Habits that changed my life for the better
I stopped joking about myself. It was mostly about suicide jokes (it was a decision that I made after the worst moment of my journey with depression, if I can call it that), but, really, it's about all self-deprecating stuff. It may be just jokes, but it stays in your brain.
Positive attitude. It's similar to manifestation, in a way, but in a... down to earth way, I guess. Thinking positively about stuff changes everything for me. Almost everything is simpler.
I deleted Twitter. It may be a different social media for everyone, of course - now probably TikTok for most - but, well, Twitter was where I spent long hours everyday. I started taking breaks from it about a year and a half ago and deleted it in August. It was hard - I loved the community there and I miss the daily updates from my fav fandoms, but it's for the best. I still can't explain how Twitter affected me but I do feel better since I stopped spending so much time there.
Taking vitamins. I didn't think it would really make a difference but it definitely did. The biggest surprise for me was vitamin C - my immune system has improved super quickly when I started supplementing it. I didn't even realise how bad it was before. Other than that, I take B complex, A+E (hair, skin), and iron (i tend to have a deficiency of it). (& D when it's winter).
Having a consistent skin care routine. It's calming and both doing the routine and seeing the effects make me feel better. (I do realise that many people have more demanding skin than me and searching for the right products can be frustrating and expensive. I'm just talking about my experience).
Other things that I think are worth mentioning:
Therapy - just a short explanation that I've been on therapy (with breaks) for about 6 years now. I've had social anxiety for most of my life, now still struggle with depression (and amnesia, actually) a bit, but what I wanted to mention here is that I learned a lot from it. It's obvious, but I just think it's important to pinpoint that I did not just learn how to think more positively and love myself by myself.
Exercising! - I still struggle to make it a habit, but when I actually do exercise regularly (I do pilates), I really feel better. It's worth it.
Hydration - same with drinking water. I really don't think I have to explain it in any way lol.

"Stop Romanticizing Tech" 👩‍💻 Software Engineer's Realistic Day
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i've heard a lot of peers in tech say they wish people would "stop romanticizing tech" because of their personal experience with burnout and stress and more recently, AI and layoffs. all their complaints resonated with me and for a time, i also saw each day as a painful slog.
but i think just a pinch of romanticism and optimism can go a long way towards seeing possibilities and opportunities where others may not. we're already here, after all, at this point of uncertainty and chaos. if we tell ourselves that we can't see it any other way, we only suffer twice.
so regardless of your circumstances, i hope that as you acknowledge the reality, you also see everything that could be 💛

morning!! 🌇
woke up 30 minutes before my alarm!! ⏰ been trying to fix my sleep schedule / body clock, so this is a major win!
leisurely morning routine and breakfast before work is sooooo important!! 🥞
peer-review code (~13x!!)🏃‍♀️
fixed a major bug!! 🐛 and two other bugs i found because i'm an overachiever like that 💁‍♀️
went to an interesting lunch and learn!! 😋
afternoon... 🏙️
hot-fix!! 🔥🚒 (for a component that somehow got left out of a recent migration...)
meeting with some beta testers that went really well ☺️ i'm so proud since i led the project and endured a lot... like, A LOT for it 🥲
another meeting, this time to finalize documentation across teams in preparation for release... kinda boring tbh, but necessary 🤝
set up even MORE monitoring in preparation for release + clean up some tech debt while i'm at it 🖥️
evening~ 🌆
meetings with my manager and manager's manager 💼 i can't deal with office politics, tbh, so i just view these as catch ups with older friends who i happen to work with...
internal testing meeting for a colleague's project~ 👏
company-wide meeting~ (basically my time to be nosy about all the other departments) 👀
💌: until next time~! 🧡

My reading routine
I have mentioned in a past post on reading tips that ever since I started following a reading routine my reading experience got so much better. I am sure that many people do not need a reading routine, but you might be more like me and benefit from setting habits. I thought it might be interesting to write a bit about what has been my reading routine for the past year or so, since I belive I have followed this routine for a little over a year now.
My reading routine started with a very spefic goal of mine, that turned into one of the bast habits I practiced daily. I wanted to start reading first thing in the morning, instead of spending time in front of my phone. Digital screens and lights are awful for my eyes, and I wanted to get my brain energized in the morning without buring my eyes at 6am. Here's how this whole thing started, I do not eat right away after waking up, so what I have been doing for a little over a year in the morning is to get up, make myself a cup of tea and sit under a blanket drinking my tea while reading a book. I have had so many benefits from implementing this habit, reading in the morning is a great way to slowly activate my brain after waking up, it makes me feel cozy, and as I said it prevents me spanding my first hours in front of a digital screens. It's also a great motivation to get out of bed, because I am excited to continue whatever story I am reading about. I try to read from half an hour to full hour each morning. It varies a lot from day to day, but in general I always get a lot of reading done.
The second chunck of time in which I like to read is on my lunch break. No matter what I have to do, whether I am working or studying in the afternoon, I like to take a bit of time after lunch to sit comfortably and read. Even before having a reading routine, on my first year of university I remember sitting in the university halls near the biggest windows to read a bit after I had my lunch, while I waited for my classes. It's not usually the most productive time, because eating doesn't alwasy make me feel super energizied right away, but it's a really relaxing thing to do. I slowly read for a while, and if I am reading any non-fiction that isn't meant for class it's usually the time of day I do it. I now rarely have lunch on my own, but when I do I often have my book open as I read, mostly because it makes me a little slower while eating, which is something I should learn how to do without external help, but I am far from it.
Lastly the final reading moment I try to have every day is right before bed. Again I want to avoid digital screens before sleeping, so I try to read for at least half an hour. This is by far the least productive moment for reading, and when I can I try to read graphic novels that don't require too much focus.
Aside from this base routine I have other potential reading moments during the day depending on what I am doing:
I like to read when I commute on the bus, even on my shorter rides (the shorter rides I travel on are about 20 minutes long, the longer are around one hour and a half). I used to get car sick, but I have commuted so much on the same streets that I am almost immune to those, so reading is a great past time. If I am particularly tired an audiobook is a great option in those moments.
I have fully merged the habits of listening to audiobooks while going on walks on my own, it's a lovely combo, especially if I am walking in nature. When I was studying from home it was my favourite way to take a break from school work in the mornings.
Other activities like baking/cooking, drawing and crocheting are also often accompanied by audiobooks, I love pairing these things together. And another activity I have often found myself doing while listening to audiobooks have been sudoku puzzles, for some reason the two things work amazingly for my brain. (Additionally doing puzzles is also a great activity to combine an audiobook with, and lately I have been playing a lot of simple logic games while listening to books).
When I am studying at home and my father cooks lunch so I don't have to think about that I like to finish studying around half or three quarters of an hour before eating and I often read a bit in that time.
Similarly I like to sometimes read a bit before dinner, usually something a bit more lighthearted. I feel like this is again a great moment to read graphic novels.
If you are looking to create a reading routine of your own, I would suggest paying attention at your normal daily habits. Often the times of the day your screen time is higher can be a good idea for when to read, but you could also look for activities you have to do like cooking, or cleaning and merge them with listening to an audiobook. I would also recommend having more than one book on your currently reading list, so that depending on the time of day and your levels of energy you can switch. I would never read a non-fiction book before bed, but as I said it's a lovely time for graphic novels. Considering your energy levels it's a great thing not to feel forced to pick a books up. Overall you should read when you feel like doing so, there's no right or wrong if you are enjoying this activity. I really hope this has been of inspiration for someone, and I look forward to hear if anyone tries something similar out, thank you for reading!

maybe it's bc I just got out of the shower and have the Post Shower Motivation Boost but like. sometimes the best things someone can do to improve their day-to-day life isn't like the Big Monumental Lifestyle Changes and "buy this 20-step self help book/guided journal/fancy planner" (not to say I don't have my own fancy planner that I forgot to write in for a month) but more like. little changes/alternatives in daily habits that can help curb bad habits (without necessarily trying to abruptly cut them off) and making the shit you Can't Avoid more bearable where you can
If you have a habit of scrolling social media first thing in the morning and getting mad/upset/overstimulated before you even get out of bed but cutting out the Morning Scroll hasn't worked, or you need your phone on/close by and can't put it across the room to avoid morning scrolling altogether? Get an ebook (I recommend using Libby bc we love supporting public libraries) and put the app icon where your usual Morning Scroll social media usually is. chances are you'll go off of muscle memory and hit the same spot on your phone you usually do for your social media and open your ebook instead. And you'll probably either realize you were gonna get in a morning scroll loop and stop yourself and get started with your day... or you'll read your book and you still satisfy the part of your brain that Wants To Scroll while reading something less overstimulating than just post after post after post on social media
If you have work/schoolwork to do late at night and don't have time/opportunity to just go "fuck it" and do it in the morning? Sometimes it helps to get something comfy and put on music/ambience to help fit a certain Vibe while you work. Lo-fi is one of my go-tos, but putting on a dark/light academia mix with ambient noise like rain/writing sounds playing quietly in the background (this usually involves two youtube tabs) is also one of my usual choices because, while it unfortunately doesn't make my work magically done faster/due later so I can get to bed, it does help to sometimes feel like I'm a Pristine Scholar pursuing Crucial Academic Studies and not a tired college student who just wants to get their paper done and go to sleep
If you have a hard time getting up in the mornings/getting through a morning routine? If you can - if you have a long enough morning routine/a living environment where it's safe/not disruptive to do so - take some of your favorite music, or any kind of music that makes you feel a little happier/less worried or tired, and don't make it your alarm - you'll likely associate it with having to get up and start to dislike it - but make it the music to which you set your morning routine. (Use earbuds if you're worried about waking roommates/family.) It won't make the morning come any later/give you more time to sleep, but in my experience, this made me look forward to getting to carry out my morning routine and thus... look forward more to the mornings themselves
And... yeah. It wont fix everything but sometimes just changing habits here and there can be really helpful

I fall into self condemnation rather easily. I have been having wonderful quiet time in the Word and Prayer at night and last night I was thinking how I used to do quiet time in the morning as well and for a moment I felt as if I had failed God because I have two small children who need me as soon as I wake up.
And I do read a quick chapter and go through a brief prayer list the first time I wake up with the baby after 3:30a (cause I set my phone to turn off all other apps at that time to remind me).
But even without that, I do not stand condemned before God.
These habits are worthy and important but they are to help me grow and thrive and connect with Christ, not to save me. I am not less saved because my morning quiet time is a bit brief. It's evidence of the Spirit's work in me that I long to draw near Christ throughout the day, always more than what I do now.
These habits are for my growth, not my salvation. I cannot habit myself to heaven. Christ's sacrifice, and my acceptance of it, already made me a co-heir with Christ.
There is freedom in knowing that.

The Wedding Day
-2 workouts yesterday!! And had a great day. Fasted until right before the rehearsal dinner, had a high protein snack before. NA cocktail in the bath after workout.
-had a nice bath; enjoying the solo time in my hotel.
-didn't oversleep.
-have my ex's sister with me for the primping.
-ran into the old friend in the hallway of the hotel. It is weird, she hasn't talked to me for quite awhile. But I mean, she is together/not-together with my ex.
-I had a protein breakfast. Plus coffee. Saved the fruit and oatmeal for later.
-ready to slay the day: getting hair & makeup done. Fancy dress. Wedding excitement.
-We are basically prepping for the reception and everything. Decorating. I am making myself useful.

Creating a Habit tracker : your key to building productive routines
In the pursuit of personal growth and productivity, establishing positive habits is crucial. A habit tracker can be a game-changer in this journey, helping you stay accountable, visualize your progress, and make adjustments along the way. In this article, we will explore the benefits of creating a habit tracker and provide a step-by-step guide to help you get started.
Benefits of Using a Habit Tracker:
Accountability: A habit tracker holds you accountable for your daily habits and provides a visual representation of your consistency.
Motivation: Seeing your progress and checking off completed habits can be incredibly motivating, encouraging you to keep going.
Awareness: A habit tracker helps you identify patterns, enabling you to understand which habits are working well and which need improvement.
Adaptability: By tracking your habits, you can easily identify areas for adjustment and make changes to optimize your routine.
Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Habit Tracker:
Define your habits: Identify the specific habits you want to track. Start with a few key habits to avoid overwhelm.
Choose a format: Decide whether you prefer a physical notebook, a digital app, or a printable template. Find a format that suits your preferences and lifestyle.
Set up your tracker: Create a grid or table with dates and habit columns. Customize it to include the habits you want to track.
Track and update daily: Consistently update your habit tracker every day, marking off completed habits and noting any missed ones.
Review and reflect: Regularly review your habit tracker to evaluate your progress, identify trends, and make adjustments as necessary.

the best night routines start in the morning
tips from an anxious psychology student who loves sleep 💤
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🌅 todos whenever you wake up:
our brains are wired to notice contrast, so take this time to show your brain what it's like to be awake! the more you wake up, the more you can wind down later~ some suggestions:
wash your face
brush your teeth
eat something!! (then take your supplements, don't take them on an empty stomach)
make your bed (for max freshness when you go back to sleep though, i recommend you leave your bed to air for at least a few hours)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
☀️ todos throughout the day:
now our goal is to tire ourselves out enough so that we can have happy sleeps later! we need to focus on both the mental and physical aspects of this. some suggestions:
exercise
learn something new
get sunlight (no, vitamin D doesn't count, although you should be taking your required supplements)
experience an emotional rollercoaster (not exactly recommended as it may backfire in the form of keeping you awake with a spiral of uncontrollable thoughts)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🎑 todos before bed:
the moment we've all been waiting for has arrived! while going to bed at a regular time helps with conditioning yourself to fall asleep, sometimes that's just not possible, so here are some other suggestions:
check your wake up alarms (are they set for the latest possible time? do you actually need an alarm?)
lie down in the dark while having a nonsensical conversation with yourself (our brains automatically tune out stuff that don't make sense, so trick your brain into tuning itself out — especially helpful in the event of an emotional rollercoaster kind of day)
use a comfortable sleep mask (blocks out all light even from peripheries but still allows you to breathe comfortably, isn't too tight around the head)
earbuds make pretty good earplugs or you can play white noise/soothing music/etc. to block out louder noises
feel free to add your own suggestions in the reblogs/comments~ sweet dreams! 🛌

Hello Tumblr,
So I missed a day, which was yesterday. I was soooo tired and had a headache, I just couldn't bear looking at a screen and typing anything 😩😩😭. I'm back today with an update on DAY 6 and DAY 7. They were both pretty much the same actually. I was able to achieve only two activities each. I did wall pushups and 30 seconds plank today. Does that even count as exercise? 🤔.
I don't want to lose my momentum, it's too early 😭😭. I'll work hard and put in effort. 💪💪
My todolist for day 6 goes as thus;
- Going to bed before midnight.
- Waking up at 5:00
- Meditating and Studying the word of God
- Morning Exercise
My todolist for day 7;
- Going to bed before midnight.
- Waking up at 5:00
- Meditating and Studying the word of God
- Morning Exercise
