you hated lee heeseung.
throughout the three years you've known him, he's been always the bane of your existence. the boy was constantly bugging you and pulling a new stunt to show off and get your attention. all of this just to ask you out on a date - something he's been doing practically every week since the age of fourteen.
seriously, after a hundred 'no's you'd think he'd learn to back off. and yet, he was still persistent in pursuing you.
at least, until your final year began.
see, you two had been competing against each other for the position of student council president at the end of last year. unfortunately for you, he was immensely popular; an actual threat. on top of being the captain for boys' volleyball team, he was class rep. and actively helped out teachers after school. students and teachers alike were drawn in by his hardworking yet casual nature and how easily he talked to others. despite the busy campaigns and rivalry, he still managed to somehow find time to ask you out, ending his final speech with, "and aren't all these qualities worthy of at least one date?"
of course he'd still find a way to make such an important event about asking you out. whoops and cheers echoed the hall, with almost everyone looking at you. everyone knew your history, with half the school on his side, cheering him on and urging you to say yes.
thankfully, the other half of the student body understood that no means no, and were more sympathetic towards you. after all, it's not like you were disliked or anything - you were as well known as h*es*ung.
you yourself had led the school to win several math competitions over the years, and tutored over ten students in your highschool career (get that money girl!). in addition, you were already on the council as the treasurer.
yet, it was his last sentence that one the people over and he'd been chosen as the president, with you as vice.
"just say yes. one date won't hurt," ningning had chuckled when you complained again, once she'd come back from her summer camp.
"my pride and reputation of always saying no will be."
"maybe he'll back off if you do?"
"no number of rejections has stopped him, how would a 'yes' do that?"
"maybe he'll realise you're absolutely undateable," she laughed at you, which had you throwing a pillow at her in retaliation.
you scowled at her before pulling out your phone and finding heeseung's instagram.
"thanks for meeting with us today, i'm sure you guys are excited to go home. first days are always tough." and with that, heeseung closed up the first meeting of the year.
conversation and the screeching of chairs filled the room as everyone began to pack up and leave, bidding goodbye to each other. as president and vice president, you and heeseung were left behind to clean up after the others and sort out other documents and such.
you half-heartedly expected another question of a date from him as you threw away the paper cups and teabags, but it never came.
instead, all he said was, "good job today."
you turned to look at him, with his bag slung over one shoulder and a hand stuffed into his pocket. he gave you a tight smile and left the room after that, reminding you to lock up before you left.
a little disconcerted, you continued the last few tasks while mumbling to yourself, "that ass, making me clean up and not..." you didn't finish that thought. it almost sounded like you wanted him to ask you out on another date. you thought he would though - he always did, but the first day of school passed without incident.
well, it's only the first day. he'll definitely ask you out tomorrow, or later this week. he's never missed a chance to do so during first week of school.
he hasn't asked you out at all. not in the first week, nor the second, or the third.
a whole month had gone by, and all you'd heard from heeseung was student council-related stuff. he hadn't even talked to you outside of meetings.
"did you two fight, or something?" ningning asked you curiously.
"i dunno?" you reply truthfully. you really weren't sure if what was going on between you was a fight or just a change in dynamics. it was confusing.
the rest of the school noticed too; the halls whispered when you passed by, wary and concerned looks thrown your way. someone even asked off handedly in conversation: 'are you two secretly dating, then?' everyone was walking on eggshells around you two.
"well, i guess you can rest now."
"huh?"
"you said you wanted him to stop, didn't you?" ningning raised an eyebrow at you. "who knows how many times you've complained about it to me in the past. it's made up like, half of our conversations in all our years of friendship."
"oh, right."
ningning tilted her head curiously at you. "what's with the disappointed tone?"
"what tone?" you rolled your eyes. "this is perfect! i can finally concentrate on my work without having to be afraid that i'll be distracted by heeseung trying to get me to date him again." after a moment, ningning hummed in agreement.
"and! those girls can stop giving me death glares. i mean - i've already seen so many triumphant looks from them, as if they've already got him in the bag."
"uh-huh," she said sceptically.
"they'd definitely say yes if he asked them out. unlike me. he can actually go and date for once, instead of embarrassing himself with me."
"riiiight."
"good. that's good! maybe he'll have a girlfriend by next week. and-"
"okay! i get it, i get it," ningning burst out laughing. "i've never seen you overthink about heeseung this much."
"i can't help it! what would you think if some guy who's been obnoxiously pining over you for years consistently suddenly stopped out of nowhere?"
"hmm... i'd hang out with him, break my leg, therefore obliging him to bring me to the hospital, manipulate him to visit me every day as i recover, be overbearing as hell so that he'd realise he doesn't want me anymore, and poof! he's gone."
you stared at your (possibly insane) best friend (how is she your best friend?!) in alarm.
"...i think it's time for another visit to the psych ward."
"hey!"
you two laughed yourself to stitches. she might be crazy, but she definitely got your mind off heeseung, if only for a little bit.
"you guys don't like sports, do you?"
everyone in the council shook their head.
"well, luckily for you, the student council members aren't be required to participate in sports day. we're only expected to volunteer and help the teachers."
you and the others cheered, relieved you wouldn't have to run yourself to death in the cold wind like last year. you might have been gifted in almost any skill and hobby you picked up, but sports was an exception.
"make sure you do help out, as i'll be taking note of who does what." then, heeseung said in a whisper, as if sharing a secret (who in this room he's hiding it from, you don't know), "and we'll hold a little party here. just us members." that definitely got everyone murmuring excitedly.
in the two previous years you've been in the student council, you've never seen one so lively and reactive to their president. you hate to admit it, but you too could feel your mood lighten up with them whenever heeseung was leading another meeting.
not to mention, he listened intently to the others' concerns, always suggested good solutions, and greeted everyone who entered with a cup of tea. he was a lot more considerate than you'd expected.
see, you hadn't really shared that many classes before. and the one or two you ever did, you avoided him at all costs so you never actually noticed him properly until it was forced right in front of your face.
"on another note, we'd like to take in suggestions for places to visit for an upcoming school trip," you started, garnering their attention.
as you began your part of the meeting, you could feel heeseung's intense stare, but every time you looked at him, he'd turn away.
it was a little frustrating, and you didn't know why. you couldn't figure out why you felt a little more upset every time he'd look somewhere else. was he ignoring you? but, this was a totally normal thing to do, right? so it's not like you could just ask him 'hey, why do you always ignore me when i look at you?', you'd look stupid.
when the meeting ended and everyone else had left, the awkward tension between you two was so thick you could cut it with a knife.
"make sure to lock up before you go-"
"did i do something wrong?"
heeseung stared at you, mouth frozen from being cut off mid-sentence.
"what? no. why?"
"i just- well, you-" you stuttered, unsure how to answer. "i guess, i'm not used to you not..."
"to me not asking you to be my girlfriend?" he laughed, but there was an odd lack of humour.
you shrunk into yourself. you should have just kept your mouth shut, now you sounded self-centered.
"nevermind," you huffed.
"i'm just doing what you asked. after the date, remember?" he left before you could say anything else.
after he'd gone, you couldn't even hear the silence he left behind - not when your thoughts rang in your ears. shame, embarrassment, rage. you hated him, heeseung.
but most of all, you hated yourself.
you avoided heeseung at all costs after that incident, at least, whenever you could.
previously, with the lack of interactions you two had, you felt like you barely ever saw him. but now that there was this weird air of tension between you, seeing him at three times a week after school for student council activities suddenly felt too often. every time you were alone with him, you were sure you were as red as a tomato; you developed a habit of letting your hair hide your red ears and hide your face.
when sports day inevitably came, you took over his responsibilities, seeing as he was still a part of the volleyball team. that made him the only one in the student council to join any sports activity, whereas the rest of you relaxed. (the privilege was all thanks to heeseung, who advocated for your guys' exemption from activities after everyone had complained, in return for volunteer work.)
"you haven't gone to the volleyball games yet?" soobin, the treasurer, asked.
"no. i planned out a route to visit all the activities, and the courts happened to be last."
he raised a sceptical eyebrow at you.
"really. it's not because you're trying to steer clear of our dear president or something?"
you cringed. "keep your nose out of our business."
"well, if it's affecting student council activities, isn't it our business too?"
"maybe, but i think your priority should be helping out mrs. shin over there," you pointed to the teacher walking across the field, carrying a bunch of equipment by herself. "'looks pretty heavy, it would look bad if our volunteer wasn't doing his work, now would it?"
soobin gave you a dirty look before leaving to help out, but not before bidding you "good luck!"
when you finally made it to the volleyball courts, you spotted him immediately.
he'd done a spike, the slap echoing so loud that it drew the attention of other students passing by. paired with the sound of feet skidding against the ground and the thumps of balls making contact with skin, you decided that you hated the courts. it felt like walking into a battle zone - always fearing you'll get hit by a ball when you're not looking. once, ningning got hit in the face by a baseball and her eye had actually been pushed inwards into her socket. of course, that wasn't on a court, but you weren't taking your chances.
unfortunately, you still had to make sure everything was going smoothly and take note of how many more rounds were left.
"excuse me! students who aren't playing aren't allowed to step into the courts," the teacher yelled at you from the other side.
"sorry, but i have to check on you guys, i'm part of the student council," you explained as you crept closer.
"but-"
"my bad, mr. jeon. i forgot to tell you to expect our vice president to come around eventually, since she's taking over my duties for the day," heeseung said as came jogging up to you two.
"ah, really? was volleyball taking up your time? you should have told me! i wouldn't want this to get in the way of your work."
"no, it's okay. i wanted to play, and she's very reliable," he gestured to you.
"if you say so."
"right," you started, finally looking at heeseung for the first time that day. you nodded your thanks to him, to which he gave a quick thumbs up to before rejoining the game.
"how many sets are left?" you asked mr. jeon, pulling out your pen to note down on your clipboard.
"two. this is our final game of the day."
"great! who won for the girl's team earlier today? i'm sorry i couldn't come earlier. i thought it might be best to come later in the day so i could get all the results at once."
"don't worry about it. the boys' games are always more interesting anyway - in the sense that it's a little more dramatic, what with all the force they put in their hits."
right at that moment, the resounding boom of the ball hitting a wall interrupted you two. geez, were these guys playing with a ball or setting off canons? why men are so aggressive, you'll never understand.
"perfect timing," mr. jeon chuckled. "well anyway, the U-16 girls won the first game, but the U-19 team won the second-"
you should have minded the ongoing game. it was the number one rule when you were on a court, but you foolishly got distracted with mr. jeon's own clipboard. of course, the moment you let your guard down, the ball flew your way, right when you were shifting your stance and was therefore a little more unstable than usual.
the volleyball hit you right in the chest, and had you falling to the ground. by instinct, you tried to catch yourself - but instead of your palms reaching out backwards to save you, it was your elbows that hit the ground.
"fuck!" you cried at the pain that seared through your arm.
"oh my god, are you alright?" the team suddenly ran up to you, with mr. jeon himself trying to help you up.
"i'm so sorry! i didn't mean to." one of the team members apologised.
"watch it next time," heeseung's stern voice came, but you were more focused on trying to minimise the pain as much as possible.
"where does it hurt? your elbow? can you try moving it for me?"
you did as mr. jeon instructed, but underestimated how much it would hurt.
"oh, that popping sound does not sound normal," heeseung commented.
"heeseung, take her to the infirmary."
he nodded and grabbed your unaffected elbow, asking if it was okay. you nodded and followed him as he started leading the way to the school nurse.
"does it still hurt?"
"if i move it, yeah."
"sorry about that."
"it's fine. it happens." a quick silence followed.
"well, you should go to the doctor later. the nurse probably won't do much, maybe just hand you an ice pack or something else useless," he joked. you laughed.
"yeah. she never really does much, does she? all those years of school just to hand us ice packs for a broken bone or twisted ankle."
"right! even the PE department is better equipped for more serious injuries."
"mhm."
another bout of silence. you were going to go crazy, either from the awkwardness of it all or the immense pain in your right arm. you looked at heeseung's back, and the sweat on his skin, soaking his shirt.
"hey, you can go back if you want to," you told him suddenly. "i can walk myself to the infirmary, it's not like i hurt my leg or anything."
"i know, but i'd feel more at ease if i saw you there myself. you're my vice president, of course i'm concerned."
well, you didn't know how to feel about that. you've been downgraded from his crush to coworker, but he still cares for you. so maybe that was a plus?
"i see."
as expected, you were given a cold pack for your elbow and sent to the local hospital. luckily, it was only a ten minute drive and the nurse accompanied you as a staff member drove you two there. heeseung watched you get in the car and leave, going back to his game.
the next time you went to school (two days later), your right arm was in a sling and you pretended like that wasn’t just the most embarrassing moment of your life.
“you’re ambidextrous?” heeseung whispered to you while everyone else was focused on the movie projected.
the council had waited for you to return before they held their (secret) party, since it just felt wrong to hold one when their vice president was suffering in pain and away. up until now, heeseung had only known you used your right hand from all those meetings.
he'd been paying attention to that?
“i’m a better writer with my right.”
“but you can still write well with your left,” he said, impressed. “you really are amazing”
you stared at him, the look of awe on his face, and the slight smile of his mouth. you really had no idea what to say, flustered by his comment.
then he seemed to realise what he was doing, and quickly turned to back to the movie.
“my mom wanted a left-handed daughter, and would always switch the pencil to my left hand when i was younger,” you told him. you had the sudden urge to spill a bit more of your life to him.
“ah, really?” he replied, still looking the other way.
“yeah, but at that point i was already used to my right. i ended up being able to write with both hands though.”
“oh, you can do that?” soobin joined in the conversation. you nodded at him with wide eyes, not expecting the sudden interruption.
“do what?” hanni asked.
“she can write using both her hands. isn’t she so cool?”
“really?” she gasped, looking at the pen in your left hand. “wow. our vice president is way cooler than the president himself.”
“hey!” heeseung exclaimed as everyone giggled.
“seriously though, she’s the whole package. smart, talented, and pretty?” soobin lowered his voice in a mock-whisper, “i can treat you way better than this guy," he joked, pointing his thumb at heeseung.
“alright, i think we need to get a new treasurer,” heeseung suddenly said. he pointed at the projection and yelled, “look! ernesto's actually the villain!” this successfully put everyone's attention back on the movie, all shocked by the plot twist. (you already knew, because coco was your favourite airplane movie.)
when the party finished up, heeseung actually stayed behind this time, and helped you clean up.
“oh, you really don’t have to,” you told him.
“it’s fine, it’s quicker like this. it’s not fair to make you clean up when you don’t have two working hands.”
you watched as he put away the heavy binders and throw out the trash, feeling a little off-put by the new scene. you thought that maybe you should just go home and leave him to lock up, but he wasn’t saying anything, so you stayed and kept him company. his presence was surprisingly comforting.
“you have the keys?”
“yeah,” you answered, trying to open your backpack.
heeseung made his way over and opened your bag for you. “here, i’ll get it. tell me where it is.”
“oh, uhhh in the pocket there. the left one.”
he found the keys and took them before closing the bag again. he waited for you to put it back on, but noticed you struggling a little with the books in your arm.
“why don’t you just put these in your bag?” he asked, taking them from your good arm and helping you slip your injured one through a strap.
“it’ll be really heavy if i do.” you then thanked him, gesturing for him to give back your textbooks.
instead, he kept them, even holding the door open and waiting for you to pass by first.
“where do you live? i’ll try to help you bring these home.”
“you really-”
“it’s fine, i promise. in fact, i insist.” at your expression, he added, “what kind of president would i be if i didn’t help out my vice?”
right. president. and vice president. not friends, not even classmates. just coworkers.
you rolled your eyes and let him help you. “i usually take the bus home. the one that goes to the museum.”
“ah, i know that one. i usually walk home, but i think there’s a stop that bus goes to that’s near my house. so let’s go.”
heeseung led the way, walking in front of you so you took the chance to observe him from behind.
recently, you noticed that although he always looked put together and clean at the beginning of the day, his hair and clothes felt more loose and casual towards the end of the day - particularly on the longer days where there were council meetings after school. you like this version of him; you feel closer to this heeseung, because it’s a side that only you (and the other members) got to see. it felt a little bit like a secret.
“sorry, looks like my stop is earlier than yours. are you fine with carrying these yourself from here?”
“yep.”
“alright. well then, okay.” when he stood up as the bus stopped, he turned to you and waved lightly. “bye bye!” it was a little endearing - the way he'd said it.
“see you.”
you immediately flopped onto your bed when you reached home (on your back side, of course). it was an… odd day, but you didn’t dislike it.
after a bit of a struggle, you finally fished your phone from your bag, sending ningning a message.
“i think you took my advice too seriously,” ningning chortled during class the next day. “when i said i’d break my leg i didn’t mean actually getting injured!”
you dragged your hand down your face, asking whatever being was listening to your pleas to make your best friend stop teasing you.
“it’s not like i sprained my elbow on purpose??”
“oh girl, you don’t have a single athletic bone do you?”
“you know what, maybe i need to learn to shut up and stop telling you things.”
“i know you won’t. when you’re with me, your attempt at a mysterious persona disappears…”
“are you saying i’m loud?” you ask in mock-offense.
“i’m saying you yap a lot,” she rolls her eyes playfully. “but seriously, who knew getting hit by a volleyball would lead you and The Heeseung finally talk. maybe that guy should’ve thrown one at you when we were fourteen.”
“when did you start rooting for him?” you raised an eyebrow at her.
“i just thought he deserved a chance,” she shrugged nonchalantly, but the way she turned away didn’t sit right with you.
“oh, okay,” was all you came up with.
“so, anyway,” she started again after a moment. “i stalked my ex’s spotify and-”
“oh my god,” you groaned at the mention of her ex. “ningning i told you before, you need to forget about him.”
“i know, i know. but i couldn’t help it! his user was just there on the side, and he was listening to memories!! by conan gray!! i had to see what playlist he was listening to.”
“you need to block his spotify.”
“but that’s so embarrassing. it’s never that deep.”
“if you can’t move on from someone who convinced you that you were nothing without him, then maybe it is that deep.”
ningning sighed. “okay, i’ll block him. but do you want to know what his latest playlist was about?”
“duh,” you laughed as ningning pulled out her phone, promising to block him after.
heeseung continued to help you on the way home every time you guys had a meeting, to your surprise. during those bus rides home, you learned way more about the boy in three weeks than you ever had in your three and a half years of knowing each other. you wondered what had made him like you so much before this if he never even really knew you.
“but i did,” he said. “i did know you.”
“did you really?” you asked, thinking he was joking.
“well, at first, i obviously didn’t. i just thought you were pretty, and fun to annoy. so i kept asking you out just to see your response. after that, i did begin to like you - on a superficial level, of course; i was fifteen!”
you listened intently, finally getting answers to a question you didn’t realise you’d been curious about for so long yourself. heeseung didn’t look at you at all during his monologue, but straight forward instead. so you were able to observe the way the gold light from the sun highlighted his features perfectly. (did he always have such a perfect nose?)
“and then there was a time where i just got tired of it. i wanted to stop, but then everyone would have thought it was out of character. so even though i didn’t even like you anymore - in fact, i hated you, i still kept asking you out. just for show. stupid, right?
“but then, one time, i accidentally ran into you at a shop with ningning. actually, more like i saw you and hid behind one of the aisles. but i heard you say you wanted to get something for your siblings too, and i was like, ‘wow, she actually cares about others?’ back then, i was convinced you only thought about yourself.
“another time, you posted one of your competition wins on your instagram, and i could see from the caption how much you adored your team, even tagging each one of them and thanking them individually. i had never seen someone put that much effort into a simple win before. i kind of felt like i wasn’t thankful enough to my own volleyball team,” he chuckled to himself.
“what really had me falling for you though was when you tutored my sister last year . before that, she'd been going through some sort of mental struggle, what with being bullied at school and coming home to our parents telling her she should be ashamed of her grades. i felt so bad that i couldn’t do anything, you know? her older brother; her protector, but couldn’t do anything against the very people who should have been protecting the both of us. when she’d been signed up with you though, she came home for the first time in a good mood - she was humming! and i asked if something good happened at school, and she told me all about her amazing tutor that assured her she wasn’t the useless being she thought she was. how she was finally beginning to understand school for once, and looked forward to your sessions. when i learned that was you, i wanted so surprised, but so grateful."
you had never felt so touched until now. somehow, heeseung’s words made you feel like you really were worth more than you believed.
“really? wait, who’s your sister?”
“lee haseul. the one with autism, remember?”
“ah yes, of course i do!” you said, the name ringing a bell in your head. “she was definitely a little harder to tutor, but once we found a way to use her fixation on cars and link it to what we were learning, it was smooth sailing from there.”
“i really have no idea how you did that, but you have no idea the impact that had on me and my family. sometimes she asks me what it’s like working with you,” he finally turned to look at you, a pretty smile on his face. your face burned at the adoration on his face, looking away yourself.
“i hope you tell her good things about me.”
“there’s not a bad thing to say.”
“really?”
“really.”
when heeseung left the bus that day, a part of him still stayed with you, as words that constantly replayed in your mind.
it made you feel a little self-conscious, knowing that he’d been watching you this closely all this time. you felt like your efforts were appreciated, and that they weren’t for nothing after all. while your admiration of him only begun after really seeing him work on the council, his respect for you had been brewing for way longer.
you went to bed thinking about him way more than you usually did (and you’ve been thinking about him more often since you sprained your elbow). you found yourself a little more excited for the next meeting day, when he’d go home with you again.
what would you guys talk about? will he tell you more of his thoughts? maybe his other interests? should you ask about his team and work? how was he handling all that? or perhaps you should ask about his sister. anything, really. you just wanted to talk. to him.
oh no, you sounded like a typical high school girl with a crush just now, didn’t you? (well, that’s exactly what you are - no shame in that, though!) if your arm wasn’t injured, you would have been punching your pillow and screaming into it right now.
oh, right - the elbow. for the first time, you really didn’t want it to heal. you wanted it to stay sprained for as long as possible, but that would be stupid, and inconvenient. but then, how else would you talk to heeseung outside of council work? it’s not like you two shared any classes, nor did you run in the same circles at school. the bus rides home were really the only times you got to really talk to heeseung, without all the eyes watching you two.
a small part of you began to dread the day your cast came off, because that would mean heeseung would stop talking to you again, right? he wouldn’t have any reason to riding home with you, and it would go back to that awkward thing you two had.
you sigh and turn over, careful with your arm, and finally fall into a fitful sleep.
“you’re staring at him again.”
that sentence had you flinching away and turning back to ningning, looking at you with a knowing glint.
“i can’t help it! his hair just looks so messy, obviously i’m going to notice.”
“his hair looks the same way it always does…”
“well- look at him walking around like he owns the place! he thinks he’s the shit, doesn’t he?”
“to be fair, he’s the student body president and captain of the volleyball team. maybe he is.”
“why are you defending him?!” you cried at all her replies.
“why are you trying to hard to hate him! we both know how much you li-”
“okay, okay, shhhh,” you shut her up by covering her mouth. really, she needed to learn to shut up. it’s not like the whole world needed to know about your massive crush on the boy you previously hated.
ningning pushed your hands away. “why are you more fixated on him today than usual anyway?”
"okay, first of all," you scoffed at her. "you make it sound like i'm always fixated on him."
"you are."
you rolled your eyes, then bit your lip after a moment of thought, knowing that whatever you were about to say would sound stupid(ly in love).
“it’s just that, i finally got my cast off this past weekend, so i can carry my books home perfectly fine again.”
“ah, and so he won’t be escorting you home anymore like he had been these past five weeks,” ningning finished your train of thought.
you buried your face in your arms, flushing bright red. “god, i sound like an idiot. i hate that i even thought that.”
the girl laughed at you, but patted your back consolingly.
“don’t worry about it. i don’t think heeseung’s gonna stop taking the bus with you just because you’re healed now. trust me, he’s one of the caring people i know.” was that a bit of sadness and longing? maybe you were interpreting her tone wrong.
“he probably will! it’s not like he used to take the bus home before i got hurt.” you peeked up at her. “is it wrong to ask you to throw another ball at me?”
“girl…”
when that day’s meeting finally ended, you and heeseung worked in tandem, tidying up the room before locking up, albeit a little more slowly. it was like both of you were waiting for something, but never said it out loud,
as you finally made your way out the school, you and heeseung turned to each other, hoping the other would say something.
“well-” heeseung started at the same time you said, “are you-”
after a brief moment of awkward silence, you guys burst into soft laughter at the silliness of the situation. what were you so afraid of anyway?
“do you still want to ride with me?” you finally asked him.
“if that’s okay with you.”
“of course it is,” you rolled your eyes playfully, falling into step with him.
“honestly, i thought you were going to go back to walking home after i healed up,” you confessed to him on the bus. “it made me kind of sad.”
“you’d miss me?” he teased, but there was excitement in his tone. he was elated.
“well, these rides are kind of fun! i wish i got to know you like this sooner. and then i thought we’d go back to the way we were before after this, but ningning assured me that it’d be fine.”
“ah yeah, ningning’s cool. wish i had a close friend like her by my side.”
it didn’t click until now how they seemed to be familiar with each other. when did heeseung and ningning become friends? in fact, when did they get a chance to even talk to each other?
“are you friends with her?” you tried to ask nonchalantly, like the topic wasn’t bugging you now. if those two were friends, why didn’t ningning mention it to you?
heeseung seemed to notice the shift in your mood though. “we’re just friends, promise. there’s nothing between us.”
that eased you a little, but that wasn’t really your main concern.
“that’s nice to know. but how did you become friends? i thought you two were was close as me and you were before all this.”
“oh! we met up at summer camp. it was purely by coincidence; my parents decided to send me to one last summer, and she happened to be there. i didn’t know anyone else, so i stuck by her for most of the two weeks we were there. we got to know each other then.”
ningning’s summer camp. last summer had been her third year there, so she wasn’t new or anything. the programme usually lasted two weeks, and they’d take away their phones during that time, so you’d have no contact with her until it ended.
but you’re surprised she didn’t tell you about it when she came back. after all, she had said it was ‘just as usual’, but seeing the new face of your best friend’s (previously) most hated person didn’t seem like nothing.
“huh.”
“i swear though, there was nothing between us back then.”
“i see.”
“i hadn’t talked to her much after my date with you-”
the date. ningning had been the one to push you to go. but why? even if her and heeseung became friends during camp, you and her were still closer. so why did she switch sides? you’d thought it was odd how she was suddenly encouraging you to say yes, when she’d spent the last four years sticking her tongue out at heeseung by your side.
the date, which had gone both so bad and yet so good. when everything had gone terribly wrong, but heeseung did everything right.
“i’m so sorry for being late!” heeseung panted as he ran up to your table.
“the one time i give you a chance, and you’re an hour late, lee.”
“i know, i know. it’s just that my sister-”
“i’m not hearing out any excuses,” you huffed.
you’d felt so humiliated waiting for him. you were shaking, your hair was frizzy with stress and your make up probably a little smudged too. the staff had even given you a free cheesecake slice out of pity. a pity cake.
“whatever, you’re here now, so let’s get this over with”
the waitress came over and gave you an encouraging look (which you ignored) and took your orders. when your meals arrived, you stared at the orange slices in the sauce of your orange chicken. although you hated them, you actually loved the sauce and chicken itself, so you ordered them every time you went to a chinese restaurant.
“you don’t like the oranges?” heeseung asked after seeing you pick them out.
“not really, no. i don’t know how to explain it; i love orange chicken, but i hate actually seeing the oranges on the sauce. it’s a little bit jarring for me, fruits and savoury foods together just don’t make sense to me visually, but when i taste them, they’re so good. just like pineapples on pizza, you get me?”
“i guess,” he thinks out loud. he uses his own chopsticks and starts picking them out from your plate, placing them onto his. “mind if i take these then? i love oranges.”
“i’ve literally seen you throw out a whole orange at school before.”
“you were watching?” he smiled sheepishly, a light pink tint to his cheeks.
“n-not particularly.” you look back down at your food, focusing on your task. you need to be more careful with what you say.
after a terrible start to your date, the rest of your lunch went okay. it wasn’t too bad, and you two started discussing your next plan: watching a movie.
“i’m not even a marvel fan,” you told heeseung after he said he’d gotten two tickets for spiderman: no way home.
“don’t worry, i’ll explain everything to you during the movie.”
“really? also, isn’t a movie a terrible date idea? we wouldn’t really talk to each other.”
“well, i will. i tend to talk a lot during movies.” he turned to you with an apologetic look. “i hope you won’t mind.”
“i’ll need it, won’t i?”
turns out you didn’t need his talking during the movie because you two didn't even get to watch it. a kitchen in the food court next to the theatre had gone up in flames, with the fire spreading to it’s surroundings. thankfully, no one died, but the damage was pretty severe, with half the mall having to close down until reparations are finished. and who knows how long that’ll take…
“oh! well, it’s a good thing i was a little late then, right?” heeseung tried to lighten up this messy date as you two passed by the mall which was now in ashes.
“i guess,” you mumbled. “so what now?”
“well, how about a little bowling?” he suggested.
you nodded, and he drove you two to the local bowling alley. you hadn't done it since you were eight, so heeseung showed you how to do it on your first turn.
“swing your arm like this,” he said, holding onto your bicep and holding onto the ball for you.
“you can let go, you know. i can carry the weight, it’s only the small size after all.”
“i know, but it’s just for demonstration. i’m going to let go of the ball now, okay? make sure to hold tightly,” he looked at you intently. geez, how could someone telling you to hold a bowling ball look at you like you hung the stars?
well, you didn’t really need his help anyway. your instincts kicked in and you managed to hit nine pins all together on your first, with similar numbers for the rest of the rounds. you even got a strike twice!
“are you sure you’ve never bowled before?” heeseung chuckled in awe.
“positive.”
“it always surprises me how easily you pick up things.”
“…thanks.”
and then you hit very few pins every single round after that in the second game.
you hadn’t been able to finish your second game however, because a heavy downpour suddenly came down.
“oh my god, the water is rising so fast,” you called over to heeseung as you looked out the glass doors of the main exit. if the floor hadn’t been lifted, the water would have started flowing in by now.
“crap, should we go home before it gets worse?”
“i suggest you should, kids,” the man behind the counter gruffed. he himself was getting ready to go, with the other customers running outside to their own cars.
heeseung looked outside and then at you.
“you can’t walk outside in those shoes, they’ll get wet.”
you were wearing pointy slip ons that would definitely get wet and soaked if you took a step outside, but it’s not like you had a choice.
“it’s alright, let’s just go-woah!”
heeseung picked you up bridal style and started making his way to his car, going fast but careful not to slip.
“hey! let me down!”
“no way, we’re almost there.”
you tried to fight him off, but he just held tightly until you reached the car, and he gently set you down into the passenger seat before backing out of the parking lot.
“are you crazy?”
“are you?” he retorted. “like hell i’m letting you get all soaked on our first date.”
you wheezed. “this date was so unlucky. who imagined everything that happened could’ve happened.”
“i know! and i wanted to make a good impression so bad. it’s like the world is against me,” he whined.
as you finally reached the front of your apartment complex, heeseung turned to you one last time.
“i’m sorry for everything that went wrong. please let me make it up to you.” he sucked in a breath, and you realised what he was going to say just a moment before he did.
“will you let me take you out on another date?”
yes. absolutely. this was fun. it was terrible, but i had a great time. wait, is this him asking me to be his girlfriend? i should ask. if he says yes, would i say yes? i don’t know, i don’t know him that well. i’ve only really only talked to him today. today’s date. everything went wrong. what if that was a sign? if i say yes, will all our dates just keep going to shit? no way, today was just an anomaly. we’ll be fine. but then when i go back to school, everyone will know. they’ll all look at me like they knew this would happen. they’ll clap him on the back and whoop in the halls, that’ll be so embarrassing. i hate that. maybe i should say no. but he was so sweet. it’s not his fault. but i wouldn’t be able to handle the attention. maybe i should-
“oh… i see.”
you looked up at him in confusion. but he wasn’t looking at you anymore. just straight ahead.
had you said something out loud? your thoughts were running wild, and you really couldn’t make up your mind.
“okay, well. have a good night,” heeseung said. when did he make his way to your door? even through the heartbreak clearly displayed in his voice, he still went out and opened the door for you. or maybe he was kicking you out of his car. was ningning right? had he thought you were undateable?
too much. too much was happening; so much happened today that you couldn’t form an answer. heeseung took your silence as a no (or did you actually say no? out of instinct?), which made your mind even more befuddled. you weren’t sure if you were even forming a coherent thought.
“oh, okay.”
you somehow made it out of the car and to the entrance of the apartment. turning back, you found heeseung’s car still there, with him watching you. you gave a weak wave, one he didn’t return, and punched in your house number.
at the last moment, you wanted to say something. anything, you didn’t know what. but when you around back to him again, he was gone.
you didn’t sleep at all that night. or maybe you did? you couldn’t tell. you’d been so worried over that last moment with heeseung, and had replayed it so many times in your head.
eventually, you convinced yourself that things were fine. that maybe you just imagined it. maybe it wasn’t that bad, and things would go back to normal at school.
definitely. he’ll definitely get back to his shenanigans when school started up again. there wasn’t some sort of finality in his tone - no you just imagined it.
you were wrong.
“why didn’t you tell me you met heeseung at summer camp?”
“how’d you-”
“he told me.” you looked at ningning intently. “but it should have been you.”
“i just- i didn’t think it was worth mentioning! you hated the guy, and it’s not like him being there would have affected you in any way,” she defended herself.
“sure, but i would have appreciated hearing it from you. you knew i’ve had a crush on him for months now, and you could have mentioned it to me?? summer camp was in july; it’s already march for fuck’s sake!”
“i wanted to! i just couldn’t find the right time. you were always busy with student council stuff, and whenever you were free you always talked about heeseung,” he huffed exasperatedly. “how was i supposed to just go, ‘by the way, your crush paid me to set you guys up!’”
your head snapped towards her.
“what?”
“what do you mean wh-” when ningning saw the look on your face, she slapped her hands over her mouth. “you didn’t know about that part...”
“no. i didn’t,” you seethed. “well, i’m glad i got to hear at least something from you.”
you stormed out, ignoring ningning’s pleas of ‘wait! hear me out!’
a fool, that’s what you were. somehow, ningning’s behaviour was even more clear. your best friend had been paid to convince you to say yes. who would have thought she was easily swayed by a few bucks?
and to think that heeseung was really that desperate to take you on a date, going so far as to pay someone close to you to get you to agree? wow, he really was a grade A asshole. sports day had just been topped by ‘being played by my own best friend and crush’ on your list of most embarrassing moments.
speed walking through the halls, you couldn’t stand to look at the pictures of you and heeseung’s faces on the student council board. it hurt so bad, that your feelings could just be easily bought. that someone you considered as family could sell you out like this. that the guy you’d fallen for would go to this length to ‘get you’.
at the bus stop, you saw the man himself smile brightly at you and wave, like he didn’t pay your best friend to get you to go in a date with him. one thing that never fails to amaze you is the audacity of men.
was it all a lie? was his kind-hearted and caring personality all fake? just another thing he did to get your attention? did you truly know heeseung like you thought? or just the 'heeseung' he wanted you to see?
you pointedly looked away, and decided to go home by foot. it was twenty minutes away by walking, but that was enough time for you to at least calm down a little and think about it more. sort out your mind.
you ended up skipping the rest of the week, convincing your parents you were sick (by putting a hot pack on your face and neck before they checked). otherwise, you might have actually broken down right then at school if you saw either heeseung or ningning.
"is everything okay?" soobin asked one day.
"yeah! everything's fine," you said cheerily. "why do you ask?"
"well, it's just that you've been sitting with us instead of ningning."
looking at soobin and his friends, you finally noticed the slight awkward air in the group because of your presence. to be fair, you weren't really close with them to begin with. or anyone. you spent most of your lunch breaks with ningning, but now that you've refused to talk to her for the last two weeks, you've been floating between different groups. sometimes, you even spent lunch in the toilets or the student council room.
but who else could you spend it with? you weren't ready to face ningning yet, and it was already hard enough tolerating heeseung during meetings. you didn't miss the worried looks from him, and he's tried to talk to you several times (which you always declined).
a sigh escapes you, and you massage your forehead. obviously, you needed to confront them both eventually. but not right now. whatever the answer is, you don't think you'd be able to handle it right now.
"do you want to talk about it?" soobin asked, a low volume only for you to hear.
"maybe later," you admitted. it would be a good idea to tell an outsider all of this, especially to soobin, who's always been a great advice-giver.
"there won't be a meeting this friday; seniors are having a rehearsal for the graduation ceremony then. the school wanted to have one before finals started," heeseung told the council. he looked around and asked, "anything else?" at everyone's silence, he nodded and closed the meeting. everyone bid their goodbyes and left, except soobin.
heeseung stared at you with anticipation and uncertainty. he'd given up on asking you to talk for a while now, but still waited for you to act first. he understood that you'd come to him when you were ready.
you looked up at soobin, looking at you with a similar expression, but one that had more curiousity and less anxiety.
"let's go?" he asked. you nodded and followed him out, leaving heeseung to lock up on his own.
you started doing that ever since The Incident. of course, you didn't leave all the clean up work to him, but you rushed your own responsibilities to minimise as much time you had to spend with him as possible.
"seriously?"
you and soobin turned back, finding the voice belonging to heeseung. he was standing outside the student council room, looking at you two, fuming. you could practically see the steam coming out his ears.
"you ignore and shun me away, refusing to talk about this issue between us, but talk to soobin about it instead? why are you dragging him into this??"
you rolled your eyes and turned to him fully, blood boiling. "i'm not 'dragging him into this'. i just wanted to talk to someone, is that so wrong?" you retorted.
"yes! you seriously think getting soobin's opinion is gonna help?"
"am i not allowed to talk to him now? are you going to pay him to stop talking to me too?"
"god, i know it was wrong of me, okay?! i'm sorry, it was shitty of me."
"your apology isn't going to suddenly make everything better. it won't take back what you did."
"i know. but please, talk to me. it's driving me crazy, how you go about acting normal with everyone but me. this whole year, did you not feel anything for me at all? do you really hate me?" he asked, his voice cracking at the end. "if you do, tell me now. so i can finally move on."
you stared at the boy, and the way the late afternoon sunlight hit him from behind. you could barely make out his expression, but maybe that was for the better. you probably wouldn't have been able to turn away and stand your ground if you saw the look on his face.
"you can't say that. not when you were the one who put yourself in this situation. did you think i would never find out? that you bribed my best friend into setting me up with you?" you heard soobin's surprised gasp on the side.
although you had your back to heeseung, you could still imagine what he looked like. the scene broke your heart, but not as much as it did when you found out that ningning had even agreed to such a thing.
after it was clear he wasn't going to reply, you started walking away, with soobin tailing you.
"wow... so that's what happened," was the first thing he said after a few minutes of silence.
"yeah."
"what a dick move."
"right."
you sighed, the adrenaline leaving you and now realising how loud you two had been. there weren't many students left at school, but a teacher or two probably heard the commotion. you'll be the hot topic of the staff lounge room for sure.
when you finally explained it all to soobin, he was quiet for a moment, thoughtful.
"i honestly never expected this from heeseung. it just- it doesn't seem like him."
"that's what i thought too. a little part of me wishes it's all some misunderstanding, but i don't know how it could be twisted any other way."
soobin hummed in agreement. "but, i noticed one thing from all of this though: you still call ningning your best friend," he pointed out. "despite everything, you've already forgiven her. or at least, you've begun to."
you bit your lip, realising he was right. you were beginning to accept it. she seemed genuinely sorry, and you could never hate her forever.
"it's just that - after getting to know heeseung, i felt like a terrible person for not giving him a chance. for always turning him down harshly. maybe i drove him to bribe ningning, maybe she got fed up with me too. i couldn't help but feel guilty for causing both of them to act like this.
"and i know this sounds wrong... but somehow, i felt a little relieved that i wasn't the only person in the wrong. that i wasn't the only asshole in this story - isn't that such a twisted thought?"
soobin melted when he saw your face, and pulled you in for a hug.
"of course not. it's alright to feel like this, you know? it's what makes us human, and what are humans without complicated feelings?"
and just like that, a dam was broken. you didn't realise how much you needed to hear those words until he said them.
it wasn't until may that you finally mustered up the courage to finally talk to ningning, and it seemed she had the same idea too.
"please, can we talk?" she asked at the same time you called her name.
"i was just about to ask the same thing."
once you two found an empty classroom, ningning started immediately.
"listen," she called for your attention. "i'm so sorry. you have no idea how many times i want to say it; i'm sorry, i'm sorry, i'm sorry. it was such a light offer, really. i didn't realise the meaning it would have in the moment."
"what do you mean, a 'light offer'?"
"during camp, i had bought heeseung's sister some ice cream because she was being left out by the other kids. it was only like two dollars, but heeseung insisted on repaying. but the smallest bill he had was a five, so obviously i refused. but he kept asking me to take it and i told him that if i took it, i'd be the one in debt to him instead. so he made a light-hearted joke about getting you to go on a date with him, so that there'd be no hard feelings between us." she looked up at you pleadingly. "we'd been joking around, i didn't even realise the reality of his question. but when i got back from camp, i didn't think you'd actually go on one with him."
"you kept bringing it up; i trusted your opinion."
"i did, but i didn't really mean it. i was hoping you'd continue to say no, and i could just tell him something like 'sorry, i tried. here's your three dollars back.'"
"you didn't mean it?" you prodded.
ningning looked down at her hands and sighed. you could tell something was weighing on her.
"the truth is... i ended up catching feelings for heeseung. you know how i'd just broken up with my ex recently."
you thought back to her ex, who had isolated ningning from you and her other friends. how she'd come to school covered up even in the heat. the way she'd lost a worrying amount of weight. in all honesty, you should have tried to pry more; to break her out of this toxic relationship. but instead, you told yourself that there wasn't anything you could do, and left her to deal with the abuse on her own.
the guilt ate you, but you distracted yourself with work (and heeseung). god, you're so self-centred, aren't you?
"oh yeah, i remember very well."
"exactly," she says, hearing the loathing in your voice. "heeseung was the first person to show me genuine kindness after that whole affair. and so i found myself watching him over those two weeks, falling for him. and i thought to myself: if you didn't want him, then could i? i feel like the worst person ever, how could i even think that?"
her voice broke at the end, and you could see her silently crying; tears poured down her face but her sobs were inaudible. you'd noticed it was a habit she formed after getting with her ex. she'd never cried much before him, but she used to cry as loudly as you. you placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"it's okay. you're not the only one with shitty thoughts."
her wide eyes peered up at you, sparkling with tears. she wrapped her arms around you, and you reciprocated the embrace.
the way she'd hiccuped and the wet spot you could feel forming on your shirt yet the silent sobs broke your own heart, and you had to force your own tears down.
"i'm sorry too. i was too absorbed in my own life that i didn't pay enough attention to the way you were breaking. i mean, how did i not notice anything all this time?"
you wondered if her smile had ever wavered when she was with you, if she had to fake a laugh, or even force herself to talk to you this past year. dealing with her own problems on her own, while you vented to her yours. if she had, you didn't notice (someone give you a 'best friend of the year' award right now!).
as much as you wanted to hate her for liking heeseung, you didn't. you understood her feelings, especially after getting to know the boy himself. he brought a sense of safety with him wherever he went - so how could you ever hate your best friend for needing that security when no one else offered it to her?
"wait, can i ask you something?" you asked. ningning slipped from the embrace, nodding.
"if you liked heeseung, then why did you still ask me to accept his date offers? you could have just kept it from me, and told him that i said no. was it really just because of the three dollar 'debt'?"
"ah, right. well, when he'd asked me to get you to go on a date with me, it reminded me just how much he liked you. i don't think he'd ever see me the same way, not when his sights are so fixed on you. and after getting a taste of his hospitality, i felt that you deserved it too. that not only did he deserve a chance, but so did you.
"i realised that you needed someone like him. i couldn't give you the care and support he could, not when i'm too absorbed by my own problems. and i knew you were feeling guilty, and heeseung was the only one who could really understand you."
oh, you really were going to either jump off a cliff or hug her so tight her eyeballs might pop out. even when you neglected, she still thought about you through it all. heeseung was wrong, he made you out to be this caring person who thought of others, but that person was really ningning.
"but, what about you? you need care and support too."
"it wouldn't work out between us, he's not the kind of person i want. he was just the first kind person in a while. i need to heal and learn to be more independent myself."
a quiet moment followed, with the both of you lost in your thoughts and emotions. you hadn't felt this lonely in so long, and a weight had finally been lifted from your shoulders.
"so what are you going to do? have you talked to heeseung yet?"
"no, not yet. but he's waited four years now, he can wait a little longer. i just want to spend time with my best friend right now."
'a little longer' ended up being another month. when finals started, the school let the older years off on study leave to focus on exams. so you didn't end up seeing heeseung until the final graduation rehearsal.
as president and vice president, you two were expected to perform a speech and be next to each other the whole ceremony. so you decided it was the perfect time to confront him then.
"heeseung, wait," you called, grabbing onto his wrist as he walked by.
he immediately paused in his tracks, whipping around to look at you with wide eyes, surprised you'd finally decided to talk to him. you glanced at his friends behind him, all with a mix of curious and knowing looks.
"oh, uh, you guys can go ahead," he told them, and they left you two alone.
"i made up with ningning..." you told him.
"i see! that- that's good. im happy you guys did."
"...and i'm sorry. for making a big deal out of nothing. for making you wait so long. you're seriously one of the sweetest people i've ever met. you didn't deserve that."
heeseung shook his head in protest. "no, don't say that. i'd wait for you as long as you want, even if you never accept me. and it was a big deal. i'm guessing she told you?" you nodded. "it was fucked up of me to even make a joke like that. in fact, it was worse than if it was a genuine deal. and i can't just buy your love with three dollars, you're worth more than that." you tried to say something, but heeseung continued.
"i screwed up, i know. but i never lied to you. if there's one thing i've always been sure of, it was loving you. don't you ever feel like you have to love me back though, it's not something you can force. but i'll always have your back. no matter how many fights, how many fuck-ups, or if i ever lose my feelings for you - which might never happen. you can always fall back on me for support."
your eyes watered at his sincerity, feeling unworthy of his kindness.
"i don't deserve that though. ningning does."
"you both do. listen to me," he said, grabbing onto your shoulders and forcing you to look up at him. "don't you ever dare say that you're undeserving of love and support. every one does, but i know who you are; i know how hard you work and your honesty. and i want to guarantee you a home with me, if you ever need one. because i love you."
wow. you've cried so much these past few months, and you're sure you're about to start again. heeseung wiped your tears with his thumb, and your heart swelled.
a year ago, you would have never even thought of accepting heeseung's feelings. a few months ago, you thought you had just missed him, finally reciprocating his feelings right as he lost them. but now you were finally on the same page, and you didn't want to waste another moment.
"i love you, heeseung."
graduation day was a busy one. you had to start getting ready earlier than other students in order to prepare your speech and arrive before everyone else. it was stressful, yet rewarding, especially as you crossed the stage and finally received your diploma.
when you and heeseung were set to give your pre-written speeches, you almost didn't notice the way everyone looked motivated during his, being captured by his words yourself. you hoped to be able to instil that inspiration in others one day.
towards the end of his speech though, he did something you didn't expect, but shouldn't have been surprised by.
"so toward my fellow graduates and our families who've supported us all this way, let's celebrate our achievements and strive to follow our dreams," then turned to look back at you, pulling a bouquet of flowers from under podium, which he'd blocked from your view this whole time with his body. "as i will be with mine. so i'll ask one last time: would you let me have the honour of being your boyfriend?"
you rolled your eyes, but couldn't hide the smile on your face. with the cheers echoing throughout the hall, you suddenly got a sense of deja vu, remembering his election speech the previous year.
oh, how much things have changed since then.
"if only you'll let me be your girlfriend."

with exams over and the heatwave taking over the country, you had decided to spend the day at heeseung's house and try to cool off.
"are you and ningning going back to camp this summer?" you asked, hoping he'd say no. having zero contact with your best friends for two weeks sounded like hell. not even a good morning or good night text? shivers went down your spine at the thought.
"i think i'll be busy with college apps. not sure about ningning though."
"really?" you gasped, turning over to look at him. "so basically i get to spend the whole holiday with you."
heeseung grinned at you excitedly, thinking the same. then, his face suddenly lit up, as if remembering something.
"speaking of ningning, i just remembered how she sprained her leg last year. she spent the rest of the week in the infirmary."
"really? she was fine when she came back though."
"it was minor, so it only took one week, in the middle of those two."
suddenly, you remembered something too.
"i'd hang out with him, break my leg, therefore obliging him to bring me to the hospital, manipulate him to visit me every day as i recover, be overbearing as hell so that he'd realise he doesn't want me anymore, and poof! he's gone."
"no way..."
"what?" he questioned.
"did you have to visit her everyday?"
"oh. yeah, to give her her medicine and meals. the other kids had basically made me their makeshift nurse, since i treated them better than the nurse apparently," he laughed at the memory. "i caught the old lady glaring at me several times - maybe she thought i'd stolen her job?"
you laughed with him, but not only because of his story. you couldn't believe ningning's oddly specific solution had actually come out of experience. you were so going to bully her for this later.
"should i glare at you too, then?"
"hm?" he hummed confusedly.
"for stealing my heart."
heeseung blinked at you for a moment, before breaking into a wide smile and suddenly attacking you with tickles (a habit you learned he tended to do when he was flustered, specifically by you).
giggles escaped you, laughing so hard that it began to hurt. if this is how it's going to be with heeseung, you'll grow abs in no time.
"okay! okay, stop-" you cackled.
he obliged, helping you sit back up. then he tucked your hair behind your hear and placed a quick peck on your lips.
suddenly shy, you looked away with a smile facing the fan as it blew air onto your face, pushing your hair back. when you looked back at heeseung over your shoulder, you were surprised to find him beaming at you with awe on his face.
"you're beautiful, you know?"
"only when i'm with you."
"nope. you're always stunning."
"okay."
"you don't believe me?"
"i do."
"good. i'll keep saying it anyway, to make sure you do."
you stared at him for a moment that felt like hours, just staring into each others eyes. you then went in for a hug, toppling over the other and staying in that position - just you two cuddling on his bed.
sure, it was really hot today, but somehow the warmth from his body was more comfortable than anything else. you couldn't have asked for a more perfect moment.

something's gone terribly wrong
Tumblr media
Geto Suguru appreciated Satoru's soulmate, besides him, his best friend would have another constant in his life. Someone else who would care for him unconditionally, and just like Suguru vowed to protect Satoru - he vowed to protect her. He was strong after all, and the strong must protect the weak.
When Satoru wasn't there, it was Suguru who would keep her safe from curses; curses that reared their ugly heads when Satoru wasn't around. They were far more daring when she was alone, even if Suguru was with her. He was nowhere near as fearsome as his best friend, but he handled the curses just fine without him.
Let the curses underestimate him, it made them easier to deal with, easier to keep her safe from harm.
If Gojo Satoru was on a mission and Suguru was still in the city, then he would routinely check up on her - Satoru couldn't warp at long distances yet, so if anything happened to her, he would not make it in time, so Suguru took it upon himself to be her protector. She needed it and Satoru needed her, and Suguru cared for them both deeply.
Sept. 19, 2006
' ' it's getting dark and it's all so quiet ' '
A curse tried to latch itself onto her when Satoru was cities away on mission, Suguru exorcised it expertly, with her back turned to him without even realizing she was ever in danger.
A soft smile graced his lips, "Everything alright?"
She jumped at his gentle voice, not realizing he was behind her, "Ah, Geto," she returned his gentle smile, "I didn't see you there. I'm alright, you?"
"I'm doing fine," Suguru looked up at the cloudy sky, "Come on, it looks like it's gonna rain. I'll walk you home."
The walk was full of light and awkward chit chat, despite Suguru's best efforts to be friendly. He supposed he shouldn't be too surprised, they had only met a couple of times; he supposed it would take time for her to warm up to him, at least she wasn't given him the cold shoulder like had been to Satoru. Suguru never put in a good word in for his best friend, he had said awful things about her - Satoru deserved her silent treatment.
Suguru wasn't too worried about it though. They were soulmates and while he didn't understand it, he had always admired it. He was even proud of Satoru for discarding his old and stupid opinions of her and actually putting in work to try and win her over.
"Thank you, Geto," She awkwardly waved goodbye to him when they arrived outside her family's bakery.
Suguru only smiled, "No problem."
He turned to leave and scrunched his nose up the gray sky. He was going to get caught in the rain for sure.
Oh well, "See ya."
Suguru's phone buzzed in his pockets:
Gojo.S: thank you :)
The shops bell chimed, and then, chimes again, and she yelled for him.
Suguru tilted his towards her, half-shocked, she had never called out to him before, but there she was with her hands outstretched towards him - a clear plastic umbrella and a styrofoam to go box.
Suguru gingerly took them from her hands, "Thank you."
Her cheeks were slightly pink when their hands brushed, "It's the least I could do. Thank you again for walking me home."
With that, he left with the protection of the umbrella from the rain and hot pastry warming up his hand.
His phone buzzed again:
Gojo.S: no way, she likes you more than me, right???
Gojo.S: I'll fight you >:( don't think that I won't
Suguru chuckled and rolled his eyes.
Geto.S: guess that means she has better taste than I thought
A flurry of rushed texts blew up his phone - worth it.
Nov. 28, 2006
' ' i thought i had you figured out ' '
A text had woken him up in the morning. Suguru was expecting it to be Satoru, sending him photos of his lastest mission away from Tokyo, but no, it was ______.
____._: sorry to bother you so early in the morning, but do you know what sweets are satoru's favorites and his favorite flavored cake???
____._: he never says he just eats anything sweet
That certainly sounded like Satoru.
Suguru yawned as he typed out:
Geto.S: He's a glutton
Geto.S: I'm sure anything will be fine but he does prefer kikufuku as for the cake - angel cake seems to be the best option
He rubbed his eyes and slid his phone closed, he needed to change into his uniform - wait... no, he needed to shower first.
His phone buzzed in his night stand. He gave it a quick look over, before he ridded himself of his clothes and hopped in the shower:
____._: thank you!!!! I owe you big time :D
____._: you like soba right?? My treat!
Suguru was glad, she felt like she could rely on him. He wanted to be relied on, if she relied on him, the easier it was to keep her safe from anything that tried to grab her in the darkness.
There had been too many close calls and it all reminded him of - No, she was not Riko. Suguru would not make the same mistakes.
When he got out of the shower and changed, he texted her back.
Geto.S: We can go shopping together
Geto.S: Are you free at 4:15?
Thirty minutes later she texted back:
____._: yep, where do you wanna meet?
Geto.S: I'll meet you at your school
Geto.S: We'll leave from there
____._: See you then :D
Suguru was right on time waiting outside of her school gates. He kept his eyes trained on curses energy residuals, and the curse dwelling on at the school - none of them were powerful, none of them posed a real threat to anyone.
Good, he could rest easy for now.
A bag slung around her shoulder, she enthusiastically waved at him as she ran up to him with a bright smile quirking her lips up, "Geto!"
Suguru's smile was as it always was soft, but this time he wasn't tip-toeing around her, afraid he would scare her away.
They were friends.
Of course, he kept things from her like the curses that tried to hurt her, but so did Satoru, but he supposed, Satoru didn't need to - nothing dared to touch her while he was around her. She couldn't even see them, so Suguru didn't feel the need to worry her about it, especially when he would protect her from it. She was already worried about Satoru as it was, no point in adding something else on to the list.
She chewed on her lip, "His mission isn't too dangerous is it?"
Suguru placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, "No, he will be back in two days tops."
Still, she closed her eyes to check on him. He didn't blame her if he had felt Satoru die, he would check on him all the time.
She quickly blushed in embarrassment when she realized Suguru was watching, "I'm not a stalker -"
Suguru laughed.
Her cheeks burned into darker and brighter shade of red, "Don't laugh at me! I'm just -"
"Worried?" He chuckled out, "Come on, worry wart. If I remember correctly you owe me a soba."
Today, a curse user tried to sneak up behind her. To take her or kill her, Suguru didn't know. Not that it mattered, he pummeled him into a bloody pulp and called a window to take him back to jujutsu tech where he would wait trial by the higher ups.
Execution, no doubt. Suguru didn't care that's what the curse user gets for trying to pick on the weak, and on his best friend's soulmate no less. If anything, Suguru considered him lucky - it would've gone worse for him if Satoru had been the one to catch him. Forget about being beatened to a bloody pulp, imagine getting erased with a shot of hollow purple? Very lucky.
"Geto," she called out to him as she showed him a shirt, "what about this one?"
Suguru pocketed his bruised knuckles, "Yeah, he'll like that one."
She cheerfully skipped to the cash register and waited for the man to ring her up.
Suguru's eyes narrowed at the man, he seemed normal, but something was bothering him. Suguru was behind her in a few quick steps, his face seemingly expressionless when he took the bag from the clerks hand, before she could even raise her hand to grab it for herself.
The clerk waved them off as both teenagers said thank you, but Suguru lagged slightly behind her with his hand on the small of her back, keeping his senses trained on the clerk until they were at a safe distance, but then he saw a woman standing ominously a little ways away from them. A glance behind him and he saw the store clerk - shit. This was fine, nothing he couldn't handle, but his friend would no longer be blissfully ignorant about the dangers that were lurking around her.
"Yo!"
Suguru's shoulders visibly relaxed. The grip on her waist loosened as he waved at Gojo Satoru. The girl's smile widened into something more joyful as she wrapped her arms around Satoru's torso, pulling him into a warm hug.
Satoru rested his head on top of hers as he always did now and only kept one arm around her, but still hugged her close to his chest.
"You're back early," Suguru raised his fist and Satoru fist bumped him in greeting.
Satoru grinned, "It was easy peasy."
She peered her head up from his chest with the warmest smile, "So you're not hurt?"
"Nah," Satoru placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, "nothing can touch me."
But Suguru was the flicker in his best friend's eyes, not much concern for himself, but for her, and Suguru knew why Satoru had come back early and why he had no doubt finished his mission as quickly as possible; Satoru had seen the store clerk for what he truly was through her eyes.
Suguru remembered the time, he had asked Satoru, if closing his eyes would leave him vulnerable. Satoru had smirked and smugly said:
"Nope, my six eyes work just fine. It just takes a little more focus."
Satoru's smugness was all Suguru needed to know that it took no effort at all to do what he does when he looks through her eyes, especially when he does it constantly.
Suguru casted his gaze back in front of him, the woman was gone and he could no longer sense the store clerk.
Of course, they were gone. One thing was fighting Geto Suguru, it was another fighting Gojo Satoru.
She tip-toed and kissed Satoru's cheek.
Suguru smirked, "I thought you two weren't dating?"
She turned pink, "We're not."
"Yet," Satoru added with a smug smile.
After they dropped her off home and Satoru begrudgingly let her go, (Suguru didn't know why he was pouting so much seeing as he was most likely going to see her tonight) Satoru pout widened into a grin.
"I have a plan."
Suguru let out a hearty laugh when he explained what his plan was - Operation: Love Quest.
Oh, he couldn't wait to tell Shoko.
Feb. 12, 2007
' ' i have known it all this time ' '
Valentine's Day was approaching and Suguru was now a victim of Satoru's incessant shopping sprees. Nothing was too much for his soulmate, he needed to get her everything.
Flowers (she liked pink peonies the most, Suguru learned recently), chocolates, sweets, dresses, jewelry, more sweets, and god knew what else.
"You've gotten her enough," Suguru yawned sleepily, "don't you think?"
Satoru was looking at a simple princess cut diamond ring, scratching his head.
Suguru playfully shoved him, "And it's a little too soon for an engagement ring."
Satoru tilted his head toward him with a frown and was slightly offended, "I would never get her a 0.10 carat diamond for an engagement ring," he grumbled, "It's far too small."
Suguru leaned against the glass counter, "I get this is your Valentine's with her, but you're over doing it just get her something you know she'll like."
"What type of girl doesn't like diamonds?"
"The type that'll feel bad when you get her a mountain of presents, when she only got you like three." Suguru said, "Not everyone has generational wealth to sustain them."
Satoru's pointed look softened as he smiled widely, "She got me three?"
Shit, Suguru wasn't supposed to tell him, "Yes, and I'm not telling you more."
"That must mean she really likes me, huh," Satoru's eyes glittered brighter than any precious stone in the store, "as the best boyfriend ever I have to at least get her twice as that."
"You already have." Suguru sighed, "Triple, I'd say."
Satoru ignored him, "Yo, sir! Sir! Sir!" He tapped the glass annoyingly, "That one!"
The jeweler smiled, "What size?"
"Shit, I don't know her ring size."
Satoru turned Suguru and before he could say anything, Suguru had slid his phone open and called her.
She answered at the second ring, "What's up?"
"You free right now?"
"Yeah."
Satoru started whispering, "Don't tell her to meet you here."
Suguru pushed his face away from his and gave her a meeting time.
The jeweler gave him a ring size measurer and with that Suguru left to meet her.
When she wasn't looking he would look at her fingers and take out the measure trying to gauge which size it was after careful deliberation, be concluded a size 5.
After an hour or so, she had to leave - something about an essay and homework she had to work on before Valentine's Day.
Suguru sent one of his curses with her to make sure she got home safe.
Satoru berated him when he got back, "What size?"
"Five," Suguru handed the measure back to the jeweler.
"That one," Satoru grinned out and then dragged Suguru to another shop.
It was going to be a long day of shopping again.
Apr. 4, 2007
' ' oh, holding my breath ' '
Shoko had stolen ______ for the day, claiming she needed a break from Satoru.
"You're beyond clingy," Shoko said, "Don't want her breaking up with you because you never gave her space right?"
Satoru's eyes widened, "Did she tell you that?"
Shoko being Shoko, said, "Maybe."
So there Satoru was fighting the urge to call or text his soulmate.
"Shoko was lying, right?" He asked Suguru, "Ain't no way, she wants to break up with me, right?"
Suguru drank his hot tea, "I'm sure she was just joking."
Or maybe she wasn't, but Suguru didn't want to tell Satoru what ______ had told him in private.
It wasn't that she didn't like him anymore, it was the incessant thoughts in her mind. Thoughts she couldn't push away any longer and as much as she cared for Satoru, he would never understand. Suguru would do though, he always understood.
She had been nervous at first, texting him to meet with him privately at a cafe without Satoru knowing, he was out on a mission anyway, he was focusing his six eyes on finding the curse, instead of closing his eyes to see where she was, but in the end, she faced up, after Suguru coaxed it out of her with soft smiles and a promise not to laugh.
"You have to promise again, not to laugh," She said.
He wanted to laugh now, but he knew she would shut down if he did, "I promised already."
"Again."
"Alright," pressed his lips together to keep himself from chuckling, "I promise, will you tell me now?"
She wondered a lot about how she should phrase it. Worthy? Good enough? Holding him back? Which word encapsulated what she felt when she saw a curse through Satoru's eyes, but could never see them on her own.
Worthless was the word she was looking for, she realized that a few weeks ago.
She bit the inside of her cheek, Suguru would for sure tell Satoru, if she started the conversation like this, so instead, she said, "It's not a problem, is it that I'm not a sorcerer," she played with the straw in her drink, "or that I can't see curses - I mean -"
Suguru stopped her before she could get in any farther, "Satoru was an idiot when he said that." Suguru smiled in the way that made everyone feel accepted, "He never meant any of that."
Yes, he did. At the time they both knew that he did, but she didn't say anything.
"Things are different now," Suguru scooted his chair closer to hers, "Satoru cares about you a lot, I know he does." He placed a comforting hand on her shoulder and rubbed soothing circles on her, "He'd throttle even me if it meant to keep you safe."
And Suguru was proud of him. His best friend was finally turning into the person he knew he could become - he was still annoying and arrogant, but he was no longer cruel and dismissive of others.
She let out a laugh, "I don't think he would go that far."
"I do," Suguru said firmly. "A lot of people can't see curses or jujutsu, it's not something to be ashamed of and Satoru has enough cursed energy and strength for the both of you."
She shook her head, "And when he's not here?" She looked at Suguru, "What then? I'm not stupid, you know, I may not be able to see curses, but I know whenever Satoru shows up randomly or when you show up to walk me all the way home - It's for a reason." She crossed her arms, "Shoko does it too, but she has a better poker face."
Suguru should've known that she knew. It had been months, it would've been odd if she hadn't noticed their overprotectiveness from even Shoko.
"You're our friend, ______," Suguru said, "we just want to make sure you're safe."
"I know. It's just -" She let out a long breath.
"Frustrating?"
She nodded, and then a bashful look, "Promise, you won't tell Satoru?"
Suguru smiled again, "I promise, but I do think you should talk about it with him." He drank some of his tea, "I'm sure he'll listen if it's coming from you."
But until then, Suguru was there to listen. Sometimes all someone needed was a friend.
Satoru's voice brought him back to the present, "She hasn't said anything to you right?"
Suguru rolled his eyes at him, "She's not going to break up with you."
"Did she tell you that?"
"Satoru," Suguru warned, "she's probably just stressed. Exams are coming up, aren't they?"
Satoru nodded, "Yeah..." He pulled out his phone from pocket and flipped it open as a smile graced his lips, "I'll help her study after she's done hanging out with that traitor that should relieve some of her stress."
Suguru doubted that would help since exams weren't what was plaguing her mind, but other more complicated things. If it got too far, he would tell Satoru. He might get punched in the face or a reversal Red shot at him, but it would be for the best.
Jul. 24, 2007
' ' something keeps me holding on to nothing ' '
Satoru had punched him in the face when Suguru told him. All this time Suguru knew why she was acting weird, he had known for months and he hadn't told him. It would've been different if she had told Shoko and Shoko didn't tell him, but Suguru? Suguru who was always supposed to have his back - it was betrayal.
Satoru put up two fingers and almost chanted: Curse Technique Reversal: Red, but stopped himself.
"Is she still talking to you about it?" He gritted out.
"No," Suguru rubbed his swollen cheek, "she wanted to tell you herself, but I think she's scared to bring it up."
Scared? Why would she be scared of bringing something like this up to Satoru? He was her boyfriend, her soulmate - she shouldn't have, had to feel scared to tell him anything. He would have listened, he promised to himself that night when he was all bloody that he would.
"I promised I wouldn't say anything," Suguru said, "but you two do need to talk about it."
Satoru ran his hand through his soft white hair and closed his eyes. He frowned when he saw her writing an essay down on a piece of paper - she was home.
Suguru spoke up again, "Do you want to hit me again?"
Satoru sighed and opened his eyes to look at his best friend, "No," he fixed his glasses, "just don't keep something that important from me again."
Satoru warped away, no doubt to talk to his soulmate. Suguru only hoped he had told him in time, before more damage could be done for his friends.
It was night when Yaga had knocked on Suguru's door.
"Where's Satoru?" Yaga gruffed out, "He hasn't been here all day."
Suguru always covered for him and he wasn't going to stop now, "He went for some sweets, you know how he gets."
Yaga shook his head, not believing a word that came out of Suguru's mouth, but he left anyway.
Suguru looked at his phone and thought about calling Satoru, but shook his head. He probably wasn't coming back til later, so Suguru fell asleep instead.
He woke up at noon with a grinning Satoru at the foot of his bed instead.
Suguru blinked as he assessed him, at least he didn't look heartbroken, instead overjoyed and a little smug. Satoru's snowy white hair was a mess as if someone had raked their hands through it roughly, his glasses were askew, and his lips were swollen and smudged with pink lip gloss smearing across cheek to his neck as his neck had deep red and purple marks that shaped into a heart, and his clothes looked a mess.
Suguru chuckled, "I take it things went well?"
"She said she loves me," Satoru squeaked out in glee.
Suguru pulled his long black hair back, "And?"
Satoru's grin had softened, yet it stayed plastered on his face, "I said I love her too."
Suguru pointed at hickeys that shaped into a heart, "That's all?"
"We had sex," then, Satoru playfully shook his head and sang lowly, "No, we made love."
Suguru almost vomited at that, "Go take a shower lover boy."
Satoru walked backwards as he skipped happily into his dorm room and yelled, "I am a lover boy!"
Sept. 2007
' ' come on, don't leave me like this ' '
She had just finished mopping the bakery's floor when Suguru came in, his long hair was down with only a small bun tying some of the more unruly parts of his hair.
She waved at him, "What's up, Geto?"
His smile wavered when he saw her like this was the first time he had seen her.
"Is something wrong, Geto?"
"Yes actually," Suguru frowned, "I want to talk to you."
She dropped the mop in the bucket and wiped her hands on her apron, "What is it? What happened?"
Maybe, she should text Satoru - No, he was there for her a couple of months ago, she should be here for him now.
"I think you were right before," Suguru pocketed his hands, "about it being a problem - you not being a sorcerer."
"What are you saying?"
Suguru ignored her, "I think you weren't saying the right words before," his eyes told and black, "instead of a problem, I think you meant a pest, a worthless one."
Her eyes widened, "Geto -"
Suguru's eyes hardened into a glare, "Don't interrupt me," he paused for a second like he was about to add something else, but stopped himself, before continuing, "all this time you were worrying that you were holding Satoru back, you were right."
Tears welled in her eyes, "I told you all of that in confidence." She flinched back when Suguru took a step toward her, "You're my friend."
"I was never really your friend," Suguru spat out, "I realized that I only ever really tolerated you for Satoru."
"Stop," she whispered putting her hands up as if she could stop his words from reaching her, "just stop it. Satoru and I talked about this already - he loves me."
She blinked her tears away. If this is how Suguru truly felt, then he wasn't allowed to see her vulnerable, only Satoru and people she trusted were allowed to.
Suguru stalked up to her, until she was backed up against a wall. She quickly flinched to the side when Suguru's hand shot up to the empty space behind her and for a second, she heard something squirming and writhing in his hand.
Suguru gave her one last cold look before purple blood splattered on the walls, "This is the last time I save you, ______."
' ' i can't turn back now, i'm haunted ' '

Tumblr media
You knew Chuuya put up a front. He’d puff out his chest in the midst of enemies when he was with you in public and sneer at them if they made the wrong move, threatening to pull his gun on them. You watched him as his ego soared outside, at the bar with his Mafia members, yours boosting as well when it came to the night. Because you knew who he really was, seen that vulnerable side of him; behind closed doors, that man was begging on his knees in the middle of the room like the whore that he was.
When he wasn’t out shielding his face with a stereotypical mask, he was stuck underneath your heel, nearly kissing the floor as you demanded the most of him. He worshipped you like a goddess, as if the straps of Greek mythology held you hostage and brought you to him. A deity of some sort, higher than the clouds that held Mount Olympus, he begged for his Aphrodite. Begged for her– you to touch him, his cock dripping against the fluffy carpet it hovered over.
He’d whine as you stood over him, harshly pushing his face and his greedy tongue into the swell of your cunt. He’d lap up your wetness eagerly, the mess of it sticking to his face and damn near almost drowns in it. And while he’s doing that, he’d whimper into you, ‘please and thank yous’ with ‘fuck, mommy’ barely coming out as you grinded against his mouth. By the end of it, you would be cumming in waves on his face and a new carpet would be the first thing on your mind because Chuuya had busted all over it halfway through eating you out.
And some days, your boy would call his own mama, his voice cracking a few times as you worked your pink tongue around his thick cock. The hand that wasn’t preoccupied with his phone would fly to your hair as you swallowed around him, saliva dribbling from the corners of your mouth and down his cock. Chuuya would babble on and on about nonsense, barely able to concentrate when you were sucking the soul out of him. He'd lose his train of thought, his sentence trailing off, and you’d listen to his mother scold him over the phone for losing his place in his over-elaborated story.
He’d have to call her back though to apologize as he’d hang up without so much as a goodbye teetering from his lips, his entire mind foggy from the pleasure you instilled in him. Whines would leak from his mouth in hushed intervals, ‘fuck, right there, please, keep going…’ and he’d push your head down further, making you choke and gag on his cock, thrusting up into the tight heat of your mouth. Chuuya isn’t particularly forceful, he could never do that to you, to his mommy, and he’d shoot his load down your throat, right then and there as he thought about what you could do to him when he eventually scolded you about the phone call bit. But he wouldn’t be mean about it, of course.
He was a mama’s boy, through and through.

KAYLORS I JUST DECIPHERED THE PR MESSAGES FROM PRESENT 🎁 ANON AND AM NOW VERY CERTAIN THEY’RE LEGIT TOO. So we started receiving these very interesting anon messages exactly 2 months before the release of TTPD (release was 4/19)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We were told to keep our eyes peeled for a present or gift we would be receiving and well we got it
There are P's and R's repeated in the messages. "The hint is in the words." P = PETER. R = ROBIN. Those songs are a gift to us kaylors. They're separated by just one song, the Bolter (which I'm 99% sure is related to the 8th 🎃 message bc Taylor almost drowns and a bolter is a coward which was the main point of the message); and Taylor mentions CPR in So Long, London which means they're all related. Bc Cassandra = Taylor, Peter = her second kid, Robin, = her first kid. They're related bc they're a family. I think it's possible those are the actual names of her two kids
Tumblr media
"This is not the manuscript" i.e. the manuscript (closing track) is not the gift, it's the songs right before it! Robin is the 2nd to last song, Peter the 4th to last, and Cassandra the 5th to last. "It has been hidden well, look where the above may find you." They can be found in the track titles themselves. "Plausible deniability. Think of the one we continue to revisit"--K and T have plausible deniability since everyone thinks those are JK's kids. BUT "the volcano will soon rupture, whoever is to defame" which means that one day all the truth will come spilling out regardless of the defamation that will happen. "Restful, reticent, restraint. And PUBLISH!"--perhaps a tell-all memoir??
Tumblr media
"The predecessor was the crumb" in other words peace "I'd give you my wild, give you a child" (see this post) was just a faint hint but now she's getting really close to revealing everything which is what the volcano 🌋 represents! THE DANDELIONS IN THE ROBIN LYRIC VID. Robin is the single dandelion floret (secret) she was so worried abt sending into someone else’s yard in the 7th 🎃 message (see this post). She was afraid that sending this song out into the world could expose the truth she’s worked so hard to protect before she’s ready but she did it anyway. “Once you blow a dandelion, you never get it back. It isn’t yours anymore.” “But the story isn’t mine anymore.” 🎃 mentions how the recipient of the dandelion would also blow and spread the florets which might mean kaylors would catch on and spread the secret. The 8th message also mentions a dandelion that the enemy has and spreads but I’m not yet sure who this person is—also this person could be the “recipient” and not kaylors but I’m not sure. And I’m not sure if this means they’d like us to kinda keep this to ourselves and not use Robin as a gotcha since it’s meant to be more of a seed planted for future use (no pun intended). But it definitely seems like they aren’t ready to reveal everything just yet
Tumblr media
"As the neighbor holds the lamp to witness her Goodbye" = "Now you're in my backyard turned into good neighbors" and "But the woman who sits by the window has turned out the light"
"Reach those lanterns a little bit higher for you shall receive a metaphor so dire"--a jack-o-lantern like pumpkin anon? These metaphorical messages will help us to understand K and T's entire complicated situation?
"When I cannot see words curling like rings of smoke round me"--"breath of fresh air through smoke rings." Haven't quite figured out what this part means yet but it reminds me of blowing smoke which means to deliberately confuse or deceive (lavender haze mv)
This is as far as I've gotten w decoding the messages. This all adds a lot of context to those 🎃 messages and makes them a little more clear. There’s definitely more clues in there we have yet to decipher so pls share your thoughts

✦✧✸✧✦ 18+ MINORS DO NOT INTERACT ✦✧✸✧✦
Chapter 5: Regret
I’m alone with my thoughts, trying to stop the embarrassment from consuming me. I look out the windows before peeking down the hallway—no sign of Satoru anywhere. I realize I’m searching for someone who doesn’t want to be seen.
The intimacy I shared with Sugu—I mean, Satoru, has me conflicted. My mind thinks one thing, but my body feels the other, ultimately bringing me right back where I started. But this time around, my thoughts are coherent enough to take over.
If there’s anyone who would leave without saying goodbye, it’s Satoru. If there’s anyone who would be an absolute tease, it’s Satoru. If there’s anyone who would fuck now and not give a shit later, it’s Satoru. After all this time we spent together, I thought things would change. But now it’s crystal clear: Satoru Gojo will never change.
“Satoru is so annoying,” Shoko grumbled as she barged into my room.
“What’d he do this time?” I asked. With graduation around the corner, all I could think about was passing my exams.
“I asked him out, but he shot me down. He told me it’s because he likes someone else,” Shoko revealed.
To keep our conversation short, I replied with, “Yeah that sucks I guess, but I’m sure you’re better off just being friends.”
Shoko plopped herself onto my bed, lacing her fingers behind her head while she stared at the ceiling. “Honestly, that’s totally fine—but that’s not the annoying part,” she started. “The annoying part is that he won’t tell me who. He talks about all the girls he hooks up with, but now he wants to keep it a secret? I just don’t get Satoru.”
I let out a sigh, “Maybe he’s just messing with you the same way he does with me. After all, Satoru is such a dick.”
✦✧✸✧✦
I spend the evening doing chores in hopes of forgetting what happened earlier this afternoon. If Satoru is going to be like this, the best thing I can do is to leave the past in the past. With my mentorship being over, I have no reason to even think about him anymore. All I need to do now is stick to the plan and keep my energy focused on Suguru.
Oh, right. Suguru. As the image of him forms in my mind, I’m reminded of our date. I’ve been so caught up with Satoru, I realized that I’m nowhere near prepared for tomorrow.
He said to meet at his place, but are we staying there? Or just meeting, then going out? Should I dress up? Or down? Heels, boots, or sneakers? My internal debate goes on for far too long before I finally decide to give him a call.
The phone rings and I’m greeted with his signature velvety tone. “Did you miss the sound of my voice?” Suguru asks.
I’m immediately paralyzed, unsure of how to reply.
He lets out a little chuckle, “I’m just kidding. What’s up?”
“Ha. ha. Very funny.” I begin to ease up but butterflies still linger in my core. “I actually just wanted to ask what we’re doing tomorrow. I’m trying to figure out what to wear.”
Suguru pauses for a moment, “I don’t want to give away all the surprises, but let’s keep it simple and say dinner. I can’t tell you where, but just wear whatever makes you feel good.”
A surprise? My body tenses in excitement. “Okay, fine. I can work with this. Thank you! I’ll talk to you later!”
“No problem, see you tomorrow,” He replies.
Before I can hang up, Suguru calls for me one last time. When he gets my attention, he finally says, “I’m really excited for our date. I can’t wait to see you.”
“Me too.” I hang up the phone, and I can’t seem to wipe the grin off my face. I’m finally going on a real date with Suguru.
✦✧✸✧✦
The next day arrives and at 7pm, I find myself standing in front of Suguru’s door. I’m fixing the dress that I picked out the night before. It’s a black velvet mini dress with sheer cuffed sleeves. The sweetheart neck accentuates my chest, while the fitted flare skirt hugs my curves—the perfect blend of cozy, but classy. My nerves increase after the first knock, but it washes away when the door opens and I see Suguru’s face.
Although the door is only halfway open, his physical presence still commands the space. His smile is pure and his eyes gaze at me with sincerity. “Please come in,” he says.
When I walk inside to take off my shoes, he closes the door and his footsteps echo towards me. I feel his hand cup the small of my back and a shock jolts through my body. His fingers brush against the zipper of my dress. As he slowly leans down to my ear, he whispers, “You look beautiful tonight.” The hairs on the back of my neck stand up and my heart begins to melt.
“Aww, thank you. You’re looking quite handsome yourself,” I reply, smiling in adoration.
I take a moment to look around the apartment and my eyes widen. Flower petals line the hallway floor, leading me to the living space. The space is larger than I would expect for a Tokyo apartment. Across the room, windows stretch from the floor to the ceiling, making it feel ten times bigger. The lighting is soft, but the glow from the lamps warm up the space.
My eyes continue to wander until they finally land on his dining room table. Though the table is set for two, it’s completely filled with several plates of food. I see perfectly formed pieces of nigiri, various bowls of soup, an array of grilled fish and meats, and bowls of rice neatly placed on the side.
“Oh my god, Suguru…did you make all of this?” I ask in disbelief.
He nods, curling his mouth into a smile.
“Do you do this for all your dates?” I challenge, raising my brow.
“Nope, just for you.” He makes his way towards the table. “Since you recently moved back, I wanted to make it feel like home.”
I can feel my jaw drop. I try to speak but nothing comes out. “I—I don’t even know where to start,” I finally reply.
He pulls out a seat and offers his hand to me, “You can start by eating.”
It takes everything I have to resist eating everything in one bite, but the taste is so delicious. Each bite is a burst of flavor that sends me to the moon. Even if our date ended here, I would easily be satisfied. When we finish up our meal, I help him pack the leftovers and clean up.
As we’re washing dishes together, I turn to him. “Suguru, thank you for cooking. You’ve always taken such good care of me. I really don’t deserve you.”
He pauses to turn off the water and wipe his hands. I watch him move towards me to cradle my face while his fingers trace the edge of my jawline. “I told you once before and I’ll tell you again, I like taking care of you. Always have, always will.”
We gaze into each other’s eyes, and for a moment, time stands completely still. I gently place my hands on his chest. His heart beats fast, like it’s trying to challenge my own. Is he just as nervous as I am? As I slowly grasp the wrinkles of his shirt, his pulse quickens and his breath becomes shallow. When I see his smile begin to form, I close my eyes and pull him down to meet my lips.
Suguru’s mouth molds into mine and it’s everything I could’ve ever imagined. I love how his lips are soft and his grasp is warm, nothing in this world can compare. As he guides me to the sink, my back arches and I can feel myself getting engulfed into his body. It’s covering me with comfort and protection. I’ve imagined this moment many times and it’s absolute perfectio—he pulls away.
Suguru walks towards the dining room and he mutters something with his head in his hands.
I follow him, tugging at his sleeve. “Hey, is everything okay? Did I do something wrong?”
He finds his way to the couch muttering, “No, no. It’s not you.” After a moment of thought, he continues, ”Sorry, I just thought I could do this but I’m scared of what might happen to us. I don’t want to hurt you, and I definitely don’t want to lose you again.”
I take a seat next to him, placing one hand on his shoulder, and the other over his knee. “Hurt me? Lose me? Again? Suguru, what are you talking about?”
He brushes my arm, hesitant for what comes next. The room is quiet and I can almost hear his heartbeat with mine. “During your last summer here,” he starts. He takes in a breath and slowly lets his words tumble out. “I was talking to Satoru for you—basically telling him to lighten up on the jokes and all that. He seemed to  take it well, but I remember him saying, ‘Fine. But she’s leaving soon anyways so it doesn’t really matter.’ I wasn’t sure what he meant at first, but he ended up telling me that he overheard you talking to Shoko… about moving away.”
My heart drops as memories of that day slowly piece back together…
“Are you really going to leave?” Shoko asked.
I gave an apologetic nod. “It’ll be good for me to get out there, you know? I’d travel the world, learn from other teachers, see if there are bigger and better things out there for me.” I let out a sigh. “I feel like there’s not much here for me anymore.”
“I get it. Well, just know that I’ll miss you. I’m sure the guys will too,” Shoko said as she gave me a hug.
I laughed, “Doubt it.”
I return to the moment and look at Suguru. When he sees tears forming in my eyes, he wipes them away. His hand tightens around mine before he says, “I didn’t think that was true until you told me yourself. It hurt me so much inside but, who was I to stop you from finding yourself or seeing the world? You deserved to do all the things you wanted to do.”
But all I wanted was you. Are you saying you wanted me too? Droplets trickle down my face, but I keep my eyes locked onto his—taking in every single word.
“After you left, I was a mess. I stopped training, so my cursed energy weakened. Then during one of our missions, I fucked up and part of my soul merge with a cursed spirit. When it took over my body, it was strong. It’s a long story, but the main point is— I’m scared to get too close. I don’t think it’s safe.”
I bring myself in closer, moving my hand to his face. “But Suguru, I always feel safe when I’m with you. It’s always been like that, even now…especially now.”
“Yeah, but that’s because I’ve trained myself to control it. When I lose my senses, it slips out, and when it slips out…it isn’t pretty—it just doesn’t feel like me. Even though I’m still the same person physically, everything else becomes more intense. The rage, the aggression, all the things in between.”
He pauses, placing his hand around my cheek. “I like you, a lot. But if I ever let anything happen to you…or worse, if I let myself do anything to hurt you, I don’t know what I would do.”
My heart is pounding, my mind goes blank. The world goes silent as his voice becomes an echo. Is this…real? I open my mouth to let my words out, but nothing. I eventually muster up the strength to ask a question, “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I was going to, but when you said that you didn’t have anything left here… well, I thought that also meant me. I never wanted to be the one to hold you back.” He retracts and his face becomes resigned.
Before he can pull away, I bring my face to his. “Suguru, I’ve liked you for a very long time. And I appreciate you for letting me live my life, but I promise you—I’m ready for this. For you. For all of you.”
His face softens and shows a smile of relief. “All I want to do is take care of you,” he starts. I can feel his hands tremble. “But I’m scared of the person I’ll become.”
“Suguru…” I lift myself up, slowly climbing over to straddle him. His frame is large, but I still feel myself fit comfortably around him. As I settle myself onto his lap, I feel his bulge pulse against my center. The tension in the air grows as I move myself closer. I let my mouth linger inches away from his and whisper. “I trust you.”
He stops momentarily, savoring every last word that fell from my mouth. His eyes ignite and I can feel fire coursing through his soul. In one second, I feel his breath and in the next, I feel his mouth. He plants a kiss onto my lips, letting his hands roam around me.
Unlike before, this kiss is searing with passion. One hand grabs my hair while the other grabs my ass, and he lays me on the couch until his body is covering me. He pulls away for just a moment before he growls, “Then let me feel you, beautiful.”
Chapter 6: Rough
Something in the room has changed, as though the air has warmed up around us. Traces of Suguru’s cursed energy illuminate the room, forming a blue haze that floats above us. I let out a breath of awe—everything in this moment feels like a dream.
My attention floats back to Suguru as his kisses effortlessly consume me. It’s like he knows all the spots that make me tremble. As he kisses his way down my neck, his hands move to the contours of my curves. When he gets to my chest, he uses his fingers to pull down the neckline of my dress. My heart beats out of me as I’m completely exposed.
He stares for a moment, slowly cupping his hand around my breast. His tongue works my nipple, while my hands grab his hair. The tie on his bun slips and I feel his locks gently fall. The Suguru I’ve known has always been proper—pristine, but the way he looks right now makes him absolutely primal.
As his lips are tugging on me, I feel his hand slip between my thighs. They’re large and overpowering, but they feel so soft as they dance against my skin. There’s no doubt in my mind that his touch is absolutely perfect. His tugs turn into nibbles and a surge of liquid gushes between my legs. As my back arches with pleasure, he pulls off my panties and gently caresses my folds. Suguru brings himself up to kiss me and purrs, “Baby girl, you are soaking wet.”
He continues to treat my breasts with care and I can feel him rub the edges of my slit. I relax myself back into the couch and let the rhythmic passes of his fingers take me—teasing me with every stroke.
“Please Suguru,” I breathe. My voice is needy, unsteady.
He picks up his head while the edge of his mouth curls to the side. Easing his fingers into me, he rumbles, “Anything for you, my love.”
His fingers barely enter me, but the sheer size of them is enough to make me whimper. The thoughts in my head no longer exist. It’s just me, him, and the rush of desire flowing through me. As he glides them back and forth I can feel my juices slip out. My walls contract and pleasure grows between my thighs.
He slides in nice and slow, feeling every inch of the warmth inside of me. The ridges of his fingers press against me, massaging every crevice he can find. Oh how I wish this would never stop.
“Do you like when I touch your pussy like this?” Suguru asks. His voice is sultry and slow.
I can’t find the words so all I do is nod.
He slows down to give me a kiss before his smirk grows into a full on smile. He slides down the couch until he’s near my entrance. “Spread your legs and I can make you feel so much better.”
Whenever he speaks, goosebumps travel across my skin.
He lowers his head and drags his tongue across my slit. It’s wet and warm, emulating the essence of the cream between my legs. His mouth moves all over my center and I can feel myself pulsate against him. He sucks me, licks me, completely consumes me, and all I can do is yell his name. I lock my fingers onto his hair every time he makes me moan.
“You taste so good.” The vibration of his words travel through my walls.
Just like his kisses, his mouth is rough and needy, wanting to taste every bit of me. He swallows every bit of liquid that oozes out and I can tell his mouth is drenched because of me.
As he continues devouring me with his tongue, I feel the length of his fingers tease my entrance. He slides them into me and my moans begin to amplify. My back arches further and the tension continues to build.
His tongue and his fingers move perfectly in sync, I can’t take it. It’s wet, sloppy, and the drumming around my clit leaves me enchanted. I can feel myself reaching my limit.
“Don’t stop,” I pant. My moans become louder and I can feel the tingles creep into my core. “I— I’m gonna come.”
His pace remains steady, but that doesn’t stop the pleasure from climbing. He doesn’t pick up his head to speak, but the way he drives into me lets me know he’s saying, “Come for me.”
The thought leaves me in absolute heat. I let out one last moan and I feel the orgasm flow through my body. Waves of ecstasy slam against every end of my body. For a moment, I stay still, taking deep breaths and feeling every tingle leave my body. The clouds of Suguru’s cursed energy are still floating around us and I remember that this time, it’s not actually a dream.
I keep my eyes locked on Suguru as he climbs off of the couch. His hair is disheveled and his shirt is wrinkled, but he still looks as handsome as ever. He offers his hand to pull me up, and greets me with a kiss. I feel him pull away, but he remains close and utters softly, “I’m not done with you yet, beautiful.”
He gently turns me around and starts to unzip my dress. As his fingers brush off the fabric on my shoulders he tells me, “I’m warning you now… I’ve done my best to remain steady, but if I start to slip I can’t promise that you’ll like who I become. Are you sure you still want to do this?”
My dress drops to the floor and his gaze roams my body.
I slowly lift up his shirt and pull him close. “It’s okay Suguru, I can take it.”
✦✧✸✧✦
Suguru grabs a fistful of my hair and pulls me into a fevered kiss. His body towers over me as I race to take off the rest of his clothes. When I make my way to his pants, I let my hand graze the length of his cock. He immediately hardens beneath me and the air takes another shift. The haze of blue swirls fade into red and his skin runs hot like fire.
I can barely pull down his slacks before he grabs my waist to pull me up against him. His skin is smooth, his chest is hard, and I can feel him brush against my center. When his strong grip takes a hold of my ass, I wrap my legs around him while he walks us to his room.
He sets me on the bed and guides me down until my back presses against his sheets. The lights are off, but the red fog illuminates the room—allowing me to make out the contours of his body.
He looms over me and begins to rub my clit. I hum in pleasure and roll my head back.
“You’ve barely even touched me and I’m already breaking,” he growls. He takes another look at my body and I can feel the hunger in his eyes. “You are god damn beautiful.”
Suguru uncovers his cock, and I can feel my eyes widen. He’s big. And I mean big. As he tugs against it, I feel my eyes locking onto him—he’s mesmerizing.
“Is something the matter, princess?” he smirks. His brow arches like it’s a challenge. “Like you said… you can take it.”
I do my best to bite back a smile as my heart continues to race. The haze grows brighter around us.
Suguru lowers himself onto the bed, guiding himself into me. He stretches me so wide, forcing me to moan—but I know it’s only the tip. He continues to ease himself inside and I can’t help but gasp for air.
Once my walls adjust to his size, he grips my thighs and picks up his tempo. I can feel his whole length beat against my cervix. I cry in pleasure as my back arches and my eyes begin to shut.
“Eyes on me, baby girl. The whole time.” My eyes shoot open and see a fiendish smile dance across his face. “Now show me how much of a slut you can be.”
He moves one hand up my body, stopping to stroke my nipple, before landing on the edge of my neck. His fingers gently press on the sides of my throat, leaving just enough passage for air to flow through. His touch is violent, his voice is stern, but all of it has me dripping in delight.
My mind goes numb, registering only the feelings of pleasure and pain. I knew he was large, but the magnitude of his cock leaves me speechless. I keep my gaze fixed on him as he drives inside me, making me cry out louder each time. All I can make out is, “Fuck, Suguru.”
“That’s my girl. Louder,” he growls. “Let me hear how much you need me.”
My moans begin to amplify, but that only makes his thrusts go deeper. I don’t know who this Suguru is, but he tames me like an animal and fucks me like a beast. Everything about this makes me crave him so much more. My thighs clench at the thought, making the juices leave my body. “Fuck—that feels…so—good.” My words are breathy and labored.
“Your pussy is so tight. Fitting for a little slut like you.” He releases briefly and forcefully flips me over. As he grabs a fistfull of my hair to pull me close to his face, I feel him whisper. “Let’s see how well you can take me from behind.”
He keeps his grip wrapped in my hair, and my head presses into his chest. I feel his power surge through me as he pushes his way back inside. My center is so wet, he makes driving into me seem effortless. When he rams into the front of my walls, I feel myself squeeze around him.
Suguru releases my hair, but he wastes no time. His fingers move to hook into my mouth, leaving every part of my body filled. His other hand remains painfully gripped around my waist. I struggle to catch my breath when his pressure doesn’t let up.
“You feel so good, baby girl. I could fuck you forever.” The vibration of his voice tickles the side of my throat. His pace is steady but his movements are rough and relentless.
Every beat has me screaming in desire.
Suguru lets his hands trail from my mouth to my center and uses the wetness on his fingers to rub my clit. I’m overwhelmed with pleasure as I feel my folds throb against him. With my mouth free, he plants hungry kisses onto my lips and I can feel my body wanting to release.
His hips continue to strike into me, causing tears to well into my eyes. They fall down my cheek, but his tongue slowly cleans it up before he returns his mouth back to mine.
The pressure inside grows and I feel my climax calling for me. He’s so good. All of him feels so good. I can’t stop thinking about the way he looks, the way he feels, how perfect he is inside of me. “Please don’t stop, I’m—gonna—” I can barely speak, let alone breathe. “Come.”
“As my little slut should. Don’t worry, I’ve got you.” His breath quickens and the way his body moves tells me he’s close too. “Do you want me to come inside of you?”
I moan with pleasure and that’s the only confirmation he needs.
Suguru roars in desire, but the volume of my cry rivals him. I feel him release inside of me as tides of my orgasm flow through my body. My ears are ringing and my fingers go numb.
His come feels hot as it shoots up through me. As his grip tenses around me, I can feel them leaving bruises on my skin. He catches his breath and slowly glides his way out of me. I can feel his liquid dripping down my thighs.
I let myself settle back down onto the bed, feeling the remnants of my orgasm drift away.
Suguru adjusts himself so that his mouth hovers inches away from my ear. “Thank you for gracing me with that perfect little pussy.” he whispers.
No, Suguru. Thank you.
Chapter 7: Relax
The morning comes and the sun beams brightly through the windows. I wake up and see Suguru’s arm wrapped around me. His embrace gives me comfort, and I never want to let go. As I adjust myself to see his face, I notice how the rays of sun bounce off his back. The light illuminates the outline of his silhouette—he is truly an angel.
I think back last night—how raw, powerful, and commanding he was. But as I look at him now, I see that there’s no sign of the animal he once was. His eyes are softly shut, his mouth is calm, and his hair is gently swept across his face. I brush back the strands that have fallen, and place a delicate kiss on his cheek. With one last look of admiration, I slowly inch my way out of the bed to grab a glass of water.
“No, don’t go,” he softly groans. He’s half asleep, but his grasp pulls me right back next to him. He caresses the contours of my naked body, and I’m reminded of how good it feels to have his hands around me.
I let out a little chuckle, “I’m getting water, I’ll be right back.” I give him another kiss and he surrenders. I hear him grumble but he doesn’t fight back as I wiggle my way out of the bed.
I make my way through the living room, and back to the kitchen. Sunlight pours through the windows, unveiling the aftermath of our night. Our clothes are everywhere, the furniture is skewed, and the pillows from the couch have been dumped on the floor.
As I pick up the mess, I hear the door unlock and my heart immediately drops into my stomach. Fuck. I’m completely bare. Running back to the room would take too much time, so I race to put on the shirt that Suguru wore the night before. Who the hell is even at the…oh, it’s Satoru. I forgot they were roommates.
When I realize it’s Satoru, I feel my heart stop and a powerful rage fills me. I’m reminded of the anger, the horror, and the embarrassment I felt Friday afternoon. I thought I could look past it, but I let my emotions consume me.
As the door closes, I hear a vexing voice drifting my way. “Looks like someone had a little fun last night.”
I march up to him as the hems of Suguru's shirt brush against my knees. “What the hell is your problem, Satoru?”
He continues setting down his belongings. “For someone who looks like they had great sex, you seem a little feisty.” His tone is mellow, his grin is smug. It’s everything I hate about him.
All I want to do is scream, but with Suguru asleep, my voice remains hushed. “One—yes, I did have great sex, thank you for noticing. But two—I’m furious with you. What happened on Friday? You literally just left me there.  And three—What is your problem? What kind of sick person does that?”
Satoru leans himself against the table. “Listen, angel. I did you a favor.”
I rush in front of him to block the noise from traveling too far. “Keep it down,” I snap at him.
Satoru picks himself up and takes a step towards me. His face hovers over me and I can feel my heart shudder. Our gaze latches onto each other as he softly whispers in my ear. “You seemed like you were enjoying yourself there, and trust me… while I would’ve loved to go further, I couldn’t take that away from Suguru.”
My arms cross and my stare remains unwavering. I scoff in his face. “You are so annoying. What makes you think I would ever let you have sex with me?”
“You wouldn’t?” He fires back quickly.
My jaw drops. I want to shoot back, but I’m at a complete loss for words. The hesitation is enough for his look to become even more self-assured.
He steps a bit closer and the heat from his body warms the air. “I’m just kidding angel. Although, I’m sure Suguru wouldn’t mind sharing.”
I push him back with enough force for him to bump the table. “Satoru!”
He makes his way around me and charges straight for the rooms. “You know what? We can just ask him about that right now. Hey Su—”
“Satoru, shut up!” I try to pull him back but his force is too strong.
A raspy voice emerges. “Good morning,” Suguru appears from the hallway leading to the room. He looks at us and breaks into a gentle laughter. “I guess some things never change with you two.”
He walks over to me, wrapping his hand around my waist to give me a kiss. “Nice shirt.”
My cheeks flush as I'm reminded that all I have on is Suguru’s oversized tee. I cling to him in embarrassment.
Satoru watches us move to the couch as he grabs a drink from the refrigerator. His brow perks up with interest. “This is new. Looks like you two had a fun night,” he calls from across the room.
I feel my eyes burn as I glare at him.
Suguru wraps his arm around me as a gesture of reassurance and I settle into his arms. “Satoru, relax. Don’t you have other women to fuck or bother? Leave mine alone.” He kisses me on the forehead and I look up at him with affection.
Satoru grabs his drink and strolls to his room. “Yes, your majesty,” he mocks Suguru lovingly. He turns to me with a sarcastic bow. “Sorry m’lady, please go about your day.”
I roll my eyes at him before directing my attention to Suguru. “How do you do that?” I ask curiously.
“Do what?” he replies.
“I don’t know, wrangle him? Satoru always listens to you.”
“I get him out of so many things, he basically owes me for life.”
“You’re always looking out for everyone, aren’t you?" I smile because this is the Suguru I know and love. Nothing about him could ever scare me away.
He turns to look at me like I’m the only person in the world. “But it’s only fun when I get to do it for you.”
✦✧✸✧✦
Our morning together is exactly what I hoped it would be. We spend a good bulk of our time preparing breakfast—grilling fish and whipping up tamagoyaki, just to scarf it down with a side of rice.
Unfortunately for me, Satoru joins us for the meal. However, I’m pleasantly surprised when he decides to keep the conversation tame. As much as I hate the guy, he’s not completely intolerable. We spend a few moments cracking jokes and I watch them playfully argue about who would win in a fight. As I look around the table, I smile. I’m overjoyed with the feelings of nostalgia that whip through my soul.
After we finish cleaning up our meal, Satoru heads back into his room while Suguru and I plop ourselves on the couch. He rests one elbow on the armrest, and the other around my shoulder. I snuggle myself into him and rest my head on his chest. He plants a kiss on my forehead and His eyes light up with his genuine smile.
I've shared many years of my life with Suguru, yet none of them have been quite like this. His cuddles comfort me, his kisses revive me, and his touch—well, his touch ignites me in ways I can’t describe.
“You know, I could stay like this forever,” I say to him.
“What do you mean?” His brow lifts.
“Being cuddled up against you. It’s the best feeling.” I smile because it’s true.
“I mean, don’t get me wrong, this is great,” he begins. “But I can think of a couple more things that might feel better.” He moves from the armrest, letting his fingers graze my chest and dance down my body. He lifts up the hem of my shirt.
A jolt of arousal runs through me when I feel the pads of his fingers rub against my panties.
“Suguru!” I playfully push him off with a smile.
He raises his brow and smirks. “What’s wrong? Don’t think you can handle another round?”
“Satoru is right there,” I murmured, carefully keeping my voice down.
Suguru adjusts himself to get a better angle of my lips and presses his mouth against mine. “He can fuck off. Let him see.”
My attention is immediately averted when I hear a passing voice coming from the bathroom.
“I’m right here,” Satoru calls out as he crosses the opening in the hallway.
Without breaking the kiss, Suguru lifts his hand from me, and I shift my eyes to see his middle finger raised at Satoru. I chuckle.
Satoru returns to his room and shuts the door. Once we’re back to being alone, Suguru returns my kisses and focuses his attention back to my folds.
The pleasure rises as I feel his lips part and he slips his tongue into my mouth. He hums against my lips as his fingers gently rub my clit. No matter how many times he touches me, I still feel a rush. My body gets lighter as it drifts away, in search of euphoria and I mutter curses under my breath. I wish this feeling would never stop. My thighs begin to clench as I feel liquid form between them. This is so—
Buzz. I hear his phone chime on the table. He silences it and stays fixated on me.
Buzz. He tries to ignore it, hoping it will pass.
Buzz. He hesitates. Now completely distracted, he momentarily breaks away. “I’m so sorry. Do you mind if I take this real quick?”
I nod, moving from him so he can get up to take the call. I can’t really make out the conversation, but judging from his tone, it doesn’t seem great.
He hangs up the phone and shoots me with an apologetic smile, “Yaga needs me to help with some curse clean up, but it shouldn’t take long. I promise. Do you mind if I step away for a little bit?”
My brow furrows. “Why doesn’t he ever call for Satoru’s help?”
“For what it’s worth, he does call him. But have you met Satoru?”
“Yeah you’re right.” I remember our conversation from earlier. I get him out of so many things, he basically owes me for life. Damn you, Satoru. You owe him—or rather me, big time. I let out a sigh as disappointment washes over me.
Suguru gives me a soft kiss, though he knows that isn’t enough to satisfy the arousal between my legs. “I’m so sorry. Feel free so stay if you want, make yourself feel at home,” he starts. “It’s 12 right now, so I’ll probably be back in an hour—two hours, max. I promise.”
As he gathers himself together, Satoru approaches from his room and appears in the hallway crossing. He rests his arm on the edge of the frame and directs himself to Suguru. “Hey, I heard some shuffling, are you going somewhere?”
My eyes widen as I notice Satoru’s body stretched along the wall. He’s only wearing a pair of sweats while his top is completely bare. The sun from the windows hits the contours of his muscles, making his skin glisten. His white hair rests gently on his face as he tilts his head in curiosity. The blue in his eyes are centered on Suguru but the color still pierces my vision from afar.
My gaze goes from the top of the frame and travels down the length of Satoru’s forearms. It reaches the subtle curves of his bicep and slowly creeps down to the lines of his chest and the ridges of his abs. His build is lean, and his body is defined. My eyes slowly roam as they follow the lines of the V-shaped trail that leads right down to—fuck. Stop.
What am I doing?
I snap out of it and return to find myself plugged in mid-conversation.
“...I can go if you want,” Satoru finishes.
Suguru continues to round up his things, but pauses to place an arm on Satoru’s shoulder and sighs. “I would love that, truly. But no offense, you’d probably get yourself into trouble. Yaga would just call me anyways to clean up your mess too.” He turns to me with a regretful look, pleading for forgiveness. “It’s just faster if I do it myself, I promise I’ll be quick.”
Satoru huffs as he rolls his eyes. “You’re right, but offense has still been taken.”
One more kiss and Suguru heads to the door. “Be a good mentor and take care of her while I’m gone. Try not to be an asshole.” His voice trails, but he stops momentarily to give me one last heartfelt smile. The door closes and my gut churns as I’m left staring at a shirtless Satoru.
Satoru lifts himself off of the frame and heads back to his room. Before the door shuts, he mockingly calls out, “Don’t worry angel, I’ll keep my hands to myself.”
I shake my head and let out an exasperated breath. Even when he’s being cordial, he still gets under my skin.
With Suguru gone, I’m unsure of what to do. My core still feels tight and there’s the lingering arousal between my legs. Satoru has locked himself in his room, so it feels like I have most of the apartment to myself. I use this as the perfect opportunity to draw myself a bath so I can finally relax.
✦✧✸✧✦
Stepping into the tub, the immediate warmth cocoons me. It reminds me of being wrapped in Suguru’s embrace. I take a few moments to unwind, feeling the comfort of the water against my skin. My head rests on the edge of the tub as I close my eyes and let my mind drift…
Slowly…
Slowly…
Drift…
My vision jumps to Suguru as he hums into my breasts and teases my folds. His touch is warm and playful, but it’s no surprise that I long for more. The image in my mind is clear, but the feeling falls short. I let my hands slip between my thighs and let the gentle pressure of my fingers fuel my fantasy.
The image shifts, and I envision how Suguru’s frame completely overpowers me. His shoulders are wide, his muscles are thick, and I let my eyes trail down his beautiful body. The contours of his abs feel like steel, but his skin is smooth as his hips rock against me. My gaze reaches his cock and it’s already trickling in arousal.
He teases me, gently sliding the tip across my slit. I bite my lip to hold back my whimper. When he sees how needy I am for him, he guides his length into me and I feel him expand my walls. I let myself mimic the motions with my hands and a rush of pleasure flows through me.
Suguru grinds his hips, thrusting everything he has into me until my pussy is completely filled. The rhythmic motion leaves me dizzy and I can feel my vision beginning to blur. The tension inside me boils as I imagine the friction of his cock massaging me. All of his ridges compliment my own and I can feel myself drip with desire.
Suguru’s presence invades my thoughts and a moan escapes my breath. As I feel myself pulsate against the pressure of my fingers, a devilish voice drifts through my head. Though I can’t make out the voice, the thought just fuels my fire.
“He would tell you you’re soaking wet,” I continue working my clit until I’m on the brink of pleasure. I squirm as the tingles of my orgasm begin to peek over the horizon.
“He would say you’re god damn beautiful,” The words make my core flutter and my center continues to throb. I’m close, so close. The image in my head flips.
“Does he make you feel good?” Yes. So good. A vision of Satoru pounding into me resonates through my body. I’m about to—
“Yes, angel. Come for—” Fuck.
My eyes immediately shoot open when I realize the narrator of my thoughts. No, no, no, no. That did not just happen. I feel like I just woke up from a mortifying nightmare. But…if it’s a nightmare, then why do I still feel myself quiver? Stop.
I grab my towel and I shake my head to wipe away the image. As I let the bath drain, I find myself deep in thought. Why the hell is Satoru in my head and how do I get him out? I press my fingertips against my temples. Please just leave.
I try to collect myself, but memories of Friday with Satoru flood my brain. I get flashbacks of his fingers pressing into me and I immediately feel weak. I remember his tongue on my center and it makes my heart skip a beat. Stop. In my haste, I bolt out the door and collide into a large figure.
I lift my head up to see Satoru standing before me. The warmth of his skin bounces off of me. “What the hell are you doing?” My voice is raised, but he doesn’t realize it’s because he invaded my thoughts.
Satoru furrows his brow with one hand holding a towel around his waist, and the other raised up in defense. “Whoa, can’t I take a bath in my own house?”
My pupils dilate when I realize our towels are the only thing in between our bodies. It takes every bit of willpower to not let my eyes linger below his waist. I decide to keep my head down and swiftly maneuver past him. “Oh, right. Fine, just go ahead.” I get to the front of Suguru’s door, and my hand hovers over the knob.
Before I can turn it, Satoru calls out to me. “By the way, I noticed you were a little loud in there.” I try to move, but my body stands still. ”Were those moans for me?”
I’m frozen in shock. I tilt my head to see if his gaze is darting towards me—it’s not. Instead, all I see is his towel drop, but the door shuts before I can see it hit the floor. Nice ass—Stop.
My cheeks flush, my heart races, and I’m pretty sure my entire soul has left my body. How do I leave every interaction with Satoru feeling absolutely mortified?
Chapter 8: Repeat
Were those moans for me? No. Yes—I mean kinda? So what if they were? Fucking hell, this cannot be happening right now. Stupid Satoru and his stupid charm.
As I struggle to push the thoughts aside, I check the clock and it’s 12:30 pm. It’s only been thirty minutes since Suguru left. That’s okay, I can just relax in his room and avoid Satoru for the next hour and a half. I let out a groan and try to figure out my next move.
I set the towel down and look at my options for clothing—Suguru’s shirt from last night, dirty. The dress that I wore here, dirty. My panties sitting on the floor, soaked… and dirty. With my options limited, I settle for a fresh t-shirt from Suguru’s dresser, hoping he won’t mind. Similar to the last one, this one barely grazes my knees—but it’s cozy nonetheless.
I spend some time mindlessly scrolling away on my phone, until my stomach starts to growl—I haven’t eaten since breakfast. I tiptoe my way to the door and press my ear against the wood to see if there’s any sign of Satoru in the common space. It seems quiet, so I think the coast is clear—but of course, it isn’t.
Satoru is sitting at the dining table with his headphones in. He looks like he’s intently watching something on his phone. His hair is a bit wet, and he still hasn't gotten around to putting on a shirt. Can’t blame him though, it is his apartment after all. After a moment, he notices that I’ve stepped out of Suguru’s room and pauses the video to talk to me.
“Oh hey, you’re alive! I thought you were either masturbating, napping, or dead so I didn’t want to disturb you.”
I give him a half smile, spotting an unfinished plate of food resting in front of him. It reminds me why I went out in the first place.
“You’re probably hungry. Here, I can warm up something for you.” Before I can protest, he’s already up to grab me a plate, some chopsticks, and containers from the refrigerator.
“Oh okay, thanks.” Satoru hasn’t teased me yet. In fact, he’s actually being nice? So far so good. I take a seat at the table and try to figure out what’s playing on his phone. “What are you watching?”
“It’s this movie about some mad scientist who turns—”
“People into worms,” I help finish off his sentence.
He smiles. “Yeah, Human Earthworm 4. You know it? One of my students keeps pestering me to watch it. It’s messed up, but I actually think it’s kinda funny.”
“Yeah, I knew I recognized it! I’ve seen this one before and it’s pretty good. Unlike the others, this one feels more like a romance.” I reply with a laugh.
After setting down my food, Satoru disconnects his headphones and moves his plate to the spot next to mine. He props his phone in between us and we spend the last 20 minutes of the movie eating our lunch, huddled closely together around his phone. His body heat radiates as our shoulders touch, sending a brief shock through me.
When we finish our meal, I wipe down the table while he washes the dishes in the sink. We laugh about the movie, share sentiments about the storyline, Satoru even comes up with theories on what Human Earthworm 5 would be like. In moments like this, I’m reminded of the times in our mentorship where we actually got along. This is nice—this Satoru is nice.
As I finish putting the last container back into the fridge, I hear him turn off the faucet. I turn around to see him dry his hands and lean on the edge of the counter. I can tell something in his demeanor has changed. His mouth opens to say something, but he decides to keep it shut.
“Is everything okay?”
He looks away, scratching the back of his head as if he’s nervous to speak. “So, you never answered my question.”
“What question?”
“Your bath. Your moans. Were they—”
I immediately cut him off while my eyes roll, and my shoulders drop. I was hoping he wouldn’t bring it up, but I should’ve known better. All Satoru wants to do in life is get under my skin. “I really don’t understand you. I know you’re capable of being a nice and normal human being, so why do you insist on antagonizing me like this?”
He takes a step forward, like it’s a challenge. “You’re not denying it, so I can’t be completely wrong.”
My mouth twitches open, but I hesitate. I guess I’m not denying it.
Satoru moves another inch closer, causing me to take a small step back. His powerful presence is all I can feel. His velvety tone delivers his words nice and slow. “Do you want to know the beauty of the Six Eyes, angel? It means that I can see everything.”
I feel the heat rush to my cheeks and I take in a sharp breath. Everything? What does he mean by everything? “Wh—What are you talking about?” I stammer.
His words are paced and methodical. “I see the way your cursed energy changes every time I walk in the room.”
There’s silence.
“...I can see the way it gravitates towards me when I rest on the doorframe, and the way it struggles to hold your gaze up when I’m wrapped in a towel.”
The sound of my heart fills the room.
“...I see the way it vibrates when you try to get a glimpse of my ass.”
My jaw drops open, but nothing comes out.
“...And I definitely see it sync with your heartbeat whenever I whisper in your ear.”
His hand grazes my shoulder while the other gently caresses my waist. I let him. My gaze locks onto his and I’m completely hypnotized.
Satoru slowly leans down and stops until his face is next to mine. “You want me, angel.”
I stiffen my spine, in hopes of him seeing that I won’t back down. But who am I kidding? I’ve already been caught in his trap. As I take in the scent of his freshly bathed body, I feel myself gush between my thighs. In that instant, I’m reminded that my only piece of clothing is an oversized shirt. “So what if I do?”
Satoru smiles, gently pinning me against the refrigerator. He places his forehead on top of mine and can feel his gaze burn through me. “Do you remember the rules I told you about on your first day back?”
One—If you want me, don’t want me.
Two—If you need me, don’t need me.
Three—If you need my help, help yourself first.
I let him lift my chin and gently kiss my lips. “I think they were for me more than they were for you. Because right now, I want you too.”
When I kiss him back, I feel his touch become more needy. I haven’t said a single word, but he knows my actions speak louder. He grabs my waist and flips me around so that my hips are pinned against his counter, allowing him to go deeper into the kiss. His grip is demanding, desperate to feel every bit of my body.
“I played nice and let Suguru have his fun, but I’m telling you right now—I need you.” He briefly pulls away and I see a rush of desire filling his hungry eyes. “So please angel, help me.”
I direct one of his hands to the bulge of his pants and the other underneath my shirt and in between my legs.  “How about you help yourself first.”
“No panties? Angel, you’re making this way too easy.” Satoru tugs down his pants to reveal his cock, stroking it as he teases my folds. He drops his forehead onto my shoulder and I hear him groan as he pleases himself. The size of his length is enough to make me gasp. I watch his large hands tug on it before my vision is blocked by Satoru pressing his lips into mine.
My arms stretch back onto the counter and I can feel the coolness of the sink spike through my fingers. My head rolls back and the rays of sunlight blind me as Satoru kisses his way down my neck.
“I always thought you were a good girl,” he growls in my ear. “I never expected you to prove me wrong.”
The words send shivers down my spine and I immediately tangle my fingers into his hair. He slides his fingers inside of me and my slick oozes out onto his hands. I feel the warmth of his pads, the ridges of his knuckles, I feel everything. He glides himself in and out, and the pressure instantly makes my walls convulse.
He continues to jack himself off and his breath becomes labored. The warmth in his breath hugs me as his kisses move back to my mouth. He’s desperately clinging to my lips and I can hear his groans as I tug on his hair.
He breaks away, panting, leaving our faces inches from each other. “Do you want to know the real reason I left that day?” he reveals.
My gaze locks onto his beautiful blue eyes.
“If I stayed, I would’ve wanted more. I would’ve dropped my limitless and it would be over.” Satoru slows down the pace of his fingers, and I feel myself dripping down on him with excitement. I guide the rest of his pants off and he gently lifts off my shirt.
The softness of his skin roams my body, leaving a trail of fire within me. When his hands are done searching, he drags them up to cup my face. “I left because… If I had the chance to feel you, and I mean really feel you, I would’ve fucked you until your legs give out.”
My mouth twitches and I raise my brow to challenge him. “Prove it.”
Before I can even think, Satoru’s hands race to grab a hold of my thighs. He lifts me up until my elbows are resting on the counter and my feet are off the floor. His grip is powerful as he drives his cock straight into me. No easing, no adjusting, just pure thrusting. I immediately throw my head back and moan in sincere delight, knocking over the dish rack behind me.
His hands venture over to my ass, squeezing so hard like he wants to milk every last bit of me. I don’t mind the bruises as long as it showers me with bliss. The pounding of his hips against mine reverberates through the entire room. All I hear is our moans mix with groans and he’s fucking me senseless like a messy symphony of pleasure and pain.
As his cock drills into me, I feel my back ache as he presses me into the counter. The edges dig into me, but the arousal between my legs overpowers it all. “Fuck.”
When Satoru notices, he eases his stroke to pick me up, and carries me to the table. “Maybe this will be a little more comfortable for you.”
I feel my cheeks touch the surface and slowly lower my back onto the wood. Satoru picks up one of my legs and throws it over his shoulder. Once he settles, he resumes pace and doesn’t let up. Whatever angle he has me at has his cock ramming directly into the sensitive spot in my pussy. I struggle to find a grip on the table, causing the vase of faux plants to crash.
“Angel, you are so tight.” His words have my moans growing louder by the second. How can I be an angel when Satoru fucks me like he’s the god damn devil?
His pace slowly increases and I feel my orgasm works its way to my core. “S—so close.”
Satoru removes his hold from my waist and brings his fingers to his mouth. He wraps his lips around them, before placing them on my clit. The initial shock stuns me, causing my walls to contract. He works with an even pressure, smearing all of my slick around me. The vibrations of his fingers build up inside of me and I can feel my body on the brink of release. He gives one last thrust, knocking down a chair and shaking the table, and I immediately crumble.
My orgasm shoots out from my core, down my legs, and through my toes. I let out a moan but it feels like my cry can be heard from miles away. The pleasure overtakes me and a rush of ecstasy floods my brain. My eyes snap shut, my body tenses, but as my orgasm fades, I wonder if I just died and got railed to heaven.
Satoru falls over me, panting hard to catch his breath. He lifts his head and curls his mouth into a smile. I return his smile with a complementary chuckle.
I slowly prop myself up when suddenly, a voice suddenly emerges from the hallway. “Satoru, you cheeky little bastard. When I said take care of her, I didn’t mean it like that.” Fuck. Suguru.
My mind goes blank and I can’t even move. Satoru’s head perks up as he turns to face Suguru. The air is tense and the silence lingers for far too long. Time slows down and it feels like no one has moved in what feels like hours. As I focus my attention on Suguru, I’m puzzled to see the reaction on his face. I fully expect anger and rage, but it’s…not?
“Hey, I—” Satoru starts.
Suguru lifts up his brow and the side of his mouth twitches into a smirk. “Well, are you going to let me join, or am I just gonna sit here and watch?”
As my eyes widen, Satoru turns his head back towards me. “See angel, I told you he wouldn’t mind sharing.”

𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬!┊synopsis: press needs you to read him to sleep, and he actually seems, shy?
reader x press
Tumblr media
the phone ringing lights up the dark room, press?
"hey Y/N."
well shit his voice even sounds hot at like 3 AM, no fair.
"what do you want press,"
sighing tiredly, she muted herself, waiting for press' response.
the girl groaned and jumped up to sit on the bathroom bench, right next to the sink, her back leaning against the mirror with a posture that would send her mother into a fit.
a soft chuckle filled with sleep could be heard on the other side of the line as she clicked to unmute.
"can't sleep." while press' usual gruff tone was still missing, his short sentences were very much present.
a beat passed while she waited for press to say anything else.
why is his sleeping patterns my problem?
"abby said somethin' about your magic stories making her sleep or whatever, so jus, just do that."
press was stuttering and repeating himself, almost in a flustered manner.
had she made the infamous matt press, nervous?
"so you want me, to tell you a story, to sleep?" she asked incredulously,
were brodie and max listening on the other side, filming and snickering at her embarrassment?
but it was almost three in the morning, and besides press and herself, everyone had gotten high out of their minds.
what story would she even read to him?
"uh, yeah sure, just a short one though," surprised at her own words, she agreed without much need of persuasion from his side.
"ok." press almost whispered, she could hear him shuffling around on wherever he was.
was press still at brodies? or had he gone home?
on the other side of the line, press was settling in to his bed, all alone.
if the boy were to walk into the hallway, he'd still be alone.
stroll down stairs, through the living room, the kitchen, he would still be alone.
so while it was a selfish act for press to call ana, he needed to not be alone.
and no other contact in his phone could make make press forget that he's alone, and sad, like ana can.
"doesn't even have to be your story, just talk, read a book from abby's room,"
press mumbled as he laid so that the bottom of the phone where the speaker was, was placed right beside his ear, laying on his side, facing the phone.
ana was too caught up in what to read him and how his voice sounded when it was raspy and strained with sleep.
so caught up she didn't stop to think about how he had known she was at abby's house and not her own.
press had been woken up by the absence of ana's warmth curled up in his lap, followed by a thump or two, and a distant laugh, light and amused coming from the stairs.
press heard the two voices of ana and abby leaving together, and in his sleepy haze, press wished he had been able to say goodbye.
"i'll just grab a book from abby's desk, one second," placing the phone on the bench at the lowest volume possible so not to wake up abby.
she creaked open the bathroom door, tiptoeing to abby's desk, picking up the first book she could see before locking herself back in the bathroom.
she really hoped that abby didn't have to pee anytime soon.
she looked at the book she had picked up, realising now with the light helping her see, that she had picked up animal farm, the school book they were studying in english.
"is it okay that it's animal farm?" she didn't really know why she was asking his opinion, seeing as they weren't friends, really they would fit more in the enemy category before tonight.
"anything just start reading, please." Press mumbled, in that in between state of awake and asleep.
flipping to a page somewhere in the middle, ana began to read from chapter 5,
"All that year the animals worked like slaves. But they were happy in their work;" she read,
"but any animal who absented himself from it would have his rations reduced by half. Even so, it was found necessary to leave certain tasks-" and read.
she read until she could hear snores from through the phone.
she read for a bit longer after that too, not quite wanting to hang up just yet.
as the time spent on the phone call rounded to almost an hour and a half, ana knew she should've hung up by now, any friend, or enemy would have.
"good night press." she clicked the large red button, the beep sounding out twice signalling her ending the call.
she was exhausted.
she hardly ever stayed up this late for anything other than studying, and never because some boy had asked her to read to him.
she carefully slid back into bed with abby, wrapping an arm around and cuddling to her warm body as if she had been there for the whole night.
however, she was met with the rigid freezing up of abby's body, as she suddenly turned around to face ana in a a flash, awake brown eyes narrowing at her.
"why were you in the bathroom for so long?" abby asked in a sharpened tone, raising a hand to rub her own eyebrows, as if to ward off a headache.
she quickly raised the book still in her hand in response,
"reading."
technically not a lie, ana was reading, just not only for her own enjoyment.
abby nodded, all tightness gone as she now leaned into her embrace, the scent of her soothing vanilla scented hair products filling the her senses.
"nerd." abby muttered, seemingly already deep in sleep, soon followed by her.

ENEMIES WITH BENEFITS WITH ANGST AND PINING 😭😭😭 I BEG
“You’re leaving,” the villain whispered.
“Have I ever told you about my favourite part of hooking up with you?”
The villain looked up from their coffee. I have a mission. I’ll be back in three months. The words echoed in their mind, feasting on it like a wicked parasite. Three months were endurable but that didn’t make the situation painless.
“I suppose finishing?” the villain guessed. The hero laughed and the villain realised they could get drunk on this sound. God, they felt like a fucking clown, longing for someone they weren’t supposed to have.
No one had ever made the villain feel loved. A difficult childhood, traumatising teenage years and horrible first years of being an adult made them feel worthless at best and redundant at worst.
“I mean, I like that part a lot, don’t get me wrong. Especially when you actually do let me finish.” The villain felt their cheeks burn. Sometimes they feared they were going too far but the hero seemed to enjoy to be told what to do. “But no. My favourite part is when you’re sleepy in the morning and the early sun dips your face in orange light. You always look so soft.”
“I am not soft,” the villain reminded them.
“Not always,” the hero agreed. “But despite what you want the world to believe, I’ve seen the truth and you can’t take that from me.”
“You’re leaving,” the villain said again. They looked at the hero on the opposite side of the table. Messy hair, sleepy eyes, bruised neck. There were even some older hickeys on their chest from another session a few days ago. The villain didn’t want them to disappear.
“I have no choice. It’s my job.” They sighed and took a sip of tea.
“We always have a choice.” The villain’s voice was as bitter as their thoughts. The hero would leave them. They would forget about them. They would find someone else. Three months were enough to forget.
“Oh, don’t be angry with me,” the hero said gently. “You’ll find another way to relieve stress. It’s just three months. You’ll find that I’m pretty easily replaceable when it comes to lovers.”
“I don’t want another way,” the villain said. They felt how angry they were getting. They wanted one person. Just one person on this entire earth. Of course that was too much to ask for.
The hero observed them for a while. They didn’t say anything at first but when they did, their voice was soft enough to invoke some kind of melancholy in the villain.
“Is this getting to you?”
“You wouldn’t understand it,” the villain answered. They stared at nothing in particular, angry at themselves, angry at the world, angry at destiny or whatever the fuck was controlling their way.
“I’m fairly certain I’d be the only one who’d understand,” the hero said. They’d always been good at soothing the villain. It was scary how synchronised their thoughts could be.
“Fine. This is getting to me. I can’t explain it. But I’m afraid I’ll always think of you when I look into my future spouse’s eyes in a decade or so. I’m afraid that I’ll always see a fraction of you when I’m in bed with someone else. And now you’ll leave me and I won’t be able to kill those thoughts. There won’t be any reassurance without you.”
“You know I will return, right?” The hero smiled sweetly at them, their beautiful eyes shining. “We can figure it out, I promise.”
“Then why does this feel like a goodbye for good?”
The hero leaned forward and took the villain’s hand.
“Because you’re overthinking. Everything will be alright, I promise. We’ll see each other in three months, I promise.” They squeezed their hand and the villain’s heart skipped a few beats.
However, the hero never returned. They died a day before the mission was completed.

”Heatherpaw! Heatherpaw!”
Beekit pressed up against her father, watching her sister touch noses with her new mentor. She was adopted, and a moon older than Beekit, so she’d start her warrior training earlier. Beekit was insanely jealous.
”Icymoss is like the best warrior in the Clan, and she’s a moon ahead of me. How am I supposed to ever catch up?” she thought out loud once the cheering had died down.
”There are plenty of good warriors in SongClan,” Honeystripe corrected her, tapping her head with his tail as he approached Heatherpaw to congratulate her.
Beekit hadn’t meant to sound so bitter, and sincerely hoped Heatherpaw hadn’t heard her. She should be happy for her sister, and she was. But it just wasn’t completely fair. Heatherpaw was better than her at pretty much everything already, despite not being born in the Clan and having been very small when she was found. They were actually pretty close in size despite the moon between them, but Heatherpaw was lean and nimble, while Beekit still stumbled over her own paws if she got distracted by a butterfly.
”Congrats, Heatherpaw!” Beekit smiled, pressing her cheek to her sisters anyway. It felt a little forced, so she quickly continued talking; ”I wish Icymoss could become my mentor. You’re so lucky!” That didn’t help, did it?
”Thanks,” Heatherpaw nodded, voice even as usual. ”He’s kind of a goofball, you two would never get anything done.”
Beekit forced a small laugh. It was hard to tell when Heatherpaw was joking, because her expression was always so unrevealing, but she’d started to get the cues. Still, she didn’t find it very funny.
”Speaking of…” Honeystripe mumbled, nodding to Icymoss who was stood at the entrance of the Camp. ”Don’t you have a territory tour to get to?”
Heatherpaw bounded off without saying goodbye, and Beekit let out a tense breath. She did like Heatherpaw, of course. But they were so different. They had always been different. Heatherpaw didn’t like to play that much, even when they both had been kits. She had preferred to hunt leaves or bugs in silence, and she didn’t like pretending she was an enemy warrior when they wrestled, so Beekit always had to be that. And Heatherpaw always won. Not because she desperately wanted to, she was just better. Beekit was actually pretty bad at play-fighting.
Once she did become an apprentice, she and Heatherpaw would be the only ones. The idea of sharing a den with her sister alone wasn’t all that appealing. Beekit had lots  of weird dreams all the time, and Heatherpaw would always scold her for waking her up. Not to mention, being one step behind her all the time in training would be annoying.
Maybe Tallbeam or Pronghorn could be her mentor. They were some of the best fighters and hunters in the Clan, and respected warriors. Really, as long as it wasn’t Bugskitter, she’d be happy. That tom really had it out for her. Once, when she was small, she’d asked why he was always so cold and nasty to her. My sister would still be alive if it weren’t for you, he’d said. Beekit had been so shocked and scared that she’d never asked him what he meant, and when she asked her dad, Honeystripe had just told her not to listen to him, that it wasn’t her fault. She still didn’t know what wasn’t her fault, but she would never hurt any cat. Whatever Bugskitter had been talking about must have been a lie. That’s what she told herself, anyway. Really, she didn’t really want to know, because the whole thing just made her feel awful.
The moon before her apprentice ceremony came and went. Any day now, Amberstar would call a meeting and set on her on the warrior path. Like the last few nights, Beekit found herself sleepless. Her uncle Bearfreckle was snoozing soundly in the nursery den (usually someone would to keep her company), his breaths light but weighed with sleep. It didn’t give her much comfort, though.
She didn’t know why she was so nervous to become an apprentice. Deep down, she knew it wasn’t just excitement, like everyone told her. And although she just knew she’d mess up a lot and probably be a terrible hunter and fighter, it wasn’t just doubt either. Something felt wrong. The idea of fighting itself felt horrifying, she couldn’t understand how warriors took such pride in it. She didn’t want to hurt anyone, ever! For any reason!
Restless and feeling like ants were crawling through her pelt, she got to her paws and got out of the nursery. The early Greenleaf air was cool and still. There was no wind and no sound of insects, just perfect silence. At camp’s edge she saw Gulldrizzle’s silhouette, keeping guard. She was facing out into the territory, so she didn’t notice Beekit.
Above, countless stars shone steadily down on her. Finally, a calm feeling began to spread through her body. She loved the stars. Pretty much everyone agreed that they were beautiful and comforting, since StarClan was up there. But when she looked up there, she got the same feeling as she did when she saw Honeystripe, or heard his voice. The comfort that told her no matter what, everything was going to be okay.
Laying down in the soft grass outside the nursery, she tilted her head so she could look up at them. They looked back, like they always did. Then, a shape began to take form between the little white dots. A milky white shadow, that grew more and more intense. Beekit threw herself up, and almost lost her balance when she realized the stars weren’t just above her, but all around her, even under her paws!
Her fur tingled with fear, breath quickening. Then, a voice.
”Don’t be afraid,” it said.
She looked ahead again, and the pale shape had turned into…a cat! A white cat, sitting a few tail-lengths ahead of her, with her tail neatly wrapped around her paws. The first thing Beekit noticed was how one of her ears was folded over her head. Her expression was bright and focused, and Beekit almost felt uncomfortable by the intensity of her deep gaze.
”Hello, Beekit” the she-cat mewed.
Beekit forgot to answer for a moment, then mewed back quietly; ”Hi.”
”You’ve grown so much!” the she-cat burst out with a big smile, then closed her eyes briefly as if to contain her emotions. ”See, I’ve been watching you ever since you were born.”
”Oh,” was all Beekit could force out, still a bit taken aback by seemingly floating among the stars. It finally hit her that she was dreaming, and that calmed her down a little. It was a weird dream, sure, but not weirder than the time she’d dreamt that she was an actual bee, flying between flowers, and all her Clanmates were also bees all living in a hive and making honey instead of hunting.
”Do…” the stranger paused, tilting her head. ”Do you know who I am?”
She sounded very hopeful, so Beekit made sure to think really hard. She’d never seen a cat with a folded ear, and she was sure she’d remember that. Finally, she shook her head slightly.
The she-cat sunk a little bit, looking down at her paws. ”No, of course not…” she mumbled, then stood up. ”That’s alright. My name is Peatswan.” She paused, looking at Beekit expectantly, like that would mean anything to her. It didn’t. Peatswan cleared her throat, looking a bit worried. ”Um, I’m a StarClan cat, but maybe you guessed that?”
Beekit hadn’t guessed that, but now she did notice the stars twinkling in the cat’s fur. They hadn’t been easy to see, since she was as white as snow. Then a chill ran up her spine.
”Wait…am I dead? Am I in StarClan?” she gasped, rising to her paws quickly.
The she-cat’s eyes widened, then she purred with amusement. ”No, you’re not dead. This is StarClan, sort of. Our hunting grounds are in a different place, but I thought maybe it would be good to talk to you somewhere less foreign. Though I now realize this isn’t very normal, either.”
As she talked, a weird feeling buzzed in Beekit’s chest. She suddenly realized her voice was familiar. Had she seen this cat in a dream before, and forgotten? Without thinking, Beekit walked up to the StarClan warrior. Peatswan tensed up, but Beekit couldn’t help herself. Once she was close enough to smell her properly, another chill spread through her body. The scent was sweet and so familiar, like walking into the nursery after being out of it for a whole day. Who was this cat? More and more, it was like she could almost remember, but it was buried deep in her mind.
Then she took a few steps back, realizing she was being a bit rude to this stranger. ”Sorry. Um…did you want to tell me anything in particular?”
Looking up at the she-cat’s face, she was surprised. The white warrior was smiling, but her eyes were so full of sadness and grief that Beekit felt her whole chest twist into knots. Had she said something bad?
”Are you okay?” she asked softly.
”Yes,” the she-cat nodded, almost laughing. ”Yes, I’m okay, Beekit. It’s sweet of you to ask. You’re right, I did want to tell you something.”
”What?” Beekit asked, sitting down in the field of stars.
”As I said, I’ve been watching you since you were born. So has all of StarClan. Do you remember when you were a little kit, and you dreamt that you were buried under the snow?”
Beekit shuddered. ”Yes, and then a blizzard came and all the dens got snowed in overnight…it was scary.”
”That was actually StarClan talking to you, in a dream,” Peatswan explained.
Beekit tilted her head, thinking. ”So it was like…a warning? I’m sorry, I didn’t know that…” she apologized, feeling bad. If she’d understood that, she could have told everyone to prepare for the storm.
”It’s okay, we knew you would all be alright. Otherwise we could have sent it to Ratquill or Riverpetal.”
”So why did you send it to me?” Beekit asked.
Peatswan twitched her whiskers with amusement. ”Isn’t it obvious?” she purred. ”You care so much about your Clanmates, and all you want is to help them and make sure everyone is okay, right?” Beekit nodded at this, suddenly feeling more understood than she ever had before. ”That’s why StarClan thinks you would make a good medicine cat. That’s why your dreams are so vivid, too. You have a very strong connection with us.”
”Really?” Beekit chirped, surprised more than anything.
She hadn’t really considered becoming a medicine cat before. The Clan had always had two, and Ratquill and Riverpetal were excellent at their duty. But then…Ratquill had passed away recently. That’s why Riverpetal hadn’t been able to hang out with her and show her stinky herbs the last moon; he’d been too stressed and busy. She’d felt so sad for him. But now, maybe she could finally help him!
”I’m going to be a medicine cat?” she meowed, standing up, paws restless with excitement. This felt nothing like her doubt about being a warrior, this felt completely right! As a medicine cat, she wouldn’t have to practice fighting, she would just get to help her friends and family when they got sick! That was the dream!
”Does that make you happy?” Peatswan meowed, though it seemed she knew the answer.
”Yes! Very!” Beekit mewed and threw herself forward to press her head against the StarClan warrior’s chest. ”Thank you, Peatswan!”
Peatswan laughed and pressed their heads together in a warm embrace, and although they had just met, it felt so familiar and comforting and just right, and Beekit was filled with so much warmth and happiness that her heart was about to pound out of her chest.
Then, she suddenly felt the ground materialize under her body and cool night air surround her, and Peatswan’s warm body was gone. She was laying in the grass outside the nursery again, but not for long. Brimming with excitement, she scrambled to her paws quicker than prey running from a warrior’s claws and bounded into the warriors den.
”Honeystripe! Father, wake up!” she yowled, crawling over her adult Clanmates where they slept. They all protested loudly to being woken up, some beginning to scold her, but she didn’t care.
”What is it, Beekit? Are you okay?” Honeystripe meowed worriedly once she found him.
”I just had the craziest dream!” she meowed, instantly being hushed.
”No one cares about your stupid dream, Beekit…” Breezebriar grumbled, his amber eyes glinting in the darkness.
”What did you dream, Honeybee?” Honeystripe continued, slightly calmed now.
Beekit took a deep breath, and began to retell her experience in a whisper; ”I met a warrior from StarClan, she was so beautiful and nice, her name was Peatswan, and she told me that StarClan has watched over me and sent me dreams — you remember my dream about the blizzard that came true, right? — and...” she trailed off as she saw her father’s expression change to one she couldn’t read, and suddenly everyone in the den were looking at her. ”What is it?”
”What did she say to you, Beekit?” Twigmoor asked from where she was laying nearby, deep curiosity in her face.
”She told me that I’m supposed to become a medicine cat,” Beekit said, feeling odd suddenly, but smiled at Honeystripe. ”Isn’t that great?”
Finally, he cracked into a smile, and she recognized the look in his eye. It was the same as Peatswans had been, in her dream. ”That sounds like something you’d be good at,” he said.
The stiff silence shifted, some beginning to purr congratulations to her, or speaking quietly to each other. Twigmoor leaned closer to her brother.
”You have to tell her now,” she mumbled seriously, and Honeystripe nodded.
”Tell me what?” Beekit asked, but Honeystripe just stood up from his nest and guided her out of the den with his tail. ”Sorry for waking all of you up!”
Honeystripe led her to the edge of the Camp, above the slope behind the leader’s den. There they sat down. Beekit was prickling with anticipation.
”What is it?” she repeated, studying his face with the unreadable expression.
”I want to tell you about your mother,” he said.
Beekit perked up. She’d wondered about her mother since Ratquill told her where kits came from — her father had been annoyed the old medicine cat her told her that when she was ”too young”, but Beekit had actually understood it pretty well — because that meant Honeystripe couldn’t have done it all himself exactly. Though, there were other families in the Clan that weren’t so obvious how they came to be. Either way, when she’d asked him about it, he had become quiet and upset, and not given her an answer. Even though she had been little at the time, she had understood that she shouldn’t ask about it. Besides, she had Twigmoor and Bearfreckle too, they had helped take care of her since she was born, and the three of them had always been enough. So she’d tried to stop thinking about it.
Honeystripe went on to tell her about how amazing her mother had been. Apparently she was very funny, and knew a lot of things that no one else seemed to know, and could copy bird sounds. Then the story turned very sad. When Beekit was born, her mother had died. Apparently this could happen sometimes, and there was nothing medicine cats could do, and it was no one’s fault.
Beekit was struck with a grief so deep that she had to crouch down.
”Was she Bugskitter’s sister?” she asked, looking up at her father, remembering the warrior’s cold words when she was little.
”Yes,” Honeystripe nodded. ”Bugskitter loved her very much, and misses her very much, just like I do.”
Beekit nodded solemnly, her mean feelings for Bugskitter melting away into sympathy. He couldn’t help being angry, and she could understand. After a brief silence, she asked;
”And Peatswan was my mother?”
”Yes, that’s right,” Honeystripe nodded, laying down next to her.
Beekit had known she and the white warrior were connected from the moment she felt her scent. It had resonated deep within her, filling voids inside her that had been there since she was born. It just felt stupid to start assuming things like that based on so little, and she had trained herself not think about her mother for so long. But deep in her heart, maybe she had known it.
”I’m so glad I’m becoming a medicine cat now, I probably get to see her again soon,” Beekit hummed, smiling to herself. Then she was suddenly struck with guilt after saying that, since Honeystripe clearly missed her a lot. She looked up at him to meet his eyes. ”I’m so sorry, Dad. It must have been so hard when she died.”
The emotion in Honeystripe’s eyes almost made her look away, but she held fast. ”You remind me of her so much, Honeybee. When you’re around, I don’t need to miss her so much.

“Another way out”
Tumblr media
Tw; spoiler for Age of Ultron I guess
Do not steal my work please
Tony/Villain Male reader
Summary; After the Ultron catastrophe, everybody turns against Tony. No one listens to him and soon the hero feels trapped. Until an old enemy unexpectedly offers him a hand.
~~~~~~~~~
The tower was silent and Tony Stark hated it. It was his fault, he could not deny it. He had fuck up. Now hundreds of people had died, and a whole town had been whipped out. His greatest creation had turned into a nightmare. Ultron should have stayed an impossible dream. Not an actual project.
The worse was probably the fact no one wanted to talk to him. Pepper was long gone before he was home and the team separated the second they landed. No goodbye, not a single word. It didn't matter if he took all the blame if he already called to pay everything to rebuild the town or heal the wounded. They refused to look or talk to him.
Of course, the journalists and news channels were having the time of their life! Tony Stark had, again, done something horrible.
With a bottle of bourbon in hand, Tony walked down his lab. Jarvis was gone and he needed to work on Friday, even if he didn't have the heart to do so.
Manually opening the lights, Tony froze. Something was wrong. Yet, the genius couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. Everything was in its place. But the atmosphere was wrong. It felt as if someone had come and gone without him noticing. It was impossible; only he had the code to come down.
Tony almost dropped his bottle when he saw you sitting behind his computer, a smirk on your lips. Cursing, Tony searched for anything he could use against you, but you had made sure there was nothing that could harm you. Out of ideas, Tony brandished his bottle, ready to throw it at you.
- “Really, Tony?” you asked, your voice surprisingly soft. “I come to talk, and you, you want to hurt me?”
- “Shut up! How the hell are you alive?” hissed Tony, wondering how he could walk out of this mess.
Of course one of his greatest enemies would show up when he was alone, without anyone to call in backup. It has been a while since you two had an altercation. To be honest, Tony thought Natasha had killed you when she shot you. He had been so angry he had tried to punch her. Of course, his fist never touched her and only made the situation worse.
You weren't as brilliant as him, but you were one of the best inventors he knew. He had seen you build or create things with barely anything for the base. He both loved and hated fighting you. You challenged his brain, but also his heart and morals.
While a part of him was happy you weren't being eaten by fish, Tony wondered what you had in mind for him. No way you wouldn't seek revenge against him!
But you surprised him again by laughing. It took Tony off guard. Of all the possible reactions you could have, laughing at him was the one he had imagined. Calming himself, Tony stared at you. You wore black leather clothes and the musky smell of your cologne reached his nose. He couldn't see your gun but knew you at it somewhere. You seemed also pretty relaxed.
Not a surprise.
- “Really Tony. If I had wanted you dead, you and your little friends wouldn't have landed. But I don't want you dead.”
- “And what do you want from me? A hug? A thank you card?” asked Tony, still not lowering his improvised weapon. “I saw you get shot by Natasha and fall from that cliff. How the hell are you not dead?”
- “Tony... Tony... You should know by now; no corpse, then not dead!” you replied happily. “As to how I had myself covered against her little toys.”
- “Then what do you want from me?” asked Tony, dropping the bottle on the table before sitting next to it.
- “I told you. I came to talk.” you repeated. “I saw everything on the news and wanted to come and see by myself how you were doing. Not great should I say.”
Tony said nothing and opened his bottle. Of course, he wasn't doing fine, he didn't need you to point it out.
- “Now that you saw how miserable I am, can you go away? I'm trying to get drunk here.”
- “No, I don't think so.”
You came to sit next to him and Tony ignored you, drinking from the bottle. You didn't stop him or even tried to take it away, but the genius did keep an eye on you.
- “Tony, you and I have been through a lot together. We have fought and laughed and cried. You even cursed and blasted me through a wall once. We do know each other well enough, dare I say. So let me ask you this; why are you still with them?”
Tony turned his head toward you and stared, unsure of what to answer. He didn't need to ask who you were talking about. The Avengers. You always bothered him with that. Why? Because when Loki came and fucked the shit up, he had no choice. Yet, even when everything was over, he didn't leave. Even if he wasn't good at teamwork or listening to others, he stayed with them.
Why?
- “Honestly buttercup, I don't know.” he sighed, finishing his bottle.
The alcohol was barely affecting him and Tony cursed Pepper. She must have changed all his liquors for something weaker.
- “Then what are you doing with them?”
Again, there was no answer to that. Besides saving people? Nothing.
- “You are giving them everything you have, Tony. Your money, your life and more importantly, your brain and trust. What are they giving you?”
Tony kept quiet, too busy finishing his bottle. He wanted nothing more than to smash it against your head and beats you with it. But you were saying the truth. Forcing it in his face.
Like always.
That's probably why Natasha shot you that day.
- “Nothing” he finally answered, feeling his eyes filling with tears. “Nothing at all.”
- “Then leave them” you replied, drying one of his tears with your thumb. “Tony, you deserve better. “
- “Yeah, no. I deserve worse.” he chuckled before you slapped him behind the head.
- “I'm serious Tony.”
You sighed and lay down on the table, crossing your arms under your head.
- “I didn't just come to check on you, to be honest. I also want to offer you a partnership.”
- “Are you fucking kidding me? Me? Joining a villain?” snapped Tony. “The world might turn its back to me, but I will never...”
- “That's not what I mean so calm your tits.” you interrupted him “I and other have noticed the shift in the world. There are more and more villains on Earth, but the worse threats are coming from either space or other worlds. We are not prepared for when Thanos comes back. You also know he will be back. So, my accomplices and I have started our little Club for Earth Defence and we want you with us Tony.”
- “Excuse me?” blurted Tony
- “Yeah, I know. Not quite the arrangement I expected of my lifestyle, but here we are!” you chuckled as you sat back, petting him in the back. “You were there Tony, in space. You saw it firsthand and fought those aliens. We want your expertise on them and help. We all left our old life behind and faked our death so we can focus on that. Of course, we are not asking you to do the same. But if you join us, it would be better for you to stay away from the S.H.I.L.D. and the Avengers. You could go back solo!”
Of all the possibilities, never Tony had expected you to come up with all that. It made so much sense now why you were pissing off Natasha so much; you were trying to get shot! And there as been many suicides and accidents lately in the scientific community.
It has been under his nose all that time!
- “And if I accept, how do I contact you?” he asked
- “For now? With that number. I'm sure you will find a more practical way to do so” you said, giving him a card.
- “You’re serious? C.E.D?” you asked in disbelief
- “Told you we named ourselves Club for Earth Defence!” you laughed, jumping off the table. “ Hope you gave us a call soon, Tony. It was good seeing you again.”
Tony watched you walk toward the stairs, hands in your pockets.
- “It was good to see you too, Y/N.” he finally said before you took the stairs.
You gave him one last smile and left. In his chest, Tony felt his heart race. Joy, fear, confusion... There were so many feelings he felt at that second. But the best one was hope. Because he wasn't alone anymore. There were more people ready to do anything to protect their world and know it was coming.
Starting at the card, Tony scoffed. Yeah, once he had made the calls to leave the Avengers and the S.H.I.L.D. he would work on a better name for the club.
Characters - biker/racer!Jungkook X reader (f) Genre - drama, angst and a tiny bit of fluff. Word count - 2.1k  Warnings - suggesting in some parts but no actually written smut, JK smoking, a bit of an abusive ex but not for long. Summary - Red, Yellow, Green and race. Who’s going to be faster? My bike or the heart that beats for you? Author’s note - This is one of my wattpad stories written in another language that I translated, I hope you like it! Excuse my mistakes. ^^ Red
I adjust my helmet.
Yellow
I take a deep breath trying to calm my racing heart.
Green
I speed up and let the adrenaline fill my veins.
The race finally begins.
I speed up and ferociously pass all the participants. The road is a little steep, but I’m too engulfed with the sensation of pleasure to feel anything. I focus on the road, already feeling the sweet nectar of victory.
Passing the last participant, I start accelerating even harder, leaving a big cloud of dust and sparks behind me.
I see the victory line in front of my eyes and without fail I cross it. I abruptly stop the engine, a lot of coloured dust being thrown into the air when I pass the finish line. After some time the rest of the participants arrive, but the only thing they can see is my winning silhouette and the writing on the back of my jacket "Jungkook 7" gold letters engraved on the matte black material.
I take off my helmet and get off my bike immediately being surrounded by a sea of girls who are stopped by the massive guards who were making sure things go according to plan.
The crowd screams my name, and the envious faces of my competition make me feel like a king raised on a pedestal.
I love victory.
“Good race Jeon, another day reminding me why I am your manager.” Kylo says patting me friendly on the back, his smile showing me how satisfied he is with my victory. “No need to worry, as long as Jeon Jungkook has hands and feet, victory will flow like a river.” I say confidently. “Good, that's the spirit, don't let anyone get to your ego. Go and rest now, champion.” He waves me goodbye and holding tightly my helmet I go towards my locker hearing the girls scream for me “I love you, Jungkook! You're my life!”, “I'll do anything for you, Jungkook, please look at me!” I wave and smile at them and their screams start to ring out even louder. Entering the locker room, I am greeted with unpleasant looks by some other competitors. “I see you've done it again, Jeon. I'm sure next time you won't get away with it.” says my biggest enemy, Sung. “If I was interested in your story maybe I'd let you at least get close to me during the race, but you like to eat my dirt anyway.” Sung holds up his fist ready to punch me, but he’s held back by several people that are around. “We'll see, Jeon. Someday you'll bite it and I'll be the first to laugh in your face. I'm gonna come up to you, punch you and make sure I'm gonna mark your prince face forever.” I roll my eyes at him and walk past them knowing they can't do anything to me, I'm number 1 here and anyone who messes with me would have serious
Problems to deal with. I quickly throw my sweaty gear in the closet, get in the showers and wash away my sinsfor the day.
By the time I step outside the place is enveloped in silence. I go towards my locker to see my street clothes neatly folded there. I get dressed quickly, step outside where I am hit by the cold air and see parked just for me, my beautiful motorbike.
I get on it and begin chasing through the silence of the night.
I love the feeling the wind leaves on my skin and the blood pumping through my veins the moment I start accelerating.
But my bliss doesn't last long when a red light appears in the dashboard and spoils all my plans. I'm out of gas… I have to stop, however the bad luck doesn't last long and I see a gas station in front of me. I stop in a drift, then park quietly and start to fill up my tank.
Around me the atmosphere was calm, after all who comes to a station in a near deserted place, in the middle of the night? I close my eyes, tired but filled with satisfaction.
I wait until the tank is full and then I go in to pay, the cashier, almost asleep, jumps up when he sees me. I immediately throw a pile of money on the counter and ignore the cashier who started calling for me because I've given him too much money. In a rush I am outside and lighting a cigarette, I take smoke filling my lungs with nicotine.
I'm ready to take one more, but a distant scream catches my attention.
I throw my cigarette on the ground and put it out with my foot and with slow steps I walk towards the place where the sound is heard.
I pass my bike and a little further in the distance I notice a female figure being pulled abusively hard by someone. “Let me go!” my feet started getting faster all of a sudden. “Shut up! You draw attention towards us.” The man starts pulling the women more towards him “ I don’t care! Get your hands off me!” I get so close that the girl's back makes contact with my chest, my hand wrapping around her waist. “What problems do you have with my girlfriend?” The man finally stops and I raise my eyebrow at him. The lost girl looks up at me and I almost lose myself in her big, glossy eyes. “Why didn't you tell me you found someone else? Is it that hard to talk to me?” His hand was still gripping the poor girl's arm disgustingly tight so I pulled her towards me and held her tighter. “I asked you a question, what's your business with my girlfriend?” He finally gets the sign, clearly becoming intimidated by my presence, maybe even the fact that I was a head taller than him and much more muscular, not to mention that the biker outfit made me look even more threatening.
“Sorry dude, I didn’t know she found someone else” “Get lost before I run over you with my bike” The man raises his hands in defense and walks away, figure disappearing into the night.
I look at the tiny girl I was still holding and ask her if she’s okay. The girl peels herself away from me, rubs her arm, which subtly turns from red to purple, and looks at me once again with the same enchanting gaze. “I'm grateful, thank you. I don't know what I'd do if you weren't here.” “Who was that guy, do you know him?” I ask curiously. “Yeah…my ex…” “I think he has a hard time understanding that if you’re asking me.” She laughs at my statement leaving me mesmerized by her beauty. Without wasting more time I stretch out my hand to her “My name is Jungkook.” “Y/N, glad to meet you” She reaches out and I gently take her hand in mine, but instead of shaking I bring it closer to my lips and leave a kiss on the back. Y/N giggles and smiles even more brightly at me. “Wow, what a gentleman we have here.” “Then can a gentleman like me drive a beautiful girl home?” I don't usually make such proposals to anyone, especially girls I meet randomly on streets, but something about her makes me dive even deeper, she was alluring. “I'd be delighted.” with her arm linked to mine I show her the way to my bike. “I didn't know that's how I'd get home.” she sais while I place my helmet on her head. “What, you don't like motors?” “I couldn't say I dislike them, but I much prefer the person who rides it.” She winks at me and climbs on the back of it, her body sticking to mine, hands clutching tightly at my waist. Her touch lighting a flame inside me.
“I hope you're not afraid, because I don't know the term brake, speed defines me.” “Don't worry, I like the taste of adrenaline too.” She whispers seductively in my ear, sending shivers down my spine, and without hesitation I start the engine. …
Once in front of her house, I stop and let her get off. Y/N takes off my helmet and hands it back. “Thank you my “two-wheeled” knight for this wonderful ride.” “Anytime, my lady.” Y/N moves dangerously close to me and in a second I feel her soft lips caress mine, gently running her bottom lip over my piercing, I don't stop her, instead I catch her lips in a deep kiss.
After a good few minutes, I let go of her, we exchange numbers, and I watch how she goes inside her house. Once I'm sure she’s in I lean my head back and with two fingers touch my slightly sore lips. I smile like an idiot and place my helmet back on, the smell of her perfume still lingering in it. I set off on the road again and once I reach my house, I throw myself on the bed and remember my victories of the day. After all, I was lucky I stopped at the gas station. … Time flew by quickly, my days were spent sleeping and resting my bones, and my nights were spent dominating the race course and a woman named Y/N.
I considered myself an even bigger winner than I was before. Victory after victory later consumed either in my bed or hers, a story ripped from the fiction books. Lying in my  way-too-familiar bed, with a cigarette between my lips and a woman dear to me in my arms, only city lights lighting the room.
Y/N's slender fingers touched the tattooed skin of my arm, occasionally tracing the lines with her fingernails. “And when did you say your next race was?” I turn my head towards her, Y/N smiles seductively at me and moves closer to leave a kiss on my lips, her sweet aroma mixing with the taste of tobacco.
“Tomorrow, wanna come?” I put out my cigarette and lean down to leave hot kisses on her bare chest. Her hands tangle in my hair tugging it gently. “Am I invited?” she asks while playing with the strands of it “You always were. When you're out there and I see your face in public, I feel the desire to win even more.” “I don't think winning races makes you feel like a winner anymore, I see you want something more.” she says with lustful eyes, while her hands start tracing my back. “You're right, now I need you to make me feel victorious.” My hands slip under the sheet and begin to caress her naked waist gently. “I'll be there, as usual.” “Good choice, I do need you.” “Now or then?” she asks and I look deep into her eyes. “Always”. And with that our lips join again in a new night of passion. … Red, yellow and …Again…I wait, this time even more impatiently for this race to start.
My hands are tightly placed on the handlebars of my motor, ready to accelerate and take, once again, the face of the suckers I was playing with all along. A tough game where a sweet victory awaits at the end is about to unfold.
Green Once the lights turn a shade of green, I turn the handlebars and start the race first, my wheels spinning like never before.
I turn my head shallowly and lock eyes with Y/N for a few seconds.
On her a jacket in the same matte black and in front of it engraved a large gold number 7 followed by the initials JK.
Pushing my way along the winding roads, but untouched by any other competitor, I make my way through the crowd of obstacles.
Seeing once again the familiar finish line I lean forward a little and cross it in a rush without any problems. I stop my bike in a spectacular drift, but in a second the atmosphere changes.
Instead of hearing voices calling my name and seeing the wave of coloured dust, I am knocked off my seat and kneeled down.
“Jeon Jungkook, you are under arrest for participating in illegal races, you have the right to remain silent because anything you say can and will be used against you.” In front of me two female feet stop, I feel my helmet being taken off my head and I look up, my breath raging and my heart pounding in my chest. In front of me are displayed the same sparkly letters "7 JK", this time the jacket unbuttoned and under it a shiny police badge.
“I’m so sorry, Jungkook.”
That's what she tells me before turning around taking both my helmet and my heart with her.
Tumblr media
Walking through the ship was like taking a tour across a movie set, and you almost tripped over your own feet as you stared around and tried to take it all in. Croc actually grabbed you and set you upright again when you stumbled, half-contorted in an attempt to peer over your shoulder without breaking stride, and you grinned at him despite yourself.
You barely heard his explanation about their scanners picking up an enemy passing by the crash site about two hours after you’d left, heading in your direction. Apparently they’d grabbed their gear and run all the way to you, and even then had only just found you in time. You croaked out a weak ‘thank you’, and he chittered a fond laugh back.
“Losing an arm hasn’t slowed you down at all,” you said, and he clicked something proudly at you. “How’s it healing?”
“Well. Commander has scheduled a fitting for a prosthetic the moment I’m back on the mothership.”
The rescue ship had been alerted to the enemy’s presence too, while Big Red and Croc were charging after you, and the new team had diverted to your location to assist in the kill if necessary, then pick up Croc and Big Red, and destroy the carcass of the enemy creature. That done, they were to return to the crash site to collect the rest of Croc and Big Red’s salvaged gear from the ruined ship.
Apparently, that had all been achieved while you’d been passed out, and all that remained now was to destroy Red’s ship after take-off. They were willing to help humans out against the enemy which they themselves had brought to Earth, but they weren’t prepared to let a ship, with its technology and secrets, fall into human hands to be picked over by analysts and researchers.
Entering the bridge through a sliding door in the bulkhead, you looked around, still slack-jawed.
Situated at the nose of the arrowhead ship, the nerve-centre of the vessel was illuminated by a huge, curved window that looked out over the forest in the grey light of the growing dawn beyond. Below it, a massive deck of navigational instruments and control screens hugged the contour of the ship in a wide arc.
Seated in what had to be the captain’s chair was the alien you’d seen tending to Red. Their colouring in the warm, low lights of the bridge seemed to be a mix of blood-red and burgundy, though you couldn’t see if they looked like Croc’s species or Red’s because they had a dark helmet over their head. Just visible at the back of their head were relatively short but thick ‘dreads’ that just brushed their shoulders.
They turned in the swivel-chair as you and Croc entered, and Croc bowed his head formally.
The leucistic one who had helped you out of your harness drifted into the room like a ghost, and you saw that they too were wearing a helmet this time, though it was made of bone like Red’s, even though they had looked more like Croc’s species. Perhaps it was for the overall pale aesthetic.
Croc introduced you by name to the captain and first officer in their own language. Where the last member of the rescue crew was, you weren’t sure, but a quick glance around the blinking lights and glowing screens of the bridge showed you that you were alone with the two strangers and Croc.
Perhaps scenting your anxiety, Croc took a small step close to you and laid his hand on your shoulder. His black claws curved right around the joint, but you felt a little of the tension ease out of you at the delicate pressure. He had your back. He wasn’t going to let anything bad happen to you.
“Hello,” you croaked at the captain, who twitched their head and said something behind their mask to the pale one.
At the captain’s orders, the first officer disappeared back through a different door on the far side of the back wall from where you were standing, and Croc guided you into the room and a little closer to the captain.
“So… I understand you’re going to try and drop me at the base?” you said and they nodded. “Thank you. Something has been blocking my GPS and satellite phone though,” you said. “I’m assuming it’s something on your ships?”
Again, they nodded.
“Ok. If you can deactivate it for a while, I can contact my superiors and tell them you’re going to bring me back, and tell them not to open fire.” For emphasis, you added, “That way I can take your High Elder’s message to my people and we can get the ball rolling on wiping out the enemy from Earth before it’s too late…”
So much for not being a diplomat, you thought smugly, though you didn’t let it show. You still looked like a ragged stray, with your torn and dirty clothing after all, but at least their medicine had healed your cuts and acid burns and bruises.
A moment later, the pale one — ‘Ghost’ perhaps, you thought for the lack of colour and the way they moved with eerie silence — came back into the room with only the hiss of the bulkhead door to announce them, and held out a metal cup on a tray to you. It was strange to see one of their kind that was so short, relatively speaking. You barely had to crick your neck to look at them.
You shot Croc a quizzical look and he flared his mouth in a smile. “Water.”
Chewing on your lower lip for a second, you put your trust in these creatures to the test yet again and took the cup. It looked like water, but there was only one way to find out. After a cautious sip, you gulped the contents down and handed it back to ‘Ghost’. “Thank you,” you said, taking in both ‘Ghost’ and the captain with your gaze.
The captain rose from their chair and stalked over to you. Holy shit, if you’d thought Red was tall, this one had to have been nearly eight feet, and although they were not broad and hulking in the way Big Red was, they had a steady, almost sinister presence that almost made you want to step back into the safety of Croc’s shadow.
They wore pauldrons on both shoulders, and a small, battle-scarred chestplate, but their muscled midsection was visible above the armoured loincloth and articulated tassets that covered their thighs, and it was protected only by a flexible looking strip of lamellar armour that connected breastplate to belt down the centre.
Like Croc, they had greaves on, but no boots or shoes to cover their clawed feet; only a small, flexible sole that was fixed at the ankle and across their clawed toes like sandals. The skin around the centre of their stomach and inner thighs and arms was a pale, pinkish cream, but the red colouring deepened to such a dark, wine-stain red down their arms and around their sides and ribs that you were almost tempted to nickname them Merlot or Rioja. You didn’t dare though, and stuck to ‘captain’.
For a long moment, they just stood there and regarded you.
Knowing a little of what Red’s mask could do, you assumed they were running some kind of biometric analysis on you from their helmet, so you just stood there and waited, and tried not to squirm.
Eventually, they tilted their head in the way you’d come to recognise from Red and Croc as satisfaction, and you smiled and relaxed just a fraction. They clicked something to Croc, who nodded and then translated. “You will have to go outside to make your communications,” he said. “For a brief time, we will turn off the jamming signals and cloaking which is preventing you from making contact with your people. I will turn it off on our ship too.”
“The crash didn’t completely destroy everything then?” you asked and he shook his head.
“How do you think the Boss kept his room so cosy in that storm?” he snorted and then wheezed in your ear, “His attractive personality?”
You snorted but quickly composed yourself. You had no idea how much the captain knew of your… ‘relations’ with Red, and didn’t want to get him into trouble.
Croc continued blithely, “The engines were out, but the backup power worked fine. It’ll never fly again, but we could still access a few of the systems.”
You nodded and then turned back to the captain. “Just say when, and I’ll go and try it.”
While Croc needed to translate the captain’s words in order for you to understand them, they seemed to have no problem understanding yours.
Croc elbowed you. “Come on. I’ll come with you.”
It felt strange to be standing outside in the misty, dawn atmosphere of the crash site again.
The outline of their broken ship seemed as familiar now as the landmarks of your hometown, and as you stared at it from the gangway of the second ship, you sighed. “Is it wrong that I just want to camp out in the woods with you two forever, and not go back home at all?” you muttered up at Croc.
He crooned fondly and shook his head. “Boss is the same,” he snorted. “You should make your call.”
“You’re keen to get going then?” you asked, dread pooling in the pit of your stomach.
He chittered something in his language that had the ring of a name to it “— wants to blow this place up and get back to the mothership. We shouldn’t linger. They’re a good captain, but unlike the Boss, they have a temper…” he added in a conspiratorial whisper.
“And you’re already in their debt after they diverted here to save you, and then to help me…” you sighed. “I understand.”
It didn’t take long to reestablish communication with the base, and after getting an absolute earful from the team leader about not being in contact for so long, you explained the very basics of what had happened, and she listened in silence. Then she disappeared to check with her commander to get the all-clear for an alien ship to land on base.
It all seemed to take ages.
While you waited for your satellite phone to ring again, Croc paced back and forth between the ships, looking tense and twitchy. They had left themselves completely vulnerable to detection from all quarters now, and all so that you could return safely to base. They could have just left you there in the woods, maybe even blown you up with the ship, and returned straight to this ‘mothership’, but they had diverted for you, and they were lingering there for you.
Eventually you heard back, and Croc came over to listen to the instructions too before escorting you back onto the new ship. With the message delivered to the captain, Croc took you back to their small infirmary to wait, and you sat on the edge of Red’s bed while he slept on.
Ghost stuck their head in a little while later and chittered something shyly to Croc before vanishing again without looking at you.
“Commander gave the all-clear,” Croc said. “You’re going home.”
You looked down at Big Red and reached carefully for his large forehead. You trailed your fingertips over the hard bumps and ripples, and all the way around the protective ridge that covered the roots of his ‘dreads’, and sighed.
Croc watched intently and twitched a mandible when you looked up at him. “He’s so still. Will he really be ok?” you asked in a whisper.
“Yes. He is sedated. He has much healing still to do. Their venom is lethal if an antivenom is not administered immediately…”
The memory of Croc stabbing him in the neck with a syringe crossed your mind and you nodded. “You saved him. And you both saved me. Thank you, Croc. You could have just left me to die out there, but… you came for me.”
He moved over to stand beside the bed and pulled you against his torso in a one-armed hug before leaning back and running his hand affectionately over Red’s crest too.
“You should prepare for takeoff,” he said, sounding more gruff than usual. “It will not take long to reach your base.”
You had no visual reference for how high or how fast you were travelling once the ship had smoothly taken off, but not long after the engines had spooled up and hummed to life, you heard three rapid blasts from what sounded almost exactly like a sci-fi plasma cannon, and a muffled explosion followed. Red’s ship was gone, and with it a small chunk of the forest too probably.
You sat with Red in silence for the short ride.
He slept on, slowly healing, and you slid your fingers into his where they lay curled and unresponsive atop the thin, warm blanket that covered his body.
Strangely enough, it was the fabric that felt alien to you, not the creature beneath it.
The ridges and textures of his palm and fingertips played across your skin and made your nerves tingle. You could still remember how his hands had felt across every inch of you, and you shuddered and let out a rough breath. You stooped and kissed his knuckles.
As you straightened up again, the bone amulet slid free from your collar and dangled in the space between you, knocking against his side like a charm in the wind. You tucked it back beneath the fabric again so that it would lie warm and secure against your skin, and sighed and promised him silently that you’d wear it always.
The soft hiss of the door announced Croc’s arrival a minute or so after the ship had touched down and the engines had fallen silent, and he stood quietly, watching you for a long few seconds.
Red still hadn’t woken.
With a heavy heart, you stood and kissed his delicate, unresponsive mandibles one last time. “Love you, Red,” you whispered. “I hope you know that.”
With tears in your eyes, you left him for the second time, and followed Croc through the ship.
“I’ll go out first,” you said to the captain who was already standing at the ramp. They now had some kind of mini swivel-gun mounted onto their left pauldron, and their belt was bristling with knives and weapons. “Thank you for trusting me,” you added diplomatically.
The captain just nodded.
Out of nowhere to your right, Ghost appeared to lurk in your peripheral vision, startling the living daylights out of you and making Croc wheeze a laugh at your reaction, and then the ramp began to lower.
On the concrete yard outside you found a semicircle of human soldiers, all with weapons trained at the ship. Croc snarled and instinctively took up a fighting stance, but you laid a hand on his stomach and he stilled. He did not relax.
Turning to the soldiers, you yelled, “Don’t shoot! Do not fire! I’m going to come out alone and I’m going to walk towards you. I’m unarmed and unhurt.” You knew the agreed-upon procedure as well as the aliens and their captain did, but it didn’t hurt to announce your intentions.
With a quick look at the captain, you murmured a quick, “Thank you,” and turned to Croc one last time. “Tell Red… Tell him I’ll never forget him,” you said, brushing your fingertips against the amulet. “Or you. I hope we see each other again.”
He bowed his head and clicked something at you that made the captain gasp and growl at him, but Croc ignored them and sank to one knee again, bringing his right hand up behind his head and pulling his ‘dreads’ to one side to expose the left side of his throat to you. “I am… indebted,” he said.
“Croc, you saved my life last night. You’re not in my debt…”
“Always,” he said. “I am yours before all else, my friend.”
“Ok,” you choked, trying to keep it together.
You had no idea what the appropriate response to his gesture was, but you placed your palm flat on the side of his neck before sweeping it up to his jaw.
With a fond stroke of your thumb over the hard, cool skin of his cheek, you said, “Thank you. Take care of yourselves for me, ok?”
He nodded, clicked out a little phrase in his own language, and then stood once more.
You turned and walked away down the ramp and towards your own people again.
No shots were fired, the captain’s ship was allowed to leave a few minutes later, and you found yourself at the centre of frantic operations for months afterwards.
Naturally, there was an awful lot that you deliberately left out about your few days with Big Red and Croc, but you made it known that theirs was a highly intelligent species that prized an individual’s fighting ability and honour over much else, though they could be compassionate and humorous at times too.
Those first few months after your return were some of the busiest of your life, and they numbered among the hardest too. You met several other members of the species who had come to be known colloquially as ‘Hunters’, and while none of them was like Big Red, you saw elements of him in each of them: in their power and posture; in their clicking mandibles and in the turn of their head; in the way their ‘braids’ would swish across their shoulders… But none of them was quite like Big Red, and you missed his calm stoicism and gentle kindness sorely.
As a linguist, you weren’t directly involved in the planning of the worldwide hunt for the enemy species, but your connection with the hunters who pursued them proved invaluable. Word had spread among them that you had saved Croc’s life, and because of that, you had gained a certain amount of honour and respect. They seemed to look to you as a spokesperson of truth and honour, ranking above your commanders in their estimation.
While that was flattering, it was also exhausting. You lived just off the base, but your days were long and the hours were not always sociable.
“So much for not being a diplomat,” you muttered again to yourself one night after you’d spent three hours in conversation with Red’s commander.
The female was intimidating, bullheaded, belligerent, and, you discovered after inadvertently cracking a joke when your exhaustion got the better of you, in possession of a wicked sense of humour.
You got along rather well after that, on the few occasions you spoke directly to her, and she took you off guard once by mentioning in passing that Big Red had been sent back to his people on Secundus to recover and was no longer under her direct command. Croc had been assigned to a new team as captain of his own ship.
You ached to know more than that about Red, but you didn’t dare ask her about him in front of a room full of top military personnel, and the only time you could speak to her was during top secret briefings and meetings about the crisis.
While you were managing to avoid looking like you had a pathetic crush on a Hunter, the world was busy organising an unprecedented cooperative effort to avoid being overrun by the black-carapaced enemy that had nearly eviscerated you in the woods that night. They acquired the name ‘shrikes’ for their tendency to display the carcasses of their dismembered victims, impaled on the nearest sharp object.
Soldiers from every continent were trained in the use of Hunter weapons and technology, sweeps of the planet were made, and eventually after nearly two years of humanity actually working together in a coordinated, international effort, it was determined that the shrikes which had stowed away on Hunter ships had been eliminated.
In those two years, you wrote papers and studied their language and writing system with the aid of various Hunters, both in person and via video-link, though the latter was much more common. The few Hunters who came to Earth came to hunt or share weaponry, not to play teacher to curious humans about other aspects of their culture. Although it was physically impossible for humans to produce most of the sounds of their language, you came to understand it pretty well, and remained on base as an official go-between for the increasingly rare occasion when in-person contact was made between the species.
“So much or not being a diplomat…”
You repeated your sarcastic little mantra yet again as you walked along the main road off the base late one winter night, heading home after an especially long day.
At least it had stopped raining about an hour earlier, though the cold, damp night pressed in on all sides, sneaking its icy fingers down your open collar. You reached up and absentmindedly ran your finger and thumb around the smooth contours of the bone amulet that hung as ever around your neck, and sighed a cloud of billowing vapour into the dark night.
You waved in response to a soldier as she called goodnight to your familiar face from her patrol, and you turned to take the route out past the airfield that stretched away around the back of the base. This would lead you through a narrow band of pines that bordered the perimeter of the whole base, and then on to the estate of identical, copy-paste houses that had been built for those who worked on-base but were not military personnel themselves.
Your eye was caught by the unexpected presence of a small, Hunter research ship sitting way off on the tarmac near the hangars, its gangplank down and with warm light spilling in a golden, watercolour wash over the wet ground.
It was the newest model from the same series of ships that Big Red and Croc had arrived in, and the outline of its smooth, familiar, arrowhead silhouette made your chest ache.
You hadn’t been aware that they were expecting any of the Hunters in person, and you frowned.
With a tired shrug though, you brushed it off. If they’d wanted you there for more talks, they’d have kept you back. It wouldn’t have been the first time you’d been forced to endure an all-nighter, even after the shrike threat had been deemed largely over, but the Hunters had automatic translation software now that allowed for direct verbal communication in real time. It sounded a little creepy and emotionless, but it meant that those Hunters who hadn’t mastered human languages could still be understood.
With another sigh, you kept walking, heading out of the back gate and calling another friendly farewell to the guards in their sentry boxes.
Adjusting your satchel on one shoulder where the strap was digging in, you slouched down the road, wondering whether there was actually anything edible in the fridge at home, and trying to decide if it would be considered dinner or breakfast at that time of night.
On the road at the edge of the housing estate, in the shadows just before the small cut-through that led to your street, you heard running footsteps behind you on the main road that led through the trees to the base.
You spun abruptly, wondering who was out there at that time of night. Perhaps you’d dropped something and one of the guards was running to catch up with you?
As you peered into the darkness however, the running pattern slowed to a jog and then to a near-silent walk, and you strained your eyes to see along the dark road between the dim street lights that lined it at distant intervals.
Far off, you could just make out the twin lights of the sentry boxes and the glow of the base beyond, but on the forest road you could see nothing but shadow between the street lamps.
Trying not to feel like the chump about to die horribly in a slasher movie, you cleared your throat and called, “Hello?”
At the sound of your voice, a tall figure moved in the dark and for a fleeting moment they were silhouetted against the lights and your heartbeat quickened. They were huge. Surely no one would dare mug someone who’d just left a highly-guarded military facility, would they?
Then, walking slowly towards you in the centre of the deserted road, the figure came to a halt beneath the nearest street light, watching you, and your breath caught.
Seven or so feet tall, wearing no more clothing than an armoured loincloth and a heavy duty belt, with long, unusually thin braids that flowed down from their large head, and with a bone-white mask covering their head, it was… it looked like…
It couldn’t be…
Could it?
“Red?” you whispered, swaying.
Standing twenty yards off, the figure nodded once and took half a step towards you.
You choked. “Red?”
He raised his hand and took off his mask, and you were running before his hand was back at his side.
Your bag slithered from your shoulder but you abandoned it in the road, not breaking stride, running, heart pounding. “Red!”
He lifted his arms a little way from his side just as you collided with him, and he grunted on impact. His mask dropped to the tarmac with a clatter.
Solid, cool, and unfathomably beautiful, it really was Big Red. You’d know him anywhere.
With your arms looped tightly around his middle, you held him so tightly he wheezed and then he clicked a fond little rebuke at you before swinging you around in a wild circle around him when he realised you weren’t going to let go of him.
His arms tightened around you when he set you down again, one hand cupping your head and the other stroking down your back, and he began to purr.
A series of rumbling, wheezing whines left him a second later, and beneath the solid frame of his chest, you discovered that he was shaking softly. He lowered his head, his thin ‘dreads’ falling in a veil around you, and he buried his face at your neck.
“Hey, it’s ok,” you said as tears rolled down your cheeks. His ‘dreads’ brushed across a couple and wiped them gently away as they wafted over your skin. “God, Red, is it really you? Is this really happening?”
He nodded but couldn’t seem to manage human speech just yet.
“Was that your ship I saw on the base just now? The fancy new model?”
Again, he nodded and didn’t pull back. It wasn’t until his body went stiff and he tensed, twitching and then bringing a slow, trembling, clawed hand up to your collarbones that you got any more reaction from him. Even over the layers of fabric, he traced a fingertip over the lump that was his bone amulet, and then he did draw back sharply.
With his mandibles softly parted in surprise, he stared down at you. “You… You still have it…” he croaked. “You… wear it.”
“Of course I do,” you frowned. “I only take it off to shower.”
For a heartbeat, he didn’t react, but then you found yourself crushed in a second hug, somehow even tighter and more frantic than the first. “I missed you so much,” he rasped. “I wasn’t sure if… if you would still think of me.”
“Red!” you practically yowled in outrage, though since your face was currently mashed against his chest, it sounded more like a disgruntled cat than a human. “Of course I do! How could I ever forget you?”
For a long time, the two of you just stood on the road and hugged, but eventually you grunted as your spine protested the angle, and Red straightened and let go of you.
You exhaled a long, steadying breath and then gave a weak laugh. “How long are you here for?”
Big Red gave a long, slow, rattling purr. “For a while,” he said. “With the threat of the creatures you call ‘shrikes’ eliminated, the High Council has agreed to station some of us here permanently as… ambassadors.”
Your eyes went wide and your heart soared. “You’re staying? Here?”
He nodded. “Two ships will be allowed to remain on this base. We will work with your kind on a number of technologies.”
“Holy shit,” you breathed, dizzy with disbelief. “You’re staying. And… And Croc? Is he with you too?”
Big Red laughed and nodded. “His ship is the second. He is due to land…” He checked his vambrace with a tap of his clawed finger, and chuckled again. “In one minute.”
“Holy shit,” you said again. “Let me get my bag,” you said, and you trotted away feeling like you were floating.
When you returned, Big Red was still standing there waiting for you, and he took the strap of your bag from your hand and slid it over his shoulder. “You are tired,” he said.
“Ugh, don’t tell me you can smell that,” you said with a cautious sniff of your armpit. “It’s been a really long day, ok? If you have a shower onboard that’s safe for humans, I’m going to abuse my privilege as your… friend and get into it.”
“Perhaps we can use it together,” Red shot back immediately, and you felt your whole body light up for the first time in a very long while.
When he chuckled and clicked something at you in his own language, you snorted in response. “Oh you bet I want you,” you said, and he flared his mandibles in surprise at your understanding. “I’ve wanted no one else since the last time you touched me.”
Red’s answering curses were colourful enough that it went beyond even your fairly extensive vocabulary, but you got the gist all the same and slid your hand into his, squeezing tightly. “I’m not sure if Croc will give me more grief for greeting him smelling like exhaustion or like sex. What do you think?”
Red shot you a knowing glance and you nodded.
Who were you kidding? He would give you hell either way.
You couldn’t wait.
Make It Count
Requested by @acing-dyslexia with prompt #16 from Sentence Prompts: "I'm going to beat you until you can't remember you're own name." "I'll give you one hit. You better make it good."
Pairing: Diego Hargreeves x reader
Genre: Fluff, Angst
Characters: Diego, Y/N
Description: Y/N is taken by an old enemy of Diego's and when he comes to their rescue, he makes the kidnapper pay.
Tumblr media
If you were honest with yourself, you expected to be kidnapped considering who your boyfriend was and who his family were. What you didn't expect, however, is to be kidnapped by somebody you knew.
You were sat in the middle of a darkened room, the only light coming from the small window at the side of you. Your wrists were sore and slightly bleeding from the constant writhing to get out of the ropes. Hearing footsteps coming closer to the door, you sat up straight and put on a stoic expression before your kidnapper entered the room.
"Hello, Y/N. How lovely to see you again." Your eyes widened as your childhood best friend stood in front of you. "Bradley? What the actual hell?!" He chuckled as he walked towards you and knelt down in front of you. "Well, Y/N, it turns out that your boyfriend and I have a rather large rivalry with each other. He keeps beating down my illegal dealings and to be honest, I've had enough."
You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion. "OK, let me get this straight. Diego is doing good in this world by taking down whatever illegal shit you're doing and you've decided to take me as a way to teach him a lesson?" Bradley smiled at you and tapped your cheek. "Well done, you're catching on." "Well, I want to know something. How did my sweet best friend turn into a full-on criminal mastermind?" He smirked at you and stood up. "That's a story for another day I'm afraid. It seems as though Diego has made his arrival."
A huge smirk spread across your face. "He is going to kick your ass. It was the worst mistake taking me." Bradley made his way behind you and wound a gag tight around your head before pointing a gun at your head. A loud scuffle sounded outside the door and a pang of happiness rang through your body. You weren't scared in the slightest, you knew what Diego was capable of and you knew that he wouldn't let Bradley hurt you.
The door swung open and Diego pushed one of the guards in, ripping his knife out of their chest. Spotting you in the middle of the room, his eyes widened a little but you nodded to signal that you were alright. "You have 3 seconds to move that gun away from their head before I beat the shit out of you."
Bradley pushed the gun further into the side of your head, making you wince a little. Diego growled and Bradley chuckled at how quickly he was getting to him. "Now, now Diego. No need for violence. I just want you to stop interfering with my work. It's getting really annoying and I need to live, ya know?"
"I wouldn't have to interfere if your work was legit but what you're doing is hurting people and it needs to stop. There is no way I'm going to let it carry on." Diego gripped the base of his knife tightly in his hand as he spotted Bradley moving further beside you. "Well, then, I suppose Y/N here will have to say goodbye won't they?" You heard the click of the gun right in your ear and you closed your eyes, knowing exactly what was about to happen.
Before Bradley could shoot Diego threw the knife at the gun and knocked it out of his hand, causing Bradley to stumble back in surprise. "I'm going to beat you until you can't remember you're own name." Diego stalked towards Bradley as if he were prey, a sinister smirk on his face. "I'll give you one hit. You better make it good." "Don't worry, it will be."
Diego swung his fist back and put all of his power into the punch, knocking Bradley completely off his feet and to the ground. Diego climbed on top of him and grabbed the scruff of his shirt. "If you ever touch Y/N again, or even think about them, I won't be so easy on you. I won't just beat your ass, I'll kill you. Understand?" Bradley nodded his head, clearly scared. Diego laughed before swinging his fist back and connected it with Bradley's face, knocking him out cold.
Diego got up and ran over to you, cutting your binds from your hands. You took the gag out of your mouth and smiled at your boyfriend, who offered you his hand to help you up. "You alright? Did he hurt you?" "No, but I did know him. Turns out he was my childhood best friend." Diego raised an eyebrow and shook his head. "I will never understand the things that go through these guys heads."
He kissed the side of your head, swung his arm over your shoulders, and walked you out of the building. "Wanna go for food? I'm starving." You rolled your eyes and chuckled before getting into your side of the car. "Trust you to be hungry after beating a guy."
Fictober 2023: Day 28: “I may not get another chance to say this.” - Sam isn't ready to say goodbye. Fandom: Scream Rating: T Warnings: None.
The mask staring down at her looks like all the others, yet all Tara can see is a smirk, wide and grinning and euphoric.
And why wouldn’t they be? They’ve won.
They’ve actually fucking won.
You’d think she’d be used to this by now, the pain that sets her veins alight, how hot blood is as it seeps out of the stab wound and over her desperate clutching fingers.
No amount of pressure is going to stem this tide when she has only her hands at her disposal.
She wishes her sister was here, Sam would know what to do. Sam always knows what to do.
Oh Sam.
She’s going to kill her.
This is going to kill her.
Tara shifts as her body slips a little further down the wall.
Fuck.
If she falls, that’s it, she knows it. She’ll never get back up again.
Ghostface knows it too.
They laugh at the pathetic sight before them.
It’s uncomfortably loud, reminding her just how alone they are. How there’s no one to help her. No one to save her, not this time.
“Where are my manners?” they drawl, modulated voice controlled and calm.
An act. It’s only ever an act.
Some sociopath pretending to be a master of their own fate… or hers, until something goes wrong and the screaming child comes out to play.
She wishes it would, then she might have some sort of chance.
“Here,” they say, holding out a hand.
In their gloves palm sits her phone, screen flashing with notifications.
It feels too good to be true.
This is just another game, another way to toy with her.
Ghostface throws it at her feet.
There’s a crack, but the screen continues to light up with a fresh fracture down the middle.
All she can do is stare at it, tears welling in her eyes in frustration. It’s so close, but it feels a million miles away. She can’t bend down to reach it, she can only…
“Condemned prisoners get a last meal, don’t they? Well, I think we’re a little past that, so how about a phone call instead?”
Fall.
She drops to her knees, blood-slick hands uncoordinated and clumsy as they try to grip at her phone and answer the current call, Sam’s smiling face lighting up the screen.
“Sam!” she cries, falling forward, as the call clicks open.
She can barely breathe, through the pain, the dizziness, the relief.
“Tara? Tara where the hell are you?! We’re all worried sick, why the hell haven’t you been answering your phone?”
It’s all she can do to sob into the speaker, Sam’s frantic voice fading to a background noise as her vision blackens for a moment.
“Sam. Sam listen. Please listen.”
She pauses, breathing heavily, as the buzzing quiets.
“I may not get another chance to say this.”
Sam tries to interject, but Tara can’t wait. She doesn’t have time to comfort Sam right now.
“I forgive you.”
Tara squeezes her eyes shut. Somehow the tears burn worse than the blood.
Sam’s been asking for forgiveness ever since she returned into her life, and Tara’s never hesitated to give it. She didn’t need to hear that there was nothing to forgive, she needed to know she was forgiven, for whatever crimes it is that lurk in her mind.
Who’s going to absolve her sister now?
The thought hurts so much worse than any stab wound.
“Tara, where are you? Please, just tell me where you are.”
“I don’t know, I don’t know Sam, I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m–”
Tara screams as a boot slams down onto her hand, crushing the phone beneath it, glass and plastic splintering against her skin.
“Oops,” Ghostface hums, stepping back and tilting their head at her. “I’m so sorry, I’m so clumsy sometimes.”
She curls into a ball, one hand plastered against her stomach wound, the other clenched against her chest, wishing he would just shut up.
Inside her a part of her screams, telling her to turn around, to look at them, to never turn your back on an enemy.
It’s an easy thing to ignore, she’s been ignoring her own mind for years.
What more can this asshole do to her? She’s dying. Slowly. Just the way they designed it.
“Don’t worry, Tara,” the voice coos, a hand petting against her head. “You won’t have to die alone, I’ll be right here with you.”
For the first time in her life, she wishes she was alone again.
Across the city, Sam stares down at her phone at the call ended screen. It takes a few seconds to process.
The moment she does, she’s spinning around.
“Did you get it?”
“I got it, let’s go,” Kirby replies.
I’m coming for you Tara, she promises. Just hold on.
TBAGG theory
Ok I got inspired by @bladenotblaze so heres my theory on the battle at gardens gate!!
1. Heat Above: this song sets the scene on a utopia of sorts. A world of peace. However, there’s something wrong, there’s an undertone of unrest, and we hear that in the line “can you hear that dreadful sound, fires still burning on the ground)”.
2. My way, soon: this is an introduction to our character, someone who has something to prove. They are reckless and wild, and they live life to the fullest (I’ve sacked the rules, so I don’t have to heed them). They know the government is being slowly infiltrated by the enemy, so they begin a small, tiny, revolution.
3. Broken bells: war has officially been announced, and everyone is saying goodbye to those leaving for war. Our character is a bit solemn, but they have hope still. So do most of the people, a hope that their loved ones come back home (between the cracks of sidewalks there’s a flower grown, beyond the stone). They hate the sick, twisted game of war, but they can’t help the world they live in (not all the answers are the same, yet we still play the game).
4. Built by nations: the character is now forced into war, with a bunch of people who hate them (he is bound to brothers built by nations, with no pride to call his own). They’re forced to be by themselves, like they’ve always been. But in a time of war, they wish they would have a helping hand.
5. Age of machine: even as they have grown, somewhat wild and reckless, the world the character knew was actually quite sheltered. They never left the city walls, staying inside and wreaking havoc. All the other people have been toughened by seeing the horrors of the outside world. this song is telling the character to toughen up in order to survive (Now you’re free, unplug from the source, no more under scores, open up the doors).
Tears of rain: back in their home city, it’s fallen into despair. Their enemies have taken over, they’re no longer free. They are all asking for peace, hope, and for some sort of a sign it will be ok (and the mothers with their children, search for the rain). And at the very end of the song, there’s a small rumble of thunder, answering their prayers, and telling us it might be ok.
Stardust chords: the people in the Garden have lost some hope. They feel everything is going wrong, but some are still have a feeling it’ll be alright (roses in the bush, cut down at the Gardens gate, it was too late, so much has fallen). But later, we see that they begin to fight back. They want to be free, so they have an uprising, and this signals the beginning of the end to the war (from the bowing earth, uprises the weeds of war, caving the floor, a renaissance born).
Light my love: a few people have become friends with our hero. They share stories by a fire, and one shares their thoughts of the war. Of what may happen after. They tell a story of peace, tolerance, and of their hope for the future far to come. ( I have seen pictures of time, frames still in motion I find, a grand revolution outlined, hate bound by fear will unwind. Your mind is a stream of colors, extending beyond our sky, a land of infinite wonders, a billion light years from here now).
Caravel: as the people board ships to finally head to the battlefield, they realize our hero is the one who started this revolution. They must be the person to save them all (you make the movement, ooh). Everyone is finally beginning to understand why they’re doing this, and they side with the savior, our hero. These people are willing to do whatever it takes to save the Garden (for death or glory, ooh, bow with your face to the sky, yeah, we are a movement, ooh).
The barbarians: it’s the final day. The army will march up to the Garden and fight for their freedom. They begin to put on their armor, and they all begin to see how much this will actually change them (funeral of innocence, woah, painted up in the red, and dressed in lead). The savior is having a moment alone. They understand now how their father felt in war. He was the exact same as the savior, wild and reckless. And theyre realizing neither them nor their father knew what they were getting into when going into this fight (were your young so spry, when they left to die?).
Trip the light fantastic: this song is their last prayer for peace. As they make their way to the Garden, they begin to sing. They sing a prayer of peace and harmony(ah, Sri ram jayam, ram ram ram ram ram). It is their last resort before going into the battle. This is the end, and it id their last sliver of hope. And they help the savior realize they are the reason everyone is here. The savior helped get them there, and they could have a chance of winning this war (you are the land, the sea and the sky, woah, the explanation why, we’re tied to all things as one).
The weight of dreams (this one’s a long one strap in folks): it’s the final stretch before they make it onto the battle field. They see it up ahead, dark and shrouded in black clouds. The warrior traveled all the way here, in order to find answers and to get freedom for their city. The army believes that some God sent them to help them, to make them truly see. (All across the west we’ve traveled wayward for, find the weight of dreams in gold, heaven sent us here to meet the hallowed shore, to claim the wealth that we had sold).
The army realizes how wrong they were this whole time, how brainwashed they were. It hits them hard, and they begin to lock into this mindset of “I’ve been so wrong this whole time, and this is how I have to fix it”.
The army has forsaken everything they should’ve stood for, this is how they plan to fix it. They want to fight for good, lead like the warrior is, and repay their old leaders. They could instantly turn back to their old ways, but none of them do. They understand right from wrong now. (We stole from her a cloak of studded majesty, the queen is dead we robbed her grave, you could still bathe in the river but it ran dry, and all of us have turned away).
Then, we see the enemy approaching. It is almost time. They’re coming over fast, and with fury. All of a sudden, a wave of a small, gut wrenching reality check comes in for warrior. This is it. They can’t turn back. The world goes quiet for a moment, and as they come back in, the Battle at Gardens Gate has begun. (4:30-4:56).
It’s a flurry of swords, axes, and other weapons. Clangs and screams of agony are everywhere, we can’t escape it. The enemy begins to take the upper hand for a moment, but the Peaceful Army is determined. They are strong, especially the warrior. But the warrior is slowly regretting it all. Midway through sparring with the enemies Leader, the warrior is doubting themself. A glint shines in the enemies eye. And the warrior realizes what this is all for. They’ve gone this far, gone through an earth shattering change, and to give it all up just because it’s a little overwhelming? No. They couldn’t. They mustn’t Even if they die, they must somehow win this war (5:30-6:41).
The warrior quickens their pace. Their sword slices through the air with a masterful grace. The enemy is struggling to keep up, but they push through and fight harder. The warrior sees the struggle. They use it, abuse this power against the enemy. Slowly but surely, the enemy weakens. The enemy moves slower and slower, and eventually, finally, the warrior lands the killing strike. (6:43-7:09).
This gives the army an upper hand. They begin to surround the enemy. Blow after blow, the army is merciless. They’ve been on a journey to get here. If they lose, all hope is lost. The enemies forces pare down, and Gardens Gate begins to open. Everyone inside makes their way out as they watch the people who have mistreated them, abused them, and even murdered some of them, begin to suffer their consequences (7:19-8:26).
The battle has reached its end, and the warrior makes their way to cliff over looking the Garden. They mark their victory with a single red flag, the flag of their home, on the small outcropping. The battlefield is stained with blood, a gruesome sight. But as the clouds slowly open up, a sliver of sun light shines through onto the Garden (8:27-8:51).
The war has been won, but at what cost?
