Pedro’s characters live in or were raised across various cultures, and seeing this chart, so many of my favorite fics flesh out the below-the-line behaviors, which adds a richness and complexity that is so enjoyable to read. Kudos to you authors who dig below the line for your fics. I know it takes effort and time, and you are doing it not for money, but for the love of writing, of sharing, of exploring these characters. You are wonderful.

I'm writing BA dissertation on good for her genre and Tumblr's users' reception of it. If anyone would like to help me and tell me why is this genre important to them and maybe answer few questions I'd be very happy.
(It will be written in Polish but if folks who text me were interested I will be able to translate the parts where I quote them.)

Whlie I do not agree with the message of the music video, I did not expect this level of honest from K-pop. Soyeon could have been a rockstar if she were born in the west, but how interesting that in Korea this character is in a K-pop band.

now you know how to call it: Russian imperial appropriation
“The process of Ukraine’s cultural decolonization that follows its political independence from Russia has been slow and conflicted not least because a long history of imperial appropriation has affected and continues to affect the very way Ukrainians think of themselves but also the way Europe and the rest of the world see Ukraine. Imperial appropriation means such a discursive presentation of the colonized that their culture, history, language, and other identity traits either disappear completely or merge with the respective aspects of the hegemonic imperial identity. The imperial appropriation seeks to deprive a colonized people of a sense of their authenticity and, with it, of the will to exist as a separate self-sustained and self-reproducing culture. Alongside literature, historiography, film, and other domains of human creativity involved in the production of ideologies of domination, language has been a central tool of the imperial appropriation of the colonized.”
Shevchuk, Y. (2009) ‘Linguistic Strategies of Imperial Appropriation Why Ukraine Is Absent from World Film History‘  in ed. Zalewska Onyshkevych, L., Rewakowicz, M.,Contemporary Ukraine on the Cultural Map of Europe  London, p.359

Sometimes you read something before making coffee and then you start mentally analyzing the naming conventions of Ken Russell movies and how they reflect complex explorations of the self in conflict with his environment and that's how you know you're on the right track in life.

I'm absolutely devastated, in my university class yesterday we were learning how to scrape data for language analysis, and we are culture studies students we barely know how to use a computer, so I expected it to be a very simplified process
What I did not expect was having to use chat GPT to do it for us?? Like the professor literally told us to get chat GPT to write a code that will export the text from excel lines each into individual text file... And it didn't even work? The code chat GPT put out didn't even work, and in the next class we will be modifying the prompt so that it works...
And I'm sorry but today I googled how to do the exporting thing, and it's not even that difficult? There's a tutorial with a code you can paste that's really simple and not only works but it tells you how you can modify it to get the exact results you want. That's what the class should be about!!
Yeah we're not learning programing, that's not the thing we signed up for learning, but analysing language might be the thing some of us end up doing, and it seems so wrong to have absolutely no understanding of the software required for that, and just spinning the ChatGPT roulette until it works out, that was the first time I used chat GPT and I'm gonna try my best to complete this class without it, I'd rather gain some knowledge on my own instead of that

"If a gentleman comes into marriage choosing his partner solely on such superficial qualities, and he is not taking into account whether or not there is indeed deepest affection, the marriage is bound to fail."

I would LOVE to visit Incan, Mapuche, Muisca, Aymara, Quechua and other Central & South American indigenous areas! I first learned about Incans as a schoolchild and it’s been a love of mine since then but it is too expensive to travel from where I live in Northern Europe 😩
I’m 25% Mapuche and honestly I’m still even learning more about it because for so long to be indigenous was shameful and you didn’t openly share or discuss it, at least in my extended family. The Museum of the American Indian at the Smithsonian is a great resource for learning more, if you are not able to get to South America. There is also a similar museum in NYC that is a sister museum, but the one in DC is more in depth.
Just this morning my mom pulled some superstitious stuff and in the past I would roll my eyes inside but now I approach it as cultural traditions she was raised with and are a part of her mother’s Mapuche heritage. I’m trying to understand more rather than being dismissive.
Happy learning to both of us!

quotes by Victorians about the 1920s view of their generation's women
"We are frequently told that the Victorian woman...generally behaved like a pampered and neurotic infant. This is all moonshine. I do not think that I ever saw a woman faint before I came to London in 1869, and not often after then...they enjoyed a hearty laugh, and a good many of them a contest of wits with any man." -Nineteenth Century, a Monthly Review, 1927 (written by a man born in 1850)
"What queer ideas the girl of 1929 has about the Victorian period- they are not a bit true...Marriage was by no means the end and aim of our existence. Oxford and Cambridge claimed quite a few of us after school days were over. We had great ideas about 'life' and what it all might mean to us." -St. Petersburg Times, 1929 (written by a woman born in 1853)
"True, debutantes were chaperoned at balls. But that fact did not prevent them from dancing as frequently as they chose with their favorite partners. The idea that girls in the Victorian era spent their days sewing seams and practicing scales is another fallacy." -Gettysburg Times, July 1, 1927 (quote from the Dowager Lady Raglan, Ethel Jemima Somerset, who lived from 1857 to 1940)

Valerie's strain of sanity was this, this close to SNAP it. She was at the end of her rope here and it showed. Well, it would show if she took off her mask, letting lose her limp hair and revealing her dark eyebags but she couldn't because she was fighting what-was-his-name, oh right, Skulker.
Skulker, who was demanding to know what had the ghost hunters done with Phantom.
After Phantom's sudden disappearance, it had felt like a blessing. One less ghost scum, the better right? Wrong. She would rather die than admit it but she had underestimated the amount of ghosts Phantom took care of on the daily basic.
The Fenton parents and GIW were no match to those of greater powers, such as Vortex and Undergrowth and she was certain by now they looked no different from her.
Wary. Exhausted. Defeated.
Amity Parkers or at least, the adult ones, hypocritic as they were, had gone from disparaging and objecting to pleading for Phantom's return. Even the ghosts were wondering where was their mysterious ghost boy.
Mayor Masters was also under dark clouds after receiving the citizen's complaints and having to deal with the damages that ranged up to millions of dollars.
At this point, everyone was begging for Phantom to come back from wherever he was.
"Guys!" a voice shouted and she turned, only to see Sidney Poindexter, floating besides them and waving a glowing paper, "It's from Phantom's!"
Just like that, seemingly every human and ghost came out of the bush to know what was the latest news. It didn't get better:
Dear ghosts and Amity Park I guess,
This is from Phantom. I regret, well, not really, to say that having been married into another ghost belongs to another city, I won't be returning to Amity Park anytime soon.
Thankfully never have to deal with you guys anymore,
YOLO,
Phantom
What the fuck.
Or: when a ghost (or half-ghost) marries to a ghost in another city, they basically forfeit their rights to their old home and any businesses going on in their old home is none of their businesses.
In another news, Danny Fenton had been going on romantic rendezvous with a Jason Todd in Gotham City.
