Pride Month is almost upon us once again folks, and I’ve been reflecting on that. I have some thoughts.

We’re not safe in the USA anymore

Not a huge revelation I know, most of us have been paying attention because we don’t have the choice to opt out.

If you didn’t know though, The ACLU just released a travel advisory for Florida. If you are a POC, a woman, or LGBTQ+ (especially Trans/Non-binary) it is not safe or advisable for you to travel to Florida.

Florida has already made it clear that they will kidnap Trans Children from their supportive parents and place them into abusive foster situations.

Apparently a trans person has already died from DeSatans newest law which allows doctors to discriminate and deny care to people based on “ethical or moral” grounds.

Florida has fully embraced the genocide of Trans and Non-Binary people. Full Stop. They have started eradication efforts through denial of medical care.

Pride can’t be about celebration this year. Not with this going on. We don’t have equality or equity, we shouldn’t be celebrating a “win” that doesn’t exist.

Pride needs to go back to its roots, it’s gotta go back to being a protest for our right to live life as we see fit, without fear of dying. Not some corporate block party tying to appeal to the cishets fragile heteronormative sensibilities.

If it causes “ally’s” to leave, fine, that means they were performative and were most likely causing division within the community anyway.

Pride should be a protest.

Im also suggesting we start boycotting products from Florida.

In the 1970’s when Anita Bryant started her “think of the children” shtick, the LGBTQ+ community boycotted Florida Orange. Gay Bars started serving “Anita Bryant’s” instead of screwdrivers, which used apple juice in place of orange juice.

Guess who inevitably lost her contract?

We need to bring the boycotts back, not because of a bigoted spokesperson, but because of where the tax dollars from purchasing these things goes.

Boycott Florida Orange, do not buy anything that contains orange juice, do not buy oranges.

Boycott Airlines that use parts in their planes from Florida, better yet don’t fly at all if you can avoid it

Same thing with smartphones, do not upgrade your smartphone “just because”, most smartphone parts manufactured in the USA are made in Florida.

Do not buy anything that is made in and/or shipped from Florida.

Do not go to Florida for Disney World, Sea World, or Universal Studios, in fact don’t vacation in Florida at all, do not let your money fund their tourist industry, which is (obviously) paying taxes to the state.

Protest This Pride and Hit Florida Where it Hurts for however long this takes.

Nationwide there are emergency protests to decry the slaughter of innocent civilians in Rafah last night.

In NYC protesters are marching in the streets against police orders. The crowds are so big the cops are making arrests but it has done little to slow tonights demo.

"In recent years, several laws targeting transgender adults have been proposed or enacted. These laws eliminate Medicaid coverage for transgender healthcare, permit pharmacists and hospital systems to discriminate against transgender patients, and impose restrictions on providers in various ways. Until recently, little information was available on how these new statutes affect transgender adults. While their care is often not explicitly prohibited, they may still experience disruptions due to anti-transgender laws. Now, a just released Data for Progress poll reveals that 24% of transgender adults have had their healthcare disrupted or discontinued as a result of anti-transgender legislation."

Start LOUDLY supporting your trans friends!!! Post pride flags! Remind everyone you're an ally! Make support for trans people so incredibly mainstream again that it's impossible to ignore!

It's not enough to support us silently while we're facing record amounts of legislation trying to make us illegal. You have to make sure they stop trying to hurt us.

You know what makes me sad?

It makes me sad, and not a little bit mad, that there are disabled people -- even those who are Disability Advocates -- who hate Disability Pride Month because they're convinced it was invented by normate people to make themselves feel better. I suspect that's because it follows directly after June's Queer Pride Month, and, if you are young enough to not remember the history for yourself ('cause we all know it's not being taught n schools), it can feel like a leftover crumb. But it is so, so, not.

If I were Queen of Calendars, I might move Disability Pride Month to April, to commemorate the 504 Sit-in of 1977, especially the occupation of the regional offices of Health, Education, and Welfare in San Fransisco, by over 500 people, mostly disabled (with their personal care assistants). The Occupation lasted 28 Days -- the longest protest occupation of a federal building in U.S. History. Since Queer Pride Month commemorates a protest, maybe Disability Pride Month should, too. The biggest knock against April is the weather is still iffy in much of the country for pride parades and outdoor gatherings.

(Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 was the legal predecessor of the ADA. And no, that's not a typo. Most of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 was passed in 1973, but the one section that outlined rights for the disabled was put to the side, and ignored for four whole years, because it was deemed to be too expensive and confusing to extend civil rights to disabled people. It was the Sit-In in 1977 that finally pushed President Carter to sign it, and make it law).

To any transgender person that is worried for their life, there is hope!

These are pictures from a Trans Rights rally at Purdue University at Lafayette today. HUNDREDS of students showed up and people not even going to Purdue showed up.

Citizens from Lafayette and beyond, students from all parts of the world, and even PASTORS from local churches came out to show their support for trans people and the LGBT+ community as a whole

If people are willing to come out and support trans people they don’t even know, image what they would do for people they DO know. You matter, you specifically, you are loved, and don’t you dare forget it, because you are worth it, these people all care about you enough to fight for you.

Like and reblog and do whatever else the algorithm needs you to do because we need to give as many trans teens hope as possible. the current wave of legislation is so depressing, I can only hope that I reach at least one person. If you want to message me, I am open talk at any time. I already know I would love to meet you! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

It's time to fight back!

LGBTQ+ folks and allies, our rights are under attack. The ACLU, which tracks anti-LGBTQ+ legislation across the nation, has identified over 400 bills currently making their way through state Congresses and Senates. We must stand together against these horrific policies for the good of all queer people.

On March 31st, 2023, Queer Youth Assemble is planning protests across the nation to center youth voices and allow all queer people and allies to make their displeasure known.

Join us at marches in over 30 states (with more joining up every day!) as well as Washington DC. Turn up in large enough numbers so that legislators know that we will not stand for this.
