Someone save me! I'm working in a house that smells off, and it's making me nauseous.
I stopped working with them due to the fact they allowed their dog to piss and shit everywhere, its been about a year since I stopped working with them. I'm only back because I yearn for the cash. 😓
I want to be home and cook something.

"Lauren! It's so good to see you again." Soap gets up from his seat and hugs me, before sitting back down. I take the spot next to Alejandro, on the edge of the soft couch everyone's sitting on. "Why did the two of you arrive this late?"
"They were busy fucking." Rudy laughs, clearly had a few drinks already.
"Fucki- Wait, what? I thought you-" The Scot looks confused at my boyfriends and back to me.
"Rudy didn't wanna join this time because he preferred hanging out with the squad." Alejandro sits back and pulls me back too, makes me relax.
"I still don't get it."
"She's our girlfriend since a few weeks."
"What? Really? That took you this long?" Ghost exclaims. "Over five years! The poor girl."
"Yes, but Ale didn't waste a second to get her pregnant."
The guys' jaws drop while looking at me shocked.
"When did that happen?" Even Price is flustered by the news.
"Eh, six weeks ago. We got crazy drunk and had a threesome. It was good."
"That's enough information, Rudy!" I try to keep him from blurting out more details about that night.
"And here I was, not believing in miracles until now." Ghost pulls his mask up and sips from his drink. We all laugh. "It's my turn to get drinks. What do you want, Bonnie?" Soap stretches his arms before walking around the table.
"Sparkling ice tea." I love a fizzy soda.
"Alejandro?"
"The same."
"Go drink, I'll drive us home." I encourage him.
"I don't mind not drinking, cariño (darling)." He smiles when he sees my serious face. "Fino (Fine), I'll start with a beer then."
"Gotcha." Soap goes to the bar to order all of us a drink.
"Are you sure you're okay with driving?"
"Yes, I wouldn't have offered it if I wasn't. I can't drink anyway." I ensure him with my hand on his thigh. He puts his hand on mine as response. "Where's Kyle?" It took me this long to notice he's not here.
"At base, had a bad jet lag and wanted to sleep it off."
"Poor guy, I'll bring him some breakfast in the morning."
"Us too!" Soap is still close enough to hear me.
"Someone missed my cooking."
"Abso-fucking-lutely! Three months in between each time is way too long!"
"I'll make you plenty of Mexican food the next few weeks, okay?"
"Por favor." He pleas in a clear Scottish accent.
"Anything you want." I take my glass of ice tea from the tray he put on the table. "Thanks." He also has something non-alcoholic, is probably the one driving too. "Kyle!" I'm happy to see him out and about. "How are you feeling now?"
"Great, slept like a baby." His eyes trail to the food that I've been preparing for the past hour.
"You must be starving." I know he hasn't eaten since arriving here yesterday evening.
"Big time."
"Good, I made lunch for the others too." I lay more of the burritos I just made on a plate on the tray and before I can grab it to take it to the gym, where the others are practicing, Kyle gets a hold of it.
"Let me take it." With a smile on his face he walks away and I follow him with the jug of fruit agua frescas, fresh fruit water, I made earlier. It's ice cold now, the tastiest way to drink it. We enter the gym and everyone looks up to us. Kyle places the tray on the table in the room and I put down the jug of fruitwater.
"Bonnie, you're fuckin' amazing! I'm starvin'!" Soap grabs one of the burritos from the pile on the tray and immediately stuffs his face. "So good. Can't believe these two haven't married you yet." He mumbles with a full mouth while he sits down on one of the benches. Ghost finishes throwing his stack of knives, hitting the dummy a few times in his chest and straight between the eyes on the last throw. Rudy and Alejandro are also done with the target practice and the three men grab their lunch. Price makes his way over from the fitness machines. Soap has already emptied his plate when Price thanks me while he grabs his.
"You're still hungry, aren't you?"
"Uhm, maybe.." The guilt is visible in his eyes.
"I'll make some more for everyone, just in case there are more hungry men."
"You gotta feed six hungry men now, instead of two." Kyle laughs.
"Thank god it's only for a few weeks." I joke back while leaving the room. I don't mind it at all to make food for the six of them. It's great that these weeks of training together have been going on for over four years now. They're staying for three weeks to train and practice together. That happens three times a year. They alternate every four months. So one year 141 comes here in the winter and the next year in the hot summer. Rudy and Alejandro always complain about the cold winters in the UK and the Task Force guys always complain about the hot summers here in Mexico. Besides that, they all look forward for weeks before the collaborations actually happen. I don't know if I will join Rudy and Alejandro in going to the UK in four months. I'll be pregnant for seven months when we return here. But I also don't want to be without them for multiple weeks. What a dilemma, I have to think about that for a while. "Did you already eat something, babygirl?" Rudy asks when I put the tray with more burritos on the table, for everyone to grab more if they want.
"I tasted some of the filling while cooking, but still feel a bit too sick to eat more."
"Take care of yourself, princesa, you already passed out this morning."
"I'll try some bread when I feel less nauseous." Thinking about having to eat something makes me gag and I put a hand on my mouth.
"Take it easy when you need to."
"I will. Don't worry too much about me."
"Go home early today." He kisses my forehead and goes back to the others who are still enjoying the food and drinks. It's a joy to see all these hungry men go to town on the food I prepared.
Soap walks over to me with another three burritos on his plate. "Lauren, will you please cook flautas for me somewhere in the next three weeks? Or maybe posole or carne guisada?"
"I'll make everything you want before you leave, Johnny."
"You're the best, Lau. Those guys are crazy for not marrying you on the spot." He laughs and infects me with it too.
"I'm sure we will be in a few years." "Go have a rest, cariño (darling), you have been showing off your cooking skills way too much today." Alejandro tells me with a smile on his face.
"It tasted good, though."
"Of course, I taught you." He proudly smiles. My jaw drops, I can't believe my ears.
"The audacity! You better be inviting them for dinner tonight."
"Doll, you've passed out twice now. I'm not letting you push yourself even more than you already did today." He sees my facial expression change and sighs. "I'll invite them for tomorrow's dinner if you promise me to take it easy until then."
"Fine, I'll behave."
"Good girl." After a kiss, he walks back to his patrol car but doesn't get in yet. "But without kidding, you need to rest. I'll come check on you later tonight." After waiting for both cars to drive out of the street, I close the front door of the apartment complex and go upstairs, to my house, for a warm shower.

Week 7 update
According to my app were currently at 7 weeks, 4 days! Not much note worthy has happened since my first update, got some appointments booked for next week so will maybe have more news by next weekend, but for now, the little updates so far are:
My tolerance levels for sweets has been drastically reducing. Treats I found enjoyable before have quickly gotten old after a few bites and just been too sweet. Been craving lots of savoury things, especially meats, breads, and cheeses. Ate like half a tray of shepherds pie on my own over a span of like 48 hours. Made a sandwhich the other night that had honey smoked turkey and melty cheese on naan, folded over like a taco and filled with pickle spears. It was really good. Haven't had any weird cravings but the cravings are certainly starting
Have had some morning sickness since like week 3 or 4 probably, but so far it's been mostly just not being able to eat food and variable appetite and some nausea, but no upchuck... Till today that is. My brother's in town and we were getting ready for a big family brunch, and my dad was frying up a very large skillet of bacon since we had so many people. Now I've never been a fan of bacon but I've never had the smell even bother my stomach a little. But one moment I was fine, the next I was holding on to the kitchen sink for dear life, and then not a minute later I was feeling so much better and ready for breakfast with the family. My parents were both asking why I was feeling sick, hoping to tell them once we have the all clear from the specialist, which should be by maybe next weekend.
Have had insomnia on and off probably since week 5 or so? And it's struck again, with it being almost 10 am and I haven't slept yet. Our dog had a big surgery day before yesterday so night before last he was crying a lot and kept me up most of the night and really messed up my sleep schedule, so it'll take a few days to sort that out again at least. Training in advance I guess lol.
That's all I can think of right now, other than I've just been exhausted still and often need naps to get through a day.
I'm going to try to remember to do weekly updates? But my memory was shite even before pregnancy so no guarantees lol

I think this is one of the most active days I've had in a long time. Slept in an hour & got up at 8, made a quick breakfast shake and did the dishes. Then got a shower and relaxed for an hour or two before heading up to my favorite Mexican food place for a breakfast burrito. Came back home to enjoy my burrito and watch a few youtube vids before pops got home. Talked with him for a few minutes before heading out to run errands.
Started out with a stop at the gas station to air up the airbag (my suburban is lowered & has a helper bag to keep it from riding on the bumpstops in the rear lol) and also to check the pressure in my tires since the rear was feeling a little soft on turns. Tires were fine, I think I just should've gotten the better quality ones when I got tires over the summer because these ones have zero traction on launch even with nearly-new tread.
Got back on the road and I went out to the comic shop I've been playing D&D at the last couple months. I've been having an absolute blast with my Tiefling Bard, but wanted to pick up some supplemental books for more options. So, I got Tasha's Cauldron of Everything and Xanthar's Guide to Everything. Also scoped out their graphic novel section since I've been slowly working through the 90s X-Men, X-Factor, & X-Force reboot. They've been releasing it in the Epic Collection format and I've got a few I haven't been able to read because I don't have the second X-Force book. The shop didn't have what I was looking for, but they did have the next X-Factor book and the X of Swords collection, both of which I've had my eye on. All in all, a great stop at the comic shop and a big step out of my bubble.
From there, I hit up Wal Mart. Partly just to walk around a bit (need to work on my stamina now that my knees & back are better) but also to check the Hot Wheels. lol Unfortunately, they had moved everything around and if they had any of the premium Hot Wheels, I couldn't find them. So, I left and ran by the bank to get rent money. Got there just in time too, as it was packed behind me.
Wasn't quite ready to head home yet, so I went on a short drive through downtown. Listened to my deathcore/death metal playlist (titled Osmium lol). I'm really looking forward to Chelsea Grin's new album next week. Had a nice, chill time with the heater up but a window cracked for some crisp, cold air. Decided on the fly to stop into the dispensary and get some edibles & a couple pre-rolls. Got two of this awesome watermelon gummy that is super mellow and a pair of "Fancy Girl" pre-rolls. Never had that strain before, but I couldn't say no to that name. lol Might even empty one into one of my fancy cones so I can be a true Fancy Girl.
After a couple hours going all across town (and even outside it! :O), it was time to head back home. Grabbed a quick bite on the way back and now I've been chilling & reading through Tasha's and Xanthar's, trying to figure out what to do as I reach level 4. And, in case it isn't obvious, the edible kicked in about halfway through writing this. lol So I'm doing fantastic atm. :3

Beelzebub's Very Bad No Good Day
Tumblr media
***So this is the new format in which I'll be answering requests. In my experience, actual posts get spread further than asks do, so this will hopefully help with that. ANYWAY, I am crazy excited about this request as a major Beel simp and YES I will proudly do this request! Thank you @sinnoman for blessing me with it. -B*** Summary: Beel doesn't get anything to eat one day, and it doesn't go well for anybody.
From the moment Beelzebub woke up, he knew that today was going to be a terrible day. For starters, he had apparently raided the fridge in his sleep the night before, so there was not a crumb left in the house for anyone to make breakfast with. Most of the others had gone and grabbed something from Hell's Kitchen on their way to class, but poor Beel had slept through his alarm due to the food coma his nighttime snack had put him in and had to rush to RAD. The entire school was talking about the monster that they believed had awoken beneath the school. Teachers were on edge ready to evacuate the premises for the earthquake they believed to be happening. Beel avoided eye contact, blushing as his empty stomach continued to rumble and roar throughout the day. He ended up eating a few pencils just to get it to quiet down and even that didn't have much effect. The Avatar of Gluttony nearly cried tears of relief when the lunch bell rang. But it seemed that fate was not his friend that day. He was going to order a gargantuan-sized Little Devil mango slushy, a side of Hellfire curry rice, fried shadow bat, and 108 seed salad and the main course of at least twenty shadow hog burgers with three servings of caramel shadow tart for dessert. Beel was drooling at just the thought of it. He was almost at the ordering station when he felt a hand on his shoulder. Beel growled and turned around, baring his teeth at whoever dared to disturb him.
Belphegor narrowed his eyebrows in concern. "Woah. Beel, relax. It's just me. We've got a student council meeting, and Lucifer has threatened to take away supper from whoever skips out." Beelzebub scoffed as the air around him darkened at the mention of someone taking food away from him. "I'd like to see him try." Belphie raised an eyebrow at his twin's uncharacteristically grumpy behaviour. "Are you alright, Beel?" As though to answer his question, Beel's stomach let out another loud roar, causing several students to flinch and Beel to scowl in frustration. "I'm hungry." Belphie's frown deepened. Beel was always hungry, but he didn't usually let it get to him like this. The younger twin rifled through his own bag before pulling out an obviously full paper bag. "You can have my lunch if you want. I ate a little bit of it during class and swiped a bagel from Mammon during the first period, so I'm not all that-" Before he could finish Beel ripped the bag out of Belphie's hands and devoured it, bag and all. Belphie blinked at his now empty hand and chuckled as Beel chewed. "Man, you must be starving huh?"
Beelzebub merely grunted and continued to chew before swallowing down the small meal. He glanced back at the lineup in the cafeteria and put a hand on his stomach as he thought about the lunch he should be enjoying. Belphie nudged him. "Come on, big guy. We got to get to that meeting. The sooner we get it over with, the more likely it is that we'll end early and you might be able to grab something before class starts again." Only the meeting was not short and quick like Belphie had said it might be. Diavolo wanted everyone to come up with an idea for a school fundraiser, and Lucifer was arguing with Asmodeus on what was and was not appropriate. To make matters worse, you were unable to attend as, according to Mammon, your charms professor had asked you to stay behind afterwards to discuss your progress in the class. The bickering on top of the lack of food in his stomach was giving Beel a migraine and the longer he sat there, the more irritable he had become. Eventually, it became too much and he snapped. "ENOUGH!" he bellowed, flipping the table as he stood. "No one cares about the stupid fundraiser anyway and you're just wasting all of our time arguing over something that will inevitably fall apart and cause an even bigger mess, just like it always does!" "Beelzebub! Watch your tone in front of-" "Shut it, Lucifer!" his brother's gaped at him in shock as he snarled at their elder. "I am sick and tired of you pushing us all around and punishing us when the slightest thing goes wrong just because you-" Beel poked Lucifer's chest hard enough to make him take a step back, "won't take responsibility for your own mistakes!" "Oh shit," Mammon whispered under his breath, as Lucifer's eyes narrowed and his body tensed in defence. The second-born quickly squeezed his way between the two of them and spread his arms to try and create some distance. "Okay! Tensions are high. People are upset. But this is not the place to brawl it out." he glanced over at Lucifer who looked like he was a second away from stringing him up to the ceiling. "Might I remind ya Lord Diavolo is still in the room?" Lucifer looked over at Diavolo, who appeared to be both hurt and concerned by Beelzebub's words, before sighing and fixing his composure. He gave Beel a hard look. "Obviously something is upsetting you, but we can discuss this at home. For the time being, I recommend you work on calming yourself and clearing your head." Beel just growled at him before stomping out of the student council room. He had been about to re-enter the cafeteria again when the bell rang signalling the end of lunch hour. Beelzebub felt his eye twitch before his demon form burst into existence. He let out a deafening scream as he grabbed a table and threw it across the room (students still seated on it, included). Students were yelling and scrambling like mice as the large demon rampaged through the halls. He tore the locked grate off of the serving station and grabbed the nearest server by the scruff of the collar, causing them to squeak in fear. "I'm hungry," Beel rumbled lowly as the demon trembled in his hands. "Get me something to eat now or I will not hesitate to eat you." "R-R-Right away, Beelzeb-b-bub." Beel carelessly dropped the demon, who scattered off to gather as much food as they could. He began pacing like a caged animal. Having been alerted by all the noise, his brothers and Diavolo rushed into the nearly destroyed cafeteria. Diavolo's jaw dropped. "Beelzebub, what's the meaning of all this?" Beel's famished brain didn't acknowledge Diavolo as an authority at the moment. Instead, he was yet another person trying to keep him from eating. "I need food. NOW!" Lucifer's eyes widened in realization as he whispered something to Diavolo. The prince nodded and took a step back. "I'm sure the cooks are doing all they can to get you food right away. But I need you to control yourself before I am forced to take action." Satan had his phone out and was urgently texting someone, as Belphie moved forward.
"You'll get your food shortly Beel. You just need to wai-" "I don't want to wait!!" There was a part of Beelzebub's brain that was aware he was acting like a child. But his stomach physically hurt from how empty it was. He was tired. He was starving. He didn't have the patience for pleasantries. "I've barely eaten anything all day, and people keep staring and talking about me because my stomach just will not stop growling and I'm so hungry that I can barely think straight! I hate it! But I know it won't go away unless I eat, so I NEED TO EAT!" The brothers looked at Beel in shock. They knew that he ate a lot, but they always passed it off as just another quirk that made him Beel. They didn't know it bothered him like this. They thought back on all the instances where Beel had stated that he was hungry out of nowhere, always with a distressed look on his face. Every single time they had brushed him off. Before any of them could respond, you casually walked into the war zone that was the cafeteria. "Alright Satan, what's so urgent that you needed me so badly?" The room fell quiet as everyone's attention snapped over to you and you took in the situation. It didn't take long for you to connect the dots.
You immediately began to rush over to Beelzebub; Mammon stepped forward to stop you. "Woah, MC! I don't think that's a good idea right now!"
You ignored him and continued to make your way to Beel. Seeing you, the small human that you were, made Beel realize just how reckless he had been acting. He held out his hands to stop you and took a step away. "You should listen to Mammon, MC. I-I haven't eaten all day and I-" "You haven't eaten all day?! Oh god, this is worst than I thought." Beel watched as you slid the oversized backpack that he had seen you carry around RAD with you every day off your back and begin to dump out the contents. In a second, dozens of bags of chips, candy, fruits, and other snacks spilled across the floor in front of the two of you. Beel didn't waste a single moment. He instantly began consuming the snacks, causing you to smile happily. "Wha-What?! MC?! Why the hell do you have that much food on ya?!" Mammon sputtered as he cautiously began to approach you. You shrugged. "Beel gets upset when he's hungry, and I don't like it when he's upset. So I stocked up on some of his favourite snacks a while back and always keep them on me just in case," Beel paused his eating to look up at you in awe, "He can't help that he's always hungry. It's not like he asked to be the Avatar of Gluttony." Suddenly there were a pair of arms wrapped around your waist. Lucifer, Levi, and Mammon called out your name as Beel pulled you tightly against his chest. You just grinned and hugged the friendly giant back. "Thank you," he whispered softly into your hair, his arms tightening around you just a little more. "There's nothing to thank me for." As Beel finally began to calm down, the cooks came out with platters of food and shakily laid them out around you and Beel before taking cover back into the kitchen. Seeing that the threat had passed, the other brothers began to approach as well. "You know Beel, I didn't know you had that much pent-up anger inside of you. It was terrifying!" Asmodeus chirped as he plopped down beside the two of you.
"Yeah! You were just like the antagonist in My Boyfriend Turned Into a Cannabilistic Rage Monster, And Now I Have to Stop Him From Devouring The Whole City!!!" Levi began to ramble about specific scenes from the show that matched perfectly with Beel's rampage, causing Beel to blush as he munched on a burger. Belphie sighed and elbowed Beel as he took his seat at his side. "We'll have to make sure that MC's always around you. Just in case you know?" he smiled softly, before looking at his twin with a more serious expression. "You should've told me about all that stuff you said earlier. I had no idea you felt that away about your appetite." Beel looked away uncomfortably as he took another bite of his food and avoided the question. You snuggled closer to him, to provide him with some comfort. Satan tapped his chin as he watched the group. "I'm sure we could talk with Barbatos and come up with some sort of high-protein shake or bar that would better satisfy you. That way you wouldn't have to eat as much." Lucifer glanced over at Diavolo, silently asking if it was a possibility. The prince smiled warmly. "I'll have Barabatos begin working on something right away." Forgetting all about class and the anger that had previously consumed him, Beel looked around at his family. A warm feeling blossomed in his stomach as he felt content with the rare care and affection that they were openly showing. Maybe it had something to do with the thirty burgers he had already ate, but for just a second, Beel didn't feel so hungry anymore. ***Boy that got a little angsty there for a second, but I hope this was to your liking @sinnoman! I definitely enjoyed writing this one, and I think it made me fall in love with my boy Beel even more 🥰*** TAGLIST: @vampwiire @bunna-does-stuff

Beelzebub's Valentine's Day Letter To His S/O
Valentine's Day Letter Event Masterlist (CLOSED)
Pairing: Beelzebub x Gn!Reader
Warnings: none
Genre: Fluff
Post-Type: Letter
Word Count: 380
Summary: In which your boyfriend, Beel hands you a letter for Valentine's Day inviting you to bake with him.
[A/N: Annnnnd here's your second letter. I know it's a little short, but I'm running out of creativity atm. I still think it came out pretty good though. THIS IS OFFICIALLY MY LAST LETTER for this event. I can't believe I finished them all. I've been editing these for the last 14 hours (with some breaks,) but I'm glad I finished them all now instead of leaving some for tomorrow (it's already tomorrow, but I haven't slept yet so that doesn't count). I hope you enjoy this letter!]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beel loomed over you with his hand outstretched, handing you a piece of paper.
“What’s this?”
“A letter for you. Please read it,” he smiles, looking at you with anticipation like a happy puppy.
You’re a little embarrassed reading it in front of him, but you read it anyway;
To My Baby,
Happy first Valentine's Day! I couldn’t be happier to be with someone like you MC, so thank you for loving me. I love having someone around who understands me and gives me something other than food to focus on. I love you more than any meal out there MC c:.
As for why I’m writing this letter…I’m a little embarrassed to be asking you, but I wanted to bake something special for you, and I tried, but I ate it before I had a chance to show it to you :c. I was wondering if maybe you’d like to come bake with me? I know you love to bake and I could use your skill along with your help in keeping me under control; I tend to not feel so uncontrollably hungry when you’re around. I have the perfect recipe so it’s already set, I’m just waiting for your answer. So, what do you think, wanna bake something with me?”
Love,
Beelzebub.
You finish reading and look up at Beel who’s already looking down at you with puppy eyes.
“Please,” he pleads.
“Beel, you don’t even have to ask, I’d be more than happy to bake something with you. Food makes you happy and I love spending time with you, so it’s a win-win situation.”
“You make me happier,” he smiles, petting your head with shining eyes.
That caught you off guard, causing your face to go hot as you looked at the ground.
“You can’t just say something like that out of the blue. I’m still not used to it,” you mumble, “But thank you.”
He laughs before taking your hand and leading you over to the kitchen, “Let’s go.”
You both have a blast spending time together even if it was a little hard controlling Beel’s hunger; you end up feeding him a few snacks to get him to avoid eating the baked sweets. It was a memorable Valentine’s Day for sure.

23 days of NCT masterlist.

warnings: drunk y/n, this isn’t my best work so bear with me.
Tumblr media
“Would it be too hard to focus on your work for once?” You huffed in annoyance, tapping his notebook with your pen.
“Yeah.” His hand rested on top of his palm, attentively looking at you with a child-like smile. “When will you agree to go out with me?”
“I've already told you a million times I'm not interested.” Your fingers angrily moved over your laptop’s keyboard.
“Give me a good reason.”
“You’re a player.”
“I don't do that anymore!” You hummed, eyes scanning the screen of your computer. “Let me take you out once, if you still don't like me afterward I'll stop insisting.” It sounded tempting, but he’d probably use some kind of trick to get you in bed.
“I'll pass.”
After picking up your things, you exited the library with him following closely behind. A high pitched voice stopped your walk, a girl approaching your project partner with a wide smile.
“I haven't seen you in ages!” She clung to his neck, the simple action setting off a small fire inside you. “You should come by my house someday.”
“I-I...” Lucas stuttered, looking in your direction only to see your back as you walked away from them. “I’m sorry, I need to go.”
It wasn't long until he was walking beside you once again. You rolled your eyes.
“Don’t you have anything better to do than following me around?”
“Not really. And who knows, maybe if we spend enough time together you'll end up liking me.” He laced your arms, not allowing get rid of his hold.
“As if.”
A few days later, Lucas showed up in front of your class with a colorful bouquet of your favorite flowers. ‘How did he even know?’ You looked at him with horror as your classmates started gathering around you, collectively gasping at his antics.
“Wait, don't run!” He chased after you while you tried to escape the expectant gaze of everyone. “Y/n!”
“Why don't you just give up?” He grabbed your open hand, closing it around the bouquet.
“Here, I thought about you when I saw them. They seemed like your style.” You looked at him expectantly, waiting for an answer to your previous question. “I simply like you, y/n. I don’t have another explanation to it.”
“Why me?”
“Why not you?” You clenched your fist around the bouquet, your other hand flying to grip his wrist harshly. “Huh?”
“You’re taking me out for dinner.” You said, hoping a date would finally put an end to his advances.
Four hours and three vodkas later, you found yourself sitting on Lucas’ lap, who had an amused, yet worried look on his face as you repeatedly tried to kiss him.
“Stop” hiccup. “Avoiding me.”
The pout on your lips was the most adorable thing he’d ever seen, which made him even more protective over your drunken self.
“I’m taking you home, give me your address.” He whispered softly, hand rubbing your back.
“I want to spend more time with you.”
He gave up after a few minutes of insisting, deciding it was better to take you to a hotel so you could rest. But how wrong was he. As soon as you entered the room, you started stripping off your clothes, Lucas having to forcefully put you to bed before you ended up completely naked. He picked up the clothes you left behind, neatly folding them and placing them on top of a chair.
“Lucas.” You whine for what seemed like the hundredth time in the night, struggling under the beddings that he’d tightly wrapped around you. “Please.”
“Go to sleep, y/n.” He murmured, tiredly rubbing his eyes. “I’ll take the floor, so please, close your eyes.”
“I will if you give me a kiss.”
“Can’t you settle for a hug?” There was a small, goofy grin creeping up his lips. “Fine.” He gave up as your face remained stoic.
You closed your eyes, waiting for his lips to touch yours, but it never happened. Instead, he kissed your temple, smiling at you before using his palm to close your eyes.
(...)
Little did you know you’d wake up in an unknown bed, head sore from drinking too much the night before and most of your memories missing. You were tucked inside the bedsheets wearing nothing but your undergarments.
“Shit.” Your head darted up, scanning the hotel room you were currently in. There was no sign of Lucas, whom you assumed had taken you there.
Did he take advantage of your intoxicated state? Had he deliberately offered you to drink? Thousands of questions ran through your mind, the booze from last night making your memory blurry.
You found your clothes neatly folded over a wooden chair. Had you done that before sleeping with Lucas? Had you even slept with Lucas?
“Agh.” You whined, screaming into a pillow, frustrated at your lack of memory.
He’d probably left after getting what he wanted from you. How stupid you were for thinking nothing would happen over a small date. Just as you were about to start crying, a loud beep echoed around the room, the door opening to reveal Lucas carrying your and his breakfast.
“Thank god, I thought you were in a coma.” He mocked, carrying the food all the way to the table under your confused gaze.
“What happened yesterday?”
“We didn’t fuck if that’s what you’re asking.” He smirked, enjoying your flustered expression a little too much. “You did try to get into my pants, though. But don’t worry, I tucked you in before you did something you’d regret later.”
“Did I strip off my clothes?”
“As I said, you were really needy last night.” You groaned, letting your head fall into the pillow. “Get up before your coffee gets cold.”
“Don’t boss me around.” Still, you got up from bed, the bedsheets wrapped tightly around your body to cover.
You changed back into your clothes, joining Lucas on the small table to have breakfast. He got you a white mocha along with a chicken sandwich, your favorites. Where did he even get the information on what you liked?
“So...you still don't like me?” This was it, your chance to get rid of your annoying project partner. But why didn't the thought sound so tempting as it did a few days ago?
“I think I'll need another date, just to make sure.”
“Are you sure you can keep it in your pants next time?” You kicked his leg under the table. “Ouch!”
“I suggest you stop talking before you lose all the points you gained with me last night.”
“So I gained points?” He looked at you curiously.
“Shut up already.”

In another life, in another time

Dialogue prompt- 27. what happened to us ? Part - 25 | part 31 coming soon |
TW- HEAVY ANGST | Amnesia | Sorry In advance..
Perhaps in another life, In another time, We'd be together.
The beats thumped louder, the footsteps dissolved somewhere in the big building. Harsh breaths leaving Harry's lips could be hear by anyone sitting besides him, he was grieving perhaps or breathing as a task to stay alive for a mere few seconds, even if he wasn't dying, a part of him was slowly approaching senescence, at least that's what he felt.
And finally he saw the healer's coming out talking to each other, whispering in low tone. He could sense the bad news by the way their faces expressed but he held onto a little hope. Just a little.
" Mr. Potter ?" One of the Healer approached harry as the other one's left offering him a sympathetic smile.
"H-he's fine, he is, right?" His voice came out in tremble with trying to control his trembling hands by his sides.
" he's fine " the healer pressed his lip in a thin line before adding " but -"
" no please. No Buts-"
" I'm sorry Mr. Potter. He- draco have suffered some rare oblivation spell. I'm sorry harry, draco have amnesia, anterograde or retrograde, we're not sure of it as of now "
__________________________________
" I'm very glad we were Able to summon you mr. Potter " the healer offered harry a little smile as he pointed the chair in front of the desk to be attempted.
Harry hummed as he sat down on the chair, Shaking.
" I'm going to ask this as a friend harry, when was the last time you slept ?" He huffed.
Harry leaned back over the chair uncomfortably, gulping " I don't know " he grunted
" harry- y- you have to understand what I'm trying to tell you, alright ?" The healer asked. Harry nodded in soft lazy motions, yawning.
After supposedly half an hour, he walked out, every corner of his mind filled with unblinking thoughts. Draco didn't remember harry, he only remembered parts of harry that seemed much like a dream to him and there seemed little hope that he would but the Healer had suggested harry to try again, after unsuccessful attempts and practically forcing draco to remember him. This time harry was to need to a strategy to help draco remember thing's and the only way to it was by storing away his memories.
He passed by draco's ward watching him look outside the window, sitting on the edge of the bed, all alone. Harry wanted to go inside, try once again but he was sure by his previous Attempts he had scared off draco and harry was probably the last person he wanted to see as of now.
Heavy hearted harry walked home drenching himself in rain unknowningly, thoughts of draco brimming his mind to care about anything else.
" you'll have to try but you have to remember harry, he doesn't remember any part of your relationship and he might not even remember you forgiving him. You'll have to start from scratch. If you want him back harry you need do "
He opened the door to his apartment, memories of theirs of cooking on the kitchen, cuddling in the couch, laughing and throwing at pillows at each other, smiling at each other from across the hall, making out against the wall, all of it lingered in the background as a television show not ready to stop but harry didn't raise an eye as he walked into the shower and sat down with clothes on and remained there, numbness invading his senses until Ron had came to visit harry and had forced him out of the shower, helping him get dried up.
" I know it's hard harry, but he doesn't remember you "
" but we've been together for 5 years, he must remember something, anything ?"
" I'm not sure how but during the time of attack draco might've been trying to conceal his memories of you but instead of locking them away, he might've exposed them. In attempts to conceal them, he gave the attacker entrance to it and he possibly have forgotten everything about the relationship "
" how long were you in the shower for ?" Harry suddenly was broken out of numbness, finding Ron putting food over table.
" when did you came here ?" Harry only asked.
Ron looked at in little shock at harry before he sighed, letting it pass " I got you out of the cold shower "
Harry nodded, watching the food presented before him.
" from the looks of it, you met the healer today, didn't you ?" Ron asked. Harry looked up but didn't answer. He didn't know how to. He wasn't sure he could answer even.
" harry, It's been days. If you can't forget him, don't let him. His entire memory isn't blocked. You can try-"
" I've tried Ron but I gave the love of my life an almost panic attack in Trying to make him remember me " harry yelled
Ron startled and saw harry break down in front of him over the kitchen table, " I miss him, ron, he's here but I miss him "
" you have to try this time more patiently harry. If you want him back, you have to " Ron rubbed Harry's back as he hugged him.
" I- I don't know how to ron. It's hard " harry sobbed
"something is better than nothing. Try harry. Trying Is the only hope you've gotten "
_____________________________
Harry shook his hands by his side violently, trying to shake off his anxiety and practiced deep breaths beforehand he knocked on the door.
" come in " he heard.. harry let out a deep breath before he plastered a smile and finally walked through the door.
" hi " harry waved awkwardly
" you " draco raised an eyebrow at harry. Harry closed his eyes, remembering why he is doing this.
" I was wondering if we could talk about the other day ?" Harry asked not moving a step forward
" haven't you done enough " draco rolled his eyes.
Harry swallowed " I- I just wanted to apologise "
" for which part exactly ? The yelling at me like a baboon or basically causing me a panic attack "
" both " harry sighed " listen, I don't think you understand how hard this is for me-"
" hard for you ? I'm the one who doesn't remember people, I've lost chunk of memories and it's hard for you" draco narrowed his eyes at harry
" I- I understand but you see- well it's not as same as you- but-" but harry couldn't go on. He couldn't and draco only waited for him to go on. He didn't.
" you know what it doesn't matter. Let me reintroduce myself, Hi I'm harry potter, I'm your used to be arch nemesis and i- we- well I'd like to be friends with you "
" friends with me? Like my days have became that had that I'd be friends with you potter!? " Draco Airily laughed " no thanks I'm fine "
If only draco knew what he had done, if he only knew. Harry couldn't stand it. He thought he could but he couldn't. He ran out into the washroom and let his burying feelings evade, breaking into heavy sobs. He couldn't do it. Not when he knew Draco didn't remember anything, that he didn't remember harry.
________________________________
" where did you ran to yesterday ?" Draco asked as harry fetched him water today
" I- I had Somewhere to be " harry cleared his throat as he gave him the glass of water.
" it was weird. You asked me to be your friend, then you ran and yet here you are again. There's something weird about you Potter-"
" harry, please " it hurt even to think of how draco didn't know what he was doing by calling him potter.
" it's weird. I've always called you potter, It'd be weird to call you by your first name. Besides I don't think we are on first name basis " draco shrugged his shoulders as he watched harry leaned against the wall, fumbling with the zip of his jacket.
" right, I forgot "
" weird, you're not the one who have amnesia.. you are acting strange you know that. Pretty weird " draco frowned
" it- well we used to be to- friends. We were friends so it's just weird how now you call me potter when I'm used to being harry for you "
"still weird. I mean I at least remember being with people, but you, no recollections as if we were never even friends. Hope you're not lying potter " draco casually said.
Harry exhaled deeply, tears forming at the brim of his eyes " it's alright. You can call me potter until we become friend's "
" why are you so persistent on being friends with me ? I thought you hated me ?" Draco curiously asked.
" because " harry couldn't go on. He couldn't.
" you need to start finishing your sentences potter " draco raised his eyebrows at harry mockingly.
Harry hummed and just stood there watching draco flip pages of a magazine until Draco asked him to leave. Harry did. He had no other option.
__________________________________
" you didn't come yesterday ?" Draco asked one day, watching harry knit a sweater for him..
" I- I had something " he lied. He was lying in bed haunted by draco visiting his dreams, sitting on an empty date table at their 6th anniversary, day they were supposed to move in together, eating draco's favourite dish, all by himself.
" not very nice of you skip a night if you're trying to be friends " draco teased. Harry looked up at Draco with a small smile before he went back to knitting.
Draco observed harry as if he was a blank canvas waiting to be drawed upon, his glance curious. Draco would be lying to himself if he said that he wasn't curious about why harry was the only one so persistent about being friends, as if there were greater reasons but no matter how hard he tried to remember, he only remembered him apologizing to him after war, and nothing else.
" do you not sleep at all or those dark circles are just fashion ?" Draco asked
"I- have trouble sleeping " harry replied, pressing his lips in a thin line.
" you can sleep around here if you want to you know.. It'll be a secret" he cared. Draco cared and it only offered false hope to harry, one he should've been very much aware of not to fall into trap to.
" I'll keep that in mind " for the first time harry offered draco a warming smile before he began knitting again and draco absent-mindedly flipped pages of magazine again.
________________________________
" wow- such a grand celebration " draco laughed as he saw his friends come in with cakes and balloons
" since you couldn't celebrate your half birthday as you always do, we thought we'd bring it to you " pansy chimed.
Draco laughed and started singing along with them as they sang the birthday song, making draco happier than he had felt in days. And in even so everything, he couldn't stop thinking about harry standing in the background, then walking out in the Middle. Hermione followed him outside and from what draco saw, it seemed like she was hugging him, trying to probably comfort him, but before he Could've stared any longer, pansy forced him to cut the cake.
Something felt missing, there was and it Haunted draco to think of what it was. There was no one more hurt by the fact that he couldn't remember even when he tried so hard. He knew there was something missing, he could feel it, he just didn't know what and for whatever reason, it felt it was related to harry.
" y- that necklace " draco had pointed out at Harry's neck when he was helping draco with adjusting his pillows.
" that-"
" it's yours " harry smiled lightly, helping Draco lean backwards.
" how? How do you have it ?"he asked curiously.
" you gifted it to me, don't you remem- " harry stopped himself.
" you gifted it to me. You can have it back if you want " harry offered as he hesitantly reached his neck to unlock it but draco stopped him.
" it's fine. Keep it. Feels like it holds much meaning to you than to me " draco replied.
Harry gazed at draco softly before he pressed a small kiss on his forehead " it does " harry whispered and left, like a dying wind.
Draco played with the ring on his finger for a larger part of the night, haunted by the fact again that harry had different motives. He Could sense it but the more he tried to think, the more he felt as though he was stepping away, more he was forgetting and it ached draco. He knew it, he felt it but he was too Afraid. He was afraid of hurting even if he didn't know what he'd even do.
________________________________
" harry, stop this " one day draco abruptly said while harry was helping With last of draco's bandages
" what? What do you mean ?" Harry asked puzzled
Draco breathed in deeply, gulping, preparing himself to drop the bomb " stop taking care of me, stop trying to do whatever it is you're trying to do, can't you see it already, it's not- it's not what you want "
Harry looked at Draco as the pained expression found his face and he softly whispered " you don't know what this means, do you ?"
Draco shook his head painfully denying.
Harry gave him a sad smile as he sat down on the chair next to draco's bed, his head dropping, a single tear dripping down his eye.
" to you it's just me trying to be friends with you but it's so much more than that. It's more than about just being friends for me " harry whispered.
" it Always have been so much more than that. Yet I've been holding onto the hope all along but -"
" I don't remember " draco finished his sentence somehow knowing harry was about to say that.
" stop doing it to yourself harry " draco sympathetically said
" I- can't. I -"
" you have to " draco raised his voice
" can't you see it, I can't. Do you even realise how much it pains me to see you everyday on the bed, holding onto one single ray of hope that you'll remember. But you, remember nothing. 6 years of memories , gone just like that. You don't get to say any of it draco, you're living it painfully, I walk in everyday to an Empty apartment, crying myself to sleep in just one hope that you'll remember-"
" but that's the thing, I will not harry. i can't and i won't " draco interjected loudly.
" I will not remember harry. Stop hurting yourself " draco whimpered.
Harry looked only once at Draco " I know " before his whispers Turned into sobs and harry was shaking with the pain.
Draco tried to comfort harry, rubbing his back, trying to tell him it's alright but he knew it provided no solace. It didn't mend his broken heart when he was the one causing his heart to break in little fragile fractions of glasses until it was scattered across everywhere.
" I pretended it didn't hurt, but it does. It does so much that I can't even sleep at night" harry whimpered as he hugged draco. Draco rested his chin on top of Harry's head, rubbing circles over his back, providing any comfort he could offer.
They remained like that for several moments until Harry's breathing came to normal and draco finally broke the silence with a painful statment " what happened to us?"
It wasn't a question, it was a statement, a grief to offer, a way to express sorrow, to visit pain. It was to offer solace that draco too regretted and harry knew he did. It was a way of saying that when they expected cherish and Making more memories, living together, waking up next to each other, instead they were fighting through, waking up in hospital bed, grieving on lost memories. Where life landed them.
" I have got to go " harry finally said, Breaking from the little hug.
Draco looked at harry only for a moment before he kissed harry in pity of being unable to give everything to harry he had once promised him and that left him in tears again.
Harry broke free crying, desperately trying to conceal his whines.
" I'm sorry harry, I really am " draco's eyes prickled with tears as the moon danced over them in the late night..
Harry stood there in silence for several moments, packing away the memories,. storing away draco somewhere he'd only visit in dreams until it was time to finally leave and he reluctantly walked towards the door..
" I'd like if we can be friends harry.. " draco offered.
Harry turned around, giving draco a small smile " I'd rather not have you at all than only for a few, draco "
" perhaps in another life, I'm another time we'd be together and neither of us would forget "
And harry walked away, coldness settling in as draco long stared at the doorframe.
I swear I'm sorry. ( Thanks to Tom Odell for putting me in feels )

Never Alone Again
Chapter 2: Me, Myself, and My Ghostly Roommate
"Hey Chris, mind if I ask you something?"
Kitsune questioned, setting the small boxes of food on her kitchen counter. It was quite a lot of food, so she'd definitely have leftovers. Not that she minded of course- Chinese food was always one of her favorites. Chris, meanwhile, floated overhead.
"But of course, go right ahead." He responded.
"So like... This is a bit of a weird question, but can you eat? Since you're dead and all?" The young woman asked, taking out a paper plate and putting a decent amount of food on it.
"I mean, I don't have to, but I can. I figured that out not long after I became a ghost. I accidentally scared off a teenager, and he left some pretzels behind." Chris explained.
"Pfft- that's pretty funny. How'd you do that?" Kitsune questioned, amused at the thought.
"I believe I accidentally knocked something over. He didn't actually see me, though. He just ran off- probably assumed I was a malevolent spirit." Chris explained, watching as Kitsune sat at the table that was just a few feet away from the kitchen island. He flew closer, sitting on the countertop.
"I'm honestly rather surprised you weren't that scared of me when we first met." He commented, to which Kitsune shrugged. "I mean, you definitely startled me, but then you were extremely polite. I think I'll like having you around, Chris." She smiled at him.
"Oh, I could most definitely say the same!" Chris responded. "As I said, I've been rather lonely lately. And not having any memories of who I was wasn't helping in the slightest. Why, I can't even remember anything my family and I did. I can barely remember their faces..." He said, humming in thought.
"It's quite strange, though... My family never really smiled much, from what I can remember." He remarked.
Kitsune hummed, looking over at him. "Your family didn't smile much?" She repeated.
"No, not that I know of. Or at least, I think they haven't. It's all rather blurry, but I do faintly remember them frowning... Before they died, they looked... scared..." Chris explained, shaking his head. "But, well, I'm sure they're in a better place... I don't quite know why I'm stuck here as a ghost, but... It's fine. I met you, after all." He added.
The redhead smiled softly, finding him quite endearing. It was evident he didn't like thinking about the apparent murder of his family and himself, but that wasn't a surprise. She doubted she'd be happy if she had to remember something like that. Still, he did raise a pretty interesting question.
Why did he become a ghost, but the rest of his family didn't?
Deciding it'd be best to worry about the matter at a later date, Kitsune finished up her food. After putting the leftover food in the fridge, she started heading for the stairs before she paused. "Oh- Chris?" She spoke up.
"Hm?" Chris hummed in response. "Do you sleep?" Kitsune asked. The question came to mind since she was going to bed, and she'd feel bad if he was just left alone for eight hours.
"Oh- yes, I do actually! I slept quite a bit when I first woke up like this." The ghost responded, following her up the steps. "Alright, that's good to know. Where do you typically sleep?" Kitsune asked, stopping in front of her room.
"Ah, usually my own room out of habit." Chris responded, before looking at Kitsune's bedroom door. "And would you look at that- you picked my sister's!" He pointed out.
"Huh, that's pretty interesting..." Kitsune mumbled. "Anyways, I'll see you tomorrow. Goodnight, Chris." She said, walking into the room. She smiled as Chris gave a cheerful "Goodnight, Kitsune!" in response.
Upon walking onto the bed, she fell face first onto it. She was quite tired, to say the least. It had been a long day, and she hadn't even unpacked yet. But of course, she intended to do that tomorrow. Sighing contently, she got under the covers and closed her eyes. She was definitely gonna like it here, that was for sure. The house was beautiful and quiet, and she heard wonderful things about the people in the quaint little town.
And to top it all off, she got a very interesting and polite roommate.

Platonic Hearts (Donghun)
Tumblr media
Title: Platonic Hearts
Pairing: Donghun x Reader
Genre: Fluff; Friends to lovers
Word count: 3,132
Writer: Kpopmadness (Ju)
"Why are you mixing the coffee like that?" Donghun asks his female co-worker and best friend as she mixes an iced coffee drink for a customer.
"Because there's no rules on how to mix coffee." She answers with a teasing wink.
"I trained you better than this." Donghun says with a shake of his head, leaning his back against the counter behind him as he looked down at her as she continued making the coffee.
She hums in response and finishes making the drink before handing it to the customer. She wipes her hands off on her black apron and looks Donghun in the eyes with a sweet smile.
"But you did teach me everything I know."
She had started working at the local coffee shop two years ago. Donghun being the one that oversaw her and taught her how to make the drinks properly. The pair had become very close quickly, their personalities very similar but just different enough to keep them guessing. Since she had started working there the two had started going to each others apartments often. Every week almost. Staying late into the night until the other retired to their bedroom and the other slept on the couch, too tired to go home.
They became best friends that everyone mistook for a couple. Donghun often played with her low ponytail and rested his chin on her shoulder, the 'affection' keeping creepy guys off her back. She did the same by resting her head against his chest when she was tired or by playing with his fingers as they talked closely. Both of them successfully warding off the unwanted attention and drama of a romantic relationship.
The pair continued the work day until the last customer was happily saw to and the street lights of the busy city chimed on. Illuminating the sidewalks and roads. The rest of the co-workers bid each other good night, the shop going quiet as Donghun and her finished wiping down counters before Donghun could lock the shop up to go home. The manager of the building trusting him with the responsibility.
She was wiping down a dark counter top that had a cleaning solution sprayed onto the surface when Donghun walked up beside her after having put chairs up for the night.
"What are you doing tonight?" He asked, watching her work.
She let out a small hum, thinking over if she had anything scheduled that night. "Nothing." She answered honestly. "What about you?"
Donghun took an extra rag and helped her wipe down the counter as he said, "I don't have anything planned. I was wondering if you wanted to come over and we could finish watching that drama we started last week."
"The one you said ends sad?” She whines with a pout.
Donghun grins at her, having seen the drama before but wanting to watch it with her so he had someone to talk about it with.
"It's worth watching." He says.
She lets out a huff but smiles at him despite herself. "Who's cooking?"
"I can."
She scrunches up her face at him in disgust, making him narrow his eyes at her.
"I'm a better cook than you. You can't even cook an egg." He playfully jabs, tossing his dirty rag at her.
She laughs and catches the rag before it hits her in the face. "Fine, you cook. But if you burn the food again we're ordering pizza."
They finish cleaning up the place before taking their aprons off to hang up for the night. Donghun locks up the shop and she follows him back to his place. She teases Donghun relentlessly as he cooks dinner, reminding him again and again not to burn it.
The two sat side by side on the couch as the drama played out on the screen, both of them talking back and forth about what was happening and making fun of characters. After eating dinner she rests her head against his shoulder, something they were both used to. His hand rested on her knee as they continued watching their show and talking. Donghun's cat, Hae, padding her way up to lay between them as she slept.
Midnight rolled around quickly. She fell asleep on Donghun's shoulder and he could feel his own eyes struggling to remain open, his shoulder numb from the weight of her head. He shut the TV off and gently woke her up so he could pull a lever in the couch to turn it into a bed. She quickly flopped down on it and fell asleep again almost instantly. Donghun shaking his head at her as he covered her with a blanket before retiring to his bedroom, Hae right behind him.
`````
2 weeks later:
"You don't have to take their order." Donghun tells her as she goes to grab her notebook and pen to wait on the four boys sitting at a booth by the window.
She gives him a sideways grin as she starts walking past him. "I can handle your friends. They've been in here plenty of times for me to know what they're like."
Donghun walks her as she heads for their table, all four heads turning toward her and grinning widely. She says something that makes them all laugh and the nerves in Donghun's stomach lessen. His friends would never be mean to her, that wasn't what he was worried about. It was the hard time they would give him later.
She comes back shaking her head with a smile tugging at her lips.
"I love them." She tells him as she goes to make their orders. Leaving Donghun with his mouth open feeling speechless.
She finishes making the four drinks brimming over with whipped cream and sets them on a tray when Donghun takes the tray from her.
"I'll take it from here." He tells her, making her nod as she goes off to busy herself elsewhere.
Donghun walks up to his friends and sets the tray down in the middle of the table, all eyes going to him.
"You still haven't asked her out yet, have you?" His friend, Jun, says with a playful smirk.
"No, and I'm not going to." Donghun snaps as he sits down by Chan. "We're just friends, I've told you guys this."
"Sure doesn't seem like it." Seyoon mumbles under his breath before taking a swig of coffee.
Donghun glares at him and opens his mouth to give a retort when Byeongkwan interrupts him.
"How long have you guys been friends again?"
"Two years."
"And you bought her a necklace with your initials on it, because?..."
Donghun sits back in his chair speechless. He had gone to his friends for help with picking out a gold necklace for her a few weeks ago, as a surprise.
"I can't get my friends gifts?"
Jun shakes his head, the rest of the members exchanging looks between each other. Clearly enjoying this too much.
"We didn't say that." Jun replies calmly. "But it is a bit strong when you get a girl a gold necklace with your initials engraved on the pendant."
"And she hasn't taken it off since you gave it to her." Chan points out.
Donghun glares around the table before turning to look at her. She stood behind the counter restocking items, not paying attention to them. The gold pendant laid perfectly on her chest with the initials L.D on it. He had never noticed that she had worn it everyday since he purchased it for her. He had bought it for her just as a way of saying he appreciated her as his best friend, to thank her for all the times they had shared together. He had never thought it to mean more than that.
More customers started to flood in, rush hour upon them. Donghun lets out a sigh, dismissing his thoughts as he moves to go back to work.
"Just think about what we said." Seyoon calls after him. "She handles you well and cares a lot for you. You would be missing out on a good thing if you let her pass by.
Donghun pauses briefly, his shoulders tensing at Seyoon's words. It takes him a moment to snap out of it before he can join her behind the counter to help her take orders and make drinks. Long after his friends leave, their words haunt him and spin around in his head for the remainder of the day. Making him stare at her much longer than he usually did.
"Why do you keep staring at me, Donghun?" She asks him after she catches his dark eyes on her for the millionth time in the past hour.
Donghun shakes his head, feeling stupid. "Sorry, I was just thinking."
"You seem like you've been thinking a lot since you saw your friends." She observes.
Donghun winces, he was hoping he hadn't been that obvious. But he had apparently been very bad at hiding his state.
"I was just wondering," He says slowly, not sure how to put what he needed to ask. "Why have you worn the necklace I gave you so much?"
She tilts her head, puzzled by his question. "Because I really like it? I've never been much for jewelry but I really like this necklace. Plus it's not cheap. I can put it on and leave it and be reminded of you."
Donghun stays quiet, their eyes staying locked much longer than they ever had before. She feels her face heat up, the thought crossing her mind that he would kiss her.
"Right." Donghun says weakly, not knowing what else to say so he just turns on his heel and distracts himself with work. Leaving her to feel confused.
````
8 weeks later;
Since that day, things were awkward between the two for a few days. Both unsure what to do. But they quickly snapped out of it and went back to their ruthless teasing and watching movies together every week. And she continued to wear his necklace everyday no matter what.
"Hey, sweetheart, you still haven't taken my order." A man close to her age called at her from across the counter. A smirk tugging at his lips, his voice sultry.
She felt her shoulders tense but forced a pleasant smile on her lips as she walked up to him. She hadn't had a man hit on her in a long time, she wasn't used to someone being this bold.
"What can I get you?" She asks politely, trying to avoid eye contact with him.
"You can get me your number for a start." He winks, making an angry heat pulse through her body. Thankfully, seconds later he says his order, giving her a chance to get away and compose herself.
She goes back with his coffee and slides it across the counter. The man grabs her wrist and holds it gently, keeping her in place. His touch shocking her.
"Leaving so soon?" He says with a cocky smirk.
She opens her mouth to say something, her face feeling hot with a mixture of anger and embarrassment.
"She has work to finish and then she's with me." A deep voice says from behind her, his hands resting on either side of her, caging her in. He takes one of his hands to pull her wrist free of the man and holds it in his own. Relief flooding her.
"Is he giving you trouble, princess?" Donghun asks her, tucking a piece of hair behind her ears.
The man quickly takes his things and leaves without saying another word. All the colour drained from his face. She lets out a sigh of relief and chuckles.
"Did he hurt you?" Donghun asks her, still behind her. His breath in her ear as he speaks.
She feels her heart flutter, which it had never done with Donghun before. "No, I'm okay." She replies shakily. "Thank you for saving me."
"Anytime." He says.
Before he can stop himself, Donghun presses his lips to her bare shoulder. The action making his lips tingle pleasantly but heat rush through his body. She lets out a small gasp and turns to look at him, her eyes wide. They stare at each other for several seconds, the world around them falling away.
She's the first to break the silence between them. "We'll just pretend that didn't happen."
Donghun straightens and pulls away from her, giving her space to exit. "Yeah, it was an accident." He says, clearing his throat even though there was nothing there.
She quickly brushes past him, hurrying off to do something else. Her face red and her legs shaking so bad they almost couldn't carry her.
`````
3 weeks later
The next few weeks were agony, working together became almost painfully awkward after Donghun had kissed her shoulder. No matter how much she scrubbed on the spot, she could feel the phantom touch of his lips. Making her face heat up every time. They hadn't talked about it. And they hadn't hung out since then.
It was all Donghun could do to walk up to her after work, his throat dry when it usually wasn't with her. "What are you doing later tonight?" He asked.
She met his eyes, seeming surprised he was talking to her. "Nothing. Did you have something in mind?"
"I was thinking you could come over for a movie." He says, straightening his back and trying to keep the nerves he felt out of his usually steady voice. "There's no reason we should let what happened a few weeks ago ruin our friendship."
Donghun let a smirk cross his lips as the next words left his mouth. "Besides, I've missed your horrible cooking."
She rolls her eyes and lets out a laugh, one that he hadn't realized how much he had missed. "Alright." She said, smiling at him like old times. "Your on. I'll meet you at your place tonight and try out a new recipe just to annoy you."
Donghun rolls his eyes at her but still chuckles. Feeling a rush of excitement go through him at the thought of her coming over to his place later.
She showed up at his doorstep two hours later, letting herself in without even knocking like everything was normal and the kissing incident hadn't even happened. She gave him a hard time as she cooked dinner. The two of them talking while she cooked, Donghun sat at the kitchen table and kept her company.
She surprised herself with dinner, it actually turning out really good. Even surprising Donghun. They went to their usual spots on the couch to start a movie. Donghun picking out a romantic comedy. Soon it got late, her head rested on his shoulder like always. Both feeling safe and comfortable.
"We should get some sleep." Donghun whispers against her forehead as he turns the TV off.
She lets out a yawn and stands up to turn his couch into a bed, knowing the routine by heart. Donghun goes to put the dishes in the sink to wash in the morning, she sits down on the makeshift bed. She feels a strange pull toward him, a pull to be close to him again. But she shoves it down and forces a smile when he appears again.
"Do you need anything?" He asks, running his fingers through his dark hair.
She shakes her head, "No, I'm okay. Goodnight."
"Goodnight." Donghun answers through a yawn, slowly making his way down the hall to his bedroom.
She watches him leave, his bedroom door closing before she leans her head back against the couch and stares up at the ceiling. Several emotions at once plaguing her. She had sat there half the night with her head on his shoulder, the action used to mean nothing, now she wasn't so sure. She fiddles with the necklace around her neck, feeling the pendant between her fingers. Goosebumps rose as she thought about his lips on her shoulder. Even though that had happened weeks ago, she still failed to erase it from her mind.
Her body seemed to move on its own as she made her way down to his room, her hands shaking only slightly as she opened the door slowly. Donghun was sat up in bed reading a book, the light on his nightstand illuminating his features. He looks up from his book and sees her peeking in his bedroom door, her being there surprising him.
"What's wrong?" He asks, seeing how nervous she looked.
She went and sat down beside him, her heart practically in her throat. "Can you do something for me?" She asks.
Donghun nods and sits up. Waiting patiently for her request.
"Close your eyes." She says quietly, feeling her heart pound faster.
"Why?" Donghun asks, giving her a puzzled look.
"Please?" She pleads gently, feeling too nervous to explain herself or what she was about to do.
Donghun gives her a lingering questioning look but obeys and shuts his eyes. She stares at his face for a moment, admiring his features before leaning in and pressing her lips to his gently. Donghun freezes, going still as a statue. She keeps her lips pressed against his, afraid to move them. She slowly pulls away, meeting his eyes.
They both stare at each other for several seconds, both just trying to process the silent confession. Donghun is the first to break the silence and cups her face with his hands, his face inches from hers.
"Are you sure?" He whispers, his heart threatening to burst.
She stares into his eyes, seeing more love there than she had ever seen someone show toward her. She had been blind to it for years. She rests her hands on his chest, feeling his heart beat wildly against his rib cage.
"I'm sure." She whispers back.
That was all Donghun needed to hear before his lips crashed into hers. His mouth encasing hers, making her breath deeply. Her taste and touch something Donghun didn't know he had wanted desperately. She gently bites his lower lip, making him suck in a breath before sliding his hands down to her thighs to bring her into his lap. He pressed her lower back until she was flush against him, every inhale and exhale she took he was able to feel.
Her hands run through his hair after they pull away. A goofy grin on their faces. Donghun slides down in bed further, covering her up with the blankets until they were both comfortable. She rested on top of him with her face nuzzled into his neck and her fingers woven through his hair while he traced patterns on her lower back. Both of them talking to each other softly about their true feelings until they fell asleep.
Last Morning Alone
Written for Blackinnon Week 2021
This is the first fic I've ever written so I hope everyone likes it. I also haven't re-read or edited it because I just wanted to get something out there for the week so I do apologize for any mistakes or weird wordings. I have another blackinnon story for blackinnon week but this week has been unexpectedly busy so it might not get written during the actual week.
Last Morning Alone
Marlene was beautiful when she slept, or at least he thought so. Watching her sleep was one of his favorite things to do. The war had taken its toll on him and he didn’t sleep much so he was always up earlier than her. He would wake from his minimal sleep and turn to look down at her and just think “holy shit.” This morning was no different. If he had known it would be their last day and night alone together he night have done things differently, made love to her, made she knew how much she and she alone meant to him but he didn’t so he just watched with silent adoration.
Marlene hated that he watched her. She knew it wasn’t her best look. Marlene slept like a bear in winter, she always had. He used to tease her about falling asleep all over the castle. Sirius thought Marlene was beautiful when she slept. She looked so peaceful. Ok so maybe peaceful wasn’t the right word. She was sprawled out on her back, hands above her head, mouth wide open with a little drool. He was just happy she was sleeping, she had been having trouble the past few weeks. Marlene normally slept on her stomach, mouth closed and that’s when she was peaceful, undisturbed, like a bear in winter. But she could no longer sleep on her stomach, not with the rather large now bump that was holding his most precious little boy or girl. So she slept on her back mouth open with loud snores. A particularly loud and harsh snore pulled him from his inner monologue. She had woke herself up. Stretching her arms up and blinking a few times she came too, seeing Sirius watching her.
She hated that he watched her. She looked over and there he was just like any other morning, smiling that same stupid grin that she fell in love with. She wanted to be mad and fuss at him but she was really too tired and her back hurt. Besides it never worked because there was no real anger behind the words.
“Whatcha you looking at?”
“Some girl I brought home from a bar once and she just can’t take a hint, she just won’t leave”
Marlene let out a laugh at that. “Oh yeah, see I remember some guy practically begging me to go home with him, look where that got me” She said gesturing to the bump giggling.
Sirius rolled his eyes but reached over and pulled her closer. “Any day now you know”
“I know, believe me I literally can’t forget”
“Your back?”
Marlene just nodded and snuggled closer but Sirius was already starting to shift them so that she was sitting in front of him and he could rub he back.
These were the moments Marlene loved. Just the two of them, when he would do something so sweet without prompting. Had you asked her a few years ago if she ever saw womanizer playboy Sirius Black rubbing his wife’s back because their unborn child was making hard to sleep she would have laughed and hard. If you had asked her if she was going to be said wife she would had told you that was just impossible because she was never going to fall in love with Sirius Black. Although deep down she knew that was a lie, it had been a lie since second year but she would never admit that to anyone, not herself, and definitely not him.
“What do you want for breakfast, I think we might have some eggs” Sirius didn’t sound very confident in this statement.
“You know we’re about to have a kid, we really need to get better at stocking the pantry and stop ordering take-out”
“No” Sirius whined “This kid cant take Foo Lin’s from me, babes everyone says we have to stay true to who we are before the baby came. Look at James, He wouldn’t even get a beer with me last me week”
“Take-out and going to bars are two very different things, so I think your Foo Lin’s is safe. Besides James didn’t go out because the next morning was Harry’s first day at pre-school and you boys went out the week before.” Marlene looked back at him
“Well I’ll go check on the egg situation and you can just have a lie in” With a quick kiss, too short for his liking but he heard her stomach growl he was out the door. Returning just a few minutes later, a sheepish smile on his face.
“We’re out aren’t we?” Marlene groaned, she really was hungry.
“Bakery on 7th?”
The suggestion was music to her ears. Her whole face lit up. She hoped from the bed with a newfound energy and began waddling around to get ready to leave. Sirius just laughed at his wife’s antics. If you had asked him a few years ago if he would be a mix of excitement and nerves for a baby on the way, he would have laughed and hard. If you would have told him that the mother of his child would be spitfire Marlene McKinnon he would have called you crazy. Although he had known he was in love with her since the first moment he saw her talking to James on the platform September 1st before first year, before he knew what either of them would mean to him but he was never going to admit that to anyone but her.
He quickly dressed and helped her put on her shoes. A routine that perfected, her refusing to ask for help and attempting to reach down or bend them up to her and eventually pretending to get distracted with the paper and sit down while he would put them on without a word about it. After a satisfactory amount of time she would pretend she was done with the paper and walk to the door.
“Marlene…”
She had almost made it out the door
“Hmm” Marlene would hum pretending she didn’t know what he was about to say
“Don’t you think you’re forgetting something”
“Oh sorry babes!” She leaned gave him a hearty kiss hoping to distracted him from his original thought. It had almost worked, I mean who could blame him, his wife was hot if she wanted a snog he couldn’t refuse a pregnant women. It had almost worked. Almost.
Pulling away he softened his face “Marls…”
Huffing she reluctantly sighed out a “fineee” and held her arms up. Still as stubborn as always
Sirius began to bundle her up, a heavy coat, a scarf, and topping it off with a beanie and quick kiss to her forehead.
Rolling her eyes but still leaning her head in so he could kiss it she huffed once more as he wrapped his arms around her shoulders and they exited the flat.
“You know you’re the one who keeps bring up how we shouldn’t change because of the baby and yet you treat me like I will break at the slightest chill. I’m a Scott for sakes, we can handle this London ‘fall’…. Weak city boys” Mumbling the last bit under her breath.
Sirius just listened and nodded knowing she wasn’t truly upset. I mean she was carrying precious cargo, she was precious cargo so yeah he was going to keep it up. They continued to walk to the bakery. It was a nice morning, not too cold and he had probably over done the layers but too late now.
They had entered warmth of the bakery. She was so happy to smell the blueberry muffins. Marlene kept rocking on her heels, antsy to order and get some food.
“Finally…” she mumbled and was quick to order her muffin and a coffee.
“Marlene…”
“Fine. Change the coffee to a decafe”
“Marlene…” She was eight months pregnant, he didn’t think he was being unreasonable.
“Foo Lin’s, Sirius. And its small” She turned around to pay with a satisfied smirk. Marlene knew the threat of no more take out would shut him right up.
They began the walk home, her happily munching on a muffin and his arm slung over her shoulder. As they rounded a corner he felt a splash. They stopped and he began inspecting himself wiping the wet area on the bottom of his pants
“Marlene, did you spill your coffee?” She had stopped a few feet behind him as he walked forward.
“Marlene?” He turned around expecting her to be crying. This had happened before, she would spill a drink or food and just burst into tears but he turned around and she was just standing there wide eyed and panicked.
“Sirius, that wasn’t my coffee…”
Sirius could see the wet all down her pants and it all clicked it was happening, it was really happening. He quickly closed the distance between them scooping her up and jogging as smoothly as possible to St. Mungo’s
Regulus Michael Black was born 13 hours later.
Remus?
Hey. *awkward wave whose momentum very slowly dies* I…didn't bring a plushie this time, sorry, I—it's just—I could make one later, but I just finished dealing with something awful for today and I…may…need a hug? *momentarily inaudible tone* This is it, I quit talking. I quit talking forever, I am awful at talking. No wonder talking to Virgil's so nerve-wracking.
Ah, I—also thought you might appreciate a hug too Remus, if I asked first of course? Because, seeing what…all of us saw can be. Distressing, that way. Specially, with, ah. *momentarily inaudible tone* Prior experiences like yours. Yeah. (Eh…! Obviously you can say no! I can just hug the air instead, see? *slightly forced yet thankfully invisible smile, exaggerated motions of hugging the air* It can be a psychological hug, those are just as good.)
Aaand, I'm banking on you being awake in the middle of the night for this. *softly curses in realization* Darn, sorry. Again. I won't wake you up if you're already half asleep, goodness knows you need the rest. I'm worrying, is all. Haven't seen someone in a bit and l-last time we—
…Janus seemed rather distressed, too, last we saw them. Do you know if they're okay? Has their nose recovered? I've been wondering about him for a bit. I could go see him, if you want to go back to sleep.
The sudden sound of his name being called made Remus startle up from where he'd been laying in the backseat of his sister's car. He clasped his hands over his mouth and anxiously looked around but let out a breathe of relief when he saw it was just you. He was now very happy he hadn't taken off his binder before going to bed- or- uhm- car.
(Sometimes when Rowan had a guest over he slept in her car. The car was in the apartment complex's garage so it was warm, don't worry. He was just glad she got to finally have a good night after having to deal with his problems for months, for kind of the entire year really)
He waved back "Hi! Don't worry about the plushies!! I won't die without new ones constantly" He tilted his head a little "Oh no. Don't be sad. Wait...Did you know that tarantulas can live for 2 years without food!! Or..That giving any alcohol to a scorpion will make it sting itself to death! Pretty cool huh??? You can't be sad if you're too busy wondering if you're gonna be the tarantulas next meal!"
Remus forced back a grimace when he heard you offer a hug. He tensed up and opened his mouth to say no but not a single sound came out no matter how much he thought of saying it.
He gulped back some bile before forcing a smile "S-sure"
As he leant in to hug you his entire skin seemed to ache. The nauseous feeling grew in his throat as he forced himself to stay there for a few moments, To pat you on the back even when it felt like his insides were shriveling up.
The moment he let go he backed away until his back hit the car door. He twirled the engagement ring on his finger while staring at the leather of the seat in front of him. He bit the inside of his lip until his skin looked red.
"Sorry- I- I could really go for a cig right now"
He took out his phone and hastily wrote some message to Remy asking if they were awake. If they had any marlboros left over. When he clicked send a message popped out saying they had blocked him.
"Oh- they- uhm- They must have accidentally clicked block. I'll go along with Janny to Dr. Picani and see if Remy is there I guess. I mean not right now. Later. Gotta tell them to stop being so clumsy heh. Maybe gotta shake them around so a bunch of blood goes up into their head"
He was still looking down at his phone as he continued "Don't worry 'bout waking me. I'll sleep once I get a stake through my heart. It's only been uh a few hours? so Janny probably has a pretty nasty bruise on their nose but the bleeding...stopped?...yeah...it stopped....and they....Logan....yeah there was a car...Logan picked him up....so...so he should be fine with his lil nerd. You can probs talk to him if you want. I doubt he's asleep"
Remus furrowed his eyebrows but tried to hide it. A headache pressed on. He massaged his temples.
"Sorry. I'm not coherent. If I know enough about injuries- and I do, I love that shit- their nose should be fine in a few days. Don't worry"
The forced smile faltered if only a little.
"Sorry. I- I think it was Logan. It's all so blurry. I- I"
The skin under his engagement ring had started to break apart from the ring being twisted too fast.
"Sorry. I just remember that something happened at the party. Or- I remember what happened before then too. I remember showing Janny my drawings. But then- It- it was- someone was telling someone else to let go if them. It hurt I think and he wouldn't. I don't remember. I don't know. I think my brain freaked out. It all got so blurry after that. It's just....shapes....I went on autopilot I think. I don't even remember who it was. I just remember that they said it hurt. I think my body moved out to the parking lot and Janny was so there so I- Yeah he was bleeding- I think I comforted him- I- I don't remember what I said- or what happened- I think he called Logan- maybe- There was a car and then Janny was gone and I- Yeah- Yeah Rowan found me and she was with someone and then we went home and- and now I'm here because she asked if I could sleep in the garage tonight"
The smile fully fell away. He leant forward and held his arms around himself.
"I don't like it. I have to remember everything! I have to have control! That's why I don't drink anymore! I need control over my memories! I don't remember what happened- I know Janny is a good dude but I still don't remember! What if I said something super fucked up???"
The bile was filling his throat. There was a few- but very loud- thoughts telling him he should shut his mouth and not open it again. To return to the delusion.
He shut his eyes so tightly he saw stars. He tried to breathe and shut them out.
"Sorry. I- I need some air"
He stumbled out of the car and started walking back and forth between the neatly lined cars. He lightly hit his hands against his head, just enough to try and stim some of the worst thoughts away.
"Sorry. Thanks for the meds...I think the thoughts- the delusions would have been worse otherwise- I can keep them out don't worry- I can- I just- I just- I REally don't like not remembering y'know! I just- I'm just a tiny bit freaked out! It was so hazy! Like some- some old vhs tape you watched as a kid and now as an adult when you try to rewatch it you realize the tape has been fucked up because you tried to eat it when you were five so it's just the same scene being played over and over but it's mostly static and it's just- just- shapes!"
He closed his eyes again. It made his headache worse when he pressed his eyelids together this tightly.
"Sorry. You came here 'cause you'd already had a sucky night and I'm just dumping my stupid brain fuckery onto you. The only thing I should dump is my trunk! hehe......"
He looked over to you. He stopped if only for a moment.
"I hope your friend is okay. You said you hadn't seen them in a bit. I'm sure you'll hear from them again soon. The only murder allowed around here is my murders! You can tell me about them if I want. Not like I'm sleeping anyway"
ch. 1 || ch. 3
“Oh, hey Ava. Haven't seen you in forever. How are you? That's exactly what he said.”, Ava told her best friend while savouring her freshly baked croissant.
Yunmi sighed and took another sip form her third coffee. “I mean you actually didn't see him in nearly three years.”
Ava shot her friend a glance and snorted. “Yeah, well, that's not my bad. He decided to completely ignore me for no reason at all.”
“Yeah, because he's a jerk. That's a fact.”, Yunmi said with a smile, trying to comfort her friend.
“Totally.”
“A handsome jerk, tho.”, Ava added and drank a sip of her water, trying to avoid her friend's gaze.
“Yup, we all got eyes. But I still don't get it. I mean you two didn't even hook up, did you?”, she felt Yunmi's eyes staring holes in her body.
“No, I've told you a hundred times. We just kissed. I think I'd remember if I hooked up with fucking Johnny Suh.”, Ava sighed with frustration in her voice. Of course she thought Johnny was attractive. Well, not only attractive. It was like she was just drawn to his simple presence. Not to mention, that he was funny, smart, caring and overall just a good person. Or that's what she thought before he decided to just erase her out of his life.
She just couldn't get a hang of it. The memories she had of that night were just magnificient. The farewell party was fun and chill. Everyone enjoyed themselves while dancing or just having drinks. She wasn't even that buzzed, especially not in the moment she remembered so clearly it even felt a little surreal sometimes. But she could remember so clearly how she talked to Johnny for hours about everything. It wasn't the typical smalltalk they usually had – she told him about her worries for university, her feelings about this god forsaken town and even managed to tell him that he crushed on him for years, not having the balls to ask him out. Him being the best friend of her brother didn't make the whole situation easier, though.
And then, just like in all these movies she binge-watched with Yunmi he actually kissed her. And not like a friend, no, she remembered his lips on hers so clearly. The softness of them and how perfectly fit on hers like they were just meant to be. Yet, it felt like a dream sometimes. She felt how much passion the kiss had, it was breathtaking, like a sweet drug she couldn't get enough from and yes, she absolutely would've slept with him but she knew that he was a gentleman. They just chuckled at each other before he brought her home, promising to call the next day before her flight would take off.
But that never happened.
“Maybe you should try talking to him? Like face-to-face. You won't be able to avoid him forever, especially because of Mark.”, Yunmi said and tried to read her friends emotions but Ava just chuckled.
“Watch me.”
The café Yunmi picked out was next to the bookstore Mark worked at. Ava remembered how the spot was always closed and under construction but apparently it opened a few months ago. The style was simple and comfy. It was a light store with paintings on the walls and different types of plants everywhere. Huge windows allowed a view over the main street and the small park right in the middle. It seemed oddly familiar to Ava, even though she never set a foot in this building. But something just felt like she's been there before but she couldn't figure it out.
“I need more coffee.”, Yunmi said and pouted looking at her empty cup.
“Dude, that was your third coffee.” Ava laughed and looked at her friend, with just a tint of worry in her eyes.
“Happens when you work as a nurse. Night shifts are just so tiring here. Nothing happens anyway but I wasn't able to take a nap because I had to do all these papers.”, she said annoyed and pouted at Ava, holding up her empty cup.
The girl sighed and smiled, standing up to get her friend her needed refill.
Ava went up to the empty counter and looked for the young waiter she saw earlier but to her surprise another young man came out, looking at her with warm eyes.
“Can I get a refill please?”, she asked politely and handed the guy the cup after he nodded. His eyes focused on her for just a second, but for her it felt longer. Did she know him? His hair was dyed in a ashy-blonde color, hair framing his delicate facial features. His eyes looked warm yet they had something deep and maybe even dark about them. The way he moved looked elegant. She eyed him just for a second longer, trying hardly to think why he looked so familiar. She even felt like she somewhat heard his voice before. She squinted her eyes trying to take a look at his name tag but apparently he didn't even wear one.
“Here. Do you need something else?”, he asked.
Ava froze for a split second, realized how impolite it was to stare at a person as bluntly as she did.
“No, thank you. I really like the place, though. It's pretty.”, she smiled lightly and took the cup.
The guy thanked her, his face lightened up, a smile appearing on his face, which made her feel warm all of a sudden. Why did his smile see so familiar?
She hurried back to the table her friend was sitting, giving her her desperately needed caffeine.
“Who's the guy at the counter?”, Ava asked.
Yunmi immediately turned around to take a look at who her friend meant.
“Taeyong. He owns this place.”
After Ava stayed silent, not quite sure if she knew him or not, Yunmi added,
“He lives together with Johnny and Jaehyun in that house. We met him there once, don't you remember?”, Yunmi asked and raised a brow.
“I don't know. I guess? You know how bad my memory is.”, Ava chuckled and stared at her glass of water before giving her friend a smile.
Honestly, she wasn't sure if she remembered. Maybe she did meet him back then. Maybe not.
“He's cute, isn't he? He even makes the pastries himself.”, Yunmi said and took a bit of her sandwich after inhaling her coffee.
“Yeah, he is nice, I guess.”, Ava said, looking over at the counter where Taeyong stood. She saw how his eyes met hers, holding the eye-contact for just a bit before he turned around and went to the back.
Weird.
“There will be a party tonight at their house.” Yunmi said, eyeing her friend once more. After Ava didn't answer right away Yunmi sighed.
“We should go. It will be fun.” she added.
“Since when do you want to go parties?”, Ava asked her friend, raising her brow. As long as she remembered Yunmi and her weren't the type of girls who went to parties. They usually preferred a good movie night with food over drinks and bad music. Even in college, Ava didn't attend many of those famous college parties she heard about.
“Their parties are usually really nice.”, she smiled softly and started to play with a strand of her brown hair.
“Mh-mh. Their parties or just someone at their parties?”, Ava teased her friend, poking her cheek.
Yunmi pouted a light shade of red on her cheeks. She caught her.
“Well, you won't know if you don't join.”, Yunmi poked out her tongue at Ava, laughing softly at her.
“Fine. But if I see Johnny I'll leave.”, Ava said firmly and looked at her hands for a second. She really didn't want to attend another party where he was after the last time, even if it was years ago.
“He lives there, genius. Of course he will be there. But it will be fun, I promise. Maybe you could even use the chance to talk to-”
A glance of Ava cut her friends words off, holding her hands up in defeat.
“Fine. Or ignore him. Just come with me. I'll introduce you to some cool people, okay?”
The girl groaned until she gave in.
“Okay. I will be there. Mark probably wants to go too, anyway.”, Ava said and rummaged in her bag, trying to find her phone.
“Probably.”, Yunmi answered, seemingly uninterested if the boy would join them or not.
“Mh, can't find my phone.”, Ava muttered, unable to find anything in her bag anyway.
“Well, the bookstore is right next-door, I'll just ask him there. I think he's working.”, she looked to her best friend who seemed to have spaced out for a second.
“You join me?”, she asked, touching Yunmis hand for a second. Her best friend shook her head, smiling at her.
“No no, I need to take a nap and a shower before the party. Just, um, say hello from me, will you?”, Yunmi stood up, taking her jacket over her arm, helping to put the empty plates and cups on the empty counter.
“Yeah, sure. See you then.”, Ava said putting the rest of the plates on the counter, a bit surprised about the sudden haste her friend was in.
She sighed taking a look around the café once more before leaving it for the day. Ava tried her best to not overthink the whole situation and slowly walked to the next door on the street, leading into the small bookstore her younger brother worked at.
She strolled through the filled shelves, inhaling the magnificent scent of all the bound books walking up to her most favourite isle – old classics. Her fingers trailed over the spines, feeling their different textures. She used to read a lot, every week a new book in her hand, ready to savour it in just one sitting. Back then, it felt easy to just sit down, a book in her hands and shutting the world out completely, focusing only on the words forming these beautiful pictures inside her head, making all these thoughts haunting her in real life go away just like that. When did she lose this talent? Nowadays, she just couldn't get herself to actually read a book. She continues to buy them, placing them prominently on her nightstand, in hopes for her to just grab it in the evening but the pile of books just grew bigger and bigger over the weeks until she finally stopped to even buy them. She hoped to get back into her once most loved hobby. Even if it was just for a few minutes.
“Hey, didn't expect you to visit me.”, she heard Mark saying and turned around, a big smile on her lips.
“I wanted to surprise you, I've actually met with Yunmi. We had breakfast in the café next door.”, Ava answered and looked at her brother. She chuckled mildly. He looked so grown-up and mature in his plain black shirt with his round glasses on, his dark hair falling into his face. She realized how different he looked from the last time she saw him. Unbelievable that he was already 20 years old.
“Oh-Uh, yeah it opened up a few weeks ago. The owner is Jaehyun and Johnny's roommate.”, Mark said after he scratched the nape of his neck. “H-How's Yunmi? She alright?”, he asked casually while sorting a book from his hand into the shelv.
“Yeah, I guess. She said hello but had to rush home.”, Ava answered, shrugging her shoulders.
She eyed her brother and how he fumbled with the hem of his shirt, he seemed to want to say something but decided not to.
“Anyway.”, he exhaled loudly and cleared his throat before smiling at Ava. “I'm happy you're visiting. Want me to show you around? I mean you technically know it, though.”, her brother chuckled.
But as the good sister she is she nodded and let her brother show her all the different types of book they had and which authors occasionally came to give a reading. Seeing his eyes lighten up just by the name of  these authors made her heart melt. He explained passionately the several differences in their writing techniques and why they were his favourites. He told her how he fell in love with classic literature, especially romance and tragedy.
Ava listened to him swooning over different works and their means to past society, yet he even read modern novels. She looked at all the books, most of them she already read by herself when she was younger. She felt proud seeing him glowing up, doing what he loved without hiding.
“I just hope I'll be half as good as them.”, she heard her brother sighing when he put down the last book.
Ava put a hand on his slim shoulder and smiled at him warmly.
“I’m sure you will be. Trust me, I will be your biggest fan!”, she laughed and ruffled his hair, making him scrunch his nose before trying to fix his hair.
“Please. I appreciate the encouragement but it's still a long way. Plus mom and dad are still not very fond of the idea of me becoming an author. They think it's still a phase and that I will soon realize it's stupid and become a doctor like – well.”, he shrugged his shoulders before speaking out his thoughts.
Ava bit her lip. “I will tell them.”, she said, not believing her answer.
“When will you, though? I mean, I'm not pressuring you. I get it, it's hard but don't you think it will be even harder the longer it lasts? They're not stupid.”, Mark said looking at his sister, his eyes were filled with worry.
“I know. I'm just – imagine their disappointment. I need a plan, you know?”, she muttered, trying to avoid his gaze. She felt guilty for lying but she would feel even worse seeing the disappointment in her parents eyes when they realize she wasn't that perfect daughter they saw her as.
“Promise me you'll figure something out, okay? It's not healthy.”, he said, looking up when he heard the door open.
“Yes, I promise. Just give me some more time, will you?”, she pleaded at him, pouting as best as she possibly could.
“Sure.”, he rolled his eyes, sighing deeply before he put on a smile and waved at the new customer.
Ava turned around and saw two young men walking in.
“Hey guys, what are you doing here?”, Mark said and smiled, walking up to his friends.
Ava just sighed, silently asking the universe why it made life for her that hard.
“Hi.”, she just briefly said, trying not to look directly into Johnny's eyes. She even managed to ignore him and just gave Jaehyun a smile which he joined.
“Long time no see. You look good.”, Jaehyun said and brushed his hand briefly at her arm.
Ava chuckled, putting a strand of hair behind her ear.  “Thanks.”
She felt Johnny looking at her standing next to Jaehyun, eyeing both of them. Just like she wanted him to do.
“We're actually looking for books for the café. Taeyong wants to have some more for visitors to read.”, Johnny said after clearing his throat. Ava's eyes wandered to Johnny's just for a quick second but she already found herself being mesmerized by his presence once again. She liked the way he wore his black hair, the strands falling into his face just perfectly. Her gaze locked at his lips while he spoke with Mark about the books Taeyong wanted and even though the name still rang a bell in the back of her head she couldn't free herself from the way Johnny's lips moved. She knew how soft they felt, recognizing the feeling just too well.
Her thoughts moved back to that night like they always did and the urge to confront him about why he decided to let her hang like that grew stronger. She knew that it would probably was just a kiss for most people but for her it felt so differently. It was romantic and intimate, just how she imagined kissing him over and over again when she was younger. Plus, him declaring his feelings for her made that memory even more perfect. Yet, it all shattered when he ignored her.
She felt a hand on her back and then a breath at her ear, before Jaeyhun whispered
“You good?”
She felt the grin on his face when she rolled her eyes and nodded.
For a split second she saw how Johnny turned his head towards her, looking away just another second later, continuing to talk to Mark.
“Will you be at our place tonight?”, Jaehyun asked, not moving his hand from her back.
“I guess so. Yunmi asked me, too.”, Ava smiled at Jaehyun, wordlessly thanking him.
“Well, you can't say no now. I'd be happy if you came.”, he smiled at her paired with a short wink before laughing with her.
She heard Johnny clearing his throat and looked up to him.
“Anyway, we should head back to the café or Taeyong will be mad at us for leaving him alone for too long.”, he said while taking books off Mark's arms he seemed to have collected for them.
“Sure.”, Jaehyun said and smiled at the others, before looking down at Ava again. “See you tonight then, can't wait.”, he said, stroking her back slightly before leaving behind Johnny.
Ava felt her brother's piercing gaze on her back while she tried to look away, shrugging her shoulders.
“Stop staring at me like that.”, she hissed at Mark and rolled her eyes. She finally looked at him but he just shook his head, wanting to say something but all he did was open his mouth for a second before closing it again, raising both of his hands.
“None of my business.”
Ava's head felt already heavy without any alcohol in it. She stared at the dark street in front of her, trying to concentrate on driving the car her parents gladly allowed them to use to drive to the party. Of course, she didn't even want to drink. She didn't even want to attend the party at all but she had to admit that she was curious – curious about how the people had changed, curious about how they'd behave and obviously curious about certain of these people whose names she didn't want to think about again.
Even when the last time she visited the house was three years ago she remembered the way so clearly as if she'd just was there yesterday. She took a glance at Mark who was sitting next to hear, looking out of his window, seemingly way up in his own thoughts she wished to read.
Ava sighed quietly, focusing her eyes on the street. She felt anxious about meeting all these people. No one knew about her not so graceful career, still thinking she studied medicine on some ivy league college back in the city everyone dreamed of living.  The thought of them asking all these questions she already had to answer her parents made her shiver. Maybe she should just hide in a closet until Mark wanted to go back home. Would be smarter than awkwardly running into someone again – once a day is enough.
Yet she took hours to get ready, carefully picking out an outfit, lipstick and the way she wore her hair,  trying to look casual but not too casual. The chance of running into him was just too high for her to not try to make herself look presentable.
The street got more narrow, leading into the woods where the house was.
“I still don't get why they're living in the woods.”, she sighed and looked at Mark for a second before driving on the long gateway leading to the house.
“Taeyong inherited it from his grandma or something.”, Mark answered, waking up from his thoughts.
Ava just nodded, already seeing some more cars and people standing outside. She couldn't see enough to look at their faces. The girl quickly parked the vehicle and stretched her arms once she got out, looking around. The late summer air was still warm and comfortable yet one could sense the upcoming autumn as some leaves slowly turned darker.
The siblings walked down the path leading to the entrance, which led to a huge front yard. It was lighted with small paper lamps, showing off some of the landscaping done. She even heard a fountain splashing somewhere. She looked around, not quite sure if she'd remember the place at all. The house was surrounded by a traditional stone fence and she wondered how old it was. Ava could already hear the people enjoying themselves, with loud music pounding in her ear.
From what she saw through the darkness and the sparse light the house itself looked huge enough to  probably fit a hundred people. The door was left open, shoes flooding the entrance area.
After bumping into dozens of people greeting her, smiling and waving she helplessly looked at Mark who was still right behind her looking for someone.
“You made it!”, Ava heard Yunmi screaming in her hear, an arm around her waist, pressing a kiss on her cheek. Ava could smell a note of alcohol in her friend's breath and chuckled.
“How much did you already drink?”, she asked but Yunmi waved her off, her gaze meeting Mark.
“Oh hi Mark. Nice to see you, how are you?”, she asked politely while resting her head on Ava's shoulder.
“Uhm, I'm good thanks. And you?”, he scratched is neck, looking away, probably trying to find his own friends.
“Life's great.”, she answered and laughed, removing her head from her friend's shoulder to take a sip from her cup, shaking it in front of Ava's face.
“Want something? I can totally mix you a drink.”
“No, thanks. I don't drink.”, she answered and smiled apologetic.
“I'm gonna look for Johnny. Hit me up when you want to go home, alright?”, Mark said and disappeared in the moving crowd of people.
“I take it you don't want to look for Johnny?”, Yunmi asked her friend, directly looking at her, rolling her eyes when Ava shook her head.
“Nope. So, who are these cool people you wanted me to get to know?”, Ava smiled.
Yunmi entangled her fingers with hers and dragged her through the crowd, brabbling something about a girl and a boy.
Not long after Ava spotted to semi-familiar people her friend shouted at. A girl with a black long bob smiled warmly and waved.
The boy, a bit shorter than her, with short black hair smiled and greeted her. “Ava, you must remember Ten and Sunhyung, right? We went to Highschool together.”, Yunmi introduced them but Ava wasn't exactly sure who they were. She barely remembered anyone from Highscool, though. At least not their names.
“We were in another class, though.”, Sunhyung chuckled.
“Nice to meet you. So what are you guys doing?”, Ava asked them.
“Well, we're actually officers right now. Ten is my partner.”, Sunhyung explained and smiled at Ten, who just nodded and raised his cup.
“Not on duty tonight, though.”, he winked and exed the rest of the liquid.
“Yunmi told me you're studying medicine? Pretty cool. How's life in the States? This town must bore you to death.”, Sunhyung chuckled and looked at her cup, seemingly disappointed that it was empty.
“I'm actually enjoying it. It's like a vacation.”, Ava answered and hoped no one would ask her to further elaborate on her studies, which weren't even real.
“I'd give everything to travel to a real city. The only “crimescenes” we're looking at are rather boring. It's mostly just noise disturbance or someone's speeding who isn't from here.”, Sunhyung rolled her eyes.
“Hey, last week we had one burglary!”, Ten protested.
“You mean the sixteen-year-old boy who stole some Vodka from the store? How exciting.”, his partner answered sarcastically and laughed.
“I need a refill, you want something?”, Yunmi asked in the group as she apparently spotted something at the bar which needed her attention.
Ten and Sunhyung both nooded eagerly. She didn't bother to look at Yunmi, knowing she'd say no anyway.
Ava's eyes followed her friend to the bar, by which a tall young men stood. She saw how Yunmi straightened her back and smiled at the guy, who she probably knew. Ava noticed how her friend pushed her long hair back and saw how her mouth formed into a laugh after the boy said something. Ava tilted her head, trying to figure out if the knew him or not. She would probably remember a guy like him. He was handsome, yet his face had something sheepish when he talked to Yunmi.
“That's Lucas.”, she heard Sunhyung say and snapped out of her thoughts, “He moved her two years ago. Always hangs out with Johnny and the rest.”, she added and Ava raised her brows. She was pretty sure she never saw or even heard of him before.
“I swear Yunmi has the biggest crush on him. Always swooning over his hands or something.”, Ava heard Sunhyung continue and asked herself why exactly her best friend didn't tell her anything about that guy.
“Well, quite obvious that they're flirting.”, Ten added and nodded.
“Yeah, I'm betting they end hooking up tonight.”, said Sunyhung.
“Never. Both won't make the first moves. They're flirting for months and nothing interesting happened.”, her partner replied.
“Got it in my guts. Tonight is the night.”, Sunhyung nodded with a stern voice.
“Pff, wanna bet? 50 they won't hook up.”, Ten chuckled.
“Make it 100.”, Sunhyung answered, looking at her partner while shaking his hand.
Ava's gaze meanwhile scanned the room for someone else. As if someone read her thoughts, Johnny came down the stairs with Mark right behind him.
Johnny's eyes met Ava's for a moment and she clenched her jaw. She noticed how he was moving towards her and how her heart began to beat faster in her chest.
“I'm gonna get some water or something. Be right back.”, she mumbled and quickly disappeared in the crowd, trying to keep herself as small as possible. Her eyes searched for a kitchen, which she finally found. Gladly, there weren't any people in it. Probably because the whole alcohol was at the bar and no one here wanted to drink something else.
She sighed and looked for a water bottle but all she saw were some empty cups.
“What are you looking for?”, she suddenly heard a way too familiar voice and turned around just to see Johnny standing in the door frame, a small smile on his lips.
“Just some water.”, she answered quietly, trying her best to look away from his dammed face. She saw how he moved next to her and opened a door next to her which apparently belonged to the fridge. Just a second later he handed her a bottle of cool water. Ava looked up and mumbled a quick thank you but it was enough to catch him smiling again, which made her heartbeat increase.
“I'm glad you came.”, Johnny said and leaned with his back against the door, looking down at her.
“Yunmi practically forced me to. It's nice, though.”, she answered, fumbling with the bottle in her hands, not sure what else to do with them.
Silence flooded the room and all the questions burned on her tongue. Taking a deep breath, she managed to look up at him, meeting his gaze. She locked her eyes with his for much longer as initially wanted and already felt how she got lost in his gaze just like everytime he looked at her.
He was handsome. His black hair messily falling into his face, his beautifully shaped lips curling upwards to form a small smile. Johnny's dark eyes seemed to look right through her.
“Can I ask you something?”, Ava finally found her voice and gulped, without breaking of the gaze.
“Anything.”, he answered, his voice unusual quiet.
“I need to know why you ignored me after that night.”
“What exactly do you mean?”, his brows furrowed.
“My last night here. You kissed me. You told me you'd call me the next day but you never did. And when I tried to reach out you simply ignored all my messages.” she sighed loudly, breaking their connection for a second, to gather her thoughts, “Seriously I felt so stupid. I still do.”
“Ava, listen, it's not what you think.”, she heard him answer and looked at his eyes once more.
“Then tell me, Johnny. Seriously. It's driving me insane.”, she pleaded, letting her arms drop in frustration.
Silence came up once more. The girl's frustration grew with any second passing by, not sure what she could say to finally get him to answer properly.
“I really thought about every single reason why you did that.”, she sighed, pain growing inside of her body, “And the only possible reason left is what you never liked me at all.”, she said, her voice just a small whisper, anxious about his answer.
“It's not that I don't like you. It's quite the opposite.”, Johnny said as she looked up at him again.
“I can't believe you.”, she sighed and furrowed her brows, thinking about his reasons why when he liked her.
“Listen, I'm sorry if I had hurt you but it's not that simple.”, he tried to explain but Ava just snorted and chuckled bitterly.
“Seriously just tell me directly into my face that I imagined all of that and that you're not interested. I'm not a kid and you're owing me that.” she answered, pressing her lips together.
“I can't tell you that because it would be a lie.”, now it was Johnny who sighed.
“It's the only possible explanation. Don't you want to tell me that you're not interested because you don't want to hurt me? Honestly, it would've hurt less if you'd just told me instead of ghosting me for years!”, her voice got louder such as her thoughts, which were going crazy inside of her head.
“That's not it.”, now frustration filled his voice as well. Ava looked into his face, seeing how he pushed his hair back, seemingly unsure about what to say.
“God, this is so stupid. I'm just gonna go.”, she dropped her arms in defeat, tired and annoyed. She didn't want to maintain this nonsense conversation when she wouldn't get a proper answer anyway.
Just when she wanted to move out of the door she felt Johnny's hand on her shoulder.
“Just – don't go, please.”, she heard him say and rolled her eyes.
“Then tell me why.”, as soon as she turned around she felt how Johnny laid his arms around her figure, pressing her against his chest softly.
“I'm sorry. I honestly am, please believe me.”, she felt how he buried his head in heir hair and wrapped her arms around his torso, her heart hammering loudly in her chest.
“I want to.”, she mumbled in the material of his black shirt and tightened her grip around him.
It felt unbelievably good to hug him, yet she still didn't get an answer from him, making her anxiety rise inside her body. She still didn't know why and the sudden touch confused her even more.
Ava started to wiggle when she realized her thoughts wouldn't shut up. Reluctantly, she looked up at him, loosening the hug a bit, yet not ready to let him go completely.
“This is confusing. I just want to know what's going on, please.” she pleaded once more, locking her eyes with his, just staring into them, trying to find answers.
She felt how Johnny moved one of his hands up her back, reaching her head, carefully putting one of her strands of hair behind her hear, his hand lingering on her cheek.
Her breath quickened when her eyes wandered over his face, absorbing every inch of it, until she stopped at his just perfectly shaped lips. She licked over hers, memories of how his tasted on hers flooded her mind. Her gaze went up again, meeting his once again that night.
The girl was once again hypnotised by his gaze, unable to look away this time.
Without further thinking about it, she put her hands on his neck and pulled him closer to her, to finally press her lips on his. His lips were just as soft as she memorized them, fitting on hers just as she remembered. The kiss was careful, still anxious about his reaction but when he actually pressed her closer to him, deepening the kiss her mind went completely blank.
Her eyes fell shut, her fingers slightly tightening on the back of his neck, trying to keep him even closer. Their lips moved in perfect sync, just as they belonged on each other. The girl cherished every second of it, how his hands cupped her face while one thumbs caressed her cheek, touching her so softly, as if she could break any second. The taste of his lips were sweet, she couldn't even taste a bit of alcohol, which ensure her that this was what he wanted.
As soft as the kiss was, she knew she wanted more. She needed more. After all these months of anxiety, pain and worry she finally kissed him again. Ava opened her mouth for him, allowing his tongue to play with hers, just like she always wanted to be kissed by him. Her fingers buried in his thick her, while his hands trailed down her body to rest on her hips.
Just before she could press her body closer Johnny pushed himself away, as if he'd burn himself.
Completely puzzled, the girl stared at him, not understanding what was going on.
“I can't. I'm sorry.”, she heard him say, his voice sounding strained, as he quickly ran out of the kitchen, leaving Ava alone once again.
She stared at her hands, her heart still beating fast, trying to catch her own breath. The girl felt how tears formed in the corners of her eyes and how her chest, which felt so light and carefree the other second, now felt like some heavy stone was laying on it, stealing her breath away. She had the sudden urge of fresh air and stumbled out of the kitchen, trying to leave everyone in that house behind her while not being seen. She couldn't manage to explain her situation to anyone. She wanted to be alone.
Ava breathed in the cold air and closed her eyes for a second, trying to get as much distance as possible between her and that house. She took a look at her smartphone to check the time but it wasn't even midnight yet, and she didn't want to be a killjoy and spoil Mark's fun. She made her way out of the garden and looked at the woods behind the property and stopped for a second. She heard how the wind whistled through the branches and how the leftover leaves trailed through the air. Her heart was still pounding in her chest, the latest event flooding her mind. This didn't make any sense to her. Why did he kiss her again? It wasn't just a casual kiss, she could feel that. And this time it wasn't her freaking imagination. The way he hold her and returned her kiss, the way he pressed her against his body – that wasn't imagination.
She actually believed him. She trusted his words yet he was acting like something completely different was on his mind and she just couldn't figure it out. Her thoughts went crazy and she felt how her throat got sore. Why did he stop when it felt so good? Any why did he leave her like that, not explaining his behaviour once again.
Ava kept going towards the trees, sometimes looking up at the sky which wasn't as clear as she thought. Thick black clouds were blocking the moon and stars and she sighed, yet it felt nice to move and properly breathe since the air in the house was muggy and way too hot. Or maybe it just felt like that to her. Her body felt exhausted, yet still full of adrenaline. What did she do wrong? Once again, she went through all the possibilities and couldn't get the hand of it. She didn't want to get hurt again by him, yet there she was. Feeling exactly the same as two years ago. It felt like some kind of absurd Deja Vu.
She flinched when she heard a loud crackle next to her and squinted her eyes, when she couldn't see anything. For a second, she thought someone was here, probably some drunk people enjoying themselves in the woods. She rolled her eyes and continue to stroll when she heard a noise again, but this time it sounded more like a hiss. Ava turned around, trying to see anything but it was too dark. Maybe some brainless jock saw her and tried to scare her.
Another crunching noise, this time right behind her, made her flinch once more, the hairs on her neck standing up. She felt her muscles tighten, when she turned around yet still no one was there. The girl looked a round several times, until she decided to head back to the house which she only saw in some distance thanks to the lights outside. Maybe she could just wait inside the car until Mark wanted to leave the party.
For a few seconds, it was silent again when she heard another noise, this time way closer to her, besides her.
Ava started to run, fear suddenly filling her body as her breath and heartbeat quickened, a feeling of danger flowing her body. The noises got louder, someone was definitely following her. She heard fast footsteps approaching her, whispers and hisses starting to echo inside her head, making her want to scream. She shook her head, trying to leave the voices behind but it was like they were just stuck, burying every other sound under it.
The blood pulsated in her head, breathing loudly. Sweat running down her forehead while her feet tried to run as fast as she could, yet she didn't seem to come any closer to the house.
A dark laugh suddenly appeared as she saw a black figure suddenly standing in front her, which made her stop in her steps, almost falling over.
She couldn't see a face, nor anything else which could possibly explain who it was. The figure took a stop closer to her, making her move backwards until her back met with once of the trees, the tree bark scratching her back uncomfortably.
The girl blinked once and the figure was gone, her blood still pulsating in her veins. She gulped, looking around before continuing to run in the direction she thought was the right one, while still turning her head every other second.
Suddenly she felt a breath on her neck, paired with a deep chuckle, making her stop in her tracks once more. She wanted to ask something, scream, anything but it felt like she suddenly had a lump in her throat. The voices inside her head growing louder and louder with each second passing by.
As soon as she wanted to start running again, a hand grabbed her wrist, forcing her to stand still. The grip was harsh and strong, not moving an inch even when she tried her best to wiggle her wrist free. She grunted and tried to take a look at the person behind her but she couldn't move at all.
“Oh no, you can't look at me. Not now, dear child.”, a voice said. It was more of a whisper than a real voice. The sound seemed hypnotic.
“There, there, hold still. Don't scream now.”, he said as she tried to wiggle herself free until her body stiffened. Suddenly, it was like all the noises she heard a second ago were gone. She didn't hear the whistles of the wind, the arches or their leaves. Nothing. It felt like the was in a vacuum, only the voice echoing in her head, telling her to hold still.
“You see, it's nothing personal.”, he continued and chuckled, sending shivers through her body.
“It's just, you got to understand that you're part of something bigger.”, she felt a hot breath on her neck again, making her want to scream but it felt like she lost her voice.
He heard him click his tongue, followed by a cold finger stroking over her neck.
“Such a  pity. So beautiful. I see what he's found in you, honestly. But, you know, sacrifices must be made. And such a pretty one.”, the voice continued.
Tears started to form in her eyes, rolling down her cheek, burning her skin. She didn't know what was going to happen but she felt afraid. More than that – she feared for her life. Something in his presence made her body fill with this primal fear.
“Oh, so pretty while crying, what a sight.”, a finger wiped one of her tears, chuckling mildly.
“You know, I like it when they scream. And now you need to scream, so he can hear you, you know?”, like a snap, Ava seemed to found her voice and screamed in a high-pitched voice.
Suddenly he let her go, making her stumble over her feet, her knees meeting the cold earth. She coughed while pulling herself up, commanding her body to start running again. When her feet started to move and her thoughts came back, the voices also did. They laughed at her in different tones, from every direction. It felt like a circle was around her, closing closer around her, laughing louder with every step she took.
Another desperate scream fell of her lips as she pressed her hands against her ears, trying to make the voices go but they got even louder, so loud she felt like becoming deaf. She couldn't even hear her own breath anymore, while tears ran down her face.
“It's so much fun to play, don't you think?”, she heard his voice echoing inside her head again, the screams suddenly disappearing.
“You know why? Because I always win.”, a chuckle echoed inside her head, turning into a loud laugh next to her ear.
“Maybe he'll find you, maybe he won't. I hope he does, otherwise it would spoil the fun.”, the voice added and she felt the grip on her wrist again.
“Ah, I'd really want to keep you for myself, such a shame.” he sighed, her body stiffen again, whilst she felt like choking, unable to bring out the slightest sound.
“It's nothing personal against you, my love. You just picked the wrong person to spend your time with, that's all.”
Her eyes widened in fear, her mouth suddenly hanging open without leaving a  sound when the world around her suddenly turned pitch black.
Loyalty
If I'm being honest, I never had a job in food service. But I had to assume they were all the same mostly. Things like learning the names of the drinks and the regular customers as well as how to handle a tray filled with heavy things were to be expected. However, given my place of 'work', getting grabbed, touched, and pinched wasn't. Two weeks later and I was as used to it as you could be. When you go from living in a girls home, sharing a room, and counseling sweet innocent children to your own space in a mansion and bringing drinks backstage to the dancers, it would never feel normal.
The girls were nice enough though and I never saw Inuyasha which I was fine with. Mostly.
I'd even made friends with most of those that worked there. Some were just there to strip and make money so a little inexperienced waitress wasn't worth their time. Which was fine. But my favorite was a girl named Sango.
Her eyes brightened at the sight of me, a smile on her pretty face as she paused in putting on her fake lashes. I handed off the other drinks, giving Sango her whiskey sour last. "Oh, I do love the nights you're working Kagome."
"Which is every night?"
Sango giggled, taking a sip and moaning her appreciation of the flavor. "Yes. But you are so quick with our orders. The others take forever."
"I just don't want you guys going without some liquid courage. I couldn't do what you guys do."
Sango tisked her tongue at me as I leaned against her vanity table. "It's not that bad. I mean, the audition was a little awkward."
"Audition?"
Sango went back to her makeup, lining her lips with a dark red lipstick. "Yeah. Having to get naked in from of the boss? That was nerve-wracking, wasn't it? Naomi told me she had to do the same thing even as a server. You had to too right?"
I shuttered. So everyone had to do that? Inuyasha had slept with every single girl in this place as an audition? Was that what that was? I lost my virginity to a man like that?
I swallowed my disgust and the rising vomit in my throat, suddenly feeling a desperate need to get checked for STDs because he definitely didn't wear a condom with me, and pushed off the table. "I should get back to it."
"Yep yep. Don't want the boss to catch you slacking!"
As if he could, he was never here. Too busy 'auditioning' more girls. The only one here every day, giving me a hard time, was Koga. He was always somewhere around the club, waiting to bark at me for doing something wrong or touch me. It was never in an inappropriate place but it was still unwanted. A hand on my shoulder or a push to my back. Once, he patted my butt and I nearly tore his arm off. He hasn't done it since but I see him do it to the others all the time.
Returning to one of my tables, I leaned in to be heard over the loud music. The girl on stage now was talented for sure so I was always surprised when anyone gave me their attention over those on stage. Probably thanks to the required low cut top I had to wear. It wasn't even a top really, it was a vest and I barely fit in it. There definitely wasn't room for a bra. And the pants sat low on my hips so my skin showed all the time. Every time I leaned over, I waited for a breast to fall out. Not that anyone would mind, save for me.
Plastering a smile on my face, I listened as the guy I was attending rattled off a drink order as slowly as he could to keep me there longer. It was a struggle to keep my fake smile up. He finally finished, certain he was touching himself under the table the whole time, I fled to the bar. Far from safe, it still had fewer men ogling me at it.
I rested, waiting for my order and Naomi stood next to me. "Hey, Kagome? I'm not really sure I should say something but...there's a guy here who keeps sitting in my section and watching you."
I suppose stalkers were a normal thing here. It didn't mean I was okay with it. "He's watching me? With that going on?"
I thumbed towards the stage as Sango did a super sexy split on the pole. Not sure what I'd do with myself if I was ever that sexy but it was nice to dream. "Well...I've only been here a few days but yeah. I wasn't going to tell you until I was sure. I mean he's far less creepy than the other guy that watches you…"
"There are two guys watching me?!"
She grabbed my shoulders to reassure me. "I'm not really sure! I haven't even been here a week yet. But it seems like this guy is definitely here to watch you. He sits in the corner booth in the back so he can see you but you never seem to see him…" I gently pulled from her hold and made the quick decision to face the creep. "Wait, Kagome!"
I waved back to her, heading off towards the mentioned table. "Don't worry, I won't get you in trouble."
I didn't have to go all the way to the table, figuring out pretty quickly who it was. Shaking my head and growling a laugh in irritation, I walked right up to Inuyasha who looked a little taken aback that I seemed to notice him. Crossing my arms over my chest served two purposes; hiding my overexposed breasts and showing him how pissed I was at him in general. How the hell did Naomi not know who this was? She auditioned for him last week!
Setting his drink down carefully, he cleared his throat over the loud music and adjusted his seat. "I just wanted to check on you, that's all. See how my investment was holding up."
That wasn't good enough for me and I told him as much by not changing or saying a thing.
"This is my club, damnit, I can come in and do whatever the fuck I want."
"Yes you can, Boss," Koga said, coming up from behind out of nowhere. "Everything up to your standards?"
There was something about Koga. He said one thing but clearly felt another. Inuyasha had to be ignoring it, no way he missed the indignation in Koga's demeanor. "Everything is fine, Koga. Except for your customers getting too handsy with the wait staff!"
To my added irrigation, Koga put his hands on my shoulders as if to hold me steady. Never did I ever need another to keep me steady or still and now wasn't the exception. I glared over my shoulder at him but he ignored me. But then his hands popped off me as if burned and I turned back to Inuyasha who looked ready to kill someone. And that someone was Koga so he stepped further away from me.
"I'll..uh...I'll see what I can do about that, Sir."
Just the two of us again, I turned to leave but Inuyasha called out to me again. "Looks like you're blending in here. A real chameleon or just within your element here?"
Turning on my heel, I stormed back up to his table. Leaning over I put my finger as close to his face as I could. "I survive. It's what I've always done and those girls back at the home wouldn't if they were tossed out on the street. So remember that when you think I'm okay with any of this. With you, this place, getting my ass grabbed daily, or even going through your audition. I'm a survivor and I will survive this."
He had backed up a little in his seat but I'd rid the distance in an instant. Big golden eyes danced between my finger, eyes, and lips. "I can see that." I slowly removed myself from his bubble and he crossed his arms over his chest like he was the one wronged. "I said I was sorry the other night. I lost control and took things too far…"
"Do you say that to all the others too? Is this your blanket apology for using women the way that you do?"
He had been looking toward the exit but snapped back to me with my words. "What are you talking about?"
I huffed, pissed to the point of tears. "Fine. Play dumb. Stop coming here and watching me. I'm not going to screw up your stupid club."
He tried to say something but I really wasn't interested. It wasn't like we didn't live together, not that I ever saw him at home either. If he really wanted to talk to me, he could do it there.
I caught Koga grinning at me as I stormed away, feeling Inuyasha's glare on my back. All I could think was that I really had fallen into a den of demons somehow.
oOo
Checking every day, every hour, I didn't see Inuyasha return. A week had passed and he hadn't come back to the club. Meaning things went back to the way they were, not seeing or hearing from him at all. This time I was glad.
That is until I got to work on another Friday night.
The place was packed and Koga was far too pleased about it. "Kagome you're going on stage tonight."
"Wait, what?!"
"We're short-staffed and I've gotten requests. So you're dancing tonight. Be ready to go on after Kiki."
I was numb, staring at my reflection at the vanity that Sango let me use. She was doing something with my hair but I felt none of it. The only man I'd ever been naked in front of was Inuyasha and I was fine with that. It was a livable condition to my servitude. But now I was going to be naked in front of a ton more. As I said, the place was packed tonight so easily 50-60 people were going to see my bush.
"It's not that big a deal, Kagome, I promise."
"That's easy for you to say! You can dance! And you're super sexy."
Sango sat down beside her and frowned. "You're sexy!" When I frowned in return, she kept on. "You are! Plus, dancing isn't so bad. You're alone and no one is touching you. It's easy to pretend you're just dancing in front of your mirror. Stay out of the champagne rooms though. They touch a lot in there."
I'd heard about those rooms and had stayed clear the entire time I'd worked here. But I was a server. As a dancer, if someone paid to take me in there, didn't I have to go?
The question was bouncing around in my brain when the door to the dressing room slammed open. Inuyasha took a quick look around and when his eyes landed on me, they went from bronze to molten metal. The others squealed and ran while I was frozen in my seat, Sango stuck by me even as he stormed up and ripped me up from my seat. The only thing he said or did before dragging me out was grab a robe and throw it at me.
"Cover yourself."
In the bra and panty set I had worn there that night, cause no way in hell was I borrowing from anyone else, it was nearly my turn to go on but Inuyasha was taking us towards the exit. Koga stood near it, shaking with anger and...fear?
"I told you. I fucking warned you. She's not to go on the fucking stage. Ever. She can't even dance!"
"Look, I got requests, what was I supposed to do…"
"Tell them to fuck off, that's what! Jesus, what the hell do I pay you for?! When some asshole with a few bucks tells you what to do and you listen to them instead of me?"
Koga's head hung low but I didn't feel any pity in the slightest. "Sorry, Boss."
Inuyasha still had my hand in a death grip but he put his free one on Koga's shoulder. It was the kindest act I'd ever seen him do. "If anyone bothers you, you call me. Got it?"
I didn't get to see how Koga reacted, Inuyasha pulling us out into the night. He stopped, only to wrap his coat around me before shoving me into his car. The ride was silent until I could take it no longer. Anger was surging in me. Sure, he saved me but who asked him anyway?!
"I don't get you at all. You put me in a strip club to work but then get pissed because people want me to take off my clothes?"
"You're a server."
"IN A STRIP CLUB! What did you think was going to happen?!"
"I thought you'd do your fucking job!"
A dark laugh escaped my lips and Inuyasha turned to glare at me. "My fucking job? Interesting words coming from you. Considering you bought me to fuck you."
"I told you, I'm sorry. I didn't mean for that to …"
I wanted him to stop apologizing because it made the loss of my virginity a regret to him. I didn't regret it, I had enjoyed it until he opened his fat mouth! "It doesn't change a thing! Your apology doesn't change that night and it doesn't make my hymen magically grow back! And it doesn't change your complete lack of care for my feelings on the subject either!"
"Lack of care?!"
"I know I should be thankful...that things could be a lot worse…" I really tried not to, because I didn't want to give him my tears, but I couldn't stop them either. "But it's hard to feel anything but resentment when I went from being surrounded by angels all day to working for the devil."
I cut my sobs off after five escaped and Inuyasha listened to each one. It made me wonder if he got off on them until he spoke again. "The devil huh? That's how you see me?"
Nothing more was said even as we split off to our rooms. The devil going silently into his and I could honestly say for the first time that I hated someone. Cause I hated Inuyasha.
oOo
I half expected Inuyasha to show up at the club again the next day. But with him nowhere in sight two hours in, I considered him a no show and went about business as usual.
Sango was happy to see me, jumping up as soon as I entered the dressing room while everyone else seemed surprised to see me as well. "Oh man, last night was intense. You're okay, right?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Inuyasha is just...weird…"
"Weird? I thought it was hot as hell. I wish I had a boyfriend that protective. I was wondering why you were just a server all this time but now I get it…"
"Wait," I stopped her ramble with a gentle hand in her face, "that guy is not my boyfriend."
"Huh? Then who the hell is he? The way he dragged you out of here I thought for sure he made you quit…."
"What the hell do you mean, who is he? He's the boss!"
Sango's face and those eavesdropping around us twisted in confusion. "No, Koga's the boss."
I looked around, finding faces that agreed. "Wait...so when you said you auditioned for the boss…"
"Yeah, Koga. He made us all strip for him in his tiny little office. I was scared he'd do more but that was it."
I felt faint, my head getting light and my breaths feeling shallow. "But I thought… Inuyasha…."
"Kagome? Are you alright?"
Sango was holding me up off the floor and I gripped her shoulders tight. "Yeah, I just… need some air…"
If she didn't have her first set in five minutes, I was sure Sango would have gone with me. As it was, I wasn't sure I wanted the company anyway, following her finger to the back door of the dressing room.
It was freezing out, middle of January, and snow falling lightly from the black sky above. The cold helped my brain though, forcing the sticky feeling inside it to freeze so it would function.
So when Inuyasha said he was sorry...what had he said? He didn't mean to, that he lost control. Did he never intend to sleep with me? He was Koga's boss but not the boss of the other women? How did that make sense? It was if he had some kind of loyalty and he was actually showing it to me but I didn't understand or know how to take it.
Damn, now I hated him a little less.
"Hey."
So lost in thought, I missed the guy standing nearby, smoking. He took a step closer and I took a step back. It pushed me into the dark and him into the light. The bright red bulb at the end of his cigarette as he took a long drag and then tossed it. His features were sharp and dangerous looking, even with his long, wavy locks that softened his appearance. It was his eyes really, they were dull and lifeless and set on her.
"You're...Kagome right?" I really didn't like that he knew my name. "I'm a bit of a fan of yours. I'm Naraku."
He stuck out a hand but I refused to remove mine from their wrapped position around my chest. Naraku chuckled as he dropped the offer, digging in his pocket for something so I took another step back. A new cigarette and lighter in his hands, I still didn't relax, trying to slide towards the door. If he noticed, he said and did nothing as I grabbed a hold of the handle and pulled with all my might. But the door didn't budge.
"It's locked from the outside. Usually, the girls leave something to block the door but I guess they didn't tell you about that, did they?" he was grinning while my skin was trying to find a new home far from him. "Why don't you dance? You have a killer body and are so damn sexy. Does Inuyasha have a reason for not letting you? I must admit, it has me curious about your relationship to him."
"We don't have a relationship past employee and employer."
He shook his head, clucking his tongue at me. "Koga is your boss. Or...isn't he?" I fidgeted, looking for a way out. "Oh...I see… you belong to Inuyasha, don't you? Just what is your title then?"
My only choice was to walk around the building to the front, which I was about to do when the door popped open and Sango's head appeared. "Kagome? There you are! Sorry, I forgot to warn you about the lock…"
I was breezing past her, not worrying about the slip-up and Sango was glaring at Naraku. "If you ever want a change of pace, Kagome, let me know."
The door slammed heavily behind us and I couldn't be happier. Sango was still looking behind us as if Naraku had a key he forgot to mention. "You should stay away from that guy, Kagome. I'm not sure why he's even allowed near the building."
"Why do you say that?"
She looked back at me, her face pale. "Well...he snaked away a few of the girls that worked here a few years ago to work at his house or something. He promised them more pay and no stripping. But the last I heard he was sleeping with all of them and only some of them were willing."
I didn't bother hiding my disgust, nearly vomiting on the dark tile below us. Sango looked sick too. We were making our way back towards the front, Sango required to 'meet and greet' after her show and get tips. I was supposed to get tips too but I think they all went to Inuyasha or something. They could all go to the home for all I cared, I was loyal to the cause.
Naomi ran up to us as soon as we made it out of the hall and into the main floor. "Kagome, someone is here for you."
If it was Naraku again, I was just going to slug him and call over Koga. But it wasn't him. It was Mother Kaede.
And Naraku shows up, so you know there's going to be issues. Drama. Angsty drama. Weeeeeee...
I sat in the kitchen and stared at the food that Sam made for me. Pancakes. Again. It's been three days since we got back to the bunker and four days since Cas showed up out of nowhere and did some angel thing on Dean. I remember after that bright light, I pulled myself from Sam and heard Dean gasp for breath but didn't wake up. Cas had been sitting on the ground next to the impala and told us that Dean should be okay now, that the worst should be gone.
Sam walked back into the kitchen with his laptop. Must be googling some way to get his brother out of angel induced coma I guess. "So, get this," he started to say.
"No," I got up and walked away from him. "I don't want to hear anything that has something to do with getting Dean out of whatever he's in. Not yet at least." I walked out of the kitchen and into the main hallway. I made my way to Deans room.
Once I got there, I just looked at Dean through the doorway. He looked so peaceful as if he was sleeping. But Dean never sleeps on his back though. I walked in an looked at him closer. His face looked like it has never seen the horrors of this world. No vampires. No Djinns. No Werewolves. Nothing. I smiled a little. Everything was going to be alright.
"Hey," Sam's voice comes from the doorway, "I'm going to go out and get some food and drinks. Do you need anything?" I looked at him and could tell that he was hurting too. His brother was in some sort of coma and he couldn't do anything about it. I've been harsh to him the last few days and I couldn't tell him why.
"Yeah, let me make you a small list of what we need," I made my way to the kitchen. I grabbed some paper and a pen and start to make him a list of things. "Look, Sam," I looked at him and saw him staring at me. "I'm sorry. These last few days have been hard on us and we've been taking it out on each other or Cas or whatever." One of the reasons why Cas hadn't bee around lately. Either Sam or I would take out our frustration on him. He didn't deserve it.
Sam walked around the counter and right next to me. "It's okay, I've been trying to distract myself so I don't have to think to much about Dean just laying there helpless."
I laughed a little. A real laugh. "Dean's not really helpless if you think about it."
"Yeah," Sam forced a laugh then he turned to face me. He placed a hand on my cheek.
My heart literally skipped a beat. "Sam," I said.
Before I could say anything else, Sam leaned in and pressed his lips to mine. They we soft but eager and rough. To my surprise, I kissed him back. Sam used his free hand to pick me up and place me on the counter. Sam's hands slowly trailed down my chest and he began to unbutton my shirt. My heart began to race and I knew I had to stop the kiss. I couldn't. My body was craving the attention and need. I haven't had this in so long. I let my hands be the guide. I found myself also un-doing Sam's shirt as well. Then Sam's phone rang, pulling me back to reality.
"Um," I said. I slowly slid off the counter and started to do up my shirt. "I should go and check in on Dean." I turned away to leave but Sam ignored his phone.
"YN," He said. I turned around and he looked different. Pleased? A bit happier? He was shirtless after all. "Um, the list." He picked up the paper and pen but I knew better.
"I'll text it to you," I quickly turned and made my way back to Dean's room. I knew that if I were to walk in his direction and right back to him, more clothes would come off. I didn't want to do that to Sam. No when I didn't feel the same way. How do you tell someone that you're in love with their brother after you full out made out with them?
I couldn't stop thinking about that kiss. There was a lot of passion behind it. I guess I always knew that Sam had something for me and I thought I did too. Back when I first saw him. Sam was always easy to talk to. But the one thing that always got in the way was Lucas. Sam reminded me so much of Lucas that it was like loosing him all over again. I didn't want to be reminded of him all the time. I guess that is why I can't feel the same way that he feels about me. Also, I'm in love with Dean.
I looked into Deans doorway and watched his breathing. What if I loose this man too? He doesn't even know how I feel about him. Not yet anyway. I walked into this room and sat on the foot of his bed.
My life turned around when I was kidnapped by that vampire. The same vampire that killed Lucas and wanted to turn me. Dean and Sam saved me of course and brought me home. It took a month until I found my fathers locked chest of files and cases he worked before he suddenly died.
Dean groaned a bit and I felt him move a little. I turned around and he was still sleeping. But this was a sign. This was good. "Dean," I got up and went to the head of the bed. "Dean, can you hear me?" Dean groaned again and this time he raised his hand and rubbed his eyes. "Dean!"
"Dude," he groaned. His eyes opened and there were those green eyes I loved so much. "How long was I out?" He looked at me and I smiled.
"About a week," I told him and helped him up into a sitting position. "If it weren't for Cas, you would be dead dead. How's your side?"
Dean looks down and un buttons his shirt, I look down at his healing would. It looked ninety time better than when i saw it a week ago. The wound that was once an open gash bleeding everywhere was now a nice little pink line. "How does it feel?" I asked him. I was afraid to touch it.
"Well," Dean went and touched it and i saw the wince in his face. "I'm not dead. That's the good part." Dean smiled. "So I was really out for a week? Must have been that bad."
"You have no idea," I said sitting on the edge of his bed. "After you guys left Cas and I behind, we sat for a bit until Cas got a feeling that something was wrong. Then all of sudden he vanished and the next second, Sam was dragging you. Almost lifeless. I sat in the back seat with you trying to stop the bleeding. Then Cas came back and fixed you up." I stopped because I didn't want to tell Dean that I begged for him to stay because I loved him.
"Where's Cas right now?" Dean asked.
I laughed a little bit. "Well this past week was hell for me and Sam," I started to say.
"Oh please tell me you didn't sleep with him!" Dean looked repulsed at the thought.
"Are you kidding me?!" I asked him. "What makes you think that I slept with your brother?! We fought and yelled a lot, sometimes we took it out on Cas. Cas left and only checks in once a day to see how you're doing." I got up and looked. "Want me to make you something to eat?"
"Dude," He looked at me with a smile on his face and in his eyes. "Hook me up!"
I walk back to the kitchen and look for something other than a sandwich to make. Sam and I ate the last of the bacon and pancakes this morning. I ate the last microwave meal a few hours ago. We are horrible at keeping a stocked kitchen when Dean is in a coma. Not that he is always in a coma. I pull stuff out for Dean favorite sandwich and began to make it. I barely got mayonnaise on the bread when I heard the bunker door open. Sam was back.
Sam entered the kitchen with a few bags on his arms. "Did it all in one trip," he smiled at me. He noticed the sandwich I was making. "Dean woke up?" I nodded as I put the finishing touches on the sandwich. Sam set the bags down and slowly walked around the counter.
I felt Sam's hands on my waist and I instantly pulled away from him. "I'm sorry Sam," I say walking away from him. "I can't do this."
"Why not?" he asked. I could see the love and hunger in his eyes. Part of me needed that but not with Sam.
"Because I don't feel that way about you," I blurted out. "It was just a kiss. It didn't mean anything. In fact, I'm in love with your brother." I began to walk out of the kitchen when Sam sighed.
"How can you love him when you were trying to rip my clothes off?" He asked after me. But I ignored him because I, too, was wondering the same thing.
I want to tell you all a true story. None of this is fabricated or exaggerated. I'm not going to give every single detail because this will already be a long post. I want to tell you a true story about the love of my life:
When you're a hitch-hiker, life is completely different from how normal people live it. You learn to live and survive completely off of the kindness of strangers and have to roll with whatever the universe decides to throw at you that day. Everything can change, you're life could be in danger if you make a bad decision.
By the time I'd reached Taos, NM my money was completely spent. I was out of real food and the only thing I had to eat for three days were some homemade pot cookies that I had been rationing because I needed SOMETHING to eat. I had been sitting out on the sidewalk next to a Walmart flying a sign so I could get enough change to buy myself something substantial to eat.
While I was sitting there with a cardboard sign that said "Spare some change to fuel my rocket ship" (it was my favorite sign and people typically threw me whatever they could because they found it amusing) a guy about my age walked over to me. He introduced himself as "Tex." His hair was blond and shaved down into a military style cut, his eyes were the same green-blue as mine, and he was about 5'11. He asked if I was a traveler. I told him I was and he explained to me that he was as well and that he was on his way to The National Rainbow Gathering. That was my destination as well. He asked how long I'd been in Taos to which I replied I'd only just arrived that day.
By this time I'd made enough change to walk over to McDonald's and grab myself a couple cheeseburgers so he offered to walk with me. We talked about our travels, he was here from Austin, TX, this was his first time hitch-hiking too, his dad had passed away from cancer and when that happened he decided to hit the road and find himself. We ate lunch together. I told him my story. How I had been horribly depressed and living alone in my own apartment when a couple of my friends had showed up from Iowa to ask if I wanted to travel. Little did they know I was about to overdose and had everything set up to do so. Part way through our journey we decided to split up and race to the Gathering.
"So you're alone then?" he asked, wolfing down his large fries.
"Yeah," I replied. "Aren't we all though?"
There was something in that moment when he looked at me. A kind of quiet stillness. He saw through the facade of a joke I'd made. He saw I wasn't just talking about traveling and he saw that I was terribly, agonizingly alone I was. Either that or I'm just projecting because it was exactly what I saw in him too. We made an agreement that moment, not with words, there were none, just silence. We would travel the rest of the way to the gathering together.
After our lunch he asked if I'd like to walk around town with him. Taos is a beautiful little town. To the east there were mountains and to the west nothing but desert and mesa. We'd spent the whole day just walking around, looking at all the little touristy shops. Joking, laughing, at one point we flew a sign together to get some dinner and ate it picnic style in the middle of Taos Plaza where there was a free jazz show being played. While we were sitting there a man came over to us. He introduced himself to us and asked if we had been flying a sign outside of Walmart. I told him we had and then he asked where we were staying.
"We haven't actually figured that out yet. Probably in a park." Tex told the man.
The guys smiled, "Not tonight you're not. I'm staying over at the Sun God Inn for the next two weeks while I'm here on business and I have a spare bed. If you two need a place to rest your head later you can come down."
Tex and I thanked this stranger profusely and he told us what room he was in. He sat with us a bit longer before deciding he'd had enough of the free concert and wanted to go back to his room.
"You two enjoy your evening and just come knocking when you need."
After the man left, Tex and I stayed listening to the music. The sun had started to set and I remember thinking that New Mexico sunsets were far more beautiful than any other place I'd been. Tex stood up and shyly smiled then asked, "So I know you're not really a girl.... and that's okay with me.... and I'm Bisexual.... and I ain't that good at this sort of thing.... but would you maybe like to dance with me?"
My heart stopped. I was a little wounded about the "not really a girl" but it didn't matter because he meant well. I recall looking up at him and saying "I only know how to dance like a stripper." He laughed. With a gloved hand he took mine, pulled me to me feet, then insisted that I dance with him. I protested a bit giving him a million reasons why I can't dance before he said "Who cares? None of these people are going to see us again." He was right.
We spent maybe half an hour slow dancing in the plaza, under the burnt orange sky of the setting sun. I remember thinking this was the most incredible thing that's ever happened. He was so cute, definitely dirty but then again so was I since it'd been at least a week since my last shower. It didn't matter. I was happy, and his eyes were the most beautiful eye's I'd ever seen. The whole day had been amazing.
After the music stopped he asked if I was tired yet. I told him I wasn't so he asked if I wanted to go sit in the park. I remembered that I'd had a few more o those pot cookies left over so I suggested we could go down to Kit Carson Memorial Park and eat them. That's what we ended up doing. It was there on a picnic table under the stars where we were talking and stoned out of our minds when he grabbed my hand then very slowly leaned in and gave me our first kiss. To this day, no other kiss could ever compare.
After making out in the park for a bit we decided to go and sleep at the Inn the man had told us he was at. When we got there we knocked on the door. He was pretty drunk and welcomed us warmly. We stayed up for a while talking to him, telling the man about our travels, where we were going, talking about our lives, until he eventually decided to go to sleep. He gave us the remote and told us we could shower. So I showered first (it'd been so long I forgot how good they felt) and then Tex took one after me. I was laying under the covers flipping through channels while our host was sleeping in the other bed.
When Tex got out of the shower wearing just his boxer-briefs I stared at him in silent adoration. Shit, I was really developing some incredibly strong feelings for this guy. There wasn't a single thing about him I could find off putting or unattractive. That night he fell asleep holding me with his face in my hair.
When we woke up the next morning, our host had gone out and left us some coffee and donuts before he went wherever he had to go. There was also a note that said "Feel free to stay however long you need. There are some mushrooms in the nightstand. Be back later. Enjoy! ;)"
A lot of that day in the room was a blur but there were a few notable moments that I still recall. For instance while we were tripping I was laying on the bed holding hands with him and it felt like our life forces were melding, merging, our souls were one, we were one, and he told me this was how it was always supposed to be. Us against the world. I remember giggling when the Native American Shaman in the ceiling agreed with us. I remember giggling when we shut off the lights then removed the lamp shades from the lamps then placed them on our heads, playing some weird version of peek-a-boo. Finally, as we were coming down we held eachother and he said "Did you know I've loved you my entire life?" and I replied "Yes, because I've loved you my entire life."
Our host returned later that night, he was drunk again and we'd spent the day cuddling and talking in bed. Our host said something before he passed out that unnerved me a little but I brushed it off as just flattery, he said "You're a lucky man Tex. You're girlfriend is one hell of a catch." He then went on to tell us we were welcome to stay however long he needed.
The next day we woke up and decided to wander town. There's so many details I'm leaving out, but that's okay, I can't forget any of it. We were in love with eachother's souls that's all that matters right? At one point that day after we had spanged up enough money to eat lunch we were walking through town when we came across a bicycle at the park sitting unchained.
"You wanna borrow that?" Tex asked.
"Borrow? What do you mean? You mean steal it?" I asked nervously.
"No not steal! We're just going to borrow it then we'll bring it back."
Before I could say no he hopped on the bike and had me sit on the handle bars. It was terrifying yet exhilarating at the same time. We rode around town on the bike for a couple hours before my anxiety took over and I told him we needed to return the bike. So we did, and I was high on being a bad criminal that returns their stolen goods. No harm no foul. Again we slept at the motel, but that night our host busted out a guitar and played us classic rock songs while we sang along.
The next day Tex woke me up and said, "Hey I'm going to go down to Walmart and fly a sign. I'll be back in a few hours if that's okay." Our host had given us a key card to the room. I said that was alright and that I was just going to just hang out in the room because it was so hot outside. He kissed me, told me he loved me, and left.
About an hour later our host returned unexpectedly. He was drunk. More drunk than I'd seen him previously. I don't wanna go to into detail about what happened next but he said again "That boyfriend of yours is one lucky man" and then started to force himself on me. I was terrified, this man was bigger than me, stronger than me, and I was in such a state of shock that all I could do to fight back was to scream at him. Tex came back while this was all happening. I've never seen anyone get the shit beat out of them like that in my life, but Tex ripped the man off of me and kicked his ass. I was still shaken and he instructed me to grab my backpack. Our host was sitting bloodied and beaten against a wall and I watched as Tex grabbed his wallet, pulled out a hundred dollar bill, then threw the wallet at the man.
We left the room. I was still shaking and Tex did everything he could to calm me down, making sure I was alright, asking me if I needed anything, and kept repeating "I love you, I'm sorry, I love you." We made our way down the main strip and used the hundred dollar bill to get us a room in a different hotel for the night. We agreed that our time in Taos was over and that tomorrow we would head out of town for The Rainbow Gathering. We spent the night together, him consoling me after I had bandaged up his knuckles. We made love that night. He asked me if I'd marry him. I said yes. He said we'd do it tomorrow.
The next morning we caught a ride out of Taos and had our ride drop us off at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge on U.S. Highway 68. We stood over the gorge hand in hand. There were other tourists on the bridge but we payed no notice to them. He turned to me after we stood in silence together and we had a mock ceremony. We made up vows on the spot, and we each other's hands with a knife then allowed our blood to mix and fall to the gorge below stating that blood is bond. We were happy.
After our little private ceremony we caught a ride west with a couple of guys who had been going by the bridge. They drove us all the way out to this crossroads outside of Tres Piedras. It had started to rain so we took shelter in a rusted car that was filled with trash sitting next to an abandoned gas station. It wasn't the ideal honeymoon spot but we were happy regardless. We spent the day in the car, we ate some dry ramen blocks, and finished the rest of my pot cookies. We were entirely happy.
The next day we woke up in the car and there was a Winnebago parked across the street with a woman sitting at a table outside of it. I decided to see what was going on so I got out of the car with no shoes on and started to walk over. I mis-stepped and stubbed my big toe, ripping all but a couple layers of flesh off of it. It was absolutely excruciating. I hobbled my way over to the woman who looked to be in her mid-forties. She was incredibly rude and very stuck up. I asked if she had any bands aids and she said no, so I asked if she had any paper towel, and she told me I'd have to pay fifty cents per piece. I was angry but since I didn't have an option I did so. I hobbled back over to the car and Tex woke up when I got in. I asked him if he had any tape or rubberband and he didn't so he rummaged through the random trash in the backseat and thankfully found a green rubberband wrapped around an old newspaper. He took the paper towel and folded it around my toe then wrapped it in place with the rubberband. It wasn't much but that's all we could do.
We spent the rest of the day sitting in the car. We figured out pretty quick that we were in a pretty bad position. The entire time we'd been there not a single car had passed. I remember saying, "If we die out here I'm glad we'll be doing it together." He smiled and kissed me on the lips, "I'm sure we won't die but I agree." The whole day passed by and we spent it talking, making out, talking some more. Just when we were about to give up hope of getting picked up and were preparing to figure out where the nearest town was, a pick up truck pulled into the abandoned gas station. Tex jumped out of the car and went running over to the passenger window. He talked to whoever it was then half skipped half run with the goofiest smile on his face. "Grab your stuff, babe, they're going to the gathering too!" I was so excited that I left my camera in the car and didn't realize it until we were already on the way.
The two men who gave us a ride were going to stay the night with an old friend of theirs and told us we were welcome to stay too. Tex and I were so happy to sleep in a real bed after having been in that car for so long. As soon as we got in bed together and cuddled up we fell right to sleep. I remember the next morning waking up to him laying next to me with a smile. He'd said he'd been awake for a bit and was just watching me sleep. It was the sweetest thing I'd heard. I nuzzled him and told him I loved him. We layed in bed snuggled up, enjoying the silent bond we both shared. After a while a knock came at the door and the younger of the two men said it was time to leave. So we got up, grabbed our bags and made our way out to the truck. Our hands were practically glued together the whole way except when we were passing joints with the other guys.
Once we got to our destination we were both incredibly stoned out of our minds. What happened next, is difficult to describe unless you've been to one of these gatherings. There are THOUSANDS of people and it's easy to get lost. We hadn't set up camp yet and I really had to pee so I went to find the communal piss ditch. We made our way to the trading circle which wasn't so much a circle as it was a road. He had stopped to look at something that someone was trying to trade. I asked him if he minded if I tried to find the ditch.
He smiled his beautiful smile and said, "Not at all, babe, I'll come find you when I'm done here."
"Okay." I said dancing from one foot to the next. Before I could turn around he pulled me close to him and gave me a kiss. I can still feel it as if it just happened.
"I love you more than you could know. And when I'm done we'll go set up camp and have a real honeymoon."
I told him I loved him too, that I'd see him in a few minutes. I eventually found the ditch and did my business. I stood at the end of the path that led to it waiting for him. He never showed. So after a while I went looking for him. I never saw him again.
Several years later I started asking around about him. Last night I found out Tex had passed away a couple years ago. He had been train hopping with another traveler. He tried to get off of a train and misjudged the speed as well as the jump. This traveler told me he was married, that he had fallen in-love and they got married a few days after meeting in Taos. That she was his soulmate. They got separated at the rainbow gathering and no matter how much or how hard he looked he could never find her again. He held out hope until the very end that we would be brought back together.
My heart aches. My soul weeps. RIP Tex. RIP My Soulmate.
