#let dick grayson be traumatized challenge

Text
thinking about dick grayson going mute after everything with blockbuster and tarantula in blüdhaven
first, haly’s circus is burned down by blockbuster who found out dick’s identity. then he targets dick’s apartment and blows it up, killing a bunch of innocent people
then, well. catalina kills blockbuster in front of dick and then r*pes him. and then, later on, the entire city is destroyed, killing thousands of people
so, yeah, i think it’d make sense if that traumatized him enough to become mute. that kind of trauma would definitely have a heavy psychological impact on him
anyway, this all just to say: let dick’s trauma have actual impacts on him psychologically thx
(i am writing smth based on this btw if anyone cares)
(also yes technically the same could be said for every batfamily member but im focusing on dick rn because he’s my favorite. i might do something for the others later on tho)

pls tell us more about ur headcanons for battinson acquiring a robin 👀🥺
oh YES. here we go:
-i think bruce starts to engage in Society and this means galas, parties, and dates, while he's cleaning up the renewal fund
-he takes a date to the circus, and immediately forgets her when the graysons fall. all he can see is Dick Grayson, eyes wide, watching from the shadows. she has to get another ride home
-he doesn't just vanish with Dick. i think he leaps the barricade and gets Dick to stop staring.
-He sticks like glue to Dick's side. he doesn't just take him home-- he's there for hours, through the police tape, the statements. the circus is cleared out, and he stays there. Dick barely notices him until Bruce cuts in to stop a police officer from questioning him again.
-Dick wants to see the bodies and Bruce fights for him to get to see them one more time. He understands.
-The police are confused about what to do with Dick-- the circus aren't bio family, they can't seem to find anyone, and the fallback plan is social services until they can track down relatives for Dick.
-Dick vanishes
-Bruce and Pop Haley find him with the elephants. Bruce says he'll take him home, because this version of Bruce was traumatized by Riddler's orphanage trauma, and he can't watch that happen to someone else-- even if the orphanage isn't even there anymore.
-Haley urges Dick to go with him, because he knows about the corruption and is afraid for Dick.
-Bruce basically just tells the police he's taking Dick home. He bullshits a lie about Dick being a distant relative and nobody wants to challenge him.
-Dick is shellshocked for a day or two and then spends the next week attempting to run away, not to the circus, but to find the men he overheard threatening his parents
-He gets as far as inner Gotham once and Batman finds him on a very high roof. Bruce's panic is not insignificant.
-Dick immediately tries to bargain with Batman into helping him find and kill the men. Batman refuses, and Dick has a savage, trauma and grief-fueled breakdown on him. Batman takes him back to the Manor and Alfred.
-Bruce returns via the cave. Dick takes about two seconds to identify the blooming bruise he left on Bruce's cheek. He's figured it out.
-Dick, when not running away, is a mess-- he's having crying fits, sullen and withdrawn periods, or manic hyper and climbing everything and talking constantly. Bruce is getting him to eat, listening when he talks, and holding him when he cries. Dick does not seem to understand personal space, and Bruce is letting him set the boundary lines. If Dick wants to climb on his back or hang from his neck, then Dick gets to do that.
-Dick has decided Batman will help capture the men and Tony Zucco. He needs a costume for this. Batman agrees to let him ride in the car, that's it. It's also going to be CAPTURE, not murder, Dick.
-Dick does not stay in the car.
-Dick does not murder anyone but he's pretty close.
-Dick announces the next morning that he can't wait to see who they capture next.
-Bruce has a child now. It's too late to back out.
-The child keeps falling asleep on his shoulder.
-Alfred has Opinions until he sees Dick on the trapeze equipment Bruce installs for him.
-There is no normal way for Dick Grayson to burn off his energy, and having a way to help people is beating back the withdrawn grief.
-Robin becomes a fixture beside Batman. Most of what he does is non-violent helping, but he can hold his own in a fight.
-Bruce eats a lot more ice cream.
-Bruce's playlist shuffle now has MCR and the The Fox What Does the Fox Say and Baby Shark.
-Baby Bruce Doot Doot Doo Doo
-Baby Dick Doot Doot Doot
-Brucester that isn't even how it goes you're doing it wrong

Batman, Trauma, Growth, and Under the Red Hood
Why is Batman's origin so good, why do so many people mess him up so much, it's because they don't get it!!
All of the Batman heroes from Bats to Spoiler to Damian have a purpose with their trauma, they grow because they learn that it is not violence and more trauma that makes them human but love and gentleness. Batman isn't a hero because he beats the shit out of homeless people like some fucknuts believe, he's a hero because he's the one person on the top left who still cares about Gotham over his bottom line! His progression as a character isn't that he goes toe to toe with the Joker who's supposedly his "other side of the same coin" its because he realizes that family and bonds and friends and kindness is the only thing that could possibly help. It's the entire fucking point!!!!
And that's why the Red Hood and UTRH is also fucking amazing because it not only ties into Batmans story, it gives a character with a lot of trauma AGENCY and we are able to sympathize with Jason because everyone can fucking imagine a time when they felt abandoned and alone and entitled to something but not receiving it. The point of UTRH isn't hur dur Batman is good because he doesn't kill the point of UTRH is that Batman had to choose between continuing the cycle that shit ass writers like Frank Miller and Tom the FBI Guy push him into where it's just violence and torture and yeah he doesn't kill them but he fucking cripples them anyway.
You think Dick Grayson using literal cattle prods on people does nothing? They just get up fine the next day? Batman beating someone's skull into the concrete but making sure he's still breathing is somehow moral?
Because that's what those stupid authors believe and UTRH challenged that!! It made Jason, poor little Jason who was 17 at the time of UTRH, who'd been killed after trying to save the woman who should have loved him, who's grave didn't say anything but fucking "good soldier", who was forgotten by his friends, who's mantle was passed down 6 months later, who grieved for the boy he once was, ask Batman to choose. Fucking choose.
Him or me?
The cycle of pointless violence which does nothing at all to help Gotham or compassion, love, loyalty, the promise all parents make their children?
Because don't parents say they'd go to the ends of the Earth for their child? The mama bear, the shotgun father?
And Batman chose, Judd Winick knew the choice he'd make all along, he predicted the route Batman comics would take in the upcoming years and Batman fucking killed Jason instead of the Joker.
Tumblr users don't get that choice and how traumatizing it is but he fucking chose to not only leave Barbara's paralyzing unavenged, he not only chose to abandon Dick in Bludhaven right after it was nuked, he not only chose to forsake the graveyards that the Joker has filled personally, he abandoned the kid he already fucking failed to save for his stupid and senseless moral code that barely holds water anymore, if it ever did in the first place.
And THAT is what Under the Red Hood is about.
(and before people go "But capital punishment is wrong!!1!1!" i know it is bro, but this is a comic book where literally every aspect is a means to get the message of the story across, and there is a literal killer clown. let's not throw away suspension of disbelief too much.)

by Chaotrope
“How am I supposed to be a hero when I am this…” Bart stopped again looking for the right word. “Furious.”
“Bart, I can’t imagine the things that you have gone through.” Dick kept his eyes fixed on the window. “None of us can. But I know a thing or two about being angry.”
Or:
Dick Grayson knows that the seven step process to grief is a load of bs. He knows that trauma takes a different form for every person. If only he could get his husband's little cousin to understand this.

Ok so I'm SO here for a Reevesverse Robin, but I think it should take a much different form than traditional Batman & Robin stories. If Dick, or any Robin, is introduced in the films that relationship should develop more with Bruce Wayne than Batman.
We have a potential partner for Batman in Catwoman, already set up. On god, there's so much potential in Bruce/Batman learning what it is like to work consistently with a partner through Selina/Catwoman rather than a literal child like Dick/Robin. I want this so bad for The Batman sequels bro.
I'm relatively convinced they'll introduce a Robin in this series, largely because they've set up a Batman who is willing to learn/grow within the movie's runtime and who has deep emotional struggles regarding his personal relationships. Following up "sins of the father" with Bruce dealing with the aftermath of his father's mistake while also giving him his own son to consider is a great idea I hope they go with. Bruce will have to think about what sins his son will now have to live with.
Bruce clearly needs to learn what partnership is and what it entails, but no vigilante in his 30's has an equal partnership with the traumatized, prepubescent kid he's teaching. Bruce has already learned that Vengeance, the thing that baby Dick Grayson thirsts for when pushing to be Robin, isn't helpful anyway. There's a lot of room for a relationship with Dick that is actually mutually beneficial that still leads to Robin, but over time rather than... employing a kid sidekick.
Like, yeah, Bruce does need help and he does need to be challenged on his tactics in the field. training a kid shouldn't be his journey into maturity, though. The movie's already set up Selina as a hugely impactful character who directly cultivates Bruce's development, so why not work toward a harmonious BatCat working (and romantic) relationship? It leaves room for Bruce to learn different lessons - such as how to develop the father-son relationship he never really got to enjoy (with Dick and with Alfred), how to create the family he's always longed for, how to express himself emotionally in a way that is actually fulfilling - with Dick at the same time he's learning how to be a better vigilante/over-all person with Selina.
Let Dick grow up better than Bruce, with more healthy resources. Let him develop into an ultimately better Gotham hero than Bruce could ever be because he has a father-figure that understands him and actually helps him not repeat the mistakes that Bruce made. In a Batman story about Hope, Bruce being resolute in doing better for his Robin makes sense.

This Wouldn't Be An Issue... - Batfam x Reader
Tumblr media
(gif credit!)
Words: 1272 Pairing: Batfam & Reader Featuring: Bruce Wayne, Tim Drake, Dick Grayson, Alfred Pennyworth, Joker Warnings: Mentions death (not graphic, but it is discussed), mentions revival, probably some ooc bruce Summary: After finding out that Joker is dead, you are a bit relieved. Upon finding out Joker is alive again, you're a bit angrier at a certain someone dressed as a bat. Author's Note: This is based on the comic when Nightwing killed Joker! It was after he thought Joker killed Tim, and Bruce ends up bringing Joker back to life. I have not read the whole comic, but I did read a post rundown about it (link!). This is a crackfic because man I would love to just make fun of Bruce and piss him off. Also, I don't go into background about the reader, so you can have your own idea of how you joined the teaam/batfam!
This is another fic for girl-next-door-writes 's Bingo challenge! This is for the crack square (like i said above lol)
DC / Bingo / Full Masterlist
---
It was a little tense between Gotham's heroes. There has been a lot of emotions lately with everyone; worry, grief, scared, relief, and a bit of anger.
After all the pain Joker has put everyone through over the past few years, it was safe to say everyone was tired of it and didn't know how to keep him at bay. When the team heard that Joker killed another Robin, no one knew how to act.
You found out from Bruce and Tim (who wasn't actually dead) that Dick killed Joker. Hearing that Joker killed Tim sent Dick over the edge, and his anger got the best of him. Though it was a traumatic experience for everyone involved, you were a bit relieved that Joker's shenanigans were finally over.
Not having to deal with Joker hurting anyone else felt like a weight was lifted. Dick felt guilty, but you tried to take his mind off everything, and you told him that this would save more people in the long run. You were also thrilled that Tim was still alive; you wouldn't know how to function without him. And without Joker around, maybe the job would be a little easier on everyone.
But those thoughts were pushed out of your head almost as quickly as they came into it. While sitting in the Cave, talking to Tim and Dick, Batman called in to tell you three that everything is okay. He didn't want Dick to live with the guilt and Joker's death on his conscience, and Joker is alive.
Initially, you blew up at him, but it wasn't like anyone could re-kill the Joker again. Plus, he was already being treated back in Arkham before Bruce told you guys.
Now, it's been a few weeks of Joker locked in Arkham, Dick was back in Blüdhaven and working with Barbara, and you and Tim were still patrolling with Batman. Even if you are still mad at him, you have to let it go to get your work done.
Though there was still some tension between you and Bruce, Tim helped mediate the conversations between you two so the Team could get everything done that needed to be done. Patrol, reports, and even communicating, Tim was there to help. He knew you were upset with Bruce, but he also knew that Bruce wouldn't understand why and just wanted everything to be back to normal.
Tonight, Tim was stuck doing schoolwork elsewhere, so it was just you, Bruce, and Alfred in the cave. You were going to go out to patrol with him, but Bruce told you he could handle it by himself tonight, and you could stay back and watch the computer and get your homework done. Part of you still wanted to go out, but you weren't sure if it was smart to do so without Tim there to keep you on track.
You worked on some random homework while Bruce was typing away on the Bat Computer. You weren't entirely sure what he was working on, but right now, it didn't involve you, so you didn't ask. He'd be leaving soon, so the weird vibes in the Cave would be gone. Not soon enough, but you were able to focus on your work and ignore the weirdness.
As Bruce was typing, an alarm went off that called Bruce's attention away from whatever he was doing. You looked up and over at the computer, but Bruce had already stood up and pulled his cowl on before you could see what the alert said.
"Who is it?" You called over.
Bruce was about to get in the Batmobile. "Didn't say, just someone out of Arkham. I'm sure Gordon will have a rundown for me," Bruce looked at you. Once you nodded, Bruce got in the Batmobile and sped out of the Batcave.
You quickly pushed your homework aside and moved over to sit in front of the Bat-Computer so you could listen to Bruce and see what he was doing. You watched the tracker of the Batmobile, making quick turns and stopping where the alert was coming from.
"Who is it?" You asked again into the comms when Batman arrived at the scene.
He didn't reply, which only frustrated you more. Even if you weren't out there with Batman, you still wanted to know what was going on! He's had how many partners and still doesn't understand that? You heard some sounds, but none of them were what you were looking for. After he huffed a few times, he said your code name.
"Yeah?" You replied immediately.
"May need you to get down here," Batman replied.
"What's going on?" You asked.
Batman really didn't want to tell you due to the tension that has been on the team recently. But he also knew if you didn't get a heads up, you'd be even madder. "Joker and goons. Just need the backup to watch the goons."
"Oh," You said and slumped back in the chair with an evil smile. "Yeah, no."
"Seriously?" Batman groaned, and you heard another grunt come through, probably a goon being punched.
Alfred was walking up behind you to listen to the conversation. "Yeah, that sounds like a you problem," You continued.
"If Robin were here, he'd help me," Batman tried to get under your skin.
"It's a shame he isn't here tonight, then. You know, B, this wouldn't be an issue if you just let Joker stay dead. You wouldn't be fighting Joker goons, and there wouldn't even be a Joker breakout at Arkham. Again."
Batman grunted again. "We are not discussing that right now! You know my stance."
"And you know mine. You brought him back; he's your problem; you deal with it. I was perfectly fine letting Joker stay dead for all the things he's done. And now, hopefully, you can see that it would have been smart to just let things that happened happen," You said sarcastically. You knew this would make Bruce mad, but sometimes, it was just too easy.
There were a few moments where Batman didn't say anything, and after some more swishes of wind coming through the comms, it got quiet. "Nevermind," Batman said, and before you could respond, the comms went dead.
"You know," Alfred said from behind you. "I think there was a better way you could have handled that."
You turned around quickly to face Alfred. "Oh, come on. You agree that Bruce shouldn't have brought Joker back, right? This is his own fault," You crossed your arms.
"It does not matter what I think; what's done is done," Alfred told you. "I don't think Master Bruce was expecting Joker to recover so quickly and make a break for it, though. But it would have been nice for you to help him."
"He had to give Joker mouth-to-mouth, Alfred. I wouldn't for a second think about doing that! Besides, for all the people Joker hurt, maybe it was time," You complained.
Alfred nodded, as he did see it from your point of view as well. "Yes, I understand. Joker is a bad person, I agree. But maybe give Master Bruce a bit of a break?"
You thought for a minute, then sighed. "Just a little one. But I'm not going to stop making fun of him; it's just too much fun."
A smile cracked on Alfred's face. "I wouldn't expect anything less."
You tore away from the conversation when your phone went off and looked to see who the message was from.
Tim: Heard Joker broke out of Arkham again. How'd that go with Bruce?
(Y/N): I bet you can guess.

Death and Rebirth Jason Todd-Centric Fanfic
This fic includes:
Jason Todd stealing Bat-mobile's tires to let Bruce know he's alive. Then being chased to get caught the same way they first met.
Baby!Damian.
Baby!Damian challenging the goddamn Batman because he's Damian.
Dick Grayson, for once, being the traumatized boy he is and not some sunshine who is perfectly fine.
Tim and Damian bonding
Tim obliterating the "A Good Soldier" memorial for Jason.
Bruce slowly building better relationships and taking care of his kids + recognizing everything Dick has done for Bat-family.
Dick Grayson adoring how Damian is so small, such a toddler, and yet giving Bruce the (mini)Bat-glare.
Damian being the splitting image of Talia, so much so that Bruce recognizes that he is Talia's son.
This is an on-going story, more will be added.
PS. It's mid-term season so I won't be updating this as consistently as I'd like to but even if it is months between updates, this fic will not be abandoned-I worked too hard on this.

WIP Challenge
Thank you @irolltwenties for the tag ♥
WIP Challenge 😁❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍❤😁🤩🤩
Rules: tell us the titles of all the WIPs you are currently working on right now and a little about them. Then tag five other writers.
I am... only going to include WIPs I've actively worked on in recent memory or that are supposed to be coming up soon, because otherwise, we'll be here all day. Also, what are titles before posting? You can have the GDoc titles XD
[Warning for rape mentions and incest mentions]
JayTimWeek Fic - Day 2
A BDSM AU, with Dom!Tim and sub!Jay.
Tim has been Jason's most stable and preferred partner for being regularly put down, but it's always been platonic. In fact, Jason hasn't done a sexual scene in years and years, and the ones he has done haven't really been consensual. But his feelings for Tim have been changing, and he's been thinking about taking that step... only he has no idea how Tim feels about him.
JayDickWeek Day 1: Jealousy/Protectiveness
One of two installments that I'm hoping to get out for my dna verse between this event and OJTW (if I don't finish them in time for JDW). This one is set probably a month or two into the pregnancy, and Dick has gotten weird about letting Jason leave the apartment "because Bludhaven is so unsafe, and I just can’t stand you going out like this, Jay. I’m sorry, my instincts are just going haywire with wanting to keep you both safe." Finally, he caves and agrees to a weekend at the Manor to appease Jason.
But then he gets jealous when Jason lets Damian nurse from him, which kind of sets up the second story I want to write.
JayDickWeek Day 4: A/O/B
The second dna verse fic I'm working on. This one is likely to be much longer, so I'm worried about time constraints. It follows probably less than a month after the one I just talked about, and is essentially just Dick's not-so-slow descent into being That Kind of Alpha. You know, the kind he promised he'd never be? Yeah.
JayDickWeek Day 5: Never Adopted
Jason is a college-aged Omega, who was attacked by a serial killer who has been raping and murdering male Omegas. He manages to kill the Alpha in self-defense before he's murdered (but after he's been raped), and it's Nightwing who finds him. Dick finds out it's not the first time he's saved Jason and that Jason grew up in a boys' home run by the Martha Wayne Foundation. He takes an interest, initially as Nightwing, checking in and making sure Jason's okay, etc.
Then he starts showing up as Dick, and I'm looking forward to playing with identity issues. Can't wait for Jason to go to Nightwing and confide how he's scared that he has a stalker and that that stalker is Dick Grayson. Also thinking about making him a med student and having him be friendly with Steph/having Dick ask Steph to befriend him because he’s just so worried about this poor, traumatized, packless Omega.
JayDicksequel
The mythical sequel to my JayDick pet play fic that I've been insisting will exist for far too long now. Theoretically, it's supposed to be their first attempt at a 24-hour scene. Or, well. 24-hours, less vigilante time.
OJTW Day 2: Ra'sJay Sequel
A follow-up to the Ra'sJay thing I wrote during kinkmas. It's a 4 + 1 of Jason's heats, with the +1 being the truth about the heat where Ra's claimed him.
OJTW Day 7: Incest Kink
Probably going to use this to write a JayDick thing that's been Haunting me. It's pretty heavy on both breeding and incest kink. Hopefully I can keep this one on the shorter side, because it should just be a single sex scene. I just want to write Dick talking about breeding Jason until his womb breaks and then keeping him around to be their pups' practice omega 🥺
ra'sjaytim aob thing
Something I've been picking at for a while and am now hoping to finish in time for Day 6 of Ra'sBat Week. Basically, it's set post RHATO 25, except Roy never saved Jason and, instead, Batman left him on the streets, outside city limits, while he was going into a critical heat from the beating/breaking pack bonds. Jay chose calling in the League over death or being raped and mated by whatever random Alpha(s) caught his scent or stumbled across him, even though he knew what it likely meant for him.
That's the backstory, though. The fic itself is the Batfam finding out about all this after Tim is assigned to look into rumours about there being a new Heir to The Demon. Tim, in particular, is livid, because Bruce had led him to believe that he was keeping tabs on Jason when he wasn't. Naturally, Bruce insists on showing up to take the child so Ra's can't abuse it like he did Damian, and Jason makes a counter-offer to Tim, half-inviting/half-begging Tim to stay, to be his and Ra's' beta. To help Jay raise his pups, to help Jay /protect/ his pups...
sounds so sweet, ch. 2
More JayKyle smut. Moving to the bedroom. Rough sex. Paddling. Probably some lantern constructs as sex toys. Putting Jay down deeply enough for him to rest well, and then Kyle staying awake to watch over him and wait up for Roy to confront him, which will be chapter 3.
edge of a knife, ch. 4
The final chapter of my fem!Dick kinkmeme fill. I know for sure that it starts with Dick going back to Gotham so she can go to Leslie's clinic for the morning after pill, but there are two very different ways that I've considered ending it, and I can't decide which way I want it to go - either she goes to Bruce and confides in him about what happened... or she goes back to the Tower.
Just tagging whoever feels like doing it, tbh. If you have wips, pls do it. I'm nosy 🤣

Whumptober: Day 2 - Explosion
Title: Replacement
Word Count: 1,315
Author’s Note: I posted yesterday on AO3, just not here. Something about posting on AO3 is just easier for me. My first time writing Tim as a major character and my first time even mentioning Jason in a fic. Hope I didn’t butcher anyone.
On AO3
This is what Jason experienced, Tim thought, and that was almost enough to make him laugh. Maybe he would’ve if he had the ability to, but his cracked ribs protested at the mere thought of it. Breathing by itself was a challenge, the bruised skin on his chest pulling with each stuttering inhale. He couldn’t laugh, could barely breathe, couldn’t get up and walk to safety. But he could think. Clear as day, his brain spoke to him through the fog of pain.
Jason Todd.
… Jason Todd-Wayne…
The Red Hood.
The second Robin.
His attempted murdered.
His technical brother.
How strange it was for Tim to think about the man - no. The boy. The damaged and traumatized boy -  at a time like this. He was dying. He was dying and he knew it and for some reason he was thinking about Jason. He ought to be thinking about Dick, whom he always thought about since that fateful meeting oh-so-long ago. Not in a creepy way, but after so many years of being fascinated by him - first as an acrobat and then as Robin - it had simply become second nature for Tim to think about Dick.
Ok, so maybe it was a little creepy.
Creepy or not, it would’ve made sense for Tim to think of Dick as he laid there, broken and battered and slipping away. It would also have made sense for him to think of Bruce, whom he’d changed his entire life for. Or his parents. Or his millions of nannies and loved and cared for him. Basically, it would’ve made sense to think of anyone but Jason in his final moments and yet, that’s who his brain decided to fixate on.
Jason. Jason. Jason.
Specifically, Tim was thinking about how’d he managed to do it again. He’d managed to go out and get himself into the exact situation Jason had been in. Well, maybe not the exact same but the components were all there. A rogue (this time Shiva instead of the Joker), a blunt object (a bo staff - his bo staff - instead of a crowbar), and a ticking bomb announcing just how long Tim had left on this earth. Even if the situation that put him here was different, enough was the same that people would notice. People would notice, and people would compare. It was as if Tim was destined to always be exactly where Jason was, leaving Tim to follow too big footprints his feet couldn’t fill, and Jason without a place to be.
Tim would always be Jason’s replacement. Was it any wonder the older boy hated him? The bomb made a loud beep and Tim wearily dragged his gaze to it’s flashing numbers. 01:00
00:59
00:58
00:57
His final minute. Tim sighed in acceptance. He never expected anyone to come for him. Even if they realized he was gone, he’d left no clues about where he went or why. He didn’t want to face their reaction over him meeting up with Shiva, didn’t want to explain to insecurities that led to him seeking her out for more training. Even if they had found him, there was no way Tim could explain how his plea for training led to this. He didn’t even understand it himself.
Tim’s body screamed as he heaved out a sob. He wasn’t scared. Or maybe he was and had simply forgotten what fear felt like. But he was upset. He was upset at himself, hated himself, for what he had done. He had ruined - or was going to ruin, in 45 seconds - the batfamily. Tim would become another Robin failed and Bruce would spiral into an even deeper abyss. He’d never take another Robin, not after this. He’d have no light and the Batman would fall, taking Gotham with him. And Dick. Dick Grayson, who had showed him so much kindness the day his world had fallen apart, who had saved Tim long before Robin was a thing. Is this really how Tim would thank him? By being another stain on his legacy, dying in his colors while bearing his name? By ruining Robin for Bruce and him? Tim knew Dick didn’t really want him as Robin. The man had given his blessing as a way to get rid of him. Tim knew it. But he had wanted to make Dick proud and this…
Tim had never been capable of making anyone proud.
And in a final act of selfishness, Tim would steal from Jason once more. First his title as Robin and now his title as the Dead Robin. Bruce would grieve him, would probably put his suit in a glass case, and Jason would be… what? The Forgotten Robin? Another sob racked Tim’s frame and he could barely make out the timer through his tears - 30 seconds. Suddenly Tim found himself hoping with every fiber of his broken being that this would be the end for him. Please, let him stay dead. Don’t bring him back. Don’t take that event from Jason too. Let the boy keep something for himself.
Maybe with him gone, the boy could heal and become a man.

00:19
00:18
00:17
00:16
00:15
Tim closed his eyes and rested his head on the wall he was slumped against. His body quivered as more tears slipped out but he was calm with acceptance. Even though his heart continued to scream and plead for forgiveness, his brain was finally quiet. He was okay with dying. He could hope that Bruce and Dick and Jason would be okay too.
“TIM!”
Tim’s eyes slowly opened, his mind too foggy to make anything move quickly. The world was a blur around him but through the room’s only window he could still make out a figure fast approaching. The sky was midnight blue, the moon was unrealistically big, and the figure would not have been noticeable if not for the bright red dome on his head.
The Red Hood.
Jason.
00:10
00:09
00:08
00:07
All sense of calm and peace drained out of Tim’s body, leaving him cold and scared. He wanted to scream. No! Stay away! The timer was ticking, ticking, ticking and Jason was getting closer, closer, and closer. He would get caught in the explosion! He would die, again, an accident this time, and it would be all Tim’s fault! Please! Turn around! Why was he even here? How did he find him? Jason didn’t even like him! What type of sick joke-
“I’m sorry!”
For a second Tim wasn’t sure where the words came from, wondered if another person had joined the “going to die” party. But then he became aware of his throat burning and he knew that he had said it. He wasn’t sure if Jason heard him, knew he probably hadn’t, but Tim still had to say it. Something had occurred to him in the few seconds it took for Tim to think his thoughts, something that made him feel like an awful person for all he had believed about Jason.
Maybe Jason wasn’t as lost as they thought.
It was a strange thought and yet Tim couldn’t help but feel like he should’ve had it sooner. Jason hated him, that he was sure of. Jason hated him and yet here he was, somehow tracking him down and now risking his life to save him. Jason, who had tried to kill him multiple times. Jason. Trying to save him.
The thought warmed him. Maybe, somehow, Jason had healed more than any of them knew. At least enough to not want Tim to suffer the same fate he had. Underneath all the trauma there was still something of the old Robin.
00:03
00:02
00:01
Jason was going to be okay.
Maybe all of them would be.

earth-82: teams, part i
okay, so people seem interested and i’m dying to talk about this universe so here we go! my version of dc canon. i’m splitting this up into multiple posts because otherwise it’ll turn into a monster.
this first post will focus on my versions of the founders of the justice league and my version of the founders of the teen titans. it’s mostly aligned with canon but with (what i think are) some interesting divergencies.
.
.
.
The Justice League of America
the second existing major superhero team within the dc universe and eventually the most expansive.
Bruce Wayne (Batman) - Bruce witnessed his parents’ death when he was seven years old and after that he was put into the custody of Alfred Pennyworth (his family’s butler) and Leslie Thompkins (a doctor friend of Thomas’s). During his college years, Bruce sought out training so that he could eventually return to Gotham and attempt to eradicate crime. During this time, he joins the League of Assassins for awhile and fell into a brief relationship with Talia Al-Ghul. He became Batman at 23 and adopted Dick Grayson a year later.
Clark Kent | Kal-El (Superman) - Kal-El is the only son of Jor-El and Lara-El (nee Lor-Van), who was born during Krypton’s last days. Jor and Lara sent him to Earth, with the hope that he would be taken in by a human family who would raise him well. When Kal landed he was found by Jonathan Kent and Martha Kent (nee Clark), a childless couple. Martha convinced Jonathan that they should adopt Kal and they eventually chose to name him Clark Joseph Kent and raise him as a normal human, despite his strange origins. He became Superman at 22, a few months after being employed at the Daily Planet.
Diana, daughter of Hippolyta (Wonder Woman) - Diana, Princess of Themyscira, was Queen Hippolyta’s only daughter. Made from clay, Diana is the result of multiple goddesses deciding to give Hippolyta her wish to have a child. Diana grew up semi-isolated on Paradise Island, surrounded by the Amazons but lacking company her own age. She was almost three thousand years old when Steve Trevor landed on Themyscira. After a series of challenges that she won, Diana was chosen as Champion of the Gods and left Themyscira with Steve. She helped end WWI but didn’t return to Themyscira at this point, because she had fallen in love with Steve. She stayed with him until he died, before returning to Paradise Island. She left Themyscira several more times and at one point brought a young orphaned baby girl back with her to Themyscira. Hippolyta chose to adopt the girl and raise her as Diana’s sister. Diana chose the name Donna, in honor of a fallen friemd. Diana became known as the Wonder Woman in certain conspiracy and history circles around the time of the Gulf War.
Arthur Curry | Orin (Aquaman) - King of Atlantis, Arthur is the son of Atlanna, the former Queen of Atlantis, and Tom Curry, a human lighthouse keeper. He was raised in the surface world but was informed of his Atlantean heritage at a young age. His father got sick when Arthur was fifteen and afraid, Arthur fled to Atlantis. Once there, he learned his mother was believed to be dead and that her husband (Orvax) had been made king. Arthur was welcomed to the kingdom, as a member of the royal family. Arthur was there for two months before Orvax was killed by a rampaging sea monster and the Council of Atlantis was split about who should inherit the throne, but ends up choosing his younger half-brother Orm, with Nuidis Vulko as his advisor. At first, Arthur seemed welcome at Orm’s side, but he was soon informed by a mute servant that Orm planned to have him killed. The servant, an Atlantean mutant named Dolphin, helped him escape and took him to the stronghold of the rebellion that was is a member of. He, with the help of the growing rebellion led by Mera, overthrew Orm and Arthur - now known as Orin throughout the kingdom - took his place on the throne.
Kendra Muñoz-Saunders (Hawkgirl) - Kendra is the reincarnation of Chay-Ara, an Egyptian priestess of Isis who - alongside her lover, Prince Khufu, and a priest of Hathor, Hath-Set - found Thanagarian nth metal, which turned them into Thanagarian-human hybrids and made it so they would reincarnate each time they died. This lifetime Kendra is an archeologist, along the vein of Lara Croft. On her twenty-first birthday, she received her first memory of her life as Chay-Ara and has since retrieved many more of both Chay-Ara’s and her other past lives.
Barry Allen (The Flash) - Barry Allen was destined to become the Flash, not that he knows this. When he was eleven years old Eobard Thawne travelled back in time from the twenty-fifth century and murdered his mother before disappearing again. Barry’s father was blamed for his wife’s murder and imprisoned for the crime, despite Barry’s protests. Barry was adopted by Jay and Joan Garrick. His best friend (and crush) growing up was Iris West and he ended up spending half his time at her place, making it so he saw the Wests as a second family. Barry is a certifiable genius and managed to graduate high school at sixteen. Barry went through college and got a degree in biochemistry and could have gone farther and become a renowned scientist but instead chose to become a CSI for the CCPD. Barry became the second Flash (though for about six months he was known only as the Scarlet Speedster) when he was twenty-two, due to a lightning strike which hit him and caused him to crash into a bookshelf of chemicals. Unknown to him, the lightning was actually the Speed Force choosing him.
Dinah Lance (Black Canary II) - Dinah is the eldest daughter of Larry and D.D. Lance, born with a dominant metagene. The metagene activated during a traumatic childhood experience when she almost fell from a great height but managed to stop herself from hitting the ground with a powerful scream. Dinah grew up in Gotham City with her Uncle John Zatara and his daughter - her best friend - Zee Zatara and her Uncle Ted Grant. When Dinah turned eighteen years old, she left Gotham and moved to Seattle, where she started college, joined a (pretty good) punk band, and became known as the “Lady in Black” - a vigilante that stopped muggers and rapists with a single scream and a few well-placed kicks. Little did Dinah know that she’s following in the footsteps of her mother, the first Black Canary.
Zatanna Zatara (Zatanna) - Zatanna is the daughter of Giovanni “John” Zatara, a golden-aged superhero called the Magician who had been a member of the JSA and was capable of some magic (a descendant of the Homo Magi), and Sindella, one of the last pure Homo Magi. Zee was born with magical potential the like of which few could compare. Due to John being close friends with D.D. Lance and Thomas Wayne, Zee grew up as a friend of Dinah Lance and Bruce Wayne. John decided to move to Europe when Zee was ten years old and while Zee lost contact with Bruce, she stayed close to Dinah. During her time in Europe, John sought out magicians to help train Zee. When she was eighteen, Zee decided to leave Europe (and her on-again-off-again boyfriend John Constantine) and move to Las Vegas to try and get a start as a stage magician, following in the footsteps of her father.
Original Teen Titans
the beginnings of the first teen superhero team.
Dick Grayson (Robin/Nightwing) - Dick is the son of circus acrobats, John and Mary Grayson, who were killed when he was eight years old. He was taken in by Bruce Wayne and became Robin the next year. Robin is the most experienced sidekick, having already been apart of the vigilante world for four years before the team formed. He became Nightwing when he was seventeen years old and was at that point de facto the leader of the team, alongside Wonder Girl and Starfire.
Donna Troy (Wonder Girl) - Donna is an orphan that Diana rescued from a burning building and took to Themyscira. Donna was adopted by Queen Hippolyta and blessed by the gods to become immortal herself and to gain all the other attributes of the Amazons. When Donna turned twelve, she convinced Diana to take her to Man’s World. She attended a Justice League meeting, which is where she met and became fast friends with Dick Grayson. She and Dick remained friends even as she returned to Themyscira, communicating through letters they exchanged through their mentors. When Donna was fourteen, and Dick thirteen, they convinced Diana and Bruce to let them have a sanctuary of their own, which Bruce produced in New York City and would eventually become Titans Tower. Donna and Dick are the founding and core members of the Teen Titans.
Karyn Zor-El / Karen Starr (Power Girl/Flamebird) - Karyn is the eldest daughter of Zor-El and Alura In-Ze, four years older than her sister Kara. When Krypton was about to be destroyed, Karyn’s parents put her and Kara into a rocket ship where they would be in suspended animation until they arrived on earth; they were supposed to find Kal and seek shelter on Earth as soon as they landed. They were unlucky though and got caught in the Phantom Zone, where they remained for twenty-five years before breaking free and finally landing on Earth, where they woke up to meet Superman for the first time. Karyn was furious to see someone wearing her family’s symbol and attempted to attack Superman, screaming at him in kryptonian. Clark, who knew very little kryptonian, struggled to explain what happened and, once he finally did, Karyn was horrified to learn that Kal had grown up without her and Kara. She refused to fully assimilate to human culture and asked that Kal find her and Kara someone to live with that they would not have to hide their identities from (as Karyn is only thirteen at the time); Clark decided his childhood best friend Lana Lang was the best choice and after she agreed, he approached Bruce for help in establishing fake identities for them as Karen and Kara Starr, Lana’s long lost nieces. Karyn was introduced to Dick Grayson (Robin) and Donna Troy (Wonder Girl) a few months after settling in. She helped form the original Teen Titans.
Wally West (Kid Flash) - Wally is the youngest child of Joe and Frankie West. He considers Barry Allen his older brother, since Barry always spent so much time at the West’s place. He found out Barry was the Flash when he was twelve (about three months after the new Flash first appeared) and demanded that Barry tell him everything! He foolishly decided to try and recreate the accident and was lucky to be chosen by the Speed Force as well. He was allowed to become Kid Flash when he was thirteen, with Joe and Frankie’s permission. He joined the Teen Titans a few weeks after his superhero debut.
Garth of Shayeris (Aqualad) - Garth is the only son of King Thar and Queen Berra of Shayeris and would have been the crown prince had his parents not been overthrown before he was born. His father was killed and his mother banished to Poseidonis, due to the actions of his uncle - a magician with malicious goals. He was born with violet eyes, which marked him with the potential to become a powerful magic-user in his own right. Unfortunately, magic-users had recently been made taboo within Poseidonis and Garth was cast out. He was found by Princess Mera of Xebel, Xebel being an pocket dimension found within the Bermuda Triangle. Mera convinced her parents to take him in. Xebel had no taboo against magic users which allowed Garth to grow up with no bigotry against him for his potential magical abilities, and Mera (a powerful sorceress in her own right) ended up being the own to train him when he expressed interest in the magical arts. Garth met Arthur Curry when he was ten and Arthur twenty, through the rebellion Xebel had joined to bring down King Orvax and later King Orm, and they quickly bonded. When Arthur later became Aquaman, he offered Garth the position of Aqualad. Garth was the second to last of the founders of the Teen Titans to join.
Roy Harper (Speedy/Red Arrow) - Roy Harper Jr never met his father, and his mother, a Navajo woman, died giving birth to him. Roy was raised by his uncle, Broken Bow, until shortly before his uncle’s death when he was twelve. Broken Bow had convinced Oliver Queen, newly recovered billionaire who had been missing for five years, to take Roy in. Because of Oliver’s relationship with Dinah Lance, a personal friend of both Batman and Wonder Woman, Roy was introduced to the other teen heroes when he was fifteen, as Speedy. He ends up becoming fast friends with them and was the last member of the team to join.
.
.
.
okay, guys that’s all for part one! part two will have at least three more teams (the new teen titans, young justice, and the justice league dark).

I was doing some crossover challenges with myself when this idea hit me:
Dick & Danny & Peter are so going to be besties if they meet.
(A mess mix of comics & cartoons & movies, but mostly based on MCU & YJ & my own headcanons)
Teenager superheroes around the age of 14
Have secret identity
Love flying through the sky, either by actual flying or swinging
Like making jokes and jabs when fighting
Know science and techs.
Have a too big heart, shoulder too many responsibilities even if no one asks them to
Can be so smart if they want
Can be so BAMF if they want
Can be so troll if they want
Danny and Dick both have a middle-aged villainous handsome male as off-and-on archenemy who also want them as their apprentice (Deathstroke & Vlad) (Does Norman Osborn count? Then maybe Spidey can join the club too)
Then you realize a big part of their life (especially the superhero part) involves a billionaire senior who acts like a father figure (Tony, Bruce, Vlad). (Vlad at least tried, in his own creepy way)
Sharing similar physical fit, slender build with high flexibility and quick moves instead of brutal strength (spider strength is an extra bonus) Danny and Dick even share blue eyes and black hair (I see a Parent Trap AU coming) I also believe with proper costume & makeup Peter could probably pretend to be Robin/Nightwing (use his inhuman flexibility to imitate Dick's acrobatics) (And Danny can just hack their body)
Then I can't stop making up all kinds of prompts:
Dick and Danny are actually distant relatives. They look almost identical if you do not pay enough attention. So one time somebody actually mistook Danny for Richard Grayson aka Bruce Wayne's ward and kidnapped him. It's the first time Danny got kidnapped as a Fenton so he actually found it exciting and pretended to be Dick just to mess with the kidnappers. (Dick also found it super hilarious when he had to rescue "himself")
And one time when Dash mistook Dick for Danny (during a field trip or something). He tried to put up his bully routine but had no idea who he was dealing with… Dick just faked to be punched and did some of his impressive acrobatic moves and Dash was like HOLY SHIT I BROKE HIS SPINE. I think Dash was traumatized.
Dick taught the other two how to deal with noisy reporters, either as a masked hero or a public figure. The latter is kind of useless for the two. Until someone claimed Peter was Tony Stark's secret son.
Because all of them are multilingual, they sometimes keep switch the language they are using both for fun and for safety. (Peter at least speaks fluent Spanish in MCU, Danny learnt Esperanto in canon, and not to mention our Boy Wonder) (How the hell you guys just pick up a new language so easily?)
One time Dick and Peter made people believe Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke and Wade Wilson aka Deathpool were actual brothers. Slade was not that impressed but Wade thought it was absolutely brilliant. And got himself killed so many times by Slade because he kept showing up in the most annoying way and called Slade "dear brother of mine".
Bruce and Tony do not really see eyes to eyes, constantly jab at each other if they meet at social galas. But if things involve Lex Luther or Norman Osborn, they definitely stand side by side. Vlad is like a frenemy-more-enemy, he is not a big tech head like the others so they don't encounter that much.
I image Dick would seek advice about how to be a solo hero from the other two once he becomes Nightwing.
The three like messing around the labs together. They are kind of banned from the Bat Cave after few times. Stark's lab is their favorite place since Tony mostly just let them play as long as they don't cause big disasters. They don't go around Fenton's that much though because there are too many strange accidents.
They figured out the others' secret during a shared school camping trip in different ways (sounds too lame). Peter: super hearing. Dick: as the ward & partner of the world's greatest detective he just notices things. Danny: as a ghost, he can sense people and a simple mask cannot hide your natural aura. (this one is totally headcanon)
Danny and Peter have so much to talk about how they have to hide their secret identity from people close to them and suffer major angst because of it (while basically all of Dick's family and friends are in the hero community so he can't really fit in their shoes).
Since Dick and Peter both have experienced the death of their loved ones in front of their own eyes, sometimes they seek each other's company and share the feeling when the grief hits them. When Jason died, Peter helped a lot because he knew firsthand how it felt when you blamed yourself for not doing enough to stop the tragedy.
Lazarus Pit is linked to the Ghost Zone.
So much to brainstorm but I really have to my midterm now.

Milton’s Last Rose, Unseen
Dick Grayson and Slade Wilson fan fic. Gen. Approx. 3,700 words
Rating: strong T for canon-typical violence and language. This is a Tumblr-exclusive chapter of my WIP “Interval of Shadow” but can be read as a complete stand-alone. All you need to know is that a few months earlier, Nightwing lost his sight due to a traumatic brain injury that occurred during a fight with Clayface.
This story details a tense encounter between Dick and Slade.
Missions used to consist of things like single-handedly securing a prison, defeating and outsmarting supervillains and metas in the process. Some missions involved interstellar travel. Stakeouts when he had to be effectively still for hours. Leading a newly reassembled JLA against an evil sorceress. Hell, he’d even been Batman.
Today, Dick’s mission was to walk six blocks from the Wayne Foundation Building to a small diner, eat a meal on the premises, then return. Nothing that should be challenging or remarkable in any way, except that it would be his first completely solo outing since the encounter with Clayface a few months ago. His first solo mission since going blind. Dick wasn’t even worried about whether or not he could do it - he knew that he was more than capable of it - but he was concerned about any potential awkwardness.
What if someone assumed he needed help and wouldn’t take no for an answer? What if the server did that weird thing of talking to him really loudly, as if he was deaf instead of blind? He’d encountered that plenty of times already, either being shouted at because the person assumed he couldn’t hear, or having all questions addressed to his companion instead of himself. It was such an odd reaction, Dick mused, since the other common misconception seemed to be that he now had super hearing. Dick wanted to not only accomplish his mission, but complete it with style and assurance.
He knew the route well, both from his previous time living in the penthouse of the building and from studying a tactile map. He had several road crossings to navigate, but only major one intersection of two main roads. Dick had no trouble with any of the crossings, and made it to the diner in good time. The small amount of nerves subsided with every block successfully navigated.
Entering the cafe also proved easy enough, though he’d only been once years ago and didn’t have a clear visual picture of its layout. He heard the change of echoes that indicated a doorway, opened the door and walked through. Finding the cashier’s counter might have been been a small obstacle, but he easily heard someone standing there smacking gum.
He approached, flashed a smile he knew was easygoing yet charming, and said, “Table for one?”
The gum smacked a couple of times. “Just you?” an uninterested but not rude voice asked. Not young, he judged, but not old either. While two words were inconclusive, she sounded like a Gotham native.
“Yes, just me,” he replied smoothly, not letting his smile falter. “Though I’d appreciate a booth in the corner, out of the way, if possible.” He felt most comfortable with his back against a wall or two, especially when alone. Losing his sight had only reinforced that habit, ingrained at an early age. The interesting thing was going out like this with other bats. Bruce picked his seat, and the others arranged themselves as they pleased with subtle negotiations and sometimes outright nonverbal intimidation. Before, if Dick and Tim were to eat together, Dick would have wanted to have his back against the wall. He felt like it was his duty both as the older brother and senior hero to watch out for Tim. Now, though, Tim would take the wall seat if it was just the two of them. Dick used other cues now to monitor his environment.
“Alright, just follow me, please.”
It might have been smoother if she’d offered an arm, but he didn’t need it and wasn’t going to ask. He followed the gum snaps down an aisle, between a row of what he guessed to be booths on one side and tables on the other. The booths had a raised edge which the tip of his cane whacked against with every other step, making keeping straight easy.
“Right here, sir,” the hostess said (or maybe his server - this was the kind of place where they might do both; she hadn’t introduced herself and it annoyed Dick to no end when people did that). Dick touched the table top then the back of the booth to orientate himself, and slid gracefully into his seat. Windows behind him and to his right, judging by the slight brightness he saw. Not that he could see much light on a typically gray Gotham day like today.
A quick, slight puff of air across his face and the sound of laminated card stock - Gum Snapper was trying to hand him the menu. Dick had looked up the menu online before venturing out. “No thanks, I know what I want.”
“You ready to order then?”
Dick turned back to her, making sure to angle his head just right as if he was making eye contact, and gave a small smile. “Yes, I am. Should I order with you or someone else?”
This seemed to jolt her into realizing she’d been making some assumptions. “Um, yeah, sorry hun. My name is Candace and I’ll be your server today. Can I start you off with coffee or soda?”
“Coffee please, and I’ll have the Denver omelette with hashbrowns and bacon, please.”
“Sure thing, sweetie. I’ll be right back with your coffee.”
Dick positioned the cane out of the way on his right side, and amused himself with trying to discern how many other diners and workers were here. He figured that the restaurant was about a third full; not bad for the middle of the morning on a weekday. Hopefully that meant that the food was as tasty now as it had been the one time he’d eaten here before.
He casually eavesdropped on a couple of nearby tables. There was a family with little kids across the aisle and a few tables down, tourists from their chatter. Two retirees sat a bit closer, complaining about how a police roadblock a few days ago had disrupted traffic. Dick grimaced in sympathy. Typical Gotham. Not that he could share the details with the others, but Dick knew that the Riddler had been the cause of that particular situation. He kept listening until his coffee came. After doctoring it up to his satisfaction, Dick had to admit to himself that he was kind of bored. He went back to listening to the people around him, hoping that his food came soon.
Dick heard a slight hesitation in the conversation of the family, as if they had been briefly distracted by something. He listened for footsteps but couldn’t hear anything. Gum Snapper - Candace - was nowhere nearby. Then the retirees paused in their conversation, and one of them set her coffee cup down with a heavy clatter. Her hands were shaking, but they hadn’t been earlier.
Dick focused intensely, and his hand flew up to grab a wrist before someone could touch his shoulder. The very large wrist belonged to a big man, possibly bigger than Bruce. Thick and strong - Dick’s fingers couldn’t wrap all of the way around. Hairy. Slight acrid smell of gunpowder and smoke - mercury and sulphur. The calculations ran through Dick’s head in a split second, and he thought of all the people who could almost sneak up on him, who’d try to grab him without warning, who’d even want to when he was out of costume.
“Slade.” Dick gestured at the seat across from him the booth. “Sit down.” While Dick knew that if Slade’s hand had actually reached his shoulder, Slade would have squeezed painfully, Slade would not outright attack him in public, feet away from a family with young kids, unless Dick attacked first. While Dick might have to take precautions on his way home, for now he was safe.
He heard the slide of fabric across vinyl and felt the subtle flex of the table as the large man sat down.
Slade gave a low rumble, half rueful chuckle and half growl. “So it’s true, then.”
Dick resisted the urge to pinch the bridge of his nose in irritation. Slade finding and confronting him on his very first solo trip out of the house could not be a coincidence. Dick wondered how long Slade had been having him trailed. How had Bruce not noticed? Perhaps he’d just not thought to mention it to Dick? Of course, if Slade had been doing the trailing himself, that might explain why they didn’t know. Slade was good, Dick could acknowledge that.
“You obviously knew that it was true already, Slade.” Dick gestured to his white cane with his chin. “Why are you here?”
“Sometimes seeing is believing.” Dick heard the wry tone in Slade’s voice, and he could picture the sardonic quirk of Slade’s mouth, the gleam of controlled threat in his eye.
“Cute. Really witty there.” Dick took a sip of his coffee in feigned indifference.
“Maybe I just wanted to catch up. I missed your little quips.” Dick heard a rustle of fabric as Slade moved, and Dick imagined him spreading his hands in faux innocence.
“Glad to know that my banter is appreciated by others. It’s always nice to know that my efforts don’t go unnoticed. Now, how long have you been lurking around?”
“I heard that this place makes a mean cup of coffee, so I thought I’d check it out. Imagine my surprise when I saw you here.” Slade’s voice was edged with humor, dangerous and sharp.
“I’m sure you were completely shocked, and that this meeting was entirely random and unplanned,” Dick replied with heavy sarcasm. “So how long have you been in Gotham?”
“Just a couple of days. You might have heard about the incident at Mortimer and 6th Avenue?”
Dick nodded. That was the cause of the police blockade the people at the other table had been complaining about, but no one had told Dick that Deathstroke had been involved. Dick suppressed a flash of irritation. Either Batman and the rest hadn’t known that, or they were trying to ‘protect’ Dick by keeping details from him. While it was plausible that Batman hadn’t realized Deathstroke’s connection, Dick would bet a hundred bucks that Bruce thought he was sparing Dick from worrying about one of Dick’s longest opponents.
“It’s not like you to get involved with the Gotham crowd,” Dick observed mildly, keeping his anger at Bruce concealed.
“True, but out of the lot of them, Nigma isn’t at all bad to work with. To be honest, I’ve been hoping for an excuse to come to this wretched city for a while now, so I took the first reasonable opportunity that I came across.”
“Ah, to check up on little old me? You shouldn’t have. You really shouldn’t have.”
Before Slade could respond, Dick heard Candace approach. Slade exhaled quietly and shifted. Dick knew that he was putting on his friendly civilian face.
“Here’s your omelette, sweetheart,” the waitress said. “Careful, the plate’s hot.”
“Thank you,” Dick murmured.
“Sir, can I get you anything?” Candace asked Slade.
“Just a cup of coffee. Sorry I just sat myself, but I just happened to see my friend here through the window,” Slade said, smooth and almost unctuous.
“Oh, no problem, darling,” Candace simpered, and Dick thought she sounded downright flirtatious. He frowned.
They waited in silence while Dick picked at his food, though he couldn’t really enjoy it. He was too conscious of Slade observing him, noticing any slight hesitation, judging.
After Candace dropped off the coffee for Slade, he remarked, “You realize that I have one more functioning eye than you do now, right?”
“So you’ve just come to gloat, then.” Dick kept both hands on the table, where Slade could see them. He doubted Slade truly saw him as a threat at the moment, but there was no sense in provoking him. It took every ounce of Dick’s self control to keep his hands relaxed and loose.
Slade sighed then, and it sounded almost  … sad. “No, kid, I haven’t. I knew what people were saying, of course I did, but I hoped it was a lie or a cover or … something.”
“Why would I lie about this?” Dick asked in a low voice, fingers twitching towards his knife and then calming them through sheer force of will. It’s not that he wanted to fight Slade, not here, not now, but too many previous conflicts with the man had Dick yearning for a weapon, just to hold.
In an even more quiet voice, Slade replied. “No one believes the horseriding accident bullshit. What really happened?”
“I really did fall off a horse.”
Slade huffed out a small laugh. “Stick to your pathetic cover story if you want to, then, but anybody who really knows you isn’t buying it.” Slade’s meaning was plain - anybody who knew Richard Grayson was Nightwing would never believe the horse story.
Luckily Slade was one of the few villains who knew that Dick was Nightwing, and Slade’s own complicated but strict moral code prevented him from revealing it. Dick shrugged. “Who are you talking about specifically, since the accident and its consequences has been pretty widely reported on?” Might as well push Slade a little.
“The word amongst my … business associates is that Nightwing is AWOL. Rumor is that he’s out of the game, maybe even dead.”
Dick could still do his own version of the Batglare pretty effectively, as confirmed by his siblings. Even Damian had declared it acceptable. He did it now to Slade. “Nightwing was in the news just the other day - big drug trafficking bust. Worked with Red Robin.”
Slade spoke softly enough that no one else could overhear.  “This new Nightwing isn’t an ounce under 220 and hits like a sledgehammer. He’s still pretty acrobatic, but doesn’t move quite the same way.”
“Maybe Nightwing just changed up his workout routine. Maybe he just stopped neglecting leg day,” Dick replied with some irritation. “I’m not sure why you’re interested, anyway.”
“Christ, kid, you’re not making this any easier for me.”
“How exactly have I given you any indication that I care in the slightest about making this easier for you?” Dick hissed. God, Slade was getting on his nerves, and his temper was building. He’d never had perfect control of it even before hitting the wall courtesy of Clayface, and now the control was even more tenuous.
“I came to say I’m sorry. I was sorry to hear the news, and sorry to have it confirmed. You were a respected foe, and not completely without merit. I’ll miss our confrontations.”
“Who said they were over?” Dick snarled and punched him.
Slade clearly hadn’t been expecting anything like that, so Dick’s blow caught him hard in the jaw. Dick had pushed the table away from himself, so Slade was momentarily pinned between the table and the seat. Dick knew that he would have a much harder time with the fight if he lost contact with Slade, so he grabbed Slade’s shirt and pulled.
“Grayson, I didn’t come here for this,” Slade growled. He gripped Dick’s wrists and tried to pry him off as he stood, attempting to move into the aisle. Dick slammed his forehead into Slade’s nose, which made a satisfying crack. With Slade’s healing factor, it wouldn’t slow Slade down much, but Dick felt him stagger.
Slade used his greater size and strength to bear Dick down to the floor, but Dick twisted desperately. Whatever happened, he couldn’t risk a blow to the back of his skull. He landed on his left side and shoulder, hissing, with Slade on top. Slade forced Dick the rest of the way down, so he was flat on his back, but at least Dick hadn’t hit his head.
Dick grabbed Slade’s ear and yanked hard, a dirty technique but Dick didn’t care. His heart thumped in his chest and everything slowed, possibilities palpable, each move and countermove perspicuous. Dick felt more lucid than he had in months, as the adrenaline sang through his body and mind.
Dick heard shouts, cries of alarm, but he ignored them. Slade cursed and Dick grinned like a wolf, bending his knees and getting his feet under his legs. He was still on the ground but he had a bit more power now, despite Slade’s heavy weight pressing him down.
Dick used his leverage on Slade’s ear to tug the other man away enough for Dick to crack his elbow up and across Slade’s face. This shouldn’t be so easy. Slade was holding back. With that realization, Dick’s adrenaline turned to thermogenic rage. Transformative.
Dick had to get off of his back. He bridged up with his torso, pushing from his shoulders and legs. creating space under his back and forcing Slade up. Without warning, he dropped back down, using that instant to snake his right arm between his chest and Slade’s chest. He continued the move, punching his arm through and following with the rest of his body, throwing his hips to create enough leverage to roll onto his front. He felt his legs bump against something, the clatter of dishes falling.
Someone - Candace, maybe - shouted, “Stop! Stop it, now!”
Dick didn’t stop. Slade was still on him, trying to squish him into the floor, grappling hard. Slade’s body was perpendicular to his, but probably scrunched up between the tables, given that Dick had enough room to be flat. Not flat for long. Dick got one leg out to the side, pushed down on floor with that knee, getting more of his body out from underneath Slade’s mass. He levered himself up on his knees and forearms, forcing his butt up, until he was on all fours. He had room to move now.
The fact that he couldn’t see didn’t matter, not with the close contact. He knew exactly where Slade was, the position of every limb. Slade was resisting, trying to control Dick’s movements. Slade was definitely fighting back, but he wasn’t going all out. Dick’s anger roared like a dragon in his ears.
He grabbed Slade’s wrist, digging into a pressure point hard enough that Slade flinched. A tiny flinch, probably not visible to even an attentive bystander, but Dick felt it under his hands. Dick was about to make his move to attempt to flip Slade, when all of the resistance slid out of Slade.
“Kid, hey kid,” Slade’s bass voice slowly cut through Dick’s haze. “Grayson.”
Dick tried to gather his control back like a dog walker gathering the leashes of a dozen angry Great Danes.
“It’s over. They’ve called the cops,” Slade said.
And that is how Dick’s first solo mission ended - with a free ride in a cop car to the police station.
*************
Bruce’s cellphone vibrated in his pocket, but he ignored it. This pet R&D project of Tim’s was going to send Bruce to an early grave. Or send me back to college, Bruce thought to himself, as he opened up a research article that he needed to read before making sense of aspects of Tim’s proposal. Well, not exactly, Bruce had a good basic grasp already, but he needed more information.
Halfway through the article, Bruce’s desk phone rang. He sighed, glanced at the number - Gotham, but not one he recognized - and hit the button to send it to voicemail. Not many people knew his direct line number, but Bruce felt pretty confident that he knew all of the phone numbers of the people who did. Probably a misdial. Bruce returned his attention to his article, locating the paragraph he’d been interrupted on and re-reading it.
He registered the familiar sound of Cynthia, his long-time and fairly trusted assistant, knocking on the door. He trusted her 100% in anything to do with Wayne Enterprises, but she didn’t know about Batman. “Enter,” he called.
“Sorry to disturb you, Bruce, but Commissioner Gordon is on the phone for you. Line two.”
“Thanks, Cynthia,” he said and picked up the phone. “Gordon, what can I do for you?”
“Bruce, sorry to have to get you through your secretary, but I couldn’t reach you on your direct line.”
“That was you, just a minute ago. I didn’t recognise the number - you’re not calling from the precinct.” It wasn’t a question.
“New cell, and it’s not exactly police business,” Gordon said. He sounded awkward, hesitant, though only someone who had known him as long as Bruce had would pick it up. Gordon sighed, and continued, “It’s not exactly not police business either, though. I thought I would give you a personal heads up.”
Bruce’s Bat-communicator buzzed in the short-short-long-short rhythm that meant Oracle was trying to contact him. Urgent but not emergency. He remembered the call on his personal cell, that he hadn’t even looked at to see who had been calling. A lesser man would have groaned and poured himself a Scotch.
“Explain,” Bruce said to Gordon.
“We have one of your boys here. Got himself arrested for fighting.”
“Which one?”
The first thought Bruce had was Jason, which wasn’t fair at all. Jason had actually fought less than Dick had when he lived with Bruce, and rarely got in trouble at school. Not to mention the fact that Jason Todd was still legally dead. Gordon wouldn’t be calling Bruce about the Red Hood. Damian was Bruce’s next suspect. Even Tim. The last name Bruce expected to hear was “Dick.”
“Dick?” Bruce couldn’t quite keep the incredulity out of his voice.
“Yes, I know it’s hard to believe, given his - current condition, but my officers responded to an altercation at a diner.”
“Is he hurt?” Bruce asked, and he hated the urgency in his voice, something uncomfortable pricking up his spine.
“No, not really, which is impressive, considering the other guy. Older, but huge. Ex-military, maybe.”
“What is his name?” Bruce demanded.
“No one I know. Said his name was Stephen Green.”
Bruce knew. Wilson. Deathstroke.
Bruce must have made some kind of noise, because Gordon was apologizing. “Sorry you had to hear it like this, Bruce, but Dick said he tried to call you and you didn’t answer. He called Alfred instead, so I thought I’d give you a call before your butler does.”
“A much appreciated heads-up.” Bruce remembered to layer back on his social niceties. “I’ll be right there. Thank you for calling, Gordon.”
Bruce carefully put the phone down, but then squeezed it so hard that the plastic cracked. Deathstroke was going to pay for harassing his son.
I hope you enjoyed! I plan to publish this with the rest of “Interval of Shadow” on AO3 but it might not fit with the main continuity. I may end up making changes. I’m eager for feedback.
If Dick seems a bit volatile, he is recovering from a traumatic brain injury, and behavioural or personality changes are common side-effects. Dick is doing extremely well, but he’s quicker to anger and can’t quite control his emotions the way he did before.
You can read the earlier parts of “Interval of Shadow” here.

Easter Bunny [Jason Todd x Reader]
A/N: Happy Easter everyone!!! Hope you all enjoy the holiday to it’s fullest and find plenty of easter eggs! I made this fic especially for easter and I hope you guys love it. This is kind of a sequel to Now and Always because I’m using the same child character I made. There’s a pretty large age jump, and I know the speech is advanced for a toddler but I have a nephew who actually just turned three and is able to speak like this so I’m basing Addilyn’s speech like that. I hope you all love it!
Thank you @memento-scribet for helping me with the end! You’re the bomb!
Next Part: Baby’s First Father’s Day - Between A Rock and A Donkey Suit
_____
Easter; a bright, warm time of year. A time little Addilyn loves, now that she’s big enough to run, she loves to go outside and play all of the time. You and Jason take her to the park almost everyday so she will let out some of that energy.
However, she isn’t fond of the mascot of this holiday. When you both took her to the mall to see the Easter Bunny, she wasn’t having it. She was absolutely terrified before you even got to the front of the line. Deciding not to traumatize the poor girl, Jason scooped her up and you both took her for ice cream instead.
This was a few days before Easter. Now it’s the day of, and Jason was getting ready to load her into the car as you grabbed some things to take to the manor. “Mommy! Zeebee?!” you heard her yell as Jason was carrying her out the apartment door. Smiling you came up behind them, the stuffed zebra in your hand. “Do you mean this little fella?” Her smile widened as she stuck her hands out for it, handing it over she hugged it tight before snuggling into Jason’s shoulder. “Mom to the rescue as always.” Jason said amused as the little girl nodded.
Following them out to the car, watching as Jason buckled her into her car seat. He’s really become quite the father, not that you had any doubts. When he pulled away from the car and closed the door he turned to see you watching him. “Take a picture it will last longer” he teased walking up to you. “What can I say, you’re a hot dad.” He laughed before pecking your lips.
After hearing a loud “ewwy” from the car you both laughed before getting in.
The drive to the manor was all around uneventful, Addilyn ended up falling asleep the moment you pulled out. Both chuckling when you peered back there and saw her fast asleep. But like magic, she was up when you pulled into the manor driveway. Bouncing in her seat, ready to see the family.
Jason grabbed the stuff you brought out of the trunk as you got Addie out of her seat. The minute her feet hit the ground she was running up to the door, Alfred opened the door before you even had to knock. “Alfred!” She cheered, running right into his arms. “Hello Miss Addilyn, how is your Easter?” he asked kneeling in front of her. “Good!” she grinned, looking past Alfred she saw Bruce. “Papa Bruce!” she cheered again before running into his arms as he scooped her up “Hey sweetheart!” he greeted her.
You and Jason greeted Alfred, you giving him a hug, before making your way farther into the manor. You hugged Bruce as Jason shook his hand. He carried Addilyn into the living room where everyone was. She jumped out of Bruce’s arms and ran to see her aunts and uncles.
“Whoa!” Steph yelled when she ran in, “Look at you, your dress is so pretty!” Addie grinned and hugged her. You and Jason came in next, seeing nearly all of Jason’s family. Tim, Damian, Steph, Cass, Barbara, but no Dick. “Where’s Dick?” you asked, brows furrowed in confusion.
“He said he has a surprise or something. He’s going to be late.” Tim answered as he was watching Steph play with Addie.
“Why do I have a bad feeling about this?” Jason whispered to you, making you laugh and shake your head. You ended up going with him into the kitchen, watching as he helped Alfred with some cooking. Alfred asked you guys about Addie and how things were. He knew you both were talking about having another child, so he questioned if you had decided too or not. All the while unbeknownst to Dick coming into the manor.
Addilyn was still in the living room playing with the others, right now Damain was showing her a new trick he had taught Titus. “Uncle Dami, how do you do dat?” her voice small. “Firmness and superiority” he answered as Addilyn just looked at him confused. “Damian she’s still little, she doesn’t know what that means.” Tim stated as Damian’s expression fell a bit. The others in the room laughed.
“Whas funny?” Addilyn looked around at the family, the ‘t’ not making it into ‘what.’ Though they paused when they heard Dick come in the door. “Hellooo?!” he called. Barbara yelled that they were in the living room. Though they all burst out laughing when they saw him in a giant Easter Bunny costume.
“Hi! Everyone I’m the Easter Bunny! And I’m here to see Addilyn!” He called cheerily, and looked down at the toddler. Her eyes widened in horror before she ran out of the room screaming. “Mommy! Daddy! Monster!” tears running down her face.
You and Jason immediately ran from the kitchen, her going straight into Jason’s arms. “Hey peanut what’s wrong?” he asked her softly as you ran a hand up and down her back. “M-monster! B-big bunny m-monster!” she sobbed into Jason’s shoulder. Exchanging a look you both went into the living room.
Coming upon the scene of Dick in an Easter Bunny costume and the family confused at what was happening. “Smooth Grayson, she’s terrified of the Easter Bunny” Jason glared at his brother. “She is?” they were all shocked.
You nodded, “Why do you think nobody got a mall picture, she didn’t even make it through the line.” continuing to rub her back, as she was beginning to calm down. Dick took off the costume head and walked behind Jason to where Addie could see him. “I’m sorry Addie, it’s just me. I didn’t mean to scare you.” he apologized as she peeked up at him.
“Uncle Dick?” she asked shyly. He nodded smiling at her. “Don’t do that again!” she yelled at him, surprising everyone. He chuckled “I won’t I promise” nodding. “Pinky promise?” she held out her hand. He wrapped his pinky around her tiny one, “Pinky promise.”
She nodded before turning to Jason, “I’m okay daddy.” Jason smiled before saying, “Okay, but can I have a kiss first?” She giggled before kissing his cheek. “And your mommy” he angled for her to peck your lips, which she did. Setting her down she returned to playing, avoiding the bunny head at all costs.
Jason wrapped an arm around your waist, “Can I have a kiss too?” he smirked at you. Rolling your eyes you connected your lips to his, getting a collective ‘ew’ from the family, minus Bruce. Addie giggled at the family’s reaction to her parents. “Mommy and daddy are yucky” she commented smiling. “Oh we’re ‘yucky’ huh?” Jason asked before running over and scooping her up as she laughed. You were right behind him as you both began to tickle her relentlessly. “No! Mommy, Daddy stop!” she squealed.
The family laughed at her giggles before Barbara broke in, “How about we go look for easter eggs? You know Addie, Uncle Dick is the best at finding them and he owes you for scaring you.” She smiled as both you and Jason let the little girl breath. “Tt. I could find more than Grayson” Damian crossed his arms.
“Is that a challenge?” Dick cocked an eyebrow at the younger male. “Perhaps” Damian shrugged.
Addie laughed before latching onto Dick’s leg, “Addie’s on my team!” Dick cheered before picking the girl up and running to the backyard. Damian hot on his heels.
“Wait I want in!” Steph stood from her spot, grabbing Tim’s hand and pulling him with her. “Wait Steph!” Tim yelled but it didn’t stop her. Cass, Barbara, and Bruce were the next ones out. Most likely to keep from any injuries happening.
You and Jason were still sitting on the floor watching as the family excitedly exited. Both laughing at the sight before looking at each other. “Hey [F/n]” moving so he was right next to you. “Hmm?” humming in acknowledgment.
He hesitated before asking,“Are you ready to have another baby?” uncertainty in his tone, keeping his blue eyes locked with yours. Letting out a sigh, you slowly connected your lips to his in a chaste kiss, which he reciprocated. Pulling away you met his eyes again and nodded, “I am.”
His face broke out in a beaming grin before he kissed you again in the most loving way. After breaking away he took your hand, pulling you up to your feet. After wrapping an arm around your waist he led you out to the patio, not before mumbling how much he loves you in your ear and you happily returning it.

[Bruce, Jason, & Damian Panels] The New 52′s “Convergence: Batman and Robin” (2015)
Tumblr media
Writers have shown us time and time again that fatherhood does not come easy to one Bruce Wayne. It definitely wasn’t easy raising a Dick Grayson or a Tim Drake, let alone a Jason Todd or a Damian Wayne, even with Alfred Pennyworth around. (Not to mention his “daughters” and other less-troublesome “sons”). But we’ve gotta hand it to the ol’ Bat - he never stops trying.
This miniseries is aptly entitlted “Fathers & Sons”, and it’s easily becoming one of my favorites.
We’ve seen the pattern of resentment among the Robins that comes with feeling replaced. All the four (main) Batboys have gone through it at one point in their vigilante careers: Dick with Jason; Jason with Tim; Tim with Damian. And now, interestingly, Damian with Jason?
You’d think that the li’l former assassin would have gotten over his insecurities after having proven himself a more-than-capable Robin to both Bruce and Dick... Perhaps, it’s a testosterone thing? Or possessiveness over their father?
Whatever the reason, it paves the way for combination angst-and-fluff interactions that I absolutely adore!
A little backstory (and some spoilers):
"Convergence" was a company-wide DC Universe crossover event during the New 52 run focused on Braniac's obsession with collecting cities from ended timelines and trapping them in domes on a planet outside of space and time. It has several spin-offs, including this two-issue one.
In a domed Gotham City, Batman and Robin rescue Poison Ivy from some rogues. She had been cultivating Robinson park in order to feed the citizens for free, and her colleagues basically saw it as bad for criminal business. When Killer Croc attacks Batman, Red Hood (with his assistant Duela Dent, a.k.a. Scarlet) shows up unexpectedly and saves him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Jason... Todd? Why’s he here?”
In the next set of panels, both Bruce and Damian question Jason’s sudden appearance - but probably for different reasons. Bruce seems genuinely curious but welcoming, while Damian’s more he’s-not-supposed-to-be-here.
Tumblr media
More under the cut:
“Where have you been?”
Not “Get lost, you’ve done enough”, not “I’m calling the cops on you”.
Awww, Bruce, your “daddy” is showing!
Tumblr media
“... Because I have help.”
Fandom tends to portray Batman as a lone wolf who hates working with others, when that’s only partly true. He rarely (openly) asks for help (for efficiency and martyr-ish reasons), but he also rarely has to. The Batfamily has his back whether he prefers it or not (which, I’m pretty sure, he does). And, once in a while, he’ll acknowledge it and have symptoms of gratefulness.
In the last panel, I like how the artist puts the quote beside Damian’s face. I’d like to think that Bruce is either acknowledging the importance of having his Robins, or hinting to Damian that Jason’s contribution to the fight was valuable.
Tumblr media
“Maybe it’s time you got yourself a new partner. Or an old one.”
Now, the following scene is very reminiscent of an exchange between Bruce and Tim regarding Damian (which I previously posted about here.) The irony being that Damian’s in Tim’s shoes this time, insecure about where he stands with Bruce now that the long-lost black sheep of the family has returned. Like Tim, he feels that said sheep should earn his place in the family and resents that Bruce seems to be forgetting years of ugly life-threatening disputes with Jason.
But, as far as parents go, Bruce is fair, to say the least. In moments like these, he tries to reassure the concerned child of his love and lets him/her see where the other is coming from.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Of all the things I learned from you... how to be a father was not one of them.”
If you’ve read the “Batman and Robin” series (the second volume, where Bruce reclaims the cowl from Dick, and Damian stays as his Robin), then you’ve seen the frustrating tug-of-war between Bruce and Damian. Bruce was learning how to be father; Damian, a son. There were so many lovely moments between them that actually made me tear up!
In this heartfelt scene, Bruce is seeking comfort from (the ghost of) his father. Clearly, Batman and son still have a ways to go. If there’s something that can get under Bruce’s skin - apart from his parents’ death, of course - it’s family tension.
(In spite of their argument, Bruce considers taking Damian on patrol, knowing how much his son loves it.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I don’t want to fight you.”
I suppose being a fictional vigilante family affords them the right to be this ExtraTM  (on a rooftop, a helicopter on standby),  but really this is just your typical brotherly brawl at home.
Throughout the issue, we get a glimpse of a now-“reforming” Jason. He shows up out of nowhere, with no other agenda than to fight side-by-side with his family. He holds back his punches against Damian even when he could use “self defense” as an excuse to Bruce. (Maybe he can relate to Damian? After all, they’ve both tried to kill Tim out of Robin-fueled resentment.) His defenses are down when Bruce calls him out for his “unacceptable” behavior”. Here’s a Jason who wants a truce, however uneasy.
Damian’s disdain for Jason isn’t unfounded, though. Jason’s track record... Well. Come on. Plus, remember the time when he humiliated Batman and Robin, almost exposing Dick and Damian’s secret identities to the whole world via the internet?
Tumblr media
“Both of you... STOP IT.”
And the “daddy” just keeps falling from his cape.
Tumblr media
Before Bruce gets to answer such a loaded question, a disembodied voice interrupts their moment (whew!) and tells them that the cities will have to fight one another to survive.
... Which, of course, is unacceptable to Bruce, whose mantra is that there is always another way. A group called The Extremists arrive in Gotham City and the Batboys are forced to push aside their differences to deal with the threat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Both of you... concentrate on your jobs.”
Damian’s snarky by nature, and Jason’s not one to just let a li’l brat get away with insulting him, so...
Tumblr media
Annnnnnd Batman breaks his no-civilian-names-in-the-field rule like a mother hen panicking for her two chicks.
Tumblr media
Now, this next set of panels just... *sigh*.
In a clever (or desperate?) attempt to get his sons to work together, Bruce actually uses his opponent to reenact a traumatic Batfamily moment. (I mean, how may Bane-like villains are there? And, how many parents do you know use life-and-death situations as teaching moments?)
Tumblr media
“We’ll get your father.”
And, just like that, a mutual protectiveness over their father (come on, Jason, just say it already) actually gets them to cooperate!
Tumblr media
“We still have a job to do. Together.”
Tumblr media
You know who you wouldn’t want as your enemy? Crime-fighting brothers who have just recently made ammends (and have Batman as their dad!).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Got you.”
Tumblr media
“I’m here...”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"This is what we do. This is what we’ve always done. We protect the things that are precious to us.”
Tumblr media
“The universe made us orphans, but we don’t have to stay that way. Go be with your family, Bruce.”
And the cherry on top? Our favorite Batfamily “uncle”/co-parent droping by from the sky to share in the feels... (He clearly watched the whole thing unfold.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In spite of how much his children push him (or each other) away, Bruce doesn’t give up on them (and, well, vice versa). He’ll let them run away, but not without stuffing a care package in their knapsacks first (figuratively speaking).
World’s Greatest Detective, in peak physical condition, revered by superheroes and villains in the Multiverse... and “dad” is still his greatest challenge.
