Hey, it's a new guy! I actually made him last month, but i got anxious about posting him earlier for many different reasons, this is a good time for it now though!
This is Alpine, Flora's brother! loves snow sports but primarily snowboarding, super chill to hang but very protective of his sister and friends

The Alpine Sheep
Maria White Lowell
When on my ear your loss was knelled,
And tender sympathy upburst,
A little spring from memory welled,
Which once had quenched my bitter thirst.
And I was fain to bear to you
A portion of its mild relief,
That it might be as healing dew,
To steal some fever from your grief.
After our child’s untroubled breath
Up to the Father took its way,
And on our home the shade of Death
Like a long twilight haunting lay,
And friends came round, with us to weep
Her little spirit’s swift remove,
The story of the Alpine sheep
Was told to us by one we love.
They, in the valley’s sheltering care,
Soon crop the meadow’s tender prime,
And when the sod grows brown and bare,
The shepherd strives to make them climb
To airy shelves of pasture green,
That hang along the mountain’s side,
Where grass and flowers together lean,
And down through mist the sunbeams slide.
But naught can tempt the timid things
The steep and rugged paths to try,
Though sweet the shepherd calls and sings,
And seared below the pastures lie,
Till in his arms their lambs he takes,
Along the dizzy verge to go;
Then, heedless of the rifts and breaks,
They follow on, o’er rock and snow.
And in those pastures, lifted fair,
More dewy-soft than lowland mead,
The shepherd drops his tender care,
And sheep and lambs together feed.
This parable, by Nature breathed,
Blew on me as the south-wind free
O’er frozen brooks, that flow unsheathed
From icy thraldom to the sea.
A blissful vision, through the night,
Would all my happy senses sway,
Of the good Shepherd on the height,
Or climbing up the starry way,
Holding our little lamb asleep,—
While, like the murmur of the sea,
Sounded that voice along the deep,
Saying, “Arise and follow me!”

As harvesting season arrived, the farm became a bustling hive of activity. Y/N took it upon herself to teach Bucky how to harvest various crops—barley, potatoes, and corn. Bucky, unfamiliar with the manual labor involved, struggled under Y/N's watchful eye.
Y/N, with her deep understanding of farming, didn't hold back. She pushed Bucky to his limits, demonstrating the relentless nature of the work.
Bucky swung the sickle in an awkward arc, nearly tripping over a clump of harvested barley. Y/N, standing nearby, couldn't hold back a chuckle. "Easy there, Bucky. The crops are the enemies, not your feet."
Bucky shot her a mock glare. "Well, someone needs to tell these crops that I'm in charge now."
Y/N smirked, "I think the crops are winning this battle." She gestured towards a particularly rebellious potato that had rolled away from Bucky. "That one looks like it's staging a great escape."
Bucky lunged after the rogue potato, and in his pursuit, he accidentally knocked over a pile of harvested corn. Y/N raised an eyebrow, "Careful, Bucky. We're not going for crop domination here."
Bucky huffed, "Who knew vegetables could be so cunning?"
Y/N teased, "You've never been outsmarted by a carrot before?"
Now attempting to corral the runaway potato, Bucky grinned, "Not until today, apparently."
Together, they loaded the truck with the harvested crops, and Y/N took Bucky to the factory to sell his produce.
Bucky, gazing at the neatly packed crates, felt a mix of accomplishment and sadness. "I can't believe I did this," he muttered, pride evident in his voice.
Y/N, steering the truck, acknowledged, "You've come a long way. But remember, this is just the beginning."
Arriving at the factory, Bucky's excitement was tempered by the impending debt repayment. "It's hard seeing the money go as quickly as it comes," he confessed.
Y/N, empathizing with his concerns, added, "Farm life is a constant juggle. It's not just about growing crops; it's managing the business too."
Seeing the exhaustion on Bucky's face, Y/N decided it was time for a break. Wanting to lift his spirits, she proposed, "How about we take a break from farming? I'll teach you how to ride Alpine. It's a good skill for handling the cows and sheep."
Bucky, eager for a change of pace, agreed. "Sure, I've ridden horses before, but handling other animals seems like a different ball game."
Y/N smirked, "Well, let's make it interesting. How about a little race? You and me."
Bucky's eyes lit up with excitement. "Now, that's something I can get behind. You're on!"
Then both of them heard a female voice "Bucky."
Both of them turn around. Bucky shock seeing his crush Kate is standing behind the gate.
Kate, the supermodel, stood at the gate, casting an unexpected shadow on the carefree atmosphere of the race. Bucky's initial thrill turned into visible tension as he hastily fixed his hair and adjusted his clothes.
Y/N, sensing the shift in mood, couldn't help but feel a twinge of irritation at Bucky's sudden self-consciousness.
Feeling a surge of discomfort, Y/N excused herself, leaving Bucky to face Kate on his own. As she walked away, she couldn't shake the inexplicable irritation bubbling within her.
Kate's charming smile, as she approached Bucky, masked the intricate calculations whirring in her mind. She had been privy to Bucky's infatuation with her before he vanished from the social scene.
Recognizing the potential benefits of a connection with the heir to one of the largest companies in the US, Kate played the game, letting him believe she was unattainable.
However, her carefully laid plans crumbled when Bucky disappeared without a trace. Undeterred, Kate used her resources and connections to track him down, eventually learning about his new life through his friend Steve.
Adjusting her strategy, she decided to cast aside the hard-to-get persona and adopt the role of a supportive friend.
Behind her friendly demeanor and supportive gestures, Kate's mind worked strategically. She aimed not only to rekindle a connection with Bucky but also to seamlessly transition into the role of his girlfriend.
Her calculated moves were a testament to her determination to secure a position in Bucky's life, now that he had resurfaced.
Bucky, taken aback by Kate's unexpected appearance, tried to compose himself. "Oh, hey, Kate. It's been a while, huh?"
Kate, wearing an expression of concern, responded, "Yeah, I was getting a bit worried. You vanished from the scene, and no one knew where you went. Are you okay?"
Bucky, feeling a bit flustered, scratched the back of his head, "Yeah, I'm good. Just needed a break, you know?"
Kate's eyes widened with faux surprise, "A break? I thought something serious happened. Steve made it sound like you went off the grid or something."
Bucky chuckled nervously, "Well, I guess I did, but it's been refreshing. Found a new way of life."
As Kate admired the farm's vast fields and rustic charm, Bucky tried to conceal the fact that this wasn't exactly what Kate had envisioned.
Nevertheless, he maintained a friendly demeanor, "It's a simple life, but it's peaceful. I find it relaxing."
Kate, looking around, hesitated before offering a diplomatic compliment, "Oh, yes, it's... quaint. I can see the appeal of a different pace."
Feeling proud of his newfound lifestyle, Bucky suggested, "Wanna ride Alpine and check out the animals?"
Kate agreed, trying to mask her reluctance. However, her expensive skirt wasn't the most practical choice for a farm adventure. When she realized the potential damage, regret flickered across her face.
Kate gracefully mounted Alpine, trying to maintain her composed demeanor. However, the unfamiliar scent surrounding Bucky caught her off guard.
His essence, now marked by the unmistakable fragrance of sweat and farm work, starkly contrasted to the polished and perfumed Bucky she had known.
As they rode through the fields, Kate discreetly held her breath, attempting to mask her discomfort. The rural aroma infiltrated her senses, making her regret joining Bucky on this rustic adventure.
She couldn't help but long for the lavish events and pristine environments where she and Bucky had previously crossed paths.
Suppressing her unease, Kate smiled and engaged in small talk with Bucky. Deep down, she calculated each word and gesture, determined to leave a lasting impression on the heir to the Barnes empire. Her plan to become the next Mrs. Barnes depended on it.
Amidst the forced smiles, Kate's mind raced. 'This wasn't what I signed up for. I envisioned a glamorous romance, not riding through dirt and sweat. But he's the Barnes heir, and I need to adapt.'
Arriving at Bucky's house, Kate's expectations collide with reality. The modest farmhouse stood as a testament to the simplicity of farm life. She couldn't help but wonder why Bucky, supposedly owning half the land, lived in such humble quarters.
If Bucky turned his head, he might have noticed the subtle surprise on Kate's face, mirroring his initial reaction to the farm.
Bucky, unaware of Kate's inner thoughts, proudly led her towards the house. "Here we are. Welcome to my little haven."
Kate, trying to maintain her composure, forced a smile. "It's... quaint."
Bucky, catching a glimpse of her expression, hesitated for a moment but quickly brushed it off. "Yeah, it's not the Ritz-Carlton, but it has its charm."
As they entered the house, Kate continued to assess her surroundings, her city-girl expectations clashing with the rural reality. Still excited to show her around, Bucky remained oblivious to Kate's growing disappointment.
Tumblr media
Y/N, engrossed in her tasks, huffed as she distributed hay to her horse. Toby, stopping by with honey from his grandparents, handed it to Y/N, who promptly thanked him and handed over the payment.
Toby, curious, mentioned seeing Bucky with a famous model named Kate Hasting. Y/N, unfamiliar with Kate due to her lack of social media presence, tilted her head in confusion. Toby, enthusiastic, informed her about Kate's status as an 'It girl.'
Y/N, intrigued, stopped her work and focused on Toby. "Hasting?" she queried, contemplating the revelation.
Toby nodded, "Yeah, that's the one."
"Hmm, interesting," Y/N murmured, her curiosity piqued.
Noticing Y/N's interest, Toby continued, "Yeah, she's a big deal on social media right now."
Y/N, still puzzled, questioned, "Why is she looking for Bucky?"
Toby shrugged, "No idea. Maybe she likes him or something."
Y/N, maintaining her nonchalant demeanor, Y/N responded, "Well, that's his business, not mine."
Toby chuckled, "True, but it's kinda exciting, don't you think? The city coming to our little farm."
Y/N smirked, "Exciting or not, I've got work to do. Thanks for the honey, Toby."
Toby waved as he left, leaving Y/N to ponder the unexpected arrival of a city celebrity to their rural haven.

He was perfect, you were perfect. It was meant to be You don’t really know how all of this happened. One day you’re in the big city, good job, good relationship.. The next day, you’re moving out, fired and single. You decided to move out to the countryside, you need a detox from the big city. You settled into a small farm, other farms surrounding you.
When you got settled you had no animals on the farm, just some old beehives from the previous owner and cat who came with the house called, Mittens. You were happy, but you wanted a purpose on your land. You ordered some cows, sheeps and chicken and fixed up the beehives and now you had a purpose. The catch is, you didn’t know anything about farming. You decided this would be a good time to introduce yourself to your neighbours. On your left hand side you had, Steve. He was tall, blonde and very strong. He showed you the right food to buy for your cattle and how to shear the sheep in the summer and where to sell it to. Two doors down from you was Tony, he was the techy one, he showed you which tractors and ploughs to invest in. On your right you had Ari, he didn’t really show you anything, he was too busy checking you out and just told you if you needed any heavy lifting to come to him. Wanda and Nat lived next to Ari, they showed you their beehives and how to care for them. Jake was the last on the street, he gave you some started seeds for berries and flowers which you were very thankful Then there was Bucky, he lived a few doors down from Steve. He had farmland and lots of experience. You knocked on his door and your breath was taken away when he opened the door. He was gorgeous, tall, muscular, dark brown hair and a scruffy face. He was perfect. You gave him a sheepish smile before speaking. “Hi, I’m y/n, I moved in a few weeks ago and I’m jus’ setting up my land now and I was wondering if you had any tips or tricks”. He smiled softly at you and opened his door wider. “Why don’t you come in, honey. I got a book of buyers and sellers that can help you”. You blushed and took his offer, stepping in and the smell of vanilla and oak overcame you. “I’m Bucky, by the way”. He led you into the kitchen and stuck on the kettle and began rummaging around looking for the book. “I assume you met everyon- oh please tell me you haven’t talked to Ari?” You giggled softly and he groaned. “God he tries to get his hand on every woman who come onto the street, you should have seen how disappointed he was when he found out Wanda and Nat were lesbians” You laughed softly and he smiled at you. “You have a beautiful laugh”
You blushed hard and he handed you the book, filled to the brim with leaflets and cards. “Woah, thank you Bucky” “You’re welcome, honey. Would you like some tea?” You smiled and nodded as you began flicking through the book, but got a little shocked when a white fluffy cat jumped up on the table. The cat purred and nudged his head under your hand, you gently rubbed him and smiled when Bucky turned back. “I see you’ve met Alpine” “Aw! That’s such a cute name.” You kept petting him as Bucky handed you your tea and soon enough Alpine nestled down on the chair beside you. “So tell me about yourself, y/n. What's a gorgeous girl doing out here on a farm all alone”. You blushed at his slight compliment and told him the whole story of how and why you moved out leaving him in awe. “That’s quite the life story, honey”. You nodded and finished your tea. “Don’t I know it” You looked over at the clock and then out the window to where the sun was setting. You closed over the book and looked at Bucky. “I should probably get going now, I have a lot of animals to feed now” You both chuckled and you gave the book back to Bucky but he refused. “Keep it, honey. You need it more than I do”. You smiled and gave him a quick hug before leaving.
Tumblr media
The next few months were amazing for you. Flowers and plants began blossoming up all over your land, all your animals were healthy and producing well and you were getting close with all your neighbours. You and Steve would constantly bake on the weekends and you, Wanda and Natasha would all package up honey to sell. But you also grew closer to Bucky, you could sense that something was there. You just didn’t know what. You would constantly have tea at his house, sometimes bringing whatever baked goods you and Steve made that weekend and him teaching you the tricks of the trade. But then it all kinda stopped. Bucky stopped inviting you over and slowly started to stop coming out onto the road. You vented your heart out to the girls about how you were feeling and they felt awful for you, but there wasn’t much they could do, there wasn’t much anyone could do. So you gave up. You realised he must not feel the same and that nothing was going to happen. But that’s not what was happening. Bucky wanted you so bad that he had to distance himself from you, too worried to upset you, or make you uncomfortable that he literally had to take himself away from you. You were out the next day, scraping up some honey from your beehives as mittens flops and rolls around the grass beside you. You spotted someone walking up the lane and soon realised it was Bucky. You quickly dropped your scraper and began taking off your bee suit and running over to him. You opened your gate and ran down to him. “Bucky! Hey Bucky!” He turned and gave you a nervous smile. “H-hey, honey” You gave him a big hug and gently rocked side to side. “I’ve missed you so much! Where have you been?” “Jus’ been a bit down, lovely”. You frowned at his words. “Well why don’t you come over for a picnic later”. Bucky smiled softly and nodded, making you squeal with excitement. “How about four? Oh! And bring Alpine too, he can play with mittens. You smiled and let Bucky start walking again. “See you later!!”. You ran back to your house and instantly began preparing. You made your best sandwiches and picked your best strawberries, and got the best bottle of champagne from Wanda and Natahsa and packed up some of the cookies you and Steve made this weekend. You showered and got changed quickly, putting on a small sundress covered in little flowers. You went down to your field with your basket and blanket in one hand and mittens in the other. You laid it down and placed mittens on it before setting up the platter of food and laying little flowers on it. You sat down once you saw Bucky walking up the lane. He walked in your gate, Alpine trotting along behind him, you waved at him and he waved back. You stood up and hugged him as he got the blanket. “Hi Bucky” “Hi Honey” you both smiled and sat at the blanket and you showed Bucky. “I made ham and cheese sandwiches, picked and washed some strawberries from my greenhouse, those are cookies me and Steve last weekend and I stole some champagne from Wanda and Nat.” Bucky smiled widely at you. “Wow y/n, this all looks amazing.. You really didn't have to do all this for me”
“But I wanted to, you said you were feeling down, plus you helped me so I help you”. He smiled at you with so much love in his eyes and looked at the food. “Can I try one of your sandwiches?” You nodded and handed him one and you both began to eat. As you both ate you talked over how life has been and how you both were. By the end of the picnic, your head was resting on Buck’s shoulder and both the cats were snuggled up together. He gently stroked your arm and inhaled the scent of your hair as you watched the sunset. “I missed this honey, I missed us”. You sat up and looked at him, gently stroking his face. “I missed it too..  I got really worried about you. Why were you down Buck?” He sighed and rubbed his forehead. “I can’t tell you sweetheart” You pouted and moved your hand to his chin. “Yes you can..” Once he heard that, he gently moved his face closer to yours and kissed you softly, taking you by surprise but you kissed him back. The kiss slowly became more and more passionate as Bucky brought his hands to the side of your face and mumbled out. “That’s why I’ve been down.. Couldn't have you”. He kissed you more and you crawled into his lap. “I want you too Bucky”. You moaned out into the kiss making him pull away. “You sure?”
“Positive.” Bucky quickly scoops up you and two cats before running back to your house. He dropped the two cats off at the door and brought you upstairs as he kissed you more. He kicked open your bedroom door and laid you on the bed, groaning at the sight of your perked nipples through your dress. He pulled off his flannel and his vest before kneeling between you and kissing down the outside of your dress. “Fuck, you’re gorgoeus, honey”. He kept going down before laying flat on his stomach and flipping your dress up and tugging down your pretty white panties revealing your dripping core. Bucky licked a stripe up your pussy and groaned. “Yup.. sweet like honey” Bucky ate you out like a starved man as you fisted his hair up in your hand and rocked your hips into his face before coming all over it. You panted as he kissed back up to your lips. You swirled your tongue around his mouth, your taste still lingering as your hand went down into his jeans. You began to gently stroke him, making him groan into your mouth but suddenly he pulled your hand out. “That’s for another day, baby. I need to be inside you”. You moaned at his words and pulled off your dress and bra as he undid his boxers. But then looked at you with a frown. “Condom?” but you winked back “pill”
He pushed in softly but fast, making you scream in pleasure as he bottomed out. “That’s it baby, take my cock”. You moaned and arched your back as he began to slam into you, holding your waist. “Fuckin’ dreamed of this honey”. He laid on you, holding your face as he kissed and fucked you. You tugged on his hair, wrapping your legs around his waist  and digging your heels into his lower back. Bucky groaned and sucked a small hickey. “Taking me so well, baby, I’m all in there”. You moaned louder and louder as you clenched around him. “Oh fuck honey! You close already?” You moaned and your cheeks went flushed red. “Sorry” “No No please don’t apologise, I’m close too”. He panted into your ear, rocking his hips fast as you kissed him again. He moaned into your mouth. “Cum for me baby” You moaned loudly and clenched hard around him, causing his own orgasm to wash over him. You both froze, staring at each other as your highs slowly faded. You brought your hand up and stroked your thumb over his flushed cheek before he kissed you softly. Bucky pulled out slowly and quickly ran to your bathroom and grabbed a towel before coming back and wiping you both down. He tossed the clothes onto the floor and helped you under the covers, holding you close. “Get some rest, honey. You need it” you nodded and smiled before quickly falling asleep, Bucky following soon after.
Tumblr media
You wake up the next morning to the smell of pancakes floating through the house. You quickly grabbed Bucky’s flannel and put it on, running down stairs and hugging Bucky’s waist. He chuckled softly and hugged your arms. “Hi Bucky”
“Hi y/n, how’d you sleep beautiful?”
“So well” you replied back as you went over to the two cats, curled up on the couch. You went back over to Bucky and looked at him before speaking. “What happened last night, I ho-”. Bucky cut you off with a kiss and chuckled softly. “No it wasn’t just a one time thing.. I want this with you honey… I want it all”. You kissed his cheek. “Good.. Cause i want it all too”
Bucky smiled at you and dished up the pancakes. “C’mon love, lets go have this on the deck, maybe Ari will come out and believe me you don’t wanna miss his reaction when he realises he can’t have you either!”

Big-Time Bighorn Sheep
Found throughout the Rocky mountains of western North America, the bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis) is one of only two sheep native to the continent. They mainly inhabit rocky alpine meadows, at elevations of 800-2500 m (5,000-8,500 ft). The subspecies Ovis canadensis nelsoni occupies lower elevations, and lives in the deserts of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico.
Bighorn sheep are named for the large, curling horns-- known as curls-- carried by the males, or rams. These horns weigh as much as all the rest of the ram’s bones put together, up to 14 kg (30.8 lbs). Males themselves weigh up to 127 kg (279.8 lbs) and stand 105 cm (41 in) tall at the shoulder. Females, or ewes, are much smaller, at 91 kg (200 lbs) and 90 cm (35 in), and their horns are shorter. Both sexes sport short, grey-brown coats with white underbellies and behinds. Their hooves are split, and well adapted to cling to rocks and steep cliffs as they forage.
O. canadensis is herbivorous, and spends most of the day searching for grasses and brush to graze on. In addition, many bighorn sheep can be found at naturally-occurring salt licks where they can acquire minerals not available in their primary diet. Despite their large size and hazardous home environment, bighorn sheep can be hunted by wolves, bears, lynx, and mountain lions. Lambs are particularly targeted, and can even become food for golden eagles which are large enough to carry them away.
Outside the mating season, males and females live in separate groups. Often times, the males will form homosexual societies, in which members of a group court and mount each other in the same way they do females. Some rams, however, chose to live with the ewes and their young, and adopt a number of female mannerisms- though they refuse to be mounted by males.
Rutting season begins in September or October, and lasts through early December. During this period, rams engage in the head-to-head combat for which they are famous in order to construct a social hierarchy. Once this structure is established, males begin courting the females; ewes will accept multiple partners while in oestrus, which lasts for about three days. They then carry their young for 150-180 days before giving birth to one or two lambs. These young are extremely precocial, and after a few weeks will form groups of their own and seldom return to their mothers. Individuals reach sexual maturity at one or two years old, and can live anywhere from 7 to 19 years in the wild.
Conservation status: The bighorn sheep’s population has been severely reduced due to overhunting, introduced diseases, and competition from livestock. Several of O. canadensis’s subspecies are endangered. However, the species as a whole is considered Least Concern by the IUCN.

Now I’m kind of interested in knowing what other weird things Steve has said or done
Here’s my little list titled “Insane shit the love of my life has said/done”
1. “Baby, would you still love Alpine if she was a chicken? She wants to know.”
2. I found him watching Buzzfeed Unsolved at 3 AM while furiously writing notes. When I asked him what he was doing he said “I gotta figure ‘em out.”
3. Was fully convinced our house was haunted by a poltergeist because he kept finding dead animals at our door. Once I caved and put up a camera to record “paranormal activity” we realized it was just Alpine.
4. “I feel like we celebrate Halloween because we have clown blood in us.”
5. He’s tried to watch The Conjuring by himself and ran into our room sobbing
6. Has sobbed over Grimace, the McDonalds mascot
7. Has once tried some of Alpine’s food “just for kicks”
8. “Are we trojan horsing Iceland?”
9. “Listen, Sam, it doesn’t matter when I die, just that I don’t do it in a coal related incident.”
10. “Italians are a lot hotter than they were in the 40’s” (he was talking about the band Måneskin)
11. Has called multiple politicians “motherfuckers” on live TV
12. Started singing The Beatles in his sleep, and had no memory of it once he woke up
13. Has rescued multiple sheep and then just continued on the mission without a word.
14. Once solved a decades old murder because he was bored
15. I’ve caught him listening to gruesome cult podcasts while baking in a frilly apron.
I love getting asks, and this was so fun to answer!! Thank you!!!

On April 21st 1838, the naturalist John Muir was born.
Born in Dunbar, East Lothian, his parents were Daniel Muir and Ann Gilrye. He was the third of eight children: Margaret, Sarah, David, Daniel, Ann and Mary (twins), and the American-born Joanna. His earliest recollections were of taking short walks with his grandfather when he was three.
In his autobiography, he described his boyhood pursuits, which included fighting, either by re-enacting romantic battles from the Wars of Scottish Independence or just scrapping on the playground, and hunting for birds' nests As a child, he was raised under a strictly religious upbringing.
John Muir was a naturalist, conservationist, explorer, and writer. At age 11, his family immigrated to the United States from Scotland and settled in Wisconsin. Muir learned to love the wilderness at an early age and even carved working locks out of wood. At age 21, he entered the University of Wisconsin, but left after three years. After suffering an eye injury while working in Indiana, Muir resolved to work in the wilderness.
In 1868, after roaming the North American continent, he landed in San Francisco. Muir explored California and was awestruck by its natural beauty. He soon became a successful writer, describing the landscapes and detailing the devastation of alpine meadows and forests by grazing sheep and cattle.
As a result of his efforts, Congress established Yosemite National Park in 1890. Muir was also involved in the creations of Sequoia, Mount Rainier and Petrified Forest National Parks. To protect the parks from poachers and land prospectors, Muir, and his supporters, formed the Sierra Club in 1892. He served as its president until his death in 1914.

Canis dingo, or maybe Canis lupus dingo, or maybe Canis familiaris dingo
Some researchers think dingoes are an ancient breed of domesticated dogs brought to Australia around 4,000 years ago by Asian seafarers. Others think they are a distinct species closely related to grey wolves and domestic dogs, similar to coyotes and jackals.
Either way, dingoes are very closely related to wolves and domestic dogs and are able to interbreed with them. Most dingoes in Australia now are mixed with many different dog breeds. One of these dingo-dog hybrids is the Australian cattle dog, which is a pretty popular dog breed used for herding cattle.
Tumblr media
Dingoes are found in every state of Australia except for Tasmania. The dingo’s relative, the New Guinea singing dog, is also found in the mountains of New Guinea. Named for their unique yodeling howls, singing dogs are one of the most endangered canines in the world. They were believed to be extinct in the wild until a small population was found two years ago.
Tumblr media
Those that live in the high Alpine habitats of southeast Australia are known as Alpine dingoes. They are often lighter in color and grow thicker coats than those that live in desert or forest habitats. Desert dingoes that live in northern Australia are the typical bright orange color. They are larger than other dingoes, generally weighing around 40 pounds (18 kg) with some reaching over 50 pounds (22.7 kg). There are dingoes that live in forests and have dark tan or black fur, but they are most likely not purebred.
Fraser Island off the east coast of Australia is home to around 200 dingoes. With no pet dogs on the Island, they are purebred. Fraser Island and Alpine dingoes are possibly the last populations that are not mixed with domestic dogs.
Tumblr media
Often living in packs of up to 12 individuals, dingoes are very social. The dominant male and female of these packs are the parents of all the others. They rarely bark to communicate with each other, instead using a variety of howls.
In areas with small prey like hares, rodents, and reptiles, dingoes generally hunt alone. They still might live in packs, but they only rest and play with each other. In areas with larger prey like kangaroos and sheep, they hunt as a pack. Their tendency to hunt sheep causes farmers to target them, so the dingo population is classified by some as vulnerable but by others as endangered due to poisoning, trapping, and shooting.
Dingoes hunt by ganging up on larger prey with multiple pack members or by scaring small prey out of thickets and then pouncing. They are very flexible so they can follow prey into tight spaces. Like a cat, if a dingo’s head can fit through something, its whole body can.
Tumblr media
Wandi ^
I would also like to mention Wandi, who is a very good dingo. He was dropped by an eagle into a backyard when he was 5 weeks old. It was discovered soon after that he was a rare alpine dingo, so he went to live at the Dingo Discovery Sanctuary and Research Centre. He’s helping protect the species and he even has his own Instagram account.
I rate the dingo 17/10. A very Australian animal

Mammals of the March of Maedhros
Fish, Birds, Flowers
Flora, fauna, geography and environment Masterlist
Other world building in the Himring tag!
The March of Maedhros was a cold realm in Northeastern Beleriand. It was located slightly Southeast of Dorthonion and south of the planes and meadowlands of Lothlann and Ard Galen. The March was a cold region with taiga forested hills and icy waters, including the sources of several rivers, namely Celon and Little Gelion which were located in the other Hills around Himring.
The March falls between the cold mountains on the Southern and Eastern borders of Dorthonion and the mountainous regions of the Gap and Thargelion on its own Eastern border.
Like my other posts of this kind I will include more world building notes at the end (relationship between people/elves and the fauna, symbology or significance of certain species in local cultures, etc), otherwise this would just be a long list of species. Please always feel free to ask more about this, it’s one of my favorite topics
Taiga and tundra: musk deer: reindeer, red squirrel, tundra wolf, altai mole, brown bear, snow vole, taiga shrew
Other forest: forest dormouse, northern birch mouse, pine marten, sable, common shrew, northern pika, moose, lynx
Hills and alpine meadow: grey marmot, forest steppe marmot, long tailed ground squirrel, wild horse, beech marten, northern badger
Northern reaches: snow leopard, wild yak, snow sheep
Throughout: red fox, brown hare, Eastern roe deer, field mouse
World building notes:
-As it’s probably obvious by the art in my background, the idea of snow leopards in the March is very important to me! Some of the most skilled among Maedhros’s captains hunted and scouted along side them and their image came to represent the ruthless, efficient and precise nature of his fighters in art and heraldry
-I also believe that they were wild otters in the rivers specifically northern Celon, the colder one, rather unique to the region. These were far larger than common otters and well adapted to the cold.
-Horses were brought in large numbers, including the descendants of Valinor horses. In the March they are bred for endurance, and ability to withstand the cold and train to respond to almost entirely non-verbal commands, especially by some sections of the scouts who ride them
-I always imagine a location or locations similar to Lake Baikal in Siberia, which is home the world’s only completely freshwater seal as well as cnidarian species that are not found anywhere else in the world. The seals in thr near frozen lake are abundant but are rarely slain. They are near inedible though their fat is highly useful for oils and their skins are occasionally used as well. The lake is located north of Himring and was originally the result of geologic activity in the Ered Engrin.
-Reindeer are kept by some of the Noldor and their allies in the more remote regions of the march. Their fur, skin, meat, and milk are all used.
-Pine martens and sables are dear to the Avarin groups of northeast Beleriand, some members even taking them as companions or scouts. They represent will and joy in stories and art
-I like to imagine smaller species of mammoths or woolly rhinos trek through the March on their search for fresh grass and vegetation.
As always please feel free to ask more, I really love world building and I always feel these posts are incomplete

Submitted via Google Form:
Hi, I'd like to build a planet with land across the entire planet that is mostly an alpine. I'm thinking that the majority of the land will be tall mountains with almost all shorelines being tall cliffs so even areas close to the ocean can quickly become tall mointains. Places near the equator will have the highest mountains to offset being closer to the sun. How about resources though? What would be abundant, what puld lack? How about other geographical features and conditions that allow a planet to look like this?
Tex: What happens when the tectonic plates meet? Mountains are created via only one type of plate movement (Wikipedia), but due to physics the opposite side of that plate would create the opposite result (Wikipedia). In order to dissipate the forces caused by a plate causing convergent and divergent boundaries, the horizontal movements of a transformation fault would develop (Wikipedia).
Resources can be boiled down to approximately two things: what grows in water, and what grows in soil. For the former, oceans, seas, lakes, and related areas would need to exist and be large enough to develop life of higher trophic levels. For the latter, it would need enough erosion of rocks to create soil, and be propagated by bacteria to facilitate a healthy environment to propagate photosynthetic life and the upper trophic levels that rely on it. (Birds exist, but also birds must roost, so for all intents and purposes they rely on what grows in soil.)
Anything that has above-water places high enough to create what we would subjectively perceive as mountains would have to be an extremely geologically-active planet, where the plates are constantly moving. This would mean things like lots of volcanoes, and likely an atmosphere saturated in gases like sulfur. Extremophiles can grow in these conditions, but because of energy conservation in a geologically-hostile environment, they’re not likely to grow very big.
If you wish for something different, it might be a “dead” planet, in which there’s little geological activity and the state of things like mountain ranges and placement of oceans are effectively locked into place. This would mean an inert core, and possibly a dying planet or else one in a solar system where it’s faced with a dying sun or outside the goldilocks zone of a reasonably active sun.
Addy: So, resources. That's my jam. If you've got a heavily alpine area, you're generally on mountains or mountain slopes, which generally means you're going to be on a whole bunch of rock. That rock could be sedimentary or metamorphic (igneous is also possible, basalt mountains do exist), but it's still rock. Things that rely on heavy amounts of soil - sand, clay, loam, otherwise - will struggle to form into industries.
You might have 3-4 feet of soil ("soil" includes sections that are mostly gravel – if you're looking for dirt, probably only a foot or two). Looking at a couple examples, I'd say you're probably going to get sandy loam, loamy sand, and gravelly loam. Great drainage, not good for food crops. Since you're alpine, that's going to mean you're above the tree line, so timber is going to be scarce as well. Neutral pH to somewhat alkaline, if that matters to ya. Also, above the tree line, the winds get to be very, very harsh - harsh enough that most plants can't survive up there, so crops are doubly not an option.
If you've got a freeze-thaw cycle, then the ground is going to sprout rocks every year in the spring (literally, the freeze-thaw cycle pushes rocks up towards the surface from under the ground, so you get new rocks in your fields every spring as it starts to thaw), so stone for walls and homes will be plentiful. Insulation will likely come from packed earth (e.g. Icelandic turf homes) or animal hides (e.g. yurts). Without good soil for growing, you're going to likely see a lot of animal husbandry - yaks, goats, oxen, and sheep. Maybe small horses, but no large horses; large, Western horse breeds don't do well if they're only grazing - they generally have feed grown for them. Draft horses are large enough that they have to have food grown for them. But ponies are an option.
Your sand will likely be difficult to get separated from the loam/gravel, so glass will be a tricky industry. Clay will be hard to find, so pottery is limited. Also limiting those industries is a lack of easily available fuel - without timber or peat, you've got limited options on what you have available to burn.
If, by alpine, you're also talking about mountain slopes (and maybe valleys?), then you'll have lots of timber. Lots and lots and lots of timber, so long as you don't clear-cut. Berries will be plentiful in the spring and fall, you'll generally have a decent supply of water, you can grow crops if you're careful about your growing seasons (and the ground acts as a refrigerator, so root cellars and similar structures act as a way to preserve food through the winter months), and you've got wild game to supplement.
Animal husbandry is still an option, though you'll almost certainly need to grow feed to keep them fed over the winter. Goats would do better than sheep, I think, but birds (chickens, ducks, partridge, geese) would probably be the easiest animal to raise. With birds, you'll also get down, which will help for quilts and bedding to keep yourself warm at night. Sheep/goats will get you wool, which will be good for clothing to keep warm. If you've got different animals, whatever birds/mammals they've got nearby that can fill the niche.
For fuel, you've got wood and charcoal. Charcoal is made from wood, and it burns hotter and cleaner than wood. Good for large kitchens… or for kilns. Or for metalworking. Or for writing/art. Wood is easier to get, and more suitable to everyday use.
Valleys tend to accumulate clay, gravel, or sand, depending on how fast the water flows. Steep slopes mean fast water, so you'll mostly get gravel. Mild slopes mean slow water, so you'll get a lot of clay (such as many river deltas, where they meet the ocean). Moderate slopes mean medium-speed water, so you'll get sand (or sand with gravel). River sand may not get you high-quality glass, but you can still make basic glass out of it. When the rivers freeze in the winter, you'll have lots of ice. That can be stored underground in ice houses, so that you have ice year-round.
For lime/quicklime, you'll need shells (so beach) or limestone (so depends on mountains type). Lime is used for a variety of things - making mortar for bricks, removing impurities when making iron, making concrete, etc - but you need limestone (or shells, like oyster shells) and fuel to make it. So that really depends on the type of stone the mountains are made of.
Salt may or may not be plentiful, depending on what the mountains are made of. You've got very little ocean access (since cliffs), so drying out seawater for salt isn't going to be effective for large-scale production.
Either way (with or without trees), trade will be difficult. Overland trade will have to deal with snow, ice, and uneven terrain (plus possible food issues for pack animals). Sea-based trade would have to deal with getting goods up or down those massive cliffs without damaging or dropping them..  and also getting people down there, too. Huge altitude changes.
Wootzel: If your main concern is having your planet chilly, you could look at Earth during the last ice age as inspiration. This would probably result in having a planet with a LOT of nigh-unlivable area near the poles, but it could be a way to make most of your land quite cold without having to rely as heavily on high altitudes, if that’s something you want to look into.
