If you scroll down a bit, you'll see a post I did about Mullein.
If you don't remember, mullein is a flowering plant that is excellent for supporting lung health as it is an expectorant which helps the body expel excess mucus. It is commonly brewed as a tea and has traditionally been used to ease conditions like bronchitis thanks to also being a demulcent. That means mullein has anti inflammatory properties that create a soothing coating over mucous membranes.
Ok, that's great but where do I get it and how do I actually use it?
Besides finding a pre-made boxed tea or loose tea leaves this is a great follow up to that post that beautifully demonstrates a practical way to use Mullein at home.
Let me know if you try this and how it goes!

Rosemary Gladstar’s Fire Cider Recipe
Tumblr media
½ cup grated fresh horseradish root
½ cup or more fresh chopped onions
¼ cup or more chopped garlic
¼ cup or more grated ginger
Chopped fresh or dried cayenne pepper ‘to taste’. Can be whole or powdered. ‘ To Taste’ means should be hot, but not so hot you can’t tolerate it. Better to make it a little milder than to hot; you can always add more pepper later if necessary.
Optional ingredients; Turmeric, Echinacea, cinnamon, etc.
Place herbs in a half-gallon canning jar and cover with enough raw unpasteurized apple cider vinegar to cover the herbs by at least three to four inches. Cover tightly with a tight fitting lid.
Place jar in a warm place and let for three to four weeks. Best to shake every day to help in the maceration process.
After three to four weeks, strain out the herbs, and reserve the liquid.
Add honey ‘to taste’. Warm the honey first so it mixes in well. “To Taste’ means your Fire Cider should taste hot, spicy, and sweet. “A little bit of honey helps the medicine go down……”
Rebottle and enjoy! Fire Cider will keep for several months unrefrigerated if stored in a cool pantry. But it’s better to store in the refrigerator if you’ve room.
A small shot glass daily serves as an excellent tonic Or take teaspoons if you feel a cold coming on.
Take it more frequently if necessary to help your immune system do battle.

For this time of year, with so many supposed rains and changes in temperature, it’s great to wake up and drink a glass of warm water with lemon juice on an empty stomach. It’s a natural remedy that helps defenses, as well as it provides vitamin C, potassium and flavanones, promotes digestion and is also purifying and alkalizing. The recipe is easy, squeeze the juice from one lemon, heat a glass of water until it’s warm and, finally, add the lemon juice to the warm water. If you want to give it a more citric touch and enhance the benefits of the lemon, instead of just warming the water you can boil it with the lemon peel, then let it cool until it’s just warm enough to drink it and add the lemon juice! As with all remedies, not everyone reacts the same so my recommendation is to listen to your own body. Also, due to its acidity, it’s not recommended for people who have delicate teeth.🍋

Now that it's springtime let's talk about dandelions. We may be familiar with them as a common bright yellow weed in our yard that we spray with chemicals to eradicate, but dandelions, which are members of the Daisy family, are edible herbs that actually have beneficial properties.
The dandelion is an herb and it's roots, leaves, and flowers have been used to make everything from Tea, wine, and soup to salad and coffee alternatives. In salads Dandelion Greens are an excellent source of vitamins A, C, & K, folate, calcium, and potassium. What’s more, dandelion greens provide a substantial amount of several minerals, including iron, calcium, magnesium, and potassium.
So what are some ways Dandelion Helps the human body?
Well, to start Dandelion is also a natural diuretic which means it helps the kidneys clear out waste and excess water by increasing urine production and frequency of urination. Moreover, it aids in detoxification of the liver while increasing the production and release of bile. Even more exciting is the research being done regarding Dandelion Root Extract and it's ability to combat cancer.
How to eat dandelions. (*That haven't been treated with chemicals)
Greens: Dandelion leaves are on the bitter side, but they have a spicy kick similar to arugula. Try tossing some fresh, washed leaves into a salad. To take the edge off the bitterness, you can also cook them, Geib says. Soak the leaves in cold, salted water for 10 or 15 minutes, then cook them in boiling water until tender (no more than five minutes). Finish by sautéing the boiled greens with some olive oil, onion or garlic. Top with Parmesan cheese.
Flowers: Dandelions’ sunny blossoms give color to a salad. Use them fresh or dried to make dandelion tea — or brew dandelion wine. You can try infusing them into oil or vinegar, too, Geib suggests. (Dandelion-infused oil can also be used to make a salve that’s great for muscle aches.)
Roots: Roasted dandelion roots are used in a tasty drink similar to coffee. You can find dandelion-based coffee substitutes at health food stores.
Check out this video below for another great function of Dandelion: Skin Care. In this video you'll find a step by step tutorial on how to make a skin nourishing, dandelion infused oil.
