Listen. I know there’s 2 more books. But this is stressing me out. It’s the ultimate act of self restraint, not finishing it right this very second

Winx Club Reboot Ideas Pt.2
Season 2 & 3 Ideas
Season 2:
Stella is still trying to get better with her own magic without the help if her staff/ring.
Helia becomes a student at Alfea, since he didn’t feel like being a specialist suited him.
Tecna and Timmy do get closer, he begins to help her try to get better at her and the winx’s fighting. It takes a long time though, Tecna keeps insisting that she works alone and doesn’t need help, especially after her and her team failed to do convergence magic.
It isn’t until the camping trip fiasco in season 2 that Tecna finally opens up to Timmy after he nearly faced death. After that he helps her improve her craft, their still not together but they are getting there.
Flora earns her charmix by asking Helia out.
The more comfortable Xan is becoming with the Winx, the more he’s experimenting with his gender and even music. His regained love of music eventually leads to the girls going behind his back and signing him up as the entertainment for a school event,, resulting in the storyline of season 2 episode 15 (original), where Xan does a concert even without his dad’s permission and sings about his mother…oh yeah and Stormy’s in the mix somewhere.
Keeping Aisha’s story/character arc is the same because goddamn was that well done!
Xan and Aisha become CLOSE! Not romantically, their platonic soulmates as they put it.
Show more of Dark Bloom. The more stressed out, tired and even angry she starts becoming to find her true identity, the more potential Dark Bloom has to take over.
In the end, Octavia takes an interest in improving her skills, she begins to research and study different mechanics, devices and movements to be a better combatant.
Riven and Xan’s relationship is even more scattered than last season,
Xan and Riven come to the conclusion that they wouldn’t work as a couple with how messed up both of their lives have been, they need someone who can balance out their troubles. They may not be together, but both know that doesn’t mean they won’t be friends.
Tumblr media
Season 3:
Octavia begins to find an interest in weaponry and quickly decides to see how she can use her powers to the advantage of weapons.
Xan comes to realize and accept that he is genderfluid.
The whole reason why Diaspro has been so desperate to marry Sky is because she wants what’s best for her people, even though her parents have insisted it’s fine, she took it upon herself to remove herself form the picture and focus on her people.
Introduce Nabu the same way, with the girls getting hot chocolate in the rain, but instead of him STILL following Aisha in the rocket...park... garage...thing- have him enroll in Alfea not just to find out who Aisha is, but to get away from his family and do what he’s always wanted to do with his magic.
Aisha and Nabu actually don’t become a couple (stalking is usually a turn  off for the norm), but they do form a strong friendship, and start to from their own little friend group with Xan and later on Riven.
This..Is where Xan and Nabu start to grow feelings for each other. And Aisha tries to help Xan ask him out, as Riven, while uncomfortable with genuinely communicating with others does try to help Nabu since he knows Xan deserves someone as sweet as Nabu.
The reason why Diaspro joins Valtor’s side is because offers to spare her people form his wrath if she joins his side, she even agrees to hypnotize Sky because she felt if he joined Valtor’s side then she could spare the people of Eraklyon as well.
Octavia dies her hair the iconic magenta OG Tecna has.
Helia earns his charmix through telling Flora that he loves her.
After they find/rescue Octavia thanks to Timmy’s determination, the two nerds finally start going out.
Mirta gains her charmix through finally trusting Lucy.
Have a more climatic finale, with Bloom going all out on Valtor only for her get so blinded by anger she doesn;t know if she actually killed him or if he just vanished.
Tumblr media
All in all, I want the fist three seasons do have differences, but still keep those elements that kept fan watching it, but don’t worry, the next seasons are gonna have the same level of care the first three seasons had...But they’re gonna be DIFFERENT.

God of Healing
AN: So this past week @how-masterful wasn't feeling well at points so I wanted to write some hurt/comfort for her to help her feel better as I always love to read sick fics when I'm not feeling well. Then the short drabble I had planned spiraled out of control and became a much larger fic.
Funny story, I have not yet watched Moon Knight.... Once again Masterful has gotten me addicted to characters from a show I have not seen. So they will all likely be out of character but I tried my best.
Word Count: 3153
Warnings: hurt/comfort, likely inaccurate depictions of DID, sick!reader, implied platonic (or romantic if you squint) relationship between Khonshu/Reader
Description: Marc and Steven return from a night as Moon Knight/Mr. Knight that didn't have their god hovering over their shoulder. They wonder what could have kept him from bothering them and find out once they return home.
"Bit odd ain't it?"
Marc didn't bother to answer Steven, it would only be a few moments before he would speak up again telling him exactly what was odd. Besides, asking him - no matter how curious Marc really was- would only encourage Steven to chip in with all sorts of observations all night. It would be a distraction. The giant bird that only he could see was already enough of a distraction every night. He didn’t need to be distracted in his own head too.
"All night we've fought, mate,” ah good, here was Steven proving Marc right once again. “Doling out his justice and all. Yet not a word from the bloody pigeon. Most nights he wouldn't leave us alone even if we begged him.... What do you think he's up to?"
"It's probably nothing. You worry too much Steven," Marc dismissed as he focused on quietly opening the flat's window.
You could be asleep and he didn't want to wake you. Why the hell was the window giving him so much trouble!  Of all things to trip up the protector of the travelers of the night- that’s a mouthful ain’t it- it had to be their own goddamn window.  Slowly dragging his hand down his face, Marc tried to release the tension that still held his body tightly wound. Tonight had been rougher than normal. He didn’t want to admit it but without Khonshu acting as an early warning system for ambushes the body had taken more of a beating than normal. Not that anything really hurt- the healing armor stopped that- but it did mean that Marc was emotionally and physically sore. He pointedly avoided looking into the window’s reflection. Steven could fuck off, he wasn’t in the mood to be teased tonight about how he should have listened to their girl. She had been begging them to take a night off for a month now.
He just. Couldn’t bring himself to take time for himself. Not when there were people to protect that deserved protection. He just knew that the moment he stopped moving he would break under your care. Oh, sure it would be healthy and good for him. But he had no idea if he would be able to recover in time to get back to protecting people like he needed to.
Marc forced himself to focus back on the task at hand. No point having a breakdown outside of their own flat when he could silently have it while tightly gripping onto you.
One of them should oil the window soon, it was starting to stick. Ironic really. Marc has assumed that windows would only stick if they were being left unused. Moon Knight or Mr.Knight went out almost every single night. So there was no reason for the window to be giving him any trouble.
The window finally opened enough for them to get inside. Honestly, Marc couldn’t believe that they had a flat with windows big enough for them to use as a way in and out of the flat. It was convenient though. Marc refused to have you leave the door unlocked while he was out, and carrying a key would just be inviting trouble. Without the window to distract him, Marc was left alone with his thoughts about what Steven had said...
One of the few times that Marc would have welcomed Steven’s rambling to distract himself was  of course the one time he decided to be quiet. Even though he didn’t want to admit it to Steven, he had also been a little worried about the startling absence of Khonshu. But, well it probably wasn’t anything. Steven was just being paranoid... Khonshu would end up telling the two of them if it ended up being important.
Slipping into the flat, Marc stayed light on his feet. You could be a light sleeper when you had just fallen asleep. No point stomping around and waking you before he could join you wherever you were.
"Where's our girl, Marc? She's probably still half awake, it’s cute how she always waits up for us. We need to make sure she gets some sleep though. Her poor eyes have started to get bags under them as bad as ours! Course, she would probably say she needs to stay up to make sure we get some sleep."
"Shut up Steven, I'm sure she's sleeping like a baby," he whispered back as he made sure the window was secure.
Flicking a glance across the room their eyes instantly found you in bed by glancing to see your hair spread out against the sheets. Taking less than a moment to see you were there before starting his nightly ritual. He would join you soon enough so all that mattered was that you were in bed.
It was good that you hadn't waited up for him. Well, that's what he tried to convince himself but he could feel deep inside of him some minor disappointment that you hadn't tried to stay awake to welcome him home. Shoving the feeling down guiltily, he let the suit dissolve. Vanishing around him. Ever so thankful that under the suit he wore the sweatpants and t-shirt he would be wearing to bed he walked away from you. A quick restroom stop to brush his teeth and he would be pulling you into his arms.
Marc instinctively kicked the door shut as he flicked the light on. At the very last moment, Steven took over for just a second to stop the door from slamming with their hand.
Ah, shit! That hurt! Shaking out the pain in their hand Marc scowled at the mirror.
“Leaving the pain for me, gee thanks Steven.”
“Well it could have been avoided if you didn’t try and slam the door like a right bastard.”
Leaving the mirror cabinet open just to annoy Steven as he grabbed a toothbrush, Marc began to aggressively brush his teeth. The sooner this was done the sooner he could get some sleep. God he just needed to hold you close and breathe in your scent.
"Marc, Marc!” Steven was being an annoyance again, yelling for his attention. “Bloody hell, and you claim you're normally the more observant of the two of us! She was right, you do need more sleep."
Throwing the mirror back into place so that he could see Steven in the reflection Marc hissed in irritation at the constant badgering, "What the hell is it now Steven!"
Mentally he apologized for the angry hiss he had made at Steven. He didn't deserve that.
"Surprised you haven't noticed the dozens of medications on the sink yet, mate. I think she might be asleep in bed for once cause she's sick or somethin’..."
Toothbrush still in his mouth Marc took stock of the about 20 pill bottles across the sink and bathroom. Huh. How did he miss all of those? It was a mess in here! Sure with all of Steven’s books spread all over the place the flat was always a general mess but normally the bathroom was more tame. Steven did have a few books in the bathroom, too however. More trashy novels that didn't matter if they got wet. Heaven forbid one of his precious tomes got even a drop of rain on them.
Rushing through the rest of the body's before bed routine, Marc was buzzing with nervous energy. He needed to check on you, to stay close and keep watch over you. Nothing was allowed to harm you, not even your own body. Speculating if summoning the suit would help, Marc spat out the froth of toothpaste filling his mouth. Would the healing cape aid in ridding your sickness? You weren’t the avatar but the cape had still protected others from harm. Did being sick count as harm?
Marc skipped the skin care routine that you had made for them. The lack of protest from Steven proved that he was just as concerned about you as he was. Normally Steven would insist on doing at least part of the skin care routine that you have so lovingly made for them. But tonight neither of them wanted to waste a moment of time that could be spent making sure you were okay.
Skidding out of the bathroom, their eyes immediately jumped to lock onto you. To ensure you were still in bed, still breathing. Why hadn’t Marc given you even just one once over before starting his nightly routine? He surely would have noticed if you were sick if he had. If anything had happened to you and he had wasted time brushing his teeth Marc was ready to yank them out himself.
The body froze as Marc and Steven processed what they were seeing.
The fucking bird was holding you.
In. His. Arms.
Petting your hair gently with his other hand as you struggled to breath through your nose. Khonshu’s fucking beak hovering over your head in mock protection.
"Are you fucking stealing my girl, Khonshu! Get your hands off of her!"
Marc's yell echoed through the flat, echoing in the silence. Steven winced at how loud it was. The neighbors were sure to hear if he stayed that loud and then rumors could spread, and then it would become an even bigger mess than what it already was! How would they compete with a god even if it was just the bloody pidgeon? This was it, the end of your lovely relationship. The panic was in full control now.
Steven hadn’t even noticed that he had taken over the body. Marc’s anger and desire to punch the god in his face- skull, whatever- burning in his chest.
Oh, god. Marc's yelling has woken you up. You were stirring. What would you do when you woke up? Did you know that Khonshu was holding you as you slept? Or did you think in your sleep that it was his arms around you? Steven couldn’t decide which would be worse.
"I have no desire to steal this mortal from you Marc Spector."
Oh, well that was good. No need to compete with the god of the moon for you then. That was a minor relief. Wait-
"Oi! The way you said that implies that you would steal her from me but not Marc!"
Khonshu groaned the moment Steven spoke. Rude of him! And here he thought that the grumpy god had finally warmed up to him, began to accept him as another avatar.
“What are you doing then you big bird?” Now that he had been reassured that your relationship was safe, Steven felt confident enough to bully the god a little bit. “I can’t really think of a reason for you to be feeling up our girl when she’s unconscious. Can you Marc? Seems a bit inappropriate if you ask me.”
"Steven," you croaked out.
Oh, right. You had woken up. Maybe should prioritize that over annoying the bird. Gosh, your voice sounded all rough and scratchy. It has to be aching. You would definitely benefit from a nice, warm cup of tea. Maybe some soup. They should have something suitable in the flat to soothe your throat.
Lurching out of Khonshu’s grasp, you reached out for him. Oh, you were just lovely. Steven didn’t exactly want to get sick but he was determined to cuddle you. Just as he was stepping towards you to take you into his arms Khonshu flicked out his staff.
The crescent moon grabbing hold of you like a lasso and throwing you back into the god’s arms. The staff was dismissed as soon as it had been summoned. Khonshu keeping a tighter grip on your body as he forced you to rest back against his chest again.
“What the fuck does he think he is doing to them,” Marc screamed in his ear.
“You are to stay put, little priestess,” the rumbling growl of his stern voice was making you tremble. You had the most upset and sorrowful look on your face. Like you knew that you had done something wrong but hadn’t meant to. “Or I will make use of the bug’s restraints to keep you here.”
That threat was the last straw for keeping Marc from fronting. He would protect you no matter what it cost.
"If she wants to leave your grasp and come to me you better let go of her, Khonshu," Marc threatened.
Inside Steven was panicking about how they could possibly get you safely away from the god. You had wanted to come to them and he had stopped you. You weren’t safe and you were sick, this was officially the nightmare scenario. How could they protect you against a god without Khonshu’s suit, without his help? Oh god, they had never thought to come up with a plan for this. Even with Marc’s protective paranoia tendencies to plan for any danger that could threaten you he had never even considered their god turning against them!
"Hmm is that anyway to thank me, my avatar, for keeping her sickness diminished. Without my aid by now she would surely be in one of those inadequate human hospitals. If she had managed to survive long enough to call for such aid..."
"WhAt," Marc and Steven both stumbled over each other to speak. The word barely comprehensible with the vocal breaks as their accent rapidly changed.
Frozen they both mentally retreated to talk to the other. They needed to think this through, to not rush into assumptions. To consider all the facts they had and plan their next action if any were even needed.
Steven came to the conclusion first.
"Oh, bloody hell. Marc, he's the god of healing too. He's saved her life when we didn't even notice she was ill! This is why he left us alone all night, he’s been healing her. Oh bollocks, we’re bloody awful boyfriends aren’t we..."
“Do you need to be holding her to heal her?”
Marc was still a bit on edge, but now he could admit his curiosity.
“Yes. She is not my avatar, close contact is the best way to eradicate her sickness. I cannot have my most devout worshiper fall to illness due to her refusal to pray for her own health.”
“Devout worshiper? But she doesn’t even pray...” Steven mumbled.
“She has called upon me to protect you enough times to be considered a priestess of my temple.”
Marc could feel his chest aching. A tightness making him want nothing more than to assure you that he would keep himself and Steven safe. Just for your sake.
Sniffling you managed to get out a few words. “I want our Marc and my Steven, Khonshu.”
There were tears on your cheeks. You had been crying silently while they bickered over meaningless things...
“Your Steven,” the god teased. “I do believe that they are both my Moon Knight, little priestess.”
Khonshu was... oddly affectionate with you. And far nicer to you than he was Marc or Steven. Well, not that he could blame the god for growing fond of you. Even Marc could admit it was impossible to avoid the desire to please you, to protect you. He had tried to keep Steven and himself away from you for so long to no avail. You drew them in to orbit you, as the moon does the Earth.
“You’re too mean to Steven so he’s all mine,” you muttered in a sleepy haze. “M’ gonna take Marc from you too if you don’t start being nicer to him so you better watch out.”
Marc chuckled at your empty threat.
“Hmm, then I shall have to keep a close eye on you, little one. I cannot have a priestess of mine stealing from me, after all. Perhaps I shall give the tireless task of keeping you out of mischief to my Moon Knight.”
Slowly making his way to the bed, both boys realized the issue at the same time. They wanted-no needed to hold you. But to do that while Khonshu was healing you would force them to lay practically in the god’s lap.
The moment they were in reach you extended your hands out with the most adorable grabby motions. Silently begging them to cuddle you close.
Steven gave in first while Marc was still debating how to hold you without touching Khonshu.
“Steven, no. Please, just- no.”
“Mate, if there was a way to do this that wasn’t bloody ridiculous I am more than willing to move. But I am not about to risk that sad little face she likes to give us to get her way while we debate on how to avoid touching the almost 2 meter tall vulture that needs to be touching her.”
Admitting defeat Marc let Steven shuffle the body closer to yours. Keeping as much skin contact as possible with you while maintaining as little contact between them and Khonshu. Marc mentally sighed when you purposely sniffled to show that you knew it was just Steven who had moved the body to lay against yours. He pressed a kiss to your forehead to indulge you. The happy little squirm against him was worth any embarrassment that the situation gave them.
Laying in silence as he rubbed circles against your skin until you fell back asleep. Trying his damn hardest to ignore the giant mummified bird in the room.
"Well this is awkward, innit?"
"Steven please," Marc begged. "I'm trying very hard not to think about how while cuddling our sick girlfriend we basically have to cuddle Khonshu too!"
"Bit too late for that now..." he trailed off with a nervous laugh.
Marc purposely avoided looking at Khonshu. Or any mirrors. Finally settling his wandering eyes on your peaceful face. He could suffer the discomfort of being pressed slightly against Khonshu’s body, for you.
“We never talk about this. Ever.”
“Agreed,” Khonshu was quick to answer. Seems the god found this as unsettling as he did.
If it wouldn’t involve bringing this situation up, Marc would pester the god about how he seemed to have no awkward feelings about cuddling his girlfriend. But he just knew that Khonshu would get his revenge by distracting him during his time as Moon Knight by mentioning that he was also the god of fertility. Steven was already going to be enough of a mess worrying over being Khonshu’s avatar and you apparently being considered a priestess by the god making the both of you more fertile, now that the idea was there...
Silently they both agreed to push the thought from their minds for now. They could freak out together later.
At least you were soundly sleeping. And your nose was less stuffy, so Khonshu’s healing was helping. With any luck- which god were they due for some good luck- you would be better by tomorrow and this bizarre cuddle pile wouldn’t be needed again.

I wonder if Steve learned more about Nancy after season one, otherwise he’s just filling in the blanks of her personality himself. Because if he didn’t know her...(I mean, in season one he says she’s in band and she’s not, the only thing he really acknowledged was she was smart and beautiful) it just makes season four all the more sad.
It would mean the Nancy he’s in love with doesn’t exist, and the Nancy that does exist, doesn’t want him.
I’m not a Stancy fan by any means, but like, if the Duffers wanted to resurrect the love triangle so goddamned bad (which to me never really existed anyway--it’s not like Jonathan and Steve were competing for her affection), they could at least have made it make sense. Because it doesn’t. It comes out of nowhere. There were no bread crumbs or hints that Steve wanted Nancy back (I’m not counting the end of season two, they had just broken up). After season two, they don’t interact. At all.
In season four Nancy and Steve cared about each other, but it felt more platonic. Steve even suggests double-dating with him and Robin when Jonathan comes for a visit. It’s a friendly chat between them, but he keeps his distance (romantically). It’s only until Robin and Eddie start telling him he should get Nancy back does he start crossing the line. Robin and Eddie both misinterpret Nancy’s actions. Yes, she dove in after Steve when he got pulled under, but it wasn’t immediate. She did wait a few seconds and then dove in. But Nancy would do that for anyone. She would have bandaged anyone’s wounds. Because she cares about others. Even season one Steve knew that.
It felt very against Steve’s character when he steps over that line by confessing his dreams of the future to her. For some they think It was a little bit of a grey area when Steve and Nancy split and she got together with Jonathan, but even still you’d think Steve wouldn’t want to be that guy and break up someone’s relationship (even though that’s not what Jonathan did). Season two Steve was heartbroken for sure, but he was mature enough to realize Nancy wanted to be with someone else because she didn’t love him. Season three Steve was starting to move on. He fell hard for Robin and appeared to be ‘over’ Nancy.
It would be so different if Steve and Nancy were friends, but we’re given no evidence of it. Nancy is around Jonathan all the time. Why would she have feelings for Steve when during their whole relationship almost, she was wanting Jonathan? And we learn she only went back to Steve because Jonathan didn’t make a move. Why would Steve or Nancy want to go back to a relationship that was never all that great to begin with?
It seems like Steve really doesn’t know Nancy at all. A good indicator of that is back in season two, when Steve is discussing his future with her and she says nothing in response, because he just described the kind of life she wanted to avoid. This also means that Nancy doesn’t discuss what she wants in the future with Steve. She always seemed to go to Jonathan for the heavier/emotional topics.
Ultimately, the writers are telling and not actually showing anything between Steve and Nancy. If a writer has to tell their audience how to feel or think a certain way, it sucks the emotion right out of the story. Every interaction between Steve and Nancy felt kind of awkward, whereas with Nancy and Jonathan it felt natural and not forced. In season four Nancy had more chemistry with Robin than Steve lol
Eddie and Robin pushed Steve into thinking Nancy has feelings for him, but we know she doesn’t because when Jonathan shows up the world around her melts away. If she had feelings for Steve, that hug with Jonathan would not have been so enthusiastic.
Having Stancy back together isn’t just a terrible step back for Steve and Nancy’s arcs, but it doesn’t make any logical sense.
At least Jonathan knows her and we can tell how much they mean to each other without them outright telling the audience.

Reacting to BATDR, Part 1 and 2?
So as mentioned before, because I cannot play the game at launch, I’m watching SuperHorrorBro’s coverage to experience BATDR. I’ve watched through the first two videos he’s launched (linked under the cut), and oh my gosh, I’m already REALLY INVESTED! Normally I’m not one to blog about stuff like this, my reactions are pretty muted about most things, but while watching these videos, I was emotive and excited as hell, I swore more than I have since my last bad night of Splatoon 3, and that’s saying something! Usually my self control is better, but GOSH I squealed so hard.
And seeing as I don’t want to go into any of the spoiler channels in my designated Bendy servers, for the sake of not getting spoiled by people who are ahead of me in terms of the story, that leaves me with only a few options to get the feels out. I think, I’d like to react a little bit here and speculate. This is new territory for me, but it’s exciting! So as promised, we’re using our tools, we’re tagging things, and we’ll put a majority of this under the cut. Let’s dive in! (also do not spoil me for anything ahead of this content in the replies/comments, please and thank you!)
If you’d like to follow along with where I am in terms of story, here are the videos! Thank you Mike for all your hard work covering this game, you are an absolute gem and this is SO FUN!

So RIGHT OFF THE BAT, this game is gorgeous to look at! I was a little worried that it would lose some of the charm of looking like a sketch with the graphical upgrade, but I think this is still pretty good, both in the “real world” section and the “studio”. The introduction did a lot of things I didn’t expect, and I appreciate that so much.
I can’t believe we got to do a version of the ritual that Henry did to start the machine, and I’m kind of annoyed that I didn’t see that coming. Like it seems SO OBVIOUS, but at the same time, it just was not on my radar. But like, why did Audrey have to throw the switch and gather the items? What is it just because you’re old and decrepit Wilson? Is it just because we need to get used to the mechanics in a safe environment, or is there a narrative reason for it? Also, the fact that the ink just, FLOODED THE FLOOR?! And they got pulled under?? Or did Wilson grab her and drag her under? I feel like he kind of ragdolled and they got pulled, but I'm not sure, we'll have to go back and rewatch. That is NOT how I expected us to get pulled into the ink realm, but I love that a lot actually. It's so good!
Wilson, gosh, I have SO MANY FEELINGS about Wilson. Sir you are a creeper, and if I were Audrey, I would be contacting HR about you. We get it, Audrey’s gorgeous, but keep your goddamn eye to yourself bro. X’‘‘D I did not see that coming, I dunno if he’s like, interested in Audrey in the sense of romantic/sexual attraction, or if he knows something about her in this world that we don’t and that’s why he’s fixated on her. Like, I’m hoping it’s the second of the two, but I do get the sense it could be a little bit of both. That does seem to point to a more "chosen one" styled story with her, which I feel like ties into her being related to Joey or Henry, which is something I'm not sure if I want. Like I LOVE next generation stories, but I really want this to feel like Audrey's story, not just an extension of Joey's or Henry's, you know? If nothing else, I'm REALLY CURIOUS what Wilson meant by "we're going home". Sir, excuse you, what?! What does that even mean?!
Speaking of, LOVING Audrey as a protagonist. She leaves plenty of room for the player to react to scares, but she still has a lot of personality that I like. I LIKE that she's scared but still pushing through with a little sass and witty remarks, it's great. She's doing a great job. Don't get me wrong, I loved Henry, but there was a lot he didn't react to that always struck me as kind of odd (which makes sense once you know he might be trapped in a loop), like the only thing we hear him get emotional about is Boris, and I wanted more moments like that. We're getting that here.
Heck , we're getting a LOT of things I value and we're not even an hour and a half into the gameplay, that's wild! THANK YOU dev team for giving us the option to listen to audio logs in the pause menu with a transcript on screen, that is SO GOOD! I do miss the on screen text during gameplay, but this is honestly more efficient. You can take a moment to take it all in instead of worrying about enemies catching you off guard, so you don't lose important information (and given we actually get some, that's good. The voice direction in this game is so good. I knew it would be, you've got Lauren Synger who knows what she's doing as the voice director, and Lani Minella who's not only well connected, but also well versed in many different kinds of voice work, so she's a great pick for casting director, and the people they got are phenomenal. The deliveries are solid! I also love that we can hear some voices of the Lost Ones matching up with the audio logs so far, that's a GREAT touch. I'm loving Dale a lot, Dale is good. It leaves less room for interpretations about what happened to everyone, but I'm okay with that. Can't wait to read the credits to see who's responsible for each of them! Really excited that we got to hear Nathan, and that we might have been wrong about him from the books, though I’m gonna wait and see. He seems like a fairly earnest guy, I get the sense I need to read through his annotations in The Illusion of Living again.
Also, LOVE the addition of notes. We FINALLY GOT IT! We have heard Jack refer to Sammy so much in his audio logs, but never Sammy refer to Jack, and as a huge appreciator of them as musical partners (and occasionally as a ship) I was ECSTATIC to see him acknowledge him in writing. I'm also really curious about who "Your Best Pal" is. Mike speculates it's Henry, but I'd argue it could be Henry OR Joey, given Joey ALSO signs things that way (case in point, his letter inviting Henry back at the start of BATIM). It's more likely to be Henry, but it could be fun to do that with Joey too, especially since we have it confirmed that he's dead as of 1971, and we're currently in 1973.
In the same vein as before with previous employees, LOVE the studio tour audio from Joey, oh my gosh, I wish we had some subtitles or a transcript of those! That was a really good addition in terms of presentation. Also really loved hearing him say Sammy and Jack’s names, that was a GREAT moment. Feeling really awful for Carl though, gosh I kind of want to run into Carl even though that was extremely morbid. Here’s where my gripe comes in: how the actual hell did Joey not get charged with murder?! The blip in the tape puts Allison’s name over Susie’s, which tells us that this tour could have been happening in the 30s, but had an edit sometimes in the 40s when Allison took over the role of Alice. And given we ALSO have another details from these other employees about how dangerous it was with Gent coming in and pipes bursting, how did this tour keep running? Surely the newspaper HAD to have reported on a tour group getting hospitalized or disappearing, right? No? No we’re just gonna cover the bankruptcy in the late 40s? Okay, okay fine, have it your way. X’‘‘D How the hell did Joey Drew get away with anything? Like the tour stuff is cool, but if we don’t get an explanation for how Joey kept all this ink stuff from getting into the public (seeing as Wilson seems to be the only one that understands what the machine can do when Nathan acquires the brand?! Excuse me what?!), I’m calling this a massive oversight.
Moving onto more physical character stuff, can I just say, I LOVE that Striker comes down from the ceiling now?! Oh my gosh that is so GOOD! Very spidery. I would have hated that in BATIM given the controls just did not feel great for combat, but I hope this isn’t giving Mike too many issues, because it’s a great touch. Also PIPER CAN HURT YOU THROUGH THE MIRACLE STATION?! I’m sorry what?! Also Allison is acknowledging Piper by name?! That’s such a small thing, but like, we only knew what the enemies were called last game because people dug through the game files. We never had this enemy referred to as Piper or Charley, and it is SO NICE to have that. Same with Searchers, thank you Allison for talking about Searchers. I didn’t think I’d be so happy to see Allison, but I’m REALLY HAPPY to see her, she’s been done so much justice in terms of characterization, it’s great to see. Last game she didn’t give us a lot in terms of character development, and the difference within the first two encounters with her here are night and day. My one thing is that her reason for not coming with us feels a little weak, but I get it, for the sake of gameplay and programming the AI, this makes more sense. Girl, you don’t have to take us to your hideout, unless like, the entire upper level is your hideout, but I doubt it is since you wouldn’t be telling us to go there if we shouldn’t be there period. But the nice part is that she’s exploring again when she’s not supposed to, or at least, that seems likely. She’s trying to respect Tom’s boundaries about guests while also going out on her own and getting into trouble, it’s a mixed bag, very interesting. But just, “I’ve got a wolf”, MAN I wanna see Tom! One thing I’m unclear on though, we hear Alice’s humming right around the time we have a run-in with the Piper, and I just, I’m lost. I thought that noise was exclusive to Twisted Alice, so for a moment I thought she was gonna pop up, and then we got Allison. Do they both hum now? That’s interesting. And now we get to the part everyone’s been waiting for: Baby Benders. Okay first of all, I love that Audrey is so smitten with this guy when they first meet. Like she’s scared of everyone else, but the minute she sees this beloved cartoon character and he’s real and alive and adorable, she tries to befriend him, and it’s SO GOOD. I also LOVE the way his facial expressions are handled! That is beautifully animated. He’s SO EMOTIVE?! I was worried he was gonna have the smile plastered on the whole time, but the TEARS IN HIS EYES?! The MOUTH?! BENDY I’M SO SORRY OH YOU POOR BABY! He was so hesitant, and then he opened up and got burned, oh this CHILD! He was just playing with his train, my GOSH! Audrey ya gotta use the other hand next time. So this makes it seem like Bendy isn’t an AI that follows us around, I’m guessing he’ll function more like an NPC that we go and connect with for help if needed? I’m okay with that, that’s a vibe, probably better for less glitches and getting stuck on stuff because of collision detection, since there’s a lot more stuff for a model like his to get stuck on (I’m guessing of course, I don’t do game design). I’m okay with us not having an AI ally this time, though I AM curious about how Porter is gonna work, he still has an opportunity to be something like that or an NPC with quests for us.
THAT BEING SAID- this is where we get into where my theories are being proven wrong. I had speculated a little on Nathan wanting the machine specifically, and preserving Joey’s legacy was just a cover-up, but now I’m not so sure about that. But my bigger theory looks to be pretty close to disproven. So on my theory stream last week, I had speculated that Porter was gonna be the Lost One we saw hung up on the wall like a crucifix, the one we get the pipe from. It seemed like an ideal jumpscare opportunity, for that Lost One to come to life after we pulled the pipe out and spook us with an enthusiastic thank you, and then Audrey would get her special ability that way. But that’s not what happened, it was more like taking the wrench out of Boris’ corpse in the first game. The reason I suspected this lost one might be Porter was because of the feet and the rope. Looking to the feet after someone pointed out how weird they were, I noticed several parts of his model has small indents that looked like the spots where this lost one was impaled. Furthermore, if you look at the rope around Porter, it conveniently covers up the spot where the pipe was sticking out of the wall lost one, leading me to believe it could be concealing an injury. Now, if we say, go back to that area later and he’s not there, or Porter drops some info for us later, then I could still be correct, but I’m not holding my breath. But given we see the ink itself give Audrey the power to banish searchers, I’m led to believe that Porter might function in a similar vein but not the same one. Since we have an upgrade system for health and stamina, and possibly one for the pipe, I get the sense Porter is gonna be key to upgrading our golden abilities so we can do more than just banishment. But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Last thing: We had our first run in with the ink demon, and OH MAN that was good, but also, um, LOTS OF QUESTIONS?! One, bro how come YOU get subtitles denoting that you’re the ink demon speaking but Joey doesn’t?! Were Joey’s subtitle privileges just revoked or something? But also, MAN, he has a VOICE now?! And it’s DEEP?! Sir you sound like Venom, I kind of dig that, but I wonder WHY you can speak now. Wilson’s loudspeaker monologue tells us he “tore his body in two,” which, to me leaves a lot of questions. We’ve speculated that our little cartoon Bendy and the Ink Demon could be one and the same, but I also suspect they could be two halves of a whole. Half of me suspected that Wilson might have fused himself with the ink demon so he could be powerful and rule over this place, and I get the sense that could happen still, but I’m feeling it’s less likely. So far I’m leaning towards the two demons being two pieces of a whole, maybe not halves though, maybe more like quarters? I speculated that Joey, Henry, or both might have been used to make our little guy real, and I still think it’s possible, though Bendy’s behavior doesn’t read like either of them from what I’ve seen so far. Man, this is a really twisty thing, I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. But this is an ink demon that makes sense for Sammy to worship. If THIS is what Sammy heard this whole time, combined with the dark puddles that gave us the banish ability? Oh that adds a whole other layer of context.
Overall, I’m REALLY EXCITED by how this has gone so far. This seems like a game I would struggle to play, since there doesn’t seem to be a map and I am extremely directionally challenged. But overall? The narrative is alright. It hasn’t been super long, we’re only getting into the second chapter, so I don’t expect to see any major returning characters yet, but I do hope they show up soon. I’m especially eager to see if/how Sammy returns. Given we have a note and a couple of mentions of him, I’m hopeful. I need to know if I was right about something.

Gift Basket
I just finished my manga collection and was reading through volume 10 of Kiss Him Not Me. It’s a manga about a fujoshi otaku girl who loses a shit load of weight and then suddenly four guys fall in love with her. So in this chapter, she turned back to her old fat self and is being manipulated by this guy she was childhood friends with. The guy traps her as a cliff-hanger for the next volume and says “I’m the only one who likes you for who you are.”
Now I know, this is a manga. This isn’t real. It can be fan-fucking-tastical as it wants, and I don’t expect it to be 100% realistic… but it just makes me think about the manga as whole. The characters do grow to love her and accept her over the course of the story, but what starts their attraction (some of them, not all of them) is her appearance.
I feel like the reason I’ve been so invested in this manga over the series is because I kind of project myself on to the main character. She’s straight, but honestly she doesn’t seem interested in any of the romantic interests or sexually attracted to them. I’m not interested in guys, and I’m Ace, but I like imagining someone actually being interested in me romantically (not sexually). And even if they think they might not actually end up with her they still stick around for the chance and to still be her friend.
Since I was young, I never had that happen. I couldn’t even fathom it happening, because the moment I did I was met with extreme disappointment and bullying. I was the weird fat kid that thought she was a fucking witch and wore the same gross-ass jacket every day. I was the girl other girls would ask if I liked anyone, and if I said anyone or lied about anyone they’d bully them too. It happened so often it just became routine for me to deny even the possibility of someone being interested in me. I ask someone out after finally letting myself think someone reciprocated my feelings, I was crushed and humiliated. Even when I was out of high school it would fucking happen again, and again it would end in my misery. Again, and again, and again. Every single fucking time. I hate goddamn motherfucking people. Everyone just lives to see your goddamn misery. Everyone will piss on your fucking corpse because they have nothing goddamn better to do in their lives.
So you might be asking, why is this titled “Gift Basket” then?
A few weeks ago I put in my two weeks for my work because my family said I should get a better one even though I liked this one. I had gotten a Christmas present for everyone to be nice (or to be a little passive aggressive to the bitch of the workplace) and I have one to this cute cashier girl, thinking nothing of it. I just wanted to be nice and have it as like a goodbye to everyone I had gotten to know there and I didn’t expect or want anything in return. On my second-to-last day she came in (she wasn’t scheduled) and gave me a gift basket. It was so nice and I still thank her for it every time I see her. My mom picked me up and took me home that night when I could finally look through it. It was a Valentine’s Day basket with some candy, a plushie, and a card that had her phone number and socials in it. I just assumed she was being nice and grabbed a random bucket because it was around when our store was stocking Valentine’s Day stuff. Or at least that she wanted to be friends, because on the few times we talked we really clicked. My mom suggested that it could be a romantic thing but I immediately doubted it because well- I’m fat and ugly and just because it’s a bucket that says “Be Mine” on it doesn’t mean anything. I later asked her what she meant because I didn’t want to misinterpret her meaning and she said she meant to be friends (and kind of implied liking me would be gross.) We’ve hung out two times since then as friends and it’s been nice! I’m surprised I actually managed to make a friend.
I’m glad we’re friends, but thinking back on it now I’m just reminded of the dozens of times before it where it ended in misery. It felt weird after I asked her and she said no. Like for once, I didn’t care. Maybe it’s just because I wasn’t interested in her- though I feel like it was just because I knew there isn’t a single timeline or universe where something like that could happen to me. This isn’t a manga. I didn’t lose weight over night and now I’m some mega babe. I don’t have some cute personality or quirk that makes me acceptable to most people. I am at best a background character. I don’t really want to be a “main character” like those dickheads online that will fuck over everyone else for a picture or something, but most people should feel like they’re a main character controlling their story right? Most people feel like they’re actually story-worthy right?

The hilarious part about Faith and how incredibly gay she comes across is that it's all a natural side-effect of her intended narrative role. According to Whedon she wasn't intentionally written to be a queer or even queer-coded character, but the way she is written and her metaphorical function necessarily meant she came across as queer-coded. I'll explain what I mean:
1) As Buffy's shadow, Faith is meant to be symbolic of Buffy's repressed desires, and specifically her frustrated sexuality. Buffy is dealing with imposed chastity throughout S3, first with her trauma over Angel getting in the way of a relationship with Scott, and then the curse preventing her from being physical with Angel. It's the centre point of Enemies, its touched on in Amends, and is one of the reasons they break up. There's a reason the season climaxes with Angel and Buffy in a passionate embrace, making orgasm faces as he 'penetrates' her. It's a whole season of sexual frustration for Buffy.
Faith needs to be constantly reminding Buffy of the thing she can't have - sex. She needs to talk about sex to Buffy - and she does, extensively. Faith is written as a very sexual person in general, but it's specifically and disproportionately aimed towards Buffy, because that's her narrative role. So you end up with this character who is constantly going around like "hey Buffy do you like sex? you should think about sex now. sex. when I'm on screen the main thing on your mind should be sex and having it". Which begs the question - why does Faith want Buffy to have sex? Symbolically, it's because she represents part of Buffy, and Buffy wants to have sex. But on a pure character level... what is the explanation? What is motivating Faith to constantly talk about sex to Buffy? A few instances you can write off as her making Buffy uncomfortable for jokes, but not all of them. How it comes across is that Faith has some sexual interest in Buffy, and is probing for her feelings.
2) Faith is a Seductress. That's not a comment about her character, that's her function in the story. She is the version of Buffy who goes down a darker path, and is trying to seduce her into doing the same thing. Part of Buffy's arc in S3 is resisting this temptation, and the symbol of what she is resisting is Faith. So Faith must be an enticing, seductive figure. To quote Passion of the Nerd's review, if Faith is there to to tempt Buffy into a moral dark side, it only makes sense that she is, well, tempting. The seduction is happening on many levels.
Faith is more or less filling the Femme Fatale archetype: the seductive, sexual figure who leads the Hero off their path. It's a trope you see all the time in male-led stories, going back to goddamn The Odyssey. Buffy as a character was invented as a simple gender-swap of an old horror trope, and part of the appeal of the show is that she gets to fill the role of The Hero as a woman. So what happens when you gender-swap The Hero and don't gender-swap the Femme Fatale? You get a gay story, that's what.
3) The Faith arc of S3 is a recreation of the Angel arc of S2. It is structured in the exact same way, with the two having a push-and-pull in the early parts of the season, a setback in their relationship in episode 7, getting closest again mid-season before a night of passion that ends in sudden tragedy. Angel/Faith then turn to the dark side, become the Big Bad, and show that they are beyond saving in episode 17. The season ends with Buffy having to fight and the kill them in order to save others. This is all an intentional recycling, as part of the show building up the Trolley Problem and the idea of Buffy being a killer, repeatedly escalating it to get us to The Gift. What this means is that Faith steps into the role that Buffy's love interest played in the previous season. This is the story that we have just had told to us as a tragic love story. We see it again, and guess what? It's still a tragic love story. Only now Faith is in the role of the love interest.
4) Part of the conflict surrounding Buffy and Faith is Buffy's fear of being "Single White Female'd". She fears Faith might steal her loved ones, and Faith does threaten that. She gets along with her mother, her friends... but most of all, her love interests. Buffy's fear of being replaced manifests as Faith trying to literally seduce away anyone romantically linked to Buffy. Angel, Scott Hope, Xander, later Riley, Spike, Robin Wood... Faith is comprehensively and exclusively attracted to men that Buffy dated. I'm honestly surprised she didn't find Owen and Parker from somewhere for a night in the sack. Again, this makes perfect heterosexual sense from a symbolic point it view - she threatens to take Buffy's place in the narrative, so she takes her place in relationships - but on a character level it becomes ambiguous. Is she actively trying to replace Buffy? Or is she trying to stop Buffy dating anyone for another reason? The simple fact is, there is exactly one common denominator with all of Faith's romantic entanglements: Buffy.
It's a canonical aspect of Faith's character that she is jealous of Buffy. We see that made explicit in Enemies - she's jealous of everything Buffy has: her family, her comfortable home life, her friends, her narrative standing, and of course her loving partners. So of course Faith displays jealousy whenever Buffy is involved with a guy. It's a necessary part of building Faith as this figure of Want and Envy. But how it plays out on screen isn't that Faith is jealous of Buffy because she wants these other guys - of course not, because we see her look jealously through the window at Buffy and Riley in This Year's Girl and Riley obviously means nothing to her. Rather, it very much appears that she is jealous of these other guys, because she wants Buffy.
There's also the added bonuses that come from the show playing with so many metaphors, that sometimes they cross in interesting ways. One of Faith's main purposes is to celebrate being a Slayer, and to encourage the same in Buffy. She wants Buffy to accept and embrace being a Slayer. Here, Slayerhood is standing in for independence and hedonism and making your own rules, all the things that Faith is encouraging. But one of the many other metaphors used is the 'coming out' metaphor. "Have your tried not being a slayer?" "It's because you didn't have a strong father figure isn't it." "I've tried to march in the Slayer Pride parade." It's a note that's hit really hard specifically around the time in the show that Faith is introduced. So if you carry this metaphor on, then Faith becomes an out-and-proud lesbianSlayer, trying to convince Buffy to accept and embrace her sexuality.
And it has a recursive effect too. All this stuff contributes towards Faith feeling like a very queer character. And Faith, of course, is Buffy's shadow self, meant to represent her unconscious desires. So when the symbol of your unconscious desires is so lesbian-coded, then the implication becomes that one of your unconscious desires is lesbian desire. Faith's existence as a part of Buffy implies the existence of Buffy's bisexuality. Which contributes to the relationship feeling ever more queer, which makes Faith even gayer.
I find this absolutely hilarious, because the queer subtext was never intended. Joss Whedon apparently was annoyed that people read this into their relationship, and the commentary from the other writers that does address it tends to point to Dushku's performance. And yeah, she is definitely leaning into that in her portrayal. But the main reasons that so many people have this reading all come from the writing. It's all stuff that is integral to the point of her character. Every metaphor and function in the narrative, every symbolic purpose she has, none of it was meant to be gay and yet it all leads directly to Faith appearing to be totally and completely gay. The queerness is accidental and unavoidable. And I just find that really fucking funny.

Something’s wrong.
Jungkook knows every nook and corner of this house, knows how it’s organized, knows every single crack, knows the exact location of where everything is.
So why can’t he find the damn scissors?
“Eomma!” He calls out as he scurries around the kitchen scavenging for a pair of scissors. He tries the drawers, the cupboards, even the refrigerator, but no criss-crossed cutter comes to sight. Not a single pair.
He could’ve sworn he used one just a few days ago. Weird.
“Eomma!” He tries again as he moves his scavenger hunting to the living room. He’s in the midst of turning over the couch cushions when he hears his mother’s laugh ringing through the stairs.
“Yes, dear, and make sure to get the measurements right, okay?” Mrs. Jeon says excitedly to her phone as she enters the living room area. Jungkook halts his scissor hunting for a split second to look up and spot your pixelated face on his mom’s phone screen. “And add only a bit of salt. It balances out the sweetness.”
“Thanks, Mrs. Jeon,” he hears you reply appreciatively through the video call.
Mrs. Jeon scoffs and waves her free hand dismissively as she draws nearer to her son’s spot by the couch. “What do I keep telling you, dear? Mrs. Jeon is my mother-in-law. Call me Eomma.”
Jungkook rolls his eyes. After all, his mother never beats around the bush.
Sure, it may seem like a harmless comment coming from a close friend’s mom. But he knows his mother, knows that she’s as competitive as he is if not more, knows she’s already fantasizing about his own marriage, knows she has her eyes set on you as the bride.
(Actually, you have seven pairs of eyes trained on you as a bride.)
“That’s funny.” You giggle. “Mrs. Park told me to call her that, too. What a coincidence!”
Jungkook tenses. After all, he did say his mother was competitive.
“Well, that old lady didn’t just give you her signature homemade cookie recipe now, did she?” Mrs. Jeon says, eyes twitching. She needs to have a word or two with good ol’ Mrs. Park.
“Nope,” you reply, completely oblivious to the competitive fire in Mrs. Jeon’s eyes. “Thanks again, Mrs. Jeo— I mean, Eomma,” you backtrack with a giggle. “You’re a lifesaver!”
“Oh, hush,” she waves you off with a dazzling smile. “My cookies are to die for.” She then angles the phone to show Jungkook, who’s still busy feeling around the couch for the goddamn scissors. “Speaking of cookies, sweetie, here’s my best one yet.”
“Oh,” you exclaim, “hey, Kookie!”
She winks at her son while hidden from the camera, but he only gags at her in response before replying to you with a distracted, “hey.”
“Woah,” you say and he sees the worry etched on your pixelated face. “You okay? You gonna puke or something?”
“Nah, I’m just looking for some damn scissors.”
“Why?”
“‘Cause my hair’s getting too long.”
“Oh, that’s too bad.” You pout. “I think you look good with long hair…”
He scoffs at your dreamy sigh. Of course, you would think that. After all, you cried for a full week when you first watched Harry Styles chop off his curly locks in a documentary.
“Anyways,” you say after a moment, “good luck with that. I gotta go, bye!”
“Bye,” he mumbles, still preoccupied with his missing treasure as his mom says her own goodbyes to you before hanging up.
He tries asking again after he finally has her attention. “Eomma, have you seen where the scissors are?”
Silence.
He looks up. “Eomma?”
“You don’t need them,” she blurts out, scratching the back of her head, feigning nonchalance.
He blinks.
“Who needs scissors, anyway? Useless inventions, scissors…” she continues, shifting her weight from one foot to the other.
Jungkook sighs. “Alright, what did you do?”
“Nothing!” Mrs. Jeon holds her hands up defensively.
“Eomma.”
“Nothing, really! It’s just that… I just hid them all in a drawer and—”
“Why would you do that?” Her son asks as he pinches the bridge of his nose, already having an inkling of where this is going, while she just whistles in faux innocence.
“I just thought… Well, you heard Y/N, didn’t you? Oh, Kookie, you look so dashing with long hair! Trust me, this is the best way to win her over.”
She wrings her hands when he says nothing in response, opting instead to give her a meaningful look, hoping she’ll get the point..
“Kookie,” His mom pleads. “You don’t want Y/N to be upset, do you?”
It’s Jungkook who ends up upset, flopping face-first on the couch in defeat.

How NOT to write romance - How I Met Your Mother edition
Warning: long-ass post and lots of bitterness over a TV show that ended nearly eight years ago.
Basics for story-telling
If the romance you want to write is dysfunctional, fucking embrace it and have fun with the concept instead of pretending the bad shit the characters do is okay because “it’s true love”
Acknowledgde that your main character has flaws instead of acting like he is a saint who can do no wrong for no reason other than “he is the main character. Definitively don’t make him do, of his own free will, the exact exact same things the supposedly “selfish and cruel” womanizer does and then excuse it as him having “succumbed to/been tricked by a bad influece” like he’s child who doesn’t know any better instead of being a grown ass adult.
Don’t make your characters be annoying, entitled fuckers who think they have the right to judge others for wanting different things out of a relationship/not wanting a relationship at all. Don’t act like monogamy, double dates with other couples, marriage and children are something EVERYONE secretly wants deep down.
Don’t demonize the “evil” character of the group and act like the “heroes” being appalled by the shit he does is anything other than hypocricy. There’s literally nothing forcing them to be friends with him, so they’re obviously not as horrified at bad shit he does as they say they are, otherwise they would have ditched him a long time ago.
Don’t have the “heartless womanizer”,  who we later find out is the ex-husband of the girl the lead wanted for himself, be shown to us exclusively through the eyes of the an unreliable narrator who had motivation to make him see worse than he is likely to be (get his kids to want him to get the girl instead of the “douchebag”). Also, don’t make his schemes to trick women into sleeping with them so completely absurd and ridiculous that the audience is pretty sure that 70% of the women he banged were completely aware he just wanted a quick fuck and went along with it anyway because they wanted some dick (and because the character is played by Neil Patric Harris, who is incapable of not being charismatic)
Fucking let you characters (especially the supposed hero we’re supposed to think is the best boyfriend ever) grow instead of making them constantly repeat the same mistakes
Lily and Marshall
Don’t make one of the characters hide something very important from their partner, and then have the audacity to be mad at them for “just not understanding” as if they were given any reason to understand what the problem even is
Don’t act like someone being heartbroken that their partner lied to them and practically made a plan to “escape” being married to them means they’re not being “supportive” of said partners dream - you should especially not do that after we were shown that they took a job they didn’t like just to make sure they’d have a secure future that would allow said partner to follow their dream.
Don’t have the character who was obviously in the wrong need to be convinced to get their shit together and apologize to their ex.
If a character forgave the ex who wronged them and even got back together with them, don’t have them constantly hold their past mistakes over their head like it that problem has not already been solved - you especially not make them do that on what was supposed to be their wedding day. They can either forgive their partner or not, they can’t keep going back and forth.
Don’t have them constantly hide important shit from each other (having a huge financial debt, getting a job, etc)
DO NOT have the character who fucked up years prior suddenly be willing to do the same shit again for the EXACT same reason (”I think our relationship is in the way of my dreams and I’m now completely isolated because I refuse to talk things out with you”) and then expect the audience to sympathize with them.
Ted and Robin
Unless you’re writing a Disney/Disney-esque romance, don’t have your lead just look at someone across the room, decide they’re “The one”, imagine their life together and full on say “I’m love with you” AND “I love you” on the first goddamn date.
Don’t have the lead stalk his love interest, and throw three parties in a row just to have an excuse to get close to her now that she made it clear she is not interested in having a relationship with him.
Don’t have the “hero” lie about having broken up with his girlfriend so the girl he wants to be with will sleep with him, and then have him blame his actions on time. “Nothing good happens after 2 a.m.” Grow a pair of balls, Ted!
If one of the characters says “You’re going too fast on the whole ‘love’ thing. Can’t we just go on a few dates and see what happens instead of already starting to plan our lives together?” and the others throws a fit, that is called “being incompatible” and “damn, this dude doesn’t respect boundaries”, not “Wow, she’s so afraid of commitment”
If you want the audience to believe the main character’s feelings are not one-sided, don’t make the fact that said feelings ARE unrequited a running joke, and don’t have the girl only accept giving him a chance after having to deal with the fucker whining “But I love you” for months and/or after going through bad break ups. Also, if you have to retcon half the fucking show to “proove” that “she DOES love him”, that pairing fucking sucks.
Don’t compare the couple you want the audience to root for to the main character’s divorced, dysfunctional parents, and don’t have flashbacks showing that the lead had no clue what his girlfriend actually liked in bed AND that she literally covered up his face so she could pretend she was fucking someone else.
DON’T MAKE HER GET RID OF HER DOGS, YOU FUCKING MONSTER!
If your lead character is still jealous/possessive of his ex, thinks he still has a chance even after she told him to his face that she didn’t love him, and acts like she and her fiance (who he says is his friend) being happy is somehow them being selfish and cruel, your lead character is a loser AND an asshole.
Don’t throw away the entire premise of the show (Ted finding the REAL love of his life) just to force a bad pairing down the audience’s throat
Ted Mosby in general
Don’t have your “romantic, sensitive hero” break up with a girl on her birthday through an answering machine, come back into her life without warning years later because he’s afraid he’ll die alone, and find out that she never heard the message but was actually told about it by her friends and family who were at her apartment preparing a surprise party for her. You should especially not make his first reaction to this new be being mad that he was not invited to the party, and for the love of God, don’t make him break up with her on her birthday AGAIN.
Don’t have the “hero” cheat on his girlfriend and excuse it with bullshit like “Nothing good happens 2 a.m.” and “But I genuinely love Robin so it’s okay that I’m lying to both of them”. Do not, I repeat, do NOT have him blame it on his girlfriend being distant when she didn’t pick up the phone one night and then called back the second she was free to do so, while he was enjoying the gifts she sent him and LIED to her about having sent her some as well.
Don’t fucking make an entire episode with the premise of him turning a no into a yes - and telling that story to his children like it’s romantic.
Don’t have his fiance, who he knows has a rocky relationship with the father of her daughter, tell him she is uncomfortable with him inviting his ex to their wedding and then have him decide “This means I should invite her ex as well”. Also don’t expect me to feel bad for him when she runs off with said ex.
Don’t have him spend YEARS waiting for one of the hundreds of girls he thinks is “the one” to be single and even ask her neighbour to spy on her and let him know when/if she breaks up with her boyfriend - again, for YEARS.
Don’t have the lead say he’s gonna tell their kids about his love story with their DECEASED mother, only for it to secretly be an excuse for him to go “By the way, I’m still in love with aunt Robin despite her having rejected me for 25 years, can I go screw her?”
Don’t act like making the characters reverse back into who they were at the beginning at the story means they’re gonna make things work this time when the whole point of their break up in the beginning on the story was the fact that they’re just not right for each other.
Robin and Kevin
A therapist who was supposed to help their patient move on after a bad break up that messed them up, dating said patient is a major red flag. It is also a bad sign that, when she cheats on him and wants to break up, he realized what she was doing to used his job as “evidence” that he knew better and that she should NOT tell her partner how she felt/what she actually wanted.
Do NOT have said therapist date yet ANOTHER patient that asked him help to move on from a bad break up. Seriously, Kevin was a creep, stop acting like he was some angel who “deserved better than Robin.”
BONUS: How NOT to break up a couple - Barney and Robin edition
Don’t act like their relationship falling appart after their friends kept meddling, and even kept them locked in a room against their will until they labeled their relationship as something they aproved of, is somehow “proof” that they’re not good for each other.
Don’t retcon their relationship to force a break up (seriously, Barney was super supportive of Robin long before he even fell in love with her, but I’m supposed to believe he’d be a bad boyfriend who is never there for her? And he loved advantures and always said “challenge accepted”, but was suddenly miserable travelling the world with her and couldn’t deal with not having wi-fi at the hotel? Fuck off)
Don’t spend an entire season focusing on their wedding, have them get married and then divorce THE NEXT FUCKING EPISODE! Why do you hate your audience? Even people who don’t want them together can see this a terrible idea.
And most important of all, when people question what the fuck were you thinking, don’t have a meltdown on twitter and say that people who think Barney can change are responsible for Donald Trump being elected, you fucking weirdo, go see a therapist (that isn’t like Kevin)

Even Though We May Be Hopeless Hearts Just Passing Through, I Was Made For Loving You PT. 1
Batsis x Kyle Rayner
Word Count: 2.1K Warnings: Explicit Language
Author's Note: I realize the other story didn't follow the whole, dating the brother's best friend trope, so I decided to remedy it. And what do you get when you cross a hopeless romantic with someone who's new to love? Perfection. That's what. Enjoy! -Thorne
**********************************************************************
Saturday mornings, in Dick’s opinion, were meant for sleeping in and quite possibly going to IHOP when everyone finally crawled out of bed at ten. They were not meant for being shoved in the side by a little brother.
“Golden-boy,” a voice grouched from beneath the bedside. “Your phone’s been going off for an hour. Either put it on silent or answer the goddamn thing.”
Dick let out a tired ‘pfft’, rolling onto his stomach, face buried in the side of the bed as he looked down to the floor. “Annoyed much, Little-wing?”
“I am going to shove that phone so far up your—”
Reaching over, Dick put the phone to his ear. “Hello?”
Where are you?
“Still in bed,” he responded, sentence ending in a groan as he stretched. “Why?”
You were supposed to be on the flight back to Gotham two hours ago.
Dick’s eyes went wide, and he sat up, gaping at the bedside clock. “It’s today.”
It is today. I can’t believe you forgot it was today.
“Oh my God, it’s today and we missed our flight.” He stumbled out of the bed, barely registering the shout from Jason as his foot landed in his brother’s stomach. “Jason, get up! It’s today!’
“What’s today?” his little brother griped, rubbing his abdomen.
“(Y/N)’s coming back!”
Jason’s eyes went wide, and he scrambled to his feet, hurriedly finding his bag to change out of his nightclothes. “Christ, I can’t believe we forgot that (Y/N) was coming home today!” he looked at Dick. “This is your fault.”
“My fault?” Dick yelped. “How is this my fault!”
He scowled. “Big brother wanted everyone to be with a sibling for the night, so they’d be together and be punctual but you and I both know neither of us have any concept of time.” His scowl grew. “I knew I should’ve bunked with Cass. She’s on time no matter what happens.”
Dick threw Jason’s sweatshirt at him. “Dress now, bitch later.” He put the phone back to his ear. “We missed our flight, but we can drive there.”
Your car’s in the shop.
“Shit,” he hissed, spinning in a circle to help his brain circuit enough to think of something new. “Uh-uh-uh—”
“Kyle!” Jason shouted, pointing at him. “Kyle’s like thirty minutes away from Manhattan! We’ll go to him for a ride!”
Dick grinned. “We’ll find Kyle.”
You sure Kyle’s at home?
“Pfft, Kyle’s always home on the weekends. He’s lazy.”
Just get here. (Y/N)’s plane is going to land in less than four hours.
“We’ll be there,” he said. “Is Diana coming too?”
Of course. She is (Y/N)’s mother.
“Nice. Alright, see you in Gotham, Bruce.”
Love you boys. And be careful. I’ve already heard that Cass, Tim, and Steph got into a fender-bender with Damian and Duke.
Dick blinked. “They’re…they’re legitimately driving separate cars? How’d they hit each other?”
Don’t ask.
The line went dead, and Dick looked at his brother. “Ready?”
Jason nodded. “Already got an Uber to Kyle’s place.”
“We could always just Uber to Gotham?” he offered, and Jason recoiled with a shocked look.
“And pay a ridiculous amount of money instead of just paying Kyle’s gas? Fuck no, big brother.” He shoved his wallet and keys into his pockets. “C’mon!” he chirped, rather excitedly. “Our baby sister’s coming home!”
***
When he swung the door open to yell at whoever was pounding on it, he wasn’t expecting to see two of his best friends grinning like idiots. “Wha—”
He’d barely gotten a word out when Jason shoved a bag of fast food in his hands. “Get dressed. You’ve gotta drive us to Gotham City.”
Kyle blinked, glancing down at the bag before looking at Dick. “Why?”
“Our sister’s coming home, and we overslept and missed out flight outta here.”
“And you came to me…why?” he asked.
“Because you have the functioning car.” Jason retorted, antsy on his feet. “C’mon Kyle. We have to hurry! (Y/N)’s coming home!”
Figuring it was better to agree than to argue, Kyle relented, handing back the bag of food before he disappeared into his apartment, reappearing moments later, dressed in a pair of dark blue jeans, a graphic tee, and his usual slim casual jacket. He took the bag back and started digging around in it.
“Who’s (Y/N)?” he inquired, biting into a breakfast burrito as he locked his front door behind him.
“Our baby sister.” Jason said.
“I thought Cass was your baby sister?”
Dick nodded, getting out his own breakfast from the bag. “She is. But (Y/N)’s like…the OG baby sister.”
Kyle blinked, glancing over at him as he pushed the elevator button. “That makes no sense.”
“He means that (Y/N) was around before Cass was.”
“And she isn’t with you guys why?”
“She’s been on Themyscira for the last few years training with her grandmother and the other Amazons.” Jason answered as if it was the most normal thing in the world, stepping onto the elevator.
Kyle merely stared at the two brothers who were looking back at him; he felt like he’d been punched in the stomach. “Wait, your sister’s an Amazon?”
“Yep.”
“Who’s her mom?” he asked, stepping between them.
“Wonder Woman.” Dick said.
Strike two. “Who’s her dad?”
“Batman.” Jason responded.
Believe it or not, Kyle went three for three punches to the gut. “Bruce and Diana had a kid together?”
“Yeah.” Dick murmured. “I think it’s also why B’s so insistent against inter-team-relations.” He nudged Jason behind Kyle. “First time he attempts dating a coworker he ends up with a baby.”
Jason snorted. “And all those lessons about, ‘Children, whatever you do, don’t date anyone on your team. It’ll only lead to babies and limited visitation’.” He laughed again, then he frowned. “I don’t think any of us have followed that lesson.”
Dick opened his mouth to make an excuse but all that came out was a pitiful, deflate of air followed by, “That’s actually a good point.”
The elevator dinged and they watched the doors open before walking out towards the parking garage. They climbed into Kyle’s car, Jason in the front because his legs were longer than Dick’s, and Dick was a contortionist anyways so if anyone deserved to have their knees in their chest, it was him.
Halfway through the drive Kyle asked, “You guys are paying for my gas, aren’t you?”
All he received was unsure responses and he merely sighed.
***
He figured he should’ve just dropped Jason and Dick off at the airport in Gotham and drove home, but he couldn’t help but want to see just what the daughter of Wonder Woman and Batman looked like. He imagined a little girl dressed in a Batman suit three sizes too big and wielding a sword and a lasso way too heavy for her. It made him smile, the way that the two brothers gushed about (Y/N). From their praise, she was their world. Kyle had to see her though, because nothing was going to satiate that curiosity of seeing the big Batman’s daughter.
He watched Dick and Jason crane their necks like birds as they looked around. And honestly, the family shouldn’t have been that hard to find considering that every time Kyle was around the entirety of the Batfamily, they were like psychos on steroids—he very much so understood why the entirety of Gotham’s villains became flighty when every member of the Batfamily was out patrolling.
Kyle wasn’t expecting a voice to crack over the airport, loud and bubbly. “Brothers!”
All three of them stopped, even him who wasn’t even a sibling, looking over towards the call and Kyle’s jaw dropped as a young woman sprinted over to Dick and Jason, slamming into them with the weight of a train. The three of them collapsed into a pile on the floor, but they were laughing so Kyle assumed the siblings were alright.
“Princess!”
“Baby girl!”
“Oh, I am so glad to see you both!” she exclaimed. “I have waited so long to come home!” she was on her feet in moments, pulling them to theirs as if they weighed nothing. And Kyle knew Jason weighed a lot—he’d been crushed under his best friend before in fights.
Suddenly, she stopped and looked over at Kyle who immediately felt his heart lurch under her sharp gaze. “Who is this you have brought?”
Jason gestured to him. “(Y/N) this is Kyle. He’s a friend of Dick and mine. Kyle, this is our little sister, (Y/N).”
She huffed laugh. “I am not little, Jason. I am twenty-one.” Reaching out, she immediately pulled Kyle in for a hug, squeezing him tightly. “It is good to meet you, Kyle.”
“You too,” he murmured, feeling his cheeks warm as she pulled away and placed her hands on his shoulders.
“Any friend of my brothers is a friend of mine.” (Y/N) smiled. “Are you a superhero as well?”
He couldn’t help but toss a quick glance towards Jason who nodded. “Uh, yeah. I’m a Green Lantern.”
(Y/N)’s eyes widened in wonder, and she let go of his shoulders in favor of grabbing at his hands until she found his ring. She stared at it, murmuring quiet, ‘ooo’s and ah’s’. “That is simply amazing!” she chirped, looking at him, and then she silently gasped, raising his hand near his eyes. “Oh…your eyes are almost the same color as your ring.”
Her smile made Kyle’s heart beat a little faster as she expressed, “They are beautiful.”
They gazed at each other, too captivated in the moment to understand that the family had gathered around them by then. Someone’s hand curled around (Y/N)’s wrist and she looked over seeing Dick tugging her hand away.
“C’mon Princess, let’s go get your things on the belt.”
She smiled and followed, giving a small wave to Kyle, who returned hers shakily whilst grinning like a dope.
Someone elbowed him in the ribs, and he gasped, holding his side as Jason muttered, “Don’t ever stare at my sister like that again.”
Kyle blinked, glancing at him. “What’re you talking about?”
“You know exactly what I’m talking about, you goddamn skirt-chaser.”
“I didn’t do anything!” Kyle spluttered.
“You’re thinking about it.” Jason warned, pointing a finger in his face. “Make a move on (Y/N) and I’ll kill you with your own ring.” Kyle recoiled just as she and Dick were coming back, both holding a suitcase.
“Father!” she called, glancing at Bruce. “Dick and I have retrieved my luggage.”
He smiled at her. “Let’s go put it in the SUV then.” He paused, looking over the large group. He and Diana had ridden together, and since his children had fender-benders, they’d picked up Cass, Tim, Stephanie, Duke, and Damian; there wasn’t room for (Y/N) too.
“Father? Is something the matter?” (Y/N) was staring at him with concern.
“There’s not enough room in the SUV for you too. Maybe we—”
“There’s room in my car for (Y/N)!” Kyle blurted out, smiling nervously at Bruce. “I can follow behind you.”
Before anyone could screech ‘NO!’, mainly Dick and Jason, (Y/N) lit up like the morning sun. “Oh, that is a wonderful idea!” she grabbed onto Diana’s arm. “We should all stop for ice-cream though! Mother, what do you say?”
She smiled at her and leaned over, kissing her head. “I say that sounds like a fantastic idea, daughter.”
Kyle grinned and held out his arm for (Y/N), her giggling as she took it. “You know, I don’t live in Gotham, (Y/N), but I do know a good gelato store around the area.”
“What is gelato?” she asked, and he groaned.
“Oh, I can’t believe you don’t know what that is.” He started off, pilling her along, leaving everyone behind. “Don’t worry, I’ll show you.”
Jason’s face pinched and he looked over at Bruce. “Can I break the no-kill rule just once?”
Bruce blinked, crossing his arms over his chest as he watched his daughter laughing along with Kyle, both looking like newlyweds already. “Believe it or not, I’m strongly considering it.”
“Bruce.” Diana admonished. “Let (Y/N) and Kyle become friends. You know she doesn’t have many outside this family here.”
Dick growled. “Except Kyle doesn’t want to be friends with (Y/N), Diana. He wants to be her boyfriend.”
“They just met though?”
“Yeah, and Kyle’s a propose on week two type of man,” Jason griped. “Jesus Christ, this is going to be a disaster.”
“I don’t know about you guys, but (Y/N) and Kyle said gelato and you guys are just standing here.” Tim said. “Can we go now?”

keigo couldn’t tell if he found it more adorable or more annoying.
your obliviousness that is.
on one had, your cluelessness to the number two’s attraction towards you was most certainly adorable. the way you grew flustered when he walked by or leaned down to your height to tease and compliment you. the way your gaze dropped shyly to your desk when he’d ask something minuscule of you. keigo knew he intimidated you; after all, who wouldn’t be in the shoes of japan’s second most beloved hero.
the winged hero had wanted you ever since he first laid his avian eyes on you, after he’d stumbled back into his agency to complete paper work for that day’s patrol. you had been unpacking boxes at the desk outside of keigo’s office, hired to be a temporary assistant while the last had quit due to said blonde ‘being too much to handle.’
keigo still remembers the way your eyes had flittered to the floor as soon as he came into view and the timid way your name had slipped from between your pretty lips when he’d asked for your name.
the blonde swears he could never get tired of the sweet taste of ‘yn’ on his tongue.
you were nice company and worked well with keigo, since you were resilient unlike his last assistant. he couldn’t fault you anywhere, not in your kind smile and precious gestures ( you always brought him a chicken sandwich when you came back from your lunch break ). you were a gem. the only ‘annoying’ thing was that you never quite understood his flirting.
sure; some of keigo’s methods like bringing you little gifts of shiny things and rocks were a little unconventional... but he couldn’t help it! he was a goddamned bird after all and it wasn’t his fault you mistook the dead rabbit on your desk as a cruel practical joke instead of a proclamation of love. and okay, maybe keigo giving you extra work so you could spend more time with him after office hours was a little over the top; but at least his pickup lines got through to you.
they were cringeworthy of course but at the very least; they made you grin even if you were a bit confused. one time you thought he had been practicing on you to test on endeavour on their patrol later that day. another story for another time.
so maybe the most annoying thing wasn’t your obliviousness to keigo’s advances but instead the reactions and teasing from his friends. just like now.
“so what’s it gonna be today keigo?” rumi asks from the winged hero’s left, her rabbit ears twitch and pick up on his light scoff— while he mentally prepares for the incoming barrage of teasing. “’are you the alphabet because i can c u and i together?’”
“no rumi, i’ve got better than that.” keigo barks out with a shift of his crimson wings, the number five smirks from beside him and keigo rolls his eyes with defeat, hating the way his wings often conveyed his underlying emotions.  the elevator they both travel in comes to a slow stop on the thirteenth floor of the hawks agency where the man himself hosts meetings in his office. the whole reason rumi was even here was to attend some dumb mission briefing the commission wanted to set them on but more than likely the bunny like hero would be here to tease keigo about his failed attempts at flirting with you. “just you wait!”
she enjoyed making his life a living hell. “i don’t know, nothing can quite beat that ‘i’m not a photographer but i can picture you and i together’ line you used last week!” rumi winks, swiftly exciting the elevator as the doors chime and open up, just narrowly avoiding the flurry of cursing and chirps from the bird-like hero.
said  blonde follows with a huff,  making a b-line for his sacred office as he sets his mind on getting the meeting done. the sooner it ends, the sooner rumi can get the hell out of his hair and stop bullying him for having a crush on his personal assistant. only, keigo is stopped in his tracks when he notices you innocently perched at your desk, tapping away at some document on your computer—  one that he probably could’ve and should’ve done himself. hawks almost hates how he catches himself blushing over how you complete such a mundane task,  the squint to your  eyes and the slight pinch to your brows in concentration ( which is adorable to him quite frankly ) make his heart flutter.
he finds himself coming to a stop just in front of your desk, causing rumi to slow up ahead and turn around to watch the chaos unfold.
your typing ceases quickly when you notice the shadow on your boss looming over you— his gold and piercing avian eyes staring right back down at you as soon as you look up. “oh! mr hawks, you’re back—!”
“yn, i seem to have lost my number, can i borrow yours?” hawks blurts out the cheesy line, almost instantly regretting it right after.
there’s a beat of silence between you both while your face morphs into one of confusion. why would he need to borrow your number when you could just locate it in the personal records you had access to? in the meantime, miruko has taken it upon herself to fill the awkward air with pockets of wheezy laughter. you blink up at your boss, once, twice, three times before reaching for your notebook with all of his important details written inside. “mr hawks, if you wanted me to read your number out loud for you again , you could have asked! i'm more than happy to!” you say your words slowly, just to make sure he understands— your boss can be a bit of an air head sometimes and it is your job to help him out.
“no—yn, no i—” keigo instantly shakes his head, the red tint of shame blaring across his cheeks in a shade that almost rivals the red of his wings. said appendages puff up and flutter with embarrassment and it doesn’t help that his fellow hero is laughing at him so hard that she’s bent over and struggling to breathe. “baby—i meant i was asking for your numb—“
you smile up at him with sweet innocent eyes that have his words dying in his throat. “i didn’t know you had a baby! congratulations mr hawks!” and then you return to typing.
keigo wants to die, physically deflating right in front of your desk where he stands.
rumi, who now seems to have recovered from her laughing fit passes by keigo with a pat to his back, he only pouts while she wipes the remainders of amused tears from her eyes before perching herself on your desk, practically leaning over you. you look up once again, feeling shy under the gaze of yet another esteemed pro hero but greet her politely with a bob of your head.
“yn, hun, can i ask you a question?” the number five asks you, warm grin helping you relax just a little.
“yes miss miruko?”
you find the woman shaking with laughter above you before she pets your hair endearingly, the gesture almost makes you pout and you have to remind yourself of where you are and who you work for. “firstly, love, you can call me rumi, i know you’re shy but i don’t bite…” you paw gently at your cheeks in oder to fight the growing heat that burns brightly under your skin, growing ever so flustered under miruko’s silky voice and knowing gaze. “secondly, hawks isn’t a father nor does he have a baby— he was addressing you, sweetheart. and finally,” rumi pauses, patting your head again as her bunny ears twitch with amusement and mischief. “how do you feel about the bird brains over there, do you like him?”
takami jolts up in his place, impossibly redder than he was before while he makes an attempt to shut rumi up with his ruffled feathers. the bunny simply catches the red feather between her hands, giving them a little tickle to distract her fellow hero , tilting her head down at you as if to ask ‘well?’ you gulp, feeling yourself become nervous as the two wait for your answer expectantly. of course you had nothing but positive feelings towards your boss; he was kind and made the time out of his busy day to talk to you— but why did they care so much as to ask you for your opinion? you were only his assistant and saying anything bad about the number two hero would surely get you fired.
hesitantly, your gaze flickers between the clearly entertained miruko and the highly embarrassed hawks— forcing you to take a deep breath before delivering your anticipated answer. “well—! he’s a great boss, i— i couldn’t ask for better, why wouldn’t i like a boss who gives me an hour and a half’s lunch break?” you sigh in relief at your answer, assuring yourself that it won’t have offended anyone but your heart rate is quick to spike when miruko squishes your cheeks and tilts your head to face your flustered boss.
“no sweetheart,” she corrects herself, pointing over at keigo who cowers into his wings. “i mean, do you like him as in... would you date him?”
you swear on all might’s life that you almost pass out from her words, mind swirling with a thousand thoughts. why would she ask that of you? sparing a glance at your boss once move, you realise what all of this is about. his hot blush, the way he avoids your stare, his flustered state to match your own. he likes you, just as you like him. rumi was only being a good wing woman, one that you were grateful for— as you’d never make a move on hawks on your own, no matter how many feelings you’d harboured for him in the time that you’d worked for him. You had been oblivious to his romantic gestures this whole time and now; the situation for you to confess had presented itself to you.
to hell with it.
“yes,” you breathe as best you can through squished cheeks, staring at keigo with eyes dreamy enough to make his heart soar. “why wouldn’t anyone? i-i mean, mr hawks is so sweet and kind to everyone he meets, fans or not! and…and he’s really pretty— i mean handsome… and his eyes—“ you cut yourself off upon realising the tangent you’ve gone on just to prove your attraction to your boss, looking away shyly and rumi let’s you go with a sweet chuckle.
but just as quickly as you look away, the softness of a little red feather tilts your focus back to him. “glad to know you think so yn,” he winks, making you giggle shyly. “i’ll pick you up tonight at seven for valentines, then.”
and who were you to say no to him.

Soutaicho’s Secret Admirer (Shunsui x Reader) — Part 5/6
Author’s Note:
It should be noted that this story is almost coming to a close...I’m sad to stop writing about Shunsui but it’s time to wrap this one up. So there’s maybe 1 or 2 more parts left.
Warning: A bit of smut ahead. One can only be seduced endlessly for so long without something happening about it.
Read Part 1, Part 2 , Part 3  and Part 4 first!
Tumblr media
Uncharacteristically, Shunsui was late to arrive at the office. It was almost ten in the morning when he finally strolled in. Nanao would have admonished him without a thought but the dark circles beneath his eyes revealed he had already had a terrible night. She didn’t want to make it a terrible morning as well.
Shunsui didn’t have the excuse of drunken debauchery at some late night party for his tardiness. The last party he’d been to had been Lisa-chan’s Valentine’s Day celebration and that was over two weeks ago.
It was more or less about how his loneliness and melancholy had kept him up late into the night. Something he definitely didn’t want to burden sweet Nanao-chan about.
He had found himself strolling randomly in seireitei at around three in the goddamn morning because simply staying in his bed staring at his ceiling felt impossible. He didn’t have these kind of difficult nights too often but when he did have them, they were quite terrible.
Sure, he missed Juu. But his loneliness was a bit more than that this time.
It has been over two weeks since he had received anything from his beloved Secret Admirer. Fourteen whole days of complete silence from her was quite unusual, and he felt it acutely. Where was she?
The darkest of thoughts had plagued him at night. What if she was sent on a dangerous mission? What if she had been injured? He hated to think it...but what if she was never coming back? Hadn’t he honestly lost enough?
The thoughts spiraled as the evening progressed into the wee hours of the morning, growing darker and more melancholy.
He knew he was not the greatest catch in the Soul Society. That title fell to Byakuya, uncontested. Shunsui was older than everyone in seireitei - a thousand years too old, he’d say. He was nobility too but he wasn’t one to truly fit into that mould, which deterred most noblewomen from considering him.
He wasn’t what one would call conventionally handsome either. He knew he wasn’t ugly...but he wasn’t exactly...whole. Not anymore. Maybe once he would have held some appeal and he had many lovers who thought him handsome enough to have a tumble with him... but the eyepatch never failed to remind him that he was never going to be good looking, by anyone’s standards, with a goddamn hole in his face.
Most days, none of this would honestly bother him. But last night it did.
His beloved Secret Admirer probably came to the conclusion that he wasn’t worth all the trouble after all. Surely, there had to be a reason why he had never been able to have a long term relationship. He blamed it on his job but...was that all it was? Maybe he was just not meant to have a happily ever after with someone.
As romantic as he was, he didn’t really believe in the concept of happily ever after. He knew relationships were work. It was a commitment between two people who cared about each other to work on staying together through whatever. With time, he had put any thoughts of a relationship on the back burner. With his duty to the Gotei 13, and his responsibilities as well as the added burden of maintaining his reputation as the Soutaicho...it was a practical choice.
But his Secret Admirer had made him want. Had made him yearn for a happily ever after for himself in a way he never had before.
He wanted to be loved and cherished as much as he wanted to love and cherish that one special person in his life. But did he really deserve it?
He knew it was her silence that had his latent insecurities rising to the surface keeping him up at night.
So as sleep deprived as he was, he came to the office with a plan. He couldn’t bear her silence anymore so he was not going to. With everything that had come up in the office, he hadn’t been able to finish up the letter he had started to write to her. At that time, it had felt futile considering there was no way to send it to her.
But he had a brilliant idea. He would have it published in the next installment of the Seireitei Communication including just enough information so that she would know it’s him while withholding enough details to still keep it anonymous. He could trust Hisagi-kun to be discreet.
He had a plan, and it could actually work!
If only he could actually find that bit of lavender paper he had left on his desk.
“Nanao-chan, did you remove anything from my desk by any chance?” he asked, opening up drawers and bending down to check under the desk.
Nanao looked up from the training schedule she was working on. “Nothing more than the usual paperwork. Why what have you lost now?” she asked with an overexaggerated sigh.
“My, my, Nanao-chan. You make it sound like I lose things on a daily basis.”
“The only thing lost on a daily basis around here is my sanity,” she said, rolling her eyes. Still she relented. A distressed Taicho always meant a distressed Nanao. “Fine. Describe it to me and I will tell you if I saw it anywhere.”
“It was nothing official. Just a bit of lavender paper I had been writing on…” he trailed off seeing the look on her face. “What? Did you see it?”
“You lost the letter you were writing to you Secret Admirer?” she asked.
“Nanao-chan! How did you…?”
“You forget, Taicho,” she said quite matter of factly. “There’s nothing that goes on here I don’t know about. But I haven’t seen it. Maybe it got mixed up in some paperwork and got sent to another division. I don’t think anyone would recognize your flowery handwriting which you reserve for your personal correspondence anyway. So nothing to worry about.”
Shunsui simply stared at her. He has known his little fuktaicho for too long to not notice that something was off. All this time, he thought she was just laughing at his expense because he was mooning over someone he didn’t even know. But now...that look...the way she said it without even having to think about it...it all felt fishy somehow. Nanao-chan was up to something.
“Why are you staring at me like that?” she huffed, correcting the papers on her desk that didn’t need correcting. A nervous habit that always gave her away. “If you don’t have any serious work, I have a pile of forms…”
“You know perfectly well who it is, don’t you, Nanao-chan?” he interrupted her attempts to distract him.
“I don’t know what you’re…”
“Please, Nanao-chan. It’s perfectly obvious you know exactly what I am talking about. Just...tell me…” he said.
He was so serious and intent. Nanao had only ever seen him like that in the heat of the worst kind of battle. She dropped her pretenses as well.
“She and I have both left enough breadcrumbs for you as it is. So if you’re so desperate to know who she is, why don’t you do the work to actually find out?” she asked him. “Clearly the girl cares about you but is terrified to approach you. Who wouldn’t be considering who you are and the position you hold. She is a nice girl, Taicho. But as things stand, she wouldn’t be the one to approach you so maybe you should find out for yourself who she is and do the approaching.”
So Nanao did indeed know who his Secret Admirer was. He understood her reasons why she couldn’t tell him. It wasn’t really her secret to divulge. Shunsui had to respect that despite his desperation.
“Is my sweet Nanao-chan giving her taicho dating advice?” he teased instead.
“Yes, I am,” she declared with a raised brow. “For even I can see how far you’ve fallen that you need advice from me to get yourself a date!”
Shunsui gasped, buying into the friendly teasing. “Nanao-chan is so mean to her taicho!”
Finally, they both got back to work, but Shunsui’s mind was still thinking about what Nanao had said. Apparently breadcrumbs were laid out and he hadn’t even noticed! He clearly had to pay more attention.
He tried to outline the facts in his mind.
The letters were always lemon scented. It could be a shampoo or some kind of scented cream...but it smelled fresh, almost as if unintentional. Something to further ponder upon.
The gifts were always elaborate but simple and he hadn’t been able to trace it through any vendor. The chocolates were handmade so his little Secret Admirer was probably very good with cooking and baking.
The handwriting was very distinctive as well. Especially the way she looped all her Ls and Bs with a distinctive flowy curve.
So far, the facts didn’t fit well into place to identify her as anyone he knew...but somehow, it felt like it was just barely within reach now. As if it’s only missing one final puzzle piece for the whole thing to come together.
__
That night, sleep evaded him once more. He couldn’t deny it. He missed her! He couldn’t help but wishing that she was right next to him, romancing him with more than just her words. He wished he could cherish her in all the ways he desperately yearned to.
He took the letters he kept at hand in the drawer of his bedside table. He found that he liked to read them sometimes, and no matter how many times he read her words, they still managed to make him feel things. The shape of her words, the texture of the paper...it comforted him.
However, the sensual seductive ones were his downfall.
With all the time he has been alive, and all the experience he’s had, one would think he would be able to resist the temptation. But he often couldn’t.
Reading those letters, describing how she wanted to make love under the moonlight or how she yearned to taste him...it had him imagining soft feminine hands touching him. His hand would unconsciously reach into his hakama of its own volition and grasp his manhood, wondering what it would feel like to be touched by someone who ardently wanted to please him.
It wouldn’t take him too long at all. He would cum, gasping into the empty bedroom, wishing he had a name he could moan. Wishing she was here for him to hold.
Sated, he’d finally fall asleep. Yet though his body was satisfied, his mind wasn’t. He couldn’t help but feel alone on this big empty bed.
__
That coveted final piece of the puzzle arrived as, of all things, more paperwork. He was mindlessly flipping through some reports after lunch the next day when it popped out at him like well-lit beacon.
It wasn’t anything special. Just a request for more funds to be allocated for a better training ground for the 13th division. Except it was filled out by his beloved Secret Admirer. The handwriting screamed her identity at him, looping Ls and Bs and all.
“_____-san,” he whispered to himself, wondering how he could have missed it.
Suddenly, everything was perfectly crystal clear.
Everyone knew that while Kuchiki Rukia settled in enough to pick her own fuktaicho, the 3rd seat of the 13th was acting in that role in an unofficial capacity, putting her in-charge of all the paperwork coming and going from that division. A reason why she was always showing up at the 1st...giving her ample opportunities to learn his habits well enough to leave behind those delightful missives without ever getting caught.
The lemon scent was from all the lemonade he knew she made for her division and for some special occasions in the seireitei. It was her specialty, a way of creating comfort and homeliness for her subordinates. He had tasted her chocolates twice - once at the Valentine’s Day party itself and then when she gifted them to him specifically. Both facts which had been pointed out by Nanao-chan while _____-san stood right next to him. No wonder she had flushed red then. It hadn’t been out of embarrassment but possibly from thinking she might get caught. The little minx.
He couldn’t help but remember every encounter he had with her in the recent past. Her cute blushes...the way she gasped out “Soutaicho!” Come to think of it, every time he saw her, he felt like she almost called him Shunsui out of habit only to change it to his official title at the last minute. He even recalled the twinkle in her eyes every time she looked up at him.
He couldn’t believe it. He finally knew who his Secret Admirer was and she’d been right before his eyes, had he only known where to look. He couldn’t help smiling, thinking about all the ways he would get back at her for running him around in circles. He would torture her so, so deliciously…
“You have that dopey smile on your face. Should I be worried?” Nanao asked, breaking him out of his thoughts.
“Hmm…? Of course not, Nanao-chan,” he said, not really reassuring her at all. “I am heading out. Be back soon!”
“Taicho!” she called out but he was already gone.

...to be continued.

nieyao or 3zun + prompt 64 with cat!baxia
64. “I think your cat wants to kill me.” [This got way away from me WHOOPS]
“So. This date is going fantastically. Do I make top 10?”
Meng Yao huffed a short, polite laugh through his nose at Mingjue’s rueful question. “Being nursed back to health by a handsome man is certainly adding back points lost in the cat attack,” he replied, and some of the frustrated dread bled from the ball in Mingjue’s chest. “I really could do this myself, you know,” he added.
Mingjue sighed. “Yeah, well, since it was my cat attack, I feel like I need to make reparations. I’ve also taken First Aid more times than I can count and cat scratches can get really nasty.”
If this were a one of the sappy romcoms Huaisang loved so much, standing at the sink together as he tended to the 2 gashes scoring down Meng Yao’s forearm with several antiseptic soaked cotton balls had the potential to be romantic. Except Mingjue had never liked those movies and he just felt like a fucking asshole who owned an unruly animal.
He had met Meng Yao at the grocery store. Mingjue had looked up from his phone at the sound of a sharp voice--a middle aged business man was snapping at a young man in front of him in line; "Fucking Christ, you're going to hold up everyone."
"You can go ahead of me if you'd like--"
"There's a whole line of people here! We all have places to go!"
The man being yelled at--(the very attractive man with round, dark eyes, he noted)--had grimaced placatingly, as the cashier was saying, "We can hold his groceries while he goes out, sir, you won't have to wait."
A the business man threw his hands into the air in disgust, Mingjue had slid his phone into his back pocket and interrupted in his 'is this guy bothering you' voice; "What's the problem?"
3 pairs of eyes had darted to him immediately and gone wide. The very good looking man had tensed completely, eyes darting to the door in a way that looked involuntary--and well, Mingjue had been struck by the completely overwhelming urge to tuck him back behind him and make this asshole between them shit his pants in fear. And anyone else that made him look that scared, for that matter. "I'm sorry," the scared, attractive, adorable, fragile-looking, harassed young man had said a tight smile, "I forgot my wallet in my car, we can just--"
"Here," Mingjue slid out his credit card handed it--pointedly--over Mr. Business-Asshole's head to the cashier. "I'll cover it. You know what," he had added, fixing the quickly wilting dickhead with his best 'I-can-bench-press-you-and-then-feed-you-your-own-esophagus-no-problem' stare, "Why don't you get the nice lady behind me, too. Once this guy is done running for the biggest jackass award. I'll wait."
And, you know, weirdly enough, Mr. Asshole had actually left the line, red faced and without his shitty little protein shakes. As the cashier bit back a grin and rung up the card, the harassed young man--who was even prettier up close, holy hell, it made his lower back sweat--had tried to insist that it wasn't necessary, that really, he had the money, he could just go get it, he appreciated it but didn't need Mingjue to put himself out. Mingjue had just shrugged and held out his hand. "It's the principle of the thing. Nie Mingjue."
The man had opened his mouth, looked down at his hand; then, he had smiled and holy goddamn fucking shitballs he had dimples. Shaking it firmly in a hand that was soft and cool and slim, he had said, "Then...thank you. Meng Yao. I'll have to pay you back. Do you have a cash app?"
"Don't bother."
"I insist."
"You can buy me dinner sometime, then," Mingjue's mouth had decided to say without permission, but luckily he agreed with the idea and so had been quite pleased to see Meng Yao's ears go pink.
"...That sounds fair," he replied, finally, those lovely dimples returning.
The cashier had cleared their throat, brightly. "Do you by chance have our loyalty card?"
They agreed on a first date in a public restaurant where they could verify that the other wasn’t some sort of serial killer. It had even been a nice one that Meng Yao had insisted on where they had also shared a bottle of wine and interesting conversation. Meng Yao was exceedingly smart and easy to talk to--the perfect conversational partner with a knack for solving many of the problems that Mingjue hadn't even realized he complained about. In return, he had made his attraction quite clear and Meng Yao had ducked his head.
"I'll have you know that I don't go home with anyone on the first date," he had said carefully, eyes on his fingertip as he ran it around the rim of his wineglass. "It's a personal rule of mine. I wouldn't want you to get the wrong impression."
"That's fine with me," Mingjue shrugged. "If you're up for it, I'll wait for as many dates outlasts your rule, 'cause I grill a mean steak."
Those dimples came back and he had sat back in his chair, voice light as he asked, "Oh? Won't you get bored?"
Mingjue had snorted and finished off his glass. "Just because I'd like to sleep with you doesn't mean I don't also want to get to know you, you know."
Mingjue was just getting to know the guy, so he couldn't be sure, but that answer seemed to please him.
The night of the cat disaster was the 4th on their run of dates--Mingjue had shooed Huaisang over to Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng’s house for the night and invited Meng Yao over via text for dinner and a movie and also the option of sex, if he wanted.
Apparently, the bluntness had made Meng Yao laugh. Mingjue had texted back that he preferred honesty in all things and could handle a ‘no, thanks’ with plenty maturity. Meng Yao had replied, ‘I’m sure you can,’ which, he had very keenly noticed, was not a ‘no, thanks.’
Dinner had gone great--homemade meals always seemed to impress--and they had been preparing to split a chocolate lava cake in front of a shitty action movie they had both agreed on with the understanding that neither of them minded missing anything if they decided fooling around was more interesting.
But now, there was blood everywhere--on the dishes in the sink, on the towel they had hastily staunched it with, on the countertop and the mood was ruined because his giant, grumpy ass cat had decided to savage his date as they were cleaning up the table. Baxia had sniffed his leg suspiciously when he first came in, flinching away as he knelt down to offer his fingers. Then, she had fixed him with a glare, hissed, and turned around and stalked away, fluffy gray tail held high--which, for her, was practically a warm welcome. She had her boys--Huaisang and Mingjue--and hated pretty much everyone else (except for Wei Wuxian's older sister Jiang Yanli when she had dropped him off to hang out with Huaisang when his license got suspended. Which had happened a few times, now).
Everything had been fine with her while they ate--she had even spent it under the table, rubbing up against Mingjue's legs, staring up at Meng Yao without making so much as a peep. It was when they had risen that disaster struck. She had hopped up onto Meng Yao's chair and decided to take personal offense to his existence with absolutely no warning at all when he passed by with his hands full of silverware.
Now, Meng Yao’s long fingers curled into a fist as the cotton passed over a particularly deep part of the slice, though his face remained calm, so Mingjue winced for him. "Sorry. I swear, she's never done this before, I don't know what the hell her problem is."
Meng Yao shook his head, smile pressed and polite as he said, "Really, it's fine." He shifted on his feet to lean his hip against the cupboards and, immediately, Mingjue seized his elbows.
“Are you dizzy?”
The other man had stiffened at the sudden movement, staring up at him. Then, he blinked and smiled, shaking his head. “No, I'm alright.”
Mingjue eyed him suspiciously. “You’re sure?”
He laughed. “I’m not going into shock, if that’s what you’re worried about. I’ve had much worse, trust me. I’m not going to pass out.”
Mingjue remained unconvinced. Instead of arguing further, he simply lifted him by the waist to sit on the island across from the sink for lack of a chair. Meng Yao let out the beginning of a squeak, hands automatically flashing up to bunch in the front of his shirt for balance. He blinked down at Mingjue, then the ground, then back at him, eyes wide and nostrils flared. Mingjue couldn't tell if it was annoyance, horniness, or a combination of both--and that was all well and good except that he was still bleeding and he knew from experience what a bitch blood was to get out of clothing. So he just pulled Meng Yao's arm out again and went back to work, asking, "So what was the 'much worse'?"
"Pardon?"
"You said you knew you're not going to pass out because you've had 'much worse'. What's the story there?"
"Ah. No story. I broke my arm. Compound fracture. I stayed awake the whole time, so a cat scratch is fairly minor, in comparison."
Mingjue hissed in through his teeth reflexively in sympathy and scanned him. Either he healed fantastically or the scar was higher up on his arms, under the soft cream sweater sleeves that were rolled up to his elbows--luckily, they had been rolled up before the attack and had escaped blood thus far. "Fuck. How'd that happen?"
"Fell down some stairs."
Mingjue raised an eyebrow at the stark explanation. "Well, maybe you shouldn't fall down stairs. Ever thought of that?"
Meng Yao smiled thinly down at him, dark eyes glinting in the fluorescent lights. "Mm. I'll have to keep that in mind." The dimples he searched for avidly were there, faintly, and Mingjue found himself wanting to nibble on them.
They hadn't done much else besides a kiss goodnight in the shadows near the entrance to the parking garages of their dates, because Mingjue was being good and keeping his hands above the belt. And he should probably figure out whether or not this date was going to have the eject button pressed, first. There was blood everywhere, still.
"Why all the First Aid classes?" Meng Yao asked suddenly, keeping his arm extended out even as Mingjue released him to rummage for the antibacterial spray. "Was it because your demon cat kept attacking people?"
Mingjue barked out a laugh and sprayed down his arm--Meng Yao didn't flinch. "At first, it was for lifeguarding, every summer since I was 16 until I graduated college. Now, I take refresher courses because I run a martial arts studio and shit can get real real fast, especially with newbies who try to fuck around." Tearing open the packet of sterilized gauze with his teeth so he could still hold his arm, he situated it and held it with a gentle thumb. "Tape or gauze wrap?"
Meng Yao shrugged. "I have no preference. Surprise me."
Gauze wrap it was. It would hurt less than pulling tape off his arm later. Meng Yao watched him finish up quietly, ankles linked, posture straight and proper even sitting on a kitchen counter. On impulse, Mingjue lifted his now bandaged arm and kissed the skin of his wrist, just below where the gauze stopped and got a slight shiver for his trouble. He looked up at him, then, an angle he was not used to but was definitely enjoying. "This has been a piss poor date. I really am sorry."
"The dinner was lovely before it ended in bloodshed, I promise," Meng Yao assured him, smiling. Then, it grew a little sly and he leaned in, slowly, stretching his arms out over Mingjue's shoulders to link behind his neck. "Although, you could always kiss it better."
Well, there was no possible way to misinterpret that particular invitation and he heartily took it, snugging Meng Yao up against him with hands on his hips and devouring him just as indulgently as he would the forgotten lava cake cooling on the stove top. He hummed in appreciation as Meng Yao's arms wrapped tighter, his thighs squeezing around his hips as he kissed back with just as much enthusiasm. He tasted like the dry wine they had finished the meal with.
All at once, though, Meng Yao froze, hands stilling in his hair. Before Mingjue had time to be confused, he whispered against his mouth, "I think your cat wants to kill me," eyes fixed on something over Mingjue's shoulder.
Mingjue craned his neck around to find Baxia perched on the counter next to the sink, tail swishing, gaze locked with Meng Yao, ears flicked out to the sides. She let out a low, quiet growl.
"Oh, for fucks sake," Mingjue growled back. "That's it. You're going in Huaisang's room for the night."

Line without a Hook || E. Jaeger & J. Kirstein
Tumblr media
➳ Jean Kirsten x Fem Reader x Eren Jaeger
Word count: 4,517 Warnings: angst, fluff, unrequited love, cursing ➳ note: this is based off the song Line Without a Hook by Ricky Montgomery! I’ve been thinking this for a long time and I’m super excited by how it came out! Also big thanks to @reddriot for betaing!
➳ Synopsis: is love really worth it? Let me say, it’s not always worth it.
You can hold my hand if no one’s home.
Do you like it when I’m away?
☽✧ ✦ ✧☾
It starts out simple really. A boy and a girl. Childhood friends, to be precise. Those two are inseparable. Nothing can tear the friends apart, besides their parents, of course. Like two peas in a pod.
Jean says he knows you like the back of his hand. He truly means that. He knows your favorite boy bands from when you were younger, how many terrible phases you’ve gone through, favorite foods, and places. If he wrote a novel about the things you told him, he would be a renowned author.
Since kindergarten to now, in the middle of your junior year, you and Jean have been side by side. You told him everything. From random vents and gossiping about the rude girls in your class to how horrible your period cramps were— even though Jean hated hearing about the last, he stuck through it for you.
Only you.
The pavement that followed the street your house was on is memorable. Jean can recall the amount of times you’ve had races, chalk scribbles covering the grey that would be washed away by the angry neighbors.
He listens to you as you talk about a kid getting in trouble in your Calculus class, watches how lively your motions are as you speak. Jean can’t help but smile when a laugh slips past your lips and you glance at him. There’s an unknown sparkle in his eyes, one filled with love.
You haven’t changed one bit, he thinks as he faces back forward, shoving his hands in the front pockets of his jeans. His mind begins to wander as you both continue down the pavement, part of your routine when school ends.
Your houses are right next to each other. You’ve been with him since you were in diapers. He was there when your first tooth came out, congratulating you, and you were there for him when he finally learned to ride his bike with two wheels instead of three.
The bubbly lovable five-year-old back then is the same as you are now.
☽✧ ✦ ✧☾
Oh all my emotions
Feel like explosions when you are around
A sigh of disappointment leaves Jean’s lips when he listens to Connie talk about something he has learned over the weekend (something completely stupid— he just doesn’t care). Currently, the students are at lunch, the cafeteria full with loud shouts and random noises.
“Connie, shut up,” Sasha groans, placing her water bottle on the table, wiping her crumbs off. “No one cares that you finally figured out how to stick a spoon to your nose.”
“What do you mean?! You were the one who showed me!”
The brunette gasps and looks over his way, cream cheeks tinted with an adorable shade of pink, pointing a finger at him. The bickering between the two commence as Jean listens, slightly amused.
As much as he indulges in their argument, he can't help but wonder where you are.
It’s not like you to skip lunch, especially without at least letting him know. Did you stay behind to talk to a friend? A teacher? Maybe you went to the bathroom.
But it’s at least 15 minutes in.
“Sasha,” he speaks up, slicking back his hair. The sound of her name catches her attention, making her look at him. “Have you seen Y/N?”
“Y/N?” she asks in a whisper before her lips curl in a grin, already knowing why he asked. “Do you miss her?”
“Just answer my goddamn question!”
“Wait, what’s going on?” Connie asks, looking between his friends before stopping his gaze on Jean. “Why do you need Y/N?”
“Oh, you know! He lik-”
“Shut up!” Jean shouts, catching the attention of nearby students, his face heating up as his cheeks turn a darker pigment. “Just answer me!”
“If you must know,” she taunts him, twirling a strand of hair from her loose ponytail. “I saw her talking to someone in the hallway. Must be important, she’s been there for quite some time. Might want to be her knight in shining armor and saving her, huh?” she cocks her head to the side, staring at one of the windows in the room, watching as the branches of trees sway from the harsh winds.
The atmosphere outside was cold, breezes rushing down on anyone who was not inside. The sun was hidden by the thick grey blankets filled with rainwater, waiting to shower the world. The temperature recently has been dropping, mid 50’s at least. The weather was a shock, to say the least.
“I didn’t know Jean likes her!”
“What do you mean?!” Sasha gasps, turning her body to face her small-minded friend. “It’s only obvious! You must be really stupid then!”
“Well, how could you tell?!”
Before Jean has a chance to interrupt Sasha, she begins to rant. He prefers to stay silent, clasping his hands together in his lap as he lowers his head, finding interest in the marbled tiles of the floor his feet rest on.
The words that slip past Sasha’s lips reach his ear and out the other.
It’s easy to tell, Connie. Have you noticed the way he looks at her? Can’t you see the love in his eyes? The way he will actually go out of his way to help her with anything? Here you guys are, two close friends, I thought you would have known about his crush. I’m surprised you didn’t catch on every time he ditched plans with us to go hang out with her. He’s whipped, and you’re too stupid to know it.
His cheeks turn a shade of pink as his eyes squeeze shut, her words replaying in his head like a broken record player. Each sentence is like a knife stabbing away at his brain, causing the slightest ache to form in his frontal region.
She’s right. Anything she just said five minutes ago, is completely and utterly correct.
He can still hear her talking about it to Connie, but he can only focus on three sentences that stick to him like glue.
Have you noticed the way he looks at her? Can’t you see the love in his eyes? The way he will actually go out of his way to help her with anything?
Memories of him helping you in any possible way come to mind. He can’t recall how many times he has entered class two minutes late because you had so much to carry.
He stares at you like you’re the only thing worth looking at. It reminds him of those cliche animated movies with hearts in the character's eyes. He’s blinded by his love for you, that he never noticed any signs that you don’t feel the same way about him. His heart races miles per hour when you’re around. Sometimes he worries for himself that maybe, his heart might explode within him.
“Anyway, lunch has about 20 minutes left...where is she?” Connie mutters, scratching the top of his head.
“I don’t know, but,” Sasha grows quiet, listening to the ongoing thunder from the outside. The lights flicker for a second, a couple of yelps emitting from other students, slightly afraid that the power might go off while school is in session. “The storm is almost here.”
“Y/N!” Connie suddenly yells, pointing in the direction of the door, your body jogging closer to the table. “Where have you been?!”
“Sorry!” you laugh, out of breath as you drop your things on the bench, taking a seat beside Jean. “I got caught up in a conversation with someone! I guess I lost track of time for a bit.”
“I messaged you like four times,” Jean mutters, glancing over at you before looking at the table, playing with the plastic straw that he used to drink out of.
“You did?” you ask, pulling your phone out from your pocket, lips puckering when indeed he did so. “I’m sorry, Jean. I didn’t even feel my phone vibrate.”
“Oh, whatever, who cares! Eat! Or I’ll eat your food!” Sasha yells, pointing a finger at you, a smile gracing her features.
You laugh along with her as you converse with your peers, the conversation you had replaying in the back of your mind. Jean chooses not to intervene, instead would rather listen.
The roaring thunder plays in the background, everyone paying no mind to it. What he doesn’t know is that the storm is much closer than Jean could have thought.
☽✧ ✦ ✧☾
Listen close, it’s a no
The wind is a pounding on my back
And I found hope in a heart attack
Oh at last, it is past
Now I’ve got it, and you can’t have it
Another evening, another study session, another day of bottling up his feelings until he can no longer hold them inside.
The storm made its way to shore, raining pouring down and even some hail; not what anyone was expecting.
Jean mindlessly flips through the pages of his English book, not even paying attention to the words as he checks how many pages are in chapter five.
“This seems pointless,” he adds with a sigh, tossing the book on your bed along with his highlighter he uses to annotate with. “I should just find a summary online or something, I don’t want to read this.”
“And why is that?” you ask, looking up from your book, placing the hardcover against your thighs. “Is it boring to you?”
“No,” he mutters, rolling onto his back. “It’s stupid. This love crap.”
“Well...it is a romance story, the teacher told us when we got the book. But why do you think it’s dumb?”
“He writes letters for her, and in the end, she ends up rejecting him. I don’t think that’s romantic.”
“And? It’s beautiful on his part,” you close your eyes as you stretch your arms over your head, letting out a grunt. “It’s the fact that he wrote to her every day. It’s like he poured his soul into every word. The words he uses are..literally everything. It makes me swoon over him, and he’s not real. Makes me wonder if someone would do that for me.”
Jean’s head perks up at your words, one of his eyebrows raised in curiosity when he notices the bashful look on your face, eyes averted to the comforter on your bed. “Why do you have that dopey look on your face?”
“Huh?!” your eyes are blown open as you look over at him. “What are you talking about?!”
“I’m talking about that, idiot,” he points at your face, watching your eyes cross faintly to stare at his finger. “You’re acting about that guy in the book.”
The patter of the rain is the only noise that fills the void called silence in your room. His warm eyes don’t leave your face at all, waiting for your answer. You’ve been acting weird ever since you were late to lunch this past week.
He watches your mouth open as if you’ll say something but close it right away, like you were concealing anything you had to hide.
“...well? Y/N? Are you there?”
“Yeah!” you cough into your elbow, running a hand down your face. “I-- you can’t tell anyone.”
“You know I never tell anyone what we talk about.”
You’re silent, a bit too quiet than usual. You fiddle with your fingers before blurting the words that have been eating away at you.
Jean’s heart stops for a moment, eyes wide in shock when he processes it. His blood runs cold as he’s unable to move, frozen like a statue. The signals in his brain begged him to respond, but he couldn’t. He could hear the faintest sound of bells ringing in his ears; all noise surrounding him was now drowned out by his thoughts.
One second.
Two seconds.
Three seconds.
“You like someone?” he asks in a whisper, barely audible to your ears, but you heard as you nod shyly, biting down on your lip. “Well... who is it?”
“That’s...I can’t say it.”
“Why can’t you?”
“I’m afraid to say it out loud because I don’t want to ruin my friendship with him.”
Friendship? That could be anyone at this point.
I have to figure out who, he thinks as he draws random patterns into the sheets. “Well, tell me about him then. Is he in our grade?” he asks.
“Yeah, he is. He’s in four of my classes.”
Jean was in four of your classes. Math, English, Foreign Language, and Science.
“That’s it?”
You huff, rolling your eyes. “Can I finish before you interrupt? Thank you.”
You pause momentarily before speaking again.
“He’s stubborn. I’ve noticed that his demeanor changes when it depends on who he is with. He seems like a hardass and looks like he doesn’t want to be bothered, but he seems like a total softie when he’s with people he loves. Not to mention he’s hot...and tall. He’s blunt and straight to the point. He doesn’t bullshit at all. He’s really sweet as well, to me. He always goes out of his way to make sure I’m okay and how my day was. He just..he seems to care for me, and I feel the same way about him.”
Jean takes every word you say into consideration. He’s stubborn, it seems that he doesn’t like to be around people he doesn’t know but loves those he does know. He knows he’s hot. Practically every day he looks at himself in the mirror and thinks about how good he looks.
He’s blunt and straight to the point. He doesn’t bullshit at all. He’s really sweet as well, to me. He always goes out of his way to make sure I’m okay and how my day was. He just..he really seems to care for me, and I feel the same way about him.
Jean can feel his doubt and worry turn into happiness and confidence as you keep on ranting, to which he’s not fully paying attention anymore. He knows it's him. It has always been him.
No one else.
Jean likes you.
And you like Jean, that’s all there is to it.
“Do you want to tell him?”
“Yeah...” you trail off, scratching the nape of your neck. “I want to tell him on Friday after school. Do you think he’ll like me back?”
“I think he would. How could he not? He would be a total idiot to reject you.”
You hum at his reassurance, placing your hand on his, squeezing gently.
“Thanks, Jean.”
☽✧ ✦ ✧☾
Darling when I’m fast asleep
I've seen this person watching me
Saying, “Is it worth it? Is it worth it?”
Tell me, is it worth it?
Friday comes, and Jean can hardly wait for school to end. He’s not paying attention, his eyes constantly staring from the whiteboard in the front to the clock that tauntingly ticks slower than usual.
He bites down on the pink end of his pencil in anticipation, tapping his foot repeatedly on the floor, the noise resonating through the classroom.
Maybe I should just keep my eyes off the clock, he thinks, lowering his head back to the worksheet their teacher gave the class.
Econ class was a drag. He could care less about the differences in macro and microeconomics, the same with Communism and Capitalism. It’s just a bunch of words that don’t make sense to his brain.
This was one of the classes he didn’t have with you, the last class.
Instead of doing his worksheet (luckily, the teacher said it would be for homework if it wasn’t finished), Jean proceeded to think about ways he could tell you his feelings.
He could be old fashioned, tell you how much he adores you and how happy you make him feel when you’re around. How his heart can be heard from the outside of his body, how his hands got warm and clammy, maybe sweaty when he became too nervous.
Or
He could ask you out on a date. Take you somewhere, one of the places you’ve told him in the past that would make a great date for you. He smiles when he thinks about taking you downtown at night, looking at the soft lights that would brighten the streets; loving the sparkle in your orbs as you look around in awe.
He hums, pleased with himself when he figures out what he’ll do, scratching the back of his ear.
He wonders if you’re thinking the same thing.
-
You glance at your table partner, looking at his piece of paper before looking down at yours, displeased how his is able to look better than yours. You pick up your eraser, gently wiping the shadings away from your drawing, careful not to crease your paper.
“It’s not that hard you know, you just don’t know how to shade.”
“I know how to shade, Eren,” you reply with a huff, placing your eraser back down. “It’s just...this is a bit harder than usual.”
“All you have to do is follow the markings,” he presses the edge of his drawing pencil against the reference photo both of you are using, tracing the shape of it. “You could honestly just copy the photo, I doubt this woman would even notice.”
You chuckle at his choice of words, shifting in your seat to get comfortable. “I don’t think she would anyway. She just stares at it and calls it an A. I bet for our expressive project, she wouldn’t notice if we copied each other.”
He shakes his head with a smile, the loose strands of his hair swaying with his head movement. “No, she wouldn’t,” he rolls the sleeves of his hoodie to his elbows, grabbing his pencil again. “Then again, we are working on it with each other.”
“Speaking of that, what should we do?”
“Up to you, Y/N. I don’t mind. I’m just trying to pass this stupid class anyway.”
You relish in the silence between you as you gaze at him from your peripheral. You take notice how his hair frames his face effortlessly to the dip in his nose. It’s perfect how it forms to his cupid’s bow to his lips; not too big nor too small either. Just right.
You clear your throat, scratching at the nape of your neck. “Why not do...stages of love?”
That catches his interest.
“Stages of love?” he asks, moving in his chair to face you, a hand propping his head up. “Elaborate?”
“Like you know...how we gain a crush on someone. We like how they make us feel, and soon we think about them some more. Maybe make little scenarios in our head. Then we gain the crush and want to be around them. You know what I mean, right?”
He’s silent, hues that represent the blue of rivers, boring into your own. At first, you think he hates your idea, but then the corner of his lips curls into his infamous grin. “Yeah, I like that. Did you have anything else in mind?”
“Maybe...rejection?”
“Rejection?” he repeats, a bit shocked at how romantic your words were, to something filled with sadness. “And why would you want to do rejection?”
“W-Well,” you stutter, unsure how you should put it. “Everyone always talks about the good in love but never the bad. And I think it could be done good, you know?”
He hums, scratching away at his chin before nodding. “Yeah, alright. That sounds oddly specific, but I like it. We can honestly get started soon, that way, we can finish faster and not worry about it.”
His smile throws you for a loop, your face heating up as you pick up your pencil, trying to distract yourself.
“Say, Y/N?”
“Yes, Eren?” you reply a bit too quickly, cursing yourself out internally for sounding too desperate.
“Can we talk?” his cheeks are a shade of pink, his eyes averted as he plays with one of the strings of his hood, reminding you how a child would distract themselves. The tips of his shoe nudge against yours, barely kicking gently.
“Aren’t we talking right now?”
“No, I mean after school.”
☽✧ ✦ ✧☾
And in my eyes, there is a tiny dancer
Watching over me, he’s singing,
Jean storms out of his Econ class with a grin, hands gripping onto the straps of his backpack as he looks down one end of the hallway before going down the other direction. The art room was three classes down his. Usually, Jean will wait right there by the door for you since you take ages to finally leave the classroom.
When Jean finally reaches the room, he sees that the doors are locked, and the lights inside are off.
Huh, that’s weird, you’re always one of the last to leave, nor are you ever this early.
He stands there for a few more seconds, peering in through the small glass, and sees nothing before taking a step back and quickly continues to walk down the hall. His legs are quicker, going down the two flights of stairs.
His eyes frantically search for the yellow shirt you wore, unable to find you anywhere.
“Sasha!” he calls out once he reaches the end of the stairs, running towards the girl and their friend, who was at the lockers, pulling things she needed to take home for the weekend.
The brunette looks over her shoulder, stopping her conversation with Connie as she shuts her locker. “Yeah, Jean?”
He pants, leaning on his knees before letting out a deep breath and standing straight up. “Have you seen Y/N?”
She ponders for a while before shaking her head, looking over at Connie, who shakes his head, shrugging. “We haven’t seen her since Art class.”
“You didn’t see where she went at all?”
The events before class ending play in her mind before she gasps, snapping her fingers, pointing up at Jean. “Yeah, I know where she went!”
“...are you going to tell me, or am I going to have to guess?!”
She mocks him for a second before pulling her phone out. “I could have seen her leave with Eren. I think they went to the bench in the back. You know the one I’m talking about?”
He’s taken aback for a moment before shaking his head, retaining the information. “Alright, thanks.”
Why would you even be with Eren right now? You never meet with him after-
“Are we still on for this weekend?!” Connie yells when Jean is making his way down the corridor.
“Yeah, we are!” Jean's voice travels through the air, reaching both of his friends, hands clammy as they’re shoved in the front pocket of his pants.
The walk to the back courtyard was tiresome. His feet seemed to drag behind him, an aching feeling forming in his gut. Thoughts pounded against his skull repeatedly, trying to force him to stop. He wants to stop, but he has to go.
He has to tell you he loves you.
He can’t help but smile when you describe the boy you like this week. In his mind and most certainly his heart, he was the king of the world sitting on his high horse as he screamed in victory, letting the whole world know that the person he likes, feels the same way about him.
The fresh air from the outside meets his nostrils as he deeply inhales, allowing it to enter his body before exiting. The sun is the first thing he meets with as he exits the building, bringing a hand up to shield his eyes away from the harsh light. He mutters something under his breath as he looks around for a second.
“She’s a,
She’s a lady and I’m just a boy”
His honey orbs finally stop on a bench where you and Eren are seated, that’s not too far away, but his body is hidden from your view. He lets out a sigh of relief, leaves crunching underneath his feet as he walks, not taking long strides, rather walking slow to rethink what he’ll say.
“Y/N, I’ve liked you for a long...no,” he mutters, stopping in his tracks as he looks down at the green grass and leaves, kicking away at them. “I’ve loved- no, that sounds a bit aggressive, goddammit,” he groans, tugging at the roots of his hairs. “Why is this so fucking hard?!” he growls underneath his breath, leaning against the brick wall.
He never was anything else but honest with you. How could he say it?
What if this ruins your relationship?
...what if you liked Eren?
His breath hitches in his throat when realization dawns on him. His lips part, a soft exhale releasing from within him. His fingers curl around nothing, as if he was holding the air’s hand. The tips of his fingers shake, his whole body stiffening as he stares hard at nothing.
How could he be so stupid?
It all made sense now. How you stayed behind during lunch that one time without saying anything; in the back of his mind that day, he knew that someone had to be a boy, maybe a girl. Even then, you would always let him know.
Jean should have known from the beginning that you only saw him as a brother.
His chest aches as his vision goes blurry, biting down on the inside of his lip to the point where he can taste the bitter metallic on his tongue. He squeezes his eyes shut before opening, wishing he hadn’t at that moment.
He’s singing
“She’s a, she’s a lady and I am just a line without a hook.”
His heart breaks, stomach-dropping when he sees Eren’s hand brings you closer to his body, lips pressed up against yours; your hand placed on his cheek, cradling his face. Even from where he stands, he can sense the urgency in the kiss, how your bodies move together as one, how your fingers grip onto him like he’ll leave any moment.
His lower lip quivers for a second, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand, clearing his throat. Jean cranes his neck upward, looking at the sky, muttering the words, “Why him?” over and over like a mantra, no other words coming to mind.
When he closes his eyes, all he can see is you. Not Eren, just you. Those moments where you laugh, cry, or stay silent, those are the moments that flash in his head.
Did he do something to you? Was it something he said?
Did you ever like him at all?
“It’s pointless,” he whispers, pushing himself off the brick wall, immediately making a beeline for the doors. He swallows harshly, legs moving faster than ever, wanting to get out of this hell hole called reality.
Like every day, you’ll walk down the same pavement you’ve been walking on for years.
Only this time, he’s walking alone.
Oh, and if I could take it all back
I swear that I would pull you from the tide.

Confession in the moonlight | Gojou Satoru
Category: fluff
2.2k words; Hatsumoude date [6/6]
Happy New Year everyone!

Tumblr media
Bells and chatter are almost deafening even this late into the night. Families and friends are gathering here, mingling and pushing against each other in the narrow path leading up to the shrine. There are so many carts lined up on the sides, owners screaming their products and shouting over another.
And you're walking through the crowd with the one person who you want to avoid the most in the world.
Thanks to the event which is now dubbed "The Alcohol Incident That Can Never Happen Again", you learned about a couple of things in the following days.
First, alcohol is the enemy. This is ironclad and nothing will ever shift your opinion on it. Alcohol. Is. The. Enemy. None of it will ever touch your lips again.
Second, you discovered what type of a drunk you are. The clingy, bubbly one who has the misfortune of remembering practically everything that happened. Worst combination ever. Because your brain wants you to die from embarrassment. The only plus is that you don't feel like throwing up and you don't have headaches. Whatever Gojou fed you worked wonders.
Just thinking his name makes you want to slam your head into a wall.
Facing him again after that has proven to be a challenge. The memory of what happened on that day intrudes every time you see his face and then you have to take a break to calm down. Faking ignorance and acting as though you remember nothing from the night was your choice. Which was a bad choice since you’re not known for your acting skills and you also have the misfortune of wearing your heart on your sleeve. Which brings on the next problem.
Third, you… seem to have feelings for Gojou. The romantic kind. Like, the boyfriend-girlfriend kind. When you woke up the next day, it was probably the most clear your mind had been in months. Alcohol is a confusing drink. Still, you're never going to go near it again. Making a fool out of yourself once is enough.
Lastly, perhaps most importantly, you basically confessed to him. While drunk. And then went to sleep.
Tumblr media
Sitting up in bed the morning after, hair everywhere and jacket still on, you did an analysis.
It's like a typical light novel cliché. A guy and a girl, co-workers or something like that, comfortable with each other, hangs out all the time, one major event or couple of minor events happens, the girl falls in love with the guy or vice-versa, confession and then happy ending.
It all kind of made sense with your new, alcohol-cleaned brain. The fluttering feelings, the spike in heart rate, the uncontrollable blushing and noticing physical contact more. There’s a reason why he’s so comfortable to be around, why you practically entrusted your life in his hands. And you literally said to him once, you think in the movie theatre, that he would make a good boyfriend. To his face. Who says that? Embarrassment turns into self loathing. It makes you wonder how you didn’t notice it last time.
With this new shocking revelation, you didn’t know what to do. Confess? If there is even the slightest bit of chance he doesn’t like you back and rejects you, life will be hell to live. Because you live in the same goddamn place, work together and all of your friends are his friends.
So two options. Three outcomes. One: you confess and he accepts and everything is fine. Ideal. Two: you confess and he rejects you and so you leave the place, never come back again and work in a farm halfway across the world by changing your identity. That sounded reasonable enough. Three: you don’t confess and somehow act naturally around him. This has problems because, again, you wear your heart on your sleeve. It’s still very tempting. More so than the second one. This is perhaps the most difficult decision you’ve made in your life.
So you turned to the one person you can vent this kind of thing on. Shouko. Who looked at you like you were either stupid or dense. Maybe both. Definitely both. It was quite amazing what she could express while moving the least amount of facial muscles.
“So… yeah. I think I like Gojou and I don’t know which of the options I should take. Help me?”
She just stared at you. With a deadpan face that has all the stress and exasperation in the world. You pride yourself in being able to read other’s faces quite easily. Rubbing her fingers over her eyes and groaning for a bit, she eventually took her phone out and dialled a number. The line rang for a bit.
“Ijichi? You owe me 10,000 yen.” Clicking off the phone even before hearing a response, Shouko turned her focus back to you. “You seriously don’t know?”
“Don’t know what? What was the phone call about?”
“That he likes you? That’s he’s insufferable because of that? You seriously don’t know?” She inched closer and closer until her face was right in front of yours. Shouko is seriously scary when she’s angry, like a sleeping lion. And you just somehow poked her. “Look at me in the eyes. You seriously never realised?”
“Um, what?”
“The dates. Remember when I couldn’t go to the movie for Howl because someone came in? I immediately gave it to him because I owed him a favour and he wanted to spend time with you. The time he went shopping with you by flying. Do you know why he offered that in the first place?”
“I mean, it was getting late… And I was in a bad mood so— oh.”
“Yeah. Oh. Do you get it now?”
“So then… the dinner, that was also…”
“A date.” Sighing, she sits back on the sofa, letting her head drop onto the backrest. Thoughts jumble inside your head, all of them slowly clicking into place.
“Wait, so. He likes me?”
Annoyed moans are her response as she thuds her head into the furniture. Something along the lines of “Why me.” could be heard.
“So him inviting me to hatsumoude today is also a date?” Her hand waves lazily in the air.
“Yes, it is. Tell me you accepted.” You nodded, then realised that she can’t see from her position.
“I did. I can’t really say no to him.” She makes a gagging sound.
“Good. Finally. So just confess to him then. He’ll accept, you’ll be happy, he’ll be happy, and we’ll all finally be free.”
“Free of what.”
“Your denseness.” She snaps, sitting back up. Fire burns in her irises. “It’s like the Chinese story, the one with the shield and the spear. You’re the shield, oblivious to every single one of his advances and he’s the spear, never giving up. And we’re the spectators who are bored and tired. So dress up in your prettiest clothes and go.”
Tumblr media
And that’s why you’re walking up the steps to the shrine, swaddled in clothing. Gojou is right next to you, enjoying mochi he bought from somewhere and humming. He’s humming while you’re having one of the worst crises of your life. God, you envy his ability to keep cool.
Making every effort to keep calm and not look move your head in his general direction, you finally arrive at the bell. The sound resonates clearly into the night. Coins clink into the offering box. Two bows, two claps, pray, one bow. Your wish is the same as always, with one more sentence. Gojou copies you, mochi finished and trash discarded.
The way down is much easier, your heart a little lighter. Maybe the rest of the night will be fine.
This is a delusion and you realise it as soon as Gojou opens his mouth.
“What did you wish for?” His voice cuts through the commotion, nudging for your attention. You flinch a bit at the closeness but try to regain your composure. If he saw it, he doesn’t comment on it.
“I—I  wished for everyone I love to survive the fight with Sukuna and have a peaceful retirement. Especially Ken-chan.” In actuality, you did wish for that but also for a way to confess. He doesn’t need to know that yet. Your voice trembles a bit, betraying you.
“You do know that saying it out loud negates the wish right?” There’s a delighted tone in his voice, like he’s happy he baited you. How is a person this childish? And what does that say about you, the person who likes him? A hand ruffles your head before you have a chance to lament your heart. “Don’t worry. I’ll make sure your wish comes true.” Your heart thumps.
It’s so unfair how he always knows what to say. It’s so unfair that it’s having this kind of effect on you. Your earlobes grow hot and you scramble to find a reply.
“What did you wish for then?” He shifts his head to look at you. “Yeah, I know. It won’t come true if you say it out loud, but if you can protect everyone and save the human race, I’m sure it's not up to the gods or spirits whether or not your wish comes true.”
He seems to contemplate it. Then nods.
“Yeah, you’re right. It’s not up to them.”
“See? So what’s yo—”
“It’s up to you.”
You nearly trip over one of the stone tiles, flailing for balance. Of course Gojou comes to your rescue, hands gently gripping at your sides. The first problem here is that your reaction was too obvious. You can’t feign ignorance now, like you didn’t hear him over the crowd. The second is that you just made a fool of yourself. Which leads to the third problem.
He is way too close.
“You okay?” And now he’s whispering. The blushing worsens. “Come on, let’s go.”
It’s a clearing in the forest a bit away, a smaller dilapidated shrine on the edge of it. A small pond is in the middle, fireflies skimming over the surface and glimmering beautifully.
“There you go.” He guides you to the steps of the ruined shrine, letting you sit down but stays standing. Shifting on his feet, neck cracking as he rolls it. Nervous energy leaks out of him. Wait, is this—
“I don’t know what to say. I’ve rehearsed this like, hundreds of times but my heart is kind of going crazy.” So is yours. He comes back to you then lowers himself to one knee. Your heart stops. “I’m not proposing. Not yet. I’ve heard dating comes first.”
One of your hands slots into his. He removes his blindfold, revealing his cerulean eyes to you for the second time. Breath hitches and he most definitely heard it because his smile, no matter how tentative it was, becomes full and true.
“Let’s get to the main point straight away. I like you.” The words burn you alive and you try to take your hand back but his grip is strong. So you do the next best thing. Averting your face. “I know you do too. I also know you remember the night. Your acting skills are terrible. And Shouko told me.” If you’re not drowning in mortification and something that feels vaguely like hope, you might hit him. And Shouko.
But the second you face him, you see him. The heart-gripping worry in his eyes, the way he’s smiling to cover for his anxiousness, the light trembling in his fingers. It’s so different to his normal self, the aloof and laid-back aura completely dissipated. This is what you do to him?
“I’m not good at this. But I mean every word when I say that you’re the kindest, cutest and the most loveable person that I’ve ever met. You put up with me, and that’s saying a lot.” Protest is at the tip of your tongue, ready to argue that he should stop being so hard on himself and that you genuinely like spending time with him, but he recognises the look on your face and laughs delightedly. “See? So ready to come to my defence, even if it’s me you have to fight. Everyone’s fed up with me to some extent, and I know you are as well, but you still put up with me. That’s what made me fall for you. That unlimited kindness.”
He presses a kiss to the palm of your hand and it feels like he’s giving you his heart at the same time. Love shines in his eyes and clogs at your throat. A shuddering breath passes over the both of you. But then the cheeky smile comes back.
“I think that’s enough to sweep you off your feet. Is your heart beating fast?” A nod. “Hands clammy?” A nod. “Think you can manage granting me my wish?”
A wave of calm washes over. Gojou’s words, filled with sincerity and bare hearted emotions, turn into butterflies that travel to every inch in your body. It’s delightful and there’s no way you can live without hearing it again.
The distance between your lips close, and you swear your heart synchronises with his when they finally touch.

the unrequited love thing just bothers me so much. No-one had any issues seeing Cas/Hannah as a valid ship in the show when Cas wasn't even really interested in her. We've had a decade worth of romantic signals from Dean, but somehow destiel is unrequited. such a goddamn tragedy that they couldn't find their way back to each other one last time when that is their whole ~dynamic~
Yes, all of this. Exactly. Honestly, it’s been so frustrating to keep hearing the word unrequited thrown around so much lately. What about this dynamic has ever seemed unrequited? I’ve done this before but I’ve been really annoyed about it lately so should we make a list?
What about Dean feeling so personally betrayed by Cas in The Man Who Would Be King? Or Sam and Bobby walking on eggshells around Dean and taking care to very delicately approach bringing up the possibility of Cas doing something shady because they knew how hard Dean was going to take it? They knew it would be different for him than it would be for both of them.
Or how about Dean keeping Cas’ trenchcoat, and not only keeping it - he could have stashed it at Bobby’s or left it in the trunk of the Impala - but no he kept it with him, moved it from car to car. And this isn’t a last-minute development that they decided to throw into 7x17 when Cas returned, we see glimpses of the coat in other episodes before this, a consistent reminder that Dean’s carrying it around with him. That losing Cas is weighing on him.
How about Dean wondering why he could usually get over things but for some reason with Cas he couldn’t and he just didn’t know why.
For that matter...do you think there is anybody else that Dean would forgive for hurting Sam? For betraying him? Sure Dean is mad at Cas but more than anything he wanted to fix things. Despite everything, he needed Cas to be a part of his life.
How about that time Dean spent a year in purgatory looking for Cas, praying to him every night? In Dean’s mind, Sam is out there alone doing God knows what trying to get him back. I mean Sam didn’t, he’d let Dean go, but Dean assumed he was still looking. And yet Dean didn’t go back to Sam even though he could. He stayed for a year looking for Cas. Because he needed to. He needed him. Purgatory was pure remember? Dean had clarity there. He understood his wants, needs, and emotions.
Or you know just that one little thing about how Dean changed his own memories of what happened when he got separated from Cas because the thought of failing Cas was less painful than the idea that Cas would choose to stay in purgatory instead of leaving with him.
“We need you. I need you.” You know all about this one, I don’t need to say more.
The angels knowing exactly what would hurt Dean, knowing how much he cared about Cas and using that against him:
“The very touch of you corrupts. When Castiel first laid a hand on you in hell he was lost!”
“I know you’re hoping Castiel will return to you. I only wish that he felt the same way.”
Miriam: Bieber in there he can do almost anything. Dean: Anything? (and for the first time since Cas died we see Dean experience a moment of hope...and then...) Miriam: Oh sweetie, almost anything. Castiel he’s dead, all the way dead, because of you.
Dean staring wistfully at Cas through a Gas n Sip window for god knows how long. Actually you know what, that whole episode.
Cas being Dean’s Colette. That’s not subtext. You can argue with the execution, but the parallel was spelled out. And actually for that matter in Chuck’s drafts or alternate futures/ timelines or whatever that he was showing Sam, Dean was the one who was broken after losing Cas to the Mark of Cain, Dean was the one who had to bury him in Ma’lak box. Dean was the one who had to stop him. So I mean not only was Cas Dean’s Colette, but Dean was Cas’ Colette too.
Dean reacting very differently than Sam to Cas’ decision to say yes to Lucifer. Dean’s worry. Dean desperately calling out to Cas over and over again to try reach him and get him to eject Lucifer. Dean resisting Amara for Cas. Lucifer and Amara being very surprised by this. Amara using Cas to try to get to Dean.
Dean’s very different reactions to all things Cas in s12. This one would need it’s own post, but let’s just say there was a lot of focus on Dean and Cas in s12 and most of it was on how intensely Dean felt for Cas.
Dean made him a Led Zeppelin mixtape. And then proceeded to get mad at himself for letting Cas use it to come into his room and play him. Which isn’t exactly what happened (though it sort of is) but that’s exactly what went down from Dean’s perspective, and that kind of move would only work if Dean truly cared about Cas. Going into someone’s room and playing on their feelings for you by using a romantic gift they gave you, only works if that person has feelings for you that can be played with.
12x23. Sam having to pull Dean away from Cas at the rift because Dean was intent on chasing after Cas. Dean falling to his knees by Cas’ body unable and unwilling to think about anything else and leaving Sam to face the nephilim. Sam knowing better than to even try to move Dean.
Widower arc. I would elaborate but do I need to?
And finally all of their arc in s15. No part of that was one sided.
I actually can’t believe we have to keep having this conversation. Before it seemed like we kept having to somehow “prove” there was a romantic element to Dean and Cas’ relationship. Now that they have explicitly stated in canon that there is, the conversation seems to have shifted to how it’s one sided. Look I’m as frustrated as anyone that Dean didn’t get to say anything, but we never considered their relationship one sided before. That’s certainly not what I saw in the show.  Dude pines after his totes str8 bro friend who’s not into him is not a story I would have had any interest in. Looking at that long list above does it seem like it was one sided?
Whatever Cas felt for Dean, Dean felt it too. This has never seemed like a one sided narrative. Like you said just because the last page of the story was ripped out/wasn’t written (ie whatever you think went down) it doesn’t invalidate years upon years of consistent relationship building and emotional growth. Their story is incomplete not erased.
(And in relation to the Cas and Hannah of it all, a while back I did get curious and look that up, and you’re right. People had no problem with thinking of Cas and Hannah as romantic - when she was played by Erica Carroll. When Hannah returned in a male vessel, both Misha and the new actor Lee Majdoub played their relationship exactly the same way, the same heart eyes, the same gentle touches and soft spoken appreciation, but no one seemed to want to discuss Cas and Hannah’s romantic connection anymore. For reasons. Whatever could they be? I’m putting this in brackets though because I don’t have the sources on that and I have no intention of trawling through reddit/entertainment review sites/wherever I checked last time to find them. I do not have that in me. So there’s a chance I could be mistaken and people did discuss it, in which case I’d love to be proven wrong. Anyway that’s why this point is just at the end in brackets)
