Getting tall
Summary: Damian finally hits his growth spurts and the fam have opinions. Some damijon, timkon, jaytemis, and dickori mentioned.
Damian was an adorable tiny murder baby when he first showed up at the manor. Like a feral kitten. Short end of normal growth at 10 years old and thin too, Dr Leslie found. Make sure he eats 3 square meals and snacks when he wants and he’ll be just fine. Alfred had made it his mission, as he had done for both Jason and Tim, to put weight on Damian.
The first family member he outgrew was Cass. She reached over to ruffle his hair only to reach up above her head rather than below it. She didn’t mind. 5’4 isn’t very tall. She’d just have to remember that the next time they spar. Height wasn’t an important factor to her.
It was a few months later that Damian hit a massive growth spurt and grew 4 inches. He passed by 5’6 Stephanie.
“Hey little dude. What are they puttin in your food, miracle grow?” She asked when she noted how tall he was and how big his feet had gotten. Damian was a bit like the giant puppies all gangly. Alfred was adjusting the Robin costume monthly after Damian rushed to put it on for patrol one day and every time he raised his arms he felt his stomach show. Clothes were constantly being bought that met his newest height increase. The Kents were very appreciative of the barely worn clothing Jon got as Damian went through another pair.
“I’m perfectly normal in growth,” he said pulling on the hem of his shirt that was growing shorter by the day. Stephanie eyed him but left it. Tim hated the height jokes they would make when everyone started passing him in height. Nowadays Tim just rolled his eyes and deferred all short jokes to Bart who Damian was now taller than. Bart didn’t care at all because he was short but he was also at least top 3 faster people ever so who cares right?
For a very short time, Damian was taller than Jon. He liked that. Jon thought it was pretty funny.
“D, I’m going to be taller. My dad and mom are both taller than yours. I’ll be taller in the end,” Jon said with a grin before Damian pushed him off the roof. Jon giggled and stared at Damian with obvious heart eyes. The kid was definitely smitten.
Tim was half an inch taller. He didn’t acknowledge it in any way. But it wasn’t surprising. His mother was tiny, his father lower end of average, and Tim probably skipped too many meals with working during an important growth phase while he was becoming Robin. 5’8.5 is a perfectly normal height for a man. He had an easier time with stealth.
Bruce watched as his son grew more handsome and taller everyday. He recognized things he hadn’t taken the time to see with Dick or Jason and had missed completely with Tim. Aftershave, cologne, and deodorant budget went up exponentially and Damian was barred from bringing any of his shoes in the house and his Robin uniform had to double washed occasionally. He spent far longer in the bathroom doing his hair and agonizing over any spot on his face.
Bruce even once caught Damian do the lean on the doorframe while talking to someone they like when Jon visited once. He had to give the worst birds and bees talk of all time. Bruce also noted how Damian had Talia’s nose and his lip curled the same way hers did when he smiled. He stretched when walking to the breakfast table the same way Dick did.
Damian didn’t get another true growth spurt for 2 years. There was plenty of jokes that he jumped up to his height and didn’t move again. Jon was once again taller than Damian. Alfred was ready this time with the massive amount of food the 15 year old could put away and panels in his costume for easier adjustments.
Talia smiled proudly at her son as he grew taller than her. He was turning out handsome like his father but kept her feature and in her mind, that was the perfect combo. She never told Damian because she didn’t him to grow arrogant.
Dick didn’t notice it right away. He was so busy with Bludhaven and the Titans that he didn’t notice Damian had gotten a full inch taller than him. He only realized when him and Damian practiced a complex move that required a taller and shorter partner while training. They paired up as they always did and the maneuver completely fell apart. Dick was mentally putting together why it failed when Damian walked over and it clicked. Little D was not so little anymore.
“You’re taller than me,” he said brightly. Damian immediately grinned.
“So now you’re little D,” Damian said back. Dick laughed at that one.
“Don’t let it go to your head. I can throw you around like a tilt-a-whirl,” Dick warned. Of course, that’s exactly what happened the next time they sparred when Damian tried to use his height advantage.
“I can beat Jason so don’t think you can beat me just by being bigger,” Dick said standing over Damian who rolled his eyes.
Dick had no problem with Damian getting taller. It was his own height he had a complicated relationship with. See, Dick grew up as an acrobat. Being tall is a disadvantage. More weight to swing, more body to move. And his father had told him growing up that almost every Grayson man has been 5’8. It’s a legacy as strong as flying above the circus crowd.
And so when at 15, Dick was very distraught with the fact that he hadn’t stopped growing at 5’8. It felt like a part of his history and family legacy had died. He wasn’t one of the 5’8 Grayson men. He never told anyone beside Kori, late at night where she told him she loved him tall or small. She had already far outpaced Dick and was on her way to being 6’4.
Duke and Alfred and Damian were the same height for a short while. Duke would joke that he could just wear the Robin’s costume since they were the same size. Damian would threaten to disembowel him if he touched it and that made Duke laugh even more.
When he grew taller Duke once again joked with Damian calling him a not so jolly green giant and Alfred considered his nutrition attempt a complete success. Damian went from a tiny kid to a tall strong young man.
Damian and Jon were practically the same size for a while. Jon barely bent his neck to rest his chin on Damian’s shoulder as his partner worked on a complex mechanical part. Then Jon hit another growth spurt to end in his final height of 6’2, same as Bruce and his father. Damian enjoyed having a taller boyfriend for a while but would never say anything. High school dances were nice.
Bruce could see Damian getting taller and stronger and was practically grown. Dr Leslie warned Bruce that growth could continue until Damian was in his early 20s and he could end up a quite tall young man or stop tomorrow.
Jason liked being the tallest and biggest in the family. He had an entire inch in height on Bruce and was at least 20 lbs heavier. He was built like tank. When Jason had died at 15, he was terrifyingly thin. Alfred had tried his best but Jason had suffered malnutrition and hunger from practically birth. He was short and thin and Dr Leslie had told Bruce he probably always would be. And so when Jason came back to life a giant 6’3 and over 200 lbs, it was a shock. It took him forever to accept his size as anything more than an amour to create fear in his enemies. The first time he had accidentally scared a woman walking in the street at night, Jason had hated that he was so big. But within his family, it had become a source of pride. He was certainly taller than Dick and Alfred and even Bruce.
So when he visited Cass’s birthday party and Jason stood next to Damian and realized that the kid was taller than him, he was a little shocked. Damian had reached his final height of 6’4.
“When the hell did you get so big?” Jason asked while cake was being served. Dick nosed in the conversation.
“Little D is taller than you now,” he said with a teasing grin at Jason.
“And yet you insist on calling me Little D,” Damian said with an eye roll.
“I call him Big D,” Jon said with a smile. Dick blanched and Jason coughed out an awkward laugh.
“Good for you, bro,” he said patting Damian on the back. Jon blushed at the sudden understanding.
“No! I mean- he’s taller than me. I didn’t mean- uh,” Jon stuttered. Damian grabbed him by the shoulder and dragged him away from his brothers who were laughing.
“It’s weird you know,” Jason admitted, scratching the back of his neck.
“The fact that he is dating Jon?”
“No, they’ve been together forever. That he’s taller than me,” Jason said.
“Are you- does it bother you that you aren’t the tallest?” Dick asked with a gleeful smile.
“No,” Jason said abruptly.
“It could be like how I learned my little brother was bigger than me,” Dick teased. “All of a sudden you were just massive. My tiny little brother was this big dude. Good thing I’m comfortable with my masculinity.”
“Your girlfriend is like 6 inches taller than you. If that isn’t emasculating then there’s nothing I could do,” Jason answered.
“Yeah, she’s always been taller than me,” Dick said with a fond smile. “You can’t talk with the Amazon you’ve been hanging with.” He pushed Jason’s shoulder with a grin.
“We’re just friends-I guess,” Jason said uncomfortable. “That’s not the same-“
“Well at least Tim will always be our little brother,” Dick changed the subject but mentally noted Jason’s reaction to the mention of Artemis.
“Yeah, he’ll always be a shrimp,” Jason agreed.
“Honestly fuck you both,” Tim said from across the room. With Kon standing next to him he certainly looked tiny.
“Hey, it’s my birthday and I am the shortest and I can still kick all of your butts,” Cassandra reminded them both and they laughed but neither corrected her because they knew she was right.

Tumblr media
You pull into the parking space the valet wrote on your ticket and park with a dramatic exhale of relief. You’ve actually gone through with it and made the three hour drive up to Dallas to surprise Jared at his convention this weekend.
It had been years since your last high school reunion in Austin when you’d run into each other and wound up drunk in a Waffle House at three in the morning, stuffing your faces with bacon and french fries. You and he were the kind of friends that were awful at keeping in touch but time traveled straight back to junior year anytime you ran into each other. You’ve always been able to talk and laugh like only a weekend had passed between visits instead of years.
You hope Jared’s happy to see you, because you’ve been bursting at the seams with excitement since you came up with your ‘surprise’ plan.
The hotel lobby is swarming with fans and you wonder how on earth you’re going to find Jared in all the bustle. Your plan is to find someone who looks like they’re working the convention and ask for directions to Jared and Jensen’s bodyguard, Clif, who you hope to God remembers dropping your drunk ass off at your apartment after the Waffle House incident. It’s not a very elegant plan but it’s all you’ve got. You spot someone with a lanyard and a walkie-talkie and beeline toward them, fingers crossed in your pocket.
Twenty minutes and several tiers up the convention staff hierarchy later you’re finally led to a service hallway and ushered towards a door, Clif standing guard stoically outside it. The employee escorting you speaks quietly to Clif while you stand there awkwardly, rocking back and forth, toes to heel, in an effort to contain your nervous energy. A look of recognition slowly dawns across the bodyguard’s face as he takes another look at you.
“Austin, a couple years ago?” he asks to confirm.
“High school reunion,” you nod in affirmation, relieved he actually does remember you.
“No getting Jared drunk until after the panel,” Clif admonishes, aiming a thick finger menacingly at your face, and you nod gravely before his face cracks into a grin and he swings the door behind him back on its hinges.
“Y/N?!” Jared’s facing the door and spots you immediately, his face breaking into a wide smile. The anxiety that had solidified in your chest with each passing mile on your way here disintegrates, carrying the tension out of your body as it melts away.
“Hey there, Hot Shot.”
Jared bounds forward and wraps you tightly in a hug, the muscles in his arms visibly bulging the sleeves of his t-shirt as he squeezes you against him, which you can’t help but notice because your eye level is at his bicep. You hug him back as tightly as you can manage, pressing your cheek into his chest.
“How ya doin’, squirt?” Jared grabs your shoulders and manhandles you away from him so he can get a better look at you, his eyes racing up and down your figure. “What are you doing here?”
“Well, Dallas is only a three hour drive,” you shrug. It’s no big deal really, you’d just wanted to see him. “Plus my mom cancelled our girls’ weekend, so I had nothing better to do,” you grin, your eyes twinkling up at him wryly. Behind you, you hear Jensen snort with laughter. Jared turns to his friend, giving him a withering look and Jensen chokes back another laugh, unable to hide his amusement.
“Dude, you were her back-up plan after her mom?”
“Shut up,” Jared rolls his eyes but you join in Jensen’s giggles.
“I’m Jensen, by the way,” the man in question raises a hand in greeting, and you smile back.
“Y/N,” you wave. “Went to high school with this nut case,” you jerk your thumb towards Jared.
“Feels like I do too,” Jensen laughs. “He still acts like he’s fourteen most of the time.”
“Hey!” Jared points an accusing finger at Jensen, “at least fifteen, thank you very much.”
“And what exactly is the distinction between fourteen and fifteen here, Jay?” he asks.
“He doesn’t pop a boner every time he talks to a girl anymore?” you offer, snickering. Jensen bursts out laughing, a full bellied, joyous sound that fills out every corner of the room. Jared is rolling his eyes again, but you spy the faint blush that’s started to creep up his neck, and based on the smirk Jensen’s wearing, you think he’s spotted it too.
“So,” Jared draws out the syllable, trying to change the topic. “Are you staying for the convention then?”
“Got my ticket and everything,” you wave your pass in the air. “But mainly I just wanted to see you, it’s been way too long.”
“Yeah, it has,” Jared squeezes your arm affectionately. “Where’s your seat? I think we’re getting called out soon.”
“Oh I’m with the plebs at the back, standing room. Seeing your ass is only worth so much money,” you tease.
“You’re standing?” Jared’s brow shoots up. “You won’t be able to see a damn thing,” he laughs.
“You’re tall enough to see from space, Bigfoot,” you try to hit him on the head but he easily stretches his neck so you can’t reach, illustrating your point.
“She’s gotcha there, J-Rod,” Jensen agrees, strolling forwards and smacking Jared on the back of the head for you, since your attempt was foiled. “But you don’t have to stand all the way back there, sweetheart,” Jensen adds. “Come out with us, we’ll have someone put you at the side of the stage.”
“Oh, no, it’s fine. I really don’t mind standing,” you protest. You didn’t want to take space away from the fans who had paid for the close seats. You’re only a casual watcher of the show anyways, ghosts and monsters aren’t so much your thing, you just watch it because of Jared.
“Nah, c’mon,” Jared ignores your protest, striding back towards the door and popping his head out to talk to Clif. “Can you have them slap an extra chair on the side of the stage? Y/N’s gonna stick around for the panel.”
“Sure thing,” Clif nods, and radioes a volunteer to get it done.
“Jared,” you roll your eyes at your friend.
“Too late,” he taunts. “You’re stuck with the fangirls now.”
“Just keep in mind all the shit I could tell them,” you threaten jokingly.
“Nah, you won’t do that.” Jared’s entirely unconcerned.
“Why not?”
“Because then I won’t pay for our drinks tab later,” he smirks.
You mime turning a lock and throwing away the key. “My lips are sealed.”
“You better tell me later though, sweetheart,” Jensen ducks his head to whisper in your ear as they usher you out the door.
“Buy me a couple cosmos, you can know anything you want,” you smirk, and let Jensen and Jared guide you out to the convention hall for their panel.
“I will definitely take you up on that,” Jensen’s breath ghosts ticklishly over your ear. He shoots you a wink as he ducks behind a dividing curtain and you wave back giggling, and make your way to the seat Clif is pointing you towards.
Tumblr media
The panel is a whole lot of fun, and you have to admit it’s definitely better sitting up front than it would have been fighting to stay standing in the sea of hormones jostling at the back. This close up, you can see Jared and Jensen’s reactions much more clearly, too; every secretive grin between them, every twitching laugh line, every aborted glance back in your direction. Laughter rings through the crowd and you refocus your attention on the questions.
“Which one of us is the biggest what?” Jensen speaks into his mic, asking the girl on the opposite side of the stage to you to repeat her question.
“Well I’m the biggest,” Jared cuts in smirking, and the audience cheers and giggles. Jared flashes them a bright, goofy smile.
“Well, that depends on what she’s asking,” Jensen smacks Jared on the arm. The girl tries to ask her question again but she’s laughing through it and the words come out garbled again.
“Which one of us has the biggest pants?” Jared’s brow raises as he incorrectly repeats the question again. You know there’s no way that’s what the girl asked. “That’s still me darlin’.” He turns to your side of the stage goddamn winks, and you flush just as deeply as the girl asking her question. You roll your eyes at him, glad that he probably can’t see you very clearly due to the stage lights shining in his eyes.
“That topic is still up for debate, actually,” Jensen protests seriously.
“No it’s not,” Jared scoffs.
“Uh, yeah, it is.” Jensen’s not backing down. “Costume department compared our measurements bro, they’re the same.”
“You and I both know that didn’t include the measurement they’re talking about,” Jared glares jokingly out at the audience.
There’s wolf whistles and shrieks of delight from the crowd and Jensen bursts out laughing. “You’re gonna give them all aneurysms, man.”
You certainly feel like you might be having an aneurysm. Your blood is pumping hot and hard through your veins. You can actually hear it swirling around your body, leaking out into your capillaries, carrying burning embarrassment and desire to the tips of each vessel.
It’s a running joke, the size difference between you and Jared. He towers over most of the people he meets, so it’s not unsurprising that he towers over you as well. He’s called you ‘squirt’ as long as you can remember knowing him, and you’ve called him every name you can dream up, from ‘sasquatch’ to ‘jolly green giant’.
As you both grew older, and Jared’s physique caught up to his height, and your mind started to take up a more permanent residence in…ahem… lower places than it had inhabited in your youth, you began to wonder just how big Jared would be if you ever… You imagine big. Proportional, at the very least. Though, Jared has always been an overachiever, you imagine it might extend to this measurement as well. You secretly hope, anyway.
You gulp nervously. There’s a reason you and Jared had gotten so trashed the last time you’d hung out, and that was so you could drown your burgeoning crush in some socially acceptable poison and hope it didn’t break its head through the surface. Jared looks back at you and flashes you a smile, probably in relation to whatever he’d just said but you hadn’t been listening, mind too preoccupied thinking about the size of your friend’s dick. You let out a sigh of resignation – you were going to have to get smashed tonight, too.
“Oh,” Jensen’s voice rings through the auditorium as he finally understands the question. “Which one of us did the biggest prank?”
“Uh, Jensen,” Jared answers after a moment of dramatised consideration, “just now when he told you all he has a bigger dick than me.”
There’s an echoing thud as Jensen smacks Jared’s head with his microphone and Jared and Jensen both double up laughing, covering their mics so it doesn’t reverberate around the room. When things settle down after a minute you see Jensen lean towards Jared to say something privately. The mics don’t pick it up, but you’re close enough that you think you hear him say, “later tonight, we’re getting out the ruler.”
Tumblr media
The hotel bar is basically empty, but you and Jared are still in a private room at the back so he doesn’t get mobbed by fans if they do happen to wander in. Jensen had joined you for a drink earlier, but he had to leave to perform at the Saturday night concert for the convention.
-
“Do you ever perform on Saturdays?” you poked at Jared, and both he and Jensen laughed wildly.
“Never in a million years,” Jared shook his head. “I just watch this guy give everyone in the room phantom orgasms all night.”
“Gross, dude,” Jensen shuddered as Jared guffawed but you had to agree, Jensen’s voice was orgasmic.
“Have fun with your ménage a several hundreds,” you waved Jensen off with a giggle.
“You’ll have to join in sometime,” Jensen backed out of the room with a wicked grin, wiggling his eyebrows ridiculously and leaving you and Jared laughing behind him.
-
“You want another one?” Jared asks, pointing at your nearly empty glass.
“If I have any more I’ll have to crawl back to Austin,” you hiccup, the alcohol making you giggle-y and unsteady despite your seated state.
“You’re not goin’ back to Austin, squirt,” Jared protests, drowning the remainder of his own glass.
“Am I being kidnapped?”
“Damn straight. You’re not driving anywhere tonight, don’t be stupid.”
“I was gonna dry out a little first,” you defend yourself. Of course you weren’t planning to drive home drunk.
“By the time you sober up it will be way too late to go back. Just stay the night here,” Jared shrugs, indicating it’s no big deal for you to crash. You think about it for a moment and then agree that staying over is a better plan. Besides, Jared will have a big fancy room since the convention is paying for them to stay here – he’ll have plenty of space for you.
“Fine,” you sigh dramatically but you aren’t all that perturbed, and Jared knows it too. “Thank you.”
“What are friends for?” Jared grins. “C’mon, I’ll grab a bottle from the bar and let’s go upstairs. I don’t want to get caught in the crowd after the concert finishes.” You also don’t want to be mobbed by hundreds of concert goers, so you happily follow Jared out of the bar and up to his hotel room.
Jared flops dramatically onto his bed when you get inside, but you stand by the door, taking in your surroundings. As you’d imagined, the room is lavish. Every piece of furniture is accented with metallics, and every soft surface is heaped with pillows, including the bed Jared is now snuggling back onto. But, you note with a bit of surprise, there is only one bed.
Apparently fancy doesn’t automatically come with multiple beds – and why should it? Jared hadn’t expected anybody to stay the night, he’d only needed the one bed. Had he known there was only one bed when he offered you a place to crash for the night? Or had someone else brought up the luggage that you could see piled at the foot of the bed, meaning he wouldn’t have known what the exact sleeping situation would turn out to be? You’re jolted out of your frenzied contemplation when Jared throws a pillow at your head, though it narrowly misses and hits the door behind you.
“Are you just gonna stand there all night?” he laughs, eyes crinkling.
“Uh, no, course not,” you scoff, hoping Jared assumes the flush creeping over your skin is from alcohol, and not embarrassment. Jared scoots over to one side of the bed and pats the empty space he’s just created. The bottle of whiskey he’d brought from the bar downstairs is propped next to him on the pillows and it bounces as you settle yourself on top of the covers. You reach for it and peel back the foil cap, pulling the cork free with a pop.
“Wanna watch something?” Jared rifles on the side of the bed, digging for his laptop in the bag on the floor.
“Whatever you want,” you shrug.
You inwardly hope watching something might help you control your drunk chatter. Your mind has been wandering to one specific place since the panel this afternoon and you’re hyper aware that when you get tipsy, your filter becomes non existent. You do not want to give Jared an unsolicited insight into your horribly inappropriate mind.
Your eyes shift from the bottle in your hands to Jared’s laptop, now open and sitting on his thighs while he surfs through movie options online. His hands overwhelm the breadth of the keyboard, the pads of each long finger almost bigger than the letter keys they’re hovering over. How far could those fingers reach if they were… No. You curtail that course of thought with a swig of whiskey straight from the bottle and flick your eyes away from his hands.
Jared’s legs are pressed together, gangly limbs and knees scrunched up and pushing the fabric at his hips into ripples. An unmissable bulge sits at the apex of his thighs, distending the denim so it’s stretched tightly across his cock while it’s bunched and wrinkled everywhere else. You swallow hard and tear your gaze away, forcing yourself to look back at Jared’s laptop. He’s stopped scrolling now, and after a moment you realise he’s asking you if the movie he’s hovering over is an okay choice. You nod mutely and take another drink.
“Woah there darlin’, save some for the rest of us,” he laughs, grabbing the bottle from your hands, fingertips brushing over yours as he wraps them around the green glass. You wonder if Jared feels the same pang of electricity that you do when you touch. He’s evidently curious as to why you recoiled so quickly, because he’s now carefully studying your hand and the fingers that had just brushed against his.
Your moment of thick silence is interrupted by the fanfare of opening credits as the movie begins to play, startling you. Jared smooshes himself further back into the feather pillows on the unfairly comfy bed and stretches his arms wide, patting the pillow he’s using as an armrest to summon you to him.
Nervous and giddy all at once, you tuck yourself into the crook of his arm, curling up against his side. Even laying down he feels so much bigger than you. Your eyes drop again, unbidden, to his lap and you rip your gaze away quickly. The whiskey must be settling in now, because you start to feel sleepy and because, for just a second, you think that the bulge in Jared’s crotch looks even larger than it had a few minutes earlier.
Jared pulls you close against him, offering you the whiskey bottle again, and you take it happily. The two of you lazily glug more booze and laugh along with whatever comedy is on the laptop, and you’re utterly content. At some point in time your neck loses its ability to support your head and you topple it sideways onto Jared’s shoulder.
“You comfy there, Y/N?”
“Mm-hmm,” you hum sleepily, snuggling even deeper into Jared’s chest, your arm winding itself around his waist of its own accord, and Jared squeezes you against him, laughing softly into your hair.
Tumblr media
You aren’t sure when you fell asleep – you don’t remember the end of the movie at all. You don’t even remember how you’d wound up under the covers, cradled snugly in the bend of Jared’s body. Wiggling a little to reintroduce feeling into your left arm, you shift backwards into his chest, secretly hoping the arm currently resting on top of the covers might drop around your waist as you continue to sleep.
Arching out to stretch your legs a little, you wind up nudging your hips back into Jared’s and you freeze in shock. Here, pressed close beneath the confines of cotton-swaddled feathers, you feel it… and you can tell – Jared hadn’t been kidding at the panel earlier. He must be bigger than Jensen, because there’s no way anyone could be physically larger than what you feel pressing into the curve of your ass right now.
Your whole body flushes, but you’re too scared to move away lest you wake Jared, so you stay. You try to breathe, systematically unclenching the muscles in your body from head to toe and allowing yourself to relax against your bed companion. Darkness settles around you when your eyes drift shut again but the light from Jared’s laptop still casts a faint blue tint against your eyelids.
That comforting blue morphs into a shocking orange, and your eyes squint against the unexpected source of light now coming from the open door. Seconds later it’s even brighter as the lights in the room are switched on to reveal Jensen leaning casually against the back of the door, smirking in the direction of the bed. Behind you, Jared has jolted awake, sitting up and pitching you forward into the mattress with the force of his disturbance.
“Jay?” he asks blearily, yawning through the word.
“Why did I have a feeling this is what I’d be walking into tonight?” Jensen answers with a laugh and a kind roll of his eyes. You look sleepily between both of the men, confused as all hell.
Finally, it occurs to you why Jensen must be in the room – and why there had only been one bed.

Tire Tracks
pairing: street racer! bakugou x mechanic! y/n
words: 2.8k
warnings: language
Cars were your whole life. You grew up in your father’s mechanic shop and learned everything you knew from him. Customers came and went, some more frequently than others, but cars were the one constant thing in your life. You were able to lose yourself in the process of finding and fixing problems, speaking better with parts than with people.
You barely even registered the smell of oil and gasoline anymore. The thin layer of grime that coated your arms was like a second skin, and you were at home here. The cars all around you purred and multiple gaudy sound systems pounded in the crisp night air. The roar of engines was music to your ears, and you had spent the first 45 minutes of the meet up going around looking at the different setups people had.
Now, though, you were doing final checks on the one car that brought you here: Bakugou’s suped up racer. You rebuilt most of the engine yourself, put countless hours into making it faster and stronger. This car was your baby just as much as it was his, and you felt a twinge of nerves knowing what was to come.
“Everything ready down there?” barked the man in question. You finished double checking the last bolt before pushing yourself out from under the vehicle, only to find the blonde staring down at you impatiently.
“Yeah, it looks fine, no thanks to you,” you huffed, sitting up and wiping your hands on a nearby towel. “Listen, I get that you’re gonna go hard tonight, but if you fuck this car up again, I swear I’m done with you.” You put as much threat into your voice as possible as you stood, putting a hand to your hip and glaring at him.
A sly grin split his sharp features. “Aww come on, Y/N, we both know you wouldn’t give up that easy on her,” he taunted, placing an elbow on top of the car and rapping it with his knuckles. “You love her too much.”
He wasn’t wrong, this car was your pride and joy. “You’re right. It’s the person inside I’m worried about,” you rolled your eyes and turned away to open the hood. You had already triple checked everything underneath, but you needed something to occupy yourself with, so you didn’t have to be around Bakugou.
You had known the fired-up blonde ever since middle school, when his dad started coming to yours for maintenance. See, his dad was a local racer, and heard that your dad had the best service around. Well, he would often bring Bakugou in order to teach him about the inner workings of a car. Because of this, the two of you had practically grown up together, spending weekends at the racetrack and weekdays learning what your fathers had to teach you.
But that didn’t mean you liked one another.
Katsuki had always been full of himself. It could have been because of his looks or his dad’s success, or any other factor, you didn’t really care. All you knew was you hadn’t had a normal conversation in longer than you could remember. They always ended in one of you riling the other up, sometimes becoming yelling matches if things got really serious.
You sometimes questioned why you still worked with him, the little asshole. When you both turned 16, your parents decided to buy a junk car, and have you fix it together to test how much you had learned over the years. It took almost 6 months to get it into good shape, but you did it, the only setback being that you were constantly bickering. It was nearly impossible to make decisions about what to do because neither of you wanted to give in to the other.
After that, you continued to work on cars and decided to go to mechanic school after high school. Katsuki went to a traditional 4-year college, and you thought that would be the end of your tormented relationship with him, but no. He contacted you after two years and asked if you would help him with a project, which you agreed to. Ever since then, you’ve become somewhat of a team, travelling around the country to compete in race after race. Some were sanctioned and official, while others tore through backroads and had come to an end when the cops arrived.
Bakugou was one of the best street racers in the country, pushing himself and his vehicle harder than most were willing to do. His lack of inhibition and self-confidence were the keys to his success. Well, those and the fact that you were always there to fix up the damage he caused. You had been doing this together for four years, now each 24 years old, and you couldn’t help but admit that these races made you feel… alive. The whine of an engine as it shoots past you at near top speed, the screeching of tires as they skidded around tight turns, it was all like a fever dream.
The only issue with Bakugou’s racing was he tended to be reckless. Scuffed paint jobs, cracked tire plates, he always pushed his cars to their very limit and made you deal with fixing his mess afterword. Yes, sometimes he would help you, but seeing as you were the actual mechanic on the team you were stuck with the majority, if not all of the work.
“This race’ll be easy, Y/N. Don’t even worry. I mean, we’re gonna be on a dirt road in the middle of a field for god’s sakes, at least there are no buildings or streetlights to worry about,” he called from his place beside the car.
“That’s exactly what I’m worried about,” you groaned. “You’ll look at that open road and think it’s okay to push as hard as you can!”
“Babe, that’s what makes me so good,” he chuckled, stepping up beside you at the hood.
He always did that, calling you pet names just to piss you off. It always did, making your insides squirm with distaste. At least, you told yourself it was distaste.
“You’ve already checked this thing like four times, just settle down it’s fine.” His voice, normally course like metal grating together, had a softer edge to it. You looked up at him, your eyes meeting his crimson ones, and nodded. Pulling the hood shut, you turned around and leaned against it, crossing your arms. You looked over Bakugou as he pulled out his phone to send a text.
He’d recently gotten a haircut, shaving the sides of his head short and leaving the top to its normal spikes, and you had to admit, you thought it suited him better. It showed off his sharp jawline, which had only grown sharper as you got older. His bare arms were cut, unsurprising as he spent a great deal of time in the gym. He wore his signature high-necked black cutoff with a bold red X on the front, with army green cargo pants that cinched at the ankles. As per usual when he raced, he did his dramatic eye black to intimidate his opponents. It usually worked.
“Listen, I just don’t want you messing her up again, okay? I put so much into this car and the past three races I’ve had to set aside hours to fix her. I can’t keep doing that when I have paying customers that need my help too,” you tried to explain calmly. His head snapped up.
“I’m a paying customer too, don’t I get the same attention that your others get?”
“You’re more of a…side hustle.” The words came out with a bit of a grin.
One of his arched eyebrows raised dangerously. “A side hustle? What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Working with you is like a second job. I spend so much time on this damn car, and looking at your ugly mug, that it’s like working another part-time job on top of the shop.”
His lips turned down in a scowl and he took a menacing step forward. “First off, you get half the earnings every time I win. I don’t have to do that. Second, I’m hot as fuck, thank you very much.”
You scoffed. “You’re average at best,” you lied. You agreed with him of course, but you’d never tell him that even if you were on your deathbed. “Also, the earnings are the way you pay me for all the shit I do for you, remember? That’s the agreement. Plus, most of that money goes right back into her,” you smacked the hood. “So, in reality you pay way less than any of my other costumers.”
He paused at this, taking in your words. “Guess you like me that much, huh,” he chuckled after a moment. The words brought a flush to your face, and you silently thanked the fact that it was nighttime, and the only illumination came from the cars around you.
“No, it’s just because I’ve known you for years. Sometimes I consider upping your rates though, just to piss you off.”
That got him scowling again, an expression that made you much more comfortable than that devious smirk. “I hope you know your sense of humor really sucks.”
“Bakugou!” A rough voice called from behind the blonde, making him roll his eyes and turn around.
“What do you want, shark week?” He growled, facing Kirishima who was making his way over with a smile.
“Just came to make sure you were still up for this race,” the red head grinned, displaying his sharp teeth.
“You really think I’d back down against someone like you?” Bakugou crossed his arms and relaxed onto one leg. “This is gonna be easy as shit.”
Kirishima chuckled, “Don’t count me out so quick man, might not be as easy as you think.” He glanced over Bakugou’s shoulder and spotted you behind him. “Hey Y/N, you here to patch his ass up after the race?”
“You know me so well, Kiri,” you smirked. Bakugou let out a grunt, punching Kirishima’s shoulder playfully, the other man simply laughing at the disgruntled racer. “Best of luck out there,” you smiled genuinely. You had known Kirishima since high school, where he and Bakugou were best friends. They frequently raced these days, constantly trying to one up each other and keeping a running tally of who won. Currently Bakugou was up by two, if you remembered correctly.
“Thanks Y/N, your faith means the world,” he replied with another toothy smile.
“Hey, quit trying to poach my mechanic,” Bakugou yelled spiritedly.
At this, Kirishima simply laughed, turning to leave. “Just came to say good luck man, I would never try to steal her away from ya. You’re like a match made in heaven. I don’t know anyone else who could put up with your bullshit.”
“I don’t know of anyone else either, I’m really doing the world a favor, huh,” you called, loving the way your blonde partner whirled around and glared at you.
“See you guys after the race!” And with that, Kiri was walking back to his own car.
Bakugou stood there for a moment before turning around to return to the car. He was quiet for a moment before speaking up. “Y’know, you don’t have to keep working with me if you don’t want to. I’ll understand if you don’t…” he said, so softly you almost didn’t hear.
You looked over at him in surprise, “What do you mean, I never said I don’t want to work with you.” It was so unlike him to say things like this that you were completely taken aback.
“It didn’t sound like that just now,” he grumbled, not looking at you. “I know I can be a lot to handle, so I guess I wouldn’t blame you.”
You chuckled, making him look up curiously. “Bakugou, I’m a lot to put up with too. I’ve known you for long enough that it doesn’t even phase me anymore,” you said honestly.
He stared at you for a moment longer than necessary, making you flush slightly. “Yeah, whatever,” he growled in classic Bakugou fashion.
“Racers!” came a shout from nearby. The official of the race stood between the two cars, looking to the two men. “Are you both ready to go?” Both gave a thumbs up, and the man nodded. “Come line up at the start then!”
Bakugou took a deep breath before putting on his jet-black helmet and getting into his car with a sharp slam of his door. You moved away from the vehicle to let him go line up before returning to the side to say your final words to him. “Remember what I said,” you warned, leaning against the rolled down window. “Don’t fuck her up this time, got it?”
He smirked at you and narrowed his eyes. “There’s nothing to worry about Y/N, this is an easy course.” “It better be, for your sake,” you rolled your eyes with a grin. You loved how amped up he got at the starting line.
“See you on the other side, kid,” he nodded. You gave him a thumbs up and stepped away from the car. The official made his way into the center of the two cars, and you made yours over to your pickup truck to watch the race. You climbed up into the bed and leaned against the cabin to look over the field. From up there you could see almost the entire track, and since the cars’ lights would be on you wouldn’t have any problem keeping track of them.
You watched as the official signaled to prepare to start, the engines of both cars revving loudly. A crowd had gathered to watch, and you smirked, knowing that only got Bakugou more amped. Loudly counting down from three, the official dropped the flag and the two vehicles were off, tearing into the darkness as fast as possible.
Bakugou accelerated just a bit faster, edging in front of Kirishima, who swerved slightly to avoid him. They made their way around the course, Bakugou maintaining the lead for most of the time, but losing it several times. Nearing one of the final bends, you saw the headlights on Bakugou’s car dip dramatically and fall a bit behind Kirishima’s for a moment before pulling back ahead. You got a bad feeling in your stomach at that. However, it was over in an instant, the blonde coming in first by a decent margin.
As he got out of the car, Bakugou was swarmed by the crowd. It took you a moment to make it out in the semidarkness and jumble of bodies, but as you hopped out of the bed of your truck and made your way over to Bakugou, you spotted it. The left half of his front bumper was crumpled and scraped. Anger swelled in your stomach, and you pushed forward with renewed vigor, shoving people aside and coming to a halt in front of the man in question.
“What the fuck Bakugou?! What did I tell you literally RIGHT before you left?” You got in his face as he took off his helmet and tucked it under his arm. “Look at your fucking bumper! How the hell do you explain that, huh?!” Your anger at his carelessness blinded you to the way he was looking at you, the hunger in his eyes.
Just as you were about to go off again, you felt his hand grasping your chin roughly. This was such an unexpected move that your mind blanked in the seconds to come. “God you’re fuckin sexy when you’re mad,” Bakugou growled, pausing a moment before hungrily pressing his lips to yours. The first thing you registered was the heat. They were burning against yours, and they were soft, much softer than you would have guessed.
Snapping back to yourself, you put a hand on his chest – his muscular chest – and pushed away. You looked away, trying to clear your head. “Woah, you can’t just… kiss me…” you gasped.
“Why not?” He murmured in your ear, absolutely glowing with his victory. He was always an impulsive guy, but that doubled when he won. He was known to break things when he beat someone, so part of you wasn’t surprised that he did that, but it was so unexpected that you never would have thought it would happen.
You looked up at him and found a grin resting on his lips. You felt something in you snap, something that had been holding you back from what you’d wanted to do so many times before but never had the courage to do. Giving a minute shrug, you said fuck it and went in again. It wasn’t a sweet kiss though. He threaded his fingers through your hair, and the hand holding his helmet released it, coming to dig into your waist. It was hot and heavy, filled with anger and pent up emotion and victory. It was a kiss years in the making, and you couldn’t deny that you wanted it to happen. This man was leaving tire tracks on your heart, driving right through the barriers you tried to put up to block him out.
And you were okay with that.

warnings: light swearing, not proof read
authors note: first fic posted! i originally had a fred fic lined up but could’t get this idea out of my head. reader is in Gryffindor!
It was approaching christmas time and as per usual Hogwarts was all decked out with decor of all kinds, christmas songs playing, rich scents of cinnamon and fire and of course the snow that covered the campus every year.
It was utterly magical.
You had been on the Gryffindor quidditch team since your second year as a chaser and since then you had made it your mission for your team to dress christmas theme for your last game of the season before break. This year was no different.
The bag of charmed headbands swayed in your grip as you walked through the cold halls to find your teammates. Donned in your gryffindor quidditch sweater, school skirt and casual shoes you were practically skipping down the corridor while looking out to the snow covered courtyard. With your head in the clouds and your mind on the festivities coming up you were blissfully unaware of the pair of Weasleys that were currently barreling toward you before it was too late.
Frantic hands made their way to grip your shoulders with anticipation before a female voice was booming down the stone halls, echoing directly to your direction.
“y/n! please! you have to help us. We swear we didn’t mean it!” George’s voice filled your ears while he continued to duck behind you
“yeah honest! we had no clue that angie was walking our way!” fred flailed before hiding behind his twin who was hiding behind you. Before you had time to properly retaliate a fuming Angelina was heading straight for you and the boys.
“You two have done it this time! do you know how long it takes me to wash my hair let alone style it exactly how i want it!? ugh! and we have a match this afternoon I’m not going to have enough time!” Angelina launched herself over your shoulder in an attempt to grab their shirts
You were always somehow caught in the middle of the twins an angle’s antics. Moments before disaster struck the chasers wrists were caught in your hands.
“angie! go find hermione, she surely knows a spell to fix your hair. she has a spell for quite literally everything!” your face was soft as you spoke in an attempt to sooth evergrowing temper. She took a deep breath in and out and nodded to you, giving you the okay to let her go the twins still making the effort to stay behind you where they thought they were safe.
Once Angelina had stalked off to go and find the young witch you turned around to face the pair of freckled faced fifth years with your hands on your hips, silently waiting for an explanation.
George was the first to break.
“y/n we swear on our own graves that the slimey slugs were’t meant for her! we swear!” the younger twin pleaded
“please don’t tell Mcgonagall! or wood! oh for the love of merlin and mum’s apple pie please don’t tell Oli anything”
at this point the pair of them were practically on their knees which is a sight your personally don't see too often but unfortunately all good things must come to an end.
“truthfully boys as much as i would love to stand here and have you beg on your knees for my forgiveness I have things to do today, starting off by giving you two the prop for this year’s last game!” the enthusiasm practically seething off you as you rummage through the bag to find the two matching headbands you had organised for the boys.
“like every other year, identical and charmed to stay on all game: just how you liked it.”
the pair beamed at you and gratefully took them from your hands
“you two would’t have to know where golden boy is, do you? i want to give him his now before he gets too in ‘in the mode’ for this afternoon”
the twins looked at each other thoughtfully “we saw him in the great hall before running into you. he was alone and kind of just minding his own business so you should get to that asap” Fred answered, proping his arm up on his other half’s shoulders.
George was trying to get a peak inside the bag you were still holding, probably to try to see which headpiece you had picked to sit on top of your captain’s head for the game.
“Say, y/n, what do you have dear ol’ oliver wearing this year? trying to see who’s the favourite”
Fred lightly scoffed “C’mon Georgie, you and I both know who the favourite is”
Although he wore a playful smirk and his tone was half joking he was right. The twins, along with literally everyone else, knew exactly who your favourite was but it’s not like you made any proper effort to hide it. As you got older, the less care you had about exposing your own feelings to the whole school. You had become shamelessly flirtatious with your captain with him often returning the comments; despite this you never did truly understand where exactly you stood with oliver. you knew he liked you but you did’t know the extent of it or if he only had eyes for you.
you went along with fred nonetheless.
“yeah sorry, G you know who’s first place in my book” you said confidently while pulling out a set of antlers and a bright red nose. The twins stood dumbfounded before snickering.
“he won’t wear that” fred said flat out
“hmm not too sure about that my dear brother”
“you have more of a chance of Georgie here landing a date with Angelina than you do getting wood to actually wear that on the pitch against Slytherin”
you smirked wickedly and turned on your heel “you, my dear friend, are going to be proven wrong”
*****
okay so Fred wasn’t that wrong.
“Oli pleasee, we do it every year” you dramatically drew out
currently, you were sat straddling the seat whilst looking at oliver infront of you who was running over the drills out in front of him. He looked up from his parchment at you and tilted his head
“l/n I’m not wearing antlers and a bright red nose to a quidditch game! i probably won’t be able to play”
you huffed but refused to give up the fight.
“they’re charmed to stay on through the whole game so you can play AND they will bring you extra good luck while we’re out there” you exclaimed as you picked up the red nose from the table and began fiddling with it. Oliver looked from your hands to your face and sighed.
“what do you mean ‘good luck’” he raised an eyebrow at you with curiosity laced in his words, almost like he wanted to believe you. You grinned.
“Because your favourite chaser is giving you them of course!” the grin etched upon your face somehow widened at the sight of a slight tinge of rose pink dusting the keeper’s cheeks.
This prompted an eyeroll and a sigh escaping his lips. “just because you’re the favourite doesn’t mean I’m wearing a nose” your ears perked at the unexpected response you just got and you leaned in closer to his face.
“So i am the favourite, huh?” the smirk gracing your lips was cocky yet it flattered when he turned to look at you.
His honey coloured eyes drifted from your eyes to your mouth and back to your eyes “you know damn well you’re the favourite”
You felt as though a whole zoo had been let lose in your stomach and the soft smile that then graced your lips was the only tell sign of that. You did know, of course. Everyone did. But it’s not like he’d ever said it out loud and if he had it certainly wasn’t to you or while you were around.
“But you aren’t getting me in that headband and nose”
your head dropped before throwing it back dramatically “Oliver wood you are going to look like a fool if you’re the only one on the team without a costume”
“then i’ll look like a fool, darling” the smug smile off his face never left until he watched you get up and walk out of the great hall to go and find the remainder of your team, leaving behind the costume for him on the table. He smiled softly to no one but himself before returning back to what he was doing.
*****
Lunch time had rolled around and you were sat with Lee and the twins discussing the match you were set to play in less than few hours with wood nowhere to be found. You found yourself pushing your food around your plate with your fork in an effort to think of another way to get oliver to wear the stupid antlers. It was only one match for crying out loud! you were all going to look like idiots anyway so why not join in.
Your train of thought was broken when Lee Jordan had directed the topic of coversation away from the match and onto you and oliver.
“y/n would so make the first move are you kidding? I love wood as much as the next guy but all the quidditch going on in his head has surely been a distraction from his plan about how he’s gonna plant one on y/n” Lee was confident in his answer and Fred agreed
you looked up from the miserable plate of food infront of you to hear george speak
“oliver is as dense as a doorknob when it comes to his feelings for y/n. if they were gonna kiss he would just do it as a spur of the moment kind of thing, no think just do and hope for the best.” he shrugged as he spoke through potatoes while waving his fork about, angelina and katie agreeing by his side. Then they all turned to you.
“We haven’t kissed, if that’s what you are silently asking” you dropped your fork with a clank “but since we’re talking about it, I would be the one to make the first move, no questions asked” the smirk on your face was triumphant and Fred and Lee high five you from over the table.
“Let’s make a bet then” George piped up “five galleons to me if Wood makes the first move or five galleons to Lee if y/n makes the first move”. He scanned your group looking for a sign of protest before shaking on it with lee
“Don’t lose me those five galleons, y/n” Lee complained.
you shifted in your seat and gave him a thumbs up and the best smile you could muster while eating food. All you had to do was think of how you could get wood to wear that darn costume and then give him a big ol’ kiss, no worries at all.
*****
It was go time.
The whole team was ready to fly, charmed headbands and new plays were ready to go but your fearless captain was no where to be seen.
Anyone who knew oliver knew that he lived and breathed all things qudditch and now with such an important game about to start he was no where to be found. nonetheless, the team was lined up with angelina filling in as captain for now because it seemed you didn’t have one at the minute.
this made you unbelievably nervous, so much so that you felt like you were about to pass out and if it wasn’t for the twins and their antics you might’ve been on a one way trip to the hospital wing right now.
“do ya reckon oli is dead? because I mean why else would he be late to a match against Slytherin?” fred deadpanned while george stood behind him snickering to no one in particular.
you had momentarily thought about fred’s statement simply because you really couldn’t think of any other reason why oliver wouldn’t be here 2 minutes before you were set to fly. Your hands were now starting to lightly cramp around your broom and you were beginning to nervous sweat despite winter being right around the corner; internally you were an absolute shitshow. volcanoes were erupting in the depths of your stomach and your heart was hammering against your ribcage and the only thing that was on your mind was where the hell was oli?.
As if the gods above had heard your question one frantic keeper donned in red and gold came barrelling through the change rooms and you swear on your own grave you had never felt so much relief in your life.
“sorry I’m so late! I lost track of the time and was trying to find something important” oliver apologised
walking through your team his hand found your shoulder and he leant into your ear “can’t have all my reindeers losing their way because they don’t have a Rudolph”
looking up at him, he sent you a cheeky wink while putting the nose and antlers on his head before returning to his rightful place in the front and centre.
“You guys know what to do, let’s stomp on some snakes” the confidence oozing from his voice was indescribable. the way he spoke was powerful and reckless yet when he turned to look at you over his shoulder the facade dropped when he began to speak softly “Hope my favourite chaser is ready to win”
a warm smile graced your lips “always, captain”
*****
The sheer determination and house pride coming from the stands was overbearing. the screams, cheers, house war cries and encouragement made the desire to win even stronger than before. You, Angelina and Alicia were flying laps around Slytherin; your teamwork unmatched as you continued to set up and score goals for your friends. Fred and George were on their A-game. their aim had improved tremendously since last season with them becoming more coordinated to make sure you and the girls were able to score all you needed. Oliver was so focused on the opposing team and their chasers that you were certain he was unaware of the close score right now. It was 100-110 with Gryffindor taking the lead. all harry had to do was catch the snitch.
He had spotted it and now was neck and neck with malfoy. they were flying dangerously close to the stands where screaming students were situated. this was going to be the closest game you had had in a while.
Just as Alicia had set up a goal for you to score harry caught the snitch and your whole team hollered at the outcome of the game.
“YES! GET IN HARRY!” George had yelled at the top of his lunch while Fred and Alicia laughed in delight at the sight of George almost falling off his broom.
You flew over to an exhausted looking Angleina and did your best to pull her into a hug mid air
“You were amazing Angie! absolutely brilliant! the hard work payed off!” you praised your close friend and the two of you made your way to the ground where students had begun piling off the stands but there was only one person you wanted to see down there.
The sound of your broom hitting the grass could be heard by the people around you when you caught sight of oliver hopping off of his broom. You ran to him and flung your tired arms around his neck with him instantly returning the favour  as his arms held a tight grip on your waist.
“Oli we did it! everything that you drilled into us payed off, all the early morning training, that staying up into the early hours of the morning, all of it! every single bit!” you exclaimed and pulled away to get the first proper look at him that whole afternoon. His smile was splitting his face in half and for the first time in a while it felt like the two of you were the only ones in the world.
One of his hands moved from your waist and up your back to grip your shoulder from behind before he dipped you and gave you the most passionate kiss you had ever gotten.
it felt like the twins had let a bunch of fireworks loose in your stomach, his neck felt hot under the touch of your calloused hands and his lips melted perfectly with yours. The both of you pulled away for breath, still not breaking eye contact.
“If I get this lucky every time I wear these stupid antlers I might as well glue them to my head” he half heartedly laughed at himself while continuously ignoring everyone around you who had now decided to pay attention.
Lee’s voice rang out over the microphone.
“Y/N! I thought i told you to not lose me those five galleons” he groaned while George grinned in triumph
Oliver, who still had you dipped but was now looking up at lee, looked back down at you “you placed a bet on our kiss?” he quizzed you while an eyebrow raised.
all you could do was laugh and feel your heart swell in your chest
“sorry, love. but i was fairly confident that our first kiss was going to be my doing” you smirked and grabbed his face pulling him in for yet another kiss.
Christmas had certainly come early this year.

“Black, don’t think for a second that I planned this.” Y/N stood with a bottle of firewhiskey in the Gryffindor common room, princess dress hanging loosely off of her shoulders after the few hours of partying they had done this Halloween.
Sirius readjusted the crown on his head and took a swig from his firewhiskey bottle, Y/N using all of her willpower to not look at his exposed neck as his head tilted back. His princely costume was played lowkey their final year, just a crown with a nice dress shirt and clacks, but with his confident attitude that resembled a royal’s, it was impossible to not know what he was for Halloween.  “Again, Y/N? Really, we’ve been playing this game of match up, dress up, whatever you want to call it for three years now, it seems highly unlikely that it’s just a coincidence again.”
“Sirius, you bring up this argument of yours again and again every year, and every time I say the same thing; it is just a coincidence. It’s not like I try to match with you, I actually despise it.” No, you really don’t, a voice whispered in her head, you bloody love it, you little minx.
“Trust me, love, I know.” The grey-eyed boy let out a heavy chuckle that sounded more like a sigh as he averted his eyes to the ground. What was he thinking? “I’ll always remember when you kneed me in the ballsack back in fifth year.”
Fifth Year
Y/N glared across the hall at the group of troublemaking boys in her year laughing hysterically at absolutely nothing. Lily stood to her right doing the exact same, with Marlene and Dorcas admiring them from her left.
“They’re brilliant, Lily, why can’t you just admit that?” Marlene whined. “Y/N, you understand, right?”
Sure, the little group of Marauders, as they liked to call themselves, were clever. It was no secret that they thrived academically and were astoundingly smart with their high marks and amazing discoveries. However, it was also not a secret that they were a bunch of bloody gits, using that charm and wit of theirs to craft pranks that more often than not had her on the receiving end. Lily agreed with Y/N, of course she did, though it was becoming increasingly obvious that the redhead fancied a certain James Potter. Dorcas and Marlene still marveled at the boys, absolutely wooed by their “talent” and “amazing pranks”.
“They’re brilliant in some aspects, Dorcas,” Y/N watched as Peter Pettigrew tripped over his feet and into James Potter, knocking them both over. “It doesn’t change the fact that they’re a ton of lazy sods.” The redhead next to her nodded, still watching Potter, as Y/N tugged on her arm. “Now come on, Lily, I don’t want him to see me, let’s get a cuppa at the Great Hall.”
A devilish smirk appeared on her face, eyes glinting as they gazed towards one of the taller boys. “You mean you don’t want Sirius to see that you two are wearing matching costumes?” Y/N shot her a glare but Lily simply laughed at her friend’s peeved expression. “Don’t be such a ninny.”
“Piss off, Evans.” She growled at her friend. It wasn’t intended that she was matching with the raven-haired boy but Halloween was a fun time to dress up, and the only thing she could find were a pair of plastic fangs to make a vampire costume. It just so happened that Sirius Black thought of the exact same thing, which made her blood boil. Both of them wore blood red capes and black attire under, fake fangs in their mouths, and worst of all, they looked like a couple. Her and stupid, bloody attractive, smart, charming, Sirius Black. Even his lopsided smirk had imprinted its image in her brain and she hated how he infiltrated her thoughts.
Lily finally relented, letting Y/N steer her and their friends towards breakfast right when a hand caught her wrist and spun her into a pair of arms. Grey eyes peered into her own and her heart nearly beat out of her damn chest at the upwards tilt of his lips. “Hey, L/N, that outfit looks pretty familiar.”
Snapping out of her trance, she pushed herself off of Sirius and stomped back to her friends before he stopped her again, by her cape this time. “C’mon, sweetheart, we look good together. We’re bound to happen at some point, L/N, so why don’t we save all the hassle and get together now? I think the matching costumes are a pretty telltale sign, and I know a little space behind the castle where we can get to know each other a little better. What do you say?”
With a little smirk on her lips, Y/N stepped closer to him, hands coming to run down his chest as he gripped her hips with wide eyes. She almost laughed at his surprised expression, rosy lips opened in shock rather than his usual smirk. “I think that,” he leaned forward at her every word so that her chest pressed against his, “I’ll just,” his mouth was millimeters away from hers, hot breath mingling together in the most delicious way, “kick you in the groin, you horny tosser.”
True to her word, she swiftly kneed him in the balls, making a near-dramatic exit with her head held high and cape swishing by her ankles. Sirius keeled over in pain with a pained groan, all the students in the corridor laughing at the normally suave boy who got absolutely schooled.
A wheeze and cough was heard behind him, James and Peter nearly losing breath at how hard they were laughing. “You had that coming, Pads, you played that so dirty and I can’t even-” James lost himself in another bout of laughter as his glasses slipped off his nose.
Remus, who wasn’t laughing as hard for the sake of his friend’s dignity, placed and arm out for Sirius to balance on as he stood up. “Prongs is right, Pads, you came off as a manky prat.”
He longingly look at Y/N’s retreating form, face red from the humiliation of being rejected by the girl he was kind of completely head over heels for. Of course he went after the one girl he couldn’t have.
“Oh, come off it, Moony.”
“Okay, Black, you can’t even deny that you didn’t deserve that. First of all, it was absolutely disgusting, asking to shag right in the morning and in a hallway of all places.” The princess took another sip of her firewhiskey, wincing at the burn of it down her throat. “Second of all, it’s rude and extremely horrible to lead a girl on like that, I mean I’ve liked you since third year and I know that if you pulled that fifth-year shit again on me this year, I’d probably hurt you worse.” Noticing Sirius’ nearly blank stare on her, her neck suddenly felt hot. “What is it? Do I have something on my face, or-”
“You like me?” His hands were stilled, eyes searching hers for a lie. Shit, shit, shit, shit! The one certainty of Sirius never finding out about her feelings was that Y/N would get to keep this bond with him, year after year, ensuring that even if they weren’t together, she’d still have some sort of relationship to him. But now he knew, and there wasn’t anything she could do but play it off as a lie.
“No, no, my tongue just gets much looser when I’ve had some alcohol, and what I meant to say was that I’ve liked being your friend since third year, not that I’ve, you know, had a crush on you since third year. Because that’d make no sense, right? I mean I really don’t like you, in fact I absolutely...”
“Hate me?” Sirius’ firm hands wrapped around her waist, a cute but cocky smirk on his face. “Oh, I’m sure you do, love.”
And when their lips connected, Y/N didn’t object.

Chapter 4: The Team Up
Tumblr media
Cover made on Canva.com
You were great at running. You’d been running from your problems for year, both figuratively and literally. Before however, your problems followed you, now they simply wait on bated breath for your return. What’s the point in running, though, if no one’s chasing you?

I’ll be honest here, I’m not the happiest with this chapter. It definitely could’ve been a lot better, but I wasn’t sure how to get all the story I wanted in a way that I’m satisfied with, so we’ll just roll with it.
. . .
Tenya bounced his foot from it’s balanced perch on his knee, watching the gray ellipses bubble across the side of his phone scree.
(Y/N) (L/N): I’m almost there, cool your jets. I’m not even late!
He chuckled, imagining them saying those words in irritation, arms thrown up into the air. He sent back a quick “Alright, see you in a bit”.
It had been a few weeks since that late-night phone call, and in that time (L/N) and Tenya had become good friends. Their schedules clashed horribly, but Tenya had made a point of moving his lunch break back a half an hour so he could text or call (L/N) during it, and they both tried to go out for breakfast whenever they had a free morning.
The other night when Tenya was on the phone with (L/N) again, they mentioned that they were close to catching a check frauder, and the station was putting together a small team of heroes to capture him.
“We’ve got Red Riot, Suneater, and Creati, but we’d like to get someone else.” (L/N) had said. “Honestly, I think we should add you to the team. We need someone fast.”
“I’d be honored to join you!” Tenya had announced. “Red Riot and Creati were actually my classmates back in high school, so it would be nice to see them again.”
“Oh, cool! I can have someone send your agency a formal request, just to have the paperwork.” Tenya had felt their eye roll in his soul. “Bleh.”
Tenya was sitting awkwardly in his bulky costume in an office at the police station. Yaoyorozu and Kirishima were chatting quietly as Amajiki stood off to the side, avoiding eye contact. Antonov was also there, flipping some records with two other police officers Tenya didn’t know. He checked his phone again.
(Y/N) (L/N): Dude, quite checking your phone, I’m right here
His head snapped to the open door, seeing the person in question walking over, smirk plastered on their face, right beneath their sunglasses.
“Hey, party people,” (L/N) slipped in, closing the door behind them.
“Good of you to join us,” One of the officers remarked icily.
“Cool it, Nakamura, I’m on time.” They dismissed, taking the last free seat.
“Doesn’t matter, we’re all here now.” Antonov interrupted, sensing the tension. “Heroes, thank you for joining us today. With any luck we can be in, out, and done before noon.”
He continued to brief them. The suspect, who they knew as Kin Subete was staying at a motel on the outskirts of the city. The team, led by Antonov and (L/N) was going to go in and storm his room.
“(Y/N), Nakamura, Shugin, and I will go I with Creati.” Antonov stated. “Suneater, Red Riot, and Ingenium, you guys hang outside in case he makes a break for it.”
(L/N) rested their head on their fist, raising an eyebrow. “I think we should have all heroes outside, that way they can surround the building.”
“Ah, come on, it’s not like Subete could escape from all directions.” Nakamura snapped. “We only need eyes on his window and the emergency exits near his room.”
“But not the main exit?”
“He wouldn’t be that stupid-”
“Well, if it were me, I’d waltz right out the front door.” (L/N) said cooly. “You wouldn’t know what I looked like, so I could walk right past you while you’re en route to my room. Then I’d check out and leave as though I have nothing to hide.”
“I’m sure none of us need reminding that they’ve done precisely that to us.” Shugin, winced, and gestured to (L/N), running a hand through her hair.
“Right. We should get someone to keep an eye on the front desk, and we’ll have you four outside, surrounding the building.” Antonov told the heroes.
“I’ll watch the desk.” (L/N) offered. They slipped the sunglasses down their nose a little to gaze at Antonov. “I’ll have no trouble picking him out of a crowd.”
“Agreed. Are there any other thoughts or questions?” Antonov closed his file, placing his reading glasses on his head.
“Someone should keep an eye on (L/N) while they’re at the desk.” Nakamura said, suspicion dripping from his words.
“My guy, do you really think I’m gonna pass up the opportunity to have my very own “Gotcha” moment?” They laughed, seemingly not offended by the insinuation.
“I doubt there’s any cause for concern, but there’ll be a hero right outside the door, anyway.” Shugin pointed out.
“Well, if there are no more baseless accusations, then can we get going?” (L/N) asked, crossing their arms. “I wanna have my lunch break on time.”
. . .
The job was faster than Tenya had anticipated. He hadn’t been positioned outside for more then fifteen minutes before (L/N) emerged from the motel, dragging a middle-age swearing man behind them.
“I was right!” They sang, waving to Tenya. “I watched homeboy here walk right past Tai and the gang. Wasn’t sure at first, but then I got a good look at each other.”
“That’s.... anti climatic.” The armored hero admitted, grabbing the wriggling man so he didn’t bolt. “Wait, how did you know it was him?”
“It’s my quirk.” They said simply, fishing a pair of handcuffs out of their pocket, and snapping them around Subete’s wrists.
Tenya contemplated asking for elaboration as (L/N) radioed Antonov.
“Ugh, I could practically hear Nakamura rolling his eyes!” They remarked gleefully when they got off the call. “Can’t wait to see the look on his face.”
“You two don’t get along too well, do you?”
“Nah, he hates me.” They shrugged nonchalantly. “He’s not the only one, though. He’s just the most obvious about it.”
“Why would-” Tenya cut himself off, feeling a little silly for even having to ask. “It’s about your past, isn’t it?”
“Ring-a-ding-ding.” (L/N) monotoned, their mouth twisting into a frown. “A lot of my coworkers don’t think I deserve to be here, or that I can even be trusted. I don’t fault them for it, I just wish that some people didn’t remind me how much they feel that way every damn day.”
“That is rather unfair,” Tenya remarked, his brows furrowing as he watched Antonov, Nakamura, and Shugin speed walk out of the motel.
“Tell Nakamura that.”
“What happened?” Shugin demanded, breathing heavily.
“Subete walked right past you and tried to check out like I figured.” (L/N) reported. “Even if I didn’t have the power of a super convenient quirk, he seemed a little too twitchy to just be a regular patron.”
“Well isn’t that something? Alright, Nakamura? Get him in the car?” Antonov directed.
“Yeah, yeah.” He muttered, grabbing Subete and carting him off.
“Oh, I forgot to radio the other heroes.” (L/N) suddenly exclaimed. “Y’know? I’ll just run around and grab them.”
Antonov chuckled as they power walked away. “If I didn’t know better, I’d say they’re softening up.”
“What do you mean?” Tenya asked, taking his helmet off.
“(Y/N)’s pretty bright, and they have a sharp memory. Now, it could’ve just slipped their mind in the excitement, but,” The older man smirked a little at the taller hero, his eyes glistening with a spark that Tenya couldn’t quite identify. “something tells me that they may’ve been a little distracted.”
“I’m still not sure I understand what you’re trying to say.”
“Oh, who knows? Personally, I just think they’re happy to have another friend. They don’t seem to have too many of those.”

The Marriage Project (2)
part 2 is already here! fun fact, I’ve actually written like 16 chapters and I probs won’t always be posting weekly but I really wanted to put out part 2 sooooo... yeah. The Tom Holland x reader high school AU continues
Story Masterlist
Warnings: mild language
Word Count: 2365 (shorter than before, I know)
% approximately 1st week of September %
The next week had been relatively uneventful. Mrs. Flynn gave you both an A on your budget for the first week.
She also drew the next weekly condition, which for you was a $300 doctor’s visit of one family member.
“Well that’s stupid. If this were real life, we wouldn’t even need to take our kids to the doctor as PA’s,” Tom argued.
“First off, it’s not real life, and secondly, what if the kid broke a bone? Who’s gonna cast it, genius?”
“Well we probably wouldn’t have to pay,” he grumbled
When Friday afternoon hit, you were almost disappointed to see Tom not in the stands for your game, but remembered that the team had to start all their pregame rituals a couple hours before kickoff.
After crushing the competition, you took a quick shower and put on the shirt every senior was supposed to wear and walked to the field, where some of your friends had already claimed a spot on the bleachers.
It was still a half hour before kickoff, so you talked as they helped put paint streaks on your cheeks and tie ribbons in your hair to show school spirit. You also watched the boys run drills until they were called to the sidelines for the national anthem.
The team captains met for the coin toss, and as Tom and his co captain headed back to the team huddle, Tom spotted you in the crowd and pointed directly at you.
You didn’t know what he was doing so you quickly flipped him off and went back to your conversation.
They ended up winning the game by a field goal, and true to his word, Tom had actually played pretty well, aside from getting sacked towards the end of the game.
You and the girls, not yet wanting to go home, hung out in the parking lot as families left.
“Hey, look. It’s your husband,” Alexis pointed out as Tom and a couple other players came limping down the lot with bags in tow. They were still wearing their football pants but had removed their jerseys, leaving on sleeveless compression shirts.
“Ugh. Don’t remind me. But I will say, his mom already loves me. We’re on a first name basis.”
She gave you a little low-five out of pride.
You couldn’t help but notice Tom pull the necklace out from under his shirt’s collar, the ring still attached.
Did he wear that the whole game?
He spotted you from a few yards away and yelled out,
“Hey hey hey. What did I tell you? Swooning yet?” he held his arms out as if to show he was right.
“Not quite, bub. But I’ll give you that touchdown pass. Don’t forget we have to work on the budget tomorrow!”
“Yeah yeah, see you then, princess.” He waved a hand as he continued on to his car.
Ugh. Princess.
Tom had been calling you that ever since the time freshman year you were the leading princess in a school play.
You had hated the role for many reasons.
For one, the character had no development and was basically dumb and defenseless (aka the exact opposite of you and everything you stood for). On top of that, the costumes were hideous, and what should have been a couple of pretty ballgowns and flowing skirts ended up being completely unflattering in color, shape, and style.
Everyone knew you hated it, and Tom loved to rub that in your face.
Eventually, you decided to retire home for the night since you had had such a taxing day.
%
You rang the Holland’s doorbell again, and this time it was opened by Tom’s youngest brother, Paddy. He was in the 5th grade, so you didn’t know him well.
A perfect opportunity to make a good impression.
“Hey there, Paddy. Is Tom around? We’re supposed to work on our project today.”
“I’m not sure where he is, but I’m sure I can find him. Come on in.”
“Oh thank you. So polite.”
He sheepishly looked down as his face reddened.
“I’ll be right back.”
He ran to the stairs and disappeared up them. A few minutes later an exhausted looking Tom appeared at the top of the stairs next to his brother.
“Come on up, I need to take a piss before we get started.” he called down, ever the charmer. He rubbed his eyes. He was only wearing a pair of sweats.
You followed his word and sat down on his bedroom floor, pulling up the documents on your computer as you waited. He came back wearing a shirt, a mug of coffee in hand.
“Want some? I made it fresh. I just woke up if you couldn’t tell.”
“No thanks. I don’t drink coffee, I find it disgusting. Caffeine addiction’s bad for you anyways.”
He looked down at the drink and back at you.
“Well we can’t all be perfect little princesses.”
You wanted to slap him, but just fired back with an insult and got to work. There wasn’t as much to do today other than reallocate the funds for the appointment and make up a story of what could have happened.
You both laid on your stomachs looking at the screen. As you typed, you heard heavy breathing and glanced over to see Tom had fallen back asleep.
Wow. He almost looks nice when he’s sleeping. What a disappointment.
You finished your paragraph and shook him awake.
“Ugh. sorry. I told you I’m a mess after game days.”
He went to push up to a sitting position when he winced, inhaling sharply. He put his head back on the ground.
“Woah there. Are you okay?”
“Yeah, just pulled a muscle in my back last night. I think it’s from that sack.”
“Do you need me to get you something? LIke icy hot or some advil? I carry both at all times.”
“Icy hot would be perfect. I already took some painkillers.”
You shifted up and grabbed your backpack, pulling out the tube. You tossed it next to him to use.
“I hate to ask this, because you’re you, but could you put it on for me? I don’t think I can reach.”
You hesitated, but agreed since you knew what it felt like to be in pain like that.
“Okay. Give me a general idea of where it is and I’ll poke around to find it.”
“Just under my shoulder blades on the right.”
He pulled up his shirt and you went to touch his back lightly. He flinched when your fingers graced his skin.
“Oh yeah, my hands are cold by the way.”
“No shit.”
You put your hand back, pressing lightly until he winced again, then you put a small amount of the ointment on your hand, massaging it in.
You rhythmically rubbed your hand over the area in little circles, trying to loosen the tight muscle with your palm. You didn’t think much about it until he let out a moan, and you pulled your hand back like he was on fire.
“Oh my God I’m so sorry. It just felt so good on that spot and it just slipped out-”
“Let’s just agree to never mention this again. I’m gonna go wash my hands. And hopefully my brain while I’m at it. Where’s your bathroom?”
“Just across the hall. Can’t miss it.”
A little bit later and you were finally done for the day, so you helped Tom up and again packed your things.
“Sorry again about earlier. Thanks, though. It really helped.”
“Like I said, we don’t need to talk about it. Just never make that sound again, please. See you Monday.”
And with that you were out the door.
%
Another week, and Mrs. Flynn gave you another A and a budget condition.
Both you and Tom again won at your respective sporting events, and you again went to Tom’s.
Throughout the week, you and Tom had been on your usual game, firing shots. But at home it was like he was a different person. Sure you still jabbed at each other occasionally, but there was a more friendly aspect to it this week.
You were sitting on the floor when you felt a familiar pain in your lower abdomen.
You ignored it for a minute, but then it hit twice as strong. Immediately you shot up.
“I'm going to the bathroom,” you stated, speaking quickly.
“Uh. Okay?”
You rushed in and as you sat down pulled up your period tracker app.
You weren’t supposed to start for 4 more days.
Well that’s a lie you thought as you caught a streak of red upon wiping.
You dug through the under-sink cabinet, hoping and praying to find something, anything you could use. When that came up dry, you just stuffed up some toilet paper and resigned to getting a tampon from your backpack.
A sense of panic filled your chest, however, when you realized the little bag you kept with extra supplies was nowhere to be found. That’s when you remembered that you had taken it out to replenish and apparently never put it back.
“Oh no. Oh no no no!”
There wasn’t even a single liner at the bottom of the bag.
“What’s got you in a tiff, princess? Don’t we have everything we need already?”
You sighed. You weren’t one to announce when you were on your period, since guys liked to believe that all women become bitches when they bleed. But you were desperate.
“Look, I know you’re gonna make fun of me, but I just started my period and don’t have anything to deal with it and I don’t know what to do.”
“Can’t you just hold it?”
“Ha ha good one. Seriously though I don’t know what I’m gonna do. If I don’t figure out something fast, I’ll bleed through my pants.”
Tom looked at you confused.
“Wait a second,” you started. “You weren’t serious right then, right? Like you do know it’s something women can’t control?”
“WHAT?” he exclaimed. “You can’t?”
“You know, for someone who calls himself so smart you sure are a dumbass. How do you know nothing about periods? You play football, haven’t you had a girlfriend before?”
He got quiet.
“No. I’m too busy competing with you that when I do get free time, everyone gets really intimidated by you.”
“Oh... “ you didn’t know what to say, but then a cramp hit you like a ton of bricks and you doubled over. “Ugh. could you just go get your mom? I need to go back to the bathroom and try not to throw up.”
Eventually, Nikki came and left some midol, tampons, and a heating pad for you and you were able to go back to Tom’s room, finding him leaning against his bed. He sat up straight when you walked in.
“Are- are you okay? You seemed to be in a lot of pain earlier.”
You plugged in the heating pad and turned it on, laying down on your back so you could drape it across your stomach. The midol hadn’t yet kicked in.
“Yeah, I’m good. It was early this month and I just wasn’t prepared,” you said staring at the ceiling, but turned your head to look at him.
“Sorry if what I said was insensitive. I just figured you knew more about it than the average guy and I was so panicked that I wasn’t thinking straight. I’ve never had a boyfriend either. Same situation.”
“Hah, nerd.”
You rolled your eyes and threw a nearby pillow at him.
“Like you have room to talk. Now let’s just finish this so I can go home and take a nap.”
%
When you got to home ec Monday, you hadn’t spoken to Tom since leaving his house Saturday. Frankly, you were embarrassed about the situation still and figured he felt awkward too.
Then, of course, you learned that Mrs. Flynn had decided to throw the class a curveball to tie the marriage project into regular class assignments.
For a unit on sewing, she was making each couple work together to make a small “marriage quilt” approximately the size of a baby blanket. Partners would have to work together to choose the colors, make a design, and sew it together within 2 weeks in class.
So there you were, sitting in the back corner of the room discussing design options and drawing up a pattern with Tom.
Upon realizing you both loved blue, you decided to make a blue based quilt. There would be little teal and pink accents as well in a couple of the fabrics you chose.
You sat in silence as you both cut small squares of fabric and batting. Other groups were talking, but things still felt heavy.
“Hey, uh. About Saturday…” Tom began quietly from the right of you.
“Please don’t bring it up. Everything turned out fine so let’s just keep it that way. I don’t need you to embarrass me more.”
“No, it’s not that. I just… what you said got me thinking. I know about all kinds of stuff and I’d like to go into medicine one day, but I know nothing about women’s health. So, I spent a good portion of yesterday researching and honestly, I had no idea how much you all go through. We may hate each other, but I respect you a lot more than before.”
“Oh. Wow. You know, I’m sure you read about it yesterday, but it’s super different for everyone. I wouldn’t even consider mine nearly as bad to some peoples’. But that’s really nice of you. And just because we hate each other doesn’t mean I won’t offer to let you ask me questions whenever. Education is way more important than any rivalry.”
He smiled slightly and looked down at his desk, then back up, putting out his left fist.
“Is a fist bump a good enough agreement to let each other ask any kinds of questions like that, no malice intended?” he asked.
You smiled back and hit your right fist to his left one. Eventually you went back to your normal arguing, but you couldn’t stop replaying the scene in your head.
%
A/N: thanks for reading guys! I’m so so busy with school right now that it’s going to be hard to release chapters weekly but I am trying to keep a somewhat regular upload schedule! I’ve written about 16 chapters so I have a lot of content to share already and there’s still more before I finish. As always, I can’t reply to post replies but my messages and asks are always open!

Mine (marijon)
Hi guy! So I was painting today and the song Mine by Taylor Swift came on and I thought it would make a cute marijon story.(Because I love this pair and there is not enough of them) Now I have never written a song fic before, but I tried my best. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy! Peace!
Marinette had finally done it. After four, long years, she had finally graduated high school. For, four years, Lila had continued her reign over the school. She had made good on her threat. No one dared to befriend Marinette, not if they valued their own social lives. Her ‘friends’ from middle school had turned into snakes or just plain abandoned her. She hadn’t hesitated packing her belongings. She didn’t cry when she left Paris a week later. She ignored the fact that her parents hadn’t even said goodbye. Pretending she didn’t see the pitying gazes from the miracle box. She was going to America to study. She didn’t need her family. She didn’t need her ‘friends’.
You were in college, working part-time, waiting tables Left a small town, never looked back I was a flight risk, with a fear of fallin' Wondering why we bother with love, if it never lasts
Meeting Jon had been an accident. A real, hundred percent accident that wasn’t Marinette’s fault, this time. It was still a month until classes started and Marinette had a rare day off from her part-time job as a florist. She had been exploring the old shopping district of the city when it had started to rain. She found this little café, tucked away between a book and an antique store, to duck into to wait out the storm.
The chattering of the patrons seemed to enhance the establish charm the café possessed. The rain beating against the windows, the warm smell of coffee and food, and the gentle hum of conversation, brought a sense of calm Marinette hadn’t felt in a while. She had pulled out her sketch book and just drew. Her designs became warm. Full of soft lines and simple, yet elegant personalities.
The scrapping of chairs brought Marinette out of her sketching. She glance up just in time to see one of the costumers, who hadn’t bothered to look around, abruptly get up and turn into one of the waiters. Marinette had just enough time to shove her sketch book to safety as the tray that was being delivered landed on her. The first thing she notice was that it was soup. Hot soup!
“Oh my gosh! Miss, are yo . .” someone, a guy from the sound of the voice started to asked, but the rest of his question halted as Marinette torn off her shirt in a burst of inhuman speed in an attempt to prevent herself from received worse burns.
It was only after she had thrown her shirt across the café did Marinette did her mind catch up with what she had done. She was standing in the middle of a small, crowded café, with every eye trained on her, shirtless! Petrified, she looked up to meet the bright red face of the waiter as he stared right back at her, trying to avoid looking too far down. The guy was an easy 6’, and in comparison to Marinette’s 5’ 2’ frame, it was impossible. It took five, long seconds for Marinette’s brain to reboot. Snatching her sketch book, she clutched it to her chest in a futile attempt to preserve her modesty. The movement seemed to snap the waiter out of his shock. Jerking his bright blue eyes away from her, he undid his waist apron, giving it to her while he guided Mainette into the back.
“I am so sorry! I didn’t see the guy get up but I should have been paying more attention or I should’ve at least made the tray fall another way and your not hurt are you please tell me you didn’t get burned too badly, I can call an ambulance if you want. I’m such an idiot. I’m so fired. I’m so so so sorry.” He ramble in a panic as he rummaged through a pack, presumably looking for something for her to wear.
“Hey. Hey! It’s ok. It was an accident. If it’s anyone’s fault, it’s the guy that bumped into you. You know, I’m just gonna blame it on him. And I’m fine. I got the shirt off before the it could do any damage. The only thing that’s hurting is my pride.” She assured the boy, giving him an encouraging smile as he handed her a shirt. Slipping it on with a word of thanks, she found it, unsurprising, large on her.
“I’m sorry it’s big. It’s all I have.” Blue eye’s said sheepishly, as if he should’ve had a shirt to fit her in his bag. Marinette couldn’t help the giggle that came. This boy reminded her so much of her younger self.
“Hey, it ok. And don’t feel bad. Losing a shirt in public is not the worse or most embarrassing to happen to me.”
The boy still didn’t look convinced or any less guilty. If anything, his face grew even more red at the reminder of the accident.
“Listen, if you really feel that bad, you can make it up to me by showing me around Metropolis. I’m still trying to figure it out.”
“Yeah. I . . . I can do that.” He said, eyes lighting up at the prospect. “I’m Jon by the way.” He said as one of the brightest smiles light up his face.
“Marinette.”
I say, "Can you believe it?" As we're lyin' on the couch The moment, I can see it Yes, yes, I can see it now
“Hey Jon?”
“Hmm?”
“Why do you hang out with me?”
It had been two months since the two of them had met, and Marinette had felt more safe and . . . loved then she had in the last four years. Jon was with her more often then not. For the first few weeks, Marinette had been a little on edge. She hadn’t had much human contact for years, and what she did was all different forms of bullying. But as time wore on, she began to anticipate when she would meet up with him. Most of their free time was spent wandering the city, with Jon showing Marinette all his favorite spots to visit and they surprising found some places he had never been. Other times, he would drop by her work to talk and buy some flowers for his mother. Marinette had eventually talked him into buying a plant for his apartment after she found out how empty it was. According to Jon, it was still thriving. Other times, she would bug him at the café, were she had quick become known by name. They had become close, and that scared her.
“What kinda question is that?”
“It’s a good question. I mean, your amazing and fun to be around and so open that I can only imagine that you would have a ton of friends.  I mean, why spend so much time with me?”
Jon didn’t answer right away. He kept his gaze fixed on the night sky above them, seemingly so absorbed in the stars that managed to peak through the city skyline that it appeared he didn’t hear her. But Marinette knew him well enough to know when he was thinking. Pulling the blanket closer, she snuggled deeper into the burrow they had made on her roof for star gazing. It was a close to ten minutes before he answered
“Your different. Don’t get me wrong, I love my family and other friends, but when I’m with them, they expect me to be a certain way. I have a lot, and I mean a lot to live up to. Both my parents have done so much and I constantly feel this presser to live up to them. And I know I want to. I want to make a difference like they have. I want to help people like they did, and still do.” Jon said, never taking his eyes off the night sky, but Mairnette couldn’t help turning her head to look at her friend. As he spoke, Marinette could understand, she had been in a similar situation not long ago.
“But when I’m with you, it’s as if none of that matters. You’re not expecting me to be like my mom or my dad. I can make mistakes with you and you’re not gonna judge. You’re not gonna think less of me. Honestly, I feel safe with you.” He said, turning to look at her.
Marinette’s heart skipped a beat. She had always known Jon was handsome, but somehow the half-lighting they had made it clear just how much he was. The lighting accented his jawline, causing his babyish face to take on a more mature tone. His blue eyes, which were always behind glasses, where for once free and bare to the world. While they had always been so bright, they had adapted a darker, more alluring blue.
“Well,” Marinette said, clearing her throat slightly. “you have seen me shirtless, so . . .”
“Can you not bring that up, please.” He groaned, throwing his back as he groaned.
“Oh, come on, it’s funny!” Marinette exclaimed, laughter bubbling over in a joyous peel at the sight of his embarrassment.
“No, it’s not! My co-workers still tease me about it.”
“Think about this way, Jon. If that never happened, we never would have met.”
“Well when you put it that way.” Jon sassed, causing Marinette’s laughter to grow as his chuckles joined in.
“Jon,” Marinette said when she regained her breath, “. . . I’m glad you’re my friend.”
“So am I.”
Do you remember, we were sittin', there by the water? You put your arm around me for the first time You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter You are the best thing, that's ever been mine
If Marinette had to tell someone when things started to change between her and Jon, she would always say it was that night on the roof. But it wasn’t until early November that officially changed. It was the weekend before Thanksgiving and the two of them where by Metropolis Bay enjoying one of the last few nice days before winter came. Marinette was going on about one of the customers at the flower shop.
“They wanted an original Thanksgiving center piece. And I was trying to tell her the owner was out and any special orders have to go through her. But she just kept insisting that I could do it. And I was trying to explain to her that one: I cannot do special order, if it’s in the catalogue, I can to it. But if not, I can’t. The owner wants make sure make sure of the quality. And second: Even if I was allowed, I couldn’t because I know next to nothing about Thanksgiving because we don’t celebrate it in France.”
She hadn’t noticed how quiet Jon was, usually he was just as talkative as she was if not more. But today he was very distracted.
“And then . . .”
“Marinettedoyouwanttocometomygrandparentsfarmforthanksgiving!”
“ . . .What?”
“Marinette, do you want to come to my grandparent’s farm for Thanksgiving?” Jon asked again. “Thing is, um, Grandma made a rule that we have to bring any potential girlfriends back for a holiday and . . .”
“. . .  girlfriend?”
“Yeah, um, Marinette. Do, no. This isn’t how I planned it.” Jon stuttered, his face almost a red as when they first met. “Ok. I like you, Marinette. Like, a lot. I honestly have never met anyone like you. Your funny, sarcastic but you don’t over do it, kind , creative, and I, I thought someone like you couldn’t exist And what I’m trying to say is, will you go out with me?”
Marinette had never seen Jon this distraught. His hands seemed to have a mind of their own, constantly running through his hair until it looked he had been flying. He kept shifting his weight that it almost looked like he was bouncing. For her part, Marinette’s mind decided to take a vacation. Jon, her first friend in over four years, like her. Liked her to the point where he was inviting her to join him on a family holiday. He was inviting her to meet his family. As a potential girlfriend.
“Jon, I . . .”
“It’s fine it you don’t feel the same way. I . . .” he interrupted her, giving her a way out.
“Jon. Jon, it’s not that. I. . . I just. . . have never . . .  been in a relationship. And I don’t know how they work and I don’t know if I’ll be good at it.” She said, cutting him off. She couldn’t look at him. Not now. She hadn’t told a boy that she liked him since the disaster with Adrien.
“. . . Is that a yes?”
“Ye. . .” Marinette started to say, but was never able to finish as Jon pulled her into one of the most bone crushing and heartfelt hugs that she ever had. For a moment, she was too stunned to respond. It didn’t help that her brain had completely gone to mush. Once what had happened became clear, she returned Jon’s hug with just as much strength. And for the first time in a long time, Marinette felt like everything was going to be ok.
Flash forward, and we're takin' on the world together And there's a drawer of my things at your place You learn my secrets and you figure out why I'm guarded You say we'll never make my parents' mistakes
And we got bills to pay We got nothin' figured out When it was hard to take Yes, yes This is what I thought about
Marinette had always meant to tell Jon what happened with her life in Paris, why she had to leave. But she never thought it would happen like this. Never because of a nightmare.
Laughter.  Hate filled messages. Adults yelling at her in anger. Pain. The feeling of skin burning in an inferno. Buildings crushing her. The feeling and sounds of bone shattering.  Acid green eyes snaring as claws tore through her stomach.  Someone, someone was grabbing her, shaking her. Her earrings, she couldn’t let them get her earrings. She couldn’t use her arms! He had her arms! Lashing out, she tried kicking him off her, screaming at him. She couldn’t, she couldn’t let him take the earrings.
“. . .te.”
She had to get way.
“. . .ette.”
She couldn’t breath!
“ZHAO!”
That name woke her up. Only one person called her that. Snapped her out of her nightmare. No, her memories. Gasping for air, her eyes darted around the dark room. She knew this room. It was their room. Her and Jon’s. She was safe. She was safe. Why couldn’t she breath?
“Zhao, Zhao. Hey, hey , hey. It’s ok. It’s ok. Your safe. It was just a nightmare. You’re alright, Zhao. You’re alright. I’m here.” Jon’s voice drew her attention back to the person hold her, cradling her face as he gently brushed a hand through her hair. “That’s it. That’s it. Zhao, I need you to breath with me. Can you do that? Breath in. Hold it. And out. That’s good. You’re doing good. It was just a nightmare. Just a dream.”
Marinette knew he was trying to calm her. She knew that. That’s just who he was. But it wasn’t a dream. It was really. She couldn’t keep it locked up anymore. With a strangled cry, she flung herself at her boyfriend, clinging to him. Everything she had been bottling up for the past seven years just burst. She told him everything she had gone through in Paris, starting from when she became Ladybug until she left. All the pain, the doubt, the fear, the frustration came out. Marinette didn’t notice the kwami’s coming out of their box. She didn’t register their attempts to comfort her. The only thing she knew was that Jon was still holding her, rocking her slowly as he pet her hair, listening to her. Marinette didn’t know how Jon’s eyes started to glow in anger, how he curled around her protectively when she finally fell asleep. She didn’t hear his whispered promise to make those who hurt her pay. All she knew was that she was safe.
Do you remember, we were sittin' there, by the water? You put your arm around me, for the first time You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter You are the best thing, that's ever been mine
Do you remember all the city lights on the water? You saw me start to believe, for the first time You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter You are the best thing, that's ever been mine
It had was their third anniversary, and they were walking along shoreline. The sun had set hours ago. It was actually close to midnight. The air was crisp, taking on more a winter chill then a fall one. Metropolis Bay was quiet, the lights from the city created a picturesque scene, causing the waters sparkle like diamonds.
Neither were talking. They just walked, hand in hand, simply enjoy the night. Neither had projects, patrols, or meeting to worry about. Today was just for them.
Marinette was happy. She really, truly was. She remembered the morning following her breakdown, she had been so scared that Jon would leave her. That he would think she was too damaged. He had truly surprised her when he had asked to meet the kwamis. How he made sure to have their favorite foods always stocked. Though he had put a limit on Plagga’s cheese intake. The god of destruction learned very fast that if he ate his supplies before the end of the month, he would have to wait until the next month to get more camembert.  The kwamis respected him, and for that, Marinette couldn’t be happier. She loved him, and she was thankful her family did as well.
A tug on her hand brought Marinette back to the present. Turning, she found Jon on one knee. Pulling a box from his coat pocket. He wasn’t. There was no way he was . . .
“Marinette, ever since I met you, I knew you were different. Any other person would have never spoken to me again after what I did. But you did. You put up with me. You let me be myself around you. You, you helped me find who I was. You let me into your life, after so many others had left you. You threw my world of kilter. And I wouldn’t change it for the world. You give me a reason to fight, a reason to show others mercy. You’re the sun in my life, and without you I am half the man I’m suppose to be. I love you. So Marinette Dupain-Cheng, will you give me the honour of allowing me to walk by your side? Will you marry me?”
Through his whole speech, Marinette had tears pouring down her face. The more he said the harder her tears fell. By the time he reached the end, there was no way she could speak. All she could manage was a squeak as she nodded her consent. The sheer joy she felt when he slipped the ring on her left hand was almost too much. But her heart truly sung when he kissed her, slow and deep. Brimming with love. She was home.
And I remember that fight, two-thirty a.m. 'Cause everything was slipping right out of our hands I ran out, crying, and you followed me out into the street
Braced myself for the goodbye, 'Cause that's all I've ever known Then, you took me by surprise You said, "I'll never leave you alone"
She ran through the streets, tears threatening to fall, blurring her vision. She wouldn’t cry. She wouldn’t cry. He was going to hate her now. She had ruined everything.
‘That’s right viewer. According to a reliable and trustworthy source, the one and only amateur ‘designer’, Marinette Dupain-Cheng, who is known as the head designer for Jagged Stone, only got her position by sleeping with the artist. According to the source, this arrangement has been going on since the ‘designer’ was 13. She was the one to offer her ‘services’ as long as she was allowed to ‘design’ for the rock star. The real credit for the designs worn by the legendary rock star goes to one Lila Rossi. When asked why she hadn’t come forward sooner, this was her answer.
“Honestly I was scared to. I mean, Marinette had her claws into Jagged so deep that if I spoke up, no one would believe me. After all, who would believe a 14 year old girl over a music legend. But I just couldn’t keep quiet any longer. As a designer, I couldn’t let my work be stolen.”
Well, there you have it viewers. Looks like the ‘clean cut designer’ is really a dirty worker.’
The argument that followed was painful. Jon hadn’t said anything for the first five minutes after reading the article that popular blogger, Alya Cesaire, had published a little over an hour ago. The sheer amounts of reads was sickening. Marinette hadn’t even bothered to look at the comments, she couldn’t stand to think what was written. Marinette had panicked and was trying to convince Jon that what was written wasn’t true. The only relationship between her and Jagged was familiar at most. The longer Jon was silent, the more panicked and scared Marinette become.
“Why are you like this?”
The question hit Marinette like a truck. He . . . he thought she was lying? No. He couldn’t. She had told him about Lila. He knew she was a liar. Right?
“She’s lying, Jon. You have to believe me.”
“That doesn’t answer my question.”
“I’m trying to . . .” Marinette started to say, trying to defend herself, but Jon’s voice cut her off.
“Why are you always defending yourself?” He yelled, and Marinette swore she saw his eyes flash red. He . . . he didn’t believe her. He believed the liar.
His words had set something off in her and Marinette did the one thing that gut told her. She ran. Bolted from the house. She couldn’t stay only to have Jon spout accusations at her. She couldn’t see the one person she felt safe with leave her. She didn’t know it was raining, she hadn’t even put on shoes. She just ran. She had no idea where she was going as her bare feet pounded on the pavement. Her foot caught on something, a sharp pain jerking on the top of her foot as her legs gave way. Bracing herself for the fall, she felt arms wrap around her. Arms she knew all too well. She couldn’t do this. She couldn’t handle it if he left her too.
You said, "I remember how we felt, sitting by the water. And every time I look at you, it's like the first time. I fell in love with a careless man's careful daughter. She is the best thing that's ever been mine."
“I am never leaving you, Zhao. Do you hear me? I am never leaving you! You never needed to tell me that trash wasn’t true. Anyone with eyes could see that. I’m sorry I yelled at you. I am so sorry.  I know it set you off and I promised myself I would never cause that. And I did and I’m sorry.  I know I scared you. I was just so angry. I’m so sorry. I love you, and nothing. Nothing is gonna change that.” Jon declared, crushing his fiancée to him. He wasn’t going to let even the tiniest doubt tell his zhao that he didn’t mean it.
He felt her stiffen only for a second before she become completely undone. The heart wrenching sobs cut the young, half kryptonian in ways that him see red. Death was too good for the scum that did this to his zhao. No. He was going to make sure there was no way for any of them to recover, specifically that Italian and ‘journalist.’ He would show her what a real journalist could do. But right now, he had his fiancée to care for. Jon was determined to make sure Marinette felt more loved then she had before. He would tear her ex-friends apart later. He also need to call his parents.
The next morning saw the release of three different articles tearing apart both so called ‘article’ about Marinette and all those who where in it. Which was, interestingly, all of her old classmates. All three articles were brutal. One Kent was deadly enough, making recovery nearly impossible. Two Kent’s? Recovery would be impossible in their lifetime. With all three, there would be no hope for their family lines. The world learned one thing that day: Never make Jonathan Kent angry.
You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter You are the best thing, that's ever been mine
Do you believe it? We're gonna make it now And I can see it
While in France, the old class was receiving the backlash of media, with two of them receiving lawsuits like candy, Clark was trying to prevent most of the JL from ‘talking’ to the ex-class themselves. After all, he had dibs as future father-in-law.
And in an apartment in the old district of Metropolis, a couple slept in peace. The boy curled protectively around his small fiancée, shielding her from the world. After all, she was his.

Tim’s Secret Weapon Pt.7
I’ve been slightly obsessed with @ozmav ‘s Damian Wayne/Marinette Dupain-Cheng pairing as of late, and just saw a post that has inspired me more than anything else has in months, so I felt the need to write it
Summary- Tim has always seen the numbers floating above people’s heads, been able to perceive their threat levels with a single glance. After being a hero for so long he thought he was desensitized to seeing high numbers above people’s heads until Damian brings a new friend home.
Part 1 Part 6 Part 7 (HERE) Part 8
This is out earlier than expected because my procrastination sucks ass
____________________________________________
The battle was fascinating to watch, to say the least. The team worked together like a well-oiled machine, making their acrobatic plan flawlessly after Marinette called for her ‘Lucky Charm’ and used the white paint she received along with Ryoko’s water powers to break the connection The Queen of Hearts had with her guards. This gave Abeille the chance to sneak in dive in and freeze her with her venom sting as Chat grabbed her bracelet and turned it to dust.  Viperion seemed to not have an outright offensive move associated with him, but his time travel ability seemed infallible as he effortlessly redirected his teammates around attacks yet to come.
The Bats were left watching with respect as Ladybug caught the dark purple butterfly in her yoyo. From the second she had left them on the roof to when she tossed the paint can in the air, allowing her magic to fix all the damage done by the fight, only fifteen minutes had passed.
The five heroes grinned at each other, fist-bumping with a chorus of “Pound it!” before Chat and Abeille went up to the woman in her early 30s that had been the victim of the fight, and the other three turned to take off, Ladybug making a clear path back to the hotel, with the Bats on her heels.
They passed through the window they had left not long before just in time for Ladybug to flash bright pink once more. Tim flinched slightly as her number reappeared and slowly fell back to her normal 15. Alfred looked up from the chair where he was reading.
“Welcome back, Shall I call for refreshments?” He asked, placing the book down.
“Yes please,” Dick answered, “I feel like we’re going to be here for a while.
“Of course,” He hummed standing up to go to the phone, “Aw and Miss. Marinette, what food does your Kwami favor?”
The young girl jumped, eyes wide, “What!”
“Your Kwami, I saw the battle on the news, and assumed your Kwami will be famished after that much magic being used.”
“I don’t-”
A small red fairy-like creature flew out from Marinette’s jacket.
“It’s okay, Marinette,” The creature reassured before turning to the men in the room, “Hello I’m Tikki! I’m glad to finally meet all of you.”
Alfred’s face became unbelievably soft as he held out his index finger to the small creature, “Hello Madam Tikki, it’s lovely to meet you as well. What can I get for you?”
She giggled as she shook the offered finger, “No need to be so formal with me, Alfred, but I’m partial to cookies if you don’t mind.”
“Not at all, Tikki,” He said before striding over to the room’s phone, raising an eye at the still costumed Bats, “I would suggest getting dressed in something more appropriate before room service arrives gentlemen.”
“You dropped her title,” Jason countered instead of moving to change, “You never drop titles when asked!”
Alfred let out an amused huff, “Arguing with Kwamis over respect is a futile endeavor. Now do not make me tell you again. This is a conversation best suited for the Waynes, not the Bats.”
The Bats ducked into one of the adjoining bedrooms, as Marinette just blinked in surprise at the exchange.
“You’ve had experience with the miraculous before?” She asked as he hung up the phone, Tikki settling in her hair.
“I do,” He confirmed, “For several years I was a hero known as Emrys with the help of a very good friend named Duusu.”
Tikki gasped, “You’re a peachick.”
Alfred’s eyes misted slightly, “Yes, and I must admit I never thought I would be able to converse with another Kwami after losing the peacock brooch. I was devastated to hear that the butterfly had fallen into the wrong hands,”
Marinette was biting her lip as the Bats reentered the room, now in their civilian clothing.
Damian raised an eyebrow, “Is everything okay, Angel?”
“I just…” She looked at all of them, “This is a lot, how did we get here?”
The room glanced at Tim as he sighed and stepped forward and began his explanation once more.
Marinette took the information on how his powers worked really well, humming at certain parts as she looked deep in thought. Tikki was looking at him strangely, by the time that he had finished.
“You’ve been able to do this since you were born?” She questioned lightly, nibbling on one of the cookies that had arrived during his explanation.
He gave a nod, “As far as I’m aware. Why?”
The Kwami shook her head, “Just making sure.”
“Well that’s cryptic,” Jason drawled from where he was laying on the floor.
Marinette giggled, “Welcome to Kwamis, they give the most helpful cryptic insight you could ask for.”
Tikki stuck her tongue out at her user before both broke down into giggles.
Tim looked between them before finally asking, “Do you know the other Paris’ heroes secret identities?”
Marinette cocked her head, sitting up slightly from where she was snuggled under Damian’s arm, “All but Chat Noir’s, as when I took over the Guardian position I was the one that had to pick those that would receive the Miraculous. I’m guessing your powers gave them away?”
He gave a sheepish shrug, “It’s kinda hard to see a 12, 13, 14, or 15 over someone’s head and not put together their identities. Viperion is the only one I don’t know because I didn’t see him out of his mask.”
Dick raised a brow from his upside-down seat on the couch, “Was that why you were so weird at the school?”
“There were six people with 12s or higher,” He snapped, “And that creepy chick that called Damian ‘Dami-Bear’ was a 9.”
Jason gave a low whistle, “Damn, that’s a lot.”
Marinette looked surprised, “Six? But there’s only five miraculous out permanently on our side…”
“Yeah about that,” Tim said, “I’ve seen other users online, have Max or Kim from your class ever held a miraculous?”
“How did…”
“It’s rare to see people with the exact same shade of a color, even less so when they have the same number,” He explained, knowing his family was hanging onto his every word, “And yet Kim and Max both had a pure white 12, the exact same pure white 12 as Alfred. I think the miraculous might permanently affect the user’s danger level.”
“You only asked about Kim and Max,” Marinette put in, “But Alya and Nino also held miraculous before, what were their numbers.”
“Alya was the girl that started recording right? And who was Nino.”
“Yeah, and Nino was the boy with the bright blue headphones around his neck, red cap, and glasses.”
“She had an obnoxious orange 5, and He had a mossy green 4.”
“Why wouldn’t they have 12s then…”
Tikki was the one to answer, “Alya and Nino weren’t true holders, but Max and Kim are both true holders so I imagine that would affect Tim’s powers.”
All eyes fell on the small goddess.
“True holder?” Marinette asked.
She gave a small nod, “The Kwamis are much older than the human race and the miraculous, but when we began using humans to regulate our powers each Kwami blessed a handful of souls. As they go through the reincarnation cycle we can find our true users, who will always be more intuned with our powers than anyone else that could use our miraculous and our true users usually showcase abilities that go along with the concept the Kwami represents. After a true holder transforms for the first time Kwami’s can feel them, and recognize them as one of the blessed souls, though we don’t know what Kwami blessed their souls on that feeling alone.”
“So the 12s  saw were true users that don’t have their miraculous,” Tim summed up.
“Most likely,” Tikki confirmed, “The others would be the ones that still hold their miraculous.”
The conversation goes on for a while as Marinette asks questions of Tim and he asks them right back. The rest of the family remaining silent as they soak in the information, all making mental notes on where to go next.
Bruce finally claps his hands startling the pair out of the intense debate they had gotten over whether his ability could be used to detect a potential Akuma victim before an Akuma got to them or not as the sunset.
“As insightful this discussion is,” He comments, “I believe it is time that we contact the rest of the League and make a plan on how to out Hawkmoth.”
“We should change and head for WE,” Damian suggested, “No one would be on the executive floor at this time so we can do a conference call without risk of being disturbed.”
When Bruce gave a nod all the Bats rose and headed to the bedroom.
“Before we call the league,” Marinette said quietly making them pause, “I need to do two things.”
Bruce nodded, waiting for her to continue, her city, her rules.
“Firstly I want to call my team, they should be there when we contact the league,” She said, turning towards Tim, “I would also like to inform them that you know who most of them are, and how you figured it out since it’s their secrets.”
“I’m willing to share with them,” He told her, “It’s only fair that they know the facts before we form.”
“Thank you,” She breathed.
“Now what else did you want to do?” Jason asked.
“Alfred,” She turned to the butler, “There’s something you should know about who we’re fighting.”
“Nooroo and his user?” He questioned with a raised brow.
She shook her head, “No, Hawkmoth may have been there from the start but a little less than a year into the fight another miraculous user joined him. Mayura and…  her Sentimonsters.”
His strangled gasp sent a stab of pain through all the hearts in the room, “Not Duusu…”
She gave a grim nod, “Mayura is the current holder of the peacock miraculous. Though at first, her appearances were few and far between due to the brooch being damaged, they learned how to repair the damage shortly after I became Guardian allowing for her to make more regular appearances.”
None of the Wayne’s had ever seen Alfred look so pale, so worn out, so… old.
Bruce wrapped an arm around the butler’s waist pulling him towards the couch, making him sit gently.
“It’s okay, Alfie,” Bruce breathed as the others remained silent. Alfred was shaking slightly, unable to find his voice as he slowly held out a hand. Bruce clasped it tightly, sitting with the man that raised him in reassuring silence.
“Master Bruce,” Alfred’s voice was quiet as he continued to stare at their clasped hands, “I don’t normally ask anything of you except for you and the young masters to stay safe, but if I might make a request?”
“Anything, Alfred,” The man answered without a second of hesitation.
“Find Hawkmoth and Mayura and free Nooroo and Duusu as quickly as possible. Rescue them, please, no matter what it takes.”
“I promise,”
Alfred finally raised his eyes, a hard steely gaze flashing over his ward’s face, “Go.”
Bruce was on his feet and in the bedroom ready to change within a second, his sons not far behind him.
“I’m sorry Alfred,” Mari breathed only to be rewarded a shaky smile.
“It’s not your fault, Marinette,” He reassured, professional mask struggling to raise, “I believe it is time to call your team.”
“Tikki, spots on.”

Thirty minutes later Ladybug found herself staring at her whole team in the art room of her school with the blackout curtains pulled tight over the windows, able to feel their buzzing energy overflowing the room.
Abeille was looking at her imploringly, knowing slightly what the meeting was about, but the fact that Ladybug had contacted not just the regular team, but the reserve members, Pegasus, King Monkey, and Bunnyx, as well had them all on edge.
“Is everything okay, bugaboo?” Chat finally broke through the nerves to ask.
She nodded slightly, taking a deep breath, “Earlier today before the Akuma, Abeille came across two foreign heroes.”
The rooftop stilled, eyes wide.
“Who was here,” Vipieion asked first.
Ladybug gave them all reassuring smiles, “Nightwing and Red Robin, and after making contact with Abeille, I met with the Batman, Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin, and Robin. They wanted to offer their help.”
“They finally answered!” Chat cheered causing the gathered heroes to break out in celebration, even Ladybug couldn’t stop a grin from spreading her lips.
Finally indeed. Three days after Stoneheart the original duo had tried to contact the Justice League, and then again a month later, and again, and again...
A year and a half into the fight against Hawkmoth they finally got a response, telling them the contact was for real emergencies, not for pranks. The response wasn’t even signed past the official Justice League seal.
For League associated heroes to be here in Paris, and willing to talk, it filled them all with the hope that the fight wasn’t going to last forever.
Ladybug let them enjoy the feeling for a few minutes before she called them back to order. The bright smiles pointed at her made the nervous twist in her stomach lessen slightly even as she readied herself for the next announcement.
“Before we met up with the League and determining a game plan, I think it is only fair to have us all on the same page,” She told them, “After speaking with the Gotham heroes they informed me that they figured out not only my civilian identity but, Chat Noir, Ryuko and Abielle’s as well.”
“What!” Bunnyx roared, “How dare they! The sneak sons of-”
“Stop!” Ladybug cut her off with a glare, “They did not go digging into our backgrounds to figure it out, and while they will explain in more depth when we go meet them, I can tell you that they discovered our identities because Red Robin is a Metahuman with an ability he can’t physically turn off, it was the same way he figured out who Batman and other heroes were long before he was Robin, and he’s never given away an identity without express permission.”
The room quieted down but still looked uneasy, She just sighed.
“That brings me to the next point. With the League finally answering us, I think we need to not waste the opportunity. If we’re going to finish this, we need to use every advantage we have against Hawkmoth and Mayura, which means we need to be able to work at all hours of the day.”
The room was silent as all the heroes tried to decide where she was going with this, but she just stared at her partner.
Chat maintained her eye contact, and she could see the exact second he put together what she was saying.
“Ladybug,” He spoke slowly, “Are you serious?”
She gave a nod, “I’ve spoken with my Kwami and I’ve decided that if all of you are comfortable with it, I think we should tell each other our identities.”

Marinette’s Balcony Club
Me, feeling productive: Let’s write more for this AU even though I have tons of actual stuff to get done and I have to leave for a thing in, like, 20 minutes.
The link to the original post for this AU can be found: Here
Part 2 for this is: Here
Anyway, this isn’t exactly a part 2 to my previous post, but it is connected. I give you: Marinette’s Balcony Club
-
Marinette was five years old the first time she met a superhero. He was tall, and wore a red, spandex suit that covered him from head to toe, and there was a lightning bolt on his chest.
“Hi!” the superhero greeted with a grin. “You must be Marinette! I’m the Flash!” He spoke kind of funny, like he didn't really know how to sound out the words, and Marinette said so.
"Marinette!" her mother gasped. "Don't be rude. The Flash is from America. French isn't his first language."
America. Marinette had heard of America, mostly as the place that had a lot of superheroes. It had Batman and Superman, and maybe Wonder Woman too. She wasn't so sure about that one.
Fortunately, the Flash wasn't offended. He just ruffled her hair and promised to work more on his French.
He stayed for dinner and her parents doted on him all night. He ate whatever they put in front of him, and they put a lot in front of him. Before he left, he crouched to be on her level and said, "Well it was nice to meet you little missy! I hope to see you again soon!"
He stood and turned to his parents. "She’s one cute kid you’ve got there! She’s only a little big younger than my nephew!” And then he was gone.
But he came back. Not very often, but at least a couple of time a year. And every time, her parents would tell her the same thing:
“Don’t tell anyone, Marinette. It’s a secret.”
That made it all the more exciting.
She knew a superhero. She knew a superhero, and she had a secret.
Marinette was eleven years old the next time she met a superhero. Flash had come by to visit, and he brought someone else with him. He was taller than her, but not actually that tall, and he wore a spandex suit with a lightning bolt on his chest, but it was yellow instead of red and it didn’t cover his hair. That was red.
“Hi! I’m Kid Flash!” he said in terrible French. Judging by how the rest of their conversation went, he didn’t know how to say much more than that. He knew some simple phrases, and once he’d exhausted all of those, things got pretty awkward. At least until her mom put a huge plate of food in front of him. And then things just got messy.
Kid Flash visited again a few months later, still with the Flash by his side, and this time, his French was much improved. Well, improved in the sense that he could say more than just “How are you?” and “Where is the bathroom?” Marinette helped him with is pronunciation, and in turn he taught her a little English.
With Kid Flash now at his side, the Flash’s visits became a little more frequent. Marinette overheard her parents whispering to each other how they suspected that Kid Flash didn’t have many friends, so that was why they came over so often. Marinette wasn’t sure who wouldn’t want to be friends with a superhero, but she made sure to give Kid Flash a big huge next time she saw him. He deserved it for how much his French had improved anyway.
Kid Flash started to visit her without the Flash, after that. She’d find him sometimes, just sitting on her balcony, looking down. “I screwed up a fight today,” he’d sometimes say, or “Some jerk at school threw my lunch on the floor.” Sometimes, she’d find him literally vibrating in place, in high spirits as he exclaimed, “I just ran around the world four times and now I’m starving!” Sometimes, he just “happened to be in Paris” and would stop by for a quick hello and a danish before bolting off. Sometimes he’d come in to greet her parents. Sometimes not.
Marinette was thirteen years old when she became a superhero. Now there was something she didn’t see coming. And yet, here she was, swinging through Paris with a magical yo-yo. She met her third superhero (besides herself) in the middle of said swing through Paris. But this was different. It didn’t quite feel as real. Flash and Kid Flash, they were real superheroes. She was just a girl in a silly costume.
And then they defeated some villains, got an arch-nemesis, dealt with keeping a secret identity...well, maybe she wasn’t just a girl in a silly costume. Marinette felt she maybe understood Kid Flash little bit more now.
She can’t talk to him about it, though. She hasn’t seen him since she’s gotten her miraculous.
It occurred to her that even when he did eventually turn up, she’d have to keep the whole Ladybug thing a secret from him.
She still wishes he’d stop by soon. It’d be nice to see him again.
Marinette thinks maybe she should change her tally for how many superheroes she’s met to how many superheroes she’s met as Marinette. Because meeting Chat Noir as Marinette is very different from meeting him as Ladybug.
Not because he’s any different, he’s actually acts exactly the same. It’s just her that’s different. Marinette wonders how different Kid Flash acts as his civilian self.
Honestly, when Chat Noir shows up on her balcony later that night after defeating the akuma, “Just to check up on her,” she isn’t all that surprised. Superheroes come to the Dupain-Cheng Bakery. Or they live there. Maybe word got around that they give out free food to any poor hero in need.
It’s definitely the food that keeps Chat visiting.
He comes by more often than Kid Flash does. Not surprising, since he actually lives in Paris, and Kid Flash lives in America (Central City, Marinette was pretty sure, but she didn’t know American cities very well).
But Marinette gets used to it. It’s nice, to know her partner this way. It felt more real.
Marinette isn’t sure why seeing Kid Flash on her balcony one night some months after getting her miraculous surprises her, but it does. Maybe it’s because they’re on level playing fields now. Even if he doesn’t know it.
“Heya Marinette!” Kid Flash greets cheerfully, a wide grin on his face.
“Hey,” says the guy standing next to him.
Okay, Kid Flash is one thing, Chat Noir actually makes sense, but Robin?!? The Boy Wonder? What’s Robin doing on her balcony?
“Uh...” Marinette stutters. “Hi?”
“Sorry I haven’t been by in a while, things have been pretty crazy back home,” Kid Flash apologized. Beside him, Robin snorts.
“Crazy is putting it lightly,” he grunts.
“Uhhhh...”
“Oh, right!” Kid Flash exclaims. “Robin, this is Marinette! Her parents own the best bakery in Paris! And Marinette, this is my best bud Robin. Yes, the Robin!”
Robin’s brows twitch in a way that means he’s rolling his eyes, but Marinette only knows because she herself has some experience with domino masks these days.
“KF and I were in the area and he insisted we stop by,” Robin explains. His French is far better than Kid Flash’s, the accent is almost perfect. “I hope we’re not a bother.”
“N-no, no bother!” Marinette squeaks. Honestly, she should be used to this by this point, but there’s a huge difference between knowing a few superheroes and meeting the most famous kid hero in the entire world. Well, maybe not that huge a difference, but still. “Um...would you like something to eat?”
Robin grins. “So this is why you like this place so much,” he comments. “Marinette’s Balcony Club is the best.”
(One day, far in the future, Marinette’s balcony would, indeed, become the place where all Miraculous holders come to hang out, and Marinette swears that Robin was some kind of seer.)
Kid Flash and Robin leave a while later with a promise to be back whenever they can. Marinette never found out why they were there in the first place. She never learned that they were scoping out other teen heroes after starting their own little team. She didn’t even know that they knew she was Ladybug (but of course they knew).
Chat keeps visiting. The Flash stops by once and catches up with her parents. Marinette mentioned meeting Robin and he just chuckled and shook his head. “I hope Bats doesn’t find out,” she heard him softly mumble in English (she was pretty fluent in the language now, thanks to her American visitors), but decided to ignore whatever it was that that implied.
It’s actually not too long after when Marinette finds a pair of American teen heroes on her balcony once more. Kid Flash wants food (like always). Robin wants a nap (he says that, but then proceeds to parkour around her entire roof). They’re great company. Until a third superhero decides to stop by.
“What the hell?”
Oops. That’d be Chat Noir.
-
Okay, so yes, there will be a part 2 to this. It just started getting really long and the tone I had for this turned out completely different from the tone I had planned for the Jelly Chat scene. Stay tuned, nerds.
Okay, so in one of the comments of the first thing I wrote for this AU, I got asked to tag them if I ever wrote more for this, which is really awesome and makes me feel all bubbly inside that someone liked my AU so much, but I’ve never tagged someone before, and I kinda treat my Tumblr blog like I did my first boyfriend, so I really barely know how to use this site. If I fail here, I apologize.

Catch Up Here
Wednesdays for the last month and a half had been absolute hell, nearly twenty hour days, non stop costume changes and repairs, a steady flood of people coming and going out of the mid sized trailer serving as a dressing room on wheels. Nell Stewart had become accustom to the chaos and frantic pace that her job provided each and every day, grabbing a cloak from the rack labeled “Ubbe” she held the soft fur in her hands, marching it to the man who would display the glorious piece on screen.
“Thanks, Nell.” the smooth mix of Scotland and Australia met her head on.
“No problem,” Nell smirked “and Jordan, this time, don't drop it until after the shoot.”
“I make no promises.” Jordan chuckled, glancing down at the woman who fastened the broach on the grey and tan fur.
“All set, go on with ya.” Nell waved the actor out of her “office du jour”.
Next up to dress would be “Ivar” - the name always made her smile thinking of her son's not so far off name of Ivan. Ivar was undoubtedly one of the best characters to create, and one of the most annoying actors on set. Nell sighed, fingering through the pages on the cupboard before her. One last glance over the costume that she would be putting on the young Danish man.
Alex tried, he really did, yet somehow he always ended up offending the woman. How was he to sit there while she dressed and prepped him, and not want to talk to her? He had watched her with the other actors and crew, she was obviously sweet and a gentle soul. Somehow every time he got close to Nell, she ended up looking like she wanted to beat him with whatever heavy object was closest.
Taking his chances, Alex cautiously stepped into the costume trailer. He had been here seven hours and had another ten to go. Such was life, for anyone who thought acting was glamorous, fools. Whistling a merry tune with a pep in his step despite the hours he had spent crawling around in the mud on set, Alex was determined to make today different.
This was going to be the day that he got Nell to laugh with him, not at him, or worse stand stone faced while he attempted to make jokes.
“Hey, Ne...” He was met with a glare from the costume designer, her phone to her ear. “Sorry.” he muttered softly standing by the door, not daring to step any further with the mud on his costume. He had been lectured before about dragging mud through the trailer.
This woman treated him like he was her son, not somebody she worked with. A disappointing scenario.
“Are you still there, Janelle?” The man on the phone called her attention. She hated when he called her by her full name, more so she hated the feeling of electricity it sent racing through her.
Nell glanced at Alex, lowering her eyes and voice. Her private business didn't need to be aired through the entire lot.
“I can't talk right now, I'm at work.”
“I will only a take a moment, I promise. Is Ivan with you?”
“No, he's at school. Why?” She found the pants, cloak, and jerkin she would need in order to dress the man waiting for her. Handing them to Alex, she motioned for him to use the space on the left. It was the easiest room to clean later. “And don't get mud on the new costume.”
“Excuse me?”
“Sorry. Continue.” She returned to her call.
“I only wanted to speak with him, see how he is doing. How's school, the usual. I don't want to take your time, but I wanted to let you know that I have a bit of time off and...”
“And you wanted to see him?” Her ex had a habit of doing this to her. It was always the same story, they would go months upon months without seeing him, then he would call her and ask for a visit. In truth, she couldn't really complain about a man making an effort to see his son, but it would be nicer if it wasn't a once a year thing.
“If I could, yes. He can come to me, or I can come to you. Whichever works. Think on it and let me know.”
Nell tried her best to hide the sigh.
“Send me the dates. I don't want him missing school.”
“It would be next month. I believe he is on holiday then. I will have the dates sent and we can discuss it, when we're not sneaking away to take calls at work. Chat soon?”
“Yeah, sure.”
Freshly dressed from his base layer to the hooded wool cloak, Alex emerged after giving her a breath or two alone to regroup, her call hadn't sounded pleasant. He didn't want to pry, yet he felt sorry for the single mother. Alex knew her son, the bundle of energy that would sometimes tear through the trailer, accompanying his mother to work. Ivan's dark curls were as wild as he was. Alex liked the kid, he was funny.
“Alright, what do we need to adjust?” Nell turned to Alex, her phone in her pocket and her mind somewhat on work.
“It feels good.” Alex raised his arms, bending at the waist, and moving about to prove his point. “The boots, tough.”
Nell nodded. “What about them?”
More than once she had accidentally pulled the wrong boots, trying to fit Alex's feet into a pair meant for someone else.
“I can never get these done up, can you?” Alex blushed at the confession. The boots were double laced and the laces in the back were his kryptonite. Nell instructed him to sit and keeled down to assist. As a mother dressing someone was a second nature.
“You know,” Alex glanced down as she fitted his boots. “We've worked together for almost two years, I know nothing about you.”
“Oh yeah?” Her focus was on the laces of the knee high boots.
“Mmm.” He nodded, his dark hair escaping his pony tail. “Let's play a game. Three things about our self. I'll go first,” Alex made his suggestion. She was shocked he could put his phone down long enough to chat. “When I was a little boy, I wanted to be a doctor. I love anything to do with Space, and my best memory is a family trip to the beach, when I was eight.”
“Such detail.” She mocked, a smirk gracing her lips.
“I reached deep for those,” Alex nudged her with his foot. “Your turn.”
“Fine.” She huffed, sitting back on her heels. The second boot could wait, while she found three things to shut him up. “I have worked in costume design for four years full time, I hate small talk and nosy people, and I hate cake.”
“You hate cake!” Alex exclaimed wide eyed with disbelief. “What? What do you have on your birthday?”
“Pie.” Her answer was flat.
“Huh.” Alex mused, he couldn't get over the last statement. “Do you at least make cakes? You know, for when your family or friends want a birthday cake?”
“Nope.”
“Never?” She shook her head. Alex huffed. “Not even when your son asks?”
“He doesn't like cake either.” Her voice softened.
“He doesn't like it, or you don't let him have it?” It was Alex's turn to smirk. “You know, since you hate it and all.”
“You're annoying.”
“When's his birthday? I'm going to buy him a cake, a big one! Loaded with frosting and chocolate, sprinkles galore.” Alex continued his chatter. Mainly to hear himself speak.
“Look,” She sighed, finishing up the boot lace. “I enjoy working with you and I like my job, but can we leave my son out of this? Please.”
“O-Okay.” Alex frowned. “I'm sorry.”
“It's just...it's complicated and the last thing he needs right now is...forget it.” Nell rocked back on her heels. Admiring her handy work with the costume.
“I'm sorry, truly.”
“It's fine. I've just...never mind. You're good to go.” Nell stood up, wiping her hands on her pants out of instinct.
Alex sat for a heartbeat, trying to find another way to express his apology. The crease and frown on Nell's face told him to quit while he was ahead. He could take a hint. Rising to his feet, he cleared his throat and thanked Nell for helping.
Alone with her thoughts for a moment, Nell rubbed the heels of her hands across her eyes. It would be another late night. The push to get these scenes filmed in the last season, in order for the cast and crew of Vikings to take their short term summer break. Her initial plans for the few weeks off was to pack up Ivan and take off for a vacation home.
A few weeks visiting her parents and the rest of her family, back in Canada would be ideal. She hadn't been back since Easter, when Ivan had gone to spend time with his father's family, and she wanted her son to visit his grandparents. So much for that plan, after the phone call from his father; Ivan wouldn't want to do anything other than visit his father for a few weeks.
Despite the unconventional relationship, her son idolized his father. As a boy should.
Why did he make everything complicated? This man's name came up and as if by some curse everything in Nell's world would begin to fall apart, all over again.
“I see your boyfriend was in.” Nell pushed her hair out of her eyes and slowly looked up at her co-worker. She hadn't heard Rayna come in.
Rolling her eyes, she shook her head at the teasing. “He's not. He is however annoying.”
“Aww, he's just trying to get your attention. Come on, Nelly, throw the kid a bone.” the seasoned designer laughed, handing Nell a cup of shitty set coffee.
“He's too young.”
“You're not exactly an old maid.” Rayna continued to laugh.
Nell shook her head, daily she endured a teasing from the other woman, among others on set. Alex Høgh Andersen turned into an absolute fool and a puppy around the costume designer, everybody but Nell seemed to notice his affection. What she passed off as annoying banter, was the Dane's way of flirting. A skill he needed to work on, with women who were immune to actor's charms, and on older women in general.
Thirty was far from old. So Nell was constantly told.
It had to do with having a son at twenty three. She had grown old and boring faster than she had ever wanted. Another resentment that Nell held toward her ex, he had gotten to go off and do whatever he pleased, while she had raised their son. Whoever said older men were more mature was full of shit.
“Whatever, we have work to do. I need to finish mending those dresses for next week. I don't think our extras want to come in and be naked all day.”
“Some of them might.” Rayna joked, sitting her coffee down and grabbing her sewing kit.
Throughout the day Nell continued to dress cast, principal and extra alike. She enjoyed her job, the creativity and the structure. The pride and joy when a new costume was put together, nothing beat seeing her work on the screen and in the media.
She'd once been asked why she wanted to design costumes, simple. Without a good costume, nothing would ever be accomplished. There would be no life or charisma to a story being told on the screen. Costumes had been a last resort once, when she'd auditioned for a school play and was rejected for a role on stage. Even the chorus didn't want her, leaving her to help the costume department.  Nell got hooked.
Alex had gone out to set, coming back only twice that Nell had been in the trailer. He tried his hardest to strike up another conversation, but the two times they were in the same proximity, Nell was too busy to chat. He felt horrible for making her feel like he was prying earlier and needed to tell her.
Wisely, advised against it, Alex kept his head low. For now.
Knocking off nearly twenty one hours after arriving at work, Nell stretched her arms and groaned. Tomorrow was a later start for her, which meant she would be able to walk Ivan to school and spend a little time with him. He was in bed when she'd left and would be in bed when she arrived home.
Thank god for their Bridie. Nell would be lost without the saint of a woman.
Dropping her keys on the stand inside the door, her bag was next. Letting go of the bag felt like the weight of the world had been lifted from her body. The house was quiet and smelled delicious. Bridie was in the kitchen, tidying up when Nell poked her head in.
“He's in bed, has been since eight.” the well put together blonde woman smiled affectionately.  She looked like she should be a CEO or investment banker, not a full time live out Nanny.  “Long day?”
“Extremely. I am going to run up quick. Thank you!” Nell held her hands together as if in prayer and smiled.
Tiptoeing up the short flight of stairs she followed the path to her son's room. Her bedroom at the other end of the seven foot hallway beckoned her. Not yet. Soon, bed, soon. As expected, Ivan was sleeping soundly, a Captain Underpants book fallen open on the floor and his blankets half tossed off. Her son slept like whirl wind.
Picking up the blanket and draping it over her son, Nell smiled. Dark curls sprung across his head and his tiny arms were wrapped around his pillow, snoring away somewhere in dreamland. As adorable as he looked, it hurt her heart to be gone all day. Since the final season had been announced to the cast and crew, the days at work had become longer and the time for anything else seemed nearly impossible.
Only a few more weeks and Nell would be home for a break. Except...She wanted to groan, instead opted for an eye roll.
Ivan stirred, shifting around in his bed but not waking. Tucked in and kissed by mom, he was good to resume his slumber uninterrupted.  Slumber. In the hall, Nell heard her bed calling once again. A loud Siren Song.
Soon!
Downstairs a cup of tea waited on the counter, while Bridie fished around for a plate to put the freshly made sandwich on. Nell's heart swelled and her shoulders sagged, overwhelmed by the gesture. Bridie was here to look after Ivan, bless her for always watching out for Nell, too.
“I know you're going to say you've had dinner, but you need something hearty.”
“Actually, I missed dinner. I had a fruit bar and an orange that one of the lighting guys shared with me.” Nell slid onto the stool at the breakfast nook, accepting the peppermint tea and chicken sandwich. Not at all embarrassed by the moan when she took the first bite, causing Bridie to laugh.
“Pleased that you like it.” Bridie winked. “There are some muffins in the container next to the toaster, blueberry. I made his lunch up, and yours, for tomorrow. Left over shepherd's pie.” She listed off a few other details from the day. “When should I return?”
“I don't go in until eleven, I'll need you to pick him up then you can bring him to me. I'm in the office studio all day tomorrow.” Nell instructed. “Thank you, for all of this.”
“You know I love doing it.” Bridie gave her a gentle pat on the shoulder.
“I know and I love you for loving it.” Nell chuckled. Tucking her hair behind her ears, “Oh, Ivan doesn't know, but in a few weeks his father wants to visit him. I'll let you know when he has the dates sent. I think it will be while we were supposed to be gone, anyway.”
“That sounds...” Bridie paused, watching Nell's face to gauge the reaction.
“It's a good thing.” Nell tried to assure her nanny and herself. “It will be good.”
Fingers crossed.
“Well, if you need me for anything you know how to find me.” Bridie would help hide a body, no questions asked. Nell was certain of it.
“Thank you, but I think we'll be okay.” Nell stood to hug the older woman. “Now, go home. I am sure Joe is missing you like crazy. Tell him that you're his for most of the day tomorrow.”
“Good night, Nell.” Bridie waved disappearing toward the door. Nell heard the final click of the lock, signaling that she was on her own until Ivan woke for school.
Dirty plate in the sink, resting until Nell had the energy to do something about it, the cup of peppermint tea joined Nell on her way to bed. Too tired to shower or move, she kicked off her clothes and reached for an old tshirt to wear. The weather was growing warmer as summer approached Ireland.
Summer in Ireland was majestic, really any season in Ireland was majestic. Nell thought as she crawled into her bed. She had decided that the first year she had come here to be an intern. How giddy and naive she had been back then. How different life had been in 2007. How different Nell had been in 2007.
Something about Ireland and that majesty.
Phone down to charge and her alarm set, she was ready for sleep. Slipping under her duvet, she barely had time to get comfortable before sleep over took her.

Three Days ~ 43
Tumblr media
~*~Emma~*~
I remembered Will from a couple of parties and Kirk and Boone's wedding. Nice guy. Apparently, he and some of his friends thought I was the extra in a three-way with Eli and Angie. Eli didn't see a reason he should correct them. Angie invited Alissa out on one of our girls’ nights and she became one of the group. It had probably been six months since I’d last seen her. I liked her and we got along well. The friendship had never progressed past those nights. I can't remember if I met her before or after Jimmy and I broke up. Either way, I moved, and we only ever saw each other on nights out. Now I find she's married to one of Sebastian's best friends. We have at least three friends in common and our friends' group overlaps. Very cool, but very weird. Almost like we were supposed to meet.
Wednesday I got the photoshoot "before" picture about fifteen minutes before my kids arrived. Looked like Sebastian in the morning. Hair a little messy, a crease on his face from his pillow, and his eyes not quite awake. His beard had grown in more and I ran my fingers over it in the picture, knowing it would be gone in the after. I didn’t dislike either version. I was just used to the way I’d met him.
My aide took the kids to lunch and I went in search of my after. The first thing I noticed was his beard was trimmed super close, where it was long stubble, but it was still there. I guess they'd changed their mind. His hair was styled not that different than he did except every hair was in place and I was betting it was fixed where it wouldn't move. Makeup perfected his skin tone and somehow made his eyes even bluer. Maybe it was the dark blue robe he was wearing. It had been hours since he'd sent, but I still sent a text telling him how handsome he looked.
I grabbed my lunch out of my mini-fridge and headed down to Mallory's room. I'd made some pasta salad loaded with veggies while talking with Sebastian last night and was looking forward to eating. Our secretary was walking toward me with a bouquet of cookies. They were shaped and iced like crayons, rulers, apples, notepads, and glue. Outside of teacher appreciation week that usually signaled a parent had gotten pissed at a grade or consequence and sided with their kid. At least, until they got both sides of the story. Cookies were good apologies and could be shared with the other grade level teachers who were sure to know every word you said and the tone of voice you used.
"Who got yelled at this time, Jamie?"
 She lifted an eyebrow, "You."
"No one’s yelled at me." That meant they were from Sebastian.
"Then your new boyfriend sent cookies instead of flowers."
I laughed, "Good possibility." I took them from her. "Take one for you and Kim."
"I was hoping you'd say that. They smell delicious."
I walked into Mallory's room with my healthy pasta salad and not at all healthy cookies. "I brought dessert." Our lunch group made appreciative noises.
Cindy laughed, "Who's parent did you piss off?"
I shook my head, "No one."
Mallory snatched the card while my hands were full, "I believe these are from the new man." I went ahead and sat down, trusting the card would be G-rated. Mallory read, "Halfway into the last full week. Hope this helps you all make it through. Sebastian." She looked to me, "Sebastian? That's a mouthful."
"Yes, he is."
Before we dug into the cookies, I had everyone take one and gather together. I'd send the picture as a thank you. They'd heard about him Monday after the tournament and I talked more about him today. I wasn't ready to share him yet. I was a little surprised word hadn't traveled from the tournament, but I guess there wasn't enough overlap. Outside of my team, where I worked wasn’t common knowledge. This was an advantage of not working and living in the same school district. If there was gossip it was more than likely identifying me as the setter on that team than a teacher. The moment his last name entered my school it would be a topic of conversation in all three buildings. I don't know exactly what that would mean. I'd been here four years and it was common knowledge where I went over winter break. Ed may eclipse Sebastian, but not when you throw Marvel in the mix. We have superhero day during our anti-drug week. I see the Marvel costumes and t-shirts. There'd be a lot of talk. Once the kids were gone, I’d feel more comfortable sharing who this new man is. The kids could make this a zoo.
Mallory, Cindy, and I were the last left. Cindy asked, "Will we ever meet this Sebastian? See a picture."
"I’m sure." I smiled, "We haven't known each two weeks yet. It's good and I'm protecting the new relationship like you do a new kitten. It needs to grow a little more."
Mallory agreed, "You know the Barbie Bitches at the high school are going to want all the details."
I did know that. "I’m not ready to share."
Cindy took our trash to the cafeteria while Mal and I cleaned up the tables. We sat down to finish our drinks, stretching out our break as long as possible. Her kids coming into the room was my cue to head back to my room as mine would be a few minutes behind them. It wasn’t quite time yet.
My text alert went off with a picture of Sebastian. I reached for my phone, but not so quick that Mallory didn’t see. Her eyes went wide and I held up a finger, “Give me one minute and I'll show you.” He was wearing a dark blue suit, with an unbuttoned white shirt, and an untied bow tie. He looked amazing and about two seconds away from sex. I put my hand over the screen and pushed it toward Mal, "Can I trust you to tell no one. I'm not ready for this to be here."
Mal put her hand over mine, "You know I'm not telling anyone. If that's who I think it is, the kids finding out will make Field Day crazy. Too much unstructured time to gossip and ask you questions." She started lifting her hand, "Let me see."
I moved my hand from the phone to my mouth.
Mallory looked at the picture a long time before she said, "Yep, that’s a Sebastian. Damn, Emma, you met him," she tapped my screen, "in the grocery?"
I nodded.
"Now I really wish I would have come to volleyball. Although, I probably would have just stared."
"No, you wouldn't. A few minutes and you would see he's like anyone else. Nothing special."
She grinned, "Except to you." Her kids started coming into the room.
 I stood, "Except to me."
As I headed to the door she called out, "We're sitting in the back at faculty meeting."
Sebastian had sent another picture by the time recess rolled around. He was in black jeans and a t-shirt a least one size too small.
Emma ~ Might have to cut you out of that shirt. This is not a complaint.
Sebastian ~ It was stretchy.
Emma ~ How is it going?
Sebastian ~ Good. I'm sitting in a chair having my hair changed.
Emma ~ What are they doing to it?
Sebastian ~ Making it look like it did when I got here. Apparently, people sleep in very expensive watches. I' II be done soon. No tommorow.
Emma ~ What will you do with the unexpected free time?
Sebastian ~ Clean my apartment.
Emma ~ I was going to say you don't have to, but you do. Ha Ha, the first time at least.
Sebastian ~ Exactly. I’m pretty neat. Bathroom is a wreck.
Emma ~ Bathrooms always need cleaning. I have to run. Argument on the monkey bars.
Sebastian ~ Talk to you later.
It would be Thursday night before we talked. Real-life set in. I had a volleyball game Wednesday night and Sebastian went out for drinks with the photographer once the shoot was over. I got home and was exhausted. We lost. I don't like to lose.
Thursday during the day there were no texts. My guess is he got home late and drunk. Overslept. Busy at gym. Returns home to sleep off the night before. I was driving home when a call from Sebastian came in.
"Buna ziua, Sebasti-an.” <Good afternoon>
“Ce mai faci?” <How are you?>
Thankfully he kept it simple. “Bine, tu?”  <Good and you?>
Sebastian switched to English. “I broke my phone. I pulled it out to text some woman, got elbowed by a guy on the sidewalk, and threw my phone on the ground. Screen shattered and I held it in my hand watching it slowly die. It just glitched and sputtered away in front of me."
"My poor, baby. Are you mourning the loss?"
"Nope, an hour in an Apple store and I have a shiny new iPhone. They were able to transfer my data over. Good as new. That's why you hadn’t heard from me."
I smiled, "I thought you were sleeping one-off."
"I barely drank. Too much to do today. Sheets changed, bathroom clean, kitchen has some food, and the family room is clean. When are you going to be here?"
"I got permission to leave a little early. I’ll definitely make the three o’clock train, but I’ll try and do the two. If that's ok with you?"
“I'm not going anywhere after the gym. I'll be here waiting."
"I'm excited. Seeing you. You with my friends and your friends. It’s going to be fun."
"It is."
Just to be sure. "Most excited about you."
"I like hearing that."
I set my alarm a little early to give myself time to finish packing. I’m not normally an over-packer, but I couldn't decide on a dress for dinner. Or anything else. Insane. At least today wasn't a theme day I need to wear a costume for. I wore a pair of black capris and a bright pink top with rolled sleeves and a long zipper up the front. Up for school, a little less so for Sebastian.
 First text of the day.
Sebastian ~ Are you here yet?
I had nothing but fun things planned for the day. Yesterday I'd had them vote for their favorite books and we read those at the top of every hour. We played math games, a science and social studies game show, and our top music and movement videos. I ate my lunch getting the STEM Lab cart and prepped everything for my assistant. The kids had been wonderful all day and I didn't feel the least bit guilty when I fled the building when she took them outside for recess.
I waited until I was safely on the train to text Sebastian.
Emma ~ On my way
Sebastian ~ Early!
Emma ~ I’ll beat the worst of the traffic
Sebastian ~ Exactly what I was thinking.
Sebastian ~ I should shower.
I put in my ear pods, clicking shuffle on my "Current Faves" playlist. This one changed all the time. Some never left the list. Recently there'd be an influx of happy love songs and sexy mood music. I think I even dozed off a couple of times. The closer I got the more butterflies were in my stomach. I was excited to see him, but a little nervous. I was going to his place. It would be different than surrounded by my stuff. I’m nervous about stupid stuff like where do I put my toothbrush, is it ok to look through the books in his extra room, what I do with my dirty clothes, and what if I get thirsty in the middle of the night? It's making me think back and wondering if I'd made him welcome... comfortable.
I took a cab from the train station, looking out the window at the city I used to call home. I wasn't familiar with where he lived so I watched the numbers on the buildings. His building from the outside looked like an old converted warehouse. The brick was red with a gray stone line between every floor. Looked about seven floors. He'd texted me the entry code and I hopped on the elevator to the fifth.
Sebastian opened his door so fast it was like he was standing beside it and I almost fell over. He was barefoot in ripped jeans and a Rutgers t-shirt. He held the door open with a hand high on the door. Add in the finger styled hair, bright blue eyes, and a smile that said he was happy to see me and he was the sexiest thing I'd ever laid eyes on. It was the barefoot part that got me.  "I'm here."

Word Count: 3.1k
A lot has happened since that Christmas eve day. You auditioned for the spring musical, Les Miserable. On opening night, Nancy and Steve came to see you, as well as your mom, Dustin, the rest of the party and Jonathan, it was an awkward encounter. Nancy and Steve brought you flowers. You got a lot closer with Robin Buckley, having sleepovers almost every weekend. It was nice to have a girl friend who wasn’t dating your ex best friend who you were totally falling for. You would avoid Steve as much as you could in the hallways, trying as hard as you could to get those feelings to go away. He would always call out your name in the hallways and try to talk to you, but you would just walk away and pretend like you didn’t hear him. You, Nancy, and Jonathan would hang out some of the time. It had almost been a year since the whole Will disappearing thing.
~October 29th, 1984~
You and your mom sit on the couch with Mews watching TV while Dustin runs through the house.
“Shit, shit, shit” Dustin mumbles, throwing couch cushions all over.
“Dusty, watch out! You almost hit Mews!” You mom scolds.
“Can I please look under your cushions,” Dustin asks. You glare at him not wanting to get up. He raises his eyebrows at you. You sigh and stand up, your mom following. Dustin reaches into the couch cushions and pulls out a couple quarters.
“Y/n, will you pretty, pretty please give me a ride to the arcade?”
You let out a deep sigh and grab your car keys.
~October 30th, 1984~
Dustin sits in your car rambling about how someone named madmax took over all his high scores on the games.
“Madmax? Who’s Madmax?” You ask.
“I don’t know! Keith said the only way he would tell us is if I could get him a date with you.”
“I hope you declined.”
“I didn’t want to, but mike told me I was prostituting you, so I said no.” This earned him a smack on the head.
You pull into the school’s parking lot. You look over at the car you parked next to which was a huge mistake. In the car is Nancy and Steve, looking over some papers. Before they can look up you dart away.
“Have a good day Dusty!” You shout as you run off, leaving Dustin with a confused look on his face.
*   *   *
You and Robin walk behind Nancy and Jonathan as you leave English class, talking amongst yourselves. Tina hands you and Robin flyers for her party. Nancy turns around and looks at you and Robin.
“You guys are going to this right?” She asks.
“Yes!”
“No way,” You and Robin answer at the same time.
“What do you mean no?!” Robin asks you.
“My mom and I are watching scary movies” You say making up some excuse. The real reason was because you knew Steve would be there and you didn’t want to have any awkward drunk interactions with him, so you thought it best to stay away from him.
“Come on, it’ll be fun!” Robin says. You stop and think for a minute, weighing your options.
“I’ll only go if Jonathan goes.” Jonathan looks at you like your crazy then looks over to Nancy who raises her eyebrows, “Fine, I’ll go.”
Oh great, the only reason you said that was because you figured Jonathan would never want to go to a party. You should’ve known he would have said yes, especially to Nancy. Robin says goodbye and departs from the group.
You follow Nancy and Jonathan to Nancy’s locker. Once you get there, Nancy turns to you.
“Are you coming to the dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Holland tonight?” Mr. and Mrs. Holland had invited you and Nancy over for dinner tonight, you had almost forgotten.
“Oh, yeah, of course.” You respond.
“I think Steve is going to come too.”
“Oh.” You say. As if on cue, Steve comes racing up to Nancy, picking her up and spinning her around.
“I’ve missed you!” He says. This then leads to a deep make out session. You and Jonathan decide it’s best to leave. You don’t think Jonathan knows about your feelings for Steve, but then again, Jonathan probably thinks you don’t know about his feelings for Nancy.
*   *    *
You were not looking forward to this dinner anymore. Sure, you were looking forward to seeing Barb’s parents as you haven’t seen them since, since the “accident,” but you haven’t been in the same room as Steve since Christmas Eve, and you haven’t even exchanged so much as 2 words to each other.
You are running late to the Holland’s. When you arrive you see Steve’s car is already there. You get up to the front door, take a big breath, and ring and doorbell. You debated just turning around and going home, and saying you weren’t feeling well. You have been dreading this dinner, at first because you didn’t think you could even look at Hollands without saying anything about Barb and the upside down, even though it was part of your “contract” you had to sign, and now Steve was going to be here.
The door opens and you are greeted by Mrs. Holland, who quickly pulls you into a hug. She walks you into the dining room where Nancy, Steve and Mr. Holland are sitting.
“Sorry I’m late,” You say taking the seat next to Nancy. You don’t bother to look at Steve, but you can feel his eyes staring at you. You send Nancy a small smile. You look down at the spread of food on the table, there is chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans from Kentucky Fried Chicken.
“I’m sorry I didn’t have any time to cook anything tonight! I wanted to make the casserole you all like so much, but I just completely ran out of time.” Mrs. Holland says.
“I love KFC.” Steve says, shoving some chicken in his mouth. You couldn’t help but roll your eyes.
You all start munching on the food, sitting in an awkward silence.
“I noticed a for sale sign in your yard, is that the neighbors?” You ask, breaking the silence.
Mr. and Mrs. Holland exchange glances. “We hired Murray Bauman, have you heard of him?” Mrs. Holland asks, handing you a card with his information on it.  You look at it, furrowing your eyebrows, you pass the card over to Nancy and Steve.
“No, no I don’t think so.” You say.
“He’s agreed to take the case,” Mrs. Holland says, looking at you with hopeful eyes.
“What does that mean exactly?” Nancy pipes up.
“It means, we’re going to get our Barb back.” You look over to Nancy and Steve. Nancy’s eyes fill with tears and she quickly rushes to the bathroom. For the first time that night, you lock eyes with Steve. You quickly turn your gaze away. You bite your bottom lip, not knowing what to say.
“Oh, That, t-that’s great!” Steve says, stuttering.  Then the silence creeps back into the room. Steve speaks up again.
“It’s finger lookin good.” He says gnawing on a chicken wing. You couldn’t help but let out a small laugh. He looks up at you sending a smile your way.
*   *    *
After the dinner, you, Nancy, and Steve walk out together. You give a hug to Nancy and say a quick goodbye to Steve and head to your car. As soon as your butt hits the car seat and the door shuts, the waterworks start. Seeing Mr. and Mrs. Holland have so much hope about finding Barb while you sat there knowing she was dead was just terrible.
You rest your head against the steering wheel as you let the tears fall from your eyes onto your lap. The sound of a light knocking at your window causes you to jump. You look up and see Steve. You quickly wipe off your tears as best as you can and roll down your window.
“Hi.” He says.
“Hello.” You reply.
“I just wanted to make sure you were ok,”
“I’m fine, goodnight.” You say, starting to roll up the window.
“Woah, woah, woah.” He says, you stop rolling up the window.
“What, Steve?” You ask, unenthusiastically.
“I just, are you sure you’re ok?” He asks again.
“Yes, now goodbye.” You roll up the window and wait for Steve to walk back to his car before you leave.
*    *     *
“Robin, what the hell am I supposed to do? I think I’m over him and then he sends me a smile, or even just a quick glance and I’m sucked back in again!” You ask Robin, over the phone.
“Just- just don’t think about it!” Robin replies.
“Wow, just don’t think about it? Why didn’t I think of that!” You say sarcastically.
“Ha, ha. Ok I gotta go, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Maybe Robin was right, just don’t think about him. I mean how hard could that be?
~October 31st, 1984~
The day of the party has arrived. You, Robin, and Jonathan decided to all ride together. Robin comes over to your house after school and you both start getting ready for the party. You and Robin decided to dress up as the Pink Ladies from Grease. You wore black tank tops, black leggings, and the iconic pink ladies’ jackets. You decided to wear black high heels while Robin opted for black flats. Your mom insisted on getting pictures of you, Robin, and Dustin all wearing your costumes. By the time the photoshoot was done, Jonathan was pulling up to the driveway.
*    *     *
When you guys arrive at the party, before you even get out of the car, you can hear Motley Crue playing loudly.
“I’m excited!” Robin says, while getting out of the car.
“That makes one of us.” You respond.
As soon as you enter the house, you lose Robin in the sea of people. You look around and see Steve and Nancy dancing in the center of the dance floor.
“I’m going to go get a drink, want anything?” You turn to ask Jonathan, only to notice he’s talking to a girl. You sigh and start pushing your way through the crowd. By the time you get to the punch bowl, Nancy and Steve are there as well.
“Excuse me,” You say pushing past Steve.. “What’s in this?” You ask Nancy. Before she gets a chance to answer you, some guy next to you turns towards you.
“Pure fuel! want to try some pretty lady?” He says stumbles towards you with his cup extended, this caused Steve to put his arm out in front of the boy to stop him.
“No, she doesn’t, buddy.” Steve says pushing him away. You give him a small smile as if to say thank you. Nancy pours some punch into her cup then starts to chug it.
“Woah take it easy Nance,” you say. She grabs your hand, “Y/n come dance with us!” She says.
“Oh, no I’m ok, you go have fun.” She lets go of her hand and makes her way back into the crowd. Steve gives you a smile and makes his way to Nancy but is stopped by Tommy and a boy you’ve never seen before.
“Looks like we got ourselves a new keg king Harrington,” Tommy says. Tommy looks over to you.
“Well, well, well, Henderson. Never thought I’d see you at a party.” You scoff at him and look towards the boy you’ve never seen before, your eyes lock. He flashes a smile at you.
“I don’t believe we’ve met, I’m Billy Hargrove.” He says, extended his hand.
“Y/n Henderson.” You respond, shaking his hand.
“How about I get you a drink?” He asks.
“Thank you, but I already have a drink.” You say raising up your cup.
“Well how about I get you a new one.” He says.
“I’m good, thank you though.”
“Oh, c’mon,” he says, grabbing your hand and pulling you with him towards the drinks. You’ve completely forgotten Steve was still standing there until he grips onto Billy’s shoulder.
“She doesn’t want a drink, Hargrove,” Steve says. Billy just shoves Steve’s hand off his shoulder and keeps pulling you to the drinks. You look back at Steve and mouth “I’ll be fine.” He doesn’t look convinced. He eventually goes back to the dance floor to find Nancy.
Billy takes your cup from your hand and throws it in the trash. He finds two shot glasses and places them down, pouring fireball into them.
“Alright come on princess, just do one shot for me.” Billy says. You weren’t one to do shots, but you figured why the hell not. You did one shot. Billy filled the shot glass right back up once you were done, almost challenging you to do another one. Once he fills up yours, he grabs his and tosses it back. You take another one, and then another, and then another.  You were about to do another one but were interrupted but a commotion in the kitchen. Steve and Nancy are playing tug of war with a plastic cup.
“Nancy you’ve had enough.” Steve says.
“No, Steve.” Nancy argues back.
“Nance, seriously.” Steve says. The drink spills out of the cup and onto Nancy’s shirt. Your vision starts to get fuzzy, but you can see Nancy go to the bathroom and Steve running after her.
Your head starts spinning as you can feel the alcohol getting into your system. “I-I-I need to go find Robin.” You say to no one in particular as you make your way to the living room. You take a couple of steps only to realize how drunk you actually are and stumble into the wall.
“Robinnnn! Robin!” You sing out. You take another couple steps before your legs give out on you. You start to fall but someone wraps their arms around your waist and catches you.
“Woah, woah, woah, Henderson. How much have you had to drink?” Your vision is too blurry, and you can’t make out the face. Whoever it is stands you up straight and lets go of your waist. You start to sway, you feel the hands wrap around your waist again
“Jesus Christ, I’m taking you home.”
“Jonathan?” You ask.
“No, it’s Steve.” Steve? Oh no. Why does he always have to be such a knight in shining fucking armor?
He grabs your arm and puts it around your shoulder and puts his arm around your waist. Once you make it outside, Steve sets you down on the porch swing.
“Y/n, hey y/n, can you look at me for a second?”
“I can’t keep my head up,” You say, giggling, while you try to keep your head from bobbling all over. Steve sighs and tells you he’s going to go talk to Jonathan. You try to lay down on the porch swing but end up just rolling off, landing on the ground with a thud. You start giggling.
“Henderson, are you kidding me?” Steve returns.
“I just rolled off, I’m sorry.” You say in between giggles. Steve helps you up and you guys make your way to his car. Steve helps you get into the car, reaching over to get you buckled up.
“Uh oh, Stevie, I can’t go home drunk,” You say.
“I know that, I’m taking you to my house.” He says. This makes your heart pound. You looked over at him, even though you were incredibly drunk, you could see sadness in his eyes.
“What’s wrong Stevie?” You ask.
“Nothing, it’s nothing.” He says.
*  *   *
Once you get to his house he helps you upstairs. He grabs some sweatpants and a t-shirt from his closet. You start to get undressed.
“Woah!” Steve says quickly turning around. “I’m going to go get some makeup wipes from my parent’s bathroom. I’ll be back.” He says, closing the door behind him. You get your clothes off and put on the ones Steve gave you. They smell just like him, giving you major butterflies. No wait not butterflies. The alcohol was coming back up. You quickly rushed to Steve’s bathroom and started throwing up. While your head was in the toilet bowl, you felt a presence behind you, rubbing your back. You threw up for what felt like ages but was probably only about 10 minutes. You groaned.
“Never let me do shots again.” You say to Steve, sobering up. Steve chuckled, handing you the cup of water.
“I’m not letting you go to sleep until you drink at least two cups of water.” He says sternly. You put the cup down and reach your hands up to him. He grabs them and helps you up. He hands you a makeup wipe. You take it and sloppily rub it over your face, still not being sober enough to fully know what you’re doing.
“Do you want some help?” Steve asks.
“Yes please,” you say, passing him the wipe. He gently rubs the wipe over your face, while holding your chin with his other hand. You can tell your cheeks are bright red.
“There you go,” He says. You smile at him and run towards his bed, getting under the covers. Drunk you will definitely get yelled at by sober you for getting in Steve Harrington’s bed of all things.
“Woah woah woah, we had a deal! No bed until you drink two cups of water.” He says.
“I thought you would have forgotten about that…” You say. He hands you the cup of water. You chug it, then hand it back to him.
“Ok goodnight!” You say, pulling the covers up over your face.
“I believe that was only one glass.” Steve says, while making his way to the bathroom to fill up the cup with more water. He hands the cup to you and starts pulling blankets out from his closet.
“What are you doing?” You ask.
“Making my bed.” He responds.
“I can’t let you sleep on the floor, there’s plenty of room in your bed for the both of us,” What the hell were you saying? There must still be a lot of alcohol in your system,
“You’re drunk Henderson, sober y/n would not like waking up in bed with me,” Steve says. You silently agree and get back under the covers. Steve walks over to the light switch.
“Night Henderson.”
“Night Stevie.”
*  *   *
You wake up with a pounding headache. You groan and open your eyes. You look around, alarmed that you weren’t at your own house. Where the fuck am I? You look down at the ground to see Steve sleeping there.
What the fuck were you doing at Steve Harrington’s house?!

What is the colour of your hairbrush? Mostly black, with a green ring on it.
Name a food you never eat: I have quite a few foods I can’t eat anymore thanks to some random health issues I developed a few years back (friends, aging is great from a mental/emotional perspective, Not Great from a physical perspective) but in terms of voluntary stuff, green peppers. I’ve outgrown a lot of my childhood food dislikes but that one is in my SOUL.
Are you typically too warm or too cold? Too cold, definitely.
What were you doing 45 minutes ago? I was in a boring meeting!
What’s your favourite candy bar?  Probably Snickers? I really like 100 Grand too, though. And Butterfinger. And Twix. And I want Claire Saffitz to make all of them for me.
Have you ever been to a professional sports game? I’ve been going to Major League baseball games since I was a kid (it was my dad’s favorite sport), and the past few years, I’ve been to 20-30 games a season. I usually go for my birthday, too, which is in a couple of weeks, and it’s just kinda sinking in that there will be no birthday baseball for me this year. :(
What was the last thing you said out loud? Just saying hi to my husband.
What is your favourite ice cream? Coffee Heath Bar Crunch. I can’t have caffeine anymore so this summer I’m gonna try to make a decaf version for myself. (WHY IS ALMOST ALL COFFEE ICE CREAM CAFFEINATED. There are so many reasons people can’t have caffeine! Sigh.)
What was the last thing you had to drink? Water!
Do you like your wallet? Sure? It’s a nice blue and it holds my stuff.
What was the last thing you ate? Fruit and Greek yogurt for breakfast.
Did you buy any new clothes last weekend? I didn’t! I actually ordered a couple of soft bras from TomboyX on Monday, but nothing on the weekend.
What’s the last sporting event you watched? A replay of an old Mariners game a couple of nights ago. If we’re talking live sports, I watched about half of a Korean baseball league game a few nights back, which was delightful.
What is your favourite flavour of popcorn? Butter!
Who is the last person you sent a text message to? @ajoblotofjunk
Ever go camping? Not in a long time. My husband has been getting the urge to go lately, though, so maybe we will!
Do you take vitamins? I take supplements due to the aforementioned health issues. And vitamin B.
Do you go to church every Sunday? Lol no. My mother is very Catholic and she brought us to 6 am Mass every weekday when I was a kid. It was well-intentioned (her dad had a pretty volatile temperament and she always felt safe at church, so she subconsciously wanted us to feel the same way) but it did not sell me on the experience! Heh.
Do you have a tan? I live in the Seattle area and it’s May, so... lol no. I’m also pretty pale so I don’t get that tan anyway, but. I usually get a little something going in the summer, enough to have tan lines anyway.
Do you prefer Chinese food or pizza? Tough call, but I’m going with pizza.
Do you drink your soda through a straw? I don’t drink soda anymore (though I drink a LOT of carbonated water), but I’ll drink my drink through a straw if I get it at a fast-food place. Otherwise I don’t usually use one.
What colour socks do you usually wear? Most of my winter socks for work are black. Otherwise it’s a pretty random selection of colors.
Do you ever drive above the speed limit? Sure. Usually 5-10 miles over, rarely more (or less) than that.
What terrifies you? Climate change. Global pandemics. You know. Just generally suffering (both mine and other people’s).
Look to your left. What do you see? Through window of the room I’m sitting in: my neighbors’ house, and a cherry tree in their yard.
What chore do you hate most? Cleaning the bathrooms.
What do you think of when you hear an Australian accent? The hot Australian woman who’s been on Gold Rush recently, or a dear fannish friend of mine I haven’t talked to in years who is actually from New Zealand and I KNOW IT’S VERY DIFFERENT but it’s close enough to make me think of her!
What’s your favourite soda? I used to drink a lot of Diet Mountain Dew. I really miss ginger beer, too. I love a good spicy ginger beer. Root beer too.
Do you go in a fast food place or just hit the drive-thru? Drive-thru all the way. Isn’t that part of the advantage of fast food?
What’s your favourite number? I don’t really have one!
Who’s the last person you talked to? My husband!
Favourite cut of beef? Boneless ribeye. I finally bought a propane grill a couple of years back and I have now learned to make a badass steak, if I say so myself.
Last song you listened to? Eve 6 - Inside Out. A few months ago I suddenly remembered that this song existed and so I bought it and now I have to listen to it at least twice every time it comes up, ha.
Last book you read? An as-yet-unpublished Rose Lerner novel, because I am very lucky! (It’s a wlw Gothic. SUCH A GOOD CONCEPT.)
Favourite day of the week? Saturday
Can you say the alphabet backwards? In this economy??? Idk, I could probably figure it out, but it would definitely be work.
How do you like your coffee? I love a caramel macchiato, especially iced so you get those weird globules of caramel coming up through the straw. But a nonfat decaf double latte with a little bit of some kind of syrup is my go-to these days--hot when it’s cold out, iced when it’s warm out.
Favourite pair of shoes? I have these 40s-ish heels that tie over your instep with a little bow and I love them. I also have some extremely cool red velvet with black cording peep-toe Louboutins that I bought off some discount site years ago, except I can’t wear them for long because they’re about a half size too small. But they’re SO PRETTY.
Time you normally get up? In isolation, I’m discovering that my natural sleep schedule is about 2 am - 10 am. But I have a daily meeting at 9:30, and I try to get my workout done before that, so I get up at 8-8:30ish. I am discovering through this meme that SO MANY of you are morning people! What is that like???
Sunrises or sunsets? I love sunrises but I am not remotely a morning person, so. I see a lot more sunsets, and I love them too!
How many blankets are on your bed? Just one duvet.
Describe your kitchen plates. We have some with blue perimeters and kind of a white/oatmeal middle that we inherited from my in-laws, and the ones we actually bought on purpose are white on top and either sage-y green or charcoal black on the bottom.
Describe your kitchen at the moment. Somewhat messy, or at least there are dishes to do. I made some pretty epic cauliflower mushroom risotto with shrimp last night, though, so it was for a good cause.
Do you have a favourite alcoholic drink? Perfect Manhattans with rye are my go-to, or a Quebecois, which is basically a perfect Manhattan with a little bit of maraschino liqueur added (and ideally a lemon twist, though we’re usually too lazy for those). In the summer, I’m getting really into gin these days: either gin and tonic, gin and some kind of citrus spiked seltzer, or a Last Word. I also really love a good craft beer, and sparkling wine too.
Do you play cards? Not really. We used to play a shit ton of gin rummy in high school, but I haven’t really played cards much since.
What colour is your car? Blue!
Do you know how to change a tire? Theoretically yes, though the one time I actually tried to do it myself, I had a hell of a time getting the lug nuts off. I was fortunately in my driveway at the time (good place for a flat tire!) and my neighbors kept coming by and offering to help, and I was like NO I WANNA DO IT. I think I did need help eventually, though. Stupid pneumatic tools at tire installation places!
Your favourite state? That rare, usually-brief phase of writing where everything seems to fit and flow and you’re a genius and you understand all the secrets of the cosmos. Also Washington.
Favourite job you’ve had? My current one. It’s not my dream job, but it pays well and I like my team and I get to learn new stuff fairly often and I can work from home in the midst of all this, so. I am very lucky!
How did you get your biggest scar? The summer after my freshman year of college, I was part of a summer stock theatre troupe, and we performed half the summer at my college, and half the summer in a very small town in eastern Oregon that had an outdoor stage. One of my entrances involved running over the grass to get to the stage, and one night the grass was wet, and my costume involved ballet slippers, and I slipped and fell onto the stage stairs in front of the whole audience. It hurt SO MUCH that I got very light-headed onstage while I was trying to get through the scene, lol. Anyway, my costume also involved harem pants that had elastic around the calf/ankle area, and I got a friction burn from those, which ended up scarring because the skin over your shins is very thin! (I also got a few massive bruises on my leg that didn’t go away for weeks, so eventually my mom nagged me into going to the doctor, who promptly started gently hinting to see if my boyfriend at the time was responsible for the injuries. Which was actually pretty cool of the doctor! But then I was like, lol no, trust me, a hundred people saw me bite it, this is 100% dumbass mistake.) And that’s my scar story.
Tagging, if you want to do it: @ajoblotofjunk, @snowymary, @halcyon-red, @it-may-be-dull-but-im-determined, @unadulteratedkr, and anyone else who feels like doing this!

Chapter 9
Logan woke up before his alarm went off, deciding to just get up and shower. He’d gotten fitful sleep anyway and knew that even trying to get a few more minutes would be futile.
Knowing that today was School Color day, he examined his closet for longer than usual. There wasn’t much he owned that was red, other than a pair of jeans he’d gotten as a gift from Preston.
With a sigh, he put them on. They were tighter than what he normally wore, but that was the price he was going to pay for school spirit.
He threw on a white button up before grabbing some red and white sneakers that had also been a gift.
Convenient.
As soon as Preston and Thomas saw him, they broke out into grins.
“I knew you’d wear those someday.” Preston gestured to the jeans. “It wouldn’t kill you to show off that Sanders ass more often.”
“Dad!”
“Preston.”
“What? It’s part of the reason I fell for you.”
Thomas rolled his eyes as Preston pressed a kiss to his cheek. “You’re lucky I love you.”
“Love you too, Tommy.”
“Lo, you want Crofter’s on your - why am I even asking.” Thomas nodded to the fridge, taking the jar of jam from Preston.
Logan took the jar from Thomas. “Thank you, but I’ll make my own breakfast.”
“Is this because I don’t put enough jam on your toast?” Thomas teased.
Logan pretended not to hear him as he prepared his breakfast before heading out to the car.
As soon as Logan stepped foot on school grounds, he couldn’t help but smile. Nearly everyone in the vicinity was covered in red and white. Glancing around, Logan saw Virgil and Patton heading into the school. Virgil had swapped out his usual hoodie for a red one and his black jeans for white. Patton had on one of the male cheer uniforms, a large G emblazoned on the chest.
After dumping his books at his locker, Logan headed straight for his English class.
And proceeded to short circuit in the doorway.
How could he have forgotten that the sports teams wore their uniforms on Spirit Day?
The jersey Roman wore showed off the muscles in his arms. His pants were rolled to the knee, showing off one red sock and one white one. The socks clung to his calf muscles, no doubt gained from his many games of catching.
The two of them locked eyes as Logan managed to start moving again. Roman had smeared what appeared to be red and white paint under his eyes.
“Logan! Perfect, sit down.”
Doing as he was told, Logan froze as Roman reached out and started smearing some of the paint under his own eyes. The gentle touch was making his heart race.
“What -”
“Relax, Lo. It’s meant for your face, it’s called warrior paint.” Roman leaned in close, his breath fanning across Logan’s cheek as he observed his work.
Closing the gap here would not be beneficial.
“Alright, I know we’re not going to get much done today, so I’ll just give you a free period to work on your projects, even though I know most of you will just talk anyway.” Mx. Stokes said, before they pulled out a box. “And if anyone wants some beads to complete their school spirit look, have at it.”
Roman practically vaulted over the desks to get to the box, grabbing four sets of beads. When he came back, he draped two of them over Logan.
“Now you look like you have school spirit.” He flashed Logan a smile.
Blood rushed to Logan’s cheeks. “So...were you going to talk to anyone or did you want to work on our project?”
“Actually I drew up some ideas for costumes!”
Logan barely noticed how fast the class went by, content to listen to Roman excitedly babble about the costume ideas and their symbolism. When the bell rang, Logan jumped out of his seat, making Roman laugh.
“See you at the pep rally!” Roman called before he darted off to his next class.
The day went by in a blur, Logan opting to simply do homework instead of chat with Virgil. His purple-haired classmate didn’t seem to mind, putting on some music instead.
A high pitched squeal crackled over the PA system. “Seniors may be excused and make their way down to the gym.”
A few of their classmates headed out, Logan and Virgil packing up their things. Everyone was required to leave their backpacks in their final class, and pick them up before going home.
Not more than five minutes later, the PA system squealed again. “Juniors may be excused.”
Virgil and Logan headed out together. As they walked in, Logan wasn’t sure where he was going to sit, but Virgil pulled him over to where Patton was sitting with Remy and Emile. He noticed Roman sit a couple rows ahead with the baseball team.
Logan wasn’t really listening as they went through the opening spiel of the pep rally. It was pretty much a rundown of all the scores so far - the seniors were winning - and the times of the game, the parade, and the dance. All stuff Logan had heard, since he actually paid a bit of attention to the school calendar.
What he did notice was Roman and several other students getting up and moving down to a reserved portion of the bleachers.
“What’s going on?”
“Too busy staring, huh?” Remy asked from the end of the row, waggling his eyebrows.
Logan flushed, turning to Virgil instead.
“Dodgeball, just like every other year.”
“Ah,” Logan adjusted his glasses, watching as the freshman were unfairly pitted against the seniors. “My apologies, I usually sneak in a book and read at the top.”
“So you’re paying attention now because…” Virgil trailed off, a teasing grin on his face.
Patton poked him in the shoulder. “V, don’t be mean!”
“He’s not, you have my word.” Logan leaned forward to see around Virgil. “Congrats on the homecoming date though.”
“Thanks! Virge told me about your issue and I think if you have the guts to go for it, you should give him the letter.” A friendly smile graced Patton’s face.
Logan nodded, hearing the whistle to start the game. Everyone’s attention shifted, watching as the freshman were knocked out in a mere two minutes. Once they returned to their seats, the seniors sat down, watching the sophomores and juniors get into position.
Roman looked up into the stands, met Logan’s eyes, and flashed a grin. Logan’s heart pounded as he smiled back, but Roman had looked back to the game.
He was probably smiling at someone else.
“Did you see that?” Patton whispered. “He smiled at you!”
“No, it wasn’t -”
Virgil held up a hand. “It was totally for you.”
Blood returned to Logan’s cheeks. The whistle blew once more and he watched as Roman nearly single-handedly took out the sophomores, assisted by one or two more teammates.
“Dang, he’s good.”
“He said sometimes he pitches.” Logan replied without thinking.
“How do you know that, Lo?”
Logan turned, face flaming as he got various degrees of smirks from his friends. “He may have stayed for dinner a few times because of our project.”
Patton and Emile both clapped their hands over their mouths to suppress their squealing. Remy’s smirk vanished as he gave Emile a loving gaze, but Virgil kept his eyes on Logan.
“Dude. He at least likes you as a friend, or he would never have stayed.”
A sharp blow of the whistle had them turning back to the floor. At some point, the seniors had set up where the sophomores had vacated. The two teams were now going after each other with a vengeance. The seniors to defend their title, and the juniors to finally shove them out of the number one spot.
It came down to Roman and a senior named Steve. He was a linebacker on the football team, and built like a brick.
Steve fired a ball at Roman.
The crowd gasped as it popped out of Roman’s hands.
Roman dove for it, barely catching it before it hit the ground.
The juniors went nuts, cheering wildly. Steve headed back to the football team, high-fiving along the way.
Roman ran back into the crowd, breathing heavily. Again, he shot a grin to where Logan was sitting.
Logan buried his face in his hands as soon as Roman looked away.
“Ah, yes. The gay meltdown.”
“Remy!”
A squeal from the microphone had all of the students covering their ears. Principal Torres apologized before announcing the next part of the competition.
Solving a Rubik’s cube.
Logan’s name was called for the juniors. He headed down with four other students, clearly picked because they were the smartest kids in the class.
Smart didn’t always equate to puzzle solving.
“The first one to solve the cube will win one hundred points for their class. The second wins fifty, and the third twenty-five. Each of you will be timed by a randomly selected teacher. Any questions?” She stopped, watching as they all shook their heads. “Three, two, one, GO!”
Logan moved like lightning, blocking everything else out of his head.
“Done!”
He smirked when he realized he was the first to finish by a long shot. The teacher across from him showed his time.
Forty-five seconds.
As soon as two others had finished, the freshman and the senior, they were excused back to their seats.
“Nice job, Lo!” Patton gave him a beaming smile as he sat back down.
Virgil nodded. “I’m pretty sure we’re tied with the seniors now.”
Logan hardly paid attention to the rest of the pep rally, only noticing that the next events were one bounce and tug of war. The seniors must’ve been angry about losing, seeing as how they lost both events.
Which meant…
“In first place this year is our Juniors, with 1,340 points!”
The junior class went wild, cheering and screaming. Principal Torres quickly quieted everyone down, gave a rundown of the parade and game times for later that night, and then excused everyone.
Logan traced the paper in his pocket as he darted down the steps, trying to reach Roman. He’d give him the note and Roman could text him his answer.
The universe must’ve hated him, because Roman was swept away by his friends before Logan even made it to the gym floor.
A hand on his shoulder had him turning around. Emile and Patton were looking at him with twin expressions of sadness, while Remy looked a little peeved. Virgil squeezed his shoulder.
“I’m sorry, Lo. You could always give it to him at the game?”
Logan shook his head. “It’s too late anyway. I can’t even get a ticket now.”
“Actually…” Emile pulled a ticket out of his pocket. “I have an extra. I bought one before Rem asked me.”
Logan took it. “Thank you, but I don’t have anyone to go with.”
“Come with us!” Patton bounced on his toes. “We’re all going together and then having a sleepover at Remy’s house!”
Seeing Logan’s expression, Virgil added, “Or we can drop you back off at your place. And you don’t have to come with us, it’s just an option.”
“I...I think I’d like that.” Logan felt a sudden warmth in his chest. “I’ll see you guys tomorrow.”
