I’m Sorry I Wasn’t Enough
Neteyam x reader
Tumblr media
Pairing: Neteyam Sully x Reader Mate
Warnings: Mentions of Arranged Marriage, violence, blood.
Summary: A year after your marriage you are looking back on things, more specifically your non existent relationship with your mate. When something happens and you’re in danger how will Neteyam react? Oh and you’re injured?
****************************************************
Today marked the one year anniversary of your bonding ceremony to the future oleykten of the omatikaya. One year and one month since your life had changed forever
Neteyam te Sully, son of Toruk Makto… your husband. You remember it like it was yesterday..
The war with the sky people had gotten increasingly difficult, Toruk makto had been meeting with your Grandfather to discuss a potential alliance between the clans to aid in the fight against the sky people.
It was a shock to all when your Grandfather said they would only help if there was a blood alliance. Meaning you, the sole heir were to be married to Neteyam, there clans heir.
It was a smart move for all parties involved on paper. A decision that would strengthen everyone, combining resources, combining armies, combining… well everything. But happiness for everyone else unfortunately meant the sacrifice for you and Neteyam.
Toruk Makto had asked you many times if you were alright with it, to which you politely said you were ready to do anything to aid the cause against the sky people.
It’s not like you could have said anything else.
Your parents were not alive to defend you, your grandfather was a good leader but couldn’t care less about your happiness. “Good leaders need to make sacrifices for the people.”
Neteyam understood the same thing. He also wanted nothing more than to prove himself.
So you both agreed without so much as having more than one conversation together.
Within a few days you had packed all your belongings and were mounting an Ikran. Your new life awaited you.
A month later you were mated before Eywa to Neteyam. Bonded in every way except the heart.
Neteyam wasn’t cruel no but he was… serious. The heavy burden of war on his responsible shoulders. He was civil with you. Spoke when nessesary to you but other than that… you barely ever saw him.
His days were either filled with preparing for raids or the raids himself and he would enter your home pod late when you were asleep and leave at first light.
The only time you ever felt any sort of emotion from him was during your first and only mating bond. Connecting your queues forced emotion to flow through the both of you, and he had been gentle and caring. But you realized soon after that that was a one time occurrence and that warmth was not a thing your mate was capable of.
Well at least not with you. He was caring with his family, you’d watched him interact with them from afar. He was careful not to show this side of him to many but you did manage to see it several times before he noticed you were there, then he’d swiftly mask his face.
You really didn’t understand his coldness. You were mated for life shouldn’t you both make an effort to at least be friends?
You tried to be someone he would proud to call his mate. You helped around the village, especially with the wounded, you made sure not to fight with anyone and keep a cool head. You did everything you could but he never saw you.. never saw your efforts.. even though you saw his.
Over the year you watched your mate. You grew to admire his strength and character. Perhaps that is why it hurt so much. You had feelings for a man who barely acknowledged your existence.
You let out a deep sigh. The trees of the forest were the only ever witnesses to your sorrow. You adjusted your net covering around you. It was getting colder, your old home never reached cool temperatures so you were not prepared for it.
You really didn’t have friends save for Neteyams siblings. And even there you didn’t spend that much time with them seeing how much trouble they liked to get into. You didn’t want to risk upsetting your mate.
You would admit that you were lonely however. When you weren’t needed in the village you spent your time exploring the never ending forest that was your home. You weren’t raised in one so you were always venturing out and exploring.
Today however due to your more than usual sadness, what with it being your anniversary and all you had walked further than you intended.
You paused your steps hearing several voices up ahead, what were Navi doing all the way out here?
You slowly crept closer to the sounds but made sure to stay hidden behind the trees.
Your eyes widened when you caught sight of the Navi- no Avatars that were clad in military gear and holding AR’s.
You carefully moved backwards until you were out of earshot.
You knew you had to tell your mate. They were clearly dangerous.
You felt for the weird contraption around your neck, you never had to use it before. You pressed down on it,
“N-neteyam?” You spoke shakily.
A few seconds passed before you heard a click. “Y/n…? Is that you?”
You could hear the slight confusion in his voice. At least he recognized you.
“Y-yes um, I’m out in the forest and there’s these Avatars… but they don’t look normal, they are dressed in camo and are holding AR’s…”
“What’s you pos?”
“W-what?” You furrowed your brows.
“Your position, where are you right now?” He spoke a bit more sternly.
“I’m-“
Wait where were you?
“Y/n?”
“I’m not sure but they were standing in front of an old worn down building..like a shack… something from the sky people I think..”
You could hear an intake of breath, “Y/n listen to me carefully, you’re going to get out of there without making a sound ok? Get back here immediately.”
You nodded before realizing he couldn’t see you, “ok I’m coming” you released the button and started to run as quietly as you could back the way you came.
Adrenaline coursed through you, you looked back several times to ensure you weren’t being followed.
You stopped to catch your breath, hopefully this was far enough-
“Ah!” You cried out falling backwards seeing a fresh bullet lodged in the now smoking tree beside you.
You quickly regained your footing and started barreling forward.
A round of explosive pops rang from behind you, debris grazing your back.
Oh Great Mother help me!
You cried out as another bullet whizzed right by your ear causing you to lose balance.
You heard shouts but they spoke in a language unknown to you.
You moved to get up when suddenly your queue was yanked back forcefully.
You hissed at your abuser, but he only smiled. Again he spoke in a language you didn’t understand.
“L-Let me go!” You tried clawing at his hand but he only yanked harder causing your vision to go white in seering pain.
Was he going to kill you? You wish you could at least understand what he was shouting at you.
He used your queue to turn you harshly around. You hissed again now able to fully see your attacker.
He only rolled his eyes said something that again failed your understanding and swiftly backhanded you into the dirt.
While you lay on the ground in pain he held a hand to his ear saying something into his comm.
You had to do something, he was going to kill you or take you back to the others…
Your eyes perked up seeing something glinting strapped to his boot.
You figured it was best to attack while he was distracted…
I guess it’s now or never,
You swiftly grabbed the knife and plunged it into his stomach.
“Gah! You bitch!”
You didn’t stick around to see his reaction, you were already darting away. You heard the cocking of his gun and immediately started weaving through trees.
*POP* *POP* *POP*
It was a miracle you avoided all the bullets.
You made the mistake of looking back for a split second and found yourself tumbling over a root.
You gasped and tried to right yourself but he was already there pointing his gun.
Your eyes met his murderous ones and you knew this was it.
You let out one more frightened hiss and watched his finger start to pull.
*POP POP*
You couldn’t help the cry that left your mouth but- why weren’t you in pain?
“Y/N move!” Suddenly an arm was yanking you up onto your feet.
“N-neteyam!?” You couldn’t believe your eyes. He was about to speak when moments later more gunshots rang out. You gasped seeing more avatars emerging from the trees.
“Neteyam get her out of here! Move!” Jake jumped in front of you both and motioned for you to run. A few Navi warriors aiding him shooting their own weapons.
Neteyam pulled you through the trees at record speed, he quickly pulled you onto his Ikran before mounting it himself behind you and flying away. His eyes scanning the trees to make sure no one was aiming anything at them.
“Are you injured?” He asked in that raw tone he used in the middle of battle. Serious and to the point.
You shook your head, not trusting your voice not to crack. That was the last thing you wanted to do was cry in front of him.
He sighed before adjusting his reins. His silence was like poison. Slowly seeping into you making you feel ten times worse then when you were just under that guys gun.
You were breathing heavily when he landed the ikran on the mountain ledge.
He dismounted first then held out his hand, you let him help you down thanking Eywa that your legs didn’t give out on you in front of the entire village who were currently staring.
“Neteyam!” Tuk ran up and hugged your mate tightly.
The silly siblings all ran up to you guys asking what happened.
“Are you hurt sister?” Kiri eyed you up and down wearily.
“I’m alright, don’t worry…”
“Y/n!” Tuk was quick to switch to you and you embraced her warmly wanting to ease the fear on her face.
“Everyone is alright Tuk, please don’t cry…” you stroked her back calming her down, or maybe you were using her as a buffer.
You hesitantly glanced up to where Neteyam was speaking to his mother. He looked pissed. Neytiris eyes met your worried ones for a split second, softening slightly before turning back to her son. Her eyes widened in some sort of threat before sighing and coming to you.
“Are you alright daughter?” She placed a hand on your shoulder.
“I’m alright…I’m sorry for all of this I-“ she shushed you quickly.
“Don’t, it’s alright, everyone is alright…” you sighed and nodded to her thankful that she wasn’t upset with you for putting her family in danger.
“Y/n” you sucked in a breath and met your mates eyes. You wanted to let out a whimper at the anger they held.
He motioned for you to follow him. Every step felt like someone had placed a stone in your heart.
He pulled aside the flap of your tent and looked forward waiting for you to enter.
With shakey breaths you ducked under and stepped into your home.
Your fingers pulling at your netted covering as a nervous distraction.
You had seen Neteyam angry countless times before, at warriors who disobeyed orders. At his brother for causing trouble, at anyone who seriously stepped out of line.
You shivered in place now that for the first time that anger was directed at you.
He yanked the flap back down and rounded on you.
“What the hell were you thinking!?” His eyes shooting daggers through you.
“I-I I’m sorry I didn’t mean-“
“Do you know how much danger you’ve put everyone in?! They could’ve followed you back to our village and done who knows what!”
“I never would have-“
“What were you thinking wandering around there!? That areas off limits for a reason!”
“I didn’t know- Neteyam I-!”
“Enough! I don’t want to hear your excuses.” You felt the tears running down your cheeks and it seemed to trigger Neteyam to at least bring his anger down a notch.
He turned around letting out a sigh,
He hated you, that was evident now. He may have hidden his distaste before but now that you had finally angered him his true colors showed.
It only made your tears come faster. The adrenaline finally wearing off, you realized just how scared you had been. Your body ached, craving nothing more than to curl up and rest.
Not to mention an annoying pinching feeling on your abdomen that was getting increasingly more painful. Like a sting from a beertus beetle.
You ignored it focusing on the man before you.
He held a hand up to his neck, you could hear his father speaking on the other side.
They talked for a minute, you released a breath you didn’t know you were holding when you heard that everyone was alright.
Neteyam ended the line and his head turned towards you. He seemed a bit calmer now that he knew everyone was ok.
Your eyes couldn’t handle his glare at the moment so instead they landed on the mat beneath you.
It was quiet for several moments, the air thick with tension.
“You are never to go there or anywhere near that area again understood?” He spoke to you like you were one of his soldiers.
“Understood…” your voice was hoarse but at least it didn’t break.
He nodded before turning to leave and meet with his father to discuss this new threat.
Your heard his footsteps start to fade which meant he was going to leave. Of course he would. Why would he want to stay with someone like you?
Your eyes were still glued to the mat. A beautifully woven mat that was a gift from your Mother in law. It was dyed in beautiful colors.
Huh? Did something spill on it? Your eyebrows furrowed seeing red droplets. Hopefully that wouldn’t stain.. was it juice? You hoped it-
Another drop, forming right before your eyes. You looked up at the ceiling, frowning when you didn’t see anything. Then something clicked and you moved your netted cover to the side, you expected to see a cut or deep scrape from your falls. But you felt like a bucket of ice had been dumped on you when you saw it.
Why Great mother? Why were you testing me like this?
You let out a distressed whimper. Your eyes shot to the entrance where your mate had just stepped out of seconds before. You could still hear his footsteps.
You could call to him. He would hear you. But you didn’t. You couldn’t.. your mate already hated you. You would not tell him this and make him even angrier.
You would not tell him you had been shot…
****************************************************
You cursed realizing quickly that that was probably the dumbest mistake you had made. Because moments later you were too dizzy to stand and were sprawled out onto the floor clutching your side.
How could you get help now? Was this how you were going to die? It certainly looked like it..
You thought of your mate. He hated you, maybe it was…. You whimpered at your next thought.
Maybe this was for the better. He would find a new mate and be happy.
Yeah, you could do this for him… why should such a good person be miserable..?
But wait… would this damage his reputation? That he let sky people kill his mate?
Was this actually going to hurt him?
A Navi males reputation was everything. If he couldn’t protect his family who would trust him to protect the people.
No, you couldn’t be selfish. If you died, he would suffer in his position.
For the second time ever you reached up to your neck, fingers slippery from the blood.
“N-neteyam…” was that your voice? It sounded so different…
Would he even answer? He probably thought you were trying to make excuses for what happened. You tried calling out a few more times.
You felt your heart sink at the silence, it looked like he had shut the line off.
As your vision began to blur at the edges you realized that it looked like his reputation was going to suffer after all.
Even though you knew he wasn’t listening you held the button down once more, one final time…
“I’m s-sorry Neteyam.. I really tried to be a w-worthy m-mate.. I’m sorry I couldn’t do b-better mmh, p-pl.. please tell the p-people it was m-my fault not yours…I… I really did love you N-Neteyam, I-i h-hope your next mate will make you happy-“
Your fingers slipped from exhaustion and your vision failed you completely.
Goodbye my Neteyam…
****************************************************
Neteyam had never moved so fast in all his life.…
Ooooh a cliffhanger hehehe, also is anyone actually reading this? Should I do a part 2👀❤️

Pair: Eris x reader; Lucien x reader (platonic)
Word count: 1.191
Warnings: Lucien is only mentioned, unrequited love, fluff, angst, arranged marriage, mentions of pregnancy and virginity
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Once you two were the closest of friends and now you were his wife.
The marriage wasn't terrible, he was a good husband, but your heart belonged to Lucien.
You had been terribly in love with him for as long as you could remember, your heart would often feel like it was about to burst out of your chest. The similarities between Eris and Lucien didn't make it any easier.
"Have you thought of any names yet?" you asked softly, struggling to zip your dress.
Eris approached, offering his assistance, his upper body bare and sweaty.
Multiple freckles adorned his exercise-hardened body, stretching across his skin.
He looked too good; you shouldn’t be drawn to him. Your heart belongs to his brother. You cursed yourself for thinking about Lucien while drooling over Eris.
Yet, those shoulders, those full lips, and seeing him sometimes in uniform made you feel delirious.
He appeared composed, unlike you, showing no signs of breathlessness after everything you did.
He smirked as if he knew what you'd been thinking.
"What?" you asked.
Eris smiled warmly, remarking, "Considering you're eyeing me, like my brothers do with Mother's strawberry cake, I think I look good."
You laughed.
"You look horrible," you blurted out. "Your ego shouldn't become bigger."
Eris only chuckled finally securing the zipper.
You turned around, looking up at him. His russet eyes were filled with love and a dazzling smile stretched across his face. He seemed happy you noted.
"Stop smiling," you demanded.
"I'm not responsible for what my face does when you talk," Eris replied with a grin.
His hands sought your waist, drawing you close, chest to chest.
"I think we've had enough for today," you interjected, placing your hands between you two, creating a small distance. He merely laughed, nuzzling his head into your neck, inhaling your scent.
"We are now husband and wife, don't be shy now, there is nothing wrong with me hugging you. Hugging my wife," he said. You playfully hit him.
"I've picked some names. I just hope you like them," he said, his voice slightly muffled.
He kept running his nose along your neck, making you shiver and softly laugh.
Running your hands through his soft hair, you felt him shudder in response, a quiet sigh escaping his lips.
He fought the urge to confess.
I am in love with you. I've been in love with you since forever.
Pulling his face from your neck, he gazed into your eyes. His right hand slowly rose to tenderly caress your cheek before he kissed your forehead.
Guilt consumed you, weighing heavily on your conscience for entertaining thoughts of his brother while fully aware of Eris's feelings for you.
He wasn't subtle in his behavior around you, he looked out for you, even as you were foolishly in love with Lucien, who already had a mate and had been courting her.
Perhaps Eris was meant to be your mate, perhaps the bond would snap while being with him. Either way, you couldn't abandon him, you owed him your loyalty, as he deserved it.
"You're cute," he chuckled, watching your face scrunch up in an adorable manner.
"What?" you asked, puzzled.
"I said you look stupid," he snickered mischievously.
"Eris! How dare you!" you exclaimed, mouth agape at his audacity.
He laughed out loud as you attempted to wriggle out of his hug.
While watching you, doubts slowly began to surface. Although you were now officially his wife, he knew you were still in love with Lucien.
He desired to win you over, a goal he'd set since your first meeting.
He remembered it, clear as day.
He was mean to you and despite being the high lord's son, you had fearlessly insulted him, causing Lucien to burst into laughter and your own parents to scold you.
Now years later, you were attempting to conceive a child because Beron desired it.
He believed that your power would be a valuable addition to the blood line, so the marriage was arranged.
You bid farewell to your friends and family, knowing that you couldn't see them as often as before. You had taken on new responsibilities .
Raised in a wealthy and affluent family, you were perceived as family-oriented, educated, and poised in Beron’s eyes, despite the fact that your siblings might beg to differ.
In his eyes, you were a precious pearl, untainted and pure.
The sight of your bloodied sheets on the wedding night confirmed to him that you were a virgin, worthy of his son and as the princess of his court.
To you it was a dumb tradition that needed to disappear, a rule discriminating against females. It held power over them while men faced no such restrictions.
Despite being over 300 years old, you had never been intimate with anyone. Eris was surprised, he had expected the opposite.
Nevertheless, he was deeply in love with you, unable to imagine life without you - he would have taken you regardless. Still the mere thought of someone else being with you filled him with raging jealousy.
You upheld that tradition yourself, not only due to your families pressure but also out of a lack of interest in giving yourself to someone, only to potentially regret it later; at least with a husband, you reasoned, he would be bound to you.
It didn't mean that you were inexperienced or unaware of what needed to be done and how to do it, you weren't naive.
Marrying Eris and having a child with him would secure your family's high status, even though your father strongly opposed the union. Your father had different plans, and a marriage to the heir of the court wasn't part of them.
You and Eris each reassured your father and mother that you would be protected.
He himself promised you, to save you from the same fate as his mothers.
Your wedding was a grand affair, with a significant amount of money spent and all your loved ones in attendance, except for Lucien.
He couldn't risk his life by attending but sent a heartfelt letter wishing you happiness and asking you to inform him if Eris ever wronged you.
As wedding presents he sent you a beautiful blue dress, reminiscent of the night sky, a solar system from the Dawn Court, along with books from the Day Court.
The sweetness of his gestures moved you to tears, deepening your love for him and making you feel ugly as you were now married to Eris.
Eris, always protective of you, became even more obsessed and vigilant after the wedding. He was somewhat relieved that Lucien couldn't attend, despite missing his brother dearly. Eris feared that your love for Lucien might grow stronger, causing you to lose any affection for him.
But that’s not the only thing he had been worrying about.
Unbeknownst to you, he secretly has been using a forbidden tonic to reduce his fertility.
You having a child would jeopardize his plans, it would put you in harms way if anything were to go wrong.
And he wanted to win your heart over before burdening you with a child.

๑彡 title is taken from stray kids’ mixtape: on track (whose lyrics fit with the ‘other side’ of this story, albeit i would never write it).
People always say Choi Seungcheol would make a perfect husband.
They would constantly say how lucky his future spouse would be to have him as their other half.
And, really, how could they not? Choi Seungcheol was flawless in their eyes: someone who was wise, witty, and well-mannered in every which way.
Every time a variation of such comments were uttered to him directly, Seungcheol could only express his appreciation. After all, it would not be appropriate to disagree to a compliment — even if he personally begged to differ.
Choi Seungcheol, no matter how hard others try to engrave it in his brain, just could not see himself like they do. Aside from despising the bitter aftertaste of narcissism, it was something he found difficult to wrap his head around.
He knew no one could be perfect: not in everything — not even in anything. Approaching near perfection seemed impossible, too, since improvements could not really be maxed out. There were always upgrades to be made, may they be in someone or something.
And Seungcheol knew he was no exception.
However, a part of him still dared to hope that he was one; a part of him still hoped that he was perfect — or close to, at least. Then, perhaps, he would finally be worthy of owning your heart.
You were someone who had always been by Seungcheol’s side — as he was with you — ever since you two were children. While he gradually saw himself develop romantic feelings for you over the years, he was also there to witness you gradually fall for someone else. And, likewise, he was there to watch the heartbreak you suffered upon finding out that your love was set to marry someone else.
Seungcheol, albeit he was pained whenever he heard you talk about your love and whenever he had the misfortune to see you both together, never once wished for you two to separate. He found no joy in seeing your heart break into a thousand pieces. As his love, he could never curse you with a suffering much greater in magnitude than his own.
It was even safer to say that he would have preferred to shoulder all the pain of not being loved enough in return if it meant you never had to experience such heartbreak.
But, of course, he was not particularly the universe’s favorite — and so were you.
When the condition of your succession to your father’s seat came to light, Seungcheol was notably your only choice. The actual owner of your heart had long been away and unavailable before marriage even became a question for you and you were really not in the right headspace to try and seek a potential husband within a stranger. Thus, despite not being your first choice, he had become your only one.
You were the one to ask for his hand. To ease his uncertainty, your question came with a promise you knew he would not refuse. "I cannot promise that I will give you my heart, but I swear I will not let anyone else stand by my side other than you."
You had known for a while that Seungcheol was in love with you. After all, while everyone told him what a perfect husband he would make, they also congratulated you for capturing his heart. You never acted upon such knowledge nor did you do anything to acknowledge it, though. At least, not until—
Choi Seungcheol ultimately accepted. Yes, it hurt when you explicitly told him you could not promise him your heart, but your offer to reserve the spot next to you as his and his alone was too tempting to pass. He knew, with that kind of opportunity, he would at least have time by his side to convince you how worthy he was of your heart.
He never loved you suffocatingly, even after your wedding. Rather, he settled to continue loving you as he always had: subtly, with small gestures — and occasionally grand ones with a new excuse of "keeping up appearances." With those — and other things — he dared to hope he was winning your heart, even if bit by bit.
In addition to your oath, you also granted Seungcheol the power to ask for divorce — no question asked. He did insist that he would not be needing it, but you still kept it in your contract as a form of a way out for him.
And, really, Seungcheol honestly thought he would not. After all, while you might think you were trapping him, he never thought of it as such.
He did not think he was trapping you, either. At least not until your love reappeared — with no strings attached. No spouse clinging to his arm, no ring on his finger, not even another home faraway to go back to. He could not be bothered to learn what happened to your love’s spouse — mostly because, whatever the circumstance might be, one thing still remained: he was now the only one standing in your way to true happiness.
Choi Seungcheol, despite people’s insistence on how perfect of a husband he would make, found himself at a loss. When he witnessed that your time apart did not even subdued your feelings for another, he had reckoned that his time to attempt to win your heart had come to an end.
"My word still stands, even after I sign the papers." You told him when he came inside your office one day, divorce papers on hand. "I swore no one else would stand by my side other than you and I intend to keep that promise even after our marriage."
He, in all honesty, did not know how to react — much less reply. Your words seemed like it should have ignited the butterflies in his stomach, but it did not. It was not like he felt nothing, either, because he definitely did — he just did not know how to process those feelings.
There was pain, at first. The part of him that reacted negatively to your words wanted to tell you how unfair you were being: uttering those words so carelessly, like they did not mean anything — when they meant so much to him.
Then, there was serenity. Another part of him, one that had long accepted the truth, just wanted to thank you sincerely. You kept your oath all throughout your years together and even allowed him to love you more than he could have from afar. In the greater scheme of things, those should be enough.
Seungcheol shook his head, "I’d rather if you don’t." It made his heart swell upon hearing those words again, but he knew it was best not to expect anything beyond your marriage. Once everything had been finalized, you no longer had any obligations to him — and you should not have to hold onto anything else that pertained to him.
It might have been all in his head, but he could have sworn you were moving slowly on purpose. Truthfully, he was in no rush — nor did he want you to hurry stamping the end of your tie to him. After all, if everything went according to his plan, this was the last time you would see each other.
"You deserved my heart, Choi Seungcheol," you say as you added your signature with your stamp. Not once did you glance at Seungcheol as you uttered those words, so it appeared as though you were talking directly to the document right in front of you instead. "I’m sorry I didn’t give it to you in time."
Your words had weight in them, but he pretended to not feel how heavy they hung in the air. With the divorce papers now decorated with your seal of approval, everything before you handed the envelope back to him was now in the past — even if its contents still needed to be submitted to be processed.
Seungcheol’s role in your life had ended, as did yours in his. The years you had spend next to each other was down to the last minute, officially counting down the seconds until you never see each other again.
"I guess this is a goodbye, then, [first name]." Choi Seungcheol said your name one last time, willing you to give him one final look, as he held the door open on his way out. "Please be happy."
He left you a final memory of him, with a smile that did not quite reach his eyes.
Then, he was gone.
(And, against your will, a tear escaped from your left eye . . . followed by a waterfall.)

Author's Note~ Heya guys! I present to you the 4th part of my fanfic. I'm overwhelmed by the response ❤️ Really Thanks a lot to everyone who had liked the story so far. Something's have started to cook. Hope you look forward to it. Love You All 😘 Here's my first ever story for you guys. As soon as I finish this one, I'll start taking requests maybe! Till then please show your love and support for "LOST".
This one's a filler chapter, so please bear with me.
Tumblr media
Something completely different happened today. A knock at my door woke me up from my 1 hour nap which has unfortunately turned into a 3 hour nap. I stood up from the bed and opened the door only to find my husband standing there and running a hand through his curls. Oh! What a sight! He looks like a Greek God.
"Hey! Did you need something? I'm sorry I fell asleep, also you can come inside"
He thanked me and entered my room, this is completely new. But nonetheless, I had to take a chance. He was looking around the room and the pictures hanging on the walls. His eyes stuck to one picture in particular. A picture captured by Pierre's mom of Isaac, Pierre and myself. It was Halloween and Isaac wanted to be a Vampire and on the other hand Pierre and Me were Romeo and Juliet. He was 6 and I was 4! We did not even know who Romeo and Juliet were! It was because of the elders who had insisted on these costumes! Oh! What I'd give to have those days back.
Tumblr media
"You need something?"
"Ah! No, um actually yes, I have to attend an event with the rest of grid tomorrow. And you have to come with me. So be ready by 7pm tomorrow, will you? Wear something nice. I'll send someone with dresses for you to choose today in the evening. Just pick something from there."
There it is! Like I've mentioned before, he only remembers me when he needs something or needs to go somewhere to show off the world our so called amazing married life. *Scoff* But I'm not mad, at least I'll be able to meet HIM after so many days. The only person who happens to care even a little bit for me. Who always greets me with a beautiful smile on his face. A friend? Nope, he's like an angel for me.
I really hope everyone gets a friend like him!
" *Cough* *cough* You there?"
" Oh yea! I'm sorry, I was a bit distracted. Umm, Why don't you take Julia with you? I'm sure she would love to accompany you and also I'm sure she has several dresses in her wardrobe already. Won't even have to buy a dress last minute"
The look Pierre gave me after I mentioned Julia simply yelled 'ARE YOU CRAZY'. I mean I knew why he wouldn't take Julia, but I just find a different kind of satisfaction by reminding it to him.
"Um, I'll be ready tomorrow. Don't worry. By the way, where's Julia?"
"I sent her home, no need for her to stay here for these two days, either way we'd be busy. It'll only distract us."
Oh well! That was odd! Distract us from what exactly? Sometimes this man leaves no tables unturned to confuse me to no end. Anyways. I know better now than to crack my brain over these things. It's actually useless cause I won't get anymore clear answers from him than this.
"Any specific colour that I need to keep in mind while choosing the dress?"
"Not that I'm aware of, just keep it a bit formal. I'll get going. If Julia calls or comes asking for me, just tell her I've been out for a meeting since morning."
And then he rushed out the door, not before checking our childhood photo once again. Okay! That was highly confusing! I mean why was he avoiding Julia? Or am I reading too much between the lines? No one knows. I better go eat something until then.
But still, I'm a bit lost here.
LOST in confusion.
PS - Please lemme know what do you think about LOST and also let me know if you wanna be added to the tag list ❤️

Lowly Soldier ~ a continuation of Sorrows Can Swim
Ugh, I have such a soft spot for Prince, and I hope y'all do too. Any and all lynch mobs formed will go towards Guard’s residence and not mine, d'you hear me? 😂
Word count: 2.7k
Sorrows Can Swim masterlist
-
A WEEK BEFORE THE WEDDING
In the dead of night, the towering shelves cast long shadows that danced and hid from the light of the few, flickering candles resting in front of Prince on his desk. In this dim lighting, if one tilted their head and relaxed their eyes, they might mistake the library ladder at Prince’s left for a monster.
But no, the monster stood not to Prince’s left, but directly in front of him, shifting in the way only guilty men did.
“I know about your relations with Princess.” Prince didn’t bother glancing around the library or lowering his voice.
Guard didn’t move, but Prince could’ve sworn he paled slightly. “Your Highness, I don’t know–”
“Spare me the act of innocence.” Prince took a deep breath, reining in his anger like an unbroken stallion.
The soldier wisely went silent, leaving the two men to stare at each other for a few moments.
“How long do I have to pack my bags then?” Guard asked, his chin held far too high for the situation.
Prince considered it. It would be so easy to simply send him away. Prince wouldn’t have to go so far as to remove him from the King’s service. Guard could be reassigned to a different fort. Perhaps somewhere south where the high temperatures and heavy rays of sun would cause Guard to sweat like a pig and burn like a roast. The image of Guard in full uniform, wiping at his dripping and sunburnt forehead brought Prince such satisfaction.
Then came the image of Princess’s face when she learned Guard had been sent away.
He sighed, dismissing the image. “You must act swiftly if the two of you are to avoid scandal.”
Confusion colored Guard’s face. “Sir?”
“You must–” Prince’s voice failed him, and he chided it. “You must…marry Princess.”
The soldier gaped at Prince, clearly questioning what he’d just heard. “Your Highness?”
“I won’t repeat myself,” Prince said frigidly. It’d been hard enough to say it in the first place.
Guard stood perfectly still for a while, and Prince impatiently waited for the soldier to get his wits back so they could continue this conversation.
“But…ho-how?” Guard stammered. “She is royalty, and I am but a lowly soldier!”
A lowly soldier, Prince scorned in his head. Guard rose through the ranks faster than most, and he caught the attention of far more than Princess, even if Princess was the only one Prince really cared about.
“We must be crafty.” Prince took a deep breath, sitting down, the plush red velvet sinking underneath him. “I can’t simply promote you, it would look too suspicious. We will organize a way for you to receive an increase in rank. It will–”
Guard started frantically shaking his head, making Prince stop and narrow his eyes. Why was Guard protesting? He got to marry and become honorary royalty. He wouldn’t be king, not while Princess’s older brothers still drew breath, but the rank of a prince was nothing to sneer at.
Perhaps he was simply having a hard time wrapping his mind around it.
“It will take some time, of course,” Prince continued, “which brings its own risk, but if we’re going to do this–”
“But a marriage between us would be improper!” Guard interrupted.
Prince fixed him with a cold, hard stare. “And the impropriety didn’t cross your mind before you stole her virtue?”
“I did not steal her virtue!” Guard snapped. “She’s the one who–”
“I would recommend,” Prince interrupted calmly, “that you don’t waste my time by finishing that sentence.”
Guard shut his mouth, looking quite taken aback as he eyed Prince.
Prince sighed. “It doesn’t matter how things progressed.” The words tasted like vinegar in his mouth, but he pushed on. “What matters is what we must do to protect everyone in this situation, and we will get started at once.”
Guard blinked, bringing a hand to nervously fiddle with the chainmail of his soldier's uniform.
This is it, Prince thought. This is the moment when Guard complies, and we plot for the wedding that will soon follow, a wedding I forced Guard into, a wedding Princess isn’t expecting, and a wedding that will break my heart. It would require all of Prince’s strength to sit through, and it would cost him all his self-respect, but he would do it.
For Princess, he would do it.
But instead of hearing words of agreement, Prince saw a sudden, dangerous gleam in Guard’s eyes. “I’m sorry, You Highness, but I cannot do that.”
Prince simply stared, trying to process what he’d just heard. Was Guard disobeying a direct order? Perhaps he hadn’t understood that Prince’s statement was a command in the first place. “All due respect, this is not a request, Guard.”
Guard’s gleam didn’t dim. “All due respect, sir, but you cannot force me to marry her.” His voice was remarkably calm, as if they were discussing the weather and not the fate of a woman.
For a moment, Prince couldn’t form any words. He could only stare at Guard, wondering how the man could be so cavalier and care so little about Princess’s reputation?
He wanted to toss Guard out the library window, but that wouldn’t save Princess.
Prince clenched onto his self-control, imposingly rising to his feet instead of rushing at Guard in fury. “Do you realize who you are speaking to?” He stepped closer to Guard, holding his posture as tightly as he held his fists. “I am your prince. I can demote you so that you are guarding a kitchen for the rest of your days. I can have you branded as a traitor and exiled. I can have you flung in the dungeon, facing execution in a week.” Prince raised his chin. “It all makes no difference to me.”
The threat in his tone would make most men concede by prostrating themselves in front of him.
“If this kingdom finds out that the Tunican princess had affairs with a lowly soldier, the gossip will spread like wildfire,” Guard said slowly. “And if the Tunician King finds out, it will be war.”
“You would create war for your own country?” Prince seethed.
Guard spread his hands. “This may be the country of my birth, but that doesn’t mean it’s the country of my life.” He pointed at Prince. “That’s your position.”
Prince gaped at Guard.
Had Guard gone mad? All the authority rested with Prince, and yet Guard acted as though he possessed the upper hand!
What pure selfishness.
What audacity.
Prince slammed his hands into the desk, making the candles shake and drip wax down onto the polished wood. “You dare threaten me with war?”
Guard smiled back at Prince. “Do you know what Princess told me last night?”
Prince froze, sensing the wave of pain about to crash over him, an upper hand that was about to be gained. “That is neither here nor–”
Guard stepped closer to Prince, baring his teeth like a child who hadn’t quite mastered the art of the smile. “She told me she loved me.”
A groan of pain nearly ripped through Prince’s throat as the knot of pain coiled tightly in his chest. He blindly fell back onto his chair, trying to relearn how to breathe under the weight of this information.
She…she loved Guard? Truly? It wasn’t merely some youthful dalliance or fleeting fancy?
Prince looked back to Guard with a sharp inhale, realizing too late that he’d given away too much with his silence.
“You love her.” The triumph in Guard’s voice set Prince’s teeth on edge. “You can’t bear to see her in pain, or you would’ve sent me away instead of trying to get me to marry her. If you banished me or imprisoned me, it would only hurt her, and you can’t bear to do that.”
There was no point in denying it. Unlike Guard, Prince was a man strong enough to admit to the truth. So Prince glowered at Guard. “I’m warning you–”
“No, Your Highness.” Guard smirked. “I’m warning you, unless you promise me that you won’t mention this conversation to anyone, I’ll tell the Tunician King about our affair myself.” The satisfied smile widened. “See what happens to your precious princess then.”
“You are a snake,” Prince fumed.
Guard’s only reply was to grin.
“Fine!” Prince burst out. “I promise, now get out of my sight!”
Guard wisely didn’t reply. He simply slipped out the library door, likely off to go sleep soundly in his bed.
Now what? Prince thought desperately.
Princess was not the first royal to be in this compromising situation, but the world would see her as damaged goods if they found out. It didn’t matter if it was a year from now when the truth got out, she would be seen as damaged goods, and whatever husband she possessed would turn his back on her, for no self-respecting husband wouldn’t care if his wife dallied with a soldier. Except for Lord perhaps, but Prince couldn’t subject Princess to marriage with him. His breath smelled fouler than the stables, and he was old enough to be her grandfather.
Whoever married Princess would have to know beforehand.
But who would ever marry her with that knowledge? And even if they didn’t care, Prince would be breaking his promise to Guard, and who knew what the soldier would do?
Prince sat at the desk, his hopes dwindling by the second.
If only status and dignity didn’t matter so much. If only the world could see Princess for her sweetness or even her beauty, and value her for those things instead of whatever station she possessed.
Alas, it seemed the only one who saw Princess’s sweetness and beauty was Prince and Guard, and Guard wouldn’t marry her.
Prince sat bolt upright.
Was that…?
Could it be…?
Prince lifted his hand to his hair.
Was that really the solution? Marrying Princess himself?
The idea which would normally make his heart soar instead made his stomach turn over.
He couldn’t marry her, not like this. Not as a last resort to stave off scandal and potentially war. Princess deserved better than that. Everybody deserved more than that.
Prince leaned forward, resting his forehead on the desk. There had to be another way, a way where Guard wouldn’t win without Prince losing so badly.
But there wasn’t. No other desperate solution in his mind was feasible in the amount of time they had left.
Prince let out a breath.
He couldn’t count on Princess to understand. He loved her, but she could be naive. No, Prince would conduct this himself, and it started with talking to his father.
God help him.
A MONTH LATER
“Well, this is a sorry sight!”
Forever a light sleeper, Prince started from his horizontal position on the couch. He blinked blearily around at his study, trying to find the source of the words. For a wild moment, in the delirium of having one foot in the real world and the other in the land of dreams, he wondered if his desk had spoken to him.
Then Prince’s eyes fell on Brother, standing in the open doorway with folded arms.
Prince glanced at the grandfather clock in the corner. “It’s six o’clock in the morning,” he grumbled, rubbing the drowsiness from his eyes.
“Yes, and you’re sleeping on a couch in your study alone instead of in your bed with your wife.”
Prince didn’t bother to answer the question asked by his younger brother’s tone. Yes, he didn’t sleep in their bedchamber anymore, but that didn’t mean he had to explain himself, certainly not to Brother, who had yet to be married.
Brother swept towards Prince’s desk, ignoring the neatly ordered papers as he jumped up to take a seat on top of them. “Your wife says she hasn’t seen you for days. Is there a declaration of war I don’t know about?”
Prince almost bit back, not appreciating the dig. Yes, Prince had assumed the Tunican party had nefarious intent, and yes, it turned out to be a company of soldiers containing Princess’s dowry. But in Prince’s opinion, it was better to be overly cautious than taken unawares.
Getting to his feet, Prince shoved at his brother. “Get off your porcine behind.”
“It’s a royal behind to you.” Brother hopped off the desk to recline lazily on the sofa on which Prince had just woken from.
“If you’re in the mood to pry,” Prince said bluntly, “go down to the launderers to hear the gossip. I’m busy.”
Brother sat forward, the usual merriment gone from his face. “Why are you avoiding Princess?”
Prince grit his teeth. He’d promised himself that he would only return to the scene of Princess’s encounter with Guard when he was sure he could control his temper.
As of yet, his temper hadn’t dissipated.
So he avoided it altogether—which meant he avoided her altogether.
“What happened?” Brother asked, dropping his voice even though they were the only two in the room. “Did the two of you have a fight?”
Prince shook his head. “I can’t tell you.”
“If you can’t tell your own brother, who can you tell?”
“I won’t be telling anyone anything.”
“Maybe not, but that only makes it worse for you.”
Prince wanted to scream at his brother, beg and plead with his brother to stop prying, but it would only make clearer the gravity of the secrets he held.
“You’re married,” Brother said
“Believe me, I’m painfully aware of that!” Prince snapped. He pinched the bridge of his nose between his fingers, trying to reel in the slip in his temper.
“You need to get to know your new wife,” Brother insisted.
“I know my wife!” Prince growled at his brother. A heavy silence fell while he once again tried to get his temper under control. “I know that she loves to spend her entire mornings sleeping. I know that her favorite flowers are white roses. I know that she has a birthmark on the side of her neck. I know that she hates boiled eggs and always wants her eggs fried.”
I know the name of the lowly soldier she loves.
Prince sat heavily on his chair, sagging against the armrests like he’d gone boneless. “I’m not ‘getting to know’ my wife because I don’t need to.” He swallowed. “It’s her that doesn’t want to know me.”
“You think your wife doesn’t care for you,” Brother said, as if it were some grand realization, the truth behind what kept Prince awake at night.
Prince bowed his head, wishing that that was all it was.
“You have to give her time,” Brother said gently. “She came here as an effort to strengthen kingdom ties, not to gain a husband.”
The great ache in Prince’s chest threatened to swallow him whole.
He knew he’d practically forced himself onto Princess. That’s how she saw it, and it’s how Prince’s kingdom saw it. They saw him as a man who took what he wanted. But how could this ever be what he wanted? To be married to a woman who belonged in his dreams and yet loved someone else? To know that she wanted nothing more than to spend her time with Guard?
He heaved a large sigh. “I will give her that time.”
Brother didn’t say anything more, and Prince didn’t want him to. He didn’t want any more of his brother’s pity nor his brother’s advice. He wanted Guard gone, and he wanted Princess’s heart intact when Guard left.
Impossible.
“Leave me be,” Prince said wearily.
Brother hesitated a moment and then got to his feet and walked towards the door. He paused before opening it. “Why would she marry you if she didn’t see something in you?” With that, Brother left.
Prince knew the question was rhetorical. He knew it was meant to make him believe in the chance that his wife could love him. But all it did was remind him of the answers he couldn’t share.
At this point, Prince was fairly certain those answers would die with him, and the only way anyone would ever know was if they opened his chest to see the words carved into his heart.

You closed your eyes, your head spinning at the alcohol you had consumed and at Hakari’s confession. His look wavered at your silence, but ever the determined individual, he began pulling you closer. He brought his hand up to your face and caressed your cheek with his thumb tenderly, “Y/N you don’t have to say anything right now but know that I love you and no matter what happens, I will always be there for you.”
As he muttered these words, he began inching closer, and as he was about to kiss you, you heard a curse behind you. “Kinji, what the fuck do you think you’re doing.” Feeling a shock through your spine, you straightened and pulled your hands from Hakari’s. As if on cue, you felt his hand grab the back of your dress and pull you back.
Looking up, you saw Sukuna’s back, and him shaking in anger. You tried to tell him to back off but could not find your voice. You were a little drunk and hated yourself at not having shut down Hakari much sooner, but while you cared for him as a friend, did not believe you could have feelings for someone else until you figured out this thing with Sukuna once and for all.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing with my wife?” Sukuna’s fists clenched and unclenched dangerously, and you knew you had to deescalate the situation quick. With a sardonic laugh, Hakari walked closer to him, coming face to face with Sukuna. “You don’t deserve her, man. Anyone can see how much she suffers because of you, you’re fine with that? She’s too good of a person to tell you anything but there are other people that care about her.”
The aura around Sukuna turned somehow even deadlier, and he brought his hands up to grab Hakari’s jacket and shook him harshly. “Know your place, fool,” Sukuna sneered, “you know nothing about her and mine’s relationship. Shut your mouth before I kick your ass.”
With a light chuckle, Hakari grabbed Sukuna’s hands and pulled them off him. “In that case she must know what a piece of shit you are, and how you bring disaster anywhere you go.” You frowned. Even though Sukuna and you were currently not living together, it bothered you that Hakari was saying these things to him, especially at seeing Sukuna stiffen at the last accusation.
“Hakari, stop. I’m sorry if I gave any indication that I felt any differently than our friendship…b-but I’m married and you’re my friend,” you felt tears rolling down your face already. Turning to look at you, Hakari smiled warmly at you, “I mean everything I said. I love you and I am there when you need me.”
At this, a loud thud sounded throughout the gardens and as if in slow motion, you saw Sukuna’s fist connect with Hakari’s jaw, sending him crashing to the ground. You gasped, and as you were leaning over to check on him, Sukuna turned on his heel and grabbed your hand, pulling you with him. Turning to look at Hakari, you saw him standing, and he shook his head, assuring you he was fine with a quick nod. You turned to look at Sukuna, trying to keep up with him with his long strides and fast pace. It was all so much harder in your heels and I he roared state.
“S-slow down. I can’t run with these shoes right now. And w-where are we going? I’m heading home.” Sukuna stopped, and for the first time it seemed that he really was seeing you. Turning to look at you, he fixed his grip on your wrist and said as if it was the most obvious thing ever, “we’re going home. You’re coming with me.”
Upset, you looked around the garden to see if there was anyone around. You began pulling your hand from His grip, trying to head back into the hotel. “N-no. I want to go to my place; I don’t want to be with you right now.” You kept pulling your hand from his, but it made no difference. Sukuna was much stronger than you, so the only one putting any real effort was you. “Stop acting like this you brat. You’re coming with me. This being apart is enough, I’m taking you to our home. Your place is with me.”
At this, you felt all the rage you had tried to keep bottled up spill and spread throughout your body. You had needed these words and assurance from earlier on. Why did he feel that he could just say this, and you would come running back? What’s more, you felt furious and stupid at knowing that you were so in love with him that as soon as he said those words, you’d forgive everything and the emotional neglect and go back to him.
Knowing you were not strong enough to pull away from him or move him, you still began pulling your hand from his grip. “So, when someone shows the slightest interest in me, that’s when you decide that you want me with you?” Sukuna’s eyes widened at your state. “Y/n- “a loud sob escaped from you as you continued to pull at him. “Just leave me alone, go find Yuki. She’s so much prettier and obviously better than me! Marry her, fuck her, just be with her and leave me alone!” As you continued your tirade, Sukuna tried to grab your other hand and growled, “I told you I never fucked her when I married you. Why are- “with your tears flowing freely now, you turned to look at him and brought your free hand to beat on his chest. “I don’t care about that! You went to her and talked to her about us, your problems, everything. I wanted you to trust me, want to confide in me. If you c-couldn’t love me, a-at least I wanted us to b-be friends and have you trust me more than anything.”
While your outburst had made you feel as if weeks of tension were lifted off your shoulders, you suddenly felt exhausted, and noticed that you were leaning heavily on Sukuna. He had let go of your hand, and had his hands lightly wrapped around you. “I’m sorry,” you muttered, sniffing loudly, and closing your eyes. “No, y/n. I’m sorry.” You both stayed like that for a couple of more second before you turned to walk away. Before you could get far, you felt his hand close around your wrist, and before you could argue, he pulled you towards him as he pulled you up and carried you over his shoulder.
“W-what are you doing! Let me go, I d-don’t want to go with you!” You wriggled around and began flailing around. Even though you were trying your best to have him drop you, his iron grip around your legs never wavered. You continued kicking your legs as best you could when you noticed Sukuna was walking towards a side door. With a quick knock, it was opened, and you saw Uraume usher the two of you in. “Hi Uraume,” you muttered, as you landed a kick to Sukuna’s ribs. With glee, you noticed his sharp intake of breath. “Hi Ms. Y/N, I-I’m sorry about this.”
With a wave of your hand, you assured him it was t your fault as you thought of something. You tried raising your head, but with your upside-down position and constant swinging instantly made you almost throw up. “Uraume, can you please find Shoko and tell her I’m with him?” You saw Uraume shift nervously, when Sukuna nodded, “go ahead. If she needs anything tell her to call me.”
As Uraume bowed and quickly ran off, you began to feel more nauseous. “Sukuna, please let me down.” With a chuckle, he began heading up some stairs. “No way doll, you’ll just try to get away.” As he continued to go up the stairs, your frustration began to bubble up again. “All I’ve asked is for you to trust me. This is uncomfortable and… w-why can’t you just trust me!” With renowned energy, you began flailing around again as Sukuna opened a side door and began walking down a new hallway.
“I h-hate you. So much,” you quietly sobbed as you hear Sukuna scan something and open a door. You could see that you were in one of the suites, and as he made his way to the bedroom, you continued to quietly sob, clutching fistfuls of his jacket.
Sukuna came to a stop, placing you carefully down. You knew you should have instantly left, walked away, but you had missed him. You had missed his warmth, his smell, and his sure hands, making you feel safe. Even if he had never told you he loved you, you liked to think he felt a semblance of something similar with his actions.
You felt his hand on the small of your back, his other hand on the back of your head pulling you to him, stroking your hair tenderly. “I really want to be with you, I know everything is so fucked up right now, but please come back to me.” You whimpered at his words, feeling your heart squeeze. Your hands came up to clutch at his lapels. “Do you really hate me little one?”
You quickly shook your head, nuzzling into him. Instantly, his arms tightened around you. “I should, but I don’t. I can’t.” You shuffled around and removed your ring, grabbing his hand and handing it to him. His eyes widened in fear, making you remember when you were kids, and how scared he would be whenever his father would yell at him. “Why are you taking this off?”
As you began to take a step back, he quickly walked towards you, eyes still wide with fear. “Sukuna, we can’t keep doing this to each other. You don’t want to be with me, I can’t give you what you need. It’s better if we go our separate ways, I-it’s better if we stop putting so much pressure on us.” You tried to keep walking back, but Sukuna reached out to grab your hand. “P-please, it’s okay. It will be hard at first, but we’ll be better down the road. I will talk to your father and say I asked for this.”
“So, you lied? When you said you loved me?”  Your eyes widened in surprise, why was he bringing this up? “N-no I didn’t lie, but this is not good for either of us- “as you were about to continue, you stopped talking once you saw Sukuna drop down to his knees and pull you towards him.
“Please don’t leave me,” he pleaded, wrapping his arms around your waist, and burying his face against your belly, “please stay with me, be with me y/n.”  You panicked. While you had known Sukuna pretty much your whole life, you had never seen him show such explicit emotion. “G-get up, it’s okay. It’ll be f-fine Sukuna.” He hugged you tighter, and you heard his voice break, “you don’t even believe that.”
You leaned down, wrapping your arms around his shoulders, and tried getting him to stand. After coaxing him some more, he finally decided to stand up, but continued holding on to you. “You’re my best friend Y/N, and I know you don’t believe me but if you stay with me, I will make you believe it. My biggest mistake was leaving and not staying with you all those years back. I trust you wholeheartedly.”
He brought his hands up to your face, caressing your cheeks with his thumbs. Looking into your eyes one last time, he leaned in and kissed you.
You tried to remain strong in your resolve, but Your heart won out in the struggle, and how could you reject him when his lips slotted perfectly against yours? With a wanton moan, you threw your arms around his neck, pressing as close to him as possible.  Sukuna’s hands explored your body hungrily, as if to remember the planes of your body after spending time apart. Walking you back towards the bed until the back of your knees pressed against it, he lowered you carefully as you two continued kissing, a clash of teeth and tongues.
He pulled back to look at you. His cock stirred, pressing uncomfortably against his slacks at your flushed face and swollen lips from kissing and crying.  He hated himself at seeing your red rimmed eyes, but his insides pooled with warmth at seeing the love filled gazed you looked at him with. “W-what’s wrong?” You whispered. With a smile, Sukuna shook his head, leaning down to peck your lips. “You’re beautiful y/n.” You flushed in embarrassment, turning your head. He gingerly grabbed your jaw, turning you to look at him and kissed the tip of your nose, then kissed your lips, once, twice before capturing your lips against his and slipping his tongue into your mouth.
Sukuna began to kiss down your neck and down to your chest. Nipping at your skin through the tule on your dress. Carding your fingers through his soft, pink locks, you arched your back as he made his way down to your core. Pulling the skirt of your dress up, he began bunching the fabric around you, and seeing your lacy black panties, pressed a soft kiss on your mound. He looked up at you and you quickly nodded, leaning back on your elbows.
Peeling your panties off, he began trailing kisses on your inner thigh, caressing the other one. As you squirmed, you could feel your slick pooling at the entrance of your cunt, incredibly aroused. Embarrassed at feeling so sensitive so fast, you involuntarily canted your hips up, causing Sukuna to chuckle. “S-sorry,” you whimpered. You felt his hands come up to your cunt, his thumbs spreading your lips open and pressing a kiss to your clit. “Don’t apologize doll. I would be buried in you all day if I could. Pressing another kiss to your clit, he licked a stripe up your cunt and latched on to your bud, sucking and flicking his tongue.
“Ahh. S-Sukuna, pl… ngh!” You whimpered loudly, feeling your eyes roll to the back of your head as Sukuna inserted two fingers into you, scissoring and prepping you for him. His ministrations did not stop, he continued to suck at your clit like a starved man, while his fingers where now rubbing at that sponge y spot inside of you. You could feel warmth pulling in the pit of your stomach, your toes clenching as you felt your orgasm crashing over you, an over whelming amount of pleasure coasting all throughout your spine. As you tried to calm you breathing down, Sukuna got up from his place between your legs and looked down at you. With your hair in disarray and smudged makeup he had never found you more beautiful.
He smiled at you, and quickly got up to remove his jacket and shirt. As he moved to remove his belt, you quickly got up and placed your hands over his. “M-may I?” You quietly asked. If he was surprised, he didn’t show it, but with sure hands you quickly unbuckled his belt and unbuttoned his pants. Before you could lose your edge, you dropped his pants and began palming his hard cock over his boxers. Sukuna hissed, and with a sharp intake of breath, he shut his eyes tight. “Fuck doll- that feels good.” Without looking at him, you hooked your fingers on the elastic and began pulling them down. As you were about to free his cock, he gently held one wrist with his large hand and with the other placed a finger under your jaw, turning your head up to look at him.
“While I would love to fuck your mouth, you don’t have to do this doll.” You quickly shook your head, speaking with more confidence than what you felt, “I want to. I’ve never d-done this though, so I’m sorry if I’m bad.” A smirk spread over Sukuna’s face as he leaned in to peck your forehead, “we have a lifetime to practice.”
With that last reassurance, you grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the bed. Pushing him to sit down, you quickly brought your hands to the back of your dress to unzip it. Pooling at your feet, you quickly stepped to the side, and realizing you had not worn a bra, you were now naked with just your heels on. Looking back at Sukuna, you saw him shift impatiently, but giving you your time. The look he was giving you, though, made you clench instantly, and you could feel your slick pooling at your entrance again.
Stepping out of your heels, you quickly walked towards him and kneeled in front of him. Hooking your fingers in the elastic once more, you began to pull his boxers down. Sukuna raised his hips, and once you had freed his cock, it smacked against his hard stomach with a soft thwap.
His size always surprised you, even if you both had already slept together. You see a bead of pre on his tip, with shaky hands you run your thumb over his slit, smearing it across his cock. You pump him a few more times and after seeing him shudder in pleasure, you run your tongue across his slit slowly. With a low groan, Sukuna shuts his eyes and throws his head back. Your confidence building, you take him in your mouth, as far as you can. When you feel close to your limit, you leave him in your mouth a few second before coming up for air.
You see Sukuna breathing heavy, and with newfound confidence, you run your tongue along the thick vein underneath his shaft and around the bulbous head. You take him in once more, and bob your head up and down, your hand squeezing lightly at where you cannot reach him, your other hand fondling his balls lightly. You took him once more as far as you could go, feeling him in the back of your throat. Humming, you turned to look at Sukuna, whose eyes were squeezed shut. You began bobbing your head up and down once more, feeling him twitch inside of you.
Running your tongue along his shaft, you felt Sukuna’s hand card through your hair, and before you knew it, he had pulled you off him. Confused, you were about to ask him if you had done anything wrong, when you saw him pump his cock a few times and warm spurts of cum began coating your tits. Before you could say anything else, Sukuna leaned down, kissing you passionately, and pulling you into his arms. You flung your arms around his neck, trying to get as close to him as possible. Your pebbled nipples rubbed against his chest, causing you to moan into his mouth, and as you grind lightly against him, you felt his still hard cock rub against your lower stomach.
As you continued kissing, Sukuna flipped the two of you, laying you down gently and pressing you down with his body. You brought one hand down to stroke his dick lightly, as he began nipping at your jaw. Moving lower, he began kissing your breasts lovingly, leaving purple and red marks on his path. Sukuna left one last mark, then took in a pebbled nipple in his mouth. Swirling his tongue around the bud, his other hand came up to twist and pull at your other breast, not satisfied until it was a pointed peak.
As you arched your back to press your breasts against him, you increased the pressure on his cock, and feeling your release close you whimpered. “I-I’m close, darling.”
At the loving pet name, Sukuna released you instantly, and leaned up to look at you. You were about to complain, when you felt him press the tip of his leaking cock against your clit. “I want to feel you cream around my dick baby. And I’m sorry I surprised you there, but if I’m going to cum again, I’m going to cum inside of you,” and before you could say anything, he sheathed himself in you in one thrust.
Giving you a few moments to adjust, he nuzzled into your neck, pressing open mouthed kisses along your pulse point. Once you felt your fluttering hole adjust a bit more to him, you expected him to begin moving erratically, but where surprised when Sukuna began grinding his hips against you slowly, sensually. He cupped your jaw with his large hand and turned you so he could look into your eyes as he fucked into you slowly.
As he kept grinding into you, he pressed his forehead against yours and looked at you lovingly. With his other hand, he brought it down between the two of you and began rubbing tight circles on your sensitive, puffy clit. You whimpered at the overstimulation, loud moans bubbling out of you. You felt your release nearing again, and Sukuna felt it too, at the way your body began to tense once more.
“Are you close doll?” You could only nod, tears beginning to gather at your lash line. While you had already had sex with Sukuna, this time felt different. This felt like he truly cared about you and was trying to convey everything he couldn’t tell you this way. All you had wanted was to feel this closeness and being needed from him, and feeling as if he truly loved you, your orgasm washed over you, overwhelmingly stronger than you had felt before.
Sukuna continued rubbing circles on your clit, still rolling his hips into your abused hole. But as you brought your hands up to hug him closer to you, his breathing became raged and with a few more pumps, you felt the too familiar warm ropes of fun painting your insides. As the two of you continued breathing heavy, you brought one hand up to run your nails up and down his scalp. He pressed a fast kiss on your lips and leaned into your neck to muzzle into you.
You didn’t know how long you remained in that position, but it felt right. As Sukuna’s Cock became flaccid, you could feel his cum seeping it of your hole.  Pulling out of you slowly, he quickly got up and walked over to the bathroom. You sat up, and before you could get up, he came back with a damp cloth and began cleaning you up. As he ran the towel over your breasts, he cleared his throat. “We can go home, or if you’re too tired we can just stay here.”
You felt the wave of exhaustion wash over you, the adrenaline of the whole situation long gone. “We can stay here if it’s okay with you.” His head snapping to look at you, you smiled and leaned into him, pressing your cheek against his shoulder. “O-okay.” He quickly tossed the towel onto a nearby chair, and pulling you to him, covered the two of you with a blanket.
A thought did pop into your head, preventing you from falling asleep. “How did you have this room ready.” You felt Sukuna shift uncomfortably behind you. Your heart began to stop, thinking that he might have gotten this room for him and someone else. “I already had this plan to drag you here so we could talk. We would be leaving together no matter what in my head,” he said as he pulled pins out of your hair. “I didn’t count on Hakari confessing his love for you,” he added petulantly. You could hear the pout in his voice. Giggling softly, you turned in his arms to look up at him, “for now let’s sleep. We can talk tomorrow, yeah?”
Smiling, Sukuna nodded, and pressing a quick kiss to your lips, shut the light off.
The next morning, you began stirring, feeling too hot. As you opened your eyes, you noticed you were on Sukuna’s chest. Blinking rapidly, you tried to not move a lot in case he was still asleep. As you settled on his chest once more, you noticed your ring was back in your left hand. As you brought your hand closer, you heard a soft hum reverberating under you. “I hope you don’t mind, I put it on last night.”
You turned to look at him, resting your cheek against him. “It’s okay, I was planning to ask you for it.” Smiling, he ran his finger along your jaw. “Uraume came by this morning, you only had your dress, so he dropped some clothes off for the two of us. We can have breakfast here or back home; I know I promised you a conversation.”
Nodding, you began to get up, Sukuna following behind you. The two of you were still naked, which made you flush instantly. As you walked over to the bathroom, you felt Sukuna following closely behind you. As you turned on the water, he stood behind you, rubbing sleep out of his eyes.
As you were about to get in, he cleared his throat, “Mind if I jump in with you?” You smiled, trying not to look at his body, but failing miserably, “s-sure, come on in.” With a smile, he followed in behind you. “Don’t worry, I won’t do anything. I’m sure you want to get home already, and if we start, we’ll just stay here another night.”
Your thighs clenched instantly at his words, something not missed by him. With a chuckle, he began to wash his hair as you started to wash your body. While he was right, in that you wanted to go home already, you enjoyed having sex with Him, and being in closed quarters with him, made you throb with need. Besides, you couldn’t help but wonder how it would be to have shower sex with him.
Before you could jump him, you finished showering and hoped out, Sukuna following close behind. Both of you changed, exchanging a few words. Once ready, you gathered your things and headed down to the lobby, where Sukuna asked the valet for his car. Soon, both of you were on the way to your home. As Sukuna parked in the garage, you both got off and headed towards the elevator. As you waited for the right floor, Sukuna shifted nervously from foot to foot. He never acted like this, so you figured he was nervous for whatever reason. As the doors opened to your floor and Sukuna opened the door for you, you quickly dropped your bag in the table near the entrance, removing your shoes and walking towards the living room.
Deciding it was best if you were not close to him while you talked, you sat in the armchair near the window. Sukuna had followed you in and sat across from you in the couch. Looking at him expectantly, you brought your clenched hands to rest on your lap. “I know that when I asked you to marry me, you were confused. There are various reasons why I wanted to marry you, but I can assure you it was never to take advantage of you Y/N.” He ran his hands through his hair, seemingly nervous to open up to you.
“When I said that I would never cheat on you, I meant it. Yuki was an ex…well, she can’t even be called that. We never officially dated, just…slept together but all of that stopped long before I planned to ask you to marry me.”
“I understand why you’re hurt; you feel like I don’t trust you or don’t want to confide in you,” Sukuna paused, taking a deep breath, “but it’s nothing like that. I would trust you with my life. I just am trying to not drag you into my shit.” Leaning forward, Sukuna rested his elbows on his knees, covering his face with his hands. You almost went to him, but stopped yourself, you were somewhat getting the answers you had been looking for.
“I know how you felt before about me…feel, still,” he continued. “And I want you to know that you were always the most important person for me growing up. Every single second I spent with you was the best. If you’re worried you don’t have my…affection, don’t be. My heart has always been yours. I know that you’re probably more confused than before, but I’m trying to protect you from my bullshit. Please, just trust me.”
You were conflicted. Knowing Sukuna all your life, you knew when he was being sincere and when he was lying. You knew he was being sincere as he was never big in showing his real emotions throughout his life. He seemed scared of you leaving and knowing that he was open to telling you the reason for his change made you feel somewhat relieved. Standing, you walked over to him, and kneeling in front of him, you cradled his face with your hands, pressing your forehead against his.
“Your problems became mine the moment we got married. I’ll be waiting for you to be ready to tell me what is going on, but for now, all I ask is for you to tell me anytime you need me.” Eyes glassing over, he placed his hands over your own, nodding and kissing you deeply. As you pulled away, you ran your nose along his, and standing up, quickly brushed a stray tear from your eye. “Now, what do you want for breakfast?” With a smile, he stood and followed behind you as you walked over to the kitchen, “at this point anything. It got ugly while you were not here.” Smiling, you began to prepare breakfast as Sukuna sat at the bar and proceeded to tell you everything you had missed while you had been away.
The next morning you woke earlier than usual. You noticed a Sukuna’s heavy arm draped over your waist. Giggling softly, you carefully removed yourself from his embrace and got up to get ready for the day.  After a quick shower and putting your clothes on for the day, you noticed Sukuna was still asleep, and being early you headed to the kitchen to make some breakfast and a bento for Sukuna. After packing everything up, you heard the bedroom door opening and Sukuna’s footsteps heading your way. “Morning doll,” he muttered, voice still heavy with sleep. He walked over to you, pressing a quick kiss to your lips. “Sounds like you had a restful night,” you said, smiling.
“Best night in weeks, honestly,” Sukuna said as he bit into his toast. Smiling, you quickly went for your bag and quickly came back to eat breakfast with your husband. Later, as you were both heading out the door, you turned to Sukuna sheepishly. “Sorry to assume, but will you be driving me to work?” With a grin, he grabbed into your hand and led you to his car, opening the door for you and ushering you in. After a quick drive, he pulled to the front of your office and leaned over the console to grab your neck and pull you towards him, “I hope you don’t mind I can’t walk you in today doll, but there’s a meeting I have to head to. Mm… I can be a little late if you want though.”
You instantly felt heat pooling at the pit of your stomach. Shaking your head slightly, you smiled, “No, I understand. I’ll see you after work,” and leaned in to press a quick kiss to his lips. As you were about to pull away, Sukuna’s grip on your neck tightened slightly and he pulled you back in. He began kissing you feverishly, you with the same enthusiasm. As your kissing began escalating, he bit your lower lip lightly, making you whimper, and he slipped his tongue into your mouth.
As you continued kissing and tongues sloppily caressing each other, you pulled away before things escalated more. Rubbing your nose against his, you shakily said, “you better go now, or you’ll be late. I don’t want you to get in trouble on my accord.” With a smirk, he let go of you and ran his thumb across your lip. “We’ll continue this later at home, we do gotta make up for lost time.” Instantly blushing, you quickly gathered your things and got off the car. Before you could close the door though, you head Sukuna calling out your name. Turning, you looked at him. “I’m glad your back home doll, back with me Y/N.” With wide eye, you nodded and closed the door. As Sukuna drove away, you waved, and once you were no longer able to see his car, you walked into your office.
As you made your way into your building, you quickly shut the door to your office, hoping to get some work done quietly, when the door slammed open. “What the hell happened last night! Are you okay?” Shoko whispered loudly, making her way around your desk to stand in front of you. After making sure the door was closed, you pulled her over to the couch.
“Everything is fine, I moved back in with him and we had a good conversation,” you said. The frown in Shoko’s face let you know she did not believe you. “O-okay. I know that makes you happy, so I’m happy, but why did I see Hakari with a busted lip this morning? And also, I saw that whore Yuki yesterday. So trashy," Shoko muttered, "Do I need to kick her ass still?” Eyes widening, you cursed inwardly. After all the events of last night and this morning, you had completely forgotten about Sukuna decking Hakari.
“Geez, I dont want to think about her right now, she's not important. But, fuck, do you know if Hakari is in yet?” Shoko looked at you worriedly, “he said he had some on site meetings today, so he won’t be in until later or maybe until tomorrow depending on how they go. What happened Y/N?” Shutting your eyes and rubbing your temples slightly, you groaned, “last night Hakari said he was in love with me and wanted to know if I would consider him. Basically, Sukuna heard and after some back and forth, punched him.”
Since this had been the longest you had ever heard Shoko being quiet, you quickly turned to look at her. With wide eyes, she looked at you and whistled lowly, “Geez, so much happened yesterday. What are you going to do?” You knew you owed him to have a conversation with him. Even though he was such an amazing employee, you had to realize it was possible he would be uncomfortable working for you and would ask to leave. While that was a possibility that would be a huge blow to your company, you saw him as a good friend first and would take that chance stead you took Advantage of him.
“I need to tell him it is not going to happen, even if I was not with Sukuna,” you said quietly. Nodding, Shoko quickly brought her hand over yours and squeezed reassuringly. Clearing her throat, she quickly got up and brushed her pants, “well, all we can do now is work, we have a meeting in 5 minutes to discuss the upcoming quarter, so let’s go.”
With a smile, you quickly stood up and followed her out into the hall and into the conference room. As you took your seat at the head of the table, others quickly began filing in. After a few pleasantries, one of the executives, Nanami, began his presentation. You had always enjoyed Nanami’s presentations, you never found them boring, always concise and to the point. For some reason today, you were not able to focus. You suddenly began to feel dizzy, and your vision began to blur. Closing your eyes, you tried to breathe in deeply to calm yourself. “Do you need to step out Y/n?” Nanami’s voice jolted your eyes open. “No, sorry. Please, continue,” you smiled tightly. Looking at you worriedly, Nanami’s lips set in a thin line as he continued. Stealing a glance at you, Shoko worriedly whispered over to you, “step out, I will take over.”
You quickly shook your head, flashing a smile at her. Shoko frowned, but new not to press you right now. As the presentation continued, you began to feel dizzier, and your ears began to ring. Once Nanami finished and the usual post presentation questions were done, you got up to deliver a few remarks when your vision suddenly began spotting.  All you could remember was Shoko’s yelp of worry as everything went dark around you.
Sukuna walked into the cafe, and after a nod to the owner, headed towards the back. Sure enough, Hakari was sitting there, scrolling through his phone. “I didn’t think you’d come Hakari,” said Sukuna, pulling out a chair. “Well, how could I say no to an old classmate?”
With a hum, Sukuna began clenching his hands. “You know what I want to talk to you about,” Sukuna said drily. Taking a sip of his coffee, Hakari turned to look at him drily, “you know how I feel. I know how she feels. I don’t give a fuck how you feel. What else is there to talk about?” Sighing, Sukuna rubbed his eyes, “By the way, I’m sorry about that.” Nodding towards Hakari’s busted lip, Hakari smiled. “I know you well enough to know when you’re lying.” With a chuckle, Sukuna shook his head. “I’m sorry, only because I know it bothered Y/N, but in my opinion, you deserved it. Maybe I should apologize to her about it. Also, I came to talk to you as a man. To ask you to leave her alone.”
Scoffing, Hakari leaned back on his chair. “Please Sukuna, I hear how she suffers because of you. I see how it brings her down that you don’t give her the love she needs. Even if you have known each other since you were children, do you think that old friendship is the only thing that can keep the two of you together? Don’t you think she needs love and affection from you, the person she loves the most? I know that she does not love me, but I want to give her that option when you inevitably break her heart, and she realizes you don’t love her.”
Sukuna stared at Hakari, mulling over his words. He understood where he was coming from, but he didn’t know your history together. Sighing, Sukuna leaned forward, trying to choose his words carefully. “I love Y/N. I love her more than I can fathom Kinji. I am an idiot for not having told her this before, I was just hoping I made it obvious enough. I will love her for the rest of my days, making sure I am worthy of her, but if I have to fight you again for her, I will do that.”
Hakari looked at Sukuna with wide eyes, never imagining he’d sat those words. Noticing he was staring at his phone strangely, he decided to end this meeting as soon as possible. He still had one last concern though. “I can respect that. But with this new start, will you tell Y/N you’re the reason her parents passed away?”
Hearing those words made the usually sure Sukuna blanched, all color draining from his face. As he was reminded of the reason why he had tried to keep Y/N at arm’s length, his phone kept buzzing. Trembling, he picked up the call. “Ieiri, right now is not a go- “Hakari frowned. Something must have happened for Shoko to call Sukuna directly. He knew it was not work related, so it had to be about Y/N for her to be calling him with how much she disliked him.
Sukuna felt lightheaded. He never imagined his world would come crumbling so easily down. At Shoko’s next words, Sukuna felt despair he had not felt in very long. “Shut up and listen to me. Y/N is in the hospital.”

Chapter Five: Gender and Sexuality
Jade’s apartment put Roy and Dick’s little dorm room to shame. He swallowed hard at the realization she’d slept there without a complaint. Her apartment was large and luxurious. "You can hang your suit on the coat hanger. I'll get to it in the morning… And shoes go in the locker," Jade stated, "Hungry?" Roy nodded, still in a daze at the state of her apartment.
"Sure, um-. Jade, your apartment's huge," Roy stated. Jade rubbed the back of her neck.
"My husband left it to me when-. He left it to me,” Jade answered. Roy nodded.
“Can I help you in the kitchen?” Roy asked.
“Nuh-uh. Sit,” Jade replied as she pointed toward the couch. “You always make the food runs. Let me do this for once.”
“Can I watch you?” Roy questioned. Jade nodded.
“I used to imagine someday I’d throw elaborate dinner parties with lots of guests, and I’d wear my best dress-. And well-. You’re the only person I’ve ever had over,” Jade whispered. Roy sat at her kitchen island.
“Maybe I can come over sometime in a suit and have a fancy dinner party with you… It’d be awful to deprive you of a grown-up fancy dinner. Not to toot my own horn, but I clean-."
Jade giggled. "You'd dress up for dinner with me?" Jade asked.
"Yeah, you make me feel like we’re kid best friends. All my friends when I was a kid were so grown up… It felt like we never got to be real kids… But it’s different with you. You-.” Roy lost his train of thought as he met her gaze. “You-. We’re like kids… ‘Cause we never got to be kids.”
“Smile again,” Jade commanded.
Roy chuckled and tapped his fingers on the counter. “Smells good,” Roy changed the subject.
Jade offered him a chili pepper. “Don’t touch your eyes. Take a bite,” Jade whispered. Roy took a bite of the pepper, and Jade poured lime juice into a shot glass while she waited for him to react. “Nothing?”
“Sorry, Jade. My old man’s chili is ten times spicier than this. It’ll take a lot more than that to take me out,” Roy grinned. Jade was quick in the kitchen. She cut, sliced, and mixed without looking up… But every now and again, Jade would glance in Roy’s direction. Jade hadn’t told him that sleeping in his dorm was the only time Jade ever felt safe. She couldn’t tell him that he was the only comfort she’d ever had. No… That would ruin everything. “When you said you’d make me dinner, I imagined some frozen pizza… I didn’t think you’d go through all this trouble.”
“I like it. Haven’t you ever had a meal that you know was special? Just for you? And you feel it in your mouth when you taste it, and then you’ve got this warm sensation in your belly that makes you feel like everything’s gonna be okay?” Jade asked.
“You want me to feel at home,” Roy observed. Jade nodded.
“I always feel at home in your dorm. So, it’s your turn,” Jade replied, “You can go in the fridge and get something to drink.” Roy stood up and walked behind her before opening the fridge. He grabbed a soda.
“Want me to get you something?” Roy asked.
“No, thanks… But I’ll split that pop with you,” Jade replied.
Roy nodded, watching the expression on her face. Something about her eyes. Roy drank half the soda, giving the rest to Jade before walking over to her couch and dozing off. Jade’s face lit up as she listened to him snore. It was nice.
The oven timer went off, and Roy sat up, watching as Jade plated his meal. She didn’t notice that he awakened. So, he caught her singing to herself. It was beautiful. Her voice was cool and distant… Almost ghostlike. “Dinner smells great,” Roy stated as he yawned.
Jade chewed her lip and brought Roy his plate. “You have a beautiful voice. You should do open mic night at the cafe,” Roy complimented.
“Oh no, I’m-. I couldn’t do that,” Jade replied. Roy stared into her eyes, offering compassion.
“What if I was with you? Besides, it’s extra credit,” Roy replied.
Jade sat beside him, and Roy dug into his food. "Only if you come with me," Jade replied, "And it has to be a duet." Roy grinned.
"Deal,” Roy replied as he ate.
Jade chuckled as she watched him clean the meat off the bones out of the corner of her eye. “I made enough chicken for you to get more if you want-.”
“Oh, this is how I eat my wings,” Roy interrupted.
“We’ve had wings before,” Jade laughed.
“I’ve never had yours, though,” Roy explained. He was so sincere in everything he said. Even when he was sucking the sauce off his fingers.
*
After dinner, Jade took her shower, and Roy took his. “You can stay in the other bedroom. I never use it, but I think it’ll be more comfortable than the couch,” Jade whispered. Roy took her hand, swinging it back and forth.
“I don’t wanna say goodnight yet,” Roy whispered, “Can I tell you something?” Jade nodded. “Thank you for dinner and the past few days. I hope we can still hang out like this after the semester ends.”
“Of course,” Jade replied.
Jade laced her fingers with his. “And thanks for not letting me be alone while my roommate’s gone,” Roy thanked her.
“You’re awfully sentimental tonight, Roy Harper,” Jade half-joked.
“Well then... I’ll let you go to bed. Goodnight, Jade,” Roy whispered. She waved and shut the door on her way out.
*
Roy lay underneath her, chuckling as she pinned him down. “Stop flinching. You’re gonna mess it up,” Jade giggled.
“You’ve got a pencil by my eyeball. Of course, I’m gonna flinch,” Roy laughed as he dodged her. Jade playfully grabbed his throat with one hand. Roy’s eyes widened, and his laugh simmered to a sweet grin. His eyes traveled to her lips. Jade’s hand traveled from Roy’s throat to his chest as her smile faded.
“We’re just friends,” Jade whispered as she leaned closer.
“Mhm,” Roy replied as his lips touched hers. He wrapped his arms around her, and their lips parted. Jade took a breath and smiled.
“How many mints did you have after you ate?” Jade laughed.
Roy took one arm and propped himself up. “You want to talk dinner mints, or do you want to get naked?” Roy asked, half-serious as he locked eyes with her.
Jade’s breath caught, and she allowed Roy to see her as she was. She embraced him and smiled at how perfectly her face fit between his neck and shoulder. Roy softened, rubbing her back. “Hey, we don’t have to do anything… You okay?” Roy asked. Jade nodded. “I’ve got you…”
“I want to… Just—. I need a second to pull myself together,” Jade whispered, “Once we do this—. Roy, I like you so much.” Roy swallowed hard. He felt the same way, but it’d been so long since his heart felt that way. So long since he held someone in his arms that way.
“Look at me,” Roy gently whispered. Jade pulled back, and Roy smiled. “Let’s go on our fake-date... And if you still think it’s worth it, we can have pretend-sex—. If you want to. We don’t have to do anything.” Jade grinned, stroking his cheek with the back of her hand.

okay so What if before JL's 100 day ceremony, LWJ who's getting some bad juju's about the whole event decided to approach someone for help with regards to getting the Wen Remenants to safty and contacts WQ, not WWX about the same and she agrees. He approaches NMJ cause he's like this upright gentleman who he's known all is life and he trusts him. Except, the Nie elders are like give us something in exchange and nobody knows (I'm dracina and this will be continued in the next ask that I type up )
(dracina with pt2) about the Nie's using resentful energy so they can't offer for WWX to try to solve the problem/for WQ's medical techniques. Now the Nie elders are smart so they ask for stronger ties with the Lans (pre brotherhood ceremony) in the form of marriage with the Second Jade. This blindsides LWJ and WQ and the Nie's kinda offered it as a way to ascertain what kinda way they could mitigate the backlash of the cultivation world if they were to help. NMJ was not available for comment so
(dracina pt3) he doesn't know about any of this just like the Lans don't. LWJ accepts and is particularly heartbroken cause the last time he saw WWX, he was yelled at and kicked out for attempting to talk to him about the energy he was using. So they do a rushed wedding with NMJ so no one can stop them and the Wen's are secretly relocated and WWX doesn't know about the wedding yet but all he knows is that LWJ used to bother him and isn't anymore and actually helped him? Meanwhile, LWJ's like I
(dracina pt4) I cannot have an affair of any sort cause then the Wen's protection will be revoked and all the Wen's are finally getting access to good food and shelter and he may be selfish about WWX but he cannot hurt them by taking back the precarious safety that they've only just begun to trust, so he pulls back from WWX and is heavily courted by NMJ. Cue WWX realizing his feelings out of jealousy, NMJ realizing his feelings and also the fact that he's always gonna be the second choice. Cue
(dracina pt5) Cue LWJ lusting over NMJ and slowly falling for him cause he's like 100% sure that WWX will never love him. Cue NMJ and LWJ having a fucbuddies relationship while being married and in love wih each other unknowingly. The angst in that. Cue WWX only finding out about the marriage and why LWJ can never be with him at this point and being ready to raise hell and lowkey take everyone back to the bm but seeing how healthy everyone looks, being unable to do so. cue him finding out that
(dracina pt6) cue wwx realizing that lwj was in love with him all along,  confesses, gets rejected cause of the whole alliance. Nmj overhears and lack of communication between lwj and nmj makes both bois sad till nhs helps out and now wwx just pines away for the rest of his life cause he was too late. I'm so sorry for the multiple asks and the length of them. It just burst out of me all at once. I doubt you'll read this anyway tho. I love this page and I just discovered it. I hope you're healthy
-
No need to apologize for the multiple asks! I always like getting long asks like this. I’m glad that your enjoying the blog!
I can definitely see WWX leaving after the rejected confession and LWJ and NMJ resolving their miscommunications. Like, the Wens are safe now he and WQ created a way to help the Nie so they don’t really need him anymore. That and the heartache of seeing the man he loves happily married to someone else... yeah, traveling sounds like a great idea.

The slap sent her tumbling to the floor, not having ever been struck before. Her cheek was sore, the skin heated as if she sat too close to an open flame. Bambam was above her, fisting her hair in his hand before he yanked her up upright. She hissed as her scalp throbbed from the sudden force. His eyes, blacker than any ocean, held no ounce of sanity as he glared down at her.
“Why?!” Spit flew from his mouth as he screamed in her face. “Why can’t you love me like you love him? I-I can give you everything! I have given you everything!” His eyes were wild, caging her soul like a bird.
“You are mine!” Bambam sneered as her face pinched in pain. “This is what you wanted, right? A monster! A cruel heartless monster!”
The humor in his voice was flat, dull...anything but comforting as he gripped her face harshly in his free hand. He forced her to stare into his eyes, his tears now dripping onto her cheek as he stared at her.
His gold jewelry suddenly felt so heavy around his neck as he watched tears slide down her face silently. Burning his skin as they followed his veins like a map on his hands to his heart.
“You belong to me...d-does that mean nothing to you?” He leaned in closer and inhaled the sweet aroma of her hair before he rested his forehead against hers and closed his eyes. “I love you. I love you so much that it hurts.”
Their tears mingled and she hesitated to place her shaking hands on his wrist. He inhaled sharply at the touch, “I don’t want your love.” Her eyes were narrowed, watery and bloodshot as she struggled to keep herself together. “Love me?” She yanked her face free from his hold and spit at his feet. “I never wanted your love!”

Verivery as Fanfiction Tropes
I just randomly had the idea to do this, since I love Verivery and I feel like a lot of the members have very specific tropes that they fit into well. However, I’ll be honest and say I had a hard time with a few of them, as they could fit multiple different tropes. Anyways, I hope you enjoy and if you disagree, just remember its all for fun and only my opinion :)
Tumblr media
Dongheon - Brothers Best Friend
“You know,” You said out the window at the man who had been throwing pebbles at your window for almost 10 minutes.
It was late in the evening, everyone else in your house getting to sleep peacefully while you had to deal with the boy you’d had a crush on ever since your brother brought him to your house for the first time. You’ll never forget that day, as the memory of him smiling awkwardly at you and lingering around the kitchen when the boys would emerge from your brother’s room for a snack.
He only grew more bold since the; talking to you regularly to getting your social media to now coming to your house to meet with you in secret instead of seeing your brother.
“If my brother ever finds out about you coming to see me, he’ll be pissed.” you laughed playfully, leaning out on the window frame to get a better look at the man on the lawn.
Dongheon smiled up at your window, glad to finally get your attention after what seemed to him to be an eternity.
He couldn’t leave you alone. His best friend had warned him before, you were off limits. But from the first time he met you, he felt like he would have rather ditched your brother and spent time with you instead. But he settled for meeting you in the shroud of night and being secretive. It was the best of both worlds; keeping his friend and getting to see you too.
“That’s fine sweetheart,” He hummed, brushing his hair out of his face with a chuckle, “Nothing could keep me away from you, not even your brother.”
You felt your face heat up as you tried to contain the hearty laugh that was bubbling in your chest at Dongheon’s antics. He grinned in victory as he waved his hand for you to come down to meet him.
“If you’re that afraid of him finding out his best friend is sneaking around with his sister, why don’t I take you somewhere else? Somewhere where it’s less likely to wake your family up.” Dongheon suggested, jabbing his thumb behind him in the direction of his car. You rolled your eyes at him, leaning back inside the window.
“You will be the death of me, Lee Dongheon...” You sighed, shaking your head, stupid grin covering your face before you gave him one last look, “Let me grab a coat and I’ll be right down. Be quiet while you wait.”
Tumblr media
Hoyoung - Soulmates
It seemed everyone else in the world had met their soulmate except Hoyoung. At this point, he was sure the world would stay this dull grey scale forever. Maybe he didn’t have a soulmate? Maybe love just wasn’t in the cards for him in this lifetime.
“Dude, I’m telling you, this cafe is really cool!” Minchan stressed once again, walking down the pavement with Hoyoung trudging behind, “It’s really worth the far walk, I swear.”
“I’m sure it is,” Hoyoung hummed flatly, shoulders slouching slightly and arms falling at his sides.
They made it to the front of the cafe, a bright sign lit up to display the name. Hoyoung only assumed they would be coloured but alas, he couldn’t tell.
“Oh, sorry, let me hold that for you.” Minchan said politely, holding the door open for a person who was just trying to leave at the same time the two boys had arrived.
“Thank you!” You said with a bow, exiting the cafe and starting the trek home. As you passed the two boys, your hand accidentally brushed up against Hoyoung’s, creating a static shock in your fingers. You continued down the street, unaware of what was happening to the man you just touched by accident.
Hoyoung felt a sudden warm feeling bloom from the finger you touched that shot up his arm and sat deep in his chest. Looking back up at the sign, he could see the faintest hint of green start to paint the bright neon lights. He couldn’t believe his eyes; The colour spread to other things, like the redness of the brick wall of the cafe bleeding into his vision and the softness of the blue sky coming into focus. It was like he had actually seen the world for the very first time.
“You coming dude?” Minchan asked, snapping Hoyoung out of his daze. He whipped his head around to see you walking, head down looking at the grey cement under your feet, completely unaware.
“Hang on one minute...” He called to his friend, not taking his eyes off you before whispering, ”I think that’s my soulmate....”
“I’ll be right back!” He said frantically over his shoulder to his friend quickly before running to catch up with you and hopefully find out your name.
Tumblr media
Minchan - Fake Dating
“Ughhh tell me again how I got roped into your antics again?” You groaned, crossing your arms over your chest. Minchan fixed his hair in the mirror one last time before turning to you and grinning.
“Because you love me.” He said in a teasing tone. You rolled your eyes, looking down at his outfit. The suit he had to wear for his cousin’s wedding fit him well, except the tie around his neck was loose and crooked.
“No, because you offered me something in return,” You huffed, walking over to him to help fix the tie around his neck, “Don’t forget, you owe me for this.” Minchan hummed, standing still as you undid the tie, smoothing it out a bit before beginning to tie it over again, much more neatly than how Minchan did it originally.
Suddenly, he snaked his hands around your waist, pulling you closer to him. You let out a surprised squeak, furrowing your eyebrows as you looked up at his face that was inches from yours. You hated to admit it, but being this close made your heart flutter intensely.
Before you could say anything, Minchan whispered under his breath just so you could hear, “My mom is watching us right now.”
Sure enough, you could see his not-so sneaky mother peek her head out from around the corner out of your peripheral. The reality of the situation crashed down at you and the flutter in your heart was replaced with a sudden sinking feeling in your stomach. You hated that you were somehow disappointed.
You glanced back at Minchan, who was still inches from your face and holding you tightly. You chuckled softly and shook your head.
“Let me finish your tie, dumbass.” you scoffed, focusing back on the tie in your hands as you tightened it around his neck, shifting it into place, “There you go. Much better.” Instead of letting you go, Minchan just pulled you even closer, a silly smirk on his face.
“let me kiss you right now, it’ll sell the act.” He suggested quietly, wiggling his eyebrows at you. You let out a nervous giggle, but nodded nonetheless.
He placed a quick peck on your lips before releasing you, and you somehow wished it wasn’t just a quick kiss to convince his family he had a date, but something he actually wanted to do. In that moment, you realized that desire existed and it made you feel suddenly very anxious for the rest of the wedding.
Oh gosh, you were in trouble.
Tumblr media
Gyehyeon - Enemies To Lovers
The bottle spun to a stop on the carpet, pointing directly at the guy you were praying it didn’t land on. You look up at his stupid face to see it twist into one of annoyance before looking at you.
“Can I spin again?” You asked Yeonho, who was already trying to get you to stand by pulling you by the arm. You glanced back at Gyehyeon, who stands on his own but does so with his arms crossed and still annoyed expression on his features. You looked back at Yeonho, who was trying to stifle a grin, “I’ll go in there with anyone but him.”
“Too bad, it’s the rules.” He said in a sing-song voice while dragging you towards the closet and pushing you inside. Gyehyeon just scoffs and walks in, hands stuffed in his pockets.
The door clicks behind you both and you’re shrouded in darkness, not being able to see each other even though you are basically right against each other in the small space. You stood like that in silence for a moment before he groaned.
“Gosh, your breath smells.” He complained, causing you to frown, “Can’t you turn your head to the side? I can feel it on my neck.”
“Okay, you don’t have to be mean,” You spat back, turning your face into some of the coats hanging up in the closet, feeling anger bubble up in your chest from being insulted, “You act like your breath doesn’t smell like beer...”
“Hey, you’re just saying that because your mad. You’re always such a baby...” He grumbled. You laughed spitefully, turning back to face him as you let your annoyance out. You still couldn’t see him, but you could feel his body heat as you stood a few inches away.
“Don’t you ever just shut up? I feel like I always have to listen to your annoying voice.” You said, hands clenching into fists at your sides before sighing from irritation.
Gyehyeon suddenly rushed forward, slamming his hand against the wall near your face, caging you in between him and the wall. You gasped slightly, pressing your back against the wall as he leaned in close. You could feel his breath on your face.
“Want me to shut up?” He muttered in an acidic tone, his lips practically brushing against yours as he spoke, “Why don’t you make me?”
Tumblr media
Yeonho - Best Friends To Lovers
“Yeonho, I can’t do this! I wanna get off right now.” You cried out, jiggling the lap bar of the roller coaster you are both on.
It was Yeonho’s birthday and you took him to an amusement park to celebrate. He’d be your best friend for years now, meeting in school and bonding over a shared interest. That quickly grew into doing almost everything together after realizing you were like the same person and enjoying each other’s company a lot.
All day, you’d been having fun; going on rides, playing games and eating plenty of classic amusement park food. However, you’d been avoiding going on the big roller coaster because it made you scared... But Yeonho wanted to go so badly, so you agreed reluctantly.
Now that you were climbing the incline on the roller coaster, hearing the clicking of the track and seeing the ground get farther and farther away, you really wished you hadn’t agreed.
“You can’t get off now, it’s too late, silly.” He chuckled while turning to face you with a grin. You looked at him with terror in your expression and and he seemed to realize how scared you actually were.
“I want off.” You repeated, holding tightly onto the shoulder secure, and scrunching your eyes closed. The ride was getting to the peak and (if you had your eyes open) you’d be able to see the whole park from here.
“(Y/N), look at me,” Yeonho called to you calmly. You opened your eyes and looked at him; he looked beautiful with the setting sun casting an orange glow over his face as he held his hand out for you to hold.
“Hold my hand if it gets scary,” He offered, smiling sweetly at you. You quickly took his hand and interlaced your fingers with his, squeezing his hand tightly, “you’ll be okay, I promise. I’m here.”
You made it to the very peak, stopping for a moment to allow the suspense to build. You took a few short breaths, trying to stop yourself from crying. It was safe to say you were freaking out.
“Hey (Y/N)... I like you. Wanna go out on a date?” Yeonho suddenly asked. You looked at him, confused to see him with a gentle smile and no hint of humor in his expression.
“Seriously?” You asked and he nodded subtly. You felt like your brain was going numb when suddenly the coaster clicked, sending you down the the drop. You were so focused on Yeonho’s confession you barely had time to scream, clutching his hand tightly. Little did you know, that was his plan all along.
“I like you too, I like you too, I like you too!” You chanted, eyes screwed shut while terror filled screams bubbled up from your chest, “Let’s go out... gosh I’m gonna die!”

Yongseung - Arranged Marriage/Royalty Au
The ballroom sparkled as the many party guests danced around and mingled. For what was supposed to be the joyous event of announcing your engagement, you couldn’t care less.
As a young royal, you always knew you’d be married off for the means of diplomacy and not for love. But you also would have at least preferred to meet the man you were supposed to marry before you get engaged.
The Prince you were supposed to marry apparently was from the far north, so the travel time too longer than expected for him to arrive. It could take hours or even the next morning for your future husband-to-be to get here... So you currently stood awkwardly and bored against the wall as you watched the other guests pinning around to the music.
“Beautiful night, isn’t it?” A voice said from beside you. You turn to see an attractive young prince standing next to you. He looked out at the people dancing before turning to you and giving you a half smile and jokingly continuing, “Congratulations on your engagement.”
“Thanks.” You chuckled, shaking your head before looking back into the crowd, “Be sure to tell my future husband that too, if he even arrives tonight...”
“How would you like to dance while you wait for him?” The handsome stranger asked, holding out his hand for you to take, He gave you a sympathetic look, “This ball is pretty boring if you just stand here.”
“I’d love too,” You began with a grin, before letting it fade and sighing, “But I have to save my first dance of the engagement ball for my fiance. It’s tradition.” The stranger hummed, seemingly thinking before smiling to himself and bowing politely.
“I understand, Your highness.” The prince said simply, “But forgive me, I haven’t properly introduced myself.”
He grabbed your hand before placing a soft kiss on the back of it. You raised your eyebrows at the stranger, before his eyes met yours.
“My name is Yongseung, the prince of the Northern Kingdom. I think that makes me the man you’re getting married to in a few months..?” He said politely, making you freeze in place, “I also think that means it’s alright if we go dance now, correct?”
“My apologies, Your highness!” You gasped, bowing furiously as he let out a little chuckle, “Please, let us dance!”
Yongseung pulled you out to the center of the ballroom where he held you firmly by the waist and hand. The music began to pick up and you were soon spinning around the room like the rest of the guests.
“How was the trip?” You asked, face still hot from embarrassment, as you began to mumble, “I can’t believe I didn’t realize who you were...”
“Long trip, but not too bad,” He sighed simply, smirking at you with a teasing tone, “And to be fair, the only reason I could recognize you was because I asked one of the guards where you were. This is our first meeting, after all.”
There was a silence that washed over the two of you, as you danced along to the music. Your hand felt clammy in his, and you refused to look at your fiance in the eyes, as it was still a bit too awkward for you.
“Congratulations on the engagement.” You whispered, causing Yongseung to let out a hearty laugh. You smiled at your successful attempt to lighten the mood, and for the first time since this arrangement was suggested, you thought maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.

Kangmin - Boy Next Door/Unrequited Love
You clicked the doorbell of your neighbors house, fingers nervously tapping on the side of the Tupperware container in your hands. Much to your delight, it was Kangmin who opened the door, smile soft and bright like the summer sun.
You’d lived next door to his family ever since you were young. You’d been to their house for play-dates countess times, your family invited them to your house monthly for dinner; Kangmin’s mother even called you her second child.
“My mom made these this morning and thought you’d enjoy them!” You gestured to the container in your hands. They were filled with blueberry lemon muffins, which happened to be Kangmin’s favourite.
“Oh wow!” He exclaimed, taking the container and lifting it to his face to look through the clear plastic. He opened the door a bit wider, “Do you wanna come in and have one with me?”
“Sure.” You answered simply, feeling like your heart was going to beat out of your chest. You’d grown feelings for Kangmin years ago; it was impossible not to! He was sweet and cute and you already spent so much time together with you living next door.
You followed Kangmin into the kitchen where he placed the container on the table and went to fetch you and him an glass of iced tea. You sat at the table, opening the container and fishing out two muffins for the both of you.
“What’s new?” You asked as he sat down across from you. Kangmin peeled the wrapper off the muffin and set it down on the table gingerly.
“Not much, how about you?” He asked, taking a bite of the muffin and humming in delight, “These are great!”
“I’ll be sure to tell my mom you said so!” You giggled at his cute expression, taking a sip of the iced tea he brought, “And nothing’s really new here either... same old, same old.” Kangmin suddenly shot up in his chair, eyes wide in realization.
“Oh, there actually is something new!” He exclaimed, before chuckling to himself, “How could I almost forget?” You smiled at him, urging him to continue when his phone dinged with a notification. He looked at it and grinned bashfully.
“Perfect timing,” He said before looking back at you. Kangmin’s cheeks were a faint rosy colour and he looked a bit shy, which threw you off. What was it?
“I’m going on a date!” He cheered excitingly. He showed you the notification before going on a tangent about the girl he’d met recently and how they instantly clicked.
And in that moment you felt your heart shatter into a million pieces.

Once A Heart Is Given ~ a continuation of Sorrows Can Swim
It's definitely true that art mimics life. Thanks to certain life events, I'm feeling remarkably similar to Prince, so...I guess inspiration is my silver lining?

Prince was tired of meetings. He was tired of people needing him. And he was tired of this life he called his own.
The council, fully composed of men greyer than rainclouds and wrinklier than raisins, sat at the big table. They never looked at him with anything less than expectancy, waiting for him to listen and make the big decisions that came with his duty.
“We’ll send funds to the village, but discreetly,” Prince decided, hating that he had to be subtle with his support at the risk of offending the nobility, but unwilling to let his people flounder.
The men leaned in towards each other, debating his decision with those calculating eyes and lowly spoken words. Prince waited for them to raise a complaint meant for his ears, but the murmuring eventually died. “Are we settled?” he asked the room at large. The men didn’t speak, to agree or disagree, which was a telltale sign they felt they were doing him a great service in humoring him.
Prince ached for a kind word from them, but that was like waiting for fairies to come, pointless and even if it happened, only a luxury.
“Is that all for today?” he asked the council, concealing his weariness the best he could.
The head councilman bowed. “Yes, sire, that’s all for the day.”
“Then I will see everyone tomorrow.” The council all got up from their chairs, bowed as one, and filed out of the room, talking amongst themselves again.
They have each other, Prince lamented. I have no one.
Prince’s shoulders slumped as he rubbed his eyes against the harsh, bright afternoon sun streaming into the room. He got up, turning to grab a fistful of the curtain, intending to close it and shut away the light.
But then he caught sight of the garden below and the beauty running amongst the hedges.
Princess.
Her long, unbound hair streamed behind her, her fists pumping as she ran. She reached the fountain and spun, the pale purple fabric of her dress billowing around her as she spun a full circle and a half, allowing her to face the castle once again. Her radiant smile was aimed at the ladies that were catching up to her.
What would it feel like to have that smile aimed at him?
Her mouth opened, and even through the glass, his ears caught her merry laughter. His heart swelled, and a pained croak fell from his lips.
He couldn’t contain it, the way he felt for her. He ached to hear her laugh again, but with the way his heart seemed to grow every time he heard it, it might grow too big for his chest if she did. He felt as if a piece of her was inside him, like she was interwoven in his being, and in the piece’s mighty effort to return to her, it nearly dragged him with it. He considered it a minor miracle that it wasn’t her name he said every time he opened his mouth. He couldn’t imagine what the council would think of him if that were the case.
Princess tagged one of the ladies and ran away, shrieking from the excitement of the game.
A sigh left him, and he allowed his forehead to rest against the glass, his eyes following her every movement. He knew he needed to look away, if not out of respect then for his own sanity. He needed to banish her from his mind or he would spend forever watching her from this window. If Princess were to look up through the window, she would catch sight of the fond smile toying at her husband’s mouth. But Princess kicked off her shoes, oblivious to her spectator as she lifted her skirts and ran.
And he couldn’t look away.
He’d spent most of his life either looking at or looking for her.
Every summer since Prince turned ten and Princess turned eight, she’d spent in this castle. Prince could still remember the first day she’d arrived in a blue carriage with golden accents, the Tunican colors. Nursemaid had all but wrestled Prince into his best clothes. As they stood outside the castle, watching the carriage appear in the distance, Nursemaid lightly smacked Prince’s hand every time he reached up to scratch the itchy collar. When the carriage came to a stop and a footman opened the door, Prince expected a bratty, snooty girl to step out.
A snooty girl indeed was who took the footman’s waiting hand. Once she was out of the carriage, she stood on the ground, blinking out at all the people standing in the castle courtyard waiting for her. Prince had started to groan, not looking forward to the bowing and scraping that was about to occur.
But before anything of the kind happened, the girl took off like a shot, running not towards the people or back into the carriage, but off to the side, towards the royal orchard.
The footman, clearly used to this behavior, ran after her, calling her name, and a few other servants joined in the chase, including Nursemaid.
But Prince looked back at the carriage to see two dainty blue shoes, laying discarded in the dust of the path from where Princess had kicked them off.
Never in his life had Prince known chaos like the day Princess sprinted through the courtyard and into his life. And nothing else in his life had he wished for since.
“Sire?”
Prince jerked away from the window, blinking as his eyes tried to adjust to the darkness of the room that had been too bright moments before. “Yes?”
“I have done as you ask.”
Finally, Prince’s eyes adjusted to see Maid standing in the doorway, looking a bit confused. “I’m listening.” He tried to arrange himself in a very thoughtful, serious position.
Maid swept into a deep curtsey. “Sire, she said she has no need for jewelry or clothes, sire, nor stationary or books.”
Prince frowned. His sneaky attempts once again failed to find out what Princess wanted for her birthday—which was two days away. It would be her first birthday in Prince’s kingdom, her first birthday as his wife. He wanted her to enjoy it, and he was getting desperate.
“What about a horse?” he asked desperately.
Maid shook her head. “She has a prize mare already, sire.”
Prince pursed his lips, deep in thought.
With their lives similarly decadent, what riches could he offer her? The only thing he could give with value other than monetary was his heart, and he’d given it to her already. She didn’t want it, he knew that, and if it were humanly possible, he would’ve taken it back long ago. Prince wasn’t even sure that a heart could be taken back once it was given.
“But if I may?”
Prince looked up at Maid, her fingers anxiously smoothing down her skirt, betraying her unease when her face didn’t. “Yes?” he said.
“She mentioned that she wants to go see Queen’s Veil Falls.”
Prince turned back to look at Princess, who was much further through the garden now. The waterfall was one of Prince’s favorite places in the whole kingdom.
As he watched Princess roll on the grass in an attempt to dodge one of the ladies, a plan started forming in Prince’s head. “Thank you, that will be all.”
“Sir, you…you don’t want to hear anything else?”
Prince furrowed his brows, spinning to see Maid’s furrowed brows. “What else is there?”
Maid glanced over her shoulder and then lowered her voice. “There’s a man–”
“No!” Prince said, so loudly, Maid flinched. “I’m sorry.” Prince rubbed his forehead, reeling back his feelings and pushing them down. “You’re dismissed.”
His outburst must’ve frightened her, for Maid curtsied and scurried away.
What had she been about to say? It certainly would’ve involved Guard, but was it information Prince already knew? Or was there more?
Prince swallowed hard and pulled out a map, forcing himself to stare at the location of Queen’s Veil Falls.
The waterfall was a pleasant, secluded space. Prince had never been there with more than three people, and often, he simply went by himself. But Princess wouldn’t want to spend her birthday with Prince, and he couldn’t send her ladies there without an escort, and an escort would make the group too big.
But there was a way for Princess to go to the waterfall with only one other person, someone who was very capable of protecting her, and possibly the person Princess would most enjoy going with.
-
Prince waited until the next morning before going to the barracks.
The dimly lit room contained twenty beds, ten on each side. Nineteen of the beds were empty, only one bed was occupied: the bed in the corner, furthest away from the light. The torches had been snuffed, leaving the sunlight streaming through two tiny windows as the only source of light in the room.
Prince walked briskly to the bed, eyeing the lump underneath the blanket. Guard was on duty the night before and was now catching up on some much needed sleep. Normally, Prince would avoid waking him at all costs, for Guard was already problematic enough to deal with when he’d slept well.
But this conversation couldn’t wait with the Princess’s birthday being the next day.
“I have work for you,” he told the lump still in bed.
The lump moved from beneath the blanket, and Guard’s groggy face appeared. Any other soldier in this castle would leap out of bed, standing at attention with poker straight posture. But Guard merely rubbed his eyes. “What?” he said, irritated.
“Princess’s birthday is tomorrow.”
Guard propped himself up on his elbows, blinking sleepily at Prince. “And?”
Prince stood statue still. Somewhere inside surely resided anger, but all Prince could feel was misery. Everyone deserved to be celebrated on their birthday. If Guard cared a mite for Princess, he’d commit himself to her enjoyment. But he didn’t, so he wouldn’t. Over and over, Guard’s actions spoke of nothing but self-interest, and Prince only had himself to blame for being disappointed.
He took a deep breath and blew it out as slowly as he could. “Princess wants to go to Queen’s Veil Falls. If the two of you leave after breakfast tomorrow, she can have lunch at the falls and be back before dinner. I think–”
“What’s in it for me?” Guard interrupted, swinging his legs over the side of the bed.
“A picnic. The chance to see a beautiful place. Time with Princess away from the castle.” Guard raised an eyebrow, looking unimpressed, and Prince scowled. “You’ll have a day free of duties aside from keeping her safe. That must be sorely tempting.”
Guard smacked his lips, as if he were literally tasting the offer and deciding his verdict. “Very well.”
Prince stared as Guard yawned and stretched.
What would he himself give to be the one Princess wanted to celebrate her birthday with? If some witch could somehow make Princess naturally love Prince…why, Prince would give the witch anything she wanted, perhaps even his life’s purpose—his kingdom. And here Guard was, acting as though this opportunity, as though Princess were burdensome?
Guard’s eyes lazily passed over Prince, but then he froze in his position with his arms stretched towards the ceiling. Then, he lowered his arms and pushed himself up on his feet. “Does His Highness have something to say?” he asked, his mocking voice undermining the title.
Prince turned away. “The kitchens will prepare the picnic basket, and the stables will have two horses saddled and waiting for you.”
“Look at me!” Guard shouted, and Prince looked over his shoulder to see a dangerous light flickering in Guard’s eyes. “You don’t get to dismiss me.”
“I’m not.”
Guard advanced on Prince. “You will treat me with the respect I’m owed, or I’ll–”
“Spill the beans. I’m aware.” Prince held his clasped hands behind him, looking Guard directly in the eye. If only Guard knew what the kitchen staff normally did to rats, then he’d have no doubt that Prince was already treating him much better than he deserved.
Guard’s mouth suddenly spread into a nasty smile as he made a show of dusting off the shoulder of Prince’s doublet. “No matter. Your wife treats me well enough for both of you.”
Maybe Prince should’ve punched in Guard’s nose right then and there. Ordered him out of the castle. Called for the other soldiers to throw him in prison.
He was too defeated to do anything of the kind.
Prince just tiredly blinked at Guard, waiting until the man was satisfied enough to allow him to leave without more grandstanding.
Guard stepped back. And then he spat.
Prince lowered his gaze to the glob of saliva now darkening the front of his shirt.
“You’re pathetic,” Guard said in a low tone. “And your wife knows it.”
Prince waited for the searing, poker-hot pain to shoot through his chest, but he felt nothing. Nothing at all. His heart made nary a peep. Perhaps it really was wholly and completely Princess’s, so far gone, it resided in his chest no longer. “Don’t forget about tomorrow,” he said quietly before turning away.
“Come back here!” Guard shouted, but Prince ignored him.
He had a meeting to go to, and apparently he had to change his shirt.
