Modern Fantasy Monsters: Family Matters

A family line full of great magic users who's family tree is a literal family tree that grows old photos and letters from their branches. When a new family member is born a new sprot blossoms from said tree next to their parent and when an elder passes away their branch weakens falling off but, regrowing stronger than before so their memory can live on.

Halflings who's family gatherings are so large that it's always a large scale event that makes even rivals werewolf gatherings. They really know how to party and they are super close with each other.

Speaking of werewolf gathering, imagine a human who never had a close relationship with their own family marring into a werewolf family where they're all really close with each other. The human is an honorary pack member and they are overjoyed being apart of a loving family even if its not their own.

Alternatively a monster who never had a chance to understand the concept of a family being accepted into a human family with open arms being surprised yet super happy that they have people that they can trust other than their partner

Vampires who have family photos from every decade that they've lived through. Imagine seeing this proud ancient hand painted portrait of the family in decade old clothes next to the family portrait of said vampire family dressed in matching clothes doing on of those JCpenny's awkward family photos from the 80's.

A human with a child marring a magic user who also has a child creating a blended family of magic and non-magical customs. Sure the witch child will use their magic sometimes prank and tease their non-magical sibling but that doesn't mean they won't defend them when push comes to shove.

A giant couple adopting an abandoned human child along with their own child having those two grow up to be best of friends with the human sibling being the one to defend their MUCH larger sibling from bullies rather the other way around.

A young witch eagerly waiting for the day to get her powers so that she can be just like her parents when she's older. She counts the days until her birthday and her parents are happy that she's excited that they secretly got her a pet familiar for her birthday too to add to the surprise.

There is nothing left of what once was. The men of the past knew this land so unalike to what it now is. When they looked to the sun, they saw meadows, thick greens, trees with canopies impenetrable. They saw the walls of kingdoms, forged by calloused hands and steadfast against their enemies. Titans walked among men, in this past life. They watched as before them birthed an era of plenty, and chronicled it in their own various means. The world went by a different name, then. Now it is simply the Mor. There are no more men, no more kingdoms. A catastrophe took all that it could, and blanketed the rest in frost. All that remains of this grandiose past are relics and ruins - abandoned to waste away beneath the weight of time. The land holds no other memories of what once was - the green, the meadows, the trees; forgotten. Those so blighted by survival are ignorant to what caused the world’s decay, and the now defunct society that died with it. They’ve only ever known the ice, the cold, the Mor. What is left now is hardly much of anything. The Mor is a cold, unforgiving continent surrounded by frigid seas. Its inhabitants are at constant war - against both the elements, and their peers. Though once home to magic aplenty, what little exists now is just as dangerous as it is useful. Life is nothing more than a long, bloody feud to the death: one in which everyone eventually loses.

Types of Wizards! ✨

❥ This was just a fun idea since I’ve been reading lots of fantasy headcanons, I wanted to try! Plus I don’t see too many for magic-y stuff out there so this gave me a good idea!

❥ Also! Most of these are female centered but some of this can be for boys too! I just prefer the term wizard because it sounds cooler lol. But thank you! Enjoy!

Storybook Wizards 🤎

Usually has an owl or sparrows as a companion.

Quills are made from barn owl feathers.

Wands are made from cinnamomum trees, elm trees, or hazel trees.

Likes to feed the crickets that sing on the bookshelves. Some think it’s gross but they’re very nice!

Uses golden wax seals for nearly everything.

Collects old trinkets they find or receive from friends. They don’t work anymore or are just old, but has tried fixing them up.

Loves both books & scrolls, but thinks books are easier to hold onto. That one friend who decides to read one more chapter, but ends up reading all night.

Loves to wish on stars or dandelions but is too embarrassed to tell anyone.

Seems like a bit of a hermit, but is actually really friendly! Loves to interact with people & exchange different interests, quite talkative at times.

Either works at an archive or some kind of library, has a special little key that works only for them.

Weather Wizards 🌩️

Usually has a bird of prey as a companion, but don’t worry they’re friendly 😅🙏

Quills are made from crow feathers.

Wands are made from maple trees, pine trees, or baobab trees.

The ultimate bird parent!! Birds love them & they’re always putting out bird seed feeders or scraps of veggies.

Lives alone in a tall tower in the middle of the woods. Only goes to town when necessary & will turn into a grumpy pants if you knock on their door.

Sometimes storm clouds or rain will swirl around their house, usually due to spell testing or potions.

The weather is actually pretty nice when they’re around! Cool breezes, clear skies, warm sunny days; tries to deny it’s their work until the sunshine gets brighter.

Collects clean water in mason jars or glass bottles when it rains.

Likes to climb rooftops & chart the stars.

Can always sense when a storm is approaching, doesn’t matter what kind they’re spot on. Likely their job is to keep them at bay as a guardian or lookout.

Love Wizards 💝

Usually has a dove or a type of songbird as a companion.

Quills are made from white swan feathers.

Wands are made from cherry trees, camellia trees, or jasmine shrubs.

Has an easier time communicating with fauna.

Ladybugs are automatically attracted to them & will usually bring good luck to them throughout the day.

Stores their potions in old perfume bottles but will make perfume as a small side job. Has to label everything though.

Has a small rose bush growing outside of their window; likes to talk to it & believes plants have feelings.

Super affectionate! Either the mom friend or the cutsey clingy child friend.

Never forgets Valentine’s Day!! (I’m sorry I know it was last week!) Goes over the top every year & everyone either gets a bouquet or a little goodie bag. The size of the gift depends on who you are sometimes.

Business is a postal service for relationship problems but gets a lot of love letters to proofread. A bit embarrassed receiving one addressed to them.

Swamp Wizards 🐸

Usually has a crane or even a heron as a companion. But sometimes that makes it hard to get in them the house...

Quills are made from duck feathers.

Wands are made of mangrove trees, dogwood trees, or lilypad stems.

Defined as the oddballs of wizardry. They are known to travel a lot but usually live alone.

Uses an old timey ferry boat to get around, but has to use magic to get the paddle wheel moving. It’ll creak & stop like an old engine.

Probably the most experienced in floral/nature magic & their house is like an absolute jungle. Will even let moss grow out because “it wants to be there.”

Has tried more than once to kiss a frog & see if it’ll turn into their true love, but carries medicine around just in case.

Really loves milkweed flowers & will set up cute bundles in their home to make it smell good.

The best cook in the world but mostly uses magic to help.

Probably the friendliest person you’ll meet! Will tell all sorts of stories about their travels, the different kinds of people they’ve met, where to find the best berry bushes, how to care for tadpoles— It might be awhile before you can introduce yourself…

Not redesigning this character but I’m reworking his backstory which makes drawing some tasteful art of his youth necessary 🌝

Tristan is the very first angel I remember ever introducing to my world and the fact years later he’s still a prominent character makes him special to me and he deserves some work <3

He has been changed from a “hunter”, back to a “Guardian” like his first introduction(ik non of u know this stuff but I’m talking to myself ok) which r one of few exclusive born angel roles and treated somewhat like celebrities hence why I’ve made him a bit of an ex-model.

This is an example of his current look, he is currently a demon which he chose willingly to be with his current wife

A little about him:

-so I’ve explained he is a Guardian Angel ,which can only be born angels, but essentially they get assigned to guard a mortal from evil like demons and other spirits that heaven deems untrustworthy, which is actually how he met his current wife! He was assigned a mortal that the demon Laurentius(a powerful demon, the first son of Lilith) was hovering around but he didn’t see anything wrong with their relationship so he kinda just left and pretended he was trying to ward off Lars(Laurentius) but he met Lars’ daughter, Delta, and decided to hover around her instead and they became good friends before becoming an item

-wacky demon and angel mischief of those two before they become a couple and years later Tristan has Lars cut his wings out to become a demon, since angel souls r in their wings and need to be entirely carved out to remove their soul and turn them into a demon contract(like a 50/50 chance of this working), and woo that works and they have their first son and then get married. They have like…. 6 kids now over a 20 or so year period and will likely have more bc they love being parents and they love their kids.

-Delta and Tristan have been the most consistent, drama free couple of the characters and Delta is the damn puppet master and has helped blossom most of the pairings in our world lol, seriously tho I adore these two bc they just love each other and their kids so much.

-Tristan has an ex-wife but this was like 500 years before current events and since becoming a demon he doesn’t remember much anymore unless asked about it, they lived on earth to get some peace from heaven but she fell victim to angel harvesters(humans r aware of angels and demons but it’s kept secret by the magic world and human billionaires and stuff bc they harvest angel organs for, basically, immortality and the magic world can use demon bits for more powerful magic which is illegal) and so yeah she died pretty horrifically which left him scarred for a very long time until he picks up Guardian work again and meets his current wife.

Love that I said little and then infodumped woops XD it’s like right before work so I can’t think anymore but this is the basics of him I hope any of u enjoy my blurb.

If I finish that sketch I’ll probably repost this info attached to it 🎉

Modern Fantasy Monsters: Tips to Stay Cool For the Summer! ☀️

Make sure that your slime friends are getting enough liquid in there body! Some slimes can be sensitive to the hot weather so it is always important to have a drink for them around so they don’t dehydrated and shrink! A healthy slime during hot weather is one that’s well colorful and hydrated!

Though it’s not always needed, please go see a hairstylist if you are a werewolf. Over heating with a heavy coat is no fun and can be dangerous when running around the forest. So make sure you regulate your body temperature by not going out on hot days, taking care of your shedding coat (or just go to the hairstylist for a summer cut), or just staying inside in a werewolf safe home so that you can keep cool. Also please protect your paws! You don’t want them to get burnt on the sidewalk!

Keep fairy homes out of direct sunlight! If you have a fairy home in a tree or somewhere in your garden where small fairies visit make sure you safely move it to a place with shade so the fairies won’t be too hot in their home. A small offering of fresh fruits and iced drinks in thimbles and small paper cups are also helpful. You can even make them a little pool to cool off in using some small bowls!

Dragons should soak their scales whenever they feel that their scales are getting dry. This goes for non-humanoid dragons and Dragonkin alike. If you know a dragon that rest in your area, politely ask them if they need help with their scales being soaked. Most dragons will happily agree for you to help them get cool during the summer.

Vampires be extra careful during the summer. The sun is no joke and it’s been to maybe ask your employer (if you work) to take some days off during the summer so you can stay inside as long as possible. Even in bat form it is possible for you to burn in the sun. Cover yourself when you go outside from head to toe and put on some vampire safe sunscreen if you want that extra layer of protection.

Witches please remember to put on sunscreen whenever you go out flying on your broomstick. Even if you have a hat on a little sunscreen on the back of the neck, face, arms and legs can help to avoid sunburning. Also please wear proper eye protection when flying with the bright sun. The sun may blind you if you get too close, wear broom riding glasses or sun glasses so that you can see properly.

Elves please don’t forget to protect your ears from the sun as well. A nice lather of sunscreen on your ears can protect them from sun damage.
