one thing i need to start living by is “become the thing that you want” if i want friends who throw themed parties maybe i should start throwing those parties. if i want someone who writes me love letters maybe i should start writing letters for the people i love. if i want to hang out at museums and pretty cafes maybe i should invite my friends to these places. and maybe even then i won’t find the kind of people i want to be around. but then i would have become the exact person i want to be around. and maybe that’s good enough.

Stop shaming people for being passionate about the things that they love. Stop mocking people for having unusual interests. Like, honestly, I’m so tired of feeling embarrassed for being "too much". If being too much means having deep interests that fill my life with romanticism and excitement, then let me be!! I’d much rather listen to anyone ranting about their latest obsession with 16th century swords than have a boring ordinary conversation with those who shame passionate people.

Romanticizing Your Life (in a way that won't drain your bank account)
Make a happy playlist and listen to it while going on a walk
start a journal (doesn't have to be consistent, just when you have something to say)
Try baking something (I suck at baking, so if you've ever broken a stove or an oven, this idea is NOT for you)
Try drinking water. In a real glass. You're going to feel so fancy.
Light some candles and buy some flowers for yourself.
Put on a face mask (This never fails to make me feel like the main character)
Watch the sunrise or sunset (If you live far away from a place where you can see it then drive.)
Read a book
Take the newspaper and find the crossword section. Take this to a coffee shop and do it there with your favorite drink (I've been doing this once week and it is genuinely the best part of my day)
Try smiling more. Not in a weird way, but people will react kindly to you if you show them kindness. Its gonna make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Paint your nails a color you like (as someone who never has her nails painted, this makes me feel so bougie)
Listen to a podcast. Doesn't have to be a serious one. Either way you'll feel so mature.
TAKE A BUBBLE BATH. I don't do this very often but oh my gosh. I wish I did. It's so relaxing. You could even up it by playing relaxing music from your phone and pretending you're in a spa.
Make your space yours. I mean your room should look like a physical representation of your personality. If this means there are paint splatters on the walls and rubber ducks hanging from the ceiling thats okay. If it means the whole room is painted black and there are 3 pieces of furniture, this is okay. As long as you love it and it makes you feel comfortable.
Give yourself a signature scent. This isn't hard, you don't need to spend thousands of dollars on perfume. Just find a scent you really like, go to the drug store, and buy conditioner, shampoo, body wash, and lotion all with this scent. After you shower, use the lotion all over. This will make you smell like your scent and it's amazing. I started doing this a few months ago and I've gotten so many compliments on how I smell. You don't realize how big a compliment that is until you get it. Trust me.
Of course this is all for fun and you don't have to do any of it if you don't want to, but I think its a cute way to bring a little spark of joy into your daily lifestyle.
♡ Have fun! ♡

I am made of everything I love. I am made of your love for cinnamon incense. Your copper hair phase. Your childhood bear. Your coffee, taken hot and with oat milk, always.

there is always more than what is happening today. maybe today sucked. that’s okay. there’s always tomorrow. maybe you’ll bake cookies, and see a cat on your way to work or school. maybe next week you’ll see your friend for the first time in a while, and you’ll feel at home again. maybe next year you’ll feel happier than you thought possible. there are always new movies to watch, animals who want petting, books to read, candles to light, a comfy bed to come home to. today’s only a snapshot of your life. maybe tomorrow will be a prettier one. you got this.

dark academia on a poor university student budget
Because tuition is expensive and my job doesn't pay much.
•─•°•❀•°•─•
Letter-writing. Decorate the margins with simple doodles that you know they'd appreciate. Find your own, distinctive sign-off. (You can also do this online by customising emails, Google Docs links, etc.)
Libraries. Campus libraries and their hum of student chatter. Once they begin to get too loud for your liking, visit a public library and study amongst the towering shelves.
Thrifting. Slowly phase old porcelain tableware into your kitchen. Walk to class in a gently-battered long coat. Thumb through copies of classics with worn corners and an old love note on the inside cover. Especially if you find an ornate teacup or mug that you can keep at your study space to be completely yours.
Make it yourself. Press flowers between heavy books and use them as decoration in your journal or sketchbook. Cut up some scrap paper and make bookmarks with your favourite book quotes.
Explore. Wander around public parks in your favourite pullover or blazer, taking photos or sketching whatever it is that catches your interest. Investigate back corridors and secret passages on your campus.
Read all those books in your TBR. (I know you have a lot on there.)
Journal, write, sketch, paint, compose... indulge in whatever creative respite you choose. Create.

"Stop Romanticizing Tech" 👩💻 Software Engineer's Realistic Day
i've heard a lot of peers in tech say they wish people would "stop romanticizing tech" because of their personal experience with burnout and stress and more recently, AI and layoffs. all their complaints resonated with me and for a time, i also saw each day as a painful slog.
but i think just a pinch of romanticism and optimism can go a long way towards seeing possibilities and opportunities where others may not. we're already here, after all, at this point of uncertainty and chaos. if we tell ourselves that we can't see it any other way, we only suffer twice.
so regardless of your circumstances, i hope that as you acknowledge the reality, you also see everything that could be 💛
morning!! 🌇
woke up 30 minutes before my alarm!! ⏰ been trying to fix my sleep schedule / body clock, so this is a major win!
leisurely morning routine and breakfast before work is sooooo important!! 🥞
peer-review code (~13x!!)🏃♀️
fixed a major bug!! 🐛 and two other bugs i found because i'm an overachiever like that 💁♀️
went to an interesting lunch and learn!! 😋
afternoon... 🏙️
hot-fix!! 🔥🚒 (for a component that somehow got left out of a recent migration...)
meeting with some beta testers that went really well ☺️ i'm so proud since i led the project and endured a lot... like, A LOT for it 🥲
another meeting, this time to finalize documentation across teams in preparation for release... kinda boring tbh, but necessary 🤝
set up even MORE monitoring in preparation for release + clean up some tech debt while i'm at it 🖥️
evening~ 🌆
meetings with my manager and manager's manager 💼 i can't deal with office politics, tbh, so i just view these as catch ups with older friends who i happen to work with...
internal testing meeting for a colleague's project~ 👏
company-wide meeting~ (basically my time to be nosy about all the other departments) 👀
💌: until next time~! 🧡

how to be that girl ~
have a signature everything. scent, nail colour, hairstyle, make-up (as in like a defining statement maybe eyeliner), accessory?
have a morning and night routine.
genuinely pretty people are always kind. be nice, give compliments on small things. because pretty isn’t just on the outside it’s inside too.
be your main priority. take care of your mind, energy, mental health, and body. work out, eat healthy food, meditate, read and do fun things. Become your own best friend and take care of yourself.
be independent and confident. don’t hold on to people who drain your energy; confront them or cut them off.
jealousy is a disease. take inspiration from those who have what you want, look up to them and learn.
tell people your here. share your thoughts, be funny, don’t take yourself too seriously, be open-minded and as present as you can be
stop caring. peoples opinions shouldn’t matter to you. nice fit? Wear it. Hungry? Eat.
don’t overthink. focus on the present and live in the moment.
you’re loved 🩰🦢🚬🕯️
