"Okay, so tonight's dinner will be pizza, as I was informed. "Where are you?" Not knowing what she should be looking for other than a pizza box as she makes her way down the catwalk, YN says, "Is there a pizza box I should be looking for, really? — A sudden cheer could be heard from the other side of the stage, where Harry appeared to be pointing down to someone in the audience. Harry said, "C'mere, I think I found her. I'll even check my imaginary watch on my wrist to see how long it'll take her to get here," he said, motioning for YN to come over to his side.

"I actually believed a turtle was with me on stage," Harry jokes with a smirk on his lips, "YN finally made it over, much slower than anyone, actually." By this time, the two are arguing once more and have forgotten that they were looking for the pizza a fan had promised YN she would get at tonight's show.

"Well, I wouldn't really like the opportunity to slip and fall down as I'm running to you, no? - I'm simply being safe, unlike you." YN says with a cheeky grin plastered onto her face, to which Harry replies with a playful, offended look as he dramatically starts crying and places his hands over his eyes to stop his "tears" from falling out.

YN decides to move on, away from the conversation, and approaches the fan, who is holding a pizza box in the air. "Are you the one who promised me dinner?" The fan's head nodding told her everything she needed to know, even though she couldn't really hear what she was saying due to the audience and the earpiece placed in her ears. She then reaches over to the fan, carefully grabbing the box from the fan's hands without falling. As YN holds the box, her excitement quickly builds as she remembers how hungry she was before the show.

"Better hope it's your favorite pizza. If not, the pizza will be mine before you know it!" Harry approaches YN with a sneaky grin on his face. By turning away from the audience to hide the pizza they would be eating on stage, YN and Harry created needless suspense. — The boy standing next to YN laughs as she says, "Don't let me down, please," into her microphone.

It was YN's preferred pizza, which surprised her. As she crouches next to the fan, YN exclaims, "You are now my favorite person ever, I love you so much." — "You certainly made her happy, I suppose. Sincerely, I believed she would eventually cut off my head." Harry says as he squats down next to YN and receives snarling looks in return.

"Harry, I hate you so much." She pushes him in a playful manner until he falls to his back, at which point she turns to face the fan while grinning widely. — "You have my undying love. I adore you. Because of you, dinner is served!"

"Speaking of Adore You," Harry teases into his microphone as he motions for YN to stand, the upbeat instrumental playing through the speakers.

YN was spotted eating pizza while seated close to her and Harry's band.

Ali, who receives a welcome helping of character development, refuses to treat Rue with kid gloves – yet Domingo plays this role with an underpinning of warmth, ably challenging the stormy Rue. As Rue, Zendaya is essentially here to remind everyone why she won her Emmy. She expertly balances emotion and stoicism, wearing this character like a second skin.

There is minimal plot here, an almost whiplash-inducing change from the regular series, where high-stakes drama constantly crescendos. But this is a perfect departure, a welcome pause in the shimmering chaos. “Trouble Don’t Last Always” is uniquely suited to this moment, as the world finds itself at a standstill, paralytically powerless over disease and mortality. So many of us don’t know where we will spend our holidays, or who will still be here to spend them with us next year. So we sit, unbearably human. And though we may be separated from Ali and Rue by fiction and celluloid and screens, for an hour, it feels as though we are just one booth across, eavesdroppers on a conversation between two vulnerable, beautiful, sick people.” THE INDEPENDENT: “Domingo gives an all-star performance as a tough-love sponsor, but it is Zendaya who remains the show’s linchpin. She appears as she does in series one: a cynical waif with legs scrunched up, knees under her chin, and a hoodie pulled over her head. The 24-year-old gives a magnetic performance; she makes even the most cliched lines, such as “I just don’t plan on being here that long”, somehow stick. When Ali asks Rue how she wants to be remembered by her mum and sister, the next minute of acting is a reminder of why this year Zendaya became the youngest person to win an Emmy for best lead in a drama series. The episode closes on an extended shot of Ali and Rue driving; Bocelli’s “Ave Maria” thunders in the background. But then, her line readings throughout Season One — particularly for the show’s usual narration (another stylistic flourish that’s absent here) — were often underplayed and lacking affect, the better to contrast with the high drama all around Rue, and to illustrate how numb she has become to the horrors of this life. Her face almost always says more than her voice, and that’s true again here.

At one point, Rue quietly admits that she doesn’t see the point in self-improvement, because “I just don’t plan on being here that long.” It pains Ali to hear her speaking so openly about wanting to die, but rather than trying to talk her out of it, he simply asks how she would want her mother and sister to remember her after she’s gone. The camera stays on Zendaya’s face the whole time as the weight of her pain, and her understanding of how she in turn is going to hurt her loved ones, fully takes hold. As the tears begin to flow, she says she’d like them to remember her “as someone who tried really hard to be someone I couldn’t.” It’s a devastating admission, made all the more so because of how simple and unvarnished the presentation is. Obviously, this structure isn’t something Euphoria can deploy in every episode, or even in many of them. There’s a huge cast of characters with stories to service each week, and the series’ hyperactive style is a fundamental part of its DNA. And going the full My Dinner with Andre is much harder than it looks, requiring actors like these two who can be so compelling while so little is happening. But with Zendaya and Domingo, in these extraordinary circumstances, it not only works beautifully, but suggests that, at minimum, Levinson can perhaps take his foot off the gas a bit more often whenever Season Two begins filming.” THE GUARDIAN: “As Rue, broken by what she sees as Jules’ betrayal, Zendaya continues to demonstrate exactly why she so deserved the best actress Emmy she won in September; as the older, wiser Ali, Colman Domingo is simply extraordinary. These needed to be good performances. Although this looks stylish, wearing its Nighthawks inspiration plainly and dwelling on blurry neon lights through glass, all Edward Hopper via a Lana Del Rey filter, it is essentially a conversation about addiction that has to sustain our attention for an hour. When Euphoria is at its best, it is deeply empathic. I did not buy the criticism that it glorified drug-taking; I thought it showed how horrendous adolescence can be, particularly in the digital age, and that nobody could truthfully watch this show and want to emulate any of the behaviour in it. This episode, given space and time to breathe, is a frank discussion about how destructive and damaging addiction can be, all wrapped up in a smart and sympathetic plea for compassion for addicts. Ali and Rue talk about their personal low points. For Ali, this is a story about how many last chances a person can burn through. Rue, devoid of hope, is forced to confront the idea that there may be a little hope left in her yet. It is a touch too long and some of the dialogue is eye-wateringly Euphoria – “For some people, there is no rock bottom, it’s bottomless” – but, for the most part, I was lost in its world and captivated by the back-and-forth, which is frequently as funny as it is grim. Ultimately, its message is one of forgiveness, of others and of oneself, of empathy and understanding. It quietly calls for good will to all men, even whip-smart, heartbroken, navel-gazing teenagers. Perhaps it is not so unfestive, after all.” THE DAILY BEAST: “The writing is strong but demanding—equal parts wrenching and humorous, and full of the kind of earnestness that can sound downright comical coming from the wrong performer. But both Colman Domingo and Zendaya, fresh off her Emmy win this year, are more than up to the task. It feels fitting that Ali chooses poetry as his metaphor for a higher power. In a way, this belief feels like the heart of Euphoria—a series that, like poetry, focuses on meticulous aesthetics and (visual) metaphor to drive home truths that can at times elude plain language.” ROGER EBERT: “Spiralling through a brilliantly written conversation about addiction, revolution, and depression, this is one of the best hours of TV in 2020—an incredibly moving piece that hints at the limitless potential of “Euphoria”’s future. The conversation between Ali and Rue circles her addiction from multiple angles without feeling overly scripted. It’s like a great stage play, and it allows the two performers to really shine. Domingo is an incredible character actor who imbues Ali with just the right amount of earned wisdom and realistic skepticism.

And then there’s Zendaya. She was excellent in season one, but she digs even deeper here than in that Emmy-winning performance. She has a few beats near the end of the episode that are breathtaking, not only in the decisions she makes but in how much room Levinson gives her to feel her way through her own emotions. Rue is angry and demonstrative in parts of this conversation, but she’s mostly listening, thinking, and feeling. It’s more about what she doesn’t say to Ali than what she does. The emotions that she allows to wash over her face and then pull back before approaching melodrama make for such a finely-tuned piece of work.”

Euphoria S2 Episode 5

‼️SPOILERS AHEAD‼️

I know everyone has a lot to say about this, and I am one in those everyone. Before I start, let me just say: ZENDAYA REALLY DESERVES AN EMMY FOR THIS!!!

First off, the start of the episode. It is set in the Bennett’s home. Rue’s mom and Gia knew that she’d been using again. Rue kicks the door until she breaks it. I don’t know about you guys but that reminded me of when Rue had a breakdown and she went to Fez to ask for drugs, it can be found on YouTube if you search: rue and fez door scene.

Like the addict that Rue is, she throws a tantrum, becomes very mad while looking for the suitcase with all the drugs and says a lot of hurtful words to her own mother. Then she realizes that Jules and Elliot are also there and they’re the one who snitched on her to her mom. She insults them too. I must say, I feel like Elliot deserved that (for what he did in the last episode, if yk what I mean). And even if Rue said mean and degrading things to Jules, the latter replies with I love you. Which then Rue replied with: You don’t love me, you love to be loved. Rue also kind of slut shamed and broke up with Jules. Elliot and Jules had no choice but to go. But your boy Elliot had the gall to smoke weed outside the Bennett house.

Then Rue’s mom convinces her to go to the ER, but really is going to bring her to rehab. In this whole episode, Gia (Rue’s sister) is almost just crying. When Rue knew she’s going to be taken to rehab, she bolted and ran in the road, almost getting run over by cars and even caused an accident.

HANG ON THERE, I’LL GET TO MY POINT.

She ran and ran all night. Then, she went to Fez to ask for drugs. Fez seeing Rue’s state, refused to give her anything. And Rue tries to steal grandma’s pills. Fez dragged her out of the house even after Rue pushed him so damn hard. Rue then goes to the Howard house where she made another mess, yet again. I KNOW YOU ALL KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT. And, kudos to Lexi’s observant skills for realizing that Rue is having a relapse and calling to tell Leslie. Rue’s last stop was Lorie’s (drug lady) house where she also ran from.

NOW TO MY POINT:

This indeed is the most chaotic and also stressful episode I’ve watched in this series, but that makes it the best.

I think the point of the whole episode is to show what drugs can do not only to its user, but also to the people around that person. Rue ruined relationships because she wanted drugs and to stay high. She gaslit her sister into letting her smoke weed when what she’s really smoking is opiates. And in order to escape from the Howard house when her mom went to fetch her, Rue opened up the topic about Cassie and Nate, making Maddy angry (she knows that it will happen) but she did it anyway. Leslie is the best mother for trying to do everything to get Rue to let go of her bad habit, even if Rue hurt and shouted at her, she still stayed calm and talked to her child like a mother should.

Addiction is a disease, everyone should be reminded by that. Zendaya showed that with superb acting skills. I felt everything that her character was feeling as she was running in the whole episode. I also think that her running symbolizes what an addict does whenever they do drugs, they run from reality because doing drugs to them, makes life less miserable. And addiction commonly comes with depression. People should not talk about Rue being mean, unbearable and just deserves to die. Because the one who said those mean things, it wasn’t Rue, it’s the drugs talking. Anyone should never let what addicts or drunks say get through their head. It’s the drugs, it’s the addiction that’s talking. What Rue needs is not the insults, but help. She needs to detox, she needs rehab and therapy, and someone who will listen to her as she realizes that drugs won’t make her problems go away.

I just know y'all not on this blog claiming TOM HOLLAND is "woke". Not the same Tom who absolutely refuses to publicly speak up about any social or political issues because he's "just a kid" at TWENTY FOUR years old (his words not mine). Not the same Tom Holland who literally had to be forced to speak up about George Floyd's death by his fanbase who are mostly younger than him. I love Tom but he's far from woke, at least not publicly so let's not even try to make this a narrative

I never said Tom was “woke”.  I said he is “aware”.  Big difference.   Just for the record, I don’t even really like the term “woke”. 🙄  It’s way over-used imo, and many people don’t seem to even know what it really means (especially on Twitter).  Some people also sometimes take their “woke-ness” to almost ridiculous lengths. It’s almost to the point where it’s become a joke these days. 🥴 JMHO. I actually despise the word tbh lol.   I’d rather you just simply be aware, sensitive, and OPEN to learning.  This other stuff that people do just seems fake as idk what.   I’ve already talked at length on my blog (back when that whole stuff was going on last year) about the things that Tom already does to  help various different charities and organizations and yes...BLACK people behind the scenes.  I bet half of the fans who were bashing him had probably never done any charity work or even stepped foot in Africa a day in their lives. 🙄    Is Tom going to be vocal about every single issue? NO.  That’s just not how he usually uses his social media.  He rarely uses his IG or twitter to speak out on social justice issues.  I’ve never seen him speak out about LGBTQ+ issues either, even though I know he has tons of friends in that community.  Never heard him talking about women's’ rights, or abortion, or political matters either.  That’s not his MO.  The funny thing is, I actually feel like Tom def has his thoughts on certain matters, but I also feel like there are some things he just talks about amongst his close friends.  No way Zendaya was dating a guy THAT long if he wasn’t at least aware and sensitive to certain things. This is Zendaya we’re talking about here.  I also don’t think Tuwaine would be such a ride-or-die friend of Tom’s if he felt like Tom was an unaware individual who’s insensitive to racial issues and the things that Tuwaine might go through and experience being a BIG, tall, dark-skinned black man in a predom. white country. Let’s get real.             Could Tom be more vocal about certain issues? YES!  Of course he can. And I hope one day he will be.  He’s going to be 25 soon, so it would be nice to see him being more vocal about certain things like some of his other fellow white male actors in the industry (ie. Matt McGorry, Chris Evans, Nick Robinson, Dylan O’Brien, etc, just to name a few).  

I know Tom’s cautious father has always encouraged him to “lay low” in a lot of things when it comes to Hollywood however. Dom didn’t even want Tom doing Lip Sync Battle lol.  😂  He’s very cautious. He probably doesn’t want Tom alienating his fanbase, or making a fool of himself in the public eye.  I get it.   I mean, on one hand his dad has a point. Some people in the gp don’t like when actors talk about political issues/social justice issues/controversial topics for some reason, even though they  are living on the very same EARTH we’re living on lol.  🙄 Some just want their actors to ACT, and their singers to SING....and leave it at that.  

But I was glad that Tom broke out of his comfort zone and showed his support, even if he was nervous to do so.  Eventually he’s gonna have to stop listening to dad on everything, and make his own choices and decisions lol.  Maybe that was a first step.  Maybe one day Tom will feel more comfortable speaking out on certain issues. But I don’t need celebrities to post a black square on IG to let me know that they are supportive. I watch what they DO.  I also watch what they do AFTER the protests are over.   

And just for the record, I’d actually rather someone remain silent if they feel like they don’t know enough about a topic to speak on it, rather than speak up and say something totally insensitive or (worse) offensive, and then have to back-track their words. 🥴   

I just felt like fans were unnecessarily attacking him for not posting something (even though he posted like 3 days after May 25 IIRC), and were actually taking AWAY from the movement itself.  They were actually showing where their real focus and attention was imo.  Instead of focusing on what happened to this poor man, they were more focused on which celebrities have said something, and which have not. 🙄    I said before, that Tom is one of the last few celebrities people should be calling out.  He at least does some work.  Those fans should have focused on celebrities who are “vocal” on sooo many other topics and causes on social media, but who were eerily SILENT when it came to BLM last summer (*cough* RDJ  *cough*). 😒  

Anyway,  you’re perfectly welcome to believe whatever you want Anon, but  I just felt the attacks were a bit unfair.  I think people were mainly going on emotion.

Some black harries were making fun of ‘Holivia’ back in April and white stans lost it and were blatantly racist and invalidating towards them for a couple hours and even suspended the black stans, it was really awful to watch.

I could go on twitter right now and tweet “Harry goes unseen for weeks but as soon as Olivia is there we see him almost eveyday” which btw is true and id have 50-100 harries in my mentions telling me im a larrie, jealous, ugly and need to “KYS”. They refuse to see and accept a lot of things a lot of the time bc it bursts this imagine they have of him in their head. They do the most pretending to be good supportive stans like they wont stop caring about her once she’s gone….. as they do everyone he’s linked to.

You’re not gonna die for calling him out or pointing out something is weird or off. I’m listening to my wangxian playlist (and procrastinating on watching a documentary for my cultural anthropology class) and having lots of feelings about it so have some rambling about some of my favorite songs (this is gonna be long so most of it is going under a cut):

Without You by Ursine Vulpine, Annaca I think is like perfect for the 16 (13 if we’re going with book) years when wwx was dead. beginning of the song puts me in mind of the end of the bloodbath at nightless city when wwx dies and then his grief in the aftermath of it (this is like my absolute favorite song for them rn I mean the lyrics “can you hear my cry / and oh lullaby / drifting through the sky” definitely makes me think of lwj playing inquiry looking for wwx and the ending lyrics are so good omg: “I don’t wanna live a life without you / I will watch the world burn without you” the whole song is incredible though seriously)

My Medea by Vienna Teng, in addition to being one of favorite songs in general, I think is a great song for wwx, probably during the burial mounds era? “no haven for this heart / no shelter for this child in mazes lost / heaven keep us apart / a curse for every mile of ocean crossed / for I must die for what I’ve done / a twist of fate a desert sun / for I see what I destroy” just gets me every time I listen to it

Tightrope from The Greatest Showman I think is fantastic from lwj’s perspective I mean like the LYRICS “hand in my hand and we promise to never let go / we’re walking a tightrope / high in the sky we can see the whole world down below / we’re walking a tightrope / never sure never know how far we could fall / but it’s all an adventure that comes with a breathtaking view”. it kind of puts me in mind of the single log bridge line

And So My Heart Became a Void by Ursine Vulpine, Annaca is another good tragic one imo, more from wwx’s pov. “oh my love what have I done / there’s nowhere left for us to run / and I was standing in the sunlight / and I can’t bear the sight of you / oh my lover what’s on your mind / you’re caught between two ways of life” just. ugh. I love it

Labyrinthine Heart by Sleepthief (feat. Jody Quine) I think really captures their relationship pre wwx’s death when there are so many obstacles keeping them apart “It’s the loving way / that you say my name all the time / I can feel / night with you by my side / but will darkness release me / I hear you cry / locked away in your cage / and I want to try but I’m caught / in this maze of design” also “through the corridor / yours forever more and you’re mine / I can see / daylight with you by my side / and no walls to enclose me” god at this rate I’m gonna quote the whole song lmao I can’t help it it’s all just so beautiful!

Us vs Them (The City Will End Tonight) by Denmark + Winter is really good post resurrection imo. “it’s us against the world / I won’t let you down” like enough said right? I mean it’s LITERALLY lwj and wwx against the entire cultivation world at one point!

Lovers Death by Ursine Vulpine, Annaca is actually one I go back and forth on a bit because I’m not 100% sure the chorus fits but the VERSES ARE SO GOOD “I’ve seen what love looks like / I’ve seen it’s beauty when it’s alive / I was roaming in it’s paradise / it’s gold it’s blue it’s in the skies / but I am a witness to love’s death / there’s no blood there’s no body there’s nothing left / oh my darling don’t you ever forget I wasn’t prepared for the end” again I think it works really well for nightless city when wwx dies. and listen I will freely admit that I’ve like imagined that whole scene while listening to that song and it is so. fricken. tragic. it just. it just ups the tragedy factor of wwx’s death by a million

Rewrite The Stars from The Greatest Showman with lwj as zac efron and wwx as zendaya. like the thing I love about the live action that puts it at the top for me in terms of favorite adaptation is the whole star crossed lovers thing it has going on between wwx and lwj in wwx’s first life which rewrite the stars captures so well. it specifically puts me in mind of the time during the sunshot campaign up to wwx defecting after the phoenix mountain hunt with lwj trying so hard to help wwx and be there for him even though he doesn’t understand the whole situation (because wwx doesn’t TELL him) and wwx wanting lwj there but also not wanting to hurt him and like lqr doing his best to keep them apart and I could keep going

Carry You by Ruelle and Fleurie is a beautiful somewhat tragic somewhat hopeful love song from lwj to wwx post resurrection imo. “you are not alone / I’ve been here the whole time singing you a song / I will carry you” is the chorus and just UGH lwj always being there to catch wwx when he falls, refusing to leave his side even when it means turning against everything he’s ever known, like I just think it really captures the steadfast devotion he shows wwx, the sheer depths of his love

Closer by Mike Perry, Sonic Avenue, Hot Shade (Feat. Mikayla) is another song that I think captures the pining of their relationship during wwx’s first life, post war. “can we go back to that summer / when we just had each other / I still hear the song in my heart” puts me in mind of reminiscing about their days in cloud recesses, simpler happier times when they didn’t feel like they had the weight of the world on their shoulders. the whole song gives me a bittersweet, longing feeling like I picture wwx lying awake at night in the burial mounds thinking back on those days and trying not to become overwhelmed with longing

Never Look Away by Vienna Teng is another good one. “Let me uncover the silver in your dark hair / the weight of your bones / I want to witness the beauty of your repair / the shape you’ve grown / for you are made of nebulas and novas and night sky / you’re made of memories you bury or live by” I tend to think of it being from lwj to wwx but it also works the other way imo as well but like these LYRICS GUYS “so if you’re out there in the cold / I’ll cover you in moonlight / if you’re a stranger to your soul / I’ll bring you to your birthright / I want the storm inside you awoken now / I want your warm bright eyes / to come back to me / and hold on to me / you know that I won’t lie”

that’s not the whole playlist but these are my current favorites (especially the ones by ursine vulpine with annaca performing vocals I highly recommend the whole album it’s only 5 songs and they’re all amazing)

“It’s kind of beautiful,” Arden said as she gazed through the window. “You know, if you ignore the ruins and abandoned villages and block out the dark, swirling tendrils of the Night Veil in the background.”

Arden. The one thing Asher did not think to factor into his scheming, and the one that probably should have come first before anything else. How long she’d been spying on their midnight meetings, he hadn’t asked. He’d been surprised and also not surprised in the slightest when she’d stumbled out from behind a pile of supplies in the back of the caravan after they’d made it safely through the Deadlands.

“You can stop glaring at me, Ash. It’s not going to change my being here,” she said sharply. 

He hadn’t realized he was doing it. “But it makes me feel better.”

“I want to save mother just as much as you do,” she said, crossing her arms. Then she glared at him. “You were just going to leave me there. To sit and do nothing and watch her die.”

Asher had felt the same, which was indeed why he had taken matters into his own hands.

“How would you feel if Andrik had snuck off on a secret mission to save mother and all of Anveria without you?”

Asher cut her a pointed glance. “Andrik? Our brother Andrik? That would require him to take precious time away from deciding which asscheek he prefers to put weight on while practicing how to sit on the throne.”

some fun facts about Arden Val’Doren!

She’s Asher’s half-sister (same mom, different dads) and she’s mixed race. At nineteen years old, she’s the youngest of the three royal siblings. (Andrik is the oldest and the crown prince.)

(Asher’s father died shortly after he was born. His mother spearheaded relief efforts for fury attacks along the Anveria/Elismare border and the king wanted to work with her. A couple years later they got married.)

Arden and Asher share a passion for adventure and knowledge. Where Asher is able to apply this directly to his everyday life, Arden takes to books. As a princess, she has a different set of responsibilities than Asher, although she has always longed to go with him.

She’s bisexual, but she’s never told anyone. Asher and Arden are closer to each other than they are with their older brother, so Asher figures it out. But he hasn’t told her and she doesn’t know he knows. She really wants to tell him, and he just wants her to be comfortable enough to say it if/when she’s ready or never at all.

Magic has been banned for almost a century at the beginning of TNV, but because of Arden’s fierce love of books and learning absolutely everything and especially things she’s not supposed to know, she ends up knowing more about magic and its history than most of the people left in Elismare.

She’s a huge animal lover! When she’s not researching the cure or how to break the curse, she spends time in the stables and attempting to win over Vega’s teacup dragon, Zazz. (This is how she + Vega initially bond. Vega is immediately smitten.)

She isn’t supposed to be on Asher’s secret mission to Elismare. She overhears his plan and sneaks into his caravan. He has no idea she’s there until they’re all screaming and trying to get across the Deadlands before the Night Veil reappears at dawn.

As two women who snuck off to fight in a war, Everly and Vega are super impressed by this later on.

She desperately wants to learn how to fight, at least to defend herself. Anveria isn’t as progressive as Elismare, and as a princess, her father refuses to allow it and gives her lots of guards when she needs them instead. Asher’s taught her a couple tricks and even gifts her a dagger under the guise of it being an “ornamental artifact”  he received from some exotic foreign kingdom she’s pretty sure he made up. She begs Everly and Vega to teach her, so Everly conveniently delegates to Vega.

Cue Vega teaching Arden swords and archery:  Arden: is this how you hold it? Vega: *has to put her arms around Arden to reposition* Vega: *sweats* Everly: *smirks in the distance*

Sony: one of the only major companies outside of Disneys sphere of influence, created one of the best animated films this world has EVER seen using some of the most scorned art styles (graffiti, rap, comic) with a black main character, still told peter parkers story (twice!) over the course of the movie, refusing to partner with Disney bc Disney refused to split profit with them fairly so they could pay their employees.

MCU: didnt touch on the main plot of peter parker once in the most recent movies (specifically his comic origin), made him a watered down version of Miles right down to the side kick, became another tony st*rk worshipping franchise to promote the rest of the mcu, owned by a company seemingly intent on ruling the world that doesn't value its creators or workers, many of whom live in abject poverty and even die from lack of good income

Thats not to say the marvel movies aren't good, or that I don't love Tom Holland and Zendaya or any of the other actors (trust me I do, they're fantastic actors).

But also I'm not mad about this development. The MCU has become the tony st*rk show and its all anyone cares about. I'm here for Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and the rest of the spiderverse characters. If I wanted the other marvel groupies, I'd watch their movies.

Not to say, again, that you can't have a crossover. Thats fine. But if thats all that the movies are, there's nothing unique or different about them

(These are just my opinions, if you disagree, thats totally fine. Don't need to get mad about it, just move on. If you do feel the need to get pissed off at me, I'll just block you. I can see both sides here, but in the long run, I'm here for spiderman and spiderman alone. And thats not what we were getting).

okay let’s get this out of the way: petermj were absolutely adorable and I love them so much, hands down the best part of the whole film, +1500 points for that off the bat

Ned & Betty were really cute too but then they broke up :((( so that cancelled it out so 0 points for that overall

the whole snap/5 year time jump/blip thing was rly awkwardly handled and I still hate everything about it but ig that’s endgame’s fault that’s just kind of spilled over onto this, and they didn’t focus on it too much so it actually didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would

what the fuck was that bit with the grown adult woman forcing the 17 year old peter to take off his clothes in front of her... Yikes^tm, -200 points

-300 points for May and Happy as well like hello uncle Ben did not die for this (I did love happy being in love with may and may just being like “it was a summer fling we’re not dating” shhdjsjdhd so I guess +10 for that)

speaking of, where the fuck was Ben, like I thought maybe they just didn’t want to rehash the whole origin story in hoco bc everyone’s seen it twice already and they just wanted to jump straight into the plot which was fine but I thought they’d come back to it in the other movies but no...... like they reference it enough that it’s clear Ben existed but then refuse to actually make him explicitly Peter’s motivation and then make Tony his uncle Ben-figure instead for some reason and make everything about Tony’s death........ -400 points for that

this isn’t really a criticism of the movie specifically and more the mcu in general I guess but they keep trying to make Tony into the MCU’s Unproblematic King while simultaneously having him be personally responsible for like half its problems sjdhjsfjjdjddj

like the irony of having Peter’s main development in the movie be trying to live up to Tony’s legacy with the movie trying to emphasise how amazing and great Tony was while also the villain and the problems Peter’s trying to fix being a direct result of Tony’s actions

also Tony’s whole stance in civil war was that superheroes need to be put in check and can’t just run around with all the power they have and do whatever they want, and then he just gives a 17 year old kid who has not signed the accords and has absolutely no fucking clue how to use it access to all his technology including being able to CALL A DRONE STRIKE ON RANDOM CIVILIANS without even pressing a button like hello?????? make it make sense

tony: we need to be put in check

tony: EXCEPT this one kid who I’ve known a couple of years he can do whatever he wants and have access to some of the most deadly weapons and technology on the planet because I like him :)

and then they had fury (or Talos, I guess) be like “stark gave you access to multi-billion dollar technology and you messed it up you’re clearly not ready for this” like yes CLEARLY he’s not ready CLEARLY a 17 year old kid should not be trusted with this but why the fuck are you yelling at HIM when he didn’t choose to have it and actively DOESN’T want any part of this and also was never given any instructions about how it works or that it would call a drone strike with barely any warning like hello?????? this whole business made me almost as mad as Tony’s rant at Steve in endgame, -900 points for all the Tony Stark bullshit

I actually really liked the mysterio illusion action sequences, I thought they were both really cool especially the second one where Peter’s figured out how to sense them and the illusion like blends with real life, +500 for those bc I think they along with petermj were the best bits of the movie

love all the actors - Jake was great as mysterio and tom & zendaya had great chemistry as petermj so +50 for that (good & made the movie enjoyable to watch but not enough to redeem it)

also I love that they didn’t have Tom wear tall shoes like rdj & he was shorter than mj (he had to like lean up to kiss her I’m 🥺🥺) so +5 for that i guess

would’ve really liked ned to have a bigger role & see him take up the “guy in the chair” role more and actually have him help Peter out, all he really did was date Betty and be a target for mysterio

so overall 265 points for the main film. this is a completely arbitrary number that doesn’t really mean anything because I haven’t rated any other movies to compare it to but basically overall judgement: okay overall, had some good bits (petermj scenes, illusion action sequences) but a lot of things that really frustrated me as well. definitely not as good as homecoming. if it weren’t for the cast I definitely would have enjoyed it a lot less.

mid-credit scene: petermj are adorable and own my heart but then this was immediately cancelled by Peter’s identity being revealed. -10000 points, thanks I hate it. so much. SO MUCH. currently just pretending it doesn’t exist and hoping they somehow retcon it in the next film because I just hate it, and just made me leave the movie on a bad note after actually mostly enjoying the rest of it despite it being a bit of a mess.

but yeah if you ignore that my overall judgement is mostly enjoyable but also very infuriating because I feel like it had w lot of potential that it just didn’t live up to

Rising Stars

A/N: Tom is 21 in this fic, you’re 19. All movies you’ve featured in are purely fictional and if they’re the names of real movies, ignore that.

Not in any way connected to ‘Protection’ but this was in my drafts so... Enjoy!

Tom sighs and rests his chin on his hand, staring boredly at the movie screen. He’s watching some movie with Haz and his brothers and frankly, he’s enjoyed some quite more than this one. However, Harrison seems to be enjoying the movie, so he’s at least pretending to be invested. It rather seems to be the same sort of story—girl meets boy, they fall in love, they have a fight, they kiss and make up. Along with some murder and guns, which is what Harrison is chuckling at.

Then the main character’s best friend comes onto the screen. Tom’s eyes widen. The girl is… absolutely gorgeous. She should’ve had the starring movie role instead of the supporting character, even if the main role is being played by a much bigger name than yours.

He can’t help but marvel at how well you play your character, who’s name is Maria. You never even think about breaking character, he can tell, or maybe you’re just acting like yourself. Either way, Tom’s in awe. How could someone this gorgeous be so talented? There’s gotta be something you can’t do, but at one point you have to sing karaoke with the main character and your voice is stunning. Nope, you’re perfect.

All too soon, the movie is over, ending with the two main characters getting together and being happy. Tom grunts unhappily. He’d have liked to see you one more time.

“Dude!” Harrison laughs. “You were drooling over Maria!”

Tom immediately blushes. “I was not!”

“You so were!” Sam chimes in, his nose crinkling with disgust. “I saw you when she was singing!”

“You guys are so annoying,” Tom grumbles and tries to discreetly wipe off his chin just in case there is something on there. Harrison snorts.“Maybe you’ll end up in a movie with her,” he suggests optimistically. Tom shakes his head. That could never happen—he’s a good enough actor, sure, but you’re fantastic.

“Her name’s Y/N Y/L/N. She’s nineteen years old, only recently started acting,” Harry says, reading off his phone screen. “She was in a movie called ‘Evanescence’, which is supposed to be really good.”

Tom makes a mental note of that before saying loudly, “You guys are being ridiculous. I thought she was pretty, but I’m not about to watch every movie she’s ever been in.”

Which is exactly what he does. You’ve only been in five: ‘Evanescence’; in which you were the main character and it’s about a girl who is unable to be remembered by anyone she doesn’t see after more than a few days ‘cuz at the end it’s revealed that you’re a ghost, ‘Idols’; which was your first movie, in which you played a more or less important supporting character in a society that entirely lives underground but you were only in that one for about twenty minutes, ‘Jade Necklaces’; a movie in which you played the sidekick again in a story about a girl who sells jade necklaces on the black market, ‘Stormy’; a film about a girl with anxiety, and the one that Tom had watched with Harrison, which is called ‘Scars’.

Tom doesn’t want to call himself a stalker, exactly, but he does watch all your movies, and looks at your Instagram daily (he wants to watch your story but he doesn’t want the off chance of you seeing that he saw it), and he finds out that you have two brothers; one younger named Noah and one older named Caleb.

Harrison, however, repeatedly calls Tom a stalker, especially when he sees Tom’s wallpaper: a picture from ‘Jade Necklaces’ in which you’re wearing a sundress and laughing on a beach.

Tom nearly freaks out when he sees your most recent Instagram post: a small Spider-man plushie with a head as big as your hand next to your cat with the caption ‘Peter Parker isn’t dead because I say so fight me, I cried during Loki’s (faked) death and That Scene’. He hadn’t realized you like Marvel, let alone the character he plays!

Harry walks in on Tom on his bed, staring at the picture as he debates whether or not to like it. It’s a post about him, right, so it wouldn’t be super weird to like it, like liking a regular post of someone you don’t even know that has nothing to do with him. Of course, you’re also a movie star, so lots of people like every single thing you post, but still.

“You’ve been staring at that same picture for the last two hours,” Harry says matter-of-factly. “Just thought you should know.”

“Should I like it?” Tom groans with desperation. “Harry, help me!”

Harry shrugs and leaves the room.

“Thanks for your help!” Tom shouts after him, patting Tessa when she moves.

“I know you,” you say excitedly when you meet your co-star, Zendaya Coleman, before one of the readings for your upcoming movie. “You were in Spider-man: Homecoming! I loved that movie!” You then blush, flustered when you realize you hadn’t introduced yourself. “I mean, hi, I’m Y/N Y/L/N and I’m going to be your co-star.”

Zendaya smiles at you brightly, shaking your hand firmly. “I’m Zendaya and it’s fine, I’ve seen some of your movies too! You’re so talented. I can’t wait to work with you. My friend is going to freak out when he hears about this; he absolutely loves you.”

You blush a deep scarlet, letting out an awkward chuckle. “I’m really not that good. You’ve definitely had more experience than me.”

Zendaya shrugs and smiles. “Agree to disagree?” After your nod, she says, “I’ve actually not read the books for this, but I read the script. Have you, yet?”

Your eyes light up. “Oh, yeah! Actually, it’s a trilogy, so we’ll probably be called back if it’s a good enough success. And I’ve actually read the books. I loved them, but I nearly refused to act in the movies—too many series are ruined by film adaptations, you know?” You fake-shudder. “Don’t get me started on the Percy Jackson movies.”

“I know, right?” Zendaya bursts out. “They made me so angry!”

“Exactly!” You point at her. “It would have been amazing if they had actually had at least a moderately good grip on the gist of the books, but they didn’t even deserve to be called Percy Jackson. Actually, they would have been good as standalone films about the Greek gods, ‘cuz the screenwriters literally took the names of the main characters and that was it.” You blush again. “I’m sorry, that was off-topic.”

Zendaya waves a hand nonchalantly.

“The scripts for this are actually pretty on point, except in the book, your character, Alit,… dies,” you say apologetically. “From the Killer. In the second book, the base is bombed so it’s mostly about my character, Jag, who’s working in our makeshift base in the forest, and Matthew as he tries to break into the facility to get the virus. It ends on a cliffhanger of him being caught. In the third book, he makes it out but without the virus, but during the middle it turns out that he was exposed to it in the lab and didn’t die, so he’s immune, and Catherine manages to make an antidote out of it but… Jag dies too.” You laugh. “The author was pretty ruthless. Anyways, Matthew takes out President 67 and figures out that it was actually his mom all along—she’d faked her death to leave him and his dad. I don’t know what they’re going to do with your character, but your character and Matt will most likely get together at the end—it was implied during the first book that they liked each other and would have gotten together if Alit hadn’t died.”

Zendaya nods thoughtfully. “That sounds sweet.”

“Hopefully the next two movies stick to the books as much as this one did,” you say, smiling. Then you wiggle your eyebrows. “I’m actually disappointed you’re not playing Catherine, because she and Jag get together before Jag dies. Not many people get to say they’ve kissed Zendaya Coleman.”

Zendaya laughs loudly and just then, the director walks in. “Okay, guys, today we’re going to be reading through scenes one to ten. Let me know if you guys need a break!” Everyone shuffles to their seats. Your eyes skim over the people you’re going to be knowing very well, taking in the wide age ranges sitting at the table.

“Opening scene: Family sitting at a dinner table eating mush,” someone reads outloud. You have to smirk at that.

“Papa, have you heard from Uncle Mick lately?” a small child asks.

“He said he would be gone still until Monday,” a man reads.

And so it begins.

You and your friends are all watching ‘Spider-man: Homecoming’, which includes Zendaya and Ashley, the girl who plays Catherine in your upcoming movie. Your friends are all sufficiently awed by Z, who willingly takes photos with them, before you all settle down to watch the movie. You and your closest friend from school, Vivien, exchange excited glances. You two are humongous Marvel fans. She loves to make edits out of clips from Marvel movies, mainly about Bucky, but one edit that had been about Spider-man had gotten commented on by the actual Tom Holland.

He’d only commented ‘This is sick!’ but still, the two of you had squealed excitedly when she’d gotten the notification. You swear you’d nearly had a heart attack. Tom Holland is literally the sweetest thing ever, and so nice and talented, and yes, extremely hot. You’ve got a picture of him shirtless from the scene in his room during ‘Homecoming’ and it’s probably a bit creepy but he’s honestly gorgeous.

Your other friend, Athena, who is just as obsessed with Tom Holland as you, squeals with you when you see him on the screen for the first time without the suit on. Zendaya just smirks at the two of you and grins when MJ appears on-screen.

“That’s you,” you sing, drawing out the word ‘you’ and hugging a pillow to your chest.

“I know,” she says, grinning, and starts texting Harrison. The basement is filled with giggles and squeals the rest of the night, along with Z occasionally interjecting to tell funny stories about filming the movie.

About halfway through ‘Homecoming’ you stop and stare at her.

“Yes?” she asks, suppressing a laugh at the dumbfounded look on your face.

“You know Tom Holland,” you whisper and then put your face in your hands. “Oh my gosh, you’re so telling him about how ridiculous I am!”

“Ooh, thanks for the idea,” she teases.

“Z!” you squeal, lunging for her phone. She holds it out of your reach, shushing you.

“The movie’s playing!”

You cross your arms and pout but turn back to the movie just in time for Peter to be buried under rubble by the vulture. You scowl.

“Remember when this was the worst thing that happened to Peter Parker?” Athena asks.

“‘Infinity War’ is not to be mentioned in this household,” you command.

“She’s been like this for a while,” Vivien whispers loudly to Zendaya.

“That’s because he deserved better!” you say heatedly.

Athena holds up her hands. “Does it look like anyone else is arguing with you?”

Zendaya: Haz, you WOULD NOT BELIEVE who’s my costar and obsessed with tom

Harrison: Storm Reid?

Zendaya: What? No

Harrison: Rowan Blanchard?

Zendaya: NO

Zendaya: Y/N Y/L/N

Zendaya: We just have to think of something

Zendaya: Hey Y/N, wanna go hiking?

Y/N: Sure, Z! When? How’re ur scenes doing?

Zendaya: its fun but a lot of work! I might invite some of my other friends too, is that cool? And i was thinking next saturday

Y/N: Yep, that’s fine.

Zendaya: bring noah too, all right?

Y/N: I’ll see if i can take him

Haz: Hey tom wanna go hiking with z and some of her friends?

Tom: sure, when

Haz: idk maybe next saturday?

Tom: that works, i’ll see u guys then

Haz: bring harry, sam, and paddy too, one of her friends is bringing their younger sibling

Tom: got it

Zendaya: Did he say yes?

Haz: Yeah, did she?

Zendaya: Yep! Jeez, i can’t wait to see her face. She is literally so smitten with him

Haz: I bet Tom’s worse.

You and Ashley have hardly been able to look each other in the eyes recently without bursting into fits of giggles. Having to kiss one of your friends is definitely a lot more awkward than you thought it would be, and trying to do it while pretending to be injured is another thing entirely.

“Scene thirty-nine, take five!” the director yells.

Ashley fixes you with a serious look. You can’t stop yourself from laughing at the sheer awkwardness of the situation.

“Y/N, please!” the director shouts, rubbing his face with his hands.

“Sorry, sir,” you say, trying and failing to mask your features into one of indifference. “Note to self: ask to film the kissing scenes before I see my ‘partner’ streaking across the set.”

Ashley colors and laughs as well, both of you glancing over at the actor who plays Matthew, who rubs the back of his neck sheepishly.

“Please!” the director asks again and you two both quickly school your expressions back into that of seriousness. “Scene thirty-nine, take six!”

Ashley stares at you seriously, putting down the unused bandages. “Jag… you don’t have to be last in line to be helped. You can be selfish every once in a while.”

“Soldiers aren’t selfish,” you say stiffly, remembering that Jag has a nasty graze on her left side, so you lean a bit to the left. You keep your eyes on the wall but sneak a glance at her when she turns away.

“Are you a soldier 24/7?” Ashley asks, putting her hand on your cheek under the guise of checking the fake gash on your forehead. You blink slowly, staring up at her with an expression akin to the one you’d use if you ever saw Tom Holland. “Is that all you are?”

“Isn’t it?” you whisper and then Ashley puts her other hand on your cheek and presses her lips to yours. You stiffen, eyes wide, before slowly letting them flutter shut. Your hands rise to her waist.

“And cut!” the director shouts, not a moment too late. You can’t help yourself from breaking into loud guffaws and Ashley does the same. “Come on guys, be mature…” he sighs. You wave a hand at him, your eyes watering.

Noah is bouncing off the doors of the car, excited that you’re letting him sit in the front seat for the first time in his life.

“These are my friends, so behave,” you say sternly after you pull up to the start of the trail. “We’ll eat later, so make sure you have snacks, and don’t forget your stick.”

He nods impatiently, holding his lacrosse stick tightly in his fist, and shoulders his Avengers drawstring bag. “Can we go?”

“We’re going to wait for my friends,” you remind him. “Wanna throw?”

You two throw with your sticks for twenty minutes before he gets bored and pulls a small Nerf football out of his bag. You’ve only just started throwing with that before Zendaya pulls up, waving wildly. You wave back, giving Noah a perfect opportunity to hit you in the face with the football.

He gulps when you glare at him and points to your friend. “Don’t you need to behave?” He throws your words back at you.

You wag a finger at him. “Not cool, mister.”

“Okay, so I think my friends already started hiking, so we can head up,” Z calls once she’s close enough, checking her watch. “We’re going to meet them at the top and then hike along the top for a while before coming back. That cool?”

Noah nods at her and scampers ahead, instantly forgetting about his bag, stick, and football. Rolling your eyes, you scoop up his stuff and trail after him, chatting with Z about how weird it is to kiss your friends.

The hike isn’t long, and before long you can see the opening of the trees to the top. You’d dumped Noah’s stuff on him a while back, and he’s still bursting with energy despite having to lug it up the trail and quite a bit ahead of you and your friend. You’re a little out of breath but not too badly.

A small boy runs to greet you three, accompanied by a grey dog. You immediately coo at the sight of it, crouching down to let it barrel into your legs. Zendaya rolls her eyes and leaves you there, scratching at the dog’s belly.

“Hey, Tom!” she greets her friend but not too loudly so you don’t hear. “Hey Haz!”

They both greet her.

“Where’s Tessa?” Tom asks awkwardly, running a hand through his hair. Normally she doesn’t run off, and if she gets lost it’ll ruin the whole trip.

Zendaya rolls her eyes. “Oh, my friend’s petting her. She loves dogs.”

“I bet Tessa’s bothering her, I’ll go get her,” the boy mutters and jogs down the path. A girl with Y/H/C is crouching down to pet Tessa, cooing at her. A lacrosse stick is at her side.

You look up when you hear the footsteps approaching, and nearly have a heart attack.

Summary: Reader is an actress who is cast in the second Spiderman film. While filming, Reader’s boyfriend admits some harsh news right before an emotional scene between Peter and Reader’s character. Tom notices that something is wrong and eventually comforts and cheers her up. This is somewhat platonic but can really be taken any way. Mostly angst but some really cute fluff

Notes: In light of the new Spiderman movie that is coming out in like, two days, here’s a little thing that I’ve been thinking of. I might do a small follow up one shot if you guys want! Feedback is super appreciated, too. Enjoyyy! 

PART TWO

"Sorry babe, I had to do a scene but I should be free for the next hour or so. Facetime?" 

 "Sure." 

 You excitedly pulled the phone away from your face and pressed the 'Facetime' button, your boyfriends face quickly popping up on the screen. 

 "Hi there, stranger!" you called out enthusiastically. 

 His expression, not quite matching yours, replied with a sombre, "Hey." 

 "Is everything alright?" 

You had been away from your hometown for months. Ever since you had been casted in the second Spiderman film as (Y/C/N), the new girl at Midtown High, your normal life had slowly disappeared. You couldn’t lie, everything was absolutely amazing. You and your cast mates clicked immediately and the perks that came with being in a Marvel movie were almost endless. 

Your boyfriend was still around, though. The two of you had made the effort to make this long distance thing work and so far, it had. You took every chance you had to fly home and see him and there was only a month left of filming. Soon enough, you'd be home in each others arms.

“I...” he let out a sigh. “No, it’s not, (Y/N).”

Your heart skipped a beat in anticipation. Oh no. You knew that tone. Of course relationships don’t always work out but you thought that yours had been going so well. Did you miss something? Did you do something? ....did he do something?

“What’s going on?” you said after a moment of silence.

“I don’t want to sugarcoat this... but I know you’ve been under a lot of stress now that filming is wrapping up pretty soon so I don’t really know how to say it...” he sighed. “I can’t do this anymore, (Y/N). You’re just gone all the damn time and there’s this girl--”

“Wait, what?” you cut him off with a deadly whisper. “Have you been... seeing other people?” 

The silence coming from the other end told you everything. Your eyes became glassy as tears threatened to spill upon your cheeks. You set the phone down as you leaned on a table that was in your trailer. A million things were running through your mind but you just couldn’t believe that someone you had put so much trust in could just turn around and screw you over like that. 

“(Y/N), please. Listen to me for a--”

A knock could be heard from the door of the trailer and in came Tom Holland, looking as smiley as ever as he waved off someone he was talking to before giving his attention to you.

“Hey (Y/N/N), they told me to tell you to come down to the costume trailer...” he gave you a confused look. “Are you okay?”

“Who is that?” your boyfriend, well, now ex-boyfriend, called from the phone. 

You snatched the device and quickly ended the call before pressing the palms of your hands to your eyes. “Just dandy,” you lied before hopping off the table and uncovering your eyes. “Sorry, what did you need?”

“Lunch is over in about half an hour and we’re starting off with a scene between the two of us. They asked me to come get you,” Tom explained, not quite believing the fake composure you were putting on.

“Alright, thanks. I’ll be over in a minute.” You flashed him a smile as he returned it and quietly left your trailer. 

A giant sigh left your lips while you gathered everything you needed. Your phone was going off with text messages from your ex before you aggressively turned it off altogether. You were holding up well but it wouldn’t be long before all of your bottled emotions would explode and create a shit show. Until then, you swiped up your water bottle as you hastily left your trailer and headed for the costume trailer. 

“Okay so, for this scene, (Y/C/N) just watched her older brother die much like how it was for Peter and Uncle Ben. Her and Peter had made plans to work on their history project together and he finds her crying, right?” the director asked, just making sure you were still with her. 

You nodded even though you would rather be in your trailer, maybe eating a tub of ice cream and maybe crying on Zendaya’s shoulder but no. You refused to be unprofessional so here you were -- clad in an oversized sweater, hair thrown up in a strategically messy bun with waterproof mascara coating your eyelashes.

“Awesome,” she said with a smile. “And I want it to be raw. Don’t worry about what you look like because we’re not looking for pretty crying where there are a few tears before you throw yourself on the bed. I want the real kind where your eyes feel like they’re going to explode and your lips are stuck in this perpetual frown and everything just hurts, you know?

You took a deep breath before your lips quirked up in a sort of half grin. “Got it,” you said before taking your spot on the set. 

You leaned on side of your characters bed and pulled one of your knees up to your chest and the other leg laid straight as you held a pillow in your arms. The props people set crumpled up tissues around your body but you didn’t pay them any mind as you got into character. 

“Quiet on the set!” the director yelled. 

You couldn’t even think of what (Y/C/N) was going through. Your mind kept wandering back to what had happened only an hour ago. You couldn’t help but get angry, not only at your ex but also at yourself for believing that this long distance relationship could even work. It didn’t take very long for the tears to come rushing back to your face and this time, you just let go. 

The thoughts and voices in your mind became too overwhelming as you felt your cheeks becoming wet. Your face bunched up as you tried to hold back a sob but you did not prevail as you let out a cry while throwing the pillow across the room. Noises and sniffles came from your throat as you clawed at the collar of your sweater. You had completely forgotten you were filming a movie until you heard a door creak open. 

“Mom, I-I really don’t w-want...” you said before turning your head and stopping your words. “P-Peter. I... oh god.”

You scrambled up to your feet before picking up the tissues that littered the floor and threw them in the trash. You wiped your tears with the sleeve of your sweater, not quite sure what to do with him standing in front of you. “W-What... What are you doing here?” 

“Your um, dad let me up. I said we had a history project to do but then he told me... yeah. I just wanted to know if you were okay. --i mean, of course you’re not okay but i-it.. it gets better, I promise,” he said. 

Your hand balled up into a fist at his words. “How the hell would you know?” you angrily questioned. “How do you know what it feels like to lose your brother? Your best friend? Someone who shouldn’t have even died in the first place?” you snarled. “You don’t get to come into my room just to try and feed me lies, Peter! You can’t help me. No one can. He’s gone and he’s not coming back,” your voice broke as you started to cry again.

 “Just leave.” 

Peter was dumbstruck as you got angrier. “Leave,” you whispered once more as you watched him stride towards you and pull you into his chest. “Leave, leave, leave...” you sobbed as he held you tighter. 

You slowly gave up as your body shook. Peter led you to your bed and held you as you cried, rubbing his hands up and down your arms and back in an effort to soothe you. 

“That’s where you’re wrong, (Y/C/N),” he spoke, tucking your head under his chin. “My parents were taken from me when I was a really small kid. And that really sucked. Hell, I barely remember them. Then I started living with Aunt May and Uncle Ben and they basically became my parents, you know? I loved -- love them.... and next thing you know, Uncle Ben died. Everyone keeps telling me to this day that it wasn’t my fault and I never believed them. I still don’t. Not really, anyway,” Peter let out a shuddered sigh.

“The point is... I didn’t let any of that stop me from... being who I am today. If anything, it made me want to be a.. good person, even more. All of this sadness and hurt that you’re feeling right now? It won’t ever really go away but you learn to live with it. And it’ll be okay. Maybe not now, maybe not tomorrow and maybe not in a few months but it will. I can promise you that.”

Your tears had subsided as you listened to Peter’s speech. Somewhere in the midst of it all, the two of you had laid yourselves on the bed with your head on his chest and his arms wrapped around you. The actress in you knew that the cameras were still rolling but you couldn’t help but find comfort in those words. You shifted your position before giving Peter a light squeeze and snuggling into his side. 

“Thanks,” you whispered, staring off into the distance. 

“No problem.”

The camera stayed on the both of you for a moment before panning to the window that led to a green screen.

“And cut! (Y/N) and Tom that was absolutely incredible. Let’s reset, do a few more takes and we’ll call it a day for this scene!” 

You closed your eyes for a brief moment before pushing off of Tom and sitting on the edge of the bed, your back facing all the cameras and lights. 

“Are you sure that you’re okay?” Tom asked, draping an arm over your shoulders. 

You shook your head before he pulled you into a hug. “He cheated on me,” you whispered into his shoulder. 

“I’m gonna kill him,” your co-star growled in which you let out a laugh. 

“It’s fine,” you said, pulling away and looking into his beautiful brown eyes. “I think I’m gonna be okay,” you sighed. “I mean, I’m filming this awesome movie on this phenomenal set with crazy talented people,” your hand reached up to cup the side of his neck as a soft smile was placed on your lips.

[IMG=99A] Ok, guys this will be a Spoiler Review for Sony/ Marvel Studios SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING. Yes i will talk about the plot points of the movie, so Spoiler Warning if you haven’t seen the movie yet. First thing first, I would like to thank Sony and Marvel Studios for inviting me and my co-workers from Atlanta Classic Comics to see the Pre-Screening of the movie. So after the plots I will talk about what I thought about the movie, the cast, and the direction I want it to lead for the next film. [IMG=9BK] Back in 2012, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and the federal government created the U.S. Department of Damage Control (D.O.D.C.), driving salvage company owner Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton) out of business. Toomes convinces his colleagues to not surrender the Chitauri technology already scavenged from the Battle of New York and use it to further a criminal agenda to sale them to illegal arm dealers to the streets of New York. Five years later, we see Peter Parker being recruited by Tony Stark to go to Berlin, Germany. While being escorted by Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau), he decided to do a video diary on his adventures with the Avengers. Following the Avengers' internal dispute (Captain America Civil War), Peter resumes his studies after Stark tells him he is not yet ready to become an Avenger. Over the objections of his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), Peter quits his school's decathlon team in order to spend more time focusing on his "Stark Industries internship", which is a cover for his crime fighting activities as Spider-Man. [IMG=JP8] One night, after preventing a bank robbery and saving the owner & his cat from an explosive corner store, Peter returns to his Queens apartment only for his best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) to discover his secret identity. During the next day at school Ned kept asking what is like to be Spider-Man. While in the gym while Ned and Peter were exercising, Flash Thompson (Tony Revolori), was egging on that Peter didn't have time to be part of the decathlon and just picking on him because he believe Parker is a loser. So Ned screamed out that Peter knows Spider-Man, who Liz (Laura Harrier, and Peter love interest) have a crush on and invited both Ned and Peter to her party if he can get Spider-Man to come. [IMG=7QH] On that night, before Peter could show off being Spider-Man at the party, he comes across Toomes' associates Herman Schultz (Bokeem Woodbine) and Jackson Brice (Logan Marshall-Green) who were selling Chitauri weaponry to local gangster Aaron Davis (Donald Glover). When he tries to intervene, Peter nearly loses his life at Toomes' hands and is rescued by Stark (well technically he was rescued by an empty Iron Man suit, while Tony was operating on it from another country). Toomes later kills Brice for jeopardizing the operation and promoted Schultz as the new Shocker. After retrieving a Chitauri weapon left behind by Brice and Schultz, Peter works with Ned to remove the power core. A tracking device leads Schultz to Midtown School, but Peter and Ned manage to evade him. After planting his own tracking device on Schultz and learning that it leads to Virginia, Peter rejoins the decathlon team and accompanies them to Washington, D.C. for Nationals. [IMG=ZZI] Working with Ned, Peter disables the tracker implanted in his Spider-Man suit and unlocks all its secret features. He later tries to stop Toomes from stealing weapons from a D.O.D.C. truck, but ends up being overpowered and trapped inside the truck, causing him to miss Nationals. While in the D.O.D.C facility he was discovering what the suit can do and was talking to the suits AI which he named K.A.R.E.N. (voiced by Jennifer Connelly). When he discovers that the Chitauri power core is unstable, Peter tracks Ned to the Washington Monument, arriving just as the core explodes and traps Ned in an elevator. While Michelle (Zendaya) walked up to him to tell her friends were trapped in the monument and evading local authorities, Peter manages to save Ned and fellow classmate Liz before the elevator plummets. [IMG=JHM] When returning to New York City, Peter persuades Davis to reveal Toomes' whereabouts (which is one of my favorite funny scenes, and i can't wait to talk about in the next post). While confronting Toomes and his associates at the Staten Island Ferry, Peter captures the group's new buyer Mac Gargan (Michael Mando, and hopefully in the future films we will see) while Toomes escapes after a malfunctioning weapon tears the ferry in half. Stark appears in the flesh, and this time he helps Peter save the passengers before he took the suit away from him for his recklessness and disobeying his orders. [IMG=9GW] While picking up Liz for The Midtown's Annual Homecoming Dance, Peter discovers that she is the daughter of Adrian Toomes. While Toomes was giving both Peter and Liz a ride to the dance, he deduce Peter's secret identity, while they were talking about Peter's schedule and internship with Tony Stark. Toomes threatens retaliation if he continues to interfere with his plans. During the dance, Peter realizes Toomes is planning to hijack a D.O.D.C. plane transporting weaponry from Avengers Tower to the team's new headquarters in upstate New York. Leaving the dance, he apologized to Liz for leaving, he donned on his homemade Spider-Man suit, Peter is ambushed by Schultz only for Ned to save him. Peter takes Flash Thompson car to confronts Toomes in his lair, who attempts to persuade him to his side. When Peter refuses, Toomes destroys the building's support beams and leaves him to die. [IMG=SL4] Managing to escape by lifting the whole building on top of him, Peter intercepts Toomes onboard the now-damaged plane, steering it towards the beach near Coney Island. The two engage in a confrontation that ends with Peter saving Toomes' life and leaving him for the police. Sometime later, Peter learns that Liz is moving away with her mom, Doris Toomes (the lovely Garcelle Beauvais), to Oregon, because her dad didn't want them to be there for the trial. So classmate Michelle Jones (we will later discuss in another post)– whose nickname is "MJ" – will be replacing her as president of the decathlon team. [IMG=KBJ] Peter got a call from Happy to meet hi go to the new Avengers Facility. Tony offer him a spot on the team and a new Spider-Man Suit (Iron Spider), but declines Stark's invitation to join and wants to keep his feet on the ground and protect the little man. This inspires Stark to bring an engagement ring, that Happy was holding since 2008, to a press conference where Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow, Surprise!!!!) is present. Upon returning home, Peter discovers that Stark has returned his upgraded suit and puts it on just as May walks into his room, and WHAT THE @$#&! (I swear the best scene in the movie). [IMG=OLY] In a mid-credits scene, an incarcerated Gargan approaches Toomes at the Raft and explains that several criminals are banding together to exact vengeance against Spider-Man (I hope this means in the next movie we are going to see the Sinister Six). In a post-credits scene, Captain America takes part in a public service announcement centering on the importance of patience (Hint, hint, he is reminding the fans to wait for our next adventure with Spider-Man, and telling SONY, wtf took you so long to get on board to bring back a favorite Webcrawler home to the MCU). [IMG=O8G] Whoa there are no words I can use to describe this movie except it is FREAKING SPECTACULAR, AMAZING, AND SENSATIONAL!!! Was it too much? I guess not because this has become one of top 5 favorite MCU film. Jon Watts did an amazing job of bringing out a side of Spider-Man and his villains that we have never seen on film before. I can see he have been watching and studying some of John Hughes movies to bring a vibe that this is more than a superhero film but this a film for teenagers (yes this is for fans, but you know what I mean). To me I feel like being a teenager is so much easy as an adult, but when you are a teenager you are going through hell and I mean puberty, and for Peter it is more than that he is trying to balance of being a nephew, a student, a friend, and Spider-Man. He wants to be part of something that is bigger than him and he wants to prove to Tony Stark that he is made for this. [IMG=4DT] Tom Holland was brilliant as Peter Parker and Spider-Man, he was perfectly cast as the Webcrawler and he understood that as a teenager trying to get through life while trying to save some he knew he was more than just a kid with spider powers, he was a kid that felt like with power he had he have to be responsible by using it for the greater good. And he had great comedic timing, we finally got a chance to watch Spider-Man talk a whole lot of @$!# to the bad guys while he is beating them. The best scene he had was when the building was on top of him and at first he was scared. For the first time we had a Spider-Man that was a teen that was scared and needed help and his performance was perfect. And plus Peter character was a bit naive. Think about you have a kid who thought Tony didn't think he was important until they had that conversation on the ship. But overall I believe he is better than Tobey McGuire and Andrew Garfield, and I hope Sony doesn't @$!# up the opportunity they have with this character. [IMG=9K3] I was happy that they brought Robert Downey Jr along to reprise his role as Tony Stark / Iron Man to not only bring Spider-Man to Captain America Civil War, but to mentor him as a superhero to be better than him and all the Avengers that come before him. And I didn't think Jon Favreau wasn't going to do much but just be there, he had a role in being both Peter's mentor and babysitter to check in on him while he is patrolling. [IMG=4HT] Let's talk about Michael Muthaf@$!#/g Keaton, man it is great to see him in a comic book film again and he played a great villain in this story. I can't say he was villain in the story because he wasn't trying to dominate the world or destroy it like Loki, Ultron, or Thanos. He was trying to help his family live a better life and help his men get money. And I feel him when the little man is working hard but the government comes in and kick them out to save money. And he didn't snitch on Peter's secret identity, I guess he felt like he owes him one when he saved him from exploding or he is saving it to get back at him for ruining his life. [IMG=UY7] I must talk about the rest of the cast, Jacob Batalon was spot on as Ned. Usually the best friend would be Harry Osborn, but I'm glad they changed this up to make the cast diverse. Ned was great as Peter's friend and a comic relief. In a way I related to Ned more because he believe in his best friend and wants him to be the best superhero in New York. Laura Harrier as Liz Allan Toomes was great as a love interest, she wasn't better than Gwen Stacy or Mary Jane Watson but in this universe this a great step to explore more character's in the Spider-Man and Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now let's talk about Zendaya character Michelle Jones. For months I have thought she was going to play Mary Jane Watson, and I was wrong but sort of right. In the end when she announced her friends call her MJ it was a nod to the character from the comics. Zendaya was playing a character that had small kine but great comedic timing. She reminds me of a girl I knew in high school who like to be an outsider, but she was cute and smart, but if you talk bad stuff about her she will get you back. But the Homecoming Dance scene when Peter see all his friends she raised the middle finger and me and girlfriend bust out laughing. Now I know everyone had a problem with this character so let me break it down why they got him right for this movie. Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson, I wasn't interested in this character that much but everyone was mad because the movie didn't cast him right or some was being racist, but here is my reason why ly I think he fit well in the movie. Even though this isn't the typical white teenage boy who is a total jock and pick on Peter, he wouldn't fit the movie or the school. Let's think about if the character from the comics attended Midtown School for Science, I think all the nerds would pick on him because he is kind of a dumb jock. So when they cast Revolori I guess they wanted him to be a rich, snarky, smart ass brat that you couldn’t stand because he wants the attention and wants to be known. [IMG=7AN] Donald Glover, even though he had a small role, it was very important. In the interrogation scene he said he didn't want any weapon to get in the streets or near his “nephew”. It is official that Miles Morales is in the MCU, but the question is how are they going to introduce us to him in the next movie? [IMG=RJY] Marisa Tomei, what can I say, wow, and heeeeeeyyyyyyyy Aunt May. For her to struggle to keep a household in order, taking care of Peter, and everyone hitting on her, you would think she had it made, not really. She was worried a lot about Peter, and didn't want anything to happen to him like Uncle Ben (even though they don't mention him that much in the film). But the end of the movie, when she finds out about Peter's secret identity, that was priceless and I can't wait to get the blue ray to watch that scene over and over again. The big question is will she allow Peter to stay as Spider-Man? [IMG=O5P] Now they were kind of minor villains but I must discuss because they will probably play an important role in the next movie and that is Herman Schultz/ Shocker, played by Bokeem Woodbine, Michael Chernus, who plays Phineas Mason / Tinkerer, and Michael Mando appears as Mac Gargan/ Scorpion. These three had minor roles but they had a purpose in the film. And I think for the next Spider-Man film we will see Spider-Man go against them as they form The Sinister Six which would be stoked. [IMG=QHO] Now I am glad for the performance of the diverse cast they have to reflect today's audience. The members of Parker's high school include: Kenneth Choi, who previously played Jim Morita in the MCU Captain America First Avenger, plays Principal Morita, Parker's high school principal and a descendant of Jim (which was a great nod to the film). Hannibal Buress plays Coach Wilson, the school's gym teacher, which he had the best line ever. Martin Starr, who previously had a non-speaking role in The Incredible Hulk, appears as Mr. Harrington, a teacher who is also the academic decathlon coach (they really want Spider-Man to be connected to the MCU). Now the the rest of the cast that played Parker's classmates include: Isabella Amara as Sally; Jorge Lendeborg Jr. as Jason Ionello; J. J. Totah as Seymour; Abraham Attah as Abraham; Tiffany Espensen as Cindy; Angourie Rice as Betty Brant; Michael Barbieri as Charles; and Ethan Dizon as Tiny. Now they were great because even though their roles were small they had great chemistry with Peter and with each other.
