How Solomon is fairing (Obey me Nightbringer)

Note: It's been a while since I wrote something Obey me related. The new game got me in a chokehold and then at the same time Starrail got released! I guess I'll genshin later.

Everyone is talking about how the brothers feel about your sudden disappearance but what about how Solomon feels?

Solomon who…

is torn between waiting for at Cocytus hall and wanting to pick you up from the House of Lamentation. Eventually he'll just go out after you go attend your duties, visit Simeon, and hope that he runs to you after the day.

Solomon who…

knows that you're capable and powerful enough but can't help but worry because you were both at a disadvantage.

Solomon who…

misses the warmth of Purgatory Hall and tries his hardest for Cocytus hall to feel the same. Sure he sees Simeon and Luke whenever he visits HOL but can't help but feel the invisible barriers that sets him apart from the two. He can't help but miss playing games with Luke and miss Simeon's nagging when he doesn't come down or when he misses his meals.

Solomon who…

misses the brothers from the original timeline. From time to time they get into fights but unlike this timeline where the two of you are thrown in, he can't help but also walk on eggshells given that they are not the same brothers before. He won't admit it but he also misses Diavolo, Barbatos, and the rest of the new exchange students.

Solomon who…

wonders if Thirteen already noticed that you and his presence are missing in the timeline. Maybe if she notices it and then she will be able to help the two of you to go home.

Solomon who…

tells you to be careful but always risks his immortal life to make new connections, gather information, and make backup plans in case you two suddenly need to run.

Solomon who…

has healing magic always active on his non dominant hand and combative magic on the other in case some entity suddenly appears.

Solomon who…

already made a routine of getting up at night to check on you in case you have nightmares. He knew that the comfort of the House of Lamentation is different from the new environment that is Cocytus Hall. The new home is not secured as the Purgatory Hall from the original timeline. It doesn't have the spells he carved around the house to make him sleep easy at night.

Solomon who…

burns most of his grimm on take outs because he knows his cooking is not the best and he doesn't want you slaving on a stove after a long day of working as an attendant.

Solomon who…

knows that once the two of you come back to the original timeline, will be the one to blame for the shenanigans because of his shady deals.

Solomon who…

wishes that he can just approach Barbatos about the time anomaly and the situation the two of you are in but can't because doing so will make a paradox that might end up harming you and the others.

Solomon who…

knows that his intentions on helping and protecting are pure but can't help but despises himself because he thinks that he's using the situation as a leverage to be closer to your heart.

Lucifer

Lucifer sighed as he turned down the final hall of their home. Why did the House of Lamentation have to have so many hallways?

He had been in a very long meeting with Lord Diavolo. Discussing current events in the Devildom, the school, and of course the exchange program. His prince was always interested in how the selected were doing. And although Lucifer didn’t really care how the angels or Solomon were doing, he could report that [Y/N] was doing very well.

Reaching his room, he opened the door and shrugged off his cloak. Feeling a metaphorical weight come off, along with the real one, as it slumped to the floor.

He was on his way to change and take a shower when he noticed someone on his bed. It was [Y/N]. Of course it was. No one else would dare enter his room if he wasn’t there. They must have come in and waited to surprise him, but he had arrived too late.

A soft smile, a mix of heart warming and sad, came to his face as he looked at them. He then came over and pet their hair. “It’s good to see you too, my love. I’ll be right back.”

[Y/N] didn’t wake up as he spoke, but did move a little in some sort of unconscious acknowledgement. He then continued on with the task of showering and changing. Maybe he was working a little too hard afterall.

Mammon

“Ouch!” Mammon cursed as he bounced off one of the walls.

Another successful night of debauchery for the scummiest brother. Gambling, drinking, cruising hot demons at the club, more drinking. He’d finally reached his fill (or more to the point: puked) and decided to go home. Because despite what his credit card statements said he could not, in fact, live in the club.

He finally made it into his room. Immediately starting to strip out of his clothes. Leaving a trail from the door to his bed. He got down to his shorts just as he was about to swan dive in, when he noticed [Y/N] there. He was surprised, then trying to think of why they were there. His alcohol soaked brain tried to think of something, but the only thing he could think of was that they had waited for him.

Suddenly his stomach felt heavy; and not just from the impending nausea. [Y/N] had been waiting for him. For what, he didn’t know, and it really didn’t matter. They had waited for him. And he had been out drinking and gambling with a bunch of losers, who didn’t even care enough to hold up his head when he got sick.

Mammon suddenly felt like actually the scummiest brother, then turned to head towards the couch. Besides the fact that he stunk, which didn’t matter to him but might to [Y/N], he didn’t feel he deserved to sleep next to them and slept on the couch.

He woke up the next morning to [Y/N] petting his head and asking if he was alright. He then decided he wasn’t going to the club anymore. He didn’t need it.

Levi

“I got it! I got it! I got it! I got it!” Levi cheerfully chanted as he ran up the stairs and towards his room.

He had been at the midnight release of his new game, Paradox Spheres. A muti-level, muti-dimension, multi-timeline RPG game where the main character travels through rips in time & space to save the universe. He had to have it.

Levi had been camping out since lunch, like any good otaku, to get a good spot for the release. His hours of waiting, then hours of waiting in the queue up, finally paying off when he got one! Number 134 was always a lucky number for him.

“[Y/N]! I got it! I got it!” The demon exclaimed as he burst through the door. Holding his new game up like a trophy.

His enthusiasm, however, was not matched as he found [Y/N] asleep on his bed. The real one, not his bathtub.

Levi moved to check his watch and see how late it was. He’d gotten the game, but at what cost? [Y/N] was understandably out just waiting for him to come back. Not here to revel in the joy with him.

The demon sighed and placed his game on his dresser. He didn’t want to play it anymore. Without [Y/N] it wasn’t fun anymore.

He instead booted up one of his older games to play that. He wasn’t tired. Being a seasoned otaku, and running on game grab adrenaline, this time of night was nothing to him. He would just have to wait until [Y/N] woke up to start his new game.

Satan

The sound of pages turning filled the room as Satan furiously read page after page.

He had planned to go to bed a while ago, telling [Y/N] he would be there in a minute, but just after that he had reached a very interesting part in his book and couldn’t stop. Satan had to see how it ended otherwise he would be plague with regret and anxiety on what could happen all night.

Finally, he reached the end with a satisfying conclusion. Closed the book. Then leaned back with a contented sigh. If only for a moment.

“Shit.” He cursed as he realized how late it was and rushed to his room.

It was too late though. [Y/N] was already asleep. Clearly reading on their own to try and stay away before sleep took them. Satan felt bad. He had promised he would be up soon and broke it. Leaving them alone and waiting for him all evening.

Carefully coming over to the bed, Satan picked up their book and placed a crisp, new bookmark in their place before he moved them over a little and slide in beside them. “I’m sorry dearest.” He apologized before kissing their forehead. Surely they would understand it was a good book though.

Asmo

“Annnnd…done!” Asmo let out a little giggle as he finished his skin care regiment for the night and bounced off to bed. “Ok [Y/N]~! I’m ready to snuggle up and….” The demon’s cheerfulness waned when they saw that [Y/N] was a sleep on the bed. Looking like an angel he would know.

Asmo pouted seeing them asleep. He thought they would wait up for him, so they could gab and do…other stuff. His skin care regiment was only 21 steps. Surely they could wait up for him to be done with that!?

Being petty, Asmo walked over to the other side of the bed and flopped down. Intentionally being forceful and loud as possible with his tuck in process to hopefully wake them. They did not. He pouted again and rolled over to get some sleep. Good thing he used his advanced anti-wrinkle cream on his mouth & brow tonight.

Beelzebub

Beel hit his stopwatch as he came back to the front gate and gave a little cheer. A new personal best.

He hadn’t been able to sleep, or felt like he was going to be able to get to sleep, while he and [Y/N] were getting ready for bed. So, he decided to go for a run. [Y/N] told him that was ok, and they would wait up for him, but he told them it was ok if they didn’t.

Making his way upstairs, two at a time, Beel came into the room quietly and sure enough, [Y/N] was asleep. He didn’t feel bad that they hadn’t stayed up. He wasn’t sure how long he was going to run for, when he would be back, and he knew that they had been sleepy when he left. It was his problem he couldn’t sleep, not theirs.

Beel came over and kissed the top of their head before he went to get some new pajamas to change into. He was obviously sweaty now, so he needed a shower.

When he got back he curled up with [Y/N] and immediately went to sleep. Finally tired, and contented to be with [Y/N].

Belphie

He’d woken up from one of his naps in the middle of studying to find [Y/N], still working, before he got up and announced, “I need some water.” His mouth was very dry.

Belphie heard their response, which sounded tired if he was paying attention, before he went downstairs to get said water. By the time he came back, all the way up in the attic, [Y/N] had fallen asleep. Their pen still in their hand.

The demon paused and observed the situation for a moment. This was an odd experience for him. Usually, people walked in on him asleep. Not the other way around.

Belphie smiled at being on the other side for once and crawled into bed. “[Y/N], move over.” He urged. Gently pushing them to make space, but also put them in the position he wanted to lay down. He then curled up with [Y/N], smelling their hair, and immediately fell asleep like usual. This was a very nice surprise.

I don't think Giorno harbored any grudge against Fugo for staying at the docks tbh.

Bucciarati wanted to leave all of them there in the first place, until Giorno convinced him to explain the situation so that *maybe* the others would join them. At worst, Giorno might've been disappointed after Fugo's "i super respect you now" speech, but I don't think anyone in that boat was angry at a 15 year old for wanting to not die.

By the way, Fugo's "You have my respect" speech from Pompeii? It's echoed by Giorno when Narancia joined the boat.

Giorno didn't have to risk himself to save Fugo in Pompeii, yet was determined to against all odds anyway. And now Narancia, who's Reasonably Very Scared, decided to risk his life as well. Like Fugo did, Giorno respects the hell out of Narancia's resolve.

Fugo wouldn't have blamed Giorno for running. I don't think Giorno would blame Fugo or Narancia for running either.

Not everyone can go out on a limb. Giorno understood this, which was why he put himself in danger in front of everyone else. He stayed in Pompeii to get them all out alive, he volunteered only himself to scout Capri, he sacrificed arm and limb literally constantly. Giorno understands he can't control the choices of others, so he takes initiative himself instead and welcomes those who join him.

We contrast him with Diavolo, someone who threw people under the bus in front of him constantly. People who chose otherwise were traitors and earned his wrath. Even Doppio, who he shared a body with, wasn't safe from being exploited. I think Araki was trying to show that Diavolo's willingness to sacrifice others ultimately harms him. Giorno's willingness to sacrifice himself for others aids him-- it's a paradox, and Giorno and Diavolo are on opposite ends of it.

It plays again into the theme of fate in Part 5. Diavolo claims to be the king of fate, that all are destined to bend to him. Giorno respects the choices of others, and takes on the responsibilities of his ambitions himself. He admires those who willingly choose the hard road of good, and yet I believe he is compassionate towards those who do not as long as they don't harm.

This is why Giorno is so ruthless towards his enemies. No one can escape fate. And yet no one is fated to make any one choice. No one is fated to do good or evil. And if someone so willfully chooses to perpetuate harm, then Giorno has nothing but contempt for them. "I was fated to be this way" was never an excuse.

Idk I just feel like it’d be infinitely more funny if past!Solomon were to show up in nightbringer not knowing MC and current!Solomon has to just dip to avoid causing a time paradox or whatever and Diavolo, or Barbatos, or the brothers address MC as his apprentice and past!Solomon is like “I’m sorry???? Tattoo Artist!Barbatos Headcanons

Tattoo Artist Barbatos

note: this has basically spiraled into an au that includes some like mob elements I think?? Idk i just work here and don’t really get paid. I've been drinking these might not make sense but here you go

Covered in tattoos (of course) but always wears long sleeves so you don’t know the extent of how tatted he is until you see him in a short sleeved shirt. You can see the hand tattoos when he’s not wearing gloves and what’s on his neck but his arms, chest, and legs?? Total mystery.

Has the CLEANEST shop. It’s decorated in a vintage fashion, dark teal walls with black wood flooring and trim. His walls are covered in art consisting of tattoo flash pages, completed tattoo photos, and his own personal art.

Also just has snacks at the ready. Homemade and store bought (but his homemade snacks are always on demand). His tea is always ready for anyone who wants it.

Speaking of, all of his consultations are done over a cup of tea and after his clients finish their tattoos he invites them to sit with some tea to relax a bit before they go on their way. Drinking tea out of a straw should be a crime anywhere else but for a tattoo client he’ll allow it (but only for his favorites, read: diavolo).

His shop is probably called something like paradox.

He definitely has like the clock tattoo but on him it looks so fucking good. Also has knuckle tats, and neck tats, and some roses somewhere on his torso somewhere.

His shop is like a second office for Diavolo and Lucifer, and whatever possibly illegal things those two are orchestrating around town. If anyone asks, he has a fun little smirk and is excellent at playing dumb when he has to.

Still is always looking out for Diavolo when and however he can.

Bittersweet

I had to write a story about Barbatos in Nightbringer. I love him so much I couldn't possibly stop myself. This is written from MC’s perspective so we still don’t know how much Barb does or does not know about MC’s time travel situation.

MC had an established relationship with Barbatos in the present day, so when they travel back in time and he doesn't know them, they have a hard time with it. Obviously I'm very interested in this particular aspect of Nightbringer. There shouldn't be any spoilers, though.

GN!MC x Barbatos

Warnings: just some angst as described above

The first time you saw Barbatos after arriving in the past, your chest constricted. It was painful to know that you were only a stranger to him now. It occurred to you that he knew more than he let on, but you weren't about to ask him and risk causing a time paradox. So you had to continue acting as though you didn't know him, that you didn't already love him, that you hadn't already spent the best moments of your life in his arms.

You did your best. Most of the time, you were busy keeping track of the brothers and working as their attendant. Your thoughts were mostly occupied by the need to reforge your pacts so that you could return to your own time. So that you could return to the time when he did know you.

You couldn't help yourself, though. You had this need to be near him. So you found yourself sneaking around the Demon Lord's Castle whenever you had a spare moment. You usually only caught a glimpse of him from a distance. It was never enough, but it helped if only a little.

You had been curious about what Barbatos was like here in the past, but so far he seemed almost exactly the same - reserved and completely loyal to Lord Diavolo. Aside from not knowing you, the only other difference was the problem he seemed to have with Solomon.

You had no idea how he felt about you now and most likely you would never know. It wasn't like you could just go ask him. He might not have any opinion at all and maybe he actively disliked you considering you were Solomon's apprentice.

None of this mattered. You just wanted to see him. To be in his proximity. Even if you knew that skulking around the castle made you seem extremely creepy.

You just didn't have a real reason to be at the castle and you didn't feel like you could just drop in to say hi. It wasn't like that anymore… or it wasn't like that yet? You shoved those thoughts aside. Thinking about time travel too much gave you a headache.

So there you were one evening on the castle grounds, trying to hide behind some rose bushes, when you heard a devastating screech right at your feet.

You jumped, nearly falling over.

Little D No 2 was wriggling on the ground. "Ooooww! You stepped on me!"

You reached toward him. "Oh I'm sorry, little guy, I didn't know you were there! Are you okay?"

Little D No 2 managed to straighten himself out. "Maybe watch where you're stepping next time, huh? What are you doing out here in the bushes, anyway? You're acting real suspicious!"

You grimaced. "I know. I'm sorry. I'll leave."

You turned to go, but Little D No 2 tugged on your ankle. "Hey, it's okay! Don't look so sad. Maybe I can help? Are you in trouble or something? Are you hiding?"

"N-no," you said. "I'm not in trouble. Don't worry about it, I'll just leave."

"Now I'm even more suspicious," Little D No 2 said. "I better go get Mr. Barbatos!"

"NO!" you cried out, grabbing him. "No, don't do that, please!"

Little D No 2 kicked his legs in irritation as you were holding him a little bit above the ground now. "Hey! Put me down! You just keep acting weirder and weirder!"

"Listen, I was just passing through, okay?" you said. "I'll just go on home now, so you don't need to go get anyone. I promise I'm not doing anything bad!"

"If that's true, why not just tell me what you're doing then?" Little D No 2 said. "Nobody crouches in bushes if they're just passing through!"

You had to admit that he had a point. You sighed. "I just… wanted to see Barbatos, that's all." You felt the heat rushing into your cheeks.

Little D No 2 stopped kicking his feet. "Huh? But you just said you didn't want me to get Mr. Barbatos. And if you wanted to see him, why didn't you just come in and ask for him? Why creep around the garden?"

"It's complicated," you said.

Little D No 2 opened his mouth, about to say something, but then he looked over your shoulder and started squirming again. "Mr. Barbatos! Help!"

You straightened up and spun around to see Barbatos standing nonchalantly behind you. You dropped Little D No 2 in your surprise.

He yelled, "Oof!" as he hit the ground, then scampered over to hide behind Barbatos.

"Oh um, sorry, I was just leaving," you said quickly, looking around for the best escape route.

Barbatos smiled, but it was not at all reassuring. "Good evening, MC. May I inquire into why you are manhandling Little D No 2 out here in the bushes?"

Oh boy. You might not have been in trouble before, but you certainly were now. You clasped your hands together. "Um… well, it's just…"

"They wanted to see you, Mr. Barbatos!" Little D No 2 piped up helpfully. "But they were being really weird about it!"

Barbatos looked surprised. "Oya. If you wanted to see me, why not come inside the castle?"

"That's what I said!" Little D No said.

"Um," you said, not willing to explain further.

"What is it you need of me?" Barbatos asked.

You couldn't look at him. "That's just it. I don't actually need anything."

There was a long silence. You could feel Barbatos observing you, thoughtful.

Little D No 2 jumped up and down a little. "What! Just when I thought you couldn't get weirder!"

"Little D No 2, please go back inside the castle," Barbatos said.

Little D No 2 saluted as best he could with his little arms. "Yes, sir!"

As he scuttled away, Barbatos continued to look at you with a piercing gaze. "I would like you to explain yourself, please."

What could you say? You couldn't tell him the truth. And this was Barbatos. He would likely be able to tell if you lied to him. Certainly that's already what he was expecting of you. Barbatos was a master at not revealing his thoughts, but you were sure he found you especially suspicious right now.

You frowned, eyes still on the ground, and settled for telling as much of the truth as you could. Even if it made you sound crazy. "I'm sorry," you began. "I wanted to see you because I just… wanted to see you. And I thought it would be a really strange thing for me to show up here saying I just wanted to be with you. I mean, we're basically strangers. But there's just something about you… I…"

You trailed off, unable to say anything more as you felt yourself creeping too close to the truth. You could also feel the burn of your cheeks. You looked up and you knew Barbatos could see your blush even though it was dark out.

Barbatos regarded you quietly for a few agonizing minutes. Then he smiled again. And this time, you felt your heart flutter as you recognized his genuine smile. It was the one you had seen so many times before - equal parts fondness and indulgence.

Having seemingly decided that your garden activities were mostly harmless, Barbatos extended a gloved hand to you. "I see," he said. "In that case, why not join me for a cup of tea?"

Your eyes widened. "Really? You don't mind?"

Barbatos chuckled. "I would not have offered if I did."

You tried not to let the happiness brimming inside you show on your face. You schooled your expression as best you could and took his hand. "I would love to have tea with you."

Barbatos led you into the castle and to a small table set up beside a window overlooking the garden. He let go of your hand and pulled out a chair for you.

The tea was already made. In fact, it looked as though Barbatos had been sitting here drinking it when he noticed you and Little D No 2 out in the bushes. If you had been undisturbed, you probably would have seen him through the window, which was really all you had hoped for. Now you were inside with him and you silently thanked Little D No 2 for getting stepped on.

Barbatos left you for a moment and then returned with a second tea cup. He poured some for you and handed it over.

"You were having tea by yourself?" you asked, taking a sip.

"The Young Master is working, as he should be," Barbatos said. "And I had a moment to take a short break."

"You always seem to be busy," you said. "You don't take breaks like this very often, do you?"

You already knew the answer to this, but you had to make it sound like you didn't know Barbatos as well as you did. You wondered again if Barbatos was actually fully aware that you were from the future. If anyone in the past did, it would be him. Still it wasn't as though you could ask him. It was just too risky. So you did your best to make it sound like you really had just met him recently.

"There is always more to be done and I would rather be productive than idle," Barbatos said.

Well, there was no doubt that Barbatos was the same in the past as he was in the future. Other than his inexplicable hatred for Solomon, he was the same demon you knew and loved. This made it both easier and harder to be around him.

"You're really okay with me being here?" you asked. "You know, since I'm Solomon's apprentice and all… I know you aren't particularly fond of him."

Barbatos laughed softly. "I don't hold it against you," he said. "You are not responsible for your teacher's actions."

You smiled in relief. Then you started asking him questions about tea and the Devildom just so you could listen to the steady cadence of his voice. You felt yourself lulled into a sense of ease, the same feeling of contentment that caused you to fall in love with him in the first place.

It had already been evening when you were discovered in the bushes and soon it was even later. Barbatos looked at you pointedly. "It's rather late, MC. Certainly you should return to Cocytus Hall before your teacher comes looking for you."

"Oh," you said, looking at the time. "It's later than I thought. Yeah, I guess I should go."

You stood up from the table, which Barbatos had already cleared of the tea things, and made your way back toward the castle entrance.

You paused at the door and Barbatos stood beside you, watching you.

You looked at him, wanting to say so many things, but holding it all inside. Trying to keep those words in your heart made your chest squeeze with pain. If you weren't careful, you would give yourself away. You looked back at the door.

"Thank you, Barbatos," you said, eyes on the ground. "This was really nice and I appreciate you inviting me in after I was being so weird earlier."

Barbatos reached out, put his fingertips beneath your chin, and turned your face so you were looking at him. "You said before that there is something about me, but there is something about you, too. I will be honest, MC. I am interested in learning more about you, even if you are apprenticed to that disgrace of a sorcerer."

You were too overwhelmed by Barbatos's close proximity to laugh at the way he casually insulted Solomon. "Oh, then maybe we can have tea together again?" you suggested.

Barbatos smiled, letting his hand fall away from your face. "I would enjoy that immensely." He opened the door for you.

You stepped outside then looked back at him. He was still smiling, that genuine smile that gave you butterflies. "Good night, MC," he said.

"Good night, Barbatos," you said. You turned away as the door closed, walking fast through the Devildom night toward Cocytus Hall. Your heart was racing. It didn't matter when you encountered him, you knew Barbatos would always have this effect on you. Even if he didn't know you. Even if you had to keep secrets from him. Even if now this feeling was bittersweet.

I think Nightbringer is also working as a kind of soft reboot for the series to help fix the continuity errors in the original game.

Well, while we do see Nightbringer as sort of a soft reboot for the series, we're not entirely sure about it fixing the continuity errors in the original, considering all of the retcons they've introduced in the new game, including some that ... don't really make sense.

(spoilers for Nightbringer under the cut)

One of the biggest retcons they've done is that RAD didn't exist before the Great Celestial War. In the original game, The Glory Days Devilgram story shows RAD did exist, albeit newly, as it is the topic of conversation for when Diavolo and Lucifer first officially met (while Lucifer was still an angel). It was actually an important reason for Lucifer starting to change his opinion on demons and gaining respect for Diavolo. In Nightbringer, they've changed it so that RAD is proposed after the fall. We wonder if they'll talk more about pre-Celestial War relations in this timeline and how that went down, or if it's something that won't really be brought up...

Another big "retcon" is suddenly having Simeon and Luke living in the Devildom during this time, when the original game made it clear that the exchange program was Luke's first time ever interacting with demons. We're going to explain that away that all of this is a branch in the timeline, because there would already be some major implications for present-day with all that's gone on in the past. Solomon might have warned of time paradoxes, but that line was crossed the moment MC got thrown back into the past. 🙃 And we already know different timelines exist in the OM universe thanks to Season 1, so is there even such a thing as a time paradox in this case if it's just created a whole new timeline in the first place? Plus Solomon is also fucking around in this time, so shut up, old man ❤️.

Then there's also the big glaring alternate-timeline "retcon" change in MC's whole role here, which seems to involve resolving major issues and tension points long before they boil over in the original. We see Belphegor's blaming of humans on full display super early on, and Solomon blatantly calls out Lucifer's loyalty deal with Diavolo in front of the brothers (though without the info on what the deal was for), something which the brothers had no idea about in Season 1.

There are also some more minor retcons as well -- in the original, Satan has emphasized that wanting to be recognized for more than just wrath, especially being Lucifer's wrath, is a big reason why he became so thirsty for knowledge and books, yet here he's already quite into books even while he's still basically just a ball of wrath. Plus, for some reason, Belphie and Satan are already pranking Lucifer all the time, even though canonically Belphegor only joins Satan against Lucifer as the "Anti-Lucifer League" after being locked in the attic. His bio in the original game literally mentions, "Until a certain incident took place, he respected Lucifer the most among his brothers." In the Hatred Devilgram, he outright says their relationship wasn't always like this, and it flashes back to him heaping praise on Lucifer. Yet in Nightbringer, Levi has already referred to them as the Anti-Lucifer League -- and contrasting even that, Belphegor actually doesn't show that much animosity towards Lucifer really at all so far, except for these random prank mentions.

So yeah, there's a range of things they've changed here. Whether any of this will stay consistent moving forward in this Alternate Universe (because really, that's what it is at this point) remains to be seen.

Nightbringer theories (Obey Me; SPOILERS!)

Alrighty so I decided to play Nightbringer after being scared of it for the past few weeks; so far, I have some questions and theories in mind. I’m still on Lesson 8 so I’m not sure if most of my theories here are gonna be right or just straight up wrong.

Questions & Theories:

- Since Solomon came with us to the past (or more like came to the past to come aid for our ass), wouldn’t there be a chance the Solomon from THAT timeline/past meet the present Solomon we know of? Wouldn’t this create a whole time paradox….?

- Lilith’s body got disappeared by Diavolo so that she can get reincarnated as a human; would there be a chance we get to see her reincarnated form at least if we don’t see her angel form? Also, reminder that Lucifer is the only brother who knows she got reincarnated, so most likely the other 6 brothers will have a huge fucking melt down like last time in the previous Obey Me game.

- When the game first started, we hear Solomon narrating a bit about Barbatos and this human Barbatos went to. Solomon used they/them pronouns for the human, at first, I thought it might be us/MC—but then it occurred to me, why would the devs only now reveal our/MC’s appearance and the timeline that Barbatos met this human must’ve been a very very long time. Either 1. They used they/them pronouns for the human to keep their identity hidden until revealed later on 2. The human is either one of our ancestors/related to Lilith’s reincarnated form or 3. This human might be a Biblical figure from the Bible; if you go to the official Obey Me Instagram; they illustrated Barbatos controlling a puppet that looks like a king (some speculated the king is David as he is the father of Solomon).

- In another illustration made by the official Obey Me cast on Instagram, it shows Diavolo gesturing to a red apple. Either this is indicating he was the one that lured Eve to eat the apple and regretted that decision which is the reason why he decided to improve his behaviors later in life.

- Man when I heard Raphael’s voice during Asmo’s arc I thought it was Adam, but nvm, it wasn’t. We may see Adam in the story though, like I mentioned in one of my previous posts, Adam was Lilith’s ex husband, so I don’t doubt that the devs would add an element of it to the story.

- There isn’t much information about Barbatos in demonology and from mythologies, but it's ironic that from said mythologies, Barbatos has the ability to reconcile arguments between friends/rulers but he seems to have this heavy dislike towards Solomon and refuses to speak about it. I seriously wonder what Solomon did bc this man fucking forgot what he even did to the butler.

- While I was doing research on Barbatos, I stumbled upon this (credits to Myths and Folklore wiki editors!) according to the The Infernal Dictionary (a book of demonology). This is stated about Barbatos:

"Barbatos, great and powerful demon, count-duke in the underworld, a type of Robin Hood; he is shown in the form of an archer or a hunter; He is found in forests. Four kings sound the horn in front of him. He's acquired the knowledge to divine the speaking of birds, the roar of bulls, dogs barking and screaming various animals. He knows the locations of buried treasures, say magicians. He reconciles quarreled friends. This demon, who was once of the order of Virtues of Heaven or that of dominions, is reduced today to commanding thirty hellish legions. He knows the past and the future."

I personally don't think in the game, Barbatos is an angel (or maybe he is an angel but man's disappeared for so long everyone forgot him and my guy turned into a demon afterwards/hj). It'll be interesting to see his lore and how the devs wrote his backstory. In mythologies, he's illustrated looking like Robin Hood, so maybe Barbatos (in the game) went to the human to give them justice??? Take my theories with a pinch of salt.

And that's all I can think of, I'll make more theories as I continue playing in my free time.

Also the devildom is like, so fucking dystopian and fucked up, like RAD is literally used to control the residents of hell in the most direct way possible, forcing them to wake up and attend "classes" and get punished if they take part in typical demon behavior? All in the name of their shitty rulers SON? Like wtf he's not even the king why can he do this

I'd be so mad if I was older than Diavolo and got the news that I was being forced to go to some cheap human school replica

If you're taking Nightbringer requests (well this might be more of a ramble than a request tbh):

With the way we can suggest certain things that might influence the OG timeline (like suggesting to Luci where to hide Goldie), do you think us being here is creating some sort of a time loop paradox? Like the Exchange program was highly influenced by MC's future-past self in OldTimey Devildom, but OldTImey Devildom wouldn't have existed without Exchange Program MC and it's all just a huge timeline mess (or, as Nightbringer put it, like mud).

Plus if that's the case, then us going back to our "regular" timeline probably erased the boys' memory of us.

Anyways I'm just imagining MC making it back to their normal spacetime and having to explain what happened to their demons (and maybe them unlocking their memories of OldTimey us, idk) and I'm curious what your thoughts are

i wasnt sure how to answer this in writing (like a oneshot or smth) but I CAN reply with my own thoughts i hope that's okay :D i put in a cut so its not so long

ok im not very far in but i can tell you this

personally, i'm not a huge fan of time travel tropes. its a lot to wrap my head around but i do think from a timeline standpoint its gonna change things and that can be fun to think about. i just gotta wrapp my head around it for a sec 😅

i think the boys would all have different reactions do it. considering/assuming they have memories of og obey me events and nightbringer, i think everything would make more and less sense at the same time.

mc is probably going to be incredibly confused (when aren't they tbh) and the boys are going to think everything happened. linear-ly.

from mc's perspective, they got to the devildom but were sent back in time later. according to the demons & co. (solomon, simeon, etc.), they met mc, then they left (?), and diavolo brought them back from the human world because of the exchange program without any memories of the demon world. however it's mc's actual first time in the devildom. maybe this erases the boys memories too.

i believe, knowing what we do about barbatos, that he's the one at fault for all the time travel stuff and he's the unknown person at the beginning of nightbringer. maybe im wrong. idk i think its the only reasonable explanation based on the characters we know so far.

there's a lot of ways this could go, but lets assume no one loses their memories when they come back to the "present", mc's memory is gonna be a lot different than the boys because they did things out of order. i think this is where i get to finally your question (I tend to ramble, can't you tell 😂)

i think lucifer takes it the best. he knows barbatos is powerful and figures this kind of magic isn't out of the question. he's glad to have you back, though to him it didn't seem like you were gone at all. he also apologizes for any way his past self might have treated you since it was directly after the celestial war.

mammon is a different story. he gives up on trying to understand time travel and when he makes the connection that was YOU, HIS mc, he gets all sorts of defensive. feels your face all over and makes sure you're still his mc and that you're still normal and that time travelling didn't change you any (if anything, it could have changed him, but you don't mention that. probably would freak him out more)

levi thinks about it like a video game. he understands, but pulls you aside later and begs for you to explain everything and anything that happened because now he believes he should pitch this to some animator friends he made online to see if it could be a new up and coming anime.

satan is pretty quiet. mostly, he's just happy that you're okay. he waits for all the chaos to settle and makes sure you're physically fine, then swears he'll hurt whoever sent you back in time and away from the rest of them. he also apologizes if he ever hurt you int he past that he may not remember distinctly. please reassure him its okay.

asmo is the first to pounce on you for a hug. immediately. you explain that you were gone for what felt like forever and he's SO happy to have you back!! insists that he gives you a makeover and you do a self care day for you to unwind after having to deal with their antics when they first got to the devildom.

beel low key wants to take you from asmo (and almost does) when you suggest you'll spend the whole next day with him and belphie. beel's idea of quality time is eating food & watching movies with people, so when you agree to do that, he agrees to not argue with asmo about who gets to make sure you're okay first. he's not really sure about this time travel business, but he knows he cares about you a lot and the thought that he (or him at the moment) wasn't there to protect you makes him feel a bit guilty.

belphie is more or less on the same lines as beel. he takes a bit more convincing to not pummel asmo (he's worried about you in his own way). however, he wants to spend the whole day learning about your adventures and trying to figure out how you remember everything versus how he does. his best way to think about it is like a weirdly-specific and realistic dream, but actually in reality. it's strange, but its the best way to wrap his head around everything.

i tried my best to answer your question!! i also started writing this WAY to late for my brain to be functioning properly so im sorry if this doesn't make sense :(( but thank you for sending smth in!! i love talking about these guys they're so fun. let me know if you have any other thoughts/want me to share any of my own!

I agree with your opinion and thoughts about Solomon and him asking us to side with humanity... I love solomon, and his ideas and priorities are admirable, really! But I'm pretty sure his ways of execution to reach those ideals and fulfill his goals, for humanity to be seen as a race worthy to be seen as an equal, isn't the only plausible way.

Not to mention that humanity can still be seen as a strong race without us having to hover at each other's throats and without instigating into an all out war. We can still reach a middle ground through our peaceful and understanding approach. Like us giving the grimoire to Lucifer, man was seething at Mc out of worry and fear for his brothers, which was completely understandable, but us handing out the grimoire could possibly give us brownie points into regaining Lucifer's trust back. I'm pretty the MC isn't THAT stupid.

So maybe the MC's approach through peace and trust is better than any of other race's approach, which is guided by their own power, biases, prejudice and preconceived notions, etc...

And sure let's say that Solomon is 100% on our side, the way he acts with us sometimes could really tip off our perspective towards him from good to bad and vice versa. And this man has the balls to warn us about time paradoxes and shi when he chose to make a pact with Asmodeus early than supposed to... you're the strongest sorcerer... just use ur powers to kill the spider bro or summon Barbatos instead early on instead💀 (Lesson 7?)

But I have a LOT to say, so hopefully this long-winded reply makes up for the delay lol

Let me start by saying that I genuinely appreciate your insight and I also agree with you 100%

I feel like there's still so much that hasn't been revealed to us yet, especially regarding Solomon's past. I've already given my own theories thus far, but I am particularly curious why Solomon thinks that war is even a viable option. What makes him feel this way? What exactly caused the last war he fought pretty much on his own?

Potential Spoilers

What I do find interesting is the information we have been given, though.

In 9-A, some of those prejudices and biases are shown when Solomon ends up in what is clearly an illusion of sorts.

And personally... I would absolutely love to debate and counter all of these assumptions and misjudgments.

In comparison to demons and angels... humans may be more prone to illness, injuries, and death. But that's literally what makes us human.

Despite this, I argue that it does not make humans fragile or weak. We are resilient. We rebound and recover from all sorts of terrible experiences. We survive and overcome trauma. We suffer loss yet do our best to keep our heads up. We fight and push forward through life. We may be human, but we are not to be pitied or underestimated.

I also argue the point of humans needing angels to "protect" us. Yes, there are humans who believe in guardian angels because that is what many of us were taught growing up. Humans want to believe in an afterlife, of a peaceful paradise after this life.

But what about humans who don't share those same beliefs? What about tragic events that occur every day where humans end up dying through no fault of their own? What about humans who feel as though God has forsaken them for whatever reason, whether it be due to illness, loss, or other unfortunate circumstances that have negatively impacted them? For those humans, it seems like no angel is looking out for them or "protecting" them.

My first argument to this mindset : What could a demon possibly understand about a human's path in life? That's like us telling Diavolo how to run the Devildom. It's a topic we are completely ignorant of, therefore we have no business calling the shots.

Not only that, but every single human being is different and unique in their own way. While one path may be good for one person, it may be detrimental for the next person. Also.... I believe that sometimes, humans need to lose their way in order to grow and become wiser.

Speaking from personal experience, I became "lost" more than once to the point where I used to cry and wish that it was possible for someone to come save me from the pain I was experiencing at that moment in time. But even if a demon magically appeared and offered to lead me someplace where I'd be able to find happiness... I would be highly skeptical. What is their definition of "happy"? How do they know I even have a chance at finding happiness? Where exactly would they be leading me? What would they want in return?

For argument's sake, I will admit that I may take a demon up on that offer even now. But it would be out of pure curiosity, not because I actually think I'd be able to find happiness. Which leads me to my next point : demons deceive humans with sweet words in order to drag them into the darkness

I have heard this saying and similar ones numerous times before (Luke even said something along the lines of demons using honeyed words to get others to do their bidding), and I feel like it is perfectly accurate in this scenario too.

Diavolo would be promising a lost, confused, and more than likely desperate human the chance to be happy, and all they would have to do is follow him to some unknown place. Seems way too good to be true, in my opinion.

So that's not "helping" humans.... That's confusing them even more and leading them further away from their path in life (at least within the Human World, since it sounds like Diavolo would take them to the Devildom/Hell. Though I'm just speculating there)

Then in 10-A, it is revealed that this illusion was conjured up by "Nightbringer".

Side note : since this is where Barbatos sent Solomon when he teleported him, it makes me question if Barbatos has connections to Nightbringer... or is somehow Nightbringer himself?

Either way, I found this question interesting :

Solomon is convinced that we share his beliefs and viewpoints, that we'll agree with him and help him fight for the sake of humanity despite saying that he is "not trying to make an enemy" out of either demons or angels .... Which as Nightbringer pointed out, is an awfully overconfident statement to make.

I found this both interesting as well as funny.

Solomon is against demons and angels judging humans, yet he is acting like he knows us inside and out. Don't get me wrong, I love Solomon too. But isn't that a bit hypocritical?

He may have a very close connection/relationship to us, but he obviously doesn't know our heart well enough if he honestly believes that we would turn our back on the brothers and support the idea of a war against them.

As you pointed out, anon... Solomon's delusions beliefs definitely tip the scales when it comes to us wondering if he's genuinely on our side or if he has some kind of hidden agenda that he needs our cooperation with in order for it to come to fruition.

And I absolutely agree with you! I don't know if Solomon has become senile in his old age or what, but he really went out of his way to warn us about the dangers of potentially altering the present if we do or say anything untoward.... Yet he goes and makes a pact with Asmo WAY sooner than he was supposed to. Uh, Solomon? What's with the double standards, buddy?

I really hate to say this, but it honestly does make me question if he used the whole "time paradox" spiel as an excuse to precipitate a conflict with Diavolo, Lucifer, and the others... Because Solomon must have known that if any of them found out MC was lying to them or keeping secrets from them, they would react accordingly (and yes, understandably so).

The latter was pretty much proven already, considering Solomon arrived right on time to save MC from Belphie once the brothers found out MC is actually human, then immediately proceeded to take them to a place where he thought they would be safe. It almost seems like it was planned from the start, if you ask me.

Another side note : And let's not forget where Solomon brought us. He was conveniently in reach of a grimoire that could successfully control Lucifer. Who has been wanting to make a pact with Lucifer for a very long time? Solomon. So I'm curious to know if Solomon did indeed plan all of this. If not to start a war, then maybe to try to force a pact with Lucifer? Because Solomon obviously knew that Lucifer was going to pursue MC and himself, hence why he brought MC to the Reaper's Cave (to get a bargaining chip... AKA the grimoire)

Side Note Number 3 : I find it especially interesting that the brothers threatened Solomon to bring MC back safe and sound. Is that because they suspect he might be up to something, too? Maybe they're worried that Solomon may try to use this opportunity to appeal to MC and have them side with him to escalate a war in the past, and that's why they basically used the promise of bodily dismemberment if he doesn't return with MC in the same condition they both left in.

Anyway, onto the next very important part :

I firmly believe the peaceful and understanding approach is the absolute best way to prove that humans are just as formidable as demons and angels.

My main reason for this belief is in regards to something Lucifer said :

It was my own decision that precipitated the war.

MC knows the brothers better than anyone else. I'd even argue that at this point, MC knows the brothers even better than they know themselves.

MC can reach them in ways they aren't expecting, because MC can use their knowledge of the "present day" boys to properly handle them now. This has been shown numerous times already when MC helped them, encouraging them, and comforted them.

Even when MC gave Satan a few little tidbits about cats, it was a special moment between the two. MC knows that present!Satan loves cats, so they knew past!Satan would instantly be fascinated to learn more. Plus... What better way to quell the Avatar of Wrath's anger than an adorable, fluffy, purring little kitty? ^u^

MC also knew that Lucifer wasn't angry when he cast his spell and was lowkey threatening them. Instead, MC knew Lucifer was scared and worried about his brothers, that he didn't want to risk their safety because of some human who's intentions are currently unknown to him.

But I'm starting to get a little off topic here.... Let me go back to the statement Lucifer made.

MC can choose to blindly follow Solomon and side with humanity like he asked them to do, which may potentially lead to a war between humans, demons, and angels.

Or MC can choose to do things their own way.

As I said before, MC knows the brothers better than anyone else. So MC can reason with them and help them understand that MC only wants what is best for them.... Because MC loves them and cares about them (whether that's romantically or in a familial way is up to you, but it still remains true regardless).

And if MC chooses to do things their own way, which I predict is what will happen especially after the whole grimoire incident.... if that choice means that MC will have to go through a series of trials and tribulations, overcome obstacles and hurdles, and use every ounce of energy and effort to find common ground between the three worlds while avoiding war at all costs.... Isn't that the perfect way to prove just how strong, driven, tenacious, and capable humans are?

MC can open the eyes of both angels and demons to exactly what they, a human, can accomplish through sheer determination and willpower.

It can also be a wonderful opportunity to show both Simeon (an angel) and Lucifer (a demon) that MC (a human) is able to accomplish what neither of them did.

It was my own decision that precipitated the war.

Lucifer made choices that resulted in war. MC can make choices to avoid a war.

Simeon regrets not speaking up back then, not reaching out and actively trying to get through to Lucifer. MC can do the opposite. MC can push and fight to prove their loyalty and dedication to the brothers, they can strive to enrich everyone's lives in a peaceful and nurturing way.

Knowing those two, I am absolutely positive that MC will unequivocally earn their respect this way if they choose this path. And if so... Not so weak and fragile after all, eh Simeon?~ ;D

Most importantly :

If MC makes their own choice to deliberately avoid a war/conflict because of their genuine love for the brothers, it will prove that being a human, demon, or angel is completely irrelevant when there is a mutual level of respect and understanding between two (or more) individuals.

Because let's face it.... We all know every one of the brothers is weak for us and will support us in any way they can. Even Mr. GrumpyPants Lucifer has a major soft spot for us. We just need to work towards rebuilding our relationships, strengthening our bonds, and reforging our pacts with them in this timeline.

But I'm sure MC will accomplish that, in their own way, on their own terms ^ᴗ^

Unhinged Obey Me Nightbringer Thought: Solomon's Dream Paradox

I've been having some thoughts about Nightbringer lately, and this in particular won't leave my mind (to call it a theory is a stretch, more of an AU or what if but it's fun!)

(spoilers for S4 onwards in OG Obey me under the cut:)

What if all of the events in Nightbringer were a product of Solomon's dream? What if all this time, we were never spirited away, never disappeared, but had just...never awoken ever again?

Worse of all...what if we don't even exist? What if we actually died in Chapter 16? What if the timelines weren't actually ever merged and there was an actual timeline where we died and our death had left everyone a mess?What if the we the brothers had come to know were someone (who loves us very much)'s very much embellished idea of us?

I've been seeing a lot of speculation in the fandom lately, discussing one of the most noticeable plotholes in the current story:

Where the hell is Solomon (NB timeline)?

Here are some of my speculations(to correlate with the dream theory)

1. NB Solomon isn't around because he is currently in a slumber, much like the Demon King.

In season 4, we come to know that Solomon had willingly placed himself inside a dream world and was not seen for several years. He just...vanished and was never heard from again. Sound familiar?

For some reason, Solomon's reasoning didn't really...sound right to me if that makes sense? While I don't doubt that he is ready and willing to jump into timelines for us...and can be quite shortsighted and one-track minded even (to the point he seemed almost uncaring and flippant in this scene):

There are obvious variables that were overlooked in what he said:

What happened to the Demon Brothers?

Why was he able to use Barbatos' powers WITHOUT Diavolo's permission? (When OG Obm said that Barbatos couldn't use his powers without Diavolo's permission?)

Which brings me to the conclusion that there was possibly something that went wrong when Solomon had jumped into spacetime. And for continuity's sake in this "theory", let's just say, it has cost him your life. And he could never bring himself to accept your death.

Which brings us to:

2. NB Solomon jumped into timelines to try and save you several times but failed.

This is where...things become complicated. Assuming that the second bullet point is true, then this explains Solomon's sense of urgency in his first call with us.

The sense of urgency is because he knows the consequences of his several failures. It had gone to the point where his recklessness becomes more apparent and he had become more upfront in protecting us because:

3. The NB Timeline is all a dream, and it's a dream Solomon is having over and over to quell his regrets.

The more I think about it, the more I feel like NB is too...pandering or maybe too... indulgent and wish-fulfilling if we look at it at Solomon's perspective:

He gets to have you as his apprentice

You live together with him

You have a stronger bond in the NB timeline and you trust each other.

He gets to have pacts with his own demons much earlier than the original timeline.

He has a chance to revisit locations from his past that might have significantly changed in the previous timeline (like the Otherworld and the Realm of Knowledge)

If everything in NB is just Solomon's dream, this would also explain why Barbatos is very upset with him. Because:

Solomon made him use his powers without Diavolo's permission

He had stuck himself inside a dream and refused to wake up and bear the responsibility of your loss

Inevitably, this theory would almost make him the likeliest candidate for Nightbringer because of these scenes:

Notice that he said YOU SEEK TO FORGE PACTS WITH ALL THE BROTHERS and that is precisely what HE WOULD LIKE AS WELL.

Wasn't it Solomon who told us we should forge pacts to "go back to the original timeline"?

Nightbringer's words are very on-brand with Solomon's well-meaning yet out-of-touch way of him of showing affection.

He is immortal, so his way of describing time also checks out. This is the same man who told us that he used to live in a colourless world before we arrived.

And why he always writes himself out of scenarios where everyone seems to bond and get closer because NB is written in his perspective and in his own opinion, he feels like he doesn't deserve to share the happiness with you because he had failed you. So he can only live on in a dream.

There is another angle that I can take from this ridiculous thought and that would be even more ridiculous:

There are two Solomons. NB Solomon in a slumber and the other, our OG Solomon. Barbatos does not like OG Solomon because he assumes he is an impostor.

This is again an unhinged thought that I wouldn't even call it a theory. I doubt this will ever be canon but does it explain so much lmao.
