#i just had the realization that when i get married i probably wont have either of my parents there#its cheesy but when i was little my mom and i would watch say yes to the dress together and talk about my wedding#wed talk about the dress appointments wed go to together and how she would never be like the moms on the show#that she would always be supportive of whatever dress i wanted#or if i didnt want a dress at all#and when i came out wed talk about what my potential wife or husband would wear or be like#but after she died i kinda stopped thinking about my wedding day because it was always an event directly tied to her#there was no reason to think about my wedding without her tbh#and then i got really bored one day and made a wedding book planning out how i wanted it to be#my dad gave me an idea for wedding photos that went with my theme and supported me in my teenage scrapbooking#i joked with him that if anyone ever tried to ask for his approval to marry me hed either say 'no' out of reflex and a joke#or hed say 'why are you asking me?' because hes an autistic man who doesnt understand antiquated traditions#but my dad turned 71 this year and i am solidly in my early 20s with absolutely no signs that ill get married anytime soon#ive often thought that if i was to get married it wouldnt happen until i was in mt 40s just like my own parents were#my dad is beyond healthy for a 71yo he has the health of a 50yo the man could prolly climb everest if he wanted#but hes still old#and if im not gonna get married for at least another 20 years hed be in his 90s by then and theres no garuntee he'll be there#ive come to accept my mother will never be there#its still something that makes my eyes watery even just typing it out rn to think about her absense on that day#but ive accepted it#but my dad is different#my dad is illogically healthy he always has been#my mom was always sick and in pain my whole life her passing was not a surprise#but with my dad it will prolly always be a surprise when he dies#and i have never thought about it#its just not something that feels like it could happen#but as im thinking about it the possibility that my dad will die before i even meet the person i marry is more than likely#and i dont know what to do with the idea that neither of my parents will be there at my wedding

Stained Glass Windows - Chapter Sixty Four
Life was complicated, but they wouldn't have it any other way.
-x-
Hi besties <3
As always, the love for this version of them means the entire world...especially after the anon saying I should stop this fic. You are all the absolute best and I am forever grateful for this little corner of the internet.
Anyway, I got yelled at for the last chapter. I will probably get yelled at for this one and I will deserve it.
Please let me know what you think!
-x-
Words: 3.1k
A full list of warnings for the fic can be found on the Series Master List.
Read over on Ao3, or below the cut
She stares at him, her mouth falling open as a disbelieving scoff escapes her, “Pakistan?”
It feels like his heart is in a vice, the grip on it getting tighter and tighter with each passing second. It was a feeling that had settled in his chest the moment the Deputy Director had walked out of his office, something he knew wouldn’t shift until he had this conversation with his wife. He nods as he reaches for her hand and links it through his, their wedding rings knocking against each other as he squeezes tightly.
“He said the request for me to head it up came from the director himself,” he says, and Emily presses her lips together as she looks down at their joint hands, turbulent emotions rolling through her stomach. A mix of pride for her husband and the fact he was being recognised by the FBI for everything he’d done, for the things he’d almost died for, and dread at the thought of having to live without him.
“What did you say to him?” She asks carefully, pleased when her voice remains even, that she’s able to cover the nausea climbing up her throat.
“I said I had to talk to you about it,” he replies, stroking his thumb back and forth over the heel of her hand, “I’d never agree to anything without doing that.”
She blows out a shaky breath, and closes her eyes, shaking her head as she laughs humourlessly, “Neither one of them is someone who takes no for an answer,” she says, swallowing thickly, “If you say no you could tank your career.”
“I’ll quit tomorrow if you want me to say no, Em,” he says seriously, his eyebrows furrowed as he leans in closer, eliminating any space between them. He smiles at her and it wavers, the breath he huffs out skipping across her face, “My wife is pretty well off.”
She chuckles and closes her eyes, “You love your job.”
“I love you more. I love Lily and Jack more,” he says, cupping the back of her head and drawing her closer, resting his forehead against hers, “Nothing is more important than the three of you.”
She stamps a kiss against his lips before she pulls back, “Do you want to go?”
The answer was complicated. It was an amazing opportunity, one he would have jumped at a few years ago. He knew if his life was different, if he had more to run away from than he had to run towards that he’d probably go. Find solace on the other side of the world in an attempt to fix what he’s sure would be missing if he and Emily weren’t together, to somehow stitch himself back together without her handing him the thread. He didn’t want to be far away from her and the kids, didn’t want to potentially miss milestones in Lily’s life that he’d missed in Jack’s.
“I don’t know how much of a choice I have,” he says honestly, “He said it would be a few months-”
“A few months?” She exclaims, her calm exterior slipping and she frowns at him, “That’s ridiculous. We have an almost 10-month-old-”
He squeezes her hand, cutting her off with a soft smile, “I already told him that amount of time wouldn’t be acceptable. If I did it…it would be one month. Two months maximum,” he assures her, “I’d be back before her birthday.”
She nods and blows out a breath. She felt vaguely reassured by that, but she knew how these things worked. That they could delay him coming home, that once he was out there his stay could be extended. “Do we have to make a decision now?”
He shakes his head, “We can sleep on it, but we have to make a decision soon,” he says and she nods, looking back at their joint hands, falling silent as she tries to figure out how she feels, “I’m sorry sweetheart.”
She looks up so quickly it briefly hurts her neck and she feels her heart break at the look on his face, the genuine devastation in his eyes, and for a moment she puts aside her feelings about all of this. He was the one who would be leaving if they decided he was going to do this, he was the one who would go weeks, maybe months, without seeing his children, and she could tell he was worried she was angry at him.
It’s a hangover from his marriage with Haley, her lack of understanding about his job, about how much of it was out of his hands, still deeply ingrained within him. Emily feels a flash of anger towards the other woman that she knows she doesn’t deserve. It was one of the many reasons Haley herself had said Emily and Aaron were better suited, because they understood this part of each other in a way she had never been able to.
“Oh, honey,” Emily says, wrapping her arms around him and pulling him into a hug, his head pressed against her chest. He holds her tightly, his arms banding firmly around her, and she feels his breath stutter against her collarbone. She rests her cheek on the top of his head and runs her hand up and down his back, “You have nothing to be sorry for. I’m so proud of you.”
He pulls back and looks at her, his eyebrows furrowing, his eyes shining in a way she knows hers are too, “Really?”
She nods and runs her fingers through his hair, “Really,” she says, smiling softly, an edge of mischievousness to it he sometimes sees in their daughter’s smile, “Although, part of me wishes right now that you weren’t so damn good at your job.”
He laughs, loud and bright and it eases some of the ache in her gut. He nods and rests his forehead against hers, “Me too.”
They are cut off by a cry from upstairs, the baby monitor on the table crackling to life half a second later and they both smile. Aaron stamps a kiss against her lips and pulls back.
“I’ll go,” he says, kissing her once more before he stands up. He stops before he gets very far and he turns to look at her, “I love you, Em.”
She smiles at him, a sad edge to it that makes him wish he’d never said anything, that he’d given them the evening to just be together and happy.
“I love you too.”
___
Emily smiles as she watches Jack patiently holds his hands out so Lily can use them to hold herself up, briefly standing on shaky legs before she falls onto her bottom, giggling when Jack joins in too.
“That was so good, Lil,” Emily says, reaching out and smoothing her fingers through her daughter’s unruly hair, “Is Jack helping you learn to walk?”
“When will she be walking properly, Emily?” Jack asks, tilting his head at her curiously, forever impatient when it came to his sister being able to play with him.
“Probably soon, Jack,” she says, smiling softly at him, “Remember we said it would be around the time of her birthday?”
The thought of it made her ache. She loved seeing her daughter grow, loved seeing her personality develop and watching her hit milestones, but she also missed when she was tiny. When Lily was a dot of a thing who would sleep against her chest for hours. She felt the same way about Jack too, how he’d changed so much right in front of her eyes over the last few years.
“I can’t wait,” he says enthusiastically, holding out one of Lily’s toys for her, his focus entirely back on his little sister.
Emily’s smile falters, the reality of the fact Lily’s birthday was going to be on the other side of Aaron’s time away from them all weighing heavily on her. They’d made the decision together that he would go, on the grounds that it was only to help the task force get set up and that he’d only be there a couple of months at most. It was something the deputy director had agreed to and Aaron had signed all the paperwork just the day before. They hadn’t told anyone on the team yet and she was dreading their reactions, but they had told Haley, both of them aware they couldn’t make that decision officially without telling her.
It hadn’t been an easy conversation. As predicted Haley hadn’t understood, her initial reaction the same that it would have been if she and Aaron were still married. They’d talked about it in detail. Told her how Aaron would be away for a couple of months at most, that Emily would still be at home and that nothing with their arrangement with Jack had to change. Emily was nothing short of grateful when Haley eventually agreed. Part of her had been worried that she’d be hesitant to have Jack come over when Aaron was away for such an extended period of time. She loved Jack just as much as she loved Lily, and she wanted to have as much of Aaron around her as possible while he was gone.
She hears the doorbell ring and she blows out a breath as she hears Aaron’s footsteps as he goes to answer it. They’d agreed with Haley that they’d all tell Jack together, so they hadn’t hinted at anything whilst he’d been with them the last few days. She gives herself a moment before she stands up and lifts Lily into her arms, as she smiles at Jack.
“That will be your mommy, honey,” she says, sitting on the couch and resting Lily on her lap before she pats the cushion next to her, “Come sit here.”
He frowns as he stands up and walks over to join her on the couch, “Am I in trouble?”
She shakes her head and presses a kiss to his forehead, “No sweetie, you’re not in trouble. Mommy, Daddy and I just need to talk to you about something, okay?”
He nods, his eyebrows still furrowed together, and snuggles into her side as Haley and Aaron walk into the living room, “Hi Mommy.”
Haley smiles as she settles onto the couch opposite them, warmth that feels a little like jealousy spreading through her as Aaron settles on Jack’s other side, the sight of the four of them all together something she still needed a second to get used to.
“Hi honey,” she replies, “Did you have fun with Daddy, Emily and Lily?”
He nods enthusiastically, “Emily says Lily will be walking soon and then she can play with me more.”
“That’s so exciting,” she says, looking at the baby sitting on Emily’s lap, her fist in her mouth as she looks up at her mother. Haley smiles softly before she looks over at Aaron and they lock eyes, a silent conversation they’d had countless times since they were young and dumb and convinced their love would last forever. He nods and clears his throat, turning his attention to Jack, his hand running through his hair.
“Jack, buddy, we need to talk to you about something,” he says, and Jack nods earnestly. Aaron feels his breath catch in his chest, briefly unsure what to say even though he’d practised it a dozen times in his head. He looks up at his wife as she places her hand on his knee, reaching over Jack and squeezing the joint for a second, her smile reassuring as their eyes meet before he looks down back at his son, “You know my job is to fight bad guys, right?”
“Emily does too!”
He chuckles and he nods, “Yeah, she does. Well, sometimes I go away for a few days at a time to fight the bad guys. And you stay here with Emily and Lily if I’m away when you’re supposed to be here,” he says, clearing his throat before he carries on, “Well, I have to go away for a little longer than I usually do.”
Jack frowns, his brows furrowing together in a way that makes him look so much older, “How long?”
Aaron sighs and feels Emily squeeze his leg again, “Until just before Lily’s birthday, buddy.”
The room falls into silence for a moment before Jack looks back and forth between all three of his parents, “Thats so long.”
“I know it is,” he says, tugging Jack into his lap, holding him close as he drops a kiss to the top of his head, “But I love you so much, and so do Mommy and Emily. And whilst I’m gone I need you to help look after Lily.”
Emily smiles and reaches over, running her fingers through the little boy's hair, “And nothing will change here, okay? You’ll still be here half the week just like normal.”
Jack nods slightly absentmindedly and looks over at Haley, “Really?”
Haley nods, wanting nothing more than to pull her son into her arms, but knowing this had to be a moment for Aaron and their little boy, “Really. We’ve already talked about it. I know you enjoy your time here.”
Jack’s lower lip starts to tremble and he presses his face into his father’s chest, “I’ll miss you, Daddy.”
Aaron closes his eyes and pulls him close, pressing a fierce kiss to the top of his son’s head, “I’ll miss you too. So much.”
He’s proud of himself for holding it together, for not falling apart, until Haley and Jack leave, an agreement that they’d get together for dinner before he left echoing around them as the door closes. It's only when Emily turns to look at him, Lily on her hip, matching expressions on their faces, that he breaks.
As Emily comforts him, Lily pressed between them, babbling to herself and blissfully unaware of everything going on around her, all he can do is hope he’s made the right decision.
___
Emily holds her daughter close, making sure her little jacket was covering her properly. It was easier to focus on protecting her from the cool spring evening air than it was to think about what was about to happen, about the fact she was about to say goodbye to her husband for a few weeks. Lily presses her face into Emily’s neck, rubbing her forehead against her skin, and she kisses the top of her head.
“I know, sweet girl, you’re tired,” she says, kissing her head again, “We’ll be heading home soon.”
She clears her throat to get rid of the shake in her voice, desperate to hold it together, to not show Aaron just how much she was struggling with this now the moment was here. She looks up as he walks towards them and she fixes a smile on her face.
“We’re all ready to go,” he says, and her eyes drift past him to the plane that would take him away from her, full of other agents and military personnel who were also in the middle of saying goodbye to their families. “Em-”
“You know that promise you made when I stopped going on cases with the BAU?” She asks, her eyes drifting back to his, “I was pregnant, this one was Nugget,” she says, bouncing Lily slightly, both of them taking a moment to smile at the fond memory of their daughter’s first nickname, “And we were in that kitschy hotel in Alaska.”
He nods and looks at Lily, reaching out for her hand, smiling when she grabs his finger, “You’d just had that fall and were told to rest for the rest of the day. We sat in bed and you asked me to promise to not take any unnecessary risks.”
She smiles, feeling how it trembles, the force of her emotions climbing up her throat. It felt like a lifetime ago not just a year. They hadn’t met Lily, they didn’t even know they were having a daughter, and they weren’t married yet. So much had changed, but the foundation of their relationship was still the same - they loved each other fiercely. And that was why she understood that he had to do this.
“I’m asking you to make that promise again,” she says, cupping his cheek, “I need you to not do anything stupid so you come back to us, okay?” She asks, her chin shaking as a tear finally breaks free from her lashline, “You need to come back so you can watch Lily and Jack grow up. And so we can make half a dozen other adorable babies.”
He chuckles, the sound wet as it catches in his chest, and he nods, capturing her lips in a kiss. It tastes of their tears, a tang of sadness stuck to their lips as they pull away. “I promise.”
She nods, her forehead pressed against his, “I love you.”
“I love you too,” he replies, kissing her nose and then her cheek, “So much,” he turns his attention to Lily. He kisses her forehead and then her cheek, taking a moment to breathe her in, “Love you Lily-Pad, I’ll be home soon okay?”
Lily babbles, grabbing his face with her tiny fists, her sharp nails digging into his skin, the imprints of her touch that would last until after he walked away.
They hear his name being called, the final call for boarding ringing around them, and they both sigh. Emily brushes his hair off his forehead and then cups his cheek again. He turns his head and kisses her palm.
“I’ll let you know when I land.”
She nods, dragging him into one last kiss, “Don’t do anything stupid,” she says, reiterating her earlier point, “You’re already a hero to me.”
He smiles and kisses her before he steps back, “Right back at you, Mrs Hotchner. I love you.”
“We love you,” she says, sniffing, wiping tears from her cheeks as she waves at him as he starts to walk away, “Wave goodbye to Daddy, Lily.”
Lily waves too, mostly encouraged by Emily who smiles sadly when her little girl mirrors her movements. Emily watches as Aaron boards the plane and he turns back to wave, his smile reassuring even with the distance between them. She stays until the plane leaves, until it’s nothing more than a spec in the sky, something easily confused with the constellations she’d once mapped with her grandfather.
Lily grumbles in her arms and Emily adjusts her hold on her, kissing her daughter’s forehead as she turns to leave, “Come on baby. Let’s go home.”

Aemond x Depressed!Reader
Part two Part three
• Parents and Measters recognizing readers' melancholy personality at a young age
• Doing their best to care for reader without making them worse
• Parents loving reader without fail
• Parents crying because reader tried to show affection
"John! John!"
Lady Meraider shouted across the room as she interrupted her husband's meeting. Lord Meraider turned to face his wife with swift panic. Only to see a smile accompanied with tears. Lady Meraider practically fell into her lord husband's arms. She laughed through hiccups as Lord Meraider held her. She finally gained composer and loosened her grip on her husband.
"What is it my love? Why are your emotions out of control?"
"It's y/n, "
"Are they alright?!"
"Yes, yes! Everything is perfect!"
"Then what has happened?"
"I was talking with her Septa, about how her studies were going. And while we were talking y/n came into the room, all quiet as usual."
Lady Meraider gave way to tears again. Lord Meraider wiped her tears so she could continue.
"Y/N came in and decided she wanted a cuddle, it only lasted a minute or so before she left again, but Husband. She cuddled me of her own will!"
Thus time Lord Meraider gave way to tears along with his wife.
• Readers parents having high hopes for when they come of age
• Their daughter is wonderful who could not love her their special baby after all, all her peers enjoy her company, and many of them being males
• Parents already giving grand plans for thier daughters wedding
• Depressed!Daughter peers not liking/shaming them first their dreary disposition
• Daughters peers not liking that despite her constant sadness males are willing to try for her (they don't try too hard though)
• The mothers disappointment and the fathers anger when others flat out reject their daughter
Lord Meraider tossed his cutlery across his plate as he watched another lords daughter cut into his daughters dance. Only to see the boy agree to the other girl. The Meraider daughter doesn't look upset to the untrained eye, but her parents knew. They knew that they would both have to sleep that evening knowing their daughter would cry that night. Especially since this was the third dance she had been jilted.
"Fools, all of them. They should be grateful I even invited them here."
"I know husband, I know."
Both parents sigh as they watched their daughter gracefully leave the dance floor without causing a scene.
"Once day, I promise you wife. Our daughter may appear the be prey to these harlets, but she has a fire. I've seen it in her eyes. She will outshine them all."
• Lord Meraider sending his daughter to his brothers for a possible marriage pact
• Daughter not knowing who the marriage pact is with (if she knew she would not show)
• Reader helping her cousins get ready rather than herself, said cousins, having to heavily persuade reader to let them doll her up
• (Emerald or black dress) the dress readers cousins had made specifically for her
• Reader doesn't meet cousins potential betrothed, but he does see her
• Reader waits with her cousins in line from oldest to youngest while the potential husband arrives
A great storm begins to brew as the Baratheon's wait for their guest. All wait with excited nerves and cautious brains. All but one, the one who is unaware of who the guest really is. The storm rumbles through the keep, shaking windows, and the inhabitants' hearts. With a crash of lightning, another sound of thunder echoed about, only this one was different. It shook fear into the patient inhabitants, causing a few to gasp and jump in their place. Non but one recognized the sound.
"What was that?"
"Sounded like a Demon, or some monster."
"Stop trying to scare your sister!"
"It was just thunder."
The sound echoed again, but thus time ahead of the thunder. With the sound of nature accompanying the ferocious entity it made the sound it emitted lounder than before. The inhabitants of the keep looked to the ceiling as the metal fixtures shook with the terrifying sound.
"That's not thunder."
The fear inside the room grew in an immense measure. The suitor was here.
• Reader stood with her cousins, she was just as nervous but was better put together from a strangers eye view
• The cousins had taken a step back leaving Depressed!Reader to be front and center
• When the daughters notice the distance between them and their cousins, they try to pull her back to them only for the prince's voice to stop them in their tracks
"It appears I have been mislead. Should I translate this to you trying to deceive the crown?"
The prince's voice echoed through the grand hall. The lord of the keep scoffed.
"You think I would purposely offend the brother of the crown? My prince, please tell what has offended you so that I may correct it?"
The prince let's a hum vibrate from him. As if in deep thought, he looks to the young woman. They girls reach for the one closest to the one eyes prince. There was only four children of the lord, yet he was seeing five young woman. Unbeknownst to them he had remembered and recognized one of them. One he had missed for a time.
"I seem to recall you only having four daughters. Why do I see five young woman in my presence?"
The lord did his best to not laugh. It was a simple mistake. One that could have been avoided if his forerunner had done his job.
"My apologies, my prince. Let me clear up any confusion."
• The lord introduced each of his daughters from eldest to youngest, each one avoided eye contact with the prince
• When his eye settled on the one he remembered, he caught her eyes on him before she gave him a deep bow
• The prince watched her as she was introduced, she stirred something from within him
• The lord suggested a dinner to be held to welcome the prince and his decision
• The prince had decided he would make his decision before the end of the night despite the lord wanting him to know the young lady's
"I will marry the sweetest one." Announced the prince as he removed himself from the dinner chair
• The lady's lined up, ready to wish the prince good rest, they were confused as the prince lingered
• The prince and lord shared a look as if to know what the other intended to do
"Just a kiss is all I ask, just one from each of you. I only ask for the sweetest one to be my wife." The prince stated before approaching the daughter closest to him. Each one shocked by the searching kiss from the prince. Each squeak from his daughters made the Lord worried and fearful. Worried for how his daughters will feel after the invasive proposition and fearful of the prince being displeased.
• When the prince kissed the reader, her whimper was the lowest in noise, nearly nonexistent compared to her cousins
• Their kiss lasted the longest, and the prince allowed his lips to move along
• Not to mention, he continued the kiss after the reader layed her hand on his forearm, he had immediately removed himself when one of her cousins had touched him
• The prince detached himself with a hum watching a readers eyes fluttered open
After a pause of watching the prince hold and stare down his niece, the lord spoke. "Has a decision been made, my prince? Have my daughters or niece met your standards?" Again the prince hummed, this time from deep within his throat. "Sweet." Was all the prince had said before exiting the dining hall.
Very self-indulgent this is. Thinking about fleshing this out into a full story. Depending on how motivated I am, this may or may not happen. Will most likely turn into an oc x Aemond instead of an x reader.

*Bold letters meaning they’re talking in English ——————————————————————
On a rare and peaceful day off, Shion enjoyed the silence with a book in one hand, running the other through her husband’s snow-colored hair. It’s been almost two hours since Gojo fell asleep on her lap. At first, his head was on her shoulder, and Shion worried about potential future back problems. Instead, she offered him her lap to nap on.
She took note of Gojo snuggling into her lap as if it were a pillow. Thanks to his hair, it tickled her.
At some point, Shion’s eyes lost focus on her book, and drifted towards Gojo’s sleeping face. Her hand moved slightly, allowing her to get a clear view of his features. Gently putting her book away, she brushed a few strands of his hair away from his cheek.
Shion admitted that Gojo was a very handsome guy. If it weren’t for the whole Jujutsu business, she could clearly see him as a very popular actor and model. And she had a feeling that he would have the Midas’ touch, if he chose to dwell in business–that is if he kept his mouth shut, and played the role of a serious cool guy. Then again, he wouldn’t be the Gojo Satoru she knew. She hated to admit it, but being an annoying piece of shit was one of Gojo’s endearing charms.
Despite his loudness and eccentricness, sometimes she woke up to his sleeping face, and she always found herself staring at him for a few minutes before getting ready for the day. She liked how peaceful he looked as it soothes her nerves.
She wondered what kind of dreams he had whenever she saw a small smile on his face. Was it his dream of revolutionizing the current system finally came to life?‌ Or relieving a happy memory from his past?‌
Shion’s observations came to a stop as her husband roused himself from his slumber.
“How’s the nap, dumbass?”‌
“Nice,” Gojo answered groggily as he rubbed his cheek against her bare thighs. “I have the best pillow to nap on after all.”
Shion felt her cheeks burn with anger. Did her husband really just wake up and immediately provoke violence, even though he’s within striking distance of her fist?
“By the way,” Gojo shifted his position, sensing his wife would explode out of embarrassment. “Have we had our honeymoon yet?”
Shion shook her head.
“Let’s go on one!”
Right after their wedding back in 2009, the married couple couldn’t afford to make plans for their honeymoon trip. They were simply too busy with the duties that came along with their positions, and the assigned missions from the college. Gojo–occupied with his teaching responsibilities and his transition to clan head—barely had time for himself. Because of this, he left the responsibility of the Fushiguro siblings to his already overwhelmed wife.
Shion closed her book, placing it on the couch. “Where do you want to go?”
“It’s up to you, Shion.” Gojo stretched his arms upward before standing up from the couch. “After all, our honeymoon is your wedding present to me!”
“Wait what?!” Shion exclaimed. “I didn’t agree to do the planning and-”
“Oh look at that time,” Gojo took a quick glance at his phone before shoving it back into his pocket. “I have a date with a cursed spirit! And you know how cranky they can get when I’m late!”
“Satoru!”
After Gojo quickly waved at Shion, he winked, and then disappeared to his destination.
“And, there he goes…Wait…isn’t today his day off?”

Later in the evening, a certain blonde salaryman entered his apartment. For once, his boss was feeling generous enough to let him go home early after 3 days of working overtime. Why couldn’t that idiot do his own fucking financial reports for once?! Why does he have to make Nanami do his work?
Nanami was so ready to relax on his couch, drink some beer and catch up on his reading. Instead, he found Shion had showed up unannounced and invaded his living room. Stacks of opened magazines covered his coffee table and countless sticky notes plastered the back of her laptop.
How did she even get access to his place? Oh right–he had given her a key to his place two years ago, after he had rescued her from a bar after a night of heavy drinking.
It was the first time they’d spoken after Haibara’s death.
“Kento...I’ll support whatever decisions you have, whether it be leaving that cursed world or pretending all of that is not real but, please…”
Shion clenched tightly onto the hem of his shirt as she sobbed. “Don’t forget…I exist...”
His home acted as a temporary sanctuary for Shion. It didn’t solve her marital problems–Gojo’s neglect, their lack of communication–but it did help her climb out of a dangerous headspace.
Nanami remembered how vulnerable Shion looked when she woke up. Her hair was a mess, all over the place. He could see the never-ending sorrow in her eyes, eyes that once gleamed with such lustrous golden color. The familiar shame and guilt he’d seen years ago resurfaced on her face again.
Nanami felt partially responsible for what she had become.
Instead of helping her, he ran–no, scratch that–he abandoned her in his pursuit of normalcy. No one could really blame him for what he did. The Jujutsu society was really fucked up, rotten to it’s core, and it had driven at least one sorcerer he knew to insanity.
Because of this, he wondered if Shion understood his decision to leave the cursed world, or if she had turned a blind eye towards his selfish act, hoping for a chance to rekindle their friendship.
All these thoughts ran through his head. He pushed them aside as he took off his blazer, setting it on the top of the chair.
“What are you doing here?”
“Oh, welcome home, Kento.” Shion put her laptop aside and pulled a bottle of whiskey from her bag. “To compensate for the sudden visit.”
“I’m so close to asking for my key back, “ Nanami said, taking the bottle anyway.
Despite being a heavy drinker, Nanami wasn’t a raging alcoholic–unlike their mutual acquaintance. Did Shion really think he would be swayed so easily by intoxicating beverages?
Then again, only a fool would decline free drinks.
Nanami let out a tired sigh before loosening his necktie.
“Did you order take-out, at least?”
Shion nodded.
“Then be my guest.”
After taking a quick shower, Nanami slipped into his sleepwear and as he was changing, he heard his doorbell ring twice, indicating the food had arrived. He made his way to the living room with a towel draped on his neck. He felt lazy today to dry his hair with his hair dryer.
Seeing Nanami on his way, Shion poured a glass of whiskey for him as he took a seat across from her.
Nanami took a sip of his drink. “What made you come here?”
"A change of scenery.“‌ Shion answered without looking away from her laptop. ”It might help me decide where to go for my honeymoon trip with Satoru.“‌
Honeymoon? An unlikely scenario for those two–both of them are complete idiots when it comes to each other. A prideful idiot, and an oblivious idiot. He still hadn’t a clue when this pining between them would end. Honestly, it was amusing and tiring to watch them in the same room together.
In spite of everything, he preferred that than ever breathing in the same air as Naoya Zen’in–Shion had mistaken his marriage proposal as a declaration of rivalry. But that would be a tale for another time.
Nanami eyed at the messy stack of colorful travel magazines on his coffee table. “Shouldn’t you be planning this with Gojo, Shion?”
“Yep, and knowing him, he would dodge the topic like a mission from the higher-ups.” Shion put a whole tamago into her mouth. “Hash wark? Shame ash ushuyla? Shame shitty bawsh?”
“Eat first before you speak.” Nanami scolded. “And yes, the same as usual.”
The woman gulped down before releasing a contented sigh. “Well, if you need help in dealing with someone, let me know.” Shion gestured at her neck.
“I will if the only option isn’t murder.”
“So, you’re considering murder as one of the options then?” Shion tilted her head to the side, confused with her friend’s sudden frown. “What? I’m double checking with you before I commit anything. Oh, and that supervisor of yours, is he currently in a relationship? Because I saw him with different-”
“How am I still friends with you?”
“You’re a softie, that's why.”
Nanami rolled his eyes at Shion’s words.
“You’re more of a softie than me, Shion.” Nanami commented. “Remember in high school when there’s a mission at Nagoya-”
Shion’s eyes widened before she covered her ears. “N-Not another word please, Kento!”
Nanami was not very surprised to find that his supervisor was weirdly friendly with him at work the next day, and insisted on granting him a good amount of vacation days as a goodwill gesture. Nanami didn’t miss the fear in his eyes when they made eye contact.
Looks like he had Shion to thank and scold for this.
----------------------------------------------
After a week of preparation, the married couple finally went on their honeymoon. Thanks to Gojo’s ‘charms,’ they managed to each get a week off so that they could fully enjoy their well-deserved rest.
However, when they arrived at their hotel, an unexpected problem occurred.
“One single room for Mr. & Mrs. Gojo, right?”
One bed? And, here she thought she could get a break from sharing a bed with Gojo for once. She’s sure that she picked a double room for the both of them. Did they accidentally book the wrong one?‌
“Miss?”
“Ah…yes!” Shion looked startled as she clasped her hands together, and quickly spared a glance at Gojo. “One bedroom for me and my husband...of course, my husband….who is over there, at the koi pond…”
Unknown to her, Gojo was assessing if he could fit a smaller koi fishin his water bottle.
Shion awkwardly chuckled. The receptionist gave her a side eye before turning their attention to the computer. What’s with that reaction? Her English wasn’t that bad to begin with, was it? Thanks to her travels with Tsukumo, she could read and comprehend simple sentences, as well as hold a conversation.
Maybe it wasn’t so much how she sounded, but what she said–now that she thought about it, Shion may have come off as floozy, or worse– a married woman having an affair with another man.
She really needed to take a break from reading such romance trite novels.
All of her energy was spent from their travels (and the awkward conversation with the receptionist), and Shion wanted to dive to their bed and rest, but Gojo’s big mouth prevented her from doing so.
“You really want to sleep with me that much, huh?”  Gojo smirked.
Shion glared at Gojo. So he did have something to do with their unexpected room change after all.
“What are you talking about?” Shion put down her luggage on the carpeted floor. “You act like this is our first time sharing a bed.”
She’s not wrong.
When they first got married, Gojo bought a house near the college, but also close to the Fushiguro sibling’s school. They had started to share a bed when the Fushiguros moved into their house. Since they’re growing children, Shion willingly gave up her bedroom and her personal office so that they could each have their own room. They could easily buy a larger  house, but they had been so busy with work that they didn't have time to do more house hunting.
Sure, he could just have Shion move to his family’s estate with him, but trust didn’t exist in that place.
Despite his position as the head of the Gojo clan, the servants remained loyal to other family members, most notably towards his parents–the same people who brought him to this world with a troublesome burden, and the first people to strongly oppose his marriage to Shion. They claimed that it would damage his reputation enough just to marry an outcast, let alone someone with a questionable background like his new bride.
They also kept trying to set him up with their own marriage candidate. They assumed that because Shion hadn’t yet given them any grandchildren, she must be infertile, and if she couldn’t fulfill even the simplest role of a woman, he might as well divorce her. They said this to his face, with Shion beside him.
When Gojo heard those words, he almost committed parricide on the spot like his old friend. Consequences be damned.
The only thing that stopped him from doing so was Shion. He remembered her expression at that time was unreadable, indifferent to his parent’s attack.
Once they got home, however, he accidentally stumbled upon Shion hunched over the bathroom sink, secretly treating the red crescent-shaped wounds on the palm of her hands.
The scene made him wish he could manipulate time to his will. He wanted to go back in time to the first year of their marriage, and treat her better. Not as her husband, but as her partner.
He hoped this trip would help him understand Shion more, and in return, he would earn more of her trust.
“Earth to Satoru,” Shion said. “Did you even hear me? I said, this isn’t our first time sharing a bed–”
“Yep~” Gojo poked her cheek. “That’s how I know you snore and hog the blanket. ”
Shion shook her head in response to her husband’s answer.
“What’s first on the agenda?”‌ Gojo asked.
“The beach, but I want a snack.”‌ Shion frowned, placing her hand on her stomach. “The airplane food wasn’t enough.”
“Alright,” Gojo nodded before rolling his shoulders. “I’ll look for a convenience store. I need to stretch my legs after that flight. Why did you book us economy class when we can easily afford first class? Or even better—rent a private jet?”‌
Because it was Nanami who booked their flight. Whenever Shion made travel plans, her mind always went blank as her anxiety cranked up to a hundred. It’s not that she worried about money–she worried about filling in the right information. What if she accidentally booked a forty-eight hour flight to Denmark? Or chose an unreasonable flight time? Did she have to pay extra for checked baggage, or was that included?
Not that Gojo would understand the struggle.
“I forgot to upgrade the tickets.” Shion scratched her cheek. “Now, could you go get me some snacks?”‌
Once Gojo left the room, Shion fell face first to their shared bed. She let out a moan, satisfied with how comfortable it was.
She wanted to take a nap, but she had to unpack her luggage just to find her swimsuit.
As Shion went through her clothes, panic started to rise. There’s still no sign of her bathing suit! Where could it be? She had already checked every nook and cranny of her suitcase…
Amidst of her dilemma, her eyes landed on a familiar white rectangular box. She hadn’t opened that box yet, even though she had received it weeks ago…
"You're late, Shion." Mei Mei extended her hand out. "That'll be 500 yen for the late fee."
"This isn’t a doctor’s appointment that I’m missing, Mei-san." Shion looked at her friend, confused. “Besides, you’re the one who came to visit me at work, unannounced-”
“I’ll charge you an extra five-hundred yen for that behavior.”
“Alright, fine!” Shion rolled her eyes as she handed the older woman a five-hundred yen coin. “What brought you here?”
Mei inspected the gold coin and played it around between her fingers. "I heard from Shoko and Utahime that you'll be going on your honeymoon next week. Consider this my wedding present."
“Is Mei-san a psychic?” Shion gasped. "How did she know I’d forget to bring my swimsuit today?"
Inside of the box, Shion found a pair of black undergarments paired with sheer stockings. The needlework in the laces was intricate, and the fabric was smooth to touch.
This was perfect! She hoped it would fit her.
Shion changed into the ‘swimsuit,’ and quickly began having doubts about this gift. It barely covered her parts that would warrant an arrest for indecent exposure. Also, what was the point of these stockings? Wouldn’t they make it harder to traverse the soft sands? And she worried that she was going to lose circulation in her thighs because of the tight fit.
She took a quick picture of her outfit. That way, if Mei Mei ever wanted to gift her a swimsuit again, she would know that she chose the wrong size.
Despite her complaints, Shion found the outfit to be cute.
“I grab you some snacks and-” Gojo stopped in his tracks and dropped the white plastic bag he was holding. “I prefer white on you.”
“Ever heard of knocking?” Shion’s eyes narrowed at him as he picked up the bag and took a seat on their shared bed.
“Where did you buy that?” Gojo gestured at her swimsuit. “I thought you’re more of a no-frills kind of woman.”
“Oh, it’s a gift from Mei-san,” Shion put her hand on her hip. “I never imagined she'd be the type to give someone a swimsuit.”
A sense of curiosity rose within Shion as she watched her husband’s dumbfounded expression.
“Don’t tell me you’re going to wear that to the beach?” Gojo said. Disbelief was laced into his tone.
“Without the stockings, I don’t see why not?” Shion shrugged. "I mean, it’s a bit tight around my chest but I think I’ll-Satoru? Are you alright?"
At that moment, Gojo swore his mind crashed 3 times in a row.
----------------------------------------------
After a quick trip to the mall for a new swimsuit, and then a quick  change of clothes, the couple finally reached their destination for the day: the beach.
As they walked towards the water, they were greeted by the familiar sights of white sands and blue sky, and the sounds of waves rolling upon the shoreline. The smell of salty ocean spray invaded the air around them, and the sun felt warm against their skin.
“Should we go surfing or kayaking first?” Shion asked.
Shion was wearing a white two piece she chose for herself, but the black jacket was Gojo’s idea.
“Satoru,” Shion fanned herself. “Is it really necessary for me to wear your jacket? It’s fucking hot.”
“Yes.” Gojo’s face scrunched into a scowl. “It’ll protect you from all the wolves lurking around here.”
“I think we can rent there.” She pointed at a blue shack filled with various floaties, water toys, surfboards and umbrellas. “You know how to swim right?”
“I should be asking you that question, Shion.”
Within seconds, Shion made a face, as if this were a ridiculous notion. Of course she knew how to swim—she learned it from the best. Her teacher, Tsukumo, had shoved her into the deep end of a pool and she whispered ‘good luck’. All Shion could remember from that day was her limbs screaming in pain.
Recalling that memory sent shivers down Shion's spine. She was thankful that she managed to learn to swim on the first try. And if she didn’t, well, then she wouldn’t be alive today. Although Shion mastered  the basics, the lesson didn’t stop there–Tsukumo kept pushing until Shion could jump from an Olympic dive board without any problems.
“Now, now, you’ll be scaring the cashier with that frown of yours, Shion.” Gojo ruffled her hair.
Shion slapped her husband’s hand away from her. “Just wait here.”
His wife left him with only a single thought in his head— she was too damn beautiful.
From the moment they set their foot on the beach, he could feel and see the hungry gazes from the ‘wolves.’
Shion was too oblivious to notice the stares. As Gojo silently threatened men left and right, Shion seemed preoccupied with something–he swore that he heard her mumbling about werewolves.
He broke away from his thoughts when he felt his phone vibrate. He fished his phone from his pocket and noticed a text from Mei Mei. He almost forgot that he messaged that woman, questioning her if she received a bribe from someone who wanted him dead…from embarrassment.
From: Scary Crow Lady (Mei Mei) Shouldn’t you be thanking me instead? I always assumed you two had an exciting sex life ;-). Isn’t that the purpose of your trip? What’s there to be thankful for?! There was nothing exciting about the long cold, shower before they went to the mall. Thankfully, Shion didn’t question why.
He had no intention of trying to sleep with her. And if he chose to bring up the topic, then there was a good chance that Shion would pass out from embarrassment.
“I’m back.” Shion approached him with two pairs of life vests and snorkeling masks. “I changed my mind, and thought we should do a bit of snorkeling first then–what’s with the scowl on your face?”‌
“Nothing.” Gojo grumbled under his breath, shoving his phone back into his pocket. “Anyways, shall we go then? There’ll be less people ogling you in underwater”
Underneath the blue waters, they saw many colorful forms of marine life. It was a beautiful sight to behold: the school of fishes swimming around them were iridescent, some even had a unique pattern to their scales. Others moved in slow circles–one came swimming right by Shion’s mask.
After their underwater adventure, Gojo suggested building a sandcastle–he wanted to see how tall it could get with their combined effort. It felt a bit childish to do this at their age, but ultimately Shion couldn’t deny his idea as she was also curious about what the outcome would be.
Shion fortified the base of the castle, and volunteered to make a moat around it to protect it from the tides. Meanwhile, Gojo did the heavy lifting–transporting the materials, and adding more layers to the top. Soon, their sand castle was about up to Gojo’s thighs.
But even with Gojo’s jacket, Shion kept receiving good-for-nothing stares from the ‘wolves.’ Some were subtle, but some of them had the audacity to do it with their partner next to them, thinking they would get away scot-free. It sent his blood boiling, and his hands itched to blast those perverts with Red.
No, he’s not jealous. In fact, the last time he experienced such a feeling was two years ago.
He remembered it so clearly.
It was a cold, stormy night and he was standing in front of an abandoned school. His body was heavy with exhaustion, yet he still pushed on–determined to pick up his wife after he got a troubling text from Ijichi. He could have asked the auxiliary manager to do it himself, but it’s been a while since he had seen Shion.
The moment Gojo stepped his foot inside the building, he immediately hid his cursed energy well enough to avoid suspicion. He sensed Shion’s own cursed energy nearby, as well as another familiar aura that shouldn’t have been there in the first place.
His fatigue vanished instantly–replaced with panic as he was outside of the classroom where Shion and Geto were.
Gojo listened to every word of their conversation. Judging from Shion’s hostility, it’s unlikely that his wife expected to find Geto here. That’s one thing to check off the list from the questions he would have to ask her later.
As far as he could tell, Shion never suspected that he had been eavesdropping on her and Geto, before he made his grand entrance. Of course, he wasn't planning to bring it up. He would be patient with her, just like she did with him despite his neglect. It’s the least he could do.
But, Gojo never expected his wife to talk about all her problems maintaining and forming relationships with someone who had committed a heinous crime–even if they had once been friends.
He couldn’t help but wonder if it had something to do with Shion’s crush on Geto.
“Shion,” Gojo got a small ‘hm’ from Shion. “Back in high school, did you like Suguru?”
At that moment, Shion ran the toy shovel straight through the base of the sandcastle. All of their hard work came crumbling down within a matter of seconds.
“Shion!”
Ignoring the architectural tragedy that she had caused, Shion scratched her flushed cheek. “I-I believe I don’t have any idea you’re talking about, Satoru.”
Gojo was astounded by her response. Did she really think her feelings toward Suguru were a secret in the first place? Their classmates and the faculty staff all knew about it. Heck, he overheard Gakuganji, the old fart at Kyoto Tech, asking Yaga’s opinion on whether Shion or Geto would confess first.
“At this point, if someone asked me what oblivious means–” Gojo pointed at her, “–I’m gonna direct them to you.”
Shion slapped his arm as her cheeks burned with embarrassment. In exchange, Gojo laughed at his wife’s bashfulness.
Was he wrong? No, it was a badly kept secret to begin with. Even before hearing it from Haibara’s loud mouth, Geto had sensed the girl’s admiration towards him–it was evident from the way she acted whenever they were in the same room together.
‘Suguru-senpai’ had a sweet-yet-shy tune to it, as if she were a typical damsel-in-distress waiting for her prince to rescue her.  When Gojo watched them together, it honestly felt like a shoujo manga panel had come to life, with Shion’s personality switching from her usual deadpan expression to a blushing mess.
Thinking about how Shion acted towards Suguru was amusing at first. Yet, as time passed on, it became disgusting and–surprisingly–mixed with jealousy.
Gojo recounted the many times he rolled his eyes at Shion for acting in such a trite way. On the other hand, Shion greeting him as ‘Gojo-senpai’ and simply acknowledging his presence drained all of her energy in one go. Gojo understood why–he’s a real piece of work, and his constant hijinks were always a headache to deal with.
What could he say?‌ He’s a natural when it comes to mischief..
Did he regret it? No, not really as it gave him Shion’s hand in marriage and cooperation to his cause.
"W-whatever!" Shion averted Gojo’s eyes. "I-I only had a crush on him, that's it!"
Had a crush? That’s a relief. Wait, was he feeling nervous all that time? Him?!
“W-what is it to you anyway if I do have a crush on Geto-san?”‌ Shion’s eyes locked on Gojo’s, unable for the latter to tear away from. “It’s not like you can do anything about it!”
Shion felt she said something wrong. Despite her husband smiling, the corners of his mouth looked strained.
“I’m thinking of an excuse to use if ever the higher-ups get caught wind of this.” Gojo’s gaze shifted from Shion towards the ocean. “They’re still hellbent on pushing your death penalty. I won’t be surprised if they stoop so low as to  fabricate evidence that frames you as Suguru’s conspirator.”
“Is…that so?” Her question came out as a whisper, discouraged at what she heard. “I guess…it can’t be helped.”
“You can tell how fucked up their priorities are,” Gojo commented. “After three years,  they still keeping tabs on you and-”
And here she had thought she had made progress–3 years of doing their dirty work, only to find out that she’s still at square one. She had bent over backwards for them, thinking that maybe, just maybe, if she worked hard enough, the higher-up’s perception of her would improve–or at least be less shitty–and maybe they’d stop giving her husband so much trouble.
What’s the point of her title and her efforts if  she couldn’t get a sliver of respect from those dried up pieces of shit?
Shion lowered her gaze. “I’m sorry.”
“What are you apologizing for?”
Afraid that her voice would fail her, she kept silent with her hand clenched into a fist. She didn’t pay attention to the pain she inflicted on herself. This frustration she felt was too familiar to her, and she hated it so much.
A familiar warmth on her hand broke her thoughts as Gojo grabbed her fist. She didn’t know why, but when he took hold of her hand, he acted as if he were handling something fragile like glass.
His thumb gently caressed her fingers. In response, she slowly unclenched her fists as Gojo laced his fingers with hers. She never thought that her hand would seem so small compared to her husband’s.
“Are you apologizing because you think your efforts were wasted?” Gojo asked.
Shion nodded.
His voice was different from his usual sly-yet-brazen tone that she was so used to hearing. He sounded gentle, calm and understanding. It was almost comforting, like a warm blanket on a rainy night. But there was a hint of anger mixed in, and she wasn’t sure why. It felt like he was fuming at the higher ups on her behalf.
“It sure was a complete waste of time and effort, trying to change their minds,” Gojo said.
Shion looked down, and frowned at his words. He didn’t have to rub salt on the wound.
“But it didn’t go unnoticed,” Gojo added.
“What do you mean?”
“Because there’s one person who did notice, and that’s me.”
Something soft and warm was pressed against the back of her hand. She didn’t fully register what it was until Gojo gave her one of his signature winks.
Shion.exe crashed.

Baby Talk 🩵🩷
Continuation from when Kelly returns home to take care of Stella, while she heals. Plans for the not so distant future are made.
It had been a couple weeks since Kelly had returned home. Stella was recovering. Her broken ribs and fractured arm were healing. Not in much pain and discomfort now, she was able to do a little more as each day passed. Kelly had absolutely no reservations about leaving Alabama and his OFI training program. He was right where he wanted to be. While Stella was still off work. Kelly had returned to 51. Stella was going to start going to the firehouse and take care of any administrative duties as Kylie was now a candidate in the fire academy. Life was returning to normal for the happily married couple.
After returning home and seeing his bad ass wife heal with no complaining. Kelly couldn’t help but be in complete awe of her. The resilience she has. She took it day by day knowing she would get to the other side of this. With everything they had both been through, especially Stella, from their wedding night at the cabin, having a gun pointed at her head, the RPG incident where she again came close to losing her life and the aftermath that ensued. The nightmares and mental healing that came with the physical healing. Stella never cracked. She went through it. Sure, it took a big toll at times but always came out on the winning side in the end. Kelly was still so in love with his wife. He didn’t think it was possible to love her more but he seemed to fall more in love with her every day. He was ready to take the next step. Start a family. Kelly was nervous approaching the subject with Stella. Given everything he didn’t want to put any added pressure on her. Knowing she wanted to return to work and was going stir crazy, Kelly kept telling himself ‘this wasn’t the right time’. Finally he came to the conclusion: anytime is the right time to talk about potentially starting a family. Having a little mini Kelly or Stella running around is something he had wanted since Stella walked into his life. He knew she was it for him long before they were even a couple. His mind was made up. He was going to talk to Stella after shift.
As he walked through the door a delicious smell was sifting around the loft. Could she be any more amazing? With one functional arm. She had made a wonderful dinner for them. Carver was right. He really was a lucky man.
“Baby, it smells so good in here”
“Well, thank you babe. I decided my handsome husband deserved a home cooked meal after shift”
“You’re amazing”
After a wonderful dinner together and some cuddle time on the couch watching a movie. Kelly spoke up.
“Stella. Can we talk?”
“Of course we can, babe. This sounds ominous. Is everything ok?”
“Oh yea. Everything is perfect. I just want to talk about our future”
“Kelly Severide wants to talk about our future. Well, I am all ears”
Kelly didn’t bear around the bush.
“I WANNA START A FAMILY”
“What? Really?”
“Yes. We have been through so much in the last couple of years. I have never been happier. I love you more than life itself. We have been married for a year and I would love to see you become a mom to our son or daughter. I know you are healing and wanting to get back to work. This has been on my mind for a long time now. I know you have been through so much recently…but…”
“YES”
“Umm WHAT? Did you say YES?”
“Kelly did you really think I haven’t been thinking about us starting a family? We have been married for a year now. In that year we have been through so much together, good and bad. Of course now that things are back to normal again. I would love to start working on having a family”
“Stel. You are the love of my life. Thinking of starting this new chapter is everything”
“Me too babe. Just remember, it might not happen right away. We need to be patient”
“Excuse me, Stella. I love you with all my heart but my wife…between the two of us, who is the person who is patient versus the person who is impatient?”
“OK. OK. You have made your point”
Stella had tears pooling in the corner of her eyes.
“Baby. Don’t cry. Or are those happy tears?”
“Both. I’m scared”
“Why are you scared? Because of work?”
“No. I’m not worried about that at all. This is the best reason to step away from being a lieutenant”
“OK. So tell me why your scared”
“I’m scared it’s gonna be hard to get pregnant and I won’t be able to give you the one thing I want to give you more than anything”
“Stella. Stop. Baby, don’t you dare worry about that. Even if it takes some time or worst case if we can’t have a baby naturally, there are so many options for us. Let’s not concentrate on the ‘what ifs’ OK?”
“Yea. You are right babe. I’m sorry. I never meant to ruin the moment with negative talk. It’s just always been a worry for me. Si-si-since we got together. I know what a great dad you’re going to be. Watching you with kids over the years has truly made my heart burst with joy imagining you as a dad”
“Stella. Sweetheart. This will happen for us. I have no doubt about that. Like I said, if we go through struggles, and that is a big IF, one thing will NEVER change.”
“One thing will never change is how much I love you. You are literally my world. We will get through anything that life throws at us TOGETHER”
“So let’s just enjoy this moment and have a lot of fun practicing”
Stella chuckled.
“Kelly Severide. How do you always know what to say to make me feel better?”
“Just a hidden talent I have, my love”
“I say we go to bed and start some practice sessions”
“I like the way you think babe”

In your family, being set in an arranged marriage was only a matter of time. You knew at some point they would start bringing you to potential husbands, like a merch to be sold.
From the beginning you knew if you tried to fight it, you would only end up on the streets and miserable. So why not make the best out of it?
You actually had a very small decision power, and so far you rejected most of the men you were introduced to, for the only reason that: there was no benefit for you in marrying them.
That was until you were introduced to the future head of the Zenin clan, Naoya.
Not only his family had better financial conditions than yours, but also if you married him you would move to Tokyo. Being rich in a big city is everything you could ask for. So you agreed to be his wife.
You were introduced to his family a couple of times, during family events, and after getting the approval of elders you scheduled the wedding.
But you were not married to Naoya yet. So, you had no reasons to stop seeing your friends, until then.
Which led you to pay a visit to the long dark haired male you supported for a while now. His tongue was deep inside your mouth in a dark corner of his temple, his body pressed hard against yours, pinning you against the wall.
When he left your lips and moved to your neck, you slowly opened your lusted eyes just to find another set of cold green eyes passing in a hall next to you. A person you could not mistake for anyone else.
Toji Zenin.
Your fiancé’s cousin.
Toji passed so fast you couldn’t even guess if he recognized you. But if he did you would be screwed.
“Suguru…” you whispered, pushing his shoulders, “I’m afraid I should go now, I’ll leave the check on my way out” you said, fixing your clothes and pecking his lips.
“Of course” he gave you the space to walk away, “Congratulations on your wedding, by the way”.
After an agonizing week the wedding day finally came. You waited everyday for someone to deliver you the news that the wedding was canceled, but nobody said a thing. The night before the wedding, Naoya came to take you to the Zenin state, where the wedding would be hosted. You would stay in a separate bedroom that night and move to Naoya’s later. During the drive to the state, Naoya remained calm and composed, talking a few times about your duties as his wife, so you guessed that Toji hadn't recognized you that day.
You didn’t know much about him anyways, besides the fact he’s a Zenin, the few times you were in the same room your eyes would obviously be drawn towards him, though no words were exchanged between the two of you.
Upon arriving on the state you started to look around, but no sight of him. Maybe he wasn’t even an active part of the family, right? You had nothing to worry about.
Servants from the Zenin state entered and left your room every minute to do your makeup, hair and nails as the white wedding kimono laying in the bed waited to be worn.
“Can you bring me something to drink?” you asked the last servant in your room that was supposed to stay in and help you dress the kimono.
For now you were wearing a long silk white robe and nothing underneath, while you stared at the mirror reflection checking the final details of your makeup you heard the door sliding open and close.
“Bring me that thong on top of my suitcase” you ordered not actually looking at the direction of the door since you were behind a folding screen, “Do you think I should wear a bra? That Kimono looks so thick, no one would know…” you stared at your perky nipples clearly visible through the silk material of the robe.
“No, I don’t think you should” the same cold green set of eyes you saw last week found you again through the mirror.
“Toji” you gasped his name, turning to face the invasor and looking around searching for the servant.
“What? Are you afraid someone will find you with another man…” he stepped forward and you backwards like a hunted animal that had nowhere to escape “…again?”
Your heart was beating so fast you were afraid it would come out of your mouth.
“Does that prick know his bride is not a virgin?” he was so close you just then realized you have never seen him from this close, his features were so mesmerizing that when brought his index finger to lift your chin your heart was beating for a whole different reason now, “Let me rephrase that: does he know his bride is a whore?”
“I— Are y-you—” you stuttered trying to come up with a decent sentence and failing miserably.
“If I’m going to tell? No, I’m no snitch, sweetheart” he caressed his thumb on your chin and you sighed in relief, “But you’re family now, so you won’t mind me welcoming you the proper way, right?”.
Toji roughly turned you around, pressing his bulge to your butt and placing one hand on your tummy covered by the silk robe slowly bringing it up to your breast and groping it with zero shame.
“Oh, you asked for this?” his other hand showed the thong you asked thinking he was the servant. You gasped at the sight of the pink delicate material in his big calloused hands and tried to reach to catch it back only for him to withdraw his hand puting the piece in his back pocket, “I’ll give it back when we are done” the hand at your breast moved to the inside of your robe pinching your bare nipple and earning a lustful moan in return.
“Would you really fuck the bride at her own wedding?” you twisted your neck to find his eyes but you couldn’t help staring at the scar at the side of his lips.
“Oh, I would and I will. If you have any objections speak now or forever hold your peace” his dark lashes fluttered above his threatening eyes waiting for an answer from you.
How could you deny a man like him? This could be a test, yet something about that scar made you believe that Toji had no intention to play by the moral rules.
So you naturally brought his hand, that was not on your breast, to the bottom gap of your robe making him feel the slickness between your legs.
“Fuck, sweetheart, I really thought you would be just another righteous and obedient bitch to marry a Zenin” his chest vibrated with a chuckle behind you, he moved the robe away exposing both your breasts to the air and groped then simultaneously with one hand making your body melt against him. His other hand was playing around messing your slick and bringing it to your clit in circular motions, in your hazed mind you knew he was trying to make you produce even more wetness and your body shivered at the wonder of how big he was. You jiggled you ass trying to feel his length and of course he complied by rubbing his clothed cock against your cheeks.
Finally Toji inserted two thick fingers at once, your walls receiving him with some struggle as he experimentally pumped his fingers moving them to stretch you in a scissor movement, you dropped your head on his chest, mouth wide open.
“Such a waste that a cute little thing like you will marry that virgin prick...” he mumbled, bringing his head low to suck on the inviting skin of your neck while his fingers worked that magic inside you.
Toji couldn’t believe how angelic you looked right now melting on his arms, he already thought you were way too pretty to marry Naoya, but as far as he heard you actually agreed to the wedding, though some elders discussed that you looked too much like a gold digger to join the family.
Fuck, so what? I would be glad to give some gold to that pretty face.
The opportunity of his life came when he found you almost publicly fucking with that weird cult leader. Who knew that the perfect bride could be such a whore?
Toji was thrilled for, not only be fucking you, but fucking you an hour away from professing your love publicly for his cousin.
“Toji—” you moaned his name sinking your freshly done nails into his forearm but he pulled his fingers off just when you were about to get there and brought them into his mouth to taste you.
You turned around to complain but your thoughts were interrupted by Toji lifting you up and making you lay down on the chaise lounge chair while he removed his shirt and pants.
Many scars marked his torso and, you imagined, even more on his back. You sat up on the chair reaching your hand to grab his neck and bring his lips closer to yours.
“Needy whore” he complained on your lips but indulged in your wishes nevertheless, hovering over you meeting your soft lips.
Toji was definitely not a kisser, but how could he resist a needy little thing spread out with the white robe pooled around like angel wings? It was a heavenly sight for a sinner like him.
The man above you bit your lip before moving away and placing a cushion under your lower back to rise your hips. You understood why he paid such good attention to previously stretching you when he finally got rid of his boxers, his huge throbbing cock standing tall and angry against his defined abdomen. For a second you wondered if your future husband’s dick would be that hard just by touching you.
Toji took his shaft and rubbed it on your folds to properly lube himself before sinking into you.
“Get ready, sweetheart, you will think about this cock when your husband pathetically fucks you tonight” your toes curled immediately when he was all the way in. The way you felt him so deep inside you made you want to cry.
On the other side, Toji was panting, his eyes glued on your pussy taking him so well, even sucking him for more.
“This whore hole of yours doesn’t want me to go away, maybe I should steal you for myself, eh?” he brought his thumb down to meet your clit, caressing it to make you relax your grip around him. Finally he pulled off and thrusted back into you, his pace combined with the attention on your clit made you squirm and moan against your arm. Toji grabbed your waist to hold you still while he thrusted harder, the sound of his heavy balls slapping into your ass and your drenched pussy taking him were loud enough to bring a red tint of embarrassment to your face.
For a second you wished it was him you would meet at the altar today, his body you would see every night, his dick you would cum around tonight again.
But you already made your choices, so all you could do was enjoy the moment.
Toji stopped his ministrations when he felt you clenching more and more, your orgasm just a few thrusts away. You cried since this was the second time he edged you.
“Y-You—“
“Shh, be good for me and turn around” he pulled off completely and gave your pussy a light slap.
With a whine you turned around supporting your weight on trembling legs by placing your knees on the lounge chair and raising your ass in the air, the silk robe now covering your back and failing on your side.
“Atta girl” Toji praised and rose from his place to drag you to the edge of the chair while he stood behind you, one foot on the floor and one knee beside yours.
The second Toji’s cock entered you again, tears pooled on your eyes, blinding you with pleasure.
This position made it much easier for him to pick a rougher pace, hitting hard on your cervix making you see stars every time.
All the work put into your hair and makeup was wasted now you were nothing but a mess, as the knot in your tummy was threatening to be undone you had to bite the cushion to stop the inevitable scream of pleasure.
“If we had more time I would edge you all day until you came with a mere blow” he didn’t need to touch your clit with the way his balls were hitting it, his restless pace made your body move slightly forward with every thrust to the point the cushion bellow you was stimulating your sensible nipples as well.
It was all too much and you never came so hard like this, Toji kept thrusting faster and faster, you were still cumming when you felt another sensation.
“Fuck, look at the mess you’re making squirting all over me”.
Squirted?
Toji brushed his fingers on your pussy, still wrapped around his cock, gathering the juices you produced and bringing to his mouth, mind hazed with how delicious it was.
“You will let me taste you another time, won’t you?” he slapped your ass to wake you up from your bliss.
“Yes, whenever you want, Toji” you mumbled against the pillow, your weak voice and teared face were enough to send Toji to the edge.
The man only needed a few more thrusts to come with a loud groan, thick ropes of cum filled you to the brim, so much and you took it all.
“Good. Fucking. Girl.” he praised watching the white ring around the base of his cock before pulling out, freeing the path for his cum to run down from your pussy like a river, “Is that enough for this greedy hole?”
You laid on the chair trying to catch your breath and wondering how the hell you were supposed to walk in front of hundreds of people after that.
While you were at it, Toji dressed himself back and fished the cute thong off his pocket sliding it into your shaking legs.
“W-What do you think you’re doing?” you turned your head to watch him adjust the thin fabric on your sensible area.
Toji smiled at the sight of your widened eyes.
“That’s my wedding gift for you” he cupped your now covered cunt, “Gotta make sure it won’t go to waste, right?” he slapped your ass one last time before bending to kiss your neck, “And even if my cum runs down your legs while you stand there in front of all of those people promising to be loyal… at least it will match your white dress” he laughed and walked to the door turning around just when you were sitting up, “Welcome to the Zenin’s”.

💍husband "prank"💍
summary: referring to them as your husband even though you're still dating.

bakugo: "I'll have the chicken fingers with the side of fries, yeah, and the honey mustard please," you paused as the employee on the other end of the phone repeated your order before asking if there was anything else. "Uh, yeah, my husband will have the shrimp alfredo, with an extra side of bread sticks." You finished giving the order, oblivious to the confused look Katsuki was giving you. When you looked over at him you just raised an eyebrow, "what's up?" He nearly scoffed, half offended, "what's up? what's up? how long have you been calling me your husband?" he looked like he was practically pouting as he waited for your answer. "I guess a couple months now..." Katsuki huffed, cheeks tinted pink, "does that mean I can call you my [wife/husband/life partner]?" now it was your turn to look at him blankly before you shut your mouth and nodded, "Y-Yeah! I'd like that..."
kirishima: it was just supposed to be a simple trip to the grocery store in your hometown, but of course, nothing is ever that simple. Not even five minutes into the store and someone from high school stopped to 'chat'. The person you barely talked to all those years ago suddenly wanted to do nothing but talk with you. "Oh, yeah, this is my husband, Eijiorou!" you cheerily introduced Eijiorou who looked at you shocked before smiling at your old classmate. As you were walking away to continue shopping he leaned a bit closer to you and excitedly asked you, "Husband? Really? Would you really marry me???" his eyes twinkled when you laughed and told him "yes, i would marry you." the rest of the shopping trip was filled with Eijiorou asking you questions about the potential wedding, head off in dreamland as you inspected the apples. "Big or small? What color theme? Roses or lilies? Church or beach?"
todoroki: Shoto was innocently playing on your phone while you were in the shower, all with your permission of course, when you received a text message. "(Y/N), (Friend) just texted you!" he called out to you from the bedroom. "Oh, just go ahead and answer it for me!" Shoto nodded and opened your messages app. He read through the conversation to gain enough context, seeing you responded to your friend >Can't hang today, spending it with the husband!<, explaining their most recent text of >Awh, you two are so cute! How about tomorrow?< Shoto paused, rereading your text over a couple times, his cheeks blushing as he read you referring to him as your husband. After a minute of internally screaming he realized he still needed to respond for you. >Tomorrow the husband has something big planned for us, how about next week? I'll have something to show you then.< After he sent it he smiled to himself, knowing if you read it you'd be slightly confused. But the small black box Shoto kept in his shirt drawer would explain it all tomorrow.
midoriya: izuku groaned as he came out of the anesthesia, the commotion outside of the door breaking him from his rest. "that's my husband in there, you have to let me see him!" your voice was desperate and rushed as you talked to whoever was keeping you from entering. Whoever it was must have relented because soon after the door burst open with the sight of you rushing over to his bed. "darling! Are you alright? Well, clearly you're not alright, heavens, look at you..." Izuku smiled weakly at you as the nurse trailed in behind. "Please make sure not to stress him out. And only ten minutes." You scoffed and looked over your shoulder to them, "I won't stress him out and that's up to my husband, not you!" Izuku tilted his head slightly, wondering who your husband was. His slower thought process then came to the realization that it was him and then he spent ten minutes wondering when he proposed to you and another twenty trying to remember your wedding anniversary.
dabi: "Oh please, my husband could kick your ass with his eyes closed, now get lost you pervert." Dabi overheard you sass some man in the bar as he returned with your drinks. Mildly confused at the way his chest tightened when he heard you talk about him. And the whole husband title...shit, maybe it affected him more than he wanted it to. Regardless, his chest puffed out, more than willing to play that role of protective husband for you. "We got a problem here, dearest?" he questioned lowly, eyes locked with the man who was bothering you, Dabi relishing in the fear that flickered through the man's eyes. Maybe he could get used to that husband title after all...

“Pardon me, Milord,”
Both Tywin and Tyrion turned around to see a young girl, one of your handmaidens, hurrying towards them, remembering a clumsy curtsey in her haste.
“Speak,” Lord Tywin said sternly, and the girl paled briefly before turning instead to his son.
“It’s Lady YN,” she said, and Tyrion instantly stood up straighter, even more on edge. “She’s… sick, my Lord. Can’t keep anything in her stomach, and just now she fainted,”
“Where is she?” Tyrion asked urgently.
“Her bedchamber, Milord. We got a squire to help her back into bed,”
As Tyrion made to hurry after the girl, Tywin’s hand rested firmly on his shoulder. “I will send the maester. He will prove whether or not you have done your duty to this family,”
***
“YN, my dear, can you hear me?”
Slowly, your heavy eyelids slid open, and you turned your head to the source of the noise. Smiling weakly, you squeezed your husband of two month’s hand.
“Are you alright, my lady wife,” he asked you gently, brushing his lips over your knuckles.
“I’m fine. I just got a little dizzy. Must have stood up too quickly,” you said gently, but you did not soothe Tyrion’s worry.
“Your handmaiden said you’ve been ill?” He prompted, and your cheeks heated slightly.
“It’s probably just… my women’s troubles,” you said quietly, still unused to talking about such delicate matters with anyone other than an old septa.
“Or lack thereof, lady Lannister?” The maester spoke up from the end of your bed and you frowned, about to say there really was no need for all this fuss. “The maids say your linen has been clean since your wedding night,”
Clean linen.
Those two words instantly reminded you of when Cousin Cat came to stay at Riverrun with her brooding husband. She had stayed for over a month, and halfway through her stay, you heard gossip of clean linen as you wandered the corridors of your home. Later on that year, she had birthed another child for Ned Stark.
“Does that mean…” you began.
The wisened maester smiled at your bewilderment. “Potentially. If my Lord and Lady are agreeable, I would like to examine lady Lannister to be certain,”
Tyrion smiled gently and kissed your hand once more. “I will give you some privacy, my dear,” he said, and once you nodded, he left the room to bang on the door to his father’s office.
***
“Have you put a babe in her belly?”
Tyrion rolled his eyes at his father’s callousness. “She is being examined as we speak,”
“Good,” Tywin said, hardly looking up from his paperwork. “You’d best hope she is with child and not ill. There aren’t many noble families willing to pawn off a daughter to us,” Tywin sighed and gestured to the chair opposite his desk. “Sit,” he said. “You clearly have something more to say,”
Tyrion was silent for a moment. “I do not want to lose her. She is young. Too young for… this,”
“She is only a few years younger than you. And besides, that didn’t stop you consummating the marriage, did it?”
If anything went on in Casterly rock, Tywin Lannister certainly knew about it within a day.
“No, it didn’t,” Tyrion said. You were nineteen after all, and you had consummated your marriage out of duty to your families.
The night-time visits, on the other hand…
“I’m scared that a baby will… that it will kill her,” Tyrion blurted out, and he could have sworn he saw some semblance of sympathy flash through his father’s eyes. “I am scared that my child will be too much like me. That it will rip her in two and kill her. That it won’t even live in her womb. That it will suffer. That… that she will suffer,”
Tywin stared long and hard at his youngest son, his bastard in all but name as far as he was concerned and sighed. “So am I,” was all he said, before gesturing to the door. And as he left the office, Tyrion knew that Tywin did not care for your suffering, for his suffering, or even for the child’s suffering. He cared only that his legacy remained.
***
Casterly Rock was alive with gossip.
No matter which corridor you walked down, people would stare, both openly and discretely at your belly, which barely showed thanks to the layers you wore (Tyrion insisted you wrapped up warm whenever you walked through the gardens, lest you catch a chill). You could not go a day without the maester inquiring about your general health, and when your swollen ankles were brought to your husband’s attention, he had the cobblers fashion you a pair of comfortable, yet fashionable flat shoes.
***
You were laying in your husband’s bed one night on the sixth moon of your pregnancy, a hand resting on your bump. “Leave the books, husband, and come to bed. I need you to tell your child to stop kicking me so we can all go to sleep. He seems to only listen to you,” Tyrion looked up from his books and sighed, shutting them over and coming to bed, his hand resting over yours. “You’ve gained a sudden interest in midwifery, I see,” you teased, but when he did not smile at your jest, you frowned. “What’s bothering you, husband?” You said gently.
“I…” Tyrion fumbled for the words, his eyes firmly on your belly. “I am frightened, YN,” he said quietly. “That the baby will… will have… will be a little too much like me.”
Of course. You cursed yourself for not even thinking that this could be plaguing your husband. You clasped Tyrion’s hand in yours. “Tyrion… even if the baby is born a dwarf, we will not treat him the way your father treated you,” you insisted, drawing small circles on the back of his hands.
“But what if it kills you like I killed my mother,” your heart ached for him, and you tipped his chin up to face you.
“Then you must promise me to love this child regardless,”
Tyrion’s heart ached. Neither of you had wanted this marriage, yet in the few short months you had been wed he had become fond of you, affectionate. He wanted to protect you from the horrors of a kingdom still reeling from the Rebellion that saw the end of the Mad King. He wanted to see you happy and comfortable and healthy. He would spend all of the gold in Casterly Rock to ensure your safety, despite the fact that your marriage was merely one of strategy arranged by his father and your uncle. You were still his wife, the most precious thing in his life.
But over the past nine months, he could do nothing to alleviate your discomfort. He could only hold back your hair and rub your back as you vomited, the only thing you could seemingly keep in your stomach was dried bread. When you could manage dining anywhere but your chambers, he ordered for the things that turned your stomach to be kept well away. When your legs and feet ached, he could only rub them in hopes of soothing the throbbing. When the baby kicked like mad at night, he rubbed your swollen belly so that you could rest, if only for a few moments at a time.
He watched as the veritable mountain that was your bump sapped you of your energy, and he knew there was nothing he could do to restore it.
And when the time came for you to birth the child, he knew his heart would ache even more as you laboured for hours in agony, with him unable to do anything to take the pain away.
***
You went into labour at night, your sharp gasp of pain as you heaved yourself out of bed waking your husband.
“My dear, are you alright?” He asked urgently, not groggy despite the fact he had been snoring like a boar just thirty seconds prior. As he lit a candle, he saw you grasping onto one of the bedposts, lips pressed together, suppressing your groan. “I will be back in a moment, YN, okay? I’m going to get help,”
“Hurry,”
True to his word, Tyrion returned a few moments later with a few sleepy maids and a septa, who laid fresh linen over the bed and began to send for boiling water. The maester was hot on their heels, scrambling to loop his chains over his neck, before shooing Tyrion and the maids out of the room.
Your groans and cries of pain permeated the walls of your bedchamber and down the hallways of Casterly Rock, and by sunrise, coins were being exchanged on the outcome of your labour. The smallfolk crowded near the walls of the castle, eager to call out prayers in hopes that the rich old lions felt generous after the birth.
Tyrion paced just outside of the room you were in, and every time a maid went in with fresh, boiled water and clean linen or came out with bloodstained cloths and empty bowls, he asked urgently how you were doing, but no one gave him an answer.
The septa left the birthing room, walking straight past the father of your child to… the grandfather. They talked in quick, hushed voices, that could not be heard over your pained cries, but Tyrion caught the two of them looking over their shoulder at him several times.
As the septa went back into the birthing room, Tywin walked over to Tyrion. He seemed to be in no apparent rush, his steps stately. Tyrion resisted the urge to scream at his father, to curse him for tormenting him while you laboured.
“When you were brought into the world,” he began, voice level and low, so Tyrion had to strain to hear what he was saying. “You were born, for lack of a better term, arse first. But then your shoulders got stuck inside the womb, and when you finally emerged, you dragged half of your mother’s womb out with you,”
Both men paled. Not only were they weak stomached when it came to the secretive world of a birthing chamber, but Tywin was plagued with memories from twenty or so years before, and Tyrion was plagued with guilt for killing his mother when he was a newborn, and fear that his child would do the same to you.
Tywin continued. “But the Septa has reported that the child is being born head first, as it should,” Tyrion nodded slowly. Tywin was about to continue when the door opened again.
“Pardon, Milords,” a maid carrying an armful of bloodied linen said. “Lady YN has asked for Lord Tyrion to… support her. The maester has permitted it, so long as Milord stays at the top end of the bed,”
Tyrion was frozen for a moment.
“Go,” Tywin said lowly, giving his son a small shove. “Your lady wife needs you now,”
Tyrion looked over his shoulder, and he was sure he could see a small glimmer of… sympathy in his father’s eye. Kindness even. And it was this look, paired with the shift in the way you screamed that had him running into the birthing chamber.
“Tyrion!” You sobbed, one hand reaching for him, the other reaching above you to grasp at the headboard. One of your trusted hand maids, who you had brought with you from Riverrun was at your other side, pressing a cool cloth to your forehead. Tyrion hurried to your other side, just in time for the maester to tell you to push, and the child was at last parted with your body.
All was silent for a tense few moments, until sharp cries filled the room. You could hear the cheering from the corridors.
“A boy, my lady,” the maester called out, and you sobbed for joy. “A healthy son. A little on the delicate side-”
“Is he-”
“No. He is not like you, my Lord. I delivered you and your siblings, and your son is exactly the size your brother was when he was born,”
“Can I hold him?” You whispered, your arms reaching out.
“Of course, my lady. He is your son,”
The child was handed to you, nuzzled against the bare skin of your breasts, his little cries soon petering out to soft snuffles of sleep. The maester left to deliver the good news to the Lord of Casterly Rock, but your world consisted only of Tyrion and your son.
“He’s perfect,” he said, letting out a relieved laugh. “And he’s going to tower over me when he’s a man grown,” You gave a laugh, happy tears streaming down your cheeks as you rested your head on his shoulder. Tyrion pressed his lips to your temple. “You wonderful, wonderful woman, I love you,” he murmured. “I swear to you on the old gods and the new that I will protect you and my son from all harm,”
You rubbed your son’s back gently, not wanted to disturb his sleep and you looked up to your husband. “Thank you,” you whispered. Tyrion, my Lord husband. My love,”

this mans
is not husband material
but!
for the right girl? he may be willing to play the part
listen, mans may not be a simp but he is cHARMING okay? he got potential
besides he’s lowkey a simp for the right girl but whatever
was very romantic when he proposed
managed to rent out an entire park perks of being the #2 hero
decked out a gazebo with fairy lights, candles, and rose petals
considered making a heart with the rose petals but decided just scattering them around would be classier and less cheesy
set up a picnic with a basket f u l l of food
sandwiches, cheese, fruit, desserts, the works
and ofc a bottle of champagne bc tonight you two would be celebrating
or so he hoped
you wouldn’t say no right?
i mean who could say no to that gorgeous face pHEW
pulled out the ring box right as you swallowed the last of the macaron you’d been nibbling on
his heart sped up as your eyes widened, a breathless ‘keigo’ escaping your lips
“i know you might not be ready, but the more i get to know you, the more i realize that i don’t want to live the rest of my life without you. you’re the girl of my dreams, and i never want to wake up. would you marry me?”
“are you s t u p i d? ofc i will!”
his grin has never been as bright as it was at that moment
slipped the ring onto your finger and immediately pulled you into his arms and took off into the air
slowed your assent as you two soared above the clouds and spun around, unable to contain his joy
gazed at your face with those golden eyes, taking in your beauty, before giving you the sweetest, most tender kiss you’ve ever felt
oh boy the wedding
when i tell you this was an e v e n t i mean anyone who was anyone wanted to go to this wedding
but only those that were close to the two of you were invited
haha suckerrrs
somehow got all might to officiate
who knew all might could officiate weddings?
certainly neither of you
no one really knows how that decision came to be but i mean no one was complaining either so
he let you make all the decisions except for one
the flowers
he h a d to be involved in the flowers
he appreciates pretty flora and if the bouquets and floral arrangements at his wedding weren’t the prettiest possible he would n o t be satisfied
teared up as you walked down the aisle (which he will neither confirm nor deny)
not that he wasn’t lookin’ mighty fine too
just imagine: tan suit with a black button up and a gold tie, gold cufflinks with a ruby set in each
i know those are his costume colors but he looks good in them so y’all can fight me
dipped you for your first kiss as husband and wife to everyone’s amusement
best believe a few different cameras caught that
the timing of the wedding was planned out so the reception was held at night
semi-sheer white tents and custom black ten-feet tall candelabras
the soft glow from the candles combined with the moonlight made for the perfect dreamy vibe
he managed to find a florist that could dye white roses black and cover them them with a thin layer of gold glitter
was it necessary? no
did it look good? heck yeah
the gold glitter shined beautifully against the black roses
tho
the way your eyes sparkled as you danced with him was far more captivating
you two had flown up into the sky to dance your first dance together
your silhouettes against the bright moon made for a perfect picture
the only reason you ended up coming down was because neither of you had eaten much that day and a guy’s gotta eat
he gonna need stamina later *winky face*
you cannot convince me the man wouldn’t insist on fried chicken
like a whole buffet table of different flavors
but i mean fried chicken is good so can’t blame him
everyone expected him to smear some cake on your face when he fed you that first piece
instead wiped off the frosting that got on your lips with his thumb and licked it off
your best friend caught t h a t one on camera and will never stop teasing you about how flustered you got
he kept up a great image of a polite host but on the inside he was ready to g o
it had been a long day and he was ready love on his wife
heh
wife
he likes the sound of that
peppers your face with kisses on the ride home
yeah yeah i know h o n e y m o o n but where y’all were goin’ was forever away and mans just wants to shower you with affection as soon as possible (esp considering he had to keep his hands off you all day since you two never had a moment alone)
scoops you up the second you’re out of the car and carries you over the threshold
gives you a soft kiss before putting you down
and that’s the last soft kiss you’re gonna get for the night lolllll
definitely the type to make you breakfast in the morning
also the type to cook in nothing but an apron and boxers but anyway
you better be up in time to see that sight bc if not, you’re getting breakfast in bed not that i’d complain
he’s not the best cook but mans can manage some bacon and eggs
plus some fresh fruit bc it makes it more visually appealing and less like he doesn’t really know how to cook
he set the tray on your lap and climbs back into bed, pulling you into his side so your head can rest on his chest as you two munch on breakfast
there’s something so soothing about the sound of his heartbeat
a soft little rhythm that nearly puts you back the sleep
didn’t help that he was unconsciously running his fingertips along your arm, drawing random squiggles and shapes
will tilt your head up by the chin every so often to give you a little peck on the lips
if you do fall asleep, he’ll just gaze at you softly while lightly tracing your features
still can’t process that you’re married
someone actually loved him enough to marry him
there was someone that didn’t just admire or use him bc of his quirk
didn’t give him attention purely bc he’s the number 2 hero
you saw all his flaws and shortcomings and insecurities and loved him regardless
if he’s dreaming, please don’t wake him up
you cleaning him wings for him is something he loves so much
it’s such an intimate task that makes him feel cared for
loved
how much time you take in cleaning them and how tenderly you handle each wing
it’s one of his favorite ways to spend time with you
it’s nice being taken care of for once, esp when he’s always taking care of others
absolutely loves taking you on night flights
will take you in his arms and just soar above the clouds
with the clouds below you and the stars above, it feels like you two are the only people that exist
definitely dances with you during some of those flights
wraps one arm more tightly around your waist and take your hand in his and just… slowly spins in the air
it doesn’t look like much but when you’re just looking into each other’s eyes, it feels like the most romantic and intimate moment you could ask for
your life is quite literally in his hands but you’ve never felt safer
even more so when you wrap your arms around his neck and bury your face in the crook
his arms wound securely around your waist, the comforting smell of his scent, the kisses he presses to your temple every so often
it feels like home
likes startling/scaring you a lot
will sneak into the house after work just so he can tap on your shoulder from behind
the gasp you let out as you freak out for half a second never fails to amuse him the jerk
will always make it up to you with long, deep kiss
if he gets home late after a long day he’ll just crawl into bed and pull you into his arms before burying his face into your hair
no talking, just breathes in your scent before he crashes
he sleeps really well like that, but, although he won’t admit it, he sleeps best when you hold him, his face buried in your chest
he feels warm and safe, like it’s okay to be vulnerable for once
absolutely flirts with you while at work
probably definitely sends you a few spicy pics or texts
it gives him such smug satisfaction knowing the affect he has on you when he’s not even physically there
picks up take-out when he knows your too tired to or would rather not cook
like to back hug you and wrap you up with his wings
9/10 times will bury his face in your neck and nuzzle
sometimes if he spots you while on patrol, he’ll fly over and flirt with you
“how you doin’, gorgeous? the name’s hawks. what’s a pretty lil’ thing like you doin’ in a neighborhood like this?”
sir, this is one of the safest areas in the city pLS-
but if you actually a r e in danger? oh boy
no one, and i mean no one, touches his girl
honestly i’d rather fight bakugo one on one than deal with keigo’s wrath
he’s one of the chillest people you will ever meet, but when he’s that mad? s c a r y
will keep a close watch on you for a while after that
asks you to always let him know where you’ll be and to text him when you get home
definitely considered installing a tracking app on your phones
he’ll calm down eventually, but for the moment he’s extremely anxious
although he certainly tried his best to hide it
he didn’t want to stress you out too, especially if you had any anxieties from it yourself
he was just afraid to lose you
he doesn’t know what he’d do without you
after all, you’re the most precious thing in the world to him and he loves you more than he could ever put into words

A Failed Betrothal (4)
Am I doing this right? I mostly do write this when I am between the state of sleep and awareness. Hope you enjoy this.
[Masterlist]
(Part 1) (Part 3)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PART 4
Marinette came to a dungeon cell with two other prisoners. One of them was awake and he looked vaguely familiar. The other had an ugly red helmet that didn’t help with the headache she had.
“Do you know where we are?” She asked the handsome stranger with beautiful green eyes, her throat a little dry.
Wait. Handsome?
No bad Marinette. Don’t fall for fellow prisoners, no matter how cute he looks. Oh Kwamis, she was already screwed.
He still hadn’t replied. Maybe he didn’t understand French. She tried to ask again in another language before her enhanced hearing picked up the sound of footsteps. She faked unconsciousness. Later, she heard the iron door open. She looked through the tiniest slits of her eyes she could muster while the two held a staring/glaring match. Oh shit, that’s the fame Talia Al Ghul, daughter of Ra’s, head of the League of Shadows, and the boy she was glaring at had some resemblance to her, so he must be her son, Dennis? Daniel? Damon?
"Damian, I hope you know what you should do."
Ohh..Damian. Where had she heard that name before?
"To be forcefully married to that little girl. She is no one special. Why am I getting married to her?"
Ouch, that hurts. Well, Damian, just because I forgot your name does not mean you can call me a little girl. I can also kill you very easily and painfully.
“Well, Jason, you are awake. You can be the best man for the wedding.”
“No. I don’t know what game you are playing but you better release us. B is gonna find us and you will pay. Let the girl go. She is innocent in all of this.” Red Helmet, Jason, is officially not going on her hit list for his atrocious fashion choices. But that red monstrosity still needs to go.
"Ladybug may not seem like it but she possesses great power that my father converted for centuries. Speaking of, she should be awake by now."
Marinette felt her hair being yanked. A little pain was expected but the really sharp claws digging into her scalp was not. Making her cry and tear up.
”I am so sorry, kit.” Plagg whispered in the kwami language, loosening his claws.
"Tch, See, she is more pathetic than I thought. She is not powerful." Damian growled out.
Geez, thanks for the compliment, it’s not like you ever had a tiny cat dig its claws into your scalp out of surprise. (Damian once had a kitten thrown at his head and if he knew about Plagg, he would have been sympathetic.) Marinette started begging for mercy, hoping they would buy the helpless girl out of the suit that is ill-suited for the job she had been chosen for and had no idea on how to escape.
“Like I thought, weak. She is not deserving of the title of my wife.”
Oh kwamis, what did she ever do to have such a picky groom? The more he insults her, the less she wants to be married to him.
"Appearance can be deceiving. Despite her demeanor, she is the current wielder of the Ladybug Miraculous and the Current Guardian. The old Guardian, the old fool had promised her in exchange for his protection."
Great, another reason to stop her mother from killing a senile old man.
"That doesn't mean I want to marry her. She is not worthy of an Al Ghul or a Wayne. Look at her, crying at the slightest feeling of pain."
So that’s where she heard it from. The boy was the son of the daughter of a guy who leads a secret order of assassins and a man that owns a multi-million business. How even did a billionaire meet an assassin, ends up in bed with her and lives? Something to think about for later. She quieted down her sobs, (beat that acting, Rossi) kept her voice low to hatch out a plan with Plagg in the kwami language while the mother-son duo bickered.
“Hey, Plagg before you go, you think I can do that thing, the one which your one of your past holders from Japan can do.”
“You have a lot of potential for destruction but you have not used the ring for a long time yet so I am not sure.”
“I will give it a go anyways. Nothing to lose after all. See you later, Plagg.” Marinette smiled, one that drove fear into the hearts of even the bravest of people. Plagg returned it, already loving the new Guardian before zipping out of the cell to do some scouting. Using the enhanced strength the French superheroine got from prolonged use of the Miraculous, she yanked the chains of the walls and wrapped them around Talia’s neck, cutting off her air supply.
The League of Assassins thought that they could kidnap her and get away with it. But they were no match for the daughter of Sabine Cheng, the deadly Blue Reaper. A high ranking member from the group of assassins and mercenaries called the Guild of Night, who had semi-retired. Kidnapping her was a bad move to make as it meant they had declared war on the Guild, despite the reason behind her abduction having a completely different intention.
She whispered as such to the older woman in her tight grip, making sure the League would know how much they had fucked up. After dropping the limp body, she took a deep breath and tried channeling some of her energy for what she was about to do.
Well, here goes nothing.
She breathed out on the shackles, turning it to rust.
Success!
She introduced herself as Lady and concentrated the energy from before into her hand, forming inky black orbs of destruction in order to free her fellow captives. She felt a little drained from doing magic out of the suit and tried not to show it. Plagg returned, informing her of where the Ra’s and the Pits were. She grinned at the thought of showing old Ra’s who the boss is and made sure he regretted ever messing with her. She explained about Plagg as vaguely as she can, no need to let anyone know about the miraculous than necessary. Sure her plan sounds insane but the boys don’t know who they were with.
She would worry about that curse after she got out of Nanda Parbat. Although she could probably find something in the grimoire to reverse it, she was still an amateur at magic so it was best to have a professional to take care of it. Marinette didn’t want to be with such an asshole, no matter how striking he looks in those regal robes.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Picking off the League assassins, one by one was easy especially in her transformed state. She hadn’t appraised her suit properly but from what she had seen, it wasn’t like Chat Noir’s leather get-up. She was armoured in vital areas and her colour scheme was mainly black with green accents. There were vials that were probably poisons and pouches which she decided to look at later. She still had a long braid as a tail from her brief stint as Lady Noire and she wondered why her suit was different. While hiding in a niche she found, she called the bakery via the comm in one of her various pouches.
“Hello?”
“Papa, it’s me, Marinette. Do you know where Maman is?”
“She went out of Paris, talking about how this League must pay. I think she is meeting up with several of her old friends. Are you alright, my little blossom? I know you can take care of yourself but I worry.” The relief in Tom’s voice was palpable. However, she was right and the Guild was going to war against the League. Marinette was adored by nearly everyone in the Guild due to her strangely bubbly and cheery personality in the harsh and brutal lifestyle.
“I am fine, Papa. Did Maman use the Horse to leave? And how are my friends?” She knew they might be in a panic after her disappearance.
“I think she did. I didn’t see Kalki when I went to feed the kwamis. Your friends panicked when they found out you were kidnapped. But they are fine now, mostly worried about you. Took care of some akumas and senti monsters by themselves. I think your fencer friend, Kagami, knows more about the League than she lets on.” Of course, she does. Her mother was a member of the Guild before being blinded due to a mission. Kagami and her actually first met during a reunion party of sorts.
“Thank you, Papa. Love you.”
“Love you too.”
She hung up and dialed the personal phone number her mother uses that only Marinette and her father knows about. She waited for the call to connect, trying to think of ways to stop her mother from storming into the League’s base of operation.
“Maman, it’s me. I know you want to attack the League right this minute. But I have a better plan. Can you get Tikki’s earrings from Alix? We can use them and the ring to destroy the Lazarus Pits. Make them really angry.” She peeked out of the niche she was hiding in. She had been there for a while and needed to move to gain some grounds.
“Where are you? And are you okay?” Panic and worry filled her usually composed mother’s voice.
“I am somewhere in Nanda Parbat and I am fine. I was nearly married off to Talia’s son but I am not now. I think.” Marinette replied. Better to rip that band-aid off before she showed up with her would-have-been-husband. She jumped out of the niche and looked
“Kalki, Full Gallop. Okay, we will talk about the ‘nearly married’ part later. What was this plan to destroy the Lazarus Pits?” Sabine thought she was already used to Marinette’s brand of craziness that was her normal but apparently, not.
“I am currently on my way there. Plagg said we need Tikki to get rid of them. Since the League pissed me off and by extension you and the rest of the Guild, I thought our first move against them is to destroy the Pits and a trail of bodies. By the way, can you get some cheese for Plagg?” Marinette ran through the halls, knocking out some poor sod with a whack on the head.
Silence. She thought Sabine had hung up when-
“Voyage. Alix, where are you? We need Tikki for one of Marinette’s insane plans. And Marinette, stay safe, sweety, I’ll be there in 15 minutes.”
“Bye, Maman. See you there.”
Marinette turned another corner, the last one before the path that leads to the entrance where the Lazarus Pits were. She only managed to find it with Plagg’s voice in her head, whispering directions and Tikki’s luck. Unfortunately, the luck ran out because the entrance had a lot of guards who had spotted her.
Crap.
She hoped her mother would get here soon. Thankfully, being transformed gave her a boost and would help her to hold her ground for a while.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Damian and Red Hood followed the trail of unconscious bodies and sounds of fights, trying to find Lady. Damian was impressed at the level of her skills to defeat many of the League’s assassins although he could probably do better. They relied on his memory to find the Lazarus Pits which was their best bet to finding her as she claimed to be able to destroy them. If Lady possessed such powers, they must find out whether she is a threat to the world or not. And also break the infernal curse they have.
Red Hood was silent mostly. He made a few jabs about how kick ass his ‘bride’ was and how the current Robin should not let her get away. Damian tried really hard not to just maim his adopted brother and also ignore that little fluttering in his chest that happened every time they saw an unconscious assassin left behind by Lady. The sounds of fighting got louder as they got nearer to the entrance. They turned the final corner to see Lady fighting against the guards who outnumbered her. But she seemed to be doing fine against them. Mostly.
One had slipped through her defenses and nearly stabbed her in the back if it weren’t for Damian grabbing one of Red Hood’s guns and shooting a rubber bullet to the neck. He jumped into the fight, grabbing the fallen assassin’s sword and taking out the knife he got from his mother. Jason joined in too, not going to let the two teens have all the fun.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Thanks for the save, Al Ghul but I don’t know why you bothered when me being dead would solve your curse problem.” Lady said as the guards laid around them and they tried to catch their breath.
“It’s Wayne. I go by Wayne these days. Being an Al Ghul is not something I learned to be proud of. And as much as I don’t want this curse, your death is not worth that price.” he replied, “Although, I have to wonder why you would choose to die rather than live.”
She chuckled, “Okay, Wayne, to answer your question. Petty teenage drama makes death much more preferable. On top of that, I have responsibilities that I was practically forced into for doing one little act of kindness.” Her tone was joking but there was a touch of bitterness in it. It made Damian want to find out what caused it. Red Hood looked at her in concern. Lady went down the stairs, ignoring their reactions to her words. They followed her, not wanting to lose sight of her again.
The Lazarus Pits emitted a green glow that lit up the cave and cast strange shadows on the walls. At the edge of the glowing toxic green waters was a woman in dark blue clothing and strangely enough wearing sunglasses. Strapped to her sides were two Dao, ancient Chinese swords. She wore a vindictive expression on her face as she stood staring at the green lake, likely to kill anyone who gets in her way. Damian didn’t recognize the woman as part of the League but taking no chances, he got into a fighting stance and Hood did the same. Lady calmly approached the woman. He reached out to grab her to stop her suicidal nature when she shocked him by speaking to the blue-clad assassin in French,
“Hey, Maman, sorry I am late. I had a little trouble with the guards upstairs. You have Tikki?”
Lady’s mother rushed to hug her, “灵儿 (líng er), I am just glad you are alright. I knew you could handle yourself.”
How the hell did Lady’s mother get to the Lazarus Pits faster than them and snuck past several vigilant guards? Before Damian could question further, a red blur appeared and went to Lady’s face, hugging her cheek. It appeared to be the same size as Plagg but was red, looked like a bug and had a black dot on its forehead.
“Oh, Marinette, you are alright. I was so worried when your mother showed up, saying you were kidnapped and needed my earrings to escape.” Unlike Plagg’s nasally voice, her voice was sweet and shrill.
So, my bride’s name is Marinette. Such a unique name for an intriguing girl.
Wait what?
Wayne, stop thinking such ridiculous notions. That is probably the curse working. Resist against it. He will not be ensnared in the traps of such magic. He hoped that the curse will be reversed before he turns and act like those fools in Grayson’s idiotic shows or Todd’s ‘secret’ romance novels.
“I am fine now. See,” reassured Lady, “We actually need you and Plagg to reverse the Lazarus Pits to what it was before someone made the wish that resulted in them in the first place. Oh, I almost forgot. Plagg, claws in.”
Green light flashed, leaving Lady in her wedding robes (which actually flatter her body. Shit. Think of something else. Drake with a smug superior smile that needs to be wiped off his face. Grayson and his plans for ‘family bonding’) and Plagg to reappear.
“Cheese.” whined the cat-like kwami(?) to which the older woman held out a brown bag that smelled and made Plagg perk up in delight. He proceeded to open the bag, taking out a slice of stinky cheese, muttering about the greatness of camembert.
Todd cleared his throat and asked in English, “Umm...Pixie as much as your reunion is touching. Who’s the new lady?”
“Oh Right, sorry. Well, Red Hood, this is my mother, the Blue Reaper of the Guild of Night. Maman, this is Red Hood and the one next to him is my husband-to-be and Talia’s Spawn, Damian Wayne.”
Lady introduced them, also in English. Damian stilled in fear, recognizing the name. The Blue Reaper nearly became his mother-in-law. She was famous for her efficiency and ruthlessness. And gained her nickname from the blue clothing she often wore as she killed her targets. His eyes also widened at how his grandfather had gone a little too far now by kidnapping the Reaper’s daughter. There were other organizations that could possibly take down the League if it weren’t for the somewhat truce between Ra’s and the other leaders. The Guild was one of them and having the Lazarus Pits to revive their soldiers made the League a little more powerful. But if what the mother-daughter duo were planning succeeded, then the League was going to have one of its most deadly wars in its history and would probably never recover from.
“Tikki, Plagg, you guys ready?” asked Lady.
“Yes, Guardian.” They both replied and emitted a blinding red and green light which Damian shielded his eyes from. When it died down, the Lazarus Pits no longer glowed a toxic green and looked… like normal hot spring water.
“Oh. I wished I could see Ra’s face when he finds out.” Lady laughed. Plagg and Todd joined in.
“Pixie, I am beginning to like you.”
“Voyage. That being said, it’s time to go home, Marinette. Your father must be worried sick about us by now. I hope you boys can find your own way back.” A portal opened up, showing a cozy living room. Damian grabbed Lady’s wrist as she moved towards it.
“Wait, let us come with you. We need to contact someone to get rid of the curse on both of us. And we can also call our father to send us tickets for a ride home wherever you live.”
“Curse? Marinette, you never mentioned a curse in your call.” Blue Reaper said, raising her eyebrow.
“I will explain later. They can come with us and I am pretty sure Ra’s knows that we have escaped by now.” Lady grabbed the two brothers and dragged them through the portal.
She then threw herself onto the couch after releasing her hold on them and the two pocket gods went to comfort her after her ordeal. The Blue Reaper stood where the other portal was and fed a floating tiny gray horse, that must be the same species as Tikki or Plagg, some sugarcubes.
“You boys must be tired but the showers are upstairs and we might have some clothes your size. Dinner will be ready in an hour. You can stay the night if you want. Welcome to Paris.”

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
It had taken you a while to get somewhere in your relationship with Loki.
When the two of you were informed you had already been promised to one another before either of your births, you weren’t too shocked. As both of you came from royal standings, arranged marriages were far too common for a variety of reasons. In your case, it was to cement a peace treaty.
Sure, at first, you and Loki were very annoyed with the decision, especially since neither of you was ever even given the chance to be in on the conversation but that annoyance wasn’t allowed for very long. You two were adults now and had to take on your royal responsibilities as such. That responsibility included following through on the outlined marriage.
Loki didn’t seem to harbor any malice towards you and you never held anything against him. But, still, it wasn’t like you two were in love. You were tolerating one another.
And for a while, that toleration was enough. As a couple, you were quite poised in public. Sometimes you thought maybe it was hard for others to believe it was an arranged marriage based on how much you seemed to accept each other’s company. It was okay at times, you felt like you had a friend. Being a royal in a whole new palace could be lonely. Loki at least would spare you some time to sit and chat.
But this unusual friendship you two had started after the wedding was growing into something else for you day by day. And as much as he probably wanted to deny it, you could see something shift within Loki. He’d look at you differently. Reach for your hand when out of the public eye. Even began inviting you to spend his leisure time with him.
There was no avoiding the fact you two were headed on a different course than originally planned in this arrangement and despite its prevalence, you two didn’t speak about it. But you were growing greatly tired of ignoring it.
"We should go on a date," you suddenly said one afternoon. You and Loki were sitting in the library. He was in his favorite chair, consumed with some fairytale while you were seated on the couch across from him, in the process of knitting…something. You didn’t know what — you had only taken up knitting because you had heard other princesses did it. Making scarves had become all the rage.
You could feel Loki eyeing you suspiciously as you tried working on another stitch.
Eventually, he placed his book to the side and spoke. "A date?" Loki echoed.
You shrugged, not taking your eyes off the yarn. "Yeah, a date. You know, just the two of us. We could go out or — or maybe make some dinner here. I’ve been having the kitchen servants teach me about cooking."
"I know what a date is," he sighed. "What I meant is, why should we go on a date? We’re already married."
You felt a bit defeated with that response. You set your yarn on your lap and looked at your husband. He was watching you quite intensely, waiting for your answer. You shivered under the icy stare.
"Y-You don’t want to—"
Loki cut you off abruptly. "I didn’t say that." He glanced down then back at you. "It’s just that… Dates are for wooing, yes? Why would I need that when I can already tell you’re taken with me."
Your heart dropped. You blinked at him, stunned. You hadn’t expected him to just…admit he knew what was working up in your mind. There was some pride in his eyes at your reaction but behind it, you could make out a hint of fascination.
You tried shaking off your pounding heart. You promptly picked back up the yarn, continuing your hopeless scarf, as you responded, "Have you never considered that maybe your wife still wants to be wooed despite the status of her interest."
"So you admit," he chuckled, "you have fallen for me."
You scoffed, "Don’t act all high and mighty. I’m well aware of how you look at me."
You heard Loki lean back in the chair as the leather of it creaked. You could feel his eyes roaming over you but you didn’t know in what capacity. Whatever was in his eyes now you were ignoring as you frantically tried to focus on knitting and not your love confession.
"Okay," he eventually said. "We’ll have a date."
It was impossible for you to hold back the smile forming on your lips.
***
After minimal deliberation, Loki agreed to let you cook for him. You had heard that the Midgardians used food as signs of love and were fascinated with trying to learn some dishes. You studied with the servants for days trying to perfect a meal. They were always a little uncertain about letting a princess in where servant frequented but once you explained this time you were cooking to please your husband, they giggled like schoolgirls, excited to help.
Once you felt prepared enough, you informed your husband of when you wanted the date. You may have had to do some rework of both your royal schedules but it was fine. Meetings are forever, love can be fleeting.
You were preparing the food when Loki hesitantly entered the kitchen. You had explained that you two would be eating at the kitchen table. It was just a little table where servants usually sat to eat meals or relax in between shifts.
Loki had originally protested this saying he was not of such low status. You assured him that there was no intimacy to be found at the grand dining hall. It was far too big and annoying for two people. He didn’t argue further, just mumbling that he’d be there at the time requested.
And, luckily, he followed through.
"Hi, honey," you smiled, watching the stew simmer above the flame.
Loki took his seat gently as if he was going to catch something from the table. "This is really what you wanted to do for our date?"
You nodded. "I’ve had so much fun learning this meal and doesn’t it smell great? I think it’s going to be nice. I ever have bread baking." You motioned towards the stone oven. Loki followed your gaze but didn’t look impressed yet.
"We could’ve very easily had someone make this for us," Loki pointed out. "We have that luxury, darling."
You rolled your eyes, turning back to your bubbling stew. You could feel your anger bubbling in the same fashion.
"That’s not the point, Loki," you said, the tone in the kitchen shifting as you spoke his name. You rarely ever did. He perked up as you continued, "The point is that I, your wife, like you and would like to express my adornment through a freshly cooked meal."
Loki fell silent with that, something that was so rare for him. You didn’t push any further, though, and instead killed the fire under the stew and presented your bread from the oven. You divided it out into individual portions then placed each on the table. Still with an annoyed, sour look, you sat across from your husband. He was watching the stew, you were watching him.
"It—It looks delicious," he said
"Thank you," you mumbled. You two dug in then, this date now turning out a bit more awkward than you had planned. Neither of you spoke for a while, instead filling the kitchen with the slurping of soup and chewing of bread.
Loki soon began looking between you and the food like he was working up the courage to say something which was absolutely ridiculous to you. Your husband was one of the most outspoken people in the realm.
Eventually, you just decided to look up at him, your eyes begging for him to say whatever he wanted to say.
"This meal is lovely," Loki eventually said. "Th-Thank you for…doing all this."
You smiled, a faint blush creeping up on your cheeks. "You’re welcome."
Loki finished his stew then asked, "What else should we do on this date?"
Now you were really blushing. While taking your little cooking classes, you asked the servants what else goes on on dates. They seemed like lovely girls and you were curious. You had heard stories before of dancing and parties but you wanted something more intimate and you had never actually been on much of a date before. You spent time with boys in your youth and the night before your wedding you and Loki had talked for a little bit but nothing was ever of such fashion.
One servant had informed you, quite shyly, that she and her boyfriend always finished their dates by making out. You had gasped, amazed at her bluntness but then remembered these were servant girls. They lived far less controlled lives than you.
You were partially envious but then you realized, technically, you had a husband. A husband who was capable of making out with you even if such actions and beyond were typically reserved for very a calculated time — heir bearing, such intimacy only happened during the time when potential conception was at its peak.
"Well," you said, running your spoon through your bowl of stew, "one of the servants that helped me said her and her boyfriend end their dates with make-outs."
"Making out?" Loki repeated, brows raised in surprise. "But it’s not—"
"I know."
He looked away. You could practically see the gears turning in his brain. "You want to make out with me for fun."
You giggled at his shock. "Is that so unbelievable? I thought we already established I am into my husband."
"Yes, but you, well, neither of us, have never been so bold before."
"But it’s not such a bad thing," you shrugged, "to be so bold."
Loki hummed in agreement as he eyed you. There was something in his expression you couldn’t quite put your finger on but you definitely knew something between you two had shifted. It had already been shifting, sure, but your newly expressed desires opened the dam walls.
"Alright, dear, I think I can indulge you."
You smiled at his excitement which he was certainly trying to hide. But you maybe wanted to take a moment to maybe mess with him a bit. "Hmm," you glanced around at the dirty pots and pans, "after we clean up."
Loki’s jaw dropped. "What?"
"We can get on with our date once we clean up."
"You’re kidding me, right?" He pointedly asked. You shook your head. Loki huffed, "When did my wife become such a tease?"
You stood up, collecting your bowls and plates, bringing them to the counter. "I’ve always been like this, honey," you said. "Maybe you just have to get to know me a little bit more."
Loki began stalking towards you as you pretended to be fooling with the dirty dishes. "Well, darling," he said as his hands came upon your hips, "there’s something you must know about me and it’s that I don’t like to be kept waiting."
"I can maybe leave all this for later if you ask nicely."
He scoffed. "Are you asking me to beg?"
You shook your head. "I’m just asking you to ask nicely."
"Fine," he sighed. "Please, can we make out now?"
You sighed, leaning into his hard body. His arms moved to wrap around your waist now. "Yes, your majesty."
Loki chuckled lowly, dangerously, in your ear. "Thank you, princess."
He leaned his head around and within seconds, your lips were captured with his, getting more and more lost in one another as you two become a miss of kisses and touches.

Escapism
noun
the tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realities, especially by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy ♡
You had known all about this during your short lifespan, as a child you’d often play pretend with your sister that you were movie stars living in a five star hotel rather than the shitty busted up apartment on the wrong side of town. Escapism came in, many forms. It was often a way for people to cope psychologically, simply because sometimes, facing the reality of your situation can be too much for one person to handle mentally.
Or at least, that was the topic of your lecture today in class. The human mind always fascinated you. Even at the young tender age when your mom died and you watched your once cozy little family fall apart piece by piece until nothing was left in its wake.
It was your fascination that drove you now for most things, why? Why, why, why? You always wondered what the motive was behind someone’s actions, not only thing but you wanted to  understand them better, to try and sympathize. You were already fairly intuitive in nature. It wasn’t difficult to read people. In fact your line of work made it easy, you’d watch a man who would be excited to be with you reach for his left finger as if used to touching something. A wedding band perhaps?
The lowlife cheater was fairly common in a whore house after all. Or the man who had been pissy this morning behind you in line because you had decided to try something new on the menu and you weren’t fast enough, obviously because he was tardy and woke up late, his shirt unbeknownst to him was button the wrong way and his tie loose and even the way his hair fell were all signs of being late to work.
It was the little things you noticed in people’s facial expressions, the way they moved and spoke. You could read people like a book, and sure sometimes it was useful. But you often wished you weren’t so perceptive. It drove you mad knowing when a potential love interest was no longer interested through a simple text or a friend not wanting to talk by their tone. Sometimes you wished you could just blot it all out, still, you lived like this day in and day out, you were used to this kind of thing and honestly. Friends? Love? Your gaze dropped a little to your feet, the pumps you were wearing a jet black and the heel too high for any respectable woman to ever wear.
...It wasn’t like you ever had any of those in your life and you had struggled to come to terms with the fact that you could survive without that kind of support. Still...it made you envious, the couple happily holding hands on the sidewalk. The group of friends all laughing at a table while they studied. Oftentimes these feelings are muted, but when you’re faced with something you’ve always craved, those muted feelings suddenly become hyperactive in your mind.
It’s pathetic, honestly.
“How dare you! You disgusting slut!”
In this moment however, you were brought back to reality at just what was happening, you squeaked loudly as you dodged the shoe the woman had thrown at you. This was all a regular occurrence, you had a lot of regulars who weren’t the most amazing people but hey, money was money. But along with them they also left a trail which their wives and girlfriends always followed. And then they always blamed you instead of their partner for leaving them for a prostitute despite you never having agreed to anything such as that.
It really wasn’t your fault, you were just trying to make a living while juggling with keeping up your own education, paying your fathers debts, rent and still somehow getting food on the table. What part time college job could provide that?
Prostitution wasn’t a job you would’ve gone into willingly but given the past and your trauma that was already laced in it you had been learning that sometimes because of the trauma we experience, sometimes people go back to that same trauma and actively participate in it as a way of feeling like they’re in control.
That whatever happened before, would never happen again if you were in control. You weren’t sure if you qualified under this category, trauma came in many forms but the one most used as an example in your class was that a study showed that women who were assaulted often develop a kink for consensual non consent as a way of coping with what happened, except this time, it’s in a controlled environment where it can end the moment they want it too.
Again, you weren’t sure you fell into this category, but you often wondered if your line of work was intertwined with your earlier memories when you were younger, if anything it brought comfort to you. Much of it, blotted out now simply because your mind couldn’t take it. Trauma expressed through amnesia was also much more common than many thought, and it’s so small, so easy to miss. After all how can you be aware of something if you have no memory of it anymore?
“Security!” Your manager screeched, two of the bodyguards were already between you and the feral woman who was ready to gut you clean as she screamed hysterically, her husband...your regular....at her side trying to get her to calm down only for her to come to her senses and slap him clean across the face. You didn’t condone violence, but he did have it coming...
You weren’t about to justify cheaters, you couldn’t imagine the hurt someone had to feel that not only did their partner cheat on them, but it was with someone...like you...You had been trying not to put down your job occupation, sex workers were just as valid as anyone else...you knew you would’ve thought this way if it was anyone but you in this position.
You sighed as you ran your hands through your hair, watching the couple get dragged out of the tight space of the brothel, “Jesus christ....didn’t you say you stopped using perfume because of this?” Miki, your manager sighed as she crossed her arms. You didn’t want to say your manager was your friend but she was the closest you had as you’d often complain to her about most of your problems. Sex work often attracted broken people, it wasn’t something she wasn’t used to.
“Yeah, but apparently he never got around to washing his clothes…” You wiped your mouth on the back of your hand, “Lipstick stain,” You glanced down at the ruby pink color that stained your skin now, “Fuck...that did hurt.” You rubbed your sore cheek that was still throbbing from where she had first slapped it when she ripped the door open of the room where she got to see with her own eyes you riding her husband.
It had happened so many times now you weren’t even embarrassed about someone walking in let alone a partner. Miki gave you a lopsided smile as she patted your shoulder, “Guess that just pays for being one of the best here. Did you at least get paid.”
You nodded, “Yeah, I always make them pay in advanced but I was hoping to get a tip afterwards...He was a lawyer so you know he had good money.” You sighed, crossing your arms, you were well aware of his partner because a lot of the time he didn’t even come in for sex anymore. It was funny how humans work.
He often felt his wife was overbearing and you had suspected some sort of verbal abuse by the way he talked about her constant screaming. Truthfully, you don’t think he ever intended on cheating with her. He just wanted someone to talk to without being judged, you could relate with sympathy to that, but he unfortunately chose to walk into a brothel instead of a therapy clinic and this truly was the only inevitable outcome. Still, you hope if for anyone’s sake, he gets that divorce for himself.
“Hey I think I’m gonna call it a day. I need to get back to Nanami, she was wanting to talk to me about college applications.” You sighed as you rubbed your neck, ever since she had graduated high school she had been chomping at the bit to start applying for college, maybe to just get out of the house and into a dorm. You couldn’t blame her and if she did that it would lighten your load a little.
Guilt washed over you at the thought as Miki chuckled, “They grow up pretty fast huh? My brother was the same way, except the moment he found out I was a sex worker was the moment he called me a whore and we haven’t talked since. That was probably about five years ago,” She crossed her arms as she sighed, “Crazy how the things we do for the ones we love, never appreciate our effort...I’ll see you tomorrow then?”
“If I’m not bruising.” You offered a weak smile as you nodded at her before going back to your room to get changed. Truthfully, you much like anyone else, often wished you could go to a world where reality wasn’t a concept any longer. Where you could lay out in the sun for the whole day and just soak up it’s rays with no worries or trepidations.
But sooner then later everyone had to face their fears. Even you, you supposed. But no matter how hard you fought your demons, they always came back tenfold. Again, you supposed your story was no different from tens of thousands, and yet you all live on regardless. Maybe it’s you who should be the one seeking therapy. Pulling on your jeans and the cropped top over your head before pulling the jacket over your arms and grabbing your bag.
The walk home was as quiet as ever, your hood over your head and earbuds any unwanted attention, it wasn’t too late at night, only eleven PM and your work had just been getting started but that had ruined the night for you and besides, you had already failed a test today, you could use the sleep tonight.
Occasionally you’d hear the sirens of  a cop car passing by or a bystander shout, nothing out of the ordinary in this neighborhood. Walking up to the apartment complex you pulled the key from your bag as you unlocked the door. Quietly stepping insides as you shut the door before locking it once more. Your nose wrinkled at the smell of stale air mixed with rotten...something…
If anything, you were always lacking in something, you had been so busy most of the day that you never had time to clean anything leaving the house in a horrible state. Not that you thought this was much of a house.
Walking down the narrow hallway you opened the rickety door with a missing lock as you gave a brief smile to the small clump of bedsheets. Your sister was curled up and on her phone, eyes darting to the door with a hint of fear before she jumped up, “Y/n! You’re home earlier from night shift already!?”
You offered a smile as you set down your bag and nodded, sitting down on the mattress that laid on the floor as you replied, “Yeah, a coworker needed the extra hours so I let them cover for me tonight. Besides, you wanted to talk about college applications?” Your sister was under the impression your late night job was bartending at some hole in the wall downtown, where in all actuality you just went there to drink a few days and talk to the loud and sometimes obnoxious, but good hearted bartender who loved talking about his nerdy underaged friends that couldn’t do anything beside stay and drink soda.
It wasn’t that you didn’t think your sister would accept you, if she knew what you were actually doing. Fear, most times came in many different forms and this was one of them. You simply didn’t want to be judged, even by her. So nobody in your life truly knew who you were, and therefore, how could you hold the expectation for people to accept you into society if you were already self sabotaging yourself?
All philosophy aside, you were simply a lost soul, looking for your way in the cruel reality called life.
“Yes!” Nanami was chipper as always as she squealed, clapping her hands, “I…! I was thinking about applying to the university you attend! Maybe I'll get a grant and move into the dorms there? I already applied for several jobs, I’m just waiting on a callback!”
You offered a small smile as you hugged your knees to your chest, “I think you’d like it there, there’s lots to do around campus. But what will you go in for? The only advice I can offer is be sure it’s what you want to do.”
Nanami’s face faltered a little as she hummed, “Well...I thought maybe working with animals? I’d love to be an assistant surgeon in veterinarian? I know it’s a pretty...sad job but...I really like the idea of being able to heal such innocent things.” Your smile tugged into a gentle one at your sister. She was too tender for this world.
It had been your goal sense the day your mother died that you took care of your sister, it didn’t matter what happened to you. You could rot for all you cared at the end of the day, all you wanted was to look up and see your sister's smile and her happiness in life blossom. She more than anyone deserved it.
“I think you’ll be great at it.” You encouraged as you rested your chin on your hand, always happy to see her bounce in excitement as you yawned, your body was used to your demanding schedule but it was always more than happy to welcome a few extra hours of sleep.”
Hearing the door loudly slam close caused you both to jump, Nanami hurriedly crawled back in bed, pretending to be asleep as you frowned. Your dad must’ve come back home from wherever he was.
“Y/n! Just stay here! Can’t you talk to him later?” Nanami looked scared, she always did when he was around. But you weren’t about to stand down to the bastard any day of the week, you offered a weak smile as you replied.
“It’s fine Nami, I’ll be just a few minutes.” You replied, you knew that she knew, that was probably a lie. But you’d try your best, for her sake at least. But somebody had to put this guy in his place occasionally and it was always you. It results in a lot of screaming sometimes, other times he’d break down in tears or on a bad occasion you’d get shoved to the ground, a few times hit. Nothing major.
Walking out of the room you leaned against the wall of the entrance of the hallway watching your father stumble around in the living room, “Did you finally talk to the loan company?” You called out as you asked, not in a forgiving mood tonight. He had said he’d do this for two weeks in a row. The company that sank your whole family into the ground. The reason your mother couldn’t take it anymore and put a blade to her wrist.
Your father stood up, looking a little wobbly, obviously drunk, “Now listen here little girl I don’t have shit to own to you or anyone else.” You sighed as you tucked your tongue into your cheek, annoyance flowing inside you as you straightened up. You weren’t going to be bullied into being scared of this guy.
“Actually you do,” Your smile twisted into something more sharp, more bitter and sinister as you walked forward, “See, if you hadn’t of gotten involved in something shady like loan sharks we wouldn’t be drowning in debt and mom wouldn’t have killed herself because of you and both your daughters wouldn’t hate you. I know you drink away all our money in some pathetic attempt to escape from the cold reality that you fucked up your whole life and watched your family slip from your fingers while not even trying to do anything other then put us in further shit,” You closed your eyes as you tilted your head, “But the least you could do, is admit that. You owe us at least that for being a total fuck up.”
You opened your eyes to find pure rage brewing in your fathers eyes as you smiled once more, this time a false sense of sickly sweet tone to it as you shrugged, “Or you could live in denial, at this point, there really isn’t anything you can do to get anyone back ♡ ”
You had turned around, planning to tell Nanami that maybe she should go sleep over at a friends house today but you never got the chance, suddenly being slammed into the wall and flecks of spit hitting your face, “I am your fucking father! I deserve respect from you and your worthless sister! Do you know how much I provide for you both?”
Anger splintered through your veins as you grabbed onto his wrists, his fingers digging into your neck as you squirmed, “Like fucking what!? A shitty broken down apartment that your vacant from because you’re too fucking ashamed of yourself to even look at us sober!?”
Much like years in the past you weren’t surprised to hear Nanami cry as she rushed out of the room at the sound of you both screaming, “Stop!” She cried out, trying to break you both up, “Stop! Don’t fight! Why…! Why can’t we all just get along!” She sobbed only for your dad to shove her down making her curl up in defeat.
Alarm bells were triggered in your head at the sight of Nanami on the ground, she had never actually gotten hurt while in your sight and it was triggering something deep inside you as you watched him stalk up to her. Your hands shaking and rage boiling in your mind as you grabbed the closet thing you could find. An empty beer bottle on the table.
Your vision blurred and you don’t quite remember what happened other than glass shattering over his head and the brute force of you shoving something before blood was stained on your hands.
How did you end up sitting against the wall? Why was there….blood on your hands…? Your fingers trembled at the metallic sticky substance. All you could hear were Nanami’s sobs and cries as she frantically pushed herself away from the body slumped on the ground.
“You…! He…!” Nanami’s eyes brimmed with tears as you heard a loud boom making you jump, your eyes darting to the open window where….fireworks, big and bold crashed and crackled before you felt like you were sucked into a vortex making your whole vision black out.
Tumblr media
Your head felt fuzzy and there was ringing in your ears as you groaned, curling up into yourself as the darkness beckoned you closer before you forcibly opened your eyes. You were laying against the hardwood floor. Beams of light streaked through the window and you could see dust particles in the air against the shower of sunshine that streamed in.
...Wait...Light? The thought had perplexed your head enough to make you push up from the ground, memories pulling into your mind as your breath became shallow, suddenly looking to the side where...you slumped against the wall. It must’ve just been a bad dream….your eyes flickered to Nanami’s curled up figure...a really vivid dream…? Something wrenched in your gut as you rubbed your eyes. What happened? “Nami…!” You whispered, forcing your muscles to move despite their protest as she whined.
After another moment she reluctantly opened her eyes, flickering around before she suddenly scrambled up, taking a deep breath as if realizing what had happened before, looking towards where your dad once was she frowned, “...I...What…” She seemed just as perplexed as you and if her face was anything to go by, last night had obviously happened, “Is dad…” She looked at the absent place of the floor.
Leaning against the wall your eyes darted around the room, “I guess so…” You silently felt relief at knowing your dad was still very much alive as you leaned back as you closed your eyes, trying to remember what had happened before everything went dark...oh..! The fireworks...had it been a celebration last night? Your brows pinched together, something felt...off...getting up you opened the door to the apartment walking out.
“Y/n? Y/n! Hey! Where are you going!” Nanami called out, quickly chasing after you as you frowned, cars were parked odd and there was no one out on the street...as in...at all...Something was very wrong and you couldn’t figure out what.
“Wow...it..must be a slow day…” Nanami felt a sense of discomfort at the lack of life as you both walked down the side walk, it didn’t just feel like a slow day it felt, apocalyptic. As if humanity just left on it’s own leaving nothing but an empty city behind. Cars were parked on the curb and a few even left in the street.
“No, it’s like everyone vanished...This is really weird.” You wrapped your arms around yourself as you frowned, looking around as you came closer to where typically it would be a booming part of the downtown but it was empty, just as everything before.
“Well, maybe it’s a national holiday?” Nanami rubbed her head, trying to make sense of the situation just as much as you, surely everyone wasn’t...gone...right? She looked around as she bit her lip, second guessing herself at all the cars that were vacant, “Hey Y/n.”
You paused as you looked at your sister, curving an eyebrow as she offered a weak smile, “What if everyone got raptured away like they talk about in christanity?” Your expression flattened as she giggled, obviously getting a rise out of you as you crossed your arms.
Raptured? Where? To heaven? “Wouldn’t it be fire and brimstone then if that was the case?” Nanami pouted at your words as you shrugged, snickering yourself at her expression, the tables now turned as you sighed, “I don’t think there’s anyone left in Tokyo...I mean, it feels like...we’d have seen someone by now...right?”
“Well…” Nanami frowned once more, a little disturbed at your words as she spoke, “There’s no way everyone could be gone I mean, where would they go? And how could we miss something like that...Maybe the police found us and now we’re under some weird simulation.”
Chills spilled down your spine as you shoved her making her whine, “Don’t say that! That makes me feel all weird…! I didn’t…!” You cut yourself off, you didn’t what? Murder your own dad in cold blood...you looked down at your hands, they were free of any blood but it still felt like something like sin lingered. Like no matter where you went, it would always be stuck to you.
You didn’t like this, not one bit. Briefly you felt the urge to go hunt down your dad, he was a deadbeat but you would never...you’d never kill him....Right?
“Well…” Nanami hummed her eyes scanning ahead before they jumped to the mall that was up ahead, “Hey…! If nobody is here...maybe we could make use of it! Come on! Let's go!” You yelped at her grabbing your arm before dragging you ahead. Cars were all parked and yet not a single person exited through the mall's entrance. Something just felt off! You wrapped your arms around yourself as you warily looked around the empty mall, “Nanami I really don’t like this!” You looked around, concern bubbling inside you as she ran ahead into the store, digging through the section of clothes as she giggled.
“Relax! I doubt any of this is real and even so…! Who’s going to stop us!?” She shrugged as she bounced in excitement, “Oh my god! I had dreamed of something like this happening! Now we can do whatever we want! Go wherever we want! Y/n!” She gasped with a smile, “Now we don’t even have to worry about money!”
“We don’t even know if this is permanent.” You looked around warily, not partaking as she began plucking off the racks, “Regardless of what this is, I don’t like it. I want to go back home, our home. This just doesn’t…” You shook your head, “This just doesn’t feel right.”
“Well you can feel that way!” Nanami clacked her tongue as she gave a childish smile, “But I’m gonna go through this whole store and get a new wardrobe so feel free to sit on the bench and tell me what you think looks good!”
Looking away you sighed, unable to pinch the anxious feeling you had away as you sat down reluctantly as Nanami went into the changing room. Well...at least she was smiling and she was happy...With each outfit Nanami tried out and giggled, you giggled with her and maybe things weren’t so bad after all…
Tumblr media
“What a perfect day.” Nanami hugged you close as she sighed, yawning as you looked up at the sky in awe, you had seen a single star while living in Tokyo before, but now it was filled with constellations and millions of stars that stretched for miles. You could stare at it for days and days. The sun had just set a little over half an hour ago and you were ready to retire and find something to eat at the apartment.
You and Nanami had tried going to the food court but much to your dismay everything had been...rotten...soiled and ruined, meaning there was no point in trying to find anything there and you were getting really hungry despite devouring bags of chips you had both got at the convenient store, another thing that stood out to you was that there was no electricity...at all..
Looking back up to the sidewalk something caught your eyes...was that…! Light!? “Hey! Nanami look!” You shook her making her squeak as she looked up ahead, “It’s the hospital! They have electricity there which means there’s other people! Of course! Why didn’t we think to check essential areas!? Come on! Lets go! I wanna figure out what happened.”
“Alright! It sucks that this is already over but at least I can finally charge my phone, the battery is pretty low.” Nanami nodded in agreement as you both made your way up the road.
The walk wasn’t too far and you felt excitement fill you at the sight of the hospital all lit up as you walked into the entrance, a frown slowly setting on your lips once more as you walked past the receptionist desk and…! Oh there’s other people!
You felt relief wash over your as you ran up, there were at least seven other other people here at least! “Hey! Guys oh my god. I thought everyone was gone! What’s going on?” You asked, smiling bright in relief that you and Nanami weren’t the only ones left behind. Was this some kind of evac point or…?
Silence ensued and you slowly began to frown as you felt everyone stare at you as if you were insane, “Um…” You wrapped a hand around your arm, suddenly feeling as if everyone knew something you didn’t, “What’s going on…?” You furrowed your brows as you tilted your head, unsure of why everyone was looking at you like this.
Somebody looked like they were going to talk to you, a guy relatively around your age but a woman stopped him- his girlfriend maybe? “Stop, the less that know the better chance we have.” She said quietly though you still heard just enough. Fear twisted inside you as you took a cautious step back...The...the less you knew?
“Wow, you guys are assholes,” A girl suddenly whistled out, she was sitting in a waiting chair, a cowboy hat on her head paired with distressed jeans and...a bikini top? Strange but you’d roll with it if it meant getting answers. She stood up as she offered a smile, “Akari, nice to meet ya’. You folk must be new to the Borderlands huh?” She jutted her bottom lip a little as you frowned.
“Um I’m Y/n and this is my sister Nanami...?” You introduced yourself despite feeling confused as you raised a brow, “Borderlands…?” You echoed, what was that supposed to be? Other than Tokyo?
Akari gave a nod as she let out a brief chuckle, as if amused by your confusion but you sensed she had no real ill will unlike....your eyes checked to the couple that stood off in the corner on their own, “That’s what they call it here,” She nodded in affirmation as your eyes darted back to her in confusion, “To be frank with ya’, I don’t have a damn clue what's going on. Nobody does. But ever since you crossed the threshold there’s no going back, so I’ll be brief. We’re all considered outsiders here and we participate in games at venues such as this to extend our stay.”
Nanami and you looked at one another confused as Akari waved you over to the table in front of a TV, “Here, you’ll wanna put these on, it’s for the game.” She explained as you carefully picked up the metal bracelet, something about it felt ominous as you reluctantly put it on, jumping at the way it latched together and there was no getting it off now, “Word of advice, just don’t panic and you probably won’t die.”
“What?!” You screeched as Akari smacked your back, panic evident in your voice as you turned around to face her making her laugh again, this girl was insane! She had to be! “You’re…! You’re joking!”
Akari wrinkled her nose as she tilted her head, “Ah shit, I wish I was- Oh…! There’s the last player!” Just on que everyone turned to look at who had arrived, someone heaving breaths with their hands on their knees as if they had sprinted. You were mildly worried at why he seemed so scared but you had a feeling that was the least of your problems right now.
“Y/n what’s going on…?” Nanami frightened grabbed your arm as she hid a little behind you due to all these immensing strangers that looked like they were ready to feed you to the sharks, literally.
The guy walked past you both as he put on his bracelet, your eyes sharp as you watched it latch together automatically, your gaze jumping to everyone's wrists to notice you were all now wearing one. The TV suddenly lit up.
Game
You squinted your eyes a little at the sight of the screen, just what were you about to unwillingly participate in…?
Difficulty: 5♣
“The game you will be participating in is, Monster under the bed.”
A playing card? Monster under the bed? Your brows furrowed as you looked at Nanami who shrugged a little despite her concerned expression, looking just as confused as you. You could’ve made a joke out of this, surely it would’ve been easier. Maybe everyone would bust out laughing and you’d be at the end of a poor joke but...somehow you felt that wasn’t the case. Thus paying very close attention to whatever was on this screen,
“Everyone will be sectioned off into pairs by the number chosen on your bracelet, when the doors to the ward open you will have three rounds ten minutes each to figure out who is the monster under the bed that must be returned to its own, once the ten minutes is up you must hide before you are found. If the selected pair that is the monster is chosen correctly it’s a Game Clear.  If the monster is not found by the end of the third round or if the pair fails to hide it’s a Game Over.”
Rules:
Once the doors are open you and your partner must find a hiding spot by the time limit
Both partners must be hidden. If one is exposed to the monster it’s a Game Over for both partners
There will be an X marked on the ground to place the monster of your guess onto.
You will have three rounds of ten minutes each to find the monster.
Any attempt to remove bracelets results in a Game Over
If the monster is not found by the third round a Game Over.
The only Game Clear condition required is for the monster to be returned by the third round.
What…
What!?
“Now the game will commence, you have five minutes to figure out who you have been paired up with before the doors open.”
Your mind was blanking as you watched everyone look down at their bracelet, hurriedly you lifted your arm as your mind blanked 2 looking back at Nanami her lips were already quivering as she sniffled lifting her arm in defeat as your lips dropped open, 5.
“Hey! Guess you’re my partner!” Akari grinned as she wrapped an arm around Nanami who sniffled, “Oh…” She looked between you both, “Oh! Oh don’t worry! We’re not the monster so I’ll make sure your sister lives! You should go find your partner.”
Your hands trembled unsure of what to do before you went to hug Nanami, “Whatever happens just stay calm okay! I need to go find my partner now!” You whispered, kissing her cheek as she sniffled while nodding.
Everybody was shuffling around looking for their partner now, you passed by a few people, 4, 1, 3...did you even have a partner…? You scanned around, your throat tightening a little in panic, there had to be a mistake! There were only 8 people surrounding you- you yelped at the tight grip that suddenly held your arm forcing you to turn around to be met with a white hooded figure, a lollipop handle hanging and earbuds in before sighing, “So it appears I’m stuck with someone useless.” The man concluded as he stood up making you back away a little as your lips parted somewhat indignantly.
How...how rude! You looked up, unable to fully make out his face but you could tell you didn’t like him one bit, “I’ll…! First of all I’m not useless! I’m just trying to understand what's going on! This is insane! We aren’t actually going to die from this, are we!?” Pushing his hood down you were immediately met with a snide gaze and cat eyes that leered at you like you were nothing more then dirt beneath his feet, long blonde hair pushed behind his shoulders and his bangs hanging low, suddenly a viscous side smile appeared on his lips, “Apparently so, otherwise I wouldn’t have watched half my last game get their brains blown out and the other half hung.”
You reeled a little away from the blonde, your face dropped in semi horror, unsure if this was just a sick joke or he was serious. You searched his face a thousand times over, but for the first time in your life, you couldn’t figure out what his goal was. You couldn’t figure out anything about him, except he was exceptionally cold, “Well I don’t suppose I have much choice to doubt you,” He said with an annoying sing song tone as he rattled his wrist that showed the bracelet with a matching 2 on it, “My name is Chishiya, just stay out of my way and we’ll both live.”
How arrogant! You scoffed as he walked past you, not the least bit bothered at your offense as you whipped around, glaring at his back. How come out of everyone you got stuck with the most…! Pompous! Arrogant! Ugh! You crossed your arms as you followed behind him, stilling secretly sending daggers into his back with your eyes as everyone shuffled into the ward.
Hospital beds were scattered around the room, a few closets and one large vent at the bottom right corner of the room ahead.
“Wait, what is this?” The first person to speak was a fair thin older gentleman, he appeared friendly as he observed the room around him, everyone looked around in confusion as you noticed what he meant.
Any possible hiding spot was covered by either sheets of metal or locked tight...How were any of you supposed to hide if…!? The rules mentioned nothing about solving puzzles to gain access to a hiding spot!
“Forget that,” Another man said with a sneer he was broad and a bit older, well into his late twenties at least, perhaps a gym coach? Or maybe a wrestler of some sort? He looked like he could break you and nearly every other person in this room like a twig, “We need to figure out who’s the monster. “ He cracked his knuckles as you leered a little away and nobody spoke for a second.
Of course, who would out themselves as the monster, more importantly, how does one even know they’re the monster? You could immediately feel tension rise as the previous, more patient man spoke, a little more collected, “How about we just check one another's’ watches! If anywhere it would show us on that! One pair should work on solving these puzzles here so everyone has a place to hide”
“Unless the monster is among us and it sabotages us so we all die by the time limit.” The girlfriend crossed her arms as she darted her eyes around. Truthfully you didn’t know what to believe, the wording on the soundbox was rather confusing as to just what were you looking for. Was the monster supposed to be in the group or it’s own entity?
“If that were the case it would’ve showed up on our watches, which it didn’t. So that won’t work.” Chishiya spoke matter of fact, his tone cool as his eyes gazed across the room before he walked away from the group inspecting various hiding spots granted you didn’t think he was about to help anyone but himself, if anything you were at least lucky that him securing a hiding spot meant it was one for you as well.
You looked at everyone in confusion, some arguing while others scattered to look for a hiding spot as the clock ticked down. You breathed in relief at the sight of Nanami and Akari both going for a bed to hide under. Your gaze finally found Chishiya’s form before following him, unsure of what you were supposed to do, if anything outside trying to figure out just what the monster even was.
You glanced up at the digital clock that stood above the entrance you had just come in from, it was already a minute in before you searched the floor where you found a red X in the center of the room, that must’ve been the...what? Offering spot? You cringed a little at the idea. Looking forward you peered behind Chishiya’s shoulder deciding to not think about that, it seemed the metal sheet that had wrapped around the bed and was sealed to the ground was locked by some sort of metal device…? Contraption? Lock?
“Isn’t hiding under a bed a bit obvious…?” You frowned as you crossed your arms, unsure as you looked behind your shoulder once more to where accusations were already being thrown in the group.
“The vent is a decoy to make you waste time, I already checked,” Chishiya replied, his fingers nimble as they rattled the metal, “And even if someone were to accomplish it in the time limit it’s the most obvious spot the monster would first check. Next would be the closet given it’s at eye level and the first thing one is drawn too when they walk into a room.”
Your lips parted a little in surprise at his assessment...obviously he wasn’t just overconfident, “And why this spot?” If he had really thought about all this in less than a minute then...did he have a reason for this spot? You now found yourself, slightly less annoyed and a little more curious as to what was going on in his mind.
“If the monster were to check a bed it would be after his eyes are drawn to the closet. Next in that line of sight would be the vent directly across it, which would be his next place to look if not his first and vice versa. The beds are all staggered throughout the room making them less conspicuous compared to the other hiding places, the bed on the far end of the room would be no good.”
Your brows furrowed in curiosity at his assessment as you watched Chishiya blow a piece of hair from his face, wiggling out one piece of the knotted metal, “It’s too far from the entrance where as the one in the middle is by average the one most people would start with, where as the first? It’s almost too soon in the start to look there thus making it the safest.”
“It’s them! They’re over there conspiring!” You both twisted around to watch the broad man point an accusing finger at you both as your eyes darted from him to the clock on the wall, which read at six minutes. A few other pairs, relievingly so was your sister had started working on a hiding spot while a few others stood around and argued.
Your face coiled a little as you replied, not appreciating the accusation to such a baseless accusation, did they not realize the longer they argued the less time they had to secure a hiding spot? “Someone who’s terrible at playing the minority would often be the first to point fingers. There’s only six minutes left before the first round is over and we need to hide. But if you want to talk about this then sure,”
You stepped closer as you crossed your arms, scanning over him before continuing, “Let’s talk about the chances of you being the monster, ever since you first came in you’ve been all twitchy and acting like something is wrong. Even when we first got paired up, you seemed a little panicked. Anyways,” You turned around as you spoke, “How do we know one pair is a monster and not one single person?”
“Eh,” Akari sat on the bed that her and Nanami chose as Nanami fumbled to work out the puzzle, she had always been good at those! You felt assured as your heart beat frantically at the idea of them not being able to get a hiding spot in time, “Let’s all calm down,” She gave an awkward laugh, “This isn’t a hearts game, we shouldn’t divide our trust. This is a team building after all which means this game should be making us work together, the last thing we need to do is throw that away on our own accord.”
“...Team building?” You frowned as you murmured having not been aware that this was some sort of game category...Hearts? Clubs? The memory of the playing card flashing on the screen appeared in your mind again, right...was that to stand for some kind of game genre? If Clubs stood for team building then...there should be no reason that the monster is any of you. Why would they even suggest that to begin with?
Then...what was the monster?
“One minute remaining.”
The lights suddenly began flickering, “Got it.” Chishiya yanked the last piece of metal undone as he pulled the sheet of metal off, everyone was now scrambling and the few who had not done their puzzle were now panicking. Getting down you crawled under the bed, your back flat to the ground as you inhaled sharply as you noticed the lights beginning to dim, “This is...uncomfortable.” You mumbled, trying to ignore being pressed shoulder to shoulder with a man you didn’t even know besides him having a god complex, “We should’ve went with the vent.”
“By all means, if you want to try and get yourself killed already. Go for it.” You turned to look at him, dark endless cat eyes meeting you as you harshly glared at him, why was he so condescending!?
You were about to snap back something before you realized it was completely dark and the door slammed open causing you to jump. Was your heart always this loud? You could see the heavy boots step against the ground making you unsteadily inhale, swallowing as you closed your eyes. You could only place your trust that Chishiya hadn’t picked a horrible spot.
More importantly your mind was plagued with worry for your sister, you had been so caught up you hadn’t even tried to help her yet...did she even…! You heard a sudden loud scream from two people causing you to stiffen as you looked up at the bed frame lined with wooden planks. You could only cower back down at blood suddenly painting the floor.
Your stomach suddenly churned as you covered your mouth. So he wasn’t lying. Chishiya however looked just as nonpulsed as he did when he first told you himself, his eyes blankly staring up at the bed frame as if this was just a regular game of hide and seek as people screamed as they were torn apart.
Or that’s at least what you assumed it was.
After an agonizing few minutes the doors finally closed and the lights flickered back on making you breath in relief as you waited a moment, could you even bear to face what was waiting on the floor? You winced a little before something caught your eye. What was with all this extra wood stuck in the frame?
Chishiya had already gotten out from under the bed and before you suddenly heard a few girls scream, your sister among them making you puff and breath as you scrambled from beneath the bed.
Standing up your mouth agape at the horrid sight of the female and the broad male that had been too focused on accusing others, they didn’t have...enough time...it looked like they had been completely mutilated, blood pouring on the floor and the smell made you want to gag as you looked away.
“Well, now what do we do.” Akari scratched her head, also not looking phased that two people had just been brutally killed. Your eyes stayed placed on the bodies before they slowly trailed to your hands, the memory of blood staining them still fresh in your mind.
“Well we have to figure out where the monster is?” The girlfriend of the couple spoke up, she looked around somewhat suspiciously, “But I’m not sure where we could find it? Maybe it has to do with the bracelets? Maybe there’s a clue hidden.”
“Oh what about in the cabinets?” The collected man from before offered as he went to search the cabinets, your frown furthered as you glanced around. Everyone was now getting along, still on edge but along at least.
Chishiya only leaned against the wall, his hands in his pocket as he rolled the lollipop in his mouth, his gaze the same steely one it was before as if he had done his job in securing his temporary salvation and was now done.
Or maybe he just didn’t know what to do? It was obvious his strength didn’t lie in teamwork, clearly. But then again, you weren’t sure what was going on, you couldn’t get a read on him. Crossing your arms you stayed beside him, your eyes briefly washing over your sister who was working Akari to dig through a desk together.
“Cabinets and drawers are too obvious.”
Chishiya’s eyes flickered to your figure, his expression just as cold if not...a little smug maybe? He said nothing in return as you continued, “If we’re looking for a monster, it’s obvious it’s a metaphor for something. Inanimate most likely,” Your eyes flickered around the room, inhaling sharply, why did it feel like the answer was right in front of you?
Think…! You glanced at the clock, only six minutes left. The rounds were really short…! “It’d be something small and inconspicuous, something that’s in plain sight….but easy to miss...and the game said it was a pair which means there’s more than likely two.”
“Three,” You glanced at Chishiya as he spoke, pulling the lollipop from his mouth, that permanent smug look on his face as he answered, “Two is what they want you to think and if you spend a round searching for each like they hope it’s game over by three.”
You rubbed your neck as you frowned, “It’s already the second round and we haven’t even found one…” You glanced around before you suddenly perked up, “Wait…!” Getting back down on the floor you laid on your back as you pushed yourself under the bed, “Chishiya! Help me get this thing out!”
Within a moment the blonde appeared as well, his eye sharp and keen as they noticed straight away what you were tugging at, “You think this is the monster?”
You looked at him as you raised a brow, “We have less than four minutes left on our second round, you have a better idea?” Chishiya said no more but helped regardless, successfully with the both of you maneuvering it around from beneath the wooden boards you managed to get it out.
Holding it up you looked at it, “It’s a poppet doll.” You turned to face him as you smiled in accomplishment, “They’re typically used as curses to place upon people in folklore. If anything is a monster, this would be it.”
Excited at your first victory you pulled out from beneath the bed as you waved it up, “Hey guys! We need to start looking for something similar to this! If not a replica.” Everyone huddled around you examining the doll before the microphone sounded, “One minute remaining.”
Everyone had immediately scrambled back to their hiding place as you ran to the red X, placing the poppet on it, that's the reason that had to be there right!? You’d just have to see, hurriedly you ran back to your spot under the bed. Making it just in time as the lights flickered off.
The door slamming open once more as you slowly inhaled, it had to work right? If not...then you were at a loss for what to search for and you were utterly screwed.
The boots stomped against the floor past the bed as you closed your eyes, unable to calm yourself. After a moment you heard a screech and something rip open before screams followed making you jump. Chishiya’s eyes were on the feet that stood by the closet that had been obviously ripped open.
You heard the sound of something wet and a gurgle before a body slumped to the floor and you could hear begging before something got snapped in half causing you to close your eyes once more...Did you make it angry!? Was that not it? Fuck. You had never felt this stressed before as it roamed around, passing in front of your bed as you tensed.
Was this your last moment alive? Truly?
Much to your relief, the door closed once more before the lights followed, flickering on, relaxing a little you sighed as you reluctantly got out from underneath the bed with Chishiya to see what had happened. Much to your horror it was the man who had been so kind this whole game and his partner.
The monster didn’t check anywhere in the first round, yet he did this round? You tried to block out the bodies slumped in the corner as you glanced at the red X, the poppet doll gone.
“Why- why were they killed!” Nanami’s eyes began to water as she grabbed her head, “This makes no sense!”
“If it accepts the doll that means we only need two more. What happened to them is irrelevant.” Chishiya stuffed his hands back into his pocket as you glared at him sideways, not appreciating his careless tone. You could deal with it, but you didn’t want your sister dragged into it.
Grabbing your chin you thought about it for a moment, “Well...the game said to return the monster to its own and…” You glance down at the X, was there some kind of unsaid rule that if you didn’t get all three of them on the first try that it would start hunting down players? “How would a mother feel if they only returned one of its children?”
“This thing doesn’t have feelings,” The girlfriend of the partners replied coldly, her eyes like steel of her own as she clung to her boyfriend, “It’s as he said,” She waved to Chishiya, “It doesn’t matter, we’ll be like them if we don’t figure this out.”
You glanced around the room, “Tell me this, if it doesn’t matter, then why did they give us all these different hiding spots?” Everyone was silent, all eyes on you as if your question didn’t make any sense, your eyes flickered to the clock that was nearing eight minutes, you didn’t have time to monologue, “No think about it. The monster never intended to look for us- that was never stated in the rules. So why did they give us all of these choices if we only needed one per pair? My point being, if we found one poppet in our hiding spot then...You get where I’m going with this? Chishiya.”
He glanced up at you acknowledgement as you curved a brow, your lips threatening to tug into a smile as you tilted your head, “How confident are you in solving that vent?”
He glanced back down and for the first time, you watch a cocky wide smirk twist onto his lips, “You’re lucky to have someone as smart as me here to be able to open it.” You tucked your tongue into your cheek as in annoyance as he sauntered over to the vent already getting to work, “As for everyone else, we need to open up as many of these as possible to find the other two.”
Everyone immediately scrambled to get to work, with only seven minutes on the clock this was...going to be difficult. First Nanami and Akari searched all the opened spots as you worked on another bed. Rubbing your head as muttered, “Shit...I never was good with puzzles.” You awkwardly hung your head in defeat temporarily, briefly letting your eyes shift to Chishiya who was fiddling with several locks, his gaze sharp and you couldn’t even imagine all the calculations going on in his mind. You were somewhat envious of what it would be like to be that perceptive to anything adhering to logic and solution.
“Aha! Found one!” Akari yanked the poppet from the top of the closest as Nanami covered her mouth, looking like she was gonna throw up being so close to so many dead bodies. You ignored the grisly sight at the second victory of the poppet doll. Akari quickly placed it on the X as you began to work on the puzzle once more, looking up at the clock. Oh no...Oh no there was only three minutes left!
“Chishiya! Hows that puzzle coming along.” You called out, trying not to sound alarmed but you could see the clear cut annoyance on his face as he continued working through the locks, “If you’d like to help while struggling on a novice lock feel free.” He replied condescendingly, not appreciating the pressure.
You rolled your eyes with huff as you finally managed to get it undone, feeling triumphant as you searched under the bed but there was no luck, “There’s nothing here!”
“Or here!”
Several people called out as well as you rubbed your head, standing up, “If the only other place that hasn’t been searched is the vent then maybe there’s only two? It did say a pair.” You felt a lump of anxiety well in your chest at the sight of the clock ticking close to a minute and half.
“Should we really take the risk?” The boyfriend asked as he rubbed his neck, concern on his face as he looked around, “If we’re wrong then we’ll all…”
You hadn’t even thought of that…
“...! Hey.” You turned to Chishiya who seemed to be trying to get your attention making you immediately come over, if he was asking for you it’d have to be for something important given there was nearly less then two minute on the clock, “Hold this right here.” He immediately pushed your hand onto the lock right where he wanted it, “This is a two handle mechanism meaning that there needs to be two people unlocking it. Push down and out at the same time.”
“Hide! Everyone needs to hide now!”
The lights were beginning to flicker as everyone scrambled to hide, stress evidently put on your shoulders now more than ever. You could only hope he was right with your life on the line, “Now!” You pushed down on your side, the lock sliding as you pulled out, pulling a piece of metal holding up the lock directly out as Chishiya did the same with his side.
The lock fell off as well as the metal of the gate of the vent, you immediately with no hesitation leaned inside it was dark and hard to make it out anything besides the steep drop off. So he was right, this was a waste of time for a hiding place.
Looking down you caught sight of wood before laughing in relief, “It’s here! Wait shit! Chishiya! It’s too far down in the vent, you’re gonna have to lower me down to reach it. Time?”
“Forty five seconds.” You felt unfamiliar hands on your hips lifting you up as you were lowered down, “We have time.”
You squinted trying to see as you reached down, “Lower me further! I’m not quite in reach,” Your muscles began to ache in your shoulder as you reached harder, growling in frustration, “Time!?” You were lowered a little further, the wooden poppet brushing against your fingers.
“Thirty seconds! Could you go a little faster?”
“Could you lower me a little quicker- Ah! Hey did you almost let go!?” You snarled back, grabbing the poppet doll, giving a good yank as it lodged in between the crevice it was in, “Get me back up! I got it. Time!”
“Twenty seconds.” Chishiya called back, pulling you up as you gasped, pain from the metal jabbing into your stomach evident as you were met with a darkening room. Setting your feet firmly on the floor your eyes flew to the flock fifteen seconds and your spot was all the way across the room….!
“Where are we supposed to hide!? We can’t get all the way there in time!” You hissed out running to the X as you dropped the poppet down. The lights shut off as the final five seconds counted down and before you could do anything you were shoved to the floor as you squeaked. Your body throbbing in pain and your mouth immediately covered as you were met with the coverage of a bed but neither one of you were bold enough to try and scramble beneath it as the doors slammed open.
Fuck.
Your whole body was tense as your eyes squeezed shut, you were just a little ahead of the X here, if this is all the poppet dolls...they’d have no reason to go further into the room...unless...Your hand squeezed tight around the wrist of the hand that covered your mouth as you tried to calm yourself at the loud thudded footsteps.
It was quiet for a moment before you heard more walking before the doors closed.
“Game Cleared”
The lights turned on as you fell limp against the side of the bed, Chishiya’s hand removed from mouth as you pushed your hair from your face, closing your eyes as you breathed in relief, “Holy shit.” Was all you could mutter to yourself, you had never been more grateful to breathe air in your whole life.
“I guess you weren’t that useless after all huh.” Chishiya clacked his tongue as you turned your head to look at him, raising your brows as your face contorted into something between insult and amusement.
You’ve only known this man for a half an hour and yet...something about his words, if you dug down deep past that smug expression of his, was this a compliment? Looking away you pressed your tongue into your cheek, trying to keep from smiling, “Yeah, and you’re still conceited and arrogant but, I guess you have a good reason to be.” You glanced back at him again but you could hardly hold his gaze, something in that brief moment was electrified between you both as you laughed somewhat sheepishly, closing your eyes as you looked away once more.
What the fuck was even wrong with you? If this was back before today you would’ve totally kicked this guy in the balls and went about your day.
“Y/n!” You straightened up at the sound of Nanami’s voice, your expression brightening as you stood up, quickly running to her as you hugged her tight, “I can’t believe that just happened…” She whispered to you as she pressed her face into your neck. You couldn’t either but, you were thankful you had survived this game. Whatever it was.
“Come on, let's get out of this room.” You tugged on her arm, no longer wanting to be in this death room despite knowing it was all over. Pulling her out you paused at the sight of the TV and a...register…? You bracelet unlocked as you took it off, tossing it on the table as you tilted your head.
“Congratulations Game ''Clear ``.''
“...Now issuing visas to those who survived the game…?” You furrowed your brows as you glanced at Nanami who rubbed her head in confusion. You grabbed the receipt as you looked it over with a frown before picking up the 5 of clubs playing card along with it. Odd.
“It’s how many days you’re allowed to stay now! Almost a whole week, that's a good score for a first game!” Akari called out as she patted your back making you jump a little.
Almost a whole week…”Until we have to play again to...continue our stay?” You raised a brow, deciding not to ask what happens if you refused. While you had many questions, you had a feeling you knew the answer to that one.
A part of you couldn’t even believe this had happened, or was it all still a dream.
“Hey…! Sorry for all of that in there,” You turned to see...oh…! It was the boyfriend of the partner, the gifrlfriend stayed behind looking brooding, “I’m Ryu and that’s my girlfriend Hiroko I was...ah…” He faltered a little, rubbing the back of his neck as his gaze flittered to his girlfriend who was glaring him down, “You should stop by the Beach- I...I think you guys would make good additions! Bye!” He hurried not even finishing his original sentence before scurrying off making you furrow your brows at what he even meant.
“The hell?” Akari raised a brow as she watched the guy run off, “Seems to me he wanted to chat more…guess we know who's really pulling balls in that relationship.”
Nanami suddenly snickered, covering her mouth as she giggled, “Hey Akari! Why don’t we stay together! We did really well in the game together!”
“Awh shit, if you guys really want me too!” Akari offered a quirky smile as you laughed, you had no problems with someone staying behind with you. Looking past Akari your smile faded a little at the sight of a white hoodie exiting the entrance.
“Hey- I’ll be right back!” You pushed past the both of them who paid you no mind as you pushed out of the exit and down the stone steps, not sure why your feet were making you chase after such an egotistical man but…!
“Chishiya!” You called out, making the man pause, he turned around, pulling the earbuds out as he glanced up from his hoodie, raising his brows in acknowledgement, “Um…” Why did you even chase after him…? You stepped down the last step as you wrapped your arms around yourself.
It was silent for a moment as you berated yourself internally for why you seemed so speechless all of a sudden. Chishiya however didn’t seem to mind, his eyes absent now as he stared up at the hospital, “I used to do my clinical rotations here.”
You were broken out of your silent thrashing of internal humiliation as you raised your brows, lips parting in curiosity as you asked, “You were a doctor?”
“No,” Chishiya snorted, that amused calico look of his on his face once more as he looked down at you, “I was a medical student. Training to be a doctor but that obviously didn’t happen…” His lips curved into a frown, his eyes cold once more as they looked back up at the building, “I came here tonight to see if anyone I knew would be here.”
“Oh…” You looked away, feeling somewhat awkward and unsure of how to reply to him as silence took over once more beside the occasional rustling of the wind in the tree’s, the urge to speak overtaking you to the point you couldn't resist, “Chishiya...I…” You looked away, feeling somewhat bashful, “We...made a really good team back there.” You forced yourself to look up at him as you offered a bright yet subtly shy smile, “If you want...you could stay with us…?”
Chishiya pulled the lollipop stick from his mouth, letting it drop to the ground as he spoke, “No thanks.” You turned to him in surprise as you frowned a little, you shouldn’t have expected anything less…
“Oh...I understand.” You offered a weak smile as he turned his back on you and began to walk once more, “I just have one more question,” You called out causing him to pause, “...Do you by any chance know about a place called the Beach?”

This is my contribution to @geekandbooknerd 2k followers challenge! Congrats again, my dear!

Couple notes for this fic- Bjorn & Torvi are still together because reasons. Italics mean speakers are using Old Norse.
The title means ‘White Gown, New Life’ in Old Norse.
Also, this is my first time writing Ubbe so.... hopefully its not OOC?
Words: 4800
Warnings: one or two swear words. implied sex. I think that’s it???

"You cannot truly be considering this!" Bjorn thundered in the small, enclosed room.
Ubbe observed his elder brother- a man he had aspired to be like his whole childhood, a man he still looked up too, regardless of his faults. "Of course I am."
Bjorn slammed his hand on the wooden table, making it shake, as his voice shook like thunder in the room. "You are throwing your future away!"
"I am protecting our future!" Ubbe snapped, finally rising to his feet, irritation leaking into his tone. He met Bjorn's incensed blue eyes with his own resolute gaze. "We need allies, alliances, everything to make father's dream come true. If this is the price I must pay to fulfill Ragnar's dream, then I will gladly do it. It is not about me. It's for our people."
After a long, tense moment, Lagertha pushed off the wall she and Torvi were leaning against. Gliding closer, she moved to stand in front of Ubbe, tears swimming in her eyes. Gently, she cupped his cheeks. "Your father would be so proud of you, Ubbe. I pray the gods bless you with happiness in this."
"Thank you, Lagertha." Relief swelled in Ubbe's chest. If he had Lagertha's support, he knew Bjorn would come around.
Since they fled Kattegat and came to England, he had watched the shieldmaiden age before his eyes. He could not help but wonder if her soul yearned for Valhalla and to be reunited with Ragnar. Not that he could blame her. To hear her speak of Ragnar and his approval of Ubbe's actions, it only further solidified his choice.
Torvi spoke up, surprising him.  "I think Ubbe should do it." When Bjorn opened his mouth to interject, she snapped her gaze over to her husband. "This is his decision, Ubbe. He has asked for our advice but it is up to him. We need security and this, though we don't trust them, this can provide that security."
Bjorn huffed, crossing his arms over his chest. "Fine! Do what you want!"
"Thank you." Ubbe softly said, looking at all the family he had left in this world. "I'll go inform King Alfred now."
With a firm stride, he left the quarters they had been given in Wessex. After some time trying to locate the young king, a passing servant was able to tell him Alfred's location. Thankfully the king was in his private study, reviewing petitions from the worker's guild. The guards at the door allowed Ubbe entrance only after the king called out to allow him entrance. With a look of unrestrained animosity, almost begging him to give them a reason to throw him out, the guards opened the door for him to pass. Ubbe nodded his thanks, but never removed his hand from the sword at his side until the door closed behind him.
Straightening in his chair, Alfred looked up from the papers spread out over his desk. "Good afternoon, Ubbe. I suspect you have sought me out because you have an answer for my proposition."
"I do, your highness." Ubbe paused, knowing how his life was going to irrevocably change once he answered. "And I will accept. I will take a Saxon wife to further the alliance between us."
"I am greatly pleased by your decision." The dark-haired man pushed away from his desk. He moved to a nearby table to pour them both a cup of wine, something these Saxons seemed to favor, as he continued speaking. "Alliances must be built on trust and understanding. A political marriage certainly helps solidify that trust."
Ubbe received the cup, missing the taste of ale from his homeland. After taking a small sip, he stared at Alfred. "So what do we do now? Do I meet some potentials or is there a matchmaker?"
"No, I already have someone picked out for you. My cousin." Alfred answered without hesitation before pausing in contemplation. "What your father and my grandfather would think of this arrangement….our families tied by blood."
 "Yeah…. What is her name?"
"My cousin? Lady Y/N. Fear not, she comes from a well-respected family and with a substantial dowry. She has spent most of her life at a nunnery, so there is no fear of her virtue being tainted."
"Great." Ubbe sighed out. Though he knew Alfred meant all that to be reassuring….it felt anything but.
 *****
It was not until almost a month later, Ubbe met his intended bride; with the wedding set for three days after her arrival. Apparently King Alfred and some of the Saxon noblemen were keen on the arranged marriage happening as soon as possible.
Ubbe stood off to the side in the throne room. With his hair freshly braided and pulled back and wearing one of his nicer tunics, he hoped he appeared princely. Even if by Saxon standards, he knew he fell woefully short. Lagertha had given him a nod of approval as they waited in the throne room. Though outwardly he kept his face passive and calm, his insides twisted into knots and his hands were clammy.
"Are you still certain about this, brother?" Bjorn clapped Ubbe on the shoulder as he whispered, eyeing the Saxons standing around.
The flaxen-haired Viking glanced over at King Alfred, who sat on his throne, talking in hushed tones to one of his advisors while his mother looked on with a sour expression.
Ubbe answered solemnly. "Aye, we need this alliance."
With a grunt, Bjorn removed his hand but stayed at his brother's side. Something Ubbe appreciated. Although Bjorn had no issue airing his thoughts on this foolish alliance and how Ubbe was making a mistake in regards to choosing a wife again, he kept his complaints behind closed doors. In front of the Saxons, they presented an united front.
The large doors to the throne room opened with a groan. All eyes turned to witness as a sole figure cautiously yet gracefully walked forward, head held high and hands clasped in front of her.
"Cousin!" King Alfred exclaimed, rising from his throne, arms spread wide. Immediately, he descended the few stairs with a fond smile on his face. "Your presence has been missed here at court."
The woman dipped into an elegant curtsey, her dress gliding around her like water. "You are far too kind, my king."
As King Alfred embraced his cousin in a warm hug, Ubbe could only stare in shock. Standing there in a deep red gown, the woman looked like a goddess. Ubbe had prepared himself mentally for his intended bride to be marginally pretty like most of these Saxon women, but someone he easily overlooked. Not her though. Without even saying a word to him, he felt beguiled by her. It was more than just her physical beauty, it was in the way she carried herself, with grace and a nobility. It reminded him distantly of his mother. A woman who knew her place and dignity. This woman, his intended bride, was truly stunning. He could not help but wonder if the true reason for her prolonged residence at a nunnery was not because of piety but to preserve and protect her. Something he was suddenly immensely grateful for.
"This is your betrothed." Alfred walked her over to where the Vikings stood, at the bottom of the steps leading to his throne. With a pleased smile on his face, he introduced the two. "Ubbe, son of Ragnar Lothbrok, this is my cousin, Lady Y/N."
She curtsied to him, her movements so graceful like they were part of a dance. When she spoke, he was further enchanted, for even her voice was beautiful. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Lord Ubbe."
"It's just Ubbe. Since we are to be married, we can skip the formalities."
A coy smile played on her lips. "As you wish….Ubbe."
"Excellent." King Alfred beamed. "Perhaps a walk in the gardens to better acquaint yourselves would be desirable?"
Before Ubbe could whole-heartedly agree, wishing to learn more about his intended bride, a sickly-sweet voice interrupted.
"Y/N has only just arrived. We have wedding plans to finalize and she must try on her dress." Princess Judith interrupted, wrapping an arm through her niece's while pointedly ignoring the Vikings. "Maybe another time, but I am sure y/n will be quite busy with preparations. Come, my dear."
With that, she swept her niece out of the throne room as if the Vikings had the plague and she refused to breathe the same air as them. But before y/n disappeared, she peeked over her shoulder and met Ubbe's gaze with a tender smile teasing her lips, then disappeared from view.
"There is much to finalize and my mother wants to ensure the wedding will go smoothly. You and y/n will have time after the wedding to become acquainted." Alfred said, studying the direction his mother and cousin vanished. With a sigh, he pulled his gaze back to Ubbe. "Now that introductions are made, I have matters with the clergy to attend to."
Ubbe barely paid attention when Alfred walked away, returning to his throne and listening to some priests whine about something petty.
A bump of a shoulder against his own drew Ubbe's attention back from thinking about y/n.
Bjorn leaned over to whisper conspiracingly in his ear. "Well, at least you won't have a problem bedding her."
 *****
The wedding ceremony was outlandish and dragged on for entirely too long. Between the many prayers of the priests and the rigid formality of everything, Ubbe was ready to draw his sword and spill some Christian blood, just to break up the monotony. Even Lagertha appeared ready to fall asleep from where she stood.
The only aspect that kept his attention was his bride. Watching her walk down the aisle, he almost swallowed his tongue, leaving him gaping at her in a slack-jawed awe as she slowly approached. In her flowing wedding dress, a crown of flowers in her hair and eyes alight, she appeared ethereal. Standing in his nicest tunic and pants, he knew he paled in comparison to her, but he did not mind.
When the priests tried to forcefully convince Ubbe to dress in Saxon clothing for the wedding, he not-so-subtly threatened to decapitate them if they mentioned it once more. He was a Viking and would dress as such. Besides this was to be a physical representation of an alliance between Saxon and Viking, it would make no sense for him to dress as a Saxon.
Thankfully Alfred agreed with his thoughts, so the clergy kept any further comments to themselves.
Once the wedding concluded with Ubbe and y/n proclaimed man and wife, the couple was escorted to the celebration. The following feast was beyond lavish, with drink and food in overflowing abundance. To his dismay, Ubbe found himself unable to converse with his new bride. Either Alfred was introducing him to someone new, some nobleman pestered him with questions or worst of all, Judith purposefully continued to make excuses that pulled y/n away. When their eyes met, he could see the apology in them, which lightened the stone in his heart.
As the feast progressed, Ubbe found as more time passed, the more his gaze drifted to his bride. The gods had truly blessed him with this marriage. Watching her, he was captivated. Although, he found his hand frequently shifting to reach for the hilt of his sword no longer strapped to his side. All the appreciative or lustful looks she received from other men did not go unnoticed, and if one of them tried to lay a hand on his new wife, he would not be held accountable for his actions. His fists could be just as deadly as any weapon.
Finally, the time was called for the bedding ceremony.
Alfred and some of the clergy explained to Ubbe what happened during a bedding ceremony when he was learning about the wedding's customs and the vows he would have to recite. To say the Ragnarsson was shocked was an understatement. It sounded barbaric…. and him and his people were called the heathens. But he understood the need to maintain protocol for building the alliance and the trust of the Saxons.
So that was how he found himself walking down a corridor with Bjorn at his side, while the feast and celebrations continued on without him.
 "Are you sure about this?"
Ubbe rolled his eyes at his elder brother, his stride never faltering. "You did not have to agree to it."
Bjorn scoffed, keeping pace. "And miss out on all the fun?"
The two brothers laughed, the sound loosening some of the tension in the bridegroom's body. When Alfred told Ubbe he needed a witness to represent his people at the bedding ceremony, Bjorn was the only option. When Ubbe initially told his brother about the tradition and asked for Bjorn's presence, the hulking Viking had doubled-over in laughter, followed by making several crude comments about the need to instruct Ubbe on how to properly bed a woman. The discussion ended in a brotherly tussel but Bjorn agreed.
Especially when Ubbe explained his plan.
The bedroom was in the wing of the royal families' rooms. Since y/n was related by blood, she was given a room there whenever she came to visit and naturally, this meant it was where the marriage would be consummated. Several candles were lit but the bedroom was kept dim to give an illusion of privacy. A quick glance at the bed made Ubbe raise an eyebrow at the generous size and the curtains draped around it. A fire burned in the fireplace providing warmth in the bedroom, a sharp contrast to the stern, cold faces of the clergy who waited.
The bishop who married them stood off to the side with two other clergy, all in their robes and barely suppressed looks of disgust on the priests' faces. Two female attendees fussed over y/n, clearly everyone waiting for Ubbe and Bjorn. Once again, Ubbe had to force himself to keep his eyes from staying glued to his new wife. She stood there in a thick robe, with her hair falling about her shoulders loosely, free from the bridal veil. Her gaze jumped from Ubbe to the clergy and back as she nibbled on her bottom lip, clearly nervous about what was to occur next. Cheekily, he sent her a quick wink, hoping that would help settle her nerves. If the blush that grew on her cheeks said anything, at least she was not repulsed by him.
The bishop stepped forward. "Are you prepared to consummate your marriage to Lady Y/N before God and man?"
"I am." Ubbe defiantly met the man's eyes.
"Then by the power given to me by the Holy Church, let the two become one in the sight of God and these witnesses and the marriage shall be complete." With that, the man drew their strange cross sign in the air and stepped back to rejoin his fellow clergy.
The two attendees helped y/n out of her heavy robe, revealing a thin, white nightgown that seemed to only enhance her beauty and innocence. Desire thrummed in his blood at the sight of her, but Ubbe ignored the sensation for the moment. The heavy robe was laid on a nearby chair and the two women left the room with a quick curtsy, leaving only the men and y/n.
After a shared look with Bjorn, Ubbe walked over to his new bride, keeping his movements slow so as to not startle her. Her hands were clasped before her, but even as he approached, he could see the faint tremble in them. Her gaze never strayed from the floor. The confidence seen previously in her seemed to have melted away into anxiety, making him think of a skittish colt. He could not help but wonder what changed, if it was due to him or what was supposed to occur between them.
Standing before her, he gently reached out to take her soft hands in his own larger, calloused ones, pleased when she did not flinch at his touch. Although her gaze remained downward.
"Are you alright?" He whispered, aware of the four pairs of eyes watching their every move.
 "Of….of course, my lord husband."
"Remember, I told you to call me by my name."
That caused her head to snap up and meet his gaze. Now he could see the tears welling up in her eyes and her swollen bottom lip from constantly worrying it.
"It'll be alright." He tugged her bottom lip from between her teeth. The way her breath hitched at the intimate touch made his heart pound. He gave her hands in his, a quick squeeze. "Trust me, yeah?"
After a moment, she gave a faint nod, still eyeing him warily but appearing less like she wanted to flee, mutely squeezing his hands back.
A voice broke the stillness in the room, immediately causing her to tense again.
"The two of you must proceed to the bed to finalize the union. We do not have all night to wait for confirmation of her virginity and consummation." One of the priests drawled with an apparent undertone of disdain.
"Then it is a good thing you don't have to wait any longer." Ubbe retorted, narrowing his eyes at the priest. The man huffed but a quiet rebuke from the bishop had the priest pressing his lips together. With one final, assessing scan, the flaxen-haired Viking shifted, pulling his new bride into his side and wrapping an arm around her waist. He felt her tense against him but ignored it to stare at the three clergy with a mocking smirk. "Bjorn."
At the sound of his name, his brother moved from leaning against the doorframe. A scowl on his face, and with the shadows cast over him, made him appear more looming and menacing. "Everybody out."
The three clergy looked back and forth between the two Viking brothers, clearly confused and intimidated.
 "You can't….we must witness…."
"I SAID EVERYBODY OUT!" Bjorn roared, pulling the axe from his side and waving it in the air. "OR DO I NEED TO SPLIT YOUR SKULL TO HELP MY WORDS REACH YOUR TINY BRAINS?!"
The three scrambled, eyes wide in terror, tripping over their long robes in a pathetic attempt to reach the door faster. The bishop turned around, hands grasping the golden cross hanging from his neck. "King….King Alfred will hear of this." He stuttered out in feigned confidence.
A deafening war cry from Bjorn practically shook the room in answer. That was enough to silence the bishop and have him flee, following his companions.
At Bjorn's roar, y/n began shaking like a leaf, her hands tightly holding onto Ubbe's arm wrapped around her. He further pulled her against him, providing shelter from his brother's fury. Even as the room fell back into silence, he could still feel her trembling in his arms. He prayed to the gods that this did not darken her view of him and cause her to fear him.
Once the room cleared and the pounding footfalls of the clergy could no longer be heard, Bjorn turned around with a grin, scratching the back of his neck with his axe. "You know Alfred will be upset when he finds out."
Ubbe smirked. "We can't let him have everything he wants, yeah?"
That made Bjorn chuckle. "I'll go guard the door." He pointed his axe at Ubbe, still grinning. "You owe me for this."
"Scaring priests shitless isn't enough for you?"
Bjorn scoffed. "I can do that whenever I like."
"We'll name our firstborn after you."
Bjorn waved him off, opening the wooden door and stepping out. When the door closed, the echoing sound seemed to fill the empty space in the room.
Ubbe peeked down at the woman in his arms. "Are you alright?"
 "Your brother….is….frightening."
"Aye, don't tell him that though. It would only inflate his ego more."
Once he was certain she was steady on her feet and would not faint, he pressed a chaste kiss to the side of her head before striding away to the other side of the bedroom. Quickly he pulled off his tunic and boots, tossing them onto a nearby chair and then flopped onto the massive bed in only his pants. If nothing else could be said for tonight, he knew he would sleep well. The bed was comfortable, even rivaling his own bed back in Kattegat. With a pleased groan, he tucked an arm under his head and settled under the covers. A wave of exhaustion crashed over him, his eyelids sliding closed.  Even though he felt like he spent most of the day standing around and kneeling for the wedding, it was still tedious and draining. Thank the gods it was over.
 "Um, my lord…."
"Ubbe." He interrupted, lips twitching in amusement. "Or husband. Whichever you prefer."
"Ah, Ubbe….are we not….?" Her hesitant voice trailed off, but the unspoken question lingered in the air.
He snorted. "I have no plans to force myself upon you just to appease your priests and bishop."
"But we must consummate the marriage."
"I will only have sex with you if you desire me as your husband and not just to fulfill an obligation."
The following, prolonged silence caused him to open his eyes and look over at his new wife. It was apparent she had not moved from where he left her. He expected to see fear on her lovely face or revulsion at the idea of her ever willingly wanting him to touch her. Instead, she seemed to be studying him with a mixture of curiosity and respect. That confident woman he had previously met, making a reappearance.
After holding her gaze for a moment, he patted the bed next to him. "Come lay down. I doubt standing there all night will be pleasant."
With a soft smile, she stepped over and crawled under the covers, but maintained an arm’s length distance between them. They both laid on their backs, together yet alone. The only sounds were of the crackling fire and their breathing.
Before he realized it, Ubbe found himself speaking, filling the silence with his babbling but strangely felt he needed to share these thoughts with the woman beside him, the woman whose life was now tied to him, whether she wanted it to be or not.
"I doubt this is the marriage you were dreaming of as a little girl. Probably expected some prince or lord….not a Viking. Your people only see us as heathens, as barbaric devils, at least that's what one of the noblemen said. That we cannot stop the evil and destruction we cause because we are possessed." He snorted, rubbing a hand down his face. After a deep breath, he turned his head to look at her, amazed to find her already watching him. His tone softened as he continued. "I'm sorry you were forced into this marriage. I know it might not mean much to you but I vow I won't ever physically harm you or force myself upon you. After all the wedding ceremonies, you can return to the nunnery if that is what you want."
Her eyes widened momentarily, then drifted away as she worried her lip once again. As he waited for her to speak, his gaze traveled over her face, taking in the small details that until now he had not been able to observe. It would be a blatant lie to say he did not desire to lie with her, to touch and taste her. The current state of his manhood was evidence enough of how simply gazing at her beauty affected him. He made a vow to her. If nothing else, he hoped they could be friendly to one another.
To his shock, she rolled onto her side, facing him completely, hands tucked under her cheek. Without hesitation, he mirrored her action, but kept his head cradled on his arm.
"I have not traveled much," she quietly said, almost shyly, "but there is one thing I've learned through my studies and the observation of others. People aren't born good or bad. Maybe they're born with tendencies either way, but it's the way you live your life that matters." She paused as if choosing her next words carefully. "I do not think you are a barbaric devil or….or possessed. I think…."
 "What?"
"I think you are very brave and strong. Not many would seek an alliance with those that fervently claim them as an enemy….nor be kind to a simple noblewoman."
He smirked, finding himself charmed by her honesty. Carefully, he reached over and brushed a thumb over her cheek. "You are no simple noblewoman, my lady."
"If you are just Ubbe, then I request you call me, y/n."
An unexpected, loud banging on the door startled them both. Y/n gasped and rushed to sit up against the headboard, eyes wide with fright. Ubbe immediately pushed himself up, making sure to put himself between his wife and the door, unsheathing a dagger he had subtly slipped under his pillow.
"Are you two done yet? Some ugly priest out here wants to know!" Bjorn shouted through the door.
Ubbe groaned, putting the dagger away, before calling back. "No! This woman is insatiable! Tell the priest to come back in the morning! Hopefully I can still walk!"
A harsh bark of laughter preceded loud arguing, which could be heard through the door. Raised voices crept underneath the door frame, the loudest being that of Bjorn. Ubbe stayed perched on the bed, to assist his brother if the need called for it. No matter what Alfred or those whiny clergy ordered, no one would be witnessing any consummation of his. Ever. Eventually, the voices dwindled like a dying flame until only silence could be heard from outside. Ubbe figured Bjorn must have won the argument, or used enough threats of bodily harm, since no one entered the bedroom.
The dagger returned to its sheath under his pillow. A habit he had since childhood. A glance to his side showed his wife still shifted as far away from the door as possible, hands clutching the sheets in a tight grip. He reached a hand out to her. "It's alright. Bjorn won't let anyone in."
She took his hand, still eyeing the door warily. "What did you say to him?"
"Ah, nothing important. Just to keep the priests away."
 "Ok."
"We should go to sleep. Today has been long." He stated after he coaxed her back under the covers and no longer sent glances towards the door. Only after she was settled did he relax. Laying on his back, an arm behind his head, his eyes closed almost instantly. He could hear her shuffling occasionally but he paid it no mind. Sleep slinked into his mind, hovering on the edges.
"Ubbe…." A barely-heard whisper pulled him from the brink of sleep.
 "Yes?"
"What if….what if I want to."
 "Mmmm?"
 "Um, fulfill our marital duties."
Well, that got his attention. He turned his head to the side, noting how her gaze traced over his bare chest slowly then lifted to meet his gaze. "Are you asking me to have sex with you?"
"Yes." She bit her bottom lip, even as her eyes never strayed from him.
 "Are you sure?"
 She nodded.
"Hmmm….well, I may be convinced but….you have to kiss me first."
Cautiously yet deliberately, she scooted closer until they lay side by side. In a graceful movement, she leaned over and pressed her lips to his in an innocent, chaste kiss. Her lips were softer than even the pillow beneath him and by the gods, she was going to be his undoing. After a moment, she leaned back, gazing down at him with a nervous yet endearing smile. Before he could say anything, to encourage or instruct, her lips descended on his once again, but this time hungrily. His initial surprise transitioned to a carnal satisfaction when a soft moan slipped out of her after he tugged on her bottom lip. Their mouths connected with a needy kiss, sending a jolt of electricity through him. All thoughts of sleep forgotten.
Suddenly, he flipped them over, pinning her underneath him, taking charge of their love-making. She giggled at the abrupt action but that was quickly silenced by his mouth crashing against hers and thrusting his tongue into her mouth.
As she kissed him back passionately, he wondered if maybe this marriage was not such a bad idea. If the way her lips eagerly sought his, her hands gripped onto biceps as if to keep her steady, her back arched as he trailed open-mouth kisses down her neck….maybe the marriage could be more than just political.
Soon enough, all thoughts vanished from his mind that were not related in regards to exploring the exquisite body of his Saxon wife and listening to her moan his name repeatedly.

He knew it’d happen eventually.
Your presence wasn’t there at HQ anymore, he knew that he’d never get to hold your hand one day, he wouldn’t hear and see you greet him a good morning by the kitchen when he walks by, he would never be able to catch you in his arms ever again when your ODM gear breaks down while you swing around during your off days.
He just never knew how soon it was, he realized how much he took you for granted, when they brought what was left of your body to him, he realized how stupid he was to not have been there by your side. How stupid could he have been, you must’ve been so lonely while you passed.
Nobody spoke when Erwin softly cried as he held your body, nobody tried to talk to him to let go of your corpse, not even Hanji or Levi. His friends surrounded him and you, he held you close to his chest as his friends tried to make him feel better, “Erwin? You should let go, alright?” Hanji gently clutched your limp arm as Erwin had quieted down. “No, I-” Erwin strained voice tried to speak.
“Erwin. Let her go.” Levi’s voice cut through, Erwin looked at him with pain and disbelief in his eyes, “You- Why aren’t any of you grieving?-” Mike’s hand placed itself on his shoulder. “We are, Erwin, but you have to let her go.” Erwin’s grip around your body had tightened. Levi held his wrist, as Hanji slowly pulled you out of his grip. Erwin tried to pull you back in his arms, Levi and Mike pulled him back, restricting him from taking your corpse away from the soldiers who were responsible of handling the corpses of other soldiers.
“You don’t understand, I need to-” Erwin tried to explain himself, as he looked at Mike and Levi frantically, as if to tell them to let him go. The two squad leaders struggled to hold him back. “Erwin, snap out of it! You knew this would happen!” Levi’s harsh voice tried to get through to Erwin, but his cerulean eyes were focused on his lover’s dead body as it slowly faded out of his view.
“You can’t take her away from me!” Erwin’s pained cries tried to convince Hanji to turn back, they could feel their tears run down their cheek, they could feel their grip on your body tighten slightly, as if they too, didn’t want to hand you over, with a heavy sigh, you were placed on the rickety wood of the carriage that carried also what remains of soldiers who fought bravely to their deaths.
———
“Oi, Erwin.” Levi leaned by the door frame, watching as the blonde sat in his chair, holding what seems to be a piece of jewelry, by the way the sun rays shone through the window, blanketing his restless figure and the item with different shades of the sun’s gold, the piece of jewelry produced a glare that seemed bright white to those who chose to stare at it head on.
“Levi?” Erwin looked up from his seemingly long gaze at your necklace, looking up to meet Levi’s industrial blue eyes, who seemed to glare at him from the door frame. “What- what are you doing here?” Erwin’s voice sounded rough and dry, as if he was dehydrated or had a sick throat.
“You haven’t left your quarters, not even for meals, besides, Hanji needs a break from being in charge in your place.” Levi looked away from Erwin’s full blue eyes, it has been fairly obvious that Erwin still hasn’t gotten over your demise.
“Oh yeah, uhm, I’ll be there.” Erwin looked over at Levi who seemed to be fishing something from his pockets. “You don’t have to start working soon, I’m just, here to deliver something honestly.” Erwin’s figure perked up as Levi’s footsteps came closer, placing two letters, one was a blood-stained letter, the second, a letter with the doctor’s wax seal was on it.
Of course, the doctor’s letter came first, probably news about you, his beloved, late wife. He grabbed his letter opener, prying gently at the black wax seal that kept it closed until it was delivered to him.
He slowly removed the parchment out of the envelope, placing it on the side as his eyes scanned the words on the parchment. His eyes scanned it over and over again before a heavy and broken sigh came out of his lips. Levi looked over to Erwin who seemed to be on the verge of crying once again.
Levi knew better than to poke through Erwin’s business so he left quietly, closing the door to give his commander some privacy.
Erwin’s hold on the letter tightened as it wrinkled the parchment. It read,
———
Trost District, Jan. 16th 851
Commander Erwin Smith.
Survey Corps.
Commander Smith, I am writing to you about your late wife, Mrs. Smith. I am saddened to share with you that your wife had carried while in battle, she was 4 weeks in her pregnancy, I am terribly sorry to be the one who had to inform you of your late child, I bring my condolences and hope that soon enough, you’ll be able to come from Trost to Wall Sina to collect your late wife’s corpse and give her a final resting place.
My Condolences
Dr. Edward Harley
———
Erwin felt himself freeze, he tried to take in deep breaths, doing anything to prevent him from spilling his tears, he knew if even one spilled from out his eyes, he’d never stop crying again.
The overwhelming guilt of not being able to be there by your side in the battlefield, to not be present during your passing, you must’ve cried for him, he shook his head, trying to rid himself of his thoughts of you and looked up to the dirty ceiling of his quarters as he tried to blink his tears away.
He continued on, he felt his hands weaken as he reached for the blood stained letter, he knew it was from you, the rich royal blue wax seal, a sign of extreme passion for the one who was to receive the letter. His letter opener pried at the wax seal, opening with a bit more force from the knife.
He pulled out the parchment the envelope dropping as soon as he let it go. He read this slowly and carefully, different from the doctor’s letter. His eyes ran over your written words carefully, making sure not to miss not even one letter on the parchment. He didn’t even notice his tears staining the parchment, the ink slowly spreading into the parchment, not being water-proof.
The letter was carelessly thrown onto his desk as he cried his heart out, the letter read,
———
Dearest, Erwin,
My beloved husband, I am currently writing this letter on the day of our wedding, I will carry this letter everyday with me, for in fear of my demise being uncertain whether it’d be today or years later.
It pains me, the thought of leaving such a remarkably amazing husband behind, I knew from the day we both met each other that our lives will be short, which is why we both married as soon as we were sure that we truly wanted to spend every second of our lives being in each other’s arms. I wanted to start a family with you, Erwin. I knew it will be hard to be able to start a family but I want to someday, I hope that both of us live long enough to atleast have a child together, I wish to wake up in your arms everyday, I wish to watch you and our child play around as they laughed cheerfully from enjoying their childhood.
I am sorry that it came to the time you’re reading this now, rather than a time where we lived happily, I was selfish enough to wish that you never had to read this and I was able to throw this letter away. I want you to know that my death will not keep us apart, this world was cruel enough to take me away from you.
I am strong enough to tell you that even if in this time I’m taken away, I will still find you in another life, I will wait a hundred years to be with you again, my beloved husband and hopefully, the future father of my children.
I promise that I will perish with you as my last thought and our wedding as my last memory, may we meet again.
Yours Truly, Y/N Smith.
———
He finally let his cries out, it wasn’t silent nor was it pretty, it was loud and painful, his eyes stung from the salty tears that left it, the painful and broken cries from his mouth went ignored by Erwin, the letter now laid on his desk as he had his head in his arms, his shoulders shook with every cry, his lungs begged to breath big breaths rather than staggered and short ones.
His hands clenched around his hair, it felt easy to pull out his hair, he could feel the cold ring on his finger, which used radiate so much warmth, even if it was the coldest night or the winter days. It was like the ring was powered by your presence. It felt warm rather than cold metal whenever you were with him. Now it feels cold forever, colder than any blizzard or colder than ice on his skin.
He cried out his guilt and his anger, he cried out the guilt of not being able to grant you the one wish you wanted, a family.
He felt horrible knowing that he could never hold you or his child ever again. He should’ve kept you here, he should’ve never let you went on that expedition. He should’ve been there. He wanted to turn back time, even just a few seconds from your death he could’ve at least done something, just something.
Erwin cried for what seemed like endlessly, hours it felt, on the other side of his closed door, was Levi and Hanji, who was stationed around his door, Hanji sat down on the ground, the tray of food originally brought warm enough so Erwin could atleast enjoy something while mourning, now laid beside them cold and tough.
They listened as Erwin let out staggered breaths and pained cries, they listened as their friend was miserable. Levi glared at the closed door of their friend’s quarters, as if it was to blame for the pain Erwin felt.
They sat and listened to Erwin’s cries over and over again, waiting for the right time to come in and comfort their blonde-headed friend.
“Levi..I can’t stand to listen to him anymore, I’m going in.” Hanji pulled themselves up, dusting their uniform before grabbing the door knob, a pale hand covered Hanji’s, they looked over to Levi’s face, emotionless eyes bore straight in Hanji’s pitiful ones.
“Let him cry and mourn, he won’t say anything if we go in there, you know he keeps to himself.” Levi suggested, Pulls back as Hanji let out a small sigh, stepping back from the door.
“I wish I could help him.” Hanji mumbled, sitting back down beside the closed door, trying their best to drown out Erwin’s muffled cries.
“Everyone loses something everyday, it just so happens to be the most important thing, Erwin lost these past few days.” Levi looked over to Hanji before glancing at Erwin’s door and walking away, leaving with slight sympathy in his heart.
Hanji soon walked away with the cold tray in hand, unable to take the overwhelming aura of sadness and guilt radiating off Erwin’s quarters, Hanji walked away with sadness built up inside themselves and a determination to lead while Erwin grieves.
Hanji looked back one more time, seeing Levi retreating back to his office before mumbling something as they walked back to the mess hall, deep in thought.
“Captain Hanji?” Moblit’s voice broke through her train of thought, “Is something wrong?” The blonde spoke worriedly, Hanji looked up at Moblit before speaking softly.
“As much as I think what Levi said is right, I don’t think Erwin just lost something, I think he lost his whole world.”

Notes: Found this in an old file (wrote this about two years ago, maybe?) But I kinda like this little story ❤️ If you’d like to check out my previous works, you can find them on my Masterlist 😉
A deep sigh of relief left my lips as I brushed my damp hair. I heard a commotion in the living room, and began to dread the potential fight I would have to break up between a four and six year-old over a remote control.
“Mommy, mommy, mommy!” Caleb screamed in excitement, while bursting through my bedroom door like a maniac
“You’ll never believe who’s downstairs with us” He jumped with a cheeky smile
“Cal, who’s downstairs?” I ask worryingly, instinctively reaching for the gun that I kept in my nightstand
Caleb laughed and ran downstairs again.
As a homicide detective, my cop instincts combined with my motherly instincts took over me and I ran to the living room in only a tank top and panties, with my gun already aimed to shoot.
Although, the last person I thought I would see standing there, braiding my daughter Maeve’s hair in a style reminiscent of queen Elsa, and watching Caleb showing off his somersault technique was HIM…
That caught me off guard and he must have sensed it, because the first thing he did was look up.
“Hi” He said shyly
“What are you doing here, Finn?” I asked, putting my gun down on the dinner table
“I swear I didn’t break in” He laughed, attempting a joke
“What do you want?” I decided to ignore the small talk...there was no need for that, not after everything he did
“I have an injury. So I have some time off for a while and I wanted to stop by to see the kids and you” He whispered the last part
“Injury, huh? Is it bad?”
Even after everything he did, I couldn’t help but worry about his well being, you know, for the kids sake!...
Ok fine, I still love him, but he doesn’t need to know that.
“No, nothing serious. But I got two months off and I was excited to see my family” He looked at me when he said that
“Are you going to see your parents?”
“Yeah and I was thinking if it would be ok with you if I take the kids with me?”
“Of course! Why would I mind?”
His family was always very loving and kind to me, and we became very close once the kids were born. Sometimes I would take them to Ireland on my vacation so they could see their grandparents or they would travel to New York so they could see the kids.
“Because of...you know” He trailed off
“Neither your family or the kids have anything to do with that. I’m a grown woman, Finn. I know how to separate the sheep from the goat, ok?!”
I could feel the air becoming thicker with the tension, until Maeve said
“Mommy, why aren’t you wearing any pants? Are you feeling hot? I can get you the Japanese hand fan daddy gave it to me, if you’d like” She smiled
“Thank you buttercup, but that won’t be necessary. I’ll be right back”
......................................................................
Now, properly dressed, I made my way towards the kitchen to get dinner ready.
“Do you need any help?” Finn asked from behind me
“No, thank you. You can go stay with the kids” I didn’t even bother to turn around to face him
“Y/N, can we talk?”
I sighed “There’s nothing worth talking about, Finn”
“Please?”
“What can you possibly say that will change what happened? Nothing! It will be a bunch of empty sorry’s and excuses, so let’s just save it, ok?!”
“It’s not empty, I truly am sorry”
“You should’ve thought that before you believed the bunch of lies she told you”
He opened his mouth to say something but Caleb began calling for him to go watch the cartoons with them.
......................................................................
“Mommy, can daddy have dinner with us?” Maeve asked
“Of course, pumpkin. If he would like to”
“Yay” She screams “Daddy, come!” She beckoned him
The subjects of conversation at dinner were mostly controlled by the kids. They, as per usual, asked me how many bad people I had taken down that day, but also asked Finn about his traveling, which state or city he liked the most, the best foods he’d eaten, which LEGO set was he building, if the hotel beds were soft and ‘what about the blankets?’
“Alright, I know you two are very excited to see daddy, but we need to brush those teeth! So, let’s go kiddos” I got up from my chair
“I’ll do it” He grabbed both kids, resting one on each side of his hip and went up to brush their teeth
When he came back down alone, I give him a questioning look
“They’re asleep” He smiled softly
“Oh, you already put them down for bed?! Thank you” I said, cleaning the kitchen island.
He nodded “I just didn’t bathe them because they said you already did”
“Yeah, that’s the first thing I do when I get home. Or my mom does it for me if I get caught up in a case, but most of the time I do it”
“How’s work?” He asked, sitting down on one of the high benches.
“Good, Richard is my superior again, so he helps me a lot with my shifts, because of the kids” I smiled
“The old man is still working?” He laughed, amused
“Yeah, he already said he will only leave his badge when he’s dead” I cackled “How’s road life? Amazing, I presume”
“Nah, don’t let the bright lights fool ya” He laughed, bitterly “I love wrestling, being in the ring, performing for the audience, but once I pass through the curtains backstage it gets lonely” A little bit of sadness could be heard in his voice “It’s very lonely... it’s different from when I came back home to you and the kids. Now I just get back to an empty apartment, wishing I could get back home” He looks at me
“Finn, please”
“I love you! Why can’t we just try again?”
“Because no!”
“Why?” He pleaded
“Because you don’t know what it was like ok?! You don’t know how much it hurt me, the things you said, the fact that you believed some envious woman’s gossip about me having an affair with Lucas! He’s married for fuck’s sake! To a man!”
“I- I didn’t knew Lucas was gay, Y/N”
“Yeah, you didn’t! And why is that? Oh yeah, because you did not trust your own wife, all you saw was the fact that he is a man and my work partner so you just bought the assumption that woman sold you, choosing to believe her instead of me!”
“It wasn’t like that, ok?” He tried to explain
“It wasn’t like that, you say? When you were the one who came in here filled with accusations! Saying that I had an affair with him, that I cheated on you, that you wished you would’ve slept with half of the women who throw themselves at you everyday, doubting that those kids upstairs are yours, when they’re the fucking spitting image of you! You said all those horrible things, Finn. Not me!”
He stared at his knuckles as I continued, now crying
“How do you think that made me feel? To listen from my own husband how much he wished he had cheated on me. Bragging about all of the hot young women who are waiting to be fucked by a wrestler...You know it was always hard for me to accept that you wanted me and not some hot girl in the locker room, that you had chosen me, that I got lucky enough to not only marry a man who’s physically breathtaking but also such a beautiful person on the inside. And still, it was that same Prince Charming who became the frog! I never thought that” I had to stop myself from saying the next horrible words roaming through my mind
“You never thought that, what, Y/N?”
I shook my head
“Say it”
I shook my head again and he got up from the bench, coming to where I was standing
“Say it, love. I can take it”
“I don’t want to say it” I whispered as more tears rolled down my cheeks
“Shhh, it’s ok, love” Finn pulled my head to his chest “Please don’t cry, I hate when you cry” His arms are tightly locked around me, providing me the sense of comfort that only he could give. And I hated that!
“Let me go” I tried to push him away
“What’s wrong, Y/N?”
“Just don’t touch me” I said, shoving him away
He knew that I was closing him off, I could see it in his eyes
“Say it! You never thought that what?” He insisted, more forcefully this time
“I never thought that someday I would regret meeting you! Marrying you, starting a family with you. If I could do it all again, I wouldn’t!” I spat
“You wouldn’t?” He scooted closer
“No” I answered with venom in my voice, trying to turn my undying love for him into hatred
“But I would!” Finn said firmly
I shook my head in denial, as he cupped my cheeks in his calloused hands, making me look up to meet his blue eyes
“I would do it, all over again. Meeting you, dating you, marrying you, having kids with you, in the future seeing the kids graduate high school, college, be at their wedding, take our future grandkids to the park, and spend the rest of my life with you! I would choose you over and over and over again! I choose you everyday, Y/N”
I squeezed my eyes shut
“You’re lying! Stop lying, Finn” I whispered
“Am I though? Open your eyes and look at me. I was never able to hide ANYTHING from you, I can lie to anyone but you. You can always see through me, so just look at me and tell me if I’m lying. If I am, then I promise you, I’ll leave this house right now and you’ll never have to see me again! Just open your eyes” He kissed each closed eyelid
After a few minutes, I gathered the courage to finally look at him and I could only see love, regret, pain and truth.
“I love you Y/N and always will. Yes, I was dumb to listen to some random gossip and I’m paying the price for it, but the only thing I ask you is: please, don’t give up on us! I’ll give you whatever time you need, just promise me that we’ll fix it. That we’ll be together again...You, Caleb and Maeve are my life! I would die to save you in a blink, love. If I had to choose between your life or mine I would choose yours, becau-“
I placed two fingers on his lips
“Stop talking like that! You know I don’t like it. It attracts those bad vibes, you know?”
Finn lightly chuckled “But I mean it”
“Stop! I don’t like when you talk like that... I hate to think that something bad could ever happen to you. You know, because of the kids” I tried to hide my feelings
“And you wouldn’t miss me, not even a little bit?” He teased
“I miss you everyday” I quickly slapped a hand over my mouth when I realized what I just said
He smiled sweetly, leaning down to place sweet and innocent pecks all over my face.
Finn started on my forehead, then he went to my temples, followed by the cheekbones, apple’s of the cheek, jaw, chin, side of my lips. Finn pulled back to search for any resistance signs and when he found none, he kissed my lips. A lazy kiss, that grew more urgent by the minute.
“Fuck, I missed you so much” He moaned, now kissing my neck
“Finn, wait. Wait a minute” I tried to pull his head back by his hair but that only made him moan.
“Finn!” I said harshly, finally having his attention
“What’s wrong, love? Don’t you want it? I thought that-“
“Have you seen anyone since we broke up?” I asked, not even letting him finish his sentence
“We didn’t break up! You asked me for some time and-“
“Finn, just answer the fucking question please” I pleaded
“No, I haven’t been with anyone in those 8 months. Except for my hand when I look at your pictures” He smirked
“You’re so ridiculous” I whispered in relief as my arms circled his waist
“So...do you still want to make love?” He eagerly asked
“We never made love, Finny. We’ve always fucked senseless” I laughed
“No! We’ve always made love it’s just that we’re more frantic about it” He chuckled
“Ok, we sleep together and then what?” I asked
“Then you stay here and I go back to my apartment” He simply said
My heart sunk in my chest as a faint “Oh, ok” left my lips
“So I can pack my clothes and bring them back home” He said, as a devilish smile grew on his face “That’s of course, if you want me here”
“Asshole” I lightly punched his chest “I thought you just wanted a one night stand and that’s it. You scared me!”
Finn chuckled, beckoning me closer to him
“You could never be just a one night stand, love. You fuck too good to be just a one time thing” He winked
“So you just want me for my bedroom skills, huh?” I teased
“Yes and no” He giggled “Yes, because no other woman fucks like you do” He bit my neck, growling “And no, because there’s so much more about you than the bedroom” He hugged my waist “You’re my best friend, my nurturer, my supporter, the air that keeps me alive, my everything!” He kissed me passionately
“Can we try again? Start over and leave all that shit behind us?” He whispered
“If you promise me that if we get back together, you won’t listen to other people’s gossip and will come to me whenever you hear somethi-“
“Yes!” He pecked my lips excitedly, as a wide smile took over his face “I promise you, love! That’ll never happen again, you have my word!” He gave me a bear hug and spun me around the kitchen
“Finn!” I squealed, when we almost fell to the ground “We’re going to wake up the kids” I giggled
“Oh no, shhhh” He shut me up with a kiss “We can’t let that happen! Because as much as I love our children, I haven’t gotten any in eight months and I can’t wait to change that with you right now” He pushed us towards the couch and laid on top of me
“But I thought you were going to go and get your clothes”
“I don’t need clothes, woman! You know I like to sleep naked” He winked
And roamed his head down to...
Please, if you’re comfortable with it, let me know your thoughts on this? Feedbacks are always appreciated 🥰😘

The Courting Ways of Wolves (Part 4)
Dumb Boys! I love them!
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 (here) Part 5 Epilogue
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Almost a month after the silver dawn they passed through a lively little river town. It wasn’t so big a city that Geralt’s senses were completely overwhelmed, but also large enough that Jaskier had good, hearty crowds every night. The nature of river towns like this meant that boats stopped through all the time, shipping goods up and down river, so sailors stopped in taverns and moved along. Every night was a fresh crowd.
Geralt decided that they’d stay in the town for a week. Rivers meant plenty of contracts too, drowners and such. There was also a decent shopping district what with all the merchants, and he wanted to tackle Number Five from his courting list.
Give Jaskier Gifts (non dead ones).
It was going to be easy.
Thirty minutes later, it was not easy.
“Ooh I’ll come shopping too,” Jaskier said, rummaging through his bag in their room in the inn. “I need a new notebook.”
Geralt panicked a little bit. He wanted to get Jaskier a new notebook, and he didn’t have much idea for other gifts. Then an idea struck.
“Why don’t you and I look around, then after your performance tonight you’ll have more to spend.”
“Good idea Geralt, and who knows, if it goes well maybe I could get us a room with two beds instead of one.”
Damn.
Jaskier linked his arm with Geralt’s and swanned off down the stairs, leaving Geralt to either follow or have his arm dislocated at the shoulder.
“Pardon me,” Jaskier waved down the grumpy looking innkeeper. She walked over scowling, small toddler on her hip.
“Perhaps later, after I’ve performed in your fine establishment,” Jaskier asked. “We might discuss changing us to a room with two beds?”
She looked at Jaskier. She looked at Geralt, who had paid for their current room with a grunted ‘that’s fine’ when she’d said it had one bed. She looked at their linked arms.
“Too many sailors coming in off the river this time ‘o year,” she said brusquely. “We can talk but ye’d be better off counting on the one you’ve got.”
Jaskier shrugged good naturedly. “Then keep it we shall, my dear lady.” She wasn’t listening, calling out instead to a child, about eight of indeterminate gender.
“Toos, whatever’s in your mouth had better not be for guests.” The child, laughing maniacally around a mouthful of something raced out the back door of the inn, only to be scooped up by his father, a broad, heavy man with a jolly face.
They left the family to their domesticity and ventured out into the merchant district. There was more going on than Geralt preferred, his senses blurring as he tried to be on a swivel to protect against any potential dangers. None appeared though, and he allowed his senses to narrow to the warmth of Jaskier’s arm in his.
Jaskier pulled them over to a potter’s shop. Tiny vases and bottles adorned shelves. There were bigger pieces too, some done in gorgeous colors and outrageous designs, but the little bottles captured Jaskier’s eye.
“Look Geralt, I could keep perfumes in these.”
“You have perfume bottles.”
“Oh I know, but the colors are pretty,” Jaskier said, smiling at the potter and pulling Geralt along.
Leather goods. Very fine work, too, Geralt thought. It was next to a paper goods and bookbinding shop, and the two had obviously done some kind of trade. On a display table between the two stalls sat leather bound books of all sizes and kinds. Jaskier poured over them, exclaiming and running feather light fingers over textured leather bindings. Jaskier sighed longingly and went into the bookbinding stall to see the less expensive journal options.
All of Jaskier’s past journals had been a sort of card cover. They didn’t last well, although Jaskier tore through them so quickly it didn’t matter. Geralt looked at the leather books here, his eye catching on a large, sturdy one in brown leather. It looked good for the road, with a braided leather tie to keep it shut.
He glanced up, but Jaskier was still admiring the paper goods.
What had really been caught by the centerpiece book. It was a mammoth thing, thick and beautifully made in a deep, wine red leather. There were little brass clasps on the side, buffed up to look like gold. In a fairy tale, it would be the master enchanter’s spellbook. A tome.
Jaskier deserved a tome. He’d written so many songs and poems, and he’d mentioned once or twice that he ought to write it all down in one book. This should be the book. Geralt could just picture Jaskier in the library of Kaer Morhen, with the snow coming down outside and ink on his fingertips, carefully transcribing his work.
It was like with the silver dawn, Geralt could see it so clearly, his little family would all be in the library. Ciri and Geralt and Jaskier all together again.
Next to the big red book was a little journal, made of the same color of leather. It had a little shiny brass lock with a tiny key tied on a string. A diary fit for a princess.
He had a plan.
He went into the leather stall and asked about their repair prices, haggled a little, then said he’d be back with his order that evening. Jaskier walked back into the leather goods stall and smiled up at him. Parts of Geralt’s chest went all tingly and golden.
They browsed the other stalls, spending the most time at a metalsmith’s stall. Geralt was impressed with the weapon quality. Jaskier admired the jewelry, trying on various pretty, delicate rings and holding them up in the light.
Geralt watched the way he interacted with people.
When Jaskier had first joined him, he’d thought it was all an act, that Jaskier couldn’t possibly like so many people. He did though, and they loved him for it. From the outside it was clearer to Geralt why. Jaskier was polite of course, and complimentary of the workmanship, but instead of dealing in vauge descriptions, he complimented details. He found and complimented something extraordinary about each piece, drawing conversation from the stall owner’s wife, who apparently did the jewelry part of things. He complimented the delicate artistry of a slim ring, then the clever design of a bracelet catch, asking with truly genuine curiosity about each.
Shopkeepers love curiosity, and anyone would love to have their skill complimented so honestly. Geralt felt himself smiling as he watched.
“Good lad you’ve got there,” the weaponsmith said. “Husband?” Geralt turned to him.
“Not yet,” he said. Then his shoulders slumped a little. “Not even officially a sweetheart yet.”
The burly smith chuckled. “I know that story, you think it was easy for me to woo that goddess there?”
Geralt looked over at the jewelry maker, still locked in conversation with Jaskier. She was middle aged, but beauty doesn’t fade with age as quickly as mortals seemed to think. She was indeed a great beauty. To judge by the way she gestured avidly while speaking, she was also a passionate and firey one too.
“I’m not much for romance,” the smith said, drawing Geralt’s attention back. “But your lad there is yours, heart and soul, you just need the proper instruments to tell him you’re his as well.”
“How did you woo your lady?” Geralt asked.
The smith chuckled again. “I was a much younger man then, but I stood about without a shirt in my smithy and busily hammered and flexed every time she came by.”
Geralt brightened, showing off his muscles was something he could do. “Did it work?”
“Not even a little. She was completely unimpressed.”
Oh. And Jaskier had seen Geralt’s muscles before too.
“So I went to her house one evening,” the smith continued, a glimmer of memory in his eye. “I’d worked for weeks to make her something as lovely as she was. Of course, I wasn’t so good a smith then either, but I’d tired. It was a braided metal band, to push back her hair, she’s wearing it now. Worn it almost every day since, including our wedding day.”
Geralt looked over. Silver and gold did indeed push back her curly hair. With her aquiline nose she looked like a woodcut of some goddess he’d seen once.
“And then I did the hard part,” said the smith. Geralt looked to him. “I talked to her, really spoke with her and told her how I admired her, not just for her beauty. Then she invited me in out of the rain and made me tea.”
Damn. Geralt wasn’t good at talking but he really would need to, it seemed.
“More than fourty years of marriage now,” the smith said.
“I can’t make him something as beautiful as he is,” Geralt said. A potion just wouldn’t work.
“I think any gift to show you care would work,” the smith said.
Geralt looked around at the weapons on display, and the smith went back to shining some of his work. There was a dagger on display.
Jaskier had daggers, and he worked with them well, but this one was beautiful.
“May I?” he said, and the smith gestured obligingly.
It was obviously a piece of combined work between the smith and his wife. It was well made and balanced, but very slim, perfect for slipping up a sleeve or into a boot. It was also a piece of artwork, both the hilt and sheath inlaid with mother of pearl and a mirror-shiny black stone, with silver threads surrounding. The pearl wound about the hilt in a pattern of perfect vines, shining in the black. The sheath was a night sky, a curving crescent moon, fantasy thin, hung in a black sky, lit all around with tiny pearl stars inlaid with painstaking care. The tip of the sheath was sliverwork with more of the pearl, more vines.
“The blade is silver,” Geralt noted.
“Yes,” the smith clearly approved of Geralt’s eye. “Moon silver, never tarnishes, never goes dull.”
Geralt was going to buy it for Jaskier. It was a cerainty. It was probably Destiny. She may be a bitch but maybe she’d decided to help him on this one. The price was extravagant, of course, and Geralt wouldn’t haggle a penny, not for artistry such as that. Moon silver was wildly difficult to work, too. Magic like that made for difficult smithing.
Geralt locked eyes with the smith, who’s mustache-which even Vesemir would have been jealous of-twitched in the direction of Jaskier. He and the jewelry maker were coming over.
“I’ll wrap this shall I?” asked the smith in a whisper.
Geralt gave a hint of a nod. “I’ll be back for it later,” he said, matching the volume.
“Geralt,” Jaskier exclaimed, throwing an arm around his shoulders. “Let us trouble these good people no longer, at least until I return to clean out this fine lady’s entire stock, I can hear my audience call me.”
It was indeed almost supper time, and they bid their goodbyes to the couple. By the time they got back to the inn, the bar room on the first floor was full. The atmosphere was cheerful in the room, helped along by both the proprietors busily filling tankards of ale and bowls of hot stew. Jaskier ordered two of each for the pair of them.
Somehow he always got served first at a bar. Geralt wasn’t complaining, and the stew was hot and good, with chicken and potatoes and herbs. Geralt and Jaskier both slurped it down. Jaskier slammed his ale too, disappearing up the stairs to their room with a wink.
Geralt knew Jaskier’s pre-performance routine well, and stayed down at their table to give him room. A teen with a face full of pimples picked up the bowls and spoons, as well as Jaskier’s tankard. He looked skittish to Geralt, so he didn’t nod for fear of scaring the lad. Thus far everyone had been fairly kind, Geralt didn’t want to ruin that.
He sat back and sipped his ale appreciatively. Bartending was an art in itself and not a well known one. Geralt had been in too many pubs where bartenders didn’t take proper care, but this one had. He probably put cloth over the barrells over night in this damp weather.
Jaskier clattered down the stairs, lute strung and tuned, and Geralt stood. He’d stay for at least the first few songs, but there were more patrons pouring in and he’d move from the table to a seat at the bar to leave room.
A song and a half into Jaskier’s set he realized his mistake. Jaskier could see him, and often locked eyes on him while singing to send a wink or just a friendly glance. He didn’t have a chance to slip away. Of course, he could leave anyway, but it just felt wrong to have Jaskier watch him leave.
“Now I know,” said a sharp voice from the bar, “that our barstools don’t have splinters, so what’s gotten in to you.” It was the bartender’s wife, the one who tended the rooms upstairs. She was still glowering, but without the child on her hip this time.
“I’ve got errands to run,” Geralt muttered, not fond of sharing his business.
“Pf.” She said. “Just like a man to leave all the errands to the last minute. And you want to sneak out without him noticing for a bit.” It wasn’t a question. Geralt nodded.
“Your lad there’s pretty good, makin’ us money, so I’ll do you a favor,” she looked at him sharply. “When I say go you go, and I’ll thank you to tell your sweetheart you care for him before he goes and tries to buy two beds next time.” She sniffed. “Save you both trouble in the long run.”
She cleaned a spilled spot on the bar and let out a short whistle.
Geralt felt like he’d been hit over the head with a mallet.
In response to the whistle, the child from that morning appeared, Toos, Geralt remembered. The innkeeper gave the kid a penny, “Go ask for that song you like, then hurry back now.” Toos gave a gap toothed grin and dissappeared as quickly as they’d come.
Geralt watched the disturbance at about knee level through the crowd as Toos fought their way through. Jaskier, basking in the applause noticed them immediately and listened carefully to the request, smiling widely at the audience and biting the proffered penny as if it were a gold coin to huge laughter.
The innkeeper snapped her fingers under Geralt’s nose and pointed to the door. He took the cue.
The market was less bustling, but still open, and Geralt took in a breath of cool, evening air. Then he assessed his plan.
He wanted to buy Jaskier lots of gifts over the course of this year, and he surely would, but they would be small things mostly. Quills and ink and lutepicks, that sort of thing. Those could be found in smaller towns and villages, but craft work like he found here was hard to find along the Path. He could buy either the red book or the dagger right now, and with the contracts he’d do this week he’d pay for the other. He’d buy the practical, brown leather book regardless, because right now Jaskier needed a journal and not a tome.
He decided on the dagger first. The smith had shared good advice, and, if someone were to buy the leather tome from the display, there was at least a chance Geralt could find one like it elsewhere. Where but here could he find a moonsilver dagger for Jaskier?
The smith was not surprised to see Geralt, and his wife sent him a friendly wink. Geralt bought the dagger and thanked the smith, complimenting both he and his wife on the work. Then he carried his package, wrapped in two layers, cloth and paper, out into the street.
He dropped a bit of tack off at the leather worker’s shop for repair, to pick it up in two days. Then he took the sensible brown leather journal from the display stand.
The bookbinder and paper merchant was a bent old man, sitting on a stool at the back of the shop, chewing tobacco. There was a greasy twist of it, black as tar, in waxed paper on the counter.
“Excuse me,” Geralt said. The shopkeeper looked up, jaw still working. “We don’t like your kind here,” he said in a voice that cracked like the paper he worked. Well. There it was, there was always someone.
“Please,” he said. “It’s a gift for a-a friend. It’s very important.”
The old shop keeper eyed him and the book in his hand. Then he obviously decided that making a sale was worth serving Geralt. He growled out a price, and Geralt didn’t haggle.
Geralt stood there, the old man staring him down while counting the coins. He figured it was worth a shot.
“Could I ask a favor?”
“No.”
“Could you keep the journal on your display table, the large red one, back for me? And the little one in the same color beside it? Only for a few more days.”
“No.”
“Please,” Geralt said, losing hope. “It’s for a good cause.”
The man spat tobacco juice into a can with disgusting accuracy. “What cause do monsters have, comin’ in here and asking favors of me?”
Geralt caught the man’s watery eyes. “Love, true love, please, keep them back just a few days?”
“Didn’t think monsters could feel,” scoffed the man, but he tilted his head. “You mean that nice young man, what came in with you earlier?”
“That’s the one, I want to give him the perfect gift.”
The man scoffed again, but it was less cruel. “I can tell people they’re for display. You’ve got three days.”
Geralt let out a relieved breath. “Thank you,” he said. “Thank you very much.”
“Don’t thank me,” growled the man, cutting off another piece of tobacco with a knife. “And don’t darken my door until you have the money.”
Geralt left, feeling very light. He reentered the inn to a round of applause for Jaskier, but thankfully no one looking his way. He slipped up the stairs.
The dagger wasn’t a gift for tonight, he decided. That was a grand gift, for sometime special. He put it in his potion bag, where Jaskier was forbidden to look, for fear he’d get into something deadly. The journal was laid on the bed, just where Jaskier would see it.
Then Geralt went back downstairs to catch the last of Jaskier’s set.
Jaskier practically danced up to Geralt afterwards. He was full of that strange energy he always had after a good performance, like bubbles in champagne. Geralt could feel the muscles around his eyes soften.
“I liked your last song,” he said. Number Three on The List, compliment him.
“Paddy Lay Back?” Jaskier said. “You’ve heard it before.”
“Yes,” Geralt said as they went upstairs. “I like it.”
Jaskier beamed.
He chattered about the performance all the way into their room, and managed to pull off his boots before noticing the journal on the bed. He stopped mid sentence.
He looked at the journal, then at Geralt, mouth still half open.
Geralt remembered the smith, talking about how he’d won his wife over, but his mouth felt stuffed with wool.
“It’s for you,” he managed. “For your songs. It’ll last longer than the card bound ones.”
Jaskier picked it up, rubbing his thumb across the smooth leather, then he turned to Geralt. His eyes were shining.
With a speed that even Geralt’s mutated reflexes couldn’t manage, he was enveloped in a hug. Jaskier had his arms around his neck, the journal still in hand.
Geralt hesitated.
Then he wrapped his arms around Jaskier’s chest and held him.
Later that night, in the same bed as a snoring bard, he still felt the heat of that hug. Jaskier’s elbow dug into his ribs and he barely felt it, but the hug was still there. He thought of the dagger in his potions bag.
He’d talk to Jaskier then, giving that to him. For now, he’d have time to plan what to say. Before he could try, however, sleep claimed him.
