once more, he spared a minute briefly explaining the situation to the others, then asked for complete silence as he got them back to Earth, and more; for he had taken his borrowed energy to send a mental message to all warriors across the universe that he had found within the Soul Stone: The one who sent you away for five years must be defeated. Prepare for battle.
And then he made portals. So many fucking portals, portals he had no business having the ability to create, portals connected to the locations of those warriors across the universe, portals created with the power of the Soul Stone accumulated over five years and fully spent over the course of five minutes.
It was a damned miracle he had anything left in him for battle, but the Soul Stone was unlike any power source he had ever used before, including the Time Stone. Channeling the energy of Infinity Stones was unique to the standard rules of magic already, but the Soul Stone’s power was— indescribable.
So he had been able to battle. To hold himself up. And to watch as people from all over the universe, both the newly resurrected and those that had lived in a broken world, were slaughtered by Thanos’s armies. Slaughtered and with no way to return, not this time; he had used the Time Stone once to reverse death, and he had paid the price with several (hundreds, thousands) of his own deaths.
But the fabric of reality surrounding the battlefield was already torn by the combined actions of both the Avengers and Thanos, and it would tear even further with the final sacrifice; to use the Stones again at that moment, even one, was to rip the threads of the universe to pieces.
And so the dead remained dead.
Even though Stephen knew this, knew the logic behind his actions, knew that in triage situations, some people got the black tag—  it did not stop his stomach from twisting into a knot as he lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling and weighed down by the consequences of his actions.
In the silence and loneliness of the Sanctum, even while logic echoed in his head, guilt settled in the depths of Stephen’s core and began to make a home there.

Despite pretending everything was okay and despite going through the motions of his duties, the guilt grew into a beast that swiftly consumed Stephen’s being. He felt little need to eat and his sleep was plagued with new nightmares that caused him to work himself into exhaustion (and thus dreamless nights).
By the time Tony’s funeral arrived, he had lost several pounds and the raccoon eyes were becoming more prominent. A small glamour spell helped conceal that, but still Wong looked at him with thinly-veiled concern.
“Are you sure that the invitation was not just for you?” Stephen asked as he found a suit, miraculously still intact after years (literally years) of no wear.
“Of course I’m sure,” Wong said slowly, his voice carefully even. “You were mentioned by name.”
“Ah.” He cleared his throat. “I’ll be ready in time, then.”
Wong was still looking at him with that expressionless and yet all-knowing look, so Stephen turned away and went to the ensuite bathroom to avoid uncomfortable questions. They didn’t have time to prod into that right now.
After all, it would be rather rude of him to be late to the funeral of a man he had black tagged.

His lack of regular meals and general lack of care for eating was a new thing for him in this post-Thanos world (but he just didn’t have time for such trivial pursuits as food, not when he had five years to catch up on and a very damaged border between realities to monitor, to attempt to repair). Stephen got away with not really eating anything substantial for two weeks after Tony’s funeral.
Apparently someone (probably Wong) noticed this and the trend came to an abrupt halt. 
It started with the steward of the New York Sanctum. The steward’s role fulfilled the very real need of seeing to the general care and maintenance of the very magical and rather finicky building; it could only be fully overseen by a fully-trained disciple while its Master was dealing with the mystical threats in their part of the world. Stephen’s steward had been snapped into oblivion at the same time as he and was replaced with someone who spoke very little English. He remained at the post after the return of the Disappeared and generally avoided him, which was all well and good for Stephen. However, two weeks after the funeral, his steward was suddenly transferred to London (with no input asked from him either, the nerve) and the London steward came to New York.
His new steward was a woman: Italian, about sixty years old, five feet tall, and potentially the scariest woman he had ever met.
If anyone ever discovered his thoughts on the matter, they might wonder how that was possible when Stephen had been under the tutelage of the Ancient One. To him, she was the most powerful woman he had ever known, but he did not equivocate power with terror.
Ludovica Guerriero, on the other hand, was downright frightening. She seemed nice on first meeting; he learned she had come to be a part of the order a year after the Decimation, for all her children and grandchildren had been lost in that event (and with that story his guilt buried itself deeper into his soul). Unlike some of the new recruits who left for their families once they returned, Ludovica stayed on; she liked keeping busy and could ‘go visit the family whenever I want to, anyway’.
At first it was fine. Her first day there, she rearranged things her way while Stephen beat back some inter-dimensional boggarts and sealed a rip between dimensions in Guatemala. When he portaled back to the Sanctum, something that could only be called Italian was permeating the halls that led to the kitchen with a rich mix of smells. Unwittingly, his stomach growled.
He stepped towards the kitchen, then paused. He did not have time to sit down and eat if he wanted to finish his research before his body ultimately gave out on him. But as he started towards the stairs, Ludovica’s voice came to him with, “Doctor Strange? Is that you?”
Stephen sighed quietly and then called, “It’s me.” He took the few remaining steps towards the kitchen and halted at the doorway. “Smells good, Mrs Guerriero.”
“I’m glad you think so. I thought I’d do something special for my first night in New York for our dinner.”
Best to tell her immediately of his plans. “Actually, I—”
She continued on as if he hadn’t said a thing. “This was my nonna’s recipe. Parmigiana di melanzane with tomato, aubergine, the freshest mozzarella cheese; all ingredients picked up in my home town today.”
He blinked, momentarily sidetracked. “Sorry, uh, aubergine?”
Her brow furrowed. “Is that not the right word? It is melanzane, you know—” She cut herself off and pulled a stem with only part of the purple fruit remaining upon it. “This plant.”
“Oh! Oh, yeah, that’s an eggplant.”
“Eggplant? What a strange name.” She started dishing out the bake. “Would you mind setting the table, doctor?”
“I…” he started in protest, but the look she gave him was so sweet and imploring and kind. It reminded him of his grandmother from when he was young. He exhaled slowly; so much for his plans. “Sure.”
And that parmigiana di melanzane was really fucking delicious. It had no right to be that good.
About a week later, when he realized he had somehow been corralled to the dinner table every night since her arrival (and was a couple pounds heavier because of it), Stephen Strange realized that, underneath that sweet exterior, Ludovica Guerriero was an emotionally manipulative mastermind that knew exactly what to say to get him to do exactly what she wanted. This was absolutely terrifying.
Stephen was going to kill Wong.

Despite the terrible emotional manipulation being forced upon his person regarding (incredibly delicious) food, Stephen somehow maintained the status quo with his duties for five weeks after the funeral. He would work himself to utter exhaustion and only then find some rest (though even with this method the nightmares came on occasion, when he was just not exhausted enough, in his opinion).
(The part of his mind well-versed in psychology laughed incredulously at that line of thinking. He told that part of his mind to shut up and mind its own business, then threw himself in his work again.)
But eventually it all came crashing down. Of course it did; that was his life the last… however many years. Two or seven depending on how one counted.
The most embarrassing part was the situation that ended up being the straw that broke the camel’s back. It was stupid, completely irrelevant, and shouldn’t have even happened, but here he was.
It went like this:
Ludovica was out for the day with her family in Italy, Wong was over to discuss things, and they were both hungry. Neither of them felt like cooking, so.
“What do you want to eat?” Stephen asked as his glamour spell transformed his robes to something more normal for New York. “Pizza? Sandwiches? Thai? Something else?”
Wong thought for a moment. “I wouldn’t say no to a tuna melt.”
Stephen stilled his steps; that sounded familiar. Why did that sound familiar? It was just a sandwich—
‘I’ll tell the guys at the deli. Maybe they’ll make you a metaphysical ham on rye.’
Stephen blinked and placed a hand against the wall to steady himself. He heard Wong say, “Stephen?” but it sounded muffled and distant.
‘A… buck and a half,’ Wong admitted.
He sighed. ‘What do you want?’
Wong clapped his hands together and followed him down the rest of the stairs. ‘I wouldn’t say no to a tuna melt.’
The crash of breaking glass and wood, emitting a sound loud enough to almost contest the car accident.
Bruce Banner. Tony Stark. Thanos is coming. Ebony Maw. We swore an oath to protect the Time Stone with our lives. Fourteen million, six hundred and five. 
One.
“…en. Look at me, Stephen. You’re in the New York Sanctum Sanctorum. You’re safe. The cloak wants to reach out to you, Stephen, but I batted it away until you can look at me. You’re safe.”
Wong’s words managed to break through the cacophony of madness splitting his mind and he gasped as he focused his eyes on Wong. At some point he had ended up on the floor. His heart attempted to beat itself out of his chest.
When they made eye contact, Wong said without breaking it, “You can rest on him, but get back if his heart rate increases.” Then he continued, as the cloak gently settled itself on Stephen’s shoulders, “Copy my breathing, Stephen. Inhale… and exhale. Good, just like that. Again, inhale… and exhale. Again.”
His breathing evened out and his heart rate eventually slowed to something approaching normal, and Stephen was finally able to manage words. “Where—  where did you—  learn how to do—  do that?”
Wong didn’t answer. Rather, he asked, “Can I help you off the floor?”
Still in a daze he nodded his acquiescence, and Wong took an elbow and forearm and hoisted him up with the assistance of the cloak. He led Stephen to one of the smaller, quieter parlours within the Sanctum and sat him down in a comfortable chair. “I’ll be right back.”
'Right back’ was certainly not immediate, but Stephen lost track of time and Wong seemed to return nearly instantly, this time with a couple fresh cups of tea. He did not attempt to give it to Stephen, but rather set it down beside him. Clearly he saw just how badly his hands were trembling.
Wong took a seat across from him and brought his own cup to his lips. He said nothing as Stephen further calmed his heart rate and the tremors in his hands became less prominent.
Several minutes of silence later, Stephen murmured, “Sorry.”
“I knew it would happen sooner or later,” was Wong’s answer. Stephen swallowed and said nothing. “You cannot continue going on like this.”
Stephen’s instinctive reaction was denial, but he could feel Wong’s eyes on him and his retort fell before it could even begin. “There’s too much to do,” he said instead.
“There always is,” was Wong’s reply.
The silence sat between them again when Wong did not expound further and Stephen battled against a myriad of emotions within his own mind. He tried to distract himself with tea, but the shaking in his hand was too prominent, too debilitating, so he withdrew it.
Another two minutes passed. “I have been given another chance in this world,” he tried instead. “All my efforts should go to protecting it.”
Wong eyed him expressionlessly. “Your efforts have gone above and beyond most. They have seen the resurrection of all life that was unjustly taken five years ago.”
“Those were not my efforts,” Stephen argued. “That was the Avengers.”
“And you set them on that path.”
The tremors increased. He swallowed heavily. “My efforts caused the entire universe to suffer for years. My efforts brought an intergalactic war to Earth’s soil. My efforts brought chaos and despair that led to so much death.” His voice broke on that last word and he turned his head away from Wong.
Wong permitted him a moment before speaking again. “I was told it was over fourteen million futures you saw.” A shudder ran through Stephen in reply. “At what point did you see this future?”
He swallowed. “Somewhere around four million.”
“And you searched another ten million after.”
His hands would not stop their violent shaking. He loosely gripped at the cloak and it curled around his hand. “I’m not—  I’ve done triage before,” he started. “Battle of New York. We didn’t have the resources to—  to save everyone. We had to pick our cases. Before the accident, it was one of the most difficult moments of my life.
“But this reality was—  it was too much to ask. There were too many black tags. I knew there… there were hundreds of millions of permutations. Maybe billions. But I could not sustain the strength needed to search further. I was not… not strong enough.” And to his horror, he felt tears falling from his eyes. He could not look at Wong.
“Stephen. Stephen, look at me.” Reluctantly, after a brief moment, he turned his face towards him. Wong’s steadfast look was blurred by the unwanted tears. “You are the strongest man I have ever known. What you did no other human being could have accomplished.” Stephen’s gaze lowered. “And you must remember: you saw the paths of the future, but you did not control its course. Everyone had their own free will to make the choices they made; they knew death was a real possibility, but they chose to fight.”
Another shudder ran through his entire body and he felt the cloak increase its pressure against him ever so slightly. He placed his face in his trembling hands and just tried to get a grip.
He suddenly felt a hand on his shoulder. “It’s not your fault, Stephen,” Wong muttered.
His tenuous grasp on his emotions completely broke. Another full body shudder ran through him before an ugly sob broke past his lips. Once it started, it was as if a dam had been broken; all his grief and guilt released itself then, the all-encompassing pain overwhelming his entire being. Even as he wept and mourned everything that had been lost, the cloak carefully curled about him and Wong remained a silent, steadfast presence at his side. His hand never left his shoulder.
And with the brick wall he had put about his heart finally breaking down, Stephen began to take his first steps towards recovery.

“Oh, Doctor, you have mail.”
Stephen looked up from the tome to stare at Ludovica. “Mail? As in… from the mailbox?”
“Where else does mail come from?” she answered with a soft tut. He took the envelope from her and she left the study.
He frowned at the address. Upstate New York. What was in upstate New York? He carefully opened the envelope and unfolded the letter.
Oh. They finished rebuilding the Avengers compound. And… a celebration. A memorial, for Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff, and all those who gave their lives over a year ago.
And he, Wong, and any sorcerer who wished to attend were invited to celebrate their lives.
Stephen’s eyes grew distant for a moment as his mind went back to that day. The ache was still there, but it did not consume him anymore. It had joined the other poignant, bittersweet reminders of days past, of those gone but still within living memory.
He softly exhaled before standing to head down the hall to Kamar-Taj. He was sure there were many who would be interested in attending, and to remember those gone so that they would not be forgotten.

Happy Fosterson Week Day 2: Outside POV! This fic stemmed from my love of fake academia, but also my absolute desire to never write an academic paper ever again. So I found a bit of a middle ground. Fair warning: Both Jane and Thor have passed away in this. But never fear, their life together was long and happy.
A generation later, a budding social scientist tries to figure out Jane and Thor.

Just a little bit of context: this was very early in my thesis writing process, back when Jane and Thor were only planned to encompass a single chapter of my book (ha!) and I was planning on writing a straight cultural analysis rather than the cultural analysis-slash-biography it became.
Okay, now on with the original post!
Good morning, fellow New Asgard Anthropologists. For any newcomers, my name is (future Dr.) Melanie LaComb, and the purpose of this blog has been to share my research on a little more of a ground level, record my process of writing my thesis, and talk/write through some problems and put them up for community collaboration. It’s also nice to be able to shed the academic discourse for just a few minutes and write informally. So much freedom! So many exclamations and I statements! Anyway, I’m writing this new post to talk my way through a bit of a new thorn in my research. The late Thor Odinson and Jane Foster.
A lot of academics have kind of scoffed at this problem of mine—they were two extremely famous individuals! Integral to so many galactically significant events! Of course there is absolute mega loads of information on them! There must be dozens of biographies and at least two definitive autobiographies for beings of such impressive historical stature!
This may shock you, but NO there actually isn’t. Or, I suppose in some ways there is but not in the ways that would be most useful for me. For Odinson, who grew up on Old Asgard, the destruction of the planet meant the destruction of many records kept from his years before the Greatest War Against Thanos. His years afterwards are better trackable, but hardly centralized and hardly the more personalized records I am (now trying to get at. Foster, known on Midgard as Dr. Jane Foster and colloquially throughout the galaxy as “Jane the Thinker” or “Jane the Brilliant,” is surprisingly easier to get a handle on. Her fame wasn’t contingent upon her marital status, and she was well-known in scientific circles even before the first battle of the War in the year 2012.
So the root of my problem is this: fitting this pair into my New Asgard diaspora research. Because they are….. how do I say this…. not fitting? With my methodology? (I went to the school of redundancy school, but F*ck I’ve been writing and writing and writing for like 8 hours today already and I’m not changing it so THERE.)
So most of my research deals with the formation of a New Asgardian identity, and it relies heavily upon the shared cultural experiences of the Dark Elf Invasion of Old Asgard and the death of Queen Frigga (an aside, but one of my classmates, Korla Majer, wrote a really stellar article on why the Dark Elf invasion should be included as one of the major battles of the Greatest War, and how the dismissal of the event by most historians actively hurts our understanding of galactic politics at the time and I absolutely 10/10 would recommend you go read it after you finish this blog post) as well as the battle for and destruction of New Asgard. For beings so long lived as us, Asgardians have proven that we can make our memories as short as we need to, and those two events seemed to create the largest basis for the new cultural identity forged on Earth. (For some obvious reasons, namely being the events that led to the planet being destroyed and necessitating the move to Midgard, but ANYWAY.)
But I can’t really deny Jane and Thor’s place in the New Asgardian identity because their effect on the masses is well-documented. There are libraries full of memes, old paper magazines with paparazzi photos paired with barely-real stories that say a lot more about the readership than they do the subjects, even some old FanFiction that I was able to dig up that is in some ways more helpful than all the academia from that time period combined XD
In my roundabout way, the problem I’m trying to sort through is this: HOW do I tackle the Jane/Thor chapter?
Because in my original outlining of my thesis, I had planned on their chapter being a quick summation of how they met just before the Greatest War’s beginning, courted through the course of it, and married at its conclusion. Then, I’d give some context on their influence on galactic politics (because despite what some people erroneously think, they actually were not the monarchs of New Asgard. They remained advisors only after Thor abdicated the throne and named Brunnhilde [of house Dragonfang, an extremely old and well-respected Old Asgardian family] his successor. There was the five year gap of the Blip where Thor was officially King, but it was hardly a politically significant time as for much of this period Thor was gone from New Asgard), how some political maneuvers affected the general New Asgardian populace, and then move back to the cultural study portion of things. But the more sources I gather about them, the more I think this chapter might need to be extended, or made into some… sub point of my main thesis.
Because while I said earlier that information on them is hard to find (because it is!!! You try making document requests to 17 different universities on 15 different planets!!!! Alfheim literally delivered what I asked for in a light spectrum file format!!!!!!!! Like WHAT!!!!!! AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THIS????? HOW DO I CONVERT THIS INTO A PDF OR EVEN JUST MAKE IT COMPATIBLE WITH HOLOREADERS) it’s not always the quantity that’s the issue, it’s the content. I found myself longing to know more about who these people were and why they did the things they did. I’ve always found that I've done my best research when I follow my gut feelings, and research things that I’m passionate about. New Asgardian diaspora culture? I’m living it, baby! I’m very interested because my generation is the first generation to have never set foot on Asgard, and that’s something worth exploring!
And now here I am weirdly fascinated by an almost-king whose magical powers are pretty legendary who was banished and fell in love with a woman (who was 100% human at the time, by the way) whose scientific theories were so advanced that her own people thought she was a bit of a kook until all of her theories started getting proven right. From a non-academic perspective, that sounds like a freaking romance novel or epic movie or something. (Which, by the way, it was! There were at least 6 separate pieces of media [film, novel, television show] that were based on their story that I can find on record.) So on a personal level, here I am wondering why two people in the past got married in spite of wildly different life circumstances/why one of them abdicated a throne that was his birthright, and on an academic level A) trying to figure out how to fit this weird fascination into my thesis B) how did these two political and cultural figures shape the cultural landscape C) was their effect on the cultural landscape more or less significant than the two events which have been taking the most of my focus for the last year? D) how productive is it to even ask the question of more or less significance?
*screaming*
A few people have asked me if I should just switch my track to talk about how they affected Brunnhilde’s rule over New Asgard (which, in case you missed previous posts, Brunnhilde is a huge part of my current thesis as she essentially presided over what I’m terming “The New Asgardian Cultural Renaissance” and was absolutely critical to how things were shaped.) I’m hesitant to do this because this has actually already been done. I’ll stick JSTOR links in the endnotes, but Dr. Hamel Radley literally wrote this. “A King For the Ages: Brunnhilde’s First Three Decades.” Also, Dr. Leslie Storn’s “A King’s Court: Brunnhilde’s Advisory Council.” AND Dr. Jorseph Naulty’s “King Brunnhilde’s Surprising Advisory Council: Steady Hands, Scientists, Military Minds, and Galactic Politicking.” Look, there’s a LOT on Brunnhilde’s rule, and a LOT written on her advisory council. She was the ruling monarch, so it’s pretty par for the course.
But for how politically and culturally significant they seemed to be, there’s not really much specifically on Jane and Thor. Their cultural influences are given lip-service, and that’s it. (Again, Jane has been scientifically significant in a way no one has achieved since Albert Einstein, so in that way she’s more famous than her husband, but scientific notoriety isn’t the same as recognizing the fullness of her cultural contributions.)
I brought this stuff up to my advisor, and she said to keep pulling this thread because I’m on to something here, I just need to figure out what.
So my next research goal is to reach out to their descendents. They have a few children and grandchildren living, and hopefully at least one of them is willing to speak to me about them as people so I can get that portion of things nailed down before I go insane.
My almost-insanity probably bled into this post a little bit because it’s redundant as heck and you can bet your bum I am not spell-checking or proofreading. I need a break from that garbage. The life of a doctoral student continues.

Melanie--this is a super interesting track, and your advisor was absolutely right when they said to follow it. I think it would be really interesting to read a sort of half-biography, half-cultural analysis piece. Would be really unique, and I’m sure any doctoral committee would find it an engaging topic.
Not sure if you’ve tried the Avengers Museum and Historical Library yet, but that might be a good place to go for some more primary sources, since Thor was a founding member and Jane was closely tied to them throughout their life. They have a really solid amazing librarians there who know the stacks backwards and forwards. I relied heavily on them when I was researching my last paper about racism against superheroes of color in the early 21st century.

Hey! My mom is actually really tight with Thor and Jane’s oldest daughter Valkyrie. I think they knew each other from school or something back in the day, but she’s really awesome and basically my aunt, so if you need an intro or a number to call, I’ve got you! Endgame and how it made Sunflowerchester write meta no one asked for but she did anyway, once again…
Last year, around the time Infinity War came out, I wrote about all my frustrations with the film. So it should be no surprise to anyone that, despite how much I enjoyed Endgame, I’m here again with Some Shit to Say: Feminist Edition.

As much as I enjoyed Endgame, I have some major issues with it. Yes, it gave us a 3-second empowerment moment near the end but that felt more like placation than anything else with how bad they’ve been to their female characters throughtout the series, even and especially in this movie. Sorry, Marvel, I’m not a dog you can jingle keys at to distract me away from how you fridged not one woman (Gamora) but TWO WOMEN (and Nat) to acquire that goddamn Soul Stone. 
Not only is this trope disgustingly sexist.  It’s LAZY. 
You JUST DID IT IN THE LAST MOVIE, IT’S SO UNORIGINAL ARE YOU KIDDING ME YOU DID IT BACK TO BACK HOW?!?!!!? 
So ...yeah.... I’m exhausted of this. 
They killed 2 women for the exact same reason, for the exact same drama, for the exact same plot, and neither got a beautiful, exalted ending like Tony Stark (WHO Y’ALL KNOW I ADORE). No, they were unceremoniously killed and discarded to rally and stir the motivation of the men left alive.
When the teams left to travel back in time, there were only 2 women with them to begin wtih. When everyone returned, only the men remained.
I’m sorry, but I just don’t see how this was ever okay with them except they probably didn’t even notice bc they’re dudes.  Like... thanks for the “girl power” tableaux with all the ladies joining Carol, but that doesnt make up for the sexist bullshit rampant throughout the series...  and displayed prevalently in this very film only 30 minutes before!!!! I DIDN’T FORGET.
...where women are not only still fridged but also apparently interchangeable.
Nebula's past self being killed isn’t okay just because there is still a present day Nebula. Past Gamora crossing into this timeline doesn’t make it okay that Infinity War Gamora was fridged. Female characters are NOT interchangeable, they are NOT. It doesn’t absolve the writers of how irresponsibly they’ve dealt with female characters.
On the comment section of an article that discusses how Nat deserved better, someone said, “Uh... it was her choice.”
Do people not understand that just because a female character in a story "chose" to die to sacrifice herself for a man’s story, that doesn't mean it’s feminist??? A MAN wrote the story??? Like... this is not about Her Choice when A MAN WROTE HER CHOOSING THAT. A man chose to kill a female character to further the plot, and specifically in this instance, she died to give a MAN the rest of his life at the expense of her own. And he wrote the words for that female character to say to absolve him of that instrinsic sexism. 
Nat didn't choose it, she's not real. What is real is the consistent use of sexist tropes where women are used as props and plot devices, where a woman’s whole purpose for existence should revolve around setting up a man's story. 
Even if a woman has been a major part of a series for 10 goddamn years! 😡 What is real is misogyny and sexism in media, full stop. 
Natalie DID deserve better. She deserved her own ending to her own story, one that had nothing to do with propping up a man’s happiness or igniting the motivation of a group of men. The manpain about Natalie’s death after the fact was so frustrating to me. It was quintessential fridge-ing, and I was so tired that we were still seeing it in the FINALE of a decade long series. They’ve really learned nothing.
My friend @rockuzaki​ articulated what I think it comes down to in a convo we had after we saw the movie together:
“I think the most development I have seen for Natasha was at the beginning of Endgame, and I LOVED IT. It made me realize that I've never been invested in Natasha [before] because they never gave her a chance to be fleshed out like that... The most frustrating thing is they create these beautiful, [full] arcs for the male characters (Tony, Captain, Thor, Barton), but the female characters get these arcs that aren't fleshed out. [So, then] it seems like there were only [giving Natalie a more fleshed-out story in Endgame to build up to] her death scene. [The writers show us] that they [are capable] of fleshing out a fully developed character and a great arc for that character. Natasha finally had it after always playing a side character to the main superheroes, [but then they fridged her]. Natasha, Gamora, and Nebula were all robbed of a full arc [in order to flesh out the arcs of male stories instead of their own]. 
Endgame made it clear that male lives are valued and male pain exalted while women just serve those things. It’s why Tony got a full arc, 10 years building up the most beautiful send off for 1 male death which was a monumental event in the series...
...while Natalie --who arguably sacrificed just as much to end Thanos as Tony, because she also died to bring Thanos down-- didn’t even get a memorial scene, not even a memorial COMMENT referencing one off screen or something. Nothing.
Rocky and I struggled with the questionable rules of of time travel in Endgame but what we realized was most of the inconsitencies come from how they applied the rules differently to affect each storyline. If there aren’t consistency in the rules you can bend them for plot purposes, and that’s fine, but the writers only cared to bend them to set up/flesh out/protect male characters. The directors explain generally the rules but they only follow them when it's convenient and in doing so reveal their true priorities.
All you have to look at to see how the MCU values their female characters is how they enforce their own rules: Bend them when it gives men more screen time, keep hard and fast to them when they need to kill and/or use a woman as a plot device.
The ratio of female characters killed and tossed aside compared to the men is flagrant. There were so few to begin with in Endgame, but by the end almost all of them had either been killed or had had a version of themselves killed. The hollowness of the “girl power” moment at the end of Endgame is a pretty great metaphor for how serious Marvel has taken dealing with female characters: It’s brief, shallow, and feels like it’s just there to check a box.

KREE COMMANDER AND LEADER OF STARFORCE
Crowned the hero of the Kree-Skrull war, Yon-Rogg had it all - the fame, the respect and the authority to command the entirety of the Kree military if he wished it. He, however, chose to remain a faithful Commander of the Kree Empire, a tutor for young generations to come, sharing his knowledge with those willing to learn, and those not willing as well. The peak of his career perhaps was being appointed the leader of Starforce, an elite Kree military force tasked with executing high risk tasks and missions around the Empire and beyond. Among one of the many Yon-Rogg was tasked with was the locating and execution of Mar-Vell, a Kree scientist gone rogue in her attempt of creating the so-called Core and helping the Skrulls escape the complete annihilation they were facing from the Kree.
FINDING CAROL
For that task, Yon-Rogg decided to take Minn-Erva with him, his star student and perhaps the best sniper the Kree military forces had. After chasing down Mar-Vell and the pilot navigating the terran spacecraft, he discovered Mar-Vell had died, but the girl piloting the spacecraft didn’t. It was a stand, one against one, him against her, all until she decided to shoot the core instead of him. The explosion emitted a something that, to him, felt like a heat wave mixed with the wave of breaking the sound barrier. Once on the ground, Yon-Rogg was able to turn in time to see the girl absorb the Core’s powers when it should have killed her instead. In awe and slightly fascinated, his feet carried him over to the girl, amber eyes spotting half of what appeared to be dog tags. Were they the girl’s? He picked them up, the remaining half reading out ‘ V E R S ’. It had to be her name.
6 YEARS OF WAR AND LIES
Against Minn-Erva’s protests and desire to kill Carol, to Yon-Rogg known as Vers, the Kree Commander decided to take her with them instead. On the way back to Hala, however, they were starting to lose her. She was slipping away. The medic on board the Helion suggested immediate blood transfusion in order to save her, and once again, against Minn-Erva’s protests, Yon-Rogg offered his own blood, knowing that the Supreme Intelligence wanted the Core’s powers, one way or another. They didn’t even reach the outside of the Halan orbit when Vers was back on her feet again, though very confused and, what she would never admit, scared, as she didn’t know where she was or what had happened in the first place. Right then, Yon-Rogg told his very first lie to her, saying how she was attacked by Skrulls, their mortal enemy, and that they were lucky to get her out alive. 
To his surprise, Vers believed that story, mostly because she was uncertain about everything. She had no memories, no recollection of who she was, and there was question after question during their flight back to the capital planet of the Kree Empire, and even after arriving. Yon-Rogg took Vers under his wing, teaching her all he knew, learning more about her in the process, not just her personality but also how she handled her powers. It didn’t take her long to become his new star student, at that time Minn-Erva completely tossed aside and forgotten. 
Over the course of 6 years, Yon-Rogg watched Vers grow into a a highly competent fighter, with a stubborn and determined mind to end the Kree-Skrull war and be crowned a hero of the war just like her mentor. The two of them by then had a very strong relationship, that went beyond the mentor-mentee one - Vers was a friend, something Yon-Rogg usually didn’t have, and something he cherished greatly. She was also like a daughter to him, one that would always come to him during early morning hours, waking him up and seeking advice and comfort in him after her nightmares. While Yon offered both to her, he worried at the same time. Her past was catching up to her.
As the Supreme Intelligence deemed Vers fit enough to go on her very first mission as a member of Starforce to get the Kree scout Soh-Larr back from being in Skrull captivity. Little did they know that it was in fact a Skrull ambush so they could get Vers. With the communications on Torfa going downhill, it was easy for the Skrulls to get their hands on Vers, and that was only the start of the reveal of lies Yon-Rogg spun around Vers for six long years.
THE BEGINNING OF THE END & YON-ROGG’S DOWNFALL
It took him communication calls, so many more lies to Ronan the Accuser, and even more convincing to keep Vers in the state of mind she had to be - she was Kree and the Skrulls were her enemies. Yon-Rogg, however, wasn’t an idiot. He could see her slip from those beliefs, suspected that she was doubting it all, and truly, soon enough Vers knew it all. She was Carol, was suspected dead after the plane crash, and once Yon-Rogg, after arriving on Terra, learned what had happened, he was left with no choice. The Supreme Intelligence tasked with an order he had to fulfill. Carol had to stay alive and be brought back to Hala. It meant a fight, one that he, after so much struggle, lost. Fearing for his life, he begged her, pleaded her to not send him back. Yon-Rogg knew what would happen. Failure was not a word known to the Kree. It wasn’t tolerated nor was it practiced. He couldn’t go back empty handed. And yet, Carol sent him back to Hala, without her, without the Cube. It would be his end.
The Supreme Intelligence was, needless to say, enraged. Their poster boy of the Kree propaganda and star soldier failed. Yon-Rogg was deranked immediately, the fine apartment in the city center taken away as well, with him tossed into the torture chambers deep beneath the headquarters of the Supreme Intelligence. He went through countless hours of torture, as a reminder that failure was never an option, especially not for him. During that time, Ronan, who had previously witnessed the range of Carol’s powers, forged a strong alliance with Thanos, the mad titan. He was to keep the Kree safe from Carol and in return, the Kree would be at his disposal for anything the titan needed, which later turned out to be the search for the Infinity Stones.
After his release, Yon-Rogg was appointed Ronan’s right hand man, practically a lap dog to do his bidding - a way to get his rank back quicker than usual and a way of redeeming himself for what he had done and for allowing Carol to slip out of his grasp right before he completely had her converted against the Skrulls. And yet, things didn’t stop there.
MEETING VALEERA (MVSPELHEIM)
Apart from being Ronan’s right hand man in the alliance with Thanos, Yon, after obtaining his rank back as well as the living quarters he had beforehand, continued doing what he did best when not on mission - teaching. He taught children, little recruits who were eager to learn. It was, in many ways, something to help him cope with what he had been through the past years. Children were innocent, such bright little spirits that even brought a smile to his face. He worked in a much more relaxed environment, training kids and occasionally telling a story or two about his missions, tending to leave the bloody and gore parts out of them, finding that the kids deserved to have a happy childhood before joining the military.
He was interrupted during one of those training sessions, his superiors requesting him to meet with a new trainee, and the moment she walked in, Yon-Rogg had bad flashbacks. Blonde hair, slender but fit figure, powers she couldn’t control - Carol. Except she was Valeera Surturdőttir, the daughter of the ruler of Muspelheim himself, a princess, royalty, somebody who reminded him of his last trainee too much for his own comfort. He hated it, despised it, went to his superiors to appoint somebody else to train the princess. They wouldn’t hear it. He was to train her and nobody else.
It was painful. Despite being a good student, Valeera was just as stubborn and determined like he was, not letting up on things despite doing them wrong at times. It drew Yon up the wall, always having disliked not having things under his control when they should have been. And then, one late night, as both of them were awake, sparks flew. He had been denying his feelings for her for the longest time, going by the good old ‘feelings are a distraction’, but what was the point? They couldn’t show their relationship in public, the laws didn’t allow it. Any Kree in a relationship with a non Kree would be sentenced to death. Did that ever stop them? Never.
KREE-XANDARIAN WAR AND INFINITY WAR
Not long after the, should anybody know, scandalous relationship between Yon-Rogg and the princess, there was a riot on Hala. People were standing up against the Supreme Intelligence, slowly realizing that the tyranny, manipulation and abuse had to stop. It was a long battle, those loyal to the Intelligence going against their own kin - sibling against sibling, parents against children and vice versa. In the end, the rioters came out victorious and chose an Emperor to rule like it was supposed to be ruled. The Emperor, in some ways wanting to continue what the Supreme had done for centuries on end - the expansion of the Empire.
With Xandar as the bordering planet, they were their first target, and the Kree-Xandarian war went on for decades. When not in battle, Yon-Rogg was at Ronan’s side, the Accuser now on the search of a purple orb, as he described it, a task given to him by Thanos, and when not doing that, he was with Valeera, though their time together was becoming scarce. Being the devout soldier her was, Yon-Rogg put his duties in front of everything else, even his own personal life. By the end of the war, when the leader of the two Empires signed a truce, there were many victims on both sides, one of them being Valeera’s mother. Unknown to him, Yon was there to even witness it as Ronan killed the woman.
There was so much death. Death of loved ones, of colleagues, comrades and people who were his superiors. By the time Ronan died by the hands of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Yon-Rogg had discovered that the Empire was flawed, the alliance between the Kree and Thanos only leading to more destruction. His suspicions were correct, as a few years later, Thanos had managed to gather all of the Infinity Stones needed. Yon-Rogg was there, the majority of the Kree military joining in the battle of Wakanda, when it happened. THE SNAP. Half of the universe gone like that. Half of the Kree gone like that. Kree, who had promised to help, who had hopes that Thanos would protect them. He never did. From anything. Not even when Ego, the celestial, threatened the entirety of the Empire with his expansion. He didn’t protect them from the Snap. Nobody was spared. That was it for the Kree Commander. That was the one thing that spilled the cup over.
ENDGAME AND BEYOND
The return to Hala was painful. Half of the population was gone. Returning to his family home, he discovered his parents gone, his two younger sisters remaining. He moved them to his place, took care of them, trying to do anything to make them distracted from thoughts of their parents gone. While Yon himself never was connected too much with them, he knew that Mart-Enna and Rhia-Non were, especially Rhia, the younger of the two. Five painful years passed with the only good news that came to Hala being how Thanos died. Still, it was little consolation. People had to learn to move on and cope with the situation. And then, the unexpected happened.
Thanos called to arms.
While confused, Yon-Rogg, like most of the reminder of the military, answered the call. Terra again. Complete destruction everywhere. Avangers against Thanos. Surely they could take down 6 people and their companions. They were fighting for the gauntlet, Yon and his battalion trying to keep things at bay. It was pointless. The big green guy got it, snapped his fingers. More people appeared. Portals opened, revealing even more. And then, an unstoppable force. The battle stopped as an unrelenting force destroyed the Sanctuary II. Carol. After so many years, not having seen her once, she was there. She was there and landed right next to him. It felt like their last encounter. One versus one, his gun pointed at her while a pleading look was seen on hers. 
Instantly, he was sent back into the past. All those restless and sleepless nights where he would comfort her and give her advice, all the fun moments they share together. She was like a daughter to him, a daughter he never had. And now here she was, pleading with him to stop it all, begging him to choose her over anything else. It was that moment when Yon-Rogg had remembered why he hated Thanos, why he so vigorously protested against him ever since the Snap happened. All they were doing was wrong, all of it. Among the people watching them, the battle still at halt, he spotted Valeera as well. He never told her about the alliance with Thanos, or that he sided with him out of obligation more than out of want. He couldn’t do that anymore. He had to change sides.
Code 57-TK8. Switching sides on the battlefield. 
The moment he issued the command, every Kree spacecraft was aimed at Thanos and his still loyal followers. The end of the battle, however, couldn’t have been avoided. Tony Stark had sacrificed himself for the welfare of the entire universe. It was such a selfless act, one life in exchange for trillions of others. He attended the funeral, a small and quiet one, reserved for family and friends, yet Yon felt the need to be there. He owed the man that much, even if he never knew him. The fact that he saved the universe was enough to pay his respects. 
After the funeral, Yon lingered a bit longer on Terra, for the first time feeling conflicted about everything. A major part of him didn’t want to go back. Going back would mean being a military lap dog, having no future with Valeera, the woman he loved more than anything else, their lives always at risk should they be discovered. It would have also meant that making amends with Carol would be impossible. Perhaps... perhaps it was time to change and turn a new page in his life. A new life on Terra, far from the cruel and imperialistic grasp of the Empire. 
Where Yon-Rogg’s journey will take him? That’s yet to be seen.

What do you think could’ve been a way to make Loki AA’s primary antagonist AND keep him in-character? Would’ve been my dream movie tbh
It wouldn’t take a huge amount even if you leave almost the entire plot the exact same. He could have been an infinitely more effective Big Bad, but that would be more structural work and that kind of major overhaul isn’t necessary if you just want him to be in character.
There is some stuff to work with. There’s already emphasis on him being in a very bad way physically and it’s already implied he suffered some kind of torture, so the most generous reading of the film as it exists is that Loki’s mental state is so poor that he isn’t in touch with reality. For example, when he says Thor threw him into an abyss- the charitable reading (and the only thing I think makes sense with TH’s acting choices) is that he genuinely doesn’t remember it accurately. His trauma and paranoia, spending however long in a void obsessing over what happened and trying to reconcile his own actions, spending however long being tortured, etc. have distorted his perception of events.
Now that he’s been forced to go on living, he can’t admit that he tried to kill himself. The whole reason he tried to kill himself is that he can’t cope with the reality of his situation and what he’s done- there’s nothing to live for in that moment of lucidity when he offers everything up to Odin and Odin rejects it.
So, lean into that way more. Make the coercion more explicit and take out all the stupid, wrong ‘you want daddy to make it better’ power speeches (fy JW), the ‘a throne, any throne, at any cost’ stuff, delete that awful (pointless anyway) scene with Black Widow, and give him an actual plan that makes sense from his pov. Have him still motivated by his desire to be a worthy son, a worthy prince of Asgard, and desperately trying to consolidate an identity of his own. He does not care about power, he never pursued power, what he wants is love, respect, belonging. He wants to prove that he is just as valuable as Thor.
He’s not a ‘full-tilt diva’ who wants his name on a building. Fame and adulation are not what he desires or what he’s missing. He’s missing self worth and a sense of place. He is a terrified and insecure emotional-child who absolutely loathes himself and has had every anxiety-thought he’s ever had apparently vindicated by reality. His meltdown came about because being the temperate and sensible one (his natural disposition) is inextricably linked with being ‘other’ and ‘less than’ in his life. He had thought the problem was Thor’s impulsive, arrogant behaviour overshadowing everything, needing to babysit his brother rather than accomplish anything on his own, and that his pragmatic approach to life was obviously superior- if only Odin would acknowledge him, but then he discovers he’s a monster and so they must have been right all along.
A very substantial part of his original motivation was also genuine concern for the realm. He’s diplomatic and relatively sober-minded until his very personal fear-buttons are being pushed; his anger is cool, only his hurt is hysterical. Nothing he ever does is done for no reason or just to make someone suffer (even his lies to Thor are intended to keep Thor from ever trying to return to Asgard, not solely to humble or wound him). He’s callous in pursuit of goals he considers very important (in an unthinking, I’m-royalty-this-is-the-fate-of-the-kingdom kind of way), but he’s not sadistic.
So to get him to act as the big bad, what makes sense? He has to think what he’s doing is necessary. He has to be able to justify it to himself as a greater good to cover the child-like, selfish, vulnerable primary motives; he does not want to be in charge and would never consider his own rule a ‘greater good’. He doesn’t consider collateral damage but doesn’t cause it on purpose, and he is only driven to direct, extreme actions by panic and desperation. He should be a cerebral villain (Joss thinks he is in AA, but he’s not), so he should be playing 3-dimensional chess and should have at least two apparently contradictory layers to his plan (as he does in Thor1, where is seems like he’s aligned himself with the Jotuns and will allow Laufey to kill Odin until it’s revealed his real plan was to lure Laufey to a vulnerable position and secure that total victory for Asgard Thor has been boasting he’ll get since they were children while also gaining an opportunity to personally rescue his father). He never stops adapting to changing circumstances, but his solutions are surreptitious and non-violent until he’s backed into a corner.
Therefore, a story where we think he’s just trying to usurp a world to find self-worth in ruling it for the first half (preferably one where he beats the shit out of Cap and Iron Man before allowing himself to be captured so the audience actually understands that he can and so he feels like an actually dangerous threat to the heroes), but it’s revealed that he’s really playing a triple cross. He is trying to prove himself to Odin and be vindicated, but he’s doing it by deliberately conning Thanos out of the Tesseract and protecting Midgard from harm; controlling and negating the invasion from within. He managed all this so he could be a ‘defender of mortals’ as Odin and Thor are, so he can take home a powerful artefact like Odin did the Casket of Ancient Winters. Planning to drop these spoils at his father’s feet while pretending he didn’t orchestrate the entire situation. Like Thor1, this plan could essentially succeed completely even while parts of it blow up in his face and he struggles to keep believing it’s worth it, and the point is that his parameters aren’t acceptable, it’s not okay to use whole planets as pawns, etc. and the heroes have to thwart him right as it’s coming together.
So instead of randomly disappearing leaving everything necessary to defeat him lying around unguarded and being completely superfluous to the climax as he is in the actual film, there is a meaningful fight with emotional stakes. Instead of Our Heroes vs Organic Battle Droids for forty minutes, there is a genuine conflict and genuine tension. Loki remains consistent and very sympathetic while still being a major existential threat. The film doesn’t slap him around as comic relief or render him pathetic when you’re still supposed to fear him, he doesn’t become a ridiculous cartoon misogynist space Nazi, he doesn’t feel like a total damp squib of a villain who really didn’t merit the big team up.
