I may be writing Pokémon AU crackfic that somehow ended up juniors POV, even though it’s supposed to be about xiyao.

concept: the juniors all have Eevees, but they are as different as dog breeds could be.

Wen Yuan has an Eevee named Radish, possibly a gift from his not-uncle WWX (who thinks Eevees are foxes, obvs). She is well behaved and quite strong. Very elegant despite the cutesy name (the name is due to the fact that her fur sticks up on her little head like a radish leaf)! He hasn’t decided what to evolve her into and he is not worried about it. He is the most accomplished gym battler of the trio.

Jin Ling has an Eevee named Fairy (of course); she has perfect EVs because she was gifted by his uncle JGY when he was President of the Pokémon League. Fairy is spoiled, but also extremely loyal and cuddly. She refuses to go inside her Pokeball most of the time. Jin Ling is being pressured to evolve her into a Jolteon (because most Jins have Pikachus and other electric types, etc.) but he is insistent that she will evolve with friendship when it is time.

Lan Jingyi’s Eevee is a lazy boy named Chicken, but please don’t make fun of him - Jingyi named him when he was five and his dad’s Sylveon had just had puppies (yes, eggs, but whatever). He cried so much when they tried to give the puppies away that he had been allowed to keep Chicken, even if it was way too early for him to become a Pokémon trainer. As a result, Chicken is pretty badly trained. A great pet, though. Since they both grew up on a mountain, Chicken is very good in the cold and Jingyi is considering whether to buy him a water stone or trek to the Ice Rock to evolve it for his next birthday.

Something I will never personally forgive the English ffxiv translation for is yeah sort of Haurchefant being more overtly flirty and even a little perverted- but it's also his last words to WOL bc in Japanese it's smth like "Heroes cannot be sad, but you have such a beautiful smile. Try not to forget mine" and like that carried over to the other versions like French and German but English changed to the admittedly iconic "A smile better suits a hero" but idk I think the original translation just felt a lot more personal.

Oh, also, allegedly Haurchefant and Aymeric's friendship was a lot more apparent in Japanese dub which is smth that makes sense bc Edmont just randomly saying Aymeric is like another son to him kinda feels shitty without the context of their frienship. But if you say that Haurche and Aymeric are good friends, then it's like "You were someone important to my son so I welcome you" and idk I just feel like it would have slapped a little harder
