AU where Loki doesn’t interfere with Thor’s banishment at all and it takes Thor years to prove himself worthy and when he returns to Asgard everything is just. The same. Nothing seems to have changed at all and everyone greets him like his absence was a minor obstacle that didn’t fundamentally change Thor and the worst part is Loki stepped down from the place as regent without any delay and Thor can’t help but feel there’s something underlaying the way his brother looks at him now and won’t let him touch him and Thor doesn’t know what he could have missed because he doesn’t think he would have found anything wrong with the things around him and how everyone behaves if he hadn’t spent time on Earth reflecting.
#the warriors 4 not being interested in anything Thor ‘learnt’ at all#and making it clear that Thor was punished unfairly and the AllFather’s decision had been harsh#Loki saying he’s happy for Thor and Thor sees the way the smiles are forced and he sees the way Loki avoids any touch#Thor hating the way Frigga talks about Loki’s short regency and Thor’s absence like it wasn’t two whole decades or something#like she’s so grateful to have her other son back without ever addressing why he was gone#Thor just. growing during his time on earth and being much more aware of the behaviour around him#he learns to be critical and assess why people around him may act a certain way#once he realises that it’s possible for him or anyone else to be fallible and make mistakes it’s over for Asgard for him I think#Thor returns and Loki gives him the throne and everyone expects him to obviously have the throne#and Odin is sleeping and Thor isn’t comfortable with the way everyone accepts him as king regent after the banishment#Loki who either never lashed out against Jotunheim or did and it was brushed away and no one thinks about it as anything#but Loki is still deeply affected and acts the way he always would have but Thor can feel it’s not the same#he knows something is wrong and Loki won’t say anything about it and Thor doesn’t know how to bring it up#Thor sees Loki metaphorically receding into the shadows to become a nonpresence so loud Thor hears it even after returning from decades away#Thor goes to Earth and gets his priorities in order gets a new worldview learns not to take what he has for granted#and finds out he actually despised Asgard#he’s been back a week and he can’t stand it

Chapter 5: Farewell to Our Old Life
It was kind of strange how little there was to organize for us regarding our move.  There was packing, but we couldn’t exactly hire a moving truck so it needed to fit in bags that we could carry or it had to stay behind.  That was difficult.  We had had a long time to collect a lot of things we considered precious to us.  The glass artwork that Thor and I had inadvertently made on our honeymoon was the thing I wished we could bring the most.  It would stay in the fountain in the entry and hopefully, we’d come back sometimes and see it.
Thankfully, most of our things were fairly portable.  We also wouldn’t need a lot of clothes because Asgard would provide things more fitting for the palace, and it’s not like we would need any furniture.  Mostly it was just personal effects and tech that Tony wanted to use there.
Other than that it was just letting the doctors know I was leaving, pulling Marya out of school, and organizing the party.
It was still leaning on the stressful side though - especially considering we were still waiting to hear what the rest of the kids were going to do.
Even though Rose and Paul had appeared closest to deciding to come, it was Billy and Teddy who came back to us first with a yes.  They had also said they wanted to do a bonding ceremony when we were there, which added another level of excitement and another level of stress.
Rose and Paul came next.  They said that they would try it out and see.  The concern about their children’s lifespan was a big issue for them, but Paul also said he’d be crazy to give up at least trying to live on Asgard as actual royalty.
As expected it was Eddie who took the longest to decide.  He really did love his job, and I think even with his talk about having children, he, Lyra, and Rory were still right into the rich, young party lifestyle.  He was worried about what they’d lose going to Asgard, rather than focusing on the things he might gain.
No one pressured him though.  Any questions the three had were answered as honestly as we could and if we didn’t know we’d send word back to Asgard and Loki would come and give the answers they were looking for if at all possible.  Eventually, he decided that he’d give it six months for us to settle and make sure things with Stark Industries and the Avengers was transitioning smoothly given our sudden departure, and then he and his family would join us there to try it out.  He mentioned maybe doing six months on each planet or returning to Earth for a month or two every year, but we were all just glad he was willing to try it out, and his delayed departure from Earth was a good idea.  He even promised to come and visit when his new siblings were born.
When our goodbye party began, the whole family was excited for this new chapter in our lives and sad to say goodbye to the last.
Many of our friends were elderly or had passed on, so the party was going to be a mixture of different people.  Clarke was still around, though Jax had passed a few years ago.  We’d lost Rhodey and Fury, though Hill was still running the day-to-day operations of the Avengers, even in her old age, and Coulson had retired after years as successfully being director of SHIELD.  Vision was the same as ever, and people often came to him for direction when it came to the Avengers.  Carol also hadn’t changed though she still spent more time in space than on Earth.  A lot of the people we had met that had seemed so young when we met them, were all not officially middle-aged.  Even Peter Parker who was only fifteen when I met him was now pushing fifty and had a wife and daughter of his own.
They would all be at the party, including a lot of the new Avengers lineup.  Most of whom were much heavier hitters than any of us, even when we were wielding Mjolnir.  It was definitely going to be sad to say goodbye.
“It’s going to be okay, you know?”  Wanda said, snapping me out of my mini-trance as she ran a brush methodically through my hair.
“No, I know,” I said, tilting my head back.
“Then tell your brain that,” she teased.
I giggled and leaned up and pecked her lips.  “I’m sorry.  I would if I could.  Just hormones I guess.  Feeling stressed.”
“Well, stop it,” she scolded playfully.  “It’s bad for the babies.”
She began to braid my hair and I hummed as her fingertips grazed over my scalp.  “Imagine it though, Elly,” Wanda said.  “All the kids nearby - the new babies.”
“You’re a baby-oholic,” I said, laughing softly.
“It’s true,” she says.  “I am.”
She ran a hand around my side and pressed it on my stomach.  “I can’t wait to meet them,” she said.  “They already have such busy thoughts.”
I looked up at her and I’m not sure whether it was the look of pure and complete love in her eyes or the way the light caught in her hair, but I was struck by how beautiful she was and how much I loved her.  She smiled and pressed a kiss to my forehead.  “I love you too,” she said and picked up a strand of silver wire with black opal and threaded it into my hair.  “All done.”
I stood carefully and straightened out the skirts on my blue lace cocktail dress.  “How do I look?” I asked.
“Perfect as always,” she said.  “Let's go say goodbye to our friends.”
We made our way down to the party deck where the party was only just starting up.  Bruce, Steve, and Clint were all already there, but there was no sign of Tony, Natasha, Clint, Sam, Thor, or Bucky.
Some of our kids were there and their kids all played out in the garden atrium that was built on the protruding wing of the tower and the party deck opened out into.  I greeted everyone and as I made my way around the room more people arrived.
Clarke came over and tapped me on the shoulder.  I turned and smiled, hugging her tightly.  She had aged well, not as well as I had obviously, but while her face was lined and she was a little frailer looking, she had kept in good shape and she continued to color her hair.  It would be easy to think she was in her early fifties rather than her mid-seventies.  Her eyes were what gave it away.  What had once been vivid violet had faded to pale lavender and were slightly cloudy.  They were heavily lined at the corners, the years having carved deep crevices to mark each time she was happy or sad or angry or worried.  It was still my Clarke though and I was going to miss her.
“I can’t believe you’re not going to be here when these two are born,” she said, indicating to my stomach as we pulled apart.  She was one of the select group of people I would be totally fine with touching my stomach unasked - but she never assumed.  “Where am I going to get my baby kisses from?”
I laughed and shook my head.  “I guess you’ll have to visit me on Asgard.”
“You can do that?”  She asked.
“I mean… I’m the Queen.  I think I can pull some strings,” I teased.
She laughed.  “God, thinking of you as a Queen is such a trip.”
“Hey Auntie Clarke,” Billy said, appearing behind us.  “I haven’t seen you for a while.”
Clarke hugged him and looked around.  “It’s been too long.  Where are those kids of yours.”
“Come on, I’ll take you to them,” he looked over at me and narrowed his eyes.  “You go sit down, mom.  You know you’re supposed to be taking it easy.”
“I am taking it easy,” I argued, holding up my hands.  “I’m just standing here.”
“Go on,” he said.  “Don’t make me page Dad Tony.”
“Heaven forbid,” I laughed and he wrinkled his nose at me and led Clarke out to the atrium.  I got myself a little plate of appetizers and a glass of punch and went and took a seat.
It wasn’t long until the whole room was teeming with people.  The Avengers had gotten to be a rather large collection of people since the original six had been reluctantly dragged together all those years ago.  Having so many of the people who meant so much to all of us here at the same time couldn’t help but make me think about how I’d first joined this group that would one day be my family.
All those years ago I had been a traumatized woman in her mid-twenties, just trying to get by.  I didn’t have many good friends, because it took a lot for me to trust people.  It took a superhero to get through and with her, so many other people flooded in after.  I was so grateful to them, and so in love with each of them to this day.  It would be hard letting this life of ours go, but it was inevitable.  I still had my 9 chosen people though, and I always would.  I was glad to be taking this next step with them at my side.

Odin’s Ward ~ Chapter 11
Link to previous part: https://bonjour-rainycity.tumblr.com/post/637989270079078400/odins-ward-chapter-10
Pairing: Loki x female reader

Loki’s POV
I had known it was coming. I shouldn’t have been surprised.
Still, it came as quite an unwelcome shock.
Well, maybe less of a shock and more of a crippling punch to the gut.
Yes, that describes it better.
Mother had smiled brightly, fanning herself with the elegantly decorated invitation. Thor and Father indulged her with smiles and questions about what she would wear, giving their regrets for not being able to attend. Noticing I’d fallen silent, Mother had turned to me, asking if I would escort her to the wedding.
I’d frozen, not wanting to disappoint my mother but also being sure that I would not survive attending Y/n’s wedding to another man.
Uncharacteristically and much to my chagrin, my brother came to my rescue, quickly fabricating a reason why I could not attend and offering to rearrange his schedule to escort our mother instead.
So now I wander the castle library, trying not to pace, and annoyingly indebted to my brother.
I wonder if she’s walked down the aisle yet, or said her vows. Is it binding? Is there still time to—
Stop.
I grit my teeth against the wave of grief that threatens to overtake me. You must let her go.
I want to kick myself.
We had all those years to be together, and I fought it. And for what, her reputation? Mine? Maybe if we had gone public and our parents had seen how happy we made each other, they might have let us wed. Marrying into the Royal Family would surely be more appealing to her father than some random man from Alfheim. Of course, he wouldn’t be willing to relinquish his only heir…but we could have gotten around that. Surely I could have sent a regent to Alfheim until one of our sons was old enough to take over. And I am expected to marry an Asgardian noblewoman anyway, and Y/n is of Asgardian noble blood. It wouldn’t be too hard to persuade people to overlook the fact that she is technically of Alfheimish citizenship—she’s spent most of her life here!
And once again, my heart sinks, thinking of her all alone in a foreign realm. Yes, she has her fiancé—I grimace—and her father, but everyone she truly knows is here.
I am here.
Perhaps I should have gone to the wedding, if only to have a proper goodbye.
With shame, I reflect on our last interaction. I had the opportunity to look her in the eyes and sincerely wish her the best. Or actually say the word ‘goodbye’. Or tell her one last time that I love her. Or anything other than what I did! I should have been brave enough to swallow my despair and give her the seeing-off she deserved.
But instead I probably made her think that I don’t care. I probably made her feel even more isolated.
I hear a group of women coming my way and grab a book at random to hide my clenched fists.
“Hello, Your Highness.” Lady Naerys, one of Y/n’s least favorite ladies of court, leads the four women with her in a deep curtsey, staring at me suggestively.
A memory of an unpleasant conversation between Y/n and Lady Naerys jumps to the forefront of my mind and, fueled by the anger I feel towards myself, I am not quick enough to hold my tongue.“Thor’s spurned you, hasn’t he? Unfortunately for you, Lady Naerys, the ‘lesser of the two princes’ does not find you appealing. Better scurry off.”
She straightens, going red in the face. With a strangled huff, she storms back in the direction she came, the ladies hastening to curtsey to me again before following on her heels.
My satisfied smirk does not last long. Lady Naerys may be two-faced and rude, but she did not deserve to bear the brunt of my anger. With a sigh, I replace the book on its shelf and exit the library, following the swishing sounds of five long dresses.
I’m halfway down the hallway when I hear it: the trumpets announcing Mother and Thor’s return to the palace.
Without consciously deciding to, I’m running in the direction of the throne room. I beat Father, taking my place at the end of the receiving line near the throne. I wring my hands, unsure of what to expect. Part of me foolishly thinks Y/n will return with my family, ready to live here permanently. Father joins me just in time for the golden doors to open and Mother and Thor to walk through, both much too smiley for my liking.
The fragile hope I held sinks to my feet when Y/n is not with them.
I clench my hands behind my back tightly, wanting to flee from the room and protect myself from hearing about Y/n’s wedding while also desperate to know every detail. Protocol decides for me, and I wait for Mother and Thor to join Father and I by the throne.
The greetings seem to last an eternity. Finally, Father suggests the four of us retire to his chambers for a private dinner. Once we are all settled, Mother begins to recount the wedding. I hear endless details of flower arrangements, attire, notable guests, musical compositions, and catering, before she finally gets to the name I’ve been so desperate and terrified to hear.
“Oh, I wish you could have seen Y/n. She looked absolutely stunning, just ethereal! And her husband is quite the looker too, if not a bit older. The ceremony—”
One part of her sentence bothers me enough to dull the pain of hearing the word ‘husband’ for the first time. “How much older?”
Mother raises an eyebrow at my interruption. I’m quick to apologize, then repeat my question. Thor shoots me a warning look.
Mother makes a slight face before schooling her expression. Warning bells go off in my mind. Surely they wouldn’t force Y/n to marry an old man, right? “Easily 1500 years between them, maybe a few more.” Whatever my expression is doing causes her to smile soothingly. “Do not be alarmed, son. She and I got along fine, and I am over 2,000 years older than her.”
Fury burns through my stomach. “Yes, but you’re not meant to marry her. You were a parental figure to her, this is someone she’s meant to—”
The ability to put together words leaves me.
It’s their wedding night.
She’s probably having to sleep with him right now.
Bile rises in my throat.
Thor once again comes to my aid. “Father, Mother, if you’ll excuse us, I have much to tell Loki about Alfheim’s local talent.” He wiggles his eyebrows, earning indulging laughs from our parents. Crossing to my side of the table, Thor hoists me up by the elbow and drags me from the room.
Once we are safely out of earshot from others, he shoves me into one of the stone walls. “You have to get a grip of yourself.”
“Spare me,” I spit, anger rising to the surface once again. “You don’t know what it’s like!”
“Because I am not stupid enough to get involved with a woman I know I can’t have!”
I laugh without humor. “You are woefully daft in many other areas, fear not, brother.”
Thor growls, stepping towards me with a hand raised in warning. “Take care, brother. I am being lenient with you because I know you think your heart is broken, but I will not tolerate much more slander. You are angry with yourself, and no one else. Do not think you can take it out on me.”
I clench my fists, pushing away from the wall. Thor eyes me warily, unsure of my motivation for moving. I roll my eyes. How little he trusts me.
“Oh, do calm down, brother, I am not planning on hitting you.” I groan, anger giving way to exhaustion. I’ve never felt so helpless in all my life. “Perhaps you’re right,” I mumble. Thor gives me a look of surprise. “Perhaps I was wrong to become involved with Y/n. There’s no way it would have ended in any other way than our separation.”
Thor exhales, coming to place a heavy hand on my shoulder. “Do not be so hard on yourself. We all make mistakes, especially when beautiful women are involved.” He elbows me, obviously trying to be funny, but I have no room in me for humor. With a sigh, Thor grips my shoulder again, this time turning me in the direction of the garden, where a lone woman sits on a bench, reading a novel. “Loki, take the advice of your older brother. You have suffered a romantic heartbreak. The only way to bounce back is to enjoy a romantic conquest.” When I don’t move, he gives me a shove. “Go on. It’ll get your mind off Y/n.”
He has no idea how impossible that is.
But he refuses to leave so, mentally swearing to only speak with the girl, I make my way towards the garden.
A/n I haven’t written from Loki’s POV in a while, so this was really fun! Please let me know what you thought and if you would like to be added to the tag list :)

Predator to Prey, Chapter 20
Akelia struggled even more to adjust living on Asgard in her human form. She hated being around people so much, it was too much of an overload for her.
She really REALLY missed living in the quiet cottage of the forest with Loki, on their own.
Loki found her often wanting to change into her wolf form when they were in his chambers, just so she could feel being her again as much as possible. Since Odin had forbidden her to be a wolf in public.
So Akelia was ecstatic when Loki took her out one day, high into the mountains amongst all the trees, she ran and ran as her wolf for so long. And she enjoyed hunting alongside him, just like they used to when on Midgard.
After the sun had set, they decided to star watch for a while before returning to the palace. Loki turned Akelia back into her human form and they cuddled together under the bright stars while lying on the soft grass atop a hill. Loki pointed out many of the stars, explaining what they were and the constellations too.
‘It is such a beautiful realm.’ Akelia said softly, snuggling in closer to Loki.
He smiled and pressed a kiss to her head. ‘It certainly is. But it’s much better now, because you are here with me.’
She looked at him and giggled. ‘So cheesy!’
Loki chuckled and smoothed her hair back from her face. ‘I love some cheese.’ He grinned.
Akelia giggled again and leaned up more, she traced her fingers over his face. In awe at his beautiful features, even more prominent in the starlight.
‘What are you thinking, darling?’ Loki asked, picking up her hand and kissing each knuckle, making her blush.
‘Just how lucky I am that you’re mine.’ She grinned and rested her chin on his chest, looking at him lovingly.
Loki chuckled and brushed her cheek with the back of his hand.
‘I think it’s me that’s the lucky one.’ He smiled fondly at her.
-
Over the following month, Loki noticed that Akelia still didn’t seem to settle very well unless they were in his chambers or out in the mountains alone.
She became very tense and agitated when there were others around them, especially women. And especially if they got too close to Loki. Often her hands would ball up into fists and she would cling to Loki tightly, not letting him go until the threat was gone.
It didn’t go unnoticed that Loki was never able to be alone without Akelia. Odin and Frigga were concerned, even Thor noticed the strange behaviour.
But it got worse one afternoon, Loki and Akelia were down by the training grounds. Loki had just been practising some fighting with Volstagg, while Akelia watched from the side-lines. Twitching every time Volstagg went in for an attack.
She was gripping the bench so hard her knuckles were white. She had been so focused on Loki, that she never noticed, or heard, Frigga approaching until she sat down a few feet along from her on the bench.
Akelia jumped slightly when she noticed Frigga next to her.
‘Sorry to startle you.’ Frigga said softly. ‘Loki is a good warrior, isn’t he?’
Akelia wanted to watch Loki, but at the same time she was wary of Frigga. Especially with her being so close. And she didn’t really want to take her eyes off her.
‘He is.’ She said quietly. Her eyes darting back and fore between Frigga and Loki.
‘I thought perhaps that you could join myself and Sif later, it would be nice to get to know you a bit better.’ Frigga suggested kindly.
But the kind suggestion to Akelia was more like she had just said she was going to murder her instead. Her eyes widened as she looked at the Queen.
‘No… Thanks.’
Frigga’s face dropped. She just wanted her to relax more on Asgard and for her to get to know Loki’s family. It was sad to see her so fearful and untrusting.
Just as Frigga was about to say something else, there was a groan that came from Loki on the field.
Akelia’s head shot round and her heart almost stopped. Volstagg had Loki pinned to the ground.
And Akelia panicked, seeing red.
As quick as lightning, she ran over towards them, turning into her wolf on the way. While her adrenaline was running high, she pounced on Volstagg and knocked him flying off Loki. She snarled and then pounced again, tearing into Volstagg’s arm, making him cry out in pain.
‘AKELIA! Akelia! Stop!’ Loki rushed over to her from the side and she let go when he reached her, confused at seeing two Loki’s.
Loki could see she was weak. If she hadn’t been, she would’ve likely ripped his arm off. So it was a blessing, really, that her adrenaline rush when she first changed was short lived.
The Loki that had been pinned down by Volstagg disappeared, having been a duplicate.
‘I’m alright. He didn’t hurt me.’ Loki said softly as he crouched down by Akelia and stroked her neck. ‘I need to turn you back so I can get you inside.’
Akelia was wobbly on her legs and didn’t attempt to dispute Loki’s request. He turned her into her human form and scooped her up in his arms, she leaned into his chest straight away.
Volstagg sat up as a few soldiers rushed to his aid. They helped him to stand.
‘This isn’t good, Loki.’ Frigga said on her way past, to check on Volstagg.
Loki felt a shooting pang in his stomach. He knew it wasn’t. But he wasn’t going to give in so easily, he was not about to let Odin, or Frigga for that matter, banish his girl.
‘Get him to the healers.’ Loki heard Frigga telling the soldiers.
Loki decided not to hang around any longer. He carried Akelia back to his chambers, locking the door properly with his Seidr when they got there.
‘I’m sorry.’ Akelia whispered when Loki lay her down on the bed.
‘Shhh. We will discuss it later. You need to rest.’ He trailed his fingers along her forehead and leaned down to kiss her cheek. ‘Get some sleep.’
Akelia nodded and snuggled into bed, falling asleep pretty quickly.
Loki watched her sleep for a while. His heart melted at how adorable she was, so carefree while she slept and peaceful. He sighed and decided he better go face the music, before she wakes up later.
He teleported to the throne room, knowing Odin and Frigga would be there. No doubt expecting him or sending soldiers along soon.
And he was right. As always.
Odin was just getting a soldier to go fetch him when he arrived.
‘No need for me to ask if you know why I want to speak with you.’ Odin said firmly.
‘Obviously.’ Loki stated, standing straight and hands behind his back. Looking a little cocky as he awaited the expected shouting at.
Odin narrowed his eye at him. ‘This is not on, Loki. We accepted her here, into our home. And she is attacking everyone.’
‘I know.’ Loki said quickly. ‘That’s why I was thinking, we should move to the cabin in the mountains. The one you used to take us to as kids. It would be safer there, for everyone. She doesn’t like being around people, I told you at the start she doesn’t like or trust anyone. At all. It’s too much of an overload for her here. Constantly surrounded by someone or another.’
Odin shook his head. ‘I don’t think so. You will simply run off, and I am not giving up my cabin.’
Loki’s jaw clenched. But he tried to keep calm.
‘I’ll make our own home, then.’ He suggested.
‘No.’
Loki was really struggling not to flip now.
‘Well what the hel do you suggest then? Oh so great Allfather.’ Loki mocked, throwing in a bow too for good measure.
‘Loki.’ Frigga warned.
‘One last chance, Loki. She has one last chance and then that’s it. She is banished from Asgard and you will be thrown into the dungeon.’ Odin snarled.
Loki’s face turned serious, his nostrils flared.
‘I mean it, Loki. You need to keep her under control. Properly.’

Predator to Prey, Chapter 20
TITLE: Predator to Prey CHAPTER NO./ONE SHOT: Chapter 20 AUTHOR: fanficshiddles ORIGINAL IMAGINE: Imagine Loki lives in exile on Midgard in a forest, he can’t leave the boundary. But every night when the sun goes down he turns into his Jotun form until the sun rises again. He meets a wolf one day and befriends her, gains her trust. But the wolf is no ordinary wolf… RATING: M

Properly.’

But he is the God of Mischief, and when the lady in question proves to be smart, caring, and lovely he can’t resist trying to slowly turn her affection away from the prince she is promised to marry and claim her for himself. My first ever (and still personal favorite I’ve written) fic!!
Loki and Kela’s Adventures on Midgard: Rated E, Smut, Fluff 8 chapters (complete)
A sequel to Exile’s Return, but not really necessary to read that first. Loki brings his love Kela to Midgard despite being wanted for war crimes by The Avengers. In Exchange for Submission: Rated E, Smut, Fluff, Romance, Angst, 77 Chapters (completed)

During his campaign he acquired a group of hostages from resistance pockets and is keeping them captive in Stark Tower. Now, with things settling down a bit, he needs to decide what to do with them. Two of them, from a prominent family, are set to be released. One of these, a feisty, irritating, impossible woman, desperately offers to ransom the rest of the prisoners, including her best friend. Loki has no need of Midgardian coin, but the woman, who has been a thorn in his side for weeks, has something else that he desires - her submission. He offers her a bargain - every day he will require a new willing act of submission from her, and in exchange, he will release one prisoner. How long can she keep up the deal? And how much of herself will he demand she surrender?
Trigger Warnings: Dark elements, Dark!Thor, attempted rape (not by Loki), angst, tons of kink and smut

In the days before the events of Thor I, Loki inadvertently comes upon a female servant being “punished” by a pair of guards. Her crime? Stealing a book from the rooms she was tasked to clean. Curiosity captured, he decides to break through the shy exterior by any means necessary. A bit of softer Loki story, as he is younger and pre-Jotunn discovery. He is still Loki though, so sass and drama will not be far away!

You have been dating Loki for several months, so it is only natural that he would accompany you home for a very old fashioned family holiday, right? This could be your dream come true… or your worst nightmare.

Frostbitten: Chapter Five
Y/N L/N is a child of a Jotun and an Asgardian. She spends her life hidden in the dungeons of Asgard, with no one to talk to other than one of the princes- a man who seems completely incapable of leaving her alone and entirely unable to give up on helping her. Y/N and Loki Odinson have always been inseparable, it seems- even when there is a cell wall, or a village, or an entire kingdom between them.
Even when he disappears, even when you run away, and even when his world falls apart; you are inseparable.
Tumblr media
okay, quick note:
there have been at least 3 VASTLY DIFFERENT drafts for this chapter, where I’ve incorporated different aspects of the story in different measures. I felt this was the best way to continue the story, but a lot of the previous writings for this part still have important details may or may not answer long-standing questions. For that reason, my ask box is open! If there was anything in the previous parts that made you think weird flex but ok or but why tho or what the shit is happening, do not hesitate to ask, because it’s probably intentional. If it’s not, even better. I always need to edit :).
Also, marching season!! No sleep. Big mess. Sorry for lack of update. I promise I'm not abandoning this!

Loki curls up beside your cell, knees to his chest, back to the wall. You cannot see him from your spot on your bed, so you don't acknowledge him. You sit, flipping quietly through a book he had given you and sipping lightly at the death-soup Asgard gave you for food. And he’s there, eyes unblinking, trying to remember how to speak.
In his hands is a small dagger, dabbled with dry blood and dirt and dulled from use, and he flips it twice over, staring at the gentle curves of the blade. He has made mistakes today, and he needs to tell someone, but he can’t tell his family and he’s not ready to tell you. Pretending everything is alright on the other hand, is equally unacceptable. Loki is sick of lying. He’s sick of... well, sick of having to lie.
He presses the flat of the blade to his palm and closes his eyes, and the weapon disappears in a flash of green. You peek up from the pages and set the book on your bed, now aware of his presence.
“Are you hiding from me, now?” you jest, smiling softly and standing. “You look tired.”
Your voice draws him in from the first syllable, and he closes his eyes, leaning his head back against the wall.
Your smile fades as quickly as it came, and you heave a deep sigh. “You’re doing it again,” you comment, looking away from him. “Loki, please talk to me. I’ll listen. In case you’ve forgotten, there’s no one for me to tell your secrets to. They’re safe with me.”
He looks at you, and through his eyes you see that your words have inspired anger. He hides it well, speaking even and low. “You’re worth more to me than my secrets."
“Alright, then. Tell me why you did it. Whatever you did, or whatever you said.”
“I don’t know. That’s the worst part.”
You stay silent, awaiting an explanation. He looks toward you, clearly doing his best not to give anything away. “I have a very helpful resolve to only play practical jokes," he says, "and if they get out of hand I fix my mistakes. I didn’t do that this time, and I made things worse instead. I got angry.”
“At what?”
“No, that’s not it. I’m always angry, always plotting- it’s in my nature to be the epitome of wrongdoing. When I’m good, there’s no reputation for me to lean on like there is my brother. We demand on good versus evil for security, because gods forbid two good people have a disagreement.”
“Why do people expect you to be bad? Why not Thor?”
"Thor is the heir to the throne, so obviously he's perfect. I'm his opposite, so I'm the awful one."
You fiddle your hands together, entertwining your own fingers. "So you're angry because you have to fill this role?"
"No," he pauses, and shame crosses his face. He looks away from you, closes his eyes, and exhales, his entire body going slack against the wall. "No, that's not it. I'm angry because I'm so good at playing it. I'm uncontrollably good at playing it."
"Oh." You shift, turning your head to stare at the wall. "I can't imagine why. You're the kindest person I know."
"And how many people do you know?"
Sif, and Fandral, and Thor, and Odin, and the other guards. All of them different, all of them horrible in their own special way.
"Enough," you mutter.
Loki must read your mind, because he seems to regret his words after he hears you speak "That's fair," he murmurs, lifting a hand to push back his hair. "And I'm sorry. I shouldn't be emptying my heart out to you. You're not my therapist."
You scoff, recoiling, and cross your arms. "When I was six, a woman grabbed me by the wrist, angry with my lack of compliance in training. She had gloves on, and managed to keep me under control. I didn't want her to keep touching me, so I used my other hand to grab her wrist. When she tried to run, her arm frostbitten, I shot an icicle at her shoulder and knocked her to the ground. Then I left her there, locking her in the room and running about until eventually being captured," you say, bluntly. Loki blinks, surprised.
"I didn't know all that," he says, mildly fearful.
"I know," you reply, smiling slightly. "A secret for a secret. You dump your feelings on me, I'll return the favor. Deal?"
Loki sighs, eyes wandering for a moment while he ponders. Then his face softens, lips curving upward, and he looks back at you. He has forgotten the reason for his hesitance in speaking to you. "Are you sure you can keep up?"
"With the amount of times I've kept my thoughts from you?" You chuckle. "Absolutely."
"What do you have to keep from me?" he asks, mildly amused.
"What do you have to keep from me?"
-----
Loki did not mean to kiss you last night. No strings were meant to attach. The encounter was meant to be short, and friendly, and consisting of comforting hand touches and maybe, maybe a kiss on the cheek- something very forgettable. Instead of being casual, however, you had refrained from contact, afraid of touching him, of hurting him, and this made the confrontation more... well, more something. Loki got a little too close, a little too eager. Now he has to come to terms with the reason why he wanted so suddenly to kiss you, and why he wants to kiss you again. It's all he can think about, which is unfortunate considering the fact that he needs to figure out why he's still trapped with his brother on Jotunheim.
He grunts noisily, trying desperately to shove you into his pile of secrets, and steers his thoughts back on course to his main suspect. If he's right, the culprit is Arvid Erikson, since when everyone was through the Bifrost, Arvid was left behind in close proximity to Heimdall and the key. In those moments, he could have killed the gatekeeper and stolen the sword- the only way the Bifrost should remain closed. Arguably, the Allfather could summon dark magic to get everyone home, and regretfully, Loki has yet to figure out why that hasn't happened.
Erikson has always been strange, of course, but never showed any ill intent, so Loki is asking himself the very repetitive question: why? Why do this?
Of course, this question is relatively meaningless if he's trapped in his cell. He'll die, of starvation or dehydration or boredom or all of the above if he doesn't make his escape, which he will. If not to survive and bring the guilty to justice, he'll escape to see you. To touch your hands, or embrace you, or maybe, maybe kiss you again. On purpose and with purpose. To figure out whether you share these strange emotions, and if you do, to indulge in them.
This should be happening soon, because Loki is no longer in his cell, but right outside, brushing the dirt off his clothes. How? you might ask, and to that I offer no response. He's Loki. He's... special.
“Thor,” Loki grunts, cautiously peering around the corner and starting toward where he thinks the other cells are. “Thor, are you still in there? We’re getting out.”
Quiet, then a crack.
“Loki?” a voice calls in answer, but it’s not Thor’s. It’s Sif’s voice, high and dry and hoarse, coming from a cell just a couple feet away. Loki struts up to the bars and peers through them, using the sparse blue daylight coming in through the cell window to try and make out her shape. There is blood dried down her chin, and down her arms are purple bruises, marks of swollen blue. Also in the cell is Thor, his hair dried with sweat to the sides of his face, skin covered in dirt. “Thor, your brother is here.”
“Then let him be. We can’t leave either way,” speaks Thor, casting a glance toward Loki through the bars. “Brother, she’s wounded, I’m wounded, and they’re coming for you. The two of us can’t afford to risk another escape when there are so many of them and so few of us.”
“That sounds logical,” Loki muses, scoffing gently. “Who are you and what have you done to my brother? Get her up. This may be our last chance to get out of here, Thor.”
“Loki,” Sif says, maybe a bit too loud. She opens her mouth to speak again, but when she breathes in she is caught in a fit of violent coughs, clutching her stomach like she might throw up. When the coughing ceases, she meets his eyes. “We need to wait for the Allfather. He’ll come and get us.”
“Have you considered that maybe this wasn’t an accident?” Loki furrows his eyebrows, trying to keep his voice as quiet as possible. “I think it was Erikson. The Professor. I'm sure you can figure as to why."
"Arvid is harmless."
"Arvid is a genius, Thor. I wouldn't doubt him."
"Do you have any proof?"
"He didn't try to kill Y/N. You know how horribly he spoke of Jotuns when he taught our history- not to mention he obviously would have known if I was sneaking through the-"
“Speaking of whom,” Thor cuts in, suddenly alert. “You’ve been conspiring with a prisoner or war this entire time?”
“Y/N is not a war prisoner, and that’s beside the point. The point is that Erikson is from Vanaheim, and I believe he may have the gift of foresight. It’s quite common amongst his people.”
“So,” Sif frowns, blinking slowly, wiping her chin. “You think that Arvid has stranded us on Jotunheim for a reason? To fulfill some sort of prophecy?”
“Or to stop one,” Thor breathes, barely audible. “If we we’re stranded here, then we’re long dead, brother.”
“Says whom?”
“Says the corpses rotting in the cells beside us.” With a deep grunt, Thor rises to his feet, walking steadily up to the bars and staring toward his brother. “But I don’t believe we’re stranded. Best to wait. Odin won’t be overpowered for long. But if you do run, then run fast, and run silent.”
“Are you alright?” Loki asks, frowning. “Thor, I can turn the lot of us invisible. I can do magic.”
“We’re not going.”
“You’re being frustratingly reasonable.”
“Loki!”
“Alright, alright, I’ll leave you be. Just- the both of you had better not go soft. Then, we will die.” He steps away from the cell, turning his back, but pauses. “And is that all? Anything else you'd like to ask before I disappear?"
Thor contemplates in silence for a moment, and then says: “Do you love the Jotun?”
There is a heavy, far-too-long silence, and Loki’s faint wittiness fades. Without turning back to his brother, he mutters a suddenly harsh “What’s it to you?”
Thor leans the remainder of his weight on the door. “I saw the two of you speaking when we first arrived. You were like old friends. Speaking and smiling.”
“And what does that imply?”
“It’s unlike you to be so friendly with others. But all of your absences- times when you’d be inexplicably missing- you’d return lighter, gentler. I want to know what makes a monster in a cell so appealing, so softening to you.”
He spins slowly around, striding quickly back up to the door. “This monster, Thor, is the only thing currently leaving your body attached to your head. I’d choose your words more wisely.”
“Fine, then. Why is Y/N so much more interesting than any regular Asgardian?”
He stares- a stare that is less a look than a threat, and then says. “Y/N is different because in all my time on Asgard, as a prince, as a son, or as an ally, no one else has paid me more mind than you. Y/N values the pages over the cover- the mind over the body. Do you understand that?”
“But the prisoners have seen so few people that they’re probably desperate, don't you think?” Thor stares pitifully at Loki, breathing deep. “I don’t want you to end up in love with someone who has had no choice but to love you back.”
“How naive can you be, Thor?!” He’s suddenly loud, and Loki takes a moment to gather himself before speaking again, fists clenching. “I was just as alone as Y/N was. The only ones other than our mother willing to speak to me would speak in brute, snobbish comments, and nothing more. If anything, I came to Y/N out of desperation. You were all so enthralled with your own lives that you hardly noticed me leave.”
Thor shakes his head, dismissing the very idea. “We would have let you- you isolated yourself, brother. Separated yourself from the rest.”
“Is that what you've been telling yourself?” Loki spits back. “I clung to you like a shadow, Thor. It was the only way you’d let me, and with Y/N I finally have someone to cling back. We both have wills. We both make choices. If you’d like to speak about forced love, take a look at the throne. Look beyond your own glory, just for a moment.”
“Loki, I-”
In a shimmer of green magic, Loki disappears from sight, his footsteps light thumps across the soft, dirt dungeon floor. He walks past the guards, flinging open doors in his wake as he storms out of the crumbling palace. He steps over glass and ice and stone, walking as far and as fast away as possible. When he stops, he pulls himself behind a rather large stone, slumping and leaning his back on the solid surface. His blood is still humming with anger, and with it he calls to the sky.
“Heimdall,” he groans, looking hopefully upward. “I know you can see me. I know you’re not one to stay dead, and I seek your guidance, seer. If you cannot bring us back, let me see.”
Silence. Loki sighs, then throws his elbow back into the rock, splitting it where he hit. “Heimdall! Bring us back!”
Then, the youngest prince is hit by yellow. He stumbles back, caught in the sudden sensation, vision blurred. When his sight clears, he’s no longer on Jotunheim, but in the darkening, deep woods of Asgard. Heimdall is leaned against a tree, looking extraordinarily annoyed. “Hello, Loki,” he grunts, unamused. “You are aware that you’re supposed to open your mind when calling, right? I had to fight my way into your head. I do not wish to repeat that experience.”
“Where are you?” Loki asks, ignoring the comments. “Why are you in the woods?”
“I’m dead,” he answers simply. “Can’t you tell?” Heimdall signals to the red blotches on his chest, the bandages around his upper half. “What better place to dispose of a corpse?”
“This is no joke, seer! My brother, Sif, and I have been trapped on Jotunheim, and if the Bifrost is not reopened..." Loki steps toward him, misplaced confidence in his swagger. “You’ve no time to be dead.”
“You’ve no time to be empathetic. Be logical. Put your emotions behind you, as you seem to be so gifted at doing, and find things you will need to survive. I will try to retrieve the Bifrost Sword. I know where it is, but I need time to heal.”
“Did Arvid Erikson do this to you?”
“That he did. He’s a very dramatic fighter, in case you were wondering. He talks a lot.”
“What did he say?”
Heimdall pauses, looking over the prince, and then sighs, turning his back and beginning to walk through the undergrowth. “I'd expect you'd know by now."
"Prophecy? Foretold evils?"
"That's the one."
Loki rolls his eyes. “And that’s all?”
“Well, of course not. He’s also trying to kill you.” He stops at a smaller, shorter tree and kicks it square in the base, effectively knocking it over. Small, round fruits topple from its branches, rolling across the ground. Heimdall kneels, gathering several of these fruits into his arms. “If I recall correctly, you’re to attempt to overthrow the throne. Mind enlightening me as to why?”
The prince hesitates. “Overthrow the throne? That’s, I’d not want that. I’d make a much better king than my brother, but I wouldn’t...” he trails off. Heimdall looks up from the fruits, raising his eyebrows, and Loki turns his gaze to his palms, scratched and bare. He takes a deep breath, gritting his teeth. “And this is to bring about some horrible fate?”
“Why?” he asks, ignoring Loki’s question. “You answer my question, and I’ll answer yours.”
Loki glares slightly, rubbing his palms together. “Thor doesn’t deserve the throne in his state. He’s reckless, and arrogant, and dangerous.”
“That’s not all you have to say.”
“That’s all I care to say.”
“Does what you don’t care to say have anything to do with your parentage?”
Loki shrugs and doesn’t let on that he’s at all confused. “Doesn’t everything?”
Heimdall stares, holding his gaze. Then he looks away, satisfied. “Not in the way you think. Survive, Loki. I’ll come and get the four of you-”
“Four of us?” Loki cuts in. “So, you’ll-”
“They’ll kill your beloved once they find out Y/N isn’t Laufey’s missing child. I’m under the impression that you don’t want that to happen. Am I mistaken?”
“I don’t want Y/N imprisoned again. Father will forbid we speak to one another.”

Why I Want Loki to Live
Okay, I know that I have made it very clear that Loki is my ultimate favourite character in the MCU, and obviously, at a surface level, I would very much like to see my favourite character back and alive and happy again.
But beyond that, I think it is necessary to explain why I feel that Loki’s death is perhaps the most painful and tragic of all the deaths in Infinity War.
Don’t take me wrong, if I had it my way, I would certainly want every single person who died in Infinity War, whether it be by the snap or otherwise, to return because I love them all very much.
But Loki, I want Loki to return because honestly, that boy deserves some happiness in his life.
Ever since he was a baby, he was brought into Asgard, has had his identity kept away from him for so many damned years by Odin who was not doing it for Loki’s protection in any way, faced an entire existence of being not good enough and a failure and never had any actual love from anyone around him, except for Frigga, Thor, and only in the few moments of Thor: Raganarok, Odin himself.
It was this self-hatred and self-loathing, and harbouring the centuries of pain that caused him to let go when he was at the Bifrost in the first Thor film, and then this was what caused Thanos to encounter him in this extremely volatile and vulnerable state.
Tumblr media
This is not a face of someone who is thinking of faking his death; this is the face of a man who just cannot hold onto anything anymore, and has given up and just wishes to end his pain.
And in this state, he encounters Thanos who manipulates and tortures him into submission, gives him the Mind Stone, making it seem like he can finally  get something he wishes to get, and makes use of the hatred within him to turn him against his brother and become that maniacal murderer we see in Avengers. I mean, come on, isn’t it obvious that the Loki from Thor is surely nothing like the Loki in Avengers?
And then, of course, naturally, Loki’s first encounter with the Avengers team is as a villain. They all hate him, and really, I don’t at all blame them for that.
And then, in Thor: Dark World, we get Loki, who attempts to make it up to his brother, loses his mother by his own action of setting the Frost Giants upon Asgard, even ends up putting himself at risk of death to save Dr Foster, and yes, he puts Odin from the throne and sits on it as Odin, but remember, this Loki is the one who is still psychologically tormented by Thanos and is torn apart, trying to find his own standing. Remember also, Thor threatens to kill Loki here if he doesn’t cooperate with him, and in a deleted scene, he even tells Frigga to give up on Loki.
Here, Thor begins to give up on Loki because he’s beginning to feel that he has completely gone off the rails and is pure evil.
Tumblr media
And then, we get Ragnarok. Here, we get Loki and Thor in this crazily oscillating relationship, we have Loki who is just so damn traumatised by Thanos that he engages in a suspiciously sexual relationship with the Grandmaster in Sakaar (it has been hinted, but really, it is not that difficult to discern from a few scenes, and looks at hos uncomfortable Loki looks), all in the attempt to hide from Thanos, meets his brother, and then gets left behind for dead by the very same brother. Yes, Loki was being an ass for trying to betray Thor again, I concede, and I don’t blame Thor for this being the final straw.
Tumblr media
But... in the very same film, we get Loki finally coming back. We see Loki’s motivations: he wants to be a hero, he wants to be loved and admired and he wants to have fun. That was literally what he was doing as Odin in the first parts of the film, and in a heartwrenching touch of irony, that is what he does when he finally returns to Thor.
Tumblr media
And then.... we get some wonderful minutes of the two brothers, finally coming to terms with each other and working out together....
And then... just as we expect a hug, we get the end credits scene.
Look at how utterly terrified Loki looks here.
Because he knows how Thanos is like... and he knows what would happen.
And... we know what happens next.
I know Loki hasn’t been a perfect person, honestly speaking, no one truly is. But the one thing that keeps Loki apart from everyone else that died is that he... never had a proper family and friends that he could always rely on. There were many moments he was completely alone... and everyone left him alone, and somehow, he had successfully faced all that, and become what he always wanted to be: a hero.
Therefore, he needs to continue living as the hero he had always wanted to be.
And think of it this way... Thor’s last words to Loki were something along the lines of “you are the worst brother”... Imagine the pain he feels, and still feels... Imagine the pain he will feel if everyone else returns but Loki.
Give Loki his life he deserves.
Give Thor the brother he loves.
Give us our Loki.

Okay, out of the blue, but if they really wanted Steve to end up with Peggy (for reasons that have nothing to do with gay panic, no sir, not a bit, I'm sure)... They could have done it????? Like, you are literally the ones making this shit up, you could do it well, if you were interested and respected the characters.
Like, honestly... A third infinity war/endgame film.
The biggest issue is that Steve going back to Peggy, staying there, abandoning the present timeline, comes out of nowhere. But you're making the thing! You could make it come from somewhere! You are writing it, you can fucking justify anything.
Okay, so for me the whole thing went off the rails completely when they sent Steve By Himself back in time to un-do what a Whole Goddamn Team of them did. Would it not have made more sense for everyone who was on the original mission who was still physically able to go do undo the things they did???
But okay, I'm imposing rules, all the things that we saw happen still have to happen. So.
So it's that "oh yeah, he's gonna do it all himself, I know it took like an hour of screentime and like seven characters the first time, but Steve by himself is gonna do it and it'll be done in eight seconds" that was so jarring, I expected "put that thing back where it came from" to happen between films, or in a separate movie or something, and so having it slapped on the end with a neat bow around it was... One in a long line of unsatisfying things.
But if they showed us????
So endgame was already p long, and unless you were including other characters, it'd be difficult and shitty to cut a lot of screen time out just for the wrap up... But then, that's always the challenge of the last thing in a franchise, so, suck it.
But let's say Steve going back in time and... Not showing up again was the end of endgame, or endgame ended on another cliffhanger, maybe after they all got back from the time heist and had the shit blown out of them.
So then a large chunk of the "third" endgame film is "put that thing back where it came from", either with additional help, as would be sensible, or Steve by himself. Esp if a large chunk of your movie has already been devoted to a tribute/character stuff for Tony, then the latter half is Steve. Doing his thing. We actually see how easy or hard it is for him to return the stones. Maybe get additional set up for future films as he takes the time to un-do the tessaract/loki kerfuffle. Does he have to return Thor's hammer too? This is an opportunity to establish whether your timetravel actually does spawn alt timelines, or is internally consistent.
We get to see him meet redskull again.
Maybe he tries to bargain with him, to trade the stone for Natasha, and learns it doesn't work like that, and has to decide if he's gonna leave the stone with a gaurdian who was once his worst night mare... For nothing. Maybe we see him face some of that old fear, and find a little closure.
Maybe we even see him have a convo with shade!Natasha, as he thinks, since Thanos was able to do that with Gamorra, kinda, through the soulstone. She has a further opportunity to explain why she is or is not okay with this turn of events, why she was willing to make that sacrifice and sit-out the happy ending. Why she chose to Stop fighting, rather than persuade Clint to work with her to find a work-around, or something.
And Steve hits on that idea, the idea of being Done. They have an opportunity to finish out the emotional plotline they opened in Winter soldier, and continued in civil war, where she was trying so hard to be a good friend, wanting so badly to learn how to help her friend find happiness and not be sad anymore.
Maybe it's in here that he brings up Bucky, brings up the people he would leave behind. Maybe she's the one who makes him take a hard look at what happiness looks like for him. Maybe she's the one who first makes a comment about how resilient ppl like her and Bucky can be, or something. Reminds him that what she had needed, in the end, wasn't One Person (thinking of Clint and or Bruce), but a team, a family, a support network. And she'd gotten it.
There's a little closure there, too.
And so he returns more stones.
And then he's in New York, and we maybe see him have a serious conversation with Tilda Swinton's character, another character who, canonically, has faced (or is preparing/prepared to face) what death/retirement/stepping out of the fight looks like. We see Steve struggling with and ultimately making that choice. To step out of his timeline. Or, back into his old timeline. She seems to understand timelines, so we can have a short mechanics-discussion, and... If it's parallel timelines, then Steve realises he can have his cake and eat it too, he can have Peggy and also rescue Bucky and it won't screw anything up, and he just has to step back into his old timeline to let them know what he chose. (And, I can't help it, maybe drop off his ice-self from the parallel timelines. Just saying)
Or, if it's not, if the timelines are, idk what it's called, self-healing, then Swinton explains that.
And so we are brought to understand that if he chooses to go back... He still can't save Bucky. He could invest all his energy and life into it, but because Bucky wasn't saved, obviously Steve couldn't save him... But maybe, Steve might realize, the reason Winter Soldier happened the way it did was Because timetravel!Steve had laid groundwork for it.
And so he realizes that he's gonna decide to stay with Peggy because, like Harry Potter seeing himself across the lake, he already HAS decided that.
So he does, he stays.
We see him make the choice, but we don't see what the choice is...
And the movie snaps back to everyone waiting on Steve to come back. And he doesn't.
And we see the old man on the bench.
And either immediately then, or in flashbacks between lines he delivers to other characters (falcon, maybe), we see snapshots, maybe no audio, Steve and Peg deciding to lie about who he is, to everyone, doing their best to thwart Hydra, laying the groundwork that would eventually reveal Hydra and expose Bucky and allow what happened to happen.
We maybe even see the funeral scene, see old!Steve explaining to Sharon (who never officially knew he was Steve Rogers) that he just can't do it. He said some words at the rosary the night before (if they're Catholic), or at the private wake (if they're Irish or Catholic), but he doesn't think he can get up there in the big ceremony, she's all official, a respected member of govt, would she mind terribly?
And so we get a shot of young Steve and old Steve, on opposite sides of the church, old Steve noticing his younger self, young Steve too stricken to notice.
And as that part winds down, we realize...
Bucky's not surprised.
Bucky's a little sad maybe, but some line, the way he said goodbye before Steve traveled... We suddenly realize Bucky's not surprised.
Because he knew.
Because he was the only character who saw timetravel!Steve and recognized him from before. Maybe because Steve came close to busting him out a time or two... Hell, maybe that's even part of how Steve gets to the lake unnoticed. Maybe old!Steve has been in contact with Bucky, maybe for a while, maybe since Wakanda, even. And so Bucky knew. Knew what Steve was gonna choose, before Steve did.
And has had time, a lot of time, maybe. To figure it out. Maybe Steve had originally thought he'd give the shield to Bucky, and it was Bucky who turned it down.
(and maybe that is a thing that we learn in Falcon/Winter Soldier, part of Falcon realizing that Bucky respects him a lot more than he had originally thought)
Anyway. It could have been done.
But much in the way of the Game of Thrones ending, it was done with haste, and without care, and so... Wasn't done.
But it could be.

Family Therapy Gone Wrong
Prompt: Thor, Loki, and Hela go to family therapy
A/N: Hope y'all like it!
@genderfluid-loki-and-trans-peter
.................................................................
"So. Tell me what's been going on."
"A mortal like you could never understand," Loki snapped. Hela glanced at her little brother with a hint of approval.
Thor had insisted they all come to what he called "family therapy". Loki thought it was stupid. They would never be a perfect little family. He doubted their issues could ever be resolved, especially not by a Midgardian.
Hela had shared Loki's concerns, though she made it clear that though she agreed with him, that did not mean she liked him.
However, in the end Thor had managed to drag his two siblings along to family therapy. Loki just hoped it would be over soon. He already couldn't stand it.
Thor glared at him. "Loki, mind your tongue." He turned back to the therapist, not seeing Loki mocking him.
"Well, my lady, we have seen quite our share of trials. My sister here-" Thor gestures to Hela- "had been banished by my father to another realm for quite some time. Loki and I have only recently met her, and this was a few minutes after our father's death."
Loki yawned as Thor went on to describe what had gone on the past few months. He studied his nails as Thor described Ragnarok, Thanos, and then Hela showing up with Loki to defeat the mad titan.
Loki glanced at Hela, who had also taken to studying her nails. It unnerved the young prince at how similar he was to his sister. Both had long black hair. Both liked the color green. Both had a helm of horns. And both were out of favor with their dead father.
Thor finally fell silent. Loki studied the therapist, surprised to find her calm and collected. Truly either this Midgardian was either very good at hiding emotions or had experienced something like this before.
The woman adjusted her glasses. "Well that's quite the story you have. How have you each felt about these events?"
Loki rolled his eyes. Like he was going to open up to this mortal!
Thor, unsurprisingly, went first. He described his grief, anger, pain and frustration. Loki bit his lip, holding back his insults. Thor knew nothing of pain. Pain was sweet compared to the agony he had felt throughout the past few years.
Surprisingly, Hela hesitantly opened up a little. She expressed her resentment at being locked away, and the smug satisfaction she felt when Thanos was defeated.
Everyone looked to Loki. Obviously he was expected to open up next. But this prince was not going to give anything to this therapist or his siblings. Better to hide one's emotions. That way you don't get hurt further.
The therapist smiled sadly. "My dear, it is understandable to want to hide one's emotions. But keeping them locked up will do more harm than good. Trust me, I know."
Loki looked up. How could she possibly know anything? He studied her intently. She almost seemed to...open her mind to him. So he accepted the invitation and looked within.
Loki's eyes widened as he exited the mortal's mind. This therapist, named Emily, had been through much. However, her battle had never been physical. She had battled with something called Depression, a mental illness that, now that Loki knew what it was, he realized he might have it too. She had nearly killed herself, but her brother had stopped her and got her some professional help. From then on she dedicated herself to helping others struggling with mental illnesses.
Much of Emily's plight reminded Loki of himself. He, too, had tried to kill himself, that fateful day on the Bifrost. He had never expected to survive. It was his unfortunate luck that had allowed Thanos to capture and torture him.
Loki sighed and decided to share. Perhaps it would be good to get it off his chest.
Besides, he could always at least wipe Emily's memory.
"My troubles began before Odin's death," Loki began. "They began the moment I was taken from my birthplace, Jotunheim.
"I was raised by Odin, but I always felt left out. I always felt different. I was often ridiculed and mocked, and my own brother, Thor, would often ignore me, as if he thought me beneath him."
Thor started to interrupt but Emily shushed him. "It's Loki's turn," she scolded.
Loki nodded his thanks and continued. "Then, after Thor had been banished to Midgard some years ago, my true heritage was revealed to me. I was the son of Laufey and heir to the throne of Jotunheim.
"Suddenly, everything made sense. I had never felt like I belonged because I didn't. I was a stolen relic, a monster, an enemy to Asgard.
"And then the All-Father descended into the Odinsleep. And I was suddenly king of Asgard, the throne thrust into my hands when I was still reeling from my earlier discovery.
"I decided to tell Thor that Odin had passed. Why? Perhaps I was getting back at him for neglecting me all those years. Perhaps I was just causing some mischief, the one thing that still made sense to me.
"He believed me. I then turned my thoughts back to my recent revelation. Mother, of course, tried to help me, but there was only so much she could do. She didn't understand. Ultimately, I was alone.
"I knew Thor couldn't come back, however. The All-Father had not yet awakened, and thus I couldn't know if he were allowed back yet. Besides that, I knew that if he returned that I would once again become his inferior, perhaps even more so now.
"So I sent the Destroyer after him, hoping it would stop him from coming back. Unfortunately, it sought to kill, which was something I did not want. Thor came back to Asgard angry, and rightly so.
"However I couldn't admit I had made a mistake. Thus we began our first true fight against each other.
"Odin awakened, and dismissed me. I told him I would've done anything for him. He rejected me. Thus, I let go of Thor and let myself tumble off the Bifrost, hoping I would meet a swift end.
"However, Thanos found me and rescued me. He tortured me for a whole year until I swore to do his bidding. If I didn't, then he would make me long for something as sweet as pain.
"So I went to Midgard, pretending I had went there of my own bidding. I was there to collect the Tesseract, also known as the space infinity stone. I was given the mind stone to help me in my endeavors.
"I then decided that I would purposefully fail so that Thanos could not win. Thor took me back to Asgard. Odin, that merciful being, sentenced me to solitary confinement in prison instead of killing me. And I would never again be allowed to see mother.
"I felt angry and hurt. Mother was the one person who had always had sympathy for me. And now I would never again see her. What was worse was that later on, I instructed the svartalfs on which stairs to take. They proceeded to kill mother. I still haven't forgiven myself.
"Thor then asked my help with his Midgardian girlfriend, Jane, who was possessed by the reality infinity stone. I helped, and sacrificed myself in so doing."
Loki glanced at Thor. "Perhaps if you would've asked me how I survived, I would've been able to tell you that I didn't know. That I truly thought I was going to die. But you never did. You assumed I merely faked my death.
"After that, I sent Odin to Midgard and took his place. He was not fit to rule. I knew one who was, however. Thor.
"As Odin, I offered him the throne. He declined in favor of further maturing.
"Thus, the responsibility was once again on my shoulders. I did not want it, but I learned to enjoy it. I was a much better king than Odin. Asgard prospered under my rule, and our people were significantly happier than in past years.
"Thor discovered me and thought I had been playing him a fool. I was not. I knew that if I revealed myself that I would be sent back to prison. And I didn't want that.
"Thor and I then witnessed Odin's death. Soon after, Hela showed up. Thor and I crash landed on Sakaar.
"I visited Thor in his prison. I tried to express my feelings to him then, but he wouldn't listen. He never listens.
"I helped Thor out of prison, but I knew Hela to be too powerful for us. Besides, I was afraid to go back to Asgard. So many bad memories existed there. And despite my frustration with Thor, I did not want him dead.
"So I tried to trick him so he would not die and I would remain emotionally intact. And perhaps I was also paying him back for being so hurtful with his words and actions.
"However, Thor stopped me. Electrocuted me and left me there on the ground. I was in agony. I hadn't been in such pain since I had felt the svartalf's blade pierce my chest.
"However, I had endured worse at Thanos' hands, so I could not be taken into blissful unconsciousness.
"A rock person eventually helped me. And though Thor had tortured me, like so many others, I went to help him save Asgard.
"To do that, I had to release Surtur. Unfortunately, there wasn't time to get out without dying. However I spotted the Tesseract. That was the key to my escaping with my life.
"The rest of Asgard escaped while Surtur and Hela battled. Surtur of course won, and Hela died. But of course she came back. You can't keep the goddess of death dead for long.
"Then Thanos attacked our ship. He'd killed half our people. The Valkyrie led the rest to safety. He also then killed me.
"Or so he'd thought.
"Instead he had merely caused me agony. I had to make the bloodshot eyes and pale visage an illusion so that he would think me dead. It worked.
"I then went for help to the only one I knew who could. My sister.
"And ultimately we saved the universe."
The therapist finally seemed surprised. And she was not alone. Both Thor and Hela seemed at a loss for words. Loki could hear their thoughts:
"He went through all that?"
"Those were his intentions?"
"He has been through more heartache than any I have ever encountered."
Loki scowled. "Stop."
"Stop what?" Emily asked.
"I can hear all your thoughts. I don't need your pity. I thought we were here to work out family issues."
Emily paused, a bit unsettled, before continuing. "Loki, you are a part of your family. Your issues are also your family's issues, because no one should go through life alone."
"Tell that to Odin," Loki muttered. Hela snorted.
Emily sighed. "Well, I'm afraid our time slot is up. We'll work more on this next Thursday."
Loki stood, dusted himself off, and quickly left the room. Thor protested, but Loki kept moving. He left the building and ran into a deserted alley.
Finally, he slumped to the ground, and for the first time in years, he let himself cry.

The Real Endgame Chapter Two
Okay Marvel fans, here we go! Chapter Two!
Things start moving a little towards the end of this chapter. As soon as this is posted I will be working on Chapter 3! Hopefully that will be up by Wed.
To the person who commented about watching all 22 movies: Yes! It is a little ambitious to try all 22. I do say that I don't ever fully abandon something I have written. So it may take me a long time, I do plan on finishing this.
I will say this! This will be a multiple story arc. This one will contain meeting the OG crew and gathering everyone as well as the full first movie. After that each movie will have its own story. I don't plan on this being only watching the movies, there will be other things happening.
Stay tuned!
Disclaimer: I don't own Marvel
The Plan is Put in Motion
Over the course of the next two weeks the three Avengers worked all hours of the day and night to perfect the plan that had been put in place. Cassie had needed to go back into the notes and files left by her father and Doctor Pym to recreate the Pym particles and the machine needed to send a person into a different time.
Morgan had spent the time redesigning the original suits used when the Avengers tracked down the Infinity Stones. She had updated the style and the safety features. She had also gotten started on building the machine that would send her to the past. Yes, it had been decided that she would be the one going to the past. That had been a fun conversation…
Two weeks earlier….
"Alright," Cassie sighed as they met the next morning in Morgan's lab. "If we are going to do this we need to iron out some details before we start building anything."
"Oh?" Morgan hummed from where she had started pulling up old files on Friday's system. "Like what?"
"Well, first off, who is going to go?" Cassie asked coming around the table to face the Stark Heiress. "What kind of repercussions is changing the past going to have on this future? Is it going to rewrite ours or is it going to create a splintered timeline and leave ours intact?"
"I can answer the last two," Doctor Strange spoke up from the sitting area where had was reading some dusty textbook. He continued when he saw he had their attention. "This timeline is fragile due to the jumps the Avengers made 25 years ago. When we send our person to the past and they begin to change the timeline, this future will begin to fade away. Unfortunately, the person who is sent to the past will be stuck there. They will become a part of the new timeline and will not be able to return. There will be nothing left to return to as this future will, essentially, cease to exist. That is why the answer to that first question is very important. Whoever goes back must be completely willing and understand that it is a one-way trip."
"Oh," Cassie sighed and sat down in the office chair. She obviously didn't want to be the one to go back, and Morgan didn't blame her. Cassie was married and had two small children she had to think about. Even if the timeline faded away she would want to be with her family when that happened.
Morgan on the other hand, didn't have anything holding her back from going. Her mother had passed away a few months prior due to complications with cancer. Her godfather Rhodey had died in a battle a little more than 10 years previously. Happy had passed away 3 years ago in an assassination attempt on her, he had pushed her out of the way of a sniper. He hadn't even been working, he had retired but remained an amazing friend over the years. Morgan had never married or really gotten involved with anyone. The only people she would be leaving behind would be Peter and Harley, and of course the new Avengers team, but they would all understand her need to do this.
"I'll go," Morgan said as she came to this conclusion. Cassie opened her mouth, most likely to argue, but Morgan interrupted her. "I really don't have anything holding me here, everyone who would have argued with me is dead. Peter and Harley will understand, even if they don't like it."
"You're right," Cassie admitted and reached over to grab her hand. "Besides, I got my father back all those years ago. It's time you got yours."
Morgan smiled at her friend as Strange looked on. He had already known it would have to be Morgan Stark, but she had to come to that conclusion on her own.
Present….
During the last two weeks Doctor Strange had been pouring over his spell books to make sure that everything in the movies were accurate and that he had made the right call about what was going to happen to the timeline. He had also taken to comparing notes with Morgan and Cassie about the physical effects that this will have on the body. Though he may be a master of the mystic arts he is still a medically trained Doctor who has kept up his training in the years since his accident.
Finally, after two weeks of long days and longer nights, they are ready to send Morgan back to 2012, to when Loki had been defeated and the Avengers were newly formed. The day before they had finally let the rest of the local Avengers know of their plan. As expected, Peter and Harley were less than pleased but understood that Morgan needed to see and save her father. Of the two Peter was the more understanding and the more devastated that she wanted to do this alone. Peter, Harley, and James (Steve Rogers grandson who took the mantle of Captain America after Sam retired, also the occasional boyfriend/friend with benefits for Morgan) all had offered to come with her, but she had said this was something she needed to do herself.
They all gathered around the rebuilt quantum tunnel to watch. Cassie was at the controls prepping it for go time. Morgan was messing with the settings on her wrist control nervously as everyone shuffled around. Finally, Peter had enough…
"Morgan," He said and stepped forward. He grabbed her by the shoulders and tilted her face up towards him. "Are you sure about this?"
"More than anything," Morgan said softly as she met Peter's eyes. "I have to do this. The world never really recovered from Thanos, it can be prevented all together. I also might have a chance to save my father."
"Okay," Peter sighed and pulled her into a tight hug. "Remember what I told you. There was a little boy he saved from the drones the first year he restarted the Stark Expo. The little boy was dressed as Iron Man. Only the boy, your mom and dad, and Rhodey knew about saving him."
"Right," Morgan said resting her head on his shoulder and just hugging him. Eventually she leaned up on her toes and pressed a kiss to his cheek. "Thank you for everything Peter. You have been an amazing big brother to me all these years."
She stepped away and turned towards Harley who had been waiting silently behind Peter. He opened his arms and she stepped willingly into them. They stood for a moment in silence, there wasn't anything that really needed to be said except, "Good luck little sister."
Morgan nodded into his shoulder and kissed his cheek like Peter before stepping back. The next inline was James. He looked a little lost about her leaving. She stepped up to him and put a hand on his cheek and looked into his eyes.
"Maybe in another life we could have had something," She said for his ears only. His deep blue eyes met hers in understanding before he leaned down and kissed her gently.
"I understand," He said softly as he wrapped her in his arms. "More than anyone probably. Alright, took me awhile to come up with something that this Grandpa Steve would know, before he traveled back to have his happy ending the only time he had kissed Grandma Peggy was just before he boarded the plan that he crashed into the sea. The only people who knew about that kiss is the two of them and Colonel Philips."
"Gotcha," Morgan sighed and stepped away. She turned to look at the others. The next person to step forward surprised her just a little.
"Morgan," Thor smiled as he gently set his hands on her shoulders. In the years since he left to travel with the Guardians he had regained his former stature. He was thin and strong again, he had cropped his hair to short spikes, his beard was trimmed close to his neck, the scar along his face was faded and white. He looked like the God of Thunder again. Recently he had come back to Earth and New Asgard and sat down with his people. Valkyrie had been ruling in his absence but as it turns out she wasn't meant to be a Queen. The people want Thor to be their king again. He said that he would return soon to retake the throne, now he won't have to if everything goes according to plan. He squeezed her shoulders gently. "You are so like your father, I have often wished that I had known him better. I wish you luck and happiness."
"Thanks Thor," Morgan smiled up at the tall Asgardian in front of her. "I hope I can make things better for you and your people."
"Me to," Thor smiled before becoming serious. "For the past version of me there is something only he, Loki, Sif and the Warriors Three know. It is rather recent for him. When I had taken Loki and the others to Jotunheim before my banishment I was confronted by a Frost Giant Soldier, he insulted my pride 'Run back home little princess' were his words."
"Ouch," Sam Wilson winced as he walked closer. His hair was silver, and he walked with a cane, but he was still the man who Rogers had trusted The Shield too all those years ago. "Knowing what I do about you Thor that probably didn't end well for anyone involved."
"Right you are old friend," Thor responded and stepped back. "The resulting fight was the reason for my banishment."
"Not surprising," Sam sighed and shook his head. He took Thor's place in front of Morgan. He looked at her for a moment before pulling he gently into a hug. "I don't have some weird line or moment to give you kid. I was somewhere over Afghanistan getting shot at in bird suit at the time you are aiming for. Hopefully my ass will get brought home to watch with you if everything goes according to plan."
Morgan smiled into the hug. They weren't as close as they probably could have been, but she always looked up to the older man. She squeezed him tightly before kissing his cheek and stepping back. "See you soon Sam."
The next person to come forward was a good friend all through her life, someone she looked up to as a cousin, Lila Barton aka Hawkeye. Lila looked at her long-time friend before she slugged her gently in the shoulder.
"Ow!," Morgan complained as she rubbed her 'bruised' shoulder. "Tell me how you really feel then Katniss."
"Haha," Lila rolled her eyes at the old nickname. "Take care of yourself kid. You already know what to tell Natasha and Dad."
"Yeah I do," Morgan said softly and pulled her into a hug. The two let go and Lila stepped back.
Stephen and Cassie were the last too step forward.
"Alright Morgan, this is it." He smiled at her gently. "Cassie has everything calibrated and ready to go. Are you ready?"
"Yes sir," Morgan said with a small smile. She reached forward and dragged Cassie into one last hug. She soon released her and turned towards the device. She stepped up onto the platform before turning to her team.
"If this timeline doesn't fade, tell the others what I've done," Morgan told her team. "Our team is large and there are a lot of our friends who couldn't make it home on such short notice. Let them know I love them and that I am sorry for just leaving without warning."
"We will kid," Peter promised her. "We love you, 3000."
Morgan laughed slightly at their old goodbye. She looked down and activated her suit, it formed around her using the nano tech that her father had developed. The new time suit looked more like her Rescue armor than the old Antman style suits. She reached down and gripped the two cases she was taking tightly. One contained the 22 movies that Strange had created, the other was full of the things she couldn't leave behind on the one-way trip. Beneath the suit she was wearing was the bracelets and necklace that held the nano pieces of her Rescue armor. She turned her head and nodded at Cassie who was once again at the controls.
"Activation in…3…2…1…"
Cassie flipped the final switch and it was as if the floor had disappeared beneath Morgan and she fell into the quantum zone at the size of an atom. The heads-up display showed her the course she needed to follow to reach he target time. She followed the projected course and in seconds there was a blinding flash, and a gut wrenching feeling before she appeared in the penthouse of Stark Tower as The Avengers were taking Loki into custody.
There was silence for a moment as she took everything in. Before she could say anything, weapons were pointed in her direction by the Avengers and the newly arrived SHEILD **cough**Hydra**cough** agents. Her hands went up above her head in the universal sign for don't shoot. The silence was broken by Barton,
"Who the hell are you!?"
In Morgan's home time…
The gathered Avengers watched as she disappeared into the quantum tunnel in silence. Cassie was flipping switches and reading the monitors for another moment before the lights on the platform went dim. She took a step back and looked at everyone.
"She's arrived in 2012," Cassie said simply. "She should be appearing in Stark Tower as they arrested Loki."
"How soon till we start to fade? Will we even be able to tell?" Harley asked as he turned away from the platform to look at Lang.
"I don't know," Cassie admitted with a small shrug. "I am not an expert with this, I just know the research left by my father and Doctor Pym. Doctor Strange?"
"We here in this room will have a vague feeling of weightlessness as this world starts to fade," Strange said as he walked to look out the window into the city bellow. "We are aware that it will be coming and will have a sense for it. Much like you felt the snap coming all those years ago on Titan Peter. As for when? Well if I am correct our timelines our technically synced for now. We will not begin to fade until the Original Team begins to realize the changes that need to be made. This won't happen until they start to see their future. I'd say we have a week, maybe two."
"A week," Harley sighs and takes his phone out of his pocket. He looks at the background photo of his girlfriend. "Better make it worth it then hmm?"
"We aren't actually dying Harley," Peter points out as he runs his hand through his hair. "But I don't see why we don't be around our loved ones for when the moments does arrive."
"You're right Pete," Sam says, as the official leader of the Avengers everyone turns to look at him. He meets the eyes of everyone in the room. "As of right now the Avengers are disband. Go home to your loved ones. Only if something threatens the lives of everyone will we step in. If two weeks pass and we haven't faded we will reconvene and discuss the possibility that she failed or that this timeline won't actually fade."
"Yes Sir!"
With that the Avengers left the tower for what would be the final time.

Chapter 13: Keeping Safe
The next morning I woke still nestled in between Tony and Steve but Thor was nowhere to be seen.  I managed to wriggle out from in between them, and as soon as I was clear they moved toward each other, obviously not ready to wake yet.  I used the bathroom and then went into the living room to find Thor working at a desk.  Volstagg was guarding the door to the children’s room.
“Good morning,”  Thor said looking up.  “Glad to see you’ve joined the land of the living.”
“Are the kids okay?  One of them normally wakes the other and they come and get us.”  I asked.
“Still asleep,” Thor said.  “I checked on them.”
“Do you need help with anything?”  I asked.
“I would appreciate your insight on this scheduling.  There are so few I trust here, making sure the warriors get the rest they need and having everyone guarded is difficult.”  Thor said.
I came over and sat down in his lap and he put one hand on my thigh, tightening it for a moment before just letting his hand relax.  “I’d prefer that you stay with me.  I think that will be the best way to keep you safe.  I’d like at least two people with the children at any time.”  He said.  “I know that Steve can handle himself, so I am not too concerned about him.”
“And Tony?”  I asked.
“I don’t want to say he can’t handle himself.  I know he has the suit…”  Thor said.
“But you’re aware of his fragile mortality?”  I said.
He nodded and put his chin on my shoulder.
“Well, he’s going to want to go to the lab and work on the bots now.  That’s for sure.  Would you trust Tony and Steve alone together?”
“Perhaps.  I think together they should be strong enough to at least hold out a fight long enough for Loki and I to get there.”  Thor said.
“Well, what if Steve and Tony stick together.  And I’m with you.  Then the warriors and Loki can rotate keeping the kids safe.”   I suggest.  “Then when the bots are done there’s extra security on everyone.  Plus the others will be here soon enough.”
“I can make that work,”  Thor said with a nod.  He filled out the timetable and began to write a letter.  I couldn’t understand anything he wrote though as he was writing in what looked like runes.
“I should go and dress for the day if I’m tailing you around,”  I said.  “You could always have either you or Loki with the kids at all times too.  So if you put down when you’re needed to do things elsewhere, Loki can be with the kids.  He won’t mind even with the warpath he’s on.  He loves spending time when Pietro.”
“He does love that little boy,”  Thor said.
“He does.”  I agreed.  “I wonder what that is exactly about?  I’d put it down to the fact he loves books so much.  But remember when he came to meet them?  They were still all floppy and only just learning to roll over.   Even then he wanted to hold Pietro first despite the fact we said he was the one that was more likely to cry.”
Thor shook his head.  “Maybe he always suspected Pietro wasn’t mine biologically and therefore not the heir to the throne.”
I nodded slowly, mulling the hypothesis over.  “Could be.  Perhaps he wanted to make sure he always felt worthy the way he didn’t feel that.”
“It’s hard to say,” Thor said.  “If I understood the inner workings of my brother better, we wouldn’t have the trouble we do.”
I went to stand and he took my hand and looked up at me.  “How are you feeling this morning?  I feel like I ought to check in on you.”
I smiled down at him.  “Better.  Sleep helped.  It was dreamless too.  So that’s good.  I’m obviously still anxious, but so are you.  That’s not going to go away until this is all put to rest.”
He kissed the back of my hand.  “We will get to the bottom of this.”
I kissed him gently and went and bathed.  I changed into a less formal looking Asgardian dress than I had last night.  Though saying that, it was still far more elaborate and formal than I normally dressed.  The dress was gold with black thread work through it and wrapped around me.  Over the top, I wore a blue and black cloak.
When I came back out to the living room Steve and Tony were both up as were the kids.  Pietro was sitting in Thor’s lap drawing on some paper as Thor continued to work, while Riley tore around the room.
“Mommy!”  Riley squealed and slammed into my legs.
“My goodness, you are so hyped lately,” I said, crouching down and cuddling her.
“That might be her connection with Asgard and her newly obtained powers,” Thor said.
I nodded and moved to the couch.  “Sounds reasonable.”
The door open and Loki stalked in.  “Surprise brother.  Apparently, we have more siblings.”
Thor looked up startled and Pietro reached for Loki.  “We what?”
Loki took Pietro from Thor and the little boy snuggled into his uncle’s chest.  “I do not know who this woman is.  But she seems to be an envoy from the kingdom of Heven.  Before either of us were born our parents had two other children.  First was a son named Aldriff.  Back then Asgard was waging war everywhere.  Aldriff was killed by a spy from Heven as an infant.  Next was a daughter.  I have been unable to find anything else except word that she existed.  It’s like every record pertaining to her has been erased.”  Loki explained.  “This new faction is claiming that Aldriff was never killed but taken and raised in Heven to one day take the throne here.  Much like our parents did with me, intending I return and take the throne on Jotunheim.”
“If our brother is a worthy ruler, I’d gladly give him the throne.  Why all the subterfuge and violence?  We have no quarrel with Heven.”  Thor said.
“Wait… just back up a second.”  Tony interrupted.  “There’s a Heaven?”
“Of course, Tony,” Thor said while Loki rolled his eyes.  “These myths you have on Earth usually have an origin elsewhere.”
“Well, regardless, it looks like Heven may have been holding on to some past anger and plan to put their own puppet on the throne,” Loki said, turning the conversation back on track.  “There may be descent in your council.  I will continue to look into it.  If we can smother that it should crush any further attacks.  Heven is not strong enough on its own to take us.  It needs the support of the people.”
“And you’re sure our guest is of Heven?  Aren’t they usually possessing wings?”  Thor asked.
“I don’t know what to tell you, brother.  This is all I know so far.”  Loki said with a shrug.
There was a knock on the door and Fandral lead in the same chef from last night along with some others who were all wheeling trays of food.
“Yay!”  Riley squealed, running over to the carts.  “You maded yummy food.”
“I did, little princess.”  The chef said.
“Fank you.”  She said, looking up at him and bouncing on her feet.
The chef picked up a plate and turned crouching down and offering it to her.  “Made special for the princess.”
She clapped her hands and a breeze picked up. “Fank you.”  She took the plate and then very slowly and carefully carried it to the table.
“You are most welcome.”  He said.  “I’ve made something else for the little boy if he’d like it.”
Loki brought Pietro over and took the plate.  He tasted something and looked down at Pietro.  “You can eat it.”  He said.
“Fank you,”  Pietro said, looking over the food and then carefully sampling some, exactly as Loki had just done.  Meanwhile, Riley had made a complete mess with her food already.
“I’ve taken some liberties with the cuisine to try and make it more to your tastes.”  The chef said.  “I hope you enjoy.”
“Thank you so much,”  I said.
“Is yummy!”  Riley added, enthusiastically.
“This is the highest of praise.”  The chef said.  “Thank you, princess.”  He bowed and left the room followed by his staff.
“Winning hearts there, Rie?”  Tony asked and she grinned up at him, her face completely covered in food.  He came over and began looking over the carts as I helped myself to a selection of things.  “So, what’s on the menu this morning?  You know, aside from -”  He made an obscene gesture and I hit him.
“Tony!  The kids.”  I yelped.
“Uh-huh,”  Tony teased.  “You know you want it.”
I rolled my eyes and took a seat at the table.  “Riley, please use your fork.”  I sighed.
She scrunched her nose and picked up her fork.  She stabbed her food with the fork and then took it off the fork with her hand before putting it in her mouth.
Steve chuckled.  “That’s not how you do that, Riley.”  He said.
“I use dem.”  She said defensively.
“You put the food on the fork and then the fork in your mouth.”  He instructed.
She attempted to do as he said but the food fell off her fork and spilled down her dress.  Steve chuckled and sat down, putting her on his lap and helping her eat.
After we’d eaten the kids got cleaned up and we prepared to split into our respective groups.
“Alright.  The children are mine now.”  Loki said.
“Who’s staying with you?”  I asked.
“That would be me, my lady,” Fandral said, making a large sweeping bow.  Loki looked at him with an expression of complete boredom on his face.  “The lord Loki appears very excited to have me.  That’s okay.  We shall have fun.  Shan't we, your majesty?”  He said kneeling in front of Riley.
She did a wobbly curtsy and patted his cheeks.  “I’m majesty.”
“Where do we want to go, children?”  Loki asked.
“Wibwawy,”  Pietro answered quickly.
“No…”  Riley whined.  “Is borwing.”
“Let us compromise.  First, we shall spend time in the library and then we shall do something Riley would like to do.”  Loki said.
Riley scrunched her nose.  “It's okay, your majesty.  I'll be there.  We can make it fun together.  Annoy your uncle Loki.” Fandral said.  He offered her his hand and she took it.
“Alright, kiddos. You stay with Loki and Fandral.  No wandering off and no talking to strangers.”  I said as Loki and Fandral headed to the door with them.
“Subtle, Elise.”  Loki teased as the twins called out ‘bye-bye’.
After they were gone Hogun led Tony and Steve down to the lab and Thor took me along to a meeting with his advisors and I got to see exactly what being the King of Asgard actually meant.

Daddy’s Little Hel: Kiera Rogers
chapter 3: Princess of no nation
Loki was abruptly awoken by a servant sent by Odin, requesting his immediate presence at court. Thor was still being searched for, having not spent the night in his own chambers. Loki clenched his eyes and sighed as he stepped out of the grand four poster bed and went to the basin to wake himself with cold water.
As he dried himself, he could the hear the chatters in the halls outside his room, which only muted when the people curtseyed to the second prince as he walked out of his room and made his way to the king's court. The past week had been politically very busy for Asgard: he himself had taken a small troop to quell a coupe gathering in a village; Thor had been sent on his own mission; and Odin had gone to the kingdom of Alynia on a diplomacy trip. So far, both the brothers had seen victory, as Thor had obviously celebrated in his usual ways.
Loki was met at the great hall doors by the warriors three, who filled him in on their own adventure, as well as Thor's. While lady Sif walked a mile ahead of them, she still growled her disapproval at Thor's infidelity.
The court stilled and made way for the soldiers to reach the throne, and everyone bowed as Odin walked up to his seat and sat down. The king noticed the absence of his older son, and looked to the younger, and Loki could only give him an eye gesture to make his father understand. Odin sighed and cleared his throat to collect everyone's attention.
"This week, has been a very busy week for our political delegations, and it comes with both success, and loss. My sons, were sent on their separate missions this week, and as expected, they came out victorious."
The crowd clapped and Loki looked over to his mother, who greeted him with a pleased smile, and Loki smiled back at her in return.
"Myself, alas, is a different story. I had lead a delegation to our ally kingdom of Alynia. Asgard's presence, was of course, for peace. But that of the Celestials, was not. As of this week, there no longer remains a kingdom of Alynia."
The court was in uproar and the five soldiers looked at each other, and Loki to his father, who gave him a nod. Odin had to stomp his scepter to gain the court's attention again.
"The destruction of an ally nation, has instigated an invitation to war, and Asgard will not stand still. The celestials are a powerful kind, but we are a nation of warriors, and we will keep this war from coming to our doorstep..."
Odin gave an inspiring and assuring speech and dispelled the court, but kept the presence of Loki and Lady Sif.
"There is but one flame of light that comes from the ruins of Alynia. I require the services of both your talents, and it becomes the reason you two are being told of this. Thus I ask of you two an oath of secrecy, that this does not go beyond the people you see in front of you, that includes Thor and the warriors three."
Loki and Sif placed a fist over their hearts and bowed before Odin continued.
"We brought home a survivor of the royal family of Alynia."
Odin aparated a door in the wall with his scepter and a troop carried in and placed down a palanquin, and left the room. Frigga gracefully approached it and stuck her hand through the veils and lead the princess out. Loki and Sif bowed to the young queen and she curtseyed in reply.
"Lady Sif, you are the goddess of war. As the last of kind, Queen Sigyn still hangs on the fragile thread of war. Being that she may well indeed be affected by the loss of her people and relocated to an entirely new place, I bestow upon you the responsibility of her safety, as well as making her feel welcome and adjust to Asgardian life."
"I accept, my king." She again bowed to Odin with a fist on her heart and then curtseyed to the young Queen.
"Loki, you will share the responsibility with Lady Sif, but I have the need of your unique powers. Queen Sigyn is a protégé in the magical arts, but has not finished her training, and your mother wishes that you be her tutor, to perfect your own abilities as well. Additionally, it has come to be that Queen Sigyn does not understand nor speak our language, neither do we hers."
"You want me to use a spell on her." "Precisely."
Loki looked over to his mother, who urged him to continue.
"I will need her permission I presume to make her speak our tongue, given that it does require a personal gesture. So, she will need to understand our language first." Loki said, unsurely looking over at Frigga, who assured him he was right.
The prince worded a spell in the old language and a ball of green smoke formed in the palm of his hands. Frigga assuringly held on to the foreign queen and ran a hand down her back to comfort her as Loki approached them with the eery substances in his hands. He spread his hands farther, seemingly stretching the smoke between them and brought his hands up and over Sigyn's head, bringing the smoke down as if a crown. The green cloud stayed circled around her head and Loki moved his hands back, letting the cloud seep into her head, flowing through to her brain to make her understand the Asgardian language.
"Your Highness, if you understand me now, please nod your head."
Sigyn had her eyes wide in surprise, and slowly nodded her head, having understood what Loki had asked.
"Umm, as is clearly required, or requested I should say, you have to speak our language as well, as it is much easier to have us understand you in our language than take long for many to..." he refrained from continuing as Sigyn placed a hand on his shoulder.
Loki cleared his throat before continuing, the red climbing up the sharp edges of his cheeks.
"For you to speak Asgardian, I would have to, um, I would have to kiss you."
Sigyn sighed a loud sigh(not of annoyance) and stood straighter, nodding for Loki to do what he must.
Loki stepped closer and rested his hand in the dent in the back of her neck as he read another spell while Sigyn closed her eyes, her lips slightly parted.
The prince leaned his face in, closing his eyes as the tip of his tongue slightly rest a little protruded in between his lips. And then he kissed her. Her upper lip clasped between the two of his as his tongue slightly touched hers, as required for the spell to take effect. The kiss lasted a whole thirty seconds before both of them opened their eyes and quickly pulled away, their faces wearing matching shades of blush. Loki then as fast turned back and went back to his spot next to Sif, and Sigyn turned to Odin, expecting him to test her, which he did.
"My dear queen, what is your name?"
"I- I am Sigyn, Queen of Alynia."
Odin then introduced to her his wife and son, as well as Lady Sif, and explained what role each if them would play in keeping the foreign queen hidden and safe. The king then dismissed Loki and Sif as he and Frigga wanted moments alone with Sigyn as she know understood what they had to say to her. Loki and Sif bowed to Odin and Sigyn and made their way out of the court, and the prince stopped in his tracks for a second to look back at the foreign beauty, who looked back at him over her shoulder, both smiling a gentle smile at each other before they went their separate ways.

Avengers: Infinity War Review
Tumblr media
Avengers: Infinity War is the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest venture, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. It takes place 2 years after the events of Avengers Civil War and follows Thanos on his quest to gather all the infinity stones and destroy half of the universe.
As this is a film that has been 10 years in the making, with elements and threads from nearly every MCU film, there is a lot to talk about and most of it consist some kind of spoiler. I will go over general impressions in the first half and get into most substantial, plot related spoilers in the latter, but if you don’t want to know anything about this movie before seeing it, I suggest you come back to this article after you’ve already done so.
This is a difficult movie to talk about; it will definitely draw out a reaction but how positive or negative will hinge on how much you love event comics and Thanos as a character. I can’t say I liked it, but there wasn’t much that I thought was objectively wrong with it, in the way of say the Last Jedi. So let’s start first with the things I liked.
Nearly every character that’s in this movie gets a moment to shine, be it an action beat, a scene, or just a good one liner. At no point in the film did it feel like a character was underutilized or unnecessary and the Russos do a great job at juggling all the different personalities and plot-lines. Despite the sheer amount of people the action is clear, the film rarely feels like it drags and more or less uses all its players to their fullest potential, with several having a lot more room to breathe and play.
The plot as I said is pretty pedestrian; it’s just “Thanos wants the stones so he can destroy the world and the heroes want to stop him” which works for this type of story. It’s nothing to write home about and the twists come from the individual character plot-lines and while I didn’t love it, it was pretty unobtrusive and allowed for more character interaction which is always a positive in my opinion.
The action is also for the most part excellent, with the Russos making sure everyone gets at least one scene where the kick ass, including the villains. They also get pretty creative with the different powers in the film, especially the infinity stones. There are several downright amazing scenes that showcase the time, reality and soul gems, and the two characters who get to show off the most in terms of power are definitely Thor and Strange.
Speaking of, another thing I liked was that the characters that carried the plot and got the most screen time weren’t the ones I expected would. Tony is the only one who I knew would get a lot of screen time and does, but I actually really liked his story-line; it was probably one of the best the MCU has done so far. The Russos really like and understand Tony’s character, and his emotional conflict having to do with the fear of losing Earth and all his friends, his guilt over the Avengers dissolving, him returning back to paranoia after the dissolution and creating the nano-tech suit were all excellent. The ending was also incredibly powerful for Tony specifically and there is one scene that was so emotionally visceral, it actually unsettled me.
Thor was another character that got a lot of screen time and I’m still somewhat conflicted over his character. I loved Ragnarok and I think Waititi’s Thor was the best and most accurate one we’ve gotten so far. So I was really worried when I read an interview with Hemsworth which talked about how he at first didn’t like the direction his character was going in.
And at first I agreed with him; the beginning of the film especially felt like Marvel just hates Thor and all of his supporting characters and in a way completely negates the ending and the message of Ragnarok, because it makes everything that happens in that movie irrelevant so we could get this one. What I did like was that at least (unlike Taika) the Russos gave Thor a moment to grieve and come to terms with the all the horror that happened to him in these two films and and just be human. There is a pretty touching scene between him and Rocket which I really appreciated and their pairing was very entertaining.
Strange was another character that got to shine and I liked his dynamic with Tony, especially Strange giving up the stone to save Tony’s life (even if he had ulterior motives), after plainly saying he would save the stone over everyone.
And now for some stuff I didn’t like. I’ll start with the more minor things and build up to the two major problems that I had with this movie. ACTUAL SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT FOLKS.
Firstly, this is an event comic in movie form with all the good and bad that comes with it. It’s all action and spectacle and contains surprisingly little humanity, other than in the form of jokey jokes and one liners. The tone is grim and though the film doesn’t take itself too seriously it still pauses for grandiose speeches which absolutely kill the momentum dead. Combined with the amount of characters this means that every character that isn’t plot relevant would get one line, or one scene or mostly one joke and then they are out of the movie.
People like Nat and Cap, who have been veterans of the MCU get completely lost in the shuffle. Sure they get fight scenes, but they don’t get any kind of emotional backstory. Bucky, Sam and Rhodey might as well not be here for all they do, even if they do get some funny lines here and there. Bruce fares a bit better, at least being present in most of the film, the entirety of the Black Panther cast gets like, a scene and a half and let’s not even get into people like Pepper, Loki and Wong who literally get ejected out of the film after one scene.
Gamora, Thor and Tony, are the only characters who get any emotional substance to them; the rest aren’t even deigned a subplot beyond the minimum necessary requirement to tie them into the main plot. An especially egregious example of this are both Wanda and Vision and Peter and Gamora’s romances.
Both of these romances were set up in previous films, but while they had time to slowly develop, here they need to be at Earth-shattering, I-need-you-to-kill-me-or-the-world-ends levels. This is less bad with Peter and Gamora because we’ve had more time with both characters and two whole movies to develop them, but Vision and Wanda only started really interacting in Civil War, and now they are at the stage where they are promised to each other? I also didn’t like that both romances had the same resolution; in case things go wrong Gamora and Vision ask to be killed, the only person who can do it is Peter or Wanda and we get a dramatic scene where exactly that happens only for Thanos to swoop in with one of the stones and change the outcome. Diminishing returns, is all I’m saying.
Wanda’s character had nothing to it beyond being worried and in love with Vision, but Peter… oh poor Peter.
First he gets into a stupid pissing contest with Thor about who is manlier which was just the most inane, stupid thing, then he does the exact same with Tony, and then (because the film needs him too) completely loses his mind about Gamora, and attacks Thanos, allowing him to steal the time gem and escape. Look, Peter was never the smartest person, and he does have an insecure, competitive, peacocking streak, but he was never an idiot like this film makes him out to be! Honestly all the Guardians are shafted; Mantis and Drax are barely in the film, Groot gets a single scene of cool, Rocket, while funny is relegated to being Thor’s sidekick/psychiatrist and Peter is turned into an idiot!
And now we get to Gamora. Poor Gamora, this movie did her dirty. Just a reminder, Gamora is one of the most skilled and bad-ass assassins in the galaxy, she is notorious and infamous in the Guardians films. Her entire plot in vol 2 was coming to terms not just with the abuse that Thanos inflicted on her as a child, but also the abuse she was complicit in with the other children, specifically Nebula who she was actually close to. The film ends with them starting to come to terms with this, and forgiving each other, but not Thanos who doesn’t deserve their forgiveness.
But then in this movie, she gets fooled into thinking she killed Thanos, gets kidnapped by Thanos, leads him to the soul stone and gets unceremoniously killed as Thanos’ sacrifice to get the stone. And all the time, she gets emotionally blackmailed and gas-lit by Thanos who keeps calling her his daughter, saying he wants to see her on Titan’s throne, how he sacrificed his crazy ass mission to save her once on her home-planet and choses her as the one thing in the universe he loves but has to trade to get the soul gem. WHAT?
Are we supposed to feel bad about Thanos? Thanos, the sociopathic, sadistic, torturous, unambiguous villain, who by that point in the film has killed the entirety of Asgard, including Loki and Heimdal, and the Grandmaster and the entirety of Knowhere? I absolutely hated the implication that I should feel sad because Gamora was wrong and he did love her. Not only does it badly undercut the message of vol 2 which is abuse is real and has lasting effects, but the movie wants us to on some level side with Thanos and think that Gamora really was ungrateful, since he obviously loved her and she betrayed him. They even give her this stupid speech about how the universe is punishing him by demanding he sacrificed something he loved since he doesn’t love anything, which was so over the top and drawn out and made Gamora sound like an idiot! It made me want to throw things at the screen.
I don’t need or want complexity and sympathetic traits given to a villain that has been nothing but a sheer force of evil and destruction thus far. It would have been so much better to just go the Galactus route with Thanos and make him just an unstoppable chaotic neutral force, rather than some deluded mad genius. I’m sorry, but am I supposed to sympathize with a villain literary referred to as the Mad Titan, whose grand master plan hinges on him believing the overpopulation and over-consumption myth so hard that he wants to destroy half the universe to remedy it? This is the better story than him trying to impress Death that Marvel came up with?
Even if overpopulation wasn’t a myth (which it is) what happens when living beings once again reach the status that they have now? He would have to snap his fingers every 10 000 years or so just to keep the status quo. It’s ridiculously stupid and infuriating and the film treats his plan like it actually has some merit and he’s somehow a mad genius who just goes about it the wrong way. I really didn’t need a 10 min scene of him mourning how he had to kill Gamora to get the stone that lets him DESTROY HALF THE UNIVERSE, complete with sad music and a flashback to baby Gamora asking him what kind of price he paid for his own insane plans. We could have spent that time giving Cap something to do, like maybe acknowledging that Tony, his best friend is lost in space and the world is ending.
The Russos love Thanos, he’s clearly their baby but I hated him. He took time away from the heroes that I wanted to watch and didn’t bring anything to the table but melodrama that was completely unfounded. It was also additionally frustrating because he a) is so much more powerful than any of the heroes combined and b) we know he gets all the infinity stones by the end of the film. So the question isn’t how the heroes will win, but how long will they last against him. The ending also undercuts itself, because the heroes don’t win; the glove self-destructs after Thanos uses it, meaning it would have done that regardless of if Thanos met any resistance while acquiring the stones, meaning this whole 2 and a half hour film was pointless!
The other part of the ending was shocking, but it’s not meaningful, because we know all those characters aren’t dead. We know we will get a Dr Strange 2, Black Panther 2 and Guardians 3, and we know Avengers Infinity part 2 comes out next summer so we know they are still somehow alive. My guess is they are all trapped inside the soul stone, since only the glove got destroyed at the end. Sidenote, aren’t Tony and Nebula still on Titan? So can’t they just like… sneak behind Thanos and stab him now that he’s wounded and can’t use the stones anymore?
This was a frustrating movie to watch and even more frustrating to talk about. There were things I liked, like some of the characters and humor, but for the most part I thought it was overblown, melodramatic and focused too much on the one character I cared least about. I am curious about part 2, but honestly? I feel the same about this movie as I do about event comics; who TF is Thanos and can he get out of my Guardians ongoing so I can return to reading about the characters I actually like and care about.

Afterthoughts after Ragnarok
Tumblr media
So, I had the opportunity to watch both Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok as a double-feature at an IMAX cinema yesterday, which was… fangirl heaven, in a nutshell. I can only highly recommend watching the second installment before Ragnarok because it is a nice reminder of the details, basically. And of course, it sets the mood. 😊
I just wanted to quickly type up some initial thoughts on Thor: Ragnarok because I am fangirling hard right now.
THEREFORE – BEWARE OF SPOILER ALERT.
Tumblr media
To send this ahead: I went into the movie not having any expectations. I really tried my best to stay clear of great spoilers (other than the clips and scenes that were released as part of the promo). I hoped for a retro-adventure arc from the old days, but I wasn’t holding my breath for it. Though gladly, my hope was not at all disappointed. The bright color schemes, the music, the slapstick moments which are MUCH more prominent in this movie than any of the Thor films… it was what I was hoping for – and more.
Being a proud member of Loki’s Army and a general Hiddlestoner, I obviously have my biases when it comes to what scenes I enjoyed a lot, but overall… the movie did what I wanted it to do (again, I just talk here personal wishes and interests): It made me laugh and took me on a fun ride. That is what I wanted, and this is what I got.
To dig a bit further into the matter, there are some things that I wanna mention that I particularly enjoyed or that interested me:
Obviously, the destruction of Mjölnir alongside Thor unleashing his *true* potential as the God of Thunder is a big theme of this story arc (one that may not be that absolutely original, but that still resonated with the overall theme of what the movie was getting at; to me, it fed in nicely into the narrative and resonated with the Thor movies as a whole). I am actually rather fond of the idea that we see more of the God of Thunder than the God of Hammers (thanks, Odin, for that comment 😉). With this story arc, we reach a new level and a new skillset for Thor to fetch from *and to master,* so I am pretty excited to see what they are going to do with that in Infinity War, and as to where Thor is going to take his newly unleashed powers or where there may be hardships for him.
I do wonder whether Thor will seek *some* sort of replacement. Obviosuly, Mjölnir isn’t going to return in that fashion. It was a unicum and it has been rendered superfluous when it comes to Thor’s thunder powers. However, it *is* the weapon he has been using for… hundreds of years, so it may be that Thor will use *a* hammer alongside his now unleashed true thunder powers. Perhaps a bit of nostalgia or otherwise simply something to use in close combat, which is obviously also part of his fighting style. So, I am pretty hyped to see what may be done with that in the upcoming movies of the franchise.
In that same breath, I suppose it may be worth mentioning that we also saw something with God of Mischief Loki when it comes to new or otherwise not yet made explicit skillsets. Loki touching Valkyrie to dig up the memories she repressed for so long (and drowned it in lots of booze in the most wonderful of fashions ♥), to me, actually fed into the idea of not just introducing new characters and their skillsets or in case of Thor, showing their true potential, but also showing us what already known characters still have in store. While we already knew about Loki’s ability of manipulating and accessing people’s minds, I believe this is the first time we saw him *activate repressed memories* and *witness* them. Yet again, it had me wondering whether that skillset will prove useful in one of the following movies. A random thought I had last night (and please excuse, it was VERY late when I had that thought, hehe) was about whether Loki using that method may prove to be interesting in Bucky’s case and the memories that were deleted/locked away or what not, which may or may not be something of interest in the Infinity War story arc (WHERE ARE YOU, TRAILER???). if said memories were somehow vital to the plot.
Speaking of our favorite trickster, I found his arc a joy. Not only the jokes and the return of the horns, but particularly his trickster-self being back in full swing made me really happy. The previous Thor movie built heavily on Loki’s revenge for Frigga, in general the family problems… which there were… a lot of…, and of course his ongoing wish to lay claims to the throne, out of which he felt cheated once his origin was revealed to him in the first Thor film. The vibe I always had of particularly comic!Loki (though I am not too deeply invested in the comics, I will admit, but from what I have read, that was my general impression) was really this idea of causing, as his name has it, mischief, being the trickster, collaborating with whoever in order to somehow maneuver out of situations, only to be bound to clean up the mess he made (with the Revengers 😉 ). And I found that sort of spirit resonating with Loki in this story arc much more than in previous installments. While I very much enjoyed the idea of revenge and his ongoing battling with his family due to the differences that lie between them, I feared that they would just go on with that instead of giving it a new twist, but I felt like this actually was the twist that suited not just the overall mood of the film but also Loki.
So yeah, I am pretty happy to see Loki back in the role as God of Mischief as much as I enjoy Thor now being in full God of Thunder mode. The story arc had a nice conclusive theme of the two arriving at *who they actually are,* and thereby returning to their roots, which I thought had a nice touch to it.
Other things that have me wondering after having watched the movie: Is Sif to return? She wasn’t one of those who fell *on screen.* Because she may potentially be a bit of a wildcard in the upcoming movies, especially after… Jane and Thor are no more, it seems. But yeah, I don’t know if that was just a filming issue or whatever else. I do hope to see Lady Sif back in all of her glory. Especially since I want to see her interact with Valkyrie! They could bond so wonderfully over being awesome warrior ladies. :3
Speaking of Valkyrie, I really love her. ♥ I love her drinking speed (lol), and for that she is *as for this movie* a secondary character, she had a developed story arc (which of course… is now not the super deep-reaching stuff that you would get at if it were a movie just about her and her origin story in a much more serious setting than the Marvel franchise lays out), Loki’s backflash was gorgeously shot and it really took you into this *epic* moment of defeat when the Valkyries fell against Hela. Another thing I quite enjoyed about how her character was written is the easiness with which she interacts with other characters, she is witty, she is cute, and while hostile towards e.g. Thor and Loki (lol) in the beginning, I found it a joy to see her interact with the Hulk. Since she is so strong, she is unafraid of interacting with him in a friendly manner outside the battlefield, which I found had a nice touch. I hope to see more of her. A lot more.
Now, Hela. Cate Blanchet has the swagger of a Goddess of Death. Holy Shit. I loved the costume, I loved the attitude, and I have no clue how she gets the daggers out of everywhere but she does it majestically, and that is all that matters, lol. While more of a cartoon villain (but that is what fitted the mood best, let’s be real) in many regards, I found some touches of how they framed her return really interesting. While Norse mythology would have something to say about her being made firstborn daughter to Odin when she is actually one of Loki’s children… it was a rather intriguing commentary on how history is made, at least in my reading. Hela has been erased by her own father once she grew too power hungry for him. She was erased from public memory as she was cast into the realm of the dead.
Not only did that shed a rather interesting light on the idea of succession – because now we don't just have one son who was chosen by the father to have the throne as opposed to the son who wanted the throne, but didn’t get entitled to it, but also a female heir who had rights to the throne until she was considered unfit in Odin’s eyes. Actually, the repetition is what intrigued me, because it fed nicely into the idea of Ragnarok on what it is at its core, the Dawn of the Gods and the moment of a self-repeating world. Because Ragnarok is happening over and over, in different forms, and to me, that was the vibe I got from that succession question, too. Loki turned out rather similar to Hela in that way (though with a difference, to which I will return later, so hold on). Hela felt/was entitled to the throne until Odin deemed her unfit due to her violence that did not match his political agenda following the conquest era. Loki felt entitled to the same honor, but was seen as unfit for his ambitions/birth by Odin.
On that same note, I really liked this idea of history being rewritten by the winners (in this case Odin). Odin glossed over Hela’s involvement along with the conquest period (if Hela can be believed) to prevent her danger from reaching further after her banishment. At the same time, he portrayed and literally painted himself in a certain way (not just on the ceiling) that may not have been as reflective of the reality of the origin story of his rule as it could have been.
Similarly, I did find it an interesting way of handling Odin’s legacy after he’s passed away in the early stages of the movie. Odin dies after the conversation with Thor and Loki in which he seemingly tried to make peace with himself and them (and likely with the idea in mind that they arrive at a truce as well, so to have a chance against Hela together). So, the first impression we got was “oh, he leaves this world at peace with himself and everyone else, he is redeemed.” And at first I was a bit like… hm, I don’t expect great narrative arcs in this movie, not the gut-wrenching, complex moral dilemma that… other movies are made for, but that seems rather cheap. However, looking at Odin’s arc in this last movie as a whole, I did find it rather interesting (because yeah, I think he made a good couple of mistakes particularly with Loki that made him prime for some sort of redemption needing to be done). Because after the redeem-momentum, we get this reversal of history narrative via Hela, which gives way and depth to questioning his rule as a whole. And it is concluded when he tells Thor in a vision that he is stronger/better than him, not the other way around. Now of course, protagonist is getting the hype it takes to win over the enemy and unleash new potential and all, but I found *that* as a nice redemptive mode that yet again tied back to the very idea of Ragnarok. Thor, symbolized by having his eye removed like his Father (*cries*), is repeating Odin’s history – but with a difference. He steps up to that legacy, but does so differently from what Odin did. And Odin recognizing that and pinpointing it as the stronger/better way is something that I found hit the point home with the redemptive mode surrounding his death.
Now, this is getting far too long already (I am rambling and I am sorry), but one last thing I wanted to speak of – as a member of Loki’s Army: Loki’s (short but entertaining) reign.
Especially since I started out watching the previous Thor movie before Ragnarok, the question that remained as a sort of cliffhanger was just what kind of rule Loki would pursue. I mean, he was one of the big gun villains in the first Avengers movie, he was the big gun enemy in the first Thor movie, and obviously caused mischief wherever possible. While we knew of Hela taking over, thereby pointing to Loki’s rule not being very long, I personally did wonder what they would have Loki’s rule look like.
He may well have turned out to be the Hela type, kill all the infidels, and be a gigantic asshole with a lot of sass. However, his reign, however short-lived… it was basically one big party. And now of course, it was for comedy for many parts, but I did find it rather interesting and actually resonating with how they set up Loki all the while.
For all his talk and attitude of being the lone wolf and only ever being interested in himself, the God of Mischief has always been seeking the approval of his family, or at the very least, their attention (positive or negative, didn’t matter, so long it was some kind of attention). Ever since learning about his origins, I think the factor that was added to the whole idea of him wanting that throne no matter the costs was that he was seeing the approval of the Asgardians.
And in a way, I find that rather organic storytelling: Loki knew he wouldn’t get the approval of his family after what happened, after what was revealed about him. I mean, he gave that speech (which Hiddleston enacted beautifully, btw) to Odin about how he is now a monster that the children are told about to make them afraid of said monsters. And I think it is rather logical that he sought the approval of the people who are now supposedly afraid o him for his Jotünn roots. Being admired, being accepted by them as king would make him less of a monster, it would get him the approval he could no longer find with his family past a certain point, it would give him the approval he thought he couldn’t get by virtue of his birth. And across the movie narrative, at least that is my impression, that wish did not die down, but actually increased over time.
And now, having seen Ragnarok, I somehow tend to stick to that reading, because Loki relished the approval of himself. But it wasn’t *just* the statue (though it was a matter of heart to him, I am sure), it was that he (as Odin) was partying – with the people. He wasn't just sitting in the throne room feeling powerful. As Thor points out, he didn’t do much of anything with the power he had as King of Asgard for as long as it lasted, but instead… seems to have been partying the whole time. And again, obviously, the comedic moment is quite at the front, but the idea that Loki would spend his reign trying to be friendly with the people, having fun, was not just so very Loki-like (see that theater… damn, I laughed so hard at the play) but also resonated with this overall arc of seeking approval. While all the while claiming not to care what others think of him, Loki seeks it again and again, whether he likes it or not. And in the end, it is and will always be his one family whose approval he is seeking most (as he himself asserted at some point) – he wants Thor’s approval, he wants that guy’s attention, even if it’s just in a negative sense.
While I am most certain that he will turn on Thor again (he did have some fun time before gathering the Eternal Flame with the Tesseract and all), I remain positive that this will simply be status quo now. Thor’s not trusting him is actually, in a way, his trust in him. Thor knows Loki will pull shit, Loki knows that Thor knows… it’s going to be fun to see how they may continue to try to outsmart the other but rather in a friendly manner.
So, to now conclude this way too long rambling: If you want to have a fun Marvel ride, Thor: Ragnarok is your friend. The music, the mood, the story, it flows well and easily. You won’t grow tired or bored, neither are you overloaded with input. The slapstick, to me, was hilarious. And while Norse mythology was very much twisted around to fit into the narrative, I personally found some traces of the idea of Ragnarok not just in the metaphor of it being the people, but also in the way the characters were portrayed and moved through their story arc. It delivers funny, and to me, interesting secondary characters. It may be read as containing some interesting commentary on history making and the question of redemption and legacy alongside the self-repeating world in succession, where legacy ends and characters arriving at where they are meant to be begins.
And finally, I think the movie does something great for both Thor and Loki (and also for Valkyrie and Hulk if in different senses) in that it returns them to their roots. They are now the true God of Thunder and the true God of Mischief again.
And that, to me, is a great way of heading into Infinity War.
It is definitely worth the watch. 😊

The God and The Programmer (Part Four)
Original Summary: Loki runs the most popular business in the world, while (Y/N) works as a Programmer for him. When Loki throws a party for everyone, a team of hackers finds its the perfect time to steal information. Loki doesn’t like that. But he can’t have (Y/N) ruin the fun, either.
Part One, Part Two, Part Three
Loki sat alone in his office, staring at the security cameras in the library, watching your reactions to the book you were reading. This job was a mere coverup, a way to hide who he truly was before his return to Asgard, but nothing had prepared him for you.
Although creepy, he had been watching you since the moment you stepped foot into the building, immediately infatuated with you. The way you held yourself up although tired, and the way you tried to keep your cool in the most stressful of situations.
He knew a week later that he was In love.
It took every bone in his body not to kiss you then, for he knew you weren’t ready. Despite your faith in him, he knew absolutely that you were not prepared to spend your entire life with someone who you just met a mere day ago.
Loki knew that you needed time to actually fall for him, and to learn more about him, which is why he was allowing you to find his Journal from several years ago in the library. You were just honestly skimming through titles of books in the large library, before finding his journal.
You bit your lip, your eyes widening in an obvious mental debate. Should you look in it, or should you not. It wasn’t like Loki cared at all, but he was curious to wether or not you would read it.
The contents in that book could make or break your views on him, for all his thoughts and actions were right there in your hands. So instead of looking at it, you placed it against the table.
“Dolly?” Your voice called.
“Yes miss?” She replied.
“Can you call Loki for me?”
“Of course Miss! Just one second!”
He would have to give you a cellphone no doubt, one that cannot be tracked from anyone or anything. He followed your movements from the cameras scattered around his home, stopping as you walked to the main phone.
“Hey Loki!” You smiled. “I was just wondering if I could read anything in the library?”
He didn’t miss the emphasis you put on anything, or the way that your feet tapped with anticipation. “Of course darling.” He smiled softly. “What’s mine is yours.”
“Even private things?” You asked.
“If you are ready for what’s in that book, my love, than I assure you that it is fine.”
Your smile dropped. “You… you knew I found it?”
“I don’t remain who I am without precaution, (Y/N).” He chuckled. “By all means, read it if that’s what you choose to do.”
“You’re not going to kill me for it…?” You asked jokingly, he could see the smirk appear on your face.
“Oh absolutely.” He chuckled.
You laughed back, and by God it was the most beautiful thing he had ever heard. “Well, I suppose I’ll see you tonight.”
“Indeed.” He replied as you hung up the phone.
You kept your hand on it for a moment, before squealing with delight. You fist pumped the air and sprinted down the hallway into the library, where the book remained still on the table.
You immediately opened the book, unable to expect what you just began to read. He watched you for an hour, both to gage your emotions, and to make sure you weren’t going to kill Dolly or the chefs after reading it.
“Fuck dude.” You muttered, flipping the page. “That’s messed up… poor Loki…”
He sighed in relief. He was worried you would hate him after that page, the page that got him banned from Asgard. He had attempted to lead a rebellion, one to capture the throne, which obviously failed.
“Odin thought I was weak.” He remembered writing. “So I wanted to prove my strength to become king. He forbade me to ever step foot on Asgard again, wanting me dead for what I had done. Mother was the only one who stood up for me, and I now owe her my life.”
He was sitting in a cave, the only light being that of a fire he had created for himself while he wrote. It would take another year before he became ‘human’, and even longer before you began to read his book.
He thought you would be angry with him, just as his father and brother were, but you were just as upset as him, even taking his side. He smiled and shut off the security program. He had a meeting to go to anyway.
~~~
“So now you know my story. Goodbye, Mortal.” The last line read.
“Goodbye?” I repeated. “Does that mean goodbye as in it’s the end of the book, or don’t return kinda goodbye?”
“I expected you to run.” Loki said, walking into the library. “I hadn’t expected somebody who read the book to stay, such as the last assistants I had.”
“Why would I leave?” I asked.
“Every thought I’ve ever had is in that book. Every page filled with my pain and wrong doings. Why would you stay?”
“Loki, you had good intentions.” I sighed. “You’re just… misunderstood? That’s not the right word, but I’m going with it.”
He chuckled and shook his head, snapping his fingers. In a split second we were standing in my burning Home, my younger self screaming for my parents. Tears came to my eyes as the fireman yanked me away from their corpses, and out of the burning building.
“I can make you live your worst nightmare.” He stated softly. “I could make dreams come true, or I could break your soul with the flick of my hand.”
I turned to face him and gulped. “So do it.”
He raised his eyebrow. “What?”
“I said do it. If you want to kill me so badly, do it. I won’t fight back, I won’t scream, I won’t stop you. Do it.”
“You think I would kill you?”
“That’s my point.” I smiled. “You wouldn’t kill me, Loki.”
He blinked, but smiled. “Tricked the trickster. Interesting.”
I winked. “Come along Then, Loki, I’m hungry.”
~~*On Asgard*~~
“Heimdall, how is Loki?” Thor asked.
“He seems to be doing well.” He replied. “He has fallen for a Mortal who seems to be well for him. He is changing to be better, for her.”
“Does he want to come home?” Thor asked. “Does he regret his actions?”
“He wants to come home for the throne, Thor. It is unwise to visit him in his prime, he seems to be getting better with the girl at his side.”
“I miss him, Heimdall.” Thor sighed. “Although tricky, He is still my brother.”
“I know, but-“
“I shall visit him soon.” Thor smiled. “I wish to meet the woman who has stolen his heart.”
