“It feels like I can’t ever move on from this. From being Sungchan the hockey captain. I know you were just joking when you said it but—I don’t want to actually be that guy that peaked in college.”

“Yo, tell them about the championships against the Sharks, Sungchan!” Your colleague, Seunghan, insisted, pushing on your fiancé’s shoulder with his hand that held a drink.
Sungchan looked down at his feet for a moment, and you caught a quick flash of hesitation on his features before he looked back up at the group of enthralled people and gave a lighthearted chuckle and charismatic smile. “I’ve already told that story tonight, I’m sure everyone here doesn’t want to hear it again. Besides, don’t you all want to hear about Y/N’s paper?”
You two were at a rather ritzy gathering being thrown by your department celebrating that one of your articles had been chosen for publication in a huge literary theory journal.
“Anton wasn’t here when you told it earlier!” Seunghan shook a grad student instructor in your department. “And we’ve all read her paper like a hundred times before it got published.”
You reached up to squeeze Sungchan’s arm through his suit jacket. “It’s okay, Channie. I want to hear about it. That was championships your junior year, right? I wasn’t there, remember?”
He focused his gaze down on you for another second as if making extra sure, and you nodded and gave him a smile for good measure. He sighed, wrapped his arm around your shoulders, and began the story, much to all your colleagues’ delight.
Tumblr media
A little later in the night found you by the drinks table with Ten. When you had moved back to your old college town to accept a position with the Literature department, you hadn’t expected to walk in on your first day and see a familiar face. Sure, you knew you’d be seeing Dr. Son, who was the department head now and had conducted your interview, and several of your old professors, but you’d been keeping up with most of your old schoolmates and as far as you knew, Ten had moved away after you two finished your two-year master’s program and remained there.
Ten swirled his cocktail around his glass before taking a sip, his eyes trained on your fiancé, who was still surrounded. “Why do I never get that treatment?”
“Maybe you should’ve been captain,” you snickered, taking another sip of your soda.
“Too much work.” Your friend wrinkled his nose. “So what is your man doing these days anyway? He get that PhD in molecular biology about fish or whatever?”
“Yep, he’s a whole doctor,” you told your coworker, looking over at your guy with pride. “Defended his thesis last spring, we did a short stint abroad for about a year for him to study some rare fish in the tropics to cure a rare blood disease. I enjoyed all the food and the sun, really. He probably got skin cancer. And now we’re back here. He’s actually doing his post-doc research here, too.”
“He’s curing blood diseases in tropical fish?”
“No, sorry, in people,” you covered your mouth as you laughed. “Somehow, the fish could help cure a human blood disease, I’m not sure about anything past that.”
“And you’ve got a fat rock on your finger,” he teased, grabbing your hand to inspect your engagement ring. “What a power couple.”
You giggled, letting him look over the ring. “Yeah, something like that. He proposed when we were abroad. God, it was the most gorgeous sunset. Just us, nice and quiet.”
“I’m invited to the wedding, right?”
“Duh. We just haven’t sent invites yet, bitch.” You pushed him with your foot, rolling your eyes. “It’s going to be a certified frat party, I’m afraid.”
“Kegger?” Ten grinned.
“I’m enlisting Taeyong and Kun to keep all you menaces in check for me.”
“Well yeah, you can’t trust your Chenle-of-Honor to do that, he’ll be the first up to do a kegstand.”
You laughed heartily at that. “A few years ago, probably. But I’m happy to report my man-shaped best friend has grown into a real adult.”
“Really? What’s the little monster doing?”
“Middle management in advertising at a designer company. He’s got his eye on a promotion soon, though. Oh, and he’s got the cutest little dog.”
“Speaking of little monsters…” Ten trailed off, eyeing your drink, then your abdomen. “No alcohol?”
“I can’t drink on my medication, remember?” You shook the ice around in your glass smugly.
“Damn!”
Tumblr media
As you rode home with Sungchan, your hands entwined over the console, you looked out the passenger window with contentment in your chest.
“I’m sorry, baby,” he sighed, stroking a thumb over the backs of your fingers.
“For what?” You turned to look at him curiously.
His features were pensive and regretful as he focused on the road in front of him, one hand on the steering wheel. “For being a distraction all night. Everybody was asking me about hockey the whole time when all the focus should’ve been on you and your awesome article. I’m sorry, I'll completely understand if you just leave me at home next time.”
“Channie, why the hell would I do that?” You asked through incredulous chuckles, turning to hold his hand with two hands. “Celebrating my accomplishments would mean nothing if I didn’t have you there with me.”
“But I just—”
“Admittedly, I didn’t expect there to be so many puckheads in the Lang department,” you shrugged. “But I know where we work, and you are a bit of a hometown celebrity around here, baby.”
“That sounds like something you’d call somebody who peaked in high school.”
“Right, my bad. You peaked in college.”
“Rude.” He knocked your elbow with his, making you laugh.
“I’m kidding, handsome. But I am proud of you. I snagged a good guy, and I am not going to hide you away when I go to these events just because people are going to ask about your hockey career.”
“It’s not fair to you.”
“I appreciate you trying to put the focus back on me tonight, I really do.” You squeezed his hand. “But when Seunghan said everybody in the department had read my article hundreds of times, he meant it. They all helped proof and revise it dozens of times each. I was tired of reading it by the time it was accepted if I’m being honest with you. Hearing about your hockey game was a welcome reprieve from thinking about the body as a critical site for sex, gender, and political ideology in M. Butterfly.”
“Do you mean that or are you trying to make me feel less like a dick?”
“I mean it, baby boy.” You pinched his cheek.
He squirmed in his seat as he slowed to a stop at a red light. “You never call me that anymore…”
“Seems like you needed it.”
“Hey,” he said softly, turning his head to look at you. “I love you.”
“I know.” You cupped his cheek, stroking his cheekbone fondly. “I never doubted that for a second, baby.”
Sungchan leaned across the console to press his lips to yours, cradling the back of your head. You hummed delightedly into the kiss, moving your mouth against his sweetly.
When you felt the car suddenly roll forward, you jerked back, gripping his arm with a yelp. “Channie!”
He was already grabbing the steering wheel with two hands and slamming on the brakes again. “Fuck! Sorry!”
The car had moved forward less than half a meter and you were the only car at the intersection, but it was enough to get your heart racing.
“Are you okay, baby?” Sungchan checked on you with wide eyes, keeping one hand on the wheel as he reached his other hand over to grab your knee.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine.” You put your hand over his to reassure both of you. The light turned green then. “Let’s just uh, get home in one piece, hm?”
“Sounds like a plan.” He patted your thigh, leaving his hand there as he slowly started the car forward again.
Tumblr media
“Channie?” You called out into the house, shrugging off your coat. You’d stayed a bit late to grade papers, and while Sungchan would’ve usually stayed to walk home with you, he had wanted to get a head start on cooking dinner.
“Pantry!” He yelled back, voice distant as he was presumably deep in the walk-in pantry.
You continued shuffling through the mail you’d grabbed on your way in as you walked further into your house, tossing the junk mail in the trash as you fished out the one packet that had caught your attention. Stopping at the doorway to the pantry, you tore open the thick packet. Skimming the letter and investigating the two lanyards inside, you informed your fiancé, “Donghyuck’s team is having a preseason scrimmage at the university, and he sent us VIP passes.”
Sungchan stuck his head back out of the pantry. “So that’s why he asked for our address the other day.”
“When did you talk to Hyuck?” You asked as he gently took the letter and lanyards from your hands.
“He called me out of the blue a couple weeks ago. I was at the gym before work and completely forgot by the time I got home, sorry, baby.” He flipped over the passes hanging from the lanyards, bright green and dark black, the colors of the professional hockey team that Donghyuck had gone on to play for after college. “I thought he was going to crash on our couch or something, not this.”
“He’s a pro hockey player making like millions a year and you thought he was going to ask to couch surf?”
“You think he wouldn’t?”
“Good point,” you chuckled. “So how was he? Sound like he was doing well?”
“You said it yourself, he’s a pro hockey player making millions a year. I’m sure he’s doing great.”
You frowned up at him. “You didn’t ask?”
“It was a quick conversation, he’s busy,” Sungchan shrugged and handed everything back to you, disappearing into the pantry again. “We barely had time to say hello.”
“We should go,” you declared, setting the lanyards down in a spot so you two wouldn’t lose them.
“Baby, it’s a Friday. That’s our date night.”
“We can miss one date night for this, Channie,” you scoffed. “Besides, I’ve never heard of Jung Sungchan not wanting to go see a hockey game. Are you sure you’re my Sungchannie? Were you replaced by an alien or something?”
Sungchan kept his back to you as he started chopping vegetables. “Never mind, you’re right. We should go.”
You narrowed your eyes suspiciously, but didn’t push the issue further. “Alright...”
Tumblr media
Sat back down in familiar bleachers, you hugged Sungchan’s arm tightly, buzzing with excitement. As much as you had loved watching Sungchan play hockey when you were younger, there was something special about watching it with him, having him explain plays, tell you if a player made the right call, or how he would have done it if he had been captain. Being able to see the sparkle in his eye up close as he watched one of his favorite things. You’d seen it plenty of times in the years that you stayed local while he got his PhD. Which is how you knew that something was wrong now, even as he tried to flash a smile at you every so often, ones that never reached his eyes. He didn’t join in the cheers very enthusiastically, and never engaged when the other guys around him tried to debate calls that the refs made.
You found out that the whole team from your senior year had been invited as well, though some of them couldn’t make it. So it was you, Sungchan, Mark, Ten, Jeno, and Chenle in the VIP section. Yangyang was staying abroad with his parents, while Sicheng was at a seminar for work. Chenle was of course invited as an honorary member of the team, fresh off a plane from Paris with that promotion in his pocket.
Donghyuck was Good. He had been great when he was on the Raptors, obviously, which was how he had gotten scouted to go pro, but now he was great. And this was just a preseason scrimmage, just him messing around. You were sure he was scary good when he was actually trying at their real games. He’d kept his old number from college, 66, and seemed to have his own legion of fans with posters and signs.
When the game was finally over—and Donghyuck’s team won—a representative from the team corralled everyone with the VIP lanyards and directed you towards a different area while the rest of the stands filtered out. You kept your hold on Sungchan’s hand as you waited in what you were pretty sure was the women’s locker room for your old friend.
Finally, Donghyuck ran in, and everyone immediately swarmed him, hooting and hollering, slapping him on the back, ruffling his hair, and making teasing remarks about being a big shot now.
“Mark!” Donghyuck threw his arms around his old Big’s neck, nearly knocking his friend over.
“Christ, dude,” Mark wheezed, stumbling back a couple steps. “Are you still wearing your gear or something?”
“Did you not keep up with our lifting regiment?” Donghyuck shamelessly felt up Mark’s arms, then gasped dramatically. “Am I the Big now?”
Mark swatted his hands away. “If you want to pay for all my beer and drive me around in your Lamborghini or whatever, sure.”
“Deal!” The pro player grinned, then turned to the next person, who happened to be you. “Y/N!”
“Hyuck!” You beamed, opening your arms wide for him to throw himself at you as well, only staying up since Sungchan was right behind you to catch you. “Hey, there! God, I can’t believe it! You killed it out there!”
“Thanks!” He let go of you with one arm to wrap it around Sungchan’s neck, pulling him into the hug with both of you. “Oh, it makes me so happy that you two are still together! Are you engaged? Married? Kids? I didn’t have time to ask Sungchan when I called the other week, I was heading into an interview.”
You leaned back as much as he would let you, just enough to show off your ring. “He proposed last year. We’re— eugh!”
You were cut off by Donghyuck tugging you two against him into a tight embrace again. You gave him a pat on the back as you continued, slightly choked with your throat pressed against his shoulder. “We’re looking at a spring wedding…”
“I love you guys so much…” Donghyuck sighed. “All of you. I hope you know that hasn’t changed.”
“We know that, Hyuck.” You coughed, rubbing his back. “Make sure we have your address so we can send you an invite, okay?”
“What did I tell you, Y/N? In undergrad?”
“You told me a lot.” You laughed as he finally let you and Sungchan go. “Some stuff you probably don’t want me to repeat right now.”
“I said you guys were soulmates. I knew you were gonna get married. I knew it.”
“Oh yeah, you did.” You squeezed his hand that he still had a grip on. “Hey, when you retire from pro hockey, you can be a fortune teller.”
“Don’t joke about that, I’m the star player, haven’t you heard?” Donghyuck was practically puffing out his chest. “I’m years off from retirement!”
Sungchan grabbed him by the scruff then, teasingly mussing up his hair. “What did we always tell you about bragging?”
Ten, Jeno, and Mark eagerly joined in on giving him a killer noogie, the four of them managing to keep him in place despite Hyuck being the only one who had remained a professional athlete.
“Ack!” Donghyuck complained as he was surrounded. “Y/N! Chenle! Somebody, help!”
“Promise you’ll buy us dinner with your star player money,” Chenle crossed his arms over his chest as he watched on, “and maybe Y/N and I will convince them to leave you alone.”
“Yeah!” Jeno agreed. “Dinner and drinks and we’ll consider!”
“This is extortion!” Donghyuck yelped.
“Glad to see some things don’t change…” You sighed, shaking your head. “You guys still pick on him.”
“He needs an ego check,” Jeno snorted, his arm now around Donghyuck’s neck.
“I was going to take you all out to dinner anyway!” Donghyuck pleaded. “Didn’t you people read the letters?”
“It was in the letter, guys,” you confirmed loudly.
The guys all looked at each other, slowly releasing their holds on the youngest. With sweet, proud smiles, they fixed his hair and straightened his branded hoodie back up, smacking his shoulder and patting his cheek between compliments of how well he played and specific moves he did, giving feedback on certain things he could improve on still. Donghyuck rolled his eyes at the constructive criticism, but you could see him struggling to suppress the fond curl of his lip at being surrounded by his old teammates again.
Tumblr media
When you finally got home that night, you felt about ready to collapse into bed. You had a tired, happy smile on your face from seeing all your old friends again, and haphazardly tossed your go bag to the side before stepping out of your shoes. Sungchan didn’t follow you into the bedroom, as you had expected. You heard him detour to the kitchen, and your ears perked up with interest as you changed into your pajamas.
Sungchan didn’t just get a glass of water, though. You heard him rooting around in the snacks, and that’s when you got concerned. You had just eaten dinner and had drinks, and he had plenty of bar snacks as you all hung around and caught up after finishing dinner. He shouldn’t be scrounging for a midnight snack already.
After tossing your dirty clothes in the hamper, you ventured out to the kitchen determinedly. Sungchan hadn’t yet found something to eat, a frustrated pout on his face as he pulled out box after box, but didn’t open any.
“Hungry?” You asked curiously, leaning against the fridge.
“No,” he sighed, setting the container of crackers down loudly then rubbing his face harshly.
You held your hand out towards him, and he took it immediately. You led him back through your house by the hand, into your bathroom and let go there. Walking back out through the house, you grabbed his desk chair from your joint home office, and pulled it into the bathroom. He was standing exactly where you left him, and let you wordlessly push him down by the shoulders to sit in the chair. Washing and drying your hands, you then readjusted the chair, making sure he was exactly where you needed him. Then you climbed onto his lap facing him, the two of you perpendicular to your bathroom vanity. You grabbed a fuzzy character headband from one of your drawers and put it on him, pushing his hair back from his face.
“I—”
“Shh.” You stopped him as soon as he opened his mouth, putting your own headband on.
Next, you grabbed your cleanser.
“What—”
“Shh,” you repeated with more emphasis, holding his eye contact firmly, until he gave up and closed his mouth, letting his head fall back against the head rest.
You meticulously went through your whole extended skincare routine, doing each step first on Sungchan, then on yourself. He finally gave up on trying to talk, then finally relaxed, then really relaxed, his eyes fluttering shut and a pleased hum rising in the back of his throat.
“All done, handsome,” you announced at the end, giving his cheeks a final squish between your hands, then pulling off his headband and fluffing up his hair.
Sungchan slowly opened his eyes, reaching up to take your headband off as well.
You smiled down at him. “How are you feeling, Channie?”
“Better, thank you, baby,” he replied quietly.
“You want to talk about it?”
He couldn’t look you in the eye. “About what?”
“Whatever’s been getting you bummed lately. You weren’t all there tonight, I could tell. And the day we got the passes, you didn’t even want to come in the first place. That’s not like you.” You put both your headbands aside on the counter, then stood up off him. “You get changed into your pajamas, I’ll tidy up in here. We’ll talk in a few minutes, okay?”
“Yeah, okay.” He nodded, getting up and grabbing the chair to drag back with him.
You wiped down the bathroom counter and tidied up all your bottles and containers, listening to the sounds of Sungchan getting ready in the next room over. When you walked back into your bedroom, you were thrown for a loop as you couldn’t see your fiancé for a moment. You found him in your living room, sitting on your couch and holding a picture frame that usually lived on one of the end tables.
Sitting down beside him, you looked at the picture with him. It was of you two at his last collegiate hockey game, him still in his uniform as he picked you up and spun you around, bright smiles on both your faces. His face now was brooding, jaw clenched and eyes hard as he continued staring at it.
“You got me that for our first anniversary,” you commented softly. “I love that picture.”
“I do too,” he sighed, though his tone was much more bitter than his words.
“Talk to me, Channie,” you murmured. “What’s going on?”
“It feels like I can’t ever move on from this.” He shook the frame. “From being Sungchan the hockey captain. I know you were just joking when you said it but—I don’t want to actually be that guy that peaked in college.”
“Oh, Channie...” you breathed out, draping an arm across his back and leaning your cheek against his shoulder. “I’m sorry, I didn’t realize...”
“It’s not you, baby,” he assured you, squeezing your knee. “It’s everything else. Like I try to do anything else, be anything else, but I’m just dragged back into that stupid jock box again.”
“Well, what do you want to be?” You asked as you sat back up, rubbing up and down the center of his chest soothingly. “Not what you think other people want you to be, or what you think you should be. What do you actually like? What do you want to do? Do you still like hockey? Outside of everybody’s opinions about you liking hockey? It’s okay either way, for you to still like it or not. It was the biggest thing in your life for like twenty years, baby. It’d be ridiculous to expect you to just suddenly not like it as soon as you graduated.”
“Do you really want a husband that just talks about sports all the time while you’re talking about smart stuff?” He sighed, letting his eyes close as he leaned all of his weight against you, his hands dropping to rest the frame in his lap.
“I want a husband that’s you. That’s why I accepted your proposal and not like, Dr. Yoon’s or something.”
“I’m going to assume you’re being hyperbolic to make a point and that my research head didn’t actually propose to you. Because if not, then I’m going to stop pouting and write my letter of resignation right now.”
“I’m trying to make a point here.”
“Which is?”
“You’re really underselling yourself, Channie.” You encouraged him to lay his head in the crook of your neck, not letting up your movements on his sternum. “You’re plenty smart. We’ve been together for almost seven years and I still couldn’t keep track of a hockey game if a gun was to my head. Meanwhile you were a whole captain. You had to make decisions on your feet—or, your skates. Not to mention, hm, oh yeah, you have a PhD in molecular biology. Did you forget about that? Doctor Jung?”
“Oh yeah,” he mumbled into your collarbone.
“Oh yeah,” you mimicked him lovingly. “I nearly flunked my bio for non-majors course my freshman year, you know.”
“What?” He squinted up at you. “Seriously?”
“Seriously.”
“You knew I was a Bio major, you should’ve asked me for help.”
“I kick myself every day for it,” you replied melodramatically, and finally saw a smile tug at the corner of his lips. “So? Do you think you still like hockey or not?”
He let out a deep sigh. “Yeah, I do. I really do.”
“Good. I’m glad.” You kissed the top of his head. “I want you to do stuff that makes you happy.”
“Coach came and found me at the lab last week... the day we got the VIP passes from Donghyuck. He’s looking for a part-time assistant coach, said I was his first pick,” Sungchan admitted quietly.
“That’s why you were so... off that day, huh?”
“Yeah. It felt like I was handed a pamphlet for a retirement home.”
You chuckled as he reached forward to set the picture down on the coffee table, then grabbed your hand that was on his chest. He looked up at you with heartachingly familiar, big, round doe eyes, ones that hadn’t changed in the ten years since you’d first met.
“I told him no but... I’m thinking maybe I should ask if he’s found someone else yet?”
“I think that’s a great idea, baby.” You pecked his forehead. “Coach Jung… I think I like the sound of that.”
“Yeah?” He grinned, a much different look in his eye as he sat up to his full height, towering over you.
“I don’t know, let me try it again.”
“Go ahead.”
“Coach Jung.” You reached for the back of his neck as he laid you down on your couch, hovering over you. “Yeah, it’s got a nice ring to it, huh? Powerful, sexy. I love a man with a whistle.”
“You’re so dorky,” he snickered, letting you pull his lips down to yours. “I love you so much.”
“I love you more, my Sungchannie.” You cradled his face with both of your hands.
“Lies.” He kissed your lips. “Impossible.” He kissed your neck.
“Says who?”
“Who has the whistle here?”
“You don’t have one yet,” you teased, holding your arms up for him to pull your shirt off. “Assistant Coach Jung.”
Sungchan kissed a trail down your front, stopping above your waistband. “You’re forgetting something, baby.”
“What’s that?”
“I’m a scientist, with a degree and everything, and I say it’s scientifically impossible for anybody to love anybody more than I love my girl.”
You made grabby hands at him, and he rose up from where he had settled between your legs, entirely blocking out the lights above you. You connected your mouths together again, wrapping your arms and legs around him so tightly he had no choice but to lay his entire weight on top of you.
“No fair,” you complained into his mouth. “I just told you I almost flunked Gen Ed bio.”
“You should’ve let me be your sexy tutor, then.” He didn’t sound sympathetic at all.
“Yeah, freshman you all sweaty and nervous in your hockey team hoodie.” You broke apart to giggle. “Real hot stuff, Channie. Literally.”
“You’re lucky you’re the love of my life, or I’d be really hurt at some of the stuff you say to me, you know.”
“You’re right.” You gave him a peck. “I am lucky that I’m the love of your life.”

“Nobody is coming to save you. Get up.”
The words fell flat through the distortion of his helmet. Was it pity? Amusement? Disgust? He wasn’t wrong, though. The crowd that had suffocated the market lane moments before had mostly cleared in the wake of the Mandalorian.
He stalks over to where you’re still sprawled on the ground. It didn’t seem urgent to get up, to make it easier for him. With a huge gloved hand digging into your bicep, he pulls.
You go limp. You’re not going to help him, and you’re fairly confident he doesn’t have authorization to kill or seriously harm you.
You’re vindicated when he holsters the pistol, not that it’s a pleasant victory. He cuffs your wrists in front of your stomach and then simply hoists you over his shoulder.
“Where’s the cargo?” he asks.
This close, you can almost hear the grit of his real voice beneath the electronics.
You mean to ignore him, but his question is a thread that needs pulling. “What cargo?”
“He said you stole something from him.”
His words churn your stomach like rancid Bantha. That worm. “Well, you’ve got it,” you say bluntly.
He doesn’t question it, and you assume he’s clocked the ostentatious jewelry as the target. Trev always did like you shiny, whether with gemstones or tears.
He’s probably a little rougher with you than he should be, given that you’re not running anymore. But he’s a bit kriffed over the whole situation. He only took the bounty because the price was so high — but not being allowed to carbon freeze the bounty was almost not worth it.
But the client wanted his pretty little wife back without the side effects, and he was willing to compensate for it. He had said she could be restrained or gagged as needed. Had said Din would probably want to since the “bitch never shut up.”
It wasn’t his job to give a shit, so he didn’t. He did figure the client’s name would come across a puck sooner rather than later, though. Whatever he was peddling to afford this had the man under severe paranoia.
He drops you to your feet at the bottom of the ladder and nudges you with the barrel of the pistol. “Climb up and wait. Don’t touch anything.”
He expects an argument, given that you both know the blaster is mostly a farce. He’d be willing to take a cut on the fee if you tried anything, though. A bolt to the foot wouldn’t kill you.
But you don’t. You climb in silence, with him close enough behind that your bodies overlap. You’re acutely aware of his helmet’s proximity to your ass, and he’s acutely aware that it’s been too long since he paid a visit to a brothel.
He doesn’t manhandle you once he crests the platform to the cockpit; just jabs a finger in the direction of the seat to the left of the pilot’s chair. It sits slightly behind, the viewport partially obscured. He separates the cuffs and magnetizes them to the arms of the chair.
The engines rumble to life once he’s seated, switches flicked, and buttons pressed in the wake of his deft fingers. He doesn’t speak a word to you.
When Karga answers the comm, he interrupts the man’s pleasantries to get right to the point. “I’m confirming the status of the bounty as requested. She’s alive and in custody.”
“Excellent, excellent; I knew you’d make quick work of it, Mando,” Karga says, clapping his hands together. The holo flickers. “The client has requested that you avoid hyperspace travel upon your return.”
“What?” Din snaps.
“There’s extra compensation in it for you, of course.”
“That’ll take eight standard days,” Din gripes.
“Your expenses will be covered, as well. Food, fuel, any lodging.”
“Fine,” Din says and closes the line. He sits in silence for a moment, sifting through the new information, before he stands abruptly and turns to you.
“You’re pregnant,” he says bluntly.
You dither about how to respond. In the end, you don’t. He can’t be trusted. So you purse your lips and look away.
No one needs to know that the first thing you did when you got far enough away was fork over one of your bracelets for a termination at a no-questions-asked clinic. They had been kind, if not overworked and undersupplied.
“That’s what you stole, isn’t it? His baby?”
You don’t say anything, but you don’t back down from his gaze, either. His baby. The phrasing sets off so many warning bells it’s like a ship-wide alert.
Din’s first instinct is anger. It’s too close to his own gaping wound, too close to where Grogu lives with Luke Skywalker, a man who hadn’t even given Din his name before taking his kid. And yeah, he’s supposed to feel like he did the right thing, but his son is gone, and it doesn’t feel like the right thing. Not at all.
He looks at you and wonders how you could be so cruel.
It doesn’t last, though. He’s seen enough to know the way this story usually goes. So, instead, he looks you over and sighs. “I’ll see what we can do for other accommodations,” he says, a loose hand gesturing to the cuffs.
“Thank you,” you say, though you don’t feel very thankful at all. But you know a little politeness to your captor goes a long way. You know that like you know how to breathe.
Tumblr media
It works until it doesn’t. On the fourth day, you wake up at the inn he had agreed to for the night and smell iron, and you know the ruse is up. You try to sneak to the fresher but quickly realize it doesn’t matter. You have nothing to hold back the blood, anyway.
You sit in your soiled panties on the cold metal tile and resign yourself to free bleed until he inevitably wakes and finds you.
You don’t wait long.
“We’re not far from a clinic,” he says cautiously, from where he leans against the doorframe.
“Don’t need one,” you mumble, looking anywhere but him. It’s bad enough that you couldn’t come up with an explanation—knowing you’ve bled through enough that he can see it is on another level.
“You don’t know that,” he says with what you think he thinks is compassion. “There might still be something they can do.”
The truth flickers across your face for only a moment, but it’s long enough for him to catch on.
“It’s your cycle,” he says, flat and loyal to his thoughts.
You nod. No use lying now.
“Were you ever pregnant?”
“Yes.” Your voice is clipped, your face pulled sharp.
“How long since?”
“Two weeks after I got away. Six before you found me.”
Two months. You had made it two terrifying months on your own. And now, thanks to this monster, you were being dragged right back.
Trev had to have spent a fortune on this bounty. You feel feverish at the thought, a cold sweat creeping across your spine. And when he finds out you’re not pregnant…
Wait.
“You know, you won’t get your money,” you blurt, hardening your eyes as you stare him down, shoulders squared.
“I will. Whatever happened to you isn’t my problem.”
“No, you won’t,” you say, taking a breath before jumping in front of the proverbial blaster. “Not after you were so rough when you captured me, and I lost the baby.”
His head snaps to you. “What did you say?”
“When you found me. You tackled me, knocked me to the ground, and attacked me. The trauma was too much, and—“
And he has you pinned up against the wall where you sit, a hand around your neck. “You really think this is a smart idea?”
“Go ahead,” you hiss through his grip. “Leave marks.”
He lets go immediately, seething. His gloves creak as his fists tighten around nothing.
“What if we can work something out?”
“I don’t negotiate with quarry. What’s stopping me from putting you in the freezer now?”
“My jewelry,” you say in a rush. His threat isn’t idle; you can feel its wrath as if his hand never left your throat. “It has to be worth at least as much as he offered. Tell him there was a complication, send him the ring, and you can have the rest.”
He doesn’t respond; just storms off. You, of course, stay put.

Cold Seat | L.Hughes
Warnings: none again. Fluff asf
Pairing: Luke Hughes x fem!reader
a/n: lowkey a blurb. This is basically based in a high school setting more then anything. Specifically my high school. The whole Friday night hockey games where all the high schoolers sit at the very end of the bleachers that only take up one side of the ice. When the girls only go to hang with their friends (watch their crushes play and find them on the hockey website then add their snaps) yeah that’s how this writing piece is working. Except Luke is actually into you and not just some typical hockey boy. You aren’t official but it’s still fun for you to sit in the freezing cold for 2hrs then take a photo with him after:) Can you tell I’m speaking from personal experience?
Tonight the U18 team had their final game in which determined who won the finals. My whole high school was going. The whole town usually takes up every seat in the stands but always leaving room for the high schoolers at the end of the bleachers. Me and my friend f/n had gotten there early to grab seats, the rest of our friends not far behind us. It was just me, her and couple other students sitting down when warm up started. The most entertaining part of the game. Luke was the star player in my little home town so as soon as he stepped out everyone cheered. He didn’t pay attention to it though, he just went on with his warm up and began shooting pucks and skating in random circles.
“He’s not even the best on the team” a girl behind me says.
I choose to ignore her. The thing is Luke was actually the best in his division, he had so many offers for elsewhere but he really just wanted to stay in his home town and play with his friends.
“Please stand for the national anthem” I hear the announcer say. The announcer being Mama Hughes. Everyone stands, the boys lined up on the blue lines with their helmets off. Luke’s curly hair already sweaty from warm up. He looked down at his skates.
The game started. Luke at face off starting the game of right with a pass to one of his team mates. Nearing the end of the first period the score was still 0-0. That was until Luke made a shot and got it in. The crowd went crazy, he did a stupid bow and his teammates rushed over to him. They all hugged by the glass in front of me. He looks over his shoulder at me and gives me the cheesiest smile. I smile back. I hear the girl behind me scoff.
~
Near the end of the 3rd period we were tied with the other team at 5-5. Everyone knew if we lost this game we were just second place. There was 10 seconds left in the 3rd and everyone was nailed biting, sure over time was fine but it’s not the best. All of a sudden Luke is shooting down the ice making a break away and pulls his stick back making a wrist shot. The puck flies straight down the ice and right past the goalies glove into the net right as the buzzer goes. The arena goes wild. I look across the ice to see all the boys jumping over boards and onto the ice to congratulate the team. Me and all the other students are all screaming, I’m hugging my friends with tears in my eyes. I look down the bleachers towards the penalty boxes and the announcers boxes, I see Ellen waving me over. As soon as step in the box she gives me a big hug.
“They won!” She screams.
“I know!!!” I scream back. “Now we don’t have to deal with Luke’s cranky butt all night”
“Exactly what I thought!” She exclaims.
I look at the ice and notice all the stick, helmets, and gloves scattered across the ice as the boys continue congratulating each other. Mr. Hughes giving Luke a tight hug. Since it was Luke’s senior year the moment was bitter sweet. A bored member brings the banner out to the team and they take a big photo.
“Would Luke Hughes, number 43, please make his way to the penalty box” I hear over the intercom. I look at Ellen who’s speaking into the mic. She shoots me a smile. “There’s someone very special over here who wants to see you”
Ellen opens the gate for me to step on the ice. Luke skating full speed towards me. He picks me up and spins me around while still on the ice.
“Guess what!” He says to me.
“What?!”
“We won!” He says, again with a big cheesy smile.
“I know!” I say with a squeaky voice.
He leans down and places a kiss on my forehead.
“Hey captain!” I hear one of his coaches yell from across the ice. “I gotta get a photo with you”
“I’ll be right back” he says while letting go of my hand.
When he comes back he brings the banner with and says we need a photo, Ellen steps out to capture it. Then we get one without the banner. Before the last photo he leans into my ear and whispers… “I love you”. A smile creeps onto my face as Ellen captures another photo, totally oblivious to what Luke whispered to me.
“I love you too” I whisper back.
<3
a/n: sorry this is short and kinda bland but I thought it was cute. wish all hockey boys were like my version of Luke.

Business and Pleasure, Chapter 3/3 (Cad Bane x F!Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: Cad Bane is not a happy man. You've escaped prison and now he has to round you up again. But nothing is ever that simple in his line of work. Complications arise that test his mettle... and his self-control. Sequel to "Catch and Release."
Pairing: Cad Bane/F!Reader
Rating: Explicit.
Word Count: 2.9k (of ~7k)
Warnings: Public nudity, PiV sex, semi-public sex, implied prostitution, sexual harassment.
CHAPTER 3
Bane doesn’t move. His stomach swan dives into his boots. He recognizes why this time. Panic. Been awhile since he felt that.
“I’ll let you go on your merry way,” Klefreso says, “but the burglar stays with me.”
“Let her go, Hutt,” he growls. “She’s my quarry. I got the bounty puck. You’d get nothing from turning her in.”
Klefreso laughs. “Turn her in? Now why would I do that, after you showed me just what sounds she’s capable of pulling from a man?” He licks his lips and pats your head. “This little sugarplum will make me a fortune.”
Bane knows the smart thing to do. Take his leave. Forfeit the bounty. Keep his life as a free man and not a cold corpse in a shallow grave. It should be an easy decision.
But he can't do it. His body wants him to get the hell out of there, but his mind won’t let him. He’s trying to holster his blasters, but his hands are frozen in place as he imagines what will happen to you. He can’t take his eyes off of you, off of your pleading expression.
One of your eyes snaps shut. A wink.
Cad Bane is not a trusting man. He hates unspoken plans when he's on the receiving end. But it's enough to loosen his joints. It hurts to lower his weapons, but he does so.
“Fine,” he spits. “Keep her.”
Klefreso lets out a booming belly laugh. “Glad we could see eye to eye!” He releases your head, but sweeps you into his arms so that you’re flush against him. He brings up a hand to pinch your cheek. “Of course, you’re free to come use her services any time... so long as the rest of us can watch.”
His blood boils. His gut churns. He turns and stalks up to the boarding ramp, clenching his jaw hard enough to hurt. Whatever you’re going to do, you better do it quickly--
Klefreso howls like a beast. Bane spins around to see him gripping his hand and you sprinting towards the ship. Blood rings your mouth, and you spit something out as you run, your bare feet smacking against the tile.
He can’t help but grin. Attagirl.
The ship begins to lift off the ground. He holds a hand out to you, but you take a flying leap and he has to throw his arms around you to prevent himself from falling. He pushes you inside and runs to the cockpit.
Todo is there, perky as ever. “Oh, thank goodness! You had me worried for a minute there--”
“Can it, Todo.” Dropping into the pilot’s chair, he grabs the yoke and primes the engines for maximum speed. “Go strap her in.”
Within moments, the Justifier leaves the platform. A fighter tries to pursue, but he’s not concerned. One homing missile later and it's nothing but a cloud of debris.
He flips a switch on a side panel. Using this is hell on the engines, and he only uses it in emergencies. This is definitely an emergency.
The engine roars and he leaves the fighters in a trail of smoke. He's out of the exosphere in minutes, and he feels a tug as the artificial gravity kicks in.
Where to go, where to go... He keys in the coordinates to Nal Hutta. Klefreso is no friend of the Hutt council and his goons wouldn’t set foot there.
He pulls the switch. The hyperdrive hums, the stars melt together, and a jolt knocks him backwards.
As he looks up at the swirling, glowing blues, he slumps in his chair. Safe at last.
---
It stops raining as the ship lands. Steam rises from the soaked ground, and the air is hot and thick. It's like breathing in soup.
You freeze just over the threshold. You glance back at Bane with a grimace. “It’s disgusting out here.”
He agrees with your assessment, but he doesn’t care. Placing the tip of his finger on your back, he gives you a push. You put two hands on the doorframe and resist.
“But there’s a bounty on my head! I can't show my face!” you whine.
“With what you’re wearing, no one’s gonna be looking at your face.” He gives you a shove and you stumble down the ramp, managing to avoid landing in a heap.
As always, he’s right. You get plenty of attention as he leads you through the bazaar, but not even the people he recognizes as bounty hunters try to make a move. All you get are leers, whistles, and rude comments. You keep your head high, letting them roll off like water off a Gungan's ears.
Until a Weequay grabs your arm and tries to pull you away.
He’s annoyed when anyone tries to snatch his quarry, but this time, the same feeling of panic as when Klefreso grabbed you flares up in his chest. He smothers it by blasting the Weequay in the chest. The would-be assailant hits the ground with a wet squelch.
You stare at him as he holsters the weapon. You’ve got the strangest look on your face. Shock, admiration, gratitude, and... something else. Whatever it is, it makes his stomach flip and his cock pulse.
Scowling, he grabs your wrist and pulls you along. Stomach, chest, and now his cock? He’s definitely going to need a doctor.
The door to Pablo’s is already open, and he strolls in with you in tow. To the slimy little man’s credit, Pablo himself shows no fear as he enters, though his Twi’lek assistant recoils a little.
“Pleasure to see you again, Mr. Bane.” His voice is greasy smooth. “How can I help you today?”
He pulls you in front of him. “Lady needs clothes.”
Bane didn’t think a Rodian’s eyes could bug out even more than they already did, but Pablo’s eyes damn near pop out of his head. “How much did she cost you?”
“I didn’t cost him anything,” you say indignantly. You cross your arms. “He rescued me.”
Pablo turns his attention back to Bane, somehow even wider-eyed. Bane’s first instinct is to shoot you -- it’s technically the truth, but he’s got a reputation to maintain. You spreading that around will blow it. He manages to control himself enough to channel it into giving your ass a solid smack.
“Go get decent,” he growls. “Don’t even think about running.”
You glower at him, rubbing the handprint blossoming on your rump. The Twi’lek follows you into the shop proper. He leans against the wall and sticks a toothpick in his mouth, watching you carefully. He doesn’t speak much Huttese, but he can follow the conversation.
It seems normal enough. She searches among the shelves, pulling out various articles of clothing for you to give input on. What size are you? A Corellian twelve. What about this? I’ll melt in that. You’re right, try this one.
Pablo sidles up to him, as he’s done countless times in the past. He usually knows better than to ask questions, but he seems bold today. "So... Rescued her?"
He decides to humor the Rodian. Your conversation is boring anyways. “Pulled her out of Klefreso’s mitts. Had that on when I found her.”
Pablo nods. “I see.”
The topic of discussion between you and the Twi’lek has changed. «I could sneak you out the back real easy,» she says. «It wouldn’t be a problem. I’ve taken worse heat from tougher men.»
He rests his hand on his blaster and sighs to himself. He's exhausted. He doesn’t like the thought of dragging you back to the ship. He could probably just shoot you and leave you in the mud...
But you respond unexpectedly. «He caught me fair and square. And he did rescue me, so I’d hate to repay him like that.»
He’s pleasantly surprised, if not somewhat put off. He’s not used to his quarry being so... courteous.
«Are you sure?» she asks. «That’s Cad kriffin’ Bane. You can't trust him.»
«Don’t I know it. He’s put one over me before.» Whatever you're pulling over your head muffles your voice slightly. «I don’t think he’d try it again, but I got a plan just in case.»
Pablo chuckles lightly to himself. “You know...” he says, “you could make triple what you could get turning her in by selling her to the Hutts. I hear Gorga is looking for a... companion.”
His conscious mind knows that’s a good deal. Get paid more and get her off his hands sooner. But, just like with Klefreso, the thought of anyone else touching you, kissing you, making you purr... His blood boils just considering it.
“Think I’ll stick with what I got.” He rolls his toothpick between his lips before plucking it out. “Working with Hutts always ends bad for me.”
Pablo is about to reply when heeled footsteps catch his attention. He peers around Bane, and his brows shoot up.
Bane turns to look. He’s lucky he’s holding his toothpick, because his jaw goes completely slack.
You’re not wearing anything special. A checked dress that goes to your knees, a pair of scuffed boots, a little cloche hat. But even after all the shit you’ve been through today, the smile on your face makes you look like a billion credits. It’s such a far cry from how he usually pictures you that he forgets how to speak Basic for a hot second.
“Izrin,” he mumbles to himself in that brief moment. Beautiful.
But it passes as soon as it came, and he’s left hoping that no one in earshot speaks Durese. He forces some gruffness into his voice. “You finished?”
You nod, and he reaches into his pockets to pull out some credits. You stop him, instead rolling up your sleeve to remove some of the bracelets you escaped with. You toss a few to Pablo and hand one to the Twi’lek.
“Ur-diamonds,” you say. “That should cover it, right?”
Pablo looks like he might faint from excitement. “Y-Yes! It’s been a pleasure, miss.”
Bane doesn’t like the way Pablo leers at you, but he lets it slide. He gives him a brief hat tip. “‘Til next time.”
He bites back down on his toothpick and walks out with you, the door closing behind him. For once on Nal Hutta, there’s not a cloud in the sky. The haze is clear enough to see the creatures floating high above. Mud and puddles dry in the warm light.
Even the sun comes out for you, he muses.
You’re observing your surroundings, one arm crossed over your chest. Your other hand twirls your hair around your fingers. You appear to be deep in thought.
Finally, he speaks. “He’s eventually gonna realize you gave him fancy-lookin’ plastic.”
You stare at him a moment, surprised that he picked up on your deception, but you let out a chirpy laugh. “I’ll be long gone by then,” you say. Your face falls somewhat. Eyes downcast, you stick out your wrists. “Let’s get this over with.”
“About that.” He rolls the toothpick around before plucking it from his mouth. “I owe you a favor. I don’t like owing favors.”
Your eyes narrow. “You rescued me from Klefreso.”
“That wasn’t a rescue,” he says. “That was me not leaving my catch behind to get turned in by someone else.”
You have the good sense not to argue the point. “So you want to even the score.”
"Exactly." He points at you with the toothpick. “Give me the real ur-diamonds and I’ll give you a two-hour head start.”
Your lips purse as you consider the offer. “Four hours and I keep a necklace.”
He doesn’t know if he's amused or annoyed. He puts the toothpick back in his mouth. “Three and you keep a bracelet,” he says around it.
“Deal.” You stick your hand out to shake on it, but you pull back just as he’s about to take it. “One more condition. Kiss me properly.”
That throws him for a loop and a half. He cocks his brow at you. “...Weird condition.”
You shrug a bit, still smiling. A flush dusts your cheeks. “The honest truth is that I still think about that first time you caught me,” you say. “Earlier was good, but I didn’t get to taste you.”
He considers your terms. “What kinda kiss?”
You shrug. “We’ll see where it goes.”
Bane spends a few moments chewing on his toothpick. You had to have some sort of ulterior motive. You had to. There’s no way you were just that horny for him. The thought was flattering, but you were sneaky. You’d absolutely try something.
And yet you’re looking at his mouth the way a voorpak looks at its master’s lunch. He can see it in the shine of your eyes, the way you nibble your bottom lip. You want it and you want it bad.
If he's being honest with himself, he wants it too.
He tosses the toothpick away with a flourish. “Alright,” he says. Your face lights up, but he jabs his finger at you. “But I want the jewelry first.”
He expects you to roll your eyes and huff, but you don’t. You pluck the bracelets from your wrist, pull the chains from your pocket, and lift the necklaces over your head. You deposit the handful of jewels into his waiting hand.
He weighs them in his palm. He's handled ur-diamonds before, and the weight seems right, as does the luster and shine. Satisfied, he slips them into his pocket. He doesn’t stop the mischievous smile from curling his lips.
Grabbing your shoulders, he pushes you against the wall, trapping you between his arms. Not that you were trying to escape. Far from it. He takes your chin between his thumb and forefinger, tipping it upwards and presses his mouth to your grinning lips.
Some idiot chooses that exact moment to set off fireworks. Or so he thinks. It’s the only explanation for why he’s seeing starbursts with his eyes closed. And why his stomach is doing that thing again. And his chest.
You let out a little hmm! of satisfaction, and your teeth graze his lower lip. He lets out a little growl as he parts them, letting your sweet, sweet tongue inside. You taste like a gulp of cool water in the desert, like a warm breeze on a frigid day. You wrap your arms around his neck to pull him closer, and he obliges you.
He snakes his hand up under your hat to anchor a hand in your hair, soft and fluffy and mesmerizing. You giggle into the kiss, but it turns into a moan as he breaks away from your mouth and goes to your neck. Your soft, pretty neck, so perfect for sucking and biting. He drags his tongue up the sinew there. You taste salty-sweet. He sinks his teeth into your pulse, making you gasp.
His name comes out like a prayer, whispered and breathy. “Cad...”
It makes his cock twitch, and he pulls away from the bruise blooming on your skin to whisper in your ear. “Say it again, izrin,” he says, nipping at your earlobe. He doesn’t even care what he called you.
You squirm beneath him. “Cad...!”
Oh, he loves that sound. He wants to hear more of it.
He’s about to suggest that the two of you get a room when a lecherous whistle knocks him out of his reverie. A shifty-looking Human is watching intently, a bottle in his hand and a disgusting grin on his face.
You glower at the man, then look back to him. Your eyes dart to his holster. It was like you’d read his mind.
He shoots from the hip. The man is dead before he hits the ground, a smoking hole between his eyes.
You watch with a cruel smile on your face and that look in your eyes that he still can’t explain. “It’s so hot when you do that,” you say.
Ah. So it was lust all along. He cracks a grin as he twirls his blaster and slips it back into his holster. “Now, where were we?
He’s going for your neck again when a shout goes up from inside the pawnshop. Angry Rodian coupled with Huttese, and it’s getting closer.
You huff. “That was faster than anticipated.”
For a brief moment, Bane entertains the idea of shooting Pablo, but he thinks better of it. He pulls away from you to straighten out his clothes, only for you to beat him to it. You neaten his lapels, smooth his shirt, adjust his hat.
More shouting, and he pushes you away. “Get going. Can't have Pablo catching you before I do.”
You give him a small smile. “I'd never disappoint you like that.”
With a wave, you trot off. He pulls out another toothpick and leans against the wall, one hand in his pocket. The string of pearls he took from you is still there. He never did get around to selling it. He’s not sure why.
Pablo comes charging out of the store, fists clenched. “Which way did she go?” he asks.
Bane points in the vague direction you went. Might as well put some heat on your heels. Make things exciting.

Ret'urcye Mhi - Rogue, Chapter 7 | The Mandalorian x Force Sensitive! Reader (F)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: Can things go back to normal after the Mandalorian saw you break down? Or have walls been torn down that can’t be replaced?
Warnings: Light swearing, I don’t want to give it away but no smut but… a ‘moment’ with some certainly hot thoughts and pining but nothing heavy though, reader has a back tattoo, let me know if I forgot anything!
AN: I have brought in Cara Dune in this, and she will be a frequent character. I by no means condone what Gina Carano did, and I am pleased and relieved that she is gone. However, I do like her character, as many others do. She IS only mentioned in this one briefly but will be a main character in a few future chapters.
Also, Readers tattoo is loosely based on this design!(link)  I’m not sure who the exact creator is, but it was posted by Urban Threads on Pinterest, but if you know, please tell me! ❤️

Mando’a Translation: Ret'urcye mhi - Goodbye
Neither of you mentioned that afternoon.
It hadn’t come up in the 3 days since, and it hadn’t come up today. You made sure of it.
Every time Mando looked at you, and you just felt he was going to mention it, you’d change the subject. Or just walk away. You didn’t need to have that conversation with him. You couldn’t have that conversation with him. Or anyone.
The Mandalorian had sat there, holding you for the hours it took for you to cry yourself out. When the shuddering sobs had given way to hitched breaths and a numb stare, he’d still sat there. Rubbing your back in gentle circles, in time with Duru’s tail gently swaying over your arm. He hadn’t uttered a single word either, just letting you break down in his arms.
When the quiet ambiance of the ship and the pressure of his hand had lulled you into sleep, he’d carried you to his bed – well, the narrow cot that jutted out from the wall in what was supposed to be the medical area. He’d given up his sleeping compartment to Grogu a long time ago, to keep the little creature warm and safe.
He’d laid you in, covering you with the blanket and then one more that he pulled out from a unit.
You were asleep, so you hadn’t seen the way his gloved fingers gently brushed back the hair from your tear flushed cheeks, the way they’d lingered for a moment as he’d looked down at the soft strands gliding over his fingers. You hadn’t felt the way he’d frozen when a sudden want crashed through him, to yank off his gloves and run his bare hands through your hair, feel the silkiness and the texture for himself.
And you also wouldn’t have noticed the way his breathing went ragged for a moment and he’d lurched back, stumbling away so quickly he nearly overturned a box on his way out of the door.
Your sleep hadn’t remained easy. Only a few hours later, you had woken up screaming, unsure of where you were, why you were on a thin cot that smelled like metal and smoke and something distinctly unique and almost like sandalwood. It was somehow comforting, soothing. You had inhaled the scent, trying to calm down your pounding heard and regain control of your breathing.
It was only when you could suck in a full breath that you realised where you were, who’s bed this was.
A feeling of gratefulness had crashed over you, only to be immediately wiped out by shame. You had broken down in front of him, spat such awful, awful things to his face.
And when you heard footsteps outside the compartment door, the husky baritone of his voice as he called out your name softly, you’d gone still. Like you were back on the run, mere inches away from a hunter and one move would mean disaster.
He’d lingered, you could see by the shadows of his feet under the tiny gap at the bottom of the door. A wild thought had come to you, that he had his hand pressed to the door and you could just.. open it. Open it and let him come in, let him carry the burden of your nightmares and your feelings even If it was just for a little while. You could share some of those plaguing thoughts that you’d unleashed today. And he would listen. You didn’t know him that well, but you knew him enough to be confident he would sit there, let you talk. He knew what it was like to be alone, to have emotions and worries that you had no choice to bear yourself.
The temptation was so strong, you craved that contact and connection so much that you were halfway across the room before your snarling argument came back in full technicolour. The things you’d said to him. The appalling way you’d acted.
No.
You couldn’t see him. You couldn’t face him after that. After what you had said and the way you had cracked. You shook your head firmly, waiting until you heard a sigh so soft you might have imagined it and retreating footsteps.
It was only then you that you returned to the bed, pulling the twin blankets up high over your shoulders.
You’d deal with seeing him in the morning, but for now, all you could do was bury your face in the thin pillow and try not to notice how it smelt like him.
Something had changed between the two of you since that afternoon. He had glimpsed a part of you that you normally kept perfectly hidden, even from yourself.
You were on your way to another bounty, one of the last couple of pucks that Mando had left.
Mando had mentioned it was a hot, desert planet and he’d prefer it if you stayed in the ship with Grogu. It’d be far too hot for the little guy out there. You had obliged happily, more than fine to stay in. You didn’t like to be too hot, it made you uncomfortable and agitated.
The cockpit was quiet, a peaceful silence had descended upon it as Mando flew the ship.
You’d found yourself drawn to watching his hands lately. There was something… oddly soothing about it. Watching him work the controls, hold Grogu, clean his weapons.
You wondered if he missed the sensation of touch, and then wondered if yours and the kids presence here made it harder for him. Meant he had less chances to take off his armour and be free of it.
Of course, that had then led you onto the thought of wondering if he slept naked when he was alone.
The thought of him lying there, nothing hiding him, separating him from the world.
The thin blankets sliding over the body you knew was toned, yet soft enough in all the right places.
It made your mouth a little dry, your cheeks a little pink and you struggled to find something else to think about.
Your eyes drifted to his hands again, remembering the sound of the gloves being drawn off the other night.
They were mesmerising, agile, and you couldn’t stop thinking about them in your hair, on your skin.
Stars above, get a grip, girl.
You mentally scolded yourself for these thoughts, trying to steer your damned imagination onto something more appropriate.
Luckily, your saviour came in the form of Mando himself. He tilted his head back slightly, enough for you to know he was talking to you, “What’s your favourite planet? Or one you’d like to visit?”
The question surprised you, you had to admit. You weren’t used to people asking about your likes and dislikes. You smiled though, perhaps this was his gentle way to break any tension left over. “Hmm… I think… I’d have to say the planet I’d like to visit most... either Hoth or Coruscant.”
Mando laughed, that gorgeous rough, honey laugh, “Okay, Coruscant I can understand, but Hoth? Really?”
You pouted at the back of his head, “Yes!! It sounds beautiful.”
The Mandalorian laughed more, “Beautiful? Sweetheart, it’s covered in ice. It’s freezing there. All you would see is ice and snow… and more ice and more snow.”
You scowled at him now, throwing the leftover wrapper of Grogu’s cookies at his helmet, “And? Snow and ice are stunning. They’re powerful and strong. I’ve only ever been in a proper snowfall once, and I fell in love. The way the flakes float down and.. dance even if there’s the faintest breeze. And then when they land on your skin or your eyelashes like little cold kisses… The sound it makes under your boots when you walk on a fresh fall. And it softens everything, makes it easier on your eyes to see across the landscape… it’s quiet, muffled… Besides, I like the cold.”
Little did you know, Mando was grinning like an idiot under his helmet, adoring the way you defend it to him, the way you describe something as simple as ice and snow. “You like the cold, huh? Then why are you always grumbling that the heating is broken?” The teasing lilt to his voice was evident, so animated and content, compared to his usual cooler, calm silence.
You opened your mouth, then closed it again. “That is… completely irrelevant.” You looked at the back of his head, “What about you? If my choices are so hilarious.”
The Mandalorian made a thoughtful noise, “I wouldn’t say there’s one place in particular… But… there’s a few sanctuary planets dotted around. Places with really pretty, dense forests where you could walk for days and not spot anyone else. They’re protected and safe, no dangerous animals or anything allowed… literally sanctuaries. I’d like to take Grogu there… let him wander and have fun and eat things he shouldn’t without having to look over my shoulder.”
It was the most you’d ever heard him speak in one go, and there was a tenderness in his voice that brought tears to your eyes. This man truly loved his little green adoptive son and would do anything for him. “That sounds... stunning. I’ve heard of those planets and always wondered what they were like...”
He made a hum of agreement, fingers working over the control panel as he put it in autopilot. “One day…” He turned around in his chair, “What about your favourite colour?”
You moved to sit cross-legged in the seat, defying the concept of a chair. “Blue. Darker blues, like a midnight blue.” You swayed your chair from side to side slightly, “Actually, the same colour as the cloak you got me. So well done, kudo’s for you.”
Mando leant back in his own chair, tapping the side of his helmet before resting his hands on his thighs again. “This thing lets me read minds; you know.”
You began pulling the pins from your hair, “Mmhm, and I can fly.” You raise an eyebrow at him, grinning.
He chuckled, watching you intently behind the helmet though you wouldn’t know that, watching every pin get removed from holding up your hair, “It wouldn’t surprise me at this point, princess.” He tapped his thighs absently, “You wanna know the real secret?”
You nodded, reaching in for a pin that had become stuck deep in your hair, the last one. “Surprise me.” Got it. You yanked the pin out, letting your hair fall down and your fingers through it. You sighed a little in relief as you rubbed your fingertips against your scalp, chasing away any tightness from the day.
Mando didn’t say anything. He was too distracted, to struck into silence by the sight of your hair.
The light from the ship and coming in through the windows turned some of the strands to gold, igniting them with that fire that blazed within you – and that he’d been on the receiving end.
His hands tightened over his thighs, because he was overtaken by a craving, a need to remove your hands and feel your hair for himself.
It wasn’t the first time he’d had these thoughts.
Fuck, he’d been having these thoughts since he first saw you. He just hadn’t realised them until that night he’d nearly lost his life and woken up to you passed out on his chest.
He’d frozen, even his breathing stopping as he felt the warm weight of you, even though the armour.
He couldn’t bear to move you, to take away that pressure, the closeness of another human that he had missed for so long.
So, he hadn’t. He left you there. Spent hours watching you sleep, the warmth of your breath slightly fogging up the armour on his chest.
“Lori? Anyone in there?” You tilted your head, watching the man before you that was staring at you intently, his breathing somewhat ragged.
He startled slightly, coming back to himself, “Huh?”
You chuckled, “Where did you go? I was waiting for you to knock me off my feet with your revelation.”
He made a noise, “Uh… I.. actually can’t remember...” He tugged at his glove, an odd gesture so at odds with his usual confident demeanour.
You tilted your head, still smiling a little, “Are you okay?”
Luckily, he was saved from answering by the beeping of the controls behind him.
You’d arrived at the planet.
~
It was hot.
Beyond hot.
The air was warm, the water was warm, you were warm.
And already awake, having just calmed your breathing down from another nightmare, when you heard Grogu, his little coos and gurgled filtering down the hall to you.
The poor little creature had probably woken up from the heat. You had been on this desert planet for a couple of days, opting to stay in and look after the Child whilst Mando hunted down the bounty. The days here were scorching, a dry heat that sucked the life from you immediately. Even the nights were hot, unlike normal freezing desert nights.
Mando had returned this evening, panting from the heat after coming up from the carbonite chamber. “I swear it’s getting hotter out there.”
The cooling system on the Crest was just as temperamental as the heating, so it wasn’t exactly cool in here. The metal floors, which were normally always chilled, were warm underfoot. Mando had let you keep his room, and it was just as hot, being contained in with itself, so you’d been sleeping with the doors open.
Not that it made a dent. Every single closed space was like a heat trap, especially Grogu’s little compartment. So, no wonder he had woken up.
You stretched, then slipped from the cot and made your way to Grogu.
It didn’t take long to settle him, he was all tuckered out from the games you’d been playing today, so after patting his skin with a cool cloth, he had fallen back under.
You were now at the small ‘kitchen’ area in the ship, washing out the cloth. You huffed, splashing some water on your wrists and pulling out the pin that was holding up your hair, and falling out. Grogu had a habit of tugging the ends of your hair in his little fist.
You’d taken to wearing a thin floaty dress to bed, one you’d picked up in that market before it had turned into a horror show. The material was gauzy, allowing the heat to escape your body without it sticking to your clammy skin. What helped enormously was the large cut out in the back. It secured at the back of your neck, and then fell open, exposing almost your whole back before joining again at the base of your spine.
It was probably the flimsiest, most sinful thing you’d ever worn, but it was gorgeous and hey, it did the job.
You rolled your shoulders, pressing the cool cloth to your neck and you couldn’t help the sigh that escaped your lips and you could have sworn you heard a sizzle.
Footsteps behind you startled you, breaking you from your reverie, and then Mando’s voice filtered through the silence, “Are you okay?”
You turned around, smiling when you saw him because he was still in all his armour… not that you were surprised. He must have been boiling though, under all those heavy layers.
You nodded, lifting the cloth from your neck, “The kid was awake, but I settled him down, he was really warm.”
His head was covered, naturally, so you wouldn’t have seen the way his eyes followed a bead of water rolling down your neck, and the unbidden thought of his tongue catching it “Thank you for seeing to him, I didn’t hear..”
Weird. Normally he was so attuned to Grogu, hearing him before he even woke up if you were sitting together. Maybe he was tired, from his hunting.
What you didn’t know, couldn’t know, was that he had been staring at the ceiling for the 3rd night in a row. Having thoughts that he should not be having, his body yearning for things it shouldn’t.
You shook your head, still smiling and turned back to the sink area, “It’s no worries, I was awake anyway so… And you’ve been hunting. You deserve the rest.” You set down the cloth, running your hands through your hair and reaching for your pin to secure it back up. You faced him again, gathering your hair in your hands, “How was it?”
But he wasn’t listening.
He suddenly moved forward, and then he was in front of you. “Wait.” His voice was low, almost strained. There was a husk to it that hadn’t been there before, but it ignited something within you.
You froze, your hands still stuck in your hair. You looked up at him, raising your eyebrows slightly, “What..?” It was only now he was right in front of you that you could see his chest, rising and falling rapidly. “Mando, are you okay?”
He shook his head quickly, his helmet tilted down to you, his hands curling and uncurling at his sides, “Let your hair down.” His voice was still that rumbly order, and it was such an odd request that you did just that, letting it tumble back down again. Your own hands trembled slightly as you lowered them.
A shudder seemed to roll through his body, and he rocked forward on his feet, lurching toward you in a movement that lacked his usual smooth elegance. It was unsteady, unsure.
He stopped when he was a mere few inches away, the closest you’d been to each other since that afternoon.
This close, you could practically feel the heat roiling off of him under his armour, and you tilted your head up to meet him, concern in your eyes, “Mando, you need to go and have a cold shower.. You sound like you’re burning up… do you feel flushed?”
He shook his head jerkily, his hands raising, “Shh… please. I just.. I need to..” He broke off, a sharp intake of air cutting his words.
Something else began to curl through the worry in your belly, like some instinct knew things you didn’t. You swallowed, your voice low when you next spoke, “You need to what..?”
The Mandalorian was shaking, his body tensing and untensing like he was fighting himself, telling himself not to do this. “I.. I need to touch your hair.”
Stars, you could feel the flush that crept up his neck and cheeks, like it burned through his helmet but you stayed completely still.
His words were whispered through gritted teeth, like he was physically trying to bite them back, “I just... I need to do this, please… I’m sorry, but I cant-” He sounded like he was in pain, still breathing raggedly.
Heat flared through your blood, igniting a flame within you that was irresistible. You nodded, letting him see you, “Okay.” Like you could say no to him.
The vocoder nearly didn’t pick up the huff of relief that escaped his lips and he curled his hands into fists again, “Turn around. And close your eyes.” That rough command was back and you were more than obliging to let him navigate this moment.
You turned around, facing the kitchen area, looking over the darkened surroundings before shutting your eyes. It immediately threw all your other senses into overdrive, so you could hear every single rasp of his breath as you exposed your skin to him, and the pounding of your own heart.
“You have to keep them closed. You cannot turn around or look.” There was a desperate plea in his voice, an edge to it that hurt your very soul. He was audibly torn, between his Creed… and this desire that he seemed to have given into.
You nodded again, aching to reach back and reassure him, “I won’t. I won’t open my eyes or turn around until you tell me, I swear on it, Lori.” You let every ounce of truth and understanding seep through your words, praying that it would be enough to convince him he could trust you.
Seemingly, it was, because the next noise that you heard could have struck you dead.
It was the sound of leather rubbing against skin, the friction as they were pulled off, then a soft thump of the material on the floor.
He had taken off his gloves.
He was standing behind you… with his hands bare.
You. A person he hasn’t known for very long at all, and he was partially bare, uncovered.
Your head exploded, a million thoughts racing through it once, sending your heart into overdrive and your own breathing rapid and unsteady.
There was a pause, like he was steeling himself and then… then the slightest sensation, like he was catching the ends of your hair, just brushing them.
That simple movement sent a shiver down your spine, and it was enough to get him to move more. He lifted his hands and then you felt fingers slide into your hair at the back of your head, then slowly, slowly, drag down the length.
You heard a sharp intake of breath behind you, and then a soft mutter, “It’s so soft..” You barely picked it up, even though the ship was silent. The fingers ghosted through your hair again, and his voice was bewildered, “How do you get it this soft in that tiny ‘fresher..” It was like he was talking to himself.
You couldn’t help the soft laugh, a release of tension from this whole thing, “I can’t reveal my secrets, Lori. Can’t have your hair being softer than mine. There’s only room for one on this ship.”
He chuckled, and it ran over your bones like honey, dousing them in such a sweet sensation. “I’ll get it out of you one way or another, princess.”
You rolled your eyes but didn’t get the chance to speak because then his fingers were running up your scalp from the base of your head to the crown, with a light pressure and the feeling was so unbelievably good, that you couldn’t help it. Your head leant back into his touch and the faintest sigh left your lips. “Keep doing that..” Your cheeks flushed, embarrassment crashing over you. Why did you have to say that?
The Mandalorian’s hands had paused, absorbing that soft sigh of pleasure and trying to cool his body. But you had a hold over him, he couldn’t say no. He merely did it again, with a firmer press of his fingers against your scalp, a light scrape of his nails just to get you to make that noise again, to be convinced that you were enjoying this just as much as he was.
You didn’t stop the next sigh, this one louder, more delighted. It was like you knew what the other was thinking, could read each other that well.
He was driving you insane, rendering you speechless just from playing with your hair.
You don’t know how long you stood there for, his hands running through the soft locks.
He lifted it slightly, then made a soft noise. “I didn’t know you had a tattoo.”
A tattoo? Oh right.
It was true, you did. It was a delicate piece, spanning from the top of your spine to just above your hips, lining your spine. It showed the phases of the moon, drawn in a minimalist style, with small stars and additional lines coming out of every other piece.
You nodded quickly, “I’ve had it for years.” Fuck, could your voice sound anymore needy?
“What does it mean?” His words were murmured and then the next thing could have had you on your knees.
You heard a sound that had haunted you since the night he nearly died, the sound of leather sliding over skin. The soft plop as it fell to the floor.
No way. Has he just..
His fingers, his bare fingers ghosted down your spine, following the line of it with a touch so fleeting it almost made you whine.
In fact, it did, a whimper rising from deep in your chest.
He was touching you.
His bare skin, skin that he had sworn by Creed to keep covered and hidden until marriage, was trailing down your spine as light as wings.
Pleasure shot straight though you, making your nerves and blood sing, making your knees shake and your belly hot.
A tug on your hair, a tug that was sharp enough to send a faint tinge of pain through your scalp had you moaning, you couldn’t help it. Your lips parted and the moan fell from them, soft, a little high and drawn.
Mando swore under his breath, his whole body twitching behind yours, “I asked you a question, sweetheart.” There was a hoarseness to his voice that hadn’t been there before, a straining note like your moan had shot right through him. Which is had.
What does it mean… what does it mean? Focus!!
“Um… right. When I was on the run, initially in the beginning, I never had a place to call home. Everything I knew had been torn away, and I could never settle anywhere. Every night, I would look up into the sky and watch the moon. No matter what planet I was on, no matter where I was, or if there two moons or 4, it was always there. I only had to look up, and there was something up there to ground me, give me some sense of comfort. It might look smaller, or be a different colour, but it was still the moon. And it made me feel… safe. Like it was a… a companion in a way. I just had to look a little closer, beneath the colours or the distance and there it was. It was always in the sky, so I wanted to get it tattooed so that it would always be with me. No matter if I was outside, as free as I could be, or inside and trapped.” You flushed a little, “That probably makes no sense and sounds so stupid.”
You could sense the Mandalorian shaking his head, his voice still low and soft, “No.. I think it’s beautiful. And I get it. I move around so much too, there’s only a few things that always remain the same. So I know the value of having something familiar.” He ghosted his fingers down it again, trailing all the way down to where the cut out portion of your dress stopped and then back up again.
When his hand reached the top of the tattoo, he slid it up further, cupping the back of your neck in his broad, warm hand.
It sent electricity shooting across your skin, that blazed as he wrapped his thumb and fingers around either side of your neck, just a gentle pressure there.
You moaned again; you didn’t even try to hide it. Your head fell back, exposing your throat to him in a sign of instinctual submission, even though you knew he wouldn’t kiss you. You didn’t mind, you just needed more, more than this teasing touch, more than the faint brush of his fingertips. Your chest shuddered, knuckles white as you gripped the counter in an effort to stay still, “Lori…” You whined his name, hoping it would spark something in him, would force him to do something.
You felt him shudder again, felt his hips draw back from your body like he was trying to hide just what these noises did to him.
Fuck.
It burned you, turned your belly molten and the power that washed over you was heady. You had turned him on just from your hair, your skin and your moans.
The voice that came out was equally as tight, husky and you might have lived and died inside the low baritone “What is it, princess?”
Your fingers curled around the side of the counter in front of you, and you were glad he couldn’t see your face when you whispered, “Please..”. Your voice was low, pleading and aching.
You felt him shudder behind you, a tiny groan echoing through the helmet.
His next words nearly undid you there and then, “Like I could say no to you.”
Then his fingers pressed into your spine, caressing down your back over the tattoo with such admiration, such warmth that it arched slightly, chasing more of that sensation.
Your head was spinning, convinced you were dreaming, that this wasn’t real.
This didn’t happen between you both.
You flirted, sure. But that was harmless, playful.
This… this was real. He was letting you feel his bare skin, uncovered and unhidden.
And it was tearing you apart.
The scrape of his thumbnail on your skin tore you from those thoughts, ripped you back to the present as it ran down the curve of your back. If your eyes had been open, they would have rolled into the back of your head.
Your head fell forward, back arching completely into him and the sound that you let out was sinful. You could only concentrate on the that sharp, pleasurable hurt that you felt in your belly, the feeling of his other hand as it held your shoulder, holding you in that arch.
Heat pooled low in your belly, and every dream, every thought you’d been trying to suppress about him came blasting into full technicolour. All because of his hands.
Those damn hands you’d been pining over since saving his life.
His head was so close over your shoulder that you could hear the low pant of his breath, the coolness of his armour barely brushing your shoulders as you pressed back into him.
Fuck, did he want this as much as you did?
By the way his hand tightened, he had to. You didn’t know how you knew it, but you did.
You swallowed, licking your lips to say something, anything, spur him on but a harsh beeping suddenly broke through the thick tension on the room. A light was flashing, and by the time the fog of pleasure cleared in your head, he was gone.
Gloves picked up and yanked on, boots disappearing up the ladder into the cockpit to check on the autopilot.
The taut sensation in your body snapped, making you sink to the floor as though the strings had been cut.
You lifted shaking hands to your face, burying them in them with a low noise. Your head was a mess, you couldn’t get over it. Couldn’t stop feeling his fingers on your back, your hair. Hear the ragged pant of his breathing, the rise and fall of his chest against your shoulders.
It was just touch, just the simple act of touch but it had igniting something so fierce within you.
Something had changed.
What the fuck was that?
You sat there on the floor for Maker knows how long, before dragging yourself up and hurrying off in search of a very, very cold shower.
~
You weren’t quite sure how to face him the next morning.
You had taken your cold shower, and it had done nothing to cool the fire in your blood so you had to take the initiative, hoping the crash of the water and the fact you were biting down the back of your free hand would cover the desperate moans you made.
Little did you know, the Mandalorian was going through the exact same thing, back arched, lips biting into his lip to stop the groans.
You hadn’t been able to stop thinking about it, stop thinking about what had occurred between you.
Surely it broke some kind of rules of his Creed?
He had touched you with his bare skin. You weren’t married. You weren’t together. You didn’t even know his name.
Yet he had touched you and.. reacted to you.
Maybe that was just instinct, his body’s natural response to such things.
But he had carried on… until you were disturbed anyway.
Your head went round and round in these circles until your body had calmed down enough to sleep.
You rose early, wanting to be washed, dressed and ready and doing something to occupy you before you had to think too much about what you were going to say.  Maybe just… Good morning?
Sure. Good morning was fine.
Normal.
It totally didn’t reveal what you’d had to do in the shower, or the thoughts you were still having about it.
You had this discussion with yourself all the way up the ladder of the cockpit, and when you rose to your height, you blurted it out in a cheery voice before you could bail, “Morning!”
Breezy. Nailed it.
The Mandalorian was sitting in the pilot’s chair, fiddling with controls and levers, gloves firmly on. “Good morning. Did you sleep okay in the heat?”
You nodded, sinking down into the pilots chair and feeding Duru a treat, “Yes, thank you. Finally.” You stroked under Duru’s chin, your eyes straying to those hands as he slide them over some switches.
The same hands that had cupped the back of your neck and trailed fire down your spine.
A flush started to creep along your cheeks, so you quickly looked away, “Did you?”
The light bounced off of his helmet as he nodded, “Yes, thank you.”
Polite. His words were polite. Almost... distant.
Okay… Okay, so maybe he just feels awkward?
You bit your bottom lip, worried if you should say something.
No, leave it. He no doubt feels over-exposed and maybe shy about what happened last night. Don’t bring it up. Just act normal.
You nodded faintly to yourself and returned your attention back to Duru.
~
Mando was ignoring you.
You had been trying to deny it, but he most certainly was.
Yesterday, he had engaged in talking to you now and then throughout the day, but only passing comments and a few spare words.
You had spoken more when you were beating the shit out of each other.
You kept telling yourself that it was just lingering awkwardness from how to go back to normal after that night, but the gnawing in your gut told you otherwise.
It had been shouting at you this morning when he had parked the ship on a planet, announced he was going hunting and he’d be back in a few hours.
Then he’d just gone.
You had waited for him all day, mooched around the ship, played with Grogu and Duru and tried not to worry.
You sat up for hours, even when the little ones had gone to sleep, waiting to talk to him.
You’d convinced yourself that you should talk about. You should tell him you didn’t expect anything from him. That you didn’t hate him, that he didn’t hurt you or anything like that.
Just to tell him whatever you needed to stop this frostiness.
You had it all planned, had every phrase and comment worked out to stop this atmosphere.
About 15 minutes ago, you’d heard the ramp open. 3 minutes after that, the hiss and echo of the carbonite chamber.
Then you’d heard him go and check on the kid, then go to his quarters.
And now, it was his booted feet on the steps to the cockpit that held your attention.
You took a deep breath, prayed to the Maker and spun your seat to face him as he rose up.
The mere sight of that beskar-clad body set your heart thumping, but you coaxed an easy smile on your lips anyway. “Hey, how was the hunt? Cause you any trouble?”
Mando didn’t turn his head to look at you, just padded over to his seat and spun it to the control panel, “It was fine. Easy.” His words were clipped, not harsh, just… efficient. Straight to the point.
You swallowed, your courage faltering a little.
Mentally, you scolded yourself. You didn’t falter in the face of a man who’d touched you and now wouldn’t talk to you. You didn’t whimper and pander to a tense atmosphere.
You sat up a little straighter, pulling your shoulders back and you looked over at him.
Now or never.
“About the other night-”
“I’m taking you to Nevarro.”
What?
You had both spoken at the same time, your eyes now bewildered as you beheld him. “What?”
He said nothing, just fiddled with some controls.
“Mando, what do you mean?” Your voice was shocked, but steady. Did nothing to betray the shock that had just hit your chest like a punch.
You didn’t hear him swallow, only heard his words, “I’m taking you to Nevarro. We’re on the way now.” He said them softly, evenly.
Hearing it again only made your heart drop to somewhere around your waist.
He was leaving you. Dumping you on some planet. And going.
Your hand tapped your leg as sort of nervous habit, and then the words were out, “Is this because of the other night?”
It was his turn to sound bewildered, his head just turning to the side, but you knew he couldn’t see you in his peripheral, “What? What do you mean?”
Your heart was starting to beat uncomfortably in your chest, a sense of shame beginning to creep over you, “Because of what happened in the kitchen. I didn’t see you, I didn’t see your skin.”
Mando turned to face you, one hand still on the panel, his hair half turned but head rotated all the way to look at you, “No, no it’s not because of that-“
You cut him off, “You didn’t… you didn’t offend me. Or hurt me. And I’m sorry. I’m sorry if.. if my reaction made you feel awkward or think something. I don’t.. I don’t expect anything from you, if that’s what you’re worried about. I never have, so please don’t think that.” You flushed, the shame colouring your cheeks. You couldn’t help it. But this was the reason, right? The only reason why he would be dumping you.
He shook his head, “Stop. Stop..” His voice softened slightly, “No. It’s not because of… that. I know you didn’t see me. And I know you don’t expect anything from me.” He took a breath, “I’m taking you to Nevarro to keep you safe. That’s all. I have friends there, Cara Dune and Greef Karga. They’ll look after you. They’ve already set up accommodation for you, so you don’t need to worry about that.
They already knew?
Something like hurt flashed in your eyes, colouring your tone, “They… You already planned this..?” There was no bite in your voice like you would normally have in this situation, you were too shocked by the sudden change in direction your journey was taking.
Mando tilted his head, “I contacted them whilst I was on the hunt… I wanted it set up before we got there, so you wouldn’t stand out to anyone looking.” He still looked at you, “Is that okay?”
You sensed you wouldn’t have a choice in this. So you decided to take the high road. You wouldn’t whine about this.
You smoothed your expression over into a mask of calm, “Yes… I was just a little surprised that’s all. But thank you, really. I’ll… set about packing my things.”
He sounded confused, his head tilting back to watch you rise from your chair, “We have a couple of days yet.”
You nodded, “Oh, I know, I just want to make sure I have everything. And all the things I want to steal from you.” You laughed, even going so far as to nudge his shoulder before escaping.
You were gone to quickly, so you wouldn’t have seen the way he slumped in his chair, dropped his head into his hands. You wouldn’t have heard the pained sigh that escaped his lips at the thought have having to part with you.

~
The Mandalorian stood at the top of the ramp with you, staring out across the dusty, volcanic terrain of Nevarro. Your new home for… however long.
You said nothing, running your fingers along the edge of your cloak, observing the landscape and trying not to let any emotion show on your face. You had kept up natural conversation the past few days. Saying nothing of the wrenching pain that tore in your chest every time you remembered you were departing.
Mando cleared his throat, one arm holding Grogu and the other hand resting on his hip in a gesture that was becoming painfully familiar, “Cara and Greef know you’re coming. They’ll be waiting in Cara’s office for you.”
Grogu was sulking, squirming every now and then to try and get out of Mando’s grip. He had screamed the whole morning, and only calmed down when you hugged him and sung to him on the way here.
You nodded, also trying to ignore the thoughts swirling round in your mind as to why he was leaving you here. Was it because of your argument? The way you had broken down in front of him? Or was it because of the other night? The way his fingers had run through your hair, and then trailed down your spine, mapping your tattoo. His bare fingers. The things he’d whispered to you, “I just... I need to do this, please… I’m sorry, but I cant-”
“I’ve been thinking about this for days..”
Had he known then that he was going to leave you here? Or was it after that, that he’d decided he had broken one too many rules and had to get rid of you.
Words floated over to you, and you realised he was talking again so you hauled your attention back to the conversation at hand.
“-safe here. No one will come looking for you. Greef has taken all the pucks that have come through with your name on them and Cara will do sweeps every couple of days to make sure.”
You looked down at your feet, a bitter feeling leeching through your veins that was getting stronger with every moment you got closer to leaving the Crest.
“Hey… look at me..”
It was that honey softness of the Mandalorian’s tone that finally had you looking up at him, your expression perfectly masked to hide every ounce of emotion in you aside from a calm neutrality.
He tilted his head a little, turning his body toward you, “Please don’t think I’m dumping you here. I had planned to bring you here since I destroyed the puck and the fob.”
Like that made you feel any better.
He must have read the flicker in your eyes, because he stepped closer, his hand lifting to your upper arm, “I want you to be safe.” You could almost feel his eyes boring into yours, “I am more than grateful for everything you’ve done for me. And the kid. More than you’ll ever know. But, travelling with me.. it only increases the target on your back. People know you’re with me. I don’t want that for you.. you deserve to be free..”
And what about what I want?
You only smiled, forcing your expression to one of a lighter one and you nudged him gently, “Hey, I get it. You have to get rid of me because I’m showing you up on hunts. Can’t have anyone destroying your infamous reputation.” You rolled your eyes, laughing even if it did send daggers into your heart.
And his.
He squeezed your shoulder playfully, then dropped his hand. “You’re hilarious. I told you, the day you beat me is the day the stars implode.” You could feel a line of humour in his voice though, and it softened your shoulders, made you relax.
He was doing this to keep you safe. He had planned this for weeks so you could have a break, a chance to rest.
So, you lifted your head a little higher, your smile becoming more real. “Thank you, Mando. For everything. I can’t ever repay you for this, for what you’ve done.” You motioned to the outside.
He nodded, his hand resting at his sides again now, “We’ll call it even.” His head remained focused on you, lingering on you and then he reached into a pouch and held out his free hand, “Here.”
You let him drop the objects in your hand, a small stack of credits.
“It’s not much, I know, but it’ll be enough to get you some food and supplies you need. You don’t need to worry about a place to stay, Cara will show you but… You can get what you want and need.” He withdrew his hand slowly, almost reluctantly.
You swallowed, closing your hand around the credits and you slipped them into the pocket inside your cloak. “Thank you..”
The Mandalorian merely nodded again, leaning back against the threshold of the ramp, his thumb absently rubbing circles on Grogu’s belly.
It seemed that there was nothing else to draw this goodbye out, so you took a breath, straightening your cloak. “Well… I guess I’ll say goodbye then.” You looked up at him, then stuck out your hand for his, realising only a few seconds later how dumb that was.
Before you could pull your hand back, he reached out and clasped your hand in his own, wrapping his fingers around your distinctly smaller hand. “Goodbye… princess.” You heard the smirk in his voice, and you couldn’t help the chuckle and the eye roll again, not failing to notice the way his hand tightened involuntarily and then withdrew.
You looked at Grogu in his other arm, who was still avoiding looking at the pair of you, wriggling in his father’s arms. You bent down to draw your face to his level and you stroked his ears, “I’ll miss you, little guy. Make sure to keep your dad on his toes, okay? You gotta make up for both of us now.” You pressed a kiss to the top of his head, feeling his little hand pat your cheek with a mournful noise. Tears burned the back of your eyes, so you leant back, instead picking up Duru so she could say goodbye.
Grogu cooed sadly again, stroking Duru’s cheek, looking up at her with his glossy eyes.
You let Duru but her head against him, chitter a goodbye and then you stepped back, allowing her to climb up your shoulders as you looked up at Mando.
You just watched him for a moment, his armour reflecting the light on one side and then, with a soft inhale of courage, you turned and walked down the ramp, Duru padding at your feet.
You had only just cleared the ramp, stepping onto the hard, compacted ground when Mando called out, “Wait.”
You turned quickly, hope blooming in your heart, in your expression though you tried to stop it.
He had made a step onto the ramp, body poised like it was trying to run to you but he was holding back. He hesitated, almost as if he were torn with what to say – or what not to say, but all that came out was, “Ret'urcye mhi.”
You couldn’t help the shiver that licked down your spine, the way his voice turned into dripping honey when he spoke Mando’a. “What does that mean..?” You prayed he couldn’t hear the slight hoarseness to your tone.
He tilted his head down to look at Grogu, then lifted it back up to you, “It means goodbye…. And maybe we’ll meet again..”
Your heart swelled a little, a flush of pain going through it but you smiled softer, your expression melting and you inclined your head slightly, “I would like that.. very much…”
There were a million other things that threatened to roll off your tongue, pour from you but before they could, you turned around, walking toward the town and feeling his eyes on you the entire time, burning into the back of your head like a fiery brand.
You were about 4 metres away when you heard Grogu start crying, when your own tears broke through and spilled down your cheeks. You kept walking, even when your vision began to blur and go fuzzy.
So you didn’t see the way Mando hugged Grogu closer, whispered, “I know, kid, I don’t want her to go either.”
You’d be okay. It would be fine.
So you and the Mandalorian were parting. It was no big deal. You had helped each other; you had returned each other’s debts. You owed each other nothing.
The sound of engines whirring filtered into your ears, and you waited until you heard the Crest lift from the ground before turning round.
You paused, wiping your cheeks as the ship that had become a haven of sorts lifted into the sky. It hovered for a second, as if hesitating and then shot up higher, taking with it the two people that you had come to mean more to you than you realised. It felt like the Razor Crest had taken your heart with it.
How comes you hadn’t realised before how much they meant?
Too late now.
You remained watching the sky, long after the ship had vanished into the atmosphere.
With a shuddering breath, you wiped your cheeks. You kissed Duru’s tail, and then returned to walking toward the town.
You’d be okay… right?

Bargaining with Beskar, Chapter 2 (The Mandalorian x f!reader)
It was then you noticed the open wall next to you. The steel panel was slid open to reveal a vault packed corner to corner with more firepower than you had ever seen in one place. Your eyes roamed from blaster to rifle to flamethrower, noticing that not all of them were made for five fingered hands. This wasn't just an armory, it was a trophy case.

"Med pack... junk....junk....spotchka?....is that all you've got?"
You were bent over a deep supply crate, your legs barely touching the ground while you dug through what you had hoped would be the food stock. There were several banged up tins of rations and a handful of miscellaneous junk, but nothing that looked real food. You were clean and dry after your shower, but the energy that had been spent in this very supply room just an hour or so earlier had to be replenished. "Where’s the rest of it?"
The silence coming from the cockpit was expected, but still frustrating. With a huff you grabbed two food tins and made your way through the old ship towards the ladder. At the top though a small antechamber you found your new comrade seated in the pilot chair, fussing with the buttons on the console. On either side and slightly behind his chair were two other passenger seats, though the one on his left was missing a good deal of padding. The cockpit was poorly lit save for the lighted console and the dusty starlight overhead. Though you were in the air, you could tell you were still on Tatooine. Hooray. Why are we still here? The great Dune Sea stretched out on all sides, sparsely dotted with sand people villages, but you couldn’t see any of the large space ports such as Mos Eisley or Mos Espa. In the ships’ darkness you couldn't tell what the lumpy thing was in the other chair, probably blankets or laundry. You went to toss it off the seat when a pair of huge black orbs peeped out from the heap of fabric.
"The fuck is THAT?!" You rocketed backwards, dropping the food tins in the process. The bug eyed creature made a soft cooing noise and lifted the rest of the blanket off itself, allowing two gigantic green ears to pop into view. It didn't look like a threat, in fact it looked kinda cute, but you knew it could still be dangerous. A pair of stubby three-fingered hands made grabby motions at you, the little creature giggling at your bewildered face. " Where'd you find this thing, is it some kind of pet?"
"He's not a pet." Finished fiddling with the console, Mando turned in his chair to readjust the blanket that had slumped off of the small beastie. It squealed happily and wiggled in its comfy cocoon before noticing the food tins that were still on the floor. He pointed the tiniest claw at them and chirped at you, demanding to be fed. "You'd better give him one of those before he gets mad."
It took you a moment to process what he said before scooping one of the tins off the floor, peeling back the lid and placing the dish in the seat next to the little thing. He greedily scooped the mystery mash into his tiny toothy mouth, gibbering between bites. You picked the remaining tin off the floor and leaned against the door frame, watching it happily chow down.
"If it's not a pet then what is it?"
"He's my..." the Mandalorian paused, fishing for the right words to say, "...he is my child."
That was not at all the answer you expected, if he had said emotional support gremlin you would have been less confused. The baby was still making a mess of his dinner, almost dropping his plate before Mando snatched it and set it carefully back in his lap. You had seen first hand that there was a human under all that metal plating, and your tired brain fizzled trying to make the connection between the two very different beings. Mando could tell by your puzzled face that he had some explaining to do.
He told you the tale of how he had been charged to bring the baby in as a high credit bounty, but after he used the reward to get new armor he went back and stole the child away from its captors. He talked about the Mandalorian concept of a 'foundling' and that he himself was one too. At some point you had popped your food tin open and started eating, though you were so captivated by his story that you couldn't remember doing so. When he'd finished you set your empty dish on the busted chair and gently held your hand out for the child to grab with one mush covered paw, who babbled excitedly at his new friend.
Behind you his parental guardian was rigid, ready to take you out if you made one wrong move against his precious cargo. Though he had been the one to steal you away and forgo freezing you in carbonite he still didn’t exactly trust you, your reputation as a hunter-killer was what had driven your bounty so high. He knew you were disarmed, but what else could you be capable of? However, you weren't paying mama-hen Mando any mind. Instead you let the baby play with your hand a bit before he returned to his food. You decided that the only place left to sit was on the floor. Squished into the tiny space between the passenger and pilot seats was cramped, but it gave you a fantastic view out the rounded transperisteel window into the vastness of the night sky.
“Your story sounds awful familiar.” You turned your attention to the metal clad man, watching him fidget with the steering controls. “You abandoned a guild reward for anothers wellbeing, like I did. Someone that didn’t deserve to be dragged back in cuffs. Is that why you picked up the puck on me? Some kind of kindred spirit something or other?”
“We’re nothing alike.” He was watching out the window, focused on flying the ship to unknown destinations, but he was bouncing the leg farthest away from you. So when the cogwheels turn in your head, the machine moves somewhere else. If you hadn’t experienced his human body first hand you could have easily convinced yourself he was a droid.
“Now that’s not true. You told the guild to get fucked because your moral compass was pointing the other way. I didn't just let that quarry go y'know? It was more than that. There was... there was someone she had to get back to. And the New Republic was just gonna lock her ass up and for what? It wasn't right." You remembered that Togruta woman, pointing a blaster at you with tears in her eyes and her belly swollen with a child that did not belong to the man she was being forced to marry. A few thousand credits weren’t worth another child being made an orphan, and you gave her your ship to escape in while you led hunters on a wild-bantha chase away from her. You knew it drove the guild insane but you wouldn’t have it any other way. A tiny green foot poked itself out from under the blankets by your head, bringing you out of your reverie. On reflex you tucked it back into the safety of his blankies.
Though you thankfully didn’t remember much of your early childhood, you knew you had come from Corellia. You didn’t know if you had parents or siblings, but there had been many other young street urchins in your alley behind the shipyard, and all you had then were each other. You never planned on having any kids yourself, but they were still something to be protected. At all costs, if necessary. “I’m guessing this little dude is happy with that decision.”
Mando had begun to take the ship closer to the ground, it was almost totally dark outside but you could see on the radar there was a large mountainous formation up ahead. Carefully, he landed the beat up craft on a sturdy outcropping of rocks, kicking up whirlwinds of dust and sand. Far out over the sand you could see a collection of lumpy looking ruins that were slowly succumbing to the march of the dunes. You guessed this was where your quarry was hiding out.
The baby was starting to get sleepy, his huge eyes disappearing slowly as the weight of his eyelids became too much. His little head rolled forward, threatening to toss him off his seat. Your big mean bounty hunter heart couldn’t take it, so you scrambled to your feet and scooped the baby up in your arms, sitting down in his seat to get him situated in your lap. He fussed and squirmed a bit, but you had learned a no-fail trick from the Corellian ship builders that would often help to sneak orphaned children onto their ships and off that skughole of a planet towards a better life. Many years ago they had done the same for you.
“Oh, I have sailed the midnight sea from Hoth to Arvala-5.
Seen the Cloudshape Falls of Alderaan, met rocks that were alive.
But soon I came to realize as world to world I roamed,
That nowhere in the galaxy could really be my home.”
The songs you knew were often sang by whole crews of starship sailors, loud enough to shake their durasteel walls, but you dropped your voice low and soft to turn the star-shanty into a lullaby. The baby was watching you with glittering eyes, he had stopped his wiggling and curled up tightly against your chest.
“So call the navigator, set the course and go!
We've stars and planets to explore, my wild heart tells me so.
Beneath the metal decking I can hear the engine sigh
And all I need is a mighty ship and a staaaa-aarr to guide her by”
A tiny yawn betrayed his wondrous eyes, and he gave up and closed them shut, rubbing his little hands on his face. You lowered your voice to almost a whisper.
“I've seen a million beauties and I've known a million fears,
And life is what I've found between the laughter and the tears.
Still I will sail the last frontier through worlds both tame and wild,
And marvel at their strangeness with the wonder of a child”
Soft snores were your only applause, the baby having drifted off mid stanza. You hummed a few more lines of the song to be sure he was asleep. The cockpit was as dark as the surrounding sky, but the glint of silver caught your attention. Starlight reflected off the beskar plates in a way that made the black of his visor seem darker than the heart of a collapsed star, and just as deadly. The Mandalorian was watching you intently, completely motionless.
The precious moment with the baby had made you very forgetful of the dangerous situation you were actually in. You had been captured, you were this man’s prisoner and yet here you were all cozy in the chair with his adopted son in your lap. You glared back at him, matching his fierce gaze when the little green bundle moved to get more comfortable, one tiny hand catching claws in the top you were wearing; a tunic that did not belong to you.
“Here, you take him then.” Your voice was hushed so as not to wake the child, and you raised him up gently to try and unhook him from your shirt. Immediately there were two gloved hands coming to lift the baby off of your lap. He was a monolith of leather and metal, but the way he pulled his son in close was so gentle that all the ferocity of his profession dissipated like mist. Mando carefully tucked the blanket under the sleeping little baby and wrapped him up tight before slowly turning away from you and the flight deck to head down the ladder in total silence, leaving you alone in the dark.
You watched him go, the top of his shiny silver head disappearing into the floor. Without the sounds of life in the cockpit the quiet of the night weighed heavy on your ears. He still hadn’t told you why he had kept you out of the carbonite, all you had done was let him use you as his personal play-thing... and maybe murder off some of his bounty hunting competition, but that wasn’t much to go off of. You had done worse for much less. Put your skills to better use, that’s what he had said. Absently you toyed with the end of your sleeve, no, not your sleeve. His sleeve.
That was another thing, what reason did he have to show you hospitality when his first interaction with you had been so violent? Binding you and marching your ass through the desert after he had fucking shot you. Your escape plan had almost worked, ha! All you would’ve had to do is tire him out and run but that had backfired entirely. The apex of your thighs still thrummed with sensation, warm and blissful. Though you’d had lovers in the past you usually didn’t still feel them so deeply afterwards. The smell of the fresher soap still clung to your body and clothes. Clutching at the collar of your sweater you pulled it to your face and breathed deep, letting the heady scent of it fill your lungs.
“Let’s go. We have work to do.” The modulated voice coming from the ladder startled you from your guilty indulgence and sprang you to your feet, but the source of the voice was already back down the ladder. You sheepishly followed suit.
“You plan on telling me what we’re up to exactly?” Down below the Mandalorian was loading himself with ammunition, each and every slot on his many bandoliers was packed to the brim with charges. His pulse rifle was slung over one shoulder, clanking up against a new piece of equipment you hadn’t seen before. Some kind of jet pack maybe.
“I have two bounties to catch on Tatooine. One of them conveniently fell into a sarlacc pit. The other one's hiding out down there." A bounty fob blinked red in his hand; quick flashes indicated that the target was close by. “If you help me with this, you’re off the hook. I’ll tell Karga you’re dead and the guild will stop sending hunters after you. But-” He turned to face you, he was holding your beat-up old back pack by one ratty leather strap. "If for one second I think you'll turn against me, I'll take the half credits for your corpse."
"You're one to talk!" You hissed, storming up to the gunslinger with the ferocity of a lothcat. "You kidnapped me! I didn't ask to be here."
The man in question didn't budge under your verbal assault. "Do we have a deal or not?"
He forced your backpack into your arms to accentuate his point. You ripped it from his grasp and stormed to the other side of the cabin. Everything was still inside; a pack of bacta patches, a few mementos, three busted tracking fobs and some blaster charges. Speaking of blaster-
"Where’s my gun, Mando?" Your question was answered when you turned back to face him. He was holding it by its barrel, extending the grip towards you. You met his visor with contempt, but took the old blaster from him carefully as not to cause a misfire. It would be nice to not be on the run from a guild you had pledged your loyal services to for so many years, that now wanted you delivered back to them in carbonite; and you knew that Karga would trust his favorite hunter. The life of a moisture farmer wasn’t what you dreamed of when you escaped Corellia. Fuck that. "Yeah, it's a deal. One hunt and I'm gone."
If he didn't want you to ogle his wares he should have closed the panel, but instead he joined you at the wall, picking up some extra plasma cartridges and a vibroblade with a curved handle, which he pushed into your hands. "Will that be enough?"
Either you trust me or you don't, pick a side, tin can. You didn't answer him right away, opting to pull a chest holster and another couple of blasters down from the wall. You cinched the holsters tight and tucked a blaster in on either side, slung a disruptor over your back and stuffed the knife in your boot. Once you had everything in place you stuck your fists on your hips like a superhero with a confidant nod. "Yeah, that should be good."
Mando was watching you with intensity, his visor going over each of your weapon choices. He tugged on your holsters’ cross straps to make sure they were secured. You rolled your eyes at him, "I know how to dress myself, sir."
No answer. Typical. He stopped fussing with your straps and turned back to the wall, selecting a heavy multi-ammo bandolier. He stepped closer to you, wrapping both arms around your waist to fit the belt in place on your hips. You tried to convince yourself that it was the cool beskar of his chest plate pressed up against you that sent a shiver down your spine. The physical contact was over as quickly as it had been initiated, and then he was back in the vault fishing out the tiny silver explosives that fit neatly into the circular latches on either side of your belt, handing them to you without a word. Finished with his selection he pressed a few buttons on his vambrace, one to slide the armory shut and another to summon an egg-shaped hover crib to float to his side. Inside its shell the child was sound asleep, a heart-melting smile on his tiny little face. As adorable as he was, you furrowed your brow in confusion.
“Is he coming too?”
“Where I go, he goes.” Mando said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world. He strode back to the supply crate you had been digging through earlier and packed a handful of rations into a bag for the journey through the dunes. Cool desert air gusted into the stuffy cabin as the access ramp fell open, and the three of you headed out into the darkness of Tatooine.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your dreams were hazy and feverish, shots of blaster fire flickered through the fog from unknown assailants. The smell of blood and blast plasma strong in your nose even while unconscious. You saw the sneering face of a Twi’lek twist in agony and purple blood painted his face before he winked out of existence, replaced in your mindscape with bloody hands. Your hands. Then there was cold beskar on your cheek and strong arms hauling you from the carnage. Harsh wind in your ears and the ground spiraling away beneath you. The howling wind so loud you couldn't hear the questions being barked in your face. Pain, the smell of burning skin, then nothing. You felt objects moving frantically nearby, and something soft and green was pressing into your ribs. Your eyes, heavy as they were, fluttered open to see two huge black orbs staring up from your side where bright red blood was staining the sheets under you. Is that ... my blood?
“Hey green bean...what’cha up to?” Your voice was hoarse and weak, scratching its way out reluctantly past chapped lips. Talking made your head pound, you reached up to cradle your aching skull when two leather tipped hands caught yours and held them steady.
“Easy... Don’t move too much. Please.” Your hands were gently set back down at your sides, shooting pain up your arms. A large black and silver body was hunched beside you, frantically sticking bacta patches to your skin.
“Mand...do? What…what happened?” Your voice was barely a whisper, so faint the recycled air of the cabin threatened to whisk it away.
“You got the bastard, but that fucking Twi' managed to get a shot off in your gut point blank before he went down. You shouldn't have survived that but you did.” Is that a compliment? He was wrapping a long gauze bandage around your arm, fixing the bacta patches in place so they could do their thing. It hurt, but not as much as you thought it should have. Down by your side the child had rolled into you face first, passed out cold next to an emergency cauterizer. Mando nodded at his sleeping son, “And if it wasn’t for him, you’d be dead for sure.”
The baby? How is he involved with this? Thoughts echoed loudly in your skull, and you decided that thinky time was over. The little guy had the right idea, you should sleep now, embrace the comfort of the dark behind your eyes, let it swallow you whole.
“Hey hey hey! Not yet. Stay with me, ok? You need to drink something. Here.” An armored hand slid under your head, urging you to sit up just enough to take a drink out of the metal canteen pressed against your lips. “You need to stay awake, just for a little while.” Cool water graced your dry mouth and dripped onto your chin. Embarrassed by your mess you tried to wipe the droplets away but once again your arms were halted in place. A rough piece of fabric dabbed at your face.
“I’m not a baby, Mando. I can take care of myself.” The creeping sting of blast-burn that still scalded your skin told you that might not be true. The bacta was just starting to seep into your bloodstream, but it would take some time to work its magic.
“I know that. I was with you down there in the fray. A rancor would have been less terrifying to face than you. But right now I need you to hold still.”
Another compliment? Or was that sarcasm? You’re losing your edge, tin man. You tried to roll your eyes but the effort made your head spin; you glanced around the cabin, trying to avoid meeting the visor that was pinning you to the cot. Strewn about the floor of the ship was what was left of your holsters and weapons, splattered with red and purple blood. You couldn’t be sure, but it looked like one belt had been blasted to smithereens, torn strips of leather the only indication it had been there at all. Farther away you saw a dark block in the carbonite freezer. The Twi’lek from your nightmare was frozen solid, though from his limp posture you guessed he had stopped moving long before he was put in the chamber. One of his long lekku had been cut clean off, and even in carbonite you could see the wound was fresh. Something long and curved stuck victoriously out of the center of his chest. Your vibroblade, lodged to the hilt in his sternum.
Mando was still kneeling on the floor by your side, and though you couldn’t see his face his hunched shoulders gave you the feeling that he was distraught. He still had your head resting in his palm, his thumb absently toying with your hair. Maybe it was the bacta running through your system that made you start to feel warm and gooey on the inside, but the sensation of his hand on your scalp felt... nice. Nice to be touched in a way that wasn't just for survival. Though you had already felt his hands on your body this was something else entirely. Sincere. Maybe it was just the first time somebody near you wasn't trying to kill or capture you. You foolish girl, you've already been captured. Are you so lonely that a gentle touch makes you melt? Maybe it's you that's losing your edge.
"You should have left me for dead, cashed in on that half credit reward."
"That is not The Way." His mantra was rehearsed, spoken as easily as he drew breath, but you could hear the exhaustion in his voice.
“Well... thank you for not letting me bleed out.” You could see the top of the baby's green little noggin still curled up against your side, though the part of your ribs he was leaning on didn’t have a single mark. You looked for the blast wound that Mando was supposedly talking about, but aside from a handful of plasma burns your skin was smooth and healthy; the pool of dried blood under you was the only indication anything had been there at all. What kind of mando magic is that? And what did he mean about the child? Your first thought was how disappointed you were there wouldn’t be a good scar. Your second was realizing your top was missing. Shreds of it were still on your shoulders, but the front had been ripped off completely to get to your vanished wounds. Mando seemed like he didn’t even care, he had been so focused on patching you up that the idea of modesty was thrown out the window, but you couldn’t help teasing him. “There’s not a scratch on me, Mando. You just wanted me topless, didn’t you?”
His thumb on your scalp froze, his visor going from your face to your chest with rapid snaps. Without letting your head drop he used his other hand to tear his cloak from his back and throw it over you and the sleeping baby. “Better?”
Party pooper. “Yes, thank you.” Why is he being so nice? He must have ulterior motives, right? Why keep me alive if not to cash in on that bounty? You decided to push his buttons some more. “This bed sucks. Is this why you're so crotchety? Because you sleep on this Maker-forsaken thing? It’s making my back hurt.”
The cot you were on was spartan at best, more of a cloth covered bucket than a bed. It was recessed into the wall opposite of the armory, bits of machinery and droid parts hanging over the space above you. There wasn’t much of a gap between your head and the durasteel plating of the ship’s hull. Your teasing was rewarded with a long, tired sigh. The hand that cushioned your head moved down to your shoulders, pushing on you so that you sat up straight. You scooped the baby off of your side and into your arms, trying to ignore the dried blood from your wounds that stained the sheets before swaddling the sleeping bean in his father’s cloak. The metal man rose from the floor, letting go of you just long enough to remove his cross-belts and unlatch his chest plate, setting them on the floor with a dull thunk. He squished himself between the wall and your back, his dorsal plate scraping loudly without its cape. He scooched one armored leg around you until it was between your hip and the wall on your side, pulling you into his lap and turning his whole body into a pillow, letting your torso rest on his. He was used to the sharp metal bed frame, but that didn’t mean you should be subjected to it.
“Is this ok?”
You could only nod, your cheeks flushing red with a mix of emotions. It was more than ok, his formidable body was warm and comfortable. His arms wrapped around your waist, helping to support not only you but also his foundling. The spice of him was strong now with him on your back, worn leather and metal and that damn fresher soap that was making a fool out of you. Underneath his steady breathing the sound of something rhythmic caught your attention, it was quick and faint, but unmistakably the sound of his heartbeat. His heart is racing. Listen to that engine purr.
Behind you a man with a name you may never know watched your chest slowly rise and fall with each breath, not with lust but something unfamiliar though not unwelcome. He could hear his heartbeat pounding in his ears, whether from the ordeal of keeping you alive or the fact that you were in his arms again he couldn't be sure. He sighed, trying to convince himself to calm down, but the deep breath he took only flooded his senses with the essence of you, threatening to melt the beskar off his head with the heat rushing to his face. He couldn't help the way his fingers traced over your skin, careful not to undo any of the bacta patches. He jumped slightly when your hands found his, but the weight of the child still in your arms made it difficult to reach your fingers. The glove you were touching was suddenly empty, and a bare hand snaked out from under the cloak that kept you modest. With the press of a button the child’s pram floated its way over to you from the supply crates. The baby’s adopted father carefully lifted the sleeping creature off your lap and into his hover crib, another button press on the vambrace and the shield door slid closed.
His hand returned to the safety of the cloak, pulling the other glove off before finding your fingers again. His skin was so warm you couldn't help but imagine his hands somewhere more intimate. Evil, evil bacta... Maybe you wouldn't have to.
"I should thank you properly." It was impossible to hide the tiredness of your voice, but he was close enough you only needed to whisper. His grasp tightened around you, your once plush pillow was now a rigid wall of muscle.
"You should go to sleep." the sound of his baritone words so close to your ear made your skin prickle. Too late for that. Slowly you guided his hand down your belly until your tangled hands bumped into your belt line. A low growl rumbled out of the modulator.  “Cyar'ika... you need to rest."
The alien term of endearment made you hum, but you ignored his words of warning and pushed his hand under the tough fabric till his fingertips found your heat, both of you gasping softly at first contact. His free hand fumbled with your button, and after some difficulty you undid it for him along with the zipper. With space to work, with his wrist moved freely, lazily rolling a calloused fingertip against your clit; remembering his lesson from the first time he experienced your body, his touch was light as a feather.
There wasn’t much you could do for him in the position you were in, so you leaned back against him and relaxed, letting him enjoy you at his own pace. The bottom of his helmet was pressed into the crook of your neck, and though it was sharp you could feel something warm and soft underneath it. So there is a real man under there. Scruffy stubble brushed at your skin and sent goosebumps down your chest. Under the beskar his eyes followed the prickling trail that lead under the tattered cloak you still wore to your breasts, watching the way the fabric pointed where your nipples grew hard for him. His other hand couldn’t resist finding its way to your pert peaks, rolling them between his fingers in that way he knew flushed you with heat. Soft gasps rewarded his ears as he worked at your breast and clit, rubbing them in tandem. Your hips rolled into one hand and your back arched into the other, urging him to help you build your climax. He obliged, adding a second finger to pinch your clit softly between strong digits until you fell apart around him.
The pressure that was building behind you and pressing into your spine told you that if you wanted more from him you would have to give him a better angle. You started to get up, but the hands on your sensitive spots held you in place.
“What about your injuries? I don’t want to hurt you.” What injuries? There’s nothing left! His voice was filled with sincerity, a far cry from your first encounter. You didn’t answer him, instead you found each of his hands and squeezed them with a hum, asking him to trust that the bacta had set in and made you comfortable enough to move from your impromptu med bay. He slid his fingers out from your burning core, dragging the wetness from your cunt over your skin until his palms were on your back, helping to push you up off of him. The teeny tiny bed frame made it difficult to spin yourself around until you were facing him, and even more difficult to kick your pants off as you passed over top of him, but he never took his hands away from you to keep you steady until you were seated in his lap.
Straddling his waist you rolled your hips over where his cock was hidden from you, making him shudder under your legs. His arms glided from your knees to your hips, languidly making their way up your sides and past your breasts to the last remaining tatters of the black knit sweater he had allowed you to wear. Hooking a thumb under its ruined edges, he slid it up over your arms and cast it away into the darkness of the ship. His hands went right back to working at your breasts, massaging them like dough in time with your grinding hips. You took a moment to admire how he looked underneath you, his remaining armor glinting in the hazy ship light as his hands searched for every sensitive inch of your chest. You knew from legend that his helmet could never be removed in front of you, but you’d never heard anything about the rest of his clothes. Where his chest plate had been was a strappy flak jacket dotted with magnetic fasteners. Your hands went slowly to the first clasp, and the hands that were so indulged in you froze, his body stiff between your legs.
“Is this ok?” The irony of you repeating his question from earlier back to him made your lips turn in a sly smile.
“Y-yes.” His voice was nearly imperceptible, and you realized that he was shaking. You looked to his visor, watching him nod in consent before you continued. He dropped his hands to your hips, pulling down on your thighs and rutting up into you while you busied yourself with the complicated under armor until it fell away at his sides, revealing a pair of suspenders and an identical black knit tunic as the one that had been shredded off of you. You didn’t have the energy to peel every article of clothing off of him, so this would have to do. Without his cloak bunched around his shoulders you were able to see the flesh of his throat, so warm and inviting that you wanted to sink your teeth into it.
You bent down to nibble at the exposed skin, and the filthy moan that rattled out of the helmet sent shivers down your spine. The taste of him was exquisite, better than you could have imagined under all that fabric and leather. The overwhelming cocktail of his scent straight from the source made you bold. You kissed your way around the edge of his helmet where the metal met his skin until you found his pulse point and made good on your desires. His body convulsed when you bit down, sucking at the tender skin until you left blooming marks that would be there for days.
“Cyar'ika... Please...“ There was that word again, you didn’t know what it meant but the way he breathed it like a prayer felt like warm honey in your belly. Releasing his tormented neck you ran your hands down his broad chest until your thumbs bumped the leather suspenders that lead you down to his waist line where you were able to tug the edge of his shirt free, giving you a delicious window of his tummy; well-muscled and dusted with dark brown hair.
“What’s wrong, tin man? Nobody ever touch you like this before?” He was still shaking while you ran your hands under the edge of his shirt and through the soft treasure trail of fuzz from the top of his belt line to the bottom of his ribs. He couldn’t answer you, his breath caught in his throat at the sensation of your hands on his skin, but you were starting to put the pieces of his puzzle together. No, probably not.
You decided not to torture him any longer. The fabric of his pants was nearly stretched to capacity and wet with your slick. You had to stretch one leg out onto the floor to get enough of a footing to lift yourself high enough off him that you could free him from the canvas prison. His cock nearly burst out of its confines, and your face flushed red at the sight of him standing proudly at attention, twitching in your hands with a flood of shimmering precum made just for you.
His chest was heaving, ragged breaths forcing their way out of his modulator before you’d even taken his length. You used your hips to notch him at your entrance and his grip on your thighs clenched like a steel trap. Slowly you lowered yourself onto him, letting him fill you until you were stretched wide. Your eyes met his visor, though from the way it was tilted you knew he was watching himself disappear into you. His arms wrapped tightly under your ass as he thrust into you hard enough that he lifted you off the cot, quickly scooting both your bodies down the bed until he was flat on his back. You tried to stay upright, but his pounding soon had your head spinning until you were falling forward into his chest, digging your arms around his shoulders in a way you were becoming familiar with. Your hands found their way to the back of his helmet to where his hair line started, sneaking a few fingers under the metal edge to tangle in his curls. The Mandalorian’s hands were on your waist, holding you in place while he rocketed up into you, filling the ships cabin with the sound of wet slaps. His thick cock hit different from this angle, grinding up against the sweet spot deep inside you with each rut until you started seeing stars behind your eyes. He could feel you building up around him and he quickened his pace until you were gasping his name.
“M-mando! I... I’m gonna....” Your muscles coiled with heat until you burst, your sweet cunt fluttering around his still pumping cock until he went cascading over the edge of ecstasy with you, his helmet vibrating with a guttural roar. His feverish body shook, giving you a few short thrusts to milk the cum from his cock until it spilled out from where he was lost inside you.
His shaky arms held onto you so tightly, as if you would blast away into space if he let go. The endorphins flooding his head made him want to pour his heart out and tell you everything, bare himself in body and soul for the first time in his life. He wanted to tell you how nice you had looked in his clothes, how the loose knit fabric draped over your breasts was a work of art; even more so when you were standing before him armed to the teeth in his hunting trophies. How seeing you slice that fucking Twi’lek to ribbons was more graceful than any ballet. The sight of the bloody hole that had been burned into your side had made his skin crawl. Mando wasn’t ready to explain the child’s healing powers, he barely understood them himself; but if it wasn’t for the baby he would have been burying your corpse instead of tending your wounds. Instead of experiencing your living body like he was now.
His heart fluttered at the thought of his foundling healing you with his baby sorcerer magic, his tiny green paws pushed on your side where the blood was spilling from your wound. The thought of you dying for his bounty made him sick, but pride flushed the sensation away when he thought back to that first day with you up in the flight deck. How when his baby boy was restless that you acted, not with malice but with tenderness and care. He'd never wanted to rip his helmet off faster in all his days than when you sang his son a lullaby, the sweet tune of it filtering through his sensory equipment, and he longed to hear it as it was meant to be. In that moment he had been entranced, but the fierce glare of his visor had made you feel threatened. He didn't want that. He wanted to make you feel safe. The same way you had made his child feel, the same way you made him feel now. Like the galaxy itself couldn’t tear you from him.
But the ugly truth was that soon it would all end when you both went your separate ways. All the feelings he wanted to confess to you died in his mouth, leaving a bitter taste that brought him back to reality. You still straddled his waist, and though the blood had long since left his cock it still sat neatly in your heat, letting him feel your gentle heartbeat around him. Carefully he pulled himself free from the apex of your thighs and rolled you both sideways onto the unforgiving cot, letting gravity shuffle you down until you were nestled in the crook of his arm. He couldn’t help brushing a stray lock of hair from your face, meeting your half lidded eyes with his own behind the visor.
“I don’t think I can get to the fresher this time.” Your voice was barely a whisper, and the edges of sleep crept unbidden to your eyes; the traumatic activities of the day finally winning over your endurance. “You’re probably going to have to burn these sheets.”
Mando hummed with indifference, though for you he would burn all of Tatooine down if you asked. All the lovely thoughts that had danced through his mind came rolling through again, haloed in the warm light of afterglow. Only one made its way past his lips, sneaking out of the helmets’ modulator like a prayer.
“How does the song end?”
“Mmm?” You were so close to sleep, so cozy and full of cum that you knew would be a fun mess for morning-you to clean up. You wracked your brain trying to remember what the hell he was talking about. The star-shanty? “Why, do you need a lullaby too?”
“N-no. Just curious. When you leave, my foundling might ask me about it.” Liar. The calloused hand gliding up and down your spine brought the original contract you made with him ringing through your skull. One hunt and I’m gone.
“Leave? I’m not going anywhere until I see you tell Karga face to face that I’m rotting in a sarlacc pit. No take-backs. That old dog will probably dance when he hears he won’t have to part with his credits and I want to catch it on holo-corder.”
The rumbling sigh deep in his chest sounded more like an engine powering down than a mortal man, and it told you more than words ever could. The arm you had around his chest was met with strong fingers that intertwined with your own. He doesn’t want me to go. Who are you, Mandalorian?
“Tell me anyway? Please?” His arms tightened like a fortress around you. His words were distant, echoing out from somewhere in dreamland instead of right by your ear. Alright you big softie, if you’re going to beg me. You sighed heavily against him, trying to recall the songs of your distant past.
“The nights are long between the stars, and lonely too for me,
I wonder how I might have fared with home and family.
But the bonds of friendship I have formed will last my lifetime through,
Security is not for me, my dreams are all of you.”
The same soft snores that had been your original encore with the baby now ghosted in your ear, muffled by the mysterious beskar helmet but still unmistakable. Like father like son.
The weight of his arms around you was like nothing you had ever felt in your years on the run. You had traveled so far and met so many living beings but not once had you let another share your bed while you slept. You could get used to this. The thought was the last you had before sleep overtook you, your body slumping against his while you dreamed of silver and steel.
ldh - frostbite
lee donghyuck [f. requested (female reader), 1197 words] frostbite
Tumblr media
“heads up!” the sounds of blades scraping the ice, the heavy gear thudding as players collide with each other, and the shouts from them are all that can be heard in the rink. “coming in on your left-” too late. even with haechan’s warning, jeno was blindsided with the hard hit. the crash could be heard from anywhere in the stadium. everyone halted and rushed to the fallen teammate. worry washed over haechan, him hurriedly saying, “dude, i’m so sorry. are you ok? are you hurt?”
a strained groan leaves jeno. he tries to regain his composure and balance, ultimately wincing in pain. “i’m fine, don’t worry. i’m just going to sit out for the day.”
winwin, the captain of the hockey team, chirps in, “then practice is over. i’d rather we get you home and iced up than continue on without you. everyone good with that?” they all agree, helping him stand up to sit on the bench. the players surround him and make sure the now injured star-player gets help. “you have a ride home, right?”
“crap… my ride isn’t picking me up for another two and a half hours.” jeno gives out an exhausted sigh. “it’s ok,” he says in a convincing tone—more to convince himself rather than his teammates, “i’ll just call her and say we ended early. oh, she’s going to be so pissed when she finds out i got hurt.” jeno throws his head back, realizing the inevitable lecture.
“her? she? who’s supposed to pick you up?” mark chimes in this time. the rest all having their ears perked at the thought of jeno with some girl. for all they knew, he wasn’t interested in anyone, so who exactly is this girl he’s mentioning?
“well besides the identity of mystery-girl, why would she be pissed? you literally got hurt.” a confused tone in yangyang’s words. jeno stays quiet, not bothering to pay attention to their questions. he only buries his face in his gloves, mumbling to himself.
“look, i’ll explain in a bit. can someone hand me my phone, please?”
the members scramble off, heading to the locker room, sungchan and ten opting to help jeno. after everyone is showered and dressed, they make their way back to the arena. they all keep pushing jeno to fess up and explain who mystery-girl is. he begins to describe her, using phrases like “bookworm, volunteers at the library afterschool, super smart, doesn’t really talk to anyone.” as if on cue, haechan says your name as the doors to the rink slam open.
“jeno? what the hell happened? are you hurt? are you ok?” you storm in, rushing to find the one you named. “where did you get hurt? how did it happen? answer me!”
“jeez… one question at a time, maybe. i got knocked down by hyuck, he gave a warning but i didn’t dodge in time. my shoulder and knee are kinda jacked but if i rest, i should be good for our match on friday.”
a relieved sigh leaves you, like a weight being lifted off your shoulders. “ok… so you don’t have to go to the hospital. that’s good to hear…”
yangyang whispers to mark, “she doesn’t seem pissed to me-”
a quick slap is delivered onto the back of jeno’s head. now, the angry words are fuming out of you, “do you have any idea what i just went through to get here? i had to leave work two hours early to save your ass. i get a call from you in the middle of my shift, telling me that i need to pick up my imbecile of a brother cause he got hurt. are you stupid? how many times have i told you? what do you do when you see someone charging towards you?”
jeno mumbles, “get out of the way…” “no! you stand your ground so they fall from the impact, not you! idiot! swear, i ought to beat your ass for this…”
“please don’t,” he says meekly.
“get your bag, we’re going. i’m dropping you off at your dorm and then you’re on house arrest.” “what the hell? you can’t just do that. you can’t put me on house arrest.” “uh yeah, i can. unless you want to face the consequences, i suggest you listen to me. now, come on. i’m going to the car. if you’re not there in five minutes, i’m driving off without you and you’re not getting rides to practice or games for the next month.” before he can respond, you’re already out the door.
“did i hear her call you her brother?” ten asks. the rest all stunned at her demeanor.
“yeah, she’s my twin. not many know cause for some reason, she doesn’t want people to know. now, if you’ll excuse me, i need to go. i’ll text y’all when i get home. see you guys later.” “umm… am i the only one that found her yelling and going off on him attractive?” haechan asks his teammates after making sure jeno was far enough to not hear.
“dude, seriously? that’s what you were thinking about this entire time?” haechan nonchalantly shrugs, ignoring mark.
it’s not until the morning of the friday before their match when donghyuck sees you again. jeno didn’t want to risk anything, asking winwin to pick him up. even so, you head to the rink by yourself. you didn’t expect to see anyone there, considering you arrived before seven in the morning.”you wanna explain why you’re here hours before the rest of your team is even supposed to show up?”
“game day always gets me nervous. it’s sort of a ritual for me to show up early, get some shots in beforehand. what are you doing here, and why aren’t you wearing any gear? i mean, you already have a stick and puck but at least wear a jacket, it’s freezing. next thing you know, you’re getting treated for frostbite.”
a light laugh is heard coming from both of you. “i can handle myself.”
“oh?” an amused smile adorns hyuck’s face. “your brother plays hockey and yet here you are, on the ice before him.”
“oh please, he wouldn’t be playing if it wasn’t for me in the first place.” “what’s that supposed to mean?” now, he’s intrigued.
“why don’t i just show you?”
“are you challenging me?” “are you doubting me?” without another word from donghyuck, you’re pulling a deke and scoring before he can blink.
“when the hell did you learn how to do that?”
“i’ve been playing longer than jeno. i still help him out from time to time. coach him, practice with him, you know how it goes. i just chose to focus on other things. hockey’s an escape for me sometimes.”
“well, if you ever want to really get back into it, i can always ask coach.”
“i’ll keep my options open…” did you say that because you actually were interested in joining the team, or did you just say that because of who was asking? it was the latter, but you wouldn’t admit that until the aforementioned wormed it out of you on your first date about two months later.
He promised.
And you were foolish enough to believe him.
You were foolish to think you were different.
You were foolish to think you really got to know the real him.
You were foolish to think that everything he told you was real.
You were foolish to think that when he told you he loved you he meant it.
You were foolish to think he’d come back.
You, a warrior, a fighter, defender of the throne of Asgard, lied helpless on the ground, broken in pieces as you’re told by Odin that Loki was gone.
And he was dead.
You mourned him.
The ache never going away, day after day, that stupid statue just another thing to remind you that he was gone.
He wasn’t coming back.
Until he did.
And you realized how much of a fool you were.
And you realized everything you thought you knew was a lie.
So you left.
 You left with the promise you made to yourself that you would never return to Asgard.
In your rage, you were blinded when you demanded Skurge open the bifrost and send you to the furthest planet from your homeland.
 The thought crosses your mind that if it had been Heimdall, he wouldn’t have let you go, talked you into reason and asked you to stay.
If it had been Heimdall, Thor would’ve caught up to you in time instead of just missing you when you left.
You didn’t know where you were going and you didn’t care. Your only thought was to put as much distance from yourself and Asgard as possible. You landed in a gross pile of debris when you first arrived, and from there worked your way up to one of the favorites of the Grandmaster- you were dubbed Scrapper 451 and second in most captures to Scrapper 142. Time works odd in space, you’d been there for three years- completely developed a new life under your new alias.
You’d bring in life form after life form to the Grandmaster, always pleasing him by bringing him potential fighters.
You worked alone, you preferred it. The only friend you had was Scrapper 142 and that was hardly a friendship- more just a rivalry you both had your fun with. There was a mutual respect, and a feeling about her you couldn’t explain, but that was it.
When you met Mando, you almost killed him. You had heard a tip from a local shop owner a ship had landed rather roughly, and you made haste to be the first one to investigate, determined to beat 142 if there was a capture worth making.
Carefully navigating your way through the wasteland, you had finally found the ship in question. It was a model you had never seen before. You stay crouched behind a pile of trash, your stun gun aimed at the ship waiting for it to open.
You stopped and lowered your weapon when you saw the armored passenger had a very small creature by his side. A baby.
You hadn’t seen a baby on this planet since you’d landed. Sure, people have children, but you had never seen anyone bring their child to Sakaar. All the children whom you’ve met, had been born there- no one with a child willingly travels to this part of the Galaxy.
A metal man and a green baby. You scoffed. What an interesting duo.
You took in the appearance of the armored man. Sakaar had a very basic premise that determined your survival. Are you a fighter or are you food? This one was very clearly a fighter. Not necessarily one that you think could be a gladiator- not the right type. But you could tell by the way he walked out of the ship, he was a force to be reckoned with. The baby was really throwing you off of your game. You could have this man halfway back to the Grandmaster by now if he wasn’t traveling with a kid. Sakaar has not yet made you completely heartless, as much as you tried to be. You decide to compromise your position, in a hope of being able to just talk. Learn why he’s here.
No one comes to Sakaar. It’s never on purpose. Lost souls are dumped here. Yet, this man seemed like he was the only creature to intentionally travel to Sakaar like he was just passing through. If you couldn’t bring him in, maybe you could at least salvage parts from the ship.
“What’s your business here?” You ask, from behind the pile where you hid. You could see him but he could not see you. You watch as his first move is to close the floating pram, protecting his child first as he desperately looked around for the source of the voice.
“I’m passing through,” he replies, looking around at his surroundings.
“Nobody just passes through,” you reply. “No one comes here on their own accord. No one leaves once they arrive. What is your business?”
“I’m looking for someone,” he says nondescriptly, further irritating you. You stand up, slowly, your gun still pointed at the man as you walk closer.
“Who?”
“Bounty”
“You’re a bounty hunter?”
“No, I came here for vacation.”
“Don’t be a smart ass.”
“Don’t ask stupid questions.”
“Who are you here for?”
“I don’t know.”
“You don’t know?”
“I don’t know.”
“What kind of bounty hunter are you?”
“One of the best.”
“Oh really?”
“Don’t test me, Princess.”
“If I’m a princess what are you?”
“Knight in shining armor?”
“Are you really hitting on me right now?”
“Only if you’d want me to be.”
“Gods.”
You can’t see his face from under his helmet but you could feel the smirk he was making. He clearly didn’t view you as a threat and it really annoyed you. Maybe you came off too friendly? No, you’re still pointing a gun to his head.
“Who are you?” He asked.
“Scrapper 451,” you said blankly. “Who are you?”
“You can call me Mando.”
“Mando?”
“Yes.”
“What kind of a name is that?”
“What kind of a name is Scrapper 451?”
“It’s a title.”
“Not going to tell me your real name?”
“Are you gonna tell me yours?”
“How-?”
“I’m not stupid.”
“What’s a scrapper do anyways?”
“Bring mouthy tin men in in exchange for a generous amount.”
“You’re a bounty hunter?”
“You could say that?”
“Are you going to turn me in?”
“That was my plan.”
“What’s stopping you?”
“The baby.”
“Slave catcher with a heart of gold?”
“I’ll get that on my tombstone.”
“Sooner rather than later I hope.”
“Ouch. Mando, I thought we were friends.”
“You know I didn’t mean it, Princess.”
“Who are you here for?”
“Someone who calls themselves the God of Mischief.”
You freeze, and you lower your weapon. You’re stunned. You hadn’t heard that title in years, and although you never forgot about it, you were great at pushing it back so far away where you couldn’t access it. The man is able to read your body language and can tell you know the man he’s looking for.
“He’s not here,” you finally manage to say, your knuckles turning white at how tightly you grip your blaster.
“He is here,” he says slowly, pulling out a bounty puck. Clear as day, Loki’s face shows up on the holographic screen. Your stomach churns.
“He’s not here,” you insist. “If he was, I wouldn’t be here. Trust me.”
“So, you know him?”
“Not at all.”
“Really?”
“Really,” you take a few steps backwards to walk away. “I wouldn’t stay on this planet long if I were you. Sakaar has a way of just pulling you in.”
“I think I can manage.”
“Get lodging,” you advise with a smile, “the next person who finds you out here won’t be as nice as me.”
With that you left, leaving the Mandolorian dumb struck. What was this planet?
Mando knew well enough to take your advice. With the Crest secured, he and the Child made a journey into the city.
Your words lingered in his mind. He knew you had information about the bounty you were withholding. He needed to run into you again. He reasoned with himself it was for the sake of catching the bounty, but part of him also wanted to see you again. He just wouldn’t admit it.
He found a place where he could get a room. An elaborate casino, with ornate decorations and loud music playing constantly. A large bar and lounge also attached. He received his room key and ignored the festivities that occurred in the bustling establishment- his first order of business to make sure the Child was settled and would be safe in the room. He regrets his decision to not ask Peli to watch him, but he knew he’d be distracted being so far away.
He figured he was far enough across the galaxy; he wouldn’t need to worry about those after his own bounty or the child’s. But he realizes that he forgot about needing a sitter. If he absolutely needed to, he could bring the child with him, but that was not ideal. Especially, since gauging your reaction at the mention of his new bounty, this didn’t seem like it would be any easy task. He sat down on the bed in the middle of the room, and pulled out the puck- reading over what little information he had.
He needed to find you again and desperately needed any information you’d be willing to share.
You were worried. There was no way Loki was here. You knew he wouldn’t have come for you, even if you thought about it when you first arrived. You thought if anyone would come after you, it would’ve been Thor, convincing you to return to Asgard and cleaning up another one of his brother’s messes. It hurt when no one from home reached out once in the last three years. However, you decided you were better off because if Thor had convinced you to return home, you’d have to face Loki again, and you were adamant on keeping your word you would not see him again.
His funeral was devastating. Although many on Asgard did not care much for Loki or his antics, the throne had lost a prince. It was a dark day. Weather on Asgard usually always seemed to be perfect, but on the day of Loki’s services, the God of Thunder was so distraught, he was unintentionally causing a gray and gloomy sky. Thor and you were affected the most.
You stood next to Thor as Odin spoke, but your gaze stayed fixated on the ground. It felt so unfair and you felt an indescribable amount of pain and loss. Your face was stained with tears, as was Thor’s, and you felt like you had just cried until you were physically unable to do so. He was gone and you couldn’t get him back.
Odin watched you solemnly throughout the services. He had told you that he knew how much his son loved you and how despite his absence, you are still considered family. He insisted you had an open invitation to be at the castle whenever you wanted. You could only nod and offer a very, very meek thank you.
You took advantage of that offer, and honestly, you knew you were overstaying your welcome under the palace walls. You found yourself coming, and spending the days in his room, trying to just feel him in anyway you could. You’d run your hands across the broken spines of his books, look at the kingdom from the view of his window, laying on the bed over the elaborate bedding to just try to feel him. You didn’t even know what you were hoping to feel, but you somehow thought this would help you be closer to him.
At events on Asgard, you continued to wear green, almost like your own twist instead of just the traditional black of mourning. It felt right to wear green in his memory, but it was nothing more than just another attempt to pretend like he was there.
You could imagine how he would react to seeing you wearing his signature color. When he was there, he looked at you like you were the only living soul in the room that mattered. He’d shower you were touches of affection and whisper nothing but praises to you, making you think he had actually loved you. This was back before you knew how foolish you had been, blinded by your own puppy love and your affections towards him.
You now sat in the lavish home of the Grandmaster. He always had hundreds of people in his home, a constant party, a group made up of Sakaar’s elite being entertained by drinking, drugs, or entertainment of sorts from his um… staff. Drink in hand, you sat cross legged on an elaborate circular couch lost in thought while a dancer performed on a table in front of the group you sat amongst. You didn’t even look up- you hated this part of earning the Grandmaster’s favor. You hated these parties with your whole being. They were hedonistic and you would avoid them if you had the choice. However, you knew the Grandmaster would take offense if you were not in attendance.
Music was loud, and there were many flashing lights. You couldn’t rely on any of your senses to navigate in a place like this, but that was intentional. The Grandmaster set this up on purpose. His parties were meant to be a completely immersive experience. It was probably great for those who wanted to be there, but for you, you wanted to escape and slip out as early as you could.
You weren’t interested in the company and you weren’t interested in the weird substances you didn’t recognize being passed around. You didn’t want to relax, and honestly, these attempts to relax always seemed to make you feel worse. Being sober at these events was invitation for horrible eye strain and a hefty headache.
“451! 451!” you heard a familiar voice call over the loud music in a sing song voice. It was the Grandmaster. He would be the only person at this party who would actually be looking for you.
“Grandmaster,” you smile, getting up and walking over to him. You kiss both his cheeks quickly as a greeting. “You look radiant,” you smile, the compliment going right to his head as they usually did.
“451! Look at you, let me see the ensemble,” he would say, talking a step back, and you would twirl once. It was a long golden dress that draped your body, with a plunging neckline. It was paired with golden arm bands and an elaborate gold necklace. You also had gold flakes throughout your hair. “Stunning,” he praised, “I wish 142 would be more involved like you 451- she’s the best, but ugh, she doesn’t know when to relax. Anyways, I called you over to meet a new friend of mine.”
“Are you replacing me, Grandmaster?” You say with a tone of mocked offense and it makes him laugh.
“451, there is no replacing you- you are the three B’s,” he chuckled, lightly guiding you over to another area of the party. “beauty, brawn and brains, a very rare combination indeed.”
“You flatter me, Grandmaster,” you laugh. If you went along with him to keep him happy, the Grandmaster was actually a pleasant creature to interact with. You had the ability to match his banter and he liked that about you.
“Anyways, anyways 451,” he says, as he remembers his train of thought, “I want to introduce you to someone. He’s devilishly handsome and talks like some stuffy aristocrat, he arrived here a couple of weeks ago and I was finally able to convince him to join us.”
“Did he say where he was from?” you ask curiously.
“Get this,” he chuckles, “Ass-guard. What a hoot, am I right? Anyways, there he is. We got to get whatever stick is out of his butt. I’m hoping you’ll help me to uh, loosen him up. Loki! I want you to meet one of my best, 451.”
Based on the look of surprise, you knew he didn’t expect you to be here. He looked like a deer in the headlights and it angered you that he was here. You felt your teeth clench, and you wanted to just get out of here as fast as possible.
“451 is one of the best scrappers I have,” the Grandmaster talks, “Of course, nothing compares to my Champion but she is ruthless. She’s second in the most gladiators she has been able to bring me.”
“Impressive,” Loki smiles, and you feel the urge to just scream. “I’m Loki, prince of Asgard.”
What an asshole.
“It’s an honor to make your acquaintance, Your Majesty,” you say between your teeth. You could kill him.
“I’m gonna mingle,” the Grandmaster announces, “I’m leaving you in 451’s hands.”
“Please let me explain,” he immediately tries to say as soon as the Grandmaster is out of earshot. You scoff.
“I’d tell you to drop dead if you hadn’t already,” you spit, “Don’t talk to me. I want nothing to do with you. Get off this planet.”
“Please, just allow me,” he begins.
“Fuck off, Loki,” you snap, and make a fast exit. You leave him standing there bewildered and you watch how stunned he looks as the elevator door closes behind you.
You felt small again. Like all the progress you had made gone in a single instance, and you knew tomorrow you’d face the Grandmaster but for now you didn’t care. You craved a warm bed and sleep more than anything else in the world.
You had planned on staying here so you didn’t know how you were going to make it back to your little apartment. You assumed just walk. You weren’t armed and that was always a terrible idea on Sakaar. You didn’t have anything except a dagger that was fixed to your thigh under the dress you wore. You wished you had your blaster.
“You clean up nice, Princess,” a voice modulated voice you recognize says when the elevator door opens.
“Mando,” you say curtly, stepping out of the elevator.
“You clean up nice,” he states.
“Thank you,” you reply.
“Leaving the party so soon?” He asks. You nod.
“Not really my scene. What are you doing here anyways?” you ask, crossing your arms over your chest for a little bit of warmth.
“I received a tip that my target might be here,” he answers, you nod, not elaborating on that you knew for a fact Loki was upstairs. “Did you see him?”
“No, I didn’t.”
Chapter Three of Memories Reforged ( Din Djarin x F!Reader )
Word Count: 5.8k
Summary: You finally make it to Nevarro to cash out your bounty, but end up revealing some details about yourself in the process
Warnings: some talks of gender (Din mistakenly uses the wrong pronouns for you, you correct him later), suicidal ideation (reader was saved from death but wishes they hadn’t been)
A/N:  you finally get to reveal a bit more of yourself in this one!!!  I hope you all like it! as always let me know if you see any mistakes or anything!
Somehow, you’ve never been to Nevarro. You’ve been to most of the Outer Rim at this point, but you’ve never stepped foot on this volcanic planet. You weren’t really sure what to expect, but two people waiting to greet the insufferable mandalorian you were traveling with, was definitely not one of them.
“Mando!” The unfamiliar man extends his arms out in welcome as the ramp to the ship lowers fully, the shiny mandalorian nodding in response as he descends. “And how's my favorite baby doing?” The stranger leans forward to smile widely at the baby in the mandalorian’s arms and give him a little wave. The baby coos happily back at him, reaching out to mimic his wave.
“It’s good to see you both alive and well.” The woman next to the both of them gives the mandalorian’s shoulder a rough pat, and he nods back in her direction too. Apparently that's the only way he knows to greet people back.
You stand there awkwardly, but mostly surprised. He has friends? People who are happy to see him? You have been dreading every second you’ve had to spend alone with this reflective asshole, how could anyone actually enjoy his company? It's probably the baby. They only like him for the baby. Yeah, that makes more sense.
“And who’s this you have with you? Care to introduce us to your friend here?” You’re snapped out of your thoughts and realize everyone is looking at you, the stranger man giving you a welcoming smile. You start to descend the ramp yourself so as to not be rude, stopping just besides the mandalorian you arrived with.
“He’s here on guild business. We’re splitting a reward.” He nods in your direction, but you're confused. Was he talking about you? Like...he nodded in your direction while talking about you, but ‘he’? It must have been a mistake. You ignore it and don’t say anything.
“Splitting a reward?” The stranger man spits out, shocked. “What for?”
“I ran into him on Jakku. He helped me take down the bomber and we agreed to split the reward in exchange for travel.” The mandalorian explains. You tilt your helmet up to look at him questioningly. First of all, you helped him? Oh he's got it all wrong, he tried to steal the bomber from you. And second, why does he keep referring to you as ‘he’? Suddenly it dawns on you--your helmet. He’s seen what you look like without your helmet, and you're half his size, but despite that he’s picking pronouns based on what your helmet tells him.
This helmet wasn’t made for you, it bears the masculine T shape visor, instead of the more rounded feminine shape traditional in mandalorian armor. It’s really the only distinguishing factor, mandalorian culture doesn’t really care for individuality. It doesn't matter who you are, just that you’re a strong warrior. Hell even all of the pronouns in mando’a are gender neutral. Well, you still don’t like him, but at least he’s respectful.
“Well, if that's the case, lets go inside to talk business. Forgive me for my lack of manners, I’m Greef Karga.” He turns to you, and places his hand over his chest as he introduces himself, before notioning to the woman next to him, “And this is Marshal Cara Dune.”
You nod in return to the both of them, offering your own name readily. “It’s a pleasure to meet the both of you.” The both of them look surprised, confused you just gave your name, and that just confuses you.
“Well, I guess we don’t have to worry about figuring out a distinction between the two of you now, do we?” Karga chuckles out. You just look between the two of them, then to the mandalorian besides you. Weren’t they friends? Did he never bother to introduce himself? That doesn't make sense to you. You decide to let it go for now, you’ll ask him about it later.
You follow as Greef Karga leads the group of you through the city. It’s far nicer than you were expecting considering you know guild operations were being run here. There were bustling shops and children running and playing, the smell of food from nearby stalls filled the air. Colorful tapestries and awnings lined the streets, shops selling all kinds of fanciful wares.This isn’t what you were expecting at all. Cara’s marshal status must be no joke, she must be half the reason this place is running as smoothly as it is. She ends up having to part with your group halfway into town to deal with something. She’s polite when she excuses herself and makes a point to mention that it was nice to meet you before she heads out. She’s nice. Her strong exterior is only strengthened by her winning smile. You wonder how her and the mandalorian met, how they ended up friends.
The rest of your group makes it to the nearby cantina and settle at a table. The baby has fallen asleep in the pouch the mandalorian is carrying. You’re a bit surprised how nice it is inside, it's not a dirty grimy bar, but a more respectable establishment. This was clearly a place of business.
“So,” Karga starts, “I understand you're a guild member, but I don’t recognize you.” He folds his hands together on the table between you.
“My usual outpost is on Carajam.” You explain as you pull out your bounty puck and slide it onto the table in front of you. The mandalorian next to you takes out his several pucks and puts them onto the table next to yours.
“Ahh, I see, Carajam. Quite the hub that one is.” he nods gathering the pucks infront of him, but pausing before he grabs yours. “Unfortunately, I can only cash out one of these.” He holds up the mandalorian’s puck for the bomber up, “So I’ll split the reward for this one between the two of you.” “Cash mine out instead.” You nod in the direction of your puck on the table.
Karga raises an eyebrow at you, “yours? I’m sorry my friend, but there's no difference. The rewards are the same.”
“Check it, they’re not the same.” You lean back in your seat, getting comfortable. Karga looks confused as he picks up your puck instead. He activates it, and looks down at the flickering image in shock. He notions to one of the guards stationed nearby and they appear at his side almost instantly with a holopad.
“How did you get a commission price this high? On such a low level bounty too…” His voice trails off as he navigates through the menus of the holopad.
You just shrug, “Just really good at catching bounties I guess.” You relax even further, leaning an arm over on the back of your booth. Your body language is oozing confidence. He just hums lowly to himself while he continues to fiddle around on the holopad.
“I assume you use a different name for guild operations?” He looks up at you and you freeze. You haven’t had to mention your old alias in years. Your regular contact knows you well enough that you never have to supply it.
“I do. You can take it off my puck.” You try to keep cool, notioning towards the puck still sitting on the table. “It’s a guild bounty, it shouldn’t be a problem.”
“I wouldn’t be a problem if I knew you maybe.” He lowers the holopad and sets it on the table before leaning forward in his seat, “I’m sorry my friend, but this is my first time meeting you, I’ve got rules to follow you know. I need to verify that it's actually your puck, and not a stolen one.” You tense at the accusation, turning the gaze of your visor to the floor beside your booth.
“This is ridiculous,” you spit out, “that's my puck, and that's my bounty frozen in carbonite. Just give me the reward.” You can’t help how defensive you sound. You really don’t want to say it outloud. It’s such a simple thing, but it feels too painful, and quite frankly you're embarrassed. Especially considering the mandalorian next to you. You realize you’re probably coming off as suspicious at this point, but you don't care. There's no way anyone could understand how difficult just saying the name he gave you out loud actually is for you.
“Look, I’m not trying to be difficult,” he reasons, changing his tone to try and sound more genuine, “But I’ll have to cash in Mando’s puck instead of yours if you won’t give me your registered name.” Your whole body is tense now. The confidence that once oozed off of you is gone. Your struggle to give up your alias is obvious to anyone, even with your helmet still on.
Finally you sigh, you can’t afford to lose those credits. “It's Laar Sennar.” You breathe out, quieter than you want. You think maybe it was too quiet for anyone to actually hear you, but then you notice the mandalorian next to you, snap the gaze of his visor to you, and you know he heard. His gaze also confirms your suspicion that he knows mando’a. Of course he does, what mandalorian doesn’t?
“Thank you, Laar Sennar. See? Wasn’t so hard was it?” Karga smiles at you then picks the holopad back up to look you up. “And there you are!” He exclaims when he finds you and looks over your file. The smile on his face fades, and before he says anything you already know what he sees, “Oh, I’m sorry about your partner.” He looks up from the holopad and gives you a compassionate look.
Despite knowing it was coming, it still stings in your chest. Just like your alias, no one mentioned him anymore unless by accident, and even that was rare. “It's fine.” Is all you can muster, but even that comes out short and forced, your hurt clearly audible in your response. You’re making an absolute fool of yourself, are these credits even worth it? You let out the lightest sigh. You’re not even sure it registers through your helmet’s modulator, but that would be for the best.
“Well, now that I’ve confirmed this puck to be yours,” Karga sets a stack of credits on the table in front of you and the silent wall of beskar next to you, and splits them in half, sliding each in their respective directions, “here are your credits. Mando, here’s your reward for your other pucks.” He pulls out some more credits and slides them over to the mandalorian next to you. “Now in regards to new jobs, I’ve got a few options. However…,” he pauses as he shifts his gaze between the both of you, “Perhaps if the two of you were willing to work together again...I’ve got a bigger job I could give you.”
“Bigger how?” The mandalorian next to you speaks for the first time in what seems like forever, and you're surprised this is what makes him speak. Was he actually considering working with you? The thought of being forced to work with him again sounds awful, it would take way more credits than Karga is about to offer you for you to take it.
“Sixty Thousand. For each of you.” You think you choke on air. Sixty thousand credits?! Suddenly working with this shiny tincan of a man doesn’t sound so bad afterall. Karga pulls out the puck and sets it on the table, “It’s not an easy job, you’ll have to work together to make sure he doesn’t escape, or you’ll be chasing him across the galaxy. Bit of a slippery one, this one is.”
“We’ll take it.” You blurt out before you even discuss it with your newly established business partner. Sixty thousand credits is too good to pass up. You look up to gauge his reaction, but he's staring directly at you already. Shit, he’s going to decline it, you just know he is. You should have known, he probably hates being around you just as much as you hate being around him. You are each just a nuisance the other can’t quite seem to shake off. Much to your surprise however, he reaches out and grabs the puck off the table, pocketing it. A silent agreement. He accepted the job. Oh thank the maker.
“It’s settled then! I’m only giving you the one job for now, come back to me when you’ve completed it and I’ll give you new ones. This one might take you both awhile.” Karga smiles brightly at you both. “Regardless, I hope the both of you will stay in Nevarro a bit longer? I can provide lodging if it means Mando here will grace us with his company awhile.”
You go to respond, but ‘Mando’ himself interrupts before you even start, “We’ll only be staying long enough for a supply run. We’ll be gone by sundown. Could you have my ship fueled up before then?”
Karga frowns at that, “Honestly Mando, when is it anything other than business with you? But of course.” He turns his gaze to you, “Well it was a pleasure to meet you, I hope to see you back on Nevarro soon.” He gives you a hearty smile, and you give him  a nod in response.
“Likewise. Until next time.” You stand to leave with a wave to Karga and your new hunting partner follows out behind you.
“I’m surprised you seemed so excited to take the job.” He states amusement seeping into his tone.
“It’s like you said, Five thousand credits isn’t enough for a ship.” You shrug back at him. “Looks like we’re stuck together for a little while longer, shiny.” You continue to walk besides him passing through the main road of the city, scanning the shops for anything important. You stop at one shop in particular and start loading up on medical supplies, throwing them onto the counter. When the shopkeep tells you the price, you turn to look at your new business partner expectantly. “Well? You got paid out a lot more than I did.” You nod towards where he pocketed his credits earlier. “You turned in 4 pucks, I only had one.” You remind him. He grumbles something before throwing some credits over to the shop keep, and turning to leave before you can finish scooping up your goods. “You better be pitching in for fuel.” He grunts out as you catch up to him.
“For a trip you would have made regardless if I came along?” You scoff, “Absolutely not.” He just shakes his helmet lightly, clearly frustrated with you. You continue on your way picking up supplies for the trip, there's three of you on one ship now, so you wanted to make sure you were prepared for anything.
---------
“You know mando’a?” He asks suddenly while you're silently browsing a weapons stall, and it completely catches you off guard. You feel yourself tense up at the question, but you hope it's nothing obvious.
“Bits and pieces,” You reply cooly, “As most who know it do. It’s a dying language after all.” You shrug, never turning to look at him as you lean forward and continue to look through the various blades and blasters laid out in front of you. You hope that will be the end of it, but he keeps going.
“Your alias,” He starts, but pauses. You figure he's trying to find the right way to ask you about it, “Interesting choice.” Is what he settles on. You can’t help but let out an amused huff.
“I didn’t pick it,” you confess lightly, and you look ever so slightly over your shoulder to see he's staring right at you, waiting for you to continue. You stand up straight from where you were inspecting the weapons table, “It was given to me. A sort of…” you hum lightly to yourself trying to think of the words to describe it, “A sort of pet name I guess.” You smile underneath your helmet at the memory and turn to leave the weapons stall, deciding against getting anything.
“Pet name?” he questions, and the baby starts to fuss in the pouch on his hip. He pulls Grogu out of it, carrying him in his armored arm. The baby coos lightly as he blinks away the sleep in his eyes. You turn and tap the baby’s nose causing him to giggle, your new favorite habit you can never seem to resist.
“Mhmm,” you finally reply with a nod. “Ner kih laar sennar…” You speak out wistfully looking out at the ashy sky above you, “My little song bird...that's what he used to call me.” You scoff at how ridiculous it sounds out loud in basic, kicking a stray pebble beneath your boot in embarrassment, but the smile under your helmet never fading. You remember the first time he said it to you, how it took your breath away. It sounded so beautiful in his native language, you craved to hear him say it everyday. “When I enlisted as an official guild member it was the only thing I could think of.” You can't help but let out a laugh, you remember it clear as day. Your guild contact had asked what you wanted to be registered under, and in your panic you just--blurted it out. You’ll never forget the way he turned to you in shock, or how relentlessly he teased you about it afterwards. You’ll never forget his confession, when he had admitted how he loved the way mando’a sounded coming from your lips, and how happy he was that was the name you chose for yourself. The name he gave to you.
You’re broken out of your thoughts and back to the present when the baby starts fussing again, whining and reaching out towards something. You turn your gaze toward what he's looking at, and it’s a large, seemingly handymade, frog toy. You immediately rush over to the stall, it's full of trinkets and miscellaneous items, but there were also a lot of things for children. You pick up the stuffed frog and hold it out to the baby in the mandalorians arms. He excitedly babbles and reaches to take it from you.
“You like this one, little bug? You think shiny here should get it for you?” you bounce the toy frog up and down in your hands as if you’re speaking through it and Grogu nearly shrieks with happiness, “yeah? I agree!” You nod and turn your visor to meet the mandalorian’s and you can tell he's annoyed with you. “Well? You heard the baby!” You scold, “Better hand over those credits quickly!” you turn back to the merchant after handing the toy to Grogu and pick out some  other children's toys. A small bag of blocks, some wax coloring sticks, and a colorful rubber ball that fits perfectly in your palm. “These too please,” you show the items to the merchant, and start to put them in your bag before something else catches your eye, “ohh! And two of these!” You quickly grab a couple wrapped candy bars, one for you and one for the baby.
If you’re being honest with yourself you don’t really want one, but you know this is irritating him. The fact you are so willing to spend his credits for him without asking, you can feel him seething with anger behind you...and you live for it. You turn to face him, “oh! I’m so sorry…,” you tilt your helmet at him pretending to be sympathetic, sarcasm oozing from your modulated voice, “did you want one too?”
The beskar clad man says nothing, just threateningly towers over you while the baby happily coos in his arms. You can feel the absolute seething anger he’s exuding right now, and you're sure if you were anyone else, you would be terrified. Kriff, you probably should be terrified anyways, you’re about to be alone with this man on his ship for who knows how long, but he doesn't scare you. In fact, the threatening way his visor is burning a hole into yours just fuels you to keep going, “Make that three!” You nod to the merchant and grab another candy bar from the stall, before turning to leave and continue on your way. You can’t help but chuckle to yourself as you hear the shiny idiot curse under his breath before practically throwing the credits onto the merchants table and catching up to you.
“I’m not made of credits.” He hisses out at you.
“Oh, I know.” You nod in agreement. “But look how happy he is!” You motion to the baby who is absolutely thrilled playing with his brand new toy, a luxury he's been lacking for who knows how long now. “He’s worth every spare credit. Aren’t you, Bean?” You wiggle your pointer finger at him but he's too engrossed in his new plaything to notice.
Making it back to the ship, you take the baby from the mandalorian and make a head start to the cockpit while he hands over even more credits to the one who's just finished fueling up the ship. You can’t help but snicker to yourself at your own mischievous behavior as you settle into your seat with the baby in your lap. You really just did that. This man was still a complete stranger to you and yet you just practically spent all of his newfound credits for him. That’s definitely payback for the sudden babysitting job he threw at you on Corellia, you guess you can call it even for now. Besides, how can anyone deny this precious little guy anything? You grab the floppy arm of the frog toy and wave it at the excited baby in your arms.
The mandalorian eventually arrives back into the cockpit with the two of you, irritation still apparent by the way he not-so-subtly stomps his way to the pilots seat. He doesn’t say a word as he initiates takeoff, lifting the ship off the ground and making its way through the atmosphere.
“You’re paying the next time we fill up.” He grunts out as he warps the ship into hyperspace.
“Fair enough.” You nod, continuing to play with the baby in your lap, “I’ve had my fun.”
“Oh, that's what you consider fun?” He sounds far less than amused and you can’t help the chuckle that escapes your lips.
“After what you pulled on me landing in Corellia? Oh yeah.” you nod again for emphasis.
“Trying to humiliate me in front of my bounty wasn’t enough?” He turns his seat to face you.
“Try to? Oh no, I definitely humiliated you.” you correct him, and you’re almost disappointed you still have your helmet on because he can’t see the sly grin proudly spread across your face. He just sighs and turns back towards the front of the ship. “Don’t worry though, I think we can call it even now.”
“Thank the maker.” The utter sarcasm and annoyance he has for you weighs heavy on his words, and more than anything, it only satisfies you further.
“Oh cheer up tin can! Here--,” You rifle through your go bag on the floor next to your seat and pull out the candy bars from earlier. You hold one out to him, “Here's yours.”
“Keep it.” He doesn’t even look at it. Was he really that mad at you?
“Suit yourself.” You shrug and tug off your helmet, tucking it next to you opposite of the baby. You open one and break it in half, giving one half to the baby, and wrapping the remaining half back in its wrapper. The last thing you need is to give this kid a sugar rush while you're stuck in hyperspace. You tuck it back in your bag, along with the one meant for the bitter loser next to you. You unwrap yours and take a bite when you realize--you haven’t seen the mandalorian eat once since you’ve been together. In fact, you haven't seen him take off his helmet at all. “When’s the last time you ate?” You take another bite.
“Last night. While you were sleeping.” While you were sleeping? Kriff this guy is weird.
“What? You don’t trust me enough to take your helmet off around me? We’re business partners now. I’m not going to kill you...not that the helmet would prevent me from doing so anyways.”
“I don’t trust you,” You’re about to make a snide comment back in response as you take another bite of your candy bar, but he cuts you off, “But that's not why.” He never breaks his gaze from the cockpit window. Now you're confused, what the hell does that mean?
“What's the reason then?” You question.
“My creed.” How he manages to answer your questions without actually explaining anything never ceases to piss you off.
“Your creed?” you try to emphasize the confusion in your tone, hoping he will actually explain something to you, but he just nods in response. “What creed?” Maker, he is so absolutely frustrating. You put the rest of your candy bar away, no longer interested.
“The way of the Mandalore.” You’re hoping he will keep going, but you should have known better by this point. You truly have no kriffing idea what he's talking about.
“What? So you won’t take your helmet off in front of me because you’re a mandalorian? That doesn't make sense. I knew a mandalorian, quite well mind you, and I’ve never heard of that before. He took off his helmet all the time.” This is only getting more and more confusing and his short responses are only making things worse.
“This is The Way.” He nods to himself as if he's making perfect sense. Only, he's not making any sense at all.
“Is this...creed...the same reason your friends back on Nevarro don’t know your name?” He nods again. You just stare at him, confusion lined all over your face. This is nothing like any mandalorian you knew. Not that you knew many of them. You knew mandalorians were held by a creed, but you’ve never heard of it being that intense. “So okay…,” you look around the cockpit trying to think of a way to ask more, “I’m sorry, please explain this to me, I don’t want to be disrespectful.” For some reason, that statement is the one he decides is worth looking at you for.
“To call myself a mandalorian, to wear the beskar, I took the creed as a child. Gave up my name, vowed to never show my face to anyone. A creed I must follow if I’m to continue to wear this armor, continue to be a mandalorian. It’s the reason I have to return the child to his kind. This is what it means to be a mandalorian, this is The Way.” He says every word like his soul rests in each of them. This is the most this mysterious man has ever spoken to you, and it’s with such a passion, such conviction.
You’re almost afraid to ask anymore questions. As much as you don’t like this guy, you have a lot of respect for how important this clearly is to him. You know mandalorians are big on tradition, and they each had a pretty strict code of honor, the Resol'nare. To stop following that code, to stop being a mandalorian for whatever reason was to lose your soul, “dar’manda” it was called. But this? This was on a whole other level.
“So...do--do all mandalorians take this...creed?” You try to ask carefully, you don’t want to overstep any boundaries you might not be aware of. This creed he took, it was clearly about secrecy, you weren’t sure if even asking about it might be going too far.
“I thought so…,” He looks back out the window pausing and taking a breath before continuing, “But I recently learned that wasn’t the case.” You nod in understanding, taking your gaze off him and instead to the helmet resting under your arm.
“Thank you...uh for explaining…” You’re trying to sound genuine but you’re pretty sure it just comes off awkward. He doesn’t say anything and you feel like the silence between the two of you is suffocating. You’re used to quiet, it doesn’t bother you usually, but this? This kind of quiet was different and you hated it. Not even the baby was making noise, He was slowly drifting off in your arms, and you’re almost tempted to rile him up again even if it's only to save you from the stifling silence. Almost.
“Your hunting partner,” His low modulated voice suddenly breaks the silence, and you would be thankful if it weren’t for the subject matter, “They’re the one that gave you your alias?”
You nod slowly, still peering at the helmet under your arm. “That who you got the armor from?”
“Yeah.” You nod again and you force a sad smile more at the helmet than the man speaking to you. Hunting partner...you could almost laugh. If only that's all he was to you, maybe it would hurt a whole lot less that he was gone.
The mandalorian finally looks at you again, “Were you...an item?” It’s his turn to struggle in the same way you did, trying to ask his questions without being disrespectful. This time you actually laugh, it barely comes out, but it's there.
“He was my husband.” You finally admit it to him, you aren’t sure why you’re finally comfortable enough to tell him. Maybe it's because of how vulnerable he was about his creed.
“Your husband was a mandalorian?” What a stupid question
“Yes, yes he was.” You gaze out the cockpit window at the smear of stars flying past you in hyperspace.
“That's why you keep the armor?” More stupid questions. Marker, this guy really was a dumbass. You left out a sad sigh.
“His armor is all I have left of him. I wear it to remember him, to honor him.” Your gaze meets the visor already staring at you. The stars reflecting strongly off the top of his helmet. “I will die before I let anyone take it from me. I’ll take this beskar to my grave...a creed of my own I guess.” You shift your gaze to the now sleeping baby in your arms and slowly, gently, stroke the top of his fuzzy head. You haven’t spoken about your late husband out loud in--maker, you don’t even know how long. It hurts. Your chest is aching, still just as painful as the day he left you. “He died a warrior's death. Just what every mandalorian hopes for I guess…” You can’t help but sound bitter. You sigh, “I was supposed to die with him,” You admit. You aren’t sure why you're still talking, it’s not like he asked you. Maybe it's been too long since you’ve spoken about him, you just can’t help yourself, “But he saved me.” You shake your head, and take a deep breath. “I don’t know why he did, I never got to ask, I never got the chance to even argue,” You scoff, “I wanted to die with him...but he saved me.”
The mandalorian next to you just continues to watch you as you pour your heart out. You wonder if he can tell how much it still hurts. How hard it is for you to talk about it, even after all this time. He doesn’t seem irritated, or bored, you can’t tell what he's thinking, but he's not stopping you, so you keep going.
“He was my whole life, my oathsworn, my riduur....” The mando’a doesn’t roll off your tongue in the same way it would when he said it, and maker, you wish more than anything you could hear him say it one more time. Hear him call you his Sen’ika, his cyare, mesh’la, anything. What you would give to hear him speak those sweet words to you again. “I was to stay by his side no matter where he went--and to me that meant even in death. I was prepared to follow him in death...but he took that from me, and next thing I knew I had to find a new life. I had nothing left…”
You look back up to the man sitting next to you, and you suddenly feel sick. You can’t believe you just unloaded all of that onto him. You don’t know this man, you barely met him, you don't even like him, in fact you very much dislike him. Yet here you were, pouring your heart out to him about your dead husband. You feel like there's a blade in your gut, slowly turning as it gets pushed farther in. You’re utterly embarrassed. “Sorry…” You mutter out, shifting your gaze to the cockpit floor. You can’t bear to look at him.
The mandalorian next to you doesn’t break his gaze from you. He must think you’re a fool, an utter fool, spilling your emotions onto the floor of his ship. Weak for letting your sadness sweep over you so easily. You figure he’ll never take you seriously now, throw it back in your face if you make a mistake.
“Thank you.” He nods his visor slowly once, “for explaining.” you never expected to hear your awkward words said back to you, but as awkward as they sounded coming from you, they sound so genuine coming from him. A man who barely speaks. You meet the gaze of his visor once again, before you try to play it cool, feeling way too vulnerable.
“Don’t get used to it.” You let a small smile creep over your face. Maybe this shiny beskar clad man wasn’t so bad afterall. He doesn’t say anything, and silence fills the cockpit once again, but this time it’s not unpleasant. No longer sifling, but comfortable instead.
“She by the way,” you break it, and you look to each other once again, “I’m a she.” You smile at him, “I know my helmet says otherwise, but I’m a she.” He stares at you way too long without saying anything. It starts getting awkward real fast, until he gives you a slight nod and returns his gaze to the cockpit window. What a strange guy. You lean back and get comfortable in your seat, gently stroking Grogu’s cheek while he sleeps in your arms as the three of you warp through hyperspace. ***
All Might will most likely have to wear some sort of disguise, but it will probably just be some sunglasses and a hat.
He’s determined to take you on this date after you mentioned how you’d never been to an amusement park before.
“You’ve never been on a rollercoaster or-”
“Nope.” You laugh, cuddling up to Yagi on the couch while the two of you watched a movie.
The next day he woke you up early and was dressed in something light and casual.
“What time is it?” You mumbled as you rolled out bed after being told to hurry up and get dressed.
“Just about seven am.”
It takes two hours to get to where you’re going, meanwhile you’re under the impression it’s some hero thing, but when you begin to see the large rollercoasters peeking over the treetops everything comes flooding back to you, and there’s this excitement that begins to bubble inside.
All Might enjoys seeing you happy, and he’s super sweet too. He buys your ticket and the two of you sprint off into the park like children.
Your first rollercoaster, was a rollercoaster. You were tied between screaming in terror and laughing from joy. It was crazy, but you wanted to do it again.
“That was awesome!” You cheer as you exit the rollercoaster’s entry building.
“You looked mortified the entire time.” Yagi’s hand was holding your as you walked through the park, searching to find new things to do.
There was bumper cars, which was pretty fun, you managed to bump Yagi around a few good times.
Then there was the ferris wheel, which was even better. It felt cliché to sit in it and kiss when it got to the top, but, sitting in Yagi’s arms while he held you and kissed you gently was something you never wanted to end.
Until the cart reached the ground again and you had to get out.
The date continued when he brought you to the stands where you could win prizes.
Determined to win him something, you aimed high and fought strong. In the end, you’d both won gigantic teddy bears for each other, laughing about how they were going to barely fit in the car after.
When the park was finally closing, you left with some dessert food, but happy and thrilled with your first time at an amusement park.
Strapping the oversized stuffed bears into the backseats of the car was about as much fun as the park itself, joking to Yagi about them being your stuffed children and how they have to obey road laws.
When you arrived back home, you crash. Yagi and you both seem to change, though you don’t remember, and pass out lazily in the bed together, cuddled next to each other.
Overall, it was a great experience.
Bakugou’s excited. He loves competition, so taking you to an amusement park seems right up his alley.
All the games he could play, and win, just to get you prizes. He’s sold the second you mention it.
When you arrive, everything seems to happen so fast.
You’re screaming and holding onto Bakugou as you ride some rollercoasters, it’s fun but equally terrifying.
There’s the one rollercoaster where you took your picture kissing, which Bakugou bought and intended to frame and keep forever.
Then there’s the carousel, which doesn’t seem super fun to Bakugou, but you’re dragging him onto the two person horse, setting him in the first seat while you climb on behind him.
“This is-”
Bakugou freezes when you wrap your arms around his waist and lay your head on the back of his shoulder. It’s endearing and so nice. Bakugou’s cheeks turn a bit pink from the turnout, but begins to try and out-rock the other kids and nearly knocks you off of the horse in the process.
After the carousel, Bakugou heads straight to the prize games, and the high striker catches his eye.
“Test your strength young boy!” The man calls as Bakugou walks over.
“Put it on the strongest setting.” Bakugou’s confident.
A little too confident.
“As you wish!” The man laughs. You stand back and watch and Bakugou picks up the large gavel-like hammer and swings it, striking the plate. The puck began to rise, but quickly fell. It moved up to the fourth tick before falling.
Bakugou stared at it in horror and whipped his head back and fourth in confusion.
“Can I try?” You ask, stepping out form the crowd. Bakugou hands you the mallet with a huff and stands back.
“Don’t change it.” You smile to the man running the game and step back, gripping the mallet.
You bring the mallet down quick with force you’d worked hard to have. Putting everything into one strike, you focused hard.
When it hit the lever, the puck rose and slammed into the bell with such speed, the operator thought it was going to fly off the track.
Bakugou’s mouth gaped as you left with a giant stuffed All-Might.
When the park closed you both left happy, even though Bakugou was still butt-hurt over the high striker game.
You fell asleep on the train ride back to U.A. dozing off on Bakugou’s shoulder.
You gave Bakugou the stuffed All-Might plushie and he was grateful. He  had wanted to win it for you.
It was a great experience, and Bakugou would love to do it again.
fumikage tokoyami
Tokoyami brings you to an indoor waterpark, and it’s a very interesting place for a date.
Walking around, hand-in-hand, you point out a few slides that look like fun.
“Let’s do this one!” It’s probably the biggest one there, but Tokoyami nods in approval as you begin to ascend the stairs.
“Dark Shadow seems to be excited.” You giggle as Tokoyami and Dark Shadow stand in line beside you, Dark Shadow jumping around eagerly.
“He seems to have a mind of his own. I’m afraid he won’t be able to go down the slide, but he can live vicariously through me.” Tokoyami smiles, a rare sight, but a beautiful one nonetheless.
The first slide is fir for up to four people, but because it’s just you and Tokoyami, you’re seated across from one another on the raft.
It’s fun and exciting when you enter the slide, it’s dark and you can’t see anything, but as light begins to come into view, you feel yourself drop.
A shrill of joy rips through you as you come sliding down, water splashing all over.
Tokoyami seems to be fine, a few laughs come from him as he watches you try to stay in the raft, holding on for dear life.
After you slide out into the exit pool, Tokoyami sees something catch his eye.
“Come on, let’s go here love.” Tokoyami’s hand wraps around yours, pulling you along.
When you reach the spot, there’s not much there. A few other people are waiting around, but there’s no rides, no nothing.
“Did you want to get ready to leave or-”
A loud chiming interrupts you, and you start to look around frantically. As you look up, you can see a large bucket tip over, sending a large wave of water crashing down over you. You manage to give Tokoyami one last look before your drenched completely.
After, Tokoyami can’t help but laugh. He’s smiling and blushing as he looks at you, completely overcome with joy.
“That was, surprisingly really fun.” You laughed, giving him a wet hug. As water dripped off both of you, you decide it’s best to get some lunch.
You return to the park after letting your food digest and do a few more rides and activities before leaving when the park closes.
When you arrive back at the dorms, you rush to get into warm clothes and meet back up with Tokoyami at his dorm to look over the photo’s you’d taken together and even one you had done professionally at the park.
Falling asleep in each other’s arms wasn’t meant to happen, but the both of you were exhausted and it just happened. Dark Shadow eventually came out and made sure to cover the both of you up and cuddle up next to you.
Don’t F*** with Rachel Berry’s Girlfriend
Tumblr media
Rachel Berry loved many things. She loved Broadway, Barbra, Glee club. The one thing she loved the most though had to be her girlfriend, Y/N Y/L/N. Y/N treated her like a queen. Better than Finn ever did. She loved Y/N with all of her heart. Finn, for some reason, couldn't understand that Rachel was done with him. He always tried to win Rachel back by trying to paint Y/N in a bad light. Rachel always saw through his lies and always declined his advances. Rachel was done with him and if he couldn't see that, too bad.
Y/N was walking to the choir room for Glee practice when she was cornered by half the football team, led by Finn, armed with slushies. "Uhhh, hi guys?" Finn smirked. "So, I'm sick and tired of you taking everything from me lately. My girl, my solos. So I decided to take something from you. Your dignity." Y/N went to say something when a rush of freezing cold whipped across her face. She wiped the stickiness from her face and saw Finn standing there smirking. "See ya in Glee."
Y/N stood frozen before finally walking to the choir room, stickiness and all. As she walked in the room, all eyes fell on her. Finn sat smirking as Rachel rushed to her girlfriend. "Oh my god! What happened?" Y/N looked over to Finn who still had that stupid smirk on his face. Rachel followed her line of vision and saw red. "What the actual FUCK is wrong with you Finn?" Finn's smirk dropped. "S-she has everything! You, good grades, she's good at sports and singing. I knocked her down a few pegs. She asked for it though!"
"No she didn't." A voice from behind them said
They all turned to see Josh, the guy who offered to "straighten" Santana out. "I saw it Hudson, you and your football idiots cornered her, you said some mean stuff to her and you all slushied her. I happened to be on my way here to apologize to Santana for what I said and saw you attack her." Rachel turned back to Finn.
"Finn Hudson, if you EVER mess with my girlfriend again, and I mean EVER, I will cut your dick off and chop it into tiny pieces and feed it to you."
Everyone stood shocked at Rachel's outburst. The color drained from Finn's face. Rachel guided Y/N to sit next to her. Puck spoke up. "Y/N, here, wear my letterman. You look cold." Y/N smiled gratefully at the boy and put his jacket on. Rachel wrapped her arm around Y/N's shoulder. "Come here, I'll keep you warm babe." Mr. Schue walked in and began the lesson as the tension in the room somewhat dissipated.
The Quaterback & The Back Up Plan.
The Quarterback -
My favorite song: Seasons Of Love
My favorite quote: "But you do wake up, and just for a second, you forget. And then, oh, you remember. And it's like getting that call again and again, every time. You don't get to stop waking up. You have to keep on being a parent even though you don't get to have a child anymore"
My favorite moment: Santana's breakdown, and her telling Sue off. Kurt's scene with Puck at the dumpster. Kurt's scene with Santana in the auditorium. Burt, Carole, and Kurt in Finn's room
My least favorite moment: ⚠️ Don't read if you don't want to see me shitting on a dead character ⚠️ Yes, this was for Cory first and foremost. No, you don't usually bring up bad things about someone who's just died. But oh my god Finn is so shitty that they either had to rewrite history or add in stories of stuff we never saw to make him sound good. Saying he didn't have a prejudiced bone in his body when he used slurs on multiple occasions and outed someone. Excusing the whole f**** incident. Puck saying Finn kept him in line when it was ALWAYS the other way around. And Rachel saying how she was always talking and Finn was never listening and it's supposed to be cute. Idk. It's sad what happened but I'm sorry Cory didn't have a better character to play
My favorite character: Santana. I know it wasn't all acting but Naya's performance carried the episode
The Back Up Plan -
My favorite song: uhhh i guess Story Of My Life bc Klaine duet. and the sancedes number is good but it's my least fave sancedes number
My favorite quote: "I realized that the world is even colder than I am. You know, and the only thing that you can do to keep from freezing to death is have good friends around you to keep you warm. So, I decided that I want to use my bitch powers to protect the people that I care about. And I guess that means I care about you"
My favorite moment: Santana and Rachel's talk in the loft. Mercedes sticking her neck out for Santana to get her featured on her album. Blaine getting showered with love. Kurt helping him get ready for his event. Blaine trying to get Kurt included in his musical ventures
My least favorite moment: rachel wanting to quit the show after one episode blah blah blah we all know. also that we didnt get to see santana being awesome as fanny bryce on stage >:(
My favorite character: Santana! for being able to do it all, and being an amazing friend in the process
First time read through light novel vol. 4. Random thoughts.
Tumblr media
So this is where mayonnaise came into the story. I still remember my sheer utter confusion over the mayo bath in the Memory Snow OVA, having no memory of the anime ever bringing up any of Subaru's love for the condiment. As a positive for him at least, it's cool that Emilia apparently really likes it too and that he's the one who figured out how to makes the stuff in this new world.
“The lad’s eyes interested me ever so slightly. They said he has crossed the boundary of death. Many come close to the line, stop, and draw back, but...” Wilhelm lowered his lids in thought as his words trailed off. “Those are the eyes of one who has crossed once, no...several times, and returned. I know of no such being. You might say I was compelled by curiosity.”
How would he know what the eyes of someone like that look like if he's never met anyone like that before Subaru?
“Listen and be amazed, look and be astounded! Behold, the ultimate combat technique—RoSciPer!!”
“What is that...thing?! You did not inform me such a hand was possible!”
“Shut up! I didn’t mention it, but it’s your fault you didn’t ask! That part is rock, this here’s scissors, and over there is paper! In other words, my hand’s beaten your rock!”
That is so freaking petty. But on the other hand, maybe Priscilla would respect him for it anyway? I could see her having no problem with winning however you can, even if it's by being unfair and tricking your opponent, as long as you keep your own pride.
“—But I wonder what Master Roswaal is thinking?”
She inclined her head slightly as she voiced her doubts about the instructions her master had left that morning.
“He said, ‘Do not stand in Subaru’s way no matter what Lady Emilia may say to you.’”
It was as if he’d anticipated Subaru’s actions and had instructed her accordingly. She also wondered why he was valuing Subaru’s opinion above Emilia’s.
Hmm...now that's curious.
“That’s right, bro. It’s been eighteen years since I got summoned here. I lost my arm around the same time... Right around the age you are right now.”
Just like that, Al confessed to Subaru that he’d experienced the same situation.
...Wait...WHAT?! If this was in the anime then I completely forgot about it because holy sh*t, Al is from another world too?! And according to him he arrived 18 years ago and was about the same age as Subaru is (and Subaru is roughly 17, isn't he?). No idea if he can Return By Death and if he can he might have the same penalty for trying to talk about it as Subaru does, so he obviously couldn't talk about it, but this is a huge deal. It's a great bit to add to Subaru's story, showing off what could have happened to him and what he could still eventually become. It probably deepened his obsession with Emilia a little bit too, since she's the main difference between him and Al.
“Unfortunately, Lady Emilia, this is not the time or place for you to argue. If all the facts become clear, Subaru will be staying here...for a very, veeery long time.”
Okay, Roswaal f**king knows and is planning something.
They talk about a Dragon Tablet handed down by Holy Dragon Volcanica, which has given predictions and warnings about great disasters that did actually occur. Naturally, my first thoughts are that this Holy Dragon (or whoever wrote the tablet) might have had abilities like Subaru's RBD and that he'll have his own role to play.
Felt might be a long lost princess of the royal family that was wiped out in a strangely specific plague and Subaru met both her and Emilia first in this world because she stole for her the thing that proved she was a worthy candidate for being a Dragon Maiden. It kind of feels like the Witch of Envy is like the Force from Star Wars with how well she made the destinies and chance encounters line up.
I never really liked Ferris that much, and not because he's a cat-boy trap. It's more the way he talks. I like things that are cute but I can't stand things that are cutesy.
While Crusch's idea for the future of the kingdom is nothing that should be rushed, and most certainly should be done with care as not to piss off the dragon, I get where she's coming from, that they are too reliant on the dragon's blessings and not doing enough for themselves. It's a classic argument I've seen plenty in superhero stories. There's no denying the heroes have done a lot of good but when the people become too dependent on them and if/when the heroes can't help anymore, what's going to happen then? It's one of my favorite plot points in My Hero Academia, where common citizens thinking "It's fine, a hero will show up and take care of it." and not helping where they should have eventually gave rise to one of their world's most dangerous and infamous supervillains.
“A-and now you make threats. These words and this show of force convey, ‘Do as I say or you shall be an icicle.’ If this is not blackmail, what is...?!”
Then, Emilia wholeheartedly affirmed his suspicions.
“—Yes, I am threatening you.” She continued, “I shall make my case to the esteemed members of the Council of Elders once more. My name is Emilia. I spent a long time in the Great Forest of Elioor, the World of Eternal Frost, and am served by Puck, the Great Spirit that governs fire mana. I am a silver-haired half-elf. The people of the nearby villages called me...”
Emilia paused, surveying the faces of the Council of Elders on the dais.
“...the Freezing Witch, born in the Frozen Forest.”
Holy sh*t, I am way more into Emilia's character here than I was in the anime! That was awesome! Her whole speech after too and her finally being given some respect. It's not like she didn't have any personality or agency in the anime. It's not like she could have just been replaced by a sexy lamp and nothing would be different like you could with the heroines of other series. But she definitely feels like she has more here, like there's more fire to her. Like hot damn, even I want to see her become queen now!
...And then Subaru opens his mouth again...and promptly inserts his foot.
Yeah, I suppose Subaru white knighting for Emilia in front of all the actual white knights is probably one of the more infamous scenes of the series, huh? It's one of those weird things where you feel you know what Subaru should have done but at the same time, if he hadn't snuck into the castle, we wouldn't have gained his relationships with Priscilla and Al or have seen as much of the meeting as we did. It's good for the story and eventually it's good for character development but it's hard not to wince a little at everything Subaru does in this part, especially because he himself reflects and feels guilty at a few points about how badly he could have messed everything up for Emilia and Roswaal.
I've thought a lot more about Subaru's white knighting ever since I watched the anime, mostly because of characters like Motoyasu from Rising of the Shield Hero and Mitsurugi from Konosuba; two LN series I read before this one. Chivalry isn't a bad thing. Trying to stand up and fight for someone you care about isn't a bad thing. But like Emilia points out, she never asked Subaru to do any of that for her. She didn't want him to do any of that for her. In fact, he deliberately went against what she did ask of him to go and do all of that. With these three characters, the problem with their white knighting is that they're doing it with no regard to what the person they're white knighting for actually wants. In many cases, like Emilia also points out, Subaru wasn't really doing it for her. He was doing it for himself. To make himself feel better. To place himself closer to her. And she's not exactly wrong that their relationship seems to be entirely just two people repaying their debts to each other, even though she has no idea what debt Subaru feels he owes her.
The ironic thing is, if Subaru wanted to get closer to Emilia and have value to her, he already found a way to do that in one of his previous lives. On his second or third loop in the mansion arc, Puck told him that Emilia doesn't have a lot of experience with friends and really wants some. During that loop, Subaru and Emilia are just hanging out, enjoying each other's company, laughing. It's made clear she does genuinely like having him around. Just being her friend was enough for her and there's still plenty of ways her friend could have helped her through such a trying time, without embarrassing her in front of everyone in the castle or making her think it's her fault he keeps getting hurt.
I think Subaru's big problem, and what he needs to grow out of, isn't that he's an idiot (though he can certainly do dumb things) but rather that he's immature. Not immature like he's a child (though sometimes...) but immature in that he hasn't developed enough to properly react to certain situations. He was a shut-in who constantly skipped school. He doesn't have a lot of experience with other real people and doesn't know how to properly interact with them, defaulting too often to what he's seen in fantasy stories. I think that's a problem both he and Rem share to an extent. They don't know what it means to be in love. That's not to say that Subaru's love for Emilia isn't real or that Rem's love for Subaru isn't real. Rather that they don't know what to do with it. They don't know how they should act towards the person they're in love with or how to show their love, so too often they default to either obsession or devotion or both. And so if they want to have a healthy, happy relationship with the person they love, they have to acknowledge and address their own immaturity and basically grow up a bit.
Nice little detail that Julius beat on Subaru to keep any other knights from going after and possibly killing him...and because he was at least a little annoyed by Subaru's words. He's a good guy...but still human.
And again with Roswaal working things behind the scenes. He gave orders for Subaru (or at least a servant bearing his family crest like Subaru would be) to be allowed to pass into the castle. I imagine he did have a back-up plan for if Subaru never showed up but the man definitely knows or suspects something about Subaru and/or what's going on with him. I mean, benefit of the doubt, if he doesn't know about RBD, from the outside it does look like Subaru has some kind of prophetic abilities, as twice now he's known about future events that would have destroyed everything Roswaal's been working towards and used that knowledge to prevent them. Making things easier for Subaru to act just in case he had another "vision" would have been in Roswaal's best interest. He might be thinking Subaru is like the Holy Dragon, thus Roswaal has his own personal Dragon Tablet. But I can't help but feel things go deeper than that. At the very least I'm glad Subaru's outburst and Roswaal trying to smite him with fire was apparently part of the plan. 1, Roswaal is just a really fun character and I don't want to lose that, but 2, he definitely seems like a guy you don't want to have against you.
A high school confession
AN: This is an experiment might make a bigger thing bout of this also its time for some fluff
“Try not to embarrass yourself.” Stated Mab as I left the Castle.
Same old bs, never a ‘good luck’, or, ‘do your best.’ Always about the kingdom and my eventual inheritance, I will rule the Ice court, I will make descions that will affect millions of people. Knights will depend on me, servants will want guidance. Other courts will want to challenge me. Seems…. A lot for someone like me. A teenage fairy, but it is the life I have to lead once i graduate. But thats not till a long time down the road at least a year.
I got on the carriage and we went to the human world, to the high school I attend.
 The carriage pulled up to Fallbrook high school, not too bad of a school. I mean we have our bully issues and teachers don’t really care but we don’t have to worry about Gangs. The leaders of the nevenever make sure of that. It's a red brick building with a flagpole in the middle.When I got out of the carriage, I was greeted by a red haired boy. A summer fairy but a treasured one.
“Hey ice boy. Have you seen the princess?”
My nerves were instantly shot, “Do you not know where she is?”
“I… I saw her at breakfast but then i heard a welp and she vanished.”
Son of a bitch!!
I bolted straight into the building, people moving out of my way as I bulldoze into hall, Puck going after me.
“Ice boy! Slow down! You don’t know if shes in trouble!”
But I did, i knew exactly what happened. I knew that she was hurting her. I swer this time I’ll kill that freak!
My heart was beating faster then I thought it ever could, why am I reacting this way? Its not like this is the first time its happened. But I could barely keep track of her glamour, It was getting weaker and weaker. Gods no, please if there is any beings of higher power out there protect her. Please protect her…
Sure enough As i turned to the gym, a Black teeanger had blonde teenager in a choke hold. The blonde teeanger had tears forming in her eyes, my rage erupting like a volcano. My ice glamour exploded freezing everything around The black teeanger, she stepped on ice and fell on her butt letting the blonde go.
“Meghan!” I shouted and rushed towards her.
Meghan fell to the ground and I caught her, i scooped up her fragile body in my arms.
“Meghan! Talk to me!”
I heard a growl from behind me and Puck sheriked as I felt a fist lunge at me.
I tanked the blow,  everyone told me stories bout Tyras monster strength. Gangers won’t mess with her cause of how scary she is. But she didn’t impress me, her punch hurt but it was nothing I haven’t handled before. I shot an ice spike to get her to jump in the air. Tyra landed gracecfully on the ground.
“I’ve had enough of you getting in my way of beating retard!” Tyra snarled.
I told Puck to come over he did, I handed him Meghan and told the two to get out of here. They left. But by this point a crowd had gathered.
“Tyras gonna fight the ice prince!” Said a student.
“No, Tyras gona destory the ice prince. No one can handle Tyra.” Said a teacher.
Tyra cracked her knuckles grinning, “I’ve been looking forward to this, youre hot but youre too nice. Im going to fix that.”
“Is that right?” I smirked.
I slowly walked around, in a slow mocking matter. Bending my knee, her brown eyes glaring at me. People asked what I was doing, I walked around her slowly. Finally she shouted and lunged
I blocked her punch and pushed her off me, I did not strike her. She got ready for another punch, and she went through with her attack, this time she missed. I leaned out of the way, Tyra tried to bear hug me but I slide under her.
“FIGHT ME!!” Tyra roared.
Suddenly an ice blast froze Tyra solid, I looked around and there was the principle. He glared at me.
“Mr. Johnson?” I asked surprised.
“What happened young man!” Mr. Johnson snapped.
“Tyra attacked Meghan Chase sir,”I replied, “I was defending my friend.”
Mr Johnson was trained by my mom to use Ice glamour, he takes no crap from any of the students and hes very strict. He puffed and singled for a cop.
“Take Miss Tyra away she will be expelled if Ash is…”
Suddenly Mr. Johnson’s phone rang, it was the nurse.
“What is it miss bells?”
“What? Miss Chase is unconscious?”
Everyone gulped.
“Everyone get to class! NOW!”
We all scattered.
I went straight to home room, I was sure I was going to get jumped Tyra was very popular. I know people were going to be pissed. In fact I got sneers and glares as I walked through the halls. I expected someone to try and deck me.
But I was greeted by Puck, who looked sad.
“Hey, how is she?”
“She won’t wake up ice boy. They called in an ambulance.”
Darn it!
I patted Pucks shoulder, “She’s been through hell before, she’ll get out again.”
Puck touched my hand and smiled at me, “Youre right.”
We both sat down, and class started. It seemed like nothing changed, Meghan was gone but no one seemed to care. Meghan was a huge part of all of our classes too. The teacher didn’t seem to notice that no one was answering questions besides me. Its normally me and Meghan.
“The left index.” I answered.
“Very good Ash.” The teacher replied.
A student laughed, “Man, I can’t believe that rere was holding Ash back.”
Bile rose in my throat, Meghan has had mental illnesses for as long as I remember. Its been the number one reason for her being bullied.
“Meghan wasn’t holding back anything I-”
“Rere!” The student snapped, “Gods how long have you been here? Learn the terminology fairy!”
“Meghan is not a ‘rere’ or whatever you call her. She's just as important to this class as I am.”
“Ugh, what is she? your girlfriend or something??” The student yelled
Everyone gasped like he just dropped an F bomb.
The teacher jumped in, “Anthony leave Ash alone. Theres no way he would date Miss chase. Now lets get back to the lesson.”
The class went on without a hitch though that accusation never left my mind.
What is she? Your girlfriend or something?
Did I see Meghan like that? She's been my friend for as long as I remember. She's my best friend. I feel content when shes around, when we’re cuddling and I can feel her heartbeat. When we’re watching a movie, when I’m fighting off bullies for her. I even defied my mom to be her friend, it was the one argument I ever won against my mom. Even as a king I will never abandon Meghan, I’ll run away from the throne if I have to I-
Oh. I am in love with her.
The class ended and I was called to the nurse’s office. I power walked there, my heart racing as I opened the door…
“You’re late.” Greeted Meghan.
The smile ran across my face before I realized it, “It took forever to get out of class.”
She opened her arms and I took her in mine.
“When Tyra grabbed me that time….I thought it was over.” She sobbed.
“I took care of it. Shes expelled.”
“Isn’t that only going to make things worse?” Meghan asked.
“Nope.” The nurse shook her head, “The students have gotten a clear warning. Anything happens to you over her jail will be next. Now, I have lunch to grab, you two stay here.”
The nurse left and it was just me and Meghan, my heart going into over drive. I wanted to tell Meghan how I felt. That I’m in love with her, I sat down next to her.
“Did you sleep well last night?” Meghan asked.
I nodded.
“Are you okay?”
“I… I need to tell you something.”
Now or Never.
“What is it?”
I took a deep breathe gathering my thoughts, It was time to face this.
“I love you.”
The words didn’t register right away, she just said, “huh?”
“I really love you.” I repeated.
Meghan gasped, her eyes smacked with shock. Did I make a mistake?
She looked down, my heart was bout to fall into the depths of hell when she said, “Um…. Can you give me some time to think Ash? After school, meet me at the front gate. I’ll see you then.”
Meghan then ran away and I just went to class.
“Man youre lame.” Puck stated.
“Shut up Summer shit.” I snarled.
“Seriously that was the best you could come up with? Although I’m honestly shocked this didn’t happen sooner.”
“Whats that suppose to mean?” I asked.
“Ive known you both for bout 5 years and from the moment I met you… Ive had to deal with the soft stares and cuddling and couple fights. I remember when Tyra first started bullying her, and she cried that no one was going to care if she died. And You got really mad at her and you both started yelling until you screamed ‘if you died I’d rip out her heart myself’ and you both stared at each other mouths agape till I had to bring up the newest book coming out.”
Puck was right, although it was embarrassing to hear him bring up the past.
“So, were you joking?”
I swatted at him, “Of course I wasn’t!”
Puck Patted my head, “Good luck lover boy!”
He ran away before I could kill him.
I went to the front gate and Meghan was waiting for me.
“Hello Ash.” Meghan Greeted.
“Hey, Um, can I have your answer?”
My whole life hangs on this.
Meghan smiled softly, “I… was so happy when you told me. Thank you. But here is the thing…. I can’t believe you actually said it. and...I’m wondering if you made a bet with Michael. To see if it would be funny…. So i have to ask… were you joking?”
Tears were forming in her eyes when she asked if I was joking, what exactly do people take me for.
“No i meant it.”
“You… do know im not normal right??” Meghan asked shocked, “I’m not pretty like the other girls. I like dumb things and I can barely do anything right. And then there is the fact I'm on adhd medication. People will always judge me for that, I just doze off and I get mad quite easily; I annoy people very easily…. One of my favorite thing bout you is how patient you are with me. If…. we start dating that patience will be tested to its limit. You’ll have to deal with that stuff all the time. I… don’t want to be a pest to you.”
This foolish…
“You aren’t a pest Meghan!”
Meghan gasped and i kept going.
“Hell I love you doing those things, do them all the time. I don’t get those anime cartoons you watch nor do I understand shipping and all of that but I want to be with you every step of the way. As for your mental illness I love you, all of you, especially those parts. There's nothing you could do to make me lose my patience in you. Hell, I don't even consider it a test of patience. Being with you is a choice I make. I make it every day, and I’ll keep making it till the end of time.”
“Ash….” Meghan gasped, “Has anyone ever told you… that you're dangerous to a woman's heart.” her face was flushed.
“Do love me Meghan? Cause I can’t stand the thought of not being with you. I can do anything but losing you would destroy me.”
“Yes. I love you, Ash Please be my boyfriend.”
I walked towards her, took her face in my hands and kissed her. She coiled her arms around me and I crushed her to me. She was mine, Nothing will ever change that.
13 Days With Seventeen Masterlist
Day Six: Wonwoo - Ice Skating
Tumblr media
“Alright, ladies! Round up!” The call of the coach bounced from wall to wall of the ice rink, you turned from the side of the rink to glide towards the coach, the other five girls all seemed to all fall in line in front of her as you came to a stop between Solar and Wheein, “Since winter break is approaching, we will be taking a break for the holidays, but that doesn’t mean that you get to slack off on practicing. We have one more practice the Monday before Christmas, make sure you come prepared to work.”
“Yes, Mrs. Yama!” You all replied in unison before bowing. Once she had left the ice, a sigh left Solar.
“She really wants us here the day before Christmas Eve?” She huffed pushing off the ice to glide to the exit with Wheein following behind her.
“I know, right? I’m supposed to be packing to head home.”
“At least you guys get to go home, I’m here for hockey practice the rest of the week…” You mumbled stepping off into the padded floor to hear laughter and yells of the men’s hockey team making their entrance into the rink.
“Well, well, well, if it isn’t the ice fairies of the school.” Woozi scoffed as some of the girls walked past them, their eyes only glued to the fluttering plain skirts that clung to their tights.
“Who do they think they are talking about us like that?” Solar asked, crossing her arms in addition to the pout that was coming to her lips.
“Just ignore them.” You breathed catching the sight of Wonwoo coming in with Jeonghan
“Think the only reason they’re skating is to show off their figure?” Jeonghan teased nudging Wonwoo towards the entrance to the ice.
“To think that they actually qualify figure skating as a sport is ridiculous.” He hissed, connecting his glare with yours. Before you could even react, your body grabbed Wonwoo’s wrist, forcefully yanking him to you.
“Take that back.” You growled and Wonwoo smirked, shaking your grip from him.
“What? Did I hit a nerve? We all know that hockey is the superior sport when it comes to being on the ice. While you girls dance around in your glittery outfits, we’re actually putting in hard work—not just anyone can play hockey.” He spoke matter of factly which only pissed you off more than you already were so, you did the unexpected.
“You really think that? Let’s make a bet on that.”
“Y/N—”
“A bet you say?” Wonwoo cut Solar off with a raise of his hand, “What’re you betting?”
“If I can score one on you, then you stop talking down to us, period. If you win, I’ll do whatever you want.”
“Whatever I want?” He glanced towards the guys who stood corralled around the entrance to the rink, their eyes wide, “How about if I win, you go on a date with me?”
“A date? With you?” You snorted in reply while placing your hands on your hips, “You can’t be serious.”
“Oh, I’m very serious because I don’t think that you can get a shot on me and a date with you is all I would ask for from someone as pretty as you.” Quiet chuckles spilled from the guys around you, but Solar and Wheein knew something that they didn’t.
“Fine, you have a deal. Let me just find some hockey skates and I’ll be out on the ice.” You smiled, turning on your heels when Wonwoo added something else.
“Be sure to come out in the pretty skirt, I would love to watch you move around in it.” An eruption of laughter came from behind you as you walked towards the locker room with Wheein and Solar following behind you.
“You’re not going to tell him?” Solar questioned, trying to keep up with you.
“What’s the fun in letting him know that I’m gonna wipe the ice with him?” You shrugged walking into the locker room and plopping down on the bench to take off your figure skates to place them in your locker and pull out your hockey skates, “He’ll never see it coming.”
“We’re coming to watch, we don’t want to miss this then.” Wheein added, a smirk coming to play on her lips. You quickly laced up your skates and made your way back out to the ice with the rest of the figure skating girls following you.
“I see you brought an audience.” Dino hummed from the sidelines with his other teammates.
“I did.” You husked, grabbing Seungkwan’s hockey stick from his hand, “I’ll return this to you once I’m done.”
“Don’t break it…” He whispered watching you step out onto the ice. Skating your way to the middle, you came face to face with Wonwoo who still wore his ego like a badge.
“Ready to lose?”
“In your dreams.”
“Players!” Seungcheol came up to you, with the puck in his hand, “May the odds be ever in your favor… Ready… Set… Go!” The puck fell to the ice and you were quick to swipe it out of his reach, immediately making your way towards his side of the rink. He was stunned about how quickly you got out of his sight that he raced towards you, but by the time he reached you, you were winding up all the way to deliver a slap shot to the puck. The sound of the guys screaming behind him made him freeze in his spot—he just lost the bet. The figure skating girls all screamed in your victory as you approached Wonwoo.
“Not just anyone can play hockey, huh?” You laughed a bit, readjusting your stance, “Maybe you should check the credentials of someone you challenge to a bet.”
“W-what do you mean?” He tripped over his words while furrowing his brows.
“Y/F/N Y/L/N, ring a bell?” You asked, crossing your arms.
“She has a hockey scholarship!” Wheein’s voice could be heard across the ice, to his surprise, he didn’t think that you were the one who got the scholarship spot.
“So, about our deal… I know I said you would have to stop talking down to us, but I wanted to add to my end of the deal.”
“Wait, you never—”
“When did you want to go on that date?”
