Secret Project Announcement!
This is stupidly ambitious and I might regret it all later, but anyway:
I’ve been working on a little secret project for awhile! By request, I figure I’d finally spill the tea. I’m currently calling this project My Beloved Friend: Alexander Hamilton, John Laurens, & Queer Erasure (subtitle is subject to change maybe? Stand by).
For a very short and dirty summary: My Beloved Friend is planned to be a non-fictional examination of the relationship between Alexander Hamilton and John Laurens. The book will cover all sorts of aspects including (but not limited to): each man’s personal lives, in-depth analyses of the correspondence between them and with others, the time Hamilton and Laurens spent together, with others, and how these events might have impacted them, and how the possibility of something more than friendship has been perceived since their deaths—from books (both non-fictional and fictional), the stage, and the modern Internet at large.
Essentially, I will be leaving no stone unturned.
This is currently a side project alongside my Hamilton historical fiction series The American Icarus. However, I feel like this topic needs the space it deserves in the academic sphere, and should be looked at seriously and wholistically—whatever the outcome. Right now the project is in very early outline stages, so while it’s very slow-moving, I’m intending this to eventually be published professionally (however long that might take is unknown, as is whether this will be published under my real name or the pen name I use here is currently up for debate, but that's besides the point). I just have to y’know, research and write this thing first.
If you have any further questions or something you’d love for me to know about, feel free to hit up my inbox and DMs. Would love to chat!
Let’s see how this one goes....

BOOKS I READ IN 2023 Here's what I read in 2023. What has now become an annual tradition of sorts!
An unusual year in reading for me. The first half of the year was very slow, and I mostly finished two long books I've been trying to finish for years by William Morris and Robert Musil. Then the PSAC strike, and more time to read. After that, I made a reading plan and stuck to it, trying to read every day at least a chapter of a book on the list. I also ended up re-reading several books this year - transcribing notes at first, I ended up going over the entire book a second time. I also tried to take extensive notes on every new book. I also snuck a few theses I read onto the list - it feels weird not to include a several hundred page work I went over with a fine-toothed comb. Mostly academic books, germane to my own research and writing, but some strong forays into topics I don't normally think about much. Plus some genuinely good 'amateur' history, too.
Re-reads are marked by a plus sign and my most enjoyable or interesting reads are marked with an asterisk.

i love studying. i love writing. i love reading. i love learning languages. i love doing mathematics. i love wandering over some particular sum and trying to come up with formulas to solve it. i love physics. i love biology. i love chemistry. i love history. i love literature. i love learning.
not to achieve the perfect grades ever. but it just amazes me that there's so much to know and learn and write and read about in the universe. my curiosity wouldn't get enough of it.
