Words of Encouragement.

Word count: 1,123

Author’s note: you guys get to see this first, congrats! i love the avatars and they needed closure so...

Summary: One last letter before they go, to eternal peace or not.

The gods are used to seeing losses of their mortal avatars. It is always saddening, one could say, when their cherished chosen enter the realm of the Duat. It is the cycle of life and they knew it of course. But it is never easy to watch them die. To watch them stand as warriors under their name.

Only a few gods can truly see the scales and all the human wrong doings, so when a god chooses an avatar, it does not mean they are perfect. It means they are bright and appealing, but not perfect.

Humans cannot truly fathom the inherent importance of the scales — balanced or not — to the universe and may never will, but when the gods watch as Arthur Harrow judges the souls too early… It was heartbreaking. Especially when they watch their avatars, who had served them and believed in them, die under the judgment of the scales. They cannot blame the souls nor the order of this world. They wanted to blame Ammit, but they knew that even if she did not kill them, they would still be engulfed by the sands.

Easy is something that isn’t in the vocabulary of the avatars and they knew it.

The gods and avatars felt a ripple in the Overvoid, an unbalance of power in the Pyramids of Giza. Both gods and avatars of the Ennead decided to check on it, just to find out about Arthur. Khonsu had been right and now they were going to regret it. The gods, protector of their realm, were determined to fight Ammit and so were their avatars.

In their defense, could any of them see it coming? The brutal murder of the mortals who chose the gods? Their soul — oh, their poor flaming soul — flash away from the anchors of the mortal realm? Who could have predicted their untimely demise?

Their power had not been enough to protect and to save. They were gone. Into the realm of the Duat they go. The avatars who had fought bravely and the gods had failed. They had failed them. They had failed to ensure their safety. They failed.

It was as if they lost a part of themselves. Not their name, not their power, but their children.

Letters are a funny thing. Words on paper written as messages. Some mortals call the method as coping — writing to no one and spilling their emotions to their dead loved ones — but for gods, they were actually messages that were ready to get sent into the Duat. One last letter before they go, to eternal peace or not.

Dear Selim,

Death is quiet. Death is bliss. Death is closure. But yours… it does not feel like it. There is no closure to yours and I am truly sorry. Our journey together had taught me things that none of my other avatars had taught me and I thank you for that.

Time passes differently when you are in the Duat. Time is a concept that is complex. For you it may have been 9 long years of service, but for me it had only been a small part of my eternal life. It was my fault that I did not believe Khonsu. It was my fault and you were the one who paid for it. I am truly sorry.

You survived the attack of Ammit, for your scales are balanced. Yet her power was too strong for a mortal and I could not protect you.

For an archeologist, you lack your belief in me. But I am learning now. Faith does not come blindly. Faith lies in those who truly see it. You saw my power as my eye, and agreed to be my avatar.

My father was wrong about Arthur and you tried telling me. I did not believe you, because it would mean going against my own father. Yet you were right. And you died because of our mistake. I am so sorry.

I have no words that could describe how incredible it is to work with you. You defy sometimes, in a good way, and you set my path straight. Now, I’m going to lead you into the Duat for the ending you deserve.

Okay so I want to explore whether each alter in the Moon Knight system as portrayed in the tv show would survive Castle Dracula both alone and with help from the others assuming they don’t have superpowers at this point.

Steven would accept the crucifix bc he’s too awkward to refuse a gift. He’d maintain that everything about Dracula was completely normal until the shaving incident, where he would pick up on being in danger but not that Dracula wasn’t human. He would then try to escape, probably not be able to open any locked doors, and not choose to die by wolves. How long he lasts depends entirely on whether Dracula finds his begging for his life annoying or amusing.

Marc would not accept the crucifix, because he’d assume the old woman was being weirdly antisemitic. Any info on if his star of david would serve the same purpose? Either way by the time the shaving incident happens Marc is already suspicious, I think he’d try to fight Dracula then and there. Even if he survives that he’s choosing the wolves bc he overestimates his ability to punch his way out of problems.

Jake would accept the crucifix bc like it can’t hurt to have extra protection against weird shit. Unlike Marc he would play it cool after the shaving incident and stealthily try to escape later. When he stumbles upon the Girlies then he’d immediately try to fight them. And Dracula too if he shows up. All at once. And I’m sorry Jake but not even you can win that fight. If given the choice he’s choosing the wolves not bc he thinks he can survive but as a fuck you to Dracula.

But together, if the timing works out and Steven or Jake is there to accept the crucifix, Jake keeps cool after the shaving incident, Marc handles meeting the Girlies the same way Johnathon did, and Jake gets them down the cliff alive. Steven could handle the resulting weird brain fever and would be happy to accept the nuns’ help and forget any of this ever happened.

In conclusion, they can only survive together.

(This was so fun I might have to make this scenario my next fanfic project)

I think you're absolutely right.

My knowledge of Moon Knight is based solely off the TV series plus one (1) comics panel. Typically the rule you must brace Castle Dracula alone, because the isolation is part of it, but Moon Knight provides an excellent loophole.

I also didn't know Marc Spector was Jewish. Good for him. Re: the Star of David, I don't think it will serve the same function in this case because in the novel Dracula, vampires are not repelled by the faith of the weilder (of the holy object) nor by sacred symbols but by the literal and immediate presence of God. I do not think the Star of David fulfills that role any more than an ordinary cross does, I think (from a Jewish perspective) you would want something like scripture. And Marc, being a professional supernatural entity, may already have something like that.

There's also the fact that Moon Knight is the avatar of an actual literal god, which I don't imagine Dracula liking too much. Although vampires are consistently associated with the moon, so maybe they're chill? Apart of course from Dracula still owing him money.

Stephen Grant brings exactly the same hapless kind-hearted innocent approach that Jonathan Harker does, honestly. I don't know whether he would choose the wolves, to be honest. He might actually have the same cowardice moment that made Jonathan ask that the door be closed again. He has a heroism to him but he's not attuned to a life of violence - I kind of think he'd choose against certain death in favor of an uncertain future - IF the others will let him.

I agree that Marc would believe he could punch his way out of an Infinite Wolves situation. The question is: is he right about this? His flaw is thinking he can handle things on his own when he can't. On the other hand... he's a superhero. His suit may be at least a little wolf proof. He's used to far less mundane enemies. He may, in fact, be able to punch his way through an infinite number of wolves.

And yeah, yeah, Jake Lockley brings the Power of Incredible Violence - which as we know is necessary but not sufficient to defeat Dracula. Is he allowed to draw upon Moon Knight powers? If he comes at Dracula fists swinging but as a normal (though skilled) human being, that won't end well. He's not a match for four vampires. But on the other hand, the sense I got from the series is that Jake is the one who knows how to stay in his lane. He may well understand that the Jake approach to the Dracula problem is not the appropriate one.

So yeah I am with you, I think Moon Knight (TV version) can survive Castle Dracula, but as per usual he'll have to work together or at least not self-sabotage.

Miguel was surprised, Jessica thinks it’s just the pregnancy, and Peter B is cheering you on. The moon boys are happy their no longer alone but god your so young! Jake teaches you Spanish before Miguel can because he’s making sure he takes all of dad achievements before Miguel does!

Marc ask questions about Anubis and how he treats you as he know each god or goddess treats their avatar differently and he hopes your being treated nicely. Steven and you chat about your gods and other stuff, Steven is probably the closet with you besides Jake (I totally didn’t think his name was Jack for a fucking minutes and looked it up!). Marc and you are still getting to know each other other but he’s as obsessed as the other two.

Miguel and Jake have arguments in Spanish 24/7 and it’s entertaining, mostly around how they are your real dad or how their much better fit to be your dad.
