It drives me mad how the hints to Kaminari's potential Villain family/connection to AfO are getting less and less subtle, yet the chances of an actual reveal or utilization of that are near fucking zero at this point because so much other stuff is going on.

Standing on the edge of a future undecided

Kaminari Denki/Shinsou Hitoshi with Villain/Traitor Kaminari. Future Fic, Shinsou's a Pro Hero, Angst. TW: Suicidal thoughts. 2,6k words

“Well look who the cat dragged in.”

Shinsou didn’t even bother to raise his guard when he heard the voice of the villain. His classmate. His friend. His lover. The traitor. The one who betrayed him the most.

“What? No snarky remark today? You won’t even raise your guard?”

Denki – no, Thundershock was mocking him. Normally Shinsou would at least pretend to fight back, to pretend like his heart wasn’t still an open wound whenever he met the villain, the person he had let closest to himself.

“You know lightning bug – if you truly wanted to kill me, you’re doing a piss-poor job at it.”

The old nickname still came so easily over his lips, like Denki had never betrayed him, like Shinsou hadn’t crashed harder than he ever had before. Denki had disappeared and had left nothing but pain and open wounds.

Shinsou called Thundershock ‘Lightning bug’ a lot. Did he want to mock Denki? Mock himself? Make sure Thundershock couldn’t use it against him? Hurt himself, bury the knife deeper? Dull the pain, lessen the meaning with each casual use? Remind Denki, remind himself of what they had and what they had lost?

Who did he really want to torment with that name?

Shinsou didn’t expect an answer. He knew he had to look back to see Denki sign. Thundershock was too clever to get caught in one of Shinsou’s many nets.

At the beginning Shinsou had wanted to catch Denki so bad, had wanted to catch him himself, just so he could scream all those unanswered questions into his face. The pain had dulled since then, and so had his desire to catch him. Shinsou had just accepted that Denki had taken a liking to appear around him.

Why?

Shinsou never allowed himself to dwell too much on it. Tonight, it was different. Tonight, Shinsou wouldn’t even care if Denki decided it was time to end the game and sent Shinsou tumbling over the edge. Shinsou continued talking even though he didn’t receive an answer. He had gotten used to those one-sided conversations.

Obligatory Villain!Kaminari Brainrot

So beside my obvious obsession with this AU/theory/headcanon whatever, there’s something that’s got me about Kaminari’s character for a long time now.

If you pay attention to it, or if you watch and read bnha in tinfoil hat mode like me, you might notice that there’s a lot of official art and manga panels where half or parts of his face are hidden.

I’ve really only started paying attention to it once I stumbled over the positive/negative charge/split personality theory. (Check out this video by Hokai on Youtube, it sums it up really well: https://youtu.be/4gH1dYDi3lA)

Now I need to make a slight distinction between panels or anime frames where he’s like half in the frame, which could be coincidences, and those instances, like in official art, that seem like they have a deeper meaning. For example that what we see of him is really only one side, and something else is hidden. A Villain family, a dark past, anger issues, some kind of dark side, or just a secret.

Some of the more obvious examples:

So this is the very obvious one that makes almost everyone go what the fuck a little. It's pretty old and I think it's actually the one that sparked the whole theory. Here his face is very obviously split in two, and it does not look like a coincidence. With this context, here some other ones:

Those still look pretty intentional. And his face in the fantasy AU? Holy fuck.

Then there's his fight with Shishikura, to date one of my favorite scenes in the manga, because it gives so freaking much thought material about about Kaminari's character. I made a whole own post about this, so I'll spare you the elaboration.

Here again. Pretty obvious. Pretty serious look. If I'm correct this is an official art by Betten Court, the artist of the Vigilantes spin-off.

Keep in mind that in most of the official sketches his face is normal, but those few still stick out, especially the one with the split face. The design of his hair makes it easy to hide parts of his face, even if it's not as obvious as in the sketches above most of the time. There are of course characters like Shishikura, who has half his face hidden by his hair all the time, but I think this is a thing you need to see in context of the character.

I'm probably overthinking this, but I think it's an interesting detail if you keep the split personality theory in mind.

I guess you kind of called it in a way, kurogiri is being used to deliver back up troops and save shigaraki, just not the way people were expecting. I’m kind of surprised how fast that aizawa thing was resolved, I was expecting it to get its own chapter.

Well I mean…is he though? Is Kurogiri being used to save Tomura? I wouldn’t so yet anyway*, since no one who’s arrived through a warp gate is here to save Shigaraki. Aizawa, Sero, Satou, Shoji, Koda, Momo, Kaminari, and etc. are all here to save Midoriya and to fight Shigaraki/AFO; I’m not sure how many pros or if any of the kids even know who’s in control or what the distinction is and I’m quite sure none of them care, either one’s the big villain they need to beat. Strictly speaking; everyone on this battlefield besides Deku is a direct threat to Tomura’s safety (including his own body).

Best any of them can do that’d theoretically help Tomura in any way is to buy time while either a) Deku gets his second wind to do something that’ll help free Tomura and undo his screw up, or b) someone (I’m thinking/hoping Kurogiri after he regains control of his facilities) gets the bright idea to warp in people who actually can help save Tomura: the League.

Speaking of; I’m with you there in the resolution of the rooftop trio feeling way too quick just to get them back into the bigger fight. I was hoping they'd get at least a chapter too. And the actual resolution itself, well I’ve ranted about it once already, I expect I’ll rant about it again soon, but suffice to say I found it very lacking. Here's hoping future developments with Kurogiri can make up for it.

*well not in this chapter I mean. He obviously helped save Tomura from AFO the first time along with Spjnner & Toga and I’d like to reiterate that they deserve their credit for that.
