My Broken Pen

A pen is mightier than a sword, they say.

I neither knew how to play the death game,

Nor I could hold the sword.

The pen was my power,

But then it seemed astrayed.

It wandered off the golden pages.

Whenever I sit to write,

It played a sword,

Ripping off the sheets into two bare halves,

One my body and another my heart.

Surviving on strife within,

Trapped and trammeled,

In my caged body I could neither escape.

Nor could I sanctify my mind,

With the virtue, that was once embodied in me.

Now the ink too dried up,

Leaving my heart in a drought land.

It no more flows like it used to,

I could no longer wing my words.

Their wings had been cut from my roots.

Every woe was sheltered in me,

Like a cold war being fought,

Inside this caged bird,

That once took great flights.

Even my legs were left too numb to storm off.

The war roared me up,

Throwing me to the wolves,

But I returned with the pack to the promised land,

With diamond embeds in my body,

Too strong to poison the war.

I’ve spent so many nights wondering why I wasn’t good enough for my friends. Being excluded and left out. Them not being there for me when I needed someone the most, despite saying they’ll always be there for me. But some people aren’t meant to be in your life. If they’re not willing to help you in your worst moments then they’re not really down for you. Remove toxic people from your life and cherish the people who are really down for you.
